Please remove any CD/DVD virtualization software, such as Daemon Tools/Alcohol 120%, as they use a driver called sptd.sys that is known to cause BSODs. Use add/remove programs to remove the software. After removing the software, use the sptd.sys uninstaller to remove sptd.sys from the system.

I prefer TotalMounter as my CD/DVD virtualization software as it allows me to burn images to a virtual CD/DVD if I just want an ISO file instead of a disc, and it is free.

Many use MagicISO - Convert BIN to ISO, Create, Edit, Burn, Extract ISO file, ISO/BIN converter/extractor/editor as well, which is also free.
Crashes are pointing to memory problems or driver conflicts.If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

Before you proceed with the following, answer these two questions: Are you still under warranty? Does your warranty allow you to open up the machine to check hardware? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, contact your system manufacturer. WARNING: The steps that follow can void your warranty!!!

For Part 3: If You Have Errors: If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:Shut down and turn off your computer.
Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working. If you do not have an anti-static workbench, desk, or pad, you can use your computer tower/case by finding a metal hold in it, such as a drive bay.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

An underlying driver may be incompatible\conflicting with your system. Run Driver Verifier to find any issues. To run Driver Verifier, do the following:a. Backup your system and user files
b. Create a system restore point
c. If you do not have a Windows 7 DVD, Create a system repair disc
d. In Windows 7:Click the Start Menu
Type verifier in Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click verifier and click Run as administrator
Put a tick in Create custom settings (for code developers) and click next
Put a tick in Select individual settings from a full list and click next
Set up the individual settings as in the image and click next

Put a tick next to all non-Microsoft drivers.
Click Finish.
Restart your computer.

If Windows cannot start in normal mode with driver verifier running, start in safe mode. If it cannot start in safe mode or normal mode, restore the system restore point using System Restore OPTION TWO.

If you are unable to start Windows with all drivers being verified or if the blue screen crashes fail to create .dmp files, run them in groups of 5 or 10 until you find a group that causes blue screen crashes and stores the blue screen .dmp files. The idea with Verifier is to cause the system to crash, so do the things you normally do that cause crashes. After you have a few crashes, upload the crash reports for us to take a look and try to find patterns.

When you are ready to disable Verifier: Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right click Command Prompt -> Run as administrator -> Type the following command and then Enter:verifier /reset-> Restart your computer.

Hello everyone,

I am running Windows 7 Utimate 64-bit and I have gotten many random BSOD's while being use on internet . I have opened the dump files. And all of them say that probable cause is: ntoskrnl.exe ( nt+71f00 ).

Only ran the 9 memory dumps from July - the one's from May (a total of 21) suggest the same thing.
The 9 from July are STOP 0x1 errors - Although I did see one STOP 0x119 (video driver) error in the May dumps along with several other errors blaming your ATI video drivers.

If you haven't done anything to fix the May errors (there were no errors in June), then please do the following:
- download the Display Driver only (NOT the entire Catalyst Control Center) from Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD
- uninstall the current ATI stuff from your system
- install the Display Driver and monitor for further BSOD's.

Then, if the errors are still occurring, try running Driver Verifier according to these directions:

just got a new comp and final fantasy 14, put it in clicked english for my language and boom blue screen, didnt even get a chance to install and it happened 5 times after troubleshooting, i got system_service_exceeption for an error, finally found my dump files and zipped it with a system health report. please if anyone can decipher this THANKS IN ADVANCE

I'm hoping someone can help me with my problem. I have Windows 7 Home 64-bit. Whenever I try to upload a document (like an email attachment) I get the BSOD. It occurs when my document box pops up so I can select the document I want to attach. The box doesn't fully load - and BSOD. Your BSODs are all stop 0x109 and they are not showing any possible cause.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

Stress test the CPU.
Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95

If those tests are free from errors, enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.



   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.



   Tip

If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode. Disable DV there. Now boot normally again, and try following the instruction of enabling DV again.

Hey everyone so I've been having some issues lately with my laptop bluescreening randomly. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and can't seem to figure out what exactly is the issue with my computer. I've run chkdsk and have found no bad sectors as well as ran memtest 86 for 5 passes on each stick and came back ok. Also ran sfc /scannow and it came back with no errors. When I do get a blue screen the error it says is something like IRQL_DRIVER or something along those lines...so maybe it's possibly a driver issue? All my drivers have been updated.

So I attached 4 dump files and was wondering if someone could read them for me and possibly point me in the right direction?

Your video driver, re-install using this method.

When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver. In order to do that we recommend using Guru3D - Driver Sweeper
Or Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.

I've been having BSoD's for well over a year now, once or twice almost every day. I've tried multiple times to figure out whats wrong but... I dont have ANY dump files.

I've followed instructions on how to enable them but it still doesn't create a file. Im really hoping you all can help me out here.

The current settings are:
Page files on both hard drives enabled.
Set custom page size to 17000MB-20000MB
System managed size and no paging file boxes are unchecked
Write an event to system log box checked
Automatically restart unchecked
Debug information set to small memory dump/kernal. Both settings dont work
Overwrite existing file box is greyed out when debug is set to small memory. Checked when set to kernal
Small and kernal memory dump location set to C:\Windows\Minidump and C:\Windows\Memory.DMP I created these folders as they were not present

I got a SSD awhile back and use it for my windows. However i didnt reformat my other hard drive and windows is still installed on the old one however i boot from the SSD (maybe this is some how the problem)

Im using WhoCrashed from Resplendence Software - Advanced System Tools and Developer Components to force a BSoD when trying to creat a dump file.

There are NO files in either folder. Both on the SSD or old hard drive.

I've searched many forums now and found others with what seems to be the same problem but with no solutions. I would VERY much appreciate the help!

Hello!

I've done a forum search before opening a new topic, and the solutions I found in other topics are for reading BSOD minidumps, not application dump files, so for example BlueScreenView won't do me any good.

I have a 3rd party application that crashes frequently. The last time I created a dump file. After searching google for the better part of an hour on how to read dump files of applications specifically, I only came up with using dumpchk.exe for a solution, but the dump file is so large, I can not read the entire dump in the command line.

Is there a 3rd party application I can read entire dump files with?

The short version is you don't. Dump files are really only useful if you have access to the source code of the program they're for, so even if you could read them, it wouldn't help you much. Those dump files are intended for Microsoft's developers to be able to analyze what was going on at the time and determine if it had anything to do with Windows (or some other MS program). They're not intended for the average person, even the average developer.

Hello,
I am wanting to start reading my own dump files on Microsoft OS's (primarily 7 and 8) so I can figure out problems for myself. I have Windows Debugger (WinDbg) installed and have read a few guides but they are vague. There is still a whole lot I need to
learn. Any guides you guys can recommend? Maybe something a whole lot easier and more detailed or another debugger.

I've been having several regular BSOD(s) for the past two weeks. I suspect that my core is failing.

I reapplied some thermal paste and the temp is 20 degrees lower than it was running before I changed it. The voltage running through it seems to be normal.

I keep trying to pinpoint the exact errors, but my windbg keeps telling me I don't have the right symbols (even though they're configured to Microsoft's symbol server) to read WEA_ERROR_RECRODs.

Can someone with properly configured symbols paste the WEA error logs (!errrec)? That would really help me since I'm pretty much at a dead end since I can't get windbg to cooperate. Or is anyone able to help me pinpoint the exact trouble?'

I've already spent many hours:
memtest86 says my 4 sticks of memory are fine (ran from bootable CD)
western digital data scan says my hard drive is fine (ran from bootable CD)

I have a workstation that has started crashing on the 17th.


It seems to go down 4-6 times per day. Previously it had only crashed 2 times in about 2 years. I asked the user if they had installed anything differently or if they had power issues and was told no.

I have never been great at trying to read dumps, so I am posting here to ask for help .

First, the cause of your issue cited in all your minidump files is nvufmz.sys but the bad news is there is absolutely nothing on the internet concerning what appears to be a driver.

Second, it is preventing both your Symantec and your Broadcom wireless driver b57xp32.sysw from loading.

Hi, I was trying to figure out what caused the Stop error I last encountered. I tried searching for any clues on Windows XP's mini dump, but I can't seem to find it. All I see are drivers loaded at that time, but the actual file I'm searching for, the file that caused the crash as indicated on the Stop error, is not there. It's actually Speedbit's Video Accelerator file, sbbotdi.sys. I have to find that out the hard way - waiting for the PC to trigger the stop error again. I saw people here asking for the minidump and replying with the exact file that caused the error. Thanks a lot

just a suggestion if you haven't tried it yet but go to the home site of the company and inquire of them of the file and any related problems that might cause this

you might get the info you are lookin for there and reasons as why it is causing the error

for this sounds like it is an application error that is related to the program and not an issue of windows

i may be wrong !!!!

but the makers of the program should be able to answer your questions , if not check back you may find that you may have other advice waiting here

Im sorry that no one has responded but i do have a suggestion. Most ppl with BSOD expertise search the SF site for BSOD in the title.. You might have more response if you change the title to BSOD and told us a lot more info abt your system.. there is a section in your user CP just for that. Fill it in change the title and I know at least 2 users that will help you fix this

Hi all
I get a BSOD whenever I attempt to enter sleep mode. The screen turns off, but the lights and fan don't, and eventually the computer just turns off. After rebooting it, I receive a "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" message. Using BlueScreenView I found out that the problem was caused by ntoskrnl.exe, but can't figure anything else out. I'd appreciate any help

STOP 0x0000009F: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
Usual causes: Device driver

Your dump file blame Windows System files which is highly unlikely to be the cause.
Old and incompatible drives can and do cause issues with Windows 7.

As a Priority:

The sptd.sys driver is notorious for causing BSOD's with Windows 7. It's used by Daemon Tools /Alcohol 120 which will also have to be uninstalled.
Then use the correct (either 32bit or 64bit) download from Duplex Secure to uninstall the SPTD.SYS driver.
Make sure to select uninstall!
Virtual Drives
Some alternatives to DT/Alcohol that do not use SPTD.SYS (In no order).
DVDFab
MagicDisc
PowerISO (The program is a trial but the drive emulation is free forever).

I am very consistently having my system lock up for no apparent reason, it freezes and then the screen goes black and I can't do anything. Sometimes I have to restart multiple times to get it back up and running again. I thought it was my Nvidia driver because one time I received a BSOD with the code nvlddmkm.sys, but after upgrading to the latest driver the issue still persists. I don't get a BSOD, just a complete system freeze.

I have attached the dump files and hope that someone much smarter than me can figure it out!

I have been getting random BSOD particularly when playing videos. I have tried updating videocard drivers but this has not solved the problem.

I have windows 7 x86 (32bit) Full retail, (upgraded from windows xp) installed a few months ago.The system is 4 years old.

First please update your System Specs.

HOW TO FILL OUT YOUR SYSTEM SPECS

In the line at the top of “www.SevenForums.com” you will see UserCP.
That is an abbreviation for User Control Panel.
Click on UserCP.
In the left-hand column, under Your Profile you will see Edit System Spec.
Click on Edit System Spec
You can copy and paste from the output of Speccy, http://www.piriform/com/speccy to fill out much of the info. Be sure to use the Other Info section of your System Specs for such info as your optical drive, your wireless adapter, your speakers, etc.


Your NVidia NForce Network Controller is old. Please update.

Recently purchased the following laptop:

Acer Aspire 5542-5462

AMD Turion II M500 2.2ghz
4GB DDR2
500GB SATA
Windows7 Home Premium

Pulled it out of the box Friday, plugged in the power cord and started it up. Went through initial setup in ~30min. Loaded Win7 for first time and began setting things up. All of a sudden I get BSOD. I didn't notice what the first one was for but every time I restarted it'd run for a few minutes then BSOD, usually for a different reason every time. Called Acer tech and they had me do a full system restore from boot.......long story short it didn't help at all. I've since borrowed a know clean Win7 disc from a friend and completely reinstalled on fresh partition. It ran great for the first hour or so but reverted back to BSOD's every 5 min. BSOD seems to happen while doing some kind of activity like web browsing or file browsing. Hasn't happened with computer just sitting idle.

Approximate BSOD titles:

15% of time: irq not less or equal
25% of time: win32k.sys
60% of time: memory_management, or fltmgr.exe, others unnamed, or I didn't catch in time.

I attached a .zip of the memory dumps so far.

I appreciate any help on this. Hate to have to revert to Win7 32bit and only use 3gb of ram.

These were caused by your network driver. The intel wifi driver needs to be re-installed with a fresh copy. Go to the mfr and download and install it.

Many have simply reinstalled Vista when seeing the "Physical memory dump failed with status 0XC0000010" error repeatedly without any memory dumps being seen. Your next step would be looking in the event viewer logs which can sometimes point to a company name.

For the "Stop: 0X0000007A" error the MS information on that goes back as far as Windows 2000.

"This issue can occur if you have the UlraDMA66/ATA66 (80 wire/40 pin) IDE cable attached to the drive that you are trying to install Windows 2000 on. Windows 2000 does not fully support the UltraDMA66 controller."

ARGH!! Win7 sometimes makes me feel like such a NOOB! I've read and re-read every post in the How to. Unfortunately many of the writers are not referencing Win7. Links go to XP references. File locations sound more like XP than even Vista and certainly not Win7. Control panel references for enabling dumps do not correlate to any Win7 views.

I've run SF Diagnostic Tool v2.02 and it finds 0 files.

I have been having a number of hangs and BSOD's and need to go beyond the event logs to figure out the cause.

Here is what I have. Lenova A63 Desktop with Windows 7 Pro 32bit, about 1 yr old. AMD Athlon II X2 processor, original OEM OS with no re-installs. Bluescreen comes up and goes away all by itself and then OS restarts. I know i don't have an antivirus installed as I just removed AVG today as I thought it was creating a seperate problem unrelated. Planning to re-install asap.

Maybe a year or a year and a half ago, my computer would randomly crash and restart on me with no real correlation to any program. It only happened every other month or every two months, so I figured it was just a weird fluke. Perhaps the computer wanted to take a nap? (A couple of the crashes happened over night) Anyway, I didn't really think anything of it because it was stable most of the time.

Now, things are quite different. Sometimes it crashes multiple times in one day, but still always at random times. Once when I started burning a DVD, once when I closed a video game, just whenever it felt like it. When it started getting annoying, I decided to finally take action. I figured out how to stop it from immediately restarting so I could have a chance to read the BSOD, and I found the culprit. IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

A few google searches led me to believe that this is caused by a faulty driver or faulty memory. I didn't really know how to test the drivers, so I updated them the best I could, then focused on testing the memory. I've had problems with it before, like not able to run at it's listed timings without errors, so I dialed them back. I ran trusty MemTest 86+ for the night only to find no errors in the morning. Stumped, I decided to punt the problem off for another day. Of course, the crashes kept happening, and for the longest while, it was the same not less or equal error.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Daemon Tools at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :
Double click to open it.
Click this button only:

If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
And test you HDD using HGST WinDFT. Let us know the result.

Now let us know if the BSODs are continuing or not. If it continues, take a camera snap of the BSOD screen and upload it here.

I've got absolutely no clue what is going on with my computer. I've gotten these 2 kinds of blue screens. Sometimes it will even restart without me seeing a BSoD.

(I only JUST uninstalled AVG because I had read it can cause problems with what I'm having.. obviously didn't fix it.)

I can't even get into the forums long enough to get the information written down before it crashes so I got pictures of the Bluescreenviewer information using my phone.

I only know of one thing that could possibly cause this and that is I used to have 4 GB of ram and one of the cards doesn't work and crashes my computer, so I took it out. This was a long time ago and I fixed it. But only recently these problems have started, and I haven't downloaded anything besides an update to my anti-virus which I uninstalled and the drivers for my network card.

Any tips?
UPDATE: I ran a memory test overnight and it ran 12 times. No errors whatsoever.

Your logs show a problem with DeepFrz.sys. It is a driver for Deep Freeze software. You could re-install, un-install, or upgrade it; or check with the manufacturer (Faronics) to see if the have a solution.

Hi everyone.
I've been getting a BSOD for a few days, and I don't know why.
And now it's gotten to the point where as soon as Windows finishes loading, it crashes immediately.
The install of XP is pretty fresh, and there are no malicious programs, trojans, viruses, or spyware.
The laptop runs fine in safe mode without any freezing or crashing.
I have run memtest for a while, and no errors come up.
I tried running hard drive test, but since my laptop needs to load special drivers from a floppy disk, I couldn't run a complete drive test.

Here is the BSOD error message:

I can't read the rest because the computer auto-restarts too quickly.

1. This very often is a RAM problem. If you have more than one stick of RAM (256MB or more) swap them over or take one out and try again with only stick #1. If it does not help or makes things worse swap the sticks and try again with only stick #2. This will identify if you have a bad stick.

2. It could also be a driver issue.The fact that the machine is OK in Safe Mode points to this .
Turn off automatic rebooting (you can do this in Safe Mode)
Right-click My Computer / Properties / Advanced / Startup and Recovery/Settings.
Under System Failure, uncheck the Automatically restart check box
Apply/OK

Reboot into normal mode
You will then get a BSOD with error message which will help identify the problem. You will now be able to read all the STOP message. Look if there is a driver mentioned "*****.sys" and post back

Hey guys,
I have a problem with my computer. I have it just for like a month or so and I already had several BSODs (actually 8 of them). They all happened in 2 situations. First during rendering in 3D Studio Max and second during playing Starcraft 2. Rendering might be even problem of 3Dstudio so I'm going to pay attention to those happened while playing.
Problem is that first two happened longer time ago and I didn't payed to much attention to them, because I thought they were random crashes. But today they started to happen after around one hour of playing. I had three of them today in during few hours.
The thing is that everytime it's different kind of BSOD and different driver causing it. I tried to look into the .dmp files and I was able to get the drivers from them.
First was:

Recently I have had a few crashes on my windows 8.1 laptop.
I have tried to attach the 3 most recent zipped dump files, but they're 100mb and too big to attach, so have uploaded the most recent one to here and the previous crash to here

I have attached screen shots of the system information -system summary

Hoping someone is able to see why it keeps crashing. Recently a friend of mine updated the bios, ran cc cleaner on it, did all the windows updates and optimized it, which I hoped would cure this issue, but it's still happening.

I started noticing that my newly built computer suddenly restarts without warning and offers no BSOD. I built it about 3 weeks ago, and originally it did not have this problem. I Googled a solution for no BSOD, and they suggested to do this:

A:Immediate restart w/ dump files but no BSOD

I had to use my computer last night, no problems for awhile. I start playing some n64 games on it for a few hours hours, seems good, then it randomly restarts again with no blue screen. The checkbox to "automatically restart after errors" was unchecked as I did that earlier, so I'm surprised why there wasn't a blue screen. I have another dump file from it as well.

I ordered my computer from Puget Systems some time ago and recently sent it in for repair because of a faulty motherboard. They replaced the motherboard, ram module and installed an 8800 GTX video card. Ever since i got it back I have been getting the DRIVER IRQL Not less then equal BSOD. When I reboot it does the same bsod upon loading my desktop. The only thing I have found to fix the problem is to boot into safemode and reinstall my video drivers. I installed different drivers and the problem seemed to vanish for a few weeks until today. I was loading into a HL2 server and it never loaded and I couldn't ctrl-alt-del so I did a hard shutdown and rebooted to receive the same error. After some research I came to discover the minidump files and this forum.

also uploaded on my webspace is all my dumps since i got the computer.. 06-xx-07 is the month I got my computer back from repair..anything before then probably isn't relevant.

Dump file points to netw5v64.sys as the possible problem. Try updating the drivers for your network card.

When starting up windows 7 and getting to the part to enter my password to login I receive the BSOD. I restarted my computer in Safe Mode then restarted and it worked fine.

This is a brand new computer, bought from cyberpowerpc I have been using it for about 3 days.

Hi all,

Having severe BSOD Bad_Pool_Caller issues lately (last 48 hours). I noticed this was an issue because around the same time, all video on my system (youtube, VLC player, etc.) will occasionally stutter/lag and show crazy artifacts. Soon after, things will slow down to a crawl and the system will randomly crash. It has started crashing even while not watching video, so this is a frustrating issue for me. Lately, I've noticed that the system will crash within fifteen minutes after waking up if the monitor has gone to sleep.

From what I've read, I understand that this could be RAM error or a driver issue, but I've run memtest on my ram and I don't think it's a hardware issue. I'm more than happy to swap out all my ram if necessary, but would prerfer to see if anyone can help me read some dump files.

I've used bluescreenview and it would appear that most of the crashes occur due to ntoskrnl.exe. I have no idea what this is and I have no idea what to do next. I've attached a few dump files from the last two days, system information (from Speccy), and an overview of bluescreenview in a dropbox folder and would greatly appreciate if someone on here can help me out.

I think I remember an issue dealing with file extension that prevents a file from being attached to a post. Try ziping the dump files and see if a .zip extension will attach.
If that works, I'll make it a mission of mine to be more profound next time I tell someone
I'm not good at decyphering dump files, but others on this forum are. I usually look at errors in the events viewer to determine course of action. A double click on an error there will give more details about the error.

This problem occurred about two weeks ago. Computer randomly BSODs about 10 times a day and stays on 0%. Minidump Files are not being created, even after adding the minidump folder to the %SystemRoot%. I have it set up the same way that was instructed on this website (Through Startup and Recovery), the only difference that I had was that the Automatic Restart was not checked(it is now but I haven't BSOD since then). I also used the registry file available through this website but haven't BSOD since then either.

I was in the middle of a game when it went to BSOD. I can't remember the last time I had one, I've made no hardware or driver changes to my system in a long, long time.

It IS pretty hot where I am and my computer was on for almost 7 days at the time and I also had a ton of other programs open at the same time. Was it a simple memory problem or is it something more that I should be concerned about?

I run CPUID Hardware Monitor to check my temps and nothing was out of the ordinary just prior to this (even after gaming, temps were normal).

1. Remove RivaTuner (it could be relabelled as MSI Afterburner? I can't tell from the info given)

2. Update your graphics drivers - http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

3. Remove SPTD.sys. It is known to cause BSODs; remove Daemon Tools, then use this SPTD installer to remove it (pick the uninstall option when you run the installer): http://www.duplexsecure.com/en/downloads

4. Run some hardware tests:

I am dealing with several random BSODs for some months (I believe since april or even earlier). I am attaching in this thread all the requested items I found in the "BSOD Posting Instructions" and some pictures I took from the BSODs, grouped together.

I am sorry but I will have to write a lot, so I can provide you guys all the details I have...english is not my primary language, so I apologize before I start (and if I already had made any mistakes in this brief text, I apologize too :P).

These BSODs dont let Windows finish to create a dump file...as you can see in the pictures, it always hangs in the "Initializing disk for crash dump..." and then reboots. Only one time it finished, and it was something related to Ready Boost (which was never used or allowed to be used in the system, so I am considering this as not related to the problem...I already looked for BSODs related to Ready Boost, and it came in no help). So, since the Windows dont make a dump file, I am afraid the dump files collected from your "tool" are not related to this problem. I also believe that the Bluethoot devices listed as problematic in the diagnostic tools are not related to the problem also, since I almost never use any bluethoot device with my PC.
After the system reboots from the BSODs it looks like the BIOS is weird, it usually says that "no operational system was detected", so I have to turn off the PC and then wait some time and turn it on agai... Read more

Hi guys,

Long time reader, first time poster.

Well... I've recently put together a new build and everything seemed to be working recently until I began receiving BSOD messages of a mixed variety. The problems seem to happen primarily when using IE/Chrome but also when attempting to pack the dump files so that they can be uploaded here. I will attempt to upload them but I'm unsure whether or not they are complete. The resource and performance monitor does not work either; stuck on "collecting data" after 15 minutes.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

For the past week or so I have been getting the BSOD, sometimes multiple times a day, when I'm actively using my computer and have also opened it back up to find them after I've been at work, I have tried everything I can think of to figure out what the problem is but it is beyond my skills, so I am hoping someone here might be able to help me out. I'm using Vista Home Premium 64bit sp2, but have pretty limited hardware experience.
A large (500gb) external drive is plugged in all the time through a firewire port. My system has remained unchanged for the last two years, and the crashes started happening a couple of months ago, but only once every couple of weeks, now I experience them about once a day, and just had my second one this afternoon.

I've read through the FAQ's for the forums, hopefully someone can help me out. Is there more specific information I should include about my machine?

Not random at all. You have a firewire device correct?

Ok you have at least two problems. first the obvious priamry cause. the firewire driver (or device) is taking way too long to respond. could be old driver, bad cable anything.

Second you have SP2 yet more than half of the drivers are from before march 2008???

Well, I thought my nwifi.sys BSOD's had stopped, but apparently not. It seems to happen when there is very high network traffic. Included are the dump files. Any help is greatly appreciated.

This crash was probably caused by nwifi.sys which is part of win 7's wifi setup

I would run a system file check
type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc and "/"

Hello there,

Starting last night, I'm getting BSOD every hour (nearly exactly to the hour). I've tried to follow all the advice presented here but it seems that even though I have memory dumps configured properly, they aren't being captured (the folder doesn't even exist -- can I just create one?). BlueScreenView (clearly) can't capture them either...

Because I'm so technically advanced, I took pictures of the BSODs (attached, also). Only 2 out of 16 BSODs have been the fatal errors.

A:BSOD Hourly, dump files not being captured

The STOP bugchecks are caused by I/O errors suffered during startup when attempting to grab disk contents and slap it into memory. Therefore, either your disk (or disk controller, aka motherboard) is bad, or your memory is bad, or the bus (motherboard) inbetween is bad.

First of all, before doing any testing, I noticed you're using an SSD drive. Because SSD drives are relatively new and the bugs are still being worked out for em, your best bet is to start doing some updates. This includes the BIOS, any chipset or drive controller drivers, and the most important item, the SSD firmware. The SSD firmware especially can be buggy out of the manufacturing plant, and many people have managed to resolve issues such as yours by simply updating their firmware. The other components listed also play a role disk I/O so you'll wanna make sure they are taken care of as well.

Anyways, if you managed to accomplish all of that and things still don't do well, you'll want to run Memtest86+ full passes on your RAM. If that doesn't come up with anything, there's a good chance you have a defunct SSD drive, which isn't uncommon. Or you have a compatibility issue between your motherboard and your SSD, which can happen often when trying to run SSD drives off of older motherboards. Unfortunately there appears to be no drive diagnostic test for your drive, and I'm not sure something like Seatools would work well with it without causing false positives. I have been given a laptop that has never worked correctly. It's pretty much unused, but crashes soon after booting. I have run a CHKDSK and no errors were found.

Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.

I have frequent reboots (only today: 3).

My new windows 8.1 notebook stops working, then restarts (sometimes I can have ALT+TAB working, but mouse and/or keyboard stops responding and after 5 minutes PC restarts).

By the way I changed my pagefile configuration forcing it to 16 gb (so dump files will be created).

Today my PC works well (I have to wait some days to confirm). I disabled all toshiba software (no more reboots, now only video freezes) and - maybe this is the key - I've found a deinterlace option in catalyst driver - video settings (option enabled by default). I disabled this option and cross my fingers.

I think I've followed all the BSOD posting instructions. BSOD happened the first time after I finished downloading GW2 for the free trial weekend. I've tried system restore twice and it worked for a day, then back to the same thing. I have no idea what I'm doing. Thank you in advance for any help!

So my power went off very briefly while I was on the computer. It turned back on itself to resume, but then got the blue screen of death and shut down a few seconds after start up. I tried restarting, completely shutting it down and starting it, but it keeps shutting down with BSOD maybe 30 seconds after it starts up. I am able to use the computer in safe mode with networking, which I'm on now. I will post the dump files.

Have noticed that my machine gives a BSOD during formal shutdown or restart. It seems to get through just about all the shutdown activities, and at the time I wold expect the screen to go blank a BSOD flashes with the following information:

I have followed multiple sets of instructions for trying to get dmp files, but can never get anything in minidmp or in SYSTEM_ROOT/*.dmp. I am pretty skeptical that I will ever get any dumps, given that this seems to happen right at the very end of OS shutdown. (I was only able to capture the above info my recoridng the screen during shutdown -- it flashes by too fast).

One other piece of information, one of my raid volumes keeps coming up in verify status. All drives check out as fine with SeaTools tests (long), and I am not sure if the value in verify status is a cause or effect here....

Can anything be learned from the above information? Any advice on how to proceed?

0x9F are usually caused by a device attached to the computer. This can either be a USB device or even a PCI device such as the network card. Start off by removing all non essential usb devices attached to the computer.
Make sure your computer is set to write minidumps

XP:
Go to Start, then Run, then type in "sysdm.cpl" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Click on the Advanced tab
Click on the Startup and Recovery Settings button
Ensure that "Automatically restart" is unchecked
Under the Write Debugging Information header select "Small memory dump (64 kB)" in the dropdown box
Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as "%systemroot%\Minidump" (without the quotes)
Click OK twice to exit the dialogs, then reboot for the changes to take effect.

Hey Guys,

I have been experiencing a really werid issue I cannot figure out. I was hoping you could give me a hand in identifying the culprit.
Its hard to get the issue fixed because it happens at random intervals it can happen twice a week then not happen for a month.

-When the issue occurs all 3 screens freeze and the image is the same as the moment it stopped working
-Windows doesnt respond to ctrl+alt+del
-Most of the time there is a buzzing sound from the speakers
-Upon reboot the system does 1 of 3 things:
1.reboots like nothing happened (most of the time),
2.the system wasn't closed properly please choose: safe mode or normal
3.overclock failed and i get booted into the asus visual bios (i change nothing while in bios) leave and reboot works fine.

Other background info in the time I have experienced the problem I have checked temps on cpu cores and they always look fine....
I have changed the GPU, SSD (windows drive) and added a Sound Card none of these changes affected the issue as it is still present at random.

OK, I've got an annoying one here.

I have a fresh install of Windows 10 Home on a factory built PC (Chillblast) that was running OK under Windows 7, but is now Blue Screening on Windows 10.

When I boot the PC from cold about 1/3 of the time it will blue screen. The messages vary. Sometimes it will say IRQL Not less or Equal, or Page fault in non-paged area, or Memory Management.

The messages always happen pretty much at the exact second that you would normally get the logon box up. It never Blue screens when I'm actually using the computer, even if I'm hitting it hard with games. It also never blue screens on a reboot. Only when it's booting from power complete power down.

I suspect that it's software rather than hardware, maybe a driver?

The only message in the logs is that the computer as recovered from an unexpected shutdown. It rarely creates Dump rile.

I thought that it might be bad RAM. I have two 8GB chips. Both are the original chips that the computer was sold with. If I try with one chip in it runs perfectly. It doesn't matter which chip, or which slot the chip is in. It runs perfectly with all combinations. If I put them both in 1/3 of the time BSOD.

I've run Memtest86+ and it didn't find any problems. I've also run the System File Checker and it didn't find anything.

As this is a fresh install I don't have much loaded. It started blue screening with only the basic software needed to run my hardware, and an Anti-Virus (Avira) loaded.

I read the first five minidumps of Zip1 and the first four are the same error code of 0x00000050: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Requested data was not in memory. An invalid system memory address was referenced. Defective memory (including main memory, L2 RAM cache, video RAM) or incompatible software (including remote control and antivirus software) might cause this Stop message, as may other hardware problems (e.g., incorrect SCSI termination or a flawed PCI card).

All four specifically cited corrupted memory as the issue. You'll need to run Memtest for a minimum of 7 Passes (the more the better) unless you start receiving errors before hand. If so then run it per stick. Any errors and that memory stick needs to be replaced.


*** If Memtest shows no errors then find the voltage specs of your RAM and compare it to the voltage setting in your BIOS. Do they match?

Hi All,

I bought my Sony VAIO flip on 12 Feb this year. At the beginning of April it started frequently crashing (a few times a day when using it on my commute and in the evening). It (almost) always crashes with a BSOD, but no error code, and no crash dump generated. About a quarter of the time, upon restarting from the crash, its says "Couldn't start Windows. Internal SSD not found". I'd keep restarting it and it would fail to start with the same error. If I leave it for a while (30 mins+), it restarts fine, until the next crash.

Given the 'SSD not found' errors, I had assumed it was a hardware fault with the drive failing intermittently. This would also explain the lack of crash dumps if the drive had issues and Windows couldn't write to it. However, I've read around and found some SSDs displaying this behaviour after a crash due to unexpected power loss to the drive, so I'm now wondering if this is a symptom not a cause.
Furthermore, windows restore does show windows updated some drivers at the beginning of April when the crashes started.

Event ID 41 is Windows way of saying it doesn't know why the system shut down.
This can be crashes, overheating, holding the power button down, etc

Please start by running Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings
Please be sure to read the BSOD screen for the name displayed on it - as the system may not save the memory dumps.

Most of the reports that I've seen have networking symptoms - so we'll start there first.

1) Please temporarily uninstall AVG (and enable Windows Defender and the Windows Firewall) and see if that helps stop the issues.

2) Visit Vaio Update and get ALL updates. Although I like Sony systems, this is by far the most frustrating thing for me when working on them. Just keep refreshing the screen and installing stuff until everything shows as being updated. If it makes you pull your hair out, please don't drop it on the keyboard

3) If you have any network-aware devices plugged into the system, please uninstall their software and physically remove the device from the computer while we're testing (please let us know if you have anything like this).

Been getting seemingly random BSOD only thing i've changed recently was my logitech drivers for my mic, changed those back to the originals and still crashing.

Ran diags on hard drive, motherboard and ram and all seem to be working fine so im back to thinking its driver related, don't know an awful lot about software related problems so any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi there,

Since a week I have a very strange problem with my htpc/server. For some reason it suddenly started to have random reboots along with a BSOD that gets shown only so short I cant read more than the first 3 letters. The reboots seem completely random to me. For example I can watch a movie and all and have no problems. Most reboots seem to be when the system is actually idle.

I must have over 20 dump files already and alot of them all shown different errors.

I suggest you upload the minidump files. You said you removed the lan cards? Try uninstalling the lan drivers as well. Check in Startup (MSCONFIG) if you have LAN related programs running. Try in Safe Mode if you can then disable everything in Startup (MSCONFIG). Enable one by one to see which one causes the BSOD.

Hi all,

I've been getting some hard reboots while gaming recently. Generally, there have been no BSODs and crash dump files created when these reboots occur. I have since ran Windows' driver verifier to force some BSODs that may/may not be related to the reboots I am seeing. I should note that the reboots only happen while gaming. My temperatures are fine, and my voltages are fine. I have ran furmark and prime95 to stress the hardware, and have not duplicated the reboots. Any help is greatly appreciated - I have attached my recent crash dumps.

Recently my PC has been locking up/crashing where I have to restart it. It does not happen often but when it does it "seems" to be when I'm on facebook. I've been trying to track down the problem but its rather tricky since when this does happen it does not produce a dump file. I'm not even sure if its a bsod?

There is only one crash dump in the uploaded zip, that is manually created using WhoCrashed.

No need to do such a thing. Apparently yours is not a BSOD issue.

Hi, I am wondering if I can somehow determine the cause of 2 bsod's, even without dump files, since they were not created. I changed setting since the first bsod, to get dump files, and the second time it looked like the dump was being created, but it didnt complete I guess, since there are no minidump files.

A:Can I diagnose BSOD without dump files ? They were not created.

Can someone please help me, I get a BSOD about once a day, sometimes every other day. System boots back up ok but would like to solve it. I have zipped and attached the dump files.I am new here but from reading other threads it looks like some very knowledgeable and helpful people on here.

Hi,
Unfortunately the installation appears non-genuine.
The Key is that of a HP OEM computer - and the motherboard is a retail one by Asus.
There is no point analysing your crash logs as your BSOD issues may stem from a counterfeit install.



The best course of action will be to:Purchase a legitimate Windows 7 licence.
Format the HDD.
Reinstall Windows and activate.

Hi all, I'm getting BSOD's intermittently, the computer takes 20-25
minutes to boot to a usable state, is very unresponsive, may take
minutes to open a simple txt or web browser window, Windows Update
will not work nor will Microsoft Update, computer may stay on all day
or freeze within minutes of boot-up. Explorer 8 wouldn't work so
removed & reinstalled, but the installation culminated in version 6
being installed, not version 8 which was the file I dl'd from Microsoft. I
also, last night, did a repair install on drive C: which took 5 hours, and
2 reboots as it froze the first time about half way through.
The BSOD's, lately, seem to be connected to atapi.sys. I've spent
at least 40 hours trying to diagnose this on my own to no avail. I've run
chkdsk /r on the C: = Boot Drive, and volume D: as I have gotten crc
errors on these. The drive is a 1 TB WD Caviar Black partitioned into a
35GB boot drive, and 2 448GB volumes, one for me, and one for my
wife. All programs/software are on my volume D: or on the boot drive
C:. I also have a WD 320GB Blue for storage. Have run WD
diagnostics, and the program says both the drives are good?
I bought a 64GB SSD drive to install XP on, but if the problem lay
elsewhere, motherboard, memory, (have run a memory check as well)
power supply, etc., I can only afford one of these, and would need to
return the SSD drive to buy the needed component. Also, I would need

When I say I spent over 40 hours trying to diagnose this problem, I lied, It's been months since this began, and has gotten worse over time. 40 Hours doesn't even come close to covering the time I spent. As I said, I spent over 5 hours reloading / repairing XP two nights ago, the time adds up. Is there something not interesting about my troubles? did I incorrectly post my thread? Is this problem going to take too much time to diagnose? The later, I understand someone not wanting to get involved, and spend hours themselves on my technical woes, but at least respond with something, some info, some advice, somewhere else to go, SOMETHING! Recently i built my own pc from ground up to my own likings and word of mouth, reviews of certain products etc.

My system is no longer then about 3 weeks old now and i have not installed one 2nd part either, all brand new so it frustrates me to get such a bad error so ive turned to you guys to hopefully guide me in the right direction on how to fix this issue once and for all, i appreciate anyones contribution in advance and apologize if i had forgot to post something or specs about my pc, if i have so please notify me.

Few General Specs and Info firstly:

Running Windows 7 pro ultimate x64

Custom built pc so just installed current OS on the system
OEM version

- What is the age of system (hardware)? = not older then 3 weeks out of the box brand new for everything

- What is the age of OS installation? = 1st install and Installed same time as build date, no longer then about 3 weeks now

As my anti-virus im using Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 - lastest version

DUMP FILES AND EVERY OTHER IMPORTANT FILE in the zip file >> attachedAttachment 186235

Specs;

CPU: Intel i7-2600k
Motherboard: ASRock Fatality Z68 Professional Generation 3
RAM: Viper Xtreme 4x4GB cards = 16GB total

Four different reported causes.

USBaudio, directX, Rt64win7.sys, and one inconclusive.
I am betting they all refer to your Kaspersky.
I do notice Kaspersky which is a frequent cause of BSOD's. I would remove and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials at least to test.

Goodday good people of sevenforums,

I've been having bluescreen issues for about 5 months now, though i got them to be far less frequent through increasing the voltage on my RAM to 1,55 V.
Before any troubleshooting can occur, i need to be able to show dump files, but my computer doesn't seem to want to save dump files.
I have everything set up according to Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD (for small memory dumps), but for the past two months, the dump files don't seem to want to be created.
Could anyone assist me in at least getting my dumps back in order?

I got a new 16 GB kit of memory installed into my computer because a specific game kept giving me a BSOD (this fixed that problem) but now im getting a new BSOD from doing generally anything gaming wise and now the BSOD wont make a dump file when the setting was never changed in the first place. The last BSOD was 5/30/2016 and the event viewer says it was a Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power error eventID 41 task 63 if i have to i can provide a lightshot screenshot of the details exactly.

CHECKLIST

For dumps to be produced. . .

- Page file must be on OS drive
- Page file base allocation size must be > than installed physical RAM
- Windows Error Reporting (WER) system service should be set to MANUAL
- Set page file to system managed, OS drive

Set System Crash/ Recovery Settings to "Kernel Memory Dump" - this will produce. . .
--> a Full Kernel Memory Dump - c:\windows\memory.dmp
--> a Mini Kernel dump c:\windows\minidump

How to Check Computer is set to collect dumps

The Full Kernel is overwritten each BSOD; a new mini kernel dump is created w/ different name for each BSOD

To check your system's "Recoveros" (Recovery) and Page File settings via Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), run the following -

HTML output - IE will open w/ output - WMI - "Recoveros" and Page File Settings (HTML)
Text file output - Notepad will open w/ output - WMI - "Recoveros" and Page File Settings (TEXT)

I just built my new pc a couple weeks ago and have been having trouble with constant bsod since the start. Since it was new build i didnt want to jump to conclusions with hardware and instead updated all drivers bios etc but still has problems. A weird thing is i can play games fine its just when they are loading that it would crash not during play time even then its rare (manage to play gta for about 6 hours straight no crashes) however during other things like using the internet or downloading it will crash frequently. i have attached the dump files from my last few crashes to this post.

I would also like to add that i tested my ram with memtest86+ and founf one of the sticks to be faulty and im running my pc on 4gb atm until my new ram arrives however the bsod still occurs even eith the ram that passed.

Hey guys , Im having a problem with my PC and would really appreciate any help at all. This is my first time posting on a forum so i apologize  if i don't provide enough information or something along those lines  
 
The problem
My computer will randomly freeze and the only thing i can do is hard reset it, I get no BSOD and i get no dump files and yes i have correctly set up the dump files and tested that i get them with whocrashed
 
What i have tried
I have been trying to fix this for the last 3 days and i have tried alot of things but these are the main ones i can remember
 
-Updated all of my drivers 
-Memory test 
-Replacing the hard drive 
-Taking out the GPU and using integrated graphics
-Disabling integrated graphics in BIOS Settings
- Restoring default BIOS settings 
- Checking event viewer
-Reinstalled Windows 10 countless times
-Scanned for viruses
-Stress tested all the hardware ( Didn't freeze during stress test )
-Putting CPU back to stock speeds
-Fixing registry files
