Mouse freezes - having to switch off notebook regularly

Q: Mouse freezes - having to switch off notebook regularly

Can anyone help?

For the past month or so every time I am in the middle of doing something - usually on the Internet - the cursor stops moving and nothing happens when I press the Winkey or CTRL+ALT+DELETE.

I've done several system scans but found nothing. The mouse is built in and not a USB mouse and I am using Vista Home Premium on a Del Inspiron 6400.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Welcome,

Can be memory or other causes. Fill out your system specs and I will try to help.

While you get the information that I need, you can download this. You may want to run it overnight, because it needs several runs to be accurate.

Hello,

I have Win XP Home. When I switch user accounts (without logging off--only switch users) the mouse freezes up.

Both user accounts have administrator privileges. This happens *every* time I switch users.

I can unfreeze the mouse by using Ctrl+Alt+Del to log off.

I have scanned my system for virus and malware with ESET NOD 32 Antivirus and Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware. I also run Spyware Guard.

Also, I have recently run Disk Cleanup and Defrag.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi,
I have a D-Link KVM switch which was working fine switching between my XP SP2 computer and my Vista computer.
Then I decided to install 2002 norton goback for some stupid reason. Then my computer would not reboot. So I rebooted in safe mode and did a system restore for earlier install in the day.

But now my XP computer loses(freezes) my mouse pointer when I switch over to my Vista computer and back. The Vista computer keeps the mouse active. The only way I've found to get control of the mouse pointer back is to reboot - that's no good.
I've updated the bios. I've uninstalled the mouse driver, and let XP reinstall them. Nothing works so far. By the way 2 driver files show up for the mouse, i8042prt.sys and mouclass.sys. Am I supposed to have both these driver files? I have a PS2 mouse.

Anyone have any suggestions short of reinstalling XP, all the drivers, and programs again?

A:Mouse Pointer Freezes Using Kvm Switch

Sorry to hear your problem. I have both those drivers on my WinXP SP2 system, so they are not the problem. I run a KVM switch between this and a dual 98/Linux machine with no problem, so I won't be trying your Norton product. In general, I have had complete disasters with all the "roll back" utilities I have tried, including the MS checkpoint one - it always fails. If you want to do proper backups of your system volume, I suggest using the Ziff-Davis version of BartPE with DiskImageXML: it really works.
I have had problems of mouse-lockup caused by "broken" graphics drivers, but I cannot help you really; you might try reinstalling your graphics driver, a lot quicker than doing a complete reformat and WinXP install.

Hello all. Not sure if this belongs here or somewhere else; mods please move it if this isn't the appropriate place.

I'm using Windows Xp Home Ed w/ Service Pack 2. In the past I have succesfully used the Fast User Switch tool of Windows to quickly change between two accounts (both are Admin accs).
However, a grave and persistent problem occurred the instant I changed my old monitor to a new Acer V233H. After installing the new monitor, whenever I use Fast User Switch to
log onto my secondary account, my mouse cursor freezes and doesn't move no matter what. And even if I press the Windows key and navigate back to the primary account that way,
the problem persists. Only after resetting the comp does it disappear, but for the time being I simply cannot use FUS.

I've tried logging onto the secondary account first, and it lets me do that and the mouse doesn't freeze. However when I switch to my main acc from there, the mouse freezes again.

I have my suspicions already: with this monitor, no ordinary drivers were issued. When I click on my Display Properties, I see "Plug&Play Display"; what controls the resolution
and the settings of this new monitor is a program called Acer eDisplay Management. Which loads only on the account that is first activated, you guessed correctly.

Now, I've found an 'actual' driver for this particular monitor on the web, in case the aforementioned display control program is indeed non-compatible with Fas... Read more

A:Fast user switch freezes mouse cursor

Are your graphics drivers up to date.

The site where you found the driver files for the monitor
should have given instructions for installation, IMO.

First, create a restore point, if you want to test your new drivers.

Right click on the .inf file - you should have an 'install' option
on the menu. Follow the instructions, if any.

Reboot, see if there's any change.

Hi all,
I have just assmebled a new PC.
SKT775 motherboard, 3Ghz P4 531, 1GB RAM, DVD drive, SATA HDD

I booted it to try and install windows XP home and after a short time it hung during installation. I tried re-booting and this time it got slightly further but hung again. After a few more goes it eventualy managed to install XP but now I have it up it will freeze after its been running for a few mins.

Incidentally, it also hangs when I try and install ubuntu and I've never managed to get that installed.

I've reseated/reconnected the RAM, CPU, HDD, DVD drive but still no change. I've also tried a different stick of RAM but not change.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be? I've wondered if it might the CPU over heating, but it has a very large geat sink on which never feels that hot to touch.

thanks in advance for any help

Hi, I recently had a problem with my PC failing to boot on most occasions. I took it into a repair shop, where after a lot of trial and error, it proved to be a PSU problem. Whilst they were fitting the new PSU, I also asked them to put in a new hard drive and completely reformat everything and reinstall Win7 etc, because over the last year it had gotten a little buggy.

The original problem was solved by the new PSU, but the PC kept freezing regularly whilst I was installing my software or copying over my files from my external. The only thing I could do was a hard reset. I took it back to the repair shop who believed it was the new hard drive. They removed it, fitted another and again reformatted.

After that I only experienced 1 instance of the PC freezing (when I was installing my Adobe products).

However, whenever I'm gaming (BF3, Bad Company 2 or Left 4 Dead 2), the PC is again freezing forcing me to hard reset.

I'm at a loss really. I've got the latest nVidia drivers, new RAM, new Hard Drive, new PSU and have had my PC wiped clean (and phyiscally cleaned). I've never had this problem before. Anyone have any ideas? Could it be the latest nVidia drivers?

My spec:

GPU: 2x Nvidia 280GTX SLI
GPU Driver version: 285.62
Ram: 8GB 16000

Hi there,
I've had problems with my laptop for a good few months now and after many hours spent trying out different programs and problem solvers etc etc i've decided to turn to the experts.
My laptop freezes regularly so that I cannot move the mouse or perform any functions whatsoever and the only way to solve the problem is to hold down the power button, the last 1 or so second of audio is also looped whenever the laptop freezes. Also, I have to wait around 10 to 20 seconds to turn the laptop back on otherwise the startup process simply does not take place, despite the power coming on.
This usually happens whenever I am either: watching movies full screen, playing call of duty or many other games, watching youtube sometimes, running windows memory diagnostic, and can just happen randomly even with no programs open.
I have tried running the microsoft verifier tool to discover whether it was a driver based problem but whenever I run it I get the blue screen telling me that there is a problem with the driver being verified, no matter what driver I choose to verify, so that wasn't all too helpful.
I've also attatched the BSOD thingies even though that isn't my main problem as such.

I would appreciate any help. I have been troubleshooting my computer off and on for nearly 3 weeks. I am thinking most likely it is a hardware problem.
The computer will nearly always freeze within 10 minutes of booting up. Sometimes it doesn't even make it into windows. I am fairly computer savvy having built 4-5 computers in the past. I have reinstalled the operating system on several occasions as I have been getting propblems with corrupt system files.

System specs
ASUS A8N-SLI premium
AMD FX-55 64 bit processor
2 chips of Corsair 1gig ram XMS3200 400MHz
2 500GB WD SATA drives
EVGA GeForce 7800 GTX 256 MB PCI-E
PC Power and Cooling Turbo-Cool 1 kW power supply.

I have ran WD full HD diagnostic and it says everything is fine with no errors detected.

I would like any ideas or other diagnostic utilities to run, preferably free.

Thank you

Ok so I got this laptop off craigslist, works great 99% of the time. But I've noticed that it will regularly freeze usually about once a day. Every time I've been doing something diffrent but usually trying to type or click on something.

From what I can tell the system is a couple of years old the sticker on it indicated it originally had win vista but somewhere along the way a previous owner upgraded it to win 7 ultimate. I have current and up to date antivirus, AVG Free Edtion and antispyware, spybot search & destroy. Ran both they come back clean. Here is the results from running hijack this:

A:System Regularly Freezes

Hi,

This forum helped before with a BSOD I was experiencing. It turned out that my Logitech mouse drivers needed updating.
Now the same computer has another problem. The screen freezes regularly, soon after startup. There is no BSOD, the screen just freezes, i.e. the second hand on the desktop clock stops, I can see what I was working on at the time and the PC must be forcably restarted.
The PC is an ASUS G73-JW. It is running Windows 10.
Removing the power cable, then removing the battery for a minute, and then returning both gives several hours of uninteruption but the freezes have always returned eventually.

A:PC freezes regularly, soon after startup.

That very logitech driver is still too old for Windows 10.

Code:
31/05/2013 00:15:44 C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\LGSUsbFilt.Sys

It can be assumed easily that the drivers prior to windows 10 will not work properly with windows 10.

Apparently your computer does not officially support Windows 10. .

Before anything else, please let us know how you got the drivers? What is the source of the drivers that you have installed?

Hi, I have a laptop V3-371 which worked perfectly until last week. After booting my machine regurlarly becomes very slow and freezes. After a hard reset I experienced the same problem over and over again. I then reinstalled the OS in safemode with a full erase of all data. This seems to work out for a while but soon I got the same issues again as mentioned before. Is it a hardware problem (SSD drive Or Ram?) I've done all the tests within MS like Ram test, Window Defender and other problem checks. All seems Ok. But unfortunately it is not.  Anyone an idea what causes this problem?

My computer freezes randomly. It could freeze now. What happens is, is that the mouse, the screen and everything freezes. The system light doesn't flicker, and there is absolutely no activity at all from my computer at the time. It can happen when playing a game, logging on or doing anything at all. I thought it could be the heat, but the highest temperature it gets to is 61C, after playing a game...or at 100% load according to my graphics driver tool. Don't have a blue screen warning either, and I have to hold down the shut down button if this happens. My specs are pretty good, so should I send this off on warranty or fix it myself?

A:Computer freezes randomly, regularly

Here's an idea.

Update Windows or/and try disconnect your usb devices.

If you want to have the mods respond to your problem, you should try to include some more spcific detail about the error from eg eventviewer or your bsod dump files.
Try the program bluescreenview.

Hope it helps.

I just received confirmation that my next level support has one of the Western Digital drives specified in the discussion thread for the Y50 HDD freezing. They were already looking at it for reports of slow keyboard typing after sleep mode. Slow keyboard typing is a known sign of hard drive issues, so this ties together nicely. They are now in the process of swapping out the suspect hard drive with a model by another manufacturer to verify the problem is not tied to anything else in the machine.

If the test results do point to the hard drive, the investigation will be escalated internally. Unfortunately, I am unable to provide a guess at how long this next step in the process will be.

However, I will continue to post updates in the discussion thread as they develop and I am able to share them.

Thank you for your continued patience as the issue is worked.

12/4 EDIT: This post has been moved for escalation purposes. Also, it has has been determined that slow keyboard typing is not related to a particular hard drive. Amy_Lenovo

Hi,I recently purchased a y-50 non-touch with window 8.1, and 16 gb of ram and the Nvidia 680m 4gb graphics card. When I play games that require the Nvidia card, they sometimes freeze for 1-5 seconds, and the audio stutters. (I hear a "h-h-h-h-h-h-ello", when it should be "hello"). Any help on understanding these issues would be greatly appreciated. As far as I know, it only happens when the computer has been running for 15 minutes.Sample scenario: Launch game, plays fine for about 10 minutes,Video freezes for ~3 seconds accomanpied with the audio playing the same stuttering of what is supposed to be playing for that frame it froze on. Game continues as normal. This happens at least 3-4 times in a 45-50 minute session. The games i've encountered this problem are: Team fortress 2 and League of Legends  Thanks

My laptop is a toshiba satellite a505-s6033. For the past two weeks or so my computer has randomly frozen up and must be shut down by holding the power button (i'm not incredibly tech savy so bear with me!). These freezes USUALLY happen while playing world of warcraft. sometimes i can go on playing for 4+ hours and sometimes 30 seconds. The freeze will occasionally happen when booting up and when watching videos. Using facebook / techguy RARELY causes the freeze. About 10 minutes ago i was watching a music video on youtube and the freeze occured. For some reason, I was able to still hear the music.when it freezes up i am unable to use ctrl + alt + delete and the mouse cursor will not move. So apparently my sound will still work.

around the same time that the freezes started to occur, i dropped my laptop off of my bed. it fell backwards and landed on the "top" where it says toshiba. I'm not sure if this is the reason for the problem or not. Another suspicion i have is this battery warning i'm getting. on the toolbar where it shows my battery charge icon, there is an X across the icon. when i click it, it says the following "there is a problem with your battery so your computer my shut down suddenly". I've tried using the computer with the battery out and only using the charger, but the freezes still continue. I'm trying to think of any more data that might help out. it's reallllllyyy starting to bug me. i brought my computer ... Read more

i am with family for an early christmas vacation and found a pc that's regularly crashing 3-5 times after a cold start, and i am told it works well after that. i have "only" experienced one crash yet, yesterday, and the machine is stable now and was again after a restart yesterday. os is win xp, it is protected by kaspersky and cleaned with crapcleaner. as far as i am told the pc itself has been vacuum cleaned and brushed some time ago because of this issue, and should be practically dust-free. any ideas on where to start looking for issues? i suspect it is a hardware-thing, just because of the stability i am told it displays when running for a while.

A:PC freezes regularly when cold, stable when warm

Some power supplies are affected by cold temperatures, as is thermal paste and the resulting detection. We see poorly made cables that create the same failures as there is apparently enough change to reduce full electrical contact.
Don't know of an easy fix, except to start replacing components and changing the thermal paste.

Hello,
My parents bought an AX3995-UR20 in the last year, and very little has been downloaded on to it, so mostly the computer has the default programs. I have downloaded Word of Tanks onto it, but nothing other than the default game has been added, and I've experienced no issues with the game itself. Some of the problems I've been having are:
- Google Chrome crashes regularly
+ This usually happens when multitasking after Chrome is opened; I'll switch to another program (IE, WoT, etc.) and chrome will freeze, and then crash
+Issues with Google Chrome also happen to IE
+ WoT will update its state as I have Chrome maximized (move to another loading screen/ start game) and this seems to be when Chrome crashes.
+Chrome will also freeze/crash when I do something in Chrome, such as load a gif, without anything else open
- The computer will not update
+ it asks for a restart to update, and then fails to finish and abandons the update
+ this also happens when I attempt to force an update
- Sometimes, after sleeping, the computer will black screen and needs to be turned off manually before it can be used
+ I really don't like manually shutting off the computer every other time I need to use it, I don't want to hurt it/ corrupt data
-Word has crashed when I attempted to save my document; this has happened only once and could be a fluke
- Intel Support Manager tells me it crashed almost every time I log in

Hi

This seems to me an impossible question to ask - like "I have a headache, what is wrong with me?" but I'll give it a try.

For the last two weeks my PC randomly, regularly freezes, Have to manually power down and reboot.

I had installed google chrome and as it was the only change made, searched for a connection there.

I found some folks who had trouble with chrome and windows search - making the pc freeze up.

SO I tried to disable windows search. As I recall, search had an option to disable for all subdirectories and I took that option. An
eternity later, search was still running through subdirectories so I stopped it. And turned it off through windows services.

Problem kept happening. SO I ininstalled chrome. Problem kept happening.

I went back to a system restore point that turned out to be after I installed chrome but it was before the freezing up started.

That didn't help. For a day or two I was having trouble getting the pc to boot up. It would boot in safe mode, I would run anti-virus

Now, the pc is booting fine and working anywhere from 5 minutes to 5 hours before freezing. No rhyme or reason that I can detect.

I have run avast anti-virus and spy bot - no problems.

I've had my computer for about a year. I am really into gaming so I use it nearly every day for long periods of time. I installed windows 10 in August: no problems.
Last week my computer randomly started freezing about every 1 hour and half to the point where I can only restart. It has done this continuously since last week. Other than this the computer has no problems and can still run games well. However, in gaming sessions this can be quite the problem.
I've looked at a lot of other forums of people who had a similar problem to this and none of their solutions seem to work.
Does anyone know what is broke / malfunctioning and what I can do to help it?
Thanks

I haven't had any problems in a while since I started using SuperAntiSpyware.

However, in the past two weeks, sadly, things have changed. After booting up, the monitor flashes completely black (as if I turned it off) for 1 or 2 seconds, maybe 2 or 3 times, sometimes a few seconds apart, sometimes 10 or 15 minutes apart.

Then, shortly after that, the system freezes - everything locks up, CTRL-ALT-DEL doesn't work, the Windows key doesn't
work, the mouse doesn't work, etc. I have to do a hard reboot.

I've run Superantispyware and RegCure many times. Seems like SuperAntiSpyware picks up a number of adaware issues when I
go to some of the malware sites (which seems pretty strange to me), but I don't seem to be picking up any dangerous virus.

Here's the most recent SAS log:

I have Windows 7 x64 Home Premium SP1 on a brand new HP i got at Best Buy. Since i got it, when i am using the PC, the programs stop responding and the internet as well. the mouse just gives me the rotating blue circle. even when i hit "ctrl, alt, delete" to open task manager, it still doesn't respond. Then after a minute, the PC is running fine and fast. At least till it freezes a couple minutes later. This happens regularly every couple minutes without fail. I tried disabling the internet and just use program and it still happens. I have defraged and still no help. i tried restoring to factory and using no new programs and it still happens. i have tried every malware and antivirus i could think of including ESET, Kaspersky, MalwareBytes, Windows Essentials, Spybot S&D, CCleaner, jv16 power tools, HP's own programs too. i have tried uninstalling everything. Nothing works. When i ask the Geeks at B.B., they said i have a virus... mind you, without even turning it on or asking me what i have tried. then he said all my programs are fake crap and i need to install Kaspersky for only a couple hundred $$. Well all he wants is my money. I hope i'm not the only one this happens to for the sake of fixing this and helping those who have this issue.

A:Windows 7 constantly & regularly freezes/pauses for no known reason

The problem is most likely pre-installed programs. Open Programs and Features in Control Panel and do a screenshot. Also take a screen shot of the startup tab in MSConfig. From there we can give you advice on what to stop from running at startup and what to just remove entirely. Somestuff that is preinstalled we do not recommend removing merely because we do not always know exactly what they do.

The computer freezes regularly. I haven?t noticed any pattern. Also, on booting, the BIOS often, but not always, reports these resource conflicts:
PCI Serial Bus Controller: slot 03, B:06, D:04, F:02
Mass Storage Controller: slot 03, B:06, D:04, F:03
PCI Mass Storage Controller: slot 03, B:06, D:04, F:04
PCI Network Controller: slot 04, B:06, D:04, F:00
It also reports that the CPU is on B:06, D:04, F:00. (I don?t understand these conflict reports.)

Until recently, when these conflicts showed up, the device manager said that the WLAN and Ethernet adapters, and IEEE 1394 Bus controller failed to start. Now however, I just get the BIOS message, while the device manager reports everything?s OK. My WLAN connection is intermittant, even though the signal is strong and is in the same room as the router.

All installed hardware is original except for the hard disk. I had to replace the disk last year. After installing the OS from the original install disks but before I could update from SP2 to SP3, I got a virus in netbt.sys. My anti-malware software could not isolate the problem, so I overwrote the file from the OS install disk. When I upgraded to SP3, I (mistakenly?... Read more

Okay, a lot of info here... Laptops are a lot different than desktops when it comes to freezing and BSOD's. You are sill using XP, so the laptop is a bit old now, right? Did you revert to XP from Vista or Windows 7? This would explain the driver difficulties... Are there any yellow exclamation points in the Device Manager? If so, a clean install of XP might be warranted

I have run multiple system scans with multiple virus protection programs. A few trojans were found in some downloaded mp3 files and deleted. Something must have slipped by, it is getting worse everyday. Now about every 1-5 minutes any applications I have running will minimize or be deselected as if something is being loaded or I am clicking on the windows taskbar. I don't know how else to describe it. Even right now as I am typing this message I have to keep clicking back into the text box to continue typing. When I first upgraded my RAM in this computer I could have World of Warcraft loaded sitting in Shattrath with hardly any lag, while in the background running Morpheus, Firefox with 8 tabs each different websites, AND have Warcraft 3 up in running as well, all the while running very smoothly and not even capping out my dual core cpu's at 75%. Now if I even try to open a website while playing World of Warcraft I risk bumping my CPU usage to 100% and the whole system freezes and sometimes I get a Blue Screen of Death (BSoD has occured multiple times so far). Hello all, this is my first post here, but you all seem so very friendly and helpful so thank you for providing such a welcoming atmosphere!

My wife has a Sony Vaio laptop that seems to work just fine (and she also has taken very good care of it over the years) but it seems to occasionally, and more regularly hang or freeze when in use. It is typically within 10-20 minutes after it has been started. Either everything will freeze, or applications will stop responding and the mouse will still move, but it is just a loading circle icon when hovering over the start menu.

This also tends to happen when the computer goes to sleep and then is woken back up.

Here are the specs from the Sysinfo app:

My own notebook (Asus EEE PC S101), running Windows XP service pack 3) was twice redirected to an unknown website when I wanted to visit the Guardian newspaper website. I was using IE version 8. Then the notebook froze. When this happened, I had to switch it off without using Cleanup, which I have used safely for a long time. When I had switched it on again, I used Firefox to go to the Techsupport Forum. I followed the instructions to download dds.scr and began running it. Then the notebook froze again. It still tells me "Two logs shall be created on your desktop" Now the cursor does not move any more either. I write this from another notebook, but I cannot create a logfile,m as everything is frozen on my own notebook. Help, please,

This is really starting to annoy the hell out of me. I just picked up a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse, the Notebook 5000 mouse to be exact for my home entertainment center.

I have my PC ran to a monitor and a 55 inch Samsung LED LCD TV for watching movies etc. The problem is, the HDMI cord is run threw the wall so the PC is in another room so I cant use the normal mouse on the PC. I bought a bluetooth mouse due to the increased range but I'm having nothing but issues.

I have the Microsoft Bluetooth dongle btw, didn't come with the mouse, the mouse actually comes with no dongle.

Anyway it connects fine but if I stop using it for like an hour or whatever it disconnects and nothing I do will reconnect it unless I take my other mouse, go into bluetooth devices, delete it and readd it all over again.

WHY THE HELL does it keep doing this lol?

It's very annoying, I sit down to watch a movie and discover I cant start it without first going into the other room and readding my mouse.

I'm well within range and I've tried moving the bluetooth mouse to the same room as the PC to use it with the PC and it still does the same thing.

Help?

I have the following notebook.

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 Proffesional x64.
I used the Asus CD to install all Asus stuff. Even the ones I don't need.

My notebook as two graphics cards. The default Intel Onboard card and the more powerful 1GB nVidia GeForce GT425M 1GB video card.
Before the upgrade (which was a clean install) when I played a game (left 4 dead2, call of duty: black ops) the notebook automatically switched from the Intel to the Nvidia graphics card. But it doesn't anymore.
I have read that my notebook used Nvidia Optimus technology to do this.
Although I can't seem to be able to solve the problem.

Hello everyone,

It is my first post on that forum, so again - hello.

I do have some problems with my notebook - Acer TimelineX 5820TG with PQI S525 128GB SSD drive as a replacement for the oryginal drive.

After using it for three months, it started not to wake up from sleep, running extremly slow on startup, finally my graphics quality and performance in Starcraft II dramatically decreased to the point when even menu was "crippin".

I did reverted the system to the point after just drivers and Office 2010 were installed (+ skype + avira as well). Everything was running smooth for four days maybe. Again, SC2 got unplayable, and moreover, I have occasional BSODs (twice i think) during the GPU switching from ATI to Intel ( external to internal GPU).

Hello there, well... i'm not on the BSOD squad but from what i see in the log, the cause of that particular BSOD is the Avira Antivirus and your Graphic Cards...

I also recommend to download the drivers from the manufacturer's website, in your case, go to:

Graphics Drivers & Software

And download the latest drivers for your notebook.

After that, uninstall your current ATI drivers, run Driver Sweeper to remove any leftover from the drivers, reboot and then install the new ones...

Hi all,
As the title says i occasionally get this problem. My computer qwill freeze for a few seconds followed by system lag which seems to get worse (freezing every few seconds/taking 2 seconds to recognise a click etc.). If i reset my computer it resolves the issue but i was hoping you guys may be able to give me more insight as to what the issue may be.

It nearly always happens when i am browsing in firefox. Have never had it happen to me during gaming etc. which is why i'm hesitant to believe it is to do with my GPU or it's drivers which are always kept up to date.

i have included pics of the cursor and what processes were running at the time of the freeze/lag

When downloading anything I have to constantly move mouse/cursor or it pauses.

Although this problem is raised in forum after forum, and question area - not one of them has the answer - and the threads just get closed off. Can anyone actually answer this one?

Did anyone anywhere ever get this sorted and can they come back and say what they did to resolve it please?

I just bought new mouse from eBay. It's excellent and all that, but whenever I hold right mouse button and then press middle mouse button, my mouse locks down and unlocks only after I do that again. Is it possible to disable it?
All I know about my mouse is this:
2,4 ghz wireless optical mouse with mini usb

A:Mouse freezes on [Hold RMB + click middle mouse button]

I've never seen any other posts with that same problem so it may be intentionally built-in to that particular mouse to prevent others using your PC when you're away from it. Read it's instructions if you got any with it, it should tell you if it's got a built-in mouse lock, although that feature usually requires additional third-party mouse software to be installed to recognise when the appropriate buttons have been pressed.

If no instructions were supplied, go to it's manufacturer's website to see if it's mentioned there.

This problem has been persisting for a few weeks. I did a fresh re-install of windows 8 (genuine) and it is still happening so I thought I would ask for help. When I first turn my desktop on everyday within 5 minutes of starting up it freezes, no mouse or keyboard response (sometimes before I even have a chance to login). I have tried unplugging and plugging them back in to no avail. If there is anything animated (like a game) on my screen at the time of the freeze it will also be frozen. I have also tried waiting to see if it will unfreeze, even after 1 hour there is no change. Fans are still spinning and all lights (in tower and on headset/keyboard/mouse) are operational. So after the initial freeze I restart the computer and every single time within 5 minutes of starting up again the mouse will freeze. But only the mouse (keyboard and programs on screen are still operational). This is easily fixed by unplugging it and plugging it back in. Then the computer is good to go for the rest of the day. At first I thought it was a problem with my mouse (Steel Series Sensei Raw) so I swapped it out (Logitech G600) and uninstall the Steel Series software with Revo uninstaller, but even after that the problem persists, and that was before I did a fresh re-install of Win8. Enabled Startup programs:  Avast AntivirusNvidia BackendNvdidia Capture Server ProxyRealtek HD Audio ManagerusbmonitorI have attached my Dxdiag file as well. Thank you in advance

My mouse cursor will randomly freeze or disappear, yet it remains active. I can still use it by feel. If I turn mouse trails on a duplicate mouse shows up that works and the frozen one remains, although its not completely frozen as it will still change into other cursors ie the hourglass. Eventually mouse trails turn off all on its own and im left with no cursor again. I've updated drivers and checked all the settings and am left with no solution. Any help would be very appreciated.

I am using a D-link KVM switch to switch between computer 1 and computer 2. My optical mouse goes dead when I switch to computer 2 from computer 1. The optical mouse and keyboard are Logitech. Keyboard works fine after switching. Only the mouse goes dead. Currently I use an optical mouse on position 1 (computer 1) on the switch and a regular wheel mouse on position 2 (computer 2) to try and deal with the issue. Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause and a solution of the mouse going dead? By going dead I mean the cursor on the screen on computer 2 will not move when the optical mouse is moved after I switch from Computer 1 to Computer 2. The optical mouse will move the cursor immediately after booting up on Computer 2 but will not move the cursor on Computer 2 after switching over from Computer 1 to Computer 2. Computer 1 is running XP and Computer 2 is running Wn98. I used the switch, mouse, keyboard, and monitor just prior to a change of hard drives switching between Computer 1 running XP and Computer 2 running 98 with no problems. I have reinstalled drivers from Logitech but without success. Thank you in advance for any replies.

Is there any USB mouse switch/selector, say 1 mouse to control any of the 8 mice, on the market that will.
Better if it is wireless.

See if a local store or your favorite online store has a KVM switch.

I'm not sure what to suggest for the Ethernet and HDMI switch.

Hello! I have eight computers hooked up to a Belkin OmniView 16-Port KVM Switch, and I've recently been having a freezing problem with the mouse. When I switch away from a computer and then switch back, I'll often find that the mouse has frozen on the screen even though the computer itself isn't frozen and the mouse still functions fine on other computers. The only way to fix it is to restart. This has happened to every one of the computers, and it's begun to happen much more often than it used to. It's driving me up the wall. Does anyone have any nuggets of wisdom on how to fix this? Thanks!

i get frequent freezes..Ctrl +alt+del doesnt work

then i reset with button and i get this or the boot error device warning.

so my solution is to open my tower and switch the sata 0(my SSD with OS) to Sata 2
then reboot and it works...

windows 8 ultimate with media center and office 2013

now i know lots of you are going to say you don't need it or it can interfere with the OS...but it works great and im a Norton certified tech.i did all the tests(un install test for 1 month same issue)

Hello, I am trying to make a script or reg file to switch on and off "enhance pointer precision" which is generally a mouse acceleration you can set in control panel. I was trying to find what's happening in registry via sysinternals Process Monitor, but did not see anything interesting. Then I found that a value HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse\MouseSpeed switches between 0 an 1 when I check/uncheck this in control panel, but it is probably not the only thing! Because When I change this manualy it does not do anything and the mouse settings remains unchanged... What do you think? I was trying to find some WMI method but failed...

A:reg or script to switch mouse acceleration

To give you an idea, to get the higher speed:

MouseThreshold1 = 0
MouseThreshold2 = 0
MouseSpeed to 1 or 2 (1 X2 the normal speed, 2 X4 the normal speed)

When I stick them in the KVM switch, you can here the USB connect sound and both devices are shown under unknown devices, wereas the are shown under devices when connected through the front side USB ports.

Any one an idea how to salve this? by the way the KVM switch is also 'seen' by W7 under devices even though it doens't need any drivers. All conncected devices are shown (I have also 2 USB drives)

A:Keyboard & mouse not recongnized on KVM switch

I had the same problem w/ windows 7 build 7022 x86 and kvm cs-62du. I figured out that you have to put your laptop to sleep mode and switch to that port on kvm before connection. After wakeup external monitor gets recognised on correct resoultion. To get usb mouse/keyb worked you might use other (black, not violet) usb socket. This is a workaround, not a solution, I know.

My dell d630 generates bsod after docking 50-50 percent If I not use sleep-wakeup trick before docking.

I've got two PCs connected to single monitor, keyboard and mouse via a KVM switch. My keyboard is a Logitech G110 (USB wired) Gaming Keyboard. My mouse is a Logitech Invisible Wireless mouse. My problem is that often when connected to the KVM switch all inputs and outputs work except the keyboard and the mouse. The port indicator selector light which normally is ON steady is now flashing. This is my second Airlink 101 KVM switch and I tried them also with an IOGear KVM Switch Model # GCS632U. There is nothing wrong with the mouse or the keyboard because when connected directly to either PC they work. My question is: Is there a compatibility issue with certain keyboard and mouse models when used with KVM switches, by this I mean that some keyboards (particularly gaming keyboards) and mice may require more power and the KVM USB circuit has power limitation. At present I am left switching the keyboard and the mouse USBs directly to the PC I wish to use.

It freezes sometimes but not always. The bottom task bar disappears and the area where it should be is a bright blue with some white box borders around it.

I can't click to launch any applications. I can press ctrl-alt-delete. If I select shut down it tells me that explorer.exe is not responding. If I press end task it doesn't seem to do anything. I have to press the power button and hold for ~ 5 seconds to restart.

Last night I tried a system restore to a restore point from about a week ago. I think that's before the problem started. Didn't seem to make a difference.

I've run the Zone Alarm spyware and antivirus applications. I've run Spybot and AdAware. Nothing obviously malicious and I've fixed all apparently minor problems they've found.

I don't think I've installed any new software since the problem started.

A:Explorer.exe freezes sometimes when I switch users

I've seen some improvement.

Since my post I've run msconfig and under Services I deselected things labeled "unknown" in the manufacturer column:

- the "Apple Mobile Device" which I think came on after I installed ITunes and then uninstalled it.

- something called "DSBroker Service"- I don't know what it is.

- InstallDriverTable Manager

In the startup tab I deselected QTTask, Realplay, and Adobe Update Manager- all things related to applications that have given me trouble before.

I've had no freezes since then. I'm not sure which of those items above may have been the problem, or if something else is going on and this is just a coincidental improvement,

My Gateway 4016 computer freezes into weird graphics screen or switch off all together whenever I have usb wireless plugged in or any usb flash drive plugged in.

If I unplug all the usb plugged into the computer and just re-start with windows it o.k.

If I try to re-boot in any mode with usb plugged in like usb wirless it will shut off the computer just before starting the Windows desktop.

Or after Windows starts, if I try to plug in any usb device after it will freeze or switch off.
How can I solve this problem ?

Thanks.

A:Gateway 4016 freezes or switch off

are you using the Back USB ports of the computer for you wireless and Flash Drives and not the front? The front are weaker and should only be used for low powered USB devices like Keyboard and Mice.
You can also go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In the Device Manager, expand USB. Right click each USB Root Hub/Properties/Power Management and un-check Allow Computer to Turn Off Device to save Power.

Ok, got a Startech Starview 4 Port PS/2 KVM Switch, a nifty new mouse and keyboard (both USB with adaptors). I have 2 PCs both running XP pro and one monitor. Hooked everything up to the switch, everything worked fine...

Had an old IDE hard drive that I wanted data off, so I plugged it into PC 2 and booted.. I had the switch pointing at PC2 and some time during the 'found new hardware' bit, the curser froze and would not respond, even after re-boot. Keyboard is working so I got into device manager, no '!'s by the mouse. Unplugged the old hard drive and tried a system restore, no luck.

If I plug the mouse directly into PC 2 and boot it then it will work, but just will not recognize it any more through the switch. Seems to see it when windows boots and I can move it about 2mm then it freezes, or if I wait until it boots up all the way it freezes by itself..

PC 1 is working with the switch, checked the cables, so this must be a software setting.

hope someone can help, pulling my hair out over this.

Hi,

I bought a new graphics card (2 GB) sometime around September and had played a lot of games since then. There were no issues with crashes or any problems with the temperatures. Everything was fine, and I honestly wasn't expecting to have any major problems for a while, at least.

But, a few days ago, I woke up in the morning and turned on my PC. The light displayed as usual, but there was no signal on my monitor. I also noticed that my mouse and keyboard didn't seem to be "on" either. I hard booted the system and turned it on again and everything was normal, so I thought I could ignore it. The following day, I had the same issue, but this time resetting the system didn't work. I began plugging and unplugging this and that, and eventually I managed to get it started as normal. The next day, I noticed that there was a delay with the time it took for the light to switch on after pressing the button (when it was usually an immediate thing). This got my attention, but everything else was perfectly functional and so I ignored it once again. I noticed the same thing the next day, but I figured it was a minor issue not worth bothering with.

However, today, I once again had the issue where the PC would turn on but without the rest of the hardware. I rebooted and it ran as normal. I gamed for a few hours and then switched off my PC and went out for a while. When I got home, I switched on my PC and it started normally, but while playing a game (a fairly old one f... Read more

Hi I suffer from RSI and this is really impacting me. My Humanscale switch mouse stopped working right a few months ago. I have been around and around with the manufacturer, who tells me I've got to install the driver. I download the driver from their website. It downloads as a compressed self-extracting executable. After it extracts, it tries to kick off a driverinstall.exe file and my AdAware free anti-virus quarantines it as a trojan horse Trojan.Win32.Generic!BT.

I reported this to the manufacturer, they were like no it does not have a virus. Make an exception for the file. I wrote to AdAware, they also told me to make the exception.

So, even though I was skeptical, I went ahead and shut down my anti-virus to perform this install. Well, then my Comodo free firewall kicks in with its own quarantine, offers me some geekbuddy thing. It identifies the same file: driverinstall.exe as malware.

I wrote to the manufacturer again but now I do not know what to do. Should I ignore the advice of two separate applications about this driverinstall.exe file? You can check this out yourself http://www.humanscale.com/UserFiles/File/setup11.8.2.exe

Would appreciate your help, my hands are very important to me

Does anybody know of any new computer mice (mouses? meeses?) with a toggle switch instead of a scroll wheel?

I have a Sony mouse with that arrangement but the left click is getting a bit erratic. I suppose I could replace the switch but it would be easier to get a new mouse when this one finally quits.

The toggle makes it much easier to scroll through long documents than roll, roll, roll the wheel.

A:Mouse with toggle switch instead of scroll wheel?

My Logitech EX-100 wireless has the switch built into the wheel. You can either roll the wheel or press it down to activate the smooth scrolling. Even the cheap lighted USB wired mouse I was using for a week had that.

Now, i'm not sure if i should have posted this here, or in the hardware section - i'm hoping it's an XP/Software problem and not a hardware problem.

I have a Sony Vaio Notebook - K series - PCG-K23

It's about 7-8 months old, and almost everything works fine - everything except the DVD/CD Combo Drive, actually. I hadn't tried playing a DVD until a few weeks ago - so i didn't know about the problem.

I've been on the Sony Tech Support thing with a few people and they all sound like robots who just repeat the same thing over and over, and it doesn't help.

Basically what happens is when i put a DVD in the drive it reads the DVD for about 3-5 seconds, then completely freezes my computer. It just sits there forever until i restart. However, when i go to eject the DVD it also restarts the computer - i get no error messages. once i got a blue screen for a second before the reboot, but i haven't since - and it was too quick to read.

I reinstalled the drivers, and installed the latest firmware update. It didn't help.

I disabled the feature to automatically restart windows on an error - but it didn't help me get an error message.

The last suggestion was to do a restore - which i will try if i have to, but i'd prefer not to.

i have no problems with CD discs, only DVD's. The keyboard and mouse are totally unresponsive.

As i said, i've updated the software, but it hasn't helped... in the Device Manager the info for the drive says QSI CDRW/DVD SBW242C

Is it a movie DVD or Data?

Just in case its the autostart that is causing the problem:
press and hold shift while inserting the DVD (hold shift for quite a few seconds until DVD has been recognised within the system)
If at this stage, everything is OK, open up explorer and see if you can browse the DVD.
If still OK, try the eject.

As I say, this is more to try and track the problem down a little further.

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to get my Targus AMW17EUX mouse (wireless and without a ball controlled through a USB device, is optical the correct name?) to work with my new notebook. The specs are: Vista home, Intel T2130 1,86ghz dualcore, 1 gig of RAM and GF media accelerator 950. When I insert the USB driver device into the computer the PC sees the device and defines it as active. However I cannot switch from the touchpad to the optical mouse, I tried activating "turn off touchpad when an external device is available" but after the touchpad turns off, I cannot use the other mouse and have to press escape to get out of the control panel and restore settings. I tried looking for drivers without luck, do I really have to invest in a new mouse?

This is a smaller than normal, wired USB mouse. It measures approx 3.5" x 2" x 1.5" tall.

I've been looking but can not find a small mouse like this. Wireless, yes.
As with all discontinued stuff you can find these at outrageous prices. Not interested.
Looking for a basic <$20 mouse. 2-button and a scroll wheel. Blue laser would be great, but not a hard requirement.
I can't believe this can be this hard!

I've just started using a microsoft usb notebook 3000 mouse on my dell inspiron 2650 running win xp - fully updated. I have no response when I right click with the mouse. I can still use the touchpad to right click (I have to!) but not the mouse. I've updated the synaptics software and the intellipoint software. I've tried disabling the touchpad completely, just disabling the buttons but still I cannot get any respose when I right click using the moue. The left click, single and double, all work fine but not the right. I'm out of ideas and would appreciate any suggestions.

I was having trouble with my pavilion burning up hard drives so I purchased a new one rather than replacing it with the same one HP always done. I purchased the hard drive from Best Buy and they installed it into my laptop. I then loaded the OS and applications and drivers using the original recovery disks provided by HP. After that I updated windows XP until all the updates were completed.
My problem is that the computer doesn't recognize usb mouses. I tried using my Razer Diamondback and it wouldn't recognize the hardware. After using the driver install disc provided with the mouse it still wouldn't work. I also attempted to download the lastest drivers directly from the website and that wouldn't work. I've had two other people who are much more computer literate than myself look at the computer and they couldn't figure out the problem either. It appears that it is only a problem with mice. I tried another mouse and it didn't work either. Also it recognized other usb 2.0 equipment just not mice. My friend also said that with the current XP installation service pack 2 it should automatically recognize most usb devices even with the driver disks. Any help into what could be causing this problem would be appreciated.

A:Laptop not recognizing mouse plugged into usb port after hd switch

Hi friend....

The most likely to happen in your case is that while repairing your system they reseted CMOS/BIOS or they updated it (it usually resets itself to defaults after update). In BIOS there is an option for usb keyboard and mouse support. Since you have a laptop this option could be by default disabled. Hopefully, getting into BIOS and enabling usb mouse support will do the job! This option is more likely to be found in the "integrated peripherals" section of your BIOS setup. Then exit and save. Usually to access BIOS you have to press DEL during the POST/startup screen. You may have came across the message "Press DEL to enter setup". I cannot know many details since BIOSes have differences between computers especially laptops. Of course go ahead on asking questions if you want me to be more specific on something.

I've got the Belkin F1D104 SE 4-port KVM switch with a Compaq Presario SR2150NX winxp Vista & an IBM Thinkpad winxp & an Emachines T1842 winxp & a HP xw4300 Workstation winxp.x64 all connected with no problems but when I attempt to swap out either unit with another PC... Gateway GM5091e winxp - HP m7160n winxp - IBM E-26100 - Acer AM5100-U5201a ... neither one recognizes the keyboard or the mouse coming from the KVM Switch but all four recognize the keyboard & the mouse on stand-a-lone connect. I've swapped out the cables and even the KVM Switch and even changed ports on the KVM Switch to no avail. NOTE: The Gateway GM5091e was recognizing the keyboard & the mouse for over a year as recently as July 2013... then for reasons unknown it just refused to do so. I called Belkin and they have no answers. I know this is old & antiquated technology but does anybody have any work-a-rounds?

A:Keyboard & Mouse from Belkin F1D104 KVM Switch not recognized

I've used a Belkin kvma switch for years. But it's only for 2 machines. Basically a glorified Y cable. But it was working since the 90s until I took my systems down in February. Anyway, how do the machines connect to the switch? All the mice and keyboards are PS/2 style correct?

I have a rather annoying issue when I switch user, the mouse and keyboard stop working. I have to remove and reinsert each time to get them working again. Happens immediately after switch user, and then again once logged in as the new user. Some details on the hardware.

Mouse: Logitech M305
Keyboard :Logitech diNovo Edge with BT receiver
Motherboard: Asus Z87 Plus
OS: W7 Ultimate x64

These are USB 2 devices plugged into a USB3 port. Latest USB 3 driver is installed.

I have the PC setup to auto login after reboot and the mouse / keyboard work fine.

Any ideas or suggestions on why this is happening and how to fix it?

A:Mouse / Keyboard stop working after switch user

Can you plug them into USB2 ports? There's no real reason to plug them in to USB3 ports, and it's better to have mouse and keyboard in USB2 ports because they don't require drivers like USB3 does, which can cause issues like this.

Hi,

Please could someone point me to a way of making it so that when I press the Power Button on my Windows 10 desktop that the computer will power down without me having to click with the mouse to turn off various programs or clicking the "restart anyway" button that appears. I managed to do this with windows XP in the past. I think it might have been a registry alteration?

Thanks for any advice?

A:Switch off PC without mouse clicking when press the Power Button

You can press power button any time to power down the computer . But it is not recommended .for several reasons one is that something may be running in the back ground The proper way to shut down a computer is to click the windows button in the bottom left then click power then it gives you three options -Restart, Sleep, Shut down. That is the only way I have ever known to power down a computer

My notebook running Windows Vista Home Premium has started to freeze up and act strangely. I'm a novice to intermediate computer user so I've got some questions. I connect to the internet on this system via a wireless router in another room. Signal strength is excellent. In the past I've had a problem with the wireless connection locking up. The connection would stop responding and there would be an exclamation triangle icon over the network icon on the system tray (by the clock). I would have to reboot the computer at which time I would get a blue screen with the title : DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE, collecting information for crash dump.

Recently this behavior has stopped and is now replaced by the whole system freezing. Pressing control alt delete to try to bring up the task manager has no effect because the hard drive activity light is lit solidly and I'm supposing windows is too overloaded to accept a new task. I've also noticed that if I stay off line, then the system will act normally, but if I use a browser or check e-mail with my Thunderbird install, then the lockup process begins.

There's not a lot of RAM on this system. 1GB of Ram. At times during these lockups I have managed to bring the task manager up and it shows about 65-70% of Physical Memory being used, with 76 processes up and running.

The fist thing I suspected was the Hard Drive going out, so between lock ups I have downloaded and installed Ashampoos HDD Control 2, a hard d... Read more

I hate to post such a short response to such a long informative first post but, it very much sounds to me like your HDD is failing, but its hard to tell for sure. Running a diagnostic test on a HDD in windows is not the most accurate way to test it.

What I would do is test the ram with memtest. Let it run and pass 5 times or more before concluding it has passed the test.

And if possible, I would run DFT on the HDD.

Hello and thanks in advance for any assistance,

My PC freezes completely at times:screen freezes and audio signals become repeated (frozen stutter)
HDD LED stops blinking
all input ceases (only the power button on case is responsive)
Steam Client Bootstrapper stops working and kills my wifi connection as it crashes
I've noted it specifically when playing games, about 20 minutes into higher definition movies and rarely while loading the OS. I'm currently on the problematic system. Normal browsing, documents and less resource intensive activities do not seem to aggravate it.

Things I have done:check for overheating - no problems
visual inspection of hardware - no problems
checkdisk of my SSD (system drive) and HDD (data drive) - no problems
memtest86 ran for about 16hours - no problems
furmark stressed my GPU - no problems
IntelBurnTest stressed my CPU - no problems
prime95 - recreates error intermittently
download games through Steam - recreates error intermittently
remove HDD drive - error persists
format and reinstall OS, update drivers - error persists
reinstalled updated applications (VLC, Steam, Flash, etc) - error persists
reinstalled updated redistributables (directx, Visual C, etc) - error persists
update SSD firmware - error persists
remove external graphics card and use... Read more

Running XP - Start up is nominal and can check Outlook Express, Firefox etc for a few minutes but then they freeze (with constant hour glass). Control/Alt/delete shows programs running but is otherwise unresponsive in closing them. Dont believe it to be an overheat problem because bathing the computer in fast cold air from a room fan does not alter the symptoms.

WORD, notepad , Excel will not open after freeze although the mouse can still open a printer icon, for example, and open Advanced System Care (but the latter then also freezes}. Also, I can open lists of my saved files but it I then open them in WORD etc the panel freezes!
Have tried booting up in "last known good config." but no joy!

Help would be very Welcome!
