Browser partially freezes when outlook.com page is open...

Q: Browser partially freezes when outlook.com page is open...

I am on IE 11 and have been since it was released. Also, I open 4 tabs when IE starts, outlook.com being one of them. I've been doing this for a few years.

Starting within the last couple of months I started experiencing various "could not access, try again later", "page not found" errors, random long delays and, worst of all, the browser would get into a state where it would not refresh any pages - when the tab is selected or even when refresh is selected while the tab's address is being displayed. When in that state, if I click on another tab it will highlight that tab and its URL will be displayed in the address bar but it won't change the page being displayed. The only thing I can do at that point is to open the task manager and kill IE and start over.

About the only time it has happened when I was actively doing something with the browser was when it was on the outlook page/tab. The rest of the time it occurs after I have been doing nothing for 5-10 minutes or have been away from the outlook page that long.

I have disabled Norton Security Suite -- a/v and firewall -- and it made no difference. I then tried the Google Chrome browser but it would do the same thing.

As I said, this has been going on for a couple of months and during that time I have come more and more to suspect that its related to the outlook site. About a week ago it quit displaying the outlook page unless I disabled the Norton toolbar. But, again as I said earlier, completely removing Norton did not change the random semi-freezing symptom.

Since more and more things were starting to point to the outlook site I removed it as one of my home page tabs and quit using the browser to read my email. The semi-freeze symptom has not reoccurred. Since the problems first started it has never gone this long without "page freezing".

I've googled this issue and have found a lot of similar/related threads but none of them have ended with an aha moment and a solution.

Is anyone familiar with this issue and what I need to do [besides quitting using web mail] to fix the problem?

Thanks in advance...

Hi use this awesome free tool,
Temp files delete,
Run this as administrator and Start the scanner,
Shut your machine down after it finishes,
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/files/file/187-tfc-temp-file-cleaner-by-oldtimer/

Anything that happens with all browsers is most likely third party security related interference,
I tested briefly will continue to see if it occurs on my end but not able to replicate the stalling/ freezing yet,
If the above temp file delete utility does not make any difference,
Open ie,
Use Alt+TO or Gear symbol/ Safety delete browser history,
General section/ Check the box to delete browser history on exit,
Delete browser history button,
Uncheck everything and delete. only the top section is actually deleted on exit nothing else.
Save or apply and okay your way out,
Close and re-open ie and test again,
Cheers.

I do not know how this forum works, but I am trying to find out why MS Outlook freezes when Chrome browser is open. No problem when IE is open.

A:Outlook freezes when Chrome browser is open

chrome is beta software, there are still bugs in it that needs to be worked out - including the problems you are having.

My only suggestion would be to make sure your chrome install is up to date.

I have FF 17. The mouse is freezing in facebook & I find the only escape to release the browser is reboot. The same FB page works fine in internet explorer.

A:FireFox - mouse & browser& browser freezes in Facebook page

Try CTRL+Alt+DELETE or ALT+F4 to turn the Browser off ... I have no idea why this is happening. Might be a bug in FF 17. Was it there in FF 16?

My company recently switched payroll companies and as such we have to punch in and out using a virtual timecard on the payroll companies website. In order not to forget to punch, I have used windows task scheduler to open the browser to the site at windows
login and at 4:30pm (End of Day). Sometimes when 4:30 roll around, the browser opens, but I have a number of programs and browser windows open and the new window gets lost in the shuffle. How can I force the window to open on top of other windows?

Thank you very much for your help. Here is the gist of my problem:

When I open a browser(IE7 Vista SP1), it initially freezes for about 30 seconds before opeining my home page(Google). I can see the progress bar at the bottom of the window just get a little green and then it freezes. Once it lets go and I do my search, it takes me to the results page. However, when I click on one of the items, it very slowly, takes me to an advertisement page. Most of which I have never seen before. If I click on the back button, sometimes it will let me go back, sometimes not. If I can go back and I click on the results again, it then takes me to the correct page. I have not noticed any other ill effects from whatever it is that has infected my computer. Thanks again for your help. I have pasted and attached the 3 files you requested from the programs you asked me to run.

A:[SOLVED] Browser freezes upon opening then goes to an advertisement page

Bump PLEASE!

4 Days old now. I am in a bad way trying to use the internet.

I have an update to my problem. I have apparently somehow disabled part of the hijack. It now no longer takes me to an alternate page but now it completely freezes my browser for several minutes before releasing it to go to the page I requested. Also, I am now required to click twice on links in Google before it will go to them.

I have a LAN connection through ATT. and have not been able to connect to the internet with 2 desk top machines that I have , I do not have any problem connecting with a lop top. The only difference is that the desk tops were once on dial-up. Could something be disabled and preventing the page opening? I was on the phone with an att tech for over an hour last night to no avail. We went through a series of command prompts associated with the ip address.
A connection is shown in the systray at the bottom of the screen but the page will not open. The error is: Internet Explorer could not open this page. Any help would be appreaciated

A:IE browser will not open the page

Some persons use the terms "LAN" and "NIC" interchangeably when referrring to a device which allows for connection to the Internet and (also) functioning as part of a network.Sooo...first question is...do you have a home network setup? Are you using a router to connect your computers to this Internet cable connection provided by ATT?Are the connection settings on each of the systems...the same? To see the connection settings, right-click on the connection, select Properties.http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/n...onnections.mspxLouisDialup setups (at any time) have nothing to do with how cable/DSL/broadband setups function. Are you saying that you cannot open any webpage?

Hi folks,
I'd appreciate any advice.

I have Windows Vista (SP1) and IE 7.
Luckily I also downloaded Firefox.
Because I'd been having some IE problems.
I am using a secondary User - because I did not want to connect to the internet as Administrator.

Yesterday IE hung and I had to ALT+CNTL+DEL and end process (because application would not end).
Since then here is what happens:

I open IE and my default page "mostly" comes up (AOL), but it is TOTALLY FROZEN; nothing can be done - TOOLS won't work, cannot change the page, etc It becomes totally unresponsive.

I tried rebooting - no help.
I logged off and signed on as the Administrator.
I have a different default page, so when I opened IE there, it opened, but as soon as I entered www.aol.com it frozen. So I killed the app with A+C+D.

I opened IE and tried Manage Add-Ons. Then I was able to open the AOL.com page.
Sothen I logged on as the user again, and again IE freezes immediately.

Any ideas?
?Can I change the default without opening IE (since the default pg might be the problem)?

Do I have to reload IE?
Do I need to save my bookmarks, before I do?

Thanks,
CAK

Hello,
Yesterday I upgraded from IE 9 to IE 10 on Win7 32-bit.  Today I noticed if I am in the GUI of any of our Sonicwall Firewalls, and I mouse over an item and a popup comes up, IE freezes.  In about 15 seconds at the bottom of the page I get the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
is not responding - Recover webpage.  I select Recover and I get back to the page.  I can navigate fine until my mouse goes over a comment ballon or statics ballon.  Then it freezes.
This is really annoying.  Never had this problem with IE 9.  I am hoping it is a setting I can adjust in IE 10.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi HJT,Sorry about the long description, I'm trying to put all the details here.My desktop (Win XP pro, SP 3) recently seemed to have some big issues. Last week after using some programs and having the browser open for sometime, the computer froze. I had to restart many times and it kept happening. Then I started an AV scan with Trend Micro. The scan got stuck at one particular file (some file that was created before this happened with I compiled some VC++ program). So, I thought that file might be infected and I cut and pasted that file elsewhere. Then again the scan get stuck at another file in the same directory. If I kept the scan on for some more time the computer again froze. If I didn't include this directory in the folders to be scanned, the AV scanner doesn't show any progress at all - gets stuck at 0% progress. When I try to scan for spyware etc. using Ad-Aware or Spybot the computer again froze. So, I restarted the computer in Safe mode and did the virus scan, but the same result. I also tried to scan using AVG scanner (of course uninstalling Trend Micro), but for the same outcome - froze after some time (few hours with AVG).After reading in some forums, I found few external AV scanning programs like Clamwin, McAfee stinger. Clamwin finally found one Trojan userinit. But it seemed like it didn't remove the file since, I could see the file. Then I found that it is a system process, so I was foolish enough and scanned using ComboFix so that it might restore the file ... Read more

before it show the web page i had to insert the username and password in "Web Authentication" page by cisco (https://1.1.1.1/login.html) setup by my college web technician..

the main problem is when i open the web browser...it's not automatically open that "Web Authentication" page..so i had to bookmark this https://1.1.1.1/login.html link then when i open the browser i had to type this https://1.1.1.1/login.html in the address bar so i can open this link...if i do not type this https://1.1.1.1/login.html link the browser will continue loading until it shown the "Problem loading page"...

i hope you guys can help me to solve this problem so that my browser can automatically open the https://1.1.1.1/login.html link without trouble me to type the link...i think this problem is caused by the eset antivirus...is there any solution without to remove eset antivirus...

sorry for bad english..

A:Web Authentication page not automatically open by web browser

I doubt it has much to do with eset, and everything to do with all of Cisco's software that colleges use to make you log in to the network sucking eggs. The easiest thing to do in XP (which is what I assume to be the main OS you're using based on the screen shot) is to either make the login page your homepage or add a short cut to it on your desktop. You should be able to just drag and drop the link from your favorites/bookmarks to the desktop.

Hello,

My sister-in-law asked me to take a look at her HP notebook because she said she had a virus.

I have performed a full virus scan with AVG as well as scans with Spybot and Ad-aware.

It acts like it is pretty much clean now, however...

After you start the computer and try to load IE or Firefox, either browser just hangs there and doesn't load a page. After a moment or two, it is completely locked up. I can kill the browser process and reopen it and usually after repeating this 5 or 6 times, it will start working and appear to be relatively normal.

Any help would be appreciated. She can't find her recovery cd, so reinstalling will likely not be an option. Thanks.

I have a dell latitude d505 which was running good, a few months ago I had to have it repaired as it needed a new hard drive, along with that windows xp was reinstalled.

I didn't have a problem until last night, it was left running for an hour or so doing nothing, when i come back it froze on me. Since then I have realised it will only freeze when you try to open a browser(firefox or ie).

I ran a full virus scan using avast which found nothing at all. Im almost certain there are no viruses on it.

Looking around on the net I found another problems similar to mine and it was suggested he press f12 when booting up and run diagnostics. I did this but it comes up with "No dell diagnostic partition found". Im not sure if this has anything to do with it?? I tried to reinstall a few network drivers from dell website but absolutely no difference. Is it a hardware problem??

Thanks in advance

Whoever reinstalled Windows for you probably formatted the entire disk, wiping out the Dell recovery partition. Never mind - you don't need it for just one problem.

Whilst opening a page in Firefox or IE, right click the Taskbar and click on Task Manager. Click the Processes tab and then the box at the head of the column marked CPU. That should bring to the top, the process using the most resources so note which those are and post the details back here.

I don't use IE, I use Opera portable
It was not registered as the default browser which it is now,
Clinking on web links within applications (help & support links for example) opens the browser ok, but only to my start page, not to the intended web page.
Also, when I click on a HTML file, it does the same thing. Opens the browser to the start page, not the file.

It's not recognizing the link or the file.

I went through the URL Associations etc. in the registry and they all point to Opera. Protocols point to Opera also. I was successful the 1st time I tried this, but I don't remember exactly how that was different that this time. (I had to load a recent backup image for other unrelated problems left over from a bloated program I couldn't clean out).

Any ideas??

A:Home page hijack and popups when browser not open

Hi gundy1976

Welcome to TSG!

Click here to download CWShredder. UnZip the file, close all browser windows and click on the cwshredder.exe then click "Fix" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.

When it is finished Restart your computer.

To help prevent this from happening again, I strongly recommend you install the patches for the vulnerabilities that this hijacker exploits.

The simplest way to make sure you have all the security patches is to go to Windows update and install all "Critical Updates and Service Packs"

Come back here and post another Hijack This log and we'll get rid of what's left.

Hello everybody.

I can't load any microsoft account login page in any browser on my laptop (running windows 8.1). Whether it is outlook, one drive, microsoft support forums, etc. Each time I try to load the login page I get the following errors:

In firefox: The connection was reset
In IE: This page cannot be displayed
In chrome: This webpage is not available

It was working up until yesterday, then all of sudden in the middle of the afternoon I couldn't access any microsoft login page.

As far as I can tell, these are the only pages that can't load. MSN works fine, any microsoft site works fine (outside of the login part of course). All other sites I have tried work just fine.

However, I can access my email in the Mail app that comes standard in windows 8.1 as well as on my android phone. Furthermore, I don't think that it is an ISP problem as I can easily access those pages on an old desktop computer I have and on my phone. It seems to be an issue with my laptop specifically.

I have tried restarting the computer (multiple times) and clearing the cache and cookies (multiple times).

If I can't fix this, I'm probably going to reinstall windows, but I really would like to save myself all the trouble that comes with that, especially since it's just one page that I can't get to load.

I really need help figuring this out. Any help and input would be greatly appreciated.

I've been working on this for an entire day and searched high and low on the internet for an understandable solution to this issue, so I finally give up!

When I click on an email link on the internet, I get a message saying that that function could not be performed because my default mail client has not been either configured or installed properly.

I have unset and reset my default mail client options already, and I have attempted to find the mailto protocol I've seen on so many pages, but I can't find it through Windows Explorer. I tried to create URL:MailTo protocol as directed on some pages, but A) not sure I did it right, and B) it's still not working.

I've tried to follow various directions, as I did from this page:

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/MailtoProtocol.htm

but when I try to follow the directions, I get all kinds of roadblocks (i.e., that the owner can't be changed, that I can't replace permission entries on all child objects, etc., etc., etc).

I'm exasperated! This can't be that difficult. Any hope in sight that doesn't require a computer science degree??

Thanks!
Sheryl

Ok. I will try to give you all the info I can.Half of the time when starting up my computer I get through the Windows XP loading screen, then I get a black screen with a cursor. Have to hit the power button and try booting up again (sometimes SEVERAL times...) then finally it will start up...I deleted some things in my temp folder. Weird EXE files and TMP files such as 115.exe, HTDivx.exe, ICACHE-04044202.tmp, etc...~ I have Windows XP Media Center Edition. For the past several days, the MSN page I have used for start up has initially shown itself in full, but when the startup is complete, the middle 2/3 of the screen is erased, leaving blue banner line segments across the top. This problem has been consistent since it began.

I use Win 7 with all the updates, Norton protection suite. This system is over 2 years old, including a significant equipment upgrade.

I have been able to use Explorer and MSN comes on fine.

I have tinkered with the tools and settings process in Chrome, and find nothing that makes a difference.

I have sent messages to Chrome, but got the no personal response answer.

I suspect there is a bug in my system aimed at microsoft.

Can anyone help me get to the tools that will find this bug, kill it, avoid for the future? I have too many established links on this browser to enjoy changing browsers. Of course, if that is the most efficient way to go, so be it. Thanks for the help.

Before I began this thread I have searched all my posts because I am certain I asked this question somewhere at some point in the past. But I cannot find it here so here goes:

I have Windows 7, IE11, all updates. I only have IE11 since a week or 2. Before that I had IE7 (!!!)

Anyway, before this IE change happened, when I would open a new tab for a new browser window, it would come up with 2 rows of 5 logo's of websites that I visit frequently. In those boxes, under the name, there was a little colored bar, depicting the percentage of my time spend on that particular website.

I want that back. I have searched in all know to me places but I can not find it. Can anyone perhaps point me where that option is to choose?

Thank you very much in advance.

Milli.

A:When I open a new browser, I want the new page show the names of much visited sites.

It's not even 10 minutes ago that I posted my question.

After posting I opened a new tab and..... Bazinga!!! Here were the 10 little boxes that have been looking for! It's magic! I don't know if I inadvertently changed any setting, if I did, I cannot remember which one or where. But it is back! Yeah!!!!!

So thank you for reading, and if you can tell me how this happened I would still appreciate it.

Kind regards,

Hey .. hoping someone can help me out here. I have spent 2-3 hours so far trying different things, to no avail.

I have a Sony laptop running Win XPP and Outlook 2007. I was watching a youtube video today (with Outlook open) and the machine froze up and shut down (very unusual as this machine used to run flawlessly until now). Windows booted back up without an issue and everything was fine until I tried to open Outlook. When attempting to run the program it partially opens (I get the Outlook 2007 screen but thats it) and then an hourglass appears and nothing happens. I left it for 15 minutes and nothing. I tried running Outlook in Safe Mode but the same thing happened. I tried running the machine in Windows Safe Mode and then open Outlook and the same thing happened. I have also tried to run SCANPST on the PST file but it is very large (4.8GB) and it seems as though nothing is happening. It has been sitting at Initializing for 30 mins and it is at Phase 0 of 8. The machine works perfectly fine when doing anything else (IE - running programs, performing tasks etc)

My email is extremely important because it is my small businesses email so I keep everything in there. I attempted to save the PST to an external hard drive immediately after this shutdown happened but as soon as I even right click on the PST file the machine freezes.

My uneducated guess is that when the machine shutdown (Outlook was open at the time) it did not close the program properly and that is why I am havin... Read more

A:trying to open outlook ... machine freezes

Once I had a similar issue. It was an email virus, and it could activate itself because Outlook had the Reading Pane open. So when I received the infected email, it was instantly opened, and the virus was activated and caused my PC to freeze.
Also, because it was the newest message in my list, it was always on the top, so it was opened every single time I started the Outlook program.

If you had the Reading Pane enabled, it is possible that you have the same problem. In this case, I would try to open the backup copy of the PST file in another PC with Outlook installed, AFTER making sure that the Reading Pane is disabled. Lest you infect the other PC too.
If you are able to open the PST file, and find a suspicious email, delete it. Also, do a thorough virus scan on your laptop.

OK guys, this is driving me crazy, I have two clients that have this issue. When they click any hyperlink in outlook 2003, it takes them to their home page, and if you hover your mouse pointer over it, it sais "blocked" then the web address. I searched for about three hours on google, and here is what I have done so far. One article suggested going into the Tools/Folder Options/File types from explorer, then selecting the [NONE] Internet Shortcut, and then checking settings there, which are all correct. I have rolled back to IE6, still opens only the home page. Checked for settings in Outlook Express 2003 everywhere, etc. I am really stumped and any help would surely be appreciated, here is some more info about this users computer.

I am using Outlook 2003 with Vista Home Professional and Internet Explorer.

All of a sudden, when I click on a hyperlink in Outlook, it takes me to my Internet Explorer home page rather than to where it is supposed to.

I have seen several posts on this subject in this forum and have tried them all without success. I started with the "cancelled due to restrictions on this computer" message, fixed that but then it started opening up the home page. I uninstalled Office and reinstalled it and then when I clicked on the hyperlink, it opened the Local Link Browser. Fixed that, but now I am back to the hyperlink opening up the home page.

This all started because my computer was running extremely slowly. Painfully slow. I found that the cause of the slowness was Google Chrome files that were left behind after I uninstalled it. Somehow in the process of cleaning up those files, I must have done something that affected Outlook and hyperlinks.

Any ideas? I was sure that reinstalling Office would fix the problem, but it hasn't.

Again, I have tried editing the registry, setting IE as my default browser. I have also looked at file associations. Nothing works. I do not have Firefox installed as was noted in several of the posts that were similar to what I am experiencing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Twice this week, either when I unplugged & replugged USB devices or when I simply moved the computer while it was on to access wires behind it it "partially froze".

What I mean is that the mouse and keyboard (and apparently all USB devices) stop working, but the computer seems to still be "conscious" (the HDD light keeps flashing).

What could be causing this? I've had and moved the same computer for 2-3 years and it never did this before.

Could it possibly be my video card or one of the other expansion cards that isn't secure and losing contact with the motherboard when I move the computer causing wires to tug on the cards? Would that cause the symptoms I described?

Thanks

A:Computer partially freezes when I physically move it

With time, corrosion occurs on contacts. Also, after several heating and cooling cycles (i.e., when the system is powered on and off) contacts also can loosen. Go through the system and one-by one unseat/unplug then reseat/replug everything but the CPU and heatsink. This will remove any slight corrosion and also ensure a tight connection. Check your cable routing too to see if anything is tightly-bent and kinked, shorting out (look for any unused power or data connectors and ensure that there is no bare metal contacting bare metal), or under stress from a cable or component hanging down. Use zip ties to tie cables out of the way in order to ensure that they don't block airflow and that their weight places no stress on connectors.

Can I add OPENED PHOTOS into the Body of an E-mail message which I want to send in Microsoft Outlook 2007. (Not Outlook Express) That is the program I am required to use in the hosted exchange server in which I am enrolled.

That is, I do not want to send Attachments, but rather, want to have the photos already opened when the recipient receives the message.

A:Can I add OPEN PHOTOS within OUTLOOK 2007 E-MAIL MESSAGE PAGE?

-- That is possible

-- Open the picture/Photo that you want to send it. Take a screenshot of the photo

To take screenshot:

-- On top right corner of the keyboard, you can see print screen(prt scr) button, normally next to F12 button. Press this button once this will make copy of your current screen contents

-- Open paint program, press CTRL+V to paste the copied content using Print screen button

-- Now click select tool and select the portion of the photo that you want to send.

-- Press CTRL + C to copy the selection.

-- Press CTRL + V in body of the outlook Email.

You are doneeeee...

Easy way to take screen shot without quality damage is using ScreenHunter that I mostly use. Below have pasted the link from where you can get free copy and install it. Need to press F6 to capture the screen.

I click on a mailto: hyperlink (someones email address link) either in email or on a web page and it opens up a blank Internet Explorer page instead of a new email page in outlook.

I have vista ultimate 64 and run office outlook 07. I can see outlook has its self checked as default program. I?ve already previously gone into what?s listed below but Microsoft Outlook does not show up in the list to select as a default program?
1. Open Default Programs by clicking the Start button and then clicking Default Programs.
2. Click Set your default programs.
3. Under Programs, click the e‑mail program you'd like to use, and then click Set this program as default.
4. Click OK.

I?ve also tried to associate a default program but that list doesn?t give you a mailto: protocol to associate with.

.... and I've restarted my PC since trying to change and go through everything and outlook has asked me if I'd like it to be my default email program and I've selected yes, still browser email address links open up blank IE instead of new mail page in outlook.... it sh!ts me!

I've noticed though google search that this is quite a common issue. I don't know if my solution will fix other peoples but I was able to fix it by installing IE9, after a restart outlook opened up a new page when I clicked on a mailto hyperlink. Yay!

Hello Everyone,

although I just registered, I have used bleepingcomputer.com as a reference many times before.  I also have located and removed Viruses/Malware with hijackthis before.

However, this time I am totally lost.  This problem is on my Sony Vaio laptop with i5 and 8GB RAM. I run it on normal power without battery installed.  It is on a cabled Lan.  It is not part of a domain.  The system used to work fine until Thursday.

Symptoms:
I first noticed problems on my laptop Thursday (2 days ago) around noon, when I could not start PlanetSide 2.  I have been working on this problem ever since.
The computer will freeze (sometimes totally, sometimes just certain apps) every 3 or 4 minutes for 10-30 seconds.  Whichever application is in focus will be marked "no response" if I click it.   This can happen in any app.  But the system will never crash or blluescreen.
Web access is the worst problem.  I usually use Firefox with Chrome as a backup and Opera as secondary backup.  None of the three browsers really work.  Google is partly accessible, but that's about it.  I can do a search, wait 30-60 seconds for the results. When I click in the search results, it will never load, although it says "connecting".  I cannot reach speedtest.net, nor any other websites (e.g. ibm.com, facebook.com)
I can use ftp to download from the internet, like an ubuntu-iso-image.  It trickles down with 2... Read more

With apologies if I've posted in the wrong section, here is my story (I have Windows 7 Home Ed.):

The best way to save photos sent as attachments in Outlook 2007 has been to choose "Other Actions" from the top of the Message Box, and then "View in Browser" (followed by a right-click on the photo, leading to the save function). This has been working fine for me until today...

When I tried, the message opened in my "Opera" browser, which was weird, since I've selected "Chrome" as my default. Worse, the photo did not show, so I went about seeing how I may open my e-mails in a different browser.

Experience from the past has taught me "Firefox" is pretty hardy with related matters, and I thought giving Firefox a go would not be a a bad idea; but I decided on choosing "Internet Explorer" (which I never use) as my default for a quick test. (What harm could it do? I thought. I could always choose another browser as a default. Right...?)

At the test's conclusion, the photo did not show in IE either, which made me even more determined to try Firefox. However, after choosing Firefox as my default, the Outlook messages are still opening in Internet Explorer.

Looking around as to what I might do, the best clue was provided by this page (although it addresses a different problem), and aside from more troubling solutions such as reinstalling Firefox (I'd rather avoid doing that) and fooling around with the registry (which I'm afraid of doing) what gave m... What? Did I frighten our experts away, with my question?

Today I plugged in a new Seagate portable drive, and among the junk that was included was something called "Setup"; I was curious what could possibly need to be set up with a plug and play device, and when I clicked on it... Internet Explorer opened.

The question simply becomes this: For the moment, I am preferring Chrome to be the default browser, so is there a way for Chrome to overcome Internet Explorer with an action that calls for the default browser to open? (My previous example was Outlook, where Internet Explorer is still opening when I click on "View in Browser.")

Looking around, I keep running into pages where folks have the reverse problem, preferring IE to Chrome, but Chrome keeps butting in. This page gave the idea to go to "Internet Options" (Programs tab) to make sure whether a browser is set as the default (the browser being IE, which is not my purpose), because even if you set a browser as the default within a browser, apparently sometimes it does not register. Maintaining the idea, this page suggested traveling to "Set your default programs" in Control Panel, to make sure the program you want is indeed selected. To make sure, I picked Chrome... listed as having all of its defaults.

Internet Explorer, I noticed, had 6 out of 14 defaults. I next went to "Set Associations" from Control Panel, and scrolled down the list to see where IE was in charge. (This gave me the opportun... Read more

I don't know about the USB cable, I have no idea on how to detect a broken USB cable. Please give me actions that WON'T delete my files inside the drive, just give me that answer if there are no more options left. Thank you for your time and knowledge for helping me.

Hi!

Not sure if this will execute. I get so far and then when I enter something.... the pages
do not open. Almost like my pc lost the capability to finish what it started. Also
when I open my yahoo mail... there are letters but nothing shows up, blank pages.
I have another computer, and it will see the pages and execute any enters I make.
Only on this pc...the ability is gone. I redownloaded Java...no go. This all happened
when my pc was infected with a trojan. I used combofix...then all hell went lose. I did
a chkdsk and tried to repair my system. Don't know what to do.

Chris

A:Partially Lost Internet, Will Not Open Pages After Combofx

Combofix should not be used except under the supervision of a trained malware removal expert.Try these fixes:Log on as an administrator, go Start > Run and type: "cmd". In the window that appears type: "netsh winsock reset". When the program is finished, you will receive the message: "Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog. You must restart the machine in order to complete the reset." Close the command box and reboot your computer.Go Start > Run > type: "cmd" In the window that appears type: "ipconfig /flushdns". Close the command box.Go Start > Control Panel > Network Connections. Right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and and choose Properties. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item. Select the radio button that says "Obtain DNS servers automatically". Reboot. Warning: Some Internet Service Providers need specific DNS settings. You need to make sure that you know if such DNS settings are required before you make this change.

About a week ago my computer was infected with Windows XP Repair. I tried following several cleanups from the internet. I've downloaded and used rkill, supeantispyware, spyware doctor and malwarebyte's anti-malware. Still, I am unable to open tdsskiller. Plus, many of my programs in the start menu are hidden. Overall, my computer is running very slowly.

When I shut down my computer, for a couple of seconds something called Sysfader is running. Is this malicious? The same thing happens with something called app.bl87yEIQuTv3qlk4y24YZQ.6

Also I get a bunch of alerts saying that windows couldn't locate something. The last one said it couldn't locate grpconv. What's that?

Last, I have gotten some unresponsive scripts. One called c:/ program%20files/fox/components/nsblocklistservice.j:543

I have a frustrating situation with a brand new machine-2 months old. Can someone please help me diagnose its problem and find a solution? I’m out of tricks.

Around 11/16/2009 the browser (I use Fire Fox, always updated) would stop displaying content at some point in the day. Just white pages with the target URL in the address bar and page tab.

At first this happened once a day, then twice, then every 3 hours, then every 3-4 searches.

To regain the browser function I have to re-start…not just close and re-open the browser.

When FFox is down, so is IE.

I also began having trouble with email newsletters from Mediapost about the same time, so I thought it was something to do with Outlook 2007 or their emails. Ran Outlook in safe mode. No change. Created a rule to quarantine their emails to a folder. No change. Closed the preview pane. No change.

I downloaded and ran: Malwarebytes, Spybot Search and Destroy, Superantispyware, AdAware. ATF temp file cleaner. A couple of them found ad tracking cookies…but I get Advertising industry newsletters so of course they and their web pages are loaded with tracking cookies. No Malware.

All clean. No Change.

If I open only Firefox after a re-start, I can browse for hours without issue.

If I then open Excel or Word, or eventually both, I can still browse without issue.

If I open Outlook First, alone, or last in the stack, the browser will fail to display within 4 searches. (Except today when it was opened last and I stopped count... Read more

I'm using Windows XP Professional. 4 days ago, when I started MS Outlook 2003, it partially loaded V-E-R-Y slowly, and started to download email. But then it freezes and stops functioning. All my other software, including MS Office programs, run fine. I leave Outlook open hoping it will resolve itself, and periodially it does download email that pops up on the screen that is from 2 days ago as if it were new. But if I click on any Outlook open windows, I will get a message saying the program is not responding.

I've been archiving older messages, so I don't think the PST file has gotten too large, but is that a possible cause?

Any ideas? This is my work computer and I know I have multiple client messages that have been sent to me (they told me they sent emails) but no one has said they are bouncing back as undeliverable.

I'm quickly dying here, so any fast help would be great appreciated.

Yesterday I had the Zlob virus -- I removed manually some files that I needed to remove per a program called "SpyNoMore." The SpyNoMore program couldn't delete them because it kept saying I had some other virus program in memory (although I couldn't find anything). Well, at least now when I click on my Internet Explorer icon, it will go to the home page I specify (msn.com). yesterday, it would only go to this safetysettings.com web site and it was maddening. However, yesterday and still today, if I try to open a folder on my desktop, it immediately goes to Internet Explorer, the computer starts beeping, and locks up. Has anyone heard of this phenomenon? I thought maybe I should just reinstall IE, but I don't even know if that is what the problem is. I attempted to do a HiJack this, but the HiJack this gave me two errors. The first error said something about not being able to show the "hosts" file and the last error said "unexpected error at procedure ModMain_CheckOther Item() Error #75 - Path/File Access error. Please - I need some real help here. I do have a HiJack this log, but when it finished running, nothing was checked. SpyNoMore no longer shows that I have the zlob virus, but if that's the case, why won't my PC work anymore?

Hello all, this is my first post though I've read through some threads before. I noticed my browser was redirecting my searches to other advertising sites randomly, so I ran malwarebytes (after ccleaner) to see what was going on. It found a couple things, including Trojan.FlyStudi.Gen in the c:\WINDOWS\system32\35DEDD\ directory. I deleted that directory altogether after cleaning it (this was on 3/16). A week prior on 3/10 I had run the scan and had it removed Trojan.Hiloti, Trojan.Agent, Worm.Autorun, and HackTool.Patcher from a few files in the same dierctory and the system restore volume (which I have since disabled).

While my browser is no longer redirecting (I looked for proxys too, none there anymore at least) and my hosts file was clean, now the computer still seems 'hesitant' moreso than before, even. Every time I click on something in the browser but I think in general as well, it hesitates like the processor is in use.

The most concerning news today was that a client of mine who has a joomla website hosted through godaddy just had her site go down. It was hacked with some iframe code in index.php, which I was able to remove and hopefully cure. However, I had this client's (and many of mine as well) login and password information to the hosting provider stored in filezilla. Just today I read that filezilla stores passwords in plain text (is this true??) and am worried that her password and possibly my other accounts and ... Read more

I have some odd behaviour for 1 user with Outlook 2103, connected to an Exchange server

Some emails, not all, appear to duplicate but when clicked or an other message arrives, they disappear.

here's a couple of examples

so far I've recreated the mail profile, recreated the desktop profile, and fitted an alternative graphics card, without any improvement.

The problem does not follow the user to another PC.

any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi and Welcome to SevenForums,

Is the user in Cached Exchange Mode?
If they are there are 2 things to try:
Try re-creating their OST file, just rename they current on to .old and when they open outlook it will re-download / create the OST.
Take them out of cached mode and see if they still get the issue.

Hi everybody

I picked up some nasty malware. AVG was updating and suddenly everything just fell apart.

I can't run any installation programs regardless of the extension or name. I've tried to install Rkill and MalwareBytes with absolutely no luck. It defaults to needing to be unblocked in the properties and no matter what compatibility mode I use it will not run. I get a 1084 error when I try to open the security center. In the taskbar I have an Action Center alert that says 1 Important Message and 3 Total Messages. The Action Center will not open at all. I do not have access to a USB key as I am not home, but I will be Tuesday evening. Any help would be infinitely appreciated.

Other notes I forgot: I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, and I am constantly getting errors that Windows can't load and needs to be repaired. It runs and restarts, sometimes being repaired and other times not.

Thanks a lot
Jared

A:Action center won't open, Internel Explorer only browser that will open, no MalwareBytes and RKill will not open

An update.

I've tried running MalwareBytes and RKill from a flash drive which is also not working. Windows also ends up unable to load, the startup repair runs and things work fine. Not long after Windows tries to update and then it becomes unable to load again and the startup repair runs again.

I tried running a registry fix for the .exe problem and I get an error stating that the registry is being used even when no programs are running and I am in safe mode.

Hope this information helps
thanks
Jared

About 3 weeks ago, I noticed that my yahoo mail was not loading correctly.
Since then I have discovered that several websites will not load at all.

My wife's laptop with xp has no issues with the same sites.

Yahoo sites load partially displaying only text and text links.
While searching for remedies, I found yahoo answers that appeared like there might be useful information but could not get them to load either.

Two other example sites that do not load at all:
www.irs.gov
www.buzzfeed.com/daves4/the-world-isnt-such-a-bad-place

Firefox reports that they failed to load, Chrome reports that there was no data received.

I have Avast AV running, have tried clearing any and all rootkits. Tried Malware bytes, tried flushing the DNS cache. And as far as I can tell I am virus free yet nothing has helped.

I even tried looking up the IP address of irs.gov using nslookup and could not get any of the returned IP addresses to load.

I thought it may be a DNS issue, but I appear to be using reliable DNS servers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Any ideas as to what may be causing my system to refuse to download specific web sites?

A:Some sites will not load, some load partially, most are fine - browser independent

I am currently experiencing a problem that is driving me nuts. Whenever I go to a web page on Chrome, and reading it, the browser will suddenly jump (scroll) to the bottom of the page. It does this un-commanded. It does this without me touching either the mouse, nor the laptop surface. The laptop is a Lenovo Y580. It makes it almost impossible to read a webpage without using my mouse to go back to where I was reading. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your assistance.

I often right click in IE (I'm actually using Avant, a kind of IE mask I guess) and select Create Shortcut. It puts a shortcut and my desktop to that page. This mysteriously stopped working. The icon appears on my desktop with the page title and all, but when I double click it, it just opens up my browser and loads about:blank. In the shortcut file's properties, it just says:

Type: Internet Shortcut
Description: (the title of the page)

and then gives me the file's size, location, etc., but it doesn't list the URL anywhere. It's just getting on my nerves having to copy a page's URL to a text file on my desktop if I want to remind myself of something.

A:Simple but annoying. Web page shortcuts just open a blank IE page.

Sounds like you have been hijacked by about:blank. Go to this website that will help you remove it.

Hello All,

I manage the maintenance on a corporate jet. I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop running Vista. We use Microsoft Word 2007 for our maintenance log book, oldest maintenance entries to newest. I want WORD to open my logbook document on the last page of the document when I fire it up, not the first. Any ideas? My email address is [email protected].

Thanks, Greg Stultz

A:How can I get Word 2007 to open on the last page of a multi-page document?

The only way I know how to do this is using a macro. Open the document and press ALT + F11 to open the VBA editor. In the project explorer window on the left you will need to right click the object labeled "ThisDocument" and choose "View Code"

Paste the code below into the blank code window and save the document. You will need to adjust the macro security level to medium or low from the main Word window by clicking TOOLS --> MACRO --> SECURITY
Code:
Private Sub Document_Open()

Selection.EndKey Unit:=wdStory

End Sub
You can also accomplish the same action without using a macro by opening the document and clicking CTRL + END to take you to the last page.

Hi, I have a hidden area on my website only accessible if you click the right area of the menu bar. My website has 3 frames Top, Left and main. When you click on the part of the menu in the left frame the box for the password opens in the main frame, when you enter the correct password I want it to go to replace the 3 frames with different ones (using the parent method I would have thought). Hi,
I've been having a few problems with my browser redirecting to the google home page. I've just noticed this - so far its only happened when I've tried to access Myspace, which is a site I very rarely use, but it only happens when I'm running OpenVPN. On my plain ISP connection the page loads up OK. Not sure if I have a problem, but this certainly is odd beahviour.

Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks.

When I click on the arrow at the end of the address bar to get to recent browsing history it freezes the browser. At this point, the only recourse is a hard shutdown by holding the power button down. CTRL-ALT-DEL doesn't bring up the Task Manager, and doing it twice doesn't force a restart. Using the History button works just fine. It's just the arrow.

I've checked with MBAM,SAS, Avira Antivirus, Avira rootkit scanner,Spybot, and HJT. Also ran Norton Windoctor, because I don't know any other Windows checker. Other than some cookies and temp files, I didn't find anything.

About the same time, I started having a strange problem with pages saved from this site. When I try to open a saved page (from this site only) I get the Windows notice that it has encountered a problem and must close. The error shown in the details section has to do with MSHTL.dll.

Thanks for the time and help. I'm usually able to fix most problems by searching this site and following instructions, but these 2 have me baffled.

Browers, either Google Chrome or Internet Explorer, go into the internet, however after about 1 - 2mintes of use, everthing freezes. If I go into att e mail, it ceases taking commands. Chrome will also stop taking commands.

I ran AD Ware, also system tools like defrag and clean disk. Also ran Reg Cure. Nothing seems to help. This is a new problem. I don't know whether to use system restore or not...I'd rather not. Do you think it will help?

These problems are so damned annoying. Microsoft and other are just using us all for guinea pigs for their deficient software.

Can you guys help on this? 44 guy

A:browser opens then after a minute or two everything freezes and get browser not respoding

Are you positive that it is only in internet browsers? or is it possible that it could be in other stuff also?

It seems suspect that the whole computer freezes only in a browser much less more than one browser.

I would check hardware and make sure that something else is really going on.

I personally would at least test RAM for errors and also hard drive.

To further narrow it down, does this also happen in Firefox? (look at event viewer also).

Alot of stuff i know, but test this stuff and let us know.

My computer (OS Windows XP Home) has been running rather slow and recently I have not been able to access any internet sites. I have successfully connected to more than one wireless network and had 100% signal strength. When opening internet explorer, my preset homepage has disappeared and internet explorer is attempting to connect to errordns.com in the lower left corner of the window. The address bar remains blank. The explorer window then continues to constantly connect to errordns.com as if I were clicking Go on the right side of the address bar numerous times and overwhelming internet explorer. I am not able to access anything else which requires an internet connection, such as limewire or my AIM icon. I have attempted to change my homepage address in the internet connections options but the same repeating connection to errordns.com occurs. I do not have an up-to-date antivirus system currently. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

I am running windows XP home edition SP 2, accessing internet via Road Runner. I upgraded Internet Explorer. It froze so I killed it and restarted again. It finished properly the second time, or so it seemed.

IE7 ran OK the first time. The 2ns time it froze on a blank window. No toolbars, no status bar, no nothing, just the frame and blank inside.

Other symptoms: Internet Options opens up OK from the control panel, and every tab seems OK, but when I go connections, LAN settings, the button shows depressed, and the thing freezes.

I can access the WWW without a problem via Firefox. Outlook sends and receives email without a hitch. But any program that checks internet options to see about proxy settings or similar, freezes. Example Intellicast and the Zinio reader. Example the setup program for Max Registry Cleaner and Registry Mechanic.

I ran a virus scan with AVG. The machine was clean. I cleaned up the registry with RegistryFix. There were a lot of lose ends, now it is clean. I ran AVG Anti Spyware. It has a residue of 45 tracking cookies, nothing else. I uninstalled Intellicast and the Zinio reader. Nothing made a difference.

Here is the log from Hijack This. I will be most thankful for your help in figuring out this one.

When I open a Facebook page from Thunderbird Mail, some videos have the usual "triangle" to click on (these are OK) and there are other videos that have a "flashing three lines", these I cannot open.

The other problem is a black bar at the top of the open Facebook page. Again, this page is opened from Thunderbird Mail. At the top of the black bar the menu bar from Firefox is showing up in grey type color.

I hope the above info is enough for one of you guys to put me on the right track to fix these irritating issues.

I am running on Win 8.1 on a Dell PC. It is about 18 months old and to date I have had very few problems.

As far as I can determine, we had a power failure, the PC shut down (normal) and these issues were observed after bringing the machine back on line. I also had an issue with Adobe Flash in Firefox. However i seem to have corrected that issue.

Following a shut down caused by a power outage it is not impossible that some things have got corrupted.

I would be inclined to (1) back-up my contacts, then (2) uninstall both Firefox and Thundrbird, then(3) re-install them, followed by re-instating my contact list if necessary.

I have an older Dell running XP. Would like to wipe the operating system and do a clean install but have some programs I no longer have install disks for so I can't. Tried to complete the Preperation Guide. Defrogger worked fine. DDS would not run and it just gave me an output file full of gibberish. I tried to attach the text file but it was too large. Since DDR wouldn't run, I downloaded Hijackthis and have posted the log file instead. GMER ran fine, (took a long time) and I've attached the log file.

I have my default browser set to Mozilla Firefox. I have a few links to streaming radio on my desktop that only work with Internet Explorer, so if I want to just click the shortcut to the station, I have to set my default browser to IE. Is there a way I can make the links open in IE, but leave my default browser set as Firefox?

A:Open link with browser other than default browser?

You can download Coral IE Tab, which is an add-on for Firefox. I use it, and it works great.
