I normally set my background color to black but lately it has been changing to blue on its own. I have searched online and can't find any HELPFUL OR USEFUL answers. Anyone figure this one out yet?

A:My desktop background color wont stay changed.

I figured out that the updated TeamViewer 7 is now changing the background to blue and it stays that way even if teamviewer is disconnected.

I ran Malwarebytes to try to remove a virus, (I think it was Windows Restore but it was two weeks ago). Now my desktop background has been changed to solid black and some folders are hidden. Google and Yahoo! take a long time to find search results and then they redirect if I click directly on a link. Audio advertisements play in the background and I also get pretty regular IE script errors even if nothing seems to be running. Every now and then IE will open on it's own and go to a pop-up advertisement. My computer acts like it is running IE on its own and it is constantly cycling through pop-up adds in the background, but I can't find anything on taskmanager which looks suspicious. If I run rkill.exe the audio advertisements stop but they start up again pretty soon afterward. I've been updating Malwarebytes daily and running both full and quick scans, in regular and in safe mode, but nothing shows up. I really appreciate any help I receive, as I have been trying on my own to get rid of this whit no luck.

hello,
i used windows home premium 64bit, when i change my desktop background, after few minutes, it'll return to the previous desktop background. can anyone help me?

A:desktop background return to previous background after changed it.

Hello Nirzan and welcome to Seven Forums.

Make sure you're following the steps in Option Two of this article, particularly Step 7, "save changes".

Desktop Background - Change

If the problem still isn't fixed, your computer may have damaged or corrupt system files. Sometimes files get damaged because of malware so run a full scan using your preferred anti-virus suite. Since no anti-virus is 100% effective 100% of the time, it's always a good idea to run some additional on-demand scans. These are free and recommended. The more scans you run (one at a time!) the greater the probability your computer is not infected.

Malwarebytes

ESET Online Scanner

SuperAntispyware

HitmanPro

If your computer comes back clean I'd next run a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot your computer after each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Please post back if anything helped or not.

Hi, any help will be appreciated..
When I open my C:\WINDOWS window on My Computer, I get this weird picture of a manga-ish samurai (which I'm positive I've never intentionally downloaded) as the window background. Other folders window background are unaffected. I've tried changing Window schemes, etc but no change. My PC still works fine, everything functions (except for iTunes & quicktime, but I think its unrelated) so it's merely annoyance really, but I'm worried if it is a virus, it might spread. I've tried scanning with Ad-Aware and Avast but no virus were found. Wanted to try the online Panda scanner but took too long (I'm connecting from Indonesia)

A:Possible virus -- changed windows background (not desktop background)

Hello

Please copy this page to Notepad and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out portions of these instructions.

It's IMPORTANT to carry out the instructions in the sequence listed below.

***************************************************

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop. Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive% -(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Download Combofix and save it to your desktop.

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Close any open browsers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
I'll need the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, ... Read more

Hello, My computer just said that it needed to restart and had the options to restart now or restart later. I clicked restart now, so it did, but when the screen came back up it was red. It had been a drawing done in paint that I saved to the desktop. Anyway, it is now the standard red color, no signs or warnings on it, no bleeding, it's definitely the background color, not anything to do with the monitor. I went into the desktop settings, and it did allow me to change it. Would not allow me to change back to the same drawing (as this now was showing as the red background option as opposed to what it had been). However, it did allow me to pick different backgrounds, colors, etc. So...that's never happened before with the different background color of red just randomly appearing...can anyone tell me what happened? is this a trojan or virus? a default (ie. every 6 years they just change the desktop for no reason to screw with the people?? lol) Any thoughts?

Before you do anything else, create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/file...Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads a text file will open (report.txt), you can close it - the file has already been saved.

Run HijackThis. Click "Do a System Scan Only", and place a check next to the following items (if found):

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm
O1 - Hosts: localhost 127.0.0.1
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{E6F756D3-A1F8-4567-9D0D-07CE2594F152}: NameServer = 85.255.116.153,85.255.112.12

Click FIX CHECKED. Close HijackThis.

Finally, please post the contents of the text file that opened earlier (you can find it at C:\fixwareout\report.txt ) at the end of this fix.

Hi all,

I have a HP split x13. My laptop was powered on and left on the sofa. I was then doing first time install on an Asus R510C which also runs windows 8 like my HP.

Once first time install was complete I restarted the laptop for any updates, then off the laptop. I went back to my HP and some how the desktop background had changed to the same default Asus background as was on the Asus laptop. The default Asus background shows off the laptop image and has Asus in big writing.

How did this get onto my HP?? I didn't do anything???

This is very freaky to me because I just off the Asus and saw the Asus background again on my HP!?

I'm freaked out so please advise!

Thank you.

A:Desktop background changed itself - freaky!!

Hi there Ecko and welcome to Eight Forums,

Relax. There is nothing to worry about. It seems that you've enabled the setting that you profile is beeing shared between the Windows 8 devices that you use. This is a feature that can be nice to use if you want all your devices to view the same profile.

You can disable this setting trough the PC settings app. Just go to the SkyDrive settings and choose for "synchronising settings". There you can enable and disable all the different settings you can share through the different Windows 8 machines you are using.

Sync Your Settings - Turn On or Off in Windows 8

Hope this was helpfull.

I'm trying to fix a computer that has spyware and trojans on it. So far I've run combofix and smitfraud in safemode along with spysweeper which found a lot of different threats.

Unfortuntely the problem is still occurring. The desktop background changed to a spyware warning and a balloon continues to pop up in the taskbar by the clock stating the the computer is infected. I also received occasional IE pop ups that bring me to antispywareupdates.net.

Also, I noticed that the taskbar balloon pops up in safemode as well. I've attached a screenshot of the desktop.

And I've messed around so much trying to fix it myself (before asking for help) 'cuz I'm sure it's simple, that now I'm not sure I can remember what I did just before the problem showed up or what I've done to 'try' to correct it. My 1st shot, even tho' blurred, will show that the 'text color' below each icon was white & easy for me to read. The 2nd, after it changed, shows the color more blackish, harder to read. I also think there's a bit of difference in background color? I also messed that up again just before I came to post but didn't think to get a shot.

A:My desktop icons & background color changed

you ain't gonna believe this!!!! I closed the forum after I posted above, didn't bother to look at my desktop, clicked on my search site to look for something else which also involved clicking on dt & when I did so, would you believe that the text was back to white!! The background color is still not what I want but am half afraid to try correcting that now. I know there are some issues with my PC (mainly the idiot sitting here typing) but there's no way I can do a 'reinstall' which seems to be the posted answer so many times when I read other posts.

Sounds like maybe your user profile was corrupted and you are using a temp profile. Did you see any error messages when you first logged in?

Whenever I try to change my desktop background image to "Desktop Harmony", the default Windows 7 background, no error message comes up but it stays the solid color. But when I change solid color to solid color, the result is different. The background changes.

BTW, I recently reinstalled Windows, I think I fixed my driver problem because I restored Windows.old, but I can't seem to get rid of all the errors such as this one.

edit: I tried to delete TranscodedWallpaper.jpg from
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\

but, Windows keeps making the jpg file AGAIN and AGAIN..... so I need a solution

Hi,
I share a computer with my mom, and a couple of days ago she got a couple of trojans. It was no problem, I got rid of them with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Everything was fine...then today I turned the computer on and the desktop background was changed.

It's a big black box and says:

Quote:

YOUR SYSTEM IS INFECTED!

System has been stopped due to a serious malfunction.
Spyware activity has been detected.

It is recommended to use spyware removal tool to prevent loss.
Do not run any application before all spyware removed.

Something pops up and automatically starts scanning, I'm able to stop it. Everytime I restart, it happens again though.

Problem is I can't open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. When I try, it says:
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the approptiate permissions to access the item."
I tried in safe mode...says the same thing.

Please help.

A:Virus changed desktop background, Can't open Malwarebytes

Forgot to add something, the virus that pops up and starts scanning is Internet Security 2010.

i have 2 rows of icons on my desktop. the first row never moves the second row is never in the row if i move them into a row when i restart thecomputer they move back to where they were before i moved them. why is it doing this? i do not have auto arrange on. its getting annoying to move these icons every day.

A:[SOLVED] desktop icons wont stay where i put them

There are some 3rd party apps for this. Some merely put them back where they were after the fact. Changing resolution, disc de-fragmenting, running Ccleaner and other activities causes them to "move".

I'm using the extended desktop to watch videos on my tv while I continue working on my laptop. My problem is when I switch a video to full screen mode on the tv, as soon as I click on anything back on my laptop the video exits full screen. It's only a problem watching videos online on a web browser (I've tried it on both Firefox and IE8). From what I've been able to find out the problem is that when I click something else it takes the focus away from the video. So is there any way I can stop this from happening? or some other way I can keep videos in full screen and still work on my laptop?

A:using extended desktop, videos wont stay in fullscreen

most flash based videos ( like youtube or similar) wont stay in full screen if you click outside the browser window. unfortunately, this isn't really an error, it's just the way they function.

For some reason and I'm not sure why. My Computer wont show a desktop Background. I think it might have to do with leftovers of maleware or viruses or maybe an unsafe shutoff.

all i can do now is change the color of my background but not turn it into a picture nor select one from the list on the little box off the desktop box. Even if i am to try it from a internet picture nothing works.

is it something in this Hijackthis log file or maybe i have something missing from my computer. This inst the first time iv seen this done, this happened to me on another Pc because of maleware, and an admen got rid of my Privacy Danger maleware and got back my background. I'm just hopping ill get it back again, i hate seeing that light blue background .

So i just found this website a week ago and I thought this might be worth seeing if anyone knows anything about. I've had a Toshiba laptop for about 3 years now, and it came with Vista. About a year ago a friend of mine in IT put Windows 7 on it and i didn't really realize it was bootleg. All works fine but whenever i change my desktop background and turn my computer off, it reverts back to black. I also get a pop-up like once a day reminding me to register, but thats less annoying than Vista so its cool. I just want a background. Any ideas?

Some years ago, I apparently changed the registry value MenuShowDelay to "0" because I felt it would make everything go faster by making menus open immediately. They now open immediately, but this actually slows everything down because now every menu opens when I move the mouse over it, whether I want it to or not. This wastes lots of time because some menus take a while to load everything into them.

So today I tried changing the value to 400. I rebooted, but the menus were the same. I went into regedit and the value had reverted back to 0. What gives? I thought perhaps I had used some tweaking program which was reverting it every time, but I can't find such a program in my start menu. Ideas?

Thank you,

John

Well then I put my ms intellimouse in and installed the ms vista mouse software. Problem is I can go into control panel and change the speed of my mouse cursor and it's good for the session. If I log off or restart the mouse speed setting has revereted. The speed won't stay changed. I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure this out! I am logged in as administrator when changing the mouse - same thing won't stay changed. Any ideas? Is this somehow a user profile issue in which vista won't let me keep the change as it might affect other users? What would I have to do to make the mouse speed stay changed?

Can I edit the registry key for the mouse speed directly?

Or do I need to mess with permissions or something - maybe a stupid question?

I've had many BSOD's on my Dell Dimension 2400 w/ Pentium 4® 1.6 GHz CPU dual CD equipped computer running XP Pro since I put in xpsp2 with it's poorly written atapi.sys v5.1.2600.2180. When I put in atapi.sys v5.1.2600.1106 (into system 32\drivers, into both C:\WINDOWS\system32\ReinstallBackups\0001 & 0002, and I made sp2.cab inaccesible by moving it to C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache from C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386, I could then start Nero w/o getting the BSOD. Then, atapi.sys v5.1.2600.2180 re-installed itself. BSOD was back. Next, I tried unpacking sp2.cab, replacing atapi.sys with the older version, and re-packing the cab file and putting it back into C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386. Atapi.sys v5.1.2600.2180 still re-installed itself from somewhere.(I also cleared all norton protected files during these procedures). Where is the little beast that keeps re-installing the sp2 atapi.sys? How do I stop it?

Get rid of SP2 it's a mess. Re-install xp if necessary. Then just add SP1 if it doesn't have it built-in to your version of xp.

Hi There,

I'm running Vista Home Premium on my new system. I have Windows Live messenger and in each chat window there is an option to set the background for that particular window. When I click browse to select and image file from my computer there is also an option to set this image to the default background for all windows and will then be the messenger's default back ground for chat windows/ I select my image and set it to default however, as soon as I log off of messenger, or exit the messenger program or even have a brief disconnected the default is reset to no background at all even when I chose the image and told it to be the default. Is there a way to fix this? I never had this problem on my old xp computer, the backgrounds would always stay fine through log-offs, disconnected and program exit. Because this was not a problem with xp I suspect it is a vista problem. Can anyone help me out with this? Can I fix it so that the background I choose as default will stay the default after disconnects, log-off and program exits?

I appreciate any help.

Thanks

Hello staff and all others..
(I know you probably answered this somewhere, but humor me, please. Besides, I keep reading that what works for some pcs won't work for others.)

Recently, my employer gave me a pc when we transitioned to home-office work hours, and told me it was ok to customize it, as it would be mine from now on.

Here's the problem;

(It's an old IBM Thinkcentre, with win xp pro installed, pentium 4, with svc pk. III, i believe.)

The log-on screen has a box where my boss's name and pw come up, and all i have to do is click to get on.

I've tried repeadedly to change HIS name to MINE, as the admin user account., but it keeps reverting back to his!

I followed the directions to fix this which for I searched and found on another tech site, (sorry tech guy!) which was supposed to be 1, 2, 3, done....but that didn't
happen, or I woudn't be writing this!

Despite being given three different access points on the pc in order to get this task done, it continues to boot up with HIS name, and HIS password, automatically configuered.

I don't want to lose all access to this pc, so I'm trying to be careful here!

(Oh yeaah, I've heard nightmarish stories of folks who changed admin. priveledges, parent/child rights & permissions and user groups and network access, blah blah, and suffered horrendous complications afterward. Like me, they didn't jack, and didn't bother to ask anyone!!)

With all... Read more

A:Changing admin user...and getting it to stay changed.

The best thing to do is to create a new admin account and then copy the profile from the old one to your new one. Then you can delete his account completely. Changing its name will prove to be an endless job with side-effects.

How To Copy A User Profile

Once copied over, the new account should look and act just like the old one with the new name. Registered and installed programs, either for the machine or just the specific user, should all work as before.

Always have a full system backup, as recent as possible. It's also a good idea to make a full backup when you first get the machine, and possibly save it on DVD, so that you can restore everything when the hard drive fails.

Free drive backup software (imaging, cloning, and archiving - backups can be created on a second hard drive, internal or external, or on DVD's, or BluRay disks. One BluRay disk will hold most peoples' entire system drive's backup at 25 GB's using compressed images, 50 GB's double-layer):

Adaware doesn't do it, either.
I've got hosts supposedly locked down by Spybot, but if I go look at it manually, it has this in it:

I delete those lines, they reappear.

Hi all,
I'm new to this site, and not too knowledgable, but I'm sure some one out there can help.
I run windows XP, and currently my desktop is showing an image that has come from a website I set up hosted by Webs.com. This is over riding my preferred background, which I can still see the edges of behind my Internet Explorer home page.

I must say that the website has been trouble free and extremely easy to operate since I started it over two years ago, but recently I found that I couldn't upload images properly. The images would upload but were far too large for the page, and I could not resize them as I had in the past. I intend to go through the Webs support to sort this out, but my concern now is that the images I had on my pages have disappeared, and been replaced with the message" Oops, Image not found. Webs provides your image hosting  www.webs.com. This is what shows on my screen when I close all tabs

Somehow, in my attempts to upload and resize my images I have caused this.

Everyone I have asked about this is baffled. Help please!

A:Desktop background - image overwriting preferred background

i don't know...but I suggest contacting your current web host for assistance.

I see several reports of this happening but no solution per se.

My sister's Nokia n81 was infected so I connected it to the PC and made a scan with ESET Smart Security. The infection was cleaned but when the mobile was connected to another PC the background changed and my computer icon changed to the unknown file type icon. I downloaded some anti-spyware programs and got rid of infection. I changed the background but my computer icon is still unknown. I noticed that after removing the infection there is a strange entry in startup " Startup item : u Command : C:\WINDOWS\system32\kxp.exe\u ". Also in network connections in ESET Smart Security I noticed that smss.exe is connected to the internet and when I block the connection all my network activity is dead I can't even access to my router page.

Thanks in advance

Hello everyone,

I had this recent event with my computer, where my background had changed to black. All my desktop icons were still there, except the background picture itself changed to black, It happened when I was searching in google, when I finished I noticed the random change. I checked my background themes and found a unsaved theme of a black background, then deleted the picture and changed background. This is not a huge problem, except I would like to know what caused it.

I run on Windows 8.1, on a ASUS Laptop.

Thank you!

It seems I have the PestTrap running through my system (based on other threads I've read). I've downloaded HijackThis and now need to know what to delete. Is there an FAQ or do we post the HJT log to this forum each time?

Thanks so much for helping.
Matthew.

Hi,

I have set the option "Show Windows Background on the sign in screen" in personalization -> Lock screen to true and I changed my wallpaper. The sign in screen keeps the default blue sign in background.

This occurs on my PC and my laptop. Both are running Windows 10 1511
Laptop is Enterprise PC is PRo

Any ideas? Rebooting hasn't worked on both

That's what this option is currently intended to do: when OFF, it shows solid color on login screen, when ON it shows the standard blue windows logo background on login screen. It is probably customizable, but only through a "hack" of some sort.

The ability to keep the lock screen background on login screen is coming up in the next major update. But it is not in the current official build.

There's no option to show your wallpaper on login screen and none is planned. You can, of course, use the same picture as your wallpaper as login screen background and wait till the release.

Respected Buherators:

my name is Ben. My problem is that, yesterday my wallpaper changed, I try to attach, how it looks like. Messeges keep coming like that on the picture, telling my computer is infected with spyware, or telling that, my computer is slower, than it should be or telling "Your security and privacy are at risk!"
Sometimes comes an internet window, I also attached it.
Sometimes comes a disgusting red window, also attached.
I already tried Norton Antivirus 2007 & Spyware Terminator, no use.
I tried to search the background image in windows folder, also faliure.

The scan reports are these:

windows is erroring, but not really, its like a fake error message that says software or hardware not installed properly, but every time it pops up it says for a different reason or location. it looks like it restarts windows and goes back into the operating system start up but keeps looping back into the error, however, pressing any butten during any of the looping process takes me right back to my desktop with all my programs still open and running.

this started happening right after i had anti virus xp 2008 popping up.

I know this question has been asked a few times but I think my problem stems from somewhere else so I'm starting a new thread.

To give SOME background, I purchased this new LG gram(?) computer from Korea without anything installed on it. Not even windows.
I installed a legit windows 7 professional x64 myself. This was my first time... but it seems I installed all the necessary drivers and whatnot. My computer has been working perfectly fine.

And then I wanted to change the background for my log in screen. I believe windows 7 doesn't have that option.
So I tweaked some stuff following these instructions.
How to Set a Custom Logon Screen Background on Windows 7, 8, or 10

That site wasn't the one I saw but the instructions are exactly the same.

And all was good for a few days.
But then, all of a sudden, my computer started freezing whenever my computer goes to sleep and I wake it up. And I immediately thought it's the background so I deleted the folder that I made.
I went back to the website to look at the instructions. There was a warning saying things might get messed up if I change the theme. And that was exactly what I did the day it started freezing.
So I went back, created the folder again, changed all the setting to how it was. And the background was my custom picture.

But it's still freezing....

I haven't touched the windows theme since.

Also, it doesn't seem to freeze all the time. Maybe like 3/5 times it goes to sleep.
It does't seem to matt... Read more

In Windows explorer, you can change the borders, the scroll bar, the text etc. etc. but all around those the color is white. I was thinking that perhaps in doing it a light grey (or blue, beige) etc. would be better.
Why?
Less contrast would be easier on the eyes
Less white would be easier on the monitor
Less white equals less light therefore perhaps even may lengthen the life of the monitor.
Just a thought. So is it possible to do so?
I went to Control Panel -> Window Color -> Advanced Appearance Settings -> and clicked within the active window there to change color but it didn't seem to do anything.

A:Can the white color background be changed in Explorer?

Yes it can be done and this question has been asked before. Read the entire thread here:

Hello-

Just a weird thing happened yesterday. My Windows 7 background was always set to default when logging in (assume most have that background for W7) and last night it changed to a background here located here in my PC:

C:\Windows\System32\oobe\info\backgrounds

That I didn't create. I did have a nasty virus Monday (can't even believe I got nailed with one) anyway I got it cleaned and ran my scans and installed ccleaner and did that sweep of everything. Do you think ccleaner might have changed something? I mean the background is fine (below) and probably came with my HP Pavilion but just curious why it changed?

thx

PS my sounds defaulted back to default too - meaning I didn't have that start navigation enabled I turned it off (clicks every time your in a window and select something) and I had a login .wav file I used and that defaulted also. All seems well just stumped on those.

A:Any ideas how my login background screen changed on it's own?

would not worry about it to much unless something else happens. It might just be something you downloaded. So just remember what you downloaded in the past few days. That might be it.

I know what your thinking,,,,,what??

so here it is,, i formatted my HDD, reinstalled OS,drivers, burner software(NERO)&MOBO utilities. i checked all "power" related settings and all are normal.(IMO)
i'm running win98SE
the only other thing i loaded was Kazaa.
it goes through the normal shut-down processes my pc does shut down but then powers back up.
I have to use my power-strip to keep it off!
Please help folks,,,m at a major loss

A:PC wont stay off!

just a quick suggestion,
check your motherboard jumpers and test your pc's power switch. One way to see if the switch is at fault is unplugging the power wire that connects to the motherboard, then to power the pc simply "short" the two motherboard pins where the wire connects to, but only "short" the pins long enough for the pc to show signs of it being on. After windows loads up, turn off the pc. That should keep it off if the problem was with the switch. Hope this helps, I'm sure someone else with come up with different suggestions.

Hi guys, im new in the forum, don't know if I can start threading right away but here goes.

My setup: 2500k @ stock, ASROCK Z77 pro 3, 2x2gb of gskill ripjaw, HX650, WD Black 500gb+SG 320gb, 6870 Shappire.

My problem started quite a while ago with another motherboard, one day I started my PC and it just wouldn't boot, it ran for about 1-3sec and then it would shut off, infinite loop... So at the time I just swapped my HX psu for a temporary 220w one and it was all ok apart from having to take the gpu out since this psu wouldn't handle it. Then that motherboard burned and I swapped it for a brand new one (z77 pro 3).
At the same time as I got the new board I went to a electronic repair shop with my HX psu since I was sure it was broke. And a week later they call me to go get it back and the guy tells me shes in perfect condition, which was very awkward since ive been messing around with computers for years and I usually dont make this sorta stupid mistake. I thought, well maybe it was the previous board (Even if she did work with the 220w PSU, it didnt really make any sense but I thought wtv lets give it a try anyway). Got home got it running and voila, works perfectly... For TWO days. After those two days with a new board and the rest of the same components the PC went back to the same simptoms, it would power on and off for seconds and loop and loop... Again I switched to the old 220w psu and it works perfectly.
Went back to the store, they tested it and swa... Read more

A:PC wont stay ON

I would rather think the PSU is bad. Your best bet would be to invest in a new one. This more or less would save time and the problems you are having. Plus the expense of repair a PSU that keeps failing.

Powers up but would not boot up. Blank monitor. Cant get into Bios. It powers down by itself after seconds, tens of seconds, minutes, or tens of minutes..Tried this many times.
Moved ram to other slot and it booted to Bios and windows. If it stayed on that long. After a while it shut down again by itself. Tried this many times.
Swapped out HDD, power supply, and ram one by one with known good. Problem remains. That is it boots up, then powers down by itself after seconds, tens of seconds, minutes, or tens of minutes..Tried this many times.
When ever I plug in a power supply (tried several), it starts up for a few seconds, then powers down. Once it did not power down for several minutes. Once while looking at it, it powered up all by itself.
While powered up touching/wiggling the power button does nothing.

ideas? Im guessing the board is toast. Might the processor still be good? Will this processor fit into a optiplex 380?

tks,
paul

A:OPTIPLEX 390 wont stay on

Any signs of overheating?
Are all fans working?
Has thermal paste between CPU and heat sink dried out and needs to be replaced with fresh paste (eg, Arctic Silver)?
Have you stripped it down to bare essentials by disconnecting all drives except boot drive, removing all PCI cards except video, etc?
Checked USB ports visually to see if any of them is bent or broken and shorting the contacts.

my notebook is acting strange tonight. It went into standby (blinking power light) while i was using it and i could not wake it up. I held down the power button to do a hard reset and it turned off completely. when it didn't restart, i pressed the power button. the power light came on and the hard drive light came on, but the screen, hard drive, and fan remained off. I tried unplugging the battery and plugging it back in. it booted normally. about 10 minutes later it went alseep again. the battery trick didn't work the second time. I removed the batter and tried to start it with just ac. when i pressed the power button, it would light up momentarily and then turn back off. I waited an hour and tried again and it worked. for about 20 minutes. this time i just tried rebooting about 5 times and the 5th time it worked. so here i am... waiting for it to turn off again. what now?

A:notebook wont stay on!

I removed the ram, hard drive, battery, and all other peripherals and it still won't turn on.

if i try to turn it on with either just the battery or just the ac power, the powerlight comes on and turns off right away.

if i have both the battery and the ac plugged in, the power and hard drive light turn on and stay on and nothing else happens.

i can hold down the power button for about 5 secs to turn it off.

I CANT get Win 7 to stay asleep. It will go to sleep and stay like that for about three seconds and then reboot.
Any suggestions.

I just use F12 boot sequence in the BIOS to select which OS (hard drive) to boot from
The Vista install will go to sleep- and stay asleep.
If I disconnect the Vista drive and just boot from Win 7 it still wont stay asleep.

A:Win 7 wont stay asleep.

You need to go into advanced power options and change the setting for USB, found here Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings.

You could also configure your network conection not to wake the computer to see if that helps as well

A:wont stay connected

I would suggest recycling the power on the modem, and your router too if you have one. Unplug it, count a slow ten then plug it back in. If it doesn't happen again, you know it was the modem/router. If it does, then you may need to figure out what device is faulty and if it's the router, replace it. If it's the modem, call your ISP and ask about having it replaced.

This is a sticky problem, my laptop with OS XP, starts but then ubruptly shuts down before I can start any software, this makes diagnostic's impossible, it is fully charged and plugged into AC, I have tried all I know on how to fix this problem but I cant figure out what is making machine "shut down" without user intervention. All of the usual suspects have been accounted for, dust, loose wire, not securely plugged in, aha let me say that this also happens when starting in safe mode.
Any help would be appreciated, this is a very frustrating situation.

I didnt change any settings on anything, so I dont understand why its suddenly booting me offline. Any suggestions?

A:Network Wont stay on

goto the power settings/or screensaver settings and change so it does not go to the login screen.

then leave idle and see if it disconnects - just because its been left idle and not because its gone to login screen

how long do you leave it

how are you connected wireless / cable

Tried to power up again but nothing finally decided to shut down the power strip and disconnect the power cord into the tower to check to see if anything was loose inside, nothing loose, powered everything back up again. Started up like before then the power just shut off again. The fan will run while the power is up but soon as I loose the power it will not work anymore, nothing inside the computer is getting hot at all. Not even the processor, it barely gets warm. I have thoght about changing out the power supply but do not know if that is the problem or if it is something else. If any one out there knows what might be the problem or some suggestions to what to look for please let me know, I need to get this computer back as soon as possible, Thanks , Roger.
