IE 10 downloaded and installed but not available

Q: IE 10 downloaded and installed but not available

Hi everyone,
New user to SevenForums.

For the longest time we did not have IE on our HP Smart Touch. We would use Firefox. Well, I needed to get IE 10 installed. I downloaded IE 10 from MS and installed. I made sure the Turn Windows Features On/Off from Control Panel had IE selected. However, after I went through the installation, IE 10 was not available. It is showing as an installed update to Windows but does not show in the Control Panel>Program and Features.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get IE running? or how I can check what may be disabling it?

I do not know how IE was removed and unavailable to begin with.

Thanks for any help.

It now has happened on two of my computers. Via Windows Update the AU has been downloaded but not installed. Both just installed the updates for 1511 but the AU still remains. A third computer did install the AU, the fourth is sitting idle so not sure what it will do when I turn it on.

I know I can install the AU manually but this seems like a messed up way to distribute it.

What happens if I download and install an application TWICE? I am looking at a vendors suggestion. I am having a problem and the vendor suggests that I download and install WINDOWS LIVE MAIL. I think I have it installed already.
1-how can I tell if I have it already?
2-what would happen if I downloaded it and I already have it?

My OS is Windows 7

A:downloaded and installed TWICE!!

If you already have the software installed, when you run the install program it will probably have the option to "Repair" or "Modify".

Now, if you do download a newer version, there is a possibility you can have them both installed at the same time.

I noticed weird things on pages I visit frequently.
I belong to several groups with messege boards.
Now when I go to post a messege, the box is micro mini
and I can't see what I am typing there!
How can I change this?
I tried the Compatibility View Setting and this didn't
fix anything.
Maybe I need to go back to the older IE version....
Thank you for any help!

I took a print screen of the way the webpage looks.

Maybe count yourself lucky you're not (yet!) in the situation of a failed AU upgrade with an unbootable PC, and no disk images...

Note the latest update to the AU - some 100's of Mbs- is stalling indefinitely during the download for many. Possibly sthg to look forward too... (fixes posted in related threads- which might be of help here).

I downloaded a file and when I tried to install it, it said it was unable to download because files may be corrupted.

Since it was never installed on the computer, does it mean that I don't have the file anymore?

And if it is still on the computer, how do I find it and how do I get rid of it?

A:What happens to downloaded files that are not installed?

A file downloaded stays on the computer until you delete it. How do you find it? Look in the folder you downloaded it to. Depending on where or why the install failed, it may have left files in various places on your computer. Trying to find them to delete them could be very cumbersome and not always necessary.

I am running Vista Home Premium. I have 7 downloaded updates to be installed for Mircrosoft Office 2007. I no longer have Mirosoft Office 2007 on my computer, I don't want to install the updates for it. But removing the check mark does not get rid of the download, it only stops the installation. How do I get rid of download?

A:Delete downloaded update that is not installed

Open Windows Explorer. Locate the System drive (the one with your OS on it) and click on the > next to it. Then Windows > Distribution Software, Then click on the Downloads folder so its contents is displayed in the right hand window. Delete everything in the Downloads folder. That should do it.

how can i delete an update that has been downloaded but not yet installed? i'm sure that this update caused the corruption/deletion of my user profile and i've restored my system to a date before it was installed. but now anytime i want to turn my computer off, it wants to re-install the update. how can i avoid this? thanks!

A:Delete a downloaded Update that is not installed yet?

The best way clear the whole C:\Windows\SoftwareDistrubution folder and hide problematic hotfixes in Windows Update.Of course in this case you remove all downloaded hotfixes (wanted and unwanted). If you really want to remove only particular hotfix use any good 3p file manager (in my opinion build-in explorer is not good too to this kind operations) and search in file names hotfix ID,i.e if you want find data related to KB976672,you have to find in names this ID.

Relate to problematic updates:

If really some updates cause problems I suggest contact with manufacturer support or MS support, hidding updates is only temporary solution,if you leave it,you will have another problems with other updates in future too.

I've already installed the other updates that appeared in Windows Update. The only two updates that remain to be downloaded/installed are KB2488113 and SP1 (KB976932). However, KB2488113 is listed as an "optional update". Does it need to be installed at all, and if so, should it be installed before I download/install SP1?

A:Does update KB2488113 need to be installed before SP1 is downloaded?

I'm going to help someone install SP2 on their computer in a day or two. He says SP2 downloaded to his computer, he started the install but stopped it almost immediately to backup his files. It didn't install anything. He said he clicked Cancel or Exit to stop it and saw no prompt to save it anywhere, it just stopped and went away.

Where do we look to find the SP2 download? What is it called, and will I know what icon to click on to activate the install process?

A:Where is the SP2 download saved, when it's downloaded but not installed?

Hello and thank you for taking the time.

I downloaded a file and stupid me decided to run it thinking it was fine...well, it wasn't. It strated installing god knows what and now my system is running slow, random pop-ups and warnings telling me my system is infected.

Specs:

HP desktop pc

Windows Vista
Norton 360
Spybot S&D

Spybot is actually the program that caught this. A pop-up window is asking for me to "allow change" to data. The data is :
rundll32.exe C:\Windows\system32\cbXRlyyV.dll,#1

I'm not sure what this means but I have gone into Windows/System32 folder to look around and have found new .exe files installed. I tried deleting them but it says I don't have permission.

Some of the files are:
gbgfctkv4.exe
geBtUmMe.dll

I'm sure there are more but I don't know about this stuff. I am not computer savvy. Your help would be GREATLY appreciated! Also, I tried to do a system restore and it shows no history so I can't revert to an earlier date. Sorry for being so wordy.

You are not alone, I too have my PCs set to check and let me decide to download and install updates and it they are doing the SAME EXACT THING!

It's no mistake and honestly seems to be borderline criminal if you ask me. The only consolation is that the notorious get windows 10 updates are still under OPTIONAL updates and they are NOT being auto downloaded and installed, make sure you have that UNchecked

"Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" UNCHECK THAT BOX!!!!

Somehow I downloaded Windows Genuine Advantage Notification. It now shows on the update icon, to be installed. I don't want to install it. How can I get rid of it?

I am set up to get notification of updates before they are downloaded, and I don't remember seeing the notification for this. Possibly I accepted it by mistake, when I thought it was for the MS Defender. I always go into the Custom Install to make sure which files are to be installed, deselecting any I don't want. However, this is the only one being held, and I can't seem to deselect it.

Can you tell me both how to get rid of this downloaded item without installing it, and WHERE on my hard drive downloaded updates are placed, pending installation.

I am having a problem with programs that I had downloaded, installed and used disappearing on me the next time I turn on my computer. When I go to the shortcut and click on it, it tells me "the program or file this shortcut refers to has been changed or removed". This is getting extremely annoying. I am unsure what is going on. I am running Windows Vista Basic and Norton 360. This is a brand new laptop (purchased in the last month).
This has been going on for about a week or so now. When I first brought it home, I had no problems whatsoever with downloaded and installed files disappearing, now it seems that every time I download a program this happens. What can I do to fix this? I also have installed Norton 360 on my Windows XP laptop and haven't had this problem there. I am guessing it is a Vista-only problem. Any and all help to fix this will be greatly appreciated.

I have run firefox on this pc (XP Pro) with no problems last month, but since I started using opera recently I couldnt get firefox to open this month.

I've uninstalled firefox, re-downloaded it, and installed it again with no open programs in the background at the time of doing so, still won't open.

Any idea why this might be happening?

My system should be very clean too because I have had some HijackThis logs examined and ran all the usual anti-spyware/virus etc and my system should be very clean now.

A:Downloaded & installed Firefox but it doesnt open!

Close Firefox first, then:
Delete your parent.lock file in your profile folder.
Start> Run> type: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox
Open the Profile > then the default folder and find the parent.lock file and delete it.
If that doesn't work, then create a new profile. When you uninstall Firefox,
it doesn't delete your profile folder and it could be corrupt.

I had a quick google and some people have had the same problem. I disconnected my internet, manually uninstalled them and then ran a quick scan on antimalware bytes. If possible I would like help in checking that my laptop is virus free so I can backup some important files ASAP.

Got the Flash uninstaller and ran it to clean out old versions per the Adobe site, then downloaded & run the new version. The Adobe site said the install was successful. I rebooted as directed.

Tried to open a saved RealPlayer flv video download, didn't open (I've uninstalled RealPlayer). Instead the "choose app" window opened, and the Flash 10 wasn't listed.

Went into Start Programs and it's not in there.

Did a Search and nothing came up.

Went into Remove Programs and it does show in there, but is listed
as a Plugin. Don't understand exactly what that means.

Why doesn't it show up in Programs, or in the Select Application window?

Where does it say it's always got to be so complicated?

Thx for explaining things to me!!

Hi,

Was multitasking and installed what I believe was a fake Google Chrome update.  Based on some quick Google searching, I'm pretty sure this scam has been linked to something called a Zeus banking trojan.  Guessing that means I've installed some sort of keylogger.

File was called Chrome.exe and digitally signed by Air Software.  Running Windows Vista on an old Dell Inspiron17.  Basic McAfee AV.

For months I've been getting an auto Java update prompt on startup, located in the bottom-right toolbar, which I've been ignoring (gets blocked by Windows) and then closing. Today when using YouTube on Firefox (I generally use Chrome, but have a YouTube downloader built into FireFox) it prompted me that Java is out of date.  I rebooted, allowed that Java update to install, was distracted working on several other tasks on Chrome, and then saw the fake Chrome Update pop up.  Followed the steps blindly, as I was distracted.

Help in removing this, plus any other malware/viruses that have built up over the past couple of years would be appreciate.

I did so not knowing my pc was not infected. when it downloaded it said to install the programme which I did. Then when I looked at the programme the file I downloaded, it disappeared AFTER I installed it. All I could see was the download list from Firefox that said CRACK.45155.EXE
I know my computer is infected because I ran VBA32 and it found "HDD0 - partition boot sector 1 Unknown.BootVirus". Can someone help me? This computer is crucial because I do all my internet banking on it and I'm afraid to do so after what happened. What is crack45155?

I would be very grateful for any help anyone can provide!

A:A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being downloaded or installed

Is your windows update allowed to install updates automatically? Check your settings in the security center. I hope you are updating via a broad band connection. Also does windows download the updates and stalls have way thru the installation? During the install of the downloads, Windows will ask you to accept certain agreements. You may not be seeing these and think Windows has stopped installing. Windows will not move forward unless you respond to these agreement. When downloading be sure all the downloads are complete and upon the installation part, Minimize your screen to see these agreements. IE7 download and install is one of the biggest culprites. It hides behind your Download and install screen.
Hope this helps.

(Please note that I am not talking about the very first dialog box which appears during the installation permission process. On my computer (configured to the so-called Classic Windows display format) this first box is a yellow-bordered box at the bottom of the window, which has a gray "INSTALL" button in it. Only after clicking on this "install" button will I.E.9 allow me to see the Digital Signature and other related information. [This chronology is insane by the way !!!] ) The file name in the initial yellow-bordered box is correct. But the one that is stated in the Digital Signature-related window is different.

The reason that I am suspicious is that I have malware on my computer which secretly re-directs the updater requests of my anti-malware programs to malicious sites. It also interferes with my anti-malware programs in other ways, interferes with Microsoft Office, and may interfere with access to certain security-related websites. Various anti-malware programs have been unable to either completely eliminate the malware or to reverse the settings which seem to drive these malicious activites.

The specific changes that I noticed yesterday were:... Read more

WINDOWS XP HOME - SP2
Yesterday my Critical Updates said MS Malicious Software Removal Tool was available for download..so I got it and installed it I want to give it a try, but I can't find it! There are only two references to it on my computer (I searched for it by name and by Critical Update number). One is in the C: Windows>Downloaded Software Distribution> Install folder, it says that's a CAB file, it is an exe -? Is that it? (and if it is, why is it squirreled away where no one would ever find it?) The other is in the PF folder. The MS site says "it can be downloaded, installed and run manually from your computer." Except I can't find it. It's available to run online at MS, but I downloaded and installed it, so it's not that, is it? Where is the one I downloaded and how do I run it?
Also - the site says this:
The first time that you download and run the tool by using Windows Update or Automatic Updates, you must accept a specific end user license agreement (EULA). The EULA is displayed when you log on as a member of the Administrators group and then access Automatic Updates or the Windows Update site.
But nothing like that popped up after it installed.

The version of this tool delivered by Windows Update runs in the background and then deletes itself. If you would like to run this tool more than once a month, use the version on this Web page or install the version that is available in the Download Center.

Ok heres the deal.
I crashed my system and have done a clean install. I couldn't find my winxp pro disk so I barrowed my friends. His has SP2 on it. I then found out after installing it, that it wouldn't work with my product key. So i had to go searching for my disk. Thankfully I found it, and did a windows repair to reinstall the system with the new disk.
My disk didn't have SP2 on it.

So I go to windows update to do updates and it trys to install like 80 something updates and everytime it comes back with ": A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being downloaded or installed "

I have a feeling that it thinks SP2 is on my system. is there a way to resolve this without having to do another clean install?

John

A:"A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being downloaded or installed"

Hello and Welcome to TSF

Why wouldn't it work with your product key?
It is better to install with SP2 incorporated onto the cd, saves a lot of time. SP2 should have been eliminated while performing the repair install.

You could try the following but you need SP2 installed before installing the updates, the site should have recognized it was not installed. If the following does not help then I suggest you Slipstream Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Create Bootable CD and do a clean install using the proper software

Try re-registering the windows update components. This may help fix a corrupt installer

1. Click on Start and Run,
2. Type "REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.
3. Should get the message "DllRegisterServer in WUAPI.DLL succeeded" Click OK.
4. Repeat above for each of the following:

REGSVR32 WUAUENG1.DLL
REGSVR32 ATL.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL
REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL
REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL
REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL

5. Reboot

XPS13 with Windows 10.  See screen shot below.  Dell Support Assist program says the two driver updates are recommended.  clicking "install" it shows progress to install, then says installed, but on refresh or re-entry to the program it still shows them as needing to be installed.  No errors generated.  Other driver updates done the same way without issue.  Suggestions?

A:Dell SupportAssist - says driver updates are installed but still showing need to be installed after refresh?

Don't use Dell Support assist with windows 10. Windows 10 will install generic drivers if Dell doesn't have win 10 drivers. You should mention the full model name of the computer. Does Dell support your model for upgrading to win 10? If so, get the win 10 drivers from Dell Drivers and Downloads.

hi peoples

i have installed my media centre for the 3rd time in a month. Due to various issues. (1 being sleep) Now i have installed the same drivers as the first build for HDMI audio and video, which i had perfect dvd playback and tv on, however i am faced with errors about video drivers not properly installed.

Last time it was the HDMI driver which i have installed and reinstalled 3 times. It seems every time i follow the exact same process at rebuilding vista 64 i get a different result.

Is there a way you can reset media centre so it checks the drivers all over again. I am interested in resetting audio and video if possible

A:Vista x64 media centre video drivers not installed or installed incorrectly

Hi, audiophile, and welcome to the forums.

It would help to know your Graphics card and setup - I have installed Vista Ultimate x64 twice - once for testing, and then a format and reinstall as I changed the partition setup - since then (2 months now) I have not had a single issue with WiMP / WMC.

The question is this:

Will performance speed be different

if I have a setup of WinXP(Home or Pro) in a HDD with no software installed in it and a separate HDD with all apps/software installed on a separate HDD

if I have a setup of WinXP(Home or Pro) in a HDD with all the apps/software installed on that HDD? (The extra HDD would be separate for music, pics, docs, etc)

A virus or something hit my Compaq computer. I have Windows XP and Norton Anti-virus. Norton was in the process of blocking the virus when the system froze up completey and a re-boot was the only option. Some of the XP start up files were corrupted or deleted or something, so that Windows XP will no longer start properly. The welcome screen comes up fine, but the desktop is now just a completely blank blue screen, no error messages, no icons, no start menu, task bar....nothing. So I cannot open any programs or do anything except CNTRL ALT DEL to shut down or restart. I tried to do a restore in safe mode - didn't work. Then I tried to re-install XP in repair mode, and I kept getting error messages that certain (multiple) files could not be copied. In the end, the repair installation was unsuccessful. So, I did a complete new install of Windows XP to a new folder (c:\windows2). This install worked fine. Now there are 2 versions of XP on my computer and when I boot up I have to choose which one to use. My question is regarding the programs that were already installed, such as MS Office, Norton Anti-Virus, Family Tree Maker etc. How do I get the newly installed XP to recognize these programs which were previously used by the now dysfunctional XP? When the new XP starts and I click on programs, none of the programs installed on the computer are listed. How do I pull them in to the new XP? Hello,
I recently decided I would attempt to upgrade to Windows 10. However the icon was not visible.
I thus googled the problem and found this site:

Which states: "If you don?t see it, visit our Q&A page for more info." directs you to:
Windows 10 FAQs ?
Which then, under the heading "Why don?t I have the Get Windows 10 app?" the link directs you to:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3081048
I downloaded the troubleshooter from here and ran it.
The troubleshooter informed me I do not have the update KB2952664, which I did.
I found the update in my update history, then deleted it and reinstalled the update.
After attempting to rerun the troubleshooter, it gave me the same error even though I have definitely successfully installed this update!

I also attempted the manual resolution with no success.

Later on I returned to the Windows Update screen to see if there were any recent updates available for my PC. My question now is, Do I reinstall the older updates? and Will they overwrite any files that the Service Pack 1 installation has already installed?

Confirm that the 100mb System Reserved (if you have it) or Win7 partition (if you don't) is Partition Marked Active,

then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times until Win7 starts and is marked System Active in Disk Mgmt.

Then install EasyBCD (click Download - no Name or Email required) to Win7 to add XP by name, allow it to autocomplete drive letter, Save and reboot to Dual Boot menu.

Hi everyone,

I'm currently running BitDefender 9 but it is going to expire in a few days time so I was after the new version. I downloaded the trial from the BitDefender website but when I tried to install it, I was told I needed to uninstall my current version.

I went to Add/Remove programs like usual but for some reason BitDefender is not listed. I went to BitDefender in programs and clicked 'modify, repair or uninstall' and it tells me 'this action is only valid for products that are currently installed'.

I have no idea how I'm meant to uninstall BitDefender 9 since it is not listed! The program is clearly running and installed so I have no idea why it would not be shown as a currently installed program!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Okay, I pretty much screwed myself.

I just bought a computer a couple months ago that came with Vista and was having major problems with the USB ports (it wouldn't even read my brand-new IPOD), and I read somewhere that i could install XP on a computer like mine...and I did just that. The instructions said to create a partition so I did that, and then I installed XP. Now I can't access any of my programs, my drivers don't work, and I don't have a recovery disc nor did my computer come with a Vista DVD with which to re-install Vista with. I went from bad to worse.

I would much rather just deal with the USB problem than what I have now, and I have a warranty so I would like to take it back, but my problem is, how do I put Vista back? How can I delete XP?? I tried going through the BIOS and I don't see anything that can help me.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated. I'm totally desperate. Thank you.

if i reinstall, is there a possibility that it will install to C drive. if so can you guide me? I have an Sp2 operating system CD, but the problem was when i tried to use same cd and cd key, it rejected it so i got an sp3 cd and it was able to install, but then it installed to the wrong drive, D. I really wanted everything to install to drive C as my primary drive

A:When I installed SP3 it installed my operating system to D drive

You need to make backup of all your documents, data etc. before you think of re-installing.

Then put XP Cd in and boot computer off it.
Do not choose to repair existing XP installations but do a clean install.
When the screen comes to choose a partition, choose the first partition. Later choose to format the the selected partition using NTFS.

Now you will have a clean install of XP with C: drive as root drive

Hello Joey,

Its simple, your computer cannot use 4GB of RAM as your computer is using Windows 32bit. To use 4GB or more RAM, you will need to have installed Windows 64 bit. Windows 32bit can only use around 3.25GB RAM, although this might vary between different computers. Could you tell me you CPU name so I could check if it supports 64 bit?

Hi,

Firstly thanks for your help.

I have a problem with windows update kb3045999. It has caused a lot of problems on my system, with programs not loaded after booting (eg notepad, IE etc return error code The application was unable to start (0xc0000018). I understand that this is a known error and many have posted about it online. I can reboot my computer a number of times and eventually the programmes will work as normal, however that is a bit of a pain.

From reading online it appears the way to fix the problem is to uninstall the update. I thought I had done that but the error kept happening. I then had the idea of reinstalling the update and uninstalling again in-case it did not uninstall correctly, however when I try to install the update it advises me that it is already installed and when I try to uninstall it using the wusa /uninstall command I am advised that the update is not installed.

Any ideas on what to do?

Thanks

Michael

Hello,

Is there a list of hotfixes that are required to be installed prior to installing SP1?

I am trying to slipstream SP1 into an installation DVD for Windows 7. It works fine, however, after I installed my newly created DVD, I found an update that said "You must install this patch before you install SP1. If you have already installed SP1, please uninstall it, reinstall this patch, then reinstall SP1." Obviously I want to integrate that patch before I slipstream SP1.

Is there a list of patches that need to be applied before SP1 is applied?

Thanks,
Casey

Hello all.

I have a Windows XP machine that keeps telling me that I need to install 2 security updates.

KB956572 and KB981852. The problem is that these updates are already installed and appear in my Add/Remove Programs. So I go ahead and install the updates again anyway. The machine says the updates installed successfully. However after a system reboot, the same 2 updates pop up again saying that they need to be installed.

I have removed/uninstalled the updates in question. Re-installed them. No success. They still come up as needing to be installed. I have tried re-registering the windows updates components and have cleared the temporary folders of windows update but still the same result.

Does anyone have any tips or ideas? Thanks.

to boot up. Here's my issue I have a HP Desk top w/ a standard 320 GB hard Drive. I bought a new Hard drive (1 TB Western Digital) so that I could move everything to the new one and use the old one as storage. I had trouble even formatting the new drive but eventually got it and successfully installed a full version of Win 7. (the old hard drive has Win Vista with Win 7 upgrade on it. When I boot up the computer I receive a message asking which WIN 7 i want to use and actually either one works. I wanted to format my old drive so that I would only have one Operating system w/ WIN 7 installed.

I tried to format it (the old drive) at the command prompt, but alas it wouldn't let me. So, I said the hell with it and opened the case and disconnected the power cord first and then I unplugged the SATA cable as well as the power cable to the hard drive. I tried to re-start the computer but now it says cannot find something, unable to read or error. So, I take it something is missing from the new WIN 7 install to my new hard drive? WOuld luv a simple fix explanation from someone waay more knowledgeable than myself. Thanks in Advance!

R/ Dave

A:How do I get my newly installed Hard Drive (1TB) with Win 7 installed

Did you by any chance have both drives connected when you reinstalled? If so, your boot files may be on the 320 gig drive.

Try running a startup repair--you may have to run it 3 times.

I have just re installed Windows XP. Windows installed after two attempts. When I turn the computer on there are two Windows XP choices. Only the first works how I delete the other one. I tried Boot.ini tab & both paths are valid according to boot.ini. But only one boots up.

I have one hard drive. With at least two partitions. C: 74.7 GB with 63.3 freespace
D: 74.2GB with 70.6 freespace

These are my original hard drive specifications: 160GB (7200RPM) SERIAL ATA HARD DRIVE WI

So I suspect there is at least one or more hidden partitions leaving 11.1 GB for hidden partitions!

Windows is present on both C: & D: drives. In the windows directory on C: the earliest entry is 19.12.12, 21.43 the latest 21.12.12, 22.50
In the windows directory on D: the earliest entry is 19.12.12, 18.42 the latest 21.12.12, 22.40

Is partition 1 the C: drive & partition 2 the D: drive? Will I be able to delete one copy of windows?

Hope this makes sense to someone, any help gratefully received!

So I have been trying to work through my Windows Update issues, turns out it was majorly broken. I think I have it mostly working now. My issue I am having is down to one specific update that I downloaded a separate installer for. It failed partway through installation and now I am completely stuck.

I am trying to get KB3033929 installed, it is required for me to install Oculus software. Oculus installer says I do not have the hotfix and will not install. Running the Microsoft WUSA installer says KB3033929 is already installed and cannot be installed. Running the command-line 'wusa /uninstall "package_path"' says that the update is not installed so it can't be uninstalled. Running the command-line 'wusa /install "package_path"' says that the update *is* installed already.

So it is clearly stuck in some indeterminate state where it is simultaneously installed and not installed and I am going to have to do some manual cleaning I assume. I am comfortable manually editing whatever I have to do, I just don't know where or how to fix this. I haven't been able to find anything with this specific problem. Anyone have any ideas how to proceed short of an industrial sized shredder?

Hello,

Haven't needed help from you guys in a while. I'm even using windows 8 now. Your advice was so good the last time.. I'm back.

Ok so I have a brand new kingston 4gb ram chip installed on my ecs p-45-t black series board. It replaced a 1gb chip. My other chips all say 1.8v this new one is 1.95.

According to my board manual, the board may only take 2gb chips, that contradicts its 16gb max capacity it boldly advertises. So I threw a dart. Now its telling me that I only have 7gb's one gigabyte more than before but I technically just added 3.

So far I have increased my memory voltage in the blue setup screen you get when pressing delete to 1.95 to see if it would fix this. It has not. I also just downloaded two bios files that I have not loaded.

I wait to hear from you again.

Thanks

A:9gb Ram installed. 7 Gb shown as installed, 6.1gb available. Windows 8

I would not change the bios at this time.
I recommend installing all match ram that meet the motherboard specs. Mismatching ram seldom works correctly if at all.

I have just yesterday installed Windows Vista Ultimate on my computer on a new partition (two new HDs for RAID0 ) and I did not touch my previously installed XP or any of the programs installed on it, in fact, I am able to run most of those programs!! such as Wimamp and multiple games! This took me by surprise as I expected to have to reinstall everything. However I can run them, yes, but to do so I have to find the .exe files for whatever I want to run, or create a short cut! (or for the games, it automatically creates an entry for the games in "Games" which is beyond awsome!)

Is there anyway I can have Vista scan my computer for applications, or my previously installed Windows XP for applications, and set itself up for them? so I can type in the search box in the start menu thingy and they will come up? If not I fear I will have to reinstall everything anyway just over the pre-existing installs >.<

Let me know if you need more info!
Thanks!

I use Windows 7, and recently bought a new SSD of the model "SanDisk 128 GB 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive (SDSSDP-128G- G25)".

I installed it into my computer (Simply connected it to the SATA and SATA power cables, and left it on top of another HD, until I get a 2.5'' to 3.5'' mount), and reinstalled windows 7 on it.

Unfortunately, ever since. (2 days ago), I have blue screens of death 5-6 times a day, and my computer reboots.

A:Directx 8.1 installed for some reason and i had 9.0c installed

there is a process for rebuilding directx, but it sounds like it could be a simple case of a corrupt sp2 install.
uninstall sp2
sweep your system of spyware using ad-aware
uninstall all antivirus and firewall software
start > run > dxdiag > check the version of directx
if it's 8.1, try installing 9 again

if all looks well, reinstall sp2

I have an asrock 939 dual sata2 motherboard and an AMD 64 3800 cpu, I have run xp fine for years but thought I would upgrade to Vista,
I got Vista Ultimate 32bit and then found about the ram limit on 32 bit OS, but for some reason I get more ram showing up in vista when there is less in the motherboard?
When i have 3 x 1gb stick in it shows up as 2.5GB ram, but when I put 4 x 1gb sticks in it takes it back down to 2gb (which is what it showed when I only had 2 x 1gb sticks in)
I then installed vista ultimate 64 bit and all 4GB showed up fine ( I did this to check it wasnt the ram that was faulty) I would have kept 64 bit but I couldnt find any wifi drivers to work so I have gone back to 32bit ultimate.
Is there anything I can do to get the right amount it should be when i have 4gb in?
Do you think the system will run quicker with 4gb in even though it only shows 2gb or should i take a stick out so it shows 2.5gb?
Ive looked on a lot of forums and it seems most people can get 3gb showing when 4gb is in so any ideas why its not working for me?

I have an upgrade version of windows 7; I have upgraded it before from vista to 7 but my hard drive recently failed. luckily I had everything backed up so I just decided to buy a new hard drive and reinstall windows 7. Anyway I did a custom install instead of an upgrade install (which i should have done), now I cant put in my serial number because it says its invalid. Is there an easy fix for this or am i going to have to format and reinstall?

Notes:
I have the windows.old file on backup.
I have upgraded from vista home premium to windows 7 ultimate and am now reinstalling.
I have my windows image backup of windows 7.
I have my "certificates" backed up.

Hello, I would be grateful if anyone can help with this query.

On 1 June 2013 I took my pc back to Factory Settings and did a clean install of Windows installing all the relevant important updates for Vista. My pc is now up-to-date but one thing puzzles me. My list of installed updates lists a significant number of updates installed in 2008. (Two installed on 21/01/2008 and 39 from 21/10/2008). I would have expected that all updates listed would have an installation date on or after 1 June 2013.

I would be grateful if someone could explain this for me.

system running : windows XP professional with sp3

okay, as the title implies, while surfing the internet a tab appeared in the firefox window that said "Updating..." but never showed/displayed anything. After that, I noticed the windows start/tool bar had changed from the XP theme version to the classic version. Then i noticed that there was no network connectivity. When I tried to look up what was wrong, the properties, rename, and delete options have been disabled from the right-click menu.
I received a message that there was attempt to update registry but whatever was done was restored, then my PC reboot.
what I've done so far:
I tried to boot using the windows xp CD but nothing happens. Windows eventually boots up, but I don't get any options to run repair or anything.
Used CA anti-virus for scan and found nothing (did this again in safe mode and still found nothing)
I did a search to see if I could find what was modified, it shows that all user accounts including a Helpassist?? account have been updated in some form or fashion so i don't know what else to do

I see svchost.exe, services.exe, and system taking up 50% of CPU occasionally but not sure what to make of that.

to get the internet started I tried to turn on some network services but all failed due to 'timeout'

Please let me know any ideas, or how to get started on trying to fix this problem.

thanks,

Hello. I downloaded the new sp3 update yesterday and followed all the instructions and i was ready to restart my computer. When i did, everything went fine until after the loading screen it gave me a blue error screen. Since i needed the computer in working order, I used a pc recovery tool (pressed F10 when it started up) and did a non-destructive recovery which took about 20 minutes. Then after that was done i had to restart and do the windows first start up thing. Then i finally finished and saw that all of my custom features and files were no where to be found! All my applications and games that i downloaded are still in shape, but all of the custom features (like background, WMP playlists, Updates) were all gone. so is there any whay which i can restore my old settings? I need to have all my original settings as soon as i can please .

Hi cloud366, it sounds like you have done a repair install. When you pressed F10, did you choose Last Known Good Configuration from the boot menu?

Also, check in C:\Documents and Settings for a duplicate profile. It could be that your original profile has corrupted and Windows built you a new one.

All those type of "custom features" live in your local profile.

Hello and welcome to BleepingComputer I don't see any malware there. Some points:Do you have a bought license for Norton? Or did you get it for free? The reason I'm asking is, it's a really heavy app for an antivirus. You can install a better antivirus that's waaaay lighter and easier for the computer, and takes less ram and actually is more efficient too.So, I recommend uninstalling Symantec's products and installing AntiVir (That's the promotion license for AntiVir Premium -- 6 months for free. You can get their free edition here) or Avast! instead.Another valid point: when did you install Service Pack 3? There has been several flaws with it.. Some people have really bad problems with SP3, I seem to be one of the lucky ones with no issues. Did you notice the problems after installing it?Also have a read through THIS TOPIC.Finally.....Click Start >> Run and paste in:"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /daftClick OK.Click OK to the prompt from Deckard's System Scanner.Click Scan.Checkmark every entry found.Click Fix.Let me know how you get on.

I took advantage of the student offer of Windows 7 and last night downloaded windows 7. I thought that because my laptop was 64 bit capable I could do a clean install to it from the download, which I now obviously realise was a mistake.

Does anyone know how I can change this download for a 32 bit version?

Thanks

A:Downloaded 64 bit but need 32 bit

Why can't you install 64bit? Have you tried and got an error?

downloaded IE9, but cant find it did search, found an empty folder but that all thats marked IE, toshiba laptop running mozilla firefox 3.6

A:ie downloaded but not there

When you say downloaded, if you've kept your Vista updates up to date you should have SP2 and IE9. Go to your Windows Updates and install and check in restore hidden updates for more installations.

I downloaded a program yesterday and ran it but nothing happened. Then I read comments on a video of it and someone said it was most likely a RAT and another guy saying it was probably a virus. I can provide the file if that will help. I don't want a RAT.

A:May have downloaded a RAT. Don't know what to do.

alright so i would say i am pretty computer literate at least for 16 you put me in my whole high school i would pry be second best, here is my HJT file i cant find nothing but i can tell you my problem the quick launch bar is messed up i open it an nothing is there it opens but just lines come and regedit says its in use by another program and task manager wont open

View attachment 32453

A:Downloaded something bad help please

Clear these three items in HJT and rescan:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {3745D43B-4A84-485D-8EE9-BC6D0401DBF6} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtUkIBqR.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4F96CCB9-01EC-419E-AAEA-C2C913F2A236} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\byXRkIYS.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: byXRkIYS - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\byXRkIYS.dll

If they are still present, then download MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and while you are there grab the RogueRemoverFree as well. FileASSASSIN is under More Tools in Anti-Malware, and can actually delete the files while in use. Run that if the files wont delete or keep showing up in HJT. Make sure you update MalwareBytes before you do a full scan

* Click here to download HJTsetup.exe.
Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.

Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I had previously purchased Vista Ultimate for a laptop that no longer works. When I downloaded Vista Ultimate I put in the 32 bit instead of the 64.....I am not able to do a restore to go back to the way I purchased it. I am not very computer savvy. Can anyone please help??? Thank you. And what would be the down fall for keeping the 32 bit installed (somone had told me I wouldn't be using the full capicity of the computer) Thanks again.

32bit will only see 4gigs of ram and usually only be able to use abt 3.3 its also a bit slower depending on how you use it. when changing from one OS format (32bit) to another (64bit) it has to be a clean install.

Now about restoring you may have a backup there and available but since you are 32 bit and it isnt you cant use it. If you were to reinstall vista 64 it probably be available

Is there a way to find out just how much in total the Get Windows 10 app has downloaded it so far?

A:How much of W10 downloaded?

There's no way to know that when Windows 10 hasn't been officially released yet. Maybe at a later date.

Is there any utility that will tell me after the fact who downloaded anything to me? In my case, it's probably an update of some kind. But it has already happened because I see in Networx > General > Today that sometime this morning about 600 mb was downloaded to my computer. Is there any record of the source of this download in Win7, Firefox or some utility I can use to discover today's download, and to maintain a log in the future?

A:who downloaded to me?

Hello

I have setup every application to "ask me before checking for updates",

Even when I am not using any brower, email or any opther application, I notice that my lights on my modem are blinking quite fast... that is something is being downloded. It has been going on for quite sometime.

How do I find out what is being downloded (or uploaded)?

I use
toshiba laptop
window 7 prof
IE9
MS office 2010
Internet secuirity (antivirus, etc ...) from Bell
Thank you very much

A:How do I know what is being downloaded?

And you have no browser open? And check for new email only infrequently?

You could try disconnecting from the modem and see if any program complains.

In Network Connections right click on your connection and select Status. Watch the Bytes sent and received to get an idea of the upload vs download and how much.
