Laptop wifi connected to router but no internet access

Q: Laptop wifi connected to router but no internet access

Hi everybody!

I would be happy if anybody could help me solve my network connection problems. I am trying to connect my laptop to internet via wireless router and modem. It successfully connected to router there is no internet access. I have tried wire connection directly to the modem, and it worked. I also know the wireless router is working fine due to we have phones that wirelessly connected to the router, and they are also getting internet access.

Please help!

A: Laptop wifi connected to router but no internet access

I would firstly, double check security and you typed your passkey in right.. sounds dumb but has fixed many peoples errors. Also make sure you didn't block your MAC Adrees.

If still no go, turn off the router security then try to connect.

If no go try updating the drivers.

If still no go then we got issues.

When connected to (failing) wifi (from command prompt):

Post ip.txt and route.txt
You may delete both files afterwards

I've just got a New Laptop (for Christmas) So I tried to connect to the Internet...

At first I tried to connect it Wirelessly to my Router. The Laptop found my Router so I type in my WPA/WEP Key and I've sucessfully connected, it even said my connection was 'Excellent' and the Signal bar was full.

So when I click on Internet Explorer it gives me the 'Internet Explorer cannot display this Webpage' and when I try and then tells me the problem cannot be automatically repaired when I dianogse (excuse my spelling) the problem. I then directly connected it through an Ethernet Cable with the same results...

To be honest I think it's the Vista software blocking me from the Internet, I've had no problems connecting PC's with XP to the internet before.

Please help

A:Sucessfully connected New Laptop to router - Still can't access internet

Remove and reinstall all your drivers for the router or modem, then reinstall your WPA codes. Also check to be sure that has not been a firmware upgrade to the router.

I've never had this happen before. This morning I opened Firefox (version 3.6.20), which I typically use to access the web, and got the "unable to connect" message. I checked my router settings and everything seems fine. I did notice in the router settings the IPv6 connectivity is listed as limited. I'm not sure if this has changed or has always been this way. I unplugged my router and cable modem, restarted both computers and tried to access the internet via Firefox again...without success. I opened IE (version 9) and am able to access the internet just fine. Anyone know why one browser works fine but another cannot access the web?

This computer is a Sony Vaio running Windows Vista home premium connected via a Belkin wireless router to a cable modem.

Dear Friends,

I am encountering strange issue while connecting my laptop to my home wifi router. I have 4 devices connected to router and working perfectly, but my Dell laptop suddenly stopped connecting to internet. It seems to be connected to router, but says No Internet Access. This is new issue, since it was working fine along with other 4 devices in the past.

Tried doing some basic steps, like - Removing the devices from Network Center and adding again, Reset the Router, ipconfig /renew ipconfig /release..but nothing works.

The funny thing is when I do a USB/Wifi Hotspot Tethering using same wifi with my Android phone, the Dell laptop connects to internet.

So, Its clear that Wifi Router is Good, Internet is Good, Laptop Network Card is also good, but something else is wrong. Please help.

OS - Windows 10(The same issue was there in Windows 7 HP before installing Windows 10)

Okay I live in the dorms in college.(well actually they are not the dorms but overflow apartments because the dorms were full, not sure if it matters but thought i should add) I brought my wireless netgear router with me to school to plug my Ps3 into and to download certain things the school blocks on the regular wireless internet.

So I plug my router into the jack in the room and then run wireless to my laptop and wired to my Ps3. I set up the router and it determined the internet connection is DHCP . I set the router to obtain I.P. and DNS addresses dynamically and it won't work. then i set it to use static addresses. ( the address that it picked up dynamically ) It then works for awhile, sometimes a few hours and sometimes less than an hour. To get it to work again all I have to do is set it back to dynamic wait a couple minutes and move it back to static. When I lose connection my playstation says its a DNS error.

my roommate plugs his laptop directly into the jack on the wall because he doesn't have a wireless card and he hasn't said anything about losing his connection. But once i plugged him into the router he loses his connection just like me.

I am sure i am forgetting something important if anymore info is needed I will add. Please help it is really getting annoying changing the setting on the router

I bought a Cisco Valet M10 wireless router a few days ago and I have been having issues where my laptop says that it is connected to network and it shows maximum strength signal, but underneath the network name it says "No internet access". I have already contacted Cisco several times and also HP, as well as my ISP. I was told by someone from Cisco that Atheros (which is what my laptop has) has some problems with connections to wireless routers and I was told to manually update. I already tried and it says that my driver is already up to date. The internet connection on my desktop is fine so I don't think the issue is with my ISP. I have an ipod which is not having any connection issues, thus making me think the problem might be with my labtop and not the router. I connected the ethernet cable directly to my laptop and the internet works fine that way on my laptop.

I live in a 2 story house and my desktop is upstairs and I noticed that when I took my laptop downstairs, that it would loose internet access almost every time, but a while ago my laptop lost connection and I had it in my room which is right next to where the desktop is so now I don't think the problem has to do with the range. Sometimes it works when I am downstairs, but mostly it does not.

So how can i fix this problem? This is very frustrating and I feel like just returning the router.

P.s. the OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

A:Laptop losses internet access, but says "connected" to wireless router

Try your laptop with your friends router. This proves if the problem is related to your laptop.

When problems occur ("no internet access"), can you still access the router configuration?

If you had McAfee you will want to run it's special uninstaller tool.

McAfee Removal Tool - McAfee Uninstaller

A few problems I noticed at that you have 2 Msoft Virtual WiFi mini port adaptors enabled, you should disable both of them as they aren't used unless you set up a hosted wireless network.

Another possible problem is that you seem to have a default gateway showing up where the DNS servers should be.

Is there secondary router in this network or did you type the default gateway into the DNS settings for some reason?

It may help to type the DNS servers into the routers settings then remove the entries from the IPv4 properties.

It also appears that you typed a DNS server into your WINS at the IPv4 properties, WINS isn't used much anymore so removing that entry might be wise.

I have never run into this before.

I have a dsl modem/gateway (actiontec) which i use to connect to the internet

when I connected a Linksys WRT54G v.4 router to my laptop thru RJ45, WITH wifi disabled on the router, I lose connectivity to the internet on the wifi connection.

I'm used to XP with independent connectoids. Looking at the properties on each connection, they appear to be correct.

Has anyone run into this on Vista?

I thought surely by disco'g the wifi on the Linksys Router it should just be a standard wired connection.

both routers are setup for DHCP. Is that what's confusing Vista?

weird. appreciate any help. I am so out of troubleshooting ideas.

Hi guys,

Bought my new Sony Vaio today that of course came with Windows 8. I have completed the setup and installed Norton 360 and Office and tried (unsuccessfully) to uninstall McAfee. Now when i boot up the computer the WI-FI connects (with a full, four bar connection) however, when i try and open IE or the store, I get a connection issue saying there is no internet access.

I am using the same Wi-fi network to post this on this forum, so it seems the issue must be on the Vaio side, what do you guys suggest?

Hi guys, I have this problem that's been giving me a headache these days... I have a Dell XPS L502x with Intel centrino n6230 in tow.
Well, the laptop was working fine and all but started to have this weird connection drops in my work now and then, I blamed the router. Then it started loosing connection in my home too, it shows that the WiFi is connected and when I hover over the WiFi icon it says "internet access" but whenever I tried to access a webpage it won't connect... I blamed the network adapter and tried reinstalling and reinstalling the drivers and changing settings but none of it worked.
It literally is driving me crazy, but before I refresh the system I wanted to see if you guys can help me out!
Thanks in advance

A:HELP! WiFi connected but cannot access internet!

If you really do have internet access you should be able to ping a DNS server located somewhere outside your network. open a command prompt, Start > run > enter "cmd" and hit enter. type in "ping 8.8.8.8" if you get a response in replies you know that its technically working and connected to the internet.

Why can't you uninstall McAfee? Did it get all tangled up with Norton? Tried the McAfee Removal Tool?

Hi,

I'm sure this question has been asked multiple times because I myself have read countless posts trying to figure out my problem and solve it, but nothing has seemed to work for me. I have an HP G60-230US laptop and a Linksys router. It says my laptop is connected to linksys but it has a limited connection. It will not connect to the Internet and I can't open the Internet at all. I got an error saying that it was unable to communicate with the Primary DNS Server but I'm pretty clueless as to how to go about fixing this.

Thanks in advance!

I have been trying for some time to accomplish the title result. I'm not techie enough to do it.

What I want is to be able to use a Tablet to read in the rear of my home (which is out of range for incoming wifi signal.)

If I can set up the computer to do this, I will cable connect to a router in that area.
I have two computers and could use either.

1.a PC running XP (should update to windows 8.1, but have never bothered to do that, since XP works just fine. (I had this computer sharing to the router, when I had DSL internet connection, using Windows wizard to set it up) Couldn't get it to work when I switched to WIFI internet access) I could switch to win 7 or 8.1 if that would help.

2. a Lap Top running WIN 8.1,

Any help is appreciated.

The rest of the computers in the house work fine on the wifi and I double-checked the securtiy settings (WAP2 and all that) and it seems fine. What can I do? The C-prompt message shows you neither have an IP or a connected adapter. Try deleting your existing adapter configuration and reconnecting from scratch. Also, when done run ' c:\ping google.com -t ' or replace google.com with anything else. Also try a Wired connection to figure out if it's a SW or HW problem.

Have you tried an image restore for that computer you are having problems with or doing a re-installation of operating system? Save any data you might need from that computer before doing this.

Hello there,

Im encountering this strange problem for a couple of months now and at first i thought it might be an ISP issue.
But i realise it may not be.
The wifi icon occassionally has an exclamation mark on it indicating no internet access despite being connected to the network.
When i run my mouse over the icon, it starts identifying with the network and i get access back again.
I notice it drops after i leave the PC dormant or dont move the mouse. This has disallowed me to download anything large without disconnecting halfway.

Has anyone experienced this before?

A:Wifi connected but Internet access keeps dropping

First off what OS are you using? You specified Windows XP. If you are using XP, you are in the wrong forum. We need the full system Spec's on your machine. That means you will have to download Speccy from Speccy - System Information - Free Download

If you are using Windows XP. You can get help at the sister forum Windows XP Forums

Okay, so yesterday, I came home to find that my computer could not connect to Google.com, even though my WiFi was shown as connected with internet access. Skype couldn't connect either. Actually, to be specific, the internet would be accessible for a couple mines at a time, though it would be slow. Another computer in our house is having the same issue, but my tablet does NOT. I take my tablet with me to school. Anyway, I've perused the web for any solution, and have found none. I have tried...

Static IP
Flushed DNS
Reset TCP/I (something like that)
Rebooting
System Restore to before issue.
Virus scan (clean)
Disabling Local Area Connection in favor of wireless area connection

I am unable to release and renew my IP, since it says no action can be performed while media is disconnected. I cannot think of anything else. Oh, and since I'm on my tablet, fetching the ipconfig /all would be a bit time-consuming.

Please help!

I'm having an issue with 1 of our laptops, Since yesterday haven't been able to access websites. I'm able to connect to our wifi but no internet access. I tried rebooting router, unplugging router, renewing ip addresses. In the past had a windows xp laptop that used to get conflicting ip addresses with 1 of our other devices. But when this would occur it wouldn't actually show as connected to the wifi, it would just say acquiring over and over.

Sometimes if I reboot the laptop i can get to a site for about a minute, then after that I'd lose the connection.

Any ideas? No issues with our other computers, devices.

My notebook Dell Inspiron N5010 running Windows 7 Home Basic did not get internet access inspite of being connected via wifi network. Tried connection via cable, same problem. After visiting Tech Support Guy forum and resetting winsock and ipv4 and ipv6 without success I got to a solution just restoring the system to a point some two months ago! While in the restoration process I've been informed about programs installed in between that would require re-installation. Thus, I came to that the "no internet access" problem was due to one of the removed programs. I will try to determine which was the villain by reinstalling them one by one. If I got to the devil one I will report here.

I use a wireless network in the home for media centre purposes (PS3, 2 pcs) and i use a 3g usb modem on the pc that i require internet on whenever that maybe. Problem i have is that when the WLAN is up and i connect to the 3g modem i cant see anything on the internet. Is it something to do with the default gateway? or is it something with my browser? gonna check right now if i can ping and work out if its possibly DNS related will post back in a sec. Ta.

EDIT: It appears to be DNS related as i can ping 4.2.2.2 but if i ping google.com or .co.uk its not getting a response. Where should i be looking to resolve this?

EDIT:
This is a grab of the ping while both wifi and usb are connected and then the succesful ping is the wifi disabled. What on earth is going on here obviously the ip address is completly different on the succesful ping could this be something to do with a proxy??

A:Solved: When i have wifi and 3g usb modem connected i cannot access internet

Your first suspicion (Default Gateway) is almost certainly the reason. When Windows has a choice of Default Gateways it chooses the wired over the wireless. But if they are the same type--both yours are wireless--I don't know if the selection is random or if there is an algorithm.

Anyhow, the solution is your situation is to assign a static IP to the Wi-Fi connection, leaving the Default Gateway and DNS null (blank). The IP you choose has to be in the router's IP range but outside its Dhcp server's address range.

Hey everyone, sorry if this is in wrong area.

So today I bought a secondhand computer. It's a Toshiba Satelite L875D-S7230.

When I connect it to my home wifi it connects no problem and says 'internet access' when I hover over the icon. However when I open open google chrome or internet explorer and type in a site, it takes a little while then says this page cannot be displayed or this web page is unavailable.

The guy I bought it from says he had no issues. And I know it's not the internet because I'm using the internet to post this from phone.
I've tried a few ideas that worked for other people on other forums like using cmd box but to no avail.

Has anyone got any idea why the computer is being such a turd?? Can anyway give advice on how to fix the problem? Thank you all so much!

Hi - I'm having almost the the same problem as http://forums.techguy.org/networking/1052022-connected-but-no-internet-connection.html but this time my modem/router is properly connected to the internet.

I have Windows 7. What happens is that after a while (even if I'm using the computer, so it doesn't go to sleep or anything, but perhaps if I haven't accessed the internet during this time), I can no longer access the internet.

The WiFi or cable LAN indicator says that I am still connected - and the other computers in the house are all still connected and can access the internet - but when I try to access a web page or connect to my mail server, I get a message "cannot connect to the internet, click here to diagnose the problem".

If I run the internet troubleshooting utility, I either get:
1. No problems have been detected with your internet connection; or
2. Please reset your router and then click next to continue.

Obviously, there is no need for (2), because everyone else can access the internet - however, I did try this just for completeness.

The TCP/IP settings are all set to auto-detect. I did try deleting and reinstalling the internet adaptor device (which reset the configuration to the original default settings), I tried setting the power setting to "don't allow computer to switch off device", I tried changing the (laptop) power settings. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting from the internet, switching between wireles... Read more

Only when my laptop is connected directly to the modem, I have access to the internet (but ofcourse no wireless). How can I fix this problem?

A restart will not cause any problem like that. Maybe you were switching devices connected to the modem and forgetting to power cycle the modem when switching?

I am aware that this is a common post here but I have a unique problem. At night (roughly 7pm-3am EST) the Belkin N router I am connecting to runs great and grants me access. When I wake up at roughly 8 or so, no matter what I do I cannot receive internet. I can access the router page at 192.168.2.1 but with no avail to my situation. The security log gives me this.
DHCP Client: [WAN] could not find DHCP daemon to get information
DHCP Client: [WAN] Send Discover
DHCP Client: [WAN] Send Discover
DHCP Client: [WAN] Send Discover
DHCP Client: [WAN] Send Discover
The OS I am mainly tweaking this with is Vista Home Premium. Although I have tried with an XP laptop and XP laptop with usb dongle with no success.
Repeating over and over again.
I have tried restoring factory defaults, resetting the router. Everything short of a power cycle because the router is across about 15 feet of water from me. It stays connected to the modem because I have cleared my use of this router with my neighbors. Anyone have any ideas?

According to your ipconfig you should be online. I'm guessing that the either winsock or the network stack is somehow messed up. If that is the case then resetting them should fix the problem.

Save the file below, unzip then click on the .exe and let the file run until your machine reboots. Report back and let me know what happens.

I am really hoping someone can help a complete technophobe!

Current set up all worked fine for years (wireless Netgear router, ISP AOL ) until I changed my phone provider to AOL last week. On the day of the switch I lost my internet and have not had it since.

Countless calls to AOL, line checks done and all showing as clear. Technician out today and no internal
faults found.

The internet light on the router is flashing orange, occassionally turning green but not holding. Router problems have been ruled out. Laptop shows communication with router but there is no internet access.

This can not be a coincidence, I am sure something has gone wrong on the day of the switch since that is when the problem started.

I am in really close range of the exchange and technician said I have good conectivity and wondered if there was a conflict issue somewhere.

Any suggestions.

I've recently gotten a new internet service and router (Netcomm NB16WV). I connect to wifi easily, however, at random times, I will lose internet access despite still being connected to wifi. After about 10 or 15 odd minutes, internet access would normally return (restarting the router also helps). This problem has been occurring for the past month every day.

I have attached a screenshot of Xirrus running while I am unable to access the internet. I run 'connection test' a couple of times while it's down, and it always shows a 20% - 100% ping loss, and sometimes the DNS lookup fails (but most of the time it just says % ping loss).

I have internet connection right now.

Thanks in advance!

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver from the laptop manufacturer's web site.

Try these two tests independently, and then together if neither helps ...

Try channel 1 (also requires setting Channel Bandwidth to 20 MHz).

Try with encryption disabled. If this works then try WPA-PSK (not WPA2).

Hello there,

I'm having a real hard time keeping a steady internet connection, I'm lucky if I get 15 mins losing internet, then I have to either reset or disconnect and reconnect again... very frustrating..

so before posting here, I tried many, many solutions but no luck. (TCP log reset etc., changing DNS server, deleting the networ and the network location and re-adding, did a virus scan but nothing showed up, I re-installed and tried to update the network card, multiple restarts and tweaks, deleted some softwares....)... but NOTHING!
I feel like a doctor who cannot figure out a diagnosis or the patient will die! Literally because if this does not work soon I will throw away this laptop..

Vista64, HP HDX18, Intel 5100 AGN network card < (very problematic from what I read)..

Now when I connect via Ethernet cable it's fine!
ALSO, when I connect my Android phone to the same wireless network I get perfect connection and I can stream YT videos while my laptop struggles to open a page

Please share some tips ore ideas that might help!

Thanks and much appreciated.

Hi everyone,

this is my problem: My laptop is connected to the router but when I try to open any website it says "Website not available.". On other laptops and on my phone the WiFi works just as usually.

What happened before: I tried to solve some other problems on my laptop. I run the Ccleaner, Malwarebytes and deinstalled a few programs, as far as I remember it was mainly Yahoo stuff.

What I have tried so far: Turned my internet off and back on. And even disconnected and reconnected that way that I had to type the password in again. Trouble-shooting says that there is a "problem with the wireless adapter or the access point" but it also says that it is solved then. And after another trouble-shooting "The problem could not be identified.". I've done a system restore. I tried ipconfig/release , ipconfig/renew and ipconfig/flushdns. Nothing changed.

Please donīt only advice me WHAT to do but also HOW to do it. Make it as foolproof as possible, please. Thanks in advance!

A couple days ago i noticed that my wireless internet had been running slower than usual, so i thought i would try resetting the the router, which is a D-link DIR-655. After the reset, I am no longer able to connect to the internet through wireless. I have 1 desktop PC wired to the wireless router which can access the internet but my other desktop and two other laptops which rely on the router for internet can no longer connect to the internet. They can still detect and connect to the wireless network but they just cant get onto the internet.
Also, after the reset, the desktop pc that is wired to the router has a strange connection now, which is a PPPoE connection. When connecting with this connection, it brings me to a username/password screen which i had never seen before previous to the router reset. I have verizon DSL and usually it would connect automatically but now i have to connect manually through this new connection. I think the problem lies in the router but i cant figure out a way to solve this problem. Any guidance will be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Have you contacted your internet service provider to determine if there's a problem on its end?

It may need to send a signal or reboot your modem/router from its end.

Now my PC was receiving the internet connection with no problems. I was playing happily on WoW when im called downstairs and i find that the family PC can't access the internet. Now i dont know why this might be (other than me stealing all the bandwidth..) but i check the router connections, and its fine, since mine is working upstairs. But no matter what website i try, i get a "page could no be displayed" error. Now what could possibly be causing this? My setup goes like this:

ISP > Router ----[usb to family PC]

My PC via Ethernet

I'm using tiscali 2mb broadband. Checked network connections and its shown as connected but i can't seem to get the pc downstairs to connect..

..any advice?

apologies if this is in teh wrong section (again!) but i figured its a networking problem, as the hardware appears fine.

I am having issues with connecting to the internet on one of my computers. I have 2 others that will connect, one wireless, and the other is wired. I have tried physically swapping the wire with the working computer and that did not help.
I am running Windows 8 Consumer Preview
IE10, Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Outlook for email. None of these will connect.
When I ran the IE 10 Diagnostic I would get the error of "The remote device or resource won't accept the connection. Detected"
Since then, following advice from other threads, I have reset the winsock and ipv4 and ipv6 using the following commands:
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log
After restarting the computer, I found that this made it worse. I still can't connect to the internet, but now it does not even show that I am connected, and I lost my Network name. (Before it said that I was connected to the internet, but I could not access it)
I cannot access my router from the problem computer, but I can from the one I am using now. It shows that I have DHCP server enabled and an IP address of 192.168.10.1 and Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

When it was fully booted up I was able to connect to my router and have an apparent five bars connection but no browser or programme can access the internet, although everything else in the house can access the internet so it's something to do with the pc.

When I try to connect to a website my browser (Google Chrome) says "Unable to connect to the internet" with the error code "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET". I am using an HP Pavilion dv7 with a Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230 network adapter trying to connect to the wifi router on campus from my dorm room. The routers are placed in the common areas, so I do not receive a very strong signal in my room, but it works good enough for my Android phone to connect just fine and have a reasonable speed. My laptop on the other hand, which works fine in the common areas with good signals, at times struggles to get internet. I have episodes where I can connect just fine and receive sufficient speed, but then at other times, I connect to the wifi but I cannot connect to the internet. I click Diagnose on the Wireless Network Connection Status, which runs and claims to find an error which is fixed by resetting the wireless adapter. Rarely does this actually fix the problem though. I am curious as to what could be causing this spotty internet connection with my laptop, when my phone always works just fine. Could it be something with HP's default WLAN manager? I read something about updating to Intel's wifi manager but I could not get the update to work with my Windows 7 64-bit OS. Does anyone have some insight that can make my laptop connect better?

Hey guys, I have had a recent problem with a new xfinity router I just got where my Inspiron computer running Windows 7 is connected to the router, but says no internet access. This happens often when I am browsing the web or watching a video, but not so much when I am not using the internet. The problem fixes itself usually in about 1 minute or so, or I can disconnect and reconnect to the router to fix it. I also have a problem where my laptop disconnects from the router every time I shut the case. Neither of these seem to happen on other devices connected to the router. Thanks for all comments.

Another thing that seems to be happening is, after I do shut the laptop, when I open it again a little popup shows up in the bottom left saying that no network adapter can be found, and the network thing on the taskbar says no network connections can be found. This goes away after maybe 2 seconds or so.

My desktop recently broke so i bought my first laptop. I have AT&T DSL and i bought a new D-Link DSL-2640B modem/router so i could have wireless internet. I called for help on installing it and i was able to use it with the ethernet cable, however when i tried to use wifi, it worked for only about 2 minutes before it disconnected.. Now when i try again it says that it is connected (full 5 bars) but it also says there is no internet access and i cannot use the internet. I need help fixing this problem.

Also, before, with the old modem i was able to just connect the ethernet cable to the laptop and just start using the internet. Now i have to connect by putting in my username and password provided by my ISP almost like if it was dial up. I don't know why i have to do this now but not before.

please help, thank you

Hi there,

I have a hp laptop, it's about two years old. I can connect to my wireless network, but i have no internet access. I also have a macbook, and it's accessing my wireless network perfectly fine.

My router does not have a password ( yes, i know, pretty dumb of me)

Any help is highly appreciated,

Thanks in advance.

A:Windows Vista- connected to to router, but no internet access

You should assign a login password, but if you don't allow remote management it's not too important. Just be sure to have your wireless secured with at least WPA-PSK and a strong passphrase.

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (including Radar, Connection and Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Also show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hi there!

So I have begun to encounter this super weird problem since the past two days.

I have a wireless router that I use to connect three devices to the internet. Two laptops and a phone. I've had the same internet connection for the past 1.5 years and everything has worked just fine.

Off lately, my laptop won't connect to the internet only in my room. Everywhere else, it works just fine. But the minute I enter my room, the connection changes to 'Unidentified network' or 'No internet access'. I tried bringing the other laptop in my room and that works perfectly.
What could be the reason for this?

I have been scouring forums on the internet, but couldn't find any resolution.
I tried re-installing my wireless drivers but that didn't help. Tried troubleshooting and the problem couldn't be fixed.

Please help!

would you post the following tests when the internet is working OK, and then repeat ALL the tests when the internet disconnects.
Make sure you also indicate on the reply which tests are for what condition.

ipconfig /all

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
Note: you will see entries named Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: we dont need to see that information - JUST the infomation above those entries

Please help. I know very little about computers. Please excuse me if I explain things wrong and use incorrect terminology.

I hadn't used my laptop for a while, and yesterday, it didn't come on when I tried to turn it on. I ended up taking out the battery, then holding down the power button for 30 seconds. The laptop worked fine after that, and I was able to access the Internet. When I went to shut it down, it said that it had updates to install, so I told it to install the updates and shut off when it was done.

When I started it up today, it seemed slow to get to the Toshiba screen. It looked liked it was still installing updates, which I found odd because it had shut itself down yesterday after installing all of them (I thought). I shut it down again after the updates (or whatever that was) had completed, and I was able to access one site very briefly. However, now I can't access the Internet at all. The Internet Explorer page comes up for a few seconds and then closes again to the Toshiba page. When I check my connection, it says that the Wifi is connected. I can't figure out why I can't access the Internet. Please help.

Edited to add that I'm using Windows 8. Also, I just tried to scan with Norton, but the scan won't work.

Hi all.

Got a problem that i need help with.

I have a Netgear DGN2000 router wired to a desktop machine running windows 7. In another room i have another desktop machine running windows XP. I have a netgear WN111v2 network adapter connected to this machine. The network adapter says it is connect to the router, the icon in the bottom right hand corner is green and the signal strength is in high 90%s, yet when i start up internet explorer the message i get is "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".

Also, in the house there is a laptop running windows 7 (connected wirelessly - no problems) another laptop running windows xp (connected - no problems) and an Xbox 360 (connected ok).
Been on to netgear tech support all they could suggest was to lower the security settings on the router, ultimately lowered down to disabled - still nothing.
Disabled homegroup on the windows 7 machine still nothing running out of ideas now. Can someone out there help please?

Cheers

This has probably been asked but I couldn't find anything directly relating to my problem. Last week, I lost my internet, called my ISP, and it was a problem with the modem. They replaced the modem and since then my wireless router has not worked. I assume I had a power surge that blew both the modem and the router. I "borrowed" my mother's router, same brand, but better model, which the laptop has been connected to before. I am still getting connected but it's saying that there is no internet access. The lights on the router are either a solid orange or blinking orange. I have already tried the resets, changed the IPv4, moved the router around, ect. I have full wired internet but I am running into and tripping over the cords running all over the house(running to laptop, PS3, iPhone and iPod). There is no support for the routers(both are Belkin), unless I pay $40 for a 15 min phone call. My aunt does IT and figures it's something in the house stopping the wireless signal from being picked up but she's not 100%. Like I said, both routers have been used for all my devices before. Is there any settings that I could look into? Factory reset did nothing either..
Any help or advice would be great!

A:Wireless router is connected, no internet access, power surge?

Don't expect a useful replly when you so seriously short your help of valuable facts. For example, the router has many lights. Exactly which one is orange. And then quote the router manual where it says what orange for that one router means.

You post is even vague about what connects to what. Does it work wired but not wireless? Do computers talk to each other but not connect to the internet? Do wired computers connect to the internet? You did not even list he model number so that others can discover needed facts that you withheld.

Every light even has a specific name, a specific function, and maybe various colors. Orange means different things for different electronics. What does the manual say a flashing orange light means? And what do the other colors for that light report?

My laptop can connect to my DSL modem/router via ethernet cable or wireless, but none of my web browsers (IE and firefox) can access any websites regardless of the type of connection. The same router also serves a desktop computer and that PC can access the Internet perfectly fine. Yesterday, I brought my laptop to a friend's place hoping he could help me, and when my laptop was connected to his router via ethernet cable and by wireless, the laptop was able to access websites via both types of connections. This loss of Internet access started last Friday evening. I do not remember changing any settings for any devices. What could be the problem?

The laptop is 3 days old and access was fine till today after installing Windows updates and then Norton 2009. After installing Norton I installed the updates which seemed to go OK. There was a message telling me to reboot, which I did, and then Windows did not want to load. I had a message about rebooting from a disc, and the system did some repairs (system restore?).
Since then i canot access the internet either by wireless or by plugging the modem directly into the laptop. The signal strength is good, but there is"limited connectivity" I have used all the windows repair tools, looked on Google and am at a loss.I also did a system restore back to when i did the Windows update.

What I need to know is if I were to purchase a wireles router connect it to the desktop by lan cable and the laptop via wireless PC card would I be able to access from either computer at separate times? Also if I want to use both computers and share my connection so that both computers can be online at the same time would I need to use, say the desktop as sort of a server? I have no networking experience as you mght have guessed.

By the way I love my wireless access! I have a 512/512 (SYNCHRONOUS) service and I actually get 504/509 all the time!

If your ISP connection is Ethernet, you should be able to connect it to a broadband router and share the connection. Without knowing how the wireless ISP service is configured, it's pretty hard to know for sure, it's not something I've ever used.

I have a Dell XPS M1530 running Vista Home Premium. At work (I work for a public university), it shows me as being connected to the wireless but when I try to access the internet through either IE or Firefox I get an error saying either "cannot connect" or "page load error." This started on Thursday evening (4.16). A few other times something similar has happened but rebooting worked.

What I have tried so far:
1. Disconnect and reconnect to the network.

2. Disable and then enable wireless.

3. Disable wireless card, run Norton av, then Defender (both clean), reboot and enable wireless.

4. Uninstall the driver for the card (Dell WLAN 1395 wireless card), reboot and then reinstall and reboot.

5. Uninstalling the updates I had installed the day before it started doing this.

6. System restore which gave me the error message: "System restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed. Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore." I have tried this from 4 different restore points with the farthest back being 3.31.

eta: forgot about this one. 7. Ran disk error check.

Currently trying, running command prompt as admin for system scan.

I can include a screen capture of what the network and sharing shows if that would help. I would really like to avoid doing a PC restore but I have done a back up of my files just in case.

Today my laptop says its connected to the home network but no internet access. I tried reseting the modem and router but no success. I try to troubleshoot and it says the firewall might be causing the problem so I disable it and no luck. The only other problem it finds is that the DNS server is not responding.

I connected it directly to the router with a cable and same results, DNS server not responding. I then connected directly to the modem and again DNS server not responding.
I checked the tcpip settings and ipv4 and ipv6 are all automatic. Even tried to connect to hotspot through phone with same results. DNS server not responding. Anyone know how to fix that? Thank you, Steve

Morning,

I am currently having a problem with my friend's eMachines laptop. At some point a few weeks ago, it stopped connecting to web sites via browser, although he had a strong wireless connection at home.

He brought it in to work for me to take a look at. I don't have access to the router as it is the company wifi network. The problem has to be with the laptop anyway as my personal laptop and ipod touch are both connecting to the wireless network and loading web content with no problems. I have tried a few things with no results and I don't mind starting from scratch in case I missed something.

Below I have posted ipconfig /all for his machine connected wirelessly, as well as PING for his machine's IP, the default gateway, the DNS and yahoo, IP and domain. Below that is the same tests run with the computer connected via cable to the network. In addition, I have added the same results from my personal netbook, which is functioning correctly. Any help would be very much appreciated!

I was at a home today and connected to their private home network on a Surface Pro 4. This showed their network as Connected. However, the internet kept going to a local open BT network instead! I couldn't select this open network anywhere to exclude it. Thinking about it now, I should have disabled/reenabled Wifi first, and then tried a reboot after that. But otherwise, is there any hidden setting to ignore certain networks?

A:Using 'open' access Wifi point instead of connected private wifi.

Hello and welcome to the TenForums

If the home where you were had a BT hub then it most probably was offering both an open connection also known as BT Wifi or BT Fon and also a secured wifi connection which would have an SSID number with a BThub name with some random numbers and letters. It is possible that you connected to the open one and were then automatically directed to a BT broadband page on the internet to pay for use of the BT hotspot service that they provide via customers routers. I spent 1h with tech support to no avail. They've just started me on reformatting the hard drive.

We have wireless and I've had no problem connecting my now ancient Windows XP desktop, the iPhone, or the Blackberry. The wireless itself checks out. Encryption key is entered, connected, no future problems with any of these devices, the newest being a year old.

This laptop (Windows 7)....I can't figure it out. It says I'm connected, but at the same time, it says I have no internet access. There's an inability to resolve the IP address.

It contradicts itself. In the wireless manager it says it's connected to my home network, which is properly named. Then it also refers to the wireless connection as an "unidentified connection", and directly below that says "no internet access".

I disabled all the Norton crap that came with the computer to ensure that it wasn't interfering with the connection, no changes.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,

I've been having this particular problem as stated above in the topic for quite a while now. There are 4 computers in my house that connects to the internet through my computer. (wireless)

Internet access is available to 3 of the wireless clients, but my father and brother will not be able to access the internet when I have my laptop connected. It says limited connectivity when this happens to both their laptop and computer.

I'm using a D-Link 524 Wireless Router.

Can anyone help me on this issue here?

Thanks!

A:Computers in my network are unable to access internet when my laptop is connected

Describe your network.

What kind of internet access do you have? How is the router connected to your computer? Are you using ICS, bridging, or some other software?

You say that 4 computers are getting internet access through your computer, but mention 3 using wireless that have internet access and 2 others that do not. How is the 5th computer getting internet access?

have been using my laptop on my wireless connection for a couple of years. All of a sudden, I can't access the internet with it. My wireless icon in the corner says Wireless Network connection connected and the strength is very good. I tried to let the computer obtain the ip address and the dns automatically and have put the numbers in manually. Neither has worked. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite running Windows XP. The router is a Verizon Wireless Actiontec Ml1424-WR. I've tried using it right next to the router and it still doesn't work. I've tried rebooting the router with no luck. This morning i tried to use other devices (another laptop, a cell phone and an ipad) that were working fine before, but now they don't have internet access. The devices can connect to the router, but internet shows "No internet". I was checking if their were getting the info like ip, dns..etc and they had it so have no clue what's going on. The only 2 things that do not have problems is my laptop and a WDTV Media Player.

Ever since i've gotten my lynksis wireless router, it had always worked, but the connection was never very stable. It would drop the connection every now and then, and then i'd have to reset the modem... which was no biggy. But a week ago my internet dropped, and ever since then it's given me the message "You are connected to the access point, but the internet could not be found" The other night, i actually got it to connect, i'm not sure how.. but i was connected for a good 45 mins, and then it dropped and went back to the same old message.. Has anybody else had a problem like this and know how to fix it? Well if somebody could help me out that would be great Thanks

Hi All,

Have tried to figure this out from a few posts here but my situation always ends up different. I have an i-mac that i have no troubles with, it connects via WiFi or a wired connection, with which I am using to post this. I also have a fairly crappy asus netbook with windows xp that i really just want to muck around with. It connects to my wireless network fine with great signal and what not but will not connect to the internet.

What I have tried : going into command prompt to ping. I can ping my computers IP address with no problems (not sure if this even means anything just saw it on another post) but there is no Default Gateway displayed when i >IPCONFIG /ALL. Im wondering if this may have something to do with it as I saw a suggestion to PING the default gateway in another post.

dont know if im heading in the right direction or not? any help from anyone that knows what they're doing would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

I know this is a known problem that many have had. I have tried to find solutions through other posts ive read online but I can still not resolve this issue.

I can connect to the internet via the WLAN cable and it works fine. However, I would prefer to have freedom and use WIFI instead. But I can only connect locally. I know a bit about trying to fix it but I am no computer wizz kid so any help would be greatly appreciated.

The strange thing is I can connect to new networks sometimes ok on WIFI but others I get this problem I have mentioned.

The network I am tryng to connect to is one at home which is new.

My home computer will connect fine to the internet, as will my iPhone and my family's androids. And just yesterday, my laptop was working fine when I wanted to use the internet. Last night, I was on YouTube, when my internet just started failing. So I opened Steam, then Skype. Neither worked. So I just shut it off for the night hoping it'd fix itself. It hasn't. I tried one suggestion of changing my router time, that didn't help. I also tried simply restarting my router. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
