No volume control for line out with Sigmatel driver

Q: No volume control for line out with Sigmatel driver

Orig. tried replying in No volume control for Line In (Sigma Tel) but could not since the thread is too old.

I am aware of this new thread: Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version but am frankly afraid to download and install anything new from Sigmatel.

OK, enough preamble. Problem was that it seemed that "intermittently" (ie, between boot-ups) I was able to/not able to get to the Volume Mixer/Volume Control utility provided by the Sigmatel drivers and accessible via the speaker icon found in the lower-right-hand corner in Windows Explorer. [I am on a Gateway ML6228 laptop (an oldie but a goodie... well, maybe...) w/ Vista 32-bit, SP2, for anyone who cares.] Thus I could not adjust the volume from Windows Explorer, but only from my media players (which support a much-more limited range of volume as we all know).

I am guessing this is a bug/oversight on their part but this appears to be the issue: If on bootup when the S'tel drivers load they detect an output-receiving device, such as speakers or a headphone, they suppress access to the volume control. I have no idea why they might do this but that seems to be the precipitating factor. If you boot up however with any and all audio output-receiving devices disconnected from your machine, you get the familiar Volume Mixer/Volume Control utility back in the lower-right corner of Windows Explorer.

This is really dumb, but there it is. One could go nuts installing and reinstalling drivers all day to no avail. I am lucky to have stumbled across this seeming fix and hope this post saves others time and grief.

Beside the Microphone part, it says "Line-In" and it's muted. I'm just wondering what this is.

A:What does line-in mean in Volume Control?

Line-in is an input (normally stereo) that accepts a signal level as would be supplied by an audio component such as a CD/MP3 player or tape deck, or a music keyboard, much higher than microphone level.

Whether it's available may depend on how your sound is configured - for example the mic and line in can share a single socket and you set which one is operative in the sound card's control applet. Other cards have an input socket for each and mic and line input can operate concurrently.

Is there a way to control volume of the Line In ? I have Sigma Tel HD Audio Codec and when I go through all the control panel maze to get to it and click on 'Properties' there is no level control. Apparently Realtek must have a volume control (?). If the Sigma codec can't control the volume of Line In, can I change to a realtek or something else?

thanks

A:No volume control for Line In (Sigma Tel)

Hi laffitte and welcome to Vista Forums

The audio controls are installed with the relevant audio driver, and it depends on what the manufacturer decides to include, although it is unusual for there not to be level controls for available input devices. You cannot change the driver to any other make as the driver software will not be compatible with the hardware. Here is a link to the Drivers & Downloads page for your laptop.

Hey guys,

I have the Soundmax audio card that comes with the Asus P5N32-E motherboard, I have my Xbox 360 plugged into the 'Line In' socket however I wish to control the sound level, I don't see it in the mixer, like in XP, any ideas?

Edit: I found out you can change this when going onto Control Panel -> Speakers -> Properties -> Levels however is there a way to easily display the Line In volume control in the mixer?

(See photoshopped image below)

Edit 2:

I was also wandering if it was posisble to use another free space in my sound card to plug in my wireless headphones?

It is a 7.1 sound card and there are only 4 in use, so I was wandering if it was possible to configure one of the spaces to be used for my headphones?
Thanks

Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 7 on my notebook PC. I had to use a Microsoft installation disk because unfortunately, serious errors resulted after I installed from the HP recovery program. Consequently the HP drivers that were installed automatically with the recovery program weren't installed on my system. I had to install several of them from the HP support site. I got everything to work except for the Touch volume control, or the Volume Scroll Zone as referred to by HP in the service guide. This is the device located just above the keyboard that increases or decreases speaker volume when you drag you finger on it. I installed the Quick Launch button driver but that only applied to the mouse and pointer touchpad. I looked at the devices listed in my startup configuration. I saw the synaptics pointing device and the HP quick launch buttons listed. So is the IDT PC audio driver.  What am I missing? Where I can I find it to activate the touch volume control?

Anyway, do I have to use a sigmatel driver or can I use something else. It's a Sigmatel C Major HD one, by the way.

Dell XPS 410, sigmatel high definition audio codec, 6 speakers.

Like many others, I used to have the audio hiccup playing wma files with this configuration. I could either have the hiccup or eliminate it by disabling audio enhancements, which meant only two speakers played. Then, after many months I managed to find a sigmatel driver that fixed the problem. I don't know which one it was.

I recently noticed that I'm back to two speakers again. I've just updated to the latest sigmatel hidef audio codec driver (6.10.5866), but this hasn't solved the problem. One of the auto updates must have overwritten the driver that worked.

Hi

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 running on Windows 7 Ultimate. I have been facing an issue with my Sigmatel Audio Driver for windows 7. I tried re-installing the drivers many times but problem still exists.

The issue is that sometimes when a sound event occurs, may its the 'exclamation' sound or the the low battery alarm or when I change music tracks in Windows media player, a kind of crackling noise is heard before the sound event is played. It is like the sound of the previous track was in the buffer and the last portion(Few milli seconds) in the buffer plays back. Anybody heard of such issues in windows 7?

Is there any settings related to audio buffer in windows 7? I am sure it has something to do with the driver or settings bcoz I also have windows XP in my machine and it does not have any such issues..

Can anyone please help me out!!! Its so irritating especially when I change music tracks.

I am having problems with audio drivers in windows 7 x64 ultimate with my DP35DP motherboard. I need a driver that detects front panel and outputs audio with it without crashing audiodg.exe, thing is, my motherboard's back panel audio jack(the green one) is messed up and only outputs the left speaker and the right speaker is muted so i cannot use the High Definition audio driver because it does not detect my front panel audio jacks. ok so this problem was just about from the beginning. i thought i would be patient and it would go away. at first i noticed that while using msn messenger, its volume control for voice chat controled the main volume for the whole pc. so if it was low things wouldnt sound as high as i wanted. no matter if i adjusted the main volume in the control panel, which was always set to highest, the volume would still be at the mercy of Msn M. so if it was lower than usual i would have to sign into msn m and adjust it. not only does this happen with msn m. it also happens with web video applications used by youtube, livevideo, etc etc! those arent usually the culprit of low sound. its usually just msn m. even now with live messenger i have the issue. im tired of being patient so here i am

My post about the crackling audio is pretty much solved. I need to use the "sigmatel high def audio DRIVER not the codec for things to work the way they should (recording, playback etc.)

the problem im having is. When i install the sigma tel audio DRIVER it works but when i restart to complete it it reverts back to "sigma tel audio CODEC" and thats a problem.

right now.. ive got the driver installed WITHOUT restarting and im looking in the device manager and it says the audio codec is there (not the audio driver) yet im using the audio DRIVER to record and such.

if i restart it will revert to the codec

A couple days ago my sound suddenly stopped working for no reason whatsoever. I go and google some stuff and I see that a load of others who also have an Inspiron 6000 with SigmaTel C-Major audio card had their sound quit on them randomly with no explainable reason. But, here's my thing, it doesn't say that the card doesn't exist, it says that the drivers aren't installed. So, I go to the dell site and download SigmaTel STAC 975x AC97 driver for Inspiron 6000. I start the install and after a few minutes it will stop and says my card doesn't exist on this machine. But before I installed the AC97 one, I accidentally installed the HD audio version. That one found my card and recognized it and installed. But it installed through Windows Update and then installed through it's own executable and said that the card doesn't exist blah blah blah... Anyway, the sound still doesn't work.

(error given through add hardware) The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

1) Ummm.. are you certain of your Dell model?
=> Go to Dell support. Click Drivers and Downloads. Click to Enter Service Tag number then allow the option to let Dell search your computer to tell you the right model and drivers

2) When you run Windows Update are you clicking Custom? Do so and make sure all the critical AND all hardware optional updates have been applied.

3) If after above you still have problems, let's take a look at just what Device Manager is complaining about

First make sure all your devices are connected and powered on
Click Start->Run, enter: msinfo32. Click the + sign next to Components to expand it
Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?
If yes, click on it, Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy it, Ctrl-V to paste into next post

So we all know that Dell disabled basic features for the Sigmatel sound card. Namely the ability to choose "Wave" or "Stereo Mix" or whatever you want to call it in the recording control. I've had too many headaches trying to figure out how to fix it, so now I'm coming to you. I've tried various drivers that people have suggested, and so far I haven't found one that works. Maybe one of you can help me figure out exactly what driver I can use to get the "Stereo Mix" input.

I'm using, again, a Dell XPS 410 with Windows XP MCE. The device calls itself "Sigmatel High-Definition Audio Codec," and as I recall it is a STAC97 device. Is this enough to go on? Because Virtual Audio Cable just isn't cutting it.

Thank you in advance.

HI

I have a dell dimension 3100 and it's using a Sigmatel High Definition Audio Codec.

I have had several unsuccessful attempts at resolving a problem with it.

Some time ago some of the windows components associated with it such as the audio mixer and volume control (that I think were in the accessories menu) have disappeared...

When I go into my system devices I can't change anything from here either as it says I don't have the software or certain files installed on the machine and i need to reinstall them from 'add/remove windows components' but they are not listed there.

I can't find any downloads or driver updates to replace them.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hello :)
I hope I put this in the right area..

I've been searching for a solution to this volume problem for a while now, but to no avail. I've found others with a similar problem, but no solution. So here's the deal: I just got a new motherboard, and ever since I got it my volume control has been faulty. First of all, all sounds are very quiet, even when all volume sliders are set to maximum. Next the main volme control has no effect whatsoever on the volume of the computer. I can can slide it all the way to the top, or all the way to the bottom, nothing changes. The only thing that makes any difference is the Wave control and it barely does anything. Also, when I put "Mute all"...it doesn't mute. However when I put mute for Wave control, no sound comes out.
All this is incredibly annoying because I often listen to music on my computer, but now I basically can't hear it. To note: I don't have a volume control on my keyboard, or on my speakers, and I know nothing is wrong with the speakers.

If anyone could help, I would really, really appreciate it. Thanks :)

I have an older P4 2.8ghz Dell Dimension 3100 that currently has Windows 7 installed. Apparently the driver is the Sigmatel 97xx C-Major audio according to support.dell.com - the first thing I tried was the Windows Vista driver listed on Dell's site. Unfortunately that did not work. The driver appears to be installed and I have a sound device however I have no output through the speakers. I'm sure it is a driver related issue.

The device enabled, the speakers work and are hooked up properly.

Any ideas where I can find a Windows 7 driver for the Dimension 3100 using the onboard Sigmatel 97XX?

Hey there. First post to this place.

I have a Sony laptop, PCG-8W1L / VGN-AR290G. I recently had to reinstall Windows XP MCE for some reason, but didn't want to use Sony's restoration CDs. I installed from Windows XP MCE OEM CDs. I install every driver available from Sony's website, I get no error message, I have no exclamation point in the Device Manager. Sound works ok, every device works great. But as soon as I tried a windows shutdown/reboot, it freezes at "Shutting down".

Uninstalling the sound drivers (Sigmatel 92xx) fixes the problem, but I get no sound. I tried different builder's drivers, but nothing works.

Anyone knows a fix for this?

[quick edit]

Forgot to mention I am using a fully patched version of windows. Since the OS is in french and Microsoft didn't release yet SP3 for french versions, I cannot test if SP3 fixes this.

So basically, I wanted to watch a youtube video. When I played it, there was no sound. Thinking it was a simple volume problem, I checked the video volume, the small icon on the taskbar, and even went into the control panel to adjust the volume settings. I thought it might be my headphones, but I tried using the speakers and neither worked. I tried doing the voice playback, and then I could hear my voice. I thought maybe it was fixed. Played the video, no sound. At that point I thought it was my sound card. I didn't want to replace it, so I kept trying to look for a better solution. After much frustration, I managed to make my way into the volume control. Start - Control Panel - Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices - Adjust the System Volume - Audio - Sound Playback: Default Device: SoundMAX Digital Audio - Volume - Wave. I saw that the Wave option was all the way down, and moved it up. After moving it, I could hear the video crystal clear, so I closed all the windows I didn't need anymore. Well, after about 30 seconds, the volume shut off again. I went back into volume control, and the wave bar was all the way down again. I raised it, and closed the window. I was looking for the apply button to become available, for I had assumed that not app... Read more

Hi

Thanks

A:Help with volume control-very quiet, main control unnefective

Do you have any other soundcard-like devices like a USB headset?
Do you have the latest drivers for your soundcard installed? Please check the motherboard maker's website.
Did you get some special program with the motherboard drivers that would give you more control over sound than the Windows standard volume utility?

I'm running windows XP on an old Dell Inspiron 1501 and I'm trying to get my microphone to play directly through my speakers so I can record them both simultaneously. The only answer I've been finding is to tick the 'microphone' checkbox in the volume control playback properties panel, but I don't have a microphone checkbox. There should be a 'microphone' box under SW Synth and CD player but I don't get one apparently.I've downloaded the latest SigmaTel Audio drivers from Dell and despite not having a problem with them before this, I'm inclined to believe that they're the problem. Any ideas?

A:No microphone control in playback Volume Control panel

Okay well of course I find an answer right after posting the topic:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/t/19295458.aspx
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/p/18112824/18235810.aspx#18235810

Those two pages detail how to get an Input Monitor checkbox which functions just like the microphone one I wanted (although you can only mute it, not alter the volume). I used Instructional Set 3 from the second page, having to add the 'RecMonitorMute' entry as detailed in the first page and I can now hear my microphone input directly through my speakers.

HOWEVER, I'm still unable to record both the microphone and speaker sound at the same time. I thought recording the 'Stereo Mix' channel with the microphone coming through the speakers would work but it isn't and I don't know why. Any ideas?

Hi I have A Dell XPS 420 with a Sigmatel Stac92XX C-Major HD Audio Driver and I was running Windows Vista X64 SP1 and everything was working fine.

I just recently installed Windows 7 RT Build 7100 and the Generic High Definition Audio Device Driver Installed and all types of media play, but it's causing a crackling sound in my audio and not only that it actually corrupts the file so if I were to play a MP4 on my XBOX 360 it also has the crackling noise even if the file was originally fine.

I don't know the last Sigmatel Driver that was on my Vista Build but I tried a few of them and even tried in Vista install mode but none of them work & I tried all the codecs packs that I always install and still nothing.

What should I do and is this a driver problem that's causing the crackling noise and corrupting my files or is their something else to this please help because it's driving me crazy?

Move to a later version of win7.
The corruption of mp3 and mp4 files was fixed after the RC.

I'm having trouble tacking down an audio driver for my Dell Inspiron E1705/9400. It has a Sigmatel 9200 HD Audio Codec.

As Indicated from device manager
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801CD&REV_1022

VEN 8384 - Sigmatel
DEV 7690 -9200 HD Audio Codec
SUBSYS 102801 - Dell

The audio card is able to output sound however while playing back any prolonged audio, ie music, the playback is unacceptably interrupted with digital artifacts such as skips and pops. This behavior is experienced using a variety of drivers. All drivers have been uninstalled using device manager and then the system has been rebooted before installing the next driver. Also all of the other dell recommended drivers have been installed without a hitch. Finally all windows patches are up to date.

I started with the driver provided by Microsoft and continued to try the recommended driver from dell, R171788. I have also tried the following additional driver packages from dell, R108276, R147073, and R171789.

Additional Information:
OS: Windows 7 x86 Home Premium
Dell Service Tag: BSCDK91

Thank you for any input!

I am being offered Service Pack 1 via Windows Update since a month or so - even though I have what I think is an incompatible audio driver, SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC, version 6.10.5511.0. I have read that this version can cause SP1 to fail or kill the sound, if it installs. My sony-vaio laptop is less than a year old, an Asia Pacific model: VGN-FZ25G, 32-bit system. Sony-Vaio does offer an update for the audio driver, 6.10.5614.0, but the installation instructions say that I have to remove PC cards beforehand. I don't know what is meant by PC cards; are those usb sticks or something? It also says:
---
If a previous version of SigmaTel Audio or IDT Audio exists, uninstall it from Add or Remove Programs of Control Panel.
---
I've got a SigmaTel Audio listed in the add/remove programs list. I am also supposed to reboot after removing the driver. Won't Vista recognise that the driver has gone missing and try to reinstall it?
And who says that the latest driver will be compatible with Windows Update if the thing offers me SP1 NOW, when I'm sure I've got an incompatible driver? I simply no longer understand what is compatible or incompatible with SP1 anymore at this rate.
Anyway, I don't know what to do - let SP1 install anyway, or not install SP1 at all, since I have read rather nasty things about SP1 killing off the computer and making it unbootable/unusable. Is it REALLY necessary to install that pack?...

but sounds not to include:

3. Display Card: Mobile Intel? 965 Express Chipset Family

Thank you very much

A:“SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC” driver for “Windows 7 64bits”,

SigmaTel was purchased by IDT about 5 years ago and rebranded IDT. Some older SigmaTel devices will not work with the newer IDT drivers.

Do a internet search for IDT drivers, but no guarantee they will work.

The generic Windows installed basic function HD Audio Codec drivers, if installed may be the best you can do.

I've just installed Windows 7 on my Dell Inspiron 6000. Most everything is working great, but the audio icon says "No Audio Output Device is installed".

Device manager shows "Multimedia Audio Controller" under Other Devices, but the Update Driver button doesn't find any drivers.

Before I installed I checked and saw that it's a SigmaTel C-Major Audio device. I downloaded the recommended driver (9524859.exe), but when I run the installer it says "Device Object not present".

I also tried running the installer in XP SP2 compatibility mode, but got the same response.

I saw there was another post where a user was able to get it running, but no mention of what driver was used.

Thanks in advance!

mmmm....actually i've had a very similiar problem....not quite sure how i fixed it though. Try updating your drivers for your soundcard, that might help. Also(obviously) go into control panel, and mess with things from there. Also, do you have any errors with any sound drivers of any kind? i know if....kind of nuke some of mine(stupid me) with an anti-adware program....if you have that could be part of the prob, and those usually aren't to hard to fix, just take a little time.

I'm having problems with a new audio card. The volume from line-in is extremely low.

I'm positive that "Line in" is selected in the recording mixer. I've even slid the volume control all the way up! But, the volume is still barely audible. However, the output to my speakers is fine.

I originally installed one card, and it too had this volume problem. To rule out the card as faulty, I exchanged it for another of the same type. But, the problem still exists.

Is this a problem with the card's design? Or is it my outdated system? Creative Labs does not offer any driver updates for the card or any ideas for troubleshooting.

The Creative support site seems to have some problems, so I'm going to ask here.

After installing the new drivers for XP, Windows sometimes boots up with line-in volume _very_ loud. The sound is also very distorted, as the sound card is obviously being pushed to its limits. This is occasional, and goes away when toggling digital output on and off (this is how I know it's the sound card's fault).

I can't put back the old drivers, because the original CD that came with the card doesn't have XP drivers and the new drivers do give a good performance boost.

The problem is very annoying, because when the radio tuner kicks in during startup, everybody in two-apartment radius will jump up in the air, look towards my room and think something very rude. I'd like to solve this problem before they go from thinking to saying or doing.

Hi everyone,

I noticed the volume of my music was not as loud as it was in the past when playing CD's or MP3 files with Windows Media Player 10. I had the volume turned all the way up in Media player and also in Realtek HD Audio Manager, but the sound was just not anywhere near as loud as it was before. I recently un-installed "Discover stream hub / Discover.exe" and thought that this might have had something to do with it, but that does not seem to be the case.

I decided to try to play an mp3 file with Realplayer and found that with the volume turned up in realplayer, the mp3 files sounded normal again, plenty of volume.

What surprised me is that if I close Realplayer with it's volume control turned up, then open the MP3 with Medial player, it will sound normal in media player, (plenty of volume). If I turn the volume control in Real player all the way down, close it, then play a file with Media Player, there will be no sound at all.

Somehow, the volume control for Realplayer is effecting and overriding the volume control for Media Player. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how this might be happening ? Has anyone else ever experienced this type of thing ?

It's not a big deal now that I found out what was going on, but tracking down problems like this can drive you nuts. It seems crazy that the volume control from one program would control the other, I'm just wondering what might be going on. I'm using Windows XP Media Center Ed... Read more

A:Real Player volume control also controls Media Player Volume ?

Hi John

The reason that this happens is that when you change the volume in real player, it changes the 'Wave' volume for the whole system. I don't pretend to know too much about this but basically, real player changes part of the system volume which also affects the volume in media player. To see this for yourself, open Real Player and then go into Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices under control panel. Click on Advanced Volume Controls under the 'See Also' heading on the left. There should be a column labelled 'Wave'. If you now change the volume in Real Player, you will see this changing also. As a result, it changes the volume system wide. Hope this solves your confusion.

I'm using an xbox360 kit to run my 360 through my monitor. I'm running the audio through the line-in of my computer, then through my comp speakers. For some reason, when I restarted my computer, my 360 audio volume was really high to the point it was cracking and distorting on my speakers. I've turned line-in level through volume control and that helps but doesn't completely fix it. I know it can be fixed because I've had someone get it to work before. Is there a way to further adjust line in volume? Or is there any way I can use a program to auto-adjust it down?

Using a Dell XPS 410 with windows 7 if that is any help

Thanks

Also: Just turning down the volume slider doesn't fix the problem, it only lowers the volume of the already distorted sound.

Try taking the audio chord out of the line-in and restart the computer. I think it has something to do with it being plugged in during startup.

I have an audio source connected to Line In and I use the volume mixer to un-mute the input when I want to listen to the audio from that source. I recently started having a problem where after re-booting Line In does not show up in my volume mixer and I do not hear audio from the Line In Source even though I have listen to this device active. (during boot up I do hear the audio for a fraction of a second)
To get Line In to work and show up in the volume mixer again, I have to go to manage audio devices under control panel and select the record tab. from there I can see Line In and I see that it is set as the default device and I can see that there is audio based on the indicator bars to the right of Line In. I then have to go to the Listen tab for Line In and uncheck "Listen to this device" and click on Apply, then Check "Listen to this device" and Click Apply. After doing all of this the Audio can be heard and Line In appears on the Volume Mixer until the next reboot where I have to perform those steps all over again.

I have the latest drivers and all MS updates for Windows 8.1 on a Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD5H Motherboard with Realtek R3.87 Driver dated 5/13/2014

What could be causing this ?

A:Line In is missing from Volume mixer after reboot

Have you tried setting the System Mixer as the default recording device? Then whatever is input will be heard. You also need the System Mixer to record audio from the internet.

This problem started just last night, I was working on changing the three audio jacks into 5.1 surround outputs. After I was done, anytime I clicked on the normal volume icon, either right or left click, it pops up the "Line In Properties" dialog.

On left click, it also shows the normal volume adjuster, but hides it after about 2 secs, preventing me from sliding to adjust volume. I am also inhibited from opening the Playback Devices, Recording Devices, and Sound options that show up with a right click of the icon.

As it is extremely frustrating to have to navigate through the Control panel every time I want to change sound levels, I am hoping someone can help. Thanks in advance!

A:Line In Dialog when Tray Volume Icon is Clicked

Well, a little more changing of sound options shows that if I change my mic input (which the L/R Surround channel in 5.1) back into the Line In designation, the pop up problem is gone. I guess since I don't use 5.1 often, this is an ok fix, but if someone can fix it completely I would be much obliged.

I have Xonar D1 with Windows 7 x64 using Sound Forge 9.0e to capture audio from Line Level inputs (LPs played on stereo system).

The recording level maxes at -12Db to -15Db. This of course artificially restricts the dynamic range. All settings are maxed in the Xonar D1 control panel as well as the Windows Sound control panel.

All drivers are current.

This problem has beem reported by others on the internet with Xonar cards.

I have searched and tried many things suggested. None have worked.

Any ideas?

A:Line Level Input Recording Volume LOW / QUIET

-12 to -15 should be more than adequate for recording. I generally record in that range in my recording studio (using Sonar X1). This allows headroom for whatever I want to do. Sonar has the ability to raise the levels as I need them for final mix and exporting.

Record in 24 bits if you can (and then export/save the final file as 16 bit).

I have had this computer for about 6 months now and when I bought it, everything seemed to be OK. Then without any warning a little set of symbols would appear when I was on line. I contacted H.P. and they had never heard of it. The symbols are usually a small circle with solid arrows at various places around it. After some examination it appears that this device is an aid to scrolling up and down pages. Depending on the position of the mouse pointer the page scrolls up or down and left or right at speeds depending the distance the pointer is from the symbol. It seems to me that this improvement might be OK for some but when the page roars off to some other page at high speed leaves me somewhat angry. The point I make is, how can I turn the damn thing off so I can get back to normal surfing?

I had recently bought a new computer, really nice and all. There was one problem though--when I played songs the vocals didn't play, only the background music. When this happened I freaked out until after just messing with the Volume Control a little bit I was able to fix it. Now that it's fixed I realized how much fun I could have singing to CDs without having the vocals! (yes I'm weird I would enjoy that) How do I change it back to the way it was? I've tried muting random things but it doesn't seem to do anything. In fact the only thing on the Volume Control that seems to do anything is "Wave" and the master control all the way to the left. I remember when I first looked at it a few of the other ones were muted. Anyone have any idea about what I'm talking about?

When I want to change the volume etc with the Windows Volume Control thing, master volume doesn't do anything. It doesn't matter if it is set to mute or not, or if it's turned all the way up or down. The only thing that works is "Wave".
You can choose to put the volume icon in the system tray, so you can click that and change the volume from there, but it doesn't do anything there either.

Hi all,
My MC has been working great until recently, suddenly the volume on the remote has stopped working.. but the keyboard and task bar volume control is working fine. The channel selection up and down is working fine.. but the volume just recently stopped working from the remote. Anyone know if maybe theres a service in services that may have something to do with this feature? Seems all functions of the remote are working fine.. just cant adjust the volume from the remote. Any ideas would be appreciated..I'm not sure what services would be related to the remote for MC.. I did alot of tweaking in services from the vipers list...I am wondering what if any might have changed the remote..again.. thanks for any help.

Hi Guys,

anyone know if its possible to get an on screen volume control when you are playing music. At the moment I can only see how to start and stop music from playing.

I can turn the volume up and down via my keyboard but would like to do it on screen via my mouse.

If I drop to my old windows desktop (which I'm desperately trying not to do) I can control it with the speaker icon in my taskbar but I can't for the life of me work out how to adjust volume on screen.

Cheers

ok. I have windows XP. (sadly enough). and...I decided to run disk clean up. And well apparently it was decided the following are no longer worthy of being on my computer:

*Games (the bundle of games like solitaire)
*IE link in status bar and desktop
*WMP link in Start Menu
and most importantly...
*Volume Control in system bar

...and when i go to control panel -> sounds and audio devices...

the checkbox IS clicked for display in system bar. so i uncheck it, then check it, and...it tells me...it's not installed.

...

freaking DISK CLEANUP uninstalled my volume control. wth.

well i've managed to get the IE links back...i've decided i really don't use the WMP link, but the volume control and games I have not. could someone help me? any help would be appreciated, thanks.

A:Volume Control

You could try doing a system restore to a point just prior to doing the
disk clean up. **See link below
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...emrestore.mspx

Or

Do a sfc /scannow *see the below link
http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

Those would be your best options.

I have an Acer laptop with Vista. Is there anyway to boost the volume. I got a head phone splitter in for watching a movie on a plane and it just kills the volume. I know I could probably get head phones with a volume booster but thats pretty inconvenient. Thanks

Somehow I have lost the speaker volume control icon in the system tray and can't control the volume anymore. Anyone know how to get it back?

A:Volume Control

The Sounds and Multimedia control panel has that option. Look for a small check box that says something like "Show volume control in task bar." and make sure it's checked.

Hello all. I have a Gateway MX6455 laptop, with Windows XP Media Center Edition, SP2. I was disabling some services and I seem to have disabled one that I would like to enable again, but I can't find it.

Typically, when I change the volume (on this laptop, it's FN + PGUP/PGDN), a large, neon green volume bar appears on the bottom showing how high the volume is, much like on a TV. But now, when I change the volume, I don't see the bar, so I'm not sure how high or low the volume is.

The volume control works, I just can't see what level the volume is at. This is probably something I could deal with or get used to, but it'd be nice to get it back if possible. Does anyone have any idea what process controls the on-screen volume level? Thanks in advance!

Hi. . .

Look in msconfig for un-checked boxes.
START | run | type msconfig

Look under start-up first, then services. If a service needs to be re-enabled go into services.msc.

I would say it is most likely a Gateway program as some laptops have the green horizontal volume bar and others don't.

Regards. . .

1.)Download HijackThis> http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip or http://www.s92400163.onlinehome.us/hijackthis.zip When downloaded extract it & run the program.
2.)When its open click -scan- and when its finished click -save log-. Save it to a place you will remember.
3.)Locate where the file is and right click it, choose open with, and click notepad.
4.)When its open in notepad go to -edit-, and -select all-. Right click and copy, and paste it in your post.

Hello, i'm currently using internet explore 8. i was wondering if there was a keyboard hot key to lower and raise the volume on youtubes player... Feedback would be great thanks...

A:is there a hot key to control the volume...

A single keystroke could not work as how would it know if you wanted the volumn up or down? At the bottom left of the You Tube Preview window is the volumn slider. Just rest your curser on the speaker icon then it's no great effort needed to slide that back and forth!

My volume control icon disappears from the system tray every couple of days. If I go to 'Sounds and Audio Devices' in the Control Panel the "Place volume control icon in the taskbar" will still be checked even though the icon is missing. The only way to get it back is to uncheck the box - hit apply - then recheck it and hit apply again. In my Taskbar Properties I have not selected "Hide inactive icons" nor "Group similar taskbar buttons" nor "Hide the Taskbar". This isn't a major thing until you open an email and have music blasting at you and you can't mute it or turn it down quickly. Any ideas will be appreciated.

A:Volume Control

check the start, control panel, taskbar and start menu and see if hide inactive icons is checked . If so , uncheck it.

Something's wrong with my Volume Control. It was fine until one day, while I was listening to music on youtube.com, I couldn't hear the song after 2 minutes.I restarted the laptop, but the volume didn't work. I opened the Volume Control and saw the wave turn down to 0 although I didn't do anything. I turned it up to maximum and continued listening to music on iTunes. Two minutes later, the wave turned down to 0 again. It continued turning down to 0 after every 2 minutes. Moreover, when I turn the wave up, I heard the sound of the advertising although I didn't use the internet. I use Firefox, but Internet Explorer popped up some websites. I don't know what's wrong with it.I used Malware and McAfee to scan for virus, but no virus was found.I don't know what to do

I am having some problems with my Volume Control on the taskbar. When the Desktop or most programs are being used, it works rapidly and normally.
However, when I am surfing the Web and wish to adjust the volume of short videos (trailers, streaming, etc.) or audio, it either does not work at all or becomes extremely slow in opening for adjustment. Most of the time the video or audio is over before it finally decides to open and allow adjustment. I have never experienced this problem before so have no idea of how to troubleshoot it. All I know for sure is that it didn't act this way in the past. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

I have an Inspiron 3521. out of no where, a black rectangular box showed up on the top left of my screen. The volume icon on the task bar show an x which I believe is mute. When I  try to increase the volume, it starts where I want it, then slides down to 0 volume and then mute. I cannot get rid of the black box in the left corner and when I go to raise the volume there it also slides back down to 0 and mute. I uninstalled Realtek and re installed and same thing is happening. Can anyone help me.
Thanks,
