Windows wont start after 8.1 update wont boot in safe mode

Q: Windows wont start after 8.1 update wont boot in safe mode

Last night I updated windows 8.1 from windows 8.
It got to the stage where it needs to restart so it done that started the configarations and once it reached 100% it restarted.

Since then what happens is when i press power on the samsung logo comes on the screen then the black screen with the windows picture then the bsod comes up for around half a second and it restarts. then it constantly does this.

The whole cycle only takes a few seconds.

Ive tried booting in safe mode but this isnt working so I downloaded kav rescue on another computer and saved it on a flash drive, But it wont boot off this either.

Any ideas?

A: Windows wont start after 8.1 update wont boot in safe mode

What does the BSOD state? Most times it is a driver issue with the Display drivers. Other times it is hardware.

Today I noticed that I could not open my start menu with neither the windows button, ctrl + esc, or a click of the mouse. I've also had a problem the last couple of days saving/opening files in one of the programs I used to make music. I tried to go into safe mode to do system restore, but the safe mode didn't boot. It scrolled all the system files on the screen but then just stopped and nothing happened.

So, I tried the other option (forget what it's called) that lets you perform various other system restoration tasks. I brought up the system restore screen from there, but got an error that said something about corrupt files so it could not perform the restore. I checked again, and all my restore points had been deleted.

Lastly, when I click computer, all the drives are blank with no names beside them, only the icons. I can still click them and they seem to be functioning normally, so I don't know if there is a relation to this. I don't know if some registry files were deleted or if there is some other problem. I didn't notice the start menu/safe mode/blank icon issues until I just recently installed the latest windows update.

Sorry if this seemed a little long winded, but I would appreciate help from anyone.

Hello there,
It seems like you did not perform a clean installation of Windows and that's why your system is acting up.
Follow the steps below to install a new copy of Windows:
1. To format your hard disk during Windows 7 installation you will need to start or boot your computer using the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive. Insert your Windows 7 disc in your CD/DVD drive. Please note: will need to restart or turn on your system with the disc in the drive.
2. After turning on your system with the CD in the drive go ahead and press any key when prompted during your computer post routine and then follow the instructions presented on screen. If you don’t see this go back to step 1 to setup your BIOS to boot from CD or USB flash drive depending on your installation media.
3. On the Install Windows page simply enter your preferences and click next.
4. Accept the Windows license agreement.
5. On the “Which type of installation do you want” page go ahead and choose the “Custom” option.
6. Select Drive options (advanced) on the “Where do you want to install Windows” page.
7.  Select the partition that you want to change, choose the formatting option you want to perform and then follow the instructions.
When allocating space choosing the default MB size for your drive is typically the best for most users since you want to take full advantage of all your disk... Read more

#1 Hi, basically this probem arose from nowhere. I came back from holiday 6 days ago and my pc took longer than i remember to boot. Only till i realised the next day and day after it was getting longer and some times not loading past the 'Windows' screen. Each time when it hasn't loaded fully, I turn it off and re-boot pressing F8 to get up safe mode, which doesn't work at all.
It gets stuck on '/avgdiseh' doesn't load past and will stay like that till turned off. Start up repair does absolutely nothing, it asks to do System restore which then errors and reboots, if i press cancel it stays on the 'Scanning' screen for hours.. (8 hours today)

#2 I've now seemed to run into another problem trying to boot from my CD drive. First time I loaded everything correctly got to 'install windows' screen clicked start up repair which did nothing. Ever since that windows won't detect my CD drive even though it opens and did read CD's.(watched a film on it the other day)

I've looked online and other people have had the same problems and clearly i haven't found a solution yet. I've tried cleaning the inside of my case, double checking connections, changing boot options. From what i've read its either a failed HDD, failed RAM (, or failed CD drive in the case of my second dilemma)

I'm just curious as to whether anyone can pin point what the problem is. If its an easy fix or whether it is possibl... Read more

Ok, it all started when i was dloading a program to make windows setups.(.msi). Then i decided i didnt like it and uninstalled it. After tht was done. I decided i was going to stick with Inno Setup. I have used it before and liked it. But then i noticed all or most of my desktop icons were missing. And all the start menu ientries were missing. So i figured i had a virus. SO i went to do a system resotre. But found that i oculdnt find it...due to to missing folders. So i decided i would then try to boot into safe mode. When i tried to boot it said it cannot find a file(same with normal mode). Ubfortunely i dont remember what it said. I think it said windows cannot find NRDL press ctrl alt delete to reboot. or somthing like that. Any ways i tried a few more times and it all failied. SO then i tried the windows recovery console. Nothing. I really didnt know whre to go with it. Then i decied to go into the bios and reset. Or i thought i was resseting them. I seleteced. "fails proof settings". But then i rebooted and things got worse. My monitor is now getting no signal, it says it is ocnnected though..... So i cant see what i am doing. Please any ideas. I have a Programming project that i have been working on for months now. i dont wanna lose that. And a Lang arts project. The system restore says that there is not enough memory to preform a restore.
Safe mode only boots the first seven drivers and then stalls and the system returns to booting startup repair.
Is there is anything else you that I could try or and more information you need please ask.

I know a bit about computers but i ain't the best an ain't bragging.
But i know a problem when i have one.
I wanted to get into safe mode in windows but cant.
I press f8 then select my operating system then the drivers start to load windows in safe mode.

The problem i get is it hangs on one driver, so I'm thinking this driver could be missing or is corrupt.
I have run chkdsk an have use the options to fix all errors but windows still wont start in safe mode.

I checked for Virus and Spy-ware but still no joy.
Also if this driver is missing or corrupt i cant replace it because i cant get into safe mode.

I have also tried the sfc /scannow in cmd but keep getting the message please insert windows xp disk in CD drive D:
The disk is in there i put it in ???? ????

Also don't ask me to do a restore as i have no restore points to go back to as i cleaned up the comp a few days ago.

Any suggestions as to whats going on??

Thanks in advanced

The problem is that windows freezes on a blank screen after the Loading windows screen. There were about 10 viruses on the computer, they have since been removed remotely. They included trojans, spyware and adware, and also [email protected] However the computer can still only be booted in safe mode.

Around a week ago as I closed the computer down one evening, there was a MS update running, I allowed the update and the computer shut down.
The next morning my laptop would not start up. It would load to the password login screen and no further. I was able to go into safe mode and run system restore and this would then allow me to use the computer as normal, I was not able to use a recent restore point though. On rebooting I would be faced with the same problem.
I have updated all my security programs in safe mode with networking and run them but so far they have found nothing.
I have used Microsoft Security Essentials
Malwarebytes (the database was corrupted and was downloaded again)
WinPatrol has not notified me of any suspicious activity

in addition I have run a couple of online scans (I forget which ones)
I have run start up repair but apparently this has not fixed my problem. I am using online armour as a firewall. I am not convinced that I have any virus and my security is pretty comprehensive but I am at a loss to what to try next and would appreciate some help if possible.

Hello All,
I am running Windows 7 RTM on a 1.75Ghz, 3Gb RAM box. Windows 7 was working fine for me, but this morning i just restarted because i thought it was acting slow. It had a proper shut down(I use verbose mode..)But then it never restarted. It just showed the HP logo and stopped.. I am even unable to get into the safe mode box(by pressing F8). I have a windows Xp bootable CD right now... and that doesnt boot either (Yes, I have ensured the booting order is correct.) What could be the cause?
Is it a hardware failure - As in harddisk crash? Because the computer just sits idle!! Strangely, I went to BIOS and did a disk diagnostic test which it passed.. But the harddisk LED didnt blink during the test(It should blink right?)... Please help me, i am really stuck here...

A:Windows 7 wont start.. unable to get to safe mode even!

Some kind of bios setting. Check to see the plug and play os is set to yes. If that's not the cause, use "standard optimized default" as the global bios setting and see how it carries on.

Can't hurt to actually update the bios from the motherboard manufacturer's website too.

MALWARE issues!!!I was having trouble staying in SAFEMODE to try to do some cleanup on my Laptop. The malware prevented my getting into safe mode and would cause the pc to just reboot normally. Because of this, I went into the msconfig>system config utility > boot.ini> then placed a check in the safemode box. I rebooted. Now its worse because it is now stuck with the BLACK screen safe mode choices. Ok, so I'm helping someone can help me on here. I was origionally running Windows 7 but had to install Ubuntu alongside it. I was installing a game, then started playing it while it continued downloading (it was a streaming download.) It ran fine for about 10 min, and then the computer froze. I decided to restart it and now it wont boot back up. Everytime I try booting it into either safe mode or regular mode it gets to the windows loading screen and then goes to the bsod and restarts. When I try booting it in safe mode it will load all the drivers until it reaches aswrvrt, then bsod flashes and it restarts. I tried booting it into recovery mode but it will reach a gray screen and then hang. I can move the courser around but nothing loads. I installed Ubuntu on a sd card so I can try and fix the problem. I can access all the data on the hard drive, so I tried uninstalling avast and the game. I dont think it worked since I can still see the files.Does anyone know what I am talking about and can help me?

A:Windows 7 wont boot into safe mode or recovery mode

Your Windows installation has corrupted in some way. If you cannot enter the "Last Known Good" option from the recovery screen you should then be looking at booting from a repair disk and repairing your file system.
EDIT: that is a windows repair disk specific to your OS that I am talking about.

While working on my computer last night my computer unexpectedly froze, so i reboot it and i get to the windows logo screen with the bar that goes across midscreen, it will take a few minutes and sit there and then just restart and repeat. When i try to go into safe mode i get a bunch of lines that scroll up my screen similar to : multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\windows\system32\windows32\drivers\mup.sys - this is the last one on my screen before it waits a few minutes and just restarts. Hi All,

I have again been given a friends PC to fix...but again the repair is beyond me so i am here asking for help

The PC is custom built with XP installed on it.
The PC wont start or even go into Safe Mode, it just crashes and starts the entire routine again, this continues over and over.

I do get a screen before the boot starts which says the following:

We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.

If you computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Food Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.

If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you arent sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally.

Then the normal options are displayed, with Safe Mode and so on. None of the options work and the PC just keeps coming back to this screen.

I have spoken to the guy who the PC belongs to and he said there were no recent hardware changes but is not sure about software.

Is there anything that can be done to fix and get the PC working again?

Thanks in advance

I have a windows 7 notebook that won't load into windows or load safe mode successfully its ends with a black screen and hangs forever. System restore wont even fix it. What command can I use to troubleshoot this other than reinstalling windows. Thanks

A:windows 7 wont start up or load safe mode successfully

If you have an install disk and can access Setup (possibly tapping F2 as you switch on) to change the Boot order to CD/DVD before the HDD, then insert the disk - Save and Exit, it will then reboot up with it and you will be prompted to press any key to boot from CD/DVD.

Select the Repair option and then Startup Repair in the Recovery Environment.

It will give you the option to select a restore point which you can opt for or pass on that and let it complete the Startup Repair.

If it reports that it was unable to repair, then you could give the restore point a try.

I turn on the pc and hit F8 to go into safe mode. I get the safemode option, I choose run in safe mode, and then my OS system and then the screen goes black and stays black. No blinking cursor, no blue screen of death...just black. It does the same thing when I just try to start it up normally. I get the Compaq start up screen and then it goes to black and nothing. No mouse, no sound when I hold a key down on the keyboard...nothing.

I have been reading in these forums for hours trying to find someone with the same problem and couldnt find one so I do hope that this post in not a repeat.

Please help.

Hey guys..

I've been trying to fix this computer for the last 8 hours and I can't figure it out. I've narrowed it down to a system corruption, it's not hard, viruses or spyware, it's not anything but a corrupted windows installation.

I will only image the drive at a last resort. I might just buy a second hard drive and install the OS and copy over the goods. Either way, I don't want to go though all that work. I know I can fix this.

I had it working at one point, I did a Windows XP Setup into Repair mode, checked the disk and even went as far as created a second boot.ini - Just to eliminate a factor, that didn't work.

What appeared to work was to "repair" the "corrupted windows installation" 3 or 4 times, and then do an "upgrade" and reactivate windows. I managed to get to a desktop, but then things just went downhill.

The icons where weird, and my "theme" was reset, and various other things. I created a new user in hope to start over, I was aimed at uninstalling things such as the vista transformation pack, etc.. Did a Windows Update, changed a few Driver letters so shortcuts worked, and then tried to "repair" the transofmation pack so i could uninstall it. I also did a Windows Update.

Then I reboot, and my nightmare starts over again. Now I can't even get the damn upgrade/repair to work and it wont boot past mup.sys. If I just knew what file was corrupted or what was making the s... Read more

Hey There,

I'm working on an IBM ThinkCenter Desktop PC.

On bootup, it goes through the IBM logo and then the Windows logo flashes quickly and then is gone and then the Safe Mode screen appears. No matter which option I choose from the Safe Mode screen, the result is the same: The Windows logo flashes quickly and then the system reboots, and then the IBM logo and then the Safe Mode Screen.

I have tried running the repair module from an o/s disk I have here, but when I get to the c: prompt and type "dir" it says "error occurred during directory enumeration".

There is only one partition.

I have a copy of UBCD4WIN, if that would be helpful in diagnosing the problem.

I do not have the o/s disk that belongs to this computer.

Any help would certainly be appreciated. Thank you.

I cant get access to the safe mode my comp starts loading up screen goes blank then it starts loading up again. I done a scan and I got biohd-8 fail after 75%. I did read somewhere that this virus can do that but I can find any help on how I can recover my children's pics from when they were young.

I tried using Ubuntu on a dvd but I cant access my windows folder once thats booted up

You've probably guessed by now I haven't got a back up

Can anyone be any help I really don't wont to lose these pics its the only copy I have

A:Yorkshire police Virus now windows wont boot no safe mode

Windows Defender Offline

You can try the WDO tool to remove the virus.

You will need to use a working computer in order to burn the program to a bootable CD/DVD or USB.

Hope this helps,

I've tried booting into safe mode, But I keep getting the same error of "Your PC didn't start correctly" and I cant find anything online for it. If you need anymore details about the laptop, let me know.

Stupidly i picked up a virus through a 'windows security' pop up. Avira found a DIAL virus, still problems with IE google search affected and then Modzilla, AVG found nothing, Avira found it again, a microsoft product found nothing then Kaspersky found the nasties a rootkit (?) and another trojan. Instructed to do a system restore restart.
Now the laptop wont start up windows. It scrolls back to black screen safe mode restart. Safe mode doesnt work nor any of the start up options. Theres a flash of a blue instruction screen but that wont show up. Done the F8 key trick etc.
Other problem is the Win XP software was preloaded, no rescue disc.
Did a Sony Vaio F10 computer check which came up clear but am not progressing as worried about losing data if there is a better/another solution..
Any ideas?

There might be a partition on the drive that allows you to boot and restore to factory fresh conditions. What is the Sony model number?

I guess you're tapping the F8 key after you press the power button?
Some PC's will work tapping the F5 key.
Mine works using either one.

How to start Windows in Safe Mode

To use the System Configuration Utility method

1. Close all open programs.
2. Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK.
3. The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab,
Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK
4. Restart your computer when prompted.
5. The computer restarts in Safe mode.
6. Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode.
7. When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode,
open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck "/SAFEBOOT"
and click OK to restart your computer

Your post is kind of confusing, not enough detail, but you may try
doing a repair install of xp. You will need to set boot priority to cd rom
in bios, and go from there.

I have a strange problem. If I try to start xp in safe mode, I get a message stating "windows did not start successfully. Recent hardware or software change may have caused this". There have been no hardware changes, although I have recently installed Malware bytes' anti-malware and SDfix. You see, I have been getting the "windows must now restart because the DCOM server process launcher service terminated unexpectedly" shut down error. I want to run SDFix to see if it helps with the DCOM error, but I cant run it because I cant boot into safe mode. I can boot normally, using the "start windows normally" or "last good configuration". Is there any other way to get my computer into safe mode?

Right now I'm trying to fix a computer that recently became effected with the "Anitvirus XP 2008" virus. Its gotten so bad that we can't get onto the desktop, and when we press "f8" to start safe mode, the option will come up, but when we click "start in safe mode" the computer restarts itself. It's done this every time. I was digging around on the internet and I found something that said that I have to make a bootable cd. Is this right? If not, does anyone know how to get past this? Hello, and thanks in advance I have recieved a lot of help in this forum in the past. Last night my pc started running at 100%cpu and I unchecked a few things about searching from the start menu. They said it would stop casuing the exploerrer.exe to run at 100%. Then last night it kept crashing, but I was able to start it in safe mode. I did the system check today after work but now it asks how I want it started i have chosen all the options. It looks like its about to start then it goes to a gray screen and stops there. I know a lot has been posted about this. Is all hope lost? Of course I have files that I should have backed up ages ago... Thank you and I know you guys are busy.

I have a Sony Viao VGC-RA840G Windows XP Media Center Eddition. it was working fine all this time 2 yrs, till after a power outage, today. I try to start it, get to a screen where these option are given;
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)

Start Windows Normally

But none is working. It restarts but keeps going to this same screen with these options.

i dont have a a-drive to use a boot disk. I dont have the cd cause this was of the shelve purchase. I can use F2 to get to the BIOS screen or F8 for startup options or f10 which will take me through a full systems restore to factory defaults but will erase all personal files, which defeats the whole purpose. I have tons of photos of my 15 month old boy on there which potentially will all be lost. Is there a way that i can restore windows only w/o having to do a complete restore. I spoke to the tech chat support at sony and they say the only solution is to do a full system recovery and i should work with a 3rd party (that they keep pushing - called drivesavers- to have a back up made and do a data recovery excercise) Is this truly the only solution or are there possibly other ways to accomplish this?

Any suggestions would be helpful THANKS in advance

Hello there and welcome to BleepingComputer. My name is Charles and I will be dealing with your log today. From your log it appears that you are missing one important program: an antivirus. This is somewhat suicidal in today's digital world. Without one you are at a high-risk of reinfection; while I can try to sort your problem out, if you have no protection, the infections will keep resurfacing. Here are some great free antivirus programs:Antivir, Avast!, AVG, Bitdefender FreeInstall one of these, then run a full scan, letting it quarantine/delete anything it finds. Let me know if there is anything that it reports but can not remove.I have also noticed that you do not appear to have a firewall installed. This is an essential piece of software that acts as an extra layer of security, which restricts access to your computer from the outside world. Therefore, please download one of these free firewalls:Zone AlarmKerioIf you would like some more information about firewalls and how to use them effectively, take a look here. Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click runThis.bat to start the script.Type Y to begin the cleanup process. It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.Press any key and it will restart the PC.When the ... Last week, I was unable to install Microsoft updates. They failed every time. I overcame this by doing a system restore to an earlier date before the previous updates. They then installed. However I was left with Microsoft Net framework 3.5 Service pack 1 which failed to install. I went to Microsoft download site and downloaded from there.
The my troubles started, in that now on opening my machine it tries to configure these updates and says on screen "configuring 3 of 3" gets to 87% then closes automatically and restarts the process overagain.
I tried to open in "safemode" but exactly the same thing happens. Is there anything I can do to stop this, or am I forced in to doing a restore to factory settings, or I note that I have another option of "last known good configuration (advanced)". As I am not advanced this causes me concern. Any suggestions are most welcome.

XP Pro Wont Boot (Safe Mode with N/W will).

(1) Power interruption last night.
XP Pro wont get past the black loading screen with blue moving bar.

(2) Booted in "Safe Mode with Networking".
Can surf internet OK.
Can run a few sample programs OK.
Ran error checking on C drive - checks out OK.

(3) Restored to a few days ago (still in safe mode).
Rebooted with same problem.

(4) I just happen to have a dual boot with XP Home (a left over, not used anymore).
XP Home boots OK.

(5) I get the impression (with lots of stuff working in safe mode and disc checking out ok) that there's something "simple" happening under the covers that XP PRO gets stuck on.
Are there any other diagnostic tools to help?

(6) If not, is my next step to reinstall XP PRO (followed by SP2) ?
Will I have to reinstall all my applicatons (oh no) ?

Thanks in advance - Phill.

Sometimes it goes onto the screen with the options of start windows normally, start windows in safe mode, safe mode with networking etc...but none of the options work, it just restarts again with the same result.

After exiting from the contents of the disc a black screen comes up with A:\> I tried typing D:\> but it said it was invalid. I then typed C:\> and the c promt came up, but everything I tried typing such as CHKDSK returned the message 'bad command or filename'.

All of a sudden I hear the harddrive take off and things starting to happen. The last thing I seen on the screen was the word hibernate... in the middle of the screen, just before everything shutdown. I've never used hibernate in my life, not even sure how. Anyway, now my pc wont boot up, not even in safe mode. All I get is a black screen with white letters. It says:The last attempt to restart the system from it's previous location failed. Attempt to restart again? Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu. Continue with system restart. That's it, there's no cursor or nothing works. I've hit every key and rebooted a thousand times and I just get the same screen. I don't even know the easy things to do on these so I'm hoping this is just something simple that everybody knows about except me. So somebody tell me what key to hit to fix this please. Thanks

When you reinstalled xp, did you do a clean install? Or just reinstalled over it? I suggest formatting and doing a clean install. This started out as somthing i thought i could handel. Not long after startup the system shuts down and says it was initiated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM. "Windows must now be restarted because the DCOM Server Process Launcher service terminated unexpectedly." I thought i would be able to get rid of this by installing adaware and removing it that way. (I have no antivirus installed on the computer, i know im stupid, im sorry, please dont turn this into a 'your an idiot' thread ) so i downloaded adaware on another computer, burned it to a disk, (because the internet didnt work anymore on the infected computer) and figured i could install it. Well that didnt work. It would not let me install, i got about half way and it gave me an error. I attempted to start it in safe mode, and it just froze. a couple tries of that left me in a worse spot than i was. I did also try restoring it to a previous point, but it wouldnt let me click the next button....that weirded me out. I have been attempting to fix this for the last 2 days and not getting anywhere fast. I hope someone has some suggestions.

Xp will not boot past windows logo screen. If I just let it run it will reboot and try agian on its own.

All the Safe mode choices freeze while the text goes down the screen - doesnt even make to the logo screen.

Last known good configuration does the same thing as regular boot up -no load past windows logo.

I have attemted to reboot using the xp disk. (I am running Raid 0 and did install raid drivers with the F6 command) I am able to get the screen with options and have choosen all the option which would freeze. They both freeze when they begin to anylze the first hard drive.

My bios sees good good hard drives (I dont know if that really means anything)

Raid shows healthy drives as well.

If I reset my computer with the restart button after attempting to load the comptuer will freeze at the bios start up screen. If I power down the comptuer and the restart I have the same boot issues. Not sure if that gives any clue.

I have another computer with the exact same specs. I have swithced hard drives and get the same result. The hard drives from my other computer work fine in the busted computer so we can rule out motherboard, graphics, loose connection, etc....

I would usually run chkdsk or reload drivers using the windows disk but as you know from the info above i cannot get to that point. I have also tried to boot to Dos with a boot disk so I can ru... Read more

Problem Solved

Hello All

Thank you anyway. The problem was caused by a new Cannon pi6600D printer that is slow to initialize. I prevented windows from starting at all. Shut printer off normal boot goes fine. Then turned printer on and P&P finds it and all is ready to go.

Now I need to figure out why the Cannon is so slow.

I was infected with antispyware soft virus few days ago - while in the process of dealing with it I disables all the STARUP program from msconfig.

Now when start the computer it wont boot - only black screen.

If I press F8 after starting I see the option for SAFE MODE etc but when selecting any of them won't start any thing - just black screen.

This is EeePC notepad with XP without any dvd/cd drive - can something be done only using the USB

Thanks in advance

I have a Dell Studio XPS8100 running with Windows7 Home Premium Service Pack1, 64-bit OS.When I purchased it I also had Dell put in a Tv card (Hauppauge WinTv HVR-1250) figuring I might be able to watch some of the Tv Channels from the area where my family lives.

Anyway here are the list of issues I have been having over the past couple years. The first issue I noticed was when I went into Windows Media Center and clicked the Internet TV feature or the program, the Windows Media Center program would shut down. So I called Dell and they worked on the issue for a couple of sessions that included numerous hours of my time and might I add the difficulties in understanding the tech, but the end result was that the issue was never fixed and so I just gave up on the tv feature all together and started using the computer to do Cad drawings which is the main reason I had purchased the unit.

Over the next couple of years working with the unit I noticed that once in a while Explorer would stop working and restart itself once in a while, Then the other day I installed a new Cad program and the program would starts itself to the part of the program where I would start using it and then just dissapears of the screen.

In the same fashion that Media Center did. So in trying to figure out if I could fix the issue, thinking that perhaps another program might be conflicting with the Cad program, I decided to start the computer in Safe Mode, when I do that the computer boots in safe mode ... Read more

Please do the following:Get a look at the error message presented by the BSOD (blue screen of death) ....Start tapping the F8 key after you press the ON button, and continue tapping until you are presented with the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" screen.
Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to select "Disable automatic restart on system failure" and press the <ENTER> key.Your system will attempt to restart normally, but when it crashes, it will not re-start: Instead, you will see a BSOD with error message.
Record the error message details (contained in the areas outlined in red, in the above example image), and post in your reply.

I'm in a real mess since Lavasoft AdAware crashed my windows 7 home premium edit. 64bit after its 1st initial mandatory reboot. Everything is frozen, nothing can be clicked on or done in any way, shape or form. Even 'Esc' and 'Ctrl-Alt-Del wont work. PC must be shutdown manually. It also wont uninstall in safe mode. Once in safe mode the 1st time I got windows telling me that it cant uninstall this software in safe mode (this was done by its own uninstaller, and by the windows one, and by the Revo Pro uninstaller.) the 2nd time (reboot) it told me it wasnt installed properly. the 3d time it can't install in safe mode again. What now please? Anyone have an idea?

Thank you

A:Lavasoft AdAware crashed win7-Ctrl-alt-del wont work & it wont uninstall in safe mode

Sorry solved it. I'll write the answer should anyone need it someday. I believe my solution can help for other similar cases besides Ad-Aware.
A minute after I posted this a thought came to mind: Go into safe Mode and use msconfig.exe. So I ran it and unchecked everything to do with Ad-Aware. TO be even more sure I checked off not to run also other things that I knew would not be needed like anything to do with Apple, or Adobe. Afterwhich, doing a proper reboot Windows did actually start normally--no crash and I was able to uninstall it. Slowly I put back other services and start-up items and all is working fine now--so far at least ;-) Thanks for those who took a look and I hope it will help some people in the future.

You will need a USB Dvd drive.
Similar to the one shown here.

You will also need the install Cd [if you have one] and then boot to the Recovery Console.

I installed what I thought was an updated driver for a PCIe eSATA card and since then get only the Advanced Repair options, none of which work.

The nearest I get is System Restore which finds the OS and the restore points but fails with this error, reading in part:
The inst. @ 0xfba6ca53 referenced memory at 0x0021cd49. The memory could not be read.
Or words to that effect.
None of the other options work except Command Prompt and I have no idea how to use that in this situation.

I have the only options of
a) Full Win 7 install, overwriting everything or
b) Running a Win 10 disk over it and upgrading in the hope it will preserve my files and settings.
But it may also not boot because that damn driver will still be there.

Help !! I'll monitor this from my 10 drive as best I can.

Do you get the basic startup? with the bios and everything?
If so, try pressing f8 and go to the option: disable automatic restart on system failure.
If I'm correct you will be getting a blue screen of death (a.k.a. BSOD).

also you will get a message which sould say something like: 0x0000000xx ( where the last 2 x's stand for a number or letter)

Could you post that code?

I have a Compaq Presario Computer with windows XP on it. recently i started getting an error message which says lsass.exe and the computer doesnt go any further after I click on ok which is the only option there. It just goes to a blank black screen. someone mentioned to me that i should try to do a system restore on it through the safe mode, but that doesnt work either becasue same error comes even in safe mode. i have tons of data on this computer and i cannot afford to lose it. i need a way to recover my data. it seems to me that the only option i may have is ot do a system recovery through the cds that i got when i purchased the computer, is that true? someone also mentioned to me that if i have the Operating System CD then i might not have to do anything but just repair. How does this work? I cannot seem to find the O.S cd, where can i get it from? Is it the same as the Windows XP cd? also, this problem has been occuring since a few days now and of course i havent been turning on the computer since there isnt much i can do, so by this problem just being there is it making it worse or not? i just dont have the time right now but does that mean that the problem just sitting there is harming it further? Some people have also told me of how to recover data using Ubuntu or something, how good is that? please help me in this asap. thank you so much

A:Compaq Presario wont boot up even in safe mode

You can use a number of Linux distros to tunnel through the back door of a Windows system for the purpose of rescuing your files but if you have to burn a CD, it may as well be Hirens BootCD which includes MiniXP and once in there, you'll be in familiar territory to find and copy out your data on to memory sticks or an external hard drive.

When you've got it all, then go for the computer manufacturer's recovery disk and it won't matter too mucj if it restores the machine to the day it left the factory. You'll lose any programmes you've installed since then but hopefully, you'll still have the installation disks for those.

Whats going on guys,
I have a Windows XP Professional Edition and i incurred a spyware virus on my PC, so i made a dumb decision by running MSCONFIG and changing my SAFEBOOT option, I did this because previously I couldn't even get into Safe Mode, it would load the files on the screen

and my CPU would reboot, i even tried the other Safe Mode options (command prompt, networking, etc.) I still couldnt accomplish logging into a Safe Mode. But I could still log into Windows Normally.

BUT Now (after changing my SAFEBOOT option in MSCONFIG, thinking i couldnt log into Safe Mode that way), I cannot even log into Windows XP (PERIOD.) Normally or via Safe Mode, Last Known Good Configuration, or any-other way. My CPU loads up and once it reaches the Windows XP Splash Screen it appears to be normally loading, then my screen goes blank and my system reboots, It reboots in an endless loop, i could leave this sucker on for a whole month and it would still be in an infinite boot loop between the start-up of the CPU and the Windows XP Splash

my problem is similar to this guy's

I had a similar problem once. What I ended up doing was finding the program in the task manager, and ending the task (which promptly restarted). By doing this I knew what to look for on the hard drive. Then I went to that files directory on the hard drive and tried to delete it. I couldn't of course because it was running. See where I'm going with this? I then ended the task and deleted the file before it was able to restart, and not on the first try mind you. Hope this helps.

Like the title says, my computer is stuck on a black screen. I downloaded an update and was instructed to restart the computer. After restarting the computer it went to a black screen. It won't do anything past that. I've tried starting it in safe mode but always with the same result. I have no idea what to do with this short of taking it to Best Buy to have the geek squad take a look at it and frankly I don't feel like doing that. Have you tried selecting Last Known Good Configuration from the Safe Mode menu? It sometimes works. Also, if you put in your W7 DVD and select Repair rather than Install after making the language choice, StartUp repair might help and if it does not, try System Restore.

I first noticed a problem when a command prompt window popped up during startup...1.exe
After some searching I discovered it was a trojan located on c root directory. I decided to try and scan to remove it. I used Adaware and AVG free and didnt get it. (only found a few low risk tracking cookies) I then tried SpyBot but during the update process it decided it needed to install the new version so it went ahead and did this then informed me i needed to reboot. I selected not to right away. I scanned with System Mechanic to remove junk and obsolete files and got rid of them all. I then did a registry scan and deleted everything system mechanic found.
I then deleted the installation .exes and shortcuts that had been added to my desktop by Adaware and Spybot.
I also have zone alarm running all the time.
When i came to restart my pc, it passes the windows XP main screen but then freezes on the Acer brand screen. It also will not boot into safe mode. I just get the normal safe mode screen but with the operating system details printed across the top and no start menu/input options etc.
Ive removed and reseated the RAM and the battery.
Im really stuck as to what to try next!
Its an Acer Aspire laptop about 2 years old.
Ive done something to kill it but nothing massively different to what i have done in the past.

Im fairly good with these things but im feeling a little lost for ideas!

Hope someone can help

I got a virus that when I rebooted and logged into my account I had nothing; no desktop or anything and I was locked out of the task manager also (pretty clever). I ran Malware (under a different user that has admin rights) and it removed about 9 files and now I have the following problems.

?When I log into my account it freezes up in 10 sec or so and is completely locked up, but I can log into another account that is how I ran Malware.
?If I try to go into Safe Mode it just reboots after it gets to mup.sys. So I can?t get to safe mode to try and log into my account.
?I know my profile is hosed up and I can?t get in to fix or restore it because I turned on EFS encryption when I created the profile. When I'm logged in as an administrator there is no access to my folder? I just get access denied.
?Also all of the system restore set points are gone so I can't role it back either!

Seems odd that I can log into another account, but mine freezes up and I can't boot into Safe Mode either?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I've seen many solutions suggested involving making a windows repair CD on another computer but the problem is, my CD/DVD drive doesnt read any disks for some reason (I actually sought help through this site over a year ago and no I havent gotten around to replacing the drive. I know I know....)
So..... If my computer and / or my hard drive is just screwed and I should just buy a new one, please tell me there is a way to recover my files and photos.
No I have no backup either.
I had an external hd that was my backup and that died and I lost everything, cds eventually go bad and I can't afford to pay for cloud storage far as I'm concerned there is no true backup.....wah wah wahh
Anyhoo, would copying those repair cds onto a usb stick an option? Is there a way to set that up in bios?
I haven't used the computer in months because I can't get it to boot and I don't recall for sure but I think I'm using windows vista ultimate, 64? Not sure if or what service pack ..its a gateway laptop t series. It was purchased second hand from someone.

A:laptop wont boot, in safe mode stuck at crcdisk.sys

Hi. I use copy cloud storage. I will send you a referral and it will give you and me an extra 5gb of storage. I think you will have 20 gb with the referral. Plus you can get more if you refer other people. I work on computers some but only know some. But you can use Hirens boot cd which is free and boot from the cd and use some of the recover programs to get your data back if the hard drive is accessible. You can also run some programs on the disc to test your hard drive and see if it's bad. Only thing is your dvd drive won't let you, but if you could borrow someones dvd drive or put your hard drive in another laptop to test it you could without buying anything yet. As far as running from usb I am not familiar with your laptop but their probably is an option in your bios to boot from usb. I recently reinstalled vista on a dell desktop that was vista and had a bad dvd drive and reinstalled it with usb. I used poweriso to set up my usb but there is a free program called rufus that is portable so you don't have to install it that will set up your usb. But I think you have to make an iso file of your os to set it up. You could then use it to try to repair or reinstall your os but I would try to save my data and test my hard drive first. I also would hang on to your external hard drive too. You may take the drive out of it and later see if you can put it in a desktop or buy you a usb disk dock from ebay, as the drive may be good and the circuit board that connects your u... Read more
