I'm running vista x64 SP1. Whenever I try to launch the task manager (no matter which method, be it ctrl at del, right clicking in the task bar, or ctrl shift esc) it doesn't appear, but i can see the icon in the system tray. When I right click the icon nothing happens. I tried it 4 times so now i have 4 icons in the system tray and I can't even end them.

Anyone know what I can do? Its practically a brand new install I just installed it on my new hard drive last week.

Returnil Virtual System 2010 uses combination of antivirus, antimalware and a virtual system to protect your computer from all types of viruses and other malicious threats. The success of a product not only depends on its features and performance, but also on ease of installation. Upon installation, RVS automatically scans the system for viruses and other malicious software, which is essential for a safe and secure virtual environment.

Once the system has been confirmed to be free from malware, RVS 2010 clones (copies) your operating system and runs the cloned copy in a virtual system, allowing you to run applications in a completely isolated environment, rather than using the real operating system. Therefore, all activity, malicious or otherwise, will happen in the virtual environment, not in the real PC. If the PC is attacked or gets infected, simply restart your PC to erase all malicious changes that may have been installed on the virtual system. After restart, the system will be restored to its original state, as if nothing ever happened.

Yellow triangular sign of low virtual memory in lower left system tray

Win XP Sp2 system.

My PC has considerable amount of memory but still
While too much surfing on net,
Sometimes, I am getting
A yellow triangle in lower left system tray
About "low virtual memory" with a yellow caution triangle and PC becomes very slow.

This thing happens every time while cutting/pasting on net a more
.

Even if you restart/ turn on and off PC, the system remains still in low memory effect.

After sometimes, it automatically adjusts by itself
And PC becomes normal, but it takes 4-5 hours / 1-2 days.

Pray tell,..

How to release memory and bring the computer in normal mode when yellow triangle shows up?? Pl. suggest smart tricks and technique. I can?t buy more memory as I need to replace both / costs more. I think I got 512 MB or 1 Gig of RAM

Thx.

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I always get this error show when I am trying to get into Standby mode or hibernation.
Dell Latitude D630
XP Professional SP2

Someone in other forums have discussed this symptom. They said it may be related to Adobe Type or called Adobe Font software. However I just have Adobe reader with some Chinese, Japanese font installed. I don't find the SMS virtual keyboard in either software or device manager.
I just installed "lateset" ACPI driver, seems no luck. Well I do have 4GB memory but this seems not the same issue as mentioned by Microsoft weeks before (hibernation disabled for the performance reason). I can choose hibernation function. It shows about 3.5GB in system.

Anyway, I do see some suggestions on web, but nobody says it helps. Let's fix this issue here OK?
Thanks for your help and attention.

I am havig some system tray icon problems after installing anti-virus and spyware software. Looking for a fix for the disappearing system tray icons at initial start-up. Quick fix--log off and on again--icons reappear where they should. I am told that this disappearing activity is due to a Windows XP "BUG". What a problem! Any ideas for a secure, lasting fix out there? After the spyware and antivirus software installation, the computer star-up time is now really SLOW too. The software launches seems to be in conflict with each other, or something. Have emachine--T3406, Windows XP Home 2002, Service Pack 2. 1.23 GB RAM.

Today (19th March) has Windows Update showing KB2962409 as ready to install. Publication data last August. Checking my installed updates shows that this KB number was indeed installed back in August 2014.
Is this an updated version of the same KB update or is it a mistake. Anyone else had this appear ?

A:KB2962409 appears today but already installed 6 month ago

Mooly, I also had this update yesterday (KB2962409) and can't seem to find any info regarding it being re-released. Considering my past experience with Windows Updates, I'm not sure you are in "good" company, but you are not alone - lol. Everything seems to be running ok on two desktops after installing it.

Hello,

I have been having problems with some weird icon on the tray. The icon looks like a film strip and it appears and disappears in a total of about 30 times in less than 10 seconds. It only appears when I go to certain websites and those websites have nothing to do with eachother.

It doesn't make sense but I know that the program itself might be a codec I installed a while back that has to deal with video. It might be a video codec I installed because I have been having problems lately playing movies on WMP 9 (which I never had problems with until just recently).

So i've been using programs such as Divx Player and ViPlayer. I've thought it might've been one of those programs so I uninstalled both of them and the problem with the icon in the tray still is happening. I've had this problem before but I can't remember how I got rid of it, so that is why I am here.

So please, may someone help me with this?

btw, I've tried taking a picture of my desktop with the problem but it's either the icon that appears is way too fast or it just won't show up, sorry.

But, I am still getting the program page open and appear on my desktop after each start where it will stay unless I manually close it .... is there any way to stop this and make it go straight to just the task tray please?

Sorry about the vague subject line, but I really have no clue what's going on here. A couple of days ago I installed SP2 on my computer along with IE7. Then my computer started showing this weird icon in the area next to the clock that said safely remove hardware, so I clicked on that and saw my USB printer and 3 others that said "USB mass storage device" knowing that I didn't have any flash drive connected I clicked the stop button for each of the devices except the printer. Now I cannot get my USB drive or my internal card reader to be recognized by the computer. I tried removing the card reader in the hardware profile and then disconnecting it from the motherboard, rebooting and then powering down and re-connecting and it still won't work. What's worse it that the USB drive will not function in any of my USB ports. Please help

Just a little add on to my previous post, now when I try to take pics off my printer it says cannot access device. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

Help! My computer has serious problems and I have spent many hours over the past two weeks or so trying to fix it. I have run numerous virus and spyware scans which did find some problems but now I no longer find anything. I will list the hijack this log below but first let me describe the issues I am aware of.1. My laptop is very very slow. Always a bad sign. I do not know what is causing it.2. My Norton Antivirus program must be corrupted or something. Although set to auto-protect and load a start up, the icon no longer appears in the tray. I have tried to change the settings but it does not work. Also there is an error message ("Error" in red) next to email scanning. Again when I try to fix it by changing the options it does not work. 3. I have noticed several times if I leave my laptop on (e.g., overnight, to run a scan or whatever while I sleep) when I check the computer later it sometimes appears to have stopped in the middle of a program that appears to be the set up program for Outlook Express (I do not use Outlook Express). I am not sure about this one, as it only seems to happen sometimes, but it concerns me.4. I am running Sygate Personal Firewall (the old free version before it was acquired by Symantec ? what a nice anti-competitive move?). Anyway, I get various messages as follows:(a) When I first boot-up and before I connect to the internet, I get a message from the Sygate program that reads as follows (or some slight variations) ?NDIS... Hi All,

I'm using Outlook 2003 on Widows XP. One of my rules includes "Mark As Read" after moving the email to a folder. It does get marked as read, but the tray notification (envelope) still appears. This defeats the purpose for me, and actually makes it harder (I use multiple folders, so I hunt through each to find the new message). What am I missing, or is this a glitch? I just want it to be marked as read, and NOT show the tray icon.

Thanks in advance!

Has  anyone installed the Microsoft keyboard and mouse drivers today?  I have Win 8.1  after starting up the computer today, I see I have one new security update, and two optional.  Neither the keyboard, or either of my two mice are Microsoft.  I am not sure whether to install them or not.  The security update keeps saying preparing to install, but it is taking much much longer than normal to install.  I decided to do it first, then ask about these other two.  I don't want to mess up my keyboard and mouse with an update not meant for their brand.  Thoughts please?

A:Microsoft keyboard and mouse driver updates today

The drivers are not specifically for a Microsoft mouse, it's aimed at a HID - compliant mouse.

A mouse is a plug and play device, unless it is a specialized gaming mouse you shouldn't need anything other than the native Windows driver in the operating system.  That is what the updated drivers for the mouse are.

I suspect it might be some sort of keylogger, but in general I am really confused by this weird behavior.

Recently I had been having some trouble with my keyboard. Some keys have simply stopped working altogether, and it seems to be registering the ctrl key as being pressed down at all time. Occasionally I could unplug the key board, put it back in, and it would work again, but only for an hour or two.

I resigned myself to using the on-screen keyboard, which worked as a temp fix while I ordered a replacement keyboard.

What's odd now, is that this morning, I have discovered that the on-screen keyboard no longer works. It is exactly mimicking the problems I had been having with my physical keyboard. I plugged that one back in, and sure enough, when the 'v' key didn't work on the hard keyboard, it didn't work on the on-screen keyboard either.

Ok, I have searched everywhere on Google for a solution to this, but I couldn't even find anyone else with this problem. My problem is, that after being on my computer for awhile, the English layout will appear out of nowhere in the language bar, even though I do not have it activated, so there is no way I can get rid of it, except for restarting my computer. Does anyone know how I could get it to stop doing this? To most people it probably wouldn't be a problem, but it bothers me to have it there when I won't use it, and I always make extensive use of keyboard shortcuts, and skipping from one layout to another a lot, so it makes it harder and longer to switch between them. I have included a picture to illustrate this.

Also, to avoid making two threads (unless I should), does anyone know how to edit the layouts of the Korean IME's layout, so I can have the Korean characters in a custom layout, instead of the prescribed way? Many thanks in advance for both questions, and thank you for your time!

I am posting this for my daughter, as she can't use her computer.

I'm wondering if you can help me with a issue. A friend gave me his system in exchange for money owned to me. During a move on his part he lost/misplaced the manual for the Netbook. I have been able to run the system for months without it until yesterday. I powered down the unit for a few hours and rebooted upon arriving home. When it came back up, Windows loaded properly until it came to clicking on the family usernames, of which their are two. One for my husband, one for myself and one "kid" (with the proper child settings). When I clicked on my username, the drop down did not appear for me to enter my password. It was as if it's frozen or locked. I powered down the unit and brought it back up again, repeated the process, the same results. I attempted to click on my husbands username with no success. So I powered down once more, brought the unit back up and clicked on the my username, and it's as if the unit is locked. No one but me had used it for a week, so I can't think of anything that might have been done.

I am clueless as to where to go from here without the manual. I don't remember clicking on anything that would have "locked" anything or changed any settings that would make it impossible for us to gain access to our username's. The personal settings will not load, of course. My first thought was that perhaps NumLk was on but that didn't see... Read more

Hi there - ok heres the challenge:

I need a retractable, articulating, ergonomic keyboard tray that slides under or out of a 5 deep desk skirt/apron at a 90 degree angle.

Basically, when I want to use my keyboard, I would like to pull it out from under this skirt in a position that in effect creates an L to my desk.

Web search only finds products that pull out parallel to the "facing" length of the desk, or fit in corner units at a diagonal.

Any suggestions? Thanks -- summersunlight

A:keyboard tray customizing challenge

Summer Sunlight:

I think I may have a solution to your problem. We offer a sit / stand keyboard system that includes a head that can spin 360 degrees or 90 degrees in your case. You are able to rotate the keyboard tray back into a normal position when sliding it under the 5" desk area. This will mean you are able to put more of the keyboard tray under the desk. The only thing I am concerned with is the amount of space and quality of product we are mounting the keyboard system to. The Sit / Stand Keyboard System I recommend is a faily heavy unit and you will want to be able to apply pressure to keyboard tray. What is the maximum area or depth that we have to mount the track to (keyboard system will slide back and forth on this). We have some ability to build custom orders and shorten tracks if need be. Let me know and I will see what I can do for you.

Thanks.

Do not clean with untreated compressed air.

If I press 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, the laptop gets a BSoD and reboots.

I did also install some automatic (mouse) software for a Microsoft mouse I was going to use; and I deleted that in `System properties` after this problem arose; but there is no change.

Whenever I type on the numberpad (especially the plus sign), the PS shuts down with a Blue screen of Death BSoD.

Any ideas?

A:Satellite A660: After upgrade to Win 8.1 BSOD appears using keyboard

Hi Roger,
From my knowledge the Windows 8.1 isn?t supported on Satellite A660 because there are no special Windows 8.1 drivers for this notebook series but even if such drivers have not been published, it should not be a big problem to install and to run the Windows 8.1 on this unit.

I?m wondering how did you install the Win 8.1 on this notebook?
Did you upgrade from Windows 7 to Win 8.1 or did you perform an clean Win 8.1 installation?

Here is an nice Microsoft page providing some FAQs about the update to Windows 8.1
[Update to Windows 8.1: FAQ|http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8]

In case you did a UPGRADE to Win 8.1 you can use Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant to check if your programs and devices are compatible with Windows 8.1.

I would be also interesting to know if the same BSOD would appear if external keyboard would be connected to the notebook.
In case the usage of external keyboard would NOT cause BSOD, I assume the internal keyboard is faulty and could be the troublemaker.

Hi,

So I've recently bought a few new games in one bundle and was excited to play them until, as the title suggests, the up arrow started freaking out and acted as if it was stuck in the main menu of Enter the Gungeon. After forcing my way through the menu to the main game, my character started walking upwards no matter what I did. I then tested with another game and had the same result.

I've tried three separate keyboards, three separate games, obviously i rebooted immediately, I've tried system restore, none of which have worked.

After looking up the problem, I've found people experiencing similar symptoms who managed to get around it by changing the power settings on their keyboard through control panel, turning off a 'USB auto-suspend' option that apparently was making keyboards stick after five seconds of non-use in a game. This didn't work for me however, as for some reason the 'change settings' button doesn't appear for me, even though I am an administrator on my computer, and my keyboard always behaves (in-game, anyway) as if 'up' is stuck, rather than sticking after five seconds. I managed to find the 'auto-suspend' option people were discussing through device manager and turn it off, but that had no effect whatsoever.

These articles have been my main resources so far, so that should give a bit of perspective on the nature of the problem and what I know about it/have tried so far. If anyone can think of anything not mentioned there that's worth tryi... Read more

Hello dioskilos, A tip of the hat to noahdfear for this fix. Print out these instructions as we will need to shutdown every window that is open later in the fix.Download SmitRem and save the file to your desktop. Double click on smitRem.exe and then click on Start. When it is done, click on the OK button. You should now have a folder called smitRem on your desktop.Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:Restart your computerAfter hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appearSelect the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode. When your computer has started in safe mode and you see the desktop, close all open Windows.Open the smitRem folder on your desktop and double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool.Follow the prompts on screen and wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish. When the tool is finished, it will will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or the partition where your operating system is installed. Examining that log should show that the infection was cleaned.Reboot your computer back to normal mode.Click on the Start button, then click on All Programs (or Programs), and then locate the SpywareStrike folder and right-click on it. Select the option to delete that folder. Post a fresh Hijackthis log, the smitfiles.txt log, and tell me how your computer is running.

Hello to whomever responds to this thread. This is the first time I've used one of these help forums and my knowledge of computer lingo is limited, but I'd be greatful if you could help me with this problem.

A little while ago I downloaded an application which turned out to be a 'trojan', or so I believe. Upon opening it I received an error report, and my antivirus program (Symantec) informed me that several items with .trojan in their name had been detected and deleted. I was also advised to reboot my computer, and after doing so I became aware of a little red shield icon in my system tray. Clicking it brings up a question which reads:

"Would you like to update your security software and download System Live Protect?"

I have not clicked yes because I believe this may be a problem. Furthermore, whenever I open Internet Explorer, there is an error report: "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close."

I am unsure as to whether these two problems are related, but that is my suspicion. Is there anything that can be done?

Thanks for reading

Hello,
I somehow got a Spydawn system alert popup virus after downloading codecs from the 'net thinking it was safe, i was wrong. I knew i shouldn't have trusted the download but did it anyways.
I managed to get rid of some items that were sent to my desktop plus the system alert that was in my control panel-add/remove programs. I ran ewido, adware, spybot and smitfraud, it doesn't say smitfraud fix..? I even did all of this in safe mode too, but the system alert popup is still flashing in the bottom right corner but now i can not access internet explorer...can't make a connection to the internet.

I don't see anything referring to spydawn in the log.

My Hijackthis log displayed these files that appear to be part of my problem.
I have no internet connection so i can't show you the complete log unless i copy all of it word for word...which i did for just these particular ones that seem suspicious.

I would appreciate some help please, with cleaning a desktop computer of a "ContraVirus' program installation. This is for a Windows 98se desktop computer - not currently connected to the internet (but this can be arranged later, if necessary. I am currently using a separate computer for Internet access and research - WinXp notebook computer).
The affected system (Win98se) appears to have installed "ContraVirus 2.0" program, 12 months ago and due to a recent change of owner and internet connection on dial-up is now becoming unuseable. Some symptoms are: Unable to enter Safe Mode, have an icon in system tray showing 'Virus Alert' with white cross in red circle. Left or right mouse clicks on the cross gets no response. Dial up connection periodically tries to connect (This maybe AVG antivirus, though). Recent add/remove program uninstalls have been done for 'ContraVirus 2.0' and 'Sierra - planner.exe'. AVG 6.0 Anti-Virus will not download updates, reporting that a file is missing?. AVG scan shows clean, but registry still has ContraVirus entries.

Hi,

I've been having some very slow system issues today and have checked that system resources seem to be at normal levels - CPU usage at around 20% and Memory usage at around 50% during normal operating.

However I have noticed a new icon in my system tray which I can't identify, can't click on, and has no text when I hover over it. Can anyone recognise it? It looks like a grey/silver square or box with something green on it - no idea what it's trying to represent

Does anyone know what it represents?

Cheers, Smootus

No big deal, but I was just wondering why the virtual keyboard only appears about 1 time out of 10 when one logs on. It seems that when the keyboard was added as part of an update it worked every time. Is there a way to set it to appear every time, or is this just another Win 10 glitch?

I am an engineer working in the Chicago area. Sometime, I have to do inspection work on some structures and to make sure that the projects adhere to the rules and regulations of local, state, federal, etc.   Traditionally, we would be going through
several books, each one having several thousand pages long. I would have to look through tens of thousands of different values to plug into my calculations.

So, I started writing my own app to make my life easier.  Metro doesn't have an autocompletebox, so I had to write my own.  There are actually a lot of things that metro makes my life hard, but I've been overcoming them with codes.

The one thing that I cannot change is the keyboard.  The keyboard takes over almost 2/3 of the screen, covering up everything important.  This is an annoyance that I've been feeling and when other inspectors try out my app they also complain about
the same thing. It seems like you used braindead users for your research or something. People who do real work need to see more of the screen when we input values out in the field.

To solve this, I've had to disable the textboxes when there is no physical keyboard present and created my own keyboard that doesn't get in the way of the fields.

Why won't MS allow the option for us to resize or move the keyboard?  Why do we have to follow what bloggers and brain dead users do?

A:critical system error popups from system tray

You do have Smitfraud so we need to do the following:

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.

A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report ... Read more

Ok, Thank you guys in advanced before I start.

So for some odd reason today on one of my laptops my wifi seems to not be working. Usually I like to go and look at my wifi signal to see what Im connected to as soon as I boot m computer. Well this time I started it up and the wifi system icon will not show up. Of course I go to customize to see if its disabled and if I can enable it. Well the option doesn't even show up. I restarted the computer and even used system restore nothing seems to work. I ran a wireless network troubleshoot and it says the problem cant be resolved. Im on one of my other laptops because I cant access the internet on the laptop.

So can anyone help me at all? Im new to this forum I think but I do have FRST so if anybody has an idea please let me know. I will provide all the information I can if you tell me what i need to get.

A:Wifi system icon not showing up in system tray.

Have you checked Device Manager?  Are there any problems noted with the wifi connection there?
Have you tried:
- downloading a fresh copy of the wifi driver from the manufacturer's website
- uninstalling the current wifi software/drivers
- installing the freshly downloaded drivers?

Have you tried to reset tcp, ip, and winsock?
From an elevated Command Prompt run (and press Enter after each command.  Reboot when done):
netsh int tcp reset
netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset

I am running Windows 7 64 bit. I also have used Webroot Secure for a few years.
On 9/3 Windows notified me of updates available - I installed but did not reboot at that time.
I rebooted the system 9/7. After rebooting I saw two programs not normally seen at startup:
SyncIOS (showed connected to a device but was not) and Skype (i remember seeing this in the update)
I closed Sync IOS and tried to close Skype and saw the 1st BSOD - the system then rebooted
This time only Skype showed (other than normal startup icons) tried ctl-alt-del to close it ? 2nd BSOD
Repeated above ? same 3rd BSOD
Booted into Safe Mode using F8 ? tried to uninstall Skype ? Windows Uninstaller not working
Looked at System Restore ? had no backup points
Rebooted manually ? tried to get back into Safe Mode but F8 did not work
Tried again ? same result

I can't seem to find the solution to this. I had found one for windows 8 way back when I had first got that. But no matter how hard I try I can't remember where I found the solution before. I don't want the virtual keyboard to appear on the screen unless I tap on it's icon in the task bar. I have a bluetooth keyboard that is 99% of the time used. I only need the virtal keyboard in rare circumstances when for one reason or another I can't or don't want to use the bluetooth keyboard. How do I get it so the virtual keyboard does that?

Use on screen keyboard is not checked in ease of access > use the computer without a mouse or keyboard. In settings > devices > typing, automatically show the touch keyboard option all the way down at the bottom is turned off. Ease of access > keyboard > turn on on screen keyboard is set to off. I don't see any other settings anywhere related to the virtual keyboard. And yet the thing is still popping up every time a text box in anything is in focus. Thanks

A:How do I hide virtual keyboard?

Just a guess, maybe Windows can't detect your bluetooth keyboard so it is displaying the on-screen-keyboard.

I got 2 questions regarding the virtual keyboard:

1) Is there a keyboard a way to make it transparent?

2) At times the virtual keyboard doesnt pop up when I press a text field in a browser with my finger. Is there a program that can configure it to make it behave the way you want it to?

Don't know where to post this,so please redirect.
Ever since updating to the latest version of Firefox 3.5.1, my virtual keyboard from Kaspersky 2009 (combo firewall+anti virus) will not work thru Firefox. It does work in I.E., but I prefer using Firefox for everything!

I went to the Kaspersky forum for help, did a system check+removed Spybot Search+Destroy using Revo uninstaller.
The problem still persists using Firefox. Some "advanced" member at Kaspersky suggested I do a complete uninstall of Firefox, then reinstall. I don't know how on earth to do this+definitely don't want to lose all my bookmarks!

I've posed this problem at the Mozzila forum also, but have not heard back.

Just an fyi-there seemed to be a bit of bickering between 2 of the members at the Kaspersky forum, which leaves me uncomfortable in getting the help I need.

B.C. is the place I can always count on, so please help me in this matter.

Thank you

Is it possible to reduce the size of the virtual keyboard so that it doesn't take up 50% of the screen? I switch to floating instead of docked which gives me very little gain over it being docked. what i would like is the floating virtual keyboard to be shrunk a third to half of it's size. That way it only takes up about 25% of the screen. Is this possible? Thanks.

laptop does not enter standby mode. Error message (paraphrased) is:
"System Standby Failed. Device driver 'SMS Virtual Keyboard' is preventing the machine from entering standby. Close all applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to update this driver."

No known applications were open and the problem persists.

I did stop the SMS Services, and still get the same message.

Any Ideas!

I have a device manager device warning for the Lenovo Virtual Keyboard. The manager says the driver is corrupted and will not load. Everything seems to work. The touchscreen keyboard comes up when I ask from the lower taskbar.  It sometimes comes up on some web sites and some entry areas. I have no problem with how it works right now. The device manager should not have a device that is not loading or have a driver that is corrupt.

A:windiwsfsearch, "System Alert!" in system tray

Hey there. Since I haven't received a reply in over five days, I thought I'd take the opportunity to add a couple of pieces of information to the puzzle. I guess I should have mentioned that I am using XP SP3 and IE 7.I don't have that weird "system alert" symbol in the system tray anymore. I just ignored it and it went away. Wish that worked for cancer. It was probably more of a symptom than a cause.I tried to roll back using system restore with no luck, it wouldn't allow me to restore to an earlier restore point. System restore is currently off. I turned on tea timer and it blocked some registry changes.I'm having a lot of trouble with Hijack This. When it runs it slows way down while scaning 015 Trusted Zone Enumeration. I will try to unistall and re-install it.Now my HJT log looks different than it originally did. Here's my topic with the old log. Here's a current log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 7:13:40 AM, on 10/18/2008Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16735)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MsMpEng.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\aawservice.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgwdsvc.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\CTsvcCDA.EXEC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:... I recently bought a HP Spectre x360 - 13-4159nd and I noticed when switching the laptop into tablet mode, no virtual keyboard shows up. In the settings I've turned on the option to Optimise Windows when the device is being used as a tablet, but this just switches the screen to tablet mode while I'm still using it in laptop mode. The option is also automatically turned off again, when switching between different modes. In the settings -> devices -> typing the option to automatically show the screen keyboard when no physical keyboard is attached to the device is turned on. Is there any way to solve the problem of the missing virtual keyboard? tl;dr: No virtual keyboard when using tablet mode, optimise function doesn't work and option to show screen keyboard when no physical keyboard is attached is on.

has anyone else had this annoyance today? i turned on my computer and went to ie7 and got the lovely message microsoft has encountered and error and needs to close. i got the same message when i opened my system restore also. now on system restore you dont have to be on the internet to use it so i dont know what caused it to go stupid. so i decided to uninstall ie7 thinking it would roll back to ie6, nope had no ie at all. so i just went through aol and installed a fresh copy of ie 7. so far so good. id sure like to know why this happens as it annoying as heck. i know people hate aol but ours is free as we have our own broadband through roadrunner plus they switched us to free when i called them and the credit card we started the service with expired and we didnt renew the card. thats how we fixed them. if anyone else is annoyed with aol and wants it free just cancel the card your using so you wont get billed anymore and tell them you want it free if you can bring your own connection.

So today I did a system restore on my laptop, a Sony Vaio, and for some reason it re-started my computer in repair mode. Repair mode was taking unusually long to complete so I held the power button to restart my Laptop. (I've done this before without any problems). Windows loads and I log in, but after 2 seconds of loading the BSoD pops up and my computer automatically restarts.

Upon restart, Windows loads regularly. After the Windows logo does it's usual loading animation It takes me to a black screen. I have the options to:

Run in Safe Mode
Run in Safe Mode with Networking
Run in Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Run Windows Normally

It doesn't matter which option I choose, beyond this point the computer takes me to a black screen which I always notice, right before the log-in screen loads, except, the log-in screen doesn't load and the black screen stays on the screen.

So I am wondering if is possible to change the default win 7 virtual keyboard to another customizable virtual keyboard. Your help or thoughts would be appreciated thanks in advance.

A:Change the default virtual keyboard on login screen

On-Screen Keyboard in Windows 7 can be replaced with other on screen keyboard by replacing the file C:\Windows\System32\osk.exe
(First, need to take ownership Take Ownership Shortcut)

For test purposes I have tried that with freevirtualkeyboard.com and it worked in windows and in Log in screen.

(I would NOT recommend freevirtualkeyboard.com - it goes on it's website each time you start it)

Firefox is finally 64-bit on your Windows PC
I've long been tired of using edge on my hpstream7.
Made the mistake of upgrading it to windows 10 and deleting the backup of 8.1 when i was prompted.
Recently i was just researching on how exactly to go back to 8.1 so i could use metro IE, but maybe this will hold me over.
Edge is the worst browser i've ever used on a computer, even worse on my tablet. Get's hung up all the time, doesn't respond, drop down boxes work at random, etc..
Recently on my laptop i went back to firefox and it seems to work pretty good.
Tried the same on my tablet, but virtual keyboard still didn't automatically pop up.
With today's update, it works.
Hopefully it can be my new old goto browser again.

I have a Toshiba Qosmio Dx730.
I am not using the supplied wireless keyboard, but a standard D+ll wired keyboard as I prefer the keyboard layout.

However the keyboard indicator for the virtual keyboard is malfunctioning, and appears in the bottom left of the screen randomly (regardless of whether I hit caps lock or not).

It has now begun to randomly switch Caps Lock on and off, for no apparent reason.

Can I switch the keyboard indicator off somehow?
I never use the virtual keyboard, so I would be happy for that to be turned off as well.

Thanks for any assistance!
Lyn

A:Qosmio Dx730 - virtual keyboard indicator issue

Hi

The virtual keyboard indicator (icons) in the lower right corner of the screen appears because the provided WiFi keyboard does not support the indicators for NUM LOCK, CAPS LOCK and SCROLL LOCK. Therefore the ?virtual? indicators appears to shows the status of mentioned buttons.

You can turn the icons ON/OFF by clicking the Toshiba keyboard indicator in the notification area on the task bar.

Good Day, I'm new here and I've got a strange sort of problem. Recently my computer decided that system restore would come up stating that it couldn't restore my computer to that day's date. It also states that this is the result of an improper shutdown which was done during the system restore. The only thing is I hadn't done a system restore during that time. I tried going back before the date by two days and although it said that the restore was done successfully it still comes up now it comes up with the same message and the day's date that the computer has been started up. Has anyone ever seen this and do you have any ideas on how to correct it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
WAR1

A:System Restore keeps saying it can't be restored to today's date

I would think it was something that is corrupted in the system restore database or however is stores the information.

Only thing i could think of, would be to turn off the system restore for a day or two, then try turning it back on (might forget the old restores).

It's not immediately clear what this is for. It isn't just for upgrading to a new o/s .

It has lots of other useful functions.

It consists of Partition Manager (personal edition ), and the Virtualization manager.

Even if you already have the partition manager, it is worth the download for the Virtualization manager.
That includes the Boot Corrector to resolve most common boot problems,
and P2P Adjust Recover the OS startup ability after system migration to a different hardware platform.

Also, unusually for GOTD downloads, Paragon normally let you keep the installer , so as long as you keep a copy of the product key - you can reinstall the product as often as you like.

Right click the task bar, left click properties, untick 'lock the taskbar',and tick the box that says 'hide inactive icons'. That should shrink the space and bring your arrow back. Repeat to relock the taskbar.

I am very finicky about having as minimal amount of things on my desktop as possible, and with all of my system tray icons I have set them to 'always hide', only leaving my internet connection there.

When I restart my pc, some of the ones I have set to hide come back, with the option being 'hide when inactive'. How can I get it so that the ones I want to hide are always hidden??

I know it doesn't sound like much but it is really annoying. Also when I switch my PC on, the language bar always appears. This is something I have never used, but everytime without fail it appears. How can I get rid of this so it does not come up??

Thanks

How do I find the source of programs (icons) that get automatically loaded into my System Tray at the bottom right of the screen? There is nothing in any of the profiles under Startup so they must be triggered somewhere else. Thanks for the help.

A:XP Pro System Tray-How's it get there?

There are lost of ways things get loaded into the system tray.

For starter, programs make entries in the Windows registry that makes them start when you boot the system. However, I strongly discourage you from rummaging around in the Windows registry. It is a veritable labrynth of information, and scary as it is, if you delete the wrong thing you are screwed.

Another things that programs do to get loaded upon start up are make entries in the windows system files. Goto START>RUN>SYSEDIT and look through the system files for anything that references the programs in question. Pleace REM statement in front of that line to diable it, and restart.

Programs can also make entries in your start menu that get run on startup. Right click on the start button and goto explore. If there are any icons that pertain to the program in question, delete them.

You may also want to consider right clicking on the program icon itself and looking through the properties for a toggle box which will disable the "Run this program at startup" command.

Here is a few of the most common ways programs annoy you through your system tray.

I know this is a virus/trojan. I just need to know how to get it removed. When I try to load up my task manager, it says my system administrator has blocked it.

Here in the snapshot of the virus/trojan on my computer -

I can open up my task manager through a third party program and this seems to be the culprit: vxh8jkdq2.exe and maybe a few others. I'm not sure. I would also like to get rid of the other harmful stuff on my computer. Would appreciate a fast reply though I know you guys are busy. :). Anyway, Here is my Hijack This Log:

A:Two Red X's at my System Tray

Don't want to sound redundant here, but I managed to do an online virus scan. Now those two red x's seem to be gone, but for some reason I still cannot access my task manager. I really want to fix this soon.

EDIT: I also noticed that each time I removed this file (vxh8jkdq2.exe), it recreated itself by adding a different number to the file. Like morphing itself into something else. I am viewing my processes through a third party program.

EDITED MORE: It's similar to the problem this user had-

The system tray has disappeared from the bottom of my monitor.  It seems like the screen has moved down so that 1/3 of the bottom half is missing on startup.  Instead of the welcome being centered, it is more towards the bottom and you can't see Microsoft that you usually see in the bottom corner.  Help please.
