programs dont start until I reboot -

Q: programs dont start until I reboot -

Quickbooks doesn't want to print about half the time - I have to restart the computer - this is also happening with my Outlook in opening. All used to work - but now they don't - can't determine an exact time - but think it may have to do with updates that have been installed. Also, any Outlook updates have to be installed by manually going to the MS website. Running Vista 64-bit/Outlook 2007/and Quickbook 2007

If updates were just installe, remove via System Restore. If everythign works the way it should, set update to not install, but to notify.
Then install one at a time and test. If things work install the next.

Hi all, I have the following question. When I start windows, rarely one program does not load. Say it is not frequently, but sometimes I do not see the icon Winamp or the GpuTweak in the tray where are the other basic programs (antivirus, windows update ...). But although I do not see there, I have no problem opening the program.

This is normal? It is something that usually happens as a small bug?

A:Sometimes some startup programs dont start

Sounds like in your settings some programs are set for only show notifications.

Hi there, I am completely new to this stuff. I don't know what the majority of what you are telling people to do means, but here goes. Last week when I went to bed one night, everything was fine. I was logged in to facebook and I believe ebay. When I got up the next morning, I had no start bar at the bottom of screen (and still don't) I have the icon for IE on my desktop but that won't open. Somehow I found "my computer" and tried to click on different programs or different favorites I normally used. I get the same thing each time, windows cannot find device.

I tried to run a scan, but no matter what I check to scan, it immediately comes back "disabled", so nothing runs.
I downloaded IE8, but that won't open either. I REALLY wanted to download photos from my camera and I can't find my Canon camera window to where it asks me what i want to do with camera. I can get on firefox for internet, but am afraid to do anything other than facebook. I don't know what to do. Someone at work told me to try starting pc in "safemode" by hitting f8 or ctrl f8, but that as with so many other things says "cannot launch application".

I just don't know what to do.

I just formatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows 7, everything went smooth and I updated everything with windows update. After it installed service pack 1 I couldnt start most programs that I have installed for example winamp, vlc and utorrent and thats all I have realised so far. If I just simply double click on one of those programs I get a process that is always 120k no matter which program and it will keep allowing you to click just making even more of these processes. I can get these programs to start if I run as administrator but when they start explorer crashes, I have tried searching the web but no-one else seems to have quite the same problem and I wouldnt have a clue as to what I could do to stop it. I would class myself as a quite knowledgeable with computers but I just cant figure this one out. Any help would be great and now my system specs:

msi x58 pro mobo
core i7 920 @ 2.67ghz
12gb corsair ddr3 1333mhz
geforce gtx 295 zotac
1050 watt psu

A:reformatted windows 7 and most programs dont start

1) Why did you need to reinstall? The fact that you are using utorrent raises a yellow flag.

2) After reinstalling, did you download and install all drivers including the chipset driver?

When I encounter an error in some of my utility programs (incryption software, vista manager, etc) I close them. But then they never properly start up again. They usually freeze so I go into task manager and end the process(s) that are giving me the problem. But when I try to start it back up the proces appears but not the actual program gui. help? THis happens with explorer.exe as well.

Hi duker,

to be honest, it does sound like an infection of some kind. Even though your scans come up clean, there is still a chance you're infected:

Hi Everyone,

Got a laptop where start menu programs are hidden only a few are visible, also some of the programs wont run, thought this was odd so did the following.

Ran Rkill.... logs attached
Ran malwarebytes.... nothing found.
Ran AdwCleaner.... nothing found
Ran TDSSKiller and this turned up a driver issue every time. I skipped on the fix because i was skeptical, I've run it about five times and its come up with a different driver every time. very strange....
Ran RogueKiller..... Logs attached...
Ran Combofix... this brings everything back to normal.... logs attached.

I did think this fixed it but nope when i restarted the machine it turns out we are back to square one.

Any help you can give, gratefully received.

Hi all,

I think my computer (hp desktop with Windows XP) got infected with similar virus(es) as many of you posted. It started with frequent popup windows warning about internet security attack, and 'Programs' and other selections under START are invisible. So I followed instructions on one thread of this forum to download SDFix, then tried to restart in safe mode and failed.

I was able to reboot after performing system recovery, but when I run SDFix, I didn't see the same message as shown in the instruction page, with a y/n choice. Instead, I got many more choices (A-E, 1-3, etc) and none of them looks like the right one. Should I download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and run it first?

Thanks a lot for your help!

You should not be following specific instructions provided to someone else. Those instructions were given to help fix that particular member's problems, NOT YOURS. Before taking any action, the helper must investigate the nature of the malware issues and then formulate a fix for the victim. Although your problem may be similar, the solution could be different based on the kind of hardware, software, system requirements, etc. and the presence of other malware. Using someone else's fix instructions could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system. It's best that you tell us what specific issues YOU are having rather than point to someone else. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click... Hi, I am Emy from the Netherlands. Wish you all a nice day!

I have troubles with - at least - one of the computers in the little network here. I will describe some of the troubles.
-Links to internetpages on the desktop dont work. I need to paste those in a blank window.
-2 weeks ago the home internetpage was blocked. After looking in a lot of forums I found how to change the homepage to Google. (by changing the registry)
-Online scanners for spyware dont start/are interrupted or dont find anything wrong
-Windows installer is coming up after every click I make to install Symantec Antivirus. But Symantec is already installed.
-I tried programs like Ccleaner and ATF; also Combofix. The last one was also interrupted (black screen). I installed the recovery console. Dont know how to delete this console.
-Even when I dont use this computer, it is like the computer is busy - at times (sounds like when using a program busy converting media files)
-I couldnt activate my membership. Not using the first link, nor the second one. Got a message that something wrong.
-I found srchassctl in the registry. Erased the Search Assistant. After rebooting ACMRU was gone, but SrchAssCtl is here again
-I found msmsgs a lot of times on this computer. I think the problems started with a message in the Live messenger.

Now I will paste the properly files to this topic. DDS and Attach

opera doesnt work:" Startup Error:Opera has failed to access or upgrade your profile. This may have occurred because your computer has insufficient resources available or because some files are locked by other applications. You may have to restart your computer before Opera will start again.";
the same thing happens with many other programs.;
i cant seem to do anything that requires admin privileges (i am on an admin account but not the root admin): for example when i click show processes for all users(in the task manager) it doesnt do anything.;
the computer is about slower than usual(logging on took a long time, start menu freezes up a bit, search doesn't work);
to me it seems like a number of files and folders where moved or deleted (like in program files or something).
could this be a virus, or just a buggy or incompatible software(I just installed Miro)?
please help.

I just rebuilt this computer and it working basically ok now. heres the issue im having, when I go to add remove programs it only shows the stuff ive installed since the reload, not all the programs that were installed on the system previously. I think the registry is not right, is there any way the restore it or have windows rebuild it? or will all the programs need to be reinstalled, most of them still work, but some do not.

A:rebuilt system from backup, but programs dont show in add/remove programs

I dont know what sort of backup you did. When you reinstall the o/s
its like starting over. Your right about registry issues. Thing is, is that
when you install a program it inserts a special registry entry. When you
reinstall windows, it has no clue as to how to deal with that particular
entry, thus you need to reinstall. For games and other programs, if
you have saved folders, they might be salvaged. Smarter minds may
differ, maybe they will chime in....

you are infected with a virus

winxp.exe is a process which is registered as [email protected]\r "This virus is distributed via the Internet through e-mail and comes in the form of an e-mail message, in the hopes that you open its hostile attachment.\r" The worm has its own SMTP engine which means it gathers E-mails from your local computer and re-distributes itself.\r "In worst cases this worm can allow attackers to access your computer, stealing passwords and personal data.\r" This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system.

A:crash code c0000218 to blue screen no back up dont reboot al

If you access the recovery partition, you will lose all your files. If you have nothing saved, it's okay. According to Google, that's usually an XP error & The Ultimate Boot CD is recommend to do a restore point. However, I would try F8 first. If you can get to the menu, choose last known good configuration. If that doesn't work, try safe mode with networking. Then try a restore point. How do you know when a politician is lying? Anyone else run into this?

I'm running Vista x64.. After awhile, say a week.. or maybe just 1 day.. frequently when i have say 4 explorer windows opened and grouped in the task bar.. I can click on the group, but attempts to click on an individual explorer session fail.. its not just explorer's that have been minimized, pretty much anything that has more than 1 item (grouped) wont let you click on any of the items.

Only fix is a reboot.

Cheers

I have gone into remove programsin the control panel and also uninstalled anything on the system i could find, even ran registry mechanic to see if that would help - no luck. i presume that when you install a program it writes a little file somewhere that records that you have already installed this file and so trying to reinstall sees this and says you already have this file on your system and wont install anything. can anyone help me here as to what i can do to get rid of these?

I have been having this problem where after I login windows just sits there...
programs dont load at all.. i can click them too and nothing happens.. sometimes only my antivirus shows up in the upbox on the right side but other than that nothing..

After about 7 boot attempts it starts to work which is surprising!

This problem started 2 days ago.. so I thought it was my OS problem and reinstalled windows but the problem keeps coming back!
I feel like the Windows update restarts are causing it or something!

I have scanned my computer with malwarebytes and Avast with no results..

This is becoming REALLY annoying and i cant seem to find a good answer.

BTW I can boot into safemode

My specs are

I've tried to follow all of the instructions as well as possible but some things are just unavoidable... i cannot run the two free virus scans because i use dial up and it takes 5 minutes just to load a page on this website let alone download that.. also on Spybot Search and Destroy, there are 18 items in which it cannot remove. even if i run it during startup or in safe mode. everything else comes out clean, or it has a few errors but they're deleted and then do not come up again.

The problem comes when trying to open files, it's a family computer and each person had their own login, some peoples logins are perfectly fine whereas others, including mine, will not allow any system folders such as my computer, or search, or any folder to open, it also doesn't allow internet explorer to work unless i right click and do run as... and then i do not get to visit all of the websites i would like such as my mail. Another issue is that no matter where i go, my documents does not exist, like when you go to C://documentsandsettings, my file doesnt exist? Also, all except for 1 of the various logins for people, do not allow the downloading of anything such as hijackthis. The download progress window opens, but the time remaining/speed and such things is blank and the status bar does not move, it then disappears and makes a noise as if an error has occured. I hope this is enough information to go off.

I am having an issue where some of the programs I run dont fully initialize on Windows 7 64-Bit. Right now there are only 2 doing it and both are 32-bit, but I don't have very many programs installed so I can't say for absolute certainty that it is only 32-bit programs that are doing this but I am pretty sure it is. I have attached pictures of what happens for both programs:

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/8964/captureii.png

and with WinAmp:

http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/6656/capture2au.png

With WinAmp it isnt a big deal because when I switch tabs on the top (the ones that say Media, Video, Browser, and Visualization) and then back again the mouse cursor changes to the one with the arrow and blue circle and then finishes loading the rest of WinAmp. I am using the 64-bit version of Win7, just recently upgraded from 32-bit XP and never had this problem on XP. I have no idea what is causing this and haven't heard of it ever so I'm totally stumped. Any help/advice or even just info about what is going on would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT: If this is the wrong forum to be posting this in, sorry, it was the most appropriate one I could find.

Hello,

I recently got a new computer with Windows 8. I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and it was causing me more problems than before, so finally I wiped everything off my computer and went back to Windows 8.

Now all of a sudden, it seems like everything that I have, I have to keep signing into it all the time.

Like when I restart my computer every morning, I have got to re-sign into my Gmail again.

Also, it seems like almost every time I just click on Internet Explorer, and I have Google as my home page, it asks me "Do you want this as your homepage?" I always click YES. I have it down as my home page. But it just keeps on asking me.

Secondly, so many of my programs won't work, it says they are "incompatible". My old ftp program wouldn't work so I bought a new one that said its compatible with Windows 8. It worked for a couple of weeks now all of a sudden it says it is incompatible.

I cannot afford this!

My html editor is incompatible, my ftp program is incompatible, my desktop bible program is incompatible.

Can anyone help me with these problems please?

Also one last thing, when I had to fill out all sorts of stuff when I first set this back to factory defaults, it was trying to make me have to use my Microsoft Account, so I had to create an account. Could this be causing these continuous signing in problems? and if so, is there a way to undo this?

A:I have to keep signing in and Programs dont work

Bibe - Toss out whatever you were using and try this:

http://online-bible.com/winonlinebible.html

Im using it now, it works on all windows versions. It's Modular, and they have a bunch of free modules. I never use anything but King James, and they have the Greek and Hebrew versions that you can install and see what it really says. Some of the more modern translations are way watered down, King James at least leaves the flavor of the original intent. They also have Thompson Chain refs and Treasury of Scripture Knowledge guides that you can install, before you download any addons read what it is, but they have bunches of free versions oad addons. Ive used hundreds of Bible Programs this is the best one, because it is just a reference, I care not for maps and pics and little noises, I just wanna see the words.

For FTP, I use SmartFTP but there are others, CuteFTP which has a free version. I think your FTP program, it may have an update, so go to the website of whoever made it, and check - They may offere it to you for free, but be prepared to pay at least a little something, usually they are not that costly.
I'll try to find more FTP alternatives for you, but try out Online-Bible, it's the best. As far as being kicked off your logins I highly suggest using an MS account and log in to your computer with THAT. I;ve never lost a login since I did it, and when I open IE or Chrome it remembers my credentials.

Guys,

Dont mean to post more than one thread at a time, but in partnership with my Tversity thread in media sharing, I recently had to completely install windows after having an immovable virus (didnt even know one existed!).

I formatted the drive completely, fresh install of Home premium (what a bargain - full version for ?50 in both 32-64 discs) and installed all my old programs, exactly like it was before.

Now Tversity doesnt work, but it did before. I have over 3tb of internal storage, filled with my own blu and dvd rips (my discs just sit there sulking nowadays) and i cannot access jack.

I was wondering if anyone else had issues following a fresh install?

Ta.

Its not the clean install, I am pretty sure of that. What is "Tveristy" and why is it necessary for accessing your rips?

many programs and icons have changed to word i have no idea why i have read to use systems restore but the lastest date i have is amonth ago will this erase all my work from this month? is there any other way to do this? this all started when my son could not access word from his switched on schoolhouse program than every thing turned to word I don't know if he pressed something or not help me!!!

A:many programs and icons are in word dont know how they became like that

Each thing that was changed will have to be changed back separately. For each program type with new icons, you need to right-click and choose Open With to assign the default program that will open that file type.

You could try System Restore. Your personal files should be untouched (but put them in your Documents folder to insure that they are saved). SR restores the "system" and not anything else, and is also reversible if you don't like the results.

Are you able to get on the Internet?
If so, first download Unhide.exe (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/unhide.exe) (by Grinler)
Once the program has been downloaded, double-click on the Unhide.exe icon on your desktop and allow the program to run. This program will remove the +H, or hidden, attribute from all the files on your hard drives. If there are any files that were purposely hidden by you, you will need to hide them again after this tool is run."

Next, download DDS from one of these links:
Mirror 1 Mirror 2 Mirror 3Disable any script blocking protection
Double click the dds icon to run the tool.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs: DDS.txt
Attach.txt <--- will be minimized in the task tray

Save both reports to your desktop.
Include the contents of both logs in your next post.
The scan will instruct you to post Attach.txt as an attachment.

My system crashed after SP2 and it basically reformatted my hard drive, I had more then 4 G's on my C drive and 19 G's on my D drive before the crash. Now, I have 1 G's left on my C drive. The problem is that whenever I want to unistall programs it gives me an error message saying it cant uninstall because it cant find files and it ends with the letters isu.

What does that mean and how can I uninstall the programs? I tried to use system restore but it doesnt let me go back to August. My SP2 was Sept 6 and I had no restore points the first few days.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

The problem is that while I can connect to the internet using IE, all of the other programs on my computer dont detect my internet connection, including Firefox. For example when I installed Microsoft Office I could not register it because it did not detect an internet connection. I use an old program in Win 7. ipdf explorer.

It allows me to manipulate pdfs. Pull out one page, or a subset of pages; add pages; make a 7 page pdf 7 1 page pdfs--all without altering the metadata or underlying structure of the pages.
When I try to install on Win 8.1 it says

Unsupported operating system, major=6, version=2.2, sp=0.0, type=1

I tried Compatibility mode to no avail. I tried some other programs but they either mess with the metadata (I'm looking at you Bullzip) or the quality of the pdf.

Any suggestions that don't involve paid Adobe products?

A:General Question: Programs that dont run in Win 8

You may need to install it on a Windows 7 Virtual Machine. I would ask on Windows 7 Forums where to download a legal image of Windows 7 Pro. VmWare Player can install the image to a Virtual Machine. Once you have it working you can install the software in the VM just as if it were running on Windows 7.

I have complete internet capabilities. I'm connected can access my e-mail, skype works, I can download anything etc. BUT for some reason, certain programs will tell me that I am not connected to the internet. Its mostly games like WoW, and Cabal, but Itunes store does it as well and Vuze works, but i cant do a search through it for the same reason. Ive tried everything I can think of, Ive allowed these programs through every part of my firewall and then tried shutting my firewall completely off. No dice. I am about to resort to a system restore and if that doesn't work I'm going to take it to best buy and get it restored to nothing but Windows 7. Before I do that I figured I would ask the internet if anyone has had a similar issue and fixed it, or just has any ideas as to how to fix this. Please help, ive been dealing with this for awhile now and im starting to get desperate lol

I still cant figure it out and it is frustrating because sometime i want to use other programs to burn because itll be much easier or sometimes it just wont be what i want to do when i'm burning. out of curiosity i slapped my CD burner and it also works with the newer programs so instead of slapping band aids on it again I seriously just want to fix the real problem because its causing me enough headaches and i can see more probably coming down the line.

Go start/control panel/ task manager/performance and maintenance/system/hardware/device manager. Look under dvd/cd rom drives. Does the drive have a yellow or red mark against it?

Try uninstalling the device by right clicking and choosing uninstall. Reboot the computer and let windows find the "new" device and install the drivers for it.

If that doesn't work, go to the manufacturer's web-site and see if there are updated drivers for the drive.

well, i use itunes, and have only run into one problem. can't use ratings in smart playlists, can't select the number of stars. steam and the hl2 games run fine. so does bf2. msts runs, but does not save the settings at all. powervcr2 has issues. right after installing it, it all worked, but after a couple of restarts, the tv tuner no longer works, but it still uses the video input fine. nero express works as far as i can tell. i have had no issues with autocad 2000. epson cd print works fine. thats about all i've used it for right now. i do everything else on my mac.

Running windows 8  i look at the control panel - firewall - allow/block an app through firewall. None of my security programs need firewall access (Mbam anti-exloit, zemana antilogger, and Winpatrol nor my on demand scanners Mbam or super antispyware).  Can someone please tell if i should give them this access and if not why wouldnt they need it? I always thought them running as admin would give them this access.

hallo all,

history
laptop keyb packed up. Win Xp pro sp3 - couldn't use my expensive video editing program. (discs are 2000miles away)

what i did to try to solve it
bought tower pc - install win xp pro sp3 with two partitions C+D. Then took it to shop and asked chap to copy laptop to partition D. Alas! my expensive program wont run.

what have i done wrong? - should i install XP on partition D also but then i need a dual start at fire-up time. Or just one partition and copy laptop to it? I did not ask how chap in shop copied laptop to pc - i thought it needed a cross-over cable and software that says - copy. The two machines have different hard drives - does that matter or only the way the file systems are set up - fat32/ntfs,etc?

Not a megaproblem but would like to preserve my laptop as is, albeit transferred to the pc.

any ideas?

thanks

karaman

A:Solved: laptop programs dont run after transfer to pc

You can't just simply transfer the contents from the laptops hdd to the desktop and still be able to run the programs. They need to be installed to the desktop not just copied to.

I decided to try to free up some space on my computer so i went through the usual... deleting unwanted programs, disc cleanup, defrag... when i came back in the defrag was taking too long so i cancelled it deciding i would finish it later (i never heard cancelling a defrag early would cause problems). i also let the annoying "windows has a critical update it would like to install" install in my computer (usually i ignore them)

i came back to my computer later to listen to some mp3s. i use MusicMatch jukebox as my default. clicking on the icon a few times didnt open the program and neither did clicking on an mp3 file. i tried to open windows media player, which opened, but a few seconds later was "not responding". my msn will start to go through the motions of signing in, but then will also go to "not responding". my internet explorer works but only sometimes... and then my windows explorer didnt want to work all the time. i restarted in safe mode to pull a few important things off the computer before it got worse and then restarted again. norton anti virus started having problems with the internet worm software.

so i tried system restore... but almost every restore point will not work. It goes through the motions, restarts, and then states that it was unable to restore to that point. in the last month i only found two that would complete, Jan 1st and the last restore point immediately before the problems (labled as the windows update install)... To the best of my knowledge, the UAC (User Account Control) can not be selectively changed to allow some programs to run and not others. It's a built in security feature of Vista. While not recommended, the UAC can be disabled. I would recommend leaving it on, but if you want to try running your system with it disabled, you can find the instructions here: User Account Control (UAC)

Let us know how this works out for you.

After turning the computer back on as normal, my firefox, League of Legends and my Norton security would not open. My computer tells me it is at risk because i dont have a wonrking virus protection, incuding windows defender. i Downloaded Malwarebytes (free) and scanned my computer, it did not come up with anything. i then restored my computer a month or so back, no changes. im hoping someone can tell me what to do because im stumped.

My nephew came to my house today asking to fix his laptop for him, but this is way above my head, there is so much wrong I dont even know where to start.

First of all dds.com does not work on his laptop, at first it didn't open so I tried with cmd.
With cmd it did work but it does not create the text files.

His complaint was that GTA wouldn't start anymore and his microsoft office wouldn't start anymore.
I started with the GTA, My guess is that it was a driver issue, the error was:
GTA cannot find audio card installed. (windows sounds do work

So I tried to download the drivers on his laptop(now he mentions IE does not start anymore) Chrome, gives a failed to download message whenever I try to download something.
I downloaded it on my computer, install didn't work.
I tried opening dxdiag, didn't work. as a sollution I found I had to use exefix.reg.
This gave an error again. To fix this I had to update my dirextX. the install does not work.

So at this point I'm scratching my eyeballs out.

If you have any idea what would cause this, any help would be much appreciated.

My pc is acting a bit strange.

1. Some programs that usually work (for this example, RegCleaner) open and are clearly seen as running when looking at processes on windows task manager (ctrl+alt+delete) but do not run on my desktop and are inaccessible by me.

2. Also, some windows do not open when links are clicked (not in IE, just in other programs = A prime example of this is when right clicking on msn to view someones profile. The window doesnt open.

However these problems are only fairly recent (within the last 2months of activity). Spyware checks seem to have no problem?

Im stuck and its annoying.

Thanks for any help

Please be patient with me as I am computer illiterate. A few weeks ago I started receiving a message stating that my windows installer was not working properly. I downloaded from microsoft installer 3.1 , however it did not seem to fix the problem. I have run numerous antivirus scans on my computer norton, trend-micro site , etc... and have not received a single virus confirmation. However the problem has become much worse.

1. I am unable to add or remove programs,. The list populates but it seems as though the add/remove option is frozen .I can highlight a program but nothing after that. The other options on that screen , ie add remove hardware do function.

2.I no longer have a start bar or icon tray . I have adjusted settings, right clicked the screen, changed the background etc... but it is still MIA . I am almost positive the toolbar was locked so I think this indicitative of the bigger problem.

3. I can only run programs through task manager (new task option)

4. When I search through yahoo, I receive a browser sending bad request error. Also I can not delete messages or compose through my yahoo account.

5. I have tried to download the xp service pack 2 ( hoping it would help) . However the IE screen is blank when I link through to the download , the bar at the bottom of the IE window says ' done" . I believe I had at least started the download once but Am not sure wether or not it was successful after that.

My system crashes. often. most reliably it crashes when i am playing diablo 2 on battlenet. it could go an hour, or maybe 3 minutes. it seems to go the busier the scenes are, though sometimes crashes when nothing is going on. sometimes it just reboots, sometimes the game just crashes and i can restart again right away.
i upgraded my video card and the crashes are still happening.
also, stable programs like yahoo msgr crash with a "yahoo messenger has a problem and needs to close now" window. control panel, my computer, random system software hangs up and needs to be closed via task manager (program not responding).
sometimes "services and apps" goes awry and i get a window telling me to save my work in 60 secs because it's about to reboot.
i reformatted not long ago. also i defrag, and scan for everything religiously (ad-ware too, i run all the major programs). i have 4 fans and the hard drive is sitting under the air conditioner.
arg!

keep getting hard drive failure message. I have the windows CD disk, but with Cd drive not detected, dont know where to start.
Any ideas??

A:dont know where to start

your hard drive might be dead :

1. open your computer case and make sure the cables are snug and check if the hard drives spins when your turn on the computer.

2. go to your bios and change the setting on your hd's to none

reboot and then go back in to the bios and see if it can find the hd - auto detect

I use the theme Non|Step II for LiteStep and think its the most beautiful thing ive ever seen. However, I dont think the theme is compatible with Nvidia or at least its past few drivers. I cant run Cyberlink DVD player or ATI TV (used for capturing halo) withought getting a black screen where the video should be (sound works fine). However when I revert to default skin or explorer as shell, all is good. I love Non|Step II and would much rather find a way to work these apps with it then to have to chose a new skin. If anyone knows how to make this type of video compatible with Non|Step II please help! I would appreciate it very much.

Hi everyone!

So here goes another post from someone who mysteriously just showed up at your forums with this being his first contribution Anyhow, I am absolutely clueless about what to do besides wiping the system, its that annoying. The sheer multitude of problems made it impossible for me to find any useful info on the web:/ If anyone has an idea id be very thankful. Oh btw, Im a computer science major so talk nerdy to me, I think I can take it

Here goes:
Since about 2 days ago, my system (Windows Server 2008 Enterprise) comes up with all sorts of funny crashes and stutters in some games, unresponsivenes in other programs and at times downright ignores when I want to start a program. In detail:

- Firefox: Temporarily unresponsive (greyed out)
- Warcraft 3: Crashes from menu and game, seemingly at random. Cannot kill the process afterwards with task manager or process explorer, gotta reboot.
- Bioshock: Stutters and hangs as early as in the first Logo screens and videos. Stutters last for about 5-10 secs, then game commences as normal for about the same amount of time, then more stutters. I checked procexp with the game windowed and it shows that the Bioshock.exe goes from ~60% cpu usage when acting normal to 3% and lower during the stutters. No other process is using the cpu time though, it just goes up and down every few seconds, letting the idle process have its share without anything else happening. At least killing the exe works as intended.

First of all i'd like to thank who ever for their time and helping me! Now for the problem..

I think my there is some sort of backdoor thing that's hauling in a ton of mal/spy/whatever there is on my pc. To be more specific
AVG reports: Trojan Horse Generic28.anic, BackDoor.Generic15.axla and TDSSKiller reports Virus.Win64.ZAcces.a in services.exe.

This alone should be problematic enough and I think this is causing a wide range of other problems.

1) I can't seem to run any Windows Updates (can't open in Control Panel, not listed in services and cant manually add registry keys to make it appear?)
2) Google searches are randomly redirecting me to other sites also I have the feeling my browsers are being run through a proxy or something because opening google.com (for example takes a good 20-30 seconds) where as it's usually 1 or 2.
3) Started recently, some addware Text Enhance is loaded in Firefox. (already checked extensions and it's no where to be found)
4) Also recently in all my browsers (even after complete reinstall) my cookies seem to have been disabled? Even when they are obviously enabled in the Options menu.

Really hope this makes any sense and someone is willing and able to help me!
Thanks in advance

Hello, i am jus at odds about this computer. I have done a restore, reformat, re, re , re and still the same thing. I believe tht its in my restore system. I have no restore points what so eva. I have restored using tha disk and still it takes at least 2 days 2 complete. While doing this with the disk I noticed that a program called "pc angel creator was being installed. Dont know if thats legit or not. I have had numerous of trojans, at times 5 or more. I have now downloaded commodo firewall and dont know how to configure it. Every thing I download is either not started or has been infected while downloading. I have ran numerous of programs but find nothing. Spyware Forum suggested that I contact you. Since then I have had to use disk to format all over again. But I believe its in the restore system. Same thing keep happening. Alright, lets begin by saying that no, I dont run around downloading "extra ram" or "free minecraft diamond hacks". This is on my gaming PC, and I usually only update drivers and download games from steam.

So, first, lets begin by saying it appears windows cannot access information about my hardware, and show them all as "Not available". Although, sysinfo and similar programs can read it just fine.

The issues started around a year ago when my computer starting waking itself up from sleep mode at nighttime. I went into the cmd, using the command "powercfg -lastwake", which lead me to believe that automatic checks for updates were the cause of the random wakes at night. I went into task schedule and changed everything that had anything to do at night to only activate after pc has been on for 30 min, or at log on.

This solved the issue for around a month or two, then it started happening again, only this time powercfg is showing "Wake history -0".

Then an automatic windows update shut my computer off, but ended with a message saying "Windows couldnt install updates, reverting changes" which also I didnt mind because 18 out of the 19 updates were "preparations" for windows 10.
Due to this issue, I ONLY use sleep mode as it takes around 30 minutes for the proccess to finish. But about 3 months ago, I noticed I didnt have any internet connection after waking the computer up from sleep mode, requiring... Read more

Well, this is my first post, and never thought I'd be doing this... but I've ran into a computer problem that I cant fix on my own (I'm highly proficient with PCs, and myself have worked in IT, and am now a programmer).

This is really frustrating to not be able to solve this one on my own. I will probably end up having to reformat & reinstall, but I thought I'd try this first. I really dont want to have to reformat, as I just got windows the way I like it (again), and I have a 1.5TB hard drive that is full (with no way to backup 500gb of that).

Anyways, I dont even know where to begin, as there are so many infections. I've done all the usual (multiple times in and out of safe mode): run hijackthis, combofix, manually cleaned out the registry, swept my hard drive for suspicious files, (attempted) online virus scans, etc etc etc.

Its been about 3 weeks now since I was last able to use my desktop. PLEASE let me know what is needed to get started. The files that APPEAR to be giving the most problems are reader_s.exe and services.exe ... but thats only the half of it. I was somehow able to get to the final step of trendmicro housecall online virus scan (before something shut it down), and it had informed me of over 20 distinct malwares/viruses in over 2000 files! Like I said, its a mess. I dont know how many I have taken care of myself, but some just keep coming back anyways. HELP!

A:so many viruses, I dont know where to start

There are some very nasty infections running thru lately and one new variant that so damages system files it cannot be repaired.

I would suggest moving the hard drive to another computer and salvaging data there.

Beware Im a beginner and am new to the site.Ok It all started after a bad storm it cut my power off an on a couple times one of the times my computer was shut down i unplugged the power cord to my computer cause every time the power would come back on my computer would automatically turn on. Power was shut down for 3 hours. Once power was restored i plugged the computer back in after loading i discovered my USBs dont work. None of them.

Searching for a solution i somehow downladed a bunch of viruses that are seriously messing with me. Ok so computer is not slowed or crashing it froze up once after i got the virus but is running pretty normally but with a bunch of added annoyences.

I occasionally get redirected when searching in google.. Hearing a radio show or AD coming from the computer but i would have no programs running and internet off I dont think it is a radio signal ive had the same speakers an theyve never picked it up before an i have not moved.. I tried to install the programs you suggested but it would not run the installer after installation.. I use AVG and spybot.. Spybot will not open an is showing me the same registry entry:

I have a c++ for dummies 4th edition book, this is informative but still goes beyond me(i dont learn as fast as a computer can). Like 20 pages in it was already talking about binaries and "cout" and i dont know what is going on. What i dop know is i want to learn c++ badly. Also i tried to copy a simple text disply program from a site to see if it would work in my djgpp rhide cimpilation device which came with the book. This didnt work. Does spacing, tabbing, entering, or any of that matter in entering in code of sorts? Again i know alot about computers and the like, but c++ is too vast to start somewhere on my own. i need some help.
