vista wont install some games anymore..

Q: vista wont install some games anymore..

I decided to install the game Grid but the installer will not run because it says that its not compatible with the windows version im running.. But 5 months ago i installed it with no problems. That happened with some other games i installed.. i have the same windows version on my desktop and there i never had any problem instaling just on my laptop.. I have vista home premium 64bit.
I already tried to go to the setup and run it in compability mode but still doesnt work..
What should i do? How come i use to be able to instal and now im not?

A: vista wont install some games anymore..

I have had the ability to play older games. I speculate that after installing SP2 on the x64 you lose the ability to install/play older x86 games. I cant play my MechWarrior 4 anymore and it has me annoyed. I also assume at times...even though sounds stupid..that newer hardware is just too high end for older games that they cant be installed on them. I know its silly but possible. Just keep trying in compatibility mold all the way back to windows 2000/xp settings and try it out more. It might just work if it feels like it.

I had XP pro installed on my computer, and then I got vista but didn't want to wipe xp just yet in case i didn't like vista. So i installed vista on my second hard drive (i have two). Then I needed some more room and decided I was going to take windows out, but since it wasn't upgraded, there was no clear way to uninstall xp, so i booted vista in safe mode and told it to format C: with automatic options (which is the hard drive with XP on it), but it said that it was not allowed to wipe a system partition (for XP), so then i just typed format C: with no options and it said that the drive was in use, but I could dismiss it and all opened handles would become invalid. So i said yes, and it formatted it.

Beforehand, when I started my computer, it allowed me to choose to open vista or XP, but after the format it said that no operating system was found. So i had to reinstall windows on the formatted harddrive and I can access the second drive, and everything is there, however I cannot boot vista.

Is there something I can do to be able to boot vista?

I tried setting the boot options to the 1st hard drive and then the second, but vista still wont boot.

I appreciate any help

A:Vista wont let me boot it anymore!!!

and now, the drive letter for the second hard drive (with vista) has changed from F to C

I got back from christmas break, (hadn't used my computer for about 2 weeks) and my computer was running incredibly slowly on the internet ( i have cox high speed) and when I tried to uninstall and reinstall a few games, they wouldn't uninstall, and i couldn't use them. I think i installed a corrupted rollercoaster tycoon disc, and that messed up my computer.

A:got infected with tdss of somekind and vista wont boot anymore - bsod

Okey, got my vista to boot, things i noticed that had been modified lately etc.

Tho while i did that i didn't had an idea to storage or keep backup of them, looked after now that msonpppr.ddl is somekinda microsoft onenote file but too late to check if it was infected or not, and no idea about that *.tmp file too.

------- but now..

/media/disk/Users/l2pn4p-v/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5/(sub folder)

virus downloaded itself to IE temp and

it modified my sata/raid drivers , think it failed to infect it properly since i'm quite sure they dont make such viruses to annoy users with bsods.

Well now my windows is running and i got backup of that infected iaStor.sys and orig virus *.exe if anyone interested of analyzing it... And i was still wondering if it left some crap on my registry cuz i kinda no idea what it might chanced in there... Would be nice if anyone could check it up and i can make hijack log later and upload it if there is anyone interested.

3. Microsoft will not support me either since I bought an OEM-OS system, unless I pay the $59 for the service.

also im a bit frustrated because NFS underground is not compatible with Vista

is there a way i can change my OS? would that affect my hardware?
can anyone recommend me a good OS that would be compatible to majority of games?

thank you

It seems that when I try to install new games, i'll just sit there and wait for it to run, but it never does. I'm specifically looking a the games Midieval Total War and Battlefield 2, which were running before, but now wont even spin it sounds like. It is also fair to note that I unistalled these games to make more room on my cpu, but when I try to reinstall them ive had no luck. When I try to look for them on the drive in the computer file, the file gives the not responding message and all my icons and toolbar disappear, until I remove the disk from the drive. Can anyone please please help me! I have no idea whats going on.

I suggest a system files check.

Open an elevated command prompt and enter sfc /scannow.

A repair install might help if the SFC doesn't.

I've been trying to install some older games on my computer. I have Vista 64 so I understand that there is obviously going to be issues that I will have to work through. Most I've gotten around but there is two games that seem to have the same issue and I can't find anything on them; Worms Armageddon and Populous: The Beginning.

When I stick in the CD's autorun works. In populous is brings up a menu on which I click "Install" and in Worms Armageddon it brings up a screen with the words at the bottom "Installing Worms Armageddon". There is where it all ends. Neither of them will do anything after that. If I open up my processes there is a setup.exe running but it doesn't do anything. I've let it sit for a long time, I've tried to mess with the compatibility mode of the process (since there's no program to mess with). I've tried running the setup directly from the CD, running it as admin, running it in compatibility mode, and I've gotten the same result every time. Just a setup.exe in the processes on task manager and nothing else. I'm at a loss, any help or ideas would be great, thanks.

So I had a virus. I reinstalled vista, and wiped absolutely everything from my hard drives. I reinstalled all the drivers, but had a bit of a problem with the new version of CCC from ATI (my card is an x1950pro). I had the 'MOM.Implementation" error message, and could not install games during the time I had the error. The game would come up (for example crysis), and load, and I would click 'Install' and then I would get a message about 'setup.exe' has stopped working and windows is trying to fix it. I thought that was because of my graphics card. Apparently not. Once my graphics drivers were working fine, I tried to install it again. Same problem. I'm a big gamer and I really want to figure out how to fix this.

EDIT: I have also tried this with all the other games I own, which all used to work fine until the OS reinstall.

A:I cant install games in vista ultimate x64!!

How did you re-install the OS???? Did you actually reformat the drive? That's what I would do. After you installed a game, did you copy over a save game file? The saved game file could also have problems. Just a thought.

Hi ctolley,
What happens if you put the disk in the drive, restart the computer, then go to Start > My Computer and go to the CD/DVD Drive? Maybe then you can right click on the CD/DVD drive and choose "autoplay". Or double click the drive and run setup.exe or install.exe.

First, click on the Start button and type "solitaire" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Does the Solitaire program launch? If so, then you're missing the shortcuts for the games folder - rather than the games themselves.

What's the make and model of your laptop? What restore disks did it come with, and did you make any restore disks when you first got it? Some laptops come with only an Operating System restore disk and they ask you to make an Applications & Drivers disk when you first start the computer (and some manufacturer's customize the Games menu).

Hey everyone (smile)

I would like some helpful suggestions on this issue because I am working two jobs lately and I really don?t have time to correct an obvious flaw with Windows Vista; especially on a system that I built and donated to our church.

ISSUE: The built in games (written by Microsoft) fail to install over and over again with this error message:

This is a fresh OEM install of Vista with ALL (every) update available from Microsoft; with of course SP2. Running Direct X 11 and a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 display adapter (aka video card) with the Microsoft certified driver.

These (above) are the minimum requirements for Windows Vista 32 bit and other then the fact that the built in games fail to install?? it runs great.

Alright so I've been trying to help my mom fix her computer and I've come to a problem I can't seem to resolve.

Her HDD failed on her a while back (bad sectors) so we replaced that. I also noticed that her processor was fried due to lack of thermal grease so we replaced that too.

Now that we have the new hardware I went to reinstall Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit on her computer. However in the process of installing Vista I get these two errors.

First one is this: Required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing.
Followed by this: No device drivers found.

I did some googling and found that this means that Vista setup isn't detecting her HDD. Any ideas on what to try nexy?

A:Vista Wont Install

Vista uses native CD drivers during install. To my knowledge there is no way to install CD/DVD drivers prior to install.

Wipe entire HDD with killdisk - make bootable ISO and erase HDD.

You can use imgburn to make CD boot -

what is source for Vista re-install - OEM Vista DVD or full retail copy Vista?

Any chance there is a recovery partition on new HDD (don't know origin - if came from system manufacturer)?

Welcome to the forum.

When you are installing the 64 bit Vista, are you doing it as a clean install? You cannot do a upgrade install from the 32 bit Vista to the 64 bit version.

The current situation is I have Xp installed on a raptor150 sata drive. I partition the drive and there is uncollated space I want to install Vista home premium update on. (i'm using the duel install method to get a clean install and want xp around for backup for awhile) during the install it stops and I get this error: "Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed" I've tried several solutions out their. Putting the PartMgr back in the registry and using xp install disk to use a "fixboot" in recovery mode and still a no go. It just wont install Vista on the partition.

One thing to note, I had install Vista installed at one point on the partition but couldn't get the dual boot to work. So i finally gave up and deleted vista and reformatted the partition. So at one point vista would install right. I know is should of just worked on the Dual boot thing but after 2 hours I wanted to give up so now I'm trying again. I'm wondering if from the first time it might have left some files behind that need removed on XP?

The only fix I can think of now is to reformat the whole drive install Vista then after the Vista install, partition the drive and use a backup of XP on the new partition and then find a way two dual boot after I use the backup to restore Xp on the new partition? Any other ideas?

Hi guys and gals,

ive really done it this time and i have NO idea what else to do. i tried installing linux and during the install my computer froze..something must have gone wrong, i then had a dualboot menu which then caused my XP to go to hell. Saying it had to recover registry data from previous logs. then my computer pretty much kept crashing...

I made amends with this and decided to just reformat and re-install XP like i had done many times in the past. Well XP wouldn't install. After i created a partition on the drive, it tried loading the files from the disk and got to about 15% before it started giving me errors saying it could load the particular .dlls I skipped all the ones it couldn't load and just tried to trudge on for no avail. (obviously xp needed the files to run the install). so now im unable to install XP GREAT!

well On my university i was able to get vista ultimate with the upgrade to 7. woo , except the vista ultimate will not install either.. it takes forever to get the loading bar across the bottom of the screen, then it will take another step and load the vista loading bars like its getting ready to send me the next page where i can choose language etc but it never gets that far, it USED to just comes up as a black screen with a white mouse cursor. after i leave it there for some time it gives me an error saying some hardware / software change is causing a problem.

Everything goes fine, UNTILL right at the last part i get a BSOD, and the computer restarts upon it's restart the system starts to load like it should but as windows load a message saying "An unexpected error has occured and cuased windows to restart, please restart your system and restart the installation", Proplem is every time i try to install it - IT WILL NOT WORK.

It just repeats with the BSOD, i have rebuilt the system 3 times, and nothing.... i have no clue what is causing this.. the Hard Drive is good, Memory test checks out good, i tried to start in Safe mode, but i get an error that says "Windows can not finish installing in safe mode, please restart windows normally".

A:Please Help! Vista Wont Install!!!!

Hi Segiris

There was a Bios issue for your Asus model motherboard for installing Windows XP --- it's possible the same issue might effect your installation of Windows Vista ---

A Bios update fixed the earlier trouble with XP. The latest Bios available at this point is version 1006.002 (it's a Beta release), and might help. You can download that version, or the latest non-beta release (1005) from the download page for your board over on the Asus support site ---

Are you sure that Vista is supported for your board? I don't see any Vista drivers on their download pages for your model (the most recent non-Bios drivers seem to end at about 2004/2005 -- and are for Windows XP)

If the system was intended to be a dual-boot, and you can still boot into XP, try downloading and installing the Vista Upgrade Advisor --- it will let you know if you have system components that might need changing in order to upgrade to Vista ---

It's possible that your chipset supports Vista, even if the drivers aren't present on the Asus website. You could check to see if SiS reference drivers are available for download at for your chipset. You may have to repeat this step for most all of your hardware/motherboard devices, as Asus doesn't provide any Vista versions at all. You'll have to check at the manufacturer's webs... Read more

A:bf2 wont install on vista

Sometimes I find that the the autorun program does not work on Vista. Instead, try exploring the CD/DVD
and look for Setup.exe or equivalent and run that. If that does not work, open the properties of the setup program, go to the Compatibility tab and set it to run for Windows XP SP2, click OK and double click to start setup.

It gets as far as installing then at the first reboot where it says press any key to boot from cd i wait for it to skip that and continue installation but it just hangs there.

I have a 500gb harddrive but it has a 50gb partition on it i made with some software. Could that be the problem? I read somewhere it could be. Or is this problem commonly related to something else? Thanks.

Is the Hard Disk already have some Operating system installed on it?

Have you get in BIOS after pressing DEL, ESC key or other FN keys.

Try to change first the boot priority there and then enter the CD in.

So the problem is that i cant install vista. I have tried Home Premium and Ultimate but neither of those work. I have an original Home Premium disk and when i start to update from xp to vista it goes just fine but when the computer needs to restart to finish the installation i just end up stuck forever in the boot screen. I tried to format and install but i get stuck at boot screen again. When i try booting in safe mode it stoppes at system32/drivers/disk.sys

So what can i do? The one who solves this gets a big cookie.

Reasons that I'm still with XP media center edition that did work well playing mid 2000's games v.good & the PC has access for 4Gb memory 4- sata hdd which is a bonus too. This PC of mine crashed, I used system recovery which now I can play games like battlefield 1942, panzer elite, but can't play the more advanced battlefield 2142 anymore ? It took myself a long time to find out how to make this game run & play single / online too., but I wonder if I should use one of my two Vista Home Basic PC's HP or Acer ? The HP being the weaker & the Acer having more memory & bit bigger processor speed too.  Not sure which Windows XP 05' or Vista 07' PC would be best over-all to run gameplay pc games from 2005 to 2011. Seems as I once heard that Vista might give myself more problem error issues or crashes than using XP  for installng & playing gameplay software

A:Changing XP to Vista for better install & play PC Gameplay games

Just try it. Games produced close to and since Vista was released will have been designed with the Vista environment in mind and will work fine. Most games older than the Vista release will work too, although you may have to run some in compatibility mode.

I have a dell inspiron 1525 laptop that refuses to get past the "Microsoft Corporation" scrolling bar on boot up. I have run various diagnostics and hardware seems fine. I am guessing its some sort of operating system problem. The laptop is about 4-5 years old and I have had no problems until recently. I previous used McAfee and recently changes to the AVG free antivirus product, which I have run on xp machines previously. if I boot the laptop in safe mode the boot stops when loading
\windows\system32\DRIVERS\AVGIDSEH.sys which I am guessing has something to do with AVG?!
I dont have a boot or repair disk so was looking for any advice/suggestions on how to proceed?

I have recently decided to go for a freash install from XP to Vista.
I went fairly well as in I managed to get all the appropiate drivers and had it all working.

The only issue that I have come across is that I cannot install some specific programs. These are programs such as office 2007, office 2003, office xp and any .msi files or windows cabinet extractors.

I had read that this may be due to the user account control being on so I turned this off but there is still no difference.

As a guess I think it may be something to do with windows installer 4.0 but I am not sure. After looking through forums for hours for a solution I have decided to post my own thread. This problem is starting to be very frustrating as it is the only issue. If anyone could help in any way it would be greatly appreciated.

I have windows vista. SP1.

For quite a long time now, when I turn on my pc, it says preparing to install updates 1 of 3. like before I log in. but it stays on 0% then shows password screen. every time i turn it on. i have just ignored up till now.

but now it wont let me install any more updates. in windows update itself, it just hangs on 'preparing to install' 0%. I.e. it downloads the updates but wont install them. No matter what ones I choose to install, even just 1 small one. And then clicking stop installation does nothing, the button then deactivates but it doesnt stop. if i close the window them open it again, button to stop installation enables again, but again does nothing.

please help. thanks.

A:windows update wont install (vista)

Hi. . .

Welcome to TSF - Vista Support.

How long is the hang when it says "preparing to install..."? How long ago did this start?

I assume that you can log in to Vista normally after that (i.e, you haven't been running in SAFEMODE this entire time)?

What anti-virus and firewall(s) are you running?

Please look over MS kb948343. I know it is to prepare for or diagnose problems installing SP1, but there may be information in there that is useful.

Are you sure you are running SP1?
START | Run | type cmd - hit enter | then type VER & hit enter.

What is the version # that shows? Thanks.

Regards. . .

I'm trying to install vista 64 on my computer having just bought the motherboard, ram and processor from my signature. Previously I was running Vista 32 (and I am still, thanks to this problem).

When I try to install vista 64 only the 250GB hard drive is visible. I proceed to install the drivers from the motherboard installation disk but the x64 drivers are not detected (there is a folder on the disk labelled x64 raid drivers). The x86 raid driver in the x86 driver folder is detected so I use that instead. Vista now recognises my array. Great!

Installation seems to go well but after the first reboot, the windows loading screen appears for a few seconds, then a BSOD flashes for half a second and the system reboots. Repeat ad-infinitum!

I have tried removing one of the RAM sticks as I have heard there can be problems with Vista64 and 4gig of RAM but with no improvement.

32 bit installs perfectly on the array.

I'm at a loss. Can anyone suggest a solution or tell me where I can find RAID drivers for 64bit vista. The AMD website doesn't help. What drivers I can find are part of a .exe install and are only useful after the operating system is working.

Ok got the strangest problem. Have several USB flash drives, not one of them will detect on Windows Vista x64 Ultimate. I have another PC with the exact same version of Vista on it and that computer has no problems but this one does. I have a USB mouse connected and I have tried on different USB ports with no success.

What happens is, i plug in the USB flash drive and a "found new hardware" box pops up asking me to locate the driver etc. I dont understand this as all USB flash drives operate on a generic USB driver provided by windows. So where has the process gone wrong?

Device manager shows the device with a yellow mark next to it. When i remove it and tell it to scan for hardware changes it just reinstalls with the yellow icon next to it. Properties says:

"This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver."

Which doesnt work.

When i go to Computer Management > Disk Management i see the device "Disk 1 - 3.77Gb Unallocated". Right click options of change drive letter give the following error:

"The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console view is not up-to-date. Refresh the view by using the refresh task. If the problem persists close the Disk Management Console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer"

None of which works! Re... Read more

1. Welcome to Tech Support Guy

2. I find your post a little confusing. Perhaps English is not your first language, and if not you have done well, but I am confused
A. Where please does Vista come into this - I thought from reading the post you had XP and wanted to upgrade the OS to 7 - possibly due to the forthcoming end of support for XP in April 2014

Well im going from windows xp to windows 7 32 bit or 64 bit dont care anymore just want newer operating system Click to expand...

It appears you have a choice of 7 or Vista
ARE these OS installations discs the GENUINE discs or are they copies from somewhere
Please do not be annoyed by that question, but to install on this computer the licence for the OS must of course be available for use

iv tried installing on diffrent pc iv takin this hard drive on this co[puter and put it in my other computer and i get passed loading screen then can move around click things then freezes again then the mointer turns off now all Click to expand...

DO YOU MEAN you have tried to install the system on another computer using the hard drive from the XP computer
OR DO YOU MEAN you have tried the previously installed Windows 7 or VISTA from the XP computer with the hard drive in another computer
IF it is the latter - it is very unlikely to work as the installation has NONE of the drivers for the motherboard or the graphics etc - on the computer you are trying it on.

Are you serious? I am getting this message:

If you'd like to install and use google desktop on 64-bit Windows in an unsupported capacity, you can do so by using the /force flag when using the command line to install Google Desktop. Command line argument:

googledesktopsetup.exe /force

I am a newbie...i dont understand how to do this. Can someone give me a step by step instructions how to use command line to install google desktop? i've never done that and dont know where to start

A:[SOLVED] Google Desktop with Vista 64 bit WONT INSTALL

Hi hubie. . .

Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista Support.

I don't know why this is required by Google or why they can't take care of this on their own, but using the /force parm allows it to run in x86 (32-bit) compatibility mode. I have done the same to an x64 Vista SP1 system here and so far all is OK.

Do this -

Download and SAVE Google Desktop installer (googledesktopsetup.exe) to your desktop.

START | type cmd.exe into the start search box | right-click on cmd.exe above under programs and select Run as Administrator | the cmd prompt ("DOS") screen appears - type the following as it appears - and hit enter after each line -

cd %userprofile%\desktop

googledesktopsetup /force

You will probably be notified by Windows Defender about two entries - select permit for each and apply actions.

You should now have Google Desktop on your system.

Any ? - please let me know - and please post back with outcome. Thanks.

Regards. . .

I've been trying to install Windows Vista Ultima for a while now. I'm trying to install to my D: which is a Seagate 320gb sata drive, which I've installed the drivers off the CD. I've tried several LEGIT copies and nothing works. Here's what happens when I try to install:

When I install by booting off the CD it just gets stuck at a blank screen with a backround on it, the only way I can get further is by disabling my USB 1.0. Once I do that it starts installing and gets stuck at Expanding Files.

When I install through windows it gets stuck at 8%. I've tried safe mode also, and get the same thing.

I've tried loading my hard drive drivers through the Vista installer by using the disk my Seagate 320GB drive came with (which is a sata drive) and it doesn't find any. and of course it's impossible to find Seagate drivers online for this hard drive i've tried for over 5 hours.

I've also done the Windows Vista memory test and it didn't find any errors.

I'm attaching a copy of my systems specs. Hopfully someone can help me.

please help me so I dont release my anger with a hammer on this computer..

PLEASE READ THROUGHLY AND I THINK ONE OF YOU CAN SAVE THIS COMPUTER!! I will describe what happened in great detail...

So a while ago, out of the blue, my computer decides to freeze for a sec and it recovered with a error message saying 'nvlddmkm has stopping working but successfully recovered' (Now pros should be aware that this is a common error that still doesn't have a solution to) At first I shrugged it off but gradually the freeze got worse to a point where the blue screen with memory dumping showed up and I had to reboot..

Now recently I could not start the vista windows regularly (restore+repair doesn't work) The screen has like lines going through and won't show the windows.

So I started safe mode and after deleting many many things I decided to erase the Nvidia driver itself. And behold, for some reason the windows restarts and it works. But of course I can't play any games and the screen has LOTS of lines going through constantly...

I have been using the computer without the nvidia driver with my screen looking crappy for few days now... (I still don't know what the problem is exactly..)

And there's another problem I encountered... the windows update will not manually and automatically install two updates which are: KB953709 (reg update) KB940157 (windows search 4.0) with code error 80073712, 80070032 respectively.

Trying to fix packard bell easynote laptop with vista home premium, it wouldnt boot so i tried the vista repair (is it just me or does this never work), when this didnt work i used the packard bell factory reset option and selected the partial recovery so as to keep users data.

It got to the point where it had to reboot but then said it was unable to continue installing vista. I thought no problem i'll do the full recovery instead.

But, now i cant seem to boot into the recovery option anymore.

Compaq Presario v6000, vista Home Premium

looking at my update history, updates were always successful until 11/15/2007, when a kb941600 update failed (800F0826). from there, occasionally an update will work, but most wont. there are hundreds and hundreds of failed ones listed. currently we have 59 important and 1 optional update that havent installed. one time i tried downloading them and it failed, then the next time id downloaded, installed, rebooted, then said they didnt configure correctly and reverted. I see no obvious trend in which ones work and which dont, and listing them could take forever. i could post screenshots of the list if that would help.
I can see that windows defender updates work
security updates for vista, or net framework, dont tend to, rarely they will...

i went through a bunch of the most recent errors, here they are, each came up on multiple updates

800F081F - service pack 2 gives this

i tried "microsoft fix it", not the "aggressive" one though
i tried the thing on the microsoft site. other than that i have tried turning off my firewall.
we had a google redirect virus not long ago that we ran about a gazillion fixes and antivirus things for, so im thinking its not a virus problem... although i cant rule out that one changed something in 2007.

any ideas? =/
thanks in advance

If I go to vista gallery to download new ones they download ok I click open then run, the sidebar comes to the front and blinks but nothing installs There is nothing in the sidebar and nothing in the gallery and nothing new in the gadgets folder in either C:\program files etc or C:\users etc. I have tried lots of different gadgets from the vista gallery and none of them install.
I tried.
Downloading and installing from ie8b2
saving the downloads to my docs and installing from there right clicking and unblocking the gadget
changing language settings from english uk to english us
dragging and dropping
uninstalling ie8b2 doing the same from ie7
Coming off line stopping all running programms and installing.
doing the same from firefox 3
I have done a system restore, for luck not knowing how long I have had the problem. and I have tried from safemode but the bar didnt work in safemode
I search this site and followed this tutorial

I am currently using comodo firewall and avast AV, but have tried lots of different security programs over the months . thinking that perhaps they have done something.

After I ran registry mechanic and defragged my hard drive (perfect disk - thrice, although I stopped the defrag half way through), none of the latest games work anymore (Call of duty 4, Crysis demo, Bioshock), although older games like Heroes of might and magic 3 still runs fine. Whenever I click to start a game, the splash screen will start, the screen will go black like when one normally starts a game, and then I'm just back at the desktop, with no error message. All other software works fine, like Ableton Live 5 etc.

I should also say that before all of this I decided to clean up my hard drive and deleted some files mainly in C:\documents and settings\bernhard\local settings\temp. I did not delete any read-only files. Maybe this screwed it up?

It's strange because everything works fine except these games all of a sudden.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hey guys I have AT&T "High-Speed" Internet DSL. I used to be able to host games and such when I was directly connected to the modem and nobody would lagg, and I would never lagg in games. Anyways, now I bought a linksys wrt54gl because I needed internet for myself and other people here at home. Well I tried the best I could, and I can join games (I play Borderlands and CS:Source and Team Fortress 2) but I can't host. When I host, my friends can't join, they used to be able to join me with no lagg... now they can't even join me.

I've tried port forwarding, disabling DMZ, removing the router firewall, tons of stuff. I can't get it to work, and I need to be able to host games again because I have the fastest internet.

Please help me out, I'm a newcomer and not too Tech Savvy but I'm not stupid either.

Thanks guys at Tech Support Guy Forums,

A:Can't host games anymore, help?!!

just for troubleshooting, put your computer in the DMZ (must have manual IP address). What the DMZ will do is route any traffic to that computer without any issues/port blocks etc.

I think I am in the right place but if this thread should be in another spot let me know.

I bought a computer a while ago and because it has a GeForce 7800 GS video card it sadly has the infinite loop problem. I managed to fix the Blue Screen of Death errors this problem causes when I downloaded the latest drivers for my card. I haven't had the crash problem since, but still have video rendering problems when I play some games like Battlefield 2 for instance what happens is the environment goes all screwy, I see a checkerboard type map on the ground or the image of the gun I am holding has odd triangle shapes coming off it or when I get into a vehicle the view is all triangles and flashing object or the other characters in the game look all sparkly and seem to be made up of odd triangle shapes. The only way to fix this is to reboot the system closing the game and starting it again doesn't work. Anywho the main reason I am here is because since I updated the video drivers ( I don't know what they were before or if this is the real reason for the problem) or because of something else other than the driver update, I can't say for sure as I didn't notice the problem right away because I didn't start the affected games for quite some time after the fact. I can still play COD4 but COD5, COD6, and Black Ops all fail to work and close down before they start COD6 actually stutters at the menu screen and I have to shut the system down by pulling the plug.... A:I can't play my games anymore!?

The only thing I noticed with Vista and games is sometimes a game will load and you get to a black menu screen for the game. I play Silent Hunter 4 and the first time I loaded the game in Vista I had not issues at all. Me being me messed up how to handle admin account and user account so I did a clean install to start over. Once done I loaded Silent Hunter 4 again to play. No issues, loaded fine. I clicked to play and I got the load screen. Once I got to the menu of the game it was nothing but a black screen. I could hear the music and see my mouse cursor but nothing else. So, what I had to do was go to my videocard tweak program ( I just use the one offered by Nvidia, it works fine) and reset my video card to all the default values. Should be just a box to check and apply to reset to defaults. Once done, I ran the game and all was fine. I closed the game out and reset my videocard back up to the tweaks I like. My game ran fine every since. Give it a shot, it worked for me.

But I put in a movie and it's like there's no disc here. We've watched movies on it for over a year, so I checked multiple movies that once worked. I've followed the troubleshooting, tried to update driver. The wizard could find no better driver than what is already being used. I DO NOT get an error message.
