Games folder doesn't update with information about newly installed games.

Q: Games folder doesn't update with information about newly installed games.

I was under the impression Vista was supposed to automatically download game information from allgame.com and display the game's information when you click on the thumbnail? My Vista hasn't done that since I installed BF2 and I haven't been able to manually add information using VGEE because I accidentally deleted the BF2 information and haven't been able to get another games information to show up since!

A: Games folder doesn't update with information about newly installed games.

It was my understanding that only games with the "Games for Windows" tag will show up in the games folder like you are talking about. I could be wrong tho.

I'm running 64-bit Windows Vista Home Premium on a system I built myself just the other day. I've recently installed multiple games (Age of Conan, Spore and Warhammer Online) and none of them have created start menu groups. There were no options that I saw during the installation to request their creation. Some applications have created groups like the EA download manager that came with spore, World of Warcraft, Quicktime, etc, so at least it's partially working. Is this a known Vista issue? What can I do to fix it?Thanks

I just recieved my pre-order of spore on Friday and couldn't wait to play it.
After the installation and the read me and registration I double clicked the spore icon on my desktop waiting for a splash screen, a black screen, or a window to appear. None appeared. I thought that I just need to wait a while so I waited for about ten minutes before I opened task manager and looked at the processes, and wouldn't you know SporApp.exe is running using 63,000KB of memory. At this point I have no idea what's wrong. I try uninstalling and re installing. I try defragmenting my disk, and running it on other accounts. I've even done a repair of windows to see if that helped but it didn't.

After searching the web for answers I found this site which had a thread that adressed a similar problem. I followed the advice and found that when Microsoft's Plug and Play was disabled that I could run spore, but now there's no sound. And to make it worse when I open device manager it shows up empty. Also there's no speaker icon in the system tray.

Additionally I've just installed a new game to see if I just got a bad copy of spore. And it has the same problem it won't start unless plug and play is disabled. But with this game the splash screen appears and a warning message appears saying my sound drivers are being used and I need to shut down any programs that are using it but there are no other programs running and the speaker isn't in the sys... Hi,

I've been having problems with games crashing with c0000005 as soon as I run them. This isn't happening with games I've had installed for a while, it has only started when i've tried to install new games in the last month or so. I've attached my files from the SF tool. I was wondering if anyone had any pointers?

Thanks in advance.

A:c0000005 errors when running newly installed games

Hi, Welcome to Seven forums.

A C0000005 Error is a Windows System error, not a VFP Error. It is an Exception Error that occurs when a process (application, driver, etc.) tries to execute a processor command that references memory outside the space allocated to that process by the Operating System.

There are many possible causes ranging from corrupt data tables, to a bad network connection, ActiveX controls, or Printer or Video driver errors.

And from the attached files, I will suggest you to install/update DirectX. Please update your system specs. Update the drivers for graphic card and sound.

Keep us posted.

I got rid of the WildTangent games console that came on my Toshiba computer, however, the games still show up. I have carefully removed registry entries related to it(making a backup of the registry) and they still remain. I have also used Revo Uninstaller Pro and removed what it found. What am I doing wrong, I know they aren't doing me any harm, but they annoy the @!#$$ out of me.

The CD-RW that came with my Sont Vaio computer malfunctioned. Best Buy installed a new one since it was under warranty. The new one is an Ultraspeed Memorex. My Computer shows it as a CD-RW and it has a recorder tab. The device manager however shows it as a CD-ROM. Nero5 was installed with the new drive. If I enable the recorder tab, it tries to write but an error message comes up saying it can't complete. If I diable the recorder tab, I get a G drive not accessable, wrong command. Short of returning it to Best Buy who took a week andd a half to install it, does anybody know if there is a simpler solution. Thanks.

A:Newly installed CD-RW doesn't write

I personally would take it back - they should fix it free of charge because it was not done right the first time. It shouldn't be your headache.

If you want to try to fix it, go to http://www.nero.com/us/631933457317970.html and download the latest patches to Nero. Check your Nero to see if its 5.0 or 5.5 for the update.

Also the recorder tab is Windows built-in burning support provided by Roxio. You should be able to disable it without affecting Nero, and sometimes it has to be disabled for proper operation. Don't use drag and drop in Explorer for burning CD's but use Nero to burn.

I have just built a PC with the following specs:
Rampage III Motherboard
Intel i7 920 Processor
Corsair dominator 4GB
2 x XFX GT250 (SLi)
Coolermaster V8 CPU Cooler
2 x Western Digital Raptor (RAIDED)
Cosmos Pure Black Gaming case

When playing high intense games the PC crashes. The screen goes black and I can hear the game still in the background, but its in a weird loop. The only way is to power off the PC. I was originally using both cards in SLi, but went to only one because i thought it was some how overheating. But it does the same thing with one XFX card. I have alternated the cards, and does the same.
Im able to view the ASUS PC PROBE while playing Left 4 Dead II in a full window mode. It dosnt appear to be overheating. On idle the CPU - 32, MB - 29, Both north and South Bridge around 50 - is this normal? When under strain the CPU goes to about 50, MB - 38 and north and south bridge stay pretty much the same! I am sooo confused, I just dont understand what could be causing this!
Everything in the PC is new except for the XFX Cards, these were second hand, but seem to be fine when playing not so intense games. Any ideas would be greatly appreiciated!

A:Newly built pc crashes when playing games

Try this simple diagnostic step: Take off your side panel and have a small fan on low setting blow directly into your system. Then play your most intense game. Any issues?

Also, have you updated the video card drivers?

I've been having these crashes every time I play a video game, It's been happening ever since I purchased win8 pro.
I've re-installed windows 4 times now, and the problem keeps persisting.

I've also changed the HDD into SSD. The RAM, GPU and motherboard were also changed. but the screen still appears after all that. And I ended up with a new pc but with the same problem.

ATTACHMENT CHANGED (Y), yet I don't think it's a driver related issue here. the BSOD is triggered with high spec games, and I've seen it crash instantly with high graphics specs.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).

Older version is the driver xusb21.sys the newer version is the driver xusb22.sys

I am experiencing BSOD crashes intermittently when launching and playing Rift. It has also crashed once while surfing the net.

Computer specs:

AMD Phenom II X4 955
Sapphire Radeon HD 69870
Corsair GS700 (700watt PSU)
2x2GB GSkill Ripjaw DDR3 1600Mhz

I have a 80GB SATA HD and a 180GB IDE HD I use for storage. Both of these hard drives were used on my old setup, however when reinstalling windows, I reformatted the 80GB completely.

Retail Windows 7 x64 Ultimate (installed 2 days ago)
I have run MemTest86+ on both slots with both sticks through 7+ passes with no errors whatsoever.

I have used DriverSweep to clean up drivers, the sweep uninstalled my ATI drivers which i reinstalled from the website.

Attached is the dump analysis and performance analysis.

Your Help is greatly appreciated!! If any other information / tests is needed I am standing by!

Hi folks,

Something has always puzzled me, then again everything does lol but you know when you click on start and there is a Games button that you can use to play and manage your games? well when I install my games only some appear in there and its rather handy to see the ratings and such, not that I really follow it, but that is another story.

Back to my question, why do only a few games appear there, if anyone does'nt know what I mean, its the the screen which has a trophy icon on it and then the ratings etc.........I just find that only a few games appear there, but not all that I have installed, is this just a quirk of Vista? or is there something I can do to make it show all of them?

As I install alot of games, I would like them all to appear there, but am confused as to why not.

I borrowed a 19" Phillips LCD monitor to try out and found that Quake 3 Arena would fail to start (open gl error). GTR 2 (racing game from Simbin) would start to boot then just dump itself back to windows without even seeing the loading screen. Doom 3 seemed to work o.k. A friend has a 19" widescreen (Phillips) and has the same problems, it just throws him out of games. My 19" Dell CRT monitor works fine. I was going to buy a Chimei 22" widescreen LCD but not if this problem keeps occuring. Can anyone tell me why? Do I need to load the monitor drivers which I hadn't done? Thanks. Mike.E

A:LCD doesn't like games

There is no inherent problem with LCDs and gaming. I use a viewsonic 22" LCD and run UT3, UT2004, RTCW, etc without problems.

I would check what you have the refresh rate set to; lcd monitors often will not support high refresh rates. One other thing to consider. Older lcd monitors have poor response times and are not good for gaming. The newer ones are fine. At work we had some of the very first LCD screens and they were terrible for even scrolling through a web page. After the first gen, they were much better.

Generally you do not have to load any driver for a lcd monitor.

I recently bought 6 Atari computer games to play. I picked out Sorry to install and play first. The game completely installed but I can't seem to get it to play now... You know when you start a computer game ( such as Hasbro Interactive ) it usually has an animation beginning that you can skip past by clicking on the screen? I clicked on the screen and it closed out and brought me back to my desktop. So the next time around I decided to just watch the tutorial and when it was over it closed out again. Did I incorrectly install my game or what is the problem here? I am staring at 6 games that I really want to play.

First, I hope this is the correct forum. Please move if necessary.

I use Quicken Deluxe 2011 on my primary computer. Earlier this week I decided to install the program on my laptop as well, providing a backup just in case the desktop computer died or the program failed. I successfully imported the current data, and the program appears to run correctly. This morning I noted on my laptop (only) that Secunia indicated an update to the msxml.dll was needed, and the timing of the Quicken installation suggests Quicken is the only program requiring this fairly obsolete file. A bit of research shows I should get the 4.0 update to 4.30 rather than the 6.0 Secunia would install. This 4.30 is the file I have on my primary computer. I have found instructions on the Secunia forum for a manual update, but I'm wondering is I can merely copy the file with the newer version to my laptop, replacing the old out-of-date 4.20.

Thank you for any help!

A:msxml.dll 4.20 installed with Quicken 11 Deluxe - update information

When I try to load full screen games my computer craps out and reboots. When Vista Ultimate x64 loads, it says my ATI graphics controller failed, but windows can not find a solution to this problem!

This has failed with CoD4 and the benchmark program that comes with the video card. I am running catalyst 8.8 because the others did not work for me either. When I install my drivers I uninstall ATI software through windows control panel, and reboot, then install new drivers and reboot again. Does anyone know what is causing this problem? I tried running CoD4 at different resolutions, 19xx x 16xx etc. I have a 24" monitor. If you need anymore info pls ask!

Thanks
p.s. I just updated to SP1 overnight, so I'm not sure if this will help or not.

A:Installed 4870x2 now I cant play games =[

They are very powerhungry buggers them 4870X2. how's your PSU? It can also be temperature issues, as I bet it runs quite hot too.

And being a brand new card, driver issues are more likely a fact than just a probability... The price of sticking to the cutting edge...

SP1 is a basic requirement for a useful vista... Asking before having it installed is like asking for solutions to issues with roadgrip after trying a car with 3 of 4 wheels mounted.

I had installed a few games on my XP and for some weird reason, I could play some and not others (I bought a box that had 6 Hasbro Interactive board games). So the fact that I could only play half of what was in the box didn't make any sense. So, I went under the manufacturer's website and found the solution within seconds. This is what they told me to do, and it worked:
Right click on your desktop.
Click on properties.
Click on the settings tab.
Click on the advanced button.
Click on the troubleshoot tab.
Move the sliding bar ONE notch to the left or right.
Click OK twice to close out.
Try your game again. If it doesn't work, go back and move over ONE more notch. Do this until your game works. You do not have to reset it to play your other games. Very good luck to you all!

Try selecting only one game at a time from the expanded "Games" list from the same "Turn Windows Features On And Off" box.

Your friends Windows XP with SP3, may not be authentic
And therefore it may have some bugs in it (as all non-authentic Windows versions have)

You can contact Dell >> HERE, on you "Dell Computer" (model unknown) and purchase a Restore disc, at a very cheap price (ie you just want the disc not the key)

Once you receive your Restore disc (at a cheap price ) Then install Windows with that

Hi all. Ok so I am a video game geek and I love to play games. So then my keyboard and Joysticks worked and everything until yesterday. I use ePSXe Playstation emulator to play games from PS1 and stuff. So yesterday I opened it and I went to Controll Configuration to configure my controlls. It gives me and Error: Error Initializing DirectInput. So then my emulator shuts down. Even when I run my ISO Playstation games it gives me that error and the game starts but my controlls don't work. So then I thaught to play my PC Games. So Boot one up and the black screen opens than the screen turns of and goes back to the desktop. Then I tried another game the same thing happened. I tried all my games and that's what happens. So then I put my Donald Duck's Goi'n [email protected]! Game and it boots up then it goes to the place where I have to choose the language but my keyboard doesn't work! I pressed anything but it doesn't work. Not even the ALT+ F4 or Control + ALT+ DELETE. Nothing. So I just turn my computer of via the button on the CPU. So my keyboard doesn't work with any games. I have played all those games but now they stopped working. So I went to Controll Panel to check on the Game Controllers but it doesn't open. I keeped on opening it but doesn't open. When I double click it the mouse shows te busy sign for 1 or 2 secs and nothing happens! So now I am really worried. I NEED HELP! I am so frustrated with this problem! HELP!

I have a windows xp media center addition. its a couple years old. 6800 graphics card. i think i have all the most recent drivers.Alright. Well I just recently had a problem with a "missing or currupt" system file on my computer. so after following these instructions that i found on a forum (http://forums.driverguide.com/showthread.php?t=3788) that basically told me to delete a file then restore it. After that had happend i had some problems that were pretty minor and i fixed a majority of them. but there are still some things that i just cant figure out no matter how many hours i put into searching. The problems aree:1. When i right click on my desktop and go into properties, there are no tabs for the display properties window. It just comes up with the "theme" window but doesnt show any tabs. when i select a different theme then i can see all the tabs, but i dont know why they dont jsut show up the whole time. (i've tried getting these registry fixes but they dont seem to work.)2. all of my buttons on system windows (such as display properties and the toolbar properties window) show up as classic, instead of my old windows xp kind i used to have. i dont really know how to get that back to normal3. after i got my computer working again after the whole missing file thing, i only had the administrative account but all my files from my old account were still there.(i got teh instructions here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151/) so i copied them ov... Ok i have a computer that runs on both windows xp and windows vista home premium.i can select which one i want to use when it boots up. I installed some games on XP a while back but now i primarily use vista.Whenever i start a game on vista that was installed on xp, the game gets some sort of error. When i start the xp installed game on windows xp it works just fiine. I primarily use vista and i want to be able to play the games i installed on windows xp on vista. Please much help would be nice.

A:Playing Windows XP Installed Games On Vista

what is the error you receive?

when you boot into vista, you running the game from the xp partition? if so, that might be your problem. i'm guessing that you would need to install the game directly into your vista partition for it to work right.

Very recently I have built two brand new computers, one for myself, and one for my boyfriend, and all of the hardware seems to function, at least from the outside. Our computers are completely identical in build and in specs. They were built less than a month ago, and the only differences between the two are that he has his HDDs set up in RAID 0, and my own in RAID 1 mirror.

Curiously, both systems share the EXACT same flaws after installing Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium on the drives. No more, no less. The flaws include: Playing games ?installed? on the HDDs will randomly crash to BSODs with no warning. It doesn?t happen at certain points in the game, it is completely random, and happens with all games ?installed? on the HDDs. HOWEVER?When running a game that plays from the DVD-ROM or CD, it runs 100% perfectly with no crashes, no errors, and zero problems. I haven?t had a single BSOD crash, or any type of crash, from a game running from a CD/DVD. ONLY games installed on the HDDs will crash randomly. In fact, the games running from the CDs/DVDs run so smoothly, it?s amazing to look at, and the GPU seems to handle those just fine.

The BSODs don?t happen at any other time. I think only once it may have happened with Firefox open on my boyfriend?s computer, but hasn?t done that since I ran a disk check. It only happens during games, now. I have yet to set up minidump, but I plan to do that after I post this. I?m posting on various forums to see if anyone has any cl... Read more

I have a Toshiba laptop, P205D-7802, Vista 32.
Until recently, I could play Free Cell, Mahjong Titans, and Spider Solitaire. Now when I click on the icon, I get "Critical Error: No suitable graphics device found."

I've worked with WildTangent who has the game console on this machine to be told that those programs don't belong to them. The ones that are from WildTangent, by the way, do work.

What could have caused these games from quit working? Any suggestions appreciated.

Do you want a DirectX file?

Thanks so much!

Wasnt sure whether to post here or in the game section, but seeing as it seems to be a problem with every game installed figured it must be a system issue rather than game specific (the problem is the same whether its a steam, origin or disk based game).
Bascially, every game installed loads fine but doesnt give the option to load saved games. The saves are there in the documents, it seems the programs just cant connect with them is there some kind of generic windows launcher or something that each game would use to load a save? done various scans nothing untoward has come up, just cant understand why something would happen with every single one

maybe just a coincidence but the desktop icons seem to have moved themselves, and all autofills and bookmarks disappeared at the same time..

any help would be appreciated, thanks

For the past week or so I've had my machine reboot whilst playing games installed onto my hard drive. From what I can gather it seems that it may have something to do with my Radeon HD 5900 graphics card driver.

The Blue Screen View software reports the following .sys file being the main problem...

atikmdag.sys (an AMD file)

Initially I tried to reinstall the drivers and software from AMD's website (I tried both 64bit versions - v14.4 and the new BETA v14.7) but I still got the same issue. I followed the instructions on AMD's website by uninstalling all of AMD software and drivers.

Then out of despiration I even tried following another users solution (from a diffrent forum) to the problem by copying the atikmdag.sy_ from my AMD folder on C: drive and copying it to my desktop then going to the command line and expanding the file thus changing it from atikmdag.sy_ to atikmdag.sys. Then I went to the System32 folder, renamed the atikmdag.sys to atikmdag.sys.old then copied the new atikmdag.sys from my desktop that I had just created and pasted it into the System32 folder then restarted my machine. I must have had a few atikmdag.sy_ files left over from previous installtions as I had chosen the wrong one with rether disasterous results (Windows crashed a few minutes after loading up)

I managed to undo the damage by booting up in safe mode, removing the offending file I'd added and reverted the original file extension back from sys.old to .sys again.

Although my system... Read more

Have you tried uninstalling the driver in Control Panel and Device Manager, then running Windows Update to see what driver Windows 7 wants as the first driver-complete OS?

To improve chances enable first Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3). You'll want to install all Important and Optional Updates, including reboots, until there are no more since there may be patches needed to make drivers work correctly. I only avoid Bingware.

If this doesn't help then uninstall that driver and install the latest from the Alienware Support Downloads webpage for your tag number. The driver may be modded by Dell which is why the driver should always come from Updates where MS vets every driver for Win7, or the PC maker who may have modded it from the manufacturer's version.

I have an Asus laptop that runs on an i7 processor. It was stocked with a windows 7 home premium OS. Games run smoothly on it, without any lags or low FPS rates.

Then I reformatted it and installed windows 8 pro (clean install). The first week of having win8 pro, games such as NBA 2K12, NFS Hot Pursuit and GTA IV ran smoothly. Then after a week, i noticed that every game, even LoL, ran with a much less FPS. It lags and as if it is impossible to play.

I reinstalled it thinking that it was just an OS problem. but lags still exists. now, i am back to windows 7 pro, and i am able to play games smoothly.

any comments? how can i play games on my laptop smoothly?

Well , what drivers are you using ? , you seems out of luck as Asus don't provide drivers for it. With notebook you better use manufacturers drivers ( asus ) AMD have a tool to check if the generic ( AMD ) driver will work on your laptop .

AMD Catalyst

On a Notebook it's very important to check if the manufacturer as the drivers for Windows 8 before install it, if I was you I will keep Windows 7 until you change your notebook.

I am using 7 Pro & this is about the Games folder that pops-out to the right & lists all the games on the comfuser. I've done this many times before for many other games, but it's not working at all for this particular game that I'm installing for my daughter: Jumpstart 1st Grade.

This is what I have done:
1. I made a folder in the C:\ for Jumpstart 1st Grade w/game shortcuts in it.

2. I then dragged the Jumpstart 1st Grade folder into the Games folder on the Orb menu (as I've done many times before).

3. I open & search the GameUXLegacyGDFs.dll file (which I have in .txt format) for Jumpstart.

4. In the Registry, under the the Jumpstart 1st Grade folder, I change the AppExePath to the location of the game's folder.

5. Still in the Registry, I change the ApplicationId to the GameDefinitiongameID for Jumpstart (from the GameUXLegacyGDFs.dll file).

6. I then change ConfigInstallType from 4 to 3.

7. Deleted the Title String.

8. Added a new String named ConfigGDFBinaryPath & set the value toC:\Windows\system32\GameUXLegacyGDFs.dll.

9. I close the Registry & open GEF, but Windows never updates the game information. The game's pic & info never changes & when I reopen the Registry, nothing gets updated. It just stays as seen in the pic below. As I've said; I've done this many times before, it's just not working this time. Any ideas?

This problem has occurred "somewhat"(I don't know when exactly) recently. I used to be able to play full screen games just fine but now (for some reason), everytime I launch a full screen game, it auto minimizes.

When I alt+tab back(or click the game icon on the task bar), it remaximizes the game but quickly gets minimized after a second.

Games play fine while in "windowed" mode(Warcraft 3, etc).. Full screen keeps minimizing.

I use Windows Vista Ultimate (64 bit):

Nvidia GeForce 8300(onboard video card).
I've done scans with Avast, Malware Bytes, and Super Antispyware and they all found nothing.

Three months ago(same system), full screen games played fine however I was on sort of a "full screen" gaming break, so I only recently tried playing full screen games like Warcraft 3 and this is when I encountered the "auto minimizes" problem.

The only major difference(between the time full screen games worked and now) is Avast 5. I upgraded from Avast 4.8 to Avast 5, other than that, there were no other major changes with the computer I am on.

Avast 5 is on Silent/Gaming mode, and I tried disabling all the shields temporarily to see if it would fix the issue but it didn't.

Does anyone have any ideas(or need anymore info that may help)? Any help will be appreciated, thanks.
Edit: I found a solution(though still looking if there is another way to "fix" this issue) - Right click on a program shortcut(or progr... Read more

somone expert please help! my asus silent 520 GT card doesn't run any new 11/12 games, keeps giving error upon launch of the following:

''failed creating D3D device of at least version10.0 on adapter ''NVIDIA GeForce GT 520'' with driver ''30124''. Error is DXGI_ERROR_UNSUPPORTED. This is typically caused by not having the minimum required DirectX support in the GPU.''

Now my card gt520 supports direct X 11 & OpenGL, and i'm running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit (which should include direct x 11. The lastest tested driver is 301 (a beta) and I'v also tried with the older driver that came with the card and another WHQL certified driver; that's 3 drivers all of them produced same error. I'v updated to directx x 11 like 6 times none of which helped. So what's going on?? anyone with any ideas please help, as I'm keen to start gaming and throw out this doggy graphics card if it's not fixable. thnx in advance

A:Help! my Geforce 520 GT doesn't support any new games, D3D DXGI_ERROR

From what I can tell from googling this problem, it's not the DX11 software on your computer that's the problem, it's the DirectX hardware support on the GPU that is lacking...

The is a common response to people reporting this problem...

Typically caused by not having the minimum directx support in the GPU. For NVIDIA GPU's. DirectX10.0 support is required.

I know the card advertises that it does have full DX11 support.

The 520 GT is a very low end card. With all due respect, if you want to play current games I'd suggest upgrading to a more capable card, perhaps a 560 for under $200

I wanted to free up some space, so I unistalled several large games (I remember at least one of them taking up nearly 2 gigs when I was installing it). None of them had their own uninstallers, nor did their CD autorun windows, so I used Add/Remove Programs and then manually deleted the leftovers. Emptied the recycle bin. Rebooted multiple times since then, no sign of any rise in hard drive space. Can there still be ghosts of these games or something on my disk after all that??

Or to be precise, some games won't start or crash.
Some background. I used to have 2 9600GT cards in Sli. Each one was 1GB in size. I replaced them with one 896MB GTX 260. I have since found that some of my games do not start or crash to desktop whilst others are fine.
I can run Crysis Warhead, Farcry 2, Empire Total War and a few other games like Rise of Legends and UFO Afterlight. The games I can not run are Red Alert 3, Fallout 3, Saints Row 2, Fear 2 and Dawn of War II. I have a few other games I've not tried yet which may or may not work.
I have the newest driver (185.85) and have even used older drivers but I have the same problem. But I think I know what the problem is.
When I start up Dawn of War II I see the menu but where I should see the game running (I should see my character and the environment) I see in huge blurred letters 'out of vid memory'.
Now I know I have taken a cut in my overall memory from a max of 2GB to a 'mere' 896 but none of these games require that much memory. A GTX 260 with 896MB should be enough, should'nt it? So, why the error? Oh and just to note all these games have been played using my Sli 9600's before I swapped to the GTX 260.
I have a DXdiag too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS. Tried STALKER: Clear Sky and while the game runs the screen is black, as if there are no graphics displayed. The HUD is visible but nothing else. It's bizarre.

PPS. Okay, after taking advice from another ... Read more

Hi -

Are you using Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120, Elby, etc.. ? If so, remove it.

Check \windows\system32\drivers for asacpi.sys - it is Asus ATK0110

Is timestamp 2004/5..?

If driver timestamp < 2009, update it - http://sysnative.com/0x1/DriverReference.html#asacpi.sys

Run - Driver Verifier - Windows 7 & Vista (BSOD-related)

Driver Verifier needs to run 24 hours minimum or until BSOD.

Then run - Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions - Windows 7 & Vista

I have all my games installed to drive D (installed thro XP drive C) and wonder if i can play them from vista (drive E) by somehow writing the files to the E registry without installing them again. I havnt the space to reinstall everything and would love it if i could run all my games from both ops sys without the install space being needed twice. Do i just install from vista to the D drive over whats there already (but backup all my save data) or will will this kill my XP installed game data.

Hi,

I started getting BSOD in August, but I fixed it on Sept 9th by updating my ethernet card. And my computer worked fine until an unexpected shutdown last night which was followed by a bunch of 0x9F problems, then 0x116 when I started up any game. I already did a disk check with /f and /r, and sfc /scannow. I also "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error in Windows 7 or Windows Vista did this in which I changed the TdrDelay to 8. I had the latest graphic driver, but I went back a version of the driver to see if that solved anything, but it didnt. Attached is a couple of my blue screen reports. Any help is appreciated!

Specs:
? Windows 7 Home Premium x64 (original OS installed)
? It came preinstalled but in December I had to replace the HDD cuz it was failing so I installed it through a disk on my current SSD
? Approximate age of system (hardware): 3 years

Hello, I try to play old and new Games on the HP ZBook 15 G2 but each time between 2 - 15 minutes the Game freezes while the sound is still playing for at least 5 minutes until I can play further. It seems like the graphics card is buffering something like on a Video stream until I can continue playing. The Games work perfectly before and after this kind of game freeze. Is this a known issue? What could be the issue? Usually Games should either lag, being slower with less fps, have screen tearing, etc. but somehow buffer a Game for minutes until it works completely fine again is new to me. The same Games work on a much less performant HP 840 G1 Notebook but of course I need to turn down the graphics options depending on the Game. What is also odd it seems in general there are issues with using ALT+TAB to get to Windows while in a Game which works fine on my other PC. Hardware: Intel Core i7-4810MQ CPU, 16GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4600 and NVIDIA Quadro K2100M What I tried:I installed the latest Windows 10 64-Bit Version with all updates, used the HP Support Assistant Tool to install every Update it found. After the issue still there I later tried to install the latest Intel Graphics Driver from the Intel website (20.19.15.4483 from July 2016), the latest Nvidia Driver from the Nvidia website from the stable branch 21.21.13.7563 from October 21st 2016. Tried to disable the internal Intel Graphics Card but e.g. Battlefield 1 is then compla... Could anyone help me with this? I'll experience random, what seems to feel like, lag spikes, which aren't actually lag spikes while playing games. I'd be playing in offline mode against the computer and I'd have smooth gameplay for minutes before hitting this "lag spike" which would last minutes before it goes back to normal gameplay for a few minutes and then back to a lag spike, and this cycle would continue. This is for games that are extremely below my computer specs as well, so far, this has occurred with TF2 and alien swarm. my drivers are all updated, is this perhaps a software problem since problems with playing games only occurred once i went from windows XP to windows Vista months ago.

Does anyone know how to keep the Vista Games Explorer from automatically adding entries for games? I currently have a completely empty VGE and upon launching any of my games via double-clicking their exe, VGE creates a new entry once the game is closed. I already unchecked both "Download information about installed games" and "List most recently played games" in the VGE options window but that didn't help. I have a third party program that lets me add my own custom entries so obviously I'd like to add them manually so I have more control over fine details. I know that the automatically-created entries can be hidden after the fact, but that really clutters up the third party editor since it displays all games in its list, hidden or otherwise. Any thoughts?

I just updated and rebuilt my PC and have reinstalled Win 7 64 bit and am constantly getting a BSOD while using the PC. Specifically while downloading/installing/playing games. I have also had the error occur just while surfing the internet.
From the program Blue Screen Viewer it seems to be caused by ntoskrnl.exe+7f1c0 and/or ntoskrnl.exe+7e769
I can not find any solution to fix this issue, I have updated drivers, I have ran the Microsoft memory checker, , I have changed out my memory, tried 2 other video cards, tried two different wireless network cards, now on wired connection, I even changed motherboards, got the errors on both SSD and HDD. The only things I haven't changed out is the PS and CPU, since I am using the PC to write this I am ruling out the CPU as the issue.

I have used Memtest86 and prime95 to test the memory and CPU, nothing is coming back with errors or issues. I did run driver verifier and got two .dmp files for some specific files but not sure what to do with those now. They are included in the attachement

It seems to be software/driver issue but I can not figure it out.

Any help would be great, thanks!

So I recently (using one of the walkthroughs on this site) was able to manually remove the shortcut arrow, it worked great, but I think I may have screwed something up along the way. I use the Games folder to get to my games quickly, but after messing with removing the shortcut icons, games will no longer run from in the folder. I receive the following error when I try to load a game from the folder: This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel. The only problem, these are shortcuts, there is no program associated with shortcuts, is there? Anyway can anyone tell me how to make the folder work right.

All other shortcuts outside of that folder work fine, and all the shortcuts go to the right place, and if I load the shortcut from the AppData GameExplorer folder it works fine.

A:Games Folder Problem

I had that same error as well after removing the shortcut arrows. The only way I was able to restore working links in the games folder was to restore the arrows.

Yesterday I played Call of Duty 4. This morning I clicked the CoD4 icon and I get. "Windows is searching for iw3mp.exe. To locate the file yourself, click browse." I went through my computer to my games folder to find the whole games folder missing. This is the same issue with all my games that were in that folder not just CoD 4. I am positive I didn't delete it. And the games in that folder are still on the Program and Features list.

Hello, i have some questions about this :

There are 3 games there, but in the start menu i can see only 1 (Gry = games in my lang)... Why ?

Also is there a way to add games that you can see in the start menu : Metin2, some steam games that you can see there to that "game browser" ?

A:Games folder questions

Maybe the installer had some incompatibility with Windows 8 and it never got posted on the start screen as an app? Anyway, go to the folder, right-click on a missing game, and see if you get any "pinning options."

I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate, and I use the latest version of Firefox AND Java, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Java, it still doesn't work.. I've tried Google-ing a bit, and I read somewhere that my firewall might be blocking Java?

I use Windows Firewall, and I have manually added those to Windows Firewall, but Java still doesn't work;

This is what happens when I try to load Java games and stuff like that, and I've also tried to view the Java Console in my Firefox, but it wont work. I click Tools > Java Console > nothing happens.

I hope I've provided enough information for you guys to help me, if I didn't, let me know and I will. Thanks!

EDIT: Oh and my OS is 64-bit.

A:Java doesn't work, can't play games like RuneScape.

Check your firewall settings, security programs and Firefox addons to see if any of them are blocking scripts.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Security tab and set the slider to medium-high. Click the Privacy tab, click the Popup Blocker Settings button and set the Blocking Level to medium.

Do you get a popup window like the one in the screenshot below?

Click the Run button and the game should start.

Hi,
I recently noticed that my ctrl+a doesn't work. All the other ctrl combinations do! Ctrl+a doesnt allow me to "select all" while word processing or use this combination in games (first person shooters).

I have a logitech G15 and other keyboards and they all dont allow me to use ctrl+a. I have tried different versions of keyboard drivers for my G15 and without. I plugged the keyboard into another W7 and it works

Im assuming this is an issue with my OS now.

I know reinstalling windows is a option but want that to be the last resort as i only reformatted last month(i think it only started occurring when i reformatted)

Since i bought this rig a year ago i haven't been able to play any games that runs on the valve engine(half life 2, css, portal etc) more than a few seconds and then the comp reboots.
With Bf2 i can play max 30 minutes and Bf2142 maybe one hour then they crash exactly the same way as Valve games..
All other games i have tried runs without any problem, even the more demanding such as Crysis, Far Cry 2 and Dark Athena.
This is really anoying since the only game i bother about is BF and CSS.

My comp consist of:

cpu: q6600
gfx: 8800 gt 512mb Point of View
mobo: gigabyte ga-n650sli-ds4
ram: 4gb(2x1gb supertalent02 ddr2 pc2-8900u & 2x1gb dimm ddr2 pc26400u)
psu: 570 watt

Cpu temp is at full load 60c and gpu is at full load 70c, i added an extra fan to the gfx and set the fan to 80%. nothing is overclocked.
I tried with diffrent memorys, changed hdds, reinstalled a bunch of times, reinstalled windows xp 32bit, maybe 10 diffrent nvidia drives, also changed settings for the sound card but none of that made any diffrence.
Havent been able to test with other gfx.

Anyone else hade this issue and manage to solve it then please let me know, also greatful for all suggestions.

Currently when I play a game the BSOD happens randomly, I can go a whole day without it, or it can happen frequently. It happens the most when I close or exit a game, then it'll kick to a blue screen.

Before we can even begin to find the underlying cause you need to update the following drivers. Especially asacpi.sys. Yours is from 2005

Code:
ASACPI.sys 3/27/2005 10:30:36 PM
Lycosa.sys 1/18/2008 4:51:42 AM
nvm62x64.sys 10/17/2008 5:01:06 PM
netr28x.sys 2/25/2009 11:02:09 PM
How To Find Drivers:

Quote:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

The Xbox games app shows your profile and scores and that is about it. I figure the reason is the games you bought are not Metro Apps which still uses a Client. Maybe the Client would be updated to Xbox Games instead since the client is not in the metro app thing.

I want to know if having games installed in your computer will it slow down the loading of windows. When I say loading of windows, I don't mean when you see the windows logo and the logging bar under it. I mean right before it goes it goes to the user log in. My user log in is a box style (like when you click my computer, something like that). My other laptop has the same protection files, Norton Corp, Malwarebytes, Super Antispyware, SpyBot, no games really installed.

In the computer I normally use I have 3 games installed in my computer, 2 of which are over 1 GB. Both computers total space is 55 GB. 767 MB Ram, 2 GHz, Win XP SP 3.

A:A dumb question but does having games installed in your computer results in slow down

Unless those games are set to load on startup, they should not have any effect on the amount of time it takes Windows to load.Since you have Spybot installed, you can use that to find out if they are set to load at startup. Just look in the startup section, which is located in the tools section when using advance view, in Spybot to make sure you do not have those games set to run at startup. You can manage all your startup programs from there by just unchecking the box for it there. Make sure you do NOT uncheck anything that is part of Windows. If you do not know for certain what a file is, do NOT uncheck it. If you have any questions about the programs that are listed there, you can post them here and we will help you find out what they are for.

Just built a new gaming pc myself, all new parts, first build so maybe there's something I'm not doing right. But I was following this guide for windows 8.1 installation However I decided not to do any of those tweaks under "System Setup after Installation" I just skipped to installing drivers so it's a pretty normal installation. Try "saves" or "gamesave".. <-- without the quotes.
If not you can look through your user account folder for a games folder or any folder that has the game name or publisher name.

A:backup scheme for OS and games folder

I'd back up F with an imaging application.

Make a new full image periodically--say every week or month. Store the image on some totally different drive, possibly external.

If F fails, restore the most recent image to a replacement F.

Acronis should work for that, although it isn't what I'd personally choose.

I don't know anything about the Symantec app.

This is the one on the start menu, under pictures and music on the right side. Well, when I try to open the folder it tries to run it as an application. Any attempts at relocating this folder have failed also. What can I do to fix this?
