Computer crashes while installing Windows 7 and playing WC3

Q: Computer crashes while installing Windows 7 and playing WC3

My newly bought (this month) computer froze many times while I was playing Warcraft 3.

It even froze when I was installing Windows 7.

Strangely, it doesn't freeze if I'm playing Left 4 Dead 2.
Btw, there is no blue screen. The screen simply freezes.

So I have been trying to play/rip this CD I just got, but I have been having no luck at all. It will start playing the song, and continue playing the whole song, but the rest of the computer crashes so I am forced to restart. I don't get why one program would crash the whole computer like that... I've also tried to rip the CD, and it would rip about 4 tracks and then the computer would crash and it would stop. Anyone having a similar problem or know how to fix this one? It is an imported Japanese CD by the way, not sure if that matters or not.

Hi,
I recently built my PC straight from the build guide by Austin Evans on YouTube called the 'Neutron 2.0'. I got Windows 10 installed on my PC and it has been working poorly. Whenever I play a game downloaded from Steam, the entire computer will crash at random times, freezing and forcing me to restart the entire computer.

When I go to turn the computer back on it will repeatedly turn on and back off within a second. It will go through this cycle until I have to power down again.

I am not sure why the computer is having these problems. HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED.
Thanks.

First I would try once again uninstalling the graphics card driver, rebooting and then again reinstalling the latest driver for the graphics card which hopefully is certified as W7 compatible.

Hi Guys and Girls,

I seem to be having yet another problem with this computer...

After 10 or so minutes of playing a game my computer will crash. Sometimes the display will freeze, go blank and then come back on again after 5 seconds... sometimes the display will just turn off... and sometimes whole system just freezes.

My first point of call was to update the drivers and software for my (now pretty ancient) ATI X1600XT card. This made no difference. I have also tried monitoring the temperatures using SpeedFan and it all seems to be running fairly stable - I'm only seeing up to a 10C rise in temperature of my GPU keeping it running well below 60C. Inside the computer is not particularly dusty either and all fans seem to be running healthily. I am mainly playing Guild Wars and occasionally Civ IV - which my computer will run on max settings with truck loads of performance power to spare - so nothing demanding at all.

The strangest thing has happened...
Every time I start playing a game, it either crashes straight on load up, or anywhere between 5 and 15 minutes after start, and I have no idea why.

The games usually loads up, but then everything freezes, and Im just left looking at the frozen screen. I can't use Alt + F4, Alt + Control + Delete or Alt + Tab to do anything, the only solution is to turn of the computer manually and restart it again. The strange thing is that Ionly get this issue when playing games, I can surf the internet and do other things just fine. My operating system is Windows Vista.

What is going on?! Any help is very much appreciated, Im really frustrated about this.

My computer crashes whenever I use a cd or dvd in my drive. I am able to burn cds with no problem. The error mostly occurs about two minutes at most after I start playing a dvd game. It also happens when I am trying to rip cds to my hd. I have already switched out the actual cd/dvd with others that work, checked the drivers, and reinstalled a few dozen times. I can run anything and everything normally except for those two things. When it does crash, it is almost like it just turns off. So I never get any error messages, blue screens, warnings or anything. I dont even have to reboot in safe mode or anything, its like windows was just shut down immediately. I dont have a problem playing a cd. I am at a loss. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am sorely afriad I already know what the problem is, but I am hoping it is somwthing different so I ask your help.

First and foremost let me say that my computer has worked perfectly fine for about 9 months without any problems. Previous to that I had to learn the hard way that gigabytes bargain mobos arent ment to be trusted.

My system now is...
AMD athlon 64 3000 1.8 ghz
abit KN8 v1.1 mobo
PCIe ati X600 pro
1 gb of ddr 400 ram
430 watt antec PSU

Then for some reason a couple weeks ago games on steam would start glitching then about 30 min later my computer would crash. Sometimes the screen would turn black or the game would freeze with looping sounds forcing me to reboot. At first I thought it was just steam as this is not the first time STEAM has messed something up and had to be reinstalled. So I followed the STEAM tech support forums and reinstalled drivers for damn near everything. I am not a real big game player eaither so the only games I really ever play anymore are on STEAM. So I reinstall STEAM but the problem continues and actaully begins to get worse. To the point that it is Glitching then crashing after about 2 min. So then I figured something is deathly wrong with STEAM so I try a different game. Samething happens to that game. Thats when I realize I have a big Uh Oh on my hands.

So I do the google thing looking for the same problem on the net and a potential solution. I have come to the conclusion that it could be damn near anythi... Read more

Wow. I really have to congratulate you on everything you've done so far... and your patience. I suppose one of the only options remaining is to test the video card in another pc if you can. Also, I don't know if you can but if you could find out how hot the card itself is running that might help too. You've tried almost everything else... Whenever i'm playing league of legends my monitor will get a black screen and my sound goes all disorted making a weird noise and my computers power button is still lit up but I have to hold it for 4 seconds to restart. I've been playing this game for over a year and i've had this critical error before but it very rarely happened and since about 2 weeks ago i've been getting it between 1 - 5 times per game (they last around 40 mins).

I've updated all my drivers and done a memory diagnostic test which gave me a hardware error so I guess thats the cause but i'm not sure what to do or how to fix it.

Thanks

A:My computer crashes when playing games

What did you use to run the memory diagnostic?

If you used Windows Memory Diagnostics D/L Memtest+ burn it to a CD using a free program like Imgburn if you need one then boot from the CD to test the ram, let it run for at least 6 passes or until you see an error.

Any error means a bad ram stick, at that point you would need to test them 1 at a time by removing all but 1 stick running the test and then swapping the stick for another.

Ever since I installed guild wars II around two weeks ago my computer seems to freeze which needs a hard reset. This isn't isolated to guild wars 2 anymore but all games that have intensive 3d graphics. At first, I thought I had some sort of virus and wiped my discs clean. Then I updated my cards drivers and even switched to older more stable drivers. But it still happens. I then replaced my GPU and even upgraded my PSU and yet it still seems to freeze. When doing things like browsing the web or playing videos etc. the computer runs like a dream. But when I start playing a game with anything but the lowest setting.. it will - without fail, crash my computer within about 15 minutes and it's driving me up the wall. I do not want to spend more money on guesswork, I want to know what the heck is wrong and how I can fix it.

I've tested everything I can think of from memory to stress testing CPU. I've checked for dust and even looked for lose screws, bent pins etc. Everything seems to check out okay. But when I run Kumbustion, after a about 15 minutes into the test it will crash. The two different GPU's react the same way.

Seeing as it is a just released game it is hard to give any advice here other than to be sure you meet the minimum requirements. Could be about anything with a new game. I would suggest going to the Witcher support forum as many more there will have experience with the game.

Also hard to help with no system information. And welcome to the forum!

Hi guys, I'm new here and I this forum seemed like you guys can help me.. BTW I'm don't know a lot about computers, so if I left anything out, please tell/ask me!

My computer keeps crashing about 4-5 minutes as I'm into playing a game. I get crashes for Madden 08, NBA Live 07 and Civillization IV, and those are the only games I have played, so I doubt it's the games. I have Windows Vista, but I am almost certain that it's not the operating system's problem since one of the games was working perfectly fine a while back..

This is what I get sometimes:

or I would get a blue screen and it would say something about crash dumping physical memory (no exact but some key words) and it would start to load..

System Specs:
Windows Vista Home Premium
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Processor 4600+
NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE
Hard Drive 320GB SATA
2048MB DDR RAM
PSU 300w

Things I tried:

+ Reformatted the computer. I've done this twice and it still has the same problem

+ Put another fan beside my computer preventing it from overheating. (I had the exact same problem a while ago with my computer and it seemed to work, until I reformatted this computer, now it doesn't work anymore)

+ Installed up-to-date Direct X and video card. (Direct X 10 and Driver from NVIDIA.com)

+ Installed Windows Vista Updates

Yeah.. any help?

Hello, my computers is crashing when I start up Final Fantasy XIV or World of Warcraft. When it first happen I check the temperature of my GTX 780 graphic card and it was overheating at 90 degrees (surprised) so I downclock the GPU putting a cap of how high the temperature can go. This has made the issue go away for about a month but the issue has return with the temperature under control at 70 degrees. When my computer crash it would most of the time just restart but a few time it gave me the BSOD, sometime the BSOD doesn't complete and freezes. If the computer doesn't crash during about the first 5 minutes of the game, then it would not crash during the rest of the game session but tend to crash about 80% of the time I start up the game. Right now I am avoiding the crashing by playing the game at lowest setting giving my graphic card temperature at 60 degrees. Can the data you ask me to provide can confirm that the culprit is the graphic card hardware issue that is the culprit or another hardware like the power supply (Corsair Gaming Series 800-Watt ATX/EPS Bronze) that is having issue?

Hey guys I'm kind of new to the forums and hope you guys will answer this for me. A month or so now I've been having trouble with playing my games without them crashing every 10 minutes or so. The games I'm referring to are HL2, DoD: Source, CS: Source, and even games like Warcraft III that aren't nearly as graphically intensive as the source games.

Whats been happening is I play the game for what, 10 - 15 minutes and it crashes and only occasionally does it ever play for more than an hour. The screen goes black like there isn't a connection to my computer and a stuttering or static sounds comes out of the speakers. The computer doesn't restart when I press the restart button and I have to press and hold the power button so it shuts down completely before I can restart it.

An additional information is that I just reformatted my computer last night hoping it would've been fixed but it still happens. I've updated my ATI card and I'm up to date with windows update. Updated my mother board and processor as well too. So any help would be really nice, thanks guys.

My Computer has started crashing very frequently, recently. I have 6GB of RAM, GeForce GTX 460M, Intel Core i7 Q740 @1.73GHz, Windows 7 on an Asus laptop. It runs fine and there is no changes in performance, but every 10-20 minutes while I am in game the computer just freezes and I have to hold the power button and restart. This has made playing League Of Legends nearly impossible since I disconnect 2-3 times a game. If I am not playing any games, and just watching youtube or browsing reddit It runs all day long, for many hours and never crashes. This makes me think it is a problem with the temperature, since it only happens when my computer is under intensive use. I have tried turning all the settings down in game to see if that lightens the load and makes it easier to run, but it doesn't seem to help. I have no idea what the problem is, and any help would be appreciated. It only happens during games and it just crashes every 10-20 minutes withought warning. Ill be running at 60fps and then it just instantly freezes, no loss in performance leading up to it.

Your crash dumps are not showing any finite probable cause. In such a situation, it is better to enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

Hello forums!

About 3 months ago, i built a new computer with different parts that i bought from the internet on a swedish pc website. I was really excited to get to play some high quality games but was quickly turned down when it started crash while playing high quality games. I thought it was overheating, so i bought 4 new fans for my computer and installed them all. My GPU never gets higher than 54 degrees celcius. But it just keeps crashing. There is only 3 games that it crashes on so far. That is "Battlefield 3", "Far Cry 3" and the game that i just bought yesterday "Dead Space 3". I have asked EVERYWHERE for advice on how to fix it. NOTHING worked! I'm getting really sick of this and i really need help to fix this! How it looks like when it crashes is that the screen just goes black or greyish with black stripes and the sound starts to buzz louder and louder so i have to force shut it off. I have ran some tests lately to see how my pc reacts to stress tests. Here is the results:
When i ran furmark for about 2 - 3 minutes my GPU got up to 58 degrees and stayed there.
When i ran prime95 to test my CPU i got
Core 0: 66C
Core 1: 67C
Core 2: 71C
Core 3: 66C

When i ran furmark and prime95 at the same time i got 59C on my GPU and 69C on Core 0
Core 1: 71C
Core 2: 74C
Core 3: 72C

I also ran a 30 min stress test to see how my GPU reacts. I saw no defects except that my GPU went up to 61C instead of 58C

Hi,

I have a Dell Dimension DM061, Pentium CPU 2.80 GHz with 0.99 GB RAM.
It is running Windows XP Service Pack 3.

I've recently had problems with viruses (2) and trojans (13) which I have now managed to remove with Kaspersky. I've also run a number of registry cleaners which seem to have helped get my computer back towards normality.

One problem that remains and is driving me crazy is when I try to play music. When I play music it plays for a while (between a few seconds and ten minutes) before stopping and looping a repetitive beat. The computer locks up completely and I can only restart by powering off. Sometimes the computer emits a continuous beeping sound. This occurs whether I am playing music from a CD, streamed via the Internet or from Windows Media Player. Also crashes when trying to play video with sound - eg crashed earlier when viewing You Tube footage.

From reading previous similar posts my thoughts were it is likely to be caused by hardware failure - either overheating or sound card failure. But I don't really know, hence I was hoping someone could give me some advice!

Thanks in anticipation

Regards
Will

Hey guys,

I'm having a frustrating problem here.

For 3 years, I had a computer that would crash with the blue screen whenever I would run diskeeper or google desktop's page indexing. I didn't really want to fix the problem since without those two programs, it ran pretty smoothly. Warcraft 3 worked fine and everything else as well.

But few days ago, one of the usb ports died (my keyboard stopped working, so I switched the usb port and then it works), and few hours later, the computer turns off. Then, I was left with the dreaded blinking power light. The power wouldn't even turn on.

So, I went out to buy a new PSU (ANTEC 650w) and stripped the computer upto a mobo + CPU. The same problem ensued with the new PSU. So, I thought the mobo died.

Glad to grab the opportunity to upgrade my comp, I bought INTEL DP35DP, Intel e4500, visiontek ati HD 2500, and 2 ocz pc6400 1gb memory. I came back, installed windows and everything, and it's running pretty smoothly. It's not 100% stable, but i can live with that. Now, diskeeper works and indexing page works.

However, when I started to play Warcraft, there was a problem. In the battle.net chatting page, it's fine. But whenever a game starts, in a minute or two, the computer freezes without a blue screen.

So, I'm frustrated and confused right now. The only parts that I didn't change is the hard drives and the cd-roms. Are those causing the problem? Or since the computer freezes when ther... Read more

From the start I?ve used Norton anti-virus, and, more importantly, don?t take risks with unfamiliar computer programs, websites, or email. Other than cookies I don?t recall having any virus/worm/etc. problems. I?ve also used a registry cleaner from time to time.

I have always been very careful about heat issues. I use a gadget that lifts my laptop up off the desk surface and has a constantly running external fan. I keep the room very cool when I?m working on my computer.

I have more than 2,000 mp3 music files in various subfolders within My Music. I can open these music files quickly in editing programs like Au... Read more

If you use the system restore disks from Acer there's a good chance that you'll wipe your hard drive clean. Let's start with some diagnostics and we'll work from there.

Please make the sound freeze several times and note the time on the system clock (in the lower right corner of the screen). We'll use that time to see what errors occurred around that time.

Then, please run these reports (even though you're not experiencing BSOD's): http://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...ta-452654.html

Hello everyone, back a month or so ago, I wish I knew what is causing it but, almost every game (not all or maybe they just didn't get the chance to) crashes to desktop with no error message. After it has already crashed, I cannot go back into the game or for that matter, any other program, be it Skype, be it Google Chrome, be it anything, which attempt always results in a different error message, of which i've seen some say kernel in them. After said game crashes, if I try to go back into it, all the textures are like on a broken TV - crazy lines and such, my only fix is to reboot the computer and hope it won't happen again soon. I am using Windows 7 x64. GTX 750 Ti (used to happen with my older GT 220 as well) Unlocked Athlon II x3 460 to Phenom II x4 B60 (used to happen before I ever initially unlocked the core) and 2x4gb RAM sticks. I have tried using the built in Windows Memory Checker or whatever it is to check if the RAM sticks are holding up and they did not display errors for 2 runs (If required I will do it for more runs). Initially I thought it was Skype, since every time it would crash, skype would die first displaying a "Skype has stopped working error" but me still being able to hear people at the time it's stopped working but them not being able to hear me. So I quit Skype, I never used it again. Problems went away, or so I thought... It started doing the same thing with Mumble. So it wasn't skype. I looked and looked everywhere for solutions and such, so I came... Read more

The best thing you can do is find the minidumps in c:\windows\minidump zip them and attach them to your next post. It sounds driver related.

OK so my computer just crashes the whole computer, the screen turns into a garbled mess, sound keeps looping when i'm playing some certain games like TES 3 and 4, Crysis and some others. So i recently bought a new video card that is so big it barely fits in my case, wants 450 watts of power (i have 650W) so maybe it sucks it all away, it has a huge fan so overheating should not be.

Before i bought this video card i did not have this problem. Is there any fix other than putting back my old video cards?

Hey guys, I have been having a problem ever since I played The Witcher 3. The problem is, I got a new graphics card, an EVGA GTX 980, and my computer crashes when ever I try to play for more than a half hour. The temperatures of my GPU dont seem to be getting that hot, but I could be wrong (I run two different programs for GPU temp, but I usually forget about them. I notice the temp stays around 60 degrees C). Anyways. What do you guys think it could be? I have a 1000 watt power supply, but it COULD be that. I have never had a problem with it before though. Could it be my CPU? I have water cooling for my CPU, and my CPU is an AMD FX-8320. What do you guys think? Please help. Do I need to go buy new RAM? Could faulty RAM cause this? It completely shuts off my computer with no warning signs. The game goes from running smooth, to completely shut off.

Hello, my laptop crashes each time I play games. The crash happens in 3 different forms, sometimes the screen goes weird and then two bands appear, one purple one on top and a whiteish one on bottom, the whiteish band slowly turns green until it completly turns green. The other variants are black screens, but in one form it beeps 3 times after the crash, in the other it doesnt. I tested to see if the laptop would crash with war thunder, I got through the entire menu and to flight test, my plane was in the landing strip, for about 20 seconds, as soon as I pressed the "w" key, the crash happened, it was the purple with green one. I would also like to say that yesterday there were no crashes whatsoever, they just started today. I have a cooler under my laptop at all times. Oh and also, I took the battery out and pressed the power button, then I played an entire match of insurgency without a crash, but then I connected my head set and cooler to the USB ports and it crashed shortly after, dont know if coincidence or something to do with the power. Please help, any help would be appreciated!

A:Computer crashes when playing games

It sounds like a heat issue. Even with a cooler underneath, the internal heat sink may be clogged with dust. I have a cooler under my laptop but the fan kept coming on high all the time. I took it apart, and it was totally clogged. I blew it out with compressed air, took off the heat sink, cleaned it, and put it back on with new thermal paste. Removing the heat sink was probably unnecessary, but I wanted to be sure.

What kind of laptop do you have? There are usually videos on youtube that people have posted on how to take it apart to get at the things you need.

My system is just over a year old now and I have started getting crashes when I play Battlefield 3 this can range from 10 - 30 minutes in to the game. The computer just stops at any random moment and plays the last sound over and over really fast through the speakers.

I have tried a few things as I though I may be over heating so I added 2 more fans and a VGA cooler and was keeping an eye on my temps running up to the crash and it does not get the point where I would think it would crash (Top temp when playing 55c-60c).

Any help with this would be the best as I am at the end of my rope now and I can?t think of anything.

Thanks you for whatever you can do.

My desktop keeps restarting for no apparent reason. It's a gaming desktop--well, as close to one as I've had these last two years, because much of it is sort of old but still runs smoothly enough--and I recently reinstalled Windows 7 to see if that solved the issue, but it didn't. I'll be playing a game and suddenly the computer just crashes. All of my drivers are up to date, I've updated the BIOS in the motherboard, and also updated Windows. I still can't seem to find the issue. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue, probably something with the motherboard because the USB ports act weird at random times; I ran a diagnostic test and it came back with no results. Can anyone help me? I don't know what specs you would need to figure this out but would be happy to provide anything.

Thanks a lot for any help. I'm familiar with computers but not really a techie at all so I can't find the issue...

A:Computer crashes when playing America`s army.

Well for counterstrike, you dont need a heavy duty graphics card.

Specifications
performance class: 5
series: Radeon Xpress
pipeline: 4 pixel-pipelines and 2 vertex-pipelines
clock: chip: 350 MHz
memory: HyperMemory up to 128 MB
directX: 9b, Shader Model 2.0
manufacturers site: product page
application area: small and light-weight notebooks
other informations: same features like Mobility Radeon X300

http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Radeon-Xpress-200M.2175.0.html

i hate to say it, but from the looks of this card, its not the best. It is an integrated card that is soldered onto the motherboard. (of course, its a laptop)

But this card can play games that arent very stressing. However AA is somewhat of a sophisticted game for graphics. It seems that your built in graphics card cannot handle the gameplay. Its simply not powerful enough to play.

Hello Fenrich -
I hope that I have the correct version of "Games" that you have problems with.
Normally this is not a first option, but try to disable UAC while you play a game for a while and see the result.

Post back with results, and any other Event Viewer error if it fails again -

Hello all. I have been having the same problems with my desktop (a Frankenstein's monster of different parts first put together with assistance at the closest Frys store) that have spanned at least a few years. I've needed it for college and it mostly works for what I need it to do so I left it like this but would now like to once and for all solve the problem.

I'm running Windows 7 with a MSI mainboard, AMD FX-4100 CPU, 4 Gigs of RAM, currently connected to a ATI Radeon Graphics card connected to a cheap, old HP Pavilion mx50 monitor.

Okay, so the symptoms. Originally, when my computer was left to idle the monitor would shut down as monitors usually will but along with the monitor the whole system would be in a coma that I couldn't even use the off button to stop. I had to push the switch on the back to turn it off. Now it can idle for at least thirty minutes, but I think if left for an hour or two it does the same thing. Unfortunately I forgot how I managed to improve this problem.

The second problem still happens and is my major concern. When running certain functions the computer will either do the same as above or it will crash and immediately turn off the whole system. I can watch DVDs without problems for several hours and mp4s for at least twenty minutes but if I watch for longer, play Minecraft, or even watch Youtube for a significant portion of time it will crash. When it crashes like this I will usually need to wait for around ten to fifteen ... Read more

Hi everyone,

I dont know why but since about a month ago my computer has started intermitently crashing whenever I play a game of any kind.

It will play for a while - anywhere between 5 minutes and an hour (if im lucky) - and then all of a sudden the screen will go black, almost as if it was turning itslef off and on again, and I get a message saying "no input". The last sound to be played will sometimes go on a continuous loop or the sound will just continue as normal. The computer becomes completely unresponsive and I have to do a forced shutdown just to reset it (it has no reset button anyway).

It seems to do it with any game I play, be they brand new or ones that i've been playing for months so I know its not just a compatability problem.

I have updated the video and graphics drivers about 5 times now, including deleting them and re-installing them from scratch.

Occasionally I will actually get the typical windows message after rebooting saying "your system has recovered from an error, check for solution?" but when I tell it to, it doesnt give me any results. I have expanded the message before and i saw those dreaded words "Blue Screen", but again windows doesnt offer any kind of solution.

Heres the kicker: If I dont play any games, the computer will happily continue running unhindered for hours and hours and hours, playing videos, using the internet, ANYTHING....just wont play games.

Here are the specs;

Hey, first time posting here.
Well I have a problem with my computer that I'd like to fix. As of now I've found the crash problem in only two games: Fallout 3 GOTY and LoL (League of Legends), these games crash respectively after 1 hour and after 10-15 minutes. The crash goes something like this: I'm playing fine and all of a sudden the screen turns black but I can hear sound for 3-4 seconds, after the 3-4 seconds pass there's just a stuttering noise, and I can't do nothing but to restart the PC manually.

All this problem began when I was playing a Fallout 3 DLC, Operation Anchorage, before that Fallout didn't crash or anything, ir worked fine.

I've tried some fixes, like formating the PC, updating the drivers, system restore, and reistalling both the games, nothing worked.

PC Specs:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit Service Pack 1
Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU 540 @3.07GHz
Nvidia GForce 315
4,00GB RAM

So any ideas? And if you need more info tell me, but you gotta know I'm kinda noob on PC's so maybe you gotta explain me.

hello everyone,

I've had a really frustrating problem where my computer crashes about an hour into playing Call of Duty 4. The screen freezes and is accompanied by scrambled audio and a really high pitched beeping noise. The beep doesn't come in intervals it comes in one long beep, like a heart monitor flat-lining. The crash can come within 10 minutes of gameplay or like an hour of gameplay and the only way to recover from the crash is to restart the computer.

I've ruled out problems with my memory (ran memtest fine), and problems with my PSU (installed a 500w PSU recently). All my graphics and audio drivers are up to date. I'm not sure what the problem is.

Here are some system specs:

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual core processor 3800+ @ 2015MHz
2GBs of RAM
ATI Radeon x850 XT
Mobo: ASUS A8N-SLI
SB Audigy 2 ZS
Rosewill 500w PSU(forgot the exact details but i dont see the PSU as the problem)

The causes are sometimes hard to track down, because there are so many possibilities: Excessive heat at the processor from inadequate cooling; Inadequate memory; Value Ram or other slow ram instead of modules with rapid timings; overheated video card; video card with inadequate memory; slow hard drive; cpu heatsink is not firmly seated with thermal paste; too much thermal paste which acts as an insulator; cpu fan is wearing out; dust and hair in any cooling fan or heat sink; hard drive is going bad; too much heat inside or simply inadequate case cooling; power supply is not up to the task and provides less reliable output as it overheats; Sound card is overheating or other PCI card unrelated to what you are doing is bad... such as a modem.
Different techs have various solutions for tracking down the problem, but all of the above may need to be examined before you determine the cause.
Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

My PC specs are,
CPU i5-2500k 3.30GHz
RAM 8GB
GPU GeForce GTX 970 4gb SSC
My power supply is 500W
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

I recently upgraded from a GTX 650 to 970 and the problem is when I play any game with good graphics my computer just freezes with a blue/black screen and I have to hold the power button to turn it off. No the blue screen is not the blue screen of death. I play the games perfectly on low graphics and they don't crash. I checked if my CPU is overheating but it's fine, although it works at around 50-70% power when I play anything. I guessed it might be because there is not enough power so I bought a 750W power supply. I'm almost certain it's not going to fix anything and I'm also guessing it's just my CPU is being bottle-necked by my GPU. Any suggestions on what's the problem?

I hope this is in the right place. If not, I'm sorry.

Anyways, my computer has a problem that has probably existed since I got it, but it's only in the last few months that it has cranked up in frequency other than "extremely rarely". When the problem happens, the computer stops and hangs indefinitely: screen stops updating, sound cuts off immediately. I usually do a hard reset to get on with life. The scary part is that there is no BSOD, and there are no crash dump files generated.

Usually when the problem happens during a game of League of Legends, I quickly reboot and reload back into the game. During this time, gameplay quality is noticeably degraded for the whole duration, and sometimes it gets so bad, I have to lower the graphics settings to make the game playable again. This quality issue goes away if I haven't used the computer for a while.

While this problem does happen when I play League of Legends, it's apparently not unique to that game. It can also happen when I have been on some VOIP service for a very long time, watching streams + playing an intensive flash game (or otherwise asking the Flash VM to do lots of work), or compressing a long series of uncompressed (Fraps) screencapture videos. It gets even weirder: the computer doesn't crash when I'm playing Starcraft 2 or Age of Empires Online, and I frequently get moments in both games where it starts lagging pretty badly (15 fps or less). At least, it hasn't yet.

Some things should be checked there. You are using a version of display driver which was not very stable anytime. It is GeForce 311.06 WHQL

Code:
Driver Version: 9.18.13.1106
As your GPU is GeForce GTX 550 Ti ...... I would suggest you to use NVIDIA DRIVERS 314.22WHQL.

Go to control panel, admin tools and select events. Will show you errors that occurred during the time of your failure. Also, are you monitoring your CPU temp? Sometimes can overheat and die. Use CpuTemp. Serach WEB and you will find. There is an x86 and x64 version.

So I have recently bought a Samsung 850 Evo 120 GB ssd drive. My HP computer now has a 1TB hitachi hard drive and a ssd drive. The computer loads from the SSD drive. To try and maintain space, I have tried to download MS Office on the HDD. But when I install office, while in the middle of installing, my computer always crashes. This has happened on all three of my attempts to install office so far. Is there any reason why I should not be able to install office on the HDD or do I have to install it on the SSD?

Thanks in advance for the help!

It's always best to have your programs loaded onto the Windows drive, which in your case is the Samsung SSD.

It would be best if you could supply a screen shot of Disc Management making sure it covers all discs & the information. This will show if you have any other problems.

Hi, this is kind of a new thing for me posting on forums like this but I really need help.

A few weeks ago now I was around my fiance's house and we decided to swap his old motherboard with the one inside my computer because it was better. Then we found out it didn't work so put my one back.

Since then I have had problems when I try to play games or look at pictures. When I play World of Warcraft it shuts off after two minutes and says I have a Fatal Exception Error. Then I try to play these games I downloaded from the internet and they either just completely crash or my computer restarts. This also happens when I am looking at pictures.
It has only done this a couple of times when I am not doing anything.

It is obviously something that is very frustrating and I am just wondering if it is a Windows thing or to do with me changing motherboards or whether that was just a coincidence. I put this post in the Windows XP support because I am not really sure what the problem is. Should I post in the Motherboard thread as well??

Can someone help please? I really have no clue about computers.

Please only ask you question in one forum, its against the rules to start multiple threads about the same thing because it can cause confusion for the staff and those helping you.

First off I need to say I have updated ALL drivers. This is a brand new custom build gaming computer with a quad core Q8200 2.33 GHz. 4GB ram, and a Radeon HD 4870 1GB. I use a 550w Power supply (brand new as well).

Attached: Dxdiag.exe
Recorded GPU temperture during crash

What happens is in most high graphic games my computer will randomly shut down into a black screen with my monitor looking like it is in standby mode. Then either two things will happen, the first is the sound will instantly turn into a rapid repeating noise, or the sound will continue as if i am still playing the game, but after a good 30 sec, it will turn into the rapid repeat noise as well.

Once or twice I have gotten vertical bars across my whole monitor, not artifacts, just vertical bars. Along with the rapid repeat sounds.

I have done everything trying to fix this computer, but I just don't know what causes these crashes! I've heard a lot of people complain about my graphics card, because it is Asus brand, but I even RMA it to Asus and they sent it back saying it was completely fine.

So please help if you can,
Thanks.

Hello,

Lately there are weird things going on with my computer.

Firstly, on the 07/01/2014 I had a BSOD. Details below :
71d3160702ca3f91376bc753df0c5547.png (unfortunately my MiniDump folder is empty, so this is all I can provide)

And ever since then every time I come home, and turn my computer on, I log in and after approximately 5-10 minutes, the computer shuts it self down, or freezes and I have to boot it.

Usually, my computer shuts down when I start playing a game, and freezes when I just sit on the desktop, writing on skype etc.

I have completed a SFdebugFiles and I am attaching below (It doesnt let me upload msinfo32 file)

A:BSOD, Then random computer crashes when playing, freezes on startup.

Also, would reinstalling windows system be a solution ? I was thinking about doing it anyways

Hello,

Recently my computer has been crashing within 30 minutes of playing certain games, but not others. When it crashes, it gives the following message, then the screen gets those purple and green artifacts and doesn't work anymore:

The instruction at 0x00676da6 referenced memory at 0x00000008. The memory could not be read.

Click on OK to terminate the program

The thing is, it is only doing it on certain games (Age of Wonders 3, Starcraft II, Might and Magic X Legacy) and not others (Skyrim, Dragon Age 2, Elemental: Fallen Enchantress) and seems to do it out of the blue (not in any particular instance or when the graphics/FPS are intense). The only correlation between the first games is that I installed them this year. My build of Skyrim is far more memory intensive than the other games.

Any ideas as to what the problem could be? At this point I'm thinking it might just be because my hard drive is getting old. Here are some of the fixes I've tried, they haven't worked:

Update drivers for all devices
Windows System Restore
Uninstalling and Reinstalling the offending games
Increasing the paging file size for virtual memory
Running the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
Running CCleaner

Nothing has worked so far. I'd just like to identify the issue. My NVIDIA graphics card is only 4 years old, but my motherboard and hard drive are 7 years old. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Thanks

Hey guys, I recently had my computer crash on me for the first time in a long time. After it rebooted, I noticed that random audio was playing in the background. It almost sounds like a bunch of pop-up ads are open at once, but there are none open on my computer. In my volume mixer, the sound source is listed as "Host Process for Windows Services."

I have been trying to fix this on my own, but I have been unsuccessful. So far I have tried scanning with Malwarebytes/Spybot Search and Destroy, used CCleaner, used TDSSKiller and Rkill, and did a Combofix scan. Even after using all of those tools, the sounds still play, and the computer crashes after a random amount of time. Sometimes the crash happens after only a few minutes, and sometimes it happens after a couple hours. I would also like to note that the Malwarebytes and Spybot scans came up clean. I have my combofix log but I think I'm not supposed to post it here.

I would appreciate any help/advice that you have for me.

Thanks.

My computer has been freezing for some time now while playing any game. It usually happens between 0-25 minutes of playing the game. I have talked to Dell and they have done everything they can (Reinstalled Windows 7, replaced heatsink, reinstalled all my drivers for me, wiped hard drive) for me and I'm not even under warranty so that's pretty cool. My temperatures are normal so it's not an overheating issue. The only thing that I think is left is that my motherboard is out of whack.

Another note to add is that it will sometimes get very laggy and the sound will get very techno sounding (if that makes sense) when I have my computer on my lap and it's not completely flat. It does not fully crash though when this happens and it will subside after about a minute.

Whenever I play fullscreen games such as League of Legends or Diablo. After about a couple of minutes, it will randomly crash. I've done a reformatting on the computer to no avail (the problem still persists). Not sure if it's a hardware issue and if I should get the graphics card replaced.

I've also updated all of my drivers so I know the problem isn't with not having updated drivers.

When it crashes, the screen has rainbow streaks, and the audio starts looping. I have to restart just to go back into my game and whatnot.

Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium

(Ingame for league, I turned off video sync and I have settings on low)

Suggestions on how to fix this problem? Should I downgrade my drivers?

Nvida Geforce GT 630
AMD A8-5600K APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 3.60 Ghz
8.00 GB Ram

How can I debug this problem?

Also I can't access the boot menu to format from the CD/USB. It takes me to the "start windows normally start windows in safe mode etc" screen.

I've tried all the F keys including the escape key and none of them work, because they all take me to the same screen. The only way I can reformat my computer is by doing it through the actual windows itself. I can't even make my current partition active for some reason even though I'm administrator.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I have windows 7 installed on a PC I built a little over a year ago. I recently upgraded to the windows 8 consumer preview, but I didn't like it so I'm trying to switch back. When I install windows it works fine, I can turn my computer off and on as many times as I want and it will be fine, but if I install any video card drivers or any of the updates that windows tells me to install, the next time it boots up I either get the windows splash screen or a black screen right after it says, "starting windows", and shows the 4 orb things that spin around and turn into the windows logo. It stays on this screen for 5-10 seconds and then continues to black or the splash screen.
I have tried installing only my video card driver, I have tried installing only one of the recommended updates, but no matter what I install it doesn't work the next time it boots, so I don't think it's a problem with one specific driver. However I have selected only the ones that started with: important windows update, or something like that, none of the security updates or anything and those installed successfully.
I have reset my bios and changed every setting I can think of, but nothing works. I have also completely formatted and re-patitioned my hard drive. I have basically reset my computer as much as possible without building a new one.
What else can I do? I need to install my video card driver at the very least or I can't play games, which is the whole reason I built a PC

A:My computer crashes while playing video games (solid color, looping noise)

This is caused by a dying video card or a corrupt video card driver. Try going to AMD's support website and download and install the latest driver for your version of Windows. Pay attention to whether you have a 32 or 64 bit version of Windows

It's a very annoying problem. If I play any sound (music, videos, games) for about 3 minutes, the system locks up and it makes the most terrible noise, and I have to reset. It runs perfectly in Safe Mode (most likely because Safe Mode doesn't activate the sound hardware), and in standard mode as long as it doesn't play music.

It first happened after I played a game of FEAR 2, I closed the game and the system crashed with a BSoD that disappeared too quickly for me to get any info. I've gotten some "page error in non-paged file" BSoDs, and most recently "driver irql not less or equal than" BSoDs (or something along those lines), but that hasn't happened recently. Usually it just locks up now with the noise.

I'm running Windows 7 on an Asus P5QL-E mobo, Intel C2D E8400 Wolfdale @ 3.00GHz CPU, ATI Radeon HD4850 GPU, 4GB of RAM, and the sound card is the mobo's onboard card.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Windows 7 crashes when playing sound

Hi IncoherentMoron and welcome to Se7en Forums

This sounds (please forgive the pun) like a driver issue. Download the latest driver from here (you will have to accept the disclaimer): Realtek

You might need to follow the instructions in this Tutorial from our sister site in order to update the driver (this is the method that I use): Device Manager - Install Driver - Vista Forums

Hope this helps.

Hi Madrigal998,

Welcome to the 10forums.

Do you have another GPU you can use?
The crashes are caused by the GPU part of the APU, but this occurs a lot with users that have an a10 k processor.

These were very similar and caused by your e1q62x64.sys. That I believe is an intel network driver.

Needs to be re-installed.

Hey guys,
Im having a huge problem with my computer at the moment and that problem is the BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death.)
It seems this only happens when I play ARMA 2, it never did this in any other game except ARMA. The game loads up fine I can get to the main menu without a problem but come time to join a server when thats done loading BAM BSOD. Or if im lucky I'll be able to play for a half hour tops. This angers me because I paid 40$ for a game I now cannot play.

Motherboard: MSI MS-7380

A:Windows 7 Crashes only when playing ARMA2?

Best thing to do to get some help is to upload your DMP file.

Navigate to
Windows>Minidump> (DMP File)

Zip it together or rar. Then people will have a start to debugg it.

Also what settings are you running this game at? I've had BSOD screen pop up if I pushed really hard graphics out of my laptop. But that was just a graphic card driver update that fixed that for me at least.

For the last 3 months I struggle to fix this problem with no success. At first I thought the hdd was failing but replacing it with a new one and clean installing new windows 10 pro didnt solve anyrthing. I still get Blue screen with sad face problem or black screen and either the pc hard crashes and resets or I have to manually restart it. 9 out of 10 times it happens during playing games and not one particular. After extended reading through forums and constantly looking the event viewer I understand I have same corrupted files in the system that cannot be fixed. I did the dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and it clearly states that I have some corrupted files in the system and cannot be repaired. Please help me solve this and tell me if you know how did it appear in the first place because i used this system for over a year without any problems and suddenly without changing anything  (software or hardware) this happens... I am from Greece so excuse my english:)

Also for some strange reason both windows 7 and 10 seems to think that something is wrong with my hard drive and continues to give me errors reffering to it, which clearly is not the case because its a brand new ssd and all the test I did incuding a 12 hour memtest for the ram come out just fine.

Here are the info of the system :

A:Windows 7 and 10 crashes after 10-15 mins of playing games.

My grandson has been having this problem for months.  Ran memory diagnostic and found no errors.  There are zillions of errors in the event log.  Anxious to hear of a solution.  We upgraded to windows 10.  Upgraded the video card and the processor.

This crash just happened today.
MAINPC-2015_08_23_184433_20.zip

A:Windows 8.1 (AMD), crashes when playing online video

Hi beneficii,

The crashes are mostly caused due to the GPU driver ATI Video driver ( atikmdag.sys) and 1 by a touchpad driver called SynTP.sys
Please check your manufacturers site for updates for AMD GPU drivers and the touchpad.
If the drivers for the AMD GPU are already up to date, try to remove the Catalyst Control Center and only install the Display Driver.

ok problem solvers and lateral thinkers - lets see can anyone get their head around this one as it is driving me round the bend.

So... I have a media centre PC connected to my HDTV by VGA cable. I ran the PC on XP for a long time but last December, I upgraded it to Windows 7 along with my laptop.

Cue 5 months of seamless media usage and network integration - it worked like a dream and I played both HD and SD content with ease.

About two weeks ago, I was watching an HD '.mkv' file and about 10 minutes into the video, the video file just hung - both the video and the audio. I had to power down and restart the machine and started the video file again. About 5 minutes after re-starting the video file, it hung again (not at the same place in the video). I then went and watched the video on my laptop where it worked fine.

A few days after this (first time I had used it again since it hung up) I began watching an SD '.avi' file. About 1 minute into the video the display lost it's signal (the little built in 'no signal' graphic came up) and after a further 15 seconds, the audio cut out as well.

This latter behaviour is now happening every single time I try to watch any kind of SD or HD video of any file extention. This problem is also independant of what video player I use (windows media centre and windows media player classic) After a minute or so the display cuts out and the audio quickly follows it.

Suffice to say, I was a little annoyed but knowing a good ... Read more

Hello,

I hope someone here is able to help. Basically I bought this computer in about January and for the first 3 months it was amazing (iBuypower from tigerdirect). After that it just started randomly crashing during World of Warcraft and then it started crashing more frequently with every game. The first time it crashed, I thought it was my new keyboard (Razer Lycosa) but then I re-installed Windows 7 two more times and it still crashed even with a different keyboard. I'm extremely frustrated and I've tried just about everything to my knowledge so I would appreciate it greatly if someone knew what the problem was and could help me out.

Here is my computer information:

OS - Windows 7 Home Premium
64-Bit
Windows 7 Home Premium
OEM Version
8 Months
2 Days, Reinstalled 2 Times
Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz
XFX Radeon 5570 1GB
?
650W

Thanks a lot. If there is any more information required please let me know.

A:BSOD - Windows Crashes from Playing Video Games

There are no memory dump files in the uploaded reports. Please do the following:

Quote:

Please check in C:\Windows for a file named MEMORY.DMP. If you find it, zip it up and upload it to a free file hosting service . I recommend Windows Live SkyDrive - http://skydrive.live.com or another free, file-hosting service. Then post the link to it in your topic so that we can download it.

Then, follow the directions here to set your system for Minidumps (much smaller than the MEMORY.DMP file): http://www.carrona.org/setmini.html

There is one STOP 0xA error listed in the MSINFO32 report. While waiting for further BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these directions:

Quote:

Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Creat... Read more

Hoping you can give me a bit of guidance. Comp originally crashed on me two times within the an hour. It's running normally and suddenly it completely switches off. No freezing, no BSOD, no error message, just off. Started up again no problem. I'm running an ASUS gaming laptop with i7 core, GTS 360 video card and windows 7. I've now had symptoms of freezing, and BSOD while playing league of legends. Symptoms seem to be worse when the system is working harder. Temperature has been as high as 80 degrees which I've been told is actually within specs for my machine. I bought a cooling mat but symptoms have still occurred with lower temps of 60 degrees. That said they do seem to be worse when hot.

I've attached the BSOD crash logs as suggested. This is my first time so if anything is wrong please let me know and I'll fix it up.

A:BSOD ccuring in windows. Associated crashes playing League of Legends

Hi Lance.

I've seen this software causing BSOD's in the past I'd suggest you uninstall it completely. Use Revo uninstaller Free to do that. Two threads that were solved after removing the software: BSOD - Bad_Pool_Header

Download and install Revo Uninstaller free from here: Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

Opt for "Advanced Mode" and uninstall the software (also delete the leftover registry entries).

Please update the drivers listed below, if there are no updates uninstall the software below also, with revo uninstaller.

I have a problem with my PC. At first I thought it was happening when running The Sims (1), but I have found out that the problem is actually happening when playing any sound files.A brief history.I am running Windows 2000 sp4.I basically never use my PC to play games or listen to music, so I never have my speakers turned on.A month or so ago, I wanted to start playing The Sims again and proceeded to reinstall the game, and several expansion packs. The game ran fine, and has run fine in the past, but halfway through the process of installing the expansions , I noticed that my CD drive was making a grinding sound when loading/ejecting disks.I replaced the unit I had with an IOMAGIC 52x Internal IDE drive. The drive works fine and there were no drivers needed, it works with the cd burning software that came with the old drive. The point being that I didn't have to install any new software or drivers. The only odd thing that happened is that, when I installed the new drive, my modem quit working.I seem to have had this problem before when I added some other piece of equiptment, possibly an extra hard drive.I finally got the modem working, after physically disconnecting it, starting up the PC, and the reconnecting it and reinstalling the modem drivers.Anyway, the modem in question shows up as follows:Modem: Intel? 536EP Modem #9Attached to: COM10For some reason, all the other COM ports COM1 through COM9 show as "in use" even though I dont think I have anything using mo... A few days back my windows xp started crashing when it was starting(ie when the windows xp logo is displayed and a bar keeps moving to show that its working).I was only able to access the comp in safe mode.So i removed all the necessary items from my C: to d: and formatted the system for reinstalling windows with my windows xp cd.

now,the comp formatted the whole c drive and then it restarts to install windows...here the installation hangs at various places i have tried instaling it over 50 times and the closest it got to completing was when it said "Time remaining for instalation : 4 minutes".

Is it an hardware failure? do i have to replace any hardware and how much will it cost ? :(

A:Windows XP crashes while installing

Most likely hardware failure. The cost depents what you have to replace. My guess would be faulty memory. Had the same situation few years ago myself and it was because of that. Then again it could also be overheating or bad harddrive or stuff like that. First, download and try memtest (google for link).

Right I am installing Windows Xp home from a legit disk, which I have used before. I got it installed fine, then I realised I didn't give windows a 20gb partition and instead let it use the whole hard drive which is what I didn't want to do. I decided just to reformat the hard drive for the second time today as I had a lot of time on my hands.

I began the reformat and it all went smoothly, when it got to the bit where it reboots to go into the actual windows it did that, but as it booted up I just got BSOD after BSOD. So I tried booting into the windows disk again...

As soon as I get to the page where it asks me if I want to "Install, Repair or Exit" my computer stalls for 5 seconds and then turns itself off.
I've checked all my hardwire diagnostically (Taking out pieces and seeing if the problem still occurs) but it still happens every time.

I've got a
Pentium 4 at 3.0ghz
Foxconn motherboard (Not sure which model)
1gb 3200 dim ram and another 512mb ram (I have tried with or without each one)
An 80gb hard drive
And a dvd drive.
Any ideas on how I can fix this? It is becoming very frustrating and I've even screwed up my mums computer from trying to switch my hard drive with hers etc etc but i've fixed that now.

Thanks

A:Installing windows crashes

Perhaps by now you have solved the problem.

Shutdown problem - power supply or overheating cpu top my list.

Use a different boot media to confirm if is related to windoze: ubantu, bartpe, ultimate boot cd, etc.

Hello All

I have an HP Pavilion p7-1254 (at least started as that, had some stuff upgraded, explained below), AMD A6-3620 2.2Ghz Quad Core with AAHD2-HL board; save you the time of looking it up if needed. What happens is the system with will just freeze. Occasionally the audio that was playing with stutter infinitely like a skipping CD. Rarely I notice the system will stutter once or twice before totally freezing, happens in a couple seconds. But mostly, it just stops. When it freezes, the only option is to hard reboot.

I have had this problem for quite some time, probably about a year or two. At first I really didn't notice any consistency in the crashes, seems totally random. Some times it would freeze while browsing any random page, be it videos, forums, ad ridden or ad free. Any browser as well; Chrome, Firefox, IE. It also crashes when playing some games although not other games that have higher requirements; e.g. Guaranteed to crash, probably within 10 mins, if I play '8-bit Boy' on Steam (about as low res as implied) but I can go on 4 and 5 hour binges on Elder Scrolls Online or Skyrim with no crashes. I have recently noticed that YouTube videos (any video) is a guaranteed crash within a 20-30 seconds.

I have tried everything I have been able to find to do, to try and fix this issue; but none have worked. So far the hardware parts that have been replaced with new components are the RAM (now 2x4GB GEIL Enhanced Corsa PC3-12800), HDD (now 2TB WD Cavi... Read more
