Yes, I just recently installed Microsoft Office 2010 Pro onto my computer. I have run into a bit of a problem. I wanna make Microsoft Outlook 2010 the default email client for my user side and I wanna leave Outlook Express as default for another user on my computer. I cannot seem to figure out how to do this because once you pick a default email program on one user desktop it also makes it the default for other users on the computer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry, that can't be done because the default email application is "global" (All Users).

Hi there,

I'm using Thunderbird mail and download my mail via IMAP, This has got a great advantage as I can access my emails on my iPhone and iPad.

So I switched my Dad to IMAP too. He is using Outlook 2010 and it works great however the problem is that when moving a mail from the inbox to a folder in Outlook 2010 it takes a bout 5 -7 seconds to move (looks like it communicates with the server while you wait) and by POP it takes less then a second. Is there any solution for this?

Because by Thunderbird it takes the same amount of time, no matter if you use POP or IMAP.

Your assistance would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for all your answers!

Hi nallum

How many email accounts and Inboxes do you have?
Are all the accounts IMAP accounts? If so, separate Inboxes (.pst files) is the designed behavior.
POP accounts should all go to the same Inbox.

What is your configuration?

A:microsoft outlook 2010

Go to File > Options > Mail. Scroll down to the 'Save Messages' section, is 'Save forwarded messages' and 'Save copies of messages in sent items folder' ticked?

How many email accounts are you using (are they being saved to the sent folder of another account)?

Are you using POP3 or IMAP (IMAP may have a "Save sent items in the Sent Items folder on this computer" option in the email account settings > more settings section.

Schedule View in Outlook 2010.

Microsoft Outlook 2010 has a new feature called Schedule View that makes it easier to schedule time with your co-workers. Schedule View is a new horizontal layout for the Outlook calendar that displays many calendars at the same time.

To try Schedule View in Outlook 2010, in Calendar, click Schedule View . Schedule View also appears if five or more calendars are selected. (That number is customizable.)

Cannot start microsoft outlook. Cannot open the outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The information store could not be opened. Can anyone tell me how to fix it?

A:Microsoft outlook 2010

Hi Larry welcome to SF . Try these steps
Method 1:

Start->Start Search > then type the following -> "Outlook.exe /resetnavpane" without the quotes.
(Look for the space between outlook.exe and /)

Method 2:

Check if Outlook is in a compatibility mode:
1> Open My Computer>Local Disk C>Program Files>Microsoft Office>Office 14>Outlook.exe.
(If you are using a 64 bit machine, go to C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office>Office 14>Outlook.exe)

2> Right click on Outlook.exe and click on Properties and then click on Compatibility tab. Check if you have any check mark in any of the compatibility mode options. Make sure you also click on the option "change settings for all users" tab at the bottom of the same screen and look for similar check boxes in the window.

3> If you see any check boxes in the compatibility mode options, uncheck all the boxes and click on Apply and OK.

4> Try to open outlook again

Version 14.0.7113.5005 (32 bit)

I recevied an email from "Microsoft" becuase I recently registered for (office.com)
I registered, and then they sent me an email with a link to click on (to verify my email address)

It had a big blue box that said "verify [my email address]"
When I click on it AND hover over it, it will NOT take me to the link.
It just shows a big box with a long link, and on the bottom left hand corner of the box it says click to follow link.

But like I said, I cannot click it. (well I can click it, its just that nothing happens)
I can't even highlight the link that shows up in the box, so at least I could copy and paste it in the URL.

Any help would be apprechaited....

Thanks

If you hover over the blue box and right-click, do you get the option to 'Copy hyperlink'. If so, select that option then paste the link in your browser.

I have a Lenovo Laptop running Windows 7 Proffessional. I recently cleaned my computer from a nasty virus infection with help from "Narenxp" from this site, (Thanks), which also killed my windows firewall and Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010. It also killed windows update, etc... Narenxp was able to help me to remove the virus, fix my windows firewall, and get windows update to start working again.

However, Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection still will not start. When I try to turn it on, it says the service has been stopped. I see the details and it gives me an Error Code 0X80070424. I have checked to make sure the Service Base Filtering Engine is running as well as Background Intellegent Transfer Service, (which is set to manual start).

How do I fix Microsoft Forefront Enpoint Protection?

I was encountering annoying pop up messages when I ran SharePoint for the first time to see what it was. Ever since then it has been asking me for my username and password to a similar server used in my school board's computers. I manually uninstalled SharePoint but it didn't change anything. So I just tried to re-installed the complete Microsoft Office Professorial 2010. It kept giving me some error which I do not remember exactly but searching it on Google it was telling me that there were left over files on my PC after the uninstall. It told me to grant full permission for all users to the %temp% file and I did so. However, nothing changed in the re-installation.

I tried it again after a reboot again same error.

How do I fix this error when I "have left over files"?
I do not know where these files are or what they're called.
But actually looking in my %temp% folder they are a lot of weird files and folders I've
never seen before. (I go there quite often to mod my Minecraft.exe)

A:Microsoft Office 2010 Re-Install issues

Hi,

Try these,

1) Create a new administrator account.
2) Log on and launch the installer.

If things don't quite work perfectly now:

3) If you recieve errors accessing your ProgramData folder, use the TakeOwnership registry hack to take control of the entire ProgramData folder, and if needed, create a "Microsoft Office" folder with "Microsoft Office 2010 Tools" inside it under %programdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu.
4) Your error may return at the end of the installation, but don't worry, it's finished and Office is now installed. Switch user (don't log off!) and go back to your own user. Double-check that everything works. Now, to turn off your computer, press and hold the power button for ~five seconds. This will force the computer to shut down instantly, which will close the installer with the error without giving it the opportunity to roll back its changes.

Hi.
I just installed Microsoft's Visual Studio 2010 application for 32-bit Windows 7.
The set-up finished successfully, but for some strange reason I can't figure out, the application won't launch (the shell/GUI). It preperd to open, when it showed an error message (Invalid license data. Reinstall is required.) - I then removed "Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Professional ENU" and reinstalled it from the same executable I downloaded before. Still it didn't fix anything, it still displays the same error message. I don't know what else to do, so I came here. If anyone can help, please reply. Thanks.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium on my hp laptop. I have Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 for students. The last two (2) days my Outlook has not been responding after I double click on an email message to open and read it. Once I've read the email, I click on the X to close the message, and once I'm back to the list of messages Outlook is not responding.I then press <ctrl> <alt> <delete> to end the Outlook task. A box comes up and says it's not responding. Another box comes up saying Microsoft is trying to repair it, then it re-opens and the whole process begins again with it freezing after a little bit.I went to Microsoft's website and repaired the entire Microsoft Office program.I also followed their steps to repair the Outlook data file for my gmail account with no luck by either.I have not installed any new programs. My antivirus (Avast) is up-to-date. I'm also running Malwarebytes, and Secunia PSI so I know that Microsoft Office is up-to-date as well. Can someone please help me, because I was rather enjoying using Outlook!Thank You,~Diana DiPierro~La Grange, IL USA

Hi DianaI can try to help you. I've only got Outlook 2007 here. My wife uses 2010 but she's an accountant and I can't get near her PC until late at night since it is tax season 2007 and 2010 are VERY similar though, my only concern is telling you to click on something that is in a different place on your version than mine. That said, here are some questions I need answered before we go any further. I'll number them to make them clear.1. Can you send and receive email?2. Is it checking just the one gmail account or do you access multiple mail accounts?3. you said...Another box comes up saying Microsoft is trying to repair itCan you get the exact words that it uses in that message?4. Do you know if you have any extra add-ins installed in Outlook like a PDF converter or Google search tools?5. When you ran the Office Diagnostics/repair did it say anything weird or did it just go through the process and seem okay?James

Are this the last PCs connected to account? Then you may have too many devices connected to this outlook account and you will have to delete some of old devices. This is valid for exchange connections. I'm not sure about the limit, but will check later.

It is nice to finally post a solution instead of a problem, which I had when I upgraded to the Windows 10 OS. My Outlook 2010 would not let me in but it turned out to be an easy fix.
Access was denied because I, the administrator of the computer, did not have permission to access the Outlook Files (pst). Kind of strange since I am the ONLY administrator but none the less, by searching for the file, I found I could change the access in properties under the security tab. I had to change ALL the files to my Name for access, SYSTEM and Administrator were already listed, something that comes with the pc I guess.
Changing access and allowing my name to access the files opened Outlook 2010 and all is working well now.
This was NOT my first course of action but it was the last one.
Hope this helps someone.

Hey! I have been having trouble with this for a while. I want to use my gmail account as well as my google calendar within outlook. Further, I want ti where if I make a change in outlook it changes in google calendar and vise versa. Currently, I've added the calendar using the internet calendar tab in outlook and tried both private and calendar address but they are "read only". What is the best way to get around this?

There is this "Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook" and I have already tried this but I get an error that says this only works for Google Business and Education accounts.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

I just installed the Office 2010 suite and I am pretty happy with everything except outlook. I am simply using it to manage my gmail account and I am having very slow performance:

The Send/Recieve function almost never works due to the application freezing when it is trying to synchronize the inbox

Deleting each email takes forever due to it almost always freezing .

Even when I turn off the auto-preview it is painstakingly slow to click through emails and open them or delete them.

Any tips on fixing these problems? Settings I'm missing? Any similar experiences?

Thanks in advance !

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Short answer- you cant.

Long answer- Starter is only for win7. More importantly, Starter is legally usable only when it comes preinstalled on oem computers preinstalled with win7. So you're also breaching the eula.

How can I check which reminder is from which Calendar list?

Somehow, Microsoft Outlook 2010 is using 2 of the 8 Calendars to show the same reminders.

I have fixed this by manually typing in Calendar list 1 in Calendar data.
Then opening up both Calendar reminders and reading which one has Calendar list 1 in the text field.

Anyone know how other email clients compare to this product?
I know Apple's backup service is on a higher par not comparable with Microsoft.

Hello all,

I hope this is the right place to post my current issue.

Last Friday (6-21-13), our email servers on outlook as well as website were transferred over to a go-daddy server. All seemed to go well when I came in on Monday. I had all my old emails still there but then the tech walked me through the process of getting new emails. I was able to receive new emails but in the process it seems she had me overwrite my old email file. So now I can't seem to recover any of the old emails. My pst. file still seems to be enormous so I would think the info is somehow there. We had our IT guys work on this for over 12 hours and they were unable to help.

Has anyone ever been able to recover outlook emails?

Any help would be so greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Are these files you are working on local to your machine or are they over some sort of network? If they are network files, it may be timing out trying to create temp/caches of the file you are working on as undo procedures. If it's a network file save a copy of it to somewhere local on your computer and try editing it.

I tried to use Windows program repair in control panel but the only reinstalled the office connector. Hi there

I got a computer from my work and changed the username, which created a new user in Windows 7 but I can live with that and move the files and so on.

The thing is that apparently by changing the name it also left the company's domain and now when I try to re-configure my account in Outlook I get the error "The connection to microsoft exchange is unavaliable..."

I would like to continue using Outlook and be able to configure my account, I've checked registries and read quite a lot of threads without success, any ideas would be more than helpful.

Thanks in advance,

I noticed that my outlook 2010 was hanging up (on a Windows 7 machine), specifically when sending/receiving emails, when switching folders and when switching from Mail to Task or Calendar. I started runing "Scanpst.exe" for my pst files, however I have one pst file (that is 349MB) that scanpst only says: "the Microsoft Outlook Inbox Repair Tool Can not recover the data in the file." The funny thing is that I can look in the folder in Outlook, and don't appear to experience problems, but run into issues moving items into the pst.

These hangups are really starting to slow me down. I would appreciate any input you can give. Thank you.

I have 2 Outlook 2010 contacts issues I'm dealing with...hopefully you can help.

1. Unable to search contacts.
When using the "Find a Contact" search box in the 'Find' section in the ribbon, I'm not able to get any results. I have my contacts organized into contacts, vendors, architects, franchisees, etc. Within my contacts section, I have a distribution group for each job location, but no actual contacts. The only results it will return is a distribution list...no individual contacts are returned.

2. Unable to select contacts and organize distribution groups
When I open a distribution list and try to add a new contact, I'm only able to select our corporate address list (internal), my contacts folder (containing only distribution lists), and the stupid 'suggested contacts' list containing emails of people that i don't have organized because I don't need to keep their address)...no other lists are available.

Any thoughts on how I can get through these problems? I'm using Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit, Office 2010. I did allow it to setup indexing. ANY help would be appreciated...this is driving me nuts!!!!

Thanks in advance

I am having a few issues with my IMAP work email setup on my home pc. I have my personal POP gmail setup and my work IMAP email setup on Outlook 2010. The gmail account works perfectly but my work email has issues.

I can't send emails. I try to "test account settings" and I get completed on both the IMAP login and the send test email and I get the test email in my inbox but when I actually try to send an email it doesnt go through.

I don't automatically get emails. I have to click on each folder to update emails.

Each time I click a folder to update outlook has to update cache messages.

I also get a send/receive error at the bottom often and when I click this it says outlook cant access the data file. I tried to create a new data file by renaming the old one and letting outlook make a new one but that didnt help.

This slows me down a great deal when I work from home so any guidance would be much appreciated.

Please help!

You need to work with your company's IT support so they can review your account and your settings, there is no way for us to tell if they are correct and autodiscover (if it is even set up) only works for outlook everywhere usually through a proxy.

I have just recently upgraded to Outlook 2010 and when I search my inbox, the items that show up first are the oldest items. I end up having to wait a few minutes for the emails from "yesterday" to show up in the search. I do have quite a few emails as I don't delete, so it is searching quite a bit. I don't want to archive because I have to at least once a day, pull emails from 2 years ago. When I was using 07, I would search and the newest emails showed up first then the older ones began showing up after a few seconds/minutes.

Hi,

I am trying to setup Microsoft Outlook 2010 with Exchange Server 2003, but I ve run into some problems. Normally I access the mail from mail.pi.ac.ae.

Below are some screenshots that show the error i get when i try to sign in.

After I setup the whole account, I restarted outlook. From then onwards whenever I try to open outlook it gives me this error.

After I click OK, it leads me to this window, you can see my account settings here.

When I click OK i get this error.

If i change any settings in the account settings .. and click APPLY then i get this message and Outlooks closes by itself.

The strange thing is that these same setting work just fine with the Email Client in my Nokia Smartphone

A:How to setup Microsoft Outlook 2010 with Exchange Server 2003

Have you used Outlook in this manner before prior to going to Outlook 2010? There are additional settings that need to be configured for RPC over HTTP if that is the way you were connecting before. If it was POP or IMAP you need to configure your connection that way.

Setup for RPC over HTTP. I think you have to do the initial setup from in the office.

Hi guys,

I have been referred to you guys as I have heard you are the best in the business for answering tech questions, so here it goes!

I was wondering if it was possible to use Microsoft Outlook for organizing and scheduling meetings when people have another email server/software (e.g. gmail, yahoo). What we need is for clients to be able to have access to the calendar and see times when the consultant is available, and to select a time that they are available. This is to stop the constant back and forth of suggesting times when we are available.

(I have looked at online booking system software that integrates and syncs with Microsoft outlook calendar HOWEVER the main issue is that out company uses Citrix Receiver ( client software that provides access to your XenDesktop and XenApp installations) and the group IT of the company have put restrictions on certain applications and softwares we can download. Many of the online booking system software that I have looked at are restricted thus if microsoft outlook can do it that would be amazing)

.

Hi williamwallace1,

Based on your post it sounds like you are looking for a business solution. The majority of the help provided here is for home users, though we do sometimes help solve business problems.

The main issue we run into with solving business problems is the presence of an IT department at the company. You mentioned that your company's IT department has placed restrictions on your workstations.

Given that you have an internal IT department, you will need to ask them to assist you. We will not be allowed to assist unless you are the IT department or get permission from them that we can assist.

Some users I support (Office 2010) are coming across this issue while creating a meeting or new message, stepping away and returning to the message to receive the error-
"Changes made to the item were lost due to a reconnect to the server"

This forces them to close the message and redo everything and is causing quite an inconvenience.

I have tried reinstalling the nic/wifi drivers, changing the network provider order, cleaning tasks and free/busy, creating new outlook profiles and repairing office. Same result.

Any assistance or input is appreciated.

I keep contact details in my Microsoft account (at Sign in to your Microsoft account). I've been using Outlook 2010 with the Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector and this used to synchronise my contacts fine.

However, for a while now, I've noticed mail synchronisation errors and I've had to configure my Microsoft mail account to use the standard IMAP settings (not via the Hotmail connector).

However, this method no longer synchronises my contacts. How do you configure the mail and contact settings in Outlook 2010 to synchronise both mail and contacts in Outlook 2010 with my Microsoft account?

Hi,

When i upgraded to my Outlook 2010, though it looks good, I am unable to find certain very convenient features which I enjoyed before in 2007 and earlier.

1. Last 7 days views.
In the Email filers to view the Emails compactly, we had a last 7 days views. Now I only see This week, Last week, This month etc. Is there a way to create a "Last 7 Days" view? I get over 100 mails a day, and its difficult to move back to last week and this week. Also "This Month" setting makes me to scroll a lot.

2. Expand/collapse:
Most of the times, I see all the emails which grouped became collapsed. This is really annoying. I want all the mails in Collapsed state unless I expand it.

Any support is highly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, agbenny, welcome to the Seven Forums!

Try this to see if it's what you are looking for.

Go to the "View" tab (1) then click "Change View" (2) then click "Manage Views" (3):

In the next dialog box, click "New..." (indicated by arrow):

Then, give your view a name (1), select the "Day/Week/Month" option (2) and be sure the radio button indicated in (3) is selected. Click "OK":

After clicking "OK" above, select your new view (whatever you might have named it) (1) and then click "Apply View" (2) then click "OK":

After doing that, I like to have my reading pane on the bottom so I select "Reading Pane" (1) from the "View" tab and then select "Bottom" (2):

After collapsing the "Tasks" section (arrow), this is what you'll get:

I hope that helps. From there you can play with various settings and other groupings to fine tune the view you desire. Have fun!

I have gone through what I think from numerous tutorials is the correct method of auto archiving. I have found the archive.pst folder in its appropriate position and it is only showing about 150m of data. My Outlook.pst is showing 4.5gb of data.
I notice that all the folders in my in box still contain all the entries from in some cases years back. I was under the impression that when archiving is done these folders should be cleaned up and the older stuff goes to the archive.pst.
When I set up the auto archiving I pretty well left everything at default.
If I open the archive folder from within Outlook and click on the Inbox properties it shows that there is nothing in any of the subfolders.

Obviously something is amiss, I just cannot locate what it is. Any help very much appreciated

I recently had to update a second computer's emails from another computer, both having Windows 8.1 and Office Professional--or sync them. So I exported all three .pst accounts in Outlook 2010 from computer 1 and imported all of them into computer 2 into Outlook 2010. Well, I didn't notice that there was a Duplicate setting (probably because I don't normally do this) and left the Import setting concerning duplicates at the default setting, so I got a lot of duplicates. Since then, I have received more emails into my accounts at computer 2. What is the best way to fix the duplicate issue?

Also, I noticed that many Sent folders were missing in one Imported account for some reason. Why would just some of the emails be Imported and not others? This is bad! If it wasn't for this, I could send an important email today. How can I make sure that all of the emails on computer 1 get Imported onto Computer 2? All too often, I find glitches in MS software.

Thanks.

A:Exporting/Importing of Outlook 2010 Email Accounts Issues

Hey mate,

Here is one way of doing it -
Did you 'include subfolders' when you imported your mail?
1. If yes:
You could possibly go into each folder (ie sent, inbox, deleted folders) and press Ctrl+A. This selects all your mail. When you do this for the inbox, hold down Ctrl afterwards, and then deselect any recent mail you've been sent. Then, delete it all, minus the mail you deselected in order to keep. Then import your mail once again from the file, and do not import duplicates.
2. If no:
You could possibly go into the imported folder (ie sent, inbox, or deleted folder) and press Ctrl+A. This selects all your mail. If you do this for the inbox, hold down Ctrl afterwards, and then deselect any recent mail you've been sent. Then, delete it all, minus the mail you deselected in order to keep. Then import your mail once again from the file, and do not import duplicates.

I'm not thinking of another way right at the moment. Keep in mind, you can start again and import stuff you seem to be missing. Use this tutorial: Import Outlook items from an Outlook Data File (.pst) - Outlook - Office.com - you'd select not to import duplicates, and the subfolders should be imported if you check the box to include subfolders.

Hello -- I have a few basic questions I hope someone can help me with. I installed Office 2010 in September and for the first time was faced with dealing with Outlook 2010 pst files via my comcast email account. As I recall, I pulled my existing email account ([email protected]) and the outlook.pst file came into being as well. I believe I must have duplicated all my email folders and messages to the outlook.pst file because for some reason I thought it would be like a safe backup.

I have been experiencing issues with email for the past month or so. Everything comes up quickly from my outlook.pst file in Outlook, but my assumption that all incoming email would also arrive there was of course incorrect. The problem now is that my [email protected] email account takes a long time to download messages (mostly the ones in folders vs new messages) and more times than not, the account says "not responding" and either eventually pulls up the messages or stops working and I get a red "disconnected" cross on the Outlook icon that confirms it's not working. If I shut Outlook down and restart it, it usually starts up but I have the same issues all over again.

I feel my email folders are too large (they go back more than 10 years), so I need to archive my email. My question is this: Can I safely just remove from outlook.pst all the folders and messages I had duplicated there? BTW, the size of the outloo.pst file is 2.3 GB, and the email pst.file is ... Our small company has been struggling with our Microsoft Outlook. It may be a server issue however I believe it is a setting on the accounts set up in Outlook. When I email to folks at my plant from a remote location everything is fine. When they reply to me, I only see a select few come back. When I visit the plant and plug into the network and I open up Outlook, all the emails that never reached me show up in my inbox. Again it's only about 5 people and the other 5 people have no problem replying to me.

We have 2 accounts set up...one is set up as mail..com.cust.securehostedemail.com and the other is labeled Microsoft Exchange Server. I personally utilize the first one I mentioned above because I am not hooked to our server in my remote office. I have set up my fonts so my "New Email" and "Reply" fonts are the same however I noticed when I log onto my Gmail and click on the Sent Mail folder, the font for my "New Email" is not the same as I configured.

A:Microsoft Outlook Font Issues

Outlook uses HTML to create formatted email messages. The fonts that you specify are suggestions only when recipient's email client reads the messages. (In fact, a plain text email client ignores all the formatting!) Fonts cannot be enforced. Your best chance of having the font show up as you'd like is to stick with fonts that match standard cross-browser fonts. If you use a font specific to Windows, it will only work when the message is read in Outlook.

After reading through logs, I think I need to change my status to "beginner"!

I got a virus the other day, can't remember the exact name, but it appeared a popup appeared telling me I had multiple virus's and my computer was being attacked. Initially I started the scan, as it appeared with McAfee signage, but my McAfee had expired (I already know this was stupid to let it happen).

I ran Spybot, which could not remove the virus. Went to my son's computer (not networked to mine), purchased the AVG program (the program you have to pay for, not the free version), downloaded the software on a stick drive, and installed it on my computer. Ran a scan, and it found three or four malware/virus's, which I thought I "removed".

First, I get a "Resident Shield" alert every 2-3 hours, with AVG signage. Is this normal? After my last experience, I'm mortified to click anything that doesn't say AVG. Second, am I supposed to remove these things as a "Power User" if this is indeed AVG? Third, is this all I have to do? Do I need to do something else?

Also, after installing the AVG softward, my Microsoft Outlook has been acting completely crazy! I have my settings so that Outlook will pull in my email off my providers server, but it does not appear to be doing that! And, when I open emails, they "disappear".

I have a query in with some simple calculations. All the calculations work perfectly in Access. When I merge this into Word 2010 (set up as a letter document) it doesn?t use/show the correct data.

The calculated fields in the query are ?number of people * price tea & coffee = cost tea & coffee? and ?number of people * price buffet = cost buffet". Hello,

I have a new issue that has come up since we converted an Access database to 2007 file format.
Here is the history.

We have an access database that was created in the old file format. In that database there is a button that opens up word and a mail merge file. Word's mail merge then uses a query from the access database to populate the mail merge document.

We recently converted the Access database to the Office 2007 file format and now the merge process will not work.
I have tried to relink the files and have done some research and it appears that the DDE way of connecting is no longer used in Office 2007. I did finally get to the point where I could see the queries i needed but once I try to open that data source Word give me a general error that it can not open the data source.

How can I get these merge files working again?

PS. We are running Windows XP if that is needed.

We are quickly moving to office 2010 also but that uses the same file format as 2007 so I assume it won't be an issue. Any help you can give me would be GREAT!.

Hello referee07;

Copy your .pst file from your old computer to the new one or your portable hard drive.

To launch the Outlook 2010 Export/Import wizard, first go to File menu, navigate to Open, and click Import.

In the Import And Export wizard, select Import from another program or file option and hit Next

Under File Type, select Outlook Data File(.pst) and hit Next

Now choose the file to import, select the options, and hit Next

Once done, finally select the folder to import from(if you want to import complete data don’t change any settings) and make sure Include subfolders is checked. You can either import the file to the current folder or choose the folder.

Hope this helps!

Good morning everyone,

So the other day something incredibly weird had occurred. I was receiving email normally on my phone, came into work, logged in, and began working on my trouble tickets. I noted that when I went back to Outlook to view an email, the email in particular was gone... and then all were gone. My folders, and emails within them, still remained the same. I attempted to research what on Earth happened but I haven't been able to find anything specific to my issue.

I'm using Outlook 2010 connected to an Exchange 2010 server for work. Outlook was setup as cached exchange mode but that has since been changed. The emails also disappeared from my phone's inbox too... it's as if everything was deleted and Exchange figured that's what it should be and synced everything that way. Deleting my OST didn't resolve or resync anything. I ran the scanpst tool on the ost file which reports 93 errors, but as I read the scanpst tool can't repair an OST and thus doesn't do anything.

Does Outlook have some sort of log that may explain what on Earth happened? I can't find any error messages or any other reasons for what may have happened. My view settings weren't changed, nothing has changed on my end. There is no spyware / malware installed on the PC as far as I can tell. No real issues in the Sync issues folder other than a Forms syncing issue which seems to be related to Exchange needing a patch (but can otherwise be ignored).

A:Outlook 2010 / Exchange 2010 randomly deleted inbox email?

Are you the only person using that Exchange server who has this issue? Check with the IT department to see if they can recover the emails in your mailbox from the server. It's possible they recently did some maintenance on the mail server that caused this issue. That fact that both Outlook and your phone are having this issue points to this being an Exchange server problem, as Outlook uses autodiscover and MAPI while your phone uses ActiveSync to connect to the server.

Do you have access to your email using Outlook Web Access? If so, log in and see if the emails are there. If not, it's definitely a server issue.

If your mail is still on the server, one thing you could try is re-enabling the cached Exchange mode, saving the change, and then restarting Outlook. The last thing to try is to delete the email account profile and recreate it. Make sure to get the proper settings from IT if you don't already have them -- although since you are using Exchange and autodiscover, that's usually just a case of entering your username and password when you recreate it.

I'm running Windows 7 Professional and just upgraded IE from 9 to 11. Afterwards, I observed that Outlook 2010 was not downloading pictures (instead showing red x's) and Excel 2010 embedded internet queries stopped working.
I think I've cornered the problem, but can't seem to fix. I have also observed that IE's temporary internet files (TIF) folder may be missing (Internet Options>Browsing History>Settings>Temporary Internet Files shows nothing under Current Location)
and the allotted disk space is set to zero and cannot be changed. If I input another number (no matter the number), I receive the following error message:
"Please select a value between 8 and 8 for how much disk space Temporary Internet Files may use."
I have tried renaming the following RegEdit keys, but to no avail: Cache and LowCache (both under HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Internet Settings>5.0). They get replaced when IE11 is re-opened.
The actual values within the registry keys are as follows:
Cache>Content>CacheLimit = 8192 (Decimal)
LowCache>Content>CacheLimit = 256000 (Decimal)
This is driving me crazy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello All

Win 7 Prof 32 bit
Office 2010

I've been trying to create a Task in Outlook from a Word Document that I have created on this computer. The idea is that a shortcut to the document is created as an Outlook Task. Click on the shortcut, and voila - there is the document.

The "Create Microsoft Office Task" icon DOES send the document to Outlook as a Shortcut in a Task, however, when I open the task, Outlook says:"Outlook blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachments: Shortcut to 'document name'."

It's NOT an unsafe attachment; Outlook WILL OPEN this document if I send it as an email attachment. Outlook will open .docx files types.

This is a one person computer...no network, no sharing. And this problem has been driving me crazy. This would be a wonderful feature, if I can get it to work.

Anyone have any ideas what I (or Outlook) are doing wrong?

Thanks for your help
Barb

A:Creating a Task in Outlook 2010 from a Word 2010 Document

I think this will do the job for you:
Add & Create Outlook 2010 Tasks From Word 2010

.

Quote:
You can create a task from Word 2010 document and save it under Outlook 2010 tasks. This feature is by default concealed but you can make it apparent on Quick Access toolbar and use it directly.

In order to use this feature, you need to make this feature apparent on Word 2010 Quick Access Toolbar, head over to Quick Access Toolbar and from small drop down button click More Commands.

You will reach Word Options dialog. Hit drop-down button present beneath the Choose commands and select All Commands. Now scroll-down the list and find Create Microsoft Outlook Task command. Select it and click Add (>>) to show it on Quick Access toolbar pane. Once added, hit OK.

First save the document and then select any portion of the text in the document from which you want to create the task, from Quick Access toolbar, click Outlook task button.

Upon click, it will create Outlook task for the Word document and you will reach Outlook Task dialog where you can set Start and Due date for the task and add more information about it. Save & close the task to view it under Outlook tasks.

When opening task in Outlook 2010, you can also view the document from which it was created from, just double-click the document to open it.

I had a problem with Outlook emails hanging up in the outbox and then sending as many as 14 copies of the same message. I was unable to fix this Using the "Repair" function of the upgrade installation disk (created from the downloaded file). I removed Office completely and tried to reload; however, my disk got corrupted and Outlook is no longer available. Is there a way to recover Outlook without having to purchase it separately? I am using Office Professional Plus 2010 Home Use Program. The email that came with the original download from Digital River states to go to the "Account Management Console" to reload; however, this is on a hard copy and the original email with the link is no longer available. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A:Solved: Outlook 2010 missing from Office Professional Plus 2010

If you downloaded this from Digital River, then you may be able to download it again, contact them and ask.

If you can download the install file again and it works, burn yourself a CD of the downloaded install file.

Also write the keycode on the CD.

Hi all
Having totally WIPED office 2010 from my system and re-installed again the problem I had with the "Purge" folder not appearing now is SOLVED.

However you still don't get a line through the deleted items -- but they are in Trash folder now.

This is BETTER but still NOT WHAT IS NEEDED -- as another computer with Outlook 2007 doesn't get the "Non purged" items in the inbox which it should do.

IMAP should effectively leave items in the Inbox until purged -- otherwise I might as well go back to POP3 - more fiddly to manage whern you leave stuff on the server but it works.

What I'm resigned to doing now is to use the REST of the office 2010 suite (EXCEL etc) which is really good but stick with Outlook 2007 for email.

Cheers
jimbo

I do like the way 2010 deletes the emails without purge, but I have found that rules randomly fail and some mail goes awol for a while when switching between folders (it reappears after a while)

IMO outlook 2003 is still the best (I hated 2007) but I will reserve full judgement until 2010 is out of beta.

Every day I send out excel documents that I then convert to pdf's. I use the same excel template on each document. The only thing that changes in each document per recipient is the "name" "company" & "email" fields in the excel document.

Question: Is there a way I can get these documents to interface with outlook so that when I select more than one person to receive the document (as many as 30 people will receive the same document), and auto populate the contact info "name" "company" "email."

This way would save me a few steps so that I don't have to pick a contact... type all their info in the fields... send. Select my next contact... enter appropriate info in the fields... and repeat and repeat.

I'm emailing job specific information to everyone working on the same job. I'm sending it to multiple people, but need it to look like they were the only one who received the document. Just like when you get an email about the "deal of the week" that says, "Dear Mr. Johnson, How's your summer going?.... " while someone in NYC gets the same letter that says "Dear Mr. Thompson, How's your summer going.... " from the same sender. Of course the deal of the week changes each week.

How can I make this happen? If there is a better way outside using excel to create pdfs, or a totally different method entirely. I'm all ears. I just need to send the informatio... Read more

Microsoft Office 2010 is installed on my PC (Dell Studio XPS8100, Windows 7). Another member of the household has asked whether she can install Microsoft Works 9.0 on my PC, now that her PC is on its last legs. (She greatly prefers Works over Office, for its simplicity and because of her long-term familiarity with Works.) If Works 9.0 is installed onto my PC, would this cause problems for Office 2010, Works 9.0, and/or my PC? If so, are there workarounds? Thanks.

A:Microsoft Works 9.0 and Microsoft Office 2010 compatibility

The official "word" from Microsoft (pun intended) is that Office & Works can co-exist on the same PC.

Provided you do not intend to share documents between Office & Works (ie both suites will be used separately), there are no "workarounds" or special procedures you need to remember when using them.

I apologize in advance if I shouldn't post here until I am directed to this forum from the "i am infected forum". However, I see nothing written frowning upon starting in this forum.I ran into antivirus xp 2010 a few days ago, thought it had been removed using removal guide found on this website. I even did a mcafee and malwarebytes scan this morning to double check and found nothing. Fast forward to this afternoon. I looked over at my desktop and saw 3 or 4 fake security alerts. Thus it is back.In addition to this, at startup i've occassionally been getting "checking file system on C: type of file system is FAT32". This drive check is done with a light blue background. Takes 3-5 minutes, and then takes me to windows. I was able to put malwarebytes and fixexe onto a flash drive and get them to run on the infected computer(per bleeping computer removal guide instructions). Malwarebytes found 5 "items" infected. This is my parents computer and I would really like to get it fixed before i leave monday morning. I know that is basically impossible due to the amount of people you help here. I have had a terrible time trying to trace down "not responding" in various programs. About 90% of the time however, it occurs in Outlook 2010 and sometimes in Word 2010. I took down the information from the event viewer after the last time it happened so badly that I had to restart the program because waiting didn't bring it back.
Win 7 Prof, SP1. i7, 930 with 24 gig of 1333 Kingston HyperX ram. Several drives: C SSD Plextor and Office is actually installed on a WD Caviar. Neither drive show errors. Only thing I see is that the Caviar is using Microsoft 2006 driver and I haven't been able to find a newer driver. Happens when SATA is set to AHCI and when it is set to IDE.

Thanks for any help or suggestions you can offer.
BTW, I have run scannow and also have gone through my pst files and archived.

We are running Exchange 2003 SP2 and our clients have Office 2010. Our Outlook profiles are created automatically by using Group Policy to set a registry key which points to a PRF file with all the Outlook settings. Lately, many of our users are reporting that their emails are getting stuck in the Outbox. If you look at their Outlook profile, they have two Exchange accounts listed. You cannot delete either of them; it gives a message that this is the default email account.

The immediate solution is to recreate the user's Outlook profile. This allows the stuck email to send. The real issue is that this keeps occurring. Recreating the Outlook profile sometimes fixes the problem for a long time, months maybe. But other times the problem occurs the next day. This is happening with users who have established Outlook profiles as well as new users logging into their PCs for the first time. I've attached the code from our PRF. Any help is appreciated, as we have around 400 active users and we're constantly chasing after this issue.

A:Outlook 2010 Email Stuck in Outbox; Corrupt Outlook Profile

Couple steps you may apply...

1. Repair the offline file with a Microsoft utility called SCANOST.exe. I’ve seen this file reside in a number of different locations, mainly within Program Files. It might be best to search for it with Windows or Google Desktop. SCANPST.exe will also work, though you’ll have to go digging for your outlook.ost, which should be near c:\Documents and Settings\ %profile%\ Local Settings\ Application Data\ Microsoft\ Outlook\ outlook.ost. If your file is significant in size, you’ll save a lot of time with the repair operation by not creating a backup. Because if the repair finishes successfully and Outlook still bombs, you’ll need to.
2. Shutdown Outlook completely, including any runaway outlook.exe processes in the task manager. Open Mail in the Control Panel and before you delete your profile completely, write down the server settings! There’s no need to worry about backing up your mail as it’s stored on the Exchange server. (Essentially, you’re deleting that outlook.ost when you drop your mail profile.) Now, start Outlook and it will create a new profile, where you’ll configure the server with the information you wrote down previously.

Recently a customer of the company I work for did some upgrade to their system (not exactly sure what). The result is that when they send a mail containing a hyperlink to file on their website, the link doesn't work.
When you hover over the link you should get something like 'https//thiscompany.com/page.do?DOCID=123456'.
However, what we actually get on Outlook 2003 is 'outbind://39-00000000C176F3FF67E6754394476777057BDCA60700071475F5FEB9AC4FABB3D7C8EE9381620000007059

On mac mail it looks like this 'x-msg://24/thiscompany.com/page.do?DOCID=123456'.

Yesterday, my Outlook (2010) stopped retrieving e-mail from the Comcast server. When I tried to fix it today, it still wouldn't work. All the settings were correct, but it wouldn't retrieve my e-mail. I deleted the account and recreated it. Now, Outlook points to a new .pst file instead of my old Outlook.pst file, named [email protected] To make matters worse, it doesn't delete the mail off the server. Before, when I would open Outlook, it would download new message to my Inbox and delete them off the server. The new messages would stay permanently in my Outlook inbox. No more. Now if I manually delete one through my Internet browser, it also deletes it out of my Outlook Inbox. It’s as though the new account is just a window to the Comcast e-mail server. I tried changing the Root Folder Path on the Advanced tab of the e-mail account settings to point to the location of my Outlook.pst folder, but that made no difference. I also tried deleting a recent Microsoft update (KB3054976), but this did not help, either. This is a complete disaster for me, as I can't even send e-mail now, except through the server. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A:Outlook 2010 e-mail account won't sync to Outlook.pst file

I figured this out. When I reconfigured my e-mail account in Outlook, I used IMAP settings instead of POP3. This was not how I did it before. IMAP works great if one wants to keep all e-mail out on the server and access it from various devices. That isn't what I do. I changed the profile to POP3 and the poblem was solved. Still don't know why it initially failed two nights ago, though.

I have the outlook Hotmail connector installed on my work machine (On outlook 2010), and I also have outlook 2016 (which connects to outlook.com natively) on my home machine.

Both have stopped playing nice with outlook.com in different ways::

outlook 2010 simply wont connect with outlook.com at all -
Outlook 2016 shows my email and calendar from outlook.com but will no longer show my wife's shared calendar.

Both of these installations were working perfectly with no issues prior to the recent outlook.com upgrade.
Has anyone else experiences issues like this?

I send invites to lots of all day events from my Outlook 2003 to users who have Outlook 2010. When I send these through I set them to not have reminders set. Just going through the frustrating task of switching to new Win7 machines from old XP machines.

I have several thousand important (business) e-mails on my old XP machine under Outlook Express 6. Six different accounts, each with their own inbox. Four are POP3, 2 are IMAP. The new machine has Office 2010 with Outlook, and I have set up all 6 accounts and they are sending and receiving fine.

I have read several articles on how to move (or export/import) all my old e-mails into Outlook, but they all seem to be written as if I have both Outlook Express and Outlook on both machines - not the case. Some say to install Outlook temporarily on the old machine and make the conversion there - is this really necessary? Where would I get just Outlook 2010? Download a trial version?

The articles all seem to make reference to a PST file. I have located the store files on the Outlook Express (old) machine, and they are all in a .dbx format. Additionally, there are literally dozens of these dbx files, many for old folders that I no longer have on the old machine, even some old e-mail accounts that have been closed for years..

Can someone walk me though how to move (export/import) my e-mails from my old XP machine, with Outlook Express 6.xxx only, onto my new machine, with Outlook 2010 only? Can I migrate individual folders, or do I have to move everything (all 6 accounts plus the sent items folder) at ... Read more

Hi Folks

This is my first post on the Windows 7 Forums I hope General Discussions is the correct place for my post.

I will shortly be getting a new desktop pc with windows 7 home premium 64 bit. It will have Microsoft office Outlook 2010 on it.
This will replace my current computer which has Outlook 2003.

Is there a way of transferring my saved emails from Outlook 2003 on my old pc to outlook 2010 on my new pc?

Also I currently have 3 email accounts. Is it possible to configure Outlook 2010 to be able to view emails from 3 different email accounts?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

A:How do I transfer emails from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2010

Hello Richard and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm not a fan of Outlook so I don't have a lot of experience with it. Having said that, I remembered an old Microsoft Answers forum thread about moving 2003 .pst files over to 2010. The first answer by Russ Valentine should still be valid. One suggestion if I may. Before attempting to move any emails I think it would be helpful to back them up, make a system image, do something to protect them should the unthinkable happen.

There's a separate Seven Forums category for "Browsers & Mail" about half way down on the home page. You may get some better repsonses and suggestions if you ask one of the Forum Moderators or Admin to move this thread over. In the upper right corner of your original post is a red triangle. If you click on that you should get a dialog box where you can ask that the thread be moved.
