Why doesn't my dir-300 router's parental control work?

Q: Why doesn't my dir-300 router's parental control work?

I clicked on "Turn parental control on and deny computers access to ONLY these sites", entered the website url in the box, ticked it and set the schedule to always. But when I try to access the blocked web page it takes a little longer than usual but then loads on the website normally.

The two sites entered in the boxes are the ones I've tried to test the feature with, but both are not being blocked.

Can someone see anything I've done wrong?

I have tried emptying the cache and rebooting the computer and router, but still the pages just refuse to be blocked.

What's happening??? Advice would be appreciated.

hum; did you try just the domain name without the http:// ?

I have done 10 tons of google searches. I have looked at all kinds of things I need super parental controls. I don't care about cost at this point.

Has to support time limits per connected MAC.
Has to support individual site blocking.
Has to support device logging.
Has to support bandwidth throttling per device.

I have kids with android devices I need to block them from going to the play store without authorization, I also need these specific devices to only be allowed network connectivity during specific times.
I have an Xbox one I need to have time limited to just after school and until bedtime.
I have WDTVLive devices that need to have highest priority of video streaming and on and available 24/7.
I have smart TVs that I need to stay on 24/7 but I need to be able to block specific sites that the TVs can access
I have to have the ability on all the web devices to see and block any inappropriate sites.

I have been looking at the routers and so far all I am seeing is opendns that does not seem to have the granularity I need. Or they have their own limited parental controls that are a basic "slider" but you can't add. Almost all do not have individual device blocking or individual device logging which would not work.

I really do not want to have to setup a ton of different things on my network and I can't use a third party DNS service because I KNOW my son knows enough about computers to just change the devices settings back to a different DNS ser... Read more

I have a small network set up at home. So everyone can do what they gotta do with out bothering someone else to get off so I can get on. But the problem is that my daughter doesn't seem to get the hint and bedtime is bedtime. I have sucessfully config the router to block internet access after her bedtime on her port. I have attempt to block aim the same way but have not been as luck. I have the router block ports 20 21 80 5190 at 930 and everything shutdown fine except AIM. AIM is what I really NEED to block any help or suggestion? Thanks!

A:netgear router as parental control

Hi,

Unless the router is in her bedroom, then simply unplug her connection at bedtime at the router.

A parental control program such as Cybersitter would allow you to set the hours that she can connect to the internet.

Failing this, hard wire the computer mains lead through a timer.

Before I went to a Broadband ADSL router, and had the network set up via a hub and ICS. I could simply stop the ICS program on my computer which took her off line.

Knowing I have "power" over her Internet access, which is totally unrestricted provided the router is switched on, except for Cybersitter, Norton AV, Zone Alarm & Spyware prevention stops any misbehaviour in this area.

She will soon get the message. Access is a priviledge not a right.

Hi all. I'm trying to set parental control for one of the kids in household, I do it like here http://www.tp-link.com/en/article/?id=350

this are my time tables:

2 gaming2 Every Day 06:00 - 22:43 (meaning from 6am to 10:43pm he can acces ONLY those two sites, correct?)

allowed sites:
www.google.com
www.youtube.com

but, when I turn parental control on, all internet is off for him even allowed sites. Time right now is 21:44 gmt+2 and my router time is set right, so I don't know why it doest work?

or should I add allowed sites with http://?

I can't use my Control with any other key to copy, cut, paste, or
bring up task manager.

Help please and thanks, Mary

Here is my hijackthis text file.

A:Control/C Control/V control/alter/delete doesn't work

Mary, keyboard problems are not invariably software or malware-related. First things first - what OS are you talking about ? XP, Win 7, Win 8 or what? What type of keyboard is it? PS2, USB or wireless?

Disconnect it and reconnect it a few times, reboot and try again. Turn the keyboard upside down, placing one end on the edge of a thick book, and thump a few times on the back with your hand. Sweep the crud onto the carpet.....

Is it just a keyboard hardware problem, and if so which keys? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/keyboard-shortcuts#keyboard-shortcuts=windows-7 tells you a lot of key combinations with ctrl and shift and alt. Tell us if any or none work?

Open a document and try typing a bit of text. Do all the characters work?

If it appears the keyboard is faulty, can you borrow another to test?

Quite often, keyboard problems are down to wireless problems: and can often be solved by re-installing the keyboard driver.

Not sure if ths belongs here or in the security thread??

I could swear I've seen similar problems on this forum, but I did a search and didn't come up with anything.

3Ghz Pentium 4 512 MB of RAM running XP Pro. Last night a user on this PC installed MS updates, by logging off via the "install updates and shut down" option. When she came in this morning, the PC didn't respond to control + alt + delete. She asked me for help in logging on. I clicked on the help link in the control alt delet prompt, and the password prompt came up!?

The MS update button(at the bottom right corner of the screen - not sure what this is called) on her login still had the exclamation point on it, so I clicked on it to install the updates again. It installed and prompted for a restart. So I clicked on the restart now option. Nothing happened. I went to Start->shutdown, and nothing happened. I hit control alt delete, and nothing happened.

Ran spyware checks via spybot and ad-aware and they only turned up cookies. I am in the process of running a virus check right now.

My userid on the same computer has no problems. When I hit control alt delete, I get the standard prompt.

I'm running Microsoft professional, Internet Explorer and have a Google toolbar.

All attempts to add software are blocked and the add remove feature in the control panel won't open. For example, I can't update my old version of Itunes because the popup for the update gets blocked. I know about the popup blocker in the Google toolbar, and how to handle that, that isn't the problem. In Internet Options, the security setting is at medium and under the advanced tab I reset all options to default.

A:Add Remove In Control Panel Doesn't Work

What version of IE are you using?

What other security programs do you have on the computer? It's possible that one of them is blocking the pop-ups.

I'm running Windows XP SP2 and I have all my sound drivers installed (I can get sound just fine in every app), but I can't control the main volume in the Volume Control. I can adjust the volume with the Wave slider, but the main one doesn't do anything, including mute. Individual applications' volume controls work fine too, just not the main Windows one. It wouldn't be a problem, but it might be the reason why I'm not getting any volume on the Stereo Mix recording option. I just finished a clean install of XP (for a different reason) and it wasn't working before, either. Any ideas?

A:Tecra P5 - Volume control doesn’t work properly

As far as I know volume control in the past was mechanical but now it works on different way and it is controlled by specific tool/utility.
To be honest Tecra P5 is not known to me but obviously it is Australian notebook model and according to Australian support page this notebook model is not supported for Windows 7.

That doesn?t mean you cannot use it but this means there is not software package designed for Windows 7 that can be installed so I think there is no much you can do about it.

I know it is annoying but for volume control you can use Windows option placed in task bar.

Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 7 on my notebook PC. I had to use a Microsoft installation disk because unfortunately, serious errors resulted after I installed from the HP recovery program. Consequently the HP drivers that were installed automatically with the recovery program weren't installed on my system. I had to install several of them from the HP support site. I got everything to work except for the Touch volume control, or the Volume Scroll Zone as referred to by HP in the service guide. This is the device located just above the keyboard that increases or decreases speaker volume when you drag you finger on it. I installed the Quick Launch button driver but that only applied to the mouse and pointer touchpad. I looked at the devices listed in my startup configuration. I saw the synaptics pointing device and the HP quick launch buttons listed. So is the IDT PC audio driver.  What am I missing? Where I can I find it to activate the touch volume control?

Hi,
I recently noticed that my ctrl+a doesn't work. All the other ctrl combinations do! Ctrl+a doesnt allow me to "select all" while word processing or use this combination in games (first person shooters).

I have a logitech G15 and other keyboards and they all dont allow me to use ctrl+a. I have tried different versions of keyboard drivers for my G15 and without. I plugged the keyboard into another W7 and it works

Im assuming this is an issue with my OS now.

I know reinstalling windows is a option but want that to be the last resort as i only reformatted last month(i think it only started occurring when i reformatted)

EDIT: I have fixed my issue - it turns out my user account was corrupted, so I had to make a new one and copy all my documents folder over!

I am hoping someone on this forum can help me. I have a Thinkpad X60s, about a year old and I am running XP. Randomly my computer becomes sluggish so I try closing programs. I then figure out that one program is frozen (come to think of it, that program may always be IE) and I can't close it. I then try to warm boot with ALT CONTROL DELETE but it doesn't work. In fact, instead of getting the task manager, my screen saver comes up without any icons on my desktop. I have no cursor and can't do anything but unplug or take out battery and manually crash the computer. It then will start normally though it takes longer for the icons to appear.

I regularly download both IBM and Windows updates, I defrag regularly, do virus scans etc using Norton 360. I also have run Think Pad Productivity Center maintenance tasks.

Other than that and the slugglishness the computer runs ok.

Any help out there? I am frustrated and IBM has not been able to help, except by telling me to change the hard drive or send it to them.

A:Freeze, alt control delete doesn't work, lose all icons

Yes I think this is a hard drive issue too. Check to see how much space you have left on it. Go to My computer and right-click on the C drive icon. Click Properties... Also, you might consider checking the hard drive with a utility like Seatools from Seagate. IBM notebook drives are noted for their high failure rates...

Back up your important data please, ASAP

Good luck

Hello, I have a problem with connecting my SE K700i cell phone with Windows 7 notebook via bluetooth. I have paired them, file transfer is available, the problem is remote control (HID profile) - when trying to connect either desktop, presenter, kmplayer or any other, it always shows "Bluetooth connection failed. Hi, I had some issues with a HDD around this time last year, so I replaced it with a new western digital HDD. I wasn't able to back anything up, so I cloned it instead.

turns out I installed the incorrect driver for my video card and suffered from the BSOD syndrome....

well, I finally got that sorted out, ( I think ) and now I am trying relentlessly to get catalyst pro control center to work properly. Ive read numerous places online that involves editing the Assembly folder, but I have no such keys in there.

when I try and run CCC, it tells me that I am unable to run as I wouldn't be able to change any settings within the app basically. Ive tried uninstalling, installing. trying ATI opposed to AMD- to no anvil.

I know for a fact that I had CCC on this pc, but it almost seems impossible to get up and running, I am very desperate to get this up and running.

thanx in advance

If I try to use the Ctrl-Click action on web pages that allow you to select multiple items in a list box, a new ie session opens (to my home page) instead of allowing me to make multiple selections. This happens with ALL web pages that have multiple select boxes. It only happens on my desktop (XP with i.e 7), and not on other computers in my house with ie7.
- I tried disabling ALL active X controls and add-ins. Still didn't work.
Any ideas please? (It's maddening!!)

A:Control-Click doesn't work with multiple select lists-it opens a new ie page instead

One thing you may want to check is the control panel/accessibility options and make sure nothing is checked in there. Sometimes the accessibility settings for the keyboard will play havoc with what you think should be happening with keys.

Some time ago I was discussing ways and means of stopping my kids changing their IP addresses to get around ACLs I'd created on my DLINK router.

Two solutions were offered: OpenDNS, which I'm still using, and setting up a DHCP reservation using MAC addresses.

Recently I had to replace one of the machines. Lets say the original machines mac address was 0A:0A:0A:0A:0A:0A (just for convenience), and it's IP address was 192.168.1.4.

When I replaced the machine the MAC address is completely different.

I completely forgot to update the DHCP reservation. Yet, the PC can access the internet.

If I change the address on the machine, of course, it still connects to the internet, I guess because the MAC address is not in the DHCP reservation list. So I updated the entry in the router.

The computer still accesses the internet with 192.168.1.4 (as I would expect), but if I change the address to 192.168.1.99 (for example), it still works.

So.. Without the mac address in the router (but with a reservation using the IP address), there appear to be no restrictions. I hoped the router would match the MAC address to the requesting IP address and go "Nope, these dont match. Sorry, I'm not letting you connect".

Obviously I've done something wrong when I set it up.

Can anyone suggest why this might not be working?

thanks
Tanya

A:Reserved list in router doesn't seem to work

There are 2 things in here: First, if you created your ACLs based on MAC Address, there is still a way to bypass it: by changing local MAC Address -- many NICs do allows that.

Second, if you created ACLs based on the IP address, you should also update the DHCP to offer the old IP address to the new MAC Address.

What I could suggest you, then, is to create a rule in the very bottom, to deny any unknown MAC Address, and then update the rules to allow your kids to browse -- either via their computer's MAC Address or via IP with the updated DHCP reservation. Pretty much you had done all of this, but missed the "deny all" in the bottom.

One morning I woke up and my wireless network wasn't there.
So I went to my router and the lights were all on, so I power cycled it.
The power light came on and went off and the Wan and 4 LAN lights stayed on.

So I have a Netgear WGR614 router and when I hook it up the computer says it's connected but I can't load any web pages. If I take the router out and go straight from the modem to the computer it does work.
It has worked in the past but I've never had a perfect connection..
Would I need a new and better router or is there a different problem here?

A:Internet doesn't work when router is connected

Let's see this when you are connected directly to the modem.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hello. I just got a new cable modem and my WRT54GL router does not connect to the internet. The router was working fine with the old modem before the modem went out. When I plug an Ethernet cable into the modem I can connect to the internet just fine. But when I connect the modem to the router I cannot connect to the internet through the router. I tried reseting the router. Unplugging both the router and modem at the same time then restarting the computer. Nothing works. I could use some help.

I just bought a D-Link DIR-600 Wireless Router and have already installed it to a normal modem. I'm using an XP Desktop.

It stated there that the router has been configured successfully. However, when I try to connect it to the Internet, I received Error 678: The remote computer did not respond.

But, it works fine if I plugged off the router and connected the Internet directly to the modem (that's why I can use the internet now).

Can anyone help me find out what is wrong with my router? I've been trying to do some troubleshoots for 4 hours on my own but it still didn't work. I really need your help since I'm really new to this networking stuffs.

Thanks a lot.

We have Comcast cable for our ISP. We have a Linksys BEFSR41 wired router. We have two pcs. One has Windows 98 1st edition, and the second has Windows XP. Both PCs have ethernet cards, and both individually work directly with the cable modem although the Windows 98 PC only gets 790 down. (Note: Several years ago, the Windows 98 PC did get 3000 down, and then Comcast did something when they raised the download speeds.)

We weren't able to get the router to work. Then, a Comcast guy came over here for a tv problem, and he set up the router, modem and pc in the usual order and both pcs were connected to the internet. This lasted for one hour and then simply stopped working. We haven't been able to get it to work since. When we plug the modem into the router, the WAN lights in the front of the modem do not come on. We tried switching the cables, and it still doesn't work. The same cable works fine from the pc to the modem. We cannot figure this out.

Note: In the back of the router, we have the cable connected from the modem to the WAN port and not to the Uplink port.

How do we fix this?
What if we buy an N-wireless router and use it as a wired router? Will that work? The latest issue of Maximum PC is recommending the D-link DIR 615 as the best bargain wireless N router.

Thanks in advance,
Vettechick

About two weeks ago the internet in the apartment started acting very poor. A day or so after that, it quit alltogether, with Windows saying it is a DNS server issue. I have reason to believe the IT guy for the apartment has NO idea what he's talking about, as he has told the landlord that it is probably too many wireless routers causing interference. This is not the case.

The symptoms are that, when connected to our wireless router windows says there is a DNS issue, and we do not have internet access. While plugged directly in to the wall the internet works perfectly fine.
My speculation is that whatever we are getting our internet from in the line is not allowing our router to assign IP addresses (or not handling them properly on its end), thus causing the DNS issue and the lack of internet.

Supposedly there are only about 4 apartments (out of 16) that are affected by this same problem, and I am the only person actively trying to fix this, as it is affecting my school work. I have limited access to the hardware of the building, but can get just about whatever I need for testing purposes through the landlord if I try hard enough.

If anyone has any ideas what this issue may be or how it may be resolved, please let me know. My schooling is kind of relying on it.

I really do hope that someone will be able to assist me with this very frustrating issue I am having with my desktop. For about the past month or so I have not been able to connect to any internet web sites. I typically use Firefox for web browsing but that stopped working and also IE 7 and Safari stopped working as well. I have tried to do almost everything I can think of to get it to work again.
I've already tried to:
1. Disable windows firewall / windows defender
2. Disable add-ons in IE
3. Uninstall anti-virus software
4. Reset the TCP/IP connection through command prompt using Netsh commands
5. Rewired/Reset the modem and Router
6. Logged into the Router and tested the connection via Ethernet cable from Laptop running XP
7. Reset system services and clients - DHCP, DNS, HTTP
8. Ran several cleanup/scan utilities - McAfee Anti-Virus, Malwarebytes (Anti-Malware), MS Malicious Software Removal Tool, HijackThis

I have just installed the latest version of HijackThis on the machine and have run a scan. This is the following log:

I'm not sure if this is something new that started with my new Windows 8 computer, or if it has always been this way, but I noticed that when my desktop, which is connected to my router via a cable, is shutdown, the router stops functioning, and I can't access the web with my notebook. Is there a setting somewhere that would keep the router working without disconnecting the LAN cable from the desktop. My desktop is normally up and running from the time I get up, until I go to bed, which is why I never noticed this before.

I recently switched over to Comcast for internet and have an xfinity router. The wifi works perfectly on all computers and devices except one. It's not working on a large desktop that uses a TP-Link wireless card. When I try to connect to the internet from Firefox on this computer, it just says "Connecting..." on the top of the tab for a while and eventually goes to a "Server not found" page.

Every now and then, usually after I try something random to fix it (such as turning on "SoftAP mode" on the TP-Link card) the internet will work for a few seconds, but then it stops again.

(Sorry if I didn't put enough information in here; tell me if you need to know anything else.)

Hello..
I have searched EVERYwhere but cannot seem to find a person who experience similar problem, let alone a solution.
I've been using Linksys WRT54G router for quite a while now with the two computers that i currently have. (ISP:Rogers Hi Speed) There hasn't been any problem until this week.
I haven't changed ANY settings on either my computer or my router (other than some port forwarding). All of a sudden i cant connect to the internet on one of my two computers connnected via this router (this is a wireless router, but i am NOT using wireless. All computers are WIRED to the router.)
I have tried a bunch of basic things like plugging off the modem n router, resetting the router to factory default, etc.
The compouter does recognize the router, for example, when I plug my router off, the computer says "the local area connection cable is plugged off" or something along that line. Also, the local area connection shows up on Control Panel/Network and Internet Connections.
A strange thing is, when i run the "system restore" from the start menu, the internet works. If i restart the computer, it doesnt work again.

I would really appreciate your help on this matter.
Thanks a LOT in advance.

My 12-year old son just downloaded AIM to chat with his friends, which I don't mind. I do mind him accessing AIM Today which is a browser with no parental controls that comes coupled with AIM. He used to use Yahoo as his browser which I have set to "teen" which limits access to inappropriate content. I uninstalled AOL explorer, but he still has access to AIM Today. Don't know if it can be separated from the Instant Messaging feature. I've seen the software packages out there that allow you to monitor IMs and sites visited, but I would much prefer just getting rid of AIM Today. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello,
I don't know if anyone can help as I haven't a lot of information.
A friend of mine, who has Windows XP, wanted to put some parental control on his PC.
He left clicked somewhere and found a list with privacy on that he left clicked on. He had to type in a password and then re-enter the password for confirmation, he was then asked to put in a 'hint' to remind him of his password. He has done all of that but now when he wants to access the internet and he is asked for his password he is told it is not valid and he cannot gain access to the internet.
Is there anything that he can do to remedy this?
Help would be appreciated.
Thank you

Hi
I have set up standard user account on my PC for grandson but I am having problems applying parental controls.
I have downloaded ?Windows Live Family Safety? and selected the items I think are appropriate but when I log into my grandson account I am able access very adult sites very easily. When the account boots up a pop-up appears at the lower right of the screen advising that adult sites are blocked and monitoring is on but clearly this is not so.
I have read the tutorial supplied by this site ?Parental Controls ? Setup and Use? and what happens to me differs from that described. When I select my grandsons account at ?Control Panel ? All Control Panel Items ? Parental Controls? ? I am taken the ?Windows Live Family Safety? site and not to ?User Controls? as described. I am never presented with opportunity to enforce current settings.
I have really run out of ideas and would greatly appreciate some help please.

Enable the Content Advisor in IE. You cannot hae alternate browsers or he/she will use it and circumvent the Content Advisor. Password protect each account and only give him a limited account. Restrict him/her from downloading and installing programs. That will allow him/her to use alternate browsers.

Hello Debbie, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Usually it will be more effective to check the Only allow websites which are on the allow list box to block all websites except for the ones you allow by adding it to the white list instead. The filter just can't catch everything by only blocking a few sites or type of sites.

Well I haven't downloaded anything recently, so this can't be from a virus. I just tried to go to a website, and it says I cannot go because of a parental block with NIS(Norton Internet Security). So I opened up Norton, and the parental control is on (I didn't turn it on) and there's a user account, with a password, and I have no idea what it is. This is my own computer, and I'm the only one that uses it. I've tried going to add/remove programs and clicking change, but since I'm not on a "supervisor" account with NIS it doesn't allow me to do that. (I saw a fix on another forum involving doing that and resetting the password...) I can't/won't do system restore... Any ideas?

We have a 15-year-old son/stepson who is with us a few days every 2 weeks and want to install some parental controls. I found the categories and selected settings (eg, limited restriction, full, none, etc.), includin full access on user-generated websites (which I thought might cover facebook info), then input facebook as an unlimited access web site. However, that measure apparently did not override other limitations in enabling access to facebook. The site has foul language and who knows what else, but we were going to allow him access to facebook (and my space), just no other sexual, gambling, etc. sites.

How can I do this? Are the other settings overriding my entering facebook as an approved site? (At one point, we were able to login to facebook, but then view nothing and, of course, input nothing).

Thanks so much. Any help appreciated.

If problem persists, see your system administrator." good_help responded with a regedit potential fix that worked for this user but I could not find the answer to the final post below.

The last post from the thread last year read:

"I have found the regedit and have located

You might try activating the Administrator Account (Administrator Account) then log on to that account and see if you can delete the parental controls from there. Hope it works.

My son has a PSP 1000 and he seems to use it to acces the internet via WLAN.
Our family has a "Seimens Gigaset 504 AGU" router which also wired to a desktop computer.

The problem is that I SUSPECT that my son has been viewing inappropriate material on the PSP, but I have no proof that he does, because he deletes the search history and web history from the browser.

Why do I suspect him is because he acts strange when I ask him to show me what he is doing on the PSP and shuts it down imediately.

Can anyone please suggest a method that can let me gather proof without using any kind of physical force, maybe a keylogger for a psp, or an application that logs whatever website users visit over a WLAN network.

It would be good if one can find an application that logs whatever website users visit over a WLAN network.

Please help me

Umm... We can't really determine the true intent here, so our policy is to abstain from offering advice in this area.

The only thing I can suggest is you use a router that has parental controls and blocks other sites.

Hi! My son is 6. Recently he has become very interested in playing with PC, so I would like to install some parental control software. However, there are dozens of different parental control software products on the Internet and it's quite hard to make a good choice. Does anyone have some experience using such kind of applications? Our computer is currently running Windows 8. Thanks!

I created a temporary limited account on my computer and activated parental control for that account. Now the account has been deleted, but parental control keeps popping up in my lower right-hand toolbar every time I restart my computer, despite customizing the toolbar to always hide it. How do I get rid of this thing?

I'm trying to set parental controls on my standard user accounts. I am the administrator. When I click on the account, a dialogue box pops up and says "Unable to make changes to parental control settings, if this problem persists contact your system administrator." As I said, I am the system administrator.

I'm looking for suggestions on how to control my kids from accidentally (or otherwise) accessing sites that are explicit or otherwise not suitable for children.

Is there a software package that will allow me to list sites that I want to allow my kids to visit? And a feature that allows me to totally block certain sites? I know my router has a small amount of this type of feature but I'm looking for something a bit more comprehensive.

Suggestions?

Hi ,
Does anybody know on which technology the vista parental control web filtering is working on? on ICRA?
has it the same quality like symantec internet security ?

Also i want to setup a Server for my family which runs vista with enabled webfiltering. Then i share the server's internet connection so that other computers in the network can use the internet through that server.
If the vista webfiltering on the server is enabled, do the dependent clients have also filtered access by default?

Thks

A:Vista Parental Control

All this depends on how you set Vista on the server. For example, if you have parental controls running on the server that apply to all systems - then there's no need for them on the individual systems (it'll just increase the overhead).

On the other hand, if you'd like to let each machine have individual settings - you can do that in parental controls on each system - or by using the tools on the server.

Hello all

I have discovered that the web restrictions I set up on my 5 year old son's account aren't working at all. He only goes on the BBC cbeebies website at the moment, and I set the controls to "Only allow websites which are on the allowed list", and only added the cbeebies address to the list, but it is still possible to browse anywhere. I then tried "Block web content automatically", and set this to high, but it still allows me to browse to exactly the sort of website I don't want my 5 year old to see.

As an experiement, I set the "Can (name) play games", to "No", and tried opening Solitaire, but this part of the parental controls IS working, because it wouldn't allow this.

Also, activity reporting is set to "On", but when I check the activity report, both the "Top 10 Websites Visited" and "Most Recent 10 Websites Blocked" are completely blank, even though I have browsed many websites in an attempt to get them blocked, when using his account.

Please help

Thanks, Craig

Hi, could any1 plz tell me how to undo, reset or whatever it is I have to do to deactivate parental control on a windows vista laptop. My friend has it on her daughters laptop and has forgotton her password. It is making it hard for her daughter to do much on the net. Any suggestions would be appreciated! I am also curious as to whether we could restore the laptop to a earlier time-before P.C was activated and if that would override parental control? Thank you, Wanda

A:unlocking parental control?

If she has forgotten her password and didn't create a password reset disk, then there is nothing she can do. If she had a system backup made before the Parental Controls were set, yes, she could restore back to that (I doubt she makes backups, though).Otherwise, her only other options would be a clean install or a factory image restoration (only available if manufacturer provides it, have to check documentation that came with computer).Due to the Rules set forth for Bleeping Computer, we cannot help you "crack" the password. No subject matter will be allowed whose purpose is to defeat existing copyright or security measures. If a user persists and/or the activity is obviously illegal the staff reserves the right to remove such content and/or ban the user. This would also mean encouraging the use or continued use of pirated software is not permitted, and subject to the same consequences.

Is there a way to set a different password for the Parental Controls which is different from the Administrator password? My wife keeps turning it off for the kids when they need to access sites for homework. I have a specific user account set for homework purposes which does not impose restrictions, but she does it anyway then forgets to turn it back on. Someone please help.

A:Parental Control Password

Hi epiotr,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Sorry, but any Administator can access and change Parental Control settings using their own password - it can't be set to one specific password or even to one specific Administrator (well maybe the latter - more on that below).

There's now another related option available called Family Safety Protecting your kids with Family Safety which does essentially the same thing as Parental Controls but may provide some additional options (and doesn't include all the options available with Parental Controls - so using both together can help refine the alternatives). But again, as with Parental Controls, Family Safety can be accessed and changed by any Administrator and cannot be assigned a specific and separate password or blocked to all but one Administrator (again - more on this below). This does not solve or address the problem you raised, but I thought it might be helpful considering you are in a situation where you are using Parental Controls and this is something new (and free) from Microsoft that might help you improve or refine your constraints.

Actually, now that I think about it there may be a way to block access to all but one specific Administrator - not by creating a special password wihich can't be done - but by amending the Parental Control (and Family Safety if you add that) file permissions to allow only the one Administrator access (you) and remove access from the Administrator group as a whole and anyone else with permissio... Hi guys,

I decided to test out the Parental Controls on my Windows 7 Ultimate computer.

I am the only user, so I made a test account to see what these controls offer.

When I deleted the account and disabled the parental controls all seemed to be back as normal. However, whenever I start my computer a notification pops up in the taskbar reminding me to create a password to enable the parental controls.

Is there a way to turn off this bubble. It is probably something simple that I overlooked.

Greetings,

I am setting up a game or 2 for the welfare coordinator to use for the kids. Thing is that I need to disable these games during class hours. Would be kinda problematic if the kids where playing during class.

So is there a program out there that can help us?

Thing is that the school computers is in a domain. There for I can't just use the "windows 7" parental control software. I need a program that I can either setup on each machine that will disable this program from for example 8 AM to 3 PM. Or a program that can control if the games are allowed from a remote computer, like the one I got in my office.
