I've had the System Integrity Scan Wizard, PC-Antispyware, and Security System Protection Control Panel popups and my backround change to a blue colour. After reading some of the posts here and running Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware 2007, RegCure and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware it seems as if that problem was solved, but now everytime I put my pc on I get these messages:The first one says "rundll32.exe - Bad Image : The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\qpfrsnow.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette" and the second one says "RUNDLL -Error loading C:\WINDOWS\system32\qpfrsnow.dll%1 is not a valid Win32 application".The disk that I got when I bought my pc was Windows XP Home Edition SP1. I downloaded SP2 from the internet.I'm attaching all of the logs you need to assist me, because I don't know if and how badly my pc is still infected.I attached 4 log files: 1. DSS Main.txt 2. I've had the System Integrity Scan Wizard, PC-Antispyware, and Security System Protection Control Panel popups. They've been very stubborn but after reading some of the posts here and running Spybot, Adaware, SmitfraudFix, Panda Activescan, Housecall, Stinger Avert, Windows Defender, and SDFix, I am now getting only one popup, which shows up as a blank white rectangle in the center of the screen (and now I can't click "Close" to get it off the screen, since the "Close" option is missing). From the size & shape, I believe it's the Security System Protection Control Panel. Would you please review my HijackThis log? Also, in some of the posts I've noticed recommendations to update Java. Is that needed in my case? A:System Integrity Scan Wizard, Security System Protection Control Panel

The blank popup appeared to be repopulated with information over time...apparently the spyware refreshed itself. I also learned from Task Manager that all of my popups were from the System Integrity Scan Wizard. After some more searching, I found the name (in my case, yzqrqzkp.exe) and told Norton Firewall to block it from accessing the internet. I used HijackThis to fix it and then deleted it and a namesake (YZQRQZKP.EXE-1253B76A.pf) from Windows\Prefetch (not sure that was necessary but deleted it anyway). My only concern is that from what I read, there should have been another copy in \Local Settings\Application Data, which I didn't find. I updated Java per instructions in another post, also turned System Restore off and on. I think the PC is now clean, but would you review my latest HijackThis log to be sure? My PC is infected with 3 malware popups named Security System Proctection Control Panel, System Integrity Scan Wizard and Security System Warning (the last one telling me I have Abebot). I have tried to get rid of them with Kaspersky Antit-Virus, Adaware, spyware sweeper, and SpybotSD, but they are still running. I didn't run the online scan by Kaspersky because I have the most recent version installed and running on my PC. When I ran a rootkit scan with KAV, it took just over four hours and reported my PC was clean. So for whatever reason Kaspersky is not picking up these three forms of malware. Following all other directions on your preliminary instruction list I used Deckard's System Scanner to make two Hijack This files. They are pasted in below. Please take a look and tell me what I should do to get rid of this malware. My Windows 10 pc has been running like a charm, no problems. Today, I stepped away from my PC, and upon returning was horrified to see that a Windows update was taking place. Anyway, it did not update things correctly and my PC became completely unusable. I had not realized that I had needed to disable the Windows update service to prevent these from happening because I guess it's pretty clear that Microsoft's update process often just cripples a perfectly good computer.

Anyway, I've had to go all the way back to a Factory image restore even though I had made many restore points. I had regularly made restore points knowing that something ugly might happen.

So now my computer is running after hours of work but when I click on Device Manager or other Control Panel sub-functions, they don't work properly. It seems that entire functionalities of my PC are missing. If I click on this one thing that has to do with system restore it says, "CM_Get_Nex_Res_Des could not be located in the dynamic link libraryt c:\WIndows\system32\SETUPAPI.dll, and if I click on Device Manager, it's missing stuff also.

What should I do? Reinstall windows? If so, how? My pc had been working so well - presumably it has all of the files somewhere. All because of that Windows Update, my PC is junk after being perfect. It had taken me a while to get the PC to a perfect working order - a lot of setting up devices and stuff. Is there a way to reinstall Windows - I don't have any DVDs or CDs... Read more

You can get the windows dvd from here and do a clean install Windows 10 Media Creation Tool: Create Installation Media.

Its always wise to create a disk image of windows every month or so that way you can get back in 20 mins or less

Since I have a clean installation of Windows 7, it no longer shows me my Acer specs in Control Panel\System and Security\System, can I get it back some how? Something to do with my drivers not being signed? Or something?

A:Control Panel\System and Security\System BIOS Version\Model?

A clean install wipes out any manufacturer installed software that contains your computer information. (The same thing happened when I did a clean install on my Sony Vaio.) Unless you still have a hidden recovery partition on the hard drive (or recovery disks) that can return your Acer to original factory specs, I'm not aware of anything that can get that data to show up on the System dialog box. However, there are free 3rd party utilities like Speccy that can provide all the Acer data and then some, like real time monitoring of temperatures, hardware serial numbers, etc.

I have windows 7 home premuim 64 bit
I went to create restore point on my new dell and after about an 1/2 hour of waiting for SR to open up I got this:

You have no Restore Points. Use System Protection to create restore point.
When I attempt to turn on System Protection, it doesn't show any drives available when it opens -- it just says that it's searching for available drives and it keeps searching and doesn't stop. Eventually, I'll receive the following Error Message:

"There was an unexpected error in the property page: System Restore encounter an error. Please try to run System Restore again (0x81000203)." also all button are greyed out. I wanted take an image to show you but that's not working either. Is there hope?

Thank you.

Hey guys I have been trying to get this virus or whatever off my computer.

For some reason I can't access System in the control panel or right click on My Computer and goto properties. I'm using NOD32 Virus Protection and the virus definitions are all up to date and I did a scan and it did find viruses, but it deleted them all successfully. I then rebooted my system. I also ran Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware and deleted some spyware. I also ran CCLeaner. I am out of ideas...does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

A:Cannot access System in the Control Panel?

u can try to:

a. Disable System Restore first and then restart the scanning process. Any virus found, u can remove them from your machine. Reboot and go to online website like Trend Micro Housecall and rescan again. Once confirm no more viruses, enable System Restore and check if the icon is now available.

b. If the above does not help, I am afraid u may need to reformat your machine

Hope the above helps.

All of a sudden, I can't access the SYSTEM window under control panel or from anywhere else, and anything within system I cannot access either, when I click on SYSTEM in control panel, nothing happens. Everything else in control panel works as it should. For example, if I click on "Change name of computer" directly from control panel, it also doesn't work, because it would open the SYSTEM window which does not want to open.

This is weird indeed, please help if you can, I really don't want to reformat yet, I got everything working as I want. I tried system restore, accessed that through RUN command (rstrui) but when I try to go to one a week ago, it says I have errors on C and won't go, even tho there are definitely no errors (checked with many programs, including chkdsk /f and sector check at bootup).

The pop up says: SYSTEM ERROR. Your computer is infected with an unknown trojan. It is dangerous for your system (critical files can be lost)! Everytime I go to start up my computer I get these two error messages

"RegSvr32"

"RUNDLL"

I'm not sure what they've done, but I've lost access to my control panel and I'm thinking it has something to do with this. Someone refered me to this forum and told me to post hijackthis logs, so ya, if anyone can help, thank you.

Recently, maybe the past week or so, I got a virus on my computer and it screwed with everything pretty bad. I got AVG and it managed to remove a lot of the viruses on my computer and its doing better now but theres a few problems. Whenever I start my computer I get these error messages.

RegSvr32
LoadLibrary("C\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Date\qzwraval.dll") failed - The specified module could not be found.
RUNDLL
Error loading C:\WINDOWS\sustem32\uphmdwjw.dll.
The specified module could not be found.

I'm not sure what either of them are doing but theres a bigger problem at hand, the option to access my control panel from the start bar has vanished. If I try to access it from the run program I get this message.

"This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

I'm also the only user on this computer.

can anyone help?

Hi everyone! I searched to try to find this problem but didn't come up with anything. In my control panel, I have three system icons, two keyboard icons, two 'add hardware' icons, two mouse icons and two 'Internet options' icons. I'm pretty sure there aren't three systems on my computer! In fact, they all open to the same thing. Oh, and it won't let me throw any of the extras away.

I thought maybe it had something to do with the restore points so I deleted the old restore points (at least I THINK I did!).

Any ideas?

(Actually, the title should have been "Triple" system icons but it's been a long day..

Never mind! I used TweakUI to take the extras off of the control panel. Thanks!!!

Hi everyone, new here, but here goes.... I want to create a complete back up of my Win 8.1 laptop so Googles for help. The following came up...

"To back up your programs, system settings, and files
Open Backup and Restore by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Backup and Restore. In the left pane, click Create a system image, and then follow the steps in the wizard. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation."

The trouble is I DON'T HAVE the 'System & Maintenance' section in my Control Panel. Is this something I have to download and install as an extra?

Any and all help appreciated...

I have been dealing with this problem for sometime now. My control panel will not open up whatsoever, i have tried to use win+r and various shortcuts and not one will open, the drop down folder on the start menu causes a system hang where i need to restart or close explorer process, everything else will work but the start menu stays open and i cannot interact at all with it. Clicking on icons through windows explorer causes the either the same result or just does nothing, clicking through from personalization on desktop into the power settings will sometimes work but i have had no access to system properties, add remove, networking, etc. in some time. And as time has progressed so has the inability to access different things, it started with just the shortcuts for control panel on the top of my windows and then progressed on to system, than add/remove, followed by the control panel.

Within the control panel what is your first icon?

If it is add hardware then you would just simply need to click on switch to category view located in the upper left hand corner.

I was looking for device conflicts and discovered that the System tool had disappeared from Control Panel, stopping me from accessing Device Manager.

The WindowsKey / Pause or right clicking My Computer and clicking on Properties alternatives don't work either.

I've found information of a similar problem in Win 98 but, so far, nothing for Win 2000.

I have Kerio Personal Firewall plus ProcessGuard running as a background service. I've run Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, a2 and Ewido!

Talk about paranoid! Then I ran Panda on-line. They all say my system is clean.

I have Acronis True Image 7.0 installed.

Any bright ideas out there?

Acquired a virus whereby my wall paper turned white, lost the C: drive in "My Computer," lost the Control Panel, lost desktop shortcuts, lost Microsoft Word (the entire application,) and can't select any of the highlighted restore points in System Restore. Ran McAffee and AVG. McAfee did not find a virus. AVG found the virus but couldn't remove it. I deleted the infected files, but the problem persists. Any ideas??

Hi,

I have xp home sp3 and I have ran into a problem where my system will not let me restore. When I click on an available restore point it does its thing and then on reboot I get a message stating that it could not be restored to this point plz select a different time. However no matter what point you select you get the same message.

Also in my control panel add/remove software I have 3 programs adobe premiere pro cs3, adobe flash cs3 and adobe after effects cs3. the premiere and after effects show on my control panel but with no file size after the init they stopped installing i ended up installing earlier versions of these but can not delete the cs3 version from my control panel. the adobe flash was installed and working then i got message that it stopped and to uninstall and reinstall to fix it. however when it went to uninstall it it just sits there same as the other cs3's and will not uninstall. I have previously uninstall and re installed it. but my system isnt letting me now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When i try to open control panel the box opens but there are no icons and its a blank screen.

When i try to access Backup and Restore Centre, it thinks about it for a couple of seconds and nothing happens.

I have tried to reboot, pressed F8 and tried to repair computer. Again i cant access the system restore using that method. Nothing happens.

I did download Eusing free registry cleaner a few weeks ago. I have tried to restore previous registry but it does no good.

I see that these can cause problems

I have tried to use the instructions on the sticky topic about this but when i access systempropertiesprotection i get the following message

"There was an unexpected error in the property page. The volume shadow copy service used by system restore is not working. For more information view the event log (0x810000202).

Toshiba upper-end laptops come with a "system control panel" above the function keys on the keyboard. The buttons on the panel control, among other things, sound volume. But when you press the + or - to increase or decrease the volume, the buttons make annoying, loud beeps. Is there any way to turn the beeps off?

Would not be asking this here if the Toshiba manual addressed it, but (as they usually are), the manual is wanting.

I have disabled Autorun for years, recently I noticed that anytime I insert a Disc where in the autorun.inf calls for setup.exe to start
this message comes up:
_________________________________________________________
Windows XP Setup -------------------------------------------------------------------------(this is the Title Bar)
_________________________________________________________
Please go to the Control Panel to install and configure system components. ------- (this is the message)
_________________________________________________________
----------------------------------------- OK --------------------------------------------------(ok button to dismiss)
_________________________________________________________

This happens only if setup.exe is in the autorun.inf, if another executable name is in the autorun.inf nothing happens.

On investigating, seems that whenever setup.exe is called in the autorun.inf, Windows starts the
"C:\Windows\System32\setup.exe" instead of the one on the DISC.

I tried to delete the setup.exe is system32, but Windows automatically replaces with another copy from a cache.
I tried a copy from another computer without this problem, didn't work. I tried a repair install, didn't work. Tried a few registry edits, nothing seems to work.

I think I am missing some registry setting so that when the setup.exe starts refers to the one on the DISC, or a way to ignore it totally.

Please help!

Looking at that, i can see no reason for this to be happening.

If you try, can you open a cmd and set the machine to run a chkdsk /f after reboot?

I have two current problems with Windows (XP). They seem unrelated but, as well as I can remember, occurred simultaneously. They may?possibly?also be related to a problem I had with Firefox, a problem that caused me to return to IE?s browser.

First, I can no longer access Windows System Restore. When I touch the System Restore tab in the Help and Support Center, nothing happens. Nor does it if I touch the Use Tools tab. For the record, underneath where it says ?Did You Know??, the date given is February 18, 2006, rather than today?s date.

Second, when I go into Control Panel, Display, Desktop (to change my desktop wallpaper), my system often hangs up, leaving Control Panel, Display permanently visible but not allowing me to change anything. The only way I can get back to normal is reboot. When Control Panel, Display hangs up, it is almost always accompanied by a message that says: ?Run a DLL as an app has encountered a problem and needs to close.? Before Windows closes when I reboot, I also get a message stating: ?rundll32.exe (ending program).? At times, I also get one of the following messages: ?DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close.? On at least an occasion or two, I have also gotten a message describing ?DDE Server Windows? or ?Font Capture? as ?ending programs.?

Thank you.

Hello, all.

Just a quick question, but is there any way to remove the line of text saying "Pen and Touch: No Pen or Touch Input is available for this Display" from the System page in Control Panel?

All 3 of my machines have this text, and none of them use any touch devices, so I'd like to remove the message, if possible.

I once read about a registry value that can be edited to change Support info, and that made me wonder if this line of text can be hidden.

Thanks,
Tom.

I don't believe so... The System page is just there to show information for your system. There is no registry setting or 'hack' for the standard System display page.

Recently (about an hour ago) I loaded up the system monitor to find that I only had four options. So I loaded up the control panel and I only had three.
Normal system monitor displays Case, CPU, Motherboard, Memory and HD and Control Panel shows all but Case.
I reinstalled to no avail. Checked through google and found the most useless listings ever. Sent in a ticket to Nvidia and havent had a reply (their forums lets me register and activate my account then when I login it says there is no user credentials, so I came back here)

So what I have is a Dell 630i
Motherboard: nForce 650i
Program: NVidia System Monitor & Control Panel - Version 6.00.02
OS: 32bit Vista SP1

As far as I know nothing I have installed should of altered it. It worked perfectly fine this morning and I have tried removing what I have installed since then and have had no luck.

I have a 256Gb SSD partitioned into 121GB (Volume label left at default "Local Disk") (C:) and 116 GB Data (D:) (sizes select by default in initial access to Disk Management). I also have an internal SATA 6Gb 500Gb Backup (E:).

Apparently this label of my E: drive is both "meaningless" and "meaningful" for Win7:

When I wanted to make my first SystemImage, Win7 suggested that my destination choice was not a good idea. It makes perfect sense for me, but I can see that Win7 might prefer an external USB hdd.

But I went ahead and made the System Image on Backup (E:) and it appears to be in good order: I allowed Win7 to name it with its default folder "WindowsImageBackup" with the subfolder named from my system name, with add'l subfolders:

Backup 2012-01-03 (+ some 6 digit id #, I presume)
Catalog
SPPMetadataCache

However, this System Image is not recognized in Control Panel\...\Backup and Restore and the "Select another backup to restore files from" dialog does not recognize the E: drive nor allow me any means to select it.

However, if I select "Setup backup" Win7 immediately selects Backup (E:), adding the comment [Recommended].

I can see the statement near the top of the dialog about recommending a backup on an external drive, but this is not what I consider an intelligent backup approach. I prefer to make both internal backups on my additional internal hdd and external usb hdd copies of backups. ... Read more

A:System Image is not recognized in Control Panel\...\Backup and Restore

in backup and restore there is a option to create a rescue disc. you will need this disc to access the system image should the system crash. You can backup an image to your external hdd and access it with the bootable rescue disc.

Dear All,
I have recently suffered a multiple trojan attack. This was cleared by AVG and superantispyware, although I am not 100% sure all infections have been removed.
On restart, I have lost all desktop settings e.g. screen saver and background etc and some shortcuts. Screen background pemanently deep blue. I have also lost (when clicking the start button) "All programs" "run" "search" "help and support" "control panel" "my computer".....indeed everything apart from strangely, "printers and faxes" from where I can up-folder to control panel.
I have checked the priviliges setting in normal mode and they are OK.
In Safe mode all of the above are available. I have checked the priviliges setting there and all is OK. I have made desktop setting changes in safe mode but no change when rebooting to normal.

I have been told to look for HKEY_CURRENT_USER - Software, Microsoft, Windows, CurrentVersion, Policies, System. and amend the NoDispCPL and edit the DWORD value to 0 (zero) but I do not have the System folder.

I have considered repairing Windows XP Home using my original disk, but when I try this microsoft tells me that my windows version is now newer and I will lose all files and settings etc , which I do not want to do and I know of no other way.

I cannot give you a Hijacjk this file as this is one of the shortcuts that have dissappeared and I cannot access "All Programs" in norma... Read more

Three problems that I think are related.

(I'm running Windows XP, factory installed. I installed SP2, successfully, a few months ago.)

1. I can't get to System Restore. I choose System Restore from the System Tools menu and nothing happens. The cursor turns to an hour glass for a second, then changes back, and then it's as if I hadn't chosen any menu option--nothing at all happens.

2. If I type into the Run window msconfig, I get the following: "Windows cannot find msconfig. Make sure you typed the name correctly. . . . etc. . .."

3. Problem in the Control Panel. Some of the ten categories in the Control Panel I can click on and get to immeditately. But others, including Network and Internet Connections, when I click on it, I get the message "An error occurred while Windows was working with the Control Panel file c:\windows\system32\netsetup.cpl." I click OK, then the same box comes up again; after maybe ten times, finally the error box stops coming up and I do in fact get the Network and Internet Connections window.

help!

Hi

I'm suddenly finding that I'm unable to open Display and others (e.g. System) in Control Panel on my laptop running Win7 professional 64 bit..
If I try a system restore I get an 0x80042302 error message ref. the Volume Shadow copy service.
If I then try to run Services.msc as administrator to check if the Volume Shadow Copy Service is running I get a box saying:
'MMC cannot open the file.............
This may be because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC. This may also be because you do not have sufficient access rights to view the file.'

Display worked OK a couple of days before this, when I changed the resolution to connect to an external monitor.

Any advice please?

Hi all,
I am having major problem with my new Vista based laptop.

Whilst setting it up I seem to have been infected with spyware/adware/malware and whislt it is now clean thanks to a combination of Norton, Registry Mechanic and Spyware Doctor when I try to use control panel or windows explorer it opens momentarily and then closes automatically without being able to see any icons etc

I have tried system restore but this won't work on any restore point as it comes across and unexpected error.

I am at a loss what to do, the Compaq laptop came with Vista preloaded so I cant reload, I am worried as because my laptop was working ok after transferring all my files from my old laptop I havent had chance to make a backup and the files on my old laptop have been deleted to re build that for my son.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Just as I finished getting my system installed, my Control Panel started hanging.
When I try to open it, I can do nothing on the sytem, I can not even get to the Task Manager to end task. I have to Hard Reboot. Control Panel does open in Safe Mode.

I can not believe Vista is this unstable. I have nothing but Microsoft Products installed. Of course, incompatibilities and embarassing (for MS) bugs abound...it is very disheartening. I think I have had to hard reboot this system more in the past 2 weeks then in the last 10 years on w2k and xp.

The system is 2 weeks old. There are no prior versions to restore from.

I have tried refreshing licenses, creating a new user, rebuilding icon cache, I have no idea what else to try.

I would very much like to not have to waste another week rebuilding my brand new Laptop (Dell XPS).

I tried reinstalling from OS. That did not work. Said 'Checking Configuration' all night.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I'm sure this problem is not new, and most of the fixes i have seen appear to be personalized and thus i cannot simply apply a previous solution to my problem in cookie-cutter fashion.

I have recently installed kaspersky antivirus and nearly immediately after the install this problem came up. I'm not sure if the rundll32.exe is corrupted, missing or whatever else it may be in this situation but some help would be greatly appreciated... I cannot access anything in my control panel, and most programs ask me what to use to open them. When i try to access anything in control panel, it says:

"C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe

Application not found."

sfc /scannow says: Windows resource protection corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.

details are included in the CBS.log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

but when i try to view it im denied access

what do i do now to show you guys the CBS.log thing if needed? Or how do i go about fixing this problem?

A:Windows Vista System 32/rundll32.exe cannot be found - cannot open control panel etc.

re-install windows or run sfc from command console after booting from vista dvd under repair options.

best bet after viral infections is to wipe your drive and re-install.

Hi everyone,

I've just installed the latest Realtek driver and the installation goes fine but Realtek HD Audio Manager won't appear in the Control Panel or the System Tray (however, when I go to customize the notification icons, Realtek HD Audio Manager appears as "Show icon and notifications").

I've tried reinstalling time and time again. Also, Device Manager shows 4 instances of "High Definition Audio Device" as well as Realtek High Definition Audio. I've tried uninstalling these and installing Realtek but Windows automatically installs them upon restart.

Anyone got any ideas?

Hello!! I'm not really new to this vista experience and all..i have no serious problems encountered before aside from a few lags in the system when it starts or opens an application.. but just recently, well yesterday, I tried opening my system properties to run my OS in very minimal visual effects since it was running a little slow again....I was not able to open the thing after right clicking the properties window in Computer...also i have tried going to control panel... but the only thing i can see after i click on the control panel button, is a window with an empty space named windows explorer and it suddenly closed after like a second or so....also i tried also opening my "personalize" on the desktop, and it has the same response as with my control panel....

what probably is the problem with my computer?? i read that it could be a malware, but my anti-virus could not detect anything at all...

Hi Guys.

I hope you may be able to help me out. I've seen similar recent threads opened detailing similar problems you've looked into. These were at the following forums of yours

http://forums.techguy.org/malware-removal-hijackthis-logs/619478-control-panel-has-disappeared.html

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/619274-control-panel-icon-has-disappeared.html

I am faced with the same problem:

My control panel icon has vanished from my start menu, the link to it in My Computer has gone too and when I try to access it via the Run function using control.exe I am greeted with the message of "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer, please contact your administrator"

I'm sure this is a malware problem I've picked up off the web but I've got no idea of how to fix the problem. Your help would be very gratefully received.

Regards Jez

i dont remember doing that..
aaand im the only one who uses this computer so im pretty sure no one else did it
soooo yea im stumped
any help would be much appreciated
(p.s. my recycling bin is fine)

A:Your System Administrator Has Disabled The Launching Of The Display Settings Control Panel

If you added/performed any Tweaking software then maybe that did it. If you know which program that would be, track it down and try to set it back to normal.
Otherwise you might want to do a system restore to an older restore point from before you had this problem. Or of course, if you use Acronis, go back using an
archive.

I present to you today a most peculiar computer with a MYRIAD of problems, it seems.

The computer in question has been in use for about two months, I'd say. It's about six years old, but we just recently had a need to use it, so I had a tech person clean it off, fix any problems, and it was sent back to me in working condition. I loaded up my programs without many problems, except one...

The scanner portion of my printer/copier/scanner combo device never would operate. The printer is fine, but the computer ALWAYS gave me the "Found new hardware..." bit, regardless of what drivers I installed. I get the sneaking suspicion that this is related to my current woes.
Otherwise, the computer operated just fine. UNTIL, that is, last week. A friend tried to install a game to the computer, and finally gave up, having never gotten it operation. Files installed just fine, but my DirectX wasn't up to date. We tried to update it, but to no avail. Always got the same error messages that DirectX needed to be updated in order to start the game.

A few days after, I'm trying to connect a "MagicJack" to the computer for my grandmother. The MagicJack doesn't work. I spend a few hours with the abomination that is MagicJack Technical Support only to have them tell me that I need to restart/unplug-replug/install some updates. Surprise, surprise, the updates won't install. The MagicJack never works.

And finally yesterday... I was attempting to ins... Read more

Hi guys. this is my first post. I hope i'm posting this in the right place. I read all the notes before posting and i think i'm in the right place.

My wife's computer is in trouble. It's a dell laptop running windows xp.

I'll do my best to explain the problem.

When i start the computer i get two black screens on the desktop that say:

windows\system32\pump.exe and windows\system32\nvtdm

Then the desktop won't even load right. I can't even see the start buttom.

I see my icons but the screen is white and it says " Active Desktop Recovery" and it won't get out of there.

If i try to open explorer, it won't do it.

If i try to open a folder i get a message that looks like :

This page contains an unspecified potential security risk. Would you like
to continue?"

i press continue and i can browse the folders but can't copy paste the info. That prevents me from saving my files.

I called dell and i got all the restore cds so i could restore the computer and forget about this. But not being able to save the files is what's holding me.

Now, Through that explorer window i try to access the control panel. But when i try to open something ( for example : Add or Remove programs )

I get a small window saying:

Control Panel
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe

The parameter is incorrect.

Have you tried using safemode to get what you need off of the hard drive? I would suggest safemode with networking and then get MBAM. Try running it in safemode, clear out what it finds and then run SUPERAntiSpyware. Keep in mind that SUPERAntiSpyware is limited in function in safemode but run these scans and get rid of what they find. After that reboot and go in to the regular Windows mode. Let us know what happens.

i opened system protection today to find it hasnt been making restore points and that there was an error when i tried to set it up.

My system came with Vista which I then set up to dual boot with 7, and then following that, I deleted Vista altogether. In system restore, I can see
System

Recovery
Windows 7 C: (missing)
Windows 7 C: (missing)

I think at least one of system /recovery my belong to Vista, as they dont show up in windows explorer

anybody have any idea what is going on / how to fix this

I originally had Microsoft Security Essentials for 6 months now.  I had it programed to scan everyday.  All of a sudden everything is removed from icon task bar (I'm sure if that is what it is called)  and I can no longer access those programs even from the start menu which included MSE.  My system restore will not respond.  I keep getting this pop up:  loadmoney.txt - notepad.  I have tried safe mode with networking and I still cannot download anything except Dr. Web's Cure it.  What are my options?  I am running Windows XP  with service pack 3.

I have recently found that Spyhunter4 was able to download and detected 327 problems, which included some antivirus blocking rules.  If I purchase their product will they be able to fix the issues I am having.  I don't want to purchase a product that I am not sure whether that will fix the problem.

Well, spyhunter gives me the option to pay with paypal, but when I select paypal there is an error and I don't think that it would be safe to give my creditcard in formation right now.

Also I have problems deleting Files or Folders.  It says Acess denied, make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently protected.

Hi

When I right click My Computer on Vista Start menu the page says "The page failed to load"

I enclose a screenshot of the error.

I was also get "the application has failed to start because WINBRAND.dll was not found" when running

SystemPropertiesAdvanced

From RUN

This has now been fixed by downloading WINBRAND.dll and copying it to c:\windows\system32

But "The page failed to load" still happens when right clicking My Computer and choosing properties.

I did a SFC / Scannow and something weird happened. The Command Window had an error (apologies - forgot to note which but will rerun in a moment) however the CBS Log File showed no errors and indicated SFC ran successfully.

I will post the results of SFC in a few moments

Thanks for your help.

A:Explorer crash on running "control panel\system" no minidump created

Hello Nightmayor and welcome to Sevenforums.

Explorer Crashing

Here are some tips and tricks you could try troubleshooting the kind of problems you're experiencing.
Having crashes upon the .explorer usually reveals problems in the Windows Context Menu. I'd suggest you to download a software called ShellExView. The idea of ShellExView is to figure out, what shell extension is causing your explorer to crash.Use the software with this procedure- Disable one extension that doesn't belong to Microsoft. In many cases there are running 3rd party shell extension along Windows, and may cause the crash. If the crash persist, undo the selection, and proceed to the next non-Microsoft extension. Keep doing so, until you've found the culprit.

Download Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes will investigate malware and worm targets, and try to remove them. It's very handy in that manner.Run a full scan of it twice or more. In many cases it won't detect malware in the first shot.

To ensure Windows isn't broken, we'll recommend the sfc /scannow command. Here's how- Press Start | search 'cmd' | Right-click it
| open as Admin | type SFC /SCANNOW

SFC /scannow

If the steps didn't work, Create a new User Account on your system. The current user account you're using, may be broken and corrupted.

Best Regards,
Frederik.

A few weeks ago a techie friend tidied up my Vista laptop. Coincidentally a few days later, when I switched on my desktop (windows7) all my documents had disappeared. I reinstalled from a backup.
I do think this must be a coincidence.
However I now find that after working on the desktop for a while, clicking Start and then Control Panel or Computer result in a explorer.exe "System Failled Call" window appearing.
Restarting clears this but it happens again.
I have scanned with AVG & windows defender and also used the microsoft system scan tool. Nothing untoward showed up.
Attempted a system restore but no luck as it wouldn't work.
I ran Task manager, killed explorer.exe, went back into task manager, new task and typed "explorer.exe". This has worked for the moment.
Finally each time I close down I get the message programs are still running tho' none are listed. My only option is to force closedown. I feel these problems are all related.

Incidentally, when another user logged in their closedown was clean.
Very confused. Any help would be appreciated.

A:Clicking Start, Control panel/computer results in "System Call Failed"

I first would create a new Restore Point. Then I would go to MSCONFIG via WinKey--R and either disable some startup items or select Diagnostic Startup. If these stop the problem then focus on what is enabled in a full boot - including non-MS services on the Services tab of MSCONFIG.

I am setting up a new wireless router and new laptop.

The laptop sees the WLAN (name) in Control Panel -> Networking -> Sharing and Network, but this WLAN (name) does not show up in the laptop's 'WLAN selector list' when I click on the network icon that's in the system tray.

I hope my description, above, makes sense. If so, does this problem description suggest an area of configuration that I have done incorrectly?

Thanks for any hints.

A:WLAN in Control Panel but not in system tray WLAN list

The new router needs to be setup with the SSID not hidden. Also the router needs to be set for the same type of wireless that the devices use.

It is also helpful when you post these kind of questions, to include system info in your profile and also manufacture and model of the router.

Hello everyone, I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop running Windows Vista. I recently bought a USB audio sound card (since my computer's headphone jack was damaged).

The volume control on my computer has always worked fine, but when I plug in the sound card I'm no longer able to control the volume via the sound icon on the taskbar. The sound card's volume always comes in full blast, and I can only lower it through the controls in the program it's currently running (i.e. the volume control in a YouTube video). Therefore, when I try to control it directly through my computer it doesn't work.

Is this a common problem? Is there any way I can get this fixed or configured, or is there a problem with the sound card?

A:USB Sound Card - system volume control not working

As this is a software issue my response has to be quite limited. Basically, you may need to check a box specifying your default audio device in your sound settings. Hope this helps, if not drop your question into the software section.

Hello,

I have recently just successfully cloned my Old primary 1TB Western Digital HDD onto my new 1TB Samsung EVO SSD to increase hard drive performance to give it a quick boot up and to enable Windows and my programs to load a lot quicker and perform better with multi tasking. My laptop is one of the bigger 17inch Acer models which comes with two hard drive bays. So once I had wiped my older WD HDD I then inserted a new 2 TB Seagate hard drive into the second bay to be able to store it for personal and media files, and any other imprtant data, to keep it the SSD as the primary hard drive and just for OS and programs only. My system runs the Windows 8.1 OS and is 64 bit.

However, I wanted to create a restore point and upon doing so, I found that System protection was turned off for all my both my hard drives.

I thought I had managed to somehow enable system protection on my C:/ Dive (including the partioned / drive on the same hard drive) on my SSD, and yet though it shows them enabled, it shows the word missing next to them, and I am assuming this is telling me the previous restores are missing; whether as a result of cloning I don't know. The other weird thing is further up the properties page it also shows the C\ and D:\ Drive but turned off.

So I thought I would try increasing the disk space usage, since it was showing it at 0, and it would allow me to do so and returned the message: 'There was an unexpected error in the property page: The system cannot fin... Read more

Hi, I defragged my registry (castigate me later, please), and well, my system crashed. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on a Lenovo laptop, and on startup, I get a blue screen claiming that the OS couldn't boot, and the option to try a system repair. After analysis, it says that it can't repair the system automatically, and offers more advanced options. I can try a system restore, but after selecting a restore point (clearly the one created before defragging the registry), system restore says that I must enable system protection on the drive. I don't remember disabling it, and I don't know how to enable it without access to the desktop.
From those same advanced recovery options, I can use a system image recovery (don't have an image to recover from), the windows memory diagnostic (it claims there's no memory error), or the command prompt. I know very little about using the command prompt, but I can open the task manager at least, though not explorer.exe or msconfig.exe (the prompt claims they're invalid commands).
I've tried booting in safe mode, with the last known good configuration, with boot logging, and everything else from that menu, as well as a Windows 7 recovery disc (though I believe this disc just provides the same options as those installed on the laptop.
If possible, I'd like to know how to enable system protection from the command prompt window so that I can continue with the system restore. I'm quite certain that the error lies in the defragmentation... Read more

Hi Everyone

I went on my laptop this morning and it said I needed to run a system restore. Unfortunately when I try to it says I need to enable system protection on my C drive. I've been searching the web for a solution for the past couple of hours and it seems like quite a common problem. However I've tried all of the suggested solutions and nothing seems to work. I'm not the most computer literate so some of the suggested didn't make the most sense. If anyone has any suggestions to help the matter it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

I need help on how to remove the (system reserved) folder under Available Drives in protection settings. On all my other computers it is not shown. Not sure why it is there as it does not show anywhere else on computer as a drive. I guess it just bugs the hell out of me not knowing why it's there. Any help would be appreciated.

A:In System Protection under Available Drives (System Reserved)

Look in Disk Management and see if the Reserve has a partition letter.
