Try rebooting the router & modem. Usually limited connection, means that the compute has failed to communicate properly with the Wireless Access Point, or wired router connection.

Hi,
I am hoping you can help me with my problem.
My main laptop (Sony Vaio VPCCB15FG) in the last week just stopped accessing the internet via WiFi.
It says it has Limited Acess but I have no idea how to fix it.

The other 3 computers in the house (Custom desktop, Toshiba Net book, Samsung Laptop) can all access the internet as normal.

It is only the Sony that is being problomatic.
It is also running rather slow for the spec so that may be related.

Please help! I am not super computer savy so please give simple instructions.

Cheers

GTNeil

Hello everyone,I've been having a problem since I updated to Windows 8.1My internet wi-fi connection is unusually low and is not working after only minutes of browsing the internet. The problem is always fixed after I run troubleshoot problems and is saying that the default Gateway is unavailable. My netword card might be the source of the problem even tough I updated the drivers. I'm not sure which one I have because drivers from Ralink and Qualcomm seem to be working both so :/Please help ^^

Hi,
Welcome to the forums, go to device manager, expand "Network Adapters" and find out the make of your card and post here, while you are in Device Manager, right click wireless adapter, click properties, select "Advanced" tab, select "Auto" from the drop down ( as in 2nd snip) for 802.11n Channel width for 2.4.

Hey, I am really hoping someone can help me solve this problem, it's driving me up the wall!
When I started using my computer this morning everything was fine, and then "no network access" kept appearing, along with "limited connection/connectivity". I would troubleshoot the problem, but then at the end of the troubleshoot it would freeze, and my screen went black, so I had to turn my computer off and then on again. This problem has persisted throughout the day, I've googled it but nothing really the same as this has turned up .. if someone could please please help me, I'd really appreciate it!

I'm using a MBP mid 2012 15-inch non-retina running Windows 7 through BootCamp.
I decided to update my installation to the SP1 and hence installed a few Windows essential updates. After the update, I realized that my WiFi failed to connect to any hotspot, although all were present in the connection selection dialogue in the system tray. On clicking connect on any SSID, it takes around 30 seconds and then says "Connection unsuccessful , Limited connectivity to **** "
Also, neither connecting an ethernet cable nor USB tethering from my Android phone seem to work. Any help?
I've tried installing the latest BootCamp Support software, tried uninstalling and deleting existing ethernet and wireless adapter drivers

MacBook Pro, Windows 7, Running OS X 10.8.3 and BootCamp 5

EDIT: I have manually update both the ethernet and WLAN drivers, to no avail

I'm trying to fix my girlfriend's Windows 7 laptop after she had a virus/malware infection. I'm pretty sure we've successfully cleared the virus (an updated/full scan with Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware in safe mode comes up clean). However, we have had no Internet access since the infection. The wireless router/connection itself is fine (I connect to it daily with my laptop, as I am to write this post) but her laptop won't connect to it, we can't browse any web pages.

I may have made the problem worse in trying to resolve it. I stupidly followed the advice on a forum for some registry edits for Windows XP--deleting WinSock and WinSock2 from the registry and then restarting the computer in hopes they'd re-register themselves. Unfortunately, WinSock2 re-appeared but WinSock did not. I'm wondering if this has created a new problem (or compounded the problems we were already having).

In diagnostics, we currently get the following report: "Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration." I just ran an ipconfig in the command prompt and got the following results:

I installed Windows 10 2 days ago and since then I have an issue where my Internet will fluctuate between Connected and Limited, which prevents me from accessing any web pages or applications. I've tried everything from resetting the router, replacing the router, trying to do an ipconfig /release and /renew (which didn't work, I couldn't release for some reason.) I'm seeing a lot of some similar issues where people are running into issues with their Adapter Drivers and I'm trying to figure out if maybe that's my problem. I'm using a Rosewill RNX-N250PCe and I'm running Windows 10 as previously stated. If anyone knows what I can try to do and possibly walk me through it (with links if possible) then it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello all,

I have just bought a HP G61-410SA laptop. When turning it on initially I wasn't able to find my router that is plugged in to my PC to set up an internet connection. After trying a few things it finally found the signal and I tryed to connect to it. The signal strength, from the laptop to my O2 router, is full strength however there is a message saying "limited access" and I am unable to load any webpages on the laptop. Any help on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated. If any further information is required could you be very specific on how to find it as most I.T goes over my head!

I tryed putting an extra ethernet cable in the back of my router and plugging it in to the laptop which did work but sort of defeats the purpose of having the laptop. I don't know if that helps any or makes a diffrence.

Thanks

Paul

I'm using a Linksys WUSB100 ver. 2 wireless network USB adapter. I've already tried downloading the latest driver for windows 7 64 bit, 3.0.3.0 from the Linksys website. I've also tried restarting my computer and the wireless modem. I did a system restore to the point where it was last working but it still isn't working. Dear experts, I got a tough one for you.

My friend has a brand new Dell Latitude laptop with Win 7 on it. It's his business laptop so it's quite secure, i.e. he needs a password just to unlock the hard drive.

At the current job site we have a Cisco Linksys wireless router that looks like this: http://www.psnation.com/2011/11/07/review-ciscolinksys-wes610n-dual-band-n-entertainment-bridge/

His issue is this: the wireless connection signal appears strong, there are no indications that there would be anything wrong...

However, as soon as he wants to go to BBC sports or somesuch website, the yellow exclamation mark symbol appears in the lower right of the screen and the browser fails to connect. Also the text "Limited Access" appears in the wireless connection list.

I also have Win 7 and can connect to the internet at the office just fine. My laptop is from 2012.

I checked the connection properties, he does have an IP allocated automatically without issue and there are no problems with the Wifi adaptor, no driver issues, nothing wrong in Device Manager.

He can use the wireless connection at the hotel just fine, but the one at work, as soon as he tries to connect to any website (even google) he gets the "Limited access" message.

Any thoughts?

My own POV is that either his IT guy secured the h*** out of his laptop or the router from 2011 is too old to work with his brand new laptop.

This is a pretty weird issue, so thanks much for any input.... Read more

A:Wireless connection appears available but when connecting "Limited Access"

It could be that the IT department at your work is restricting which computers can access the Internet through the router. MAC filtering on the router is one way of doing it, but not foolproof.

For the past year, my connection has not been good. It randomly (either once a day or multiple times per hour) will stop working and the wireless symbol shows a yellow caution sign and it says I have limited access. After running the trouble shoot problem (Never ever fixes it), it always tells me it's an issue with the modem however many times I am shut out yet my Father and Sister are able to search the web, my Mother has the same problem as I and out internet drops out at the same time. The trouble shooting also says "Default gateway is not available" and ""Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have valid IP configuration."

All drivers are up to date including the wireless adapter. The only way to fix the problem is to unplug the power to the router and then plug it back in. I am in range of the router to where I always get 5 bars and sometimes 4 bars so that's not an issue.

- My wireless adapter is an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030
- Router is a stock router provided from out ISP, Frontier. If you need the model, tell me and I'll find out.

Hey, I'm having a problem with my internet. My house has an Apple Router, which is broadcasting two networks, a guest network and a main. A few weeks ago, I started encountering problems with the guest network. It would be working fine, then suddenly my internet would stop working, and I got a 'Limited Access' message. I disconnected from the network, and reconnected, and it worked fine for about 10 minutes, then the same problem occurred. So I tried connecting to the main network, which worked fine until today. Suddenly, I got the limited access message again, it works for a while whenever I disconnect and reconnect, but stops at around 5 minute intervals. Any ideas? Oh and I should mention that it's only on my computer. My iPod Touch and the other 3 laptops in the house have no problem connecting. Thanks in advance!

By the way I have a 32 bit Gateway laptop running Windows 7 (upgraded from Vista last year)

A:"Limited Access Internet Connection"

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver. If it is an integrated (internal) adapter get the driver from Gateway's web site. If you already have the correct driver reinstall it anyhow in case the installed instance is corrupted.

What security applications (security suite, anti-virus, firewall, etc.) do you have?

And run these repairs ...

(From a JohnWill post)

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista or 7.

Start - All Programs - Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

Hello,

I have an Asus Netbook 1005P, running Windows 7, SP1, with Internet Explorer 11.

I am often but not always, experiencing the following issue:

When I attempt to connect to Wifi at a caf, the "Wireless Network Connection" for the Network shows "Connected", yet there is no Internet access. Placing the pointer over the Connection icon in the Notification Area displays:

"Unidentified Network No Internet Access".
(The network in question always has an SSID shown in the Wireless Network Connection list.)

This issue occurs whether I am running only the Windows firewall, or am only running the firewall that I prefer which is Comodo.

For antivirus I have Avast Pro (with its "web shield" currently disabled) and so far as this issue is concerned it makes no difference whether this Avast component is enabled or disabled, or whether I disable all Avast Shields.

When this issue occurs, there are often other customers in the caf connected to the caf wifi and also using the Internet.

I have to ask the caf to reset, or turn off and then turn back on, their router, yet other customers do not have to do this to get Internet connection!

This is the issue at whatever caf, to whose Wifi I attempt to connect.

Please help with a solution to this issue.

Regards,

Robert339

Hi my pc is having wifi issues. It is loading webpages very slow and will say "limited" when looking at the network it is connected to. If I disconnect and reconnect to the network it will say connected and then 5-10 mins later will be "limited" again and/or slow.
I thought at first it was my wireless card as both my phone and laptop connect to the wifi / internet speed and connection is fine in the same area. I replaced the wireless card in the PC with a wireless usb stick to connect to the wifi but the problem is exactly the same.
Does anyone know what is happening here or how to fix it?
Tried the following but cant find a fix:
its not a driver issue as ive reinstalled drivers / installed completely new wireless adapter and still same issues
if i reduce connections to the router the issue persists
the router is running on a channel no other routers are running on
if i run speedtest.net on the pc which is have issues the speed is slower than if i run on laptop or phone
Thanks a lot

It used to work well on the wifi (same router) and I have restarted the router several times, but to no prevail. The wifi problem is only for my two private wifi connections, and the computer can work fine on any other wifi. I do not know how to fix this, or where to begin, and would prefer not changing my computer's os to something lower such as windows 8. Please comment if you know how I should fix this.

Hello, I am at my college, and I have a strange problem. When I am connected to my college's network, it works just fine, but every few minutes or so, my WiFi network connection suddenly goes to "Limited" and I lose my internet access. It doesn't actually disconnect, but it just says it is limited. If I disconnect and reconnect, it works fine, but then a couple minutes later it does it again. I can't seem to see any pattern to it, but sometimes I think it happens more when I am in a full-screen application like a game or Netflix or something. Also, this only seems to happen in my dorm building. If I go to another building, and connect, it seems that the problem goes away. I tried some of the solutions mentioned here, but none seemed to fix it. Any clue what the deal is?

A:WiFi says "Limited" every few minutes

I am also experiencing the "limited" condition when I am hooked up to the internet from home. There were a number of links on the internet with some suggestions as to what was occurring and what to do. None seemed to work for me.

I purchased my laptop last week and started to configure it yesterday and started seeing the "limited" condition when I looked at the network status. Then shortly after the "limited" designation appeared, my internet connection was lost.

Since I purchased the laptop through Costco they have a concierge service for most of their electronic products. I called them and we went through a number of tests (power off - status reset, remove the Centrino WIFI driver, reloaded the driver, even got HP on the line) and nothing has resolved the issue. I have now made five calls to Costco and the last two they have engaged HP. The last dialog was to have them send me a replacement WIFI module to see if this resolves the problem - supposed to arrive on Thursday (9/12).

Hopefully this does the trick and let's me continue on with transferring everything from a Window's 7 laptop to the new unit.

So depending on where you got your unit and probably more importantly I would go back to them and see if they would be able to contact the computer manufacturer to possibly get a replacement WIFI module. I don't know if you would get anywhere calling the manufacturer directly but it might be worth a try to have them try to troubleshoot the WIF... Read more

Hi!

I've been checkin some info in other places but the problem appears to be resistant to solutions

After scanning and removing some viruses, I found myself without wireless internet connection. I suppose some configuration was changed by the virus but I can't find out what it was to restore to default. There are 2 other PC linked wirelessly to the same router and this is the only one with the issue.

I tried ipconfig/renew failed, ping xxxxxxxx General Failure, netsh int ip reset reset.log and netsh winsock reset catalog after reboot no luck...

Help would be apreciated, I can post the result of ipconfig/all if you need it

Thanks in advance!

A:Internet wireless connection: "Limited Connectivity" in one machine!

Just to confirm,
The command is ipconfig /release & ipconfig /renew
There is a space between ipconfig and /
If you've already tried it, then looks like the viruses must have corrupted the winsock catalog.

Hi All,

Hoping to get some direction or help here...

I have two Toshiba laptops, both have inbuilt WiFi connections.
I have a Satellite P20 with Win XP and a Satellite P100 with Vista.
I connect to a Cable Modem through a Buffalo Wireless Access Point running WEP and with SSID Broadcast On.

The P20 (XP) unit connects with no problems.
The P100 (Vista) intermittently drops to "Limited Connectivity". Sometimes switching the WiFi card off and on, using the external switch, will return the connection, as will Disabling/Enabling the card. But, in each case, the connection normally lasts just a few minutes before dropping again.

I have reset the Modem, and the Wireless Access Point, but with no improvement.

Any ideas?

I can access the internet but it seems that I get disconnected too often. It is very annoying specially when I'm on skype, my call drops every 1 or 2 minutes.

Previously I don't have this problem with my other laptop (HP), my skype call never drops even for 2 or 3 hours straight.

I suspect that my connection is the problem because everytime my call drops, my connection indcates "Limited Access Only".

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

We have discussed this just recently and in the past on here. A lot of times it is the router if Wireless. If using an Ethernet connection. It can be a bad cable or poorly punched down RJ-45 Keystone.

It does help to know what manufacturer & model of router you have, along with if this is only with Wireless, or with both wired & wireless connections.

Hi, I'm having trouble setting up my parents wireless connection. I've had it working before, but it seems to stop working randomly. Restarting sometimes works, but sometimes it's not working right now. My parents desktop has Windows XP SP3 installed and has an LM technologies LM-001 WiFi USB adapter set to AP mode. Yesterday I had a Vista Laptop, a Vista Desktop and a Wii online, but now when I try and connect the Vista computers, hovering over the network icons brings up a box saying:

"Unidentified network (WLAN-AP)
Access: Local only"

Clicking "diagnose" brings up a message telling me "This computer has limited or no connectivity". None of the options work. I realise that this may not be enough information, but I'm terrible with networks. Also, I've had similar problems with wired networks on my parents computer, so I'm pretty certain it's something with that computer.

Thanks in advance for any help,

I've been looking around the forum for posts to follow other advice from other threads, but I just can't seem to make the network work. The laptop is old and little room on the C drive, so my girlfriend tried compressing the program file. The next morning the internet didn't work, so she expanded it back out. Now the internet still doesn't work. It doesn't help that i'm not that knowledgeable about computers. Any help would greatly be appreciated. The internet still works on my other laptop, so i'm assuming the router is fine? I tried connecting the laptop to the router by wire and it still gives the same problem.
I opened up cmd and the ipconfig /all is in the attachment
(also the computer is in partially in Chinese... Sorry)
Thank you

Hi guys,

New here so hi

I'm having problems with my sony vaio connecting to the internet. For one thing it doesn't pick up wireless signal as far away as the other laptops in the house. The main problem though, is that often the bars will be lit up as if it is connected but there will be a little yellow warning triangle saying limited.

When it happens, I try disconnecting/reconnecting and turning the router on and off but most of the time I just have to wait until it comes back. Once it is connected it works fine. It is fairly a fairly common occurence and happens every day.

I've looked this up and it seems that a large amount of these laptops have the same problem however I've yet to find a fix (I'm not a very techy person so don't understand much technical jargon). None of the other laptops/phones/ipad have this problem.

We have an Eircom router and the wireless card (according to the outside of the box) is: Wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11bgn)

Unfortunately the laptop is outside its warranty and I will need this to last me through college (starting next year) so I really do need to find a fix for this. Any help would be appreciated and if you need more info just ask although you may have to explain how i get it :P

Thanks very much.

Just a few things for you to try until a wifi guru can respond:

Switch to a high performance power plan to see if that helps your issue.
Uncheck the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option (if checked) under the Power Management Tab in device manager for the wifi adapter. Go to:

Contriol Panel> device manager> network adapters> wifi adapter> power management tab> see the option above

Good luck.

well, my friend called me up today and told me his PC was running really slow and he was having alot of errors, I asked him if he ever cleaned it of spyware and such and he said no.

so I drove over and downloaded and installed AD-aware SE, I use the program alot and it works well for removing spyware and adware.

I scanned his PC and it found over 1000 objects, most being high risk, so I removed it all and after a reboot, his internet stopped working. I tried everything I knew to get it on again and nothing worked.

he has a wireless Linksys router setup on a cable modem and I tried rebooting the modem and router which did not work, we also tried hooking the router up directly to the network adapter and using a 2nd connection for that (forgot what it was called) and disabling the wirless connection, but that also didn't work.

we ran a signal test for his router and it says it has a strong signal and it can find the router, but it cant find the internet and the status on his taskbar keeps reading "Status is limited or no connectivity".

I also tried to log on to his router but it can't find that either :S

so I am baffled, any help is appreciated

As the title suggests, currently running Windows 7 64-bit, and have had no troubles with my internet in some time. Finally went ahead and set up security on my Linksys router today, but immediately after my PC could no longer connect to the network.

There are two laptops, a desktop, a Playstation 3, and two smart phones that all have no troubles with accessing the network now, but this specific desktop continues to show limited access, despite having full bars. Help?

If anybody can solve this, I will cry. I'm not joking. I will break down and cry because I've been struggling with this for 6 months...

So here's the issue in a nutshell:
My internet is connected to a laptop downstairs as well as mine (sometimes but rarely). I often cant connect. It comes up with a box that says "Connect to a Network" and for options, "Troubleshoot problems" or "Tell me more about Internet connection problems". I click "Troubleshoot problems" about 5,000 times a day (no joke) and about 20 of those times it fixes the problem. The other times it does nothing and I have to go shut off the downstairs computer and unplug and plug back in the router about 10 times. Then sometimes is works for 10 minutes or so, and sometimes it doesn't. If I ever do get it working, it never ever stays working.

Most times when the internet does connect, it works for about 30 seconds then shows a yellow triangle warning said with an exclamation mark stating "limited access".

My SGS2 phone connects just fine. So does the laptop downstairs and any other gadgets except for my desktop! This is frustrating as anything!

I've tried various commands from different websites to fix it and nothing works. I've even tried booting in safe mode with networking (NOTHING ELSE RUNNING) and the internet still doesn't connect. It ALWAYS shows the network with full bars, but never connects.

Please, let's put... Read more

Hi!
I own an HP laptop running on windows 10. Since I got it back in December, I've had the unresolved issue as follows:

Whenever the laptop is starting up, be that from sleep mode or powering it on from off, it connects automatically to my home network, as it should, but with a "Limited" connection. The only way to resolve the issue is to disconnect and reconnect, and it is fine until the laptop is closed or shut down.

As you can imagine, this got rather tedious rather quickly.

This is the only device in my house with this issue, among phones, tablets, gaming systems, and other laptops/desktops.

Any help or solutions are appreciated!

Things I've tried:
Resetting the computer (duh.)
Resetting my router.
Replacing my router and modem (This was for an unrelated issue, but it was done regardless)
Clearing and re-inputting my home network settings
Resetting the router like 30 more times

Please help.

Hello

I have:
ASUS Netbook with Windows 7 Starter.

As of last night, I cannot connect to any of the wireless networks I use every day (my personal home network or my school's WPA2).

The signal strength is very good, but it says "Limited Access" next to the network name. Apparently "Limited" means "No" because I am not connected.
Here's what happened:

Lavasoft Ad-Aware was blocking a site that I needed to access. I haven't used Ad-Aware in months, and it did not even appear to be running. So uninstalled it with Add/Remove programs in the control panel.
BUT, mid-way through the uninstallation, I got a blue screen and my computer restarted.
When my computer booted back up, I could no longer connect to my home's wireless. I'm at school now and I cannot connect here either.
Ad-aware is gone from the add/remove programs list, but there is still an Ad-Aware folder in Program Files. The folder still has a bunch of stuff in it, including adaware.exe. I dont see an uninstaller (but i havent really investigated that yet).
so now i can't connect to any network.
Here's What I've Tried

Ran troubleshooter. Useless.
Turned off my netbook's wireless. turned it back on.
Device manager says my Network Adapters are working fine. No yellow or red icons next to them.
also tried resetting stuff with the command prompt. something about winsock and netsh. I don't know what I was doing though. just following in... Read more

I have a very irratating problem that i just can't seem to resolve. My lap top, about a year and half old (Asus g73sw), has decided to begin randomly dc'ing me from wifi networks. This problem is completely random and happens wether my lap top is just idle or if i'm in the middle of a league of legends match. So here's the problem: I'll be online and all of the sudden web pages stop loading and my wifi connection either is totally lost, or is usually available but with "limited access". I have already made sure my wifi capabilites are completely turned on, tried connecting to other networks (same problem), and updating wireless drivers. In addition, i bought a wireless internet adapter (thinking it could possibly be my wireless card going bad) and the problem was not solved at all. One thing to note is that i have absolutly no problems if i connect to my internet via ethernet cable. any ideas of what it could be? btw, it says my ipv4 & 6 are not connected or available or w/e. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance!

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, kaspersky or Mcafee or any free security suites like zonealarm, AVG , Webroot etc
lets see the following please

ipconfig /all

also do a TCP/IP reset - see below

ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
Note: you will see entries named Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: we dont need to see that information - JUST the infomation above those entries

Prior to this issue , I had ESET Smart Security 4 installed and everything seemed fine. After updating to ESET Smart Security 5, it seemed to be that every time I turn on both my desktop and laptop (both running Windows 7 Professional x64) the network would say "No Connection" (on my desktop via ethernet) and "Limited Access" (on my laptop via WiFi). After a minute, both computers would then connect.

I'm pretty sure this program somehow changed the way my network adapter connects with my networks.

Here's what I tried doing:

1. I tried to uninstall ESET Smart Security 5 (using their manual removal tool and tried to delete the remaining registry keys) and this problem still persists.
2. I tried to boot up my laptop in SafeMode with networking and this problem still persists.
3. I tried to reset my TCP/IP settings via cmd and through Window's reset utility -- still nothing
4. I tried to do a system restore, but it has been over a month after my update -- so that doesn't work either
5. I checked Window's network services and made sure it's on automatic

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks for all your help!

Have you tried to Power Cycle your devices?

If the above suggestions didn't work and all the computers in your network are affected updating the router's firmware to the latest might also help.

Hi, I can't get my brand new Win7 PC to connect to my WLAN reliably. It will work sporadically, but only <10% of the time.

Timeline Summary:
- Bought new Lenovo ThinkCentre w/Win7. Moved PCI wireless NIC from my old XP PC to the new one. Installed latest driver for the NIC from web.
- New PC seemed to connect to WLAN ok.
- attached ethernet cable to the new PC to transfer files faster from old harddrive.
(NOTE: I didn't give it much time "working" before connecting the ethernet cable. It's possible that had I done nothing at that point, it still would have stopped working)
- while cable was attached, downloaded and installed some software
- after unplugging the ethernet cable, now I only get "Limited Access" or "No Internet Access" when connecting wirelessly.
- Have tried many remedies found by googling. Most failed. It has connected successfully twice since this point. (Once by rolling back to earlier System Restore, once by powering down for 10 minutes, then booting back up, disconnecting and re-connecting from network.) In both cases, it worked for a few minutes (was able to print to shared printer on this PC from another one, and got to the web from this PC in chrome) but then stopped working suddenly.
- Other devices in the house have no issue connecting to the WLAN (2 XP laptops, 1 Android phone, 1 ipod touch, and 1 TiVo). The NIC had no issue connecting when it was in my ancient Pentium III PC running XP.

When I diagnose the problem windows says:"There might be a problem with the driver for the wireless network connection 2 adapter". When i type ipconfig/all in commands it says DHCP is disabled whereas in the Advanced TCP/IP settings it says it is enabled. I thought that might be what caused the problem but it might be something else. Is it to do with a virus I cannot install my antivirus because i need internet to verify the activation code.

It says in wireless network connection status that IPv4 is disabled when i think it shouldn't be because other computers i have looked at have that setting enabled.

Im very unsure of what to do and i dont want to spend an arm an a leg to get it repaired at a computer specialist store.

Welcome to the Seven Forums!

You need to get rid of the infection(s) before working on anything else. Get a USB jump drive or a CD that you can burn files to and go to a computer that can get online.

Download CCleaner to get rid of temp files - it will make the antivirus scans go faster :-)
Download CCleaner 3.20.1750 - FileHippo.com

Download Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) from here:

Hello,
I have a Dell Vostro 1720 with Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN. Yesterday, my wireless network at home stopped working. In Wireless Network Connections, it says "Limited access". I'm not sending or receiving any packets, but my wireless connection is strong. When I troubleshoot the problem, it says that there might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection adapter. I updated the driver and there are no caution signs in the device manager. I made sure I didn't have an AVG connection under Networking Properties as suggested elsewhere. I even tried manually configuring the IPv4 properties. I'm not sure what else to try at this point. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

ive been searching here all night and on other forums and have tried just about everything. so here goes. all was working perfectly fine yesterday. i brought my netbook to work as usual to connect to our unsecured wifi network....never an issue. i started getting "limited access" and "unidentified network" messages. apparently, after a brief search of the internet, its a common and troublesome thing. i tried EVERYTHING i could find on google and other forums about it.

Hardware: Acer Aspire One D260 netbook, Atheros WLAN with up-to-date driver.

What i have tried with NO success:
1.) disable / re-enable the wireless card
2.) update, rollback the driver for it
3.) confirm the properties for the IPv4 and IPv6 were set to auto detect
4.) ran winipconfig, reset winsock, release and renew IP.....etc. all of the command line functions i could find
5.) system restore to 5 days ago

when i get all of my ip info for the computer, it is showing the ip for the wireless adapter is 169.254.xx.xx which from my reading is an erroneous address. when connected to the same network via iphone, it shows a proper 192.169.2xx.xx ip address.

ive tried everything and cant get it to work. i CANT reset the router since i dont have access to it. but then again, since my iphone connects to it properly, so should the computer. i will try to connect to my home network shortly when i get home. any other ideas short of reinstalling windows and WHY does this happen???

A:Yet another "unidentified network / limited access" thread....help!!

Hmm.. can you try inputting the the IPV4 address in the properties of your wireless card manually?

I find that this forcing of manual IP settings often helps alleviate this unidentified network issue that happens occasionally on some networks i connect to..

For example:-

In your IP Version 4 Properties box:-

Set the IP to 192.168.2xx.xx (fill up the xxx with the same numbers as your network, e.g if your gateway is 192.168.220.2, you IP should be 192.168.220.27, 27 being the manual allocation)

Set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0

and lastly set the default gateway to 192.169.2xx.xx (Fill up the xxx with your network gateway numbers)

If you want you can also set the Preferred DNS server address to that of your gateway

Try the above and see how it goes..

Hope that helps...

EDIT: I forgot to read the part that mentioned you're on a network at work which means you may need to get the Default Gateway and DNS addresses from your IT guy. Also they may not allow manual IP allocations beyond that which have been allocated by the DHCP.. So.. YMMV..

Also, i believe you can also acquire the required numbers from your iPhone's IP address display i think...

You should try going into the routers set up page and change the wireless channel to a different one. Windows 7 tends to drop out or lose the connection if the wireless channel is overloaded. You can use a wireless scanner program like Xirrus WIFI inspector to scan for channels being used in your area.

Choose a channel furthest away form the ones your neighbors are using. Streaming movies wirelessly requires a good connection and a clear channel to work correctly. It also helps to use the Wireless N only setting in your router for best possible speed.

A few days ago I booted up my HP Pavilion dv4-2049wm laptop. Windows update needed to reboot, due to my postponing it for a few days, so I let it reboot and I started getting blue screens.

After a few restarts (getting the BSOD every time), I booted into the last known good configuration. It booted up fine, but now I can no longer connect to my network (wired and wireless). It sees my wireless connection, but states "Limited Access."

Things I have tried:

Uninstalled/Updated network drivers from HP's site, specific to my laptop model.

Uninstalled all windows updates that were installed before BSOD

Flushed, registered, renewed dns via command prompt

Reset Winsock via command prompt

Tried a "clean" boot

Ran Windows Check Disk

Ran Windows Memory Tester (Unsure of exact name)

On the day of the crash I attempted to do a restore, but the earliest restore I could do was at the time of the windows update (same time as BSOD).

One thing I did notice is that the "Teredo Tunneling Pseudo_Interface" listed under network adapters is no longer there. Not sure what that might have to do with anything.

I ran this tool (Who Crashed/Crashdump) and here is my log:

Hello, about 3 days ago my internet my internet was working perfectly. And two days ago my router decided to stop working and shut down all internet connections it was connected to. But I soon fixed the router (did a reboot) and everything works fine, except my gaming desktop which shows a "limited access" next to the router name and a yellow triangle with a "!" on it.

Here are the things I tried:
Rebooting both the router and modem
setting a default gateway to the IPV4 and IPV6 address
Uninstalling the network drivers so they would automatically install again

I'm running out of options. I searched everywhere but nothing seems to work. And no way am I re-installing windows 7. I have about 60 steam games on my desktop and I do not want to re-install every one of those.

Any bit of help would be wonderful

Not sure if this is in the right forum, so Admins, help a noob out if you wish.

I'm having bit of a pickle with one of our computers. According to the sys tray icon, I'm connected but have limited access. Connected to home network with netgear router.

Things I have tried;

-Restart (Obvious, but works... Usually)
-Ping router
-Set IP to DHCP (Restart connection)
-Manually configure IP
-Clear DNS (Flush command in CMD)
-Reset router
-change CAT cable position on the router
-Disable network adapter in device manager. restart. re-enable
-uninstall network adapter. Restart. Re-Install
-Check settings on router with those of the computer.
-Set DHCP again.
-Manual again with the ISP gateway, DNS and IP range

I recently installed Windows 8.1 Pro on my laptop. I immediately starting seeing some issues Internet wise. Whenever I would have multiple tabs open, my connection would become "Limited". As you see, this would start to become a very annoying after time. Then recently I've been attempting to Skype with my friends while simultaneously playing games with them. Literally every 30 seconds it would become "Limited". I looked up a troubleshoot guide online and I followed it step by step but the last step instructed me to do something that my computer didn't have the option to do, I can't think of the exact step know. But Thanks in advance.

Edit: This is my Device Manager under the "Network" category

A:Windows 8.1 Pro: "Limited" Connection Problem

Usually is a bad Ethernet cord between the computer and Gateway, or bad wire from the jack to the Patch Panel. Could also be caused by the adapter going bad, bad driver, or a bad Gateway port. Too many variables.

Hello, Sorry for my bad English.

One week ago, I got new MMO that I need VPN to play it, because its region block.

So, I search for VPN, and right now I'm using ZenMate.

But I got problem here, I have no problem with connecting the VPN, it can connect easily, I can play the game without problem.

But after several hours (random, maybe 1-2 hours maybe?), status on Zenmate client become "Connection Error". When I check my network status, My LAN connection become "Limited", and how I can fix this, I need to DC the VPN through Network
(It cant DC using zenmate client) and the VPN will reconnect again.

If I'm only browsing, its fine. But when gaming, its really annoying.

Try some support from zenmate like, reinstalling, delete VPN setting from adapter network, but it doesnt work. Try to googling, I found some forum that some problem happened because of bug in win 8. I got some solution there, like

1. Using hotfix
2. Uncheck default gateaway from zenmate VPN adapter properties.

But, it doesnt work, because,

1. Using hotfix: In that forum, the thread starter using win 8, some people that comment on that thread (using win 8.1) it not work on win 8.1, and I already download the hotfix, but still not install it because some of warning "maybe cause trouble
to system if it wrong", so because of that I decided to ask here.

Hi there everyone!

Win XP SP 3
Connecting to a wired connection.

My mom and dad came to stay with us for a while and we connected their computer to the network(with 6 wired and 3 wireless connections already present). It shows "limited or no connectivity". Here's what I've tried to fix.

1) boot into Debian live cd to ensure physical connection wasn't to blame. Connection worked just fine.
2) boot into Safe Mode w/Networking. Connection was not present.
3) ipconfig /RENEW (generates error: "An error occurred while renewing interface Wireless Network Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out.")
4) netsh winsock reset catalog
5) netsh int ip reset reset.log
6) delete interface card in device manager and reboot.
7) msconfig and shut down all processes but the bare minimum.
8) checked services.msc:

COM+ Event System: Running
Computer Browser: Set to manual. Started and it stopped, stating that sometimes processes will stop if there's nothing to do.
DHCP Client: Running
DNS Client: Running
Network Connections: Running
Network Location Awareness: Running
Remote Procedure Call (RPC): Running
Server: Running
TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper: Running

9) Set specific IP and DNS under tcp/ip properties (192.168.1.125 for IP, 192.168.1.1 for gateway, 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 for DNS) Reverted when no change.
10) Disabled Windows Firewall and AVG.

I have new Dell Dimension e310, I have myself and my wife set up as "Adminstrators" and the 3 kids as "Limited". When I did the initial set-up I checked a box that said something about keeping files private. Maybe I shouldn't have. Now when I am logged in and I down load a new program such as "Kodak Easyshare" nobody else can select pictures to make changes to them. Is there a way to allow access to these files/pictures in this program and other future programs??

A:User Accounts - with "limited" access

You have 2 choices: you can move the files/programs into the Shared Documents folder, or you can remove the extra security on your user ID.

The Shared Documents folder is found in My Computer. It is active under every account on the computer.

Here is a step by step from Microsoft on how to add/remove permissions for folders and files. Microsoft Support

Hello,

I have searched and found that many people receive the same error as me, but my circumstance is unlike any I have found thus far.

I get a triangle and exclamation point on the wireless signal icon in my task bar after about an hour after being connected to the internet. When I hover over the icon it displays "Limited Access". Connection is lost at this point.

I then right click the icon and click "Troubleshoot Network Problems" and windows seems to restart the network card and I regain internet access for another hour or so. It says the error was "Wireless network connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration".

This is hard for me to troubleshoot because everyone else that has this error cannot connect to the internet in the first place. I am (strangely) connected just fine then all of a sudden I get "Limited Access" with full wireless bars caused by an "invalid IP configuration". None of the other computers in my home have this issue. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

I have unchecked the power saving feature for the network card and tried disabling the firewall, but I'm not sure what else to do. Thanks for any help!

Newbie with a big network problem is saying "Hello" to every1 in this forum.

I was surfing last three days on the Web and have tried tens of tests trying to resolve my problem and no success so far.

So I decided to search here for luck, perhaps a miracle will happen. Otherwise I am facing system reinstall and this will be disaster due to all data and software I will need to copy and reinstall.

Let me briefly tell you what happened:

A several days ago long time not seen BSOD said "hello, I'm here" to me. I thought that I'll restart my comp and after its self test everything will go back to normal.

Unfortunately I was wrong because BSOD started to visit me more and more often.

I know that anything can cause BSOD so I decided to perform memory test. I did let computer do it and amazingly I got message that everything is OK but my comp was still crashing. I decided to perform one more memory test to be 100% sure that it is not memory problem.

I removed all 4 RAM chips from slots, put one of them back in slot and started computer. Guess what happened? Nothing. Computer could not boot. I put it in another slot and had exactly the same result: nothing. I put next 3 chips in the same slots one after one and computer was booting flawlessly. No crashes. 3 chips (6Gig) back in slots - no any problem. After adding first one - problems and crashes.

So now I have 3 RAM memory chips (6Gig) working. No problem with booting, no problem with crashes.

But I got anot... Read more

My brother has a laptop that he got a few weeks ago. I bought a Belkin Wireless-N router model number F5D8233-4. Setup was fast and easy. Everything connected fine from my gaming PC in my room via wired and wireless to the home/office PC via wired to his laptop via wireless to my cell phone via WiFi to the Wii. Then last night, he lost connection and now everytime he tries to get connected to my network it says "Connected with Limited Access." Tried wired and no luck as well. Deleted both the wireless and ethernet drivers and reinstalled. No luck. Reset my router. Still nothing. Anyone know what I can do? I can't even connect his laptop via wired or wireless to check & d/l Windows Update to see. He has SP1 Vista Home Premium 32Bit on it as a OS. My gaming comp is connected to the same router and I can connect via ethernet cable and wireless modem no problem and I have Vista Home Premium 32Bit. In fact everything is connected but his laptop now. Diagnose and repair only says either driver/hardware related or Internet Protocol 6 and 4. Help please. Thanks.

Hi, so my laptop has been having some majors errors for the past few days. Essentially, I can start using my internet for a few minutes at a time, then I notice nothing will load, and I no longer have internet access. It still shows 5 bars in the bottom right corner for a few seconds, then changes to "Limited Access", with the little yellow warning triangle. As soon as I click "Open Network and Sharing Center", it takes a few seconds, then my internet works again. Every time I open it, it works again for a few minutes. I have to constantly do this, and it renders me unable to play games online, and such, as I get disconnected every 2 minutes.

As far as I've noticed (Haven't checked it in detail yet) , this only happens with my network, not the neighbours, friend's house, etc.

My laptop is a TOSHIBA Satellite P755 -0M6
I am running Windows 7, I haven't had this error in the past.
I'll list any details needed, if you just ask. I'm not sure myself what information is relevant, so I'll let you guys ask the questions.

Thank you very much for reading, please let me know if you have any solutions.

Hi guys.
So, for the past 3 weeks, my laptop has been displaying a caution sign on my internet connection on my task bar at between quarter-past and twenty-past (and sometimes quarter-to) of every hour.
The caution sign and "limited access" error stays there for roughly 40 minutes, so I get about 15-20 minutes of internet access before the error comes back the next hour.
I've noticed that when the connection does die, this is the connection I get from Google chrome...

"The server at --website-- can't be found because the DNS look-up failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network."

I originally thought this was an error with my actual wireless until today when I noticed that my internet worked on my phone when it didn't on my laptop.

Anyway, I finally remembered about the troubleshoot thing.
It did some tests and said that it had made some adjustments to my system, and hey presto, my internet returned again.

I've noticed again though that the "limited access" error and caution sign keep appearing again at the same times of each hour.
I am able to keep clicking troubleshoot and fix the problem, but I can see it becoming quite annoying having to do that each time it goes offline.

Hi JakeC and Welcome to Seven Forums,

See if disabling the Power Management from your Wi-Fi adapter helps. You do this from Device Manager by right clicking Computer, choose Manage, choose Device Manager, expand Network Adapters and locate your wireless adapter right click on it choose Properties then click on Power Management tab, see image attached.

If that didn't help at all please download and install Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. After the installation double click the shortcut icon from your dekstop, do a screen capture of it then attach and post it here. Let's find out if there's any interference or signal issue.

Hi there,

What's your signed up Speed with your ISP? You may post your Speedtest. Would you happen to know if there are heavy gamers or video streamers in your household?

Have you tried a wired connection?

In addition, there might be interference with your nearby wireless networks using the same Channel as yours. We can find that out if you can provide us a snip of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector.

Click here: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm to get LSP-Fix.
You may not need it, but go ahead and download it.

Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall New.Net (NewDotNet).
If it will not uninstall, or is not listed there go here: http://www.newdotnet.com/removal.html
and follow procedure 4 to remove it.

If you lose your internet connection after running the New.Net Uninstaller, Run the LSP Fix, and click Finish. Don't do anything else!

That should restore the internet connection.

Today, we bought my mother an HP Windows 8 G-Series Laptop. I have been trying (unsuccessfully) for hours to connect it to her wi-fi. If I use an ethernet cable, it will connect, however, we need it to be connected to the wireless. I have very limited experience with setting up wireless (Apparently, knowing how to navigate the internet somehow makes me a tech person >> Don't even get me started on this insanity lol) so I may need a little bit of help even with fairly simple terms.

When I run a network troubleshoot, it tells me that there were no issues detected, despite the fact that there very obviously is an issue.

The wi-fi works on every other device we have used (Computers, phones, e-readers, etc) but it appears that only this computer is having an issue.

I am going 'round & 'round with this issue. I log on as limited user account for security. However, when I am on that acct, I cannot copy files to the external HP drive - I have to switch over to the admin user account to do so. In order to use the limited account for this operation, I have read that you should disable simple file sharing, (on admin acct), then rt clik on the file u want to copy - this then opens a menu with security tab where you are supposed to be able to give full control to the limited acct for that file. My admin acct that brings up this menu has those boxes to check grayed out. Also, do you have to rt click and give full permission for any file that you want to copy? (once you have this all figured out) - Seems a bit cumbersome. Any ideas anyone?? Thanks.

Alright, Let me explain what has happened, what I tried, and my PC info..
Last week my browsers kept crashing, and so I thought it may have been a virus so I scanned with my paid AVG Internet 2013 three times. Nothing. Monday, my connection randomly disconnected, so I disconnected my Belkin USB adapter and reconnected without any issues. Yesterday was when it started to say "Limited Access". all our other laptops and devices (like this one) connect without any issue. It's just my desktop. I am really stumped, and really am grateful for any advice!!

What I have done:
-Uninstall the adapter driver and reinstalled it
-Disable the firewall
-Disable Bonjor Services
-Uninstalled the hidden devices like they say in many answers to this issue
-Run Complete Internet Repair 1.3.2.1322
I did a couple other small things I can't remember off the top of my head..

I tried to connect via wired, but I still couldn't use the internet.

I did run MiniToolbox and FSS like in http://forums.techguy.org/networking/1058284-solved-windows-7-wireless-network.html and got the following:

I tried to download a hotfix for the problem, but it wasn't suitable for my system. Any help would be appreciated.

so my school has a large wifi network on campus, yay. But I can't seem to use it. I have a wifi card made by microsoft. What happens is 99.9% of the time I try to connect to it I connect and siginal strength is "very good" or "excellent" but I windows fails to renew my IP address. I try to repair the connection a million time but it doesn't work still. It's only worked 3 times so far. Everyone else around me with a laptop can connect to the network no problem. I tried repairing the connection with no luck. I went to the command prompt and typed

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

and /renew fails.

I tried WindowsXP Sock Fix. Still nothing.
I went down to my school's "computer help desk" and wouldn't you know that it worked when I was down there so they couldn't help me, but the second I leave it doesn't work. Great, I don't really wanna stand around the computer help desk to use wifi. I think this world doesn't want me to use wifi..... any help would be appriciated. Thanks.

My wifi signal is fine, but I've been getting a yellow ( "!" ) error msg over the wifi icon and losing connection every 5 minutes or so. Some quick background....... (Recently upgraded my dsl speed from ISP provider. Same modem and wifi router, but I did reset them a couple of weeks ago, but the wifi disconnecting just recently started.)

Anyway, just did a diagnosis, and it mentioned "DNS error".

The only thing I can figure is that I had at one point a couple weeks ago connected my ethernet cable to the laptop when having issues with resetting the modem. So under Control panel-network connections-change adapter settings, I disabled "local area connection" and the "wireless network connections 2 and 3" (whatever those are?).

Oddly, for the last 30 minutes hasn't been cutting out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

I have been having this problem with my desktop computer for some time, and have tried so many things with no real solution.

Basically, the internet works SOMETIMES, and then suddenly, for seemingly no reason, it will lose connection, fail to acquire the network address, and then end up saying "Limited or No Connectivity".

Sometimes when I start the computer up, this will happen from the beginning. Sometimes when I do a system restore to a few days previously it will sort the problem, but then the problem returns after a period of time.
(My desktop computer worked fine for some time, and it has only been in the past few weeks that it has had this problem.)
So, problem:
Fails to acquire network address on one computer (in two seperate XP partitions), says "Limited or No Connectivity".
Connection works fine on laptop.
Problems also on Xbox Live (disconnecting). I am guessing same problem as desktop, but of course with less options to experiment and analyse.

Here is my network's set-up:

BT HomeHub 2.0
Desktop Computer (running two different XP's in seperate partitions, BOTH of which have the same problem)
XP-1 (SP2): Many programs installed, incl. AVG 8.0, Sygate Firewall, and Firefox.
XP-2 (SP2): Very few programs installed, fresh OS. Still problematic.

Xbox 360: Disconnects from Live sporadically, and sometimes refuses to reconnect.
Laptop (XP SP2): This is the only device that has no problem connecting to the router or the internet... Read more

I've spent the last two or so weeks attempting to fix this problem. I'll explain it to the best of my ability. If you have any questions, I'll be happy to help you help me.

My problem started about 10 days ago. Prior to this date, my service would drop, not predictably, but enough that I can remember it. Comcast has insisted there is no problem and no other computers on the network experienced this problem, so I assumed it was something local. I never made a real attempt to fix it, however, because it wasn't a big enough problem to bother me. A simple reboot would fix the problem. The error would occur most often when I was downloading media and running another program that was accessing the internet. The problem would still occur without both happening at the same time, however, so I assumed that it was a coincidence.

10 days ago, I was on the internet, browsing. I left for an hour and upon my return, found the internet was disconnected. I rebooted and, instead of connecting, an error came up. "Limited or no connectivity." After several more restarts, I was connected, but it dropped out again, with the same error. I connected looked my Wireless card up and it connected to the network.

After several days, the wireless card came up with the same error. In addition, the error was still happening with the LAN connection and it would say the network cable is unplugged, when it is clearly plugged in. I would have assumed it was an error wit... Read more

Ok, first off I would just like to say that this is my first thread post on this forum so sorry if I have done something wrong or am missing vital information. My problem is that I am trying to connect to my college campus's wireless internet. I will give more specific details in a bit. Basically, I was watching YouTube before going to class and shut down my PC before I left. I was connected to the internet then and it was working fine. When I got back is when I started getting problems. I booted up my computer as I usually do but instead of automatically connecting to my school's network, it didn't connect at all. When I go down to the wifi signal on the bottom right and choose the network and hit connect, it fails. This is what it reads: "Windows was unable to connect to (network name.)" I have tried going to Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network Connections and disabling and enabling everything and that did not work. I should also tell you that all the devices in this window have a red "X" next to them. I also tried all of Windows "troubleshooting problems." What I don't get is that my phone connects just fine, as well as everyone else on campus. I'm getting a bit frustrated because I am quite knowledgeable when it comes to computers and this sort of thing. I even custom built my own desktop at home. Here are the specs of the laptop I am having trouble with:

CPU: Intel Core i7-4810M... Read more

In the meantime uninstall all the devices from device manager and let windows find them again. (you don't have to remove the driver for now)

Lenovo notebook with Windows 7 ultimate

Okay.....I am simply trying to connect my Win7 notebook to the wireless router, but i JUST don't know which network settings are misconfigured and i have tried everything and anything to figure this out but i fail to do so.
The laptop connects but with a persistent messge "no internet access". I am sure i entered the right passkey and enabled the wifi on router configuration page(192.168.1.1 from pc).
My notebook's wifi and ethernet adapter are both set on "Obtain an IP add automatically" and "obtain DNS server automatically". The lan card on pc with win xp is also configured the same way.
I tried declaring the ip and subnetmask explicitly on wlan adapter but it still fails to connect. I don't know...the prblm is in router's configuration or adapter settings or both could be misconfigured?
I tried several methods multiple times but i am so frustrated...none of them is working.
Please help me out....

Can't remember exactly what I did but it was something to do with the ISP settings.

Hey guys, I'm experiencing a frustrating issue with my wireless connection on my W7 laptop and was hoping for some troubleshooting tips.

First off, here are the relevant specs:

- HP Pavilion dv9000 laptop computer (Windows 7 Ultimate)
- Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN (Network adapter)
- Speedstream 6520 (Wireless DSL router)

Recently, I've been experiencing a problem where my wireless Internet connection randomly goes from "Internet access" status to "No Internet access" status. Sometimes it also goes to "Limited access". The (!) yellow exclamation point shows up on the wireless icon in the right-hand taskbar corner.

I can fix this temporarily by turning the wireless switch off and back on again (I have a physical switch on my laptop), which brings back the Internet access. But after about 15 minutes give or take, the connection fails again. It is an extremely frustrating occurrence that now happens every 15 minutes without fail.

Things that might be causing this:
- Recently changed my SSID
- Recently disabled SSID broadcast to prevent neighbors from seeking out my connection

Things I've done to try fixing the problem that have not worked:
- Changing SSID again
- Enabling SSID broadcast
- Changing the router's channel (I've tried channels 11, 10, 6, 2)
- Checking the power setting on my network adapter to make sure it wasn't shutting off on low power
Any help? Thanks a lot in advance, guys. By the way, I also have an Ethernet-linked des... Read more

N series can often do some pretty strange things. One thing I see happen is the card will latch at 300Mbps but it is meant for 150Mbps so obviously it won't see the router. Look to see what speed it is reporting it has latched at. The other is if you don't have IPV6 addresses working then disable the IPV6 component of your nic in the Control Panel settings for the Network Card.

First, please forgive me if this is formatted oddly- I am typing this on my Blackberry.

For the past few months, I have been accessing the internet with my laptop's wifi through my neighbor's password-protected network (with his permission). I also sometimes go online using another neighborhood network which does NOT have a security key.

As of today, I can view networks and connect to both of these (as well as others), but I can't get online. I get the "No Internet access" message when I connect to any network.

When I go to the command prompt and type ipconfig /all, I get this for IPv4 address: 192.168.1.9(Preferred) and I cannot successfully ping any ip addresses.

I have rebooted already and renewed my network adaptor. Any other suggestions would be very welcome. Thank you!

As of a couple days ago I can no longer access my Buffalo NAS share. I have't had any connectivity issues before. The odd thing is if I use a wired connection I have no problems access the share, but over wifi I get this error:

\\Your-Drive is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

A specified logon session does not exist. It may already have been terminated.

I've read some other posts related to this error, and I've tried adding Windows Credentials from the post here and I've seen posts about using gpedit.msc but I'm using Windows 10 Home which doesn't have that (and I don't want to install a 3rd party tool). I've restarted everything (computer, router, modem, NAS) too.

Any other suggestions or ideas why it only fails over wifi?

Thanks

I am using the "netsh wlan hostednetwork" commands to create an Access Point for my other devices (e.g. phone, Roku, etc). This worked fine for 3 weeks. But, for some reason, it stopped working 2 weeks ago, and I cannot figure out what caused it

How to make your home wifi more reliable.

I have a Comcast router (few years old, not the latest one, has no native wifi capability) connected to a LinkSys WRT160N. The WRT160N wifi is turned off. My WRT160N is in the basement and serves as a connection point for several hardwired ethernet connections. I opted to use an alternate wifi source, a Linksys WAP300N located upstairs, functioning as a wireless access point hardwire to the WRT160N. The kitchen location broadcasts a much more useable signal throughout the house and property.

After much fuss trying to manage a useable and dependable wifi connection for all users, I found that only ONE SETTING made a difference in the dependability and functional uptime for my wifi:

The 'N ONLY' setting. I broadcast at 2.5GHz, N only mode, and it is now much better, no issues for weeks now.

I checked the physical cable connection from the WRT160N to the WAP300N - the cable is good. (Of course it is, I made it!) No issues with the physical connection to the WAP300N.

Whenever I used a multi -mode signal (B/G/N) it was a nightmare. Connection would fall off unexpectedly, frequently, you could even say "consistently inconsistent". If the devices could find my SSID, it seemed to be connected but the dreaded "no internet access" message would display.

I only used mixed mode because there was one older device (game console) that did not recognize 802.11n.

I tried everything else - different channels, alternate en... Read more

Hi all,
I have a rather perplexing problem with internet access from my laptop (Win 7 Home Premium, Avast Free). My property is a large building with thick, granite walls so I've added 3 hard-wired, wireless access points (2 recycled, old routers and a TP-Link WAP) in various locations back to the main router (BT Homehub 3), served by up-to 8Mbps BT broadband service (I typically get 6Mbps - no fibre-broadband available here!) Just to complicate things a little more, this is a holiday property with 4 other families staying, so bandwidth use is a little difficult to control.
Mostly, everyone has been fine: my Android phone, my Nexus tablet and my wife's iPad plus other visitors' various devices all connect via wifi from any of the access points. (Everyone had problems this morning but I think BT may have been doing something with the exchange overnight so I'm going to assume, for now, it's just my laptop that's having problems).
OK, the laptop will connect to any access point, including the main router, but generally states "No internet access" from there. I say "generally" because it has done on past visits to the property and sometimes connects briefly - usually if I reset, disconnect or unplug something. Also, I CAN connect the laptop via Ethernet from any point.
Can someone outline a process I can try to identify and fix the laptop please? If problems recur with other kit I may need help with my local network too.
Thanks,

Sorry for replying to such an old thread but I am having a problem like this.

I wonder if this problem has been fixed by a windows update but the pc I am working with has a clean install of vista home premium with sp1 and sp2 installed.

As with the problem in the op here the laptop connects to the router but displays the status local access only.

The laptop is an Acer 5310 and the router is a netgear dg834g

I have narrowed this down to being something to do with the encryption type as with encryption disabled the connection works perfectly.

If I try to configure WEP I get a message saying wps will not work if I use this.

Other methods like WPA and WPA2 claim to connect but have the 'local access only' message when the pointer is hovered over the connection icon.

Any help greatly appreciated as this is a time consuming problem but I am more curious to know how it was resolved as none of the numerous suggestions I have tried have worked.

Thanks.

No, assigning them through WinExplorer menu does not work.
But this is another problem which should not discussed here.

When I type now one of the following alternative commands at the CommandPrompt then Win7 returns me something like:

assoc .txt=txtfile

"Access denied"
The following error occurs: .txt"

or

ftype txtfile=D:\notepad++\notepad++.exe "%%1"

"Access denied"

Why?

The command above work fine under WinXP

Hi. I have a COMPAQ Presario CQ62-215DX Notebook. This laptop ran very well until the day its internet suddenly failed. When I try to connect to my WiFi connection, it says "The computer currently has limited connectivity to X". I tried troubleshooting, and it said there was a problem with my network adapter. I went to Control Panel > Hardware & Sound> Device Manager. From there, I disabled and enabled all of my adapters, but my internet was still non-functional. The problem isn't my router, because my husband and kids are connected perfectly. Is there a way to solve this issue, or do I have to get an expert to help me out? If there is a way, please state it step-by-step.

EDIT: I saw on a thread that I should try uninstalling and re-installing an updated network adapter, but how am I supposed to do that without internet?

Thank you

Use your husband's computer to download the latest driver, then copy it to a thumbdrive or burn it to a CD or DVD. After you uninstall the current adapter you can then reinstall it from the thumbdrive or disc.

Hi there,

I've been having trouble with my surface pro 3 recently where, at times it will refuse to connect to the Internet, the connections there, but it just says "connections limited". All my other devices iPhone iPad ps vita, they all connect fine, but the surface won't. It's not the wireless routers or wifi box, as I've shut them down on and off but the problem persists. I've tried connecting to a different connection but it has the same problem.

I've trawled through numerous threads and formums but to no avail. Usefully after 12hours or so it reverts back to normal, but it's happening more and more often recently. The surface is running windows 10, with 8gb of ram etc.

Help would be greatly appreciated as I'm pretty getting desperate now. (I don't know much about this kinda stuff)

Thanks so much: Lachlan h
