2000 Backwards Compatibility

Q: 2000 Backwards Compatibility

Yeah, I'm running Office 2000 (Pro) .

I'm currently running Windows XP but am planning to upgrade (with a new computer) to Windows 7 this year. My big problem is whether or not my Office will work. I have seen for myself that it works in Vista, but Microsoft's database says that Office 2000 doesn't work in 7.

Two questions:

a) Will it work in XP Compatibility mode?
b) If not, will it work with Windows XP Mode?

A: 2000 Backwards Compatibility

Not sure who is having a problem with MS Office 2000 in Win 7, albeit I have been using it with my laptop which is running on Win 7 32 bit.

A) yes
B) yes

After reading your post I loaded up Office 2000 into XP mode and it worked just fine. Also, loaded up in VMware's Workstation running XP and it worked without any problems.

Hope this helps, and BTW "Welcome to the Seven Forums."

Now if you can still download MS Office 2010 beta I would recommend that you do, and test it out, it is an excellent upgrade to 2007, 2003, and 2000. There is a compatibility mode so you can convert either forward or backwards.

I recently had issues with my PSU and rather than play guesswork on whether its still functional, I rather just replace it.

My motherboard is a m3n78-pro. Its a bit dated but I'd like for this pc to last another 6 months before I build an entirely new rig. If I read the manual correctly, it requires ATX 12V V2.0.

The PSU I'd like to change to (since it just has to last another 6 months) this 900 w PSU. Would the m3n78-pro be compatible with this PSU? One concern I had was that the m3n78-pro requires a 4 pin ATX +12v connector. If I read the PSU's specifications correctly it has one 12V 8-pin (4 + 4) CPU power connector. Is that 8-pin two separate power connector, ie do I just use 1 of the connectors to fit into the 4 pin ATX +12v connector?

Please excuse my noobishness but what exactly does the v2.92 Motherboard specification entail? I tried to google it, but got less useful information and product results from newegg.

Also I read the wiki on the ATX 12V V2.X standard, but it didn't answer my question - is ATX12V v2.3 backwards compatible with the ATX12V v2.0 standard?
Thank you very much for any help you can give.

Hi, this is my first post.

I've looked around the net, but sites seem to be giving me different messages about this, so I thought hey why not try here.

Anyway, the machine in question is a Compaq Deskpro EN, with a PIII 1GHz cpu, 256MB ram, and an AGP slot with an nVidia Riva TNT Pro 16MB video card in it. Oh, and it's dualbooting Windows XP Pro and Windows 98SE (the latter for some really old games and a few other older programs).

I thought I'd see what adding $20 of new life might do for it, by way of adding say, a GeForce2 MX400 64MB video card. Some games demand pretty much exactly that kind of card as a minimum, i.e. GeForce2 64MB or better.

So here's the question. The MX400 is 'AGP 4x'. I *think* the slot on the motherboard is 'AGP 1x'. Is that an incompatibility situation?

If it's not workable, what other options might I have, and which one would be best?

I just upgraded my old 5500 to a 6600 and want to put the 5500 into another machine. The 5500 is an AGP 8X (I'm not sure if it's an 8x/4x) but I was told by someone here that no matter what it was, the AGP 8X would work in a 4x slot with a slight performance decrease. Well, here's the issue, my older machine has a 2x/4x slot and upon sticking in the card (which fit fine by the way, NO SHOVING REQUIRED! ) I commenced with booting. Upon booting, everything looked fine and the card was being picked up, but as soon as it got to the log-in screen, everything just started waving around on the screen like there was water inside... So, should/will an AGP 8x (maybe 4x/8x) card work in a 2x/4x slot?

Please help me!!!

I've found Office 2013 too unstable in Excel and Outlook and intend to revert back to Office 2010 with which I had no issues.

However my question concerns the .pst files, will they transfer back OK? In O'2013 I have noted that they are in a different location, so is it just a case of doing the usual export/import operation?

A:Outlook backwards compatibility

yup, there won't be any issues in downgrading your office version. Just need to point Outlook 2010 the location to your pst files. I'm presuming your term pst files = archive files.

Once you have uninstalled office 2013, open up Control Panel > Mail > Data files.

If you don't see your pst files there, you can click on "Add" to tell Outlook where your pst files are.

First, an apology: this is my first post and it's not obvious whether this ought to be in Security, Win7 or Vista message boards. here is my issue-

I'm slightly at a loss here and hoping someone can lend me a hand. I have a bitlocked external HD that I locked with bitlocker in Win7. It's my only external HD and serves as my backup. I have no problems using it on my Win7 machine however, I'd like to use it to copy some data from my friends Vista machine.

He has a version of Vista that has bitlocker installed. Going to bitlocker manager, it sees the drive and it is marked as locked, clicking unlock gets the following message: "Error recovering disk D: There is no recovery password on this volume. The volume cannot be unlocked."

Using bitlocker-to-go-reader I get the following message: "Bitlocker To Go Reader could not find any devices to unlock. Please insert a bitlocker enabled drive"

Taking it back to my machine, everything works fine. Am I missing the obvious or attempting the impossible? It seems like this should be able to work.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

EDIT 1: It is locked with a password, (not a usb key/smart card/TPM) I have a copy of the recovery file on a usb, with me.
EDIT 2: using command prompt returns same as first error from Bitlocker manager.
EDIT 3: Forget about bitlocker-to-go. It is made for usb flash FAT32 file systems and not the NTFS system of my external HD.

A:Bitlocker backwards compatibility

Your problem is caused by the fact that Bitlocker-To-Go (which isn't just for FAT32 usb flash drives, it's also for FAT32 external hard drives) is the only way to access a Windows 7 bitlocked drive on Windows Vista on a different PC. But it doesn't work because NTFS is not supported by Bitlocker-To-Go (you got that bit right).

There is no known workaround for this. It requires a bit of forward planning on your part. If you think you might need to access your bitlocked data on a Windows Vista or Windows XP machine, make sure the partition is a FAT32 one.

Hi guys,

I bought a 'Skype mouse' from on Saturday, it arrived today and to my dismay said on the box ''for 2000/xp'' (it says this nowhere on the advert).

Its a usb powered device and upon plugging in does work at a basic level (works as a mouse, speaker and microphone).

How could I make this fully compatable, I have tried making the installation disk 'think' its on XP SP2?

Is it just my perception but does Vista lack alot of the backwards compatibility that XP and its predecessors had?

Usually in the relm of drivers you have a large base that just gets larger with the new release. It almost looks as though some of the XP okay devices just no longer work. Where when XP was released alot of the 98/NT/2000 stuff was all incorporated into it.

In the realm of games you had all the compatiblity modes that really helped older games. Now with vista some of the games not more than a couple years old that work fine in XP no longer function in Vista even under these compatibiilty modes.

In the realm of Apllications there are quite a few XP built applications that just no longer function and have to be revamped to work as well.

I know Vista has alot of improvements but so has every other OS prior but they still managed to hold onto the fact that you could use alot of older software as well.

What are your thoughts on Vista and its apparent disregard for existing platforms and media that is currently released?

I keep wanting to go to Vista on my home machine (i have it set to dual boot) but I keep finding a ton of reasons I have to boot back into the Windows XP disk. This really never happened to me on prior releases at all and I am a little shocked at this transition.

A:Is it just me? Vista and backwards compatibility.

Yes, there are a lot of hardware and software that will not work with Vista. The hardware issue is that the OEM's have elected NOT to support the not so old hardware, that is NOT a Microsoft problem. The same goes for some of the software, but with the security changes and the way programs can not make changes to the protected system as they could before, you are going to need a new version of that game and/or program.

Games are hit real hard as they were always messing with the system, but most useful programs will run under the compatibility mode.

I gonna get a new motherboard and chip probably looking at Althlon Xp 3000+ ish and Asus Socket A mobo with 400 FSB/external clock frequency on both.

Anyway cant really aford to get new graphics card straight away so gonna keep my Geforce 2 MX 400 which runs at either 2X or 4X AGP.

Will my new Mobo AGP 3.0 X8 support it at probably at 133mhz and 2X or 4X instead of the top limit of 200mhz and 8X?

Also will it run my old ram which is 266mhz DDR SDRAM at this setting rather than obviously 400mhz?

really not sure. cheers.

A:Backwards Compatibility of RAM and Geforce 2 MX Card

I m pretty sure everthing will run fine. I m pretty sure your motherboard will support a your Geforce 2 MX 400 AGP 4x card since runs on the same voltage as a typical AGP 8x would.

Your RAM will be working fine as well but probably the one which will slow you down a bit in terms of performace.

Other than that there's nothing much to be concern of.

XP mode can be run on any hardware that supports it. (most 64 bit does)

No it is not 100% compatible (most is) but running XP software (IMHO) puts security ho;es in win 7, whihch not perfect is more secure than xp

Does anyone know of a way to force Word 2010 to save all files as .doc files not .docx for any user that ever logs in to a pc?

I know it's simple to save this setting for a given user but I need to do it for everyone that ever sits at a given pc....

A:Force Word 2010 backwards compatibility to 2003 for all users

I would create a file doc.reg and save it in C:\whatEverLocation\

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
Than I would start a Task Schedule (taskschd.msc) and "Create Task"
(NOT Basic task!!!).

Check "Run with highest privileges" on General tab.
Triggers tab: At log on - Any user.
Actions tab: Start a program.
. Program/script: %windir%\System32\regedt32.exe
. Add arguments (optional): /s "C:\whatEverLocation\doc.reg"

Reg file gives us desired setting in a file form that can be easily imported for any current user.
12.0 is for Office 2007
14.0 is for Office 2010
15.0 is for Office 2013

Task schedule allows us to create a task that will run for any user of the current Windows system with administrative privileges (when corresponding options are selected).
regedt32 will import desired setting for the current user silently (/s).

User can still change this option manually later on, but the next time this user log in, the same setting from the file will be imported and user's custom setting will be overridden.

Last upgrade was to ACT 2000, and have not felt any need to upgrade (with the ridiculous price tag!). I operate a microbusiness, and the old version almost does everything I need it to do.

Here is one "wish for". I use Thunderbird as my e-mail client, and I have to go through cut & paste or rewrite e-mails to recipients. ACT will launch the two versions of Outlook and a "cc Mail" or "internet mail" option.

The Quadro has DVI out and two (2) Displayport out. I tried the DVI, no luck. The tried the Displayport, still no luck. Monitor is asleep, does not respond.

Alrighty! Here goes!

I've been searching online for five hours looking for fixes for this. I recently replaced the Windows 8 on this Notebook with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Edition because, simply put, I bloody hate Windows 8.

This has become problematic for me because it appears that there are no compatible drivers that pair Windows 7 and this device's hardware.

I posted in Yahoo Answers about an hour and ten minutes ago and I'm incredibly frustrated with the results (go figure). A link to that question, in case I forget any information I mentioned there: Downgrading to Windows 7 with HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook? - Yahoo! Answers

The product information page for the HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook is located here: HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook PC Product Specifications HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook PC | HP? Support

I have several drivers that are "Out of date." The main one that I'm worried about is the Graphics/Display driver. On the HP website, the device is listed as: Intel HD graphics 3000 with up to 1696MB total graphics memory.

I've tried installing the Windows 8 drivers (which do nothing) and I have also tried updating my drivers through Windows Update. I've also visited HP's driver site, Intel's, and even NVidia, I believe, all to no avail.

I'm hoping that an informed someone can tell me whether or not there are drivers for my graphics chip, and if there are, where I can find them and how I can install them in working order.

I'm one of the elderly members of this community who hates to change platforms without good reason.

Office 2000 is familiar and does most of what I want to do. I'm finding that running it in compatibility mode under Windows 7 Professional x64 is problematic. Most of my problems appear to come from Word documents containing images, often copied and pasted from the web directly. Word stops responding. It can only be restored by a hard reboot which is a PITA. It seems that if both Excel and Word are open, both are reported by Task Manager as 'not responding,' and that is the end of the session. If anything, the problem seems to have gotten worse recently. Could it be an enhancement to the operating system that is just, by chance, causing this problem?

Does anyone have any fixes?

Word, Excel, and Powerpoint 2000 files can be read by Office 97 applications as long as you did not use any features not available in Office 97, such as table within a table in Word.

The other two I'm not sure about, but I'd suppose they will. I'm not sure why you would want to set it up that way. Perhaps if you tell us why, we can give you better answers.

Anyhow, are all mobos with a higher FSB also compatiable to run at lower FSB speeds (and the manufactuerers just leave that info out of the specs. )?

I'm looking for a new router. I have an Xbox 360, laptop, Wii, and Blu-Ray player that access the internet via Wi-Fi. The only one that can use N is the Blu-Ray player. If I get an N router will I be able to use the N router and connect to G adapters?

A:Is 802.11N backwards compatible with 802.11G?

Yes most certainly you will be able too as mostly all routers with wireless N also support wireless G.

Hi, I have an odd problem. I have used transmit on my Mac many times to send large files to my friend's server.
I tried to send a 1.5 gb file using transmit on my Mac. My friend was watching the file come onto his server at about 300 jb's per second. It got about half way finished and the file started to diminish till it was about 55 kb.

I thought perhaps it is a Mavericks problem so I set up fireftp on my windows 8.1 machine. Exactly the same thing happened. I am not at my limit with my ISP, nowhere near it. Any ideas please?

Oh yes my router is an AirPort Extreme to which both computers are hard wired.

It's very hard to find ddr266 pc2100 ram for a reasonable price. Are the new ram speed such as pc2700, pc3200 compatible with mine?

Is it necassary to find the ram that matches your specs.

A:Is RAM backwards compatible?

some people had success with mixing RAM speeds such as DDR266 with DDR333. nonetheless, there are people who were unsuccessful. but most people would say that as long as your motherboard can support it (motherboard can support up to DDR400), it is ok to mix it a DDR266 but it will deafult to the lowest speed of the RAM's installed.

I didn't see anything about this around the site, so here goes. All of a sudden on my laptop, it's started reverse organizing everything, but only when I'm opening a file. (File > Open) That's the only place. No matter how many times I reverse it around to A to Z, when I open the next folder, it's right back to Z to A. Sadly I'm not very well versed in being backwards. I have two windows desktops and a mac mini all connected to a 16 port switch. All can ping each other just fine.

Both Windows machines are running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit - One machine I use as my file and media server, with file sharing turned on in Network & Sharing Center; the other is simply a workstation, I have file sharing turned off on that machine. They are in the same homegroup, and I have no trouble reading & writing from workstation to server. Mac mini is running Snow Leo 10.6.6. All machines can access other network resources (printer, Internet).

Using Mac, I can connect to the workstation (using Finder's Connect to Server), but I cannot connect to the server! This is backwards Macintosh!

I can access the user folder on the workstation from the Mac, and nothing else b/c file sharing is turned off on the workstation. But the Mac doesn't even connect to the server machine in Connect to Server. I get a Mac error saying check the IP address which leads me to think network related, but both computers can ping OK.

I have Norton 360 on the workstation and Windows Firewall on the server. Is this why? I wouldn't think Windows FW would block the Mac but allow the Windows workstation? Like I said, homegroup and even direct connecting to the share works from the workstation.

Just not the Mac.

Any ideas?

A:Sharing is Backwards with Mac?

I am still unable to access with Mac, and now have confirmed the ability to access server files with another Windows 7 pro 64 bit machine - a laptop.

Why can windows access these files but Mac can't?

A:Backwards regedit

Open regedit and click the File menu. Then, click on HKEY_USERS or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. This will make the "Load hive" option in the File menu become available. Load the hive you want to examine. It will become a temporary sub-key of the major key you chose. Export the entries you want, and then be sure to unload the hive you loaded.

i use win xp pro with hebrew enabled (the interface is in english and all but i have hebrew fonts installed through the regional and language settings).

i used to have win 98 SE and i ran lighttek's software - Talisman, its a shell customization software for anyone that didnt know.

on win 98 it ran perfectly, except for a crash here and there (win 98 you know... :-) and when i tried to run it under win xp the hebrew fonts appeard backwards.

i want to say that i dont have those problems with other software (except desktopX. with it i cant see hebrew at all, i see gibrish...)

i installed all of the hebrew fonts available from the list (im sure i did cause i went over the list for 5 times)

can anybody help?

A:hebrew fonts appear backwards?!

yauluhim, whats up..

Im somewhat familiar with Talisman and I think the problem that you are having is due to the theme that you are using, or the way it "translates" Hebrew fonts. xp is built on win2k kernel , different from win98 and it handles font registaration differently. Aldough talisman supports Hebrew, whoever coded the theme that you are using, might have done something goofy...try posting question at their forum, maybe someone else might have an answer there

Greetings, here is a quick story and then my question. I built my computer about 2 years ago and since upgraded a bit of it last year.

So I am gong to build an all new system. However. This time around I am going to get a VERY nice monitor first since that is what I am looking at. I was going to spend between 1200 and 3200 dollars to get one.

I asked over on the Stardock forums I was going to get a new monitor and asked what they felt was the best one available.

The CEO actually replied and said to wait till Display port 1.3 was readily available for the new 4K monitors. I wanted to size up to a 30" or thereabouts.

So, my question is twofold.

Should I wait for display port 1.3, and when will we see some monitors with it...?

Should I just get a 4K monitor now if there is not much visual difference between display port 1.2 and 1.3?

I see my video card is going to need to be upgraded since it does not have a 1.3 port on it....sigh.

What I currently have:
Asrock Mobo Z77 Extreme 6
I5 3570K ( I have the hyper evo fan setup)
16g Gskill DDR3 ram (I forgot the timing, I upgraded from 8 to 16gigs.)
EVGA Geforce GTX 970, (Yea I knew about the ram issue when I bought the card last year.)
Evo 850 500 gig SSD (I was using Intel's cache drive method to speed up stuff, this was also part of my upgrade.)
Corsair 1 terrabyte storage drive
Corsair 850 watt Gold PSW.
Win 7 pro 64
Asus 27' Monitor. I am not helping you all by not remembering the model number... Read more

A:Building backwards, Monitor first

I'm a little curious as to why you're planning to rebuild your system? From the looks of it, it's still a pretty solid machine. As far as I know, DisplayPort 1.3 is already out. It's been talk of another release already (DisplayPort 1.4a) is this what you were waiting for? If so, I wouldn't waste the time. As for 4K, what exactly do you do with your machine? Knowing this will make it easier for us to recommend suggestions. I personally wouldn't go for 4K right now, but that's just my opinion. There isn't enough content available and it's still expensive to facilitate. Dell has very good offerings when it comes to high-end displays. I'd personally go for either the

Dell UltraSharp U3014

I know there a few monitor guys in the community. Hopefully, one of them will see your post and provide you with more suggestions.

OK, to start, I generally am pretty decent at resolving computer issues (removing maleware or a virus) but I believe this has gotten out of hand. I use Norton's Internet Security (an expensive joke, I am finding after 10 years) and malewarebytes pro.  About 2 weeks ago, I noticed that my security was turned off, took forever to shut down my computer and things were just a bit buggy.  Tried to do a restore and it constantly failed or would just not respond.  Used Malewarebytes Pro and found a couple of things that were supposedly removed.  On Monday 3/3/14 I noticed that things were just not right. Nortons would not come up, Malewarebytes would not work and I contacted Nortons support (just a joke..and I am leaving it at that). They told me to uninstall Malewarebytes (which will NOT uninstall) and Uninstall/reinstall Nortons. Nortons has been reinstalled and uninstalled and will not work.  I spoke to a friend who suggested Combo Fix.  It ran for a couple of hours including the report part.  I have NO internet access except from running in SafeMode for my Windows 7 computer.  I guess the only word I have left is...HELP

I got surprised yesterday when I received my WD 500GB SE16 Sata2 plugged in my ASUS P4P800-Dx (which only supports Sata1) and The BIOS recognize the drive right away, but not Windows, I've prepared the HDD using the WD lifeguard tools and after that it seem impossible to access the HDD. I've tried Partition magic and no luck recognizing the drive on XP.

Could it be an DOA?something about compatibility with my MOBO? or Corrupted Windows? (I've been having issues with windows before the HD)

All input will be appreciated, Thanks!

A:are HDD SATA2 not compatible backwards?

If the BIOS detects the drive right, then it is obviously working over SATA150.

How about the Windows standard drive management utility?

Did you connect the drive to a RAID controller? You may have to do some extra configuring in the RAID BIOS or with the RAID utility.

Easy to test Windows issues: pop in a Linux live CD and see if you get the drive recognised there.

A:PrintKey2000 - Printing backwards

setttings/control panel
printers and faxes
right click on the printer in question
click properties

Somewhere within properties look for settings for like mirrors, transfers, etc.. most likely to fix the problem you will just need to nose around the properties for a bit until you find a check box option that fixes the problem.

If the printer came with its' own software, not including drivers, it could be in the software.

My "up" arrow is "down" and my "down" arrow is "up" - but only when on an internet site entering data into a form. My up and down arrow seem to be fine other than that (seems to work correctly in excel & word for example) When I asked for help from the website crew they said it was my keyboard - but I don't believe them because it seems to work fine everywhere else. One of my friends told me to ask them something about the "field ordering" in their coding for that particular page, but they said it looked fine.

Is there a setting that would cause my up/down arrows to be down/up but only some of the time. I have to use this site a lot and I'm contantly having entry errors. Is it me, or is it them?

Some applications scroll the text up and down in the 'Box', and some applications scroll the 'Box' up and down over the text 'page'. The latter is less common but it's up to the application programmer.

Hello, I recently corrected an issue with our software where when run on Vista, the address fields would be displayed backwards. The software is written in a Visual RPG product, and the offending fields had the RightToLeft Property set to True. This should only have had an effect on the IO field if a language pack such as Japanese was installed - at least this is the case on XP, which displayed the address correctly. Changing the property to false corrected the backwards address. I am now finding that the arrow keys behave backwards - right arrow key goes left, left arrow key goes right. Even the space bar seems to misbehave in these fields. I have compared similar fileds on the same UI that do not exhibit this behaivor, and do not see any other differences. I have tried to delete the text, update the database, and re-add it to no avail. A search of this forum and Google have not revealed anything helpful. Can anyone offer a suggestion? Thanks!

I'm not familiar with 2003 (I know, I should change my handle). You should have a SaveAs option (Save as Type) "Microsoft Excel 97 - Excel 2003 & 5.0/95" or something similar. I doubt there's a great deal from 2003 that 97 can't handle ; but the obvious answer is to try it before you've done loads of work.

Windows will not do it. Yoou need something like paragon disk manager suite 2009 to expand to the left. You are like the third person with the same problem today. M$ should really let you expand if you have un allocated space.

I read this on another site:

It looks as though you have another keyboard layout set in Windows.
In control panel , regional and language options, language tab there is a
details button. Press this and you will be able to change your default
keyboard settings. Change this to English for an English keyboard.

How do you install win98 software in a win98 environment on Win2k? I know that there is something ou can do to install any software as if its installing on any previous OS. Does anyone know how to do this?

A:How do you make Win2k Backwards compatible?

More than likely the WIN2k was setup w/ NTFS(Thats a good thing). Because of this if you want win98 to be on the same box you will have to start from scratch on the box. You will need to re partition the drive so that you have a FAT partition for win 98. Install Win98 on the FAT (or FAT32) partition. Once that is done Install WIN2k on the remaining Harddrive space which will also have to partition and formatted.

If you put DDR2 667 memory in a motherboard designed for DDR2 533, will it still work?

A:Is DDR2 memory backwards compatable?

667 is the fastest that it is rated to run at, it will run at all speeds lower than that including 533

unless you're planning to overclock, then there's no reason to spend the extra money on thr faster RAM because it will still run at 533

B is the only way to fix it to format the whole thing and start over. I have tried Partion Magic, but it won't chang the d because of the system files. Seems to run fine.

Hi there

You guys were very helpful with the reverting back to Windows 7 from 8.1 that I've finally done it - hoorah!!
So, I'm in the midst of doing the Windows updates, all OK.
First off I had to install the Broadcom WIFI Adapter driver so that I could access my wifi connections and go online - sorted.

OK, I have an Acer Travelmate P253e - have been on the Acer website and input my serial number and got a whole host of drivers which I downloaded.
Everything is working fine with two exceptions:

1) When I watch something on my usual smplayer, the image is "odd" and when I drag the screen it has lag - I am guessing I need to update or install a video driver? Currently in the Device manager it says " Standard VGA graphics driver" - but I think it should be something more - however from all the drivers I have I'm not sure which one I should install. I don't want to install them all just in case I'm installing something I shouldn't or that I don't need.... I am pretty au fait with things once someone explains, so hoping for some help on that one.

2) I had Kaspersky running before, but when I tried to install it it was trying to install Microsoft Net Framework 4.0 I think, but it's not managing to do that - should i wait until all these Windows updates are completed, reboot and then try again?

As I say, any help greatly appreciated, any questions you need answering to be able to help me then fire away...

Many thanks in advance

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this or not. My Toshiba Satellite laptop has the most annoying habit of its cursor suddenly jumping backwards several words (or even lines) of what I am typing, without warning. This happens from time to time in email or web browsing, or when using MS Word. I cannot understand why this happens. Is the problem in the laptop's keyboard? Has anyone ever reported this problem, and is there anything that can be done to stop it?

A:PC2100 and PC2700 backwards compatible?

No. You can use the pc2700 in place of the pc2100.
I replaced my pc2100 w/ pc3000 memory and all is fine.

The Ctrl + left or right OR Up or Down arrow key combo controls the direction of typing on my PC.

Not sure whether it's Windows 10 or Sony that has this feature (Mine's a Sony Vaio Notebook).

I know this has been a hot topic in the past, so hope it helps someone out there.

I have done two recent Windows 7 x64 re-installs or catch-ups (150+ WU behind). I noticed that prior to ~23-Oct-2013 my C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll was at Version 22436. Now it is at Version 18247. One system was x64 Ultimate, the other was a fresh install of x64 Pro which first wanted an update of WU itself. Everything did eventually install and catch-up on both systems (HP Pavilion dv7t-6100 and Dell Precision M6550 laptops).

About ~12 other files in SysWOW64 have the same date/time stamp so obviously a WU action.

All scans (sfc, mbam, mse, etc) come back clean.

Is this normal behavior; to go 4-5 version backwards? I spent time with MS Tech Support and the engineer there thought not. But he was unwilling or unable to cross reference which system files change with which particular WU / KB. Got a bit hostile too. Maybe he was not cleared to check this out

Anybody have clues or insight?

A:Versions of ntdll.dll going backwards - Win 7 x64 Ultimate & Pro

Did the installation DVD for W7 pro include SP1?

Never mind about the SP1 question. The forum was showing you as online when I posted that quick question. I wondered if you had missed one number.
But now that I've looked into it, the version numbers are indeed weird.
It looks like you had no luck in the MS forums - bummer.

This KB seems to be the one that makes the change:
Update adds ITraceRelogger interface support to Windows Embedded Standard 7 SP1, Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

You might want to back that update out and see if your apps stop crashing.

This is from a fresh install (with SP1 included):
Attachment 310879

This is after KB2882822:
Attachment 310880

I've not found the KB that takes the rev number up to 22436...
...but that version number is mentioned in KB2882822:
Attachment 310881
I'm not sure what I'm looking at with those two rev numbers.
This is from KB2859537:
Attachment 310882
So two rev numbers again.
