A: Folder Icons Are invisible when viewed large

Hi Qwerty77
Try this:

1) Right click the folder and choose properties.
2) Click on the Customize Tab.
3) Choose Change Icon at the bottom
Pick an icon you want top use for the folder, then click ok.

You may have inadvertently clicked on a "white" space when choosing icons. (It is possible to create invisible folders in that manner, hence the black box.
Try right clicking on your desktop first, and click refresh.
Hope this helps...

I have two icons that I want to assign to two folders. Unfortunately, something has gone wrong. Let me explain what happened step by step:

1. I have two folders: "A" and "B".
2. I have two icons (.ico files): "A" and "B".
3. I place icon "A" in folder "A" and icon "B" in folder "B".
4. I assign icon "A" to folder "A" and icon "B" to folder "B".
5. I notice that I've switched the icons around.
6. I move icon "A" to folder "B" and icon "B" to folder "A".
7. I rename icon "A" to "B" and icon "B" to "A".
8. I assign icon "A" to folder "A" and icon "B" to folder "B".
9. I notice that I still get to see the switched-around icons that I assigned in step 4 in the large and extra large icon views. In the smaller views the folder icons are now correct.

Here's what I did to try solve this problem:

- Follow two tutorials: Icon Cache - Rebuild and Default File Associations - Restore in Windows 8 (for .ico files).
- Remove the icon cache using the Disk Cleanup utility.
- Run "sfc /scannow" and "chkdsk /f /r".
- Run CCleaner to cleanup the registry and manually remove some registry keys that I pinpointed by looking for the registry keys that change when I assign an icon to a folder.
- Restart the computer and the "explorer.exe&... Read more

Hi. I have a problemic glitch for a specific folder. This folder is called "Alicia Keys" and has two albums (folders) inside it "Song in A Minor" and "The Dairy of Alicia Keys". The glitch that I am refering to is when I viewed the two albums as thumbnails their filenames become invisible. Sure the usual performances occur, you can rename, delete and add folders, but every file inside "Alicia Keys" will have a invisible name.

What is strange is the fact that this only occurs for the folder with this exact same path. C:\Documents and Settings\<User Name>\My Documents\My Music\Alicia Keys
I renamed that "Alicia Keys" to something else for eg. "Alicia Keys2" and the problem wasn't there - both albums revealed their filenames when viewed as thumbnails. I created another "Alicia Keys" and created a new folder inside it and the problem is the same. The new created folder does not reveal its filename (when viewed as a thumbnail as you should know). Completely invisible. This is really strange for me and I assume something in the registry has done this; just something for this exact same folder.

Now i want to fix this problem because at the moment I'm organizing My Music with the proper format I want when viewing these folders with details and thumbnail views and whatever. Alicia Keys Certainly has become a real bother. Hope someone can help me. Thank you.

A:Files with invisible filenames when viewed as thumbnails

If you are referring to Thumbnail view in Windows Explorer, try this.
With thumbnails (with no name) shown in right pane, click 'View', 'Details'. Now hold down the Shift key while clicking 'View', 'Thumbnails'.

I've got a little registry file that I run on all my new installs. One thing I been wanting to add to it is the ability to set the Folder View settings to "Large Icons" for "All Folders". The manual way to do this is...

- Open folder
- Right-Click > View > Large Icons
- Tools > Folder Options > View > Apply to Folders

So basically I'm looking for the registry key that I can change to set this via reg file. I've tried digging around in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU & Bags but it looks like those are for all folders. I'm looking for the one specific key/value that windows checks to determine what the folder view should be.

Thanks in advance!

Can't tell how font folder suddenly turned into a normal folder view. Now I can't install fonts, nor can I change any of the fonts.I'm not infected by malware, although there is possibility of a rootkit as my display properties are weird.I tried doing system restore to the earliest time possible but the problem was still there. So the problem has been present more than 1 week. One possible explanation might be that my little sister installed a few thousand fonts (I have no idea how she could get that many) and I had to delete most of them. Any way to get the font folder back to its special view? Thanks

Yesterday, my XP Pro SP3 system lagged dramatically and then displayed a taskbar message that said, "Critical Error - Damaged hard drive clusters detected. Private data is at risk". I figured this was malware but couldn't find anything in task manager that looked out of the ordinary in applications or processes to end task on. So I restarted the computer. When I did, about half of my desktop icons were gone and my IE favorites were gone as well.

Upon further inspection, my favorites folder was actually gone from my user profile in windows explorer. The other user profiles were fine. In windows explorer, I typed in the address location of my user profile's favorite folder, c:\documents and settings\username\favorites and BLAM!! the favorites folder instantly appeared in the tree. The "hidden" properties attribute had been checked and unchecking brought back all my favorites.

So my favorites are back.

Malwarebytes and Windows Security Essentials both showed no infection on full scans. So I ran offline hardware diagnostics on the hard drive just to make sure there wasn't a problem with it. It passed all tests.

But I'm still missing some desktop icons. I don't remember all the icons that have vanished, but if I try to recreate a url shorcut that can't be seen on the desktop, or in windows explorer under ANY profile, windows balks and says the filename already exists. I can recreate the shortcut under another name without issue... Read more

Does anyone know if Windows has provided a way to cause the taskbar icons to take you back to the last viewed window when you click on the icon instead of having to look through all the previews?

If it's not available, is there some way (like a registry change) to change the behavior of the taskbar icons to accomplish this?

First post here on the SevenForums! I'm only saving the tough ones for you guys! Here's the problem:

My client's computer was infected with a virus obtained via Facebook. I removed this and multiple other infections (and I'm pretty thorough with my scanning). She gets it back, starts working on it, and apparently her devices and printers icons are blank. Not missing, like with a "blank page" icon, just... blank. Here's the kicker: it only happens with large and extra large icons. It also happens with normal folder icons. When I change it to medium or lower, they come back. I've tried rebuilding the icon cache database several times, tried sfc /scannow, tried chkdsk, tried uninstalling any recent updates, etc... There have been no hardware changes, the hard drive has been tested as good (no bad sectors), her dual monitors are at a sane resolution, and I'm confident that the viruses has been removed. Trust me -- I've tried all the obvious stuff I can think of. Thanks and Good luck!

Well you probably pulled some icon cache files off that were infected but also had the L and XL icons. If sfc didnt work you could try a repair install. It will re-install only the files with different hash marks.

The Windows XP machine that my sister is using is having quite the issue. Whenever she views a folder in her My Pictures folder from Windows Explorer, in Photoshop, or when uploading to something onto the internet, it closes down. To be more specific, in the above three cases it closes Explorer (including the task bar), Photoshop, and the browser, depending on the method of viewing the pictures. It comes up with a submit error dialogue box, which along with the error logs don't seem to help me very much (unless you have a better understanding of them).

The only changes I can account for was the instillation of one or two LAN remote viewing programs, although one of them runs as is (so wouldn't count as installing). Before that I uninstalled a lot of programs from that computer because I have this new Vista Ultimate machine , and they said they didn't want all that "crap" on that computer anymore. I wouldn't blame them.

This problem isn't isolated to just her login, because under a new account the problem still happens.

So tell me what you think.

Dear Friends,

I have a WD External HDD and a 8gb jump drive. Recently both of them stopped showing me my data folders and it seemed like the external storage device were good as new. Although, on my computer it still shows the hdd data usage and I knew my files were in there. After a lotta R&D and trying various cmd commands, what worked for me was unhiding protected operating system files (not recommend by windows) in tool - folder options. Post this I could see a folder in my hard drive which had no file name at all. My data was moved inside this folder. Now it looks like the HDD software/OS has been reinstalled. I have two $RECYCLE.BIN folders along with other system folders. One pair in my HDD as soon as I open it and other pair inside this unlabeled folder (I have renamed it as 'hidden' in the attached file) where my previous data was stored in.
Where do I go from here .. Is there anyway to rectify this situation?

A:External HDD folder can't be viewed - HD OS has been reinstalled

I'm not clear on your problem... Sounds like your files are still there. I have no idea why they got moved.. but why can't you just cut/paste them to where you think they should be?

I've seen multiple posts here and other forums and I have tried all of the steps provided in those posts but it is not resolving my issue. I have the exact same issue as the user in THIS THREAD. I have tried the icon database rebuild (both manually and using the bat file HERE), I have tried ie4uinit.exe - ClearIconCache from command prompt, I have tried Disk Cleanup and checked the box to delete icon cache and I have tried different cache size amounts using the steps HERE. I've tried these all from normal boot and safe mode. I don't know what else to do. The icons that have the problem keep changing every time I restart the PC. I can change them to another icon, rename the icon the shortcut had previously been using and reapply that icon and it shows normal at that time but as soon as I restart the PC, icons change to the smaller size on random shortcuts again. What other steps are there?

Thanks in advance.

A:Multiple icons showing in smallest size when using Extra Large Icons

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Have you tried the batch file in this tutorial:
Folder View Settings - Reset All to Default
It resets the area of the registry that stores some desktop icon info.
warning: read the note about desktoprestore.

You might also want to try combining the batch file for icon cache rebuild with this one... only kill/restart explorer once at the end.

Does this problem happen if you create (& log onto) a new (test) user account?

I've been tinkering with the look of my whole system recently. I didn't like the default theme or the folder icons. Now with the help of SevenForums article How to change default folder icons: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...lder-icon.html. It was a very handy article that got me quite far and the same principles applied to Win10 as it did on 7

I've been able to change only a few of the default folders. Now as I'm fairly average at tinkering I've done what the article said on my 10 machine with some success as shown below:

However the live folders do not update despite editing both the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Shell Icons AND the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Shell Icons Registry locations. This met with the above result after a restart. Below you can see what I did to the registry:

As you can see from the registry paths I replaced 3, 4, 5 (back), 6 (front) and 162 (full). But 5, 6 and 162 have not updated at all.

So Am I missing something or is there no way to alter these types of folders? Including but not limited to such as the Fonts folder icon, live folders, full folders or folders containing data of one form or another for example:

Any thoughts, help or suggestions would be appreciated, and if this article happens to already exist somewhere I do apologise for cluttering the forum up here as I've not been able to find anything specific so far.

Just half an hour ago i FINALLY succeeded in a battle involving me, and the spyware that came from the wmf exploit, with my computer being the battleground.

I managed to recover everything, although i admit it was very hard because one of the spyware applications blocked my administration rights and didnt let me do certain stuff.

Now, maybe because of this, only one problem remained - the icons on my desktop are invisible.

Its not that theyre gone, theyre there, i just cant see them. I made a small graphic file for you to view, i think it describes the situation better:

So, any solutions? Sorry if this is obvious and easily solved by using the search function but im really tired of fighting the startup processes

Hello Olympian,

You might see if running a SFC /SCANNOW command may be able to fix the Start button if the theme modified the system file responsible for it.

Next, you might see if downloading and merging the .reg file for the listed Folder option in the tutorial below may be able to restore your folder icons. It will restore the default associations and registry entries for folders. Default File Type Associations - Restore

Hello guys,
I have been having various problems with my PC lately. It was having problems randomly turning off (as if I pulled the plug on it). I checked my power supply and it was fine so I sent off my motherboard back to the manufacturer (MSI, yes I know they are a horrible brand). I recently got a NEW motherboard back and I put my PC back together. I was still having the same problems and found that my RAM seemed to be the problem this time. Since then my icons in my tray seem to be invisible. Well at least two of them (nvidia settings, and network icons) they are unresponsive, and it does nothing when I click on them. I tried a system restore and that did not seem to help. I uploaded a picture of the problem and attached it to the thread. What do you guys think?

I don't think that type of customisation is built in to Windows, even though you haven't said which version you're referring to. You would need to install some third party customisation software which modifies the system files and that can be very risky. Some customisation packages can screw Windows up big time.

Hey all, First time post here. I stumbled upon the site when trying to search for what i'm experiencing with little luck. So here goes

At approximately 12:20pm ish 6/11/11 I was browsing monster.com and craigslist for jobs when I got an error message along the lines of "Hard disk cannot be accessed" or something similar to that. Telling me that 39% of my harddisk was corrupt. Now i becamse suspicious when another popup labled "windows 7 recovery" popped up, did a 10 second "scan" and told me that in order to repair the problem I had to purchase the full version of the program.

Now along with these error messages, all but one of my desktop icons disappeared. I tried restarting to see if it would give me any evidence of whether or not it was an actual hardware malfunction or just malware. Same two errors popped up along with an error message for ATI's catalyst control center :Host application not working.

I then proceeded do a system restore to a point 1 week ago. After which half my icons were recovered and the errors about my HD stopped, but the catalyst one continued. At this point I thought i had resolved the issues. I then tried replacing some of my desktop files with those from a flash drive which i routinely use to backup important files. It was at this point that my system asked me if I wanted to copy and keep or replace the files with the old ones, essentially telling me that my files were still there just not visible.

First, please forgive me if I have overlooked this issue in the many searches I have performed thus far.

I would like to know if anyone has a way to change all folder icons within a single folder to one specific icon without performing each one individually. I have over 1,400 folders within a master folder of which I would like to change the child folder icons. I really don't wish to perform this on a folder-by-folder basis.
This is not a Default Folder Icon Change inquiry. This is simply all child folders within a single master folder. I would also be interested if the change would affect all folders of a specific type. Windows 7 does allow the 'setup' of a folder to be distributed (details view with selected details, order, and column size for example) but the icon did not distribute as well.

Any suggestions?

A:Bulk Change All Folder Icons in Single Folder or Folder Type

First, a little bit of theory. What happens when a person sets a custom icon for a folder in Windows 7?
1. Attributes of a Folder change to Read-only (of the folder, NOT content!).
2. A hidden system file created inside that folder, which contains a link to the icon.

Thus, having such file as model, it is possible simply copy it across desired folders, and change attributes of those folders correspondingly.

Secondly, having this idea in my mind, I have put all of my little knowledge of Batch files together and created a script.
BEFORE script is started the following is needed to be done:
Master folder needs to be selected and a custom icon applied to it.

ONLY AFTER THAT

I exported a number of .vcf files (VCard files) to a folder on the desktop. But it's not showing. I refreshed and restarted but there's no sign of the folder.
I checked C:\Users\Name\Desktop and it's there, I can open the folder and the files are ok.
Where is it?

Hi,

Hope someone can help with this one. I have a fairly cheap mp3/mp4 player. Problem I have is a folder I deleted has not been removed. A new folder 'recycle' has appeared with the relevant file, renamed, in it. When I hook the player up to my pc I can't see the folder so can't remove it. It's not causing anything but taking up space but is really bugging me. Thought about reformatting but reckon that would probably delete everything rendering the player useless. Oh, and the display hidden files and folders option doesn't work either. Any help will be very much appreciated as it's driving me nuts.

A:Invisible folder!!

Sure that isn't RECYCLER?

That's the Windows Recycle Bin.
Connect the player, then empty the Recycle Bin.

You can set the Recycle bin so it doesn't monitor that device.
Do this with the device connected.

Right click the Recycle Bin icon on the Desktop
Click Properties
Click the Global Tab
Select Configure drives independently
Click the tab for the drive letter associated with the device
Check the box for Do not move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted.
Click OK

No recovering from an accidental delete though, but if you have the files on both the PC and the player you'd still have the PC copy.

Hello,

I have just installed Windows 7 64bit after using the RC for the last few months.

In doing so I copied the contents of my C drive to a folder called C DRIVE BACKUP on one of my secondary HDDs.

After formatting C and installing Windows 7 you can imagine my horror to discover that C DRIVE BACKUP had disappeard.

Acctually though it hasn't - if I type the directory into Explorer I can navigate it fine, but it doesnt show up in the directory above it.

I am very concerned about this as I dont know what other files & folders may be sitting on my drives but are not visible.

Does anyone know what may be the cause?

Between this, Flash player bringing up a UAC dialog on EVERY web page load and the vanishing recycle bin im wishing id just kept the RC!

EDIT: Hold on, turns out C DRIVE BACKUP thinks its a system file, thats why I couldnt see it, why I have no idea....

A:Invisible Folder

Just guessing:

If you copied your ENTIRE C drive to a backup drive, then you copied your installed programs, your Windows folder, system 32 folder and everything else to the backup location. That may be why it is hidden.

If you had copied ONLY your personal data from C to the backup drive, I would guess it wouldn't have disappeared.

I don't use that C:\users directory at all. All my data is on a D partition. Windows puts a few things in C:\users, but I rarely have to look there.

Hello everyone, im new to this forum and I came here with a slight problem that I need to have fixed. I recently downloaded a game, and set the install directory to my Program Files (x86) and when I go to see where the folder is for the game, its not there!
I've already tried showing all hidden files/folders etc and it still has not appeared.

There is only one place where I can see this folder, and its when I go to install it and I choose the directory as the Program Files (x86), as you can see in the pictures

Where I can actually see the file:
ImageShack? - Online Photo and Video Hosting

Where I cannot see it, even though its the same place:

So recently I had a devastating power loss event caused by a cat, and when I restarted, to my horror, it wasnt even recognizing my brand new Crucial C300 SSD. Long story short, luckily it isnt bricked, but I had to pull my CMOS battery before it recognized again.

So now everything seems to be working fine, except the notification area icons for what I can only assume are Network and Solve PC Issues are invisible and unclickable. Note that they are not simply missing, they do take up space between icons that are visible (Steam, MSE, Sound Settings), and the empty space glows on mouseover as if there was an icon there. Also Steam's icon was in the same state on startup but after I closed steam and opened it up again it returned.

Does anyone have any idea wtf is going on and how I can get those icons back?

I have vista x64 and recently after i cleaned a nasty out of my system, MOST of my notification area icons are invisible. They system icons (network, volume, clock) are showing but the others are not. I have gone in and made sure that i am not hiding inactive icons and far as making sure that I have set all icons to "show". Here is where it get really funked up. I can hover my cursor where the icons should be and it gives me the tips of that program. For example if i hover over where the windows update icon should be, it tells me that i have updates available. And it works. Whilst typing this i thought about changing my theme from vista to classic...the systray had a black box where the icons should be. Kinda like they were being censored but i swear i have no adult rated icons. The system icons still show. I have disabled the UPnP as well as SSDP discovery. I have deleted the registry values of past present and future icons of christmas. That was a joke. I have logged off and logged back on. The only thing that brought them back temporarily was to run ccleaner. After a reboot they went invisible like they were ashamed to be on a windows OS. Go figure. I re-ran ccleaner to no avail. I am now at a loss. I really don't want to reload windows but if i must, i must. Thanks in advance to any suggestions. Oh yeah, sorry for the novel.

Now,my only problem is that, whenever I set the blank icon, the icon of the folder just turns black...

Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop

Now when ever I open up any of the edit programs ( Word, Notepad ) it doesn't show that there is a document folder. If I save a file it goes some were never to be found again. When I look for the document folder ( C:\ user\owner\ ) All the folders are there Except the document folder. I check under the DOS prompt and it cant see it there. When I try and create a document folder it says that it already exist.

I pinned a folder named "Security" to my taskbar using the method on this page:

http://windows7center.com/tutorials/how-to-pin-any-item-to-the-taskbar-in-windows-7/
Specifically, I followed these instructions:

What we are going to do is pin a fake item to the taskbar and use it as scapegoat to change it to any function you’d like.

1) Pin any item to the taskbar.

Pinning folders as a separate item on the taskbar:

If you don’t like using jumplists, you can pin folders as an actual item. Navigate to the desired location and give the address bar a click. Copy the address that shows up. Skip to step 10.

Hold shift and right click the icon we pinned to the taskbar earlier, and choose Properties. Select the Shortcut tab, and paste the address into Target. Proceed to step 11.

Erase anything that is in the Start in box.

Click ok and you’re finished! The icon will not change unless you restart the explorer.exe process or log off then log back in.

The icon was on the taskbar but when I rebooted it was was gone. So I pinned the same folder again using a different method and when I tried to name that icon "Security" I got a msg saying there is already a link named "Security" so I assume the original one is still there, but I can't see it. Then when I rebooted, that second icon was also invisible.

So now how do I get rid of the darn things?

Thanks much,
Harold

G'day,

I'm in need of some help. I'm not enirely sure how this happened, but one of my data folders appears to have become invisible.

The folder in question is called General_Backup and resides on a RAID1 mechanical drive:

Here you can see that when I attempt to create a folder of the same name, that Windows warns me that the folder already exists - but for some reason its not visible in Explorer:

I have checked to make sure that Show hidden files, folders and drives is checked:

In an elevated cmd window, the folder is also invisible:

IRST did not report any errors, but I'm currently running a verify just to be sure:

So, it appears that on G: there are only 2 folders:

\Colin-PC = 52.1GB
\Shared_Folder = 15.7GB

This totals ~67GB, but you can see that 515GB is shown as used:

I'm a bit stumped. The folder obviously exists, but I cannot see or access it. Can anyone offer any suggestions for recovering this folder?

Thanks,
Golden

Hi. I have been going back and forth on the Windows XP forum looking for help to a troubling problem. It seems that I have a file or folder that is invisible in my Recycle Bin. I first noticed it about 3 or 4 days now, and I have tried everything to determine what this file is, as I do not want to delete an unknown entity that may crash my system. I have no idea how this got in my recycle bin. But, I do know for a fact that there is something in the bin. Everytime I try and delete items from my bin, there is always a mysterious added file to the deletion. For instance, if I place 2 files in the bin for deletion, when I go to remove all items in the bin, the question is asked, Are you sure you want to delete all three items in the bin? I have the "show hidden files" and "show system files' option on. So, although I KNOW that those folders exist,

A:Hidden / invisible folder or files

When in widows explorer you can choose to "view" hidden files and folders. While in windows explorer, click on TOOLS>FOLDER OPTIONS>VIEW and you'll see quite a few entries there. You need to select SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS and that should show you any hidden files/folders. I need to caution you though, you need to MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DELETING!! You could damage your system by deleting something you shouldn't, so be careful and if you have any questions about what to do, please post back here and someone will be able to help.

Earlier I ran Windows on a SSD and used two IDE drives in RAID 1 (hardware). Windows began to blue screen and in my attempts to figure out why, I decided to switch from hardware raid to software raid (both to figure out if the raid was the issue, as well as having read that software raid is prefered over hardware).

So, before one re-installation of Windows I had disconnected one of the raid drives and turned off the raid. Things worked out ok, in the sense that I didn't end up lose any data. The blue screen issue continued though. I bought a new SSD and the computer is working flawless. Problem solved.

Now on to my question. I still only have one IDE drive connected. On it there's an invisible folder, Boot, that contains a bunch of language folders, and a few additional files: BCD, BCD.LOG, BCD.LOG1, BCD.LOG2, BOOTSTAT.DAT, memtest.exe. The dates of these folders hasn't changed since May, which I suppose might've been when I installed Windows for the final time. So, what is this folder? Is it safe to delete? Did it have something to do with the hardware raid setup I used earlier?

The motherboard is an ASUS P8P67 Pro.

A:What is the invisible Boot folder on a non-OS drive?

Hi,

How did you perform the original installation with the original SSD?

It sounds like at least one IDE was still connected when you installed to the original SSD, and some of the boot files (BCD = boot configuration data) were installed to the IDE - this is why we always recommend that all devices with the exception of the disk to hold the Windows installation, is disconnected during OS installation.

To test, disconnect the IDE drive, reboot the PC -does it boot OK?

The snipping tool is a wonderful thing. Attaching a picture of what you mean is very helpful.. You can attach a file by using the paper clip after making Snipping tool copy.

For now all I might suggest is to adjust the view settings, or use the Organize option to go to folder options which are both in the "Title Bar" or close anyway

I fixed the time and had to use CCLeaner to fix the notifications problem and manually had to redownload definitions for antivirus programs.

I assume I have either a bios setting incorrect on my ASUS P5Q-PRO motherboard or it's something to do with my operating system running on an Agility 3 SSD

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

A:Hybrid Sleep problems, time went back, notification icons invisible...

Hi Ryan,

Does the PC work correctly with sleep and hibernate if you aren't using HYBRID sleep?
I've read it's often a GPU driver issue that causes sleep problems.
You can try updating your GPU driver.
If you have the latest driver, a previous version may work better and fix the issue.

Hello,
A software create directories on a typical Windows 2010 file server, really no configuration or law and restriction on the shared directory.
(This software uses Linux Samba to create the directory)

Randomly sometimes one does not see the directory created directly, we must close the explorer several times, wait a while or reboot the machine.

On the server directory exists immediately (Server 2012).

Please note this does not affect a machine, but the whole network.

I do not know what to think, someone has been there ever been such a problem?
Thank you,

I had a netsys.exe trojan and after I cleaned it using a combination of spybot and Mcafee, I went into my start menu to find something very strange happened. When I go into programs, everything is listed. But when I move over the programs to see the next set of folders, everything is invisible. The menu box appears and is completely transparent with no text visible. If I click on the place where the links should be, it works perfectly but they are just not visible. How can I make them visible again?

I have a file with important information saved in my documents folder.

The last time I accessed it was possibly a couple of months ago when transferring it onto a usb stick although I cant say for sure if I really did that as the file doesn't seem to be on the memory stick.

The file is not visible in the documents folder but when I search it shows up and has a short preview of some of the words contained within the file. When I try to open the file I get the message -

Cannot find the C:Users\Ken\Documents\PW.txt file.

Do you want to create a new file?

This is very frustrating as I need this file, does someone know what may be wrong?

I use Windows XP. I need to start up in safe mode to try to solve a computer problem. Whenever I start up in safe mode the Icons are so large that when I click on the program I need to use the screen is so large I can not see the bottom of the screen to click to the next page. Is there a way for me to reduce the icon size. I tried to make the change in Display but nothing happened. Help.

A:When In The Safe Mode The Icons Are Very Large

change your resolution settings. right click desktop. hit properties. then when the screen comes up go to the settings tab. then you will see a slider bar with your current resolution slide it to the right to increase the resolution and get the icons smaller

I don't understand why it is when I create an internet shortcut on a Windows 7 desktop, most of the icons are "miniature", where as some of them are full size on the desktop. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to which shortcut will be small and which will be full size.

Please see the attached screenshot. The site "Brass Goggles" is full size and "seven forums" is miniature.

On XP, these same sites were all full size. I have no idea what is causing this erratic behavior. Any ideas?

Bob

Is there a software or upgrade to be able to view extra large icons/thumbnails like we can in Vista into XP?

Please advise

A:Extra Large Icons in Vista - Can We Have it in XP?

Hi,

I also wanted larger icons. You can do it in XP ( I have Pro and Service Pack 3 but don't think that makes a difference..).

Go to Control Panel ( Ensure you are in Category View as opposed to Classic View in the Left Hand Pane) >Accessibility Options>Configure Windows to Work for your vision, hearing and mobility needs..

A Wizard will open for you to configure all sorts of things including Icon Size, text size, scroll bar size, cursor size, etc.

Hope this helps

We recently purchased a 22" widescreen Samsung EX2220 LCD monitor. Unfortunately the icons and labels on thedesktop and the teston the toolbars, taskbars, drop down menus are too small. I've changed the setting several times (Control Panel -display-Appearance-"Font Size" and all the "advanced" settings.) By doing this the fonts and text gets larger. However, every time we re-boot, all the settings go back to the way they were - small.
Does anyone know how to keep they large after a reboot?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
John

do that first, will help anyhow

your issue may be because your graphics can not handle the resolution you are wanting, check your graphics card/motherboard spec with manufacturer to see what max resolution is

I hope I can explain this properly.

In Windows 7 Professional x64, I have specified the size of icons appearing on my desktop (about half way between 'small' and 'medium'). This works very well and consistently.

However, when I move or copy a file to the desktop via right-click, or when I create a shortcut on the desktop via right-click, Windows creates a large size image of the file icon for me to drag and drop. Not only is the icon itself large, but it includes a substantial amount of space on all four sides of the icon. My file and folder icons in Windows Explorer are not even close to that size.

This causes a problem when I have several Windows open, because in that case I may be moving/copying/shortcut-ting to a relatively small area on my desktop, and the icon I am moving/copying/shortcut-ting doesn't fit into that small space because the icon, including the area around it, is so large. Consequently, Windows moves it to some other place on my desktop, where it finds enough space, and then I have to go looking for the icon.

This problem is particularly annoying when I have several files to move or copy, in which case Windows may scatter the moved/copied icons all over my desktop.

How can I reduce the size of the icon that appears for drag-and-drop, as well as the selected space around it?

A:Copy/Move Uses Large Icons

I suggest you turn off the "align icons to grid" and "auto arrange icons" options, to give you complete 100% control over where you want your desktop icons to live. Windows will not interfere at all.

Right-click on desktop, move the mouse over View to get the flyout, and uncheck these two options.

Note that this won't solve your "large icons" issue when you perhaps would want them to be somewhat smaller. But it will give you 100% control over icon placement and will never see Windows move it somewhere you don't want it to go. Wherever you put it... that's where it will stay, unless YOU drag it somewhere else.

Hi there,
I was just wondering is there anyway to edit the size of the icons more than the 'Extra large Icons' maybe a tool or some manual way ?
Thanks.

A:Bigger than 'Extra large Icons' ?

Hello MoeX,

Very good question and this has baffled me; i have done some research for you.

It appears that a icon's Value (size) are in pixels and range from 0x20 (32) to 0x100 (256) with the default being 0x60 (96).
(32) being the smallest, and (256) the "extra Large".

However Microsoft don't allow bigger then 256 Pixels (Extra Large). Bit of a bummer really.
There 3rd party applications available that allow you to view your photos in a bigger view, but not permanent thumbnails.

I'm sure there is a way to make them bigger if you had edited the registry, but i DO NOT recommend this, unless you are 100% sure what you are doing. and have a Back-up and Restore Point.

A:Space between the extra large icons

Hi SosRandom,

There is really no true way to change the spacing. The only workaround that I know of is to manually change the window size some to change the space inbetween the icons some.

Hope this helps,

Hello

I've been using the registry tweak found below in IE 10 to get Large Icons but this doesn't work anymore and from what I read it's because IE 11 is designed for Windows 8. Does anyone know a registry tweak to make this work in Windows 7.

Thanks

Internet Explorer - Use Small or Large Icons

A:IE 11 Use large icons no longer works

Yes I have Always been using that tweak myself too. And it did work in Windows 8 also. But since I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and got Internet Explorer 11, it ain't working anymore.

Edit: Funny enough; if you enlarge the system to 125% then do apear so they are somewhere in the system. But now a way to enable them in normal 100% view.

First of all sorry if this is the wrong section but I'm new here. So I used to have large icons on my desktop and after the electricity went off my PC shut down. When I restarted it some of the large icons were displaying as normal. I tried restarting the PC again but nothing happened, I tried to view all the icons on small and medium then in large and nothing happened. I tried deleting the shortcuts and make them again and still nothing happened. How can I fix this? Here are some pics, sorry for low quality:

Sorry folks, if this is the wrong place to post. Visual studio is not exactly an office product, so I am posting here for lack of a better category.

I installed 2010 and was surprised to see the tiny icons in the toolbar. So that those of you not familiar with the problem understand, the toolbar icons in Visual Studio 2010 are about half the size of the icons in the message tools on this forum.

Searching the web I see a number of complaints but no solutions. Microsoft rep's just "thank us" for our concern. Might anyone know how if there is a fix or a hack to get some resonably sized (twice as big at least) icons for the toolbar?

Thanks.
