Control C and control v shortcuts aren't working

Q: Control C and control v shortcuts aren't working

I recently discovered the shortcut keys for copy and paste, cntrl c & cntl v, do not work for certain programs. For example, if I have a picture using Windows Photo Gallery (or Paint) and I hit cntrl c and try to paste it in an email, cntrl v, nothing happens. I can, however, copy the same picture into a Microsoft Word document. I can also do a cntrl-alt-delete sequence and it brings up a task manager window.

I cannot copy the same image from Microsoft Word into an email page. It also does not work when I right click on the picture and hit the paste or copy feature.

I use AOL for my mail and Firefox for my browser.

Thanks in advance.

Yesterday two keyboard shortcuts that I use constantly quit working - Alt+Tab to switch between windows and Control+Click to open a link in a new tab in Internet Explorer. The only change was the download and installation of Turbotax Home & Business - in fact, the first I noticed the problem was while the installation was taking place. I searched the Internet and found one older post on this site that addressed the Alt+Tab problem, but I did not see a resolution. I checked my Registry and the "coolswitch" settings are where they should be. I called Turbotax, but they were of NO help. Not positive it is related to that installation, but very suspicious. I have a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse. Can anyone help? Thanks.

You might try uninstalling your keyboard driver and reinstalling it.

For the past few months, I've had problems with some of my "security" shortcuts. It started when I tried to open AVG and run a scan. When I click on the icon, I get a pop up stating the "program.exe" associated with the icon has changed or moved and do I want to delete the icon. I noticed that I had an AVG update come in prior to this problem so I figured it was an AVG problem and I have been working with their customer support people to try and fix it. I've also noticed that other "security" programs have the same problem. When I click on "malwarebytes" and "whatsrunning", I get the same box. I just downloaded superantispyware and tried to run it, but had the same problem with the desktop icon. I have Spyware Terminator, and its working fine. I haven't found any other programs that are having the same issues.
The tech I've been working with at AVG has had me run uninstall and other programs trying to find the issue but we've gotten nowhere. I can't open AVG to run a scan, (I get the error box noted above), but when I go to my Security Center, it shows that "AVG reports up to date and active". I haven't been able to reinstall AVG because of an error with a program in Firefox called Chrome. I just need some advice on how to fix the problem with the missing or moved programs so my shortcuts will work. I don't believe its a virus, I've used Spy Terminator numerous times ... Read more

Help please and thanks, Mary

Here is my hijackthis text file.

A:Control/C Control/V control/alter/delete doesn't work

Mary, keyboard problems are not invariably software or malware-related. First things first - what OS are you talking about ? XP, Win 7, Win 8 or what? What type of keyboard is it? PS2, USB or wireless?

Disconnect it and reconnect it a few times, reboot and try again. Turn the keyboard upside down, placing one end on the edge of a thick book, and thump a few times on the back with your hand. Sweep the crud onto the carpet.....

Is it just a keyboard hardware problem, and if so which keys? tells you a lot of key combinations with ctrl and shift and alt. Tell us if any or none work?

Open a document and try typing a bit of text. Do all the characters work?

If it appears the keyboard is faulty, can you borrow another to test?

Quite often, keyboard problems are down to wireless problems: and can often be solved by re-installing the keyboard driver.

On Windows XP, I've assigned a bunch of shortcuts, and stored them in a start menu/programs/shortcuts folder.

One opens Remote Desktop Connection. But if a Remote Desktop Connection session is already open, running the shortcut won't open a new session - it'll switch the active window to the currently open session.

I have another shortcut pointing to a folder of servers. If I have Windows Explorer open to any other folder, when I press the shortcut keys for my servers folder, my active window will, again, switch to the already opened folder, and not bring up my servers folder.

Is there a way to open the folder the shortcut was originally assigned to?

Does anybody have explanation or solution for the following phenomenon. Usually I create shortcuts to Desktop to those items of Control Panel that I use most often (Device Manager, System, Display, Sound, etc..etc...). I do it so that I press shift and ctrl down and then drag-drop the items from control panel to desktop.

Makes your life much faster especially when you install windows.

I think the shortcuts usually disappear when you reboot the machine or install something new into it.

Any good ideas?

A:Control panel shortcuts disappearing from desktop...?

Try this. In control panel pick with a right click lets say folders. The option should be there to create a desktop icon. On my system it stays there after reboot. Right clicking is your friend.

Always dragged a copy of Computer and Control Panel icons to the taskbar at the bottom in Vista. 7 doesn't seem to let you do that. It just says pinned but they aren't there. Also notice that some of the programs I have reinstalled after installing 7 at the ned ask if you want to add a shortcut to the desktop or quick launch taskbar then don't appear there either.

A:Computer or Control Panel shortcuts on taskbar

Pinning Control Panel is easy. Open up the Control Panel, right click on it's icon on the taskbar-Pin to taskbar.

On Windows XP, I've assigned a bunch of shortcuts, and stored them in the start menu/programs area.

For one that opens Remote Desktop Connection,
if a Remote Desktop Connection session is already open, running the shortcut won't open a new session - it'll open the current session.

Same thing happens for a shortcut to my servers folder. Even if I have Windows Explorer open to any other folder than the servers folder, when I press Control-ALT-S (for servers), I will get the already opened folder, not my servers folder.

Is there a way to correct this behavior?

Three days ago I thought I had downloaded a virus. When Windows started up, a DOS window would pop up and then shortly thereafter internet explorer would open up and take me to a page with a counter but nothing else. I ran Norton and thought i had it taken care of but the window kept popping up. I noticed that the name of the DOS window said "h0st.exe" so in my ignorance I did a search for that file and once i found it I opened the properties and chaged the "opens with" to microsoft wordpad thinking (ignorantly) that the virus would now be rendered useless and would only open up a harmless wordpad file.
Imagine my surprise when I double clicked on my desktop shortcuts and they all opened with wordpad. All my programs in the startup menu do the same thing, along with "cmd" under the RUN window and many other things. For example if I right click on my desktop and click properties a wordpad file pops up titled "rundll.32-wordpad". I tried running my windows xp home cd to repair and nothing. I can open up all my programs with no problem but I have to right click on them and choose "run as" then click on the "current user" circle but I have to uncheck the "protect this computer..." box.
So basically wordpad opens everything in my computer i cant access my controlpanel options like desktop appearance, or even defrag and system restore...worpad files pop up. Please please help me. I dont know what I did ... Read more

You could download yamicsoft Vista Manager and select: SECURITY> CONTROL PANEL
then select the shortcut and click delete Button on bottom of window.

I would be careful though. there is no recreate option in vista or vista manager that i know of.
I assume that you must be wanting to remove an aplett installed by a program you no longer want to use? otherwise i would leave it alone.

"Topic Title" cont'd:  Document Shortcuts Show Up on Desktop Randomly, Windows Pop Up Randomly, and System Tray Changes Positions
I am working on my 65 year old neighbor's computer.  She has called me in a panic over many months complaining of the issues I described in the Topic Title, but I had never witnessed them occurring since they are sporadic.
I had installed and run MSE on her computer and never found anything.  I also recently tried rkill and then ran MSE again.  Still nothing; however, yesterday I came over to help her with some other work and sat down to do something at her computer.  While I was trying to use her computer I was able to witness first-hand the issues she had been describing, and I thought, "UH-OH!"  Something is definitely W.R.O.N.G. with this computer.
First, She had her shortcut to AOL Desktop 9.7 open.  That is how she accesses her email and internet.  I do not like that interface, but I tried to use it to access the Windows updates for her computer.  It would neither close nor allow me to type anything anywhere.  Finally it began opening up five IE windows.  Then those were frozen.  Blech.  I couldn't get them to close with clicking on the "X" or going to the system tray and closing OR using the Task Manager to terminate the process!

Hello :)
I hope I put this in the right area..

I've been searching for a solution to this volume problem for a while now, but to no avail. I've found others with a similar problem, but no solution. So here's the deal: I just got a new motherboard, and ever since I got it my volume control has been faulty. First of all, all sounds are very quiet, even when all volume sliders are set to maximum. Next the main volme control has no effect whatsoever on the volume of the computer. I can can slide it all the way to the top, or all the way to the bottom, nothing changes. The only thing that makes any difference is the Wave control and it barely does anything. Also, when I put "Mute all" doesn't mute. However when I put mute for Wave control, no sound comes out.
All this is incredibly annoying because I often listen to music on my computer, but now I basically can't hear it. To note: I don't have a volume control on my keyboard, or on my speakers, and I know nothing is wrong with the speakers.

If anyone could help, I would really, really appreciate it. Thanks :)

Hi all,

Access 2003 with VBA code time again!

I have a form named "MyForm" with a single tab control on it named "MyTabCtl1".

The Tab Control holds three pages: "Tab_Page_1", "Tab_Page_2" and "Tab_Page_3" and each page has a number of bound controls on it.

Now, on "Tab_Page_3" I have an unbound control called "Descriptor_00"

I wish to create code that, on loading the form, will set the ".text" or ".value" property of "Descriptor_00" to be a combined string derived from other controls on the same and other pages.

On a standard form, I'd use something like:

Me!MyControl.Value = Me![First Control] & ", " & Me![Second Control] & (etc)

to build my combined string.

But, how would I do this for a control on a page of a tabbed control ? What's the syntax cuz I'me puzzled!!

Does this make any sense?

All the best

I'm running windows XP on an old Dell Inspiron 1501 and I'm trying to get my microphone to play directly through my speakers so I can record them both simultaneously. The only answer I've been finding is to tick the 'microphone' checkbox in the volume control playback properties panel, but I don't have a microphone checkbox. There should be a 'microphone' box under SW Synth and CD player but I don't get one apparently.I've downloaded the latest SigmaTel Audio drivers from Dell and despite not having a problem with them before this, I'm inclined to believe that they're the problem. Any ideas?

A:No microphone control in playback Volume Control panel

Okay well of course I find an answer right after posting the topic:

Those two pages detail how to get an Input Monitor checkbox which functions just like the microphone one I wanted (although you can only mute it, not alter the volume). I used Instructional Set 3 from the second page, having to add the 'RecMonitorMute' entry as detailed in the first page and I can now hear my microphone input directly through my speakers.

HOWEVER, I'm still unable to record both the microphone and speaker sound at the same time. I thought recording the 'Stereo Mix' channel with the microphone coming through the speakers would work but it isn't and I don't know why. Any ideas?

I'm running Windows 8.1 64bits.
I have noticed since a couple of days ago that my Control+Tab shortcut does not work anymore. Not on text editors, not on web browsers, not on property pages, nowhere.
Control+Shift+Tab (reverse tab navigation) still works.
I have checked the results on an application called "Ethervane ActiveHotkeys". In there, it states that Control+Shift+Tab is not an active hotkey but that Control+Tab IS. I assume that some application decided to globally pick up Control+Tab for itself.
I have tried restarting (and testing as quickly as possible before all programs load), I have tried closing down all applications that the task manager will let me and still the shortcut does not work.
I tried going to msconfig and disabling all programs and non-Microsoft services with no luck, but if I start Windows 8 in Safe Mode then Control+Tab works again.
I tried running Hotkey Commander; it shows Control+Tab as being bound by some application, but does not show which application it is. If I delete/disable the hotkey binding from inside Hotkey Commander then it works again until I restart.
I'm stumped as to how to troubleshoot this further and any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm having the same problem as of today, and basically mirrored your findings.  The only thing I can think of that changed in the last 24 hours was the nVidia drivers and Geforce experience..

Thanks for reading this. Boy, do I need help.

Somehow I got my permissions all messed up. I can't access some folders. I have worked a lot trying to use properties-security tab and playing around, and I can sometimes change permissions so I can use a folder. But I am trying to open "Documents and Settings" and it will not let me change permissions on it and I can't get into it. I think I could before this mess started.
When I start up, instead of one account (jim) which had administrative privileges, now I have two, Administrators and jim. I always had all permissions with jim, but somehow it's messed up now.
Why can't I have complete control over my own computer as jim? Nobody else will ever use it, it's in my office. But Windows keeps stopping me over permissions, or the message "Access denied."

Anyway, so I logged out as administrator jim and logged in as Administrator. Now I don't even see the folder Documents and Settings.

How can I once and for all get complete control over my computer so I can open or delete any folder or file?

Thanks so much for any help, it's making me pull my hair out.

A:I've lost control of permissions, how can get get control back?

There is no "Documents and Settings" for Win7, unless perhaps you've un-checked "hide protected operating system files". This "Documents and Settings" folder name is an XP concept, which for Win7 is really part of \Users.

If you open Explorer, and select on the "Organize" item on the menu bar, then "Folder and search options" from the dropdown list, and then View tab, you can CHECK that "hide protected operating system files (recommended)". That's a good thing. And it will also automatically prevent you from trying to access hidden system files that you have no business trying to access by that name since they're now invisible and cannot even be seen. They will instead appear with their proper folder names in Explorer, and you shouldn't be denied access to these properly named folders.

And while there, up a bit in the "hidden files and folders" item you should UN-CHECK the "show hidden files, folders and drives" item. That will let you see your \Users\<userid>\Appdata folder, where much is kept for each user... and you certainly should see \Users\Jim.

Underneath \Users\Jim you should also see \My Documents, \My Music, \My Pictures, etc., which is where your data (for Jim) would normally be saved unless you put it somewhere else.

However, COMDODO used to warn me about some stuff connecting when Vista booted, e.g MS Media Centre wanting to connect to internet etc.

But Vista Firewall Control doesn't warn me about these outgoing connections. Anyone know why?

The FREE version doesn't support System/Core application protection. What does that mean exactly? Is that why it doesnt warn me about media centre etc?

I got myself an Audio-Technica AT2020USB+ condenser microphone a few weeks ago, and I haven't really found out how I can change the gain, which I hear is important to do.
There is only one slider where the gain slider also should have been. The mic doesn't have a gain know like some other microphones have.

As you can see there is one slider. It only changes volume as far as I know.

How can I change the gain, is it needed, or can I maybe control gain using the volume slider?
If I can't change it directly through the mic or through the control panel, how can I change it? D:

Thanks in advance!

A:Can't control gain! No slider in control panel!

I have a recording studio (Sonar X3) and use several AT mics but they are not USB mics (such as the AT2035 and AT2050).

"Volume level" is the same as "gain". You can adjust the "Volume Level" or you can adjust the "gain" - both are the same thing. On mixers, amplifiers, etc, some will call the volume control "level" and others "gain".

A USB mic should have its own listing in the Sound/Recording Panel. Whatever slider that is has, such as what you show, should adjust the volume level. Many recording programs also have volume level adjustments.

The network I maintain at a school has policy restrictions which do not allow users access to the printer controls. However I would like them to have the ability to control their own print jobs and unpause printers etc. But when editing the policy I find that they get access to control panel at the same time and can do lots of possible damage.

Can I do this any way while minimising possible damage? We are running an NT4 network with some 95 and some NT workstations.

many thanks

I inherited a Dell XP420 Computer with Vista Operating System from my stepson Pat who could never figure out the machine.

I seem to have many problems with Vista revolving around User Account Control, Privileges, Permissions, Ownership, user names, file control and directory structure. etc.

I?ve been working around UAC problems, but there has to be a way out of this. My most recent issue:

IE has problems fully loading web pages. With IE, like several programs that I run with this computer I get messages that say I have corrupt files. I get object error warnings Chkdsk does not fix problems.

While shopping for a new car battery, with many pages open, the computer completely hung up last night. I had to kill power and reboot.

IE7 did not work, I Unloaded and IE7 would not work also. Google Chrome is fine, I have internet access. I reset all defaults.

After hours of messing around, I discovered the way to start IE is ?Run as Administrator?
Then like so many other programs I run, I get the screen Windows screen
? A Program needs your permission to continue.?

When I dumped my old files on this XP420 computer from my old computer, They resided in User ?Mike_W_old.? I had no permissions with this user, so I moved all the files to ?Pat? I renamed user/administrator Pat to Mike _W under the desktop, but the user pat did not update under the OS C:\ drive \ Users\ Pat and there is no option to rename here.

Have a new Thinkpad R31 with Ultranav mouse button and touch pad. Running XP fully up-to-date. The mouse control in Control Panel sets the mouse button functions just fine but does not seem to be able to control the touch pad settings. I want the touch pad for only scrolling but checking that and clicking Apply and OK, nothing changes. It still acts like a normal mouse. Or the changes are only good until the next restart. I am able to disable the touch pad but that's not what I want. I recall the control worked at first. What's up?

you'll have to get the specific driver for that device. i had a very similar issue, and it wasn't until i got the original driver.

so, if your drivers are up to date, then try to roll back your driver. or download an older one.

Sorry if this is a repeat, but I searched and didn't come up with anything directly related to this question.

Control Z (undo) isn't working in Office or anywhere else (notepad, email, anything). I'm not sure how I managed to turn it off, but it would be really appreciated if someone could help turn it back on. I use ctrl z, x, c, and v for undo, cut, copy, and paste all the time. Everything but ctrl z still works. Now that it isn't working, I've realized how much it helps my productivity.

A:Control Z (undo) not working

Hello ogallupe and welcome to Seven Forums.

I've heard that people who use Skype sometimes use Ctrl+Z to mute the microphone. Doing so makes Ctrl+Z (the undo command) not work in other programs. If you have a system restore point that goes back to before this problem started you may be able to roll back your computer to a good working state.

System Restore

Another possibility is to check for damaged or corrupt system files. Run a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Please post back if anything helped or not.

Hi . I've just installed windows 7 on my new computer and noticed that control & paste doesnt work, and so I checked in services to see if it had started and couldn't find it at all. Can any one help me solve this please? Its driving my crazy!

A:Control & paste not working!

Clip Board in services has nothing to do with copy and paste on a local computer (Your computer), it's used to copy and paste over an remote desktop environment or perhaps over VPN. Try another USB keyboard to rule out a problem with Windows. If you have a laptop you can connect a USB keyboard as well and see if all keyboard functions work.

Hi there,

I've installed some updates for Windows 7 a couple of days ago and have now noticed that there is a problem with the computer mouse left-clicking on anything when my desktop loads up. However, it is intermittent as sometimes I will turn the computer on and all the mouse's controls will work just fine.

I've tried multiple mice to no avail so it rules out a problem with the mouse itself.

I have had really strange behaviour where the mouse will work within Google Chrome but not in anything else, or in just Firefox. I have also had it where I can only left-click on icons within my desktop but not anything within any programs loaded via my keyboard (start menu>>program) or anything on the taskbar.
At the moment I have a window open to proceed with an installation and I can't click anything on it as the window just disappears behind Firefox.

I'm really confused why and how this could have happened - it almost seems as though a part of Windows 7 doesn't load properly to tell my computer how to use any mouse device

Any suggestions would be very welcome!

My control and w keys work perfectly fine seperately, but together it doesn't work.
I know it has the default function similar to alt+f4 but it's also a commonly used combination in games.
When I have W pressed, and press control, it works, for example to crouch while already moving in counter strike, but if I have control pressed first it doesn't work. Also if i release control, it has about a 1 second delay before w picks up, and if i release W while already moving, it picks up if i press W back down quickly.
This isn't just a problem in counter strike, and the default bind does not work. And it is not possible to bind Ctrl+W to a button in WoW. I have tested all the keys around, and they all work with control. Shift and Alt functions also work perfectly fine.

I am using a Logitech G19 Keyboard.

Since this is a recent problem, use the System Restore and restore back to a date when it did work. Usually this will take care of new problems. System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools. System Restore will not delete any user date or e-mails.

A:brightness control not working after hibernate

I take it that when you notice this, restarting the notebook corrects the problem every time? I am not suggesting this as a solution(sometimes i would rather see the dentist than have to restart one of my PCs) but I want to make sure that this isn't a hardware issue.
When you notice the problem with the brightness keys try holding down FN when pressing them and see if there is a change.
As another test go into Windows and change the power plan and change it to "high performance" before hibernating the notebook. Before resuming plug in the AC adapter and see if you are now able to adjust the brightness, if you are able to then this becomes less of a problem with the function key behavior and an issue with power management.

All right, here's my stupid problem. (Win98 1&1/2 edition)
It all started back when I was using Nessticle to play some of my old games. The volume control at times would just not work, and when it did, sometimes the sound for the entire program would become distorted. I'd have to close and open the emulator while randomly changing both the master volume and wave volume and hope that it had the right volume. Now I'm trying to use SuperMorse and it will not work properly in Windows. No matter what I try, when I run it in pure DOS mode the volume is either maxed out or at the minimum level. So, I need something to change the volume to something in-between.

My sound card is an ES1887 Plug and Play Audiodrive. I've tried downloading several different drivers and utilities at the manufacturer's website, but they either don't work in DOS mode or don't work for my sound card. And recently I can't even find the page they had all the drivers on. I imagine I've looked everywhere I can think of by now on how to fix this, and even people who've asked this question before never found out the solution. However...

All I really need is something to fix the bug (if it's one of those little `mistakes' in Windows) or a program with a volume control that runs in pure DOS mode -- that way I can run it, change the volume, return to the command line, and use SuperMorse. That should do it. Please, please, please help.

Hi all.

I have suddenly lost the ability to use my control+left or right arrows. Not just in word but on all places I type using the computer, even this message!

I use this key constantly as I am a secretary and do lots of documents and letters and it is driving me nuts not being able to use this function.

When I reboot I sometimes get the function back for a short while then it disappears again.

I have just had a brand new computer put in but it happened sometimes on my old PC too so I don't think it's a hardware issue. I am wondering if I have accidentally hit a combination of keys to disable it or something.

Other functions work (control/Alt/Delete, etc) just not this one, which is my most used quick key!

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have a pair of old Yamaha speakers and an SB Live Value sound card and I'm running XP. The speakers have a volume control and a headphone jack on them. Up until recently they were working fine but then my children were playing around on the PC and now neither the volume control on the speaker nor the headphone jack works (if I plug in the headphones the sound continues to be played through the speakers).

If I read your post correctly, you are still getting sound from the speakers, right? It kind of sounds like the speaker controls and the headphone jack have been damaged somehow. Do you have another set of speakers you can test with or another PC to try these speakers on?

Hello, I recently did a fresh install of Win7 32bit on two computers (Dell Optiplex 330, 360) in my office. The installation went fine but I noticed that both computers have errors in the control panel.

On one, if I open the control panel from the start menu (CP homepage) it opens for a second, then closes and I get a 'Windows Explorer has stopped working' error -> it asks to look for online solutions and finds nothing. However, this only happens to the main Control Panel page, if I open a section of the Control Panel like the 'Adjust Screen Resolution' via search bar, it opens fine.

On the other, control panel works fine, but when I open the 'Backup and Restore' section, I get a blank menu screen. It has the title 'Backup and Restore' but there are no buttons or options.

Is there a way to re-install control panel? Or other ways to fix this problem, I don't plan on re-formating.

A:Control Panel stopped working

Most likely Control Panel is crushed by a new menu item which was installed with Dell video or audio drivers.

Turn Hidden files option On and then turn hide SYSTEM files option OFF.
And search for *.CPL files in C:\Windows\

Something outside the list could be Control panel item, causing the problem.
Before deleting anything backup and make sure it is not a default Windows Control panel menu item.

For Backup and Restore try to start this file

A:Re: Brightness Control Unavailability and Non Working of Hot...

Welcome back @shrayank!  I moved your post for better exposure because the splash screen not showing up is a separate issue from the original brightness issue you had experienced and resolved. By accepting the solution when the issue is resolved, others will be able to find the steps that work also.   To help computers start faster, on some models the HP splash screen is not displayed during the start up process. In this case, you can try these steps to see if it is possible for you to enable the HP logo screen:Restart the computer.Press F10 repeatedly to enter the system BIOS screen.Select the Boot section using the right arrow key.Select Boot-time Diagnostic Screen using the up and down arrow keys.Press Enter to select boot-time diagnostic.Select Disabled to show the logo screen.Press Enter.Press F10, and then press Enter to save the changes and exit the system BIOSThis should enable the splash screen if it is available to be enabled.  If this reply helped, please use the Accept as Solution button. If you want to give me a virtual high five, please click the Thumbs Up icon below.  Thank you for coming back and seeking another helping hand from the HP Support Forums community! Have a great day!

ctrl+z not working right in any applications (chrome, autocad 2012, sketchup 8, and notepad, and normal windows functions tested.) i was working on homework in sketchup and noticed that my ctrl+z wasn't working, and did some testing and found out this.

control works on its own
z works on its own
other control commands work fine
if i mash it 5-30 times it decides to work once
tried all of that in the listed applications

reboot didn't help.

Windows XP:

I've had this problem for months, and have done multiple thousand virus scans since. I would much rather not format.

Whenever I try to open Display, nothing pops up. I am logged in as admin and have tried it on every account. And now since I've got a new monitor I need to change the resolution!

Any help is appreciated!

A:'Display' in Control Panel not working

Click on START, RUN and type REGEDIT, press OK. This opens the Registry Editor. Be careful not to change anything!!!!

Look for HKEY_CURRENT_USER - click on + to expand it.

Click on - Software, Microsoft, Windows, CurrentVersion, Policies, System.

Then, under System, look for the file called NoDispCPL - this means it's the settings for displaying the Control Panel.

Highlight NoDispCPL and double click - a box will appear called "Edit DWORD value"

In the box called Value Data, it will have the number "1" - change this to zero "0".

Click OK

Close the Registry Editor.

You should now have access to your control panel Display settings.

I got MCE 2002 SP2 running on my computer and as of today my remote control doesn't work properly. I can't turn on Media Center using the remote anymore. I can still change the volume and do pretty much everything else with the remote except for turn on Media Center. Even When press the Live TV button or DVD Menu button it wont turn on MC. I got ehtray in starting when I boot windows and the remote works fine once I turn MC on through the computer.
Also, there used to be this volume indicater that would pop up towards the bottom of my screen when I would change the volume using the remote or keyboard and thats gone too and I would like to bring it back.
Any ideas??

Everytime I try to open up the control pane, Vista tells me that Windows Explorer has stopped working, then restarts it.

I'm using Business Ultimate 64bit. I've run sfc /scannow several times.

I have a custom built PC,
Giga-Byte EP35-DS4 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad at 2.4Ghz, Kentsfield model
2GB Ram, Crucial Ballistix DDR2
eVGA GeForce 8800 GT
Seagate 500GB HD
Samsung DVD Burner
Encore Wireless card

That's about it. Default BIOS setup. Any help would be appreciated... I tried running 'msconfig' and disabling all Non-Microsoft Services and all Startup items.

Interestingly enough, when I boot into Safe Mode I can access the Control Panel just fine. I don't know what that means.. I'm new to this, I'm a Mac user by default.

Thanks in advance!

Do you have in system32 a file named: Firebird2Control.cpl ?
If yes, remove it from system 32 and it should work.

A:Volume control keys on keyboard not working

Hi, Try the following. Download the Realtek HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link. When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K
