DHCP error 1075

Q: DHCP error 1075

The full message is error 1075: The dependancy service either does not exist or has been marked for deletion

This started with a tidserv!inf infection. Norton End-Point seems to have deleted all related virus infections, however, I am now unable to start the DHCP service. I have to set a static IP in order to connect to the internet.

I believe tdx.dll was identified as a virus and deleted. it was listed as a dependancy of dhcp but had no descriptor. Currently it is not listed as a dependancy.

I cannot view network shares from this PC nor can I view shares that I host here on other PC's. Only this computer shows up in net places.

I did an sfc /scannow and it told me audiodev.dll and mofd.dll were corrupted and the files in the store have been corrupted.

I had to take ownership with the admin group in order to replace them with extracted copies from my windows cd, but I when I went back to reassign trustedinstaller as the owner it was not listed as an option.

my cd is without service pack and my installed service pack is sp2.

can anyone be of assistance.

A: DHCP error 1075

My dhcp was working for a day but its back down again. i dont know how to recreate the dependancy on tdx

DHCP error 1075--can not start the DHCP client on local computer.Dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion..

Hi thanks for any help you can give.
Machine is a Dell dimension e520
Win XP Media center edition SP 2

I have the original dell discs and access to a working laptop also running win XP [this one]

During a routine virus scan by avira anti vir it quarentined c:\windowes\system32\drivers\netby.sys.

This disabled the DHCP client so no IP traffic
I restored the file but still no luck

After trying to renew the IP and some searching around I found that the HKEY local machine system currentcontrolset services NETbt registry key is missing

In services DHCP cannot be restarted --gives the warning above.
AFD and TCP/IP are in device manager -non plug & play show hidden devices NETbt is not

Can the registry be repaired from the original discs without having to reinstall everything else?
Or is it as easy as inserting the missing registry key?

Thanks Bob

Hello all,

I've noticed that a few people have posted concerning this topic, so I've tried to read up on as many possible solutions before posting. I'm recently recovering from a mild virus infection on my computer, and noticed that after I had run Avast! and Malwarebytes to remove the virus, my computer lost its internet functionality. Upon running ipconfig in command prompt, I noticed that the computer was not being assigned an IP address, which lead me to believe there could be an issue with DHCP.

When running services.msc, I notice that both DHCP client and TCP/IP netbios are not running, and when I try to run them, I get an error 1075, that the files are "either non-existent or marked for deletion". I noticed that someone else had posted a very similar problem, but a few of the more advanced fixes seemed specifically tailored for their issue.

Below are the fixes I've attempted thus far -

1. Checked the registry for DHCP?s dependencies (3 are listed, Afd, Tcpip, and NetBT).
2. Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults by typing ?netsh int ip reset reset.log? into command prompt.
3. Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults by typing ?netsh winsock reset catalog? into command prompt.
4. Ran ?sfc /scannow? with an XP SP3 CD.

I'm currently running Windows XP Media Center, Service Pack 3 on a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop I had purchased in mid-2006.

Greetings,
I am having a major DHCP error on my girlfriend's laptop. I am primarily a Linux user so I'm kinda lost here as her machine is running XP. It's a Dell XPS M1210 which, conveniently, did not come with a recovery CD or even partition.
Anyway, a few weeks ago her wireless network device stopped working. It would look like it was connecting, but it would hang on "Acquiring network address." At first I thought maybe the device was shot, until I had the chance to test out the wired ethernet, which has the same problem.
After quite a bit of googling, I ran services.msc, and saw that DHCP is not running. When I try to start it from that menu, however, I get this message: "Could not start the DHCP Client service on Local computer. Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion."
After more googling, I discovered that DHCP has only 3 dependencies: TCP/IP, AFD, and NetBt. I checked the registry, and those were the only ones listed.
After even more googling, I ran devmgmt.msc and selected "show hidden devices" and double clicked on "non plug and play devices." I TCP/IP and AFD are both there. NetBt, however, is not.
I've spent hours doing further googling and tried pretty much every fix I could find and nothing seems to work. If the PC had shipped with a recovery CD I imagine this would be easy to fix but alas no luck. I need to get this working so I can set up my new internets and I... Read more

I have read through the original thread (now closed) and tried all it's suggestions. However, I am still having the same IP (on lack of) issues. I ended my efforts with the running of SFC /SCANNOW which took a considerable amount of time, but resulted in no errors of any kind.

I continue to get the Error 1075: the dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion, message when trying to start the DHCP Client.

I'm afraid searching the suggested logs for the dependency items it a little over my head.

A little background for my situation. The computer in question is my teenage daughters. A week ago she started having problems with the internet and I'm assuming this is some sort of virus. Whenever selecting a website to launch to, something intervenes and chooses some alternate website. Never the same one twice. I loaded AVAST free version and did a scan. I also updated Malware Bytes and did another scan. I then loaded Kaspersky TDDS killer and did a scan with that. After all that, and roughly 15 files quarantined and deleted, I now have this IP problem. I cannot restore the computer back to an earlier time.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

My computer (vista) was infected with a virus. So I first used rkill/iexplore then ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware since my protection (Panda) doesn't seem to do its job correctly. The first time I did this, everything seemed to return to normal. Couple of days later, the same virus started up. I redid what I did...and it seemed to work again...until I tried using the internet. (I think Malwarebytes deleted something in the registry?)

There was an error saying that "DHCP error 1075: The dependancy service either does not exist or has been marked for deletion". I googled this on my laptop and followed some of the instructions found online. None of it worked...

I went into device manager->hiddle files->non plug and play drivers:
There was a problem with these with the same code for them: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)
App Filter Plugin
NetMon Filter Plugin
Panda Net Driver [TDI Layer]
VSCore mferkdk

Finally, I have included the last three logs from Malwarebytes showing which files were deleted by the program.

Thank you for looking over this!!

Hey all!
I am really desperate. I've tried a few things that other people have posted here, especially Cookiegal and Lumpola but this issue persists.

I had a virus. I think I got rid of it. Avast scans and boot time scans and Super Anti Spyware and TDSS killer report all clear. However, the network shield of Avast and the Internet don't work.
Points to note:
1. In services, the DHCP and DNS cannot be started. I get the error 1075: service has been marked for deletion or one of it's dependancies are missing. (close to that)

I've checked the dependancies of both, and reinstated the ADF module in device manager after selecting the 'View Hidden' option.

A:DHCP Server Service -Error 1075 - not starting

2. I've tried deleting the winsock and winsock2 entries in the registry.
3. From the command prompt, SFC/scan now terminates at 82%. thrice.
4. I can see the network, both wired and wireless, I can connect, but it says I have limited connectivity.

Hello,

On July 12th 2012, my computer installed updates. After rebooting and waiting for me on the login screen, I gave it a hard shutdown to check on the BIOS settings (for a little side project, in the end I did not save any changes). After booting and logging in again, I find that many services are not running. I ran a very thorough check for malware and viruses (took over 24 hours to complete), and still no solutions. I have uninstalled/reinstalled my Broadcom 802.11g Wireless Driver several times.
I now look in the Event Viewer and find that the DHCP Client service is not running! It is set to automatic start in Services.msc, but when I try to manually start it, it gives me error 1075 (some dependencies do not exist or are marked for deletion). Running ipconfig, I notice that my system is using an APIPA-formatted address (169.254.x.x), indicating that the computer couldn't find a DHCP server.

My Event Viewer is peppered with:

A:Solved: DHCP client and TCPIP Netbios helper 1075 error

I was able to restart DHCP services by deleting the registry entry and rebooting. I went into the registry editor, located the DHCP subkey, right click on dependonservice and clicked on delete.
However TCPIP Netbios helper I could still not start, even after running sfc/scannow.
The solution for me was to restore the operating system to an earlier point in time. In windows xp, go to programs> accessories>disk utilities> system restore and follow the directions. I suppose I could have done that for both problems? At least I didn’t have to reinstall XP!

Anyway I can connect to internet now

Hello, lets do some cleaning up and see if that helps you out .
How to Flush DNS in Windows Using the Command Prompt

Step 1 ? Close all open web browsers and applications on your computer.

Step 2 ? Open the Windows command prompt by selecting the ?Start? menu and then go all programs, accessories, then right click command and run as admin.

Step 3 ? At the command prompt, enter ?ipconfig /flushdns? followed by pressing the ?enter? key. After a moment, Windows will display a message similar to: ?Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.? Once the message is displayed, the DNS will be flushed removing all incorrect entries.

Then , we want to get the IP reset, so, lets renew its settings and see if this also helps out :
you will type in the command box : ipconfig /release then enter, then next ipconfig /renew then enter, this will reset the IP , now restart and attempt to have it reconfigure its connections to your router. Post back results please.

DHCP and TCP/IP can not be started from Services with out the following error.

Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.

I've checked the dependencies and all are running.

AFD is the only driver common to both DHCP and TCP/IP so I assumed it is either not running or is corrupt..yet when I try to start AFD from the CMD prompt I get...."service is already running.

I have since disabled my Lan Connection via Network Connections as it just sits there trying to acquire ip without ever timing out.

I also performed a registry scan with Registry Booster in Safe Mode. It reported:

1061 System Errors
205 User Errors, and
1 Third Party Error

A cursory review of the log tells me the majority have to do with poorly uninstalled programs. I did NOT let Registry Booster fix anything.

Need help solving Error #1075 problem in conjunction with CheckPoint VPN NGX R60 HFA3. I am using a Dell E6510 laptop computer running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit OS. I can get this VPN to run and connect when I use Microsoft's XP virtual machine sitting on the Windows 7 desktop but I cannot get it to run on the Windows 7 desktop by itself.

Although the VPN seems to load without incident the associated icon "key" does not appear in the notification tray at the lower right. It does appear in the XP virtual machine and on a separate HP desk top running Vista.

When I type services.msc at the Win 7 command prompt I get a list of all the loaded services including the CheckPoint VPN. It is at this point when I try to start the VPN I get the 1075 error. When I check the dependencies under the VPN I find the "CheckPoint Office Mode Module" and the "VPN-1 Module".

How do I determine if these dependencies are causing the 1075 error message? What steps do I need to take to resolve the error message so the VPN will start?

Hopefully someone can help out. (Note: This is not the affected computer, the logs are from it, however) I am running Windows XP Home Edition, SP3. I thank you in advance for the help.

DHCP Client will not start from services menu and neither will TCP/IP all other networking services appear to be started and working.

DHCP dependencies are:

AFD Networking Support Environment
TCP/IP Protocol
IPSEC driver
TCP/IP dependencies are:
AFD

Since the TCP/IP's only dependency is AFD I suspect it has been deleted or corrupted. How do I go about fixing that?

My PC is three years old and has been a great machine. I run Windows XP Home Edition, I.E. 7 and have all the protection installed I can find.

Quite by accident I discovered my System Restore is not working. I don't need it at the moment (!!!) but I like everything to be as near as perfect as possible on my PC so I have been trying to discover what the SR problem is and how I can resolve it.

I keep getting the message "S R is not able to protect your computer. Please restart and run SR again"............This advice does not work. for me!
I cannot turn off SR for the same reason.

I then checked out this section of the forum and discovered that many people have had this same problem. I have tried downloading Kelly's file 238 (I think that was the number) ; I have tried accessing services.msc ; I have tried accessing i386: nothing!

I did get the message "Error 1075: "Dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion". This error seeems to apply to many facilities on a PC.

I have my windows XP disk but cannot lay my hands on the SP2 one so I don't want to mess about without your professional advice to do so!! (apologies!)

As I said, if you solve my problem you will be miracle workers and worthy of your wings.

My thanks for any help you can offer me.

A:System Restore Won't Work : Error 1075

Right click My Computer > Manage > Expand Event Viewer > Look under Application and/or System to see if there is any event reporting on about System Restore.

Please do let us know if there is, a screenshot would be a great help.

Another workaround would be searching for sr.inf, right click it and select "Install". You might need Window XP install disc.

This is my sister's netbook. The problems started with one of those new "fake antivirus" that puts up a ton of obviously fake results that claim your computer is highly infected*. She being... less technologically inclined apparently decided to run the "Antivirus scan" over and over again over night and then the next day gave it to me to try to figure out what was wrong. I can't find the links right now but I found a bunch of blogs that mentioned (Privacyprotection.exe) and among the most frustrating aspects what that it blocked pretty much everything from running. I did a bit of digging and eventually found out it was a rootkit causing the issues and the tools they gave me wouldn't run but I was able to follow the manual instructions. (remove the .exe, remove the alias, regedit and remove the key that matched privacyprotection.exe but not the other ones like the one underchrome etc). That took care of the major problem and I was able to get Microsoft Security Essentials running but everyscan kept turning up a few "Trojans" and that upon trying to clean would result in an error. The error would lead to 'restart to finish removel'. I tried safe mode and the same result. One top of that google results kept getting redirected (forget the site right now.. something like awesomesearch.com or what have you). I decided to try from another angle the redirect angle and found thishttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic422038.htmlI t... Read more

Hey Everyone.

Maybe someone could be of help. I have gone through several different forums and have attempted several ways to try to fix this but have had no luck.

I have tried the netsch winsock reset
I have tried the ipconfig /renew
My DNS service starts but my dchp client doesnt want to and gives me the error 1075.
I have removed NAV still nothing.

I have also tried many other alternatives but im just not remembering at the moment and I am just stumped.

Internet works on my other two computers, but my laptop is what seems to not want to connect wirelessly or routed. Something seems to be blocked or missing.

If anyone can please help me in any way possible it would greatly be appreciated. If you need me to provide some more details please let me know.

A:windows audio: error 1075 the dependency service does not exist or has

From your description there are many more problems than just the windows audio error.

I would suspect an Operating System problem. If you can find a friend to download the Windows 7 Home Premium ISO and burn it to a DVD, that would give you the needed disc to try and repair Windows. Although your DVD drive does not work in Windows, it should work for booting.

Here is the link to the forum post. There are links to the various versions. You can download the same version that you have.

Greetings,
I have several windows 8.1 machines connected to a private network.  The clients all obtain their first DHCP leases correctly and work well for a time. At some point after having been running for awhile, they get into a state where they start
ignoring the DHCP ACK messages from the DHCP server when they attempt to renew their leases (see attached pcap file).  They go on ignoring the responses to their DHCP Requests until they lose their IP addresses and then send a DHCP Discover and receive
a DHCP Offer.  At this point, they seem to accept their new address and move on until it is time to renew again, at which point they start ignoring their DHCP ACKs again and the cycle continues.  These machines will work for hours with no problems
whatsoever, but they all seem to experience this issue at some point every day.  When they get into the state where they are ignoring their DHCP acks, they will stay that way until they are rebooted.  Disabling and then re-enabling the adapter does
not seem to fix the issue.
Does anyone have any idea what could be going on?  I'm pretty stumped at this point.

Thank you,
  Jason

I'm running a simple network at home with a Linksys BEFSR41 router. I have two computers hooked up wired and a wireless router acting like an access point that I use for my laptop occasionally. Until this weekend I've been having no problems but I shut down the computers due to weather and now one of them is not able to communicate with any others on the network. The problem computer will get an address supplied to it by the router (DHCP server) but once it has it I cannot get any other connectivity. Of course this is hindering internet access on this computer. I can ping the loopback and assigned IP addresses w/o problems but when I ping the default gateway (router) and/or the other computer I get "Request timed out." I initially thought it was the NIC so I bought another one but still get the same issue. I've moved the cards to different PCI slots but no luck. I tested the cable running from the computer and the router but found no problems. I even tried resetting the TCP/IP stack but still didn't work. The computer in question is running WinXP SP2 with the original NIC being a Linksys LNE100TX and the new one being a D-Link DFE-530TX+.

Any clues on this? If more info is needed let me know--it's been a while since I've posted. Thanks in advance.

Ok I have a client computer that will only connect to the internet using a static ip address no matter what I do. The main problem I have is that when I go into the services menu and attempt to start the DHCP Client I get the Error 1608: The dependency service or group failed to start. It seems to be the only thing that is not running that should be. It is a Windows XP machine with SP2, is there something else that could be running that would not let that service run?

A:Error 1608 DHCP

In the services click on DHCP client andright click on properties this will give yo ua dependancies tab in there you should see the other things you can troubleshoot to try and get the DCHP Client service to start. I'ld also look at your Event viewer. Also remember your DHCP Client service should be set to Automatic.

Background:
I've been having an issue on my system after installing and then removing Jetico Personal Firewall.  It completely screwed up my network connection.

Environment:
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1

I've searched all over the net and tried various fixes, including many from this site:

DHCP Client - "Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified" when I try to start it in the Services.  All dependencies are there: AFD, Tdx (NetIO), Network Store Interface Service.

I've tried sfc /scannow and came up clean.

netsh int ip reset C:\reset.log

netsh winsock reset catalog

Added permissions to registry keys for dhcp and tcpip.

Device Manager (show hidden) has AFD, tdx, NSI all running and set to start at boot.

Restore points are gone, so not a possible solution.

Thanks in advance!

Have not been able to get automatic IP on LAN because DHCP won't start .
The error message when trying to restart DHCP is :
"Windows was unable to restart DHCP Client service . Error 5 : Access Denied."
I am able to connect to the internet with a static IP .
I have no restoration points on my computer .

This is what I have tried so far -->

The usual commands :

ipconfig /flushdnsnetsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txtnetsh winsock reset catalognetsh int tcp set heuristics disablednetsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disablednetsh int tcp set global rss=enabledipconfig / releaseipconfig /renew
I have , of course , contacted my ISP and they have found nothing wrong on their side (or in the router) .
I have also uninstalled / reinstalled my network adaptor .

Have also tried modifying the registry by assigning permissions at :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCP\
Now digging deeper , I set the command :
CMD /K SC QC DHCP
This was what I got (note the system is in Spanish) :
TIPO_INICIO : 2 AUTO_START
CONTROL_ERROR : 1 NORMAL
NOMBRE_RUTA_BINARIO : C:\Windows\system32\svchlst.exe -k LocalServiceNetworkRestricted
GRUPO_ORDEN_CARGA : TDI
ETIQUETA : 0
NOMBRE_MOSTRAR : Cliente DHCP
DEPENDENCIAS : MSI

NOMBRE_INICIO_SERVICIO : NT Authority\LocalService

Any ideas? ,
Thanks .

I am looking at the Event Viewer log for a small LAN with a DHCP Server (Windows 2000 Server, svc pack 3)

The event error is 1014, and the DHCP server had quit assigning leases to about half the clients, and hence the generated error messages. (I rebooted the server and it came back up immediately.) My question is this: the errors read:

DHCP Event 1014.
The JET Database call returned the following error : -529. Additonal Debug Information: DeleteCurrentRecordelete.

alternating with:

DHCP Event 1014.
The JET Database call returned the following error : -529. Additonal Debug Information: DhcpJetCommitUpdate.

I can't find an explanation for those specific messages. I CAN find documentation for two other DHCP error messages below (I am NOT getting these messages):

First one:

DHCP Event 1014.
The JET database call returned the following error with a hex data
status of “ff fd ff ff (0xfffffdff=-513)”

(meaning the dhcp.mdb file is full - more hard drive space needs to be allocated)

and second one:

Event ID: 1014
Source: DhcpServer
Description: The Jet database returned the following Error: –510 (or –1022 or –1850)

(meaning that the dhcp.mdb file is corrupted and is usually caused by power failures and bad hard drives, or "curious users who try to open (it) using Microsoft Access.")

I am getting a different error message, however this server DOES have very little space left on C: drive, and I suppose it is always possible there was a short power outage... Read more

Okay, I got a new client a few weeks ago. What a mess...anyway, they had bought a new Dell with SBS 2K3 on it, and for some reason they have a wired firewall (Linksys), a wireless router (Linksys) and a small switch. After examining the setup of the network, I found the wireless router giving out IP addresses in the 192.168.1.X range, the SBS being what it is, was going to be the DNS/DHCP/DC, on and on, etc. I turned off the DHCP on the wireless router. Yesterday they called and had a machine that I wasn't aware of that couldn't connect, it's a proprietary machine for X-Rays, and all I could do was really look at it, and do a few things, like change the IP if needed, but it's set to DHCP, and it's getting 192.168.1.X addressing, when umm, it can't be. I did ipconfig /release then /renew, nothing, still the old address, with 192.168.1.1 as the DCHP and gateway. I statically set it to the 192.168.0.X settings and nothing, can't ping in or out or see the network. I set it back to DCHP reboot, and it still gets 192.168.1.X address, but there is no DHCP server serving up these address, so ummm, anyone? Oh, the X-Ray comp is plugged directly into the firewall now wich is on the 192.168.0.X network on the inside.......

QUESTION #1:
Is it better to use Win2000 Server DHCP or DHCP from my Netgear wireless router?

#1 BACKGROUND:
I am currently in the process of setting up a Win2000 server on my home network which consists of four other 2000/XP machines.
The server is going to be configured as a domain controller and will utilize the Active Directory.

Should I use the Win2000 Server DHCP or stick with my wireless router as the DHCP server? What are the advantages/disadvantages to both and which would be easier to maintain.

QUESTION #2
Is a 550mhz PIII with 256MB RAM fast enough to make a good home server running Win2000 server?

BACKGROUND #2
The server is going to have (2) 120GB Western Digital 7200rpm drives with 8MB cache for storage and a single 60GB Western Digital 7200rpm drive for the OS and few other applications.

The server's primary function is to serve as a media server with an approaching 10GB of MP3 and music video files which is continually going to grow. Disk contention is at a minimum since there are only four PC's on the network. There will also be a lot of digital photos stored on the server and will also serve as a place to perform backups from the other four networked PC's.

A:Win2000 Server DHCP or Router DHCP?

We have a similar setup in our office using Small Business Server, a public IP coming into our router with DHCP turned on, connected to a NIC in the internal DHCP server (which is also running ISA). A second NIC in the server bridges to the internal hub to provide DHCP services to the clients. This way we control port filtering in 2 places and with 2 levels of NAT taking place we feel secure. It may be overkill but we're concerned that EVERYONE is trying to hack into ISA and DHCP servers connected directly to public IP that this setup provides an added level of security.

Hi,
My old hard disk was dead so bought a new hard disk drive of 500gb, when i tried to install windows xp on the new hard disk the cd didn't boot as it used to do first, it gives out an error during boot "PXE-E51: No DHCP or proxy DHCP offers were received please enter bootable device and press any key". Thanks in advance.

A:PXE-E51: No DHCP or proxy DHCP offers were received

Any message such as this referencing 'PXE" are likely indications that you need to adjust the boot device settings in the BIOS.  The message indicates that the system is currently trying to boot via network, rather than boot to an optical drive or a hard drive.

If you want to boot from a CD to install XP, then the first boot option in the BIOS must be changed to an optical drive.

If you want to boot from the hard drive, then the first boot device should be changed to reflect the hard drive as the first option.

What makes you think that your old hard drive was dead?

These PXE errors are often the result of the fact that the CMOS battery is dying or is dead and needs to be replaced.  Since this is a vital but cheap item easily obtained, this is not a serious problem.

My WinXP Home PC won't connect properly (limited connectivity/no internet) via ethernet cable to my router (Belkin N150).

Ipconfig /all shows the IP address as 169.254.117.71 but this is determined by an entry in the registry at HLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{39A...} > 'DhcpIPAddress' - REG_SZ - 169.254.117.71. Also listed at 'IPAutoconfigurationAddress'. My laptop connects fine plugged into the same port getting it's IP automatically (192.168.2.2) and getting internet fine.

After much searching I can't figure out what's wrong.

I've tried adding a DWORD entry 'IPAutoconfigurationEnabled' = 0, also tried deleting the 2 values.
Tried setting the IP manually to 192.168.2.6 - limited connectivity goes away but I get no internet connection from the router nor file sharing.

Any help please?

I'm at my wit's end. I just bought the damned thing, and it refuses to connect! It tells me either the WEP key is wrong, or DHCP is disabled, neither of which is true. I've tried entering all my info manually(finding it in ipconfig), to no avail. There must be something else I can do? I really need to get this thing working.

I'm running windows XP, have a Belkin Wireless G Plus router, and my ISP is Cox.net.

Good Afternoon,

My internet recently went out on me and I spent hours on the phone with Charter. They have tried telling me it is an equipment issue on my end. However, i tested my computer out elsewhere and had no problems.

My computer is stuck on the same IP address 169.254. (do not recall the entire IP) and i been told this is a bad address. When I try to renew the IP address ipconfig /renew

it will come back saying unable to contact your DHCP server.

I had a tech from the cable company come out yesterday and was unsuccessful. I have another tech coming out today but have my doubts the issue will be resolved.

Has anyone have this issue before?

I wish I could provide more information but I only have one computer at home and w/o having internet can not provide screen shots and such.

I have a Dlink cable modem (purchased it 01/07)

Thanks,

I've searched through here a bit and it seems like others have had this problem, hoping I can find a solution.

Recently bought a new machine after my old computer's motherboard died. HP desktop running Vista Home Premium, 3GB ram, 3 ghz processor. Networking was working fine at home, and I was actually enjoying the whole experience more than I expected coming into Vista. Yesterday I took the computer to a LAN party, and as soon as I got there the problems began.

On startup at the LAN party, I noticed that the network connection icon had the red x, and said network status unknown. After about an hour of searching around, I found that the issue stemmed from the DHCP Service's inability to start properly. (Also, ironically, the system event viewer service is unable to start as well, which restricts me from viewing the error log, as far as I can tell.)

Some system info I've seen requested before related to this problem:

Hi. I can't get both my laptops to connect to the internet, one of which is brand new. It revolves around the usual case of unidentified network/local access only and i have since done the ipconfig/all deed in cmd only to see that there is absolutely no mention of DHCP Servers' address. DNS Servers yes, but not DHCP.

My DHCP is 'enabled' under Wireless/LAN but isn't under Ethernet. My IPv4 address begins with 169.254.x.x which to my understanding is pretty much a bogus IP and i can only dream of ever going online with it. How do i enable/search/hunt/prey on my DHCP? How do i get the DHCP Servers line to appear after DNS Servers in ipconfig?

I of course am unable to post online the ipconfig results using my laptop but if anyone is willing to help i will type them out. Would really appreciate a lifeline of any sort, this has been going on for too long. I am using a wireless network if it matters. I'm currently staying in a dorm so there's not much i know of (or can do) about an adapter etc. It is also said that we would be switching to ethernet at the end of the month - does this mean, with my DHCP enabled a 'No' under ethernet, that i would have problems going online?

What can i do?

Thanks in advance

Hello again! I've encountered a new problem that I'm having trouble fixing if you need me to do the zip and all that let me know and I'll work on it but it's pretty specific to this. Even so more info is good so let me know if you need it.

The crashes occur while using FTP to transfer files to anything within my network. I'm currently using FireFox's FireFTP program to do so. I am able to connect to my server but unable to transfer anything since as soon as I do that's when my computer crashes. I looked through the event logs and found this following message:

The IP address lease 192.168.1.2 for the Network Card with network address 0x001A70A37011 has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.1.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).

Apparently this causes a critical error and I get that weird no BSOD but can't do anything type of crash. If anyone can help me out I'd much appreciate it thanks.

A:DHCP-Client Error causes Crash

How many computers are on your network? Set them all to static IPs starting from 192.168.1.2 and going up (192.168.1.3 etc...) and see if it makes a difference.

Sorry, I already posted this once before, but in retrospect it seems like something I should have posted here (instead of hardware), so I'm trying again.

My Zipit instant messenger won't connect to my wireless router. The instant messenger itself says that it's because of a DHCP error, and goes on to suggest that my WEP key is wrong (it isn't), or that DHCP isn't enabled (it is). The manual further goes on to suggest that the SSID is wrong (it's not) or that the DHCP server is providing incorrect information.

Now, this last one, I have no idea how to check that it's providing correct informatnion, so I have no idea if that's the problem, or how to fix it if it is. When I manually enter my settings into the messenger (IP address, Netmask, Gateway, DNS) I get either a DNS error or the same DHCP error. Either way, it still prevents me from connecting with the Zipit.

Is any more information required? Also, how do I find out my DNS? When I check through ipconfig, and use the DNS that provides, it still gives me errors. BTW, I'm running Windows XP, have a Belkin Wireless G Plus router, and my ISP Is Cox HSI.

I got this error message after my system took itself off my dhcp server. I was online when this happened and evertything was charlie-charlie prior. DHCP client but after each try, it stops automatically. I'v restarted, I'v sfc/scannow. I'v tried restoring but realised i dont have restore points. i'v tried repairing with my OS cd but realised vista's repairing isnt like xp (it doesnt actually recopy the system files).
The network connectivity icon is blinking ok but it cannot read the domain name of my network. In the network and sharing centre, the status is "Identifying... (Public network)". In the Local Area Network Status, Packets are being sent but not received. I think I should be able to browse if i assign ip address manually but i would like to correct this error.
Right now, I am out of ideas.

Hey guys! I've been scouring the net to see if anyone has a solution to my problem but as of yet, found nothing, and decided to post my problem here.

I recently formatted my PC and reinstalled windows XP Pro SP3 and installed a new graphics card. Now when I play games or am browsing the web, occasionally I will lose connection for 30 seconds to a minute.

In the event viewer I see...

11:42:55
Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 001D7D98D4D0. The following error occurred:
The operation was canceled by the user. . Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.

11:43:29
Your computer has automatically configured the IP address for the Network Card with network address 001D7D98D4D0. The IP address being used is 169.254.80.6.

When it happens and I'm on the desktop, the little bubble comes up saying a network cable has been unplugged. Is this a problem with my NIC or the ethernet cable? I'm looking for clues here before I do anything costly...cheers.

Hello all,
Does anyone know why I get this error?

In the event viewer, it's Event #1010...and the text is:

I can't find an answer for this ANYWHERE, so if any of you know this, and how to fix it, consider yourself a flippin' GENIUS!
Thanks.

A:{Advice Offered} - DHCP Error

Event ID 1010: The DHCP server encountered the following error when cleaning up the user database: The system cannot find the file specified.

The above behavior is sympomatic of having replaced the Dhcp.mdb with an earlier version or if the DHCP scope is corrupted.

If you have a backup copy of Dhcp.mdb:

1. If the DHCP service is running, Stop it.

2. Delete %SystemRoot%\System32\Dhcp\Dhcp.mdb.

3. Place the Backup in %SystemRoot%\System32\Dhcp\Backup\Jet\<New folder>.

4. MOVE the backup to %SystemRoot%\System32\Dhcp.

5. Start the DHCP service.

If a backup is not available:

1. Record the scope settings and reservations, if possible.

2. If the DHCP service is running, Stop it.

3. Delete %SystemRoot%\System32\Dhcp\Dhcp.mdb. You will lose your reservations and lease information, but some scope settings will be restored from the registry.

4. Start the DHCP service.

5. In DHCP Manager, double-click the DHCP server and click the correct scope.

6. On the Scope menu, click Active Leases and click Reconcile, followed by OK.

7. In Server Properties, set Conflict Detection to 4 or higher and press OK.

8. If you find any bad addreses in the lease database, delete the bad address entries and Reconcile the database.

9. On a client, type ipconfig / release, followed by ipconfig / renew.

Hope this helps

I found a couple of topics from google, but nothing gave me a very good answer to what I should do next, so I thought maybe it's best to ask the question directly:

Currently my internet isn't working (at a friend's house using his), and when I try to use ipconfig /release then /renew, it times out on me, saying: An error occured while renewing interface...: unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out.

I tried using the XP Help and Support Center and ran a Network Diagnostics, and it failed getting n IP address for the DefaultIPGateway, DNSServerSearchOrder and DHCPServer. It did however manage to find my IP Address (...Huh??)

I've tried restarting the DNS and DHCP and rebooting the computers repeatedly, but nothing seems to have worked, and I seem to be out of ideas. Can anyone shed some light on this matter?

Thanks a bunch.

Hello,

I am about to reference a closed post. I have a slightly similar situation(However, I'm not using someone else's router) to this gentleman's problem...http://forums.techguy.org/networking/857420-connected-router-no-internet-access.html

My ISP, for lack of a better term, is "wireless internet". Not like cell phone wireless. It is broadband, that they put a radio on your roof, and beam from towers. It's normally much better than Hughes net and definitely the best option for me out in the sticks. For the past couple weeks I've had page connection errors, and much more disappointing, disconnected from Xbox live...Now this problem is intermittent. One night I may play til my fingers bleed. Next night, 2 minutes in a match, sayonara baby.

The belkin router log says:
DHCP Client: [WAN] could not find DHCP daemon to get information
DHCP Client: [WAN] Send Discover
DHCP Client: [WAN] Send Discover
DHCP Client: [WAN] Send Discover

Now from what I gather from google searches it could be my isp or router. Though, I think I've eliminated the router issue. As I've taken and plugged my internet directly into a machine and had it drop connection on a few web pages. I've also tried a different router.

So I guess what I'm asking is what is my log file telling me there and how will I know if the fools from my ISP get it right at some point? Or perhaps there are some other settings I could make that would stabilize the problem so... Read more

A:Wireless Router/DHCP error

I suspect that the problem is somewhere between your ISP and the antenna on your roof. If the antenna is directional maybe it rotated a slight bit, or blows in the wind, or a tree limb sometime blows into the line-of-sight between you and the ISP. Or maybe the ISP just has issues.

I think you should discuss this with your ISP, but also be on the lookout for patterns, such as

Is it always colder when the problems occur?
Always windier?
Raining?
Etc.

The option number varies and length varies. I have routing running with two nics. Could someone please point me in a direction to research this error?

Thanks.

Hey all,

I have a simple network at home using winxp pro on both comps. I wish to use simple file sharing but am unable to do so. I have automatically configured IP addresses for both comps, and am able to ping using these ip addresses but cannot ping by comp name. both comps have addresses starting with 169.254.x.x indicating that the dhcp cannot issue a proper address, however when trying to release and/or renew the computer says that it has timed out before the request can be completed.

I have tried uninstalling the devices, rebooting and then reinstalling but the wizard falls short at the end claiming an error has occured.

The error according to admin tools is in the system section saying-

The device, \Device\Scsi\viamraid1, did not respond within the timeout period.

look forward to some responses! ...please!!!

regards,
Hrtbob

Hi.
I am running Windows XP Home SP3 on a Lenovo SL500.
The laptop suddenly stopped connecting to the internet (stuck on acquiring network address). Then suddenly sound stopped working (even though I have the correct drivers installed).
I have tried the following:
1) going to the previous working version - no luck
2) I went to services.msc and found the DHCP client won't start. When I try to force start it, it gives me error 1067. ipconfig gives an error saying "an internal error has occurred. the system cannot find the file specified". I have no idea what file this is. Also, in services.msc when I restart windows audio to get sound back, it starts and then stops again. I also noticed other services like Wireless Zero that should be running are stopped. When I turn them on, they stay on for a short while before stopping automatically.
3) I ran winsockxpfix.exe, sfc.exe /scannow - no luck
4) I did a registry clean - no luck
5) I did a repair install of Windows again and still no luck.
Does anyone have any clue what's wrong and how I can fix this? I don't want to have to format and do a fresh install if possible.
Thank You.

A:DHCP client will not start - error 1067

Try running these at a command prompt restarting after each to see if DHCP will start.  Make sure you have your XP CD handy for the second.
netsh winsock reset

sfc /scannow

Okay, so my Tablet PC which is running Windows Vista Ultimate is crashing a lot lately... about once or twice every few hours.

Explorer.exe crashes, then restarts eventually...
After it restarts and I look at the system log, it shows at the time of the crash, an error about the Dhcp-Client.
It says "The IP address lease <insert current IP> for the Network Card with network address <insert MAC ID> has been denied by the DHCP server <router IP address>. (The DHCP server sent a DHCPNACK message.)"

I'm not sure why, but every time I've gotten this error like this repetitively when explorer crashes, I've had to reload the OS to get it to act normally again.

I don't see why a DHCP error is crashing explorer.exe.
Anyone know anything about this?

A:Explorer.exe crashes, returns Dhcp-Client error

Do you have Norton or Symantec. What other security. This is a Ethernet error usually caused by what is called a SYMTDI dependency in the registry. If you remove that, DHCP will usually start normally. The starting range of the CHCP pool is off kilter. This has been often reported as caused by security software, most often Symantec.
Try changing your lease time to perhaps 60 minutes. Your machine will then be expected to renew its address every 30 minutes. You might also try changing your router address from 192.169.1.1 to something different, like 192.168.1.6 or other suggested by your router manual.
Be careful as it could be a sign that your network security has been compromised. Somebody could be trying remote code execution. Be certain all networks and patches are up to date, by checking for downloads. Do any users have incorrectly assigned rights? It could be a case of a hacker or stoopidity stopping DHCP Client Services and that blocks your system from signing in properly to the network.

Starting yesterday I haven't been able to connect to my network via Ethernet.

I'm using the onboard network adapter from my ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe mobo and Vista Ultimate 64 Bit. Under device manager my network adapter is NVIDIA nforce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet. That's a generic name, I checked my mobo specs and it's specifically a NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP. I have the latest driver which is 67.8.9.0. My router is a Linksys WRT54GSv4.

I want to use a dynamic address, I have a static IP set up on my wireless and that's working fine right now. But I can't connect using either of my Ethernet ports. I've switched ports on my router, but my 360 connects no problem so I don't think it's the router.

Our ISP just installed a DHCP server (we won't be using it, we have static IP address for internet). Our NT box has two NIC cards, one for local network, the other connected to our cable modem. It has DHCP server running for our local workstations to get their ip addresses. But it has been shutting down with an error message stating that "The DHCP server is shutting down because another DHCP server with IP address of 172.29.0.2 is active on the network." 172.29.0.2 is our ISP's new DHCP server. How can I get our server to ignore the ISP's DHCP server?

A:ISP DHCP shutting down internal DHCP

You need to make sure your ISP isn't trying to renew the DHCP lease and has your IP address excluded from their DHCP servers list of non static IP's. Sounds like their error and config problem not yours. Unless you haven't excluded your static addresses from your DHCP server pool.

It's been a month or two since this is occuring and I don't know why.
The internet randomly loses and even though the taskbar notification shows that I have an internet connection

When I try opening a web page (Google Chrome), it shows a DNS error (unable to... something)
When I try going to the router setup page (http://192.168.254.254), it shows an error (ERR_CONNECTION_TIME_OUT)

I also try using the cmd:
ping google.com - showing 'request time out' 100% loss
ipconfig /flushdns - successfully flushed the dns but internet is still not accessible
ipconfig /renew - it says that there was an error renewing... unable to contact DHCP server (?)

The only thing that I could fix this is that I will go to the network adapter settings (in the Network and Sharing Center) and disable the Qualcomm Atheros AR956x Wireless Adapter and re-enabling it again.

I think it maybe a driver issue. So, I try reinstalling the driver but still no luck.

So the only way I can temporary fix this is to on-off the driver. And it's pretty annoying especially when playing an online match and randomly disconnects.

This problem (losing the internet and using the same troubleshooting mentioned above) is sometimes occurring when I put my laptop into sleep and turning it back on again after an hour or so

Please help me. It is really a gratitude if anyone could help.

I am running into a problem where my machine keeps assigning an automatic private internet address rather than getting an address from DHCP. My computer seems to "see" the router (link light goes on and off when I plug/unplug the cable, the network indicator in the system tray goes live/dead), but it won't acquire an address, and I can't log into the router control panel when I type in the address of the router in a browser.

I don't want to lead anyone down the wrong path, but this error appears to have started after running Bootvis. The connection was running perfectly until I ran Bootvis. This is the second time I've had the problem -- I did a clean install of XP to fix the problem the first time. I think it also happened shortly after running Bootvis the first time, although I didn't put two and two together at the time and associate the problem with Bootvis (hence, completely reinstalling XP). After spending the better part of a weekend reinstalling and configuring XP, I'm hoping there's an "easier" way to fix it this time.

Here is what I've tried so far (all to no avail):

- Rebooted (several times)
- Unplugged/plugged/rebooted/reset/power cycled router (several times)
- "Repair" the network connection (under local area connection status)
- ipconfig /release, /flushdns, and /renew
- went to the Services manager and clicked "restart" on DHCP Client and DNS Client

FYI, the other computers on... Read more

Trying to create and deploy a Windows 7 pro image for Dell optiplex 390s. Getting the dreaded error above when trying to connect to the DHCP. After a couple days of research I've tried injecting drivers, different version of drivers, injecting drivers into
a different boot image, changing the name and/or deleting the setup.exe file from the image, verified that spanning-tree portfast was enabled on the switch, and edited \windows\system32\startnet.cmd. Everything i've tried results in the error still showing.
When running ipconfig it looks like the NIC is not even initializing which leads me to believe it's a driver issue still. I'm out of ideas on this one. Anyone else have any?

A:WdsClient: An error occurred while obtaining an IP address from the DHCP server

Yes, I agree that this seems to be a driver issue.
Please follow the steps below to find the correct NIC driver for the problematic clients and create a new boot image, then add the NIC drivers to the new boot image for a test.

Using XP w/SP2 & all the latest updates. What happens is randomly/occasionally (3-5 times a day) at no apparent timing interaction with any other programs (sometimes even happens at boot, after everything loads & desktop is ready, with no programs opened) the taskbar hides (I like/use autohide on the taskbar), will not pop up (mouse moves fine), and any open windows will not respond to attempts to click on anything (like minimize, move, open, links, etc.) until I either do ctrl-alt-del to bring up the taskbar (and then just close it) or do alt-tab and switch to a window - and then viola, all is fine again... for awhile. It happens sometimes with just 1 program running (not 1 in particular either) or 2, 5, or howevermany programs running. System is not memory starved. I do not recall exactly when this started (to see if it started when a new program was installed or something), but has been going on for weeks.

I have tried everything [short of a clean reinstall of XP] including complete virus & spyware scans with good detection programs, making sure no rogue programs are running in the background (or at startup), tried defragging, running error checking, using system restore, tried [on recommendation] the 'taskbar repair tool plus' tool (that really messed up my system... had to system restore to get it back), even tried resetting the taskbar by deleting HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects2, Streams, and Stream... Recently purchased a new computer. I was having issues with installing Windows 7 and learned that HyperTransport is sometimes the cause of the issue and by turning it from "Auto" in the BIOS settings to "X1" can resolve the issue, and for me it did.

After installing Windows 7 and waiting to see if there were any other errors I went back to turn HyperTransport back to "Auto" I'm above computer savvy, but not far when it comes to hardware, I'm more of a software kind of guy. After doing so I was receiving consistent BSOD's. And after turning HyberTransport back to "X1" they went away narrowing it down to this being my issue.

I didn't know if updating my BIOS would help the issue so I decided to ask around first.

Computer Specs:

AMD Phenom II X6 1075T with HyperTransport
Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3
8Gig of Corsair Dominator
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1Gig

I have no idea about the power that any of these pieces should be receiving, nor if that would even be the cause of the problem. Also, windows freezes along with the BSODs saying that a video driver went out but was recovered, I just installed the latest video drivers. At the time of posting this the computer has been running for 2hours without HyperTransport set to "Auto"

Would updating the BIOS fix the problem?

Thank you!

My wife's laptop runs Vista Business SP1. It is in a Server 2003 domain. She connects through my wireless AP, but the DHCP service is actually provided by a Pix firewall. I have 3 other laptops running XP that all connect fine, and so do all wired clients. The Vista laptop only gets an internal connection and an auto-configuration IP. The DHCP client is not running (see the error in the event log below). All this started a couple of days ago. I am not aware of any configuration changes that conincided with this issue.Everything seems work fine with a static IP address, but that's not a solution.I found a few threads that talked about a similar issue that was resolved by adding full permissions to two registry keys for the Network Service account. This did not work for me. It sounds like my issue could be related to this and this, but the laptop here worked fine for years in the exact same configuration. Alas, everybody seems to be in the dark about this issue. Is there really no solution but reinstalling Vista?Log Name:      SystemSource:        Service Control ManagerDate:          2009-06-23 22:54:15Event ID:      7023Task Category: NoneLevel:         ErrorKeywords:      ClassicUser:          N/AComputer:      [...]Description:The DHCP Client service terminated with the following error: Access is denied.

Hi, thanks for the post. In order to narrow down the issue, you can collect log file on this issue.

On the problematic computer, restore original settings and make sure you can repro "Access Denied" error. Then, follow below steps to collect data.

1. Download process monitor from

http://download.sysinternals.com/Files/ProcessMonitor.zip

2. Extract ProcessMonitor.zip to the problematic client.
3. Run Procmon.exe (Process Monitor)
4. Reproduce this issue.
5. Click File->Save from Process Monitor, compress and send the log files to me.
6. Send ?access denied? screen capture to me.

Repeat Step 1 - 6 on another machine with this kind of issue and send data to me. You can send it to me via [email protected] Zhu - MSFT
