Copy a manifest file

Q: Copy a manifest file

Hey hey, this is my first post on this forum, so Hello.

I'm after a bit of help. My friend's laptop has a problem; Vista loads up, but gets stuck with an error message "Interactive logon process initialization has failed".

I've googled for a fix to this problem, and have had some success. I made a bootable Vista restore disc on a USB stick and have copied C:\Windows\System32\winevt\Logs\Application.evtx to view on my own laptop. I've identified a manifest file that I think I can just write over with a working version of, but I'm on Windows 7 on my laptop, so haven't got a copy of the right manifest file.

What's the best way of getting it?

The file I need is C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\x86_microsoft.windows.c..-controls.resources_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.6001.18000_en-us_72e6f33f34dfabb9.manifest

I would be happy for someone to email a copy of this file over to me. Seems like the quickest solution (?)

Thanks

I have a WHS 2011 server that cannot update. According to the checkSUR log I an missing the following file winsxs\manifests\wow64_microsoft-windows-ie-htmlrendering_31bf3856ad364e35_9.4.8112.20554_none_92a2291542613f64.manifest. Through the registry I determined the file is associated with update kb2722913. I also found evidence that the file is located in that kb on the microsoft website. When I expand the update and look for the manifest file I cannot find it. I have usedwinrar, 7-zip, and the console command to expand and view the files. In fact there are no files in the kb that start with wow64. Does anyone have any idea where I can get this manifest and get the server back up and running. I was missing 2 manifests but I was able to get one manifest out of a different kb using the tutorial on SUR in these forums. I tried to uninstall kb23722913 and that failed. I also tried to reinstall the kb and that also did not work

Hello all, I have searched the forum and Google and not found anything on this. Whenever I use RUN, and type in msconfig, and hit enter I get the error message below. If I hit cancel it starts just fine with no apparent side effects.

Here is the error:

A problem was encountered while processing the custom tools manifest file (C:\Windows\system32\MSCFGTLC.XML). Please check the file for errors and verify that all expected tools are displayed.

The thing is, the file mentioned (MSCFGTLC.XML) doesnt exist on my system. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

**EDIT** Btw, this is a new system, not upgraded from XP. Thanks again!

As the Microsoft W10-offer is about to run out, and as I have not been able to take them up on it due to missing files which made Microsoft roll back the upgrade, I present my problem here so to have it resolved in time.
I prefer an upgrade so I don't have to reinstall all my programs.

In the thread Windows Update Manifests - Manually Trace Through Registry the missing manifest was found to be related to a KB-number in the value > CBS_package_10_for_kb976325~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.0.1.0.976325_13c20f60bc4ede2f.

I've been getting messages that say "This application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect" for nearly all my programs. My Internet Explorer 64bit still works, as does notepad and a handful of other applications.

I spent the past few days researching how to fix this, and have tried several things to no avail-
- sfc/ scannow in the command prompt finds a corrupted file but can't fix it
- restoring my computer to a previous point, even several weeks back, has no effect.
- restarting my computer in safe mode and then trying sfc/ scannow didn't help. in fact, now my laptop is stuck in safe mode.
- I did a virus scan with TrendMicro, but just caught some spyware and low-threat items.
- Anything I download comes up with the sidebyside error when I try and install it.

Through the event log, I have located the problem manifest file. I'm at home right now and might be able to replace the corrupted/broken one with a working file from my family's home computer. My question is if I should go ahead with the procedure and see if it will work?

Hi, every time we start up the computor we get the messsage unable to open the file D:\ CD Manifest.dat. we have to click cancel to get past it and carry on but we cannot fix the problem can you help???

A:start up error message unable to open the file D:\CD manifest.dat

Something is trying to run a program using pointing to a CD file.

This is usually found in the Registry's RunOnce entries.

Try this:

FIRST: Right-click My Computer, select Manage, expand [+] Event Viewer, look at each log for an error entry and double-click it to see details, use info to fix.
OR: Open Regedit ([Start] menu, Run, type regedit)...
...use File, Export option, to backup your Registry...
...use Edit menu, Find, and enter RunOnce in the search field, [OK]....
...look for an entry in every RunOnce found (you may have to expand [+] the entry) and find the specific entry line that calls the file or a program that may be looking for the file and click it to select....
...delete [Del] just the erroneous entry...
...you should use [F3] to continue search until end, to make sure the entry is not anywhere else.

I am doing a fresh install on a machine that I have replaced the hard drive.

I am using the retail version of windows that was used on the computer from the hard drive before.

When I install windows I get through the formatting of the harddrive and the re installation. the computer then reboots and I get the screen that says it will take approx 39 minutes to reinstall windows.

It then gets up a error message and this is what the error message says

Installation Failed D:\I386\asms error Message: A component's file does not match component manifest.

Then a log error comes up that says

one of the components that windows needs to continue setup could not be installed. A component's file does not match the verification information present in the component manifest.

Where is this component manifest and how can I correct the information present?

I'm currently in the process of copying files back from the cloud in the exact same location where I had them before and now it says that the file name is too long and prompts to see whether I want to skip the file or not. The error message given does not
give the full file name or the path so it is impossible to see which files were copied successfully or not. This never happened with XP! Then afterwards I found that some of the files with long names did copy successfully whereas others didn't. I find this
to be a very user unfriendly process and I'm totally confused! These are critical files and I'm sure I haven't exceeded 260 characters or whatever. This is soOoO frustrating!!

C

A:file copy error message not sufficient + file name too long will not copy

Hi ,

There is a limit of filename length within Windows Explorer. In the Windows API (with some exceptions discussed in the following paragraphs), the maximum length for a path is MAX_PATH, which
is defined as 260 characters.
The shell and the file system have different requirements. It is possible to create a path with the Windows API that the shell user interface is not able to interpret properly.
This means that your long filename can only be handled at the command prompt level and you cannot drag and drop an illegal length filename within Windows Explorer.

Please simplify your folders and titles.

More information, please check the part of Maximum Path Length Limitation in the link below.

I'm in the process of repair/recovery of my machine (Dell Inspiron 8500 with Windows XP Home, Service Pack 2). I'm following exactly the instructions in: http://attachments.techguy.org/attac...chmentid=62075, but a problem has developed. The "software" file (which is the file that the original blue screen error message says is "corrupt, absent or not writable") will not copy to the new tmp directory to create the backup. My understanding from the article is that this backup file (software.bak) will later be used to restore correct settings for various software applications. Since I can't copy it, it appears that I am screwed, no? Or is there a way out somehow?

Thanks to anyone who's been there and can help...

BTW I have the XP installation disk that came with, and a diagnostics disk which I have not yet run.

A:Blue Screen: Registry File Failure; can't copy corrupted file to tmp directory

Never mind, I had it wrong--didn't read the document referred to above carefully enough. The procedure worked like a charm, and the document is very easy to read and entertaining to boot! (pun intended).

The document describes a procedure that closely follows a Microsoft KB document (which I now can't find) but does not contain any warning regarding whether the OS is an OEM (original equipment manufacture) install or not. The Microsoft doc says not to use the procedure on an OEM-installed OS, but I just did it on my Dell, so that warning seems to be incorrect.

Many many thanks for the help provided by this document and this site.

I cannot copy or paste jpeg files from my computer to my SD 2GB cards. Also, I get this msg when I try to print jpeg files. Using Adobe Elements I am able to archive these files. Oddly enough I can attach and send these jpeg files via email. Prior to August '08 was able to do these tasks without a problem. I've looked at several sites on the internet but none seem to have the right solution for my problem. THANKS for any help that you can provide! -Stu

A:Error copying file or folder; cannot copy img the directory or file cannot be created

This has caught me more than once.

The problem is a limitation on the number of files and folders allowed in the root folder of a FAT16 file system (as for a memory card) of 512. (Note, this number is reduced much further if longer file names than 8 characters are used, as most people will want to).

When transferring the files onto the card, new files will be rejected when you hit this limit.

So keep your files in separate folders, so they are not all in the root folder.

For files and folders in root it might be worth keeping your filenames under 8 characters in length so you can use the full 512 files on root folder.

Hi,
I would like to create a .bat to copy files from source folder to destination folder.
Some files in source folder already exist in destination folder (Same name)
What I would like is that files existing in destination folder to be rename to f.eks filename_BAK.extension.
Eksampel.:
Source folder include. FileOne.asp - FileTwo.exe - FileTree.txt
Destination folder include. FileOne.asp - (NO FileTwo) - FileTree.txt
Result. FileOne.asp (version from source)(Existing renamed to FileOne_BAK.asp) - FileTwo.exe - FileTree.txt (version from source)(Existing renamed to FileTree_BAK.txt)
Now in desination folder.: FileOne.asp - FileOne_BAK.asp - FileTwo.exe - FileTree.txt - FileTree_BAK.txt
Files in source folder are placed in different folders, but in same structure in destination.

When I use the XCopy command in Windows 2000, I can copy any file I like; however, when I use copy-and-paste or drag-and-drop in either Windows Explorer or PowerDesk, I get the following error:

Cannot Copy File: Cannot Read from the Source File or Disk

I searched the Microsoft Knowledge Base and came up with only one article, Q224378. This article seems not to apply to my situation because it applies to Windows 2000 Server. I am running Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 2. I did attempt to install the fix that article Q224378 suggested anyway; but, I got an error message that I was attempting to upgrade a program that didn't exist on my system.

I have also learned that this error applies when copying from either of my SCSI CD-ROM drives, not when copying from hard disks or floppies.

Any Suggestions?

We currently have a folder which new builds are copied and compressed to .zip files and stuck in a  folder. Dozens of zip files are created every day
What I want to do is the following:

I want to copy the newest zip file from folder 1 to folder 2 and extract it.

What is the simplest way to find and copy the newest zip file considering multiple zip files are created each day?

Structure:
• I have a network directory that stores photos of individuals in jpg format. There may be only 2 pics of each person, or there may be 7 pics.
• Each persons pics are stored in a randomly named directory / subdirectory. dont have any control over the original program, it's just the way it was written, does not seem to follow any logical pattern, possibly a HEX naming structure based off the date & time, who knows (I will include a sample directory tree at the end of the post).
• Included within each of these created directories, along with the pictures, is a standard text file (filename "B.TXT") which includes the date the picture was taken, the persons name, and other information.
• Each time a person comes in and their picture is taken, the program: (i) creates the random directory (ii) stores the pics (iii) creates the "B.TXT" file with the persons information (iv) generates several other program specific files that I have no need for.
• The program names each of the pictures with the exact same names, which is why they are stored in different directories, so they will not overwrite. The retention period on each individuals directory, pics and files is approximately 40 days.

I have the game 'Crysis' on two backup DVD's. I had to put the installation files in a .rar and split them so I could back it up (I downloaded the game digitally from EA)

So when I insert disk 1 and try to copy 'Crysis.part1.rar' to D:/Crysis (D: is my data drive, C: is strictly the OS and maybe 2 or 3 applications installed on it) it copies most of it, but when it gets to '5 seconds remaining' it comes up with this error. It takes like 6 minutes to copy it and then it errors out when it's almost done! I've tried 3 times and the error popped up every time. The disk is spotless... I mean it looks brand new. Not even a speck of dust or any smudges at all.

Why am I getting this error?? I don't know what to do! If I can't copy it I'll have to redownload the entire 6gb installation package from EA, which will take probably 4-5 hours.

Please help!

Additional file info from within the error window:
"Can't read from the source file or disk."
Name: Crysis.part1.rar
Size: 4.37gb (4,588,544KB)
Date Modified: 11/2/2009 12:25PM

Other additional info:
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64
I have all the latest updates via Windows Update
There is only one account on this computer, mine, and it has full administrative privileges

I'm currently using Richcopy to move about 4TB worth of data from our colo facility (1000 miles away) to our office. And that data also gets routed overseas first before coming back (don't ask). Needless to say, connectivity while not bad, could be better.

The small files are zooming right along, the issue is the larger files (the ones that are hundreds of MB or even several GB).

From time to time, I briefly lose network connectivity for a second or two, when that happens, the files currently being copied abort and once connectivity is restored, Richcopy just moves on to the next files. So when Richcopy advertises that it 'resumes', it seems it is talking about resuming a file copy queue, and not resuming partially copied files. Those have to start over from the beginning.

Is there a tool similar to Richcopy with the functionality I'm looking for?

Thanks!

Hi, I have a file with no extension called simply, D:\file

I want to copy this to multiple locations, eg e:\file , f:\file

sometimes there will already be an older version, so I would like it to overwrite the file.
Is this possible with a bat file?
I tried a simple copy command in a bat file, but it wouldn't copy at all.

thanks.

Have you tried 'xcopy' with the /y flag. This should copy the files and overwrite without it prompting you.... Would this suut your needs?

I have a user for whom shares and permissions on the server are working just fine.
I have another user for whom something is screwed up somewhere.
I've taken a directory that is shared and I've looked up the share and permissions for both. Identical.
But do this for 3,000 files/directories in a tree, no can do.
I'd like to take all the share and privilege information for Suzie and give them to Tom.
Can do?

A:Copy shares and permissions on file x to file z? Is this possible?

What usergroups are they assigned to? Also you say you have a server? Is it a domain controller?

I would copy the usergroups that are assigned to Suzie and give them to Tom rather than editing the share permissions themselves.

Just my opinion,
Josh

A MANIFEST file is an xml file with the same name as your executable that tells windows which versions of dependencies (dll files and such) to use with the executable.

This is a component of HP Digital Imaging Toolbox. You probably have a missing executable or a corrupted startup entry. Uninstall and reinstall all HP Printer/Scanner/Camara drivers on your computer and it should take care of it.

My C drive is nearly empty, so I downloaded TreeSize, which says that my "Manifest Cache" is huge, taking up 90% of the space. I haven't been able to download service pack 1 for this computer--an error always happen--and I think that has something to do with the problem. I can't even try to download it manually now, since I don't have enough space. What is this Manifest Cache? How do I fix this?

A:Manifest Cache

Welcome
YOu do not want to remove the manifest. Here is an explanation
.EXE.manifest
Although it can be deleted, I would not try before using some of the methods shown below to solve the problem.

http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/0...pace-in-vista/
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...reg_R1002_USEN

Download and run Ccleaner, do not check any registry entries, and a lot of space will be made available.
http://www.piriform.com/

This will also make space available
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/index...s&showfile=187

To make sure that the problems are not caused by outside malware
Run a full anti virus scan
Download and run a full and updated scan with malwarebytes.

You may, also, want to unistall programs that are no longer in use.

What is the error number, when you try to download?

Well, I was pointlessly and randomly looking through my system32 folder, and I noticed a file that was hidden (I have it so I view hidden folders, so it kinda stood out from the others), and I noticed the last part of its name was .manifest. I don't think any of the .manifest files I've found have been activated, because my computer is still alive and moveing normally-ish, but here's a list of the 7 manifest files I have found:cdplayer.exe.manifestlogonui.exe.manifestncpa.cpl.manifestnwc.cpl.manifestsapi.cpl.manifestwindowslogon.manifestwuaucpl.cpl.manifestI skimmed this thread here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/lof....php/t8139.html, but it said something about restarting your computer will make the fix not work, as the files would have changed, so I do not believe it would work good for me. I'm on Windows XP home, 2002 edition, on a Compaq computer (original OS for the computer). And, of course, SP2 updated.

Hey guys, long time reader but first time poster.

Always had SP1 fail to install, so this weekend i decided to look into a bit more and try and sort it.
Ran SFC and got the following error

2011-11-12 17:06:32, Info CSI 00000314 [SR] Cannot verify component files for Microsoft-Windows-Font-TrueType-Narkisim, Version = 6.1.7600.16385, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral, manifest is damaged (TRUE)

I have tried uninstalling the the font mentioned and reinstalling from my installation disc, i have ran a disk scan and a virus check but it keeps showing up??
The other odd thing is i'm running an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 not AMD??

Have you guys got any suggestions?

Hello forum.

I just got a new computer a few days ago, and just began updates. However, the two updates that I can't complete for ___ error is the Windows Service Pack 1 update and the security update for windows 7 for x64 - based systems.

The errors I continually get (I've pressed try again at least 20 times) are two errors: Windows help says that a file is corrupted, or something along those lines.

Do forgive me, but I don't remember the exact file name, but I downloaded the ~300 Mb file off of the Windows 7 help site, which scans your computer or something, and eventually you have to check the SUR file....

Here's the log.

Hi Noel and members,

This appears to be an older thread, but I hope this still gets to people - I've been trying to fix the errors shown in the CheckSUR log. I have not been able to find the files listed on any other system. Does anyone happen to have these files?

I downloaded the update, but Windows says it is already installed. Oddly enough, it's not in the list of installed updates. I think the best approach would be the one Noel outlined - however, I would need to be able to find the files. That seems to be the issue. Thanks for everyone's help!

- Gordon

Whenever I try to drag and drop files from one of my music folders to my "removable disk" (mini mp3 player), i get this error message: Cannot copy >file<: cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name. This used to work...so I have no idea what is going on with it. Could someone give me a heads up as to what the crap is going on?
Thank you!

Hi. I'm getting errors when trying to do a Windows update to service pack 1 (Windows 7).

I've run CheckSUR, and it seems to be complaining about:

"amd64_microsoft-windows-ieframe_31bf3856ad364e35_8.0.7600.20651_none_dbf7b4b157dae956.manifest"

I've attached a zip file with both the checksur.log and the cbs.log.

I've tried looking in my Windows7 DVD for the file (ie. viewing the "D:\sources\install.wim\2\Windows\winsxs\" archive using 7zip). But that file doesn't exist there.

I'm out of ideas what to try next.

Thank you for any help with this,
Dan

I did a routine 'sfc/scannow' in an admin window.

Then I filtered to get the relevant info...here are the only 2 NON-successful lines:

and at the end, the log says:

2016-05-10 08:18:41, Info CSI 0000540d [SR] Verify and Repair Transaction completed. All files and registry keys listed in this transaction have been successfully repaired

So, are these 'manifest damaged' entries something to worry about?

Found a virus running on my system. Some sort of manifest.json javascript based virus. Manuallly removed it to the best of my ability. I don't know what it was, so I posted in the other forum to try to get help with that. See this post for more details on what I found and did.

My system seems to be normal... but I am wondering if I am actually clean now.

Hi everyone,

I have gotten this bizare trojan that will not got away, I have formated windows completaly 3 times but I notice that the folder X: Boot is always in the options if I try to load drivers to the Hard drive before installing windows. There are SVhosts running ate over 100,000 K and all my processes are high. I see changes in the screen sometimes, like flashes and the mouse moves a little. I have a multiple TCP connections listening, and other ports which I have closed, like Interface toredo and InaSat.. Before I formated the first time, the program or person created users to block my files but I managed to recover them and also some logs that were left there, I will post just one now unless I get asked to post others.. I am aware that I have been recorded since there was a program called Recorded TV which was saving to a temp root folder and I believe the output site is the one in the log. I really dont know what else to do, I have formated 3 times, used adaware, avg, spybot, tried deleting manually, but so many services and processes come up and suddenly when I almost done it shuts off my laptop. All files are saved under windows names. Help! Well I dont know how but he has deleted the best log I had which said the name of it was Manifest something, I researched it but it says it was created in 2002, this is way more advance.. and the website it was rooting to.

I working on a client's machine attempting to install SP1.

As per the attached CheckSUR log - two manifest files are empty and I get the error msg - CSI Manifest Zero Length.

There is a third manifest with a similar name - see attached png for list. The 16385 file is good - 16597 and 20717 are empty.

Here are the contents of the 16385:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<assembly xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v3" manifestVersion="1.0" description=".NET Framework component" displayName=".NET Framework mscorlib.Resources" copyright="Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation. All Rights Reserved." isolated="false">
<assemblyIdentity name="mscorlib.Resources" version="6.1.7600.16385" processorArchitecture="msil" language="en-us" publicKeyToken="b77a5c561934e089" />
</assembly>

I cloned the 16385 twice changing the version number to match that of the other two files (16597 & 20717) and put the new files in the C:/windows/temp/checksur/winsxs/Manifests folder but then I got the error "CSI Located Replacement: Invalid (Catalog)" error in the Checksum log.

After running Checksum SP1 install fails with the error code 80073712.

In looking at other posts I'm hoping that someone can provide me with accurate versions of my two empty manifest files.

Thanks so much in advance! This is driving me crazy!!!

Hello again

I've uploaded a file - ptbaa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder ptbaa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be one folder inside it (Manifests)

Copy the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

Hi there,

Been having some issues with Windows Update, especially when it comes to trying to install SP1 (64 bit) on my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 machine. I've downloaded the latest (Aug. 2011) System Update Readiness tool, which has shown be that two manifests are corrupted and showing all zeros.

I've tried typical things such as resetting Windows Update, etc. however nothing has fixed it so far. I have a few friends in the house (shared student house) also on Windows 7, so thought about copying the files off their machine and replacing the corrupted ones on mine, however the files were non-existent on their machines.

Here is a copy of the CheckSUR.log file:

Hi all,

My ultimate goal is to install the Windows 7 Platform update which right now fails.

SFC /scannow reports corrupt files unable to fix.
WindowsUpdateDiagnostic tool, it reports Update error 80073712 as not fixed.
I also run the system upgrade readiness tool.

The logs indicate a problem with the XPS files (which can't be repaired due to missing manifests). Disabling XPS in 'Turn Windows Feature On/Off' has not helped.

I have attached the CBS and CheckSUR logs. Hoping somebody can help - how do I repair files when I don't have the repair files/manifests??

A:Update error 80073712 / missing XPS manifest files

Hi Uwajimaya,

You will need to run these steps to fix the issue:

Close all programs, and then restart your computer.
Insert the Windows DVD into the computer's disk drive. Wait for Setup to start. If Setup doesn't start automatically, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then type Drive:\setup.exe in the search box, where Drive is the letter of your computer's DVD drive (for example, D:\setup.exe).
In the Programs list, click Setup.exe.

Click Install Now.
Click Go online to obtain the latest updates for installation (recommended).
If you're asked for it, type the Windows Product key.
In the Which kind of installation do you want? window, click Upgrade.
When the installation is complete, restart your computer, and then run Windows Update.
Cheers and hope this helps!

Any assistance will be very greatly appreciated.

I have seen instructions on the net for getting Hyper V up and running where I can create a new XP Mode VHD file, but, I would like to copy my own file from my Win 7 Pro machine (because it contains the key XP software that I want to keep running for another year or two).

Replacing that old software should probably be Plan "A" but it's only Plan "B" at this point (or possibly Plan "C").

hello,
i think my windows and hdd are going to crash soon. i want to back up my files. but i could not. i could not copy the files as they are taking a awful lot of time. and sometimes it just stops copying and my pc freezes. what can i do?
I am using windows 7.

A:cannot copy file

Go here to download Ubuntu 10.04 ( There is a newer version, but I am going by my existing setup, so follow along and choose 10.04 ) http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/10.04/ Save the iso file.

Then download ImgBurn from here: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

Install ImgBurn and run it.

Choose "Write Image to Disc"

At the top of the Imgburn window, where it says "Source" click on the folder with maginfying glass icon; Then navigate to where you saved the ISO file.

Then click on the bottom area of the window depicting hd write to CD.

That should create the CD.

Now you want to boot with the CD on your PC. Check your BIOS so that it chooses to boot using the CD first. You are looking for the Boot menu, boot priority, or something along that line.

Once you boot into Ubuntu, pull down the Places pull down menu. Choose the ## GB Filesystem. That would be your hard drive. You will be able to see all folders in your drive. Now copy off the files you want to a USB memory stick.

A Lexar technician went through various operations and tests (including reformatting) with me and his conclusion is that one or more of the files is/are corrupted. (We tried to copy the folder to my C drive and got the same error message.)

There are a lot of sub-folders and I suppose I could go through one by one and find which ones won't copy but is there a simpler way of locating the file(s) that are corrupted and correcting them?

Thanks so much!

A:Cannot copy file

Well, I don't know about a "much simpler way", but you don't have to go thru one by one. Basically, you can select half of the folders >copy and paste > if it goes thru fine, then it's not in that half.

So you're left with the "other" half, just select half of that...well, you get the picture.

That's basically what I did when I was trying to locate a corrupted video file. It didn't take too long.

I have run into a few files lately that just won't move
from one place to another. It doesnt matter wether its from one drive to another, NTFS to fat32 or the other way
around, from usb to ide, ide to usb, etc, it just won't
allow the file to be copied. Makes me wonder how I got the file in the first place. I tried zipping the file using
winrar and that failed. I'm running win xp pro with sp1.
I also tried closing zone alarm and my avirus prog, still
no go.

Can anyone help me with info on how to move this file?
Not only that but i find its always a problem when moving a bunch of progs\files from one place to another. One or 2 files wont copy over. Sometimes a reboot will fix the problem, other times it won't.

I always check and make sure the files aren't "read only" so that isn't the issue. I am really getting frustrated with this problem and would appreciate any help.

Thank you

When I try to copy an Outlook .pst file, I get this error message.."The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file."

The file is set for file sharing and other files (in other directories) can be copied. The program is not being used and I checked msconfig to see if it was resident. It is not.

Any ideas?

I have a backup script I created using Robocopy to always keep a fresh backup of some of my most important data but just noticed one of my files fails to be copied to my backup disk.

The file in question is a executable file called LTL.exe and is a small utility that is part of a scenery add-on product for Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

I've also tried copy this file manually in Explorer by right-clicking the file and then choosing Copy-Paste and although I don't get any error message doing this and the copy process seems to be successful the file never ends up at the destination.

I'm running Win 7 x64 Ultimate and I have UAC disabled (not that it should be important since I'm not trying to copy the file into a system folder) and I'm local administrator on my PC. I've also tried taking ownership of this specific file and double and triple-checking I have full control for this specific file looking at the security tab.

If I launch the file in it's original location the utility starts up just fine so the file doesn't seem to be corrupt.

I've also scanned both this file and my complete PC for viruses both using Avast! and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and all is good...not a trace of any viruses.

Many thanks in advance for what could cause this, never seen this before!!

Editied to add I did another test, tried copying the file within the same physical disk and that went fine so that makes me wonder if I'm facing some weird kind of copy protection here not allowing me to cop... Read more

A:Can't copy a file

My thought was copy protection. Try via command prompt. But I bet it doesn't go.

Edit: the way to back it up for disaster avoidance is to make an image of the disk partition. Macrium Reflect Free is good. There are other free imaging programs. Look on http://www.thefreecountry.com/

Although I can copy small files from my Win7 machine to my wife's XP, copying larger files consistently results in the error: 'There is a problem accessing (the particular target dir) Make sure you are connected and try again"

Anyone know what could be causing this problem?

Mark

A:Copy file to XP

Hi, this problem is probably caused by an inconsistent WiFi connection.

It could be on either computer.

Make sure the network drivers are are all completely upto date on both of your PCs and then try again.

Post back with any results.

Oli

Here is my problem

My previous OS was Win 98. My HD was 80 Gb partitioned in to the following C: 20Gb, D: E: F: G: H: I: 10Gb each.

I formatted C: in NTFS and clean installed XP pro.
All the other partitions are FAT32.

I am trying to copy a 4Mb .exe file from a CD-r onto one of the partitions, but I keep getting an error message

"Cannot copy file invalid MS-DOS function"

In explorer if I right click -> properties on any folder the folder attributes are set to Read Only. I set the attribute to Archive or remove the Read Only but this doesn't to work. The attribute is always reset to Read Only.

I log on as administrator but makes no difference.

I am new to Xp but this is doing my head in.

Any help would be appreciated.

I recently backed up a Microsoft Access file. I formatted my domputer and reinstalled all software. I am trying to copy the file back to it's source directory. I am getting this Error messeage. (Cyclic Redundancy Check) Is there another way to copy this file to where I need.

Thanks Tim

A:File Copy

A CRC problem means that either the original file was corrupt or the archived one is corrupt. You should always check the backup logs after you complete your backup. I think you might be out of luck.

I recently purchased a used computer, running windows 98. I would like to know how to copy files from my old computer hard drive, also running windows
98.

A:file copy

Hi and welcome. Easiest way would be to slave the other hard drive to the computer where you wish to transfer files.

Friends: Somehow my favourite screensaver got deleted and I am trying to copy it from another PC. I copied the .SCR file from this PC to a floppy, but when I try to copy this file onto the System32 directory I keep getting the message it cannot be copied. Any ideas how I can fix this? The website I got the screensaver from is no longer available. Windows XP Pro. Thanks for any help.

A:Cannot copy .SCR file

The only thing I can think of is permissions. Are you trying to do this from an admin account and do you have any security software that might be blocking system folders from access?

Also, can you copy it off the floppy somewhere else first like your documents, and then try moving it to System32?

i am santosh. i want to copy a photo wich is in gif format. i had paste on word document from internet but image does not there. it gives message unavalable link.
please can anyone tell me can i copy these type of file to my hdd.
thanks

A:gif file copy

Right click on the image and do a "save as" to your hard disk. You can import that image into Word.

FWIW, I just right clicked on a graphic on a web page and selected "copy" from the drop-down menu, I was able to paste that image into a Word 2007 document.
