Direct Control Panel Paths?

Q: Direct Control Panel Paths?

Hi All,

I have installed RocketDock on my computer and I want use animated icons to launch just about everything I need to do. They require a direct path. I can't create a "sound" shortcut and then change it to an animated icon, as far as I know.

The path for control panel is: C:\Windows\system32\control.exe

I'm looking for the path for the "sound" menu (playback tab, specifically).

I also want the paths for:
My computer
Calculator

Thanks!

A: Direct Control Panel Paths?

::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

%windir%\system32\calc.exe

Not sure how to open on playback tab, try %windir%\system32\sndvol.exe then click on the icon for system sounds for example.

Maybe it will accept this:

rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL mmsys.cpl,,0

I find that I'm wanting to change the Microphone level quite often and wonder if I can somehow create a shortcut direct to it, so it's a 1-click thing, straight to the Levels tab.

Currently I have to click about 7 times to get to that tab. Is it possible to create a shortcut to a drilled down level like that? If not, does anyone know if there's a way to find where in the registry the Level number is stored ? Then I can at least create a few preset .reg files that I can click on to set it without even going into that Levels dialog.

A:Creating a Shortcut direct to a control panel sub-level window

Hello ddd990,

If you like for now, you could use the shortcut in the tutorial below to open to the "Recording" tab in Sound properties to save a few clicks.

Good evening,

I've noticed a difference in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Personalization between editions of Windows 10.

My wife's laptop is running Windows 10 Home, and her personalization screen looks like this:

I'm running Windows 10 Enterprise, and my personalization screen looks like this:

Notice that the menu options on the left, and quick access to change the theme settings on the bottom are missing from the enterprise screenshot.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is it simply a difference between editions? Or is there a setting that is not turned on in my installation?

Thanks in advance!

I'm running windows XP on an old Dell Inspiron 1501 and I'm trying to get my microphone to play directly through my speakers so I can record them both simultaneously. The only answer I've been finding is to tick the 'microphone' checkbox in the volume control playback properties panel, but I don't have a microphone checkbox. There should be a 'microphone' box under SW Synth and CD player but I don't get one apparently.I've downloaded the latest SigmaTel Audio drivers from Dell and despite not having a problem with them before this, I'm inclined to believe that they're the problem. Any ideas?

A:No microphone control in playback Volume Control panel

Okay well of course I find an answer right after posting the topic:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/t/19295458.aspx
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/p/18112824/18235810.aspx#18235810

Those two pages detail how to get an Input Monitor checkbox which functions just like the microphone one I wanted (although you can only mute it, not alter the volume). I used Instructional Set 3 from the second page, having to add the 'RecMonitorMute' entry as detailed in the first page and I can now hear my microphone input directly through my speakers.

HOWEVER, I'm still unable to record both the microphone and speaker sound at the same time. I thought recording the 'Stereo Mix' channel with the microphone coming through the speakers would work but it isn't and I don't know why. Any ideas?

Hello!
I got myself an Audio-Technica AT2020USB+ condenser microphone a few weeks ago, and I haven't really found out how I can change the gain, which I hear is important to do.
There is only one slider where the gain slider also should have been. The mic doesn't have a gain know like some other microphones have.

As you can see there is one slider. It only changes volume as far as I know.

How can I change the gain, is it needed, or can I maybe control gain using the volume slider?
If I can't change it directly through the mic or through the control panel, how can I change it? D:

Thanks in advance!

A:Can't control gain! No slider in control panel!

I have a recording studio (Sonar X3) and use several AT mics but they are not USB mics (such as the AT2035 and AT2050).

"Volume level" is the same as "gain". You can adjust the "Volume Level" or you can adjust the "gain" - both are the same thing. On mixers, amplifiers, etc, some will call the volume control "level" and others "gain".

A USB mic should have its own listing in the Sound/Recording Panel. Whatever slider that is has, such as what you show, should adjust the volume level. Many recording programs also have volume level adjustments.

I guess this may be a tiny bit off the subject here, but I am attempting this in windows 7.

I have a program file manager tool called 'Directory Opus' that is capable of calling windows external programs and passing them the current directory the file manager is sitting on.

So far so good.

Now I want to call a cygwin (linux/unix emulator for windows) terminal with that file manager.

Checking properties on the cygwin Icon I got the path: C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico -

So it is a path to a command and an argument to that command.

Actually I guess it is 2 arguments to a command since I think '-' in that position means to feed anything on STDIN to the command. At least that would be true in unix shell programming.

So using the Directory opus setup I pass this call:
'@async:C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico - <and here add {s}>'

So the call ends up:
'@async:C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico - {s}'

That call does just what it is supposed to. It passed the current file absolute address however cygwin terminal does not understand the windows path notation. If I were passing it: C:\subdir\blah\ It would just say 'No such file' Cygwin terminal wants to see /cygdrive/c/subdir/blah Or at least I think that is what is happing.

So to cut to the chase.... I'd like to put a little wrapper to Cygwin terminal in there with the code necessary to convert 'C:\subdir\blah\' to '/cygdrive/c/subdir/blah/'

But, I do not know how ... Read more

The network I maintain at a school has policy restrictions which do not allow users access to the printer controls. However I would like them to have the ability to control their own print jobs and unpause printers etc. But when editing the policy I find that they get access to control panel at the same time and can do lots of possible damage.

Can I do this any way while minimising possible damage? We are running an NT4 network with some 95 and some NT workstations.

I have used Remote Desktop before, but all I ever did with it was use it to watch someone give me a demonstration on how to use a certain program (and it was on XP back then). But the situation I need it for now, is for installing programs on my fathers computer, who somewhat technically challenged. I can access his computer physically, but for convenience sake, if remote desktop can indeed give me direct control of his computer as I've heard, I would much rather do it that way. Could anyone explain to me how to do this? A how-to link would also be appreciated, if you know of any. I'd be extremely grateful for your assistance with this, and thanks in advance. :]

A:How do I use Remote Desktop for direct control via LAN?

Sure, no problem. See this tutorial: Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) - Network

If you're in the same network, and his machine is configured to allow remote desktop connections, all you have to do is start the remote desktop program on your machine, and enter his computer name into the box.

Hello and welcome to TSF

Let's try to get a GMER log. You must have extracted gmer.exe to your desktop for this to work.

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into Notepad:

Quote:

@echo off
copy /y gmer.exe omer.exe
start omer

Save this as run.bat Choose to "Save type as - All Files" next to gmer.exe
It should look like this:
Double-click run.bat & allow it to run.

Then, use these settings to produce a log.
If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent .
If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click NO.

Click the image to enlarge it

In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ... Sections
IAT/EAT
Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
Show All (don't miss this one)

Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it to your next reply.
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within three days this thread will be closed.

Ok so I did a system restore on my computer a couple of days ago. I'm currently in the process of trying to get all necessary drivers to get my computer up and running again. After doing some research I've found out that apparently the ATI driver is for an AMD graphics card. I purchased this computer and it came with an AMD graphics card but since then I installed an NVidia graphics card and have updated it to the max. So what's up with this error message? Is there something I'm missing?

A:ATI Control Panel

If you do not have an ATI/AMD graphics cards then you need to go to the "Control Panel" then to either "Add & Remove Programs" or "Programs & Features" depending on which version of Windows you have installed and then uninstall the ATI display drivers & control panel.

If you do a system recovery then the recovery puts the computer back to the original state which had an ATI graphics card, it simply doesn't know or care that you have switched out parts since then.

i have had multiple problems with spyware and malware, and i feel like i have finally got rid of the majority of them. There is still one major problem and that is, i cant open the control panel and access my computers properties. when i ran spybot, one of the problems that appeared was;

would it be alright to simply delete that file?

i've gone through the registry and changed the binary value to 0 and i've been able to access the control panel after restarting. however, after awhile it just changes back to 1.

Hi, bballpaulwall.

Welcome to TSG.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. Beware it is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

Upgrading Java:

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 3.
Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
Click the "Download" button to the right.
Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.
Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Note: In the event you already have Vundofix, this is a new version that I need you to download.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.

Hi, Try the following. Download the Realtek HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp73001-73500/sp73189.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72501-73000/sp72862.exe When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

Hello,
I am running XP on a Dell laptop. Just recently, when I try to open Control Panel, it starts to open, then all of the icons and toolbars on the desktop disapear sor a second, then everything reapears and the Control Panel has not opened. If I reboot, I can get to the Control Panel for one or two tries, the the same as above all over again. This seemed to all start when I was trying to set up a parallel-to-USB printer cable, but that could be coincidental.
I think the laptop has Service Pack 2, but I do not have it in front of me to confirm. Can anyone send me in a direction to start investigating the problem?

Thank you for your help and thanks to all the folks that make this such a great board. I have been "lurking" for a while and have been very impressed with the level of help available.

I wrote most of this yesterday (11/06) and posted it to another help forum where it hasn't been responded to. I've added a bit more info today. I found this forum and HOPE someone here can help us out.

My husband clicked on 'ok' when a pop-up came up saying updates were available for Netscape...guess it wasn't from Netscape I found this out after I had done some of the things I've done.

McAfee found 10 or so trojans and was only able to quarintine and/or remove two.

Last week I had a problem and was instructed by McAfee to uninstall then reinstall my McAfee program, which I did and it repaired the problem. So I uninstalled it again...but cannot get the McAfee website to load now .(I called a friend and they could get it no problem, so the issue is my computer). ...and I use the downloaded version so have no disk.

Before I uninstalled McAfee I did write down a few of the things it said (but not all. duh)
proper.exe
winter.exe
porkaa.exe
e ...that's all it said: e
McAfee popped up saying both porkaa and e were requesting access to the internet. I blocked access to porkaa no prob...but when I blocked e the screen went blue and read
"dump to disk1
dump to disk 2"
I cut the power and rebooted.

McAfee said last update was on 10/29..think that was when I had un/reinstalled the program. Automatic updates were supposed to happen.

How did you get to the Control Panel, clicking the Settings item on the Start menu or right-clicking the Start button and choosing Control Panel? Changing the power settings shouldn't affect getting to the Control Panel.

What happens?

Occasionally, a poorly designed installer makes an incorrect entry in Add/Remove and prevents it from working properly. It could also be malware. Sometimes those entries appear as blank space if it does open.

Most programs don't use much disk space. Exceptions include anything that requires a lot of data, such as language lessons, maps, and that sort of thing. Chances are that the most space is used elsewhere.

Hopefully, you have it all backed up for when the drive fails.

These can help track down used space:

These will allow you to visualize your disk space usage:

Visual Disk
Disk Pie

Alternatives to Add/Remove:

Comodo Program Manager (removes programs and all remnants. Future installations are monitored so they can be completely removed, restored if uninstalled by mistake, or even restored to a new machine)
MyUninstaller
Ashampoo Magical Uninstaller (Records changes made to system during new installations)

How do i fix this???

A:Control Panel

Maybe you can do the following and solve the problem.

Start up the Windows XP Task Manager and select the Applications tab.

Now select the New Task button at the bottom of the window. A new smaller window will appear. In it simply type:

explorer.exe

explorer.exe is the Windows Program Manager (or Windows Explorer.) It manages the Windows Graphical Shell including the Start menu, taskbar, desktop, and File Manager. By restarting this process the graphical interface for Windows will reappear.

I experienced a problem sometime ago where I kept getting a pop up message informing me that I had a virus and saying click here. This would take me to a page that was linked to the virus. I'm led to believe that the virus was actually generating the message.

I followed a couple of tech guy threads. Eventually the repetitive message disappeared however I do appear to have lost some functionality.

1. My control panel is not available at the start menu.

2. If i double click my clock and calendar I get the following message in a pop up box;

This operation has been cancelled due to retsrcitions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.

3. When i click certain links on the web i get the following pop up message

Spybot-S&Ds IE helper has detected an URL that is known as a malicious resource.

URL: http://ad.doubleclick.net/adi/P4542.EBYR2 plus some not visisble in box
Identified as: /DoubleClick

The box has 2 options - allow or deny. the allow option is always greyed out and cannot be accessed. When i choose deny the page often continues to open but not always. This happens nearly all the time on ebay but can even occur on the bbc.

Has anyone got some useful advice,

Thanks

Hi CBWEB! Welcome to SevenForums! If it's Font's you need that folder address is C:\Windows\Fonts

I don't think that the Control Panel even has an address.

Ok well I have let this problem sly for a bit after removing some malware awhile back ago. Everything seemed fine but the Control Panel. It is disabled for the most part and can't use any of the tools inside it. It tells me "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." This is the only problem that I still have an issue with after the removal of the malware, so I believe a certain something was not removed. Any support? Thanks.

what do you mean all included? "one-size-fits-all?" If there is an updated driver that says it's for the 7500 all in wonder then I would try deleting the device in the device manager and restart, and install that.

You've probably tried that I know...but I'm just putting it out there depending on what you mean with your last comment.

Trying to bring back my daughters laptop without doing a complete restage as her boyfriend is certainly causing her (and now I!) some grief.

I've added her to my Zone Alarm Security Suite (get 3 PC's ) and ran both spyware/virus which cleaned up a lot. Had to run SmitFraudFix which I found on a helpful forum and it ran to completion to bring back the control panel in safe mode. Still can't get the control panel back in regular mode though. Also still have other unexpected restrictions. Does this hijack log give any indication of why or whether there are any other problems?

Once I get this all cleaned up (if possible) I'll bring her current with Windows updates and SP's.

Thank you for your review!

A:Help can't use the control panel

Hi and welcome

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
--------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
...
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.

**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

My S3 graphics card had a nice control panel to adjust Gamma, Overlay and other settings. But Win XP decided I needed a update and changed everything, now the control panel has gone ! :( Tried doing a sys restore and driver rollback but the controls have disappeared.

Any wizards that could help me - please ?

Check the vid card manufacturers web site for software downloads for your card. The app you're talking about may be separate from the driver update.

I purchased a new computer with Windows 7 - Home Premium. The computer went to sleep, and I would have to punch it on and wake it up. This was no problem until I put a slide show on my desk top. When my computer went to sleep and I turned it back on, the pictures were going by on the slide show but my icons and start menu did not show up. Knowing very little about settings, I finally managed to find a place in the control panel that said to restore to defaults, so I did. I turned the computer off and back on and my icons and start menu appeared, but now I cannot open my control panel. When I go to start and click on control panel, it takes it down to the task bar, and when I right click on it, some lines of text appear with various things listed in the control panel, but I cannot get them to do anything. Now I am unable to get into my control panel at all in order to try and make any changes. Thanks, Dawn

Hi..Today I had my control panel become unusable, whenever I clicked on anything...it says I basically lost my Admin on my account. I also kept getting this stupid pop up every 10 minutes..so I ran all my programs...ad-aware, spybot, avast, registry cleaner, etc...it got rid of all the viruses, and all the spy-ware...so no more popups, slow internet, etc..thats all gone. The problem I'm having now, is that my control panel is completely gone...and when I type in "control.exe", the error I was getting before comes up...saying I'm restricted from opening it...however, I can open add/remove programs and the system info...

I was reading other posts in these forums, so I downloaded HiJack This...and here is the Log from that:

hello

I have a HP Compaq nx7010 running Windows XP Home Edition SP2. I was browsing the web searching for a medicine properties and I guess it was when the virus entered my computer. It has been almost 4 weeks now. The virus was a Trojan (Winavxxx or something like that), it appeared as a yellow triangle with "!" sign in the middle resembling windows alerts; alerting me of potential spyware action. Minutes later a pop-up appeared and if I click on it (which I did by mistake, was chatting and hit the enter key when it poped-up) it will re-direct me to a home page which I never used. I also got my homepage changed (hijacked) to google.

I had tried various anti-virus softwares (Norton, AVG, McAfee) and it didn't detect the Trojan nor it avoided its entrance. Now I have Avast!

I have tried many things to kill the virus and work normally. I downloaded SPYNOMORE (by that time I was aware of the Trojan and its big power), I had to re-start my computer and then all got worse.

When I started in Safe Mode, I was not able to see the Control Panel icon anymore.
I tried to uninstall the SPYNOMORE but it didn't let me do it since I was working in Safe Mode. Finally I downloaded SPYBOT SEARCH&DESTROY, and run it. It found many undesirable files and removed them. Same thing with SPYWARE TERMINATOR, it found many problems and claimed it had solved them.

But it did not. The system was still working slow with the same pop ups and yellow triangle when I tried to st... Read more

Please help - something has happened to my computer. My control panel has disappeared - I cannot access any computer information or Task Manager as it says they have been disabled by administrator. I cannot get online except in Safe Mode and Internet Explorer has been changed from default browser. I also have a 'copying Files' that keeps appearing without warning. I have Comodo Firewall and this has been turned off and will not open. Also have Spybot but this will not open either. I had a similar problem recently and fixed it with Combofix but this has not worked this time. Avast scan does not find anything. Have run Panda scan as requested and log is attached.
Have also downloaded and run Spyware Blaster and IE-Spyad.

A:control panel is gone

First off, have you installed or uninstalled anything since the last time you saw the control panel?

Also are you trying to access control panel from the Start menu or from My Computer? If it is the start menu, the control panel link can be hidden.

If that dosen't work there are a lot of sites that report this same problem, this one seems to have a fix:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114010.html

It seems to involve a lot but it is one of the only ones that seem to have the problem fixed.

There are also these, but they don't seem to have confirmed fixes, although they may be a good resource.

Sorry if this is too much info. Give it a good look over if you can.

Hope it helps.

The detailed view of programs in the Vista Control Panel (Control Panel ? Uninstall a Program ? Views ? Detailed) no longer displays the details, i.e. the sizes and the dates of the programs. It is identical to ?Small Icons? view except that it is in one column. How can I restore the detailed view to its original format?
Any ideas?
Thanks

Right click where it says the name and then you can add what your missing. Also make sure you have selected the details by right click in a black area where the programs are listed.

Hello Rock316, you mentioned you were the administrator before, are you not the administrator now? In order to make changes to your system you will have to be the administrator.
See if this will help. Right-click on Start>Properties, on the Start Menu tab click Customize. Now on the Advanced Tab there is an option to display Control Panel, click Display as a link. Reboot.

A:Control Panel

There are two ways to display the icons in Control Panel, which are "Category view" (the default) & "Classic view" (preferred by experienced users).

The icon you refer to as missing (Appearance & Personalisation) can only be seen in the "Category view". Click "Category view" in the left pane of the Control Panel.

Hello. I wasn't entirely certain where to put this because I'm fairly new, so forgive me. My problem is I encountered a virus a couple of days ago (winavXX.exe) and a couple of others. I did a little research online and found that it could be pesky and needed immediate removal. I downloaded Prevx 2.0 and it removed all of the components without any trouble.

The problem is my taskmanager and control panel no longer appear. I did some further googling and found the "Lost Control Panel" thread by 'HarleyGirl14.' I followed the initial instructions and downloaded Deckard's System Scanner. The scan worked fine and I got the two text files. After she sent the extra file, she was told to download Combofix.exe and follow the instructions. I've downloaded Combfix but will not run it until you've seen my extra file. Here it is below.

Help!
Like a few guys before me I have picked some malware (these scumbags suck our precious air) that denies access to the Control Panel and I get the message "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions.............Please refer to System Administrator" I am Sys. Admin. (stand alone pc). I have reset the settings for NoControlPanel in my registry and tried to open control.exe, which gave me same message. (These suggestions I found on an earlier thread). Tried everything (except putting an axe through the box), still get this same error message and I'm still locked out. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

=\ I'm sorry if there are a lot of reports going with Control Panels missing, and I would get "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

I did the scanning and the SuperAntiSpyware stuff. Then did the HijackThis report:

I really need help here. I'm working on a friend's computer and can't seem to find a solution to these problems:

-- No control Panel
-- Windows Security Alert Popup which states: "Warning! Potential Spyware Operation! Your computer is making unauthorized copies of your system and Internet files. Run full scan now to prevent any unauthorised access to your files! Click YES to download spyware remover..."
-- Can't install antispyware programs, receive this message "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator".

Suddenly, when I try to access the control panel, all that happens is the control panel icon shows on the task bar but I can not open it. Nothing happens when I click on it. I've rebooted several times with no change.

A:Control panel won't come up

Try clicking on C:\Windows\System 32\Control.exe ----- OR----- Hold down the windows key and push "R" to bring up the run menu and type in "Control.exe" and then hit enter. Hope this helps.

Sometime back there was a posts about fine tuning your control panel, you could download all in one download add-ons for control panel, for instance you could click on config, click on cmd, click on whats on your puter, mem, and lot others. I downloaded this and I really like it, very handy. I did a system restore point, well this restore point did not have these add-ons to control panel. I've looked and cannot find this download, but I'm sure I found it here. Does anyone know of or where I can find this download? thanks
I found it. thanks If you would like to see it , here is the site knhttp://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=681&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=&sid=47ca03895efa76fb58fb612e912108c0ow

I've got a similar problem to the one described in this thread: no control panel appears in my start menu. The computer tells me certain options are "cancelled due to restrictions on this computer." I can't access desktop background (which has disappeared) or open control.exe. Here's my hijack this log:

Download http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
· Restart your computer
· After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
· Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
· Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
· Choose your usual account.
· Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
· Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
· It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
· Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
· When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
· Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
· Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log
