HELP: Expanding Dell Computer

Q: HELP: Expanding Dell Computer

How far can you expand your average dell computer?

hey all, could someone tell me if i can change the motherboard in my factory dell vostro 410 desktop, so that i can replace it with a motherboard that is SLI enabled?

If so what motherboards should i be looking for, is there a specific one due to the size of the case?

Also, being a dell computer i realize your limited into what your changing, does that apply to the PSU and CPU?

Thank You, look forward to your replies

A: HELP: Expanding Dell Computer

The case is standard ATX size so a standard ATX motherboard will fit. Find one that is SLI enable. Since you are switching the motherboard out, why not build a PC from scratch? You'll have to look in the case but the PSU should be interchangeable.

I have no idea what is going on with my system.
I try to install a program and get an error message saying that it is unable to write to C:\Users\[MYNAME]\AppData\Local\Temp
So I open Windows Explorer and check the attributes for that address and all is OK but every time I click on the Application Data folder it seems to replicate itself over and over.
One error says that there is not enough space when I have over 65Gb free on that drive.
Any ideas?

A:Like the universe, my AppData Folder keeps expanding & expanding

The Application Data folder under AppData is a Junction point, which is just a pointer to AppData. So when you click on Application Data you are actually expanding AppData, so you are in a never ending circle.

Confusing for sure. From what I understand, this was done to support compatibility with older software that expects an Application Data folder to be available.

Here are two very good articles on Junctions as used in Vista and Windows 7.

I love the Windows 7 Start Menu, and its versitality astounds me at times, but the inability for the "Computer" menu to be completely expandable cripples quite a bit of my productivity...

This problem does not exist with the personal menu, which quite frankly I could care less about completely expanding.

In general, Windows 7 has seemed to abandon the concept of expanding menus which can actually make things much much quicker at least for me, but I have gotten a separate toolbar working in the taskbar, but this seems inconvenient coming from someone who has always used classic menus on the Start Menu.

Don't get me wrong, I am very GLAD that Windows 7 makes such improvements to the way the start menu functions and in general these improvements have greatly added to my efficiency, but this really cripples someone like me!

Any suggestions?

So over the past 2-3 weeks I kept noticing that my battery kept dying even though I would shut it down (yes window > shutdown) the computer with a full battery. The next evening I would power up and see that the battery was at 20% from full charge. This is a BRAND NEW as in <2 months XPS 9550. I checked my event log and WHAT THE H@#$??? It is absolutely filled with Dell Foundation Service and Dell Product Registration events all saying  " Power event Handled Successfully by the service." Clearly it is not.. The stupid things run every 10 seconds. So when I think I am powering down my computer, it is being blocked by these services and actually just going to sleep... but it actually isn't sleeping. Its waking up every 10 seconds. Can anyone PLEASE help me determine the issue. Apparently according to update service everything is up to date.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with Windows Vista OS. I have a Dell 926 printer interfaced to it via USB. Printer driver is installed and the printer does communicate at times with the computer and does a good job printing. However, intermittently when trying to print a document I'll get a message on the computer that says that communication has been lost and print job failed.

I've checked all connections to make sure they are solid and no debris that might cause this.
That has not corrected the problem.
The other thing that happens is that the document I want to print will stay in the print queue/spooler and if I shut the computer and printer down and restart both it will print the job. And it may continue to print jobs but it's just a matter of time.

Needless to say this is frustrating. I can print several jobs in a row with no problem and then I'll get this "communication has been lost between printer and computer". And I have to go thru the procedure above to get the last job printed.

My wife doesn't understand how this works and will try to print the same job several times with the commo problem and then complains when it won't print.....and then they all print when the above procedure is followed.

Any ideas what is going on??? Any fixes??

The short version of my question is exactly what the topic says-- Can I install a Dell-provided OEM version of Vista on a non-Dell computer?

But, here's the wordier version giving context, if anyone's interested.

About 10 months ago, I guess, I got a Dell Vostro that came with Windows Vista Home Basic. However, I had no interest in Vista (because I already had a Windows machine) and the very first thing I did was install Ubuntu on it. I still have the Vista reinstall disk, though, which, to my memory, hasn't been used.

Now I'm planning on getting a barebones system and upgrading what I see fit. For the time being, I'm going to use the Windows 7 RC, but I'd like to get the uber-great upgrade deal that they're having to pre-order either the Business or Home Premium version upgrade. So, to do that, I'd need an XP installation or a Vista installation. Is there any reason, legal or software-related, that I wouldn't be able to install Vista using that disk that came with the Vostro?

I heard somewhere that sometimes if you try, it'll say something like "This is not a Dell computer, you evil, evil person" and refuse to install, so I wanted to make sure before I pre-ordered the upgrade. I don't want to get the upgrade and have nothing to upgrade, of course.

The Alienware Aurora worked beautifully for 3 days and then would not start. In the 8900's,,, got the blinking amber lights on the start button. Tech is coming to replace motherboard. What the heck is happening? Could it be the monitor... or the external hard drive or what? Come on Dell,,, what's up? I have a Dell XP Laptop as a back up using the same external hard ddrive.

Was given a Dell Optiplex 360 that I found out after getting a nasty virus had a bootleg XP OS
I also did not have any disks with it. I had older disks for a Dell 4600 that I used to wipeout the hard drive and install the new OS. Everything works fine except that I can not load any of the drivers from the second disk, (it was a 3 disk series)
thus at least at this point not able to connect with my cable internet. Cable people told me I needed the drivers.Any suggestions or can it just not be done.
Thanks, Al

A:Loading Older Dell OS To Newer Dell Computer

You will have to go to the dell website look under support and then drivers and downloads for your model of computer. If you use the service tag number on the computer it will make sure you get the correct ones you need. For future reference so you wont have this hassle again burn all of the drivers to a cd so you will be all set the next time.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530, XP PRO, SP3, about a year and a half old. Almost since I first got it, every few months or so, when I boot up it hangs on the Dell screen. When I turn it off and reboot, it is fine. I use Rebit to back up everything on an ongoing basis and have an extended warranty from Dell. Is there anything I can do about this, or should do? Thanks for your help.

A:Dell computer occasionally stuck on Dell screen

I would run a memory tester

Download the prebuilt ISO, burn it to CD as an Image, boot from that CD and run the memory test for a couple of hours or overnight to stress test the memory.

One day my Kaspersky Antivirus told me that the file svchost.exe is trying to download a strange .exe file from the net, which seemed to me as a virus, so i concluded that the file svchost.exe had been infected by a new kind a virus ( kaspersky couldn't fix that)

the question is : How can I restore the original svchost.exe from the windows 7 disc through the system recovery ( booting from installation disc), because when i tried to extract it by using 7-zip extractor in win32 environment, the virus could detect it and then infected it again! so i need to restore it from the environment which the virus can't be activated. Good Morning All,

We have an AIX server that is used as our e-mail server (Squirell Mail). The /home directory is filling up quite rapidly. We cleaned it out once a few months back by getting rid of a lot of e-mail that were obviously just old. That dropped it down to 60% used or so. Now it has krept back up to 99%. I'm told that there is a way to tell how much each directory has been allocated and whether there is any room to expand. Basically I need to know how to check this and then If there is room to be expanded into how I resize the /home directory into that space. Thank you all for your help. As you can tell I am a unix beginner at best. Thanks again.

A:Expanding the /home on AIX

Well, for disk usage there's du command (-g, -k or -m parameters make the sizes easier to understand). lsfs should list the filesystems and give some general information about them.

Resizing /home depends on the filesystem used. I found this as one example for AIX.

However, I've never used AIX myself, so I don't know much about the details.

Just started using diskkeeper and after analysis it said that the MFT usage is 99% and that i should increase it. I heard there was a way of increasing it in regedit if someone can help me thanks.

A:Expanding the MFT (MasterFileTable)

In the right pane, look for the value named NtfsMftZoneReservation. If the value doesn't exist, you'll need to add it. Select New | DWORD Value from the Edit menu. The new value will appear in the right pane, prompting you for a value name. Type NtfsMftZoneReservation and press [Enter]. Double-click the new value. You'll then see the Edit DWORD Value screen.

The default value for this key is 1. This is good for a drive that will contain relatively few large files. Other options include:
2—Medium file allocation
3—Larger file allocation
4—Maximum file allocation

To change the value, double-click it. When the Edit DWORD Value screen appears, enter the value you want and click OK. Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn't give any clear guidelines as to what distinguishes Medium from Larger and Maximum levels of files. Suffice it to say, if you plan to store lots of files on your workstation, you may want to consider a value of 3 or 4 instead of the default value of 1.

When you're done, close Regedit. Your registry changes will be saved automatically. Reboot your workstation. Unlike other registry changes, which take place immediately for maximum benefit, NtfsMftZoneReservation works best on freshly formatted hard drives. This is because XP will then create the MFT in one contiguous space. Otherwise, it will just modify the current size of the MFT, instantly fragmenting it. Therefore, it... Read more

You can extend the 150>195 without too much trouble. but splitting the empty space to the first 55 and the 150 is a lot harder. In either case you are going to need a third party app to do it for you. One I have used in win 7 32bit that works is parigon disk suite 2009. there are many others and everyone has their own personal favor.

As long as the laptop's MB supports 8GB of RAM, then a 4GB RAM module with the same specs as the current 4GB module should work.
However, suggest getting another Samsung module, because precedence indicates that problems can sometimes arise when using RAM modules from different manufacturers.

I need a few more ports at home, as I'm using 4 wired computer with my router (as well as 2 wireless ones). I just got Xbox Live, so I don't really want to keep switching out wires everytime I want to play, so I finally gave in and decided I'd buy a hub.

Now, what I'm trying to figure out is, being the cheapskate that I am, what is the minimum price I can pay for a 4-port hub. I probably won't be hooking up another computer to it for awhile, so I figure it's not a huge deal if its 10/100mbps transfer...

However, I wasn't sure if it's still a bad idea to only get a 10mbps hub. The XBox probably doesn't utilize it because I haven't really figured out a way to share the hard-drive on it I won't be doing any mega file as far as I can figure, getting a cheap 10mbps 4port hub should be fine. Also, I don't think it should matter, but any hub I should buy should pretty much be plug-and-play with my Linksys router right?

The problem is I don´t know how to setup correctly the network to have internet access in the PC in the first floor and in the one at the ground floor. Actually I only managed to have web access on the one in the first floor, but not in the one at the ground floor.

The pc in the first floor is in the backyard of the house directly connected to the DI-524 by a ethernet cable, and a cable modem is connected to the router.
The EW7206APg is 7 meters of the computer in the front of the house.
The ground floor pc is almost exactly under the EW7206APg in the first floor. It receives average wifi signal.

I'm currently attempting to expand my wireless home network. I'm using an Orange Livebox and recently bought a wireless repeater to expand the network, but unfortunately, its range isn't as far as I expected.

I also have an old US Robotics wireless router (9108) so I'm thinking of making a bridged network like so:

Internet------Router A-----Repeater----Router B

I went through the user manual of the 9108 but it doesn't say much about bridging and google isn't giving me any useful results on how to bridge my networks.

So what I want to know is:

1. It this setup feasable?
2. How can I bridge my two routers?

I often drag from the right pane to the left pane in Windows Explorer. In each case I ALWAYS expand the left pane first so that I can see the folder I want to drag into.
However, if that folder already has subfolders it often expands and I have no idea where the drag will end up. Is it possible to turn off this autoexpanding function?

A:How to turn off auto expanding

You are correct that folders will open in the left pane. But the target folder will always be highlighted.

In fact, you can move the highlight up and down the entire C\: drive all day, opening every folder, until you finally release the left mouse button in the highlighted folder

BTW1: Of course, someone in the A-team might know how to turn off the folder action.

BTW2: I never use drag and drop in Windows Explorer. I use Ctrl+X in the source right pane, then Ctrl+V in the target right pane.

Reason: Because several times I've dropped into the incorrect folder. Either because the folder name was *similar* to the correct folder name. Or *identical* to the correct folder name, but in the wrong branch

By opening the target right pane, I can see what files and dates already exist (if any).

I have recently decided to try Windows 7 and made the necessary preparations. I am trying to build a dual boot system with the OEM 32bit Vista Home Premium and 64bit Windows 7. My machine is far above the specs and I have 3gb ram.

I burned the image twice after reviewing the other posts in the forum. I burned the first on at 8x and after reviewing prev posts I burned again at 4x. Both freeze at the expanding files 0%. The first one would hang for hours until I told it to cancel. The new one hangs for a few minutes and then gives an error that there is a corrupt or missing file.

I also read that this may be a result of ACHI but my bios does not allow me to disable.

I decided to add two more routers to the other parts of the house (in a series, first router connected to second router, and then second connected to the third). I can get the second router to work (DHCP off for routers 2 and 3). But when I plug in the third router, I can not get internet. Even more interesting to me is when I connect my computer to the 3rd router, i can ping only the first router. (I also made router 1's ip, 2's, and 3's I can not ping router 2 or 3, even though I am dirctly connected to it. I have tried both 2nd and 3rd router in gateway and router mode under the advanced settings, but I can not get it to work. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

Hello all,

I'm in the process of trying to expand my Windows 7 partition. However, I'm not entirely sure how to go about it in my particular circumstances.

I have about 7 gigs of unallocated space immediately prior on the drive to the System Reserved boot partition, with Windows 7 itself immediately following that.

Due to this layout I can't expand the Windows 7 partition directly; the partitioner also doesn't seem to offer any option to move either the boot or the 7 partition in front of the unallocated space to at least place the Windows 7 partition next to the unallocated space.

I would move the partitions with a different tool such as GParted, but I'm concerned that this may make it impossible to boot Windows 7 once again, as moving a Windows Vista partition once did.

I wonder whether anyone could offer some advice?

A:Expanding Windows 7 partition

Well..... we go again.....

A couple of questions.

1) Is it a multi boot configuration?

2) How manny physical HDDs do you have?

3) Do you have a disk imaging tool and are you comfortable with it?

IMO the first step is to get rid of the "System Reserved" partition.

There are a couple of options available.

There is a thread that expands on the topic, the cause and corrective steps:

You can peruse it for info but the exact method for your case may depend on the 3 questions above.

Ok I have noticed alot of people have had problems with this myself included, and the answer is almost too simple.

The problem I was having was once I got to the expanding files step it would get to 89% within a few minutes. Then it would hang for hours stuck at 89%. I tried restarting the installation 4 times. The first time it only got to 9% and stalled.

So on my fourth attempt after watching it hang for a good 2 hours I ejected the installation disk in the middle of installation and popped in another another Windows 7 RC installation disk that I forgot I had just to see what would happen. What happened is it immediately finished expanding from 89% and the installation was complete in about 20 minutes.

I should note that the first installation disk I was trying was a Memorex that had just been pulled from a jewel case prior to burning. The second disk I used was a Verbatim that had been burned some time ago and was actually pretty scratched up.

Both of the disks where burned using the same .iso downloaded from MSDN using the same burner and ImgBurn as the burning software.

Hope this helps some people.

i had to make an account to tell my story. After numerous problems and taking horus of my time i finally got it to install. Unfortunitely it hung at 31%. After like 3 hours of searching online i came across this web page. I then tried it and it worked! Well kinda. It hung again at 68% so i put in the other disc again and now it is on completing installation. Thank you very very very very fing much to op!

I wonder if anyone can help me with the following.

I have an Acer laptop with 160GB hard drive split as follows:

First partition (hidden recovery drive) 12GB
Second partition (C including system and boot) 79 GB - 10% Free space left
Third partition (D Data) 79 GB - 93% Free space left

I would like to shrink the D partition and expand the C partition, however, I have found that the disk management tool in Vista does not allow for this as the free space created is not adjacent to the C drive.

I have looked into using EASEUS but in their support pages they mention it is not advisable to use the software if the system does not reside on the first partition (I assume this is the case on my setup).

I also read elsewhere that it is possible to delete the D partition the expand the C partition if there is nothing important on the D partition, however, I also read that this was not a wise move if the D partition was a Data partition as it may cause Windows not to load.

Does anyone have any experience of dealing with this particular problem?

Wondered if I might get a little help expanding my system drive C: that my windows 7 is installed on. I have an empty partition named Limbo sitting there that I would like to "merge" with my current system drive C: however I cannot expand the C: drive in any traditional method I am familiar with. I have attached a photo for clarity.

I must confess I am no expert and welcome any suggestions to get this done!

A:Expanding System Drive

If Limbo were to the right of C, you could likely do it with Windows Disk Management. But Limbo is to the left.

So you would need a third party application such as Acronis Disk Director, Partition Wizard, or others that escape me at the moment. I think Partition Wizard 4.2.2 is a free download.

While you are at it, you may as well put C to the extreme left to make it easier on yourself later on.

I partitioned my hard drives in the following way:
C: drive has only 8 mg of space avaialbe and contains all the boot data etc. (dumb arent I)
D: drive contains all program files etc and is 78 gig

I cannot delete c or d drives and I need more space on my C drive.
Is there a way to add more memory to my c drive so that I will be able to add more programs to that drive.
Be aware that I am a novice (obviously due to my stuff up of c drive).

I'm a little puzzled here...

Just got a laptop, Gateway 6635b with:

Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 900
Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) supports up to 128MB shared video memory
It came with / is currently set to 64MB of shared video memory... I want to expand it to the full 128MB, and I'm lost as to what I need to do... do I need to buy or is it purely an internal setting where I need to allocate some more of the memory to video...

I'm quite experienced with desktops but am new to laptops... so help is much appreciated!!

A:Expanding DVMT in Laptop

It's "shared" memory so it will use your main system RAM.

Look in the BIOS for settings, if there are none then it may just use "what it needs" at any time up to 128 MB.

Just switched from an old Gateway Win 98SE (that worked just fine until all the new software revisions started to obsolete it even more than it was). Bought a refurbished Dell GX620 with a very fast 3.4 Gig processor. The computer came with a certified version of XP Pro. I have hunted and pecked my way through most basic operating procedures but I can't find the way to expand all the different places I go on the computer. If you're in a window and manually expand it to full screen, the next screen you go to is the small minimized size. Someone told me to go to the next small screen, expand it by pulling out the corners until it reached full screen size and then, instead of hitting the X in the upper right corner, go to the file menu on left side of the screen and hit "exit" to get out of that window. I have tried this on both applications and Web stuff and it doesn't work. Is there a way to do this or am I stuck with having to expand every new window I go into?

Anyone ever have problems with that? I have two toolbars added to my taskbar; Remote and Games. When I hit Remote, I have like 15 or so RDP shortcuts in there. Sometimes I hit it, I see the proper height window open but it's just pure white with a black border for like 5 seconds until it pops the icons in there. I have a Dell Latitude d600 and am running Windows XP Professional service pack 2 and my File System is Fat32. My C drive is 20 GB and is almost full. However my D (Recovery) drive is 8 GB, only 1.5 GB of which is actually being used. Is there any way to recover some of this dead space without having to completely wipe my drive and build partitions from scratch? I tried using DISKPART, but that only works on NTFS systems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

and another two different 1TB drives

also run disk cleanup from

This is my objective:

Move a copy of a XP Acronis image onto the virtual XP I now have running. Then use a CD to "restore the image to the virtual XP". I went into the V-disk manager and set the virtual HD max size to 300 GB.

Next I mount the virtual and try to copy the image into a pre-made folder, but there is not enough room: just the original ~125 GB; not the 300 GB.

Probably I am trying to do something either in the wrong way or it cannot be done.

Suggestions welcomed....

A:Problem with expanding virtual HD

Hi there
Do it this way

1) Create New Virtual Machine -- BUT DON'T INSTALL THE OS.
2) define the size of your VHD's for the Virtual machine.
3) set the Virtual machine to boot from a bootable ACRONIS recovery program (either via physical DVD /CD or an ISO image)
4) Power on the VM
5) at the Acronis boot point to your acronis image and follow the on screen instructions to restore the image. The smaller image will simply install into the large image.
6) now simply re-boot the VM

However I have a better solution -- I'm not sure why an XP system would need 300GB HDD space -- you should once you've got the machine up and running try and split the OS away from the DATA -- an XP OS partition shouldn't be more than 20 GB at the most. Then your data could go on to its own partition -- and if you decide to scrap / upgrade the XP system you've still got all your DATA intact.

Hi guys,

I am about to install another 1Tb HDD into my new build. Currently my system is set up as below (its a W7 64 bit HP setup)

My current 1 Tb drive is split into 2 partitions, E:/ for Data and F:/ for Image backups. When I add in the new 1Tb drive I intend to give half the space to Image backup as I will be imaging other bits and bobs too.

This means that the images on my current F:/ partition will be copied over onto a new 0.5 Tb partition on my new drive. I will then want to expand the current E:/ partition to fill the disk. If that makes sense?

Do you recommend i do this in windows disk manager (if it can even be done in windows disk manager) or should i be using some other recommended tool.

Thanks guys

A:Expanding a partition - not sure where to post this

I would not move WIndowsImageBackup files as it can corrupt them. They must at least be run from their original drive-root location. This is another reason many here choose a more flexible imaging app.

I don't see why Disk Management cannot initialize and partition your new HD.

i added an attachment for my disk management screen, so refer to that.

i have a second HDD just for storing video crap for projects that i work on. its getting filled up cause i have several concurrent projects going on right now, number 1; and number 2, i allocated way too much space in the beginning for the audio partition that i have set up just for audio work. i was wanting to reduce the audio partition and send the remainder to the video partition. when i did that it told me it would change the basic disc(s) to dynamic disc(s) and not wanting to deal with that, i just said no.

so is there a way around this? a 3rd party program or something? my gut is telling me that it is saying that because the freed space is not sitting next to the drive i want to add it to.. but it's at the end of the line. i changed the drive letter of "audio" to B:, hoping it may switch them to alphabetical order, but that didn't do anything. so i changed it back to N:

any recommendations? or will i have to start all over from a blank drive?

me again. I got a clean win 2000 Pro installed on a toshiba satellite 1735 laptop. It's working fine, but just a bit slow, not too bad for a not so new laptop.

However, I was asked (it's not mine) if I could add more memory to it. I have been trying to find the right memory stick for it, but I feel stuck.

On the toshiba site I found the system specs which state that it is expandable to 192 MB and it comes standard with 64 MB.

For the expansion memory it lists the following:
Module type: SODIMM
64Mbit/128Mbit PC100 SDRAM. 3.3V, 8ns access speed
Data/Address Bus Width: 64-bit/14-bit

I then went to their link where to buy it, but I am not sure if this is the right one (it did come up when giving them the model number):
Kingston 128MB SDRAM non-parity 144-pin SODIMM. Since 1996, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., has used Kingston Technology as the official designer and manufacturer of NoteWorthy memory upgrades for Toshiba's entire line of portable and desktop personal computers. Kingston-NoteWorthy memory products are designed to meet the exact specification requirements of each system set by Toshiba.

Is there anyone who did buy extra memory on this particular laptop, or is there anyone who can tell me please if this is the right one?

I sure would appreciate any help I can get.

I dont suspect the registry clean, all it did was remove reference to some files i had deleted hours earlier but i could be wrong.

I was hoping that some kind soul would have an answer to this problem. I am new to Windows Live Mail, and Windows 7, so I hope I haven?t overlooked anything obvious.

When I receive an email message, I hear the "bee-do" sound when it arrives. However, the inbox folders which I have set-up, and linked to message rules, do not automatically expand to show the presence of a new message. Nor do I get a "(1)" beside "unread email", or "unread from contacts" at the top.

I do get the ?(1)? after I expand the relevant folder manually. But if they are collapsed, and if I don't hear the sound, I often miss the email. Moreover, when I do go to the folder that contains the email, it does not go to the unread message automatically ? the last message I read in that folder is still highlighted. That would seem to be related, but I?m not sure how to fix it.

I have, of course, checked the box "automatically display folders with unread messages" under tools>options

TIA for any suggestions,

A:Inbox subfolders not expanding automatically

That seems to be how it works in WLM which is different from WM. All we can do is hope they will fix it for the next version (Wave 4) now in Beta. As a workaround, instead of depending on the "auto display" feature, just keep those folders likey to receive mail always displayed.

A:installation stuck on expanding files at 0%

Hi Jrandomguy and welcome to SevenForums,

The Error code 0x80070015 relates to a device not ready which would normally relate to the DVD drive

This may be simply that the install DVD is corrupted in some way or that the download of the .ISO is faulty in some way. worst case would be a hardware faullt

You could try re-burning at the 1x speed to give the disk the best chance of burning correctly, or maybe downloading again.

Other options are use of a USB stick to install from - if this is an option for you - there is a tutorial on this site if you want to try this method - at least the media is re-usable - I have used RW DVD media for the same reason in the past

(ie: Flight 123 will start arriving on 4/02/11 and do so daily until 4/17/11.What I'm trying to do is manipulate the spreadsheet so it will display the info for the inclusive dates in Flt 123 also comes in on 4/03/11, 4/04/11, etc. If it could do that, I could then do a simple pivot table based on the dates and arrival/departure times. (the second page of my attached sheet is the pivot table I've got so far).My goal with the pivot table is to reflect simply each day of the upcoming month, and to reflect the total flights arriving between 0700-0759hrs that day, between 0800-0859hrs that day, etc. Is this something someone could review and give me some guidance? I'm not very proficient at Excel yet, but I'm learning! Thank You,Dave(Also... if w... Read more

Regarding my earlier post, this is an abbreviated version of the original spreadsheet (with a pivot table)...

Hi all

I desperately need some help. I'm trying to install a fresh copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on my HP laptop. I'm using an ISO file burned onto a DVD disc.

The problem I'm having is that the installation stops at 'Expanding Windows files'. It stays on 0% for hours and refuses to continue. It still allows me to move the cursor around but nothing is happening.

I tried burning the ISO file using several different programs at different speeds but all with the same outcome.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Where did you get the original ISO file?

I'm looking to add some more hard drives to my computers, however, they seem to be full at the moment in terms of space (not TB, but actual space to put them). What would be the cheapest way to expand my storage? I'd also like to use it in a network configuration which streams files to my TV using the PS3 media server. I'm currently using around 10 TB worth of hard drives.

A:Expanding storage, looking for best solutions to this issue

An external raid device that support eSATA is probably your best bet.
Decent ones don't come cheap, but unlike a NAS they will be seen as part of your system and thus the media streaming shouldn't be anymore complex than it would be from a internal drive. It would also require a proper eSATA card. - Cavalry eSATA 8-bay RAID 0/0+1/ 5/JBOD Enclosure (EN-CADA8B-SD)

NAS is another option , a cheaper one.
It will always be on and connected to the network, however they are very pricey if you are looking for the kind of massive storage space you are apparently interested in. (600+ american dollars)
Smaller ones 2TB or less are actually quite affordable though.

Ok, I am not a computer whiz but I had a corrupted hard drive in my laptop.

So, I purchased a new one and installed it into my laptop.

I got one that is 640 GB, I know there is plenty of room for the Windows 7 OS

This is the list of what happens:
I turn the computer on with the 64-bit disc already inserted and it says windows is loading files,
Then the setup language preferences screen pops up, I enter the US settings & click Next,
Then click the Install now button.
Once the Setup is Starting... screen opens it takes forever.
Finally gets to Accept Liscense terms, click on next,
Click Custom (Advanced)
Where do you want to install Windows? pops up with 2 partitions
Disk 0 Partition 1: System Reserved
Disk 0 Partition 2
chose my partition, formatted it, clicked next
Went to the installing Windows screen
Completed the Copying Windows files

And is now just sitting there saying Expanding Windows Files (0%)...

It has been sitting like this for about 30 minutes

I did do a complete wipe of the hard drive before I started.

I don't know what is going on.
So if anyone has any advice for me. PLEASE HELP!!!
It will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

A:Stuck on expanding windows files 0% PLEASE HELP

Wipe the disk clean then try.

You will need to get to a command prompt.
■Boot up from your Windows 7 DVD.
■At the first dialog window, press SHIFT + F10 key combo
■You will have a X:> command prompt
X: is a ram drive created by Windows 7.

Now you need to "clean" the disk. A clean all operation is going to write zeroes to each and every byte on the disk and can take a very long time.

Go get a beer at your favorite locale.

You MUST wait for this operation to finish.

Now here's how to clean the disk:

? type DiskPart, Enter key
? type List disk, Enter key
note the numeral of the disk you want to clean
for example purposes, I?ll be using the numeral 2
? type Select disk 2, Enter key
? type Detail disk, Enter key
this info will let you know if you selected correctly
? type Clean ALL, Enter key
your entire disk is being overwritten with zeros.
This can take a considerable amount of time
? type EXIT, Enter key (only after Clean is finished)
? type EXIT, Enter key (this gets you back where you were)

I´m trying to get my link menu to expand. I´m using frontpage but unfortunatly i don´t understand much in javascript so if anyone could walk me through it it would be appreciated. I want my link to be a img not a plus or a minus, is that possible?

A:Frontpage-expanding menu! howto?

I'm not sure, but I think I understand what you are asking. You would like your page to look like this ??
1. Creat a bulleted list
2. Indent items that you would like to be hidden at first.
3. Highlight your indented list, click Format > Bullets and Numbering.
4.Check Enable collapsible outlines

I have added a 4th drive to my RAID 5 Array on my Dell server but it is now unallocated space. I am told I need to run Diskpart.exe to extend my partition to include this new drive. Question: Do I need to format the new hard drive, (It is a Hot Plug-Hot Swap Drive)?
Does anyone know if I will loose any data?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

A:Solved: Expanding RAID 5 Array

Once the array has been rebuilt it shows up as unused space. You can then resize the partition using Paragon or Acronis or create another logical drive in the unused space. I can't remember if diskpart will increase the partition size without reformatting or not.
Some raid controllers don't allow for addition of drives incorporated into the previous partition for some reason. Check here for more info.

hi guys,

I've currently got a business with a 3 pc setup (see red section in picture). These are connected to a BT 2Wire linksys four ethernet port router. The 4th port is connected to an oki network printer.

My question is that I want to add an additional 2 computers, and a 3rd computer which i want to act as a server (see green section in picture).. Is this possible and if so, what other hardware will i need? Also how difficult is it to setup a server to allow me to backup data from other computers on the network?

Please see the picture below:-
FYI, I am using vista business on all computers and simply want to be able to share the network, internet and also be able to take backup of a small amount of data...thats all.

I eagerly look forward to your replies.

Wondering if there is some software out there to perform this or if need to custom program... What I need to do is create a web-based form. The Form will display/hide other fields as data in certain fields is populated. Guess it's a 'branching' type form.

Example: Depending on what the user selects in the "Product" field, certain fields will then appear according to which product was selected. And then as more options are entered for that product, the next section of the form will appear with additional fields.

Hope that explains it. Thanks.

I just bought a new Lenovo Ideapad Y560 with Intel i7 and Win7 Home Premium.

In My laptop there are only 2 drives C: and D: with 420GB and 30 GB space respectively.

I want to make a new drive , when I tried shrinking C: , i got 250GB of unallocated space.

I m not able to make new simple volume. It gives error "
You cannot create a new volume in this unallocated space because the disk already contains maximum number of partitions "

Here is a screen shot of my Disk Management.

A:Problem in Expanding and making new Volume.

Correct. You can only have 4 Primary partitions.
Shrink your C down.
Backup your D: drive and unallocate that partition.
Now the Old D drive and the shrinkage from C should be one large unallocated drive space.
Create one big partition with all that space.

Is it possible to give a standard user account (non-administrator) the acces to install some programs?

How about giving him the acces to command "scan for hardware changes" in Device manager, just so that an external eSATA harddrive is recognized?

How about deleting shortcut icons from the desktop?

I have been checking out "Group Policy Editor" and couldn't find those settings, can you help me if they are there?
Thank You!

A:Expanding Standard Account rights

I can't say for sure but my answer would be no you can't, the idea of the Standard Account is so that you can't alter anything which is why I think it's usually given to the kids or visitors who use your machine and you don't want them deleting your programs or altering your work.

Hang around and see what the experts have to say on the matter before you take my word for it, oh and Welcome to the Forum enjoy your stay here and why not fill in your system specs. it helps make things easier to help you should you need help in the future.

Now i've tried to search this site for some answers, but the only thing i got was to reburn the dvd. Ofcourse i could try this, but the dvd never gave me any problems during previous installations on the old machine. im wondering what is going wrong and how to fix it

AMD Phenom x4 940, 2.5 gb ram and what not (its second hand )

thanks for ur time and help

A:W7 installation hangs at Expanding Files 0%

Hopefully, you are doing a clean installation. Assuming that you are, make sure everything is disconnect from the computer except the monitor, mouse and keyboard. Uninstall A/V and the firewall. Make sure that if you are installing a 64 bit, you have the required specifications and space. Actually make sure you have enough space for 32, also.

I'm trying to install 7 on my older laptop as an upgrade from XP on a clean installation (bought a new hard drive and put XP on it first that I intend to wipe out in the 7 installation) but when I boot from the 7 disk it takes about 10 minutes to get to the installation. The graphics are funky and when I get to the point of expanding Windows files it takes a very long time to get anywhere. I figured I'd leave it overnight, and when I woke up the computer was at the XP desktop, so it had obviously reset itself.
I read somewhere that I should remove all hardware except a stick of RAM,'s a laptop. Are there any other suggestions?

I need to grow my wired home network. 4 rooms have Cat5 cable from my router to wall jacks in various rooms. I have a D-link wireless N router (D-615 I think) with 4 ethernet ports. (the wireless feature of the router is used occassionally by guests with laptops or smart phones) 3 of the 4 ports run to Windows XP desktop computers and one port to an Xbox live. I have a broadband cable modem also going to the router and all 4 ports have excellent connections to the internet. I have wired 2 more rooms with RJ45 outlets for possible desktop computers and one of the rooms with an extra RJ45 outlet for a networked printer.

At one time I wanted to put one of my desktops and an Xbox Live in the same room that only had one jack and I wanted them both to be able to connect at the same time. I purchased a Linksys (Cisco) 10/100 5 port Workgroup Switch (Mod. EZXS55W), Attached it to the ethernet port in the room via the Uplink port and plugged in the Computer and the Xbox, and although they both worked, they both didn't work at the same time.

The Linksys Switch is "Compatible with half- and full-duplex mode support, the Linksys EZXS55W can work doubling the speed of normal half-duplex devices. The Linksys EZXS55W boasts five auto-sensing ports (and 1 Uplink port) with NWAY technology to automatically detect the cabling type and speed, and optimize transmission rates to match the needs of connected devices.
