Unable to turn off windows feature .net framework 3.5

Q: Unable to turn off windows feature .net framework 3.5

I have recently ran the net cleanup tool trying to fix an issue (making a clean reinstall), but what I didn't expect would happen, did. I am now stuck where my windows 7 64 bit system does not have net framework 3.5 but thinks it has withing the "Turn off windows features" dialogue. I have attached a DISM log if it helps.

Things I've tried already:
- DLL Purgatory: Unable to Turn On .NET Framework 3.5.1 {PEN001}
- Installing .net framework 3.5 sp1 - received error message that I should remove it in turn off windows features.
- Running cleanups & all automated fixing methods I've found.
- SFC /Scannow - Did not help, returned error. Log attached.
- Installing .net framework 4 - It installs successfully, but does not fix any of my problems as the program im trying to run seems to need net framework 3.5 - The program is Catalyst Control Center, which I am trying to fix. The problem is that it won't, no matter what I do, display any dialogues. It is running in the system tray and all, but won't display. I did manage to get one (yes just one) .Net framework crash with it, so I started fixing it, and instead, ruined it and made my case even worse.

Now I am asking for professional help because no matter what I do I seem to ruin it.

Thanks in advance.

Catalyst info:

Tried every single guide I found on google for fixing any issues related to this. Has been tons of restarts and even more reinstalls, nothing seems to work. For anyone wanting to mention the "Remove the key named ... from %windir%\assembly I'll tell right now that it doesn't even exist there. Tried several versions of the installers. I am running crossfire (which is the start of all this hassle) which I wanted to configure, but then discovered I could not open the control center. Been struggling this for three days now, very annoying. If there is no way to fix this I'll do a reinstall, but I don't really want to do it, as I've set up this system exactly how I want it. (which took several hours of configuring and modding. And no, I haven't modded anything big, which could relate to this issue). If you mean I should reinstall my windows 7, please tell me of any programs that can be used to copy over all settings and files, but not the windows 7 system files

Catalyst topic again:
I've been a lot into the safemode and performed driver sweeping with driver sweeper and a few others while trying to reinstall this just to check if it wasn't .net framework that was the error.

Last option:
If anyone knows an alternative to the catalyst control center (which does the same things. Modifies the same configs etc.) I'd be more than happy

I have not seen any posts with any of the same issues like me on the internet while I've been searching, which is the reason why I post here.

Note: Cut out a little from the CBS log as I believe it was irrelevant and waay too old for this error.

You know how when you have a Windows' window that is partially off screen and you move the mouse over that window towards the edge of the screen where the window goes off screen how Windows automatically moves the window back fully onto the screen? What's that feature called?

And, more importantly, how do I turn it off?

A:How do I turn off that feature which auto moves windows on screen?

I'm not sure what you are wanting to turn off about that. As far as I know, it's not possible to disable the ability to Restore/Move an offscreen window back.

Offscreen Window - Move Back to Desktop

If this is not what you meant, then could you give more details and a screenshot to help clarify more?

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium (SP1) on a fairly new machine. I ran malware and McAfee scans which were all clean. I also ran Aaron Stebner's .NET Framework setup verification tool (which was clean as well). I have been using a software program that uses "Microsoft .net 3.5". We have been having some issues with the program and were advised to turn on the following Windows features:Control Panel>Programs>Windows Features>Microsoft .Net 3.5>two checkmarks below thisI have repeatedly checked these, tow at a time, one at a time, etc and the system will give me a "wait message", state that all of the features could not be started and request a re-boot. Upon a re-boot, neither of these features are checked.I have also attempted to re-install 3.5 (and the program itself). We have been unable to re-install 3.5 (it appears to start but just disappears without any confirmation whatsoever). When I look in programs I have Microsoft .Net 4.0, which apparently is the "parent" of 3.5I have also entirely removed both McAfee & Malwarebytes thinking these may have been blocking us, all to no avail, does anybody have any ideas?Thank you anybody in advance!Oh, by the way, system restore is also failing!

A:Microsoft .net framework 3.5 Windows Features Won't turn on

The Stebner for removing all versions of NET Framework. It does not do anything else. would use Mr. Stebner's tool...or simply go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall each Framework install in reverse order (most current first)...then install Framework 3.5, SP1, . Note: If using Add/Remove Programs, do not bother with any critical updates which may have been made to a given version...just uninstall NET Framework 4.0 and NET Framework 3.5 (if installed).IF you want/need to reinstall NET 4.0, .I've never had to do anything to "set up" any version of NET on any of my just installs. Well, I believe a reboot of the system is necessary but I don't consider that a setup procedure.Louis

I have recently changed my Windows XP to 7 and I want to Install Windows Media Player on my PC but my Windows 7 doesn't install it because it seams not to have media features included( It is Windows 7 N). Therefore, I went to this website (Download Media Feature Pack for Windows 7 N with Service Pack 1 and Windows 7 KN with Service Pack 1 (KB968211) from Official Microsoft Download Center) and downloaded its 32 bit version (Windows6.1-KB968211-x86-RefreshPkg.msu) since my computer's system type is 32-bit. However, after I downloaded it, I tried to install it but a pop-up window keeps appearing which says :" The update is not applicable to your computer". I am sure that I have downloaded correct version of the feature pack. I am very much distressed and I don't know what to do. I appreciate anyone who can suggest me a useful solution to tackle this problem because it is urgent and I have to install it.

Hello dear community,
I have now tried to install .NET Framework for several months, but nothing worked for me. I used the following methods:
- Installing it offline via "dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFx3 /All /Source:F\sources\sxs /LimitAccess", and yes, this is the directory where the folder is. I also ran cmd.exe as an administrator. It instantly goes up to 99.8%, stops
for about 10 seconds, and then returns the error. Here's a screenshot:
- Enable it with Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn Windows Features on or off -> .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)
- Typing "lodctr /r" into administrative cmd.exe and tried the step above again

Here's my DISM log-file:

I really hope than you can help me.

I bought a E520. I am not liking the touchpad on this thing. It hangs up and does not respond a lot of times. The biggest thing that irks me is that my screen will zoom in and out when I run my finger along the touchpad or when tapping it. I know you can use the "pinch" with two fingers to zoom in and out but mine will zoom with just a tap of one finger. Someone must know how to disable the zoom feature. Can you describe in detail to me how to do that? I called Lenovo support about it and the guy said it might be a software or hardware problem and told me to take it into a repair facility. There must be a way in settings to turn that off. I just want the touchpad to work normally, as in move the cursor around.. thats it, nothing more. Can someone help me with this??

A:How to turn off zoom feature on touchpad

In Control Panel go to Mouse -> UltraNav -> TouchPad Settings -> Application Gestures -> Pinch Zoom -> uncheck the Enable Pinch Zoom box. Enjoy! I did not like it either! You can fine tune all the touchpad features to your liking right there.

Open up Mouse in the Control Panel.
There should be a way to get to Touch Pad Properties.
From there you want to select Application Gestures.

Finally, make sure the box next to "Enable Pinch Zoom" is not selected.

I just did a clean install of 64-bit Win 10 Preview Build 14951 from an install.esd converted to an iso image. I go to Turn Windows features on or off and check the box marked Windows Subsystem for Linux (Beta). When my system reboots, an error message flashes by so fast, I can't read it and Bash isn't installed. I have Developer mode turned on and am an administrator on this computer. FSC /scannow and DISM show no errors at all. I really don't want to have to reinstall Windows.
What else can I do?

I have MS Visual studio 6 installed on my PC, and whenever an IE page has an error on it (like undetermined string constant for example), an error message will popup saying to click yes to debug or cancel. If you click yes (which I constantly do accidentally), it will close the IE windows and open up the debugger, which is then a hassle to exit out of.

This is very annoying and slows down browsing the web, so is there a way to turn off the debugger so it does not check for errors or anything when using IE, and so no error messages pop up?

A:MS Visual Studio - turn off debug feature for IE

Yup, in IE, Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Disable script debugging, make sure it's checked....had the same problem when I installed VS6.

So we all know that in Windows 7, the .NET Framework is already included with the system. With my system, the .NET Framework is currently turned off. Frankly I don't like .NET and I find that its only used during installation of programs; once the program is installed, I usually get rid of .NET and call it a day. I've been doing this for a long time, and I've been running Windows 7 since August without any issues.

Now I need to turn .NET back on so that I can install a program... but I can't. When I try to turn on the .NET Framework in the Programs and Features menu, I get the following error:

An error has occurred. Not all of the features were successfully changed.

Also be advised that I have done a TON of services.msc editing over the course of the months. The System File Checker also found no errors.

A:Can't Turn On .NET Framework?

You've probably disabled some needed service, as I'm sure you're aware; disabling services in Windows 7 causes more problems that it sorts, unlike back in the old XP days.

I'm sure you're also aware that it's going to take a bit of trial and error to sort it out.

Hello, Toshiba!

With the "Hardware Setup" program I set the _automatic switch on_ my notebook NB 510 _after lift the display_. Unfortunately, I _can not disable_ this feature.

I have tried in the "Control Panel - Power" to disable this function, I tried to disable this function by hardware setup, but to no avail.

When I check "disable the automatic inclusion" and reboot my notebook, but nothing has changed.
Also I reinstalled windows, I took out at 8:00 the battery from the motherboard, cut off the power to the notebook and remove the main battery, unfortunately, nothing did not help.

This function is inconvenient for me, because when the laptop in my backpack, it sometimes turns on itrself and the battery is very low.

How do I disable the automatic inclusion?...

OS: Windows 7, Windows 8, system BIOS version 1.40, EC Version 1.00, feature "Panel Open - Power On" (tab "Power Managment") in BIOS disabled, but it still works...

I really waiting for any answers, thanks a lot!

p.s. sorry for my bad english, it is automatic google translate.

I have looked all over the place and have even been tempted to call Microsoft's tech support if they had one and could find the number.
But I can't imagine its that hard to turn on/enable .NET Framework. I am running XP Home. I have found the ways how to do it in Windows 7 and 8 and thought it might be similar for XP, not the case or maybe it is and just haven't found it or its buried somewhere. I thought something like the attached screenshot would be easy enough to find to do it and seems it is for 7 and 8. I've been told its easy as checking/unchecking a box.
Again the attached image is what I am hoping is what I have to find on my OS but I believe its from Windows 7, 8 or maybe Vista but not sure as I don't have any experience with them.

A:How to turn on/enable .NET Framework

Apart from the Media Centre and Tablet PC editions, .NET Framework was not an OS component and so will not appear in the Add/Remove Windows Components list.
If it has been installed, .NET Framework will appear in the Add or Remove Programs list, so if it's not there you will need to download and install.

So for the past two days I've had a weird problem with my laptop after it ran out of power. It didn't want to connect online but that was fixed with command prompts and now the firewall is turned off. I've done a malwarebytes scan in safe mode with nothing found, tried doing some troubleshooting in the services and so on and so forth.
Basically when I try to turn on the firewall it says that it needs to be done manually and then when you try to turn it on manually it comes up with error code 0x8007042c. I've tried turning on the service but I get "Error 1608: The dependency service or group failed to start."

Hi jasallee,
It is not uncommon for remnants of malware to corrupt files. Can you tell us what the malware was and how you removed it. Also do you have a system repair disk or OEM cd/dvd?

Hi all,

I'm using a Dell E7240, did a fresh install of Windows 10.
I can pick up all sorts of WIFI connections and connect to them successfully.

However when I wanted to use my internal 3G modem it tells me that the "radio is off" and I can't enable this in settings?
Its greyed out, if I enable flight mode is greys out the WIFI and Bluetooth switches.
When I disable flight mode it allows me to turn WIFI and Bluetooth off/on but "radio" remains greyed out.

Checked BIOS settings, checked driver for the Mobile Broadband Card, disabled and enable the adapter.
Still does not want to allow me to enable the radio. I can manage the SIM PIN so I can change it or turn on or off.

It even shows me the network provider if I disable the SIM PIN, but the radio remains off!

Any ideas?

A:Windows 10 - unable turn on radio?

Hi there and Welcome to Ten Forums,

Have you checked any latest driver for your 3G modem? I'd also find out if there's any incompatibility issue.

Windows Defender unable to turn On.
I recently had Avast antivirus installed, just for an additional scan. But removed it properly using Revo Uninstaller.
I ran Services.msc and found that Windows Defender is set to manual (but is unable to be set to automatic, location is greyed).
When I run Action Center, in order to Turn ON Windows Defender it simply opens Windows/System32.
Found the following while researching online,

While attempting to install Avira AntiVirus, it informed me that Windows Defender was running and that I should turn it off. I open Defender and attempt to click on Tools but there is no response and the Tools icon is grayed out. Googled and came up with no remedy to this problem so here I am.

Anyone have a suggestion how I can turn off this program and/or get the Tools icon to be active?

I installed Windows 7 on my PC.

I set in the Power Options to turn off my display after 5 minute of inactivity. Unfortunately the system does not turn off the display, even if screensaver starts regularly (I selected blank screensaver included in Win7).

I yesterday updated my GPU driver (for another different problem) and I have latest driver for ACPI and monitor.

Any idea on the reason why my Windows is not able to turn off the display?

Thanks in advance.

A:Windows 7 unable to turn off the display on idle

Easiest things first.
Try to reset it to never turn off and then hit apply.
A reboot may not hurt.
Then turn it back on and see if it helps.

Hello, recently my computer showed a windows security alert in the right hand side of the task bar. It said that windows automatic update was turned off. I clicked onto the windows security center and it would not let me turn auto update on. A message will sometimes pop up that says something like: "Windows is unable to turn on automatic updates please go the the control panal, click on system and turn them on from there." This message does not appear every time. When I click control panel>Performance/Maintenance>system>auto update, I apply the change and hit OK but nothing happens after that. Automatic update remains off after trying what was suggested.

I have also been getting the same pop up about once every 5-10 minutes (sometimes more) that says "unable to connect to server" with the url:

I, again, apologize for double posting. I figure I should include the host of other issues I'm having. Maybe they can all be inter related.

-I have run the memory diagnostic tool in windows. No issues were reported.

-I have NOT run memtest86 because I do not have a disk drive connected.

-I have had stop-errors (BSODS) such as PFN_list_corrupt, System_service_Exception, Memory_management, IRQ_not_less_or_Equal
All of these could be a result of bad RAM.

I have purchased new RAM as a means to fix my problems. It seemed to work for 2 weeks, then the stop errors returned.

I recently had problems with folder view settings that keep resetting to some other setting and the desktop auto-arranging the icons on its own. The culprit is likely Trojan.Zaccess, which was removed by Malwarebytes. I've also made the necessary registry changes or deletions as indicated by what I found online about making the folder view settings remember my customized configurations. The following registry directories were involved in correcting the situation:

The first time happened around Jul 8 and then again today Jul 22. The first time around I was successful in keeping the folder setting intact. The second time around, I needed to do a restore point from Jul 20. However after reboot, McAfee's real time scanning is turned off and keeps switching off after manually turning it on. The Windows Security Alerts is also indicating that my anti-virus software is turned off.

I was told that there may be lingering problems that Malwarebytes was not able to remove. McAfee full scan also didn't find anything else. I have the following DDS log below and attached the attach.txt log from DDS as well as the ark.txt from GMER. He... Read more

Hi all Following a recent hard drive failure, I did a clean install of Windows 10 Enterprise (the ideapad originally came with a Windows 7 OEM licence). The wifi device, 'Qualcomm Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter' is present in the device manager and is reported as working. In the 'Network & Internet' settings dialog, if I turn wifi on, it is immediately turned off again. fn-F5 does nothing (the Lenovo Wireless Settings dialog is not displayed). Perhaps I need to (re-)install this somehow? The WLAN Auto Config service is running (automatic). Cisco AnyConnect is not installed; I am actually trying to install it over wifi by connecting to my company's VPN server (which is not accessible using a wired connection) so that I can Activate Windows 10. Any ideas on how I can turn wifi on? TIA :-)

A:Z380 Ideapad: Unable to turn wifi on after Windows...

fn-F6 has stopped working now too :-( so I cannot turn off the touchpad which is pretty annoying when your job requires a lot of typing. I have no idea why. I tried uninstalling the wifi adapter driver and installing the one from Lenovo's website, but I still cannot turn wifi on and fn-F5 still does not bring up the Wifi Settings dialog. Perhaps my laptop model just isn't supported under Windows 10?

Hi guys, I'm a bit desperate here right now.

I have the same problem that this guy over here. I'm running Windows 10 Home x64, version 1607, build 14393.0.

I had to restore the PC to a previous point because I ****ed up some drivers. Then my AV (Bitdefender Free) started having some issues (they gui didn't display correctly) so I decided to uninstall it and just go with Windows Defender.

The problem is I can't get it to work... I get a notification in the Action Center saying to turn on the virus protection, when I click it, Windows Defender goes green(PC status: protected, Real time protection: on) for a second and then goes yellow again (PC status: Windows Defender is OFF, Real time protection: Handled by another AV program) and I get the notification again. If instead of clicking the notification I click "Turn on" on the Windows Defender gui, Windows opens another window, "Apps & Features" in settings, like asking me to uninstall the other, nonexistent AV.

Now, I've tried a lot of things...
Of course, I have completely uninstalled Bitdefender. I used the official tool provided by them for this. There is nothing in the registry by bitdefender nor any file or folder by that name in my PC.

I have tried every step listed here.

I have tried to install another AV (Avast) and the uninstall it to see if this would "reset" somehow windows defender. (Nope.)

I have tried option #2 here Windows Defender - Turn On or Off in Windows 10 - Wind... Read more

Hello, recently i noticed that out of nowhere, my internet was going very slow; loading pages at a very slow pace, and basically 'choosing' when it wanted to load the pages or not. Just some really strange behavior. I ran a full scan and boot time scan about a month or two ago, and it detected an incredible amount of infected files, in the range of about 1,000 - 10,000. Many of them were some type of google update files, folders with crazy amounts of letters and numbers in their name between curly braces '{ 8sdfkjsdf8...etc,etc}'.
After quarantining and delting these, the internet problems seemed to dissapear. But ofcourse they come back. A few days ago i ran a boot time scan and it detected about 3,000 viruses. Again, these were mostly those strange google update files/folders. Here is the DDS.txt:

Did you uninstall Bit Defender using their uninstall tool? Chances are there are fragments of the program left over which may be causing this problem. You can find the Bit Defender uninstall tool here, run it & hopefully this weeds out any leftovers.

To be sure everything is removed properly, we also recommend using our dedicated uninstall tool. Download it from this location and then run it on your system:

This is my 1st post in bleeping computers. This is the second time I am facing this issue. My windows security center wont turn on. I followed few Microsoft articles and tried registry fix, still no fix!!! I contacted my computer manufacturer tech support and complete OS reinstallation was done. This is the second time I had to do a factory reset on my computer. I still don't have an answer why this happened and what caused this issue. I suspected virus and ran trojan remover, malwarebytes, super anti, hitmanpro and my antivirus program McAfee. No virus found. But still my security center was disabled. I finally gave up and contacted my computer's tech support and they informed most of my computer's windows files were corrupt and they could not start windows services like windows firewall were not working and suggested me factory reset. I want to know what caused this issue and what should I do to avoid this issue in future. Is there a software or scan that can fix this issue without having to do OSRI? I am unable to turn on windows security centre service and the firewall on my McAfee keeps switching off. I have Malware Anti-malware (PRO), Super AntiSpyware and McAfee. Operating System is Windows 7.
I ran a scan on McAfee, Super Anti-Spyware and Malware and malware found the following trojan msimg32.dll (Trojan.FakeAlert.RRE) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully. Turned off the computer but still had the same problem with the security centre and McAfee Fire wall. The computer just switched off as well.
Can you please advise what I need to do to enable the Security Centre Service. I have clicked on services but there is no Secutity Centre showing, even after Malware removed the trojan. Am I still infected?
Thanks in anticipation for any assistance that you can provide.

I have been unable to install Dot net 1.1 or 2 on my system. I have downloaded it from Windows update and will download but will not install. Shows updates not installed. All other updates seem to work fine. I have uninstalled all old dot net items and ran a cleaner for dot net as well. Windows update now shows 0 megs to download and will go straight to installation and then fail. I have done what I could find on the net with a google seach and do not understand the MS site as to this problem. All other functions seem to run fine except those that require dot net.
Any help appreciated.

I too have a problem with mine. I was trying to install a program on my laptop that was needing .net Framework 3.5 sp1, it allowed an auto update for it so I didn't have to download the program from Microsoft, but when I got to the point where it would installed, its said it failed because 2.0 wasn't installed. My laptop has .net framework 1.1 right now.

So I went to the main website (Microsoft) to download the program in full installation for 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5 with there serves packs for them. I got to the point to install 2.0, its said that I have it already, and so i went to 3.0, but it wont install because I need to get windows XP SP1 for it, but the thing that I don't understand is that I'm running Vista.

So I'm just lost here as well on trying to get my laptop with .net framework. if someone know what to do, I'll be very great full for your help.

Hi, All!

My first post and with all due respect, I will make a more formal introduction to the Introduction forum.

I was in the process of installing .Net Framework 2.0, precursor before installing SyncToy 1.4, when I received the following error message:

Error 256015.Failed to install assembly 'C:\ . . . . /System.Web.dll' because of system error: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

I looked on the web for a solution and nothing I found matched my problem, tried what I knew and still unable to install. SyncToy is still waiting in the wings.

Any help, solution or better yet, suggestions to what to look for/look at, under the hood to fix myself, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Yours truly,

I'm at a loss at this point. I could link you all the dozens of web pages I've pored through explaining what to do but that would take up too much space. I've been trying to install 3.5 online for a loooong while now and no method I've tried has worked.

The error codes I got were 0x800F081F or 0x800F0906 every time I tried to install it. I tried this method recently: How to fix 0x800F0906, 0x800F081F, 0x800F0907 error while installing .Net Framework 3.5 or higher version | UDHYAN TIMILSINA But, after I tried using that method, now it's stuck at "searching for required files". I don't get the error codes anymore, but it's literally been stuck at that for over an hour now, so I must have done SOMEthing wrong.

I tried using the DISM command prompts, didn't work. I tried to find and uninstall the KB296xxx updates, but I don't even HAVE those updates to begin with. I've pretty much scoured through Google for the past 2 hours or so but, no dice.

Anyone here able to help me? I had to register here and ask since I didn't know what else to do. But please keep in mind that I'm not by any means experienced with software jargon, so I'd appreciate it if you could explain the solutions to me in a noob-friendly type way. Thank you.

The desktop originally had XP Professional and was upgraded when Vista first came out & SP1 was installed via Windows Update when it was released.. The laptop had Home Premium, upgraded to SP1 via Windows Update and then upgraded to Ultimate via Windows Anytime Upgrade disc.

Installed just fine on the laptop, but would not install on the desktop.. got the following errors:

is there a special procedure involved? now i am also concerned about getting service pack 3 because of reported issues. i have heard that i should have .NET framework 3.5. i don't even know what this is, much less how to get what i should have. any help would be appreciated.

I am running Windows XP Professional 32 bit service pack 3. I have also downloaded all the latest windows updates and security patches. Net Framework 3.5 sp1 is already installed. However, I am unable to install Net Framework 4.

I have attempted it repeatedly. When I down load the file, it appears in My Downloads as an unrecognised file type. When I double click on it, instead of 'running' or asking me to save the file so that it installs as an .exe file, my computer asks me what application to open it in, and so it is not installed.

I have installed a programme which requires Net Framework 4 in order to run. I have no idea why this programme is not installing. Can you help? Thanks.

I don't know what else to call it. On my old computer, I would go to Ebay and begin typing in the first letter of what I wanted to look at, and several words would appear that began with that letter (items I've looked at before), and then I could just click on the one I wanted. Now I have a new computer, and it doesn't do that anymore so I am constantly retyping in the words.

I'm thinking there must be a simple place you go to turn this feature on, but I have no idea where/how. Can someone help me, please? Thanks.

Here is what I did before coming to this forum:
Virus scan: microsoft security essentials, ad-adware
SFC scan: no errors
register and unregister windows installer
use many microsoft fix it that includes repairing windows update, msi, etc

Thanks for the tips, but I just did a repair install and that was able to fix the problem.

* Have you a System Restore point created PRIOR to this problem that you can roll back to?

* Start > Control Panel > Search box > type troubleshooter > click Troubleshooting > System and Security> Fix problems with Windows Update.

* Try to install it again.

Read through the below instructions carefully before deciding to follow the directions.

* If that fails you might choose to run the .NET Frameworks Cleanup Tool
Just the .NET Frameworks 4.0 > reboot > try to install it again.

There are a couple of very important caveats that you should review before using this tool to remove any version of the .NET Framework from your system:

This tool is designed as a last resort for cases where install, uninstall, repair or patch installation did not succeed for unusual reasons. It is not a substitute for the standard uninstall procedure. You should try the steps listed in this blog post before using this cleanup tool.

This cleanup tool will delete shared files and registry keys used by other versions of the .NET Framework. If you run the cleanup tool, you will need to perform a repair/re-install for all other versions of the .NET Framework that are on your computer or they will not work correctly afterwards.

as i tried to install the .net framework 3.5, i got an error just after finishing installing the programme. The instalation would fail just after finalising the instalation. I looked up for some common issues and i found out that the error might be caused by the microsoft framework 3.5.1 being turned off and so i tried to swich it on and off but after running the installer 20 times without success and uninstalling the 4.5 version, i dont really know what to do next in order to get no 'error in setup' using framework 3.5.1 being swiched on and not having any other framework (4.0/4.5) on my computer

Any suggestions/clues that may cause this issue?

A:.NET framework 3.5 sp1 unable to install 'error in setup'

Have you tried uninstalling 3.5.1 and then installing 3.5?

Is there a compelling reason to use .NET 3.5? 4.0 and 4.5 are much newer and are compatible with the older versions. Unless a particularly badly coded piece of software is demanding .NET 3.5, I would just let Windows Update take care of getting 3.5 into your machine.

A few weeks ago it was required for me to install a program which could would work if i had installed net framework 1.1.

At that time i had net framework 4.0, the program i required to install was nessesary for my school and i spent a lot of effort installing net framework 1.1, which was not an easy task. it wasn't possible installing it a normal way, and i ended up going in Comand Prompt as administrator and fixing 2 installations at the same time or something like that. Can not recall it very well.

The net framework 1.1 required updating and at the start of my computer booting it would generally ask me Accept of Decline the update possibility. This request has disappeared. I noticed when i would accept the update it infact wouldnt update anything and would not let me install anything cause it was apparently bizzy with updating.

This issue has now worsen over time, it does not ask me if i accept the update at all.

Now i cannot install or uninstall any programs, i have tried too install Java, and ableton. both failed, when i want too install something it says i do not have enough disk space. The same thing happens when i want too uninstall a program it says make sure u have enough disk space. i have 193 GB out of the 284 GB, i think i would have enough space for Java.

The netframework 1.1 clean up tool does not help me.

If your Windows Seven edition supports XP mode try using that to run .NET 1.1. Also I would contact the school and tell them using this obsolete software is endangering everyone's set up. Nobody still alive programs for .NET 1.1.

If you can't use XP Mode try Virtual Box. It's free. If you have trouble getting it to work try the Virtualization subforum here. It's getting the first one to work that can be difficult, like most things. I've gotten Virtual Box to work. But I've never tried XP Mode. I'm told that's the easiest. And XP is a lot closer to .NET 1.1 than Seven is.

Also whateverf software they are making you use I would search for an upgrade. The teacher may be just too lazy to look.

I've had great success with you folks in the past removing viruses and with increasing my system response time and I would like to ask for your assistance once again.

I was having trouble installing the new MS update KB922770 earlier this week.
I had this problem in the past and it was resolved by deleting the .NET Framework 2.0, reinstalling it then installing the update.

Now when I try to reinstall the .NET Framework 2.0 I get the message:
C:\Documents and Settings\Beau McCrury\Desktop\.Netfx.exe is not a valid WIN32 application.

I don't know what this error message means and consequently I'm not sure what to do next. Would you please advise me on how I should proceed?

A:Unable To Reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 And Update KB922770

Hi beaumac

Quick Fix Try:
1) Make sure that Update KB922770 is not present, and if it is, uninstall it [Add-Remove Programs in Control Panel]
2) Try deleting whatever .NET 2.0 download you currently have, and use this link to download a fresh copy ---
3) If .NET 2.0 installs successfully, you can then reboot, and try another visit to Windows Update to see if the patch now installs OK.

The error you were receiving can sometimes be generated (humorously enough) when the 64-bit version of .NET is accidentally downloaded and it's installer run [the error message is konked a bit, because 32-bit Windows gets a bit dizzy when fed 64bit code].

See if that helps
. . . Gary

A:explorer.exe. net framework unable to find a version of runtime to run this applicat

Some or all of your .Net framework programs(s) was affected.

Do any appear in Add/Remove Programs?

If they do, uninstall through there.

If they don't, or do and won't uninstall, then use the .Net removal tool -> Automated cleanup tool to remove the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 - Aaron Stebner's WebLog - Site Home - MSDN Blogs

After that, reboot and use MS Update to get them installed again (you start with 1 and work your way up).

I'm actually at my wit's end...

A recent Thunderbird update has created a new "Paragraph" feature when composing messages. That means that each time the enter key is pressed, the cursor advances two lines instead of one, UNLESS you click a button and set the editor to "Body Text". If you do that it only advances one line at a time.

Is there any way to turn off this "Paragraph" feature? I prefer to use "Body Text", but that means I have to click a button and select from a drop down every time I want to compost a message, and I always forget.

Any help would be appreciated.

Been using Windows 7 Pro for years. Never had this problem until I got this new laptop. Whenever I move a window, these "shadow windows" appear. I disabled "show windows contents while dragging," but this apparently is a different problem. See pic. Does anyone know how to get rid of these "shadow windows"?

A:Unable to turn off Windows 7 Pro "shadow panes"

Try unchecking Show shadow under windows and see.

When I try to login to Facebook I get this error message:
"Sorry, this feature isn't available right now
An error occurred while processing this request. Please try again later."

I am on a:
HP Pavilion g6 PC, 64-bit OpSys, Windows 7 Home.

This started yesterday morning. Here's what I've done so far:
- cleared history/cache in Chrome and restarted the computer - still not able to login.
- uplugged router and reset - still not able to login.
- logged in from my wifes computer and was able to get in.
- logged in from my iphone and was able to get in.
- logged in with I.E. and was able to get in the 1st time, tried again later and was not able to.
- uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome (and all associated files) and was not able to login.
- visited the Geek Squad at Best Buy and they didn't know.

I read an online forum and saw a couple responses:
- FB may be doing maintenance on servers or databases
- you account may be temporarily banned for some reason
but both of those don't seem to apply to me if I can get on with another computer and my iphone, unless those use a different IP address or something.

Any suggestions anyone?
PS I sent 2 messages to FB but they just send back the standard 'thanks for the feedback' message.

Hi I tried twice today to download and install the following updates, Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86. it is a large update taking approx 30mins to download the 248MB package. Both times it got to the end of the download and the next I got was a message saying installation failed. At first I thought it was Comodo BoClean so turned it off the second time but got the same result anyway.
My PC is an AMD Athlon XP2400+, 1GB of RAM running on XP3 and updated via Automatic Updates "notify but do not install". I got a MSN email notification on IE8 RC1 and decided to check my Firewall connection to Microsoft Update, where I was told that the mentioned updates were available and decided to install them though not IE8 at this time.

For real time protection I use Comodo CIS, Comodo BoClean and SpywareBlaster. I switched off BoClean the second time and set CIS to installation mode both times. I cannot see anything else on my PC which could hinder the installation process. In my Add/Remove program list I have Microsoft .NET Framework versions 1.1,1.1 Hotfix, 2.0 Service Pack1, 3.0 Service Pack1, 3.5, Should I uninstall these before installing the latest version or should they all remain on my installed programs?. I would appreciate it if someone could offer some help here as I like to keep my PC up to date.

Hi .Well...let's start with the reason you have MS .NET installed on your system. What applications/drivers do you use which require any version? If you have no such applications...IMO it's not even necessary to install any version of MS .NET on a system. Doing so is a waste of time for those who don't have applications which demand MS .NET.

Before I start, forgive me because I am on my phone.
So my laptop notified me it was repairing a driver and in the middle of the process it changed screens and tried to restart. Now my computer will not turn fully on and goes to a blue screen. Says it cannot repair itself. I've tried system repair and using the command prompt for multiple things I read online. Nothing has worked and I am getting frustrated. I have not had this computer but a few months, but it does have my hard drive in it from a previous computer which is about 2 years old. I'm using the old hard drive because I wanted to save all my files and since this laptop does not have a CD drive I cannot backup my files unless on a flash drive.

So I am stuck. System repair does not work with or without the command prompt. With command prompt the error 0x80070003.

Any help is gladly appreciated.

Hi, and welcome to TSF.

You said you tried system repair so you must obviously have the Windows 8 disc, that may come in handy.

I'm running a Synaptics touchpad here. Ever since I got this comp, I've had tap-to-click disabled. But now for some reason it got re-enabled. Whenever I go into the tray icon for Synaptics, I click on it with both buttons (right and left) but it just sits there and does nothing. Whenever I try to do it from the control panel I click on Mouse but again it sits there and does nothing.

How am I supposed to disable it??!

Thanks to you guys I was able to remove the trojan from my pc...and then I got to checking on some settings. For some reason my firewall is turned off and I can't turn it back on. The following message is in my security center:

The Security Center is currently unavailable because the "Security Center" service has not started or was stopped. Please close this window, restart the computer (or start the "Security Center" service), and then open the Security Center again.

If I click on the Firewall icon anyway the message at the top says: For your security, some settings are controlled by Group Policy.

I have no idea where to set those or why or how they got changed. From what I could find on Microsoft site (trying to read that is ridiculous) it says the following:

You install Windows XP SP2 on a client computer that is located in a Microsoft Windows Small Business Server (SBS) 2003-based network.
• You have joined a client computer that is running Windows XP SP2 to a Windows SBS 2003-based network

What does all this mean and how can I turn my firewall back on?

Hey guys. I hope this thread is going in the correct section of the forums. I am experiencing problems with getting my hard disk drives to turn off when not in use. I have changed the settings in power options under the ''balanced'' preferred power plan and have set it to turn off after 90 minutes if the drives are idle. This doesn't seem to do anything, i have tried setting a different time limit, still no joy with that either. Anyone know what could be causing this? It did used to work perfectly before when my PC was new but now it has stopped working. No idea why. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64bit. Any help with this issue is welcome. Thank you.

My father's laptop crashed two weeks ago, I tried to troubleshoot it but nothing is working. The laptop is exactly two years old and runs on windows 10. The laptop will not turn on, but, on the rare occasion it does, it reports an error almost like a hard drive or motherboard error. The laptop has been only been used a handful of times within the last year and never operated serious programmes that would challenge the computers operating systems. I have a basic knowledge in laptops and to me, it appears to be a hard drive/ motherboard error which is preventing the laptop from operating. Unfortunately, my father never renewed the warranty so I'm enquiring if there are any services available within HP to repair the latop.

Hello, I am having the same issue discussed in this thread:(My tablet is not able to turn on at all - and there is no indication that it is charging when it's connected to a charger or computer.) But NONE of the solutions posted in this thread has worked for me, so now I don't know what to do.All I can get out of the "soft-recovery" solution by holding down the power button for 64 seconds is a little flash around the power button that fades away instantly and nothing happens. Thank you for reading and please help me ASAP.
