Turn off downloaded apps security warning (ie11)

Q: Turn off downloaded apps security warning (ie11)

Hello, normally with ie, you can't turn off the security warning that you get when opening a downloaded apps (exe/msi files) BUT i thought it may be different with version 11..?

A: Turn off downloaded apps security warning (ie11)

I'm sure that's a full can of worms,
How would one isolate which files are good and bad and when they run ?
Any malicious file would have a field day on users machines

A:How can I disable ,,turn on windows security center service'' warning?

I have the same problem. BTW what is that? Is it the new name for defender because I don't remember disabling any security center, only defender via: Windows Defender - Turn On or Off in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
Scatch that, I remember now. Anyway this warning is annoying me too. Also want to get rid of it.

In Internet Explorer which I only use for safe sites and testing (my main browser is Firefox) I am getting an annoying message which I can't get rid of - it comes back on every new page.

"Your current security settings put your computer at risk".

It's obscuring a not insignificant part of the screen, sometimes right over buttons and navigation features.

I am aware of the risk and do not need any more warnings. I have set exactly the security settings I need want and know what I am doing.
Found two solutions on Google - neither works.

How can I disable this for good?

A:Turn off warning "Your current security settings" in IE

Use this page - internet explorer 9 - IE9 keeps telling me that "Your security setting level puts your computer at risk" - Super User - you need to reboot before the fix works.

actually I want to update IE9 to IE11 on all machines via SCCM 2012.
Therefore I built a package with IEAK 11 and integrated all IE11 prerequisite updates ( to install before IE11 is installed (altogether 9 updates).

Afterwards I deployed the Full installation package (MSI) with SCCM 2012.
On some test machines the installation works just fine (silent). After a restart at the end of the installation updates are configured and the next time IE11 starts.

On one machine the installation stopped because of the following error (from IE11_main.log):

02:15.690: ERROR:   Error downloading prerequisite file (KB2729094): 0x800b0109 (2148204809)?
02:16.267: INFO:    Setup exit code: 0x00009C47 (40007) - Required updates failed to download.

At this point I wondered why this prerequisite update (KB2729094) should be downloaded, becuase I already integrated it with IEAK11!!!??? And also when I examine the IE11_main.log I can see that there are still other updates that seem to be downloaded even
if I integrated them into the IEAK11/Full installation package in order to be independent of prerequisite downloads!!! Attached the full IE11_main-log:

may i ask you why my legit windows 8.1 pro 64bit full updated doesn't warn me anymore when i run a program downloaded form the net ?

for example if i download a program like process hacker under w7 i have a window like this
under w8.1 i haven't it

A:why no warning when i run a program downloaded ?

Windows 8 uses the SmartScreen filter to perform an application reputation check, and it now does system wide (not just when downloading programs with Internet Explorer like it did before).

In Windows 7 when launching these downloaded applications, you get the following notification:

In Windows 8, SmartScreen will only notify you when you run an application that has not yet established a reputation and therefore is a higher risk:

The user experience for applications with an established reputation is simple and clean: you just click and run, removing the prompt you would have seen in Windows 7.

Is there a way to uninstall and reinstall a Metro app that does not appear on your start screen, or on your computer at all?

Here's what happened: I went to the start screen this afternoon and somehow all of my metro apps except for Store and Explorer were gone from the start screen. I go to the charms bar, and the only apps that were listed (under all apps) were Store and Explorer. Everything else has vanished. (And no, I didn't install anything on my PC today or change any settings.... it worked fine this morning, and then vanished this evening).

So, I went into the store, and it says that my missing apps (i.e. People, Mail, Weather, Netflix, etc.) are installed on my PC (even though they are nowhere to be found). I click to re-download them. They appear to install in the store. And still nothing on the start screen, and they are not listed in my apps.

So, ultimately I end up doing a system refresh. After that horrid process, the only apps I have on my start screen are again Store and Explorer.... it didn't fix the problem. Ugh. I go to the store again, and it is the same situation. Says it is downloading and installing, no error messages, but nothing on my actual PC.

Out of curiosity, I try to download a few apps that I did not previously have on my computer -- and they install and appear in my apps/start screen perfectly.

I tried clearing the store cache, doing the sync function (and of course the system refresh). The store says that the missin... Read more

Does anyone know the answer to this? Im afraid to go through the process of reinstalling all of my programs before i get this resolved. Id hate to install them and then find out i need to go through a system restore to fix the problem! Thanks!

I'm still not sure what happened but a few weeks ago all of my tiles disappeared. I did a clean boot, but did not find any issue. I then refreshed my PC, but the problem still persists. All the apps that I had downloaded before 'the disappearance' are in my windows store as 'already installed.' But when I search, they are not installed on my computer. When I swipe down to 'My Apps' in the Windows Store and hit install from that menu, it says 'installing', it completes 'installing' but alas the app is still no where to be found on my computer.
This is only happening for apps that were previously installed before the incident, new apps install fine.

Any help would be appreciated!

Something very odd is happening. I tried to install a number of Windows Store apps ---- none of them would download, so I thought I would try again later, it might be a temporary glitch. Then by pure chance I discovered a lot of files from these apps on an external USB drive, drive E, on which I only keep the ISO file from the re-install. They are all together in a folder called Windows apps. None of them will launch from there.

I know of no reason why they would be in E. I expect Store apps to be somewhere in drive C. Where should they be, and how did they manage to get downloaded to E?

A:Where are Windows Store apps downloaded to?

Hello clayto,

Store apps are installed to the hidden protected "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps" folder by default.

I guess the the app files kinda run by themselves when you double click them so it doesn't matter where they are on your computer. I could be wrong though.

However what about the ZIP files? I remember once using the Dell resource CD and it would download some of these ZIP files...but they would put them somewhere in my program files folder. That is why I was willing to use the CD more since it would place these files in the correct place (I mean I'm not going to put them on my desktop for instance).

So where do I put the ZIP files? There are only ZIP and application files.

Then I used another app which was Weather.. but it worked fine.. Again I tested Facebook app and it also crashed...
So then I downloaded one app (Flappy Birds Free) and it also crashed.. So from my idea I think that the downloaded apps are getting crashed.. I tried several fixes like using another user, turning off Windows Defender and Firewall, Clean booting, Updating Video drivers, scanning for viruses, using Metro apps troubleshooter, sfc /scannow, and all sorts of things.. There is only one more option left and that is to refresh Windows. But I don't have 8 CD. It got broken.. and I can't afford to buy a new one.. What should I do now?

I'm still relatively new to Win10, having done a clean install on my laptop that had been running Win7 for a few years.

I'm trying to understand if there's any advantage/disadvantage to installing apps from the Windows Store versus installing the regular versions of the same software. For example, I'm a long-time user of portable apps and for years have used the portable version of VLC. However, I saw that there's a VLC app available from the Store. So I installed both versions (i.e. the portable version and the Store app version) and the portable version is clearly more robust and has more features than the app. Such being the case, why would anyone want the Store app version versus the regular or portable version? Is there some advantage to installing the Store apps instead of the regular or portable versions of software? Do the apps install and uninstall at lot cleaner than their non-app counterparts?

Ok, so I recently re-installed windows (Windows 7 Home Prem. 64 bit, SP 1), had no issues with it before, Had this PC for year and a half, and today suddenly it gives me the above error when i try to download a file (Even windows updates) off of IE, It's also worth noting pictures do not show up either.
I have found a temporarly looparound by moving a Firefox copy onto this PC from my Labtop via flash drive, but its far from a fix. Still can't download anything, but I can see images and watch some youtube videos.

But theres another error as well when i try to download off of firefox:

I have tried changing my Internet Security settings, but they don't solve anything and they actually reset themselves back to the defualt (Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded) after about 5-10 minuites.

Pretty confident it's a windows issue and not a Networking issue as everyone else can connect fine, and iits also causing issues like "File is corrupt" whenever trying to open files, and is breaking both Firefox and IE, But if mods think this thread is more appropiate somewhere else, Be my guest to move it where it would get awnsered better.

Tried so far:
Reinstalling windows (Yes i moved my games/files to flash drive(s) and formatted my disk when installing)

Changing Internet Security Settings

Thanks in advance.

Yeah writing this with a mobile phone.

I have been downloading some music and movies and by default they are saved to Appdata Virtualstore folder instead of program files. Suddenly internet apps (firefox, chrome, msn messenger, yahoo messenger, steam) stop working due to a connection error even though wifi signal strenght is excellent and network adapters work normally!

Windows has automatically reduced virtual memory page size from user defined 4GB to 700mb even though I haven't authorised this. Why is this?
--> I made some more hdd space and played with settings in order to get page size back to normal. After several restarts size jumped up to 5500mb and recommended size is 5700mb. Now the size is 1422mb because windows is adjusting it after restarts even though I have selected user-defined size 5000 - 12000mb.
--> This step hasn't helped, internet apps still don't work due to connection error.

I ran memory scan --> no faults found, no help.

I ran CCleaner to analyze --> it gets stuck at 16% at System Windows Log files.

I ran safe mode with network settings --> no help, the same connection error occurs.

What to do? Is the size of Appdata Virtualstore folder somehow linked to the usage of virtual memory page size? I transferred all the files from Virtualstore to program files but that didn't help either.

I suspect the issue has something to do with the virtual memory page size since the laptops performance has for some months been d... Read more

I mainly use KONQUEROR in Linux KDE desktop as my browser now so am un affected with the latest security scares of IE. Now more than ever people should NOT use IE on XP.

(Conspiracy theory here - I just LOVE them. : Maybe Ms PAID some hackers to generate the problem to force people to upgrade quickly -- if 30% of computers are STILL on XP that's a LOT of money for Ms -- a few million dollars out of the back door probably would be money well spent - or "Invested").

Konqueror also gives you the choice of rendering - Webkit or KHTML too.

The recent update of IE has given me this problem. A box at the bottom says that the current settings put my computer at risk and asks, if I want to correct the issue. This happens every second time I open IE.

No matter what I click the settings have been reset - so why ask for my permission?

It's very annoying since I have the settings on "Low" on trusted sites - and that list is very short and exclusive. IE11 resets this to "Medium" which gives me problems on the trusted sites.

Is there an advanced setting that can prevent this from happening - maybe a reg-setting (no GPO since this is a Home-edition and computer is not part of a domain)?

Thanks in advance,

well; if i were you; do not install ie11; as ie11 is really designed for windows 8; and will get rid of any gadgets you have in 7 and cause other problems. I had that problem with 11. I installed it only to find out that my gadgets were gone. To resolve the issue i uninstalled 11 and went back to 10. You should still be able to find 10 on microsoft's site somewhere. As for the security update; make sure it says whether or not its designed for 32 or 64 bit windows 7; as ive had updates come up via the update; that i thought were designed for my version of 7; but ended up being for the other one for some reason. Also; as for it not installing; i would read what the error says and click on more info and see what the page for it shows.

Hi there
some of you using IE11 might find that certain sites now find you can't get to the web page for specific sites --particularly things like LOCAL sites -- I have a Music server which needs to access local host (

What you now need to do is either turn off security enhanced mode in the security settings in the browser or (better) add these sites to the trusted sites also in the security settings.

For those testing Windows 8 with IE10 - you *might* not have to do this immediately but if you start getting "Site cannot be displayed" type of messages after various windows updates then change the settings as in the post (also for IE10 in Windows 7 if you get the same problem).

Just running in compatibility mode or trying to disable ipv6 as suggested on a lot of sites DOESN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. Just add to trusted sites or disable enhanced security (only do that as a last resort).

Enhanced Protection Mode is not activated by default on win-7 and ie10 if that's what your referring to as "enhanced security"
Which deactivating it only resets back to default setting,

Win7 is sending me a lot of warning messages that tell me my new Samsung drive (HD103SJ) is about to fail. I checked the drive with DickCheckup and it didn't report any problems. That utility records data every 10 minutes. I assume that Win7 is getting something from the SMART output and flagging it, but my guess is that the drive is okay as indicated by DiskCheckup. So, I would like to turn off the annoying messages. Is there any way to do that?

FWIW, I have made multiple images of the OS (resides on the Samsung drive) and use the rest of the drive only for backups. If it dies, I can recover.

I have an HP pavilion laptop (not really sure what kind though) and it keeps shutting down out of nowhere even when the batter is fully charged. This is the second time this has happened to me. Last time this happened was last week and a few days later after it shut down it turned on again without any adjustments or recalibrations. It is currently not turning on and I have tried holding down the power button down for a minute without the battery or charger intact and it still wont turn on. However, when I plug in the charger and click the power button the power will turn on for a split second then shut down right away again. Also when I plug in the charger, there is a blinking led light right next to the charger port, but Im not sure what that indicates.

You have a large number of Manifest file problems.

Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from
(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your reply.

Here I am, at the end of one of my greatest game battles, ready to change screens and collect accolades in LoL when I get a popup from Windows saying it wants to close the game due to low memory conditions, OK or CANCEL? OMFG CANCEL! But Nooooooooooooooo, it closes the game client anyway! "Burn in hell", Microsoft, is what I'm, screaming, but that's just a historical footnote, and does not help define the true nature of this request - how to reconfigure this god forsaken new memory management feature.

Now, parameters wise, I understand that Windows 10 can run in as little as 2 GB of RAM, and if you need more memory than is physically available, isn't it the job of the OS to swap something out and make room? Indeed the gaming client is less than 1/2 GB and there are plenty of Chrome windows not in use which can be swapped out, and whilst I can certainly close down every non-gaming window before starting my game, isn't that what the OS is supposed to manage for us?

Now, I could understand if the system slowed down swapping out all the unused applications, though it only needs to swap out enough for the current application to function, but really, I have 16 GB of RAM in addition to video memory on the video adapter, and the memory monitor says I have only used about 15 of it. WAIT - think about that. There's 14 GB of apps that either this crappy Win10 OS is saying I need to manually manage because it can't or 14 GB of idle applications that could all be swapped out... Is there no way in W8.1 to turn off notification sounds for specific apps with annoying notification beeps (in my case FB)?

Everywhere I look, including in this forum, shows me how to turn off notification sound for ALL apps, but I just want to turn it off for SOME apps, those that beep annoyingly and too often. It seems to me that the apps rely on W8.1 for notification sound management, but nowhere do I seem able to turn off the sound for specific apps. Is it me or is it W8.1...?

A:Turn off notification sound for specific apps...?

Hello OppfinnarJocke,

The notification sound is a global setting that can only be completely turned on or off.

If you like, you could turn off showing toast notifications for individual apps though that would effectively no longer have a notification sound afterwards since there will be notification.

I was wondering if someone here knew how to turn off ALL remote access applications and services (the ones for poeple to control your desktop, remote assistance, etc). I know Windows 7 calls itself "trying to make tech support easier" but I have very sensitive information on my computer and I don't want my computer sending out undisclosed guest invitations for anybody to use to connect to my computer and access my personal files. I don't even want tech support connecting without my consent.
I don't want remote assistance now, and probably never will. The only thing I want to stay on "remotely" is Windows error reporting.

Hope someone knows how to do this.

Failed Cumulative Security Update IE11 Win7 Home Prem SP1 x64; Error 80073712
I've been getting this failed update since the Sept 2015 Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 11, but I use Chrome instead since I can't install the security update. I tried to uninstall IE11, using two methods but that didn't work. The IE11 security update failures began with KB3087038 in Sept 2015 and have continued through KB3104002 released in Dec 2015 . Other Windows 7 updates that come up have been successful, except for the update to Windows 10 which also failed, starting in July 2015. I have run the system update readiness tool (took about 20 minutes) and sfc /scannow tool (took about 15 minutes) - it found some unrepairable components which I am uploading here; and also found a list of 9 CSI Manifest Failed Catalog Check items in the CheckSUR file. Eventually I want to update to Windows 10 but am guessing that I may have to fix these files before the upgrade will work. I have pasted the CheckSur file here for quick reference in case this may help. My CBS log zip file after compression is over 1GB so I am not sure what I should do.
If anyone can help me fix this, I would be very grateful!

Hi Everyone,

I am using MalwareBytes Anti-Malware version; which features a 'Malicious Website Protection' feature which I have deliberately disabled. Each time that I restart my computer I see the message below (due to deliberately turning off the 'web protection' features) -

I have followed the instructions at the MalwareBytes website for turning off notifications (Settings > General Settings > Notifications: Diabled) as can be seen below -

Despite turning 'off' notifications I still see the warning message every time that I reboot.

If anybody knows how to turn off the warning message can you please let me know?

Kind Regards,

In February while using my laptop (Alienware M18x r2) it turned off immediately without any warning while it was plugged in to charge. There wasn't any notice that the laptop was going to turn off or that I should plug in the laptop to avoid losing any unsaved data. It won't turn back on with or without the charger. When the charger is plugged into a socket the charger light comes on but charger light it goes off when I plug the charger into the laptop and the laptop won't charge or turn on. I should also mention that the first time I tried to plug in the laptop with the battery still inside there was a spark. I removed the battery, plugged in the charger to the laptop and it sounded like the plug/jack short circuited. I was not using a surge protector at the time. I have no idea why this happened or how to fix it. One recommendation was to replace the spark plug but I'm not convinced that is the problem.

Hello, everyone.  Since April 6 I've been getting warnings from my antivirus (Norton) almost every day and at almost exactly the same time.  Up until yesterday, they were literally only 24 hours and a few seconds apart.  Usually dubbed Trojan.ADH.SMH (an appropriate name, since SMH is what I have been doing all week!), the alert pops up between 5:00 and 6:00 PM Pacific, usually twice in rapid succession.  I have scanned with both Norton and Malwarebytes over the weekend and I came up empty-handed.  Unfortunately, I can't copy and paste Norton's logs, so I'll post screenshots of them instead.
I have Windows 7 Home Premium.
There are a couple of things you should know:
I have no idea if this has anything to do with the alerts, but I am usually playing a game called Roblox when they pop up.  It's a guilty pleasure; the game is meant for kids but there are some good games there.  I don't know why I would be getting the trojans from there.
About a month or two ago, I was re-installing CCleaner, which I hadn't updated in ages.  I was tired and, when I was agreeing to a license stipulation, accidentally agreed to a few other things--crappy programs bundled with CCleaner.  Upon realizing my mistake, Norton announced that it had removed or blocked something from my PC.  I spent the next few minutes uninstalling the programs, one of which was a rogueish antivirus or maybe a registry cleaner that told me I had... A:Why do I have to turn on windows firewall to install apps from store?

The firewall service is required for all "modern" apps to run, including the store. The firewall service actually houses more than just the firewall itself, and you pretty much need to leave it enabled for Windows 8 to function properly. If you aren't using it or don't want to, the proper way to disable firewall functionality is to go into the Windows firewall control panel applet and set the three profiles (domain, public, private) to "off".

This is a problem that I've found a lot on the Internet but have yet to find a solution that works in my case.
I am using Windows 8.1
I cannot download apps from the Store and an error message says that this is due to Windows Firewall not being turned on.
I cannot turn Windows Firewall on because we error message says that it cannot change some of my settings. (Side note: I am using Avast but even when this is turned on I get the same message from the Store)
I cannot start it manually as I get an error message there too (I'll update with exact wording later as I'm currently on my phone)
I am also completely unable to restore to factory settings or create any recovery media.
I have done comprehensive virus scans and have absolutely no issues in that sense.
I have reset Internet Explorer (apparently to reset my connection) to no avail.
I've tried every solution I've found online and I'm just stumped. Help would be deeply appreciated.

The Problem:
The July 2016 Cumulative Security Update for IE11 (KB3170106) Update Fails to Install, giving Error code 80073712. All other updates installed successfully.

AFAIK no malware or other suspicious symptoms, besides a random CHKDSK on boot up a few days / week ago, where it had to repair a tonne of file indexes etc. Could be related, otherwise all seems fine.

Operating System:
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1.

Fully updated besides KB3170106 (This update. Fails) and KBs 2952664, 3021917, 3068708 and 3080149, which I have hidden (Just telemetry crap I believe?).

What I've Tried:
? CHKDSK (Now comes back clean). - Log Attached.

? SFC /Scannow (Detects errors, unable to repair). Also tried this from Safe Mode, and the Repair Mode Command Prompt on my Windows Boot disk, same result. - Log Attached.

? System Update Readiness Tool - (Detects errors, unable to repair) - Log Attached.

? Downloading 2 of the updates that errored in SURT, placed them in Windows\CheckSur\packages directory, which fixed two of the error lines, but still many errors left, as well as errors with the .mum and .cat files of those are updates still present. (This one is strange as one of the updates is KB2952664 which I had hidden and NOT installed..). The log I have attached is from a re-run after this one.

? Downloading the KB3170106 update manually - Still errors. (Said successful once, but obv wasn't).

HI there

I have only had my laptop 6 months, and I recently got a nasty virus on it that shut everything down. I managed to salvage it and it now works OK, problem is that since the virus I cannot run downloaded exe files. A windows security box pops up and says 'These files can't be opened. Your Internet Security settings prevented one or more files from being opened.'.

The virus I had was a fake antivirus that installed itself on my laptop and stopped task manager and other stuff from working. This is all now fixed and its just this downloading problem.

I have tried changing all security settings to low and this doesn't work. I also tried custom levels and ensured all downloading was enabled. Finally I tried checking it all in the registry by going to Internet Settings and ensuring that 1803 was set to 0 and it was in both local machine and current user.

Can anyone help as I'm really stuck now.

Hello jencarr,

Welcome to SevenForums!

Have you re-scanned your laptop (with Malwarebytes or your AV) if there are still any remnants of the virus?

It's much better to backup your files and then do a repair install (or a fresh, clean install). Such damage has been done to your PC by the virus, making it unstable and restoring your PC's normal, stable and healthy state would surely be very exhausting.

I downloaded the file by pressing Run on the window that popped up, and then Run again, there are usually two windows when I download something from the internet. After it was downloaded, there was an icon in the quick launch bar by the clock and when I clicked on it, a woman with an eat-Indian (I think) accent said there was something wrong with my computer and a little window popped up that said something, I don't remember. I opened the Task Manager and ended the task, so it went away, and out of the quick launch bar. There really seemed to be no side-effects. A little while later after scanning with expired Spy Sweeper, expired Spy Subtract trial, Norton Internet Security up to date trial and McAffe Anti-Spy from Yahoo Toolbar, I turned off my computer. When I turned it back on, XLG Security Center came back up, after I put in my administrator's password, with the same woman and short message. This was before 31 of the about 65 processes were initiated on my computer so there wasn't even a toolbar at the bottom of my screen with the start menu or the icons on the backscreen. I then unplugged the power from my modem, opened Task Manager and opened one or two of those useless spy scanners, but I think it was when I ended the task of XLG was when it finally went away again. The computer was turned off later and when I turned it back on the same EXACT story to the very last detail, except this time to get rid of it, I right-clicked on XLG Securtity Center as it ... This issue has been pointed out but mixed inside a bunch of posts. In the latest fast ring build 19476, it is worse and does not stop on its own. The major symptom is that the screen cursor on the desktop will flash a blue ring every second or two. Also the CPU usage is up around 8-10% while just idling. Task manager shows that the wsappx> appXSCV is using up the CPU cycles.
The solution is to turn off the Background Apps in the privacy button in settings. I think the new builds turn it back on every time there is an update in the fast ring.

here is the tutorial:

For FTP download, FileZilla will resume on servers that support it. Search the big freeware sites like Softpedia, Snapfiles,, FileHippo etc..

Just search on terms you want like "download" "resume" and "client" and the protocols you want such as torrent ftp etc..

I have 7 email accounts on our Exchange server for different business and personal roles.  I have always used OWA instead of Outlook to segregate accounts on my desktop.  For quick logins I have been using "Keyboard Express"
Macro program  to insert USER and PASSWORD into OWA.   With some update applied in December 2015, Keyboard Express no long works on most of my Macro hotkeys because the IE hotkeys have taken precedence.  Such as ALT-H and other.
This same think happened to IE11 when I ran the Windows 10 upgrade 2 months ago, so I restored Win7 with a disk image to get rid of Window 10.
Is there a way to assign precedence between a Macro Program and IE11 Hotkeys ?

anyone seen this one?
on booting up 8.1, lenovo z410, the first few attempts to use IE11 from the desktop fail. "cannot open page".
connection troubleshooter produces nothing.

go to APPS > IE and it works fine.

after using chrome and the tile app for awhile, IE11-Desktop will gain coherency and start working.

is there a way to reinstall the desktop side?

this is a clean install with little/nothing loaded on it, about to be deployed for real work so its important.
I've never seen this issue before on 7/8 so kinda lost/bewildered

A:IE11 Desktop fails connection. IE11 Tile App succeeds

Maybe can not get that page immediately, try setting blank page for start-up. (about:blank) and than as a start page.

I am a Windows XP user who just got a new computer with Windows 7. I seem to be having trouble understanding how to do some things I was doing in XP. I think it may be security-related, but being new to Windows 7, I could be wrong.

I regularly download documents in .jpg format from a web site. I select the document and click the Save button on the web site. I get a Save As box where I select where to save the file, and save it. In XP, I had setup a folder on the C: drive specifically for these files. I created the same folder in Win7. I went through the same process and selected the folder in the Save As process, but got an error "You don't have permission to save in this location....Would you like to save in the My Pictures location instead?". I clicked Yes. When I opened Windows Explorer and looked at My Pictures, the file wasn't there. I went back to the web site and saved the document again. However, the file appeared in the Save As box, and I was asked if I wanted to overwrite the file. Again, when I looked in Explorer, it didn't show the file. I even tried searching the entire C: drive, it says the file doesn't exist.

I am the only user account on my machine and have Admin privileges. I use IE8 with security set at medium-high. UAC setting is one below Always Notify. I looked at the properties on the folder I wanted to use, my Admin account has full rights. I set my regular user account to have full rights, but this did nothing to fix the... Read more

I was trying to download a game and got this computer security scheme instead.  It is called internet security and does not allow me to open firefox, IE or any other program.  It says that they all have a virus and that, if I sign up for their service and pay them money, they can take care of it.  I have tried going into programs on my comp and deleting them but it does not show up on there. Any help appreciated.

Good Afternoon,

I am running into issues trying to upgrade to IE11. It looks like there are several issues in my CheckSUR Log, but I am not sure how to fix them. I have ran SFC /scannow a couple times and no errors have been identified. I have been having this problem for a couple months now and have just been using Chrome. I have also had several issues with the Aero Effects and Themes as I have to troubleshoot that multiple times a day.
I am receiving error code '3FD' from Windows Update regarding IE11.

Attached is my log.

Thank you in advance for your help!

A:IE11 Update/Install Issue - Trying to Upgrade to IE11

hello and welcome skohon now personally I would download IE11 Download Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 from Official Microsoft Download Center - it says on my machine I already have it if yours does the there is something quite wrong.

If it is not on your machine then you save the above to downloads and then do what is in this Install or uninstall Internet Explorer - Windows Help

I have done this myself on odd occasions and it saves you having to muck around with updates.

First you might like to run this though in safe mode if necessary
Disk Check and run the /f and /r switches if necessary.

Hi: I'm hoping anyone can help me with this annoyance. I've tried searching everywhere to find out what part of Windows Vista is responsible for this; and if there is anyway to disable it. The only thing l could locate was a JavaScript file that would run through a designated folder file by file and remove the block from that file's properties. While helpful as doing that task manually is very time-consuming, it still involves fighting the systemís automatic processes needlessly, in my opinion.
I've been running Windows Vista for over a year now, and do not recall ever needing this unblock process until a few months ago when trying to install an upgrade download file for Trend Micro's Virus Software. After unsuccessfully attempting install repeatedly, and even running install as administrator unsuccessfully, even though my profile is actually set as admin, I happened upon the file properties pane via Windows Explorer. In the attributes section of the general tab where normally the only things I've seen included those file attribute check boxes & a button labeled "advanced". Now, anything I download, whether off the internet, home network, or direct connection, has an attribute for security set to block. There is a button labeled unblock" and a text comment as follows: "This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer."

Since finding this, and unblocking the file before using it... Read more

whenever i try to download something, program or game, i get this box that pops up and does not allow me to do anything.

i tried going to tools-internet settnigs-security and clicked on restore defaults and still get the same thing. i did not mess with any settings.

i did however have a problem that led up to is the back story.

the past few days every now and then i would get a pop up from AVG saying there was some sort of infection, so i would try to heal or send to vault then it would say the file did not exsist.

so i then tried to run a sypware scan, i think that i got originally from here, it said it needed to download the latest version, so when i did that is when i first got the above error and it would not let me run that download. so i just ray the spybot.

i did still get a pop up after running that, but haven't again for a few hours now........but still cannot download anything.

thanks in advance for any help!

my computer has been running slow lately and sometimes pages take forever to load and i have to hit refresh a few times for it to work, i just thought it was due to moving and having to go with a local cable internet service instead of road runner through time warner.....i don't know if that has any bearing here or not, just thought i would let you know, that may be a seperate post/help

Recently, I have been getting a message saying "your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded" and does not let me download the file.

Lately this has become a major issue for alot of internet users, because when i search it up on google, the number of questions are crazy.

Unfortunately, all the answers left to help the person never work for me. I have tried about everything, from lowering down my firewall, to trying to change my registry.

If this question has been asked many times before in this forum, I'm sorry to post another one,but for some reason the search button on the website was not working for me.

Since you guys have solved my problems before,i am counting on your for help again!

If you need more details, ask me anything, because the earlier this problem is over, the better.

A:Your Current Security Settings Do Not Allow This File To Be Downloaded Popup

Try this and see if it helps. If it does you will have to decide if you want to disable the security that it gives you for the convenience of downloading what you want.

Go to your user settings and under the UAC (User Account Control) uncheck the box and I beleive you may have to reboot.
See if you still get the messages. If you do, then you may want to go back and select it again.

Call me stupid, but after downloading a torrent avi divx video file, I tried to play it when it prompted me to update my DRM or security for Windows Media Player. The error code is C00D2728 but this reminds me of a spyware attempt to install through a backdoor in WMP.

Am I being paranoid? It doesn't make any sense. Since I'm using the k-lite pack and registered DIVX video file, wtf is it updating?

I think something is off with this file - trojan?

Anyways, I'm deleting it.

Am having a real headache with the recent Windows IE7 security patch KB928090. When trying to install it, the laptop gets a memory error (tries to locate a unavailable memory address); then this totally locks everything up (requires shutting it down with the on/off button). I am trying to find and remove the downloaded patch (as the Update Manager sees this and thinks of it as ready to install). I want to remove it and try to download it again. Does anyone have any idea when the darn thing is located while it is waiting to be installed. Have had no luck searching the web, microsoft or serching the HD myself.

System is a 6 month old Dell Inspiron 9400 Intel T7400 dual processor, Windows XP Pro, 2 GB memory, 120 GB HD. It doesn't perform as well as expected but it's OK. Have had no problems with it until now.

So. . . where the heck are the downloaded Windows Updates stored on the HD before they are installed? Any ideas? Help would be greatly appreciated. Or maybe I should ask if it is even possible to remove a downloaded patch before it is installed?

A:Solved: How to remove corrupted downloaded IE7 security patch

By poking around without much help from Microsoft Support I found if I used the Microsoft Update website instead of Windows Update, I was able to actually re-download over the corrupted one and install the security patch. It installed fine. I tried this also with the Windows Update website and it would only try to install the corrupted patch already downloaded to my HD. This seems a little weird but at least the problem is rectified.

I have a number of .mht files created some time ago (approx 2 years) with IE11 (.mht files are a specific IE format for saving a web page as a single file).
Now IE11 won't work with these files. IE just gives the message "Internet Explorer has stopped working".
But if I load the files onto an old XP machine (with IE7), they load absolutely fine.
I'm guessing that some (security) changes have been made to IE11 that have affected its workings.
I've googled for a solution / ideas, but no joy. Anyone here got any thoughts?

I was browsing a webpage and got a security warning pop-up box. A screen shot of the pop-up is attached. Is this a Win 7 security warning? I don't think it's an ESET Smart Security 7 security warning. I suspect it's a malware trick.

Thank you for your assistance.

Well, every warning about unsigned drivers I ever remember seeing went more along the lines of "Windows can't verify the publisher ......." etc. So offhand I'd agree with you about it being a malware trick. Have you ran your malware and A/V scans yet?

During my usual microsoft updates I got the new Internet Explorer 8 and I was ok with that at first. however lately I have been getting an irritating secutity warning that shows up every time I try and open an e mail.
It asks: "Do you want to view only the webpage content that was delivered securely ? "
" This webpage contains content that will not be delivered using a secure HTTPS connection, which could
compromise the security of the entire webpage. "
Is there any way to clear this warning so that it dosent pop up every time I go to open an e-mail ? I have tried to change various settings, to no avail. And it shows up on both my XP and Vista operating systems. It seems to be tied in with the smartscreen filter some how. I just can't seem to be able to remove it
Any thoughts would be helpful.

It is not related to the smart screen filter.

I've receivec it before and I don't have such enabled.

The security information is invalid or has been modified. This program will be terminated.

Once I hit ok (my only option) I don't see anything shut down. There is no program name so I have no clue to what it is referring too. The only problem I am having is with Incredimail but not too sure if the two are related. I will post about my incredimail problem in the correct forum but figured I should mention it just in case.

I've not seen this error, but you might try this:
When the error message appears, open tast manager and switch to processes tab. Look for the process that disappears from the list when you hit OK in the warning window. This might get you an idea of the application that generates the message.
