Create Dump File - Does It End Process As Well?

Q: Create Dump File - Does It End Process As Well?

Hi, I am currently running Outlook PST File Repair on a computer that file errors.

I am past the scanning portion and now repairing.

While in task manager, I inadverdantly clicked "Create Dump File". I cancelled this right away. The process is still listed, however the amount of memory hasn't changed in a half hour nor has the CPU percentage. I know SCANPST.exe takes a long time to run, so I really want to know if I ended the process so I can start over as soon as possible. However I don't want to wait 12 hours just for it to keep doing nothing.

The window seems to be hanging, it says "not responding", but I'm not sure that is relevant.

In case, Windows 7 SP 1 x64

Thank You

Hi,

Windows 7 does this itself, you don't need a 3rd party application.

See this tutorial :

Hello everyone
I am trying to create a dump file of a process from task manager. So I right click on the process I want, which the user matches mine, which is an administrator account.
Right click, create dump file. -> Access denied ???

The system and user is on a domain, and I'm thinking it is somehow related to permissions, but can't find the problem spot.
Is there anything I should be looking for?
Thank you so much in advance for anything and everything

My windows XP pro won't boot, has a stop 21a BSOD, I've tried chkdsk/f at the recovery console and a manual system restore of the registry, I slaved the hard drive to another workstation and see a folder (found.000) with *.chk files within it, so I know the hard drive has crashed, I restored the chk files (3 of them) and still stop21a BSOD.
I searched around the hard drive for dump files (*.dmp) but there are none, my goal is to get the OS up and running and then clone the image to a new hard drive.
My question is, is there a way I can create a mini dump file so I can get a more detailed error on what's going on ?
I can access the registry when slaved to another workstation and all my data is retrievable, I just don't want to rebuild since there are some odd ball programs installed.
Note: I can not boot in to safe mode or any other mode including last know good configuration.

Please help guys.

Hello. I realize I am supposed to post log files, but I cannot due to the fact I cannot access anything except the f8, f10/alt, f2 and f12 screens which no matter which selection I attempt I end up back to this dreadful blue screen and errror message. I am posting from a nearby desktop computer with hopes you will be able to guide me in using either my Windows operating system reinstallation disc, or a boot/repair disc I have with restore tools included.

I have changed the boot order a few different ways, with no luck. I have tried windows debugging and every other option in the f8 menu, with no luck. I have tried the f12 selections, with no luck. Please help.

As I've learned, the PC is a Gateway NV59C with 4GB DDR3Mem, 320 GB HHD, Intel HD graphics, Intel Core i3-330MHD with Windows 7 and 64bit.

I have tried multiple solutions and did a lot of research, but have not been able to fix the problem. If I can create a log, I would be happy to provide it to you upon direction.

Thank you!!!

Windows does not create a memory dump file when a Stop error occurs in Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012

Consider the following scenario:
You connect a storage device that is controlled by Microsoft Multipath I/O (MPIO) to a computer that is running Window 8 or Windows Server 2012.You configure Windows to generate a complete memory dump file or kernel memory dump file when a Stop error occurs. You configure Windows to save the memory dump file to the storage device.A Stop error occurs.
In this scenario, Windows may not generate the memory dump file.

Windows does not create a memory dump file when a Stop error occurs in Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012

A:Windows does not create a memory dump file when BSOD

I think the numerical list is a better fit for the scenario described above, because it's a sequence.

Given the thread title, it's worth covering the old scenarios as well (and the bullet list is on purpose here):
The paging file is too small (fix: set the system managed size)Not enough free space on the system drive to write the full dump (fix: change the dump writing location or configure small dumps to be written)BSOD occurs before the paging file is open, e.g. during driver initialization at bootSystem components involved in dump creation are corruptedOS hangs or sudden reboots caused by faulty hardware, e.g. CPU overheating

I've read that you can by editing registry keys, but it was some site like 3 years ago.  Computer is freezing/locking up and unresponsive.  I need to force a dump when this happens.

Hi Rixanne To force Windows to create a dump file on BSODs, follow the instructions below.Click on the Start Menu, then right-click on Computer and select Properties. From there, click on Advanced System Settings in the left pane. Click on the third Settings... button, under the Startup and Recovery category. From there, select Small memory dump (256k) in the second drop down list (under Write debugging information) and make sure that the directory is set to %SystemRoot%\Minidump. From there, a minidump file should be created each time you have a BSOD.

I've been having BSoD's for well over a year now, once or twice almost every day. I've tried multiple times to figure out whats wrong but... I dont have ANY dump files.

I've followed instructions on how to enable them but it still doesn't create a file. Im really hoping you all can help me out here.

The current settings are:
Page files on both hard drives enabled.
Set custom page size to 17000MB-20000MB
System managed size and no paging file boxes are unchecked
Write an event to system log box checked
Automatically restart unchecked
Debug information set to small memory dump/kernal. Both settings dont work
Overwrite existing file box is greyed out when debug is set to small memory. Checked when set to kernal
Small and kernal memory dump location set to C:\Windows\Minidump and C:\Windows\Memory.DMP I created these folders as they were not present

I got a SSD awhile back and use it for my windows. However i didnt reformat my other hard drive and windows is still installed on the old one however i boot from the SSD (maybe this is some how the problem)

Im using WhoCrashed from Resplendence Software - Advanced System Tools and Developer Components to force a BSoD when trying to creat a dump file.

There are NO files in either folder. Both on the SSD or old hard drive.

I've searched many forums now and found others with what seems to be the same problem but with no solutions. I would VERY much appreciate the help!

Okay, I have NO idea what I'm doing and before I start messing up my pooter any more I would like some advice.

My pooter likes to hang/reboot by itself. I haven't really noticed any reason why, such as doing heavy stuff (Like running a lot of programs). It just does it.

I've sent error reports to Microsoft and it tells me something about my display drivers, which happens to be ati2evxx.exe.

Today I installed AVG Free antivirus. When I ran it (Twice) my computer rebooted by itself, both times. When I logged back on, I checked running processes and had savedump.exe (Memory dump) going, which is the first time I've ever seen it. When I checked a site for information on my display driver, it took me to a troubleshoot page for leaky processes.

I have no idea what Memory Dump and Leaky Process are.

I've been getting a few blue screens lately while playing games, (its not any particular game that's causing it, it happens while playing any game, after a random amount of time). The problem is that the computer is restarting as soon as the blue screen is generated and that a memory dump is not being created; even though I've set the options in "System Properties -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery -> Settings" as follows:

System failure

(Tick) Write an event to the system log (*1)
(Tick) Send an administrative alert (*2)
(Untick) Automatically restart (*3)

Write debugging information

Kernel memory dump (*4)

Dump file
%SystemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP (*5)

(Tick) Overwrite any existing file

1. I've looked in the event viewer under "system" and I can't seem to find any errors at the time of the crash. The only actual error I can see is one relating to "NIC1394": "1394 Net Adapter : Has determined that the adapter is not functioning properly." I don't see anything relating to a system crash, but I don't really know what I'm looking for since I've never really used the event viewer.

2. Not sure what this does, I think it sends the memory dump over the network to the administrator, which doesn't apply to me using my PC at home. Is this correct?

3. Even though this is unticked, the computer still restarts as soon as I get the blue screen so I can't read the error.

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and would greatly appreciate some help.

I am having issues with BSOD and I know that I need to supply you with the dump file. The problem is that they are not being written. They used to be, but not anymore.

I have already enable them and have these settings on (in picture). It's very difficult to find out what is giving me BSOD without the dump :-(

Thanks in advance guys!

A:Cannot create crash dump on BSOD

Sometimes if the crash is hard enough or fast enough the system doesnt have time to generate the dump file
It is possible there is nothing you can do about it. If you want to be proactive about finding your cause there is steps you can take but it will basically involve testing as much hardware as possible and disabling most startup programs/services etc updating drivers, removing bad siftware to see if the error stops

What info can you give us about the crashes
do they occur at cetain times ? are they related to a particular piece of hardware/software etc ?

You can still run the SF tool and upload the info files which will still help us advise you even if they dont have the all important dump files

First, let me say that the info on this site is a tremendous resource. You guys are great to run this.
I started getting kernal_data_inpage_error BSODs about a month ago. I found your site and found minidumps were being created in c:\windows\minidump\ just like the site indicated. For the last couple of weeks, I still periodically get the BSODs but no .dmp files are getting created. The BSODs report that the physical memory dump has been completed successfully. I followed your procedure to try to enable the dumps (see attached jpeg) but still no longer see any dump files being produced.
I walked through How to Force a Blue Screen in Windows: 13 Steps - wikiHow so that I can create BSODs at will but still do not see any dmp files actually being created. The three things I did around the time that I stopped getting minidumps were
1) In a non-admin session, I used WinExplorer to navigate to windows\minidump. When I was prompted that I was would not be allowed access, I answered "yes" to grant me (from a non-admin logon) access to the folder.
2) I saw there were some very old .dmp files (2+ years ago) in the folder. I deleted those .dmp files
Would either of these stop minidumps from being taken?
I know there is probably something I have messed up but I cannot see it. Can you help me get back to where minidumps are being created again.
3) I walked through your process to systemadvancedsetup process a couple of times to change the dump type to a full dump ... Read more

For the past month, my computer has been experiencing frequent BSoD crashes, something it has not done with any frequency since it's assembly 5 years ago. Naturally, I want to fix the issue, so I got bluescreenview and promptly discovered that no crash dumps were being saved.

I have 2GB RAM and my virtual memory has my page file on my C: with a custom size of 3069 to 6138 (changed from all automatically managed in an effort to fix my missing crash dumps). It is presently at the minimum size of 3069. I also have an auto-managed page file on my H:. I have alternately disabled and enable both of these page files with no luck.

C:\ is a three disk RAID5 on SATA with 400GB+ free space. H:\ is a single SATA disk with 250GB+ free space.

The system failure settings are set to small memory dump to the directory %SystemRoot%\Minidump. I changed the setting from a kernel memory dump since those don't work with bluescreenview and did find that my system had saved a kernel crash dump from a few years ago, so at some point I didn't have this missing crash dump issue.

The BSoD itself displays:
Collecting data for crash dump...
Initializing disk for crash dump...

And nothing else, no failure/success message, no progress indicator, nothing.
I attached a picture of it, I unfortunately cut off a comma and the 0x that appear to the right of the digit '8' in that long string of numbers.

I am very new to computer as I never really had a computer issue before.

I had this laptop for about 3 years now "http://www.cnet.com/laptops/sony-vaio-vpcf126fm-b/4505-3121_7-34121949.html" and about 2 years ago my computer crashed and received a Hard-Drive failure is prominent please back up your disk. About 2 months ago, my computer started to crash every-time I play a game, League of Legends, Aura Kingdom, Runes of Magics... etc.

this is a good way Imaging with free Macrium

and there is this MACRIUM REFLECT - Create Bootable Rescue USB Drive

You could even clone (Macrium will do that) it to a drive that is of at least equal size or larger but any problems and they will transfer with it of course.

An extreme alternative is Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 then you need to reinstall all the backed up programs but it will get rid of the bloatware.

Hi there! This is my first time posting for BSOD help, so please let me know if I have missed something that I am meant to include. Sorry for the long description, but I wanted to be thorough.

My wife and I have the same MSi laptops that we got at the end of 2011. My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I tend to frequently check for driver updates and perform PC maintenance, while she has left her drivers as they came. She has never had a BSOD. I think I noticed my first BSOD around the time when I updated my Nvidia drivers, but I also installed Cisco VPN Client at that time.

There was a period that I was using 3ds Max a lot for work and during that time, I got BSODs at least once a day - sometimes when using Max, sometimes when playing League of Legends and I remember one happening when it was idle at the desktop and I was on the other side of the room and happened to see it. I remember that some of them were "Pagefault in non-paged area" and "POOL_CORRUPTION_IN_FILE_AREA".

I rolled back my graphics card drivers as best I could and seemed to have a long spell without BSOD.

I used to use SpyBot, AVG Free and Norton anti-virus at the same time, until my computer was experiencing significant slow-downs and I first got rid of AVG, and then Norton. I still use SpyBot, but have been with out virus protection for a couple of months, relying on my router and windows firewall (as well as my own usual internet file stranger-danger awareness).

Asus G74/Win7 x64, running Norton Security Suite  Purchased Nov 2011.  are some symptoms...hopefully they make sense to someone here!!:

I was getting some random freezes...complete freezes that forced hard shutdowns.  They weren't TOO annoying, but they got a little more frequent over the last week or so.  Malwarybytes showed no problems, neither did any other similar utilities I have.  I didnt' have any malware/virus symptoms, it seems to be 'deeper' than that; somewhere in Windows

2 days ago, out of nowhere...doing no particular task, just surfing, the freeze happened & quickly went BSOD on me.  That didn't last, it went black, and I could NOT re-boot at all, until I ran the startup/boot recover utility that was offered to me (forget the name, there were 2 options; that or System Recover).

That worked, I ran chkdsk (took forever, fixed lots of things) and for 5 minutes, I thought I might be clear.  But I tried to run the Drive Medic utility in my System Mechanic Pro, and that always BSOD'd me.  Again, most times the blue screen flashes, then you get a "select drive you wish to boot to (from?) and push any button, but when you push any button, the prompt just repeats, so you hit the power button once to close & once to restart, and it boots normally.  I tried to run a Seagate backup to my external drive (whole C drive), but that BSOD'd too...but I did manage to backup all my photos/documents/music/vide... A:SUPER Unstable: BSODs/Won't Create Dump Files/F4 Failure..HELP!

Hi

Bugcheck F4 is typically caused by a failing hard drive. Systems failure to boot after BSOD and inability to write crash dumps are further indication of a possibly failing HDD. I would first try the below steps.

Remove and reconnect the hard drive. This will solve any potential  contact issues.

Run Seatool For DOS.

Since your hard drive is a Seagate one, download and burn the Seatool for DOS disc image from the below link.

http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/item/seatools-dos-master/

Boot from the CD and run a long test with it.

Report whether it detects any errors during the test.

Dear Forum,
I did search this forum for this problem and I hope I didn't miss it, but to my surprise I found no mention of it. Otherwise, many other forums have several and lengthy threads concerning this problem from way back in 2006 to the present. And none of the threads that I looked at concluded with the fix.

Hopefully, for some reason, I just never saw the right post and someone's going to tell me that I'm wasting the forum's time, because this was solved a long time ago.

But here it goes:

Every once in a while after I tap the space bar to wake the computer up, and after the Vipre antivirus immediately announces that it's downloading new definitions, Vista locks up shortly after Vipre is done its download. And when I say Locked up... you do have some slight functionality, but you can't do a shutdown or restart. You have to eventually do a hard shutdown. If you hit ctrl alt del for the task manager the screen eventually goes black. Then after a while, a message box appears with the title bar text, "logon process has failed to create the security options dialog", and the message text starting with a "X" in a red circle icon, "Failure - Security Options". After you click on the message box's OK button you now go to a very strange, foggy looking desk top. And as many times as you hit ctrl alt del, you can return to the black screen with the message box, then click OK, and return back to the foggy desktop.

I read many posts on this ... Read more

Hi Rand -

What happens if you remove Vipre a/v (as in get rid of it completely - un-install)? Do you have link for this product - I've never heard of it, not that fact really means anything of course.

Does it have a firewall?

What happens when you boot into SAFEMODE ? Try it - tap F8 repeatedly during boot-up.

I assure you - never a waste of time to try and help. After all, by my calculations you have about 5.5 years until you build your next system, right?? (I read your post from last fall !!).

Whenever you open a tab in IE8 it opens up a seperate iexplorer.exe for that page

If you have 10 tabs, then thats 10 iexplore.exe processes running.

I have found out a way to make it so IE8 loads only one process no matter how many tabs you open. Follow this link and enjoy this tweak IE users.

Hi, just got a new laptop with Windows Vista Basic pre-installed. Trying to get it going, having installed various things from the Google package (toolbar, Skype, Acrobat reader, Spyware Doctor). Also AVG antivirus (free download). And Microsoft Office (but the problem was before that anyway). Its spec is Acer Aspire 3694WLMi - Cel 440 512MB 80GB hard drive with wireless network card. However it takes ages to boot, during which we get the message "Logon process failed to create the security option dialog", and then nothing will run. What's going on - something to do with the Vista settings? Or something we installed? And what can we do about it? Thanks in advance for any tips. Jo.

My computer (Toshiba A205 series with Vista Home Premium) has been moving reallly s l o w for the past few days. It will not respond and will periodically freeze sometimes to the point where only a hard close will get it to respond. If I leave it alone, eventually I will get a dialog box with the above message. Ctrl+Alt+Delete yields another message "Failure - Security Options".

Since google is my friend, I have tried all the possible suggestions relating to this error message with no success. I have deleted and reinstalled my Norton 360 Premier Edition, completely removed MS Essential, ran CHDSK and started a clean boot with selective start up items. The problem still exist.

At this point I don't know if I have a virus, although Norton is not picking up anything or if this is some sort of hard drive issue.

If anyone is familiar with this error message and can offer any solutions, I will be very appreciative.

My daughters computer is a Dell 518 desktop running Vista Home. The processor is a 2.53 GB, the computer has 3 gb ram & 500 gb hard drive

She received the following error when she turned it on yesterday.

"Log on process has failed to create the security options dialog.
X - Failure - Security Options. "

The above error basically kills the computer. Unable to run programs, access the internet etc
I'm able to boot into the safe mode with networking, without issue.

I'm unable to run a virus scan, as the Charter Comm Security suite will not work in safe mode.
I've tried the following:
1 - Ran a Anti-malware scan using Malwarebytes.
2 - I ran a spy-ware scan using - SUPERAntiSpyware.
3 - I did a system restore using a date three days ago - rebooted - no difference
4 - I ran error checking on the hard drive with automatically fix file system errors - rebooted - no difference
5 - turned off the service Super fetch - an recommendation from a Microsoft website - rebooted - no difference
6 - I have run the Dell utilities to check the RAM & Hard drive - no errors found

Computer becomes unresponsive at startup in normal mode. Unable to run programs, access internet, even opening files causes windows explorer to not respond, computer is unusable outside of safe-mode. I'm able to boot into the safe mode with networking, without issue. Following error pops up after a few minutes,

"Log on process has failed to create the security options dialog.

I've tried:
1 - updated avast antivirus full boot time scan and malwarebytes - found nothing
2 - spy-ware scan with spybot search and destroy - found nothing
3 - system restore using a date three days ago - no difference
4 - scanned hard drive for disk errors and fixed them - no difference
5 - turned off Super fetch - no difference
6 - sfc /scannow in command prompt, and also did startup repair through the dell diagnostics at bootup- no difference
7. also tried advanced systemcare4 and ran deep scan for registry errors, fixed 14 - no difference

I tried to get a log with hijackthis, but it won't install in safe mode and normal mode won't allow me to install it or do anything else. I'm looking for help in resolving the problem.

A:The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

This sounds like a classic concurrent readers/writers problem for shared data, i.e. the file in this case. In a locking scheme that will resolve the issue, create read and write locks that are grabbed in one machine cycle (like a test & set instruction), and if the lock is not obtainable, put the request on a queue. Reading should not be a problem and you can simply add and subtract a lock count. Writing is another matter, since when a write lock is acquired, it should immediately block all reads until the write is completed, and the lock released.

That's off the top of my head. You can google for readers/writers problem or look here at Wikipedia for an explanation in greater detail of it.

Hey everyone, new member here looking for some help. My desktop computer (Windows xp) has been infected with Personal Guard 2009 and I am trying to get rid of it. BleepingComputer offered the solution - download Malwarebytes' anti-malware (MBAM). So I followed the directions (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-personal-guard-2009). Downloaded the setup. Went through the steps and the last step where it says "Setup has finished installing Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware on your computer. The application may be launched by selecting the installed icons. Click Finish to exit Setup. 2 check boxes, both checked - Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, Launch Malwarebytes' Anti Malware"With those 2 boxes checked, I press Finish, expecting to see MBAM start up. To see what SFC did after it is finished:

The SFC log is contained inside the cbs.log file located at:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
Since the cbs.log may be huge (it's used by other programs besides the SFC),
you might want to do this:

To create relevant SFC-only information gleaned from the cbs.log, and put it
in a small file called sfcdetails.txt, right-click Command Prompt (using the
shortcut in Start Menu\Programs\Accessories) and choose Run as
Administrator. By default, the prompt starts in C:\Users\(Your Name).
Type:

cd desktop

Press Enter on your keyboard. Then Copy and Paste this at the prompt:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt

Press Enter. Sfcdetails.txt should then appear on your Desktop. Now you can view what SFC actually did.

Basically the title. Almost every single time i move ANY file or delete any file, the window im in freezes and the progress bar freezes. Now when i create a new folder the window im in freezes also, but i'd say its only 50% of the time. The temporary solution i found was to go to the task bar, end explorer, and restart it using run. Now when i check back on that folder, whatever action I did (ie delete file) does do what i wanted, its just the freezing. I'm looking for a permanent solution to this and any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hi erod49, try looking in your error logs. You have given a good discription of the problem. Tel us your system specs as well.

To get into your error logs,

Left Click on Start Menu.
Right click on Computer and choose manage.
Click on the event viewer.
You now have loads of options to try and pin down what is happening.
Expand the error tab.
Look for things in the last 24 hours.

Other things to look for are updates, has an update caused this. Has your computer autoupdated any of the motherboard drivers.
Have you tried to restore the computer before the error started or has it always been like that.

Can someone look at the dump and tell be what it is pointing to? I supect a system file is corrupt but startup repair wont work.

Thnk you

A:Dump file help

Corrupt system files aren't very likely - as Windows System File Checker does a good job of ensuring that they don't get corrupted.

Quite often this type of error is due to a virus infection, so I'd suggest trying a couple of these free, online scans (in case your antivirus has become corrupted): Free Online AntiMalware Scanners

If that doesn't fix things up, then please post this info: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

Then please uninstall Daemon Tools/Alcohol 120% (a known cause of BSOD's).
Then use this free tool to remove the offending sptd.sys driver: DuplexSecure - FAQ - Remove 32 bit sptd.sys

Then do this:
OLDER DRIVERS PRESENT IN THE DUMP FILES
- Please update these drivers from the device manufacturer's website - or uninstall/remove them from your system. Reference links included below.
- DO NOT use Windows Update or the Update Drivers function of Device Manager.
- Please feel free to post back about any drivers that you are having difficulty locating.
- Windows Update exceptions may be noted below for Windows drivers:

Could someone please help me to read the dmp files? I've been getting multiple BSOD's lately.

I tried several times last night on my W7 PC and it wasn't working. I tried the debugger and that said to I don't have the proper symbols, so I installed that and directed debugger to it, but it didn't help.

I'm not too sure how the dumpfiles work, but I am at work now, so I don't think I can do anything with the files here (on XP).

I'll attach the recent dumps.
Quick History:
Built the PC a little more than a month ago, installed XP. Had BSOD's but figured it was XP related, so let it be (knowing I was going to install W7 in a few weeks). Once W7 was out I installed it and have run into far less BSOD's. Only having one until yesterday when I had 5 in like an hour or so.
Thanks.

A:Dump file help

Run memtest for as long as you can. 5 hours at least. I think there is something wrong with you RAM module(s). Especially because you said XP and here on 7.

This one was blamed on mdfsysnt.SYS driver the Mac HD driver. http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive
Best guess is to re-install it and run a system file check to verify and repair your system files

Run a system file check to verify and repair your system files.

I have a HP EliteBook 8540p running Windows 7 64bit. I had posted on here a few weeks back about a similar system crashing, and through the help I got I was able to come up with a fix that has helped 99% of the people using this laptop on my network. There is still one that is having problems, and I am hoping someone can take a look at the attached dmp file and see if it is clear which drivers are causing problems.

Thanks in advance!

Hi scott and welcome
A couple of problems.
1- your video driver is the probable cause of this crash.

When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver. In order to do that we recommend using Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.

2-Old drivers (from as far back as 2005) need to be updated. Obviously not a clean install of win 7 as recommended, Yhese are important drivers like your storage (raid) networking, etc.

I've heard the term memory dump file or dump file being used? I was wondering what it means?

I've gathered that it may be something to do with error messages or errors.

A:What is a dump file?

Stuff in RAM automatically gets wiped when you shut down or reboot. The dump file saves that info to your hard drive when the system crashes so you can analyze it after rebooting and are up and running again.

For a once-in-a-blue-moon BSOD a person might not care. When BSODs get to be a frequent event it makes it worth analyzing the problem so you can put an end to it.

Hi and Welcome to SF,

This is pretty straight forward,The error appears to be caused by e1k6232.sys. Looking on the net, it appears that this is a network card driver, please download and install fresh copy of it.
you can get more info from the Software Environment\System Drivers node of the msinfo32.exe utility and then look at the drivers in use under the Components node.

I am currently using ubuntu 14 I installed it to dual boot with windows 8.1 but something went wrong on install and I deleted / corrupted my Windows 8.1 install before I made a recovery disk.

Asus say that they cannot send a recovery disk because they only have them available for Windows 8 not 8.1.

I did however, save the recovery partitions (x2) on looks like a boot partition the other has a install.wim file. Is it possible to create a bootable ISO file with these recovery files so I can boot into Windows and make a fresh install.

Any help or advice appreciated.

A:Create ISO file from recovery install.wim file

Probably. Depends exactly what you have aside from the install.wim. I expect your install.wim will be for 8.0 if it came with the machine.

Might be easier to d\l the correct edition of 8.1 using the download tool they provide:

A:Help with Dump file 0x0124

Hi B3njamin91,

These 'Mini-dumps' may not give conclusive information; need to have a look at 'System Logs' for more information on any possible 'Hardware failure / software corruption / bad or outdated drivers. Please download and run the 'SF_Diagnostic_Tool.exe file' as suggested in the tutorial link for better 'BSOD analysis': Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

After download, click 'Grab all' to capture the Mini-Dump, Event Logs, Update Logs, Driver List, System Information and MGDiag reports. Apart from the 'Mini dump' the information in these files is vital for investigation.

In the mean while, try to uninstall 'Sophos Anti-Virus' from the system; you may use 'Microsoft Security Essentials' to see if that helps. Also restore 'BIOS' to 'default settings' and check results.

Do reply with the information; would be glad to assist.

Hi,

I have a laptop that periodically gets a BSOD (I do not have a screenshot of the error message). I have a minidump folder in the Windows directory, but no dump file appears after a BSOD. Is there any kind of tool that I can run to see if any drivers are outdated or corrupted? Any thoughts/suggestions is greatly apprecaited.

Thanks

Hey guys, it's been a while since I needed some help, but here goes. I have a windows 7 64 machine, i7 processor, 9 gigs ram, etc. Well, I've done a re install of windows since I bought the machine two months ago.

I noticed, a couple times, that when I woke up, my computer was on the blue screen physical dump page. This has happened twice, and is the reason why I reinstalled windows the first time. I suspect it's because I update my computer automatically during the night.

Nothing has been installed on this save a couple computer games. This computer has NEVER been to any malicious sites, and generally, java is turned off for safer surfing with this. I consider this my productivity machine for video editing, etc. so I really would love to know what's going on here. Thanks in advance, I love what goes on here.

BTW, I hope this is the right dump file, I've never dealt with these.

A:Please help read dump file

Your error is 0x00000050: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

This means requested data was not in memory and an invalid system memory address was referenced. This error can be caused by:

1. Defective memory (including main memory, L2 RAM cache, video RAM).

2. Incompatible software (including remote control and antivirus software) might cause this Stop message, as may other hardware problems (e.g., incorrect SCSI termination or a flawed PCI card).

This is what I suggest at this time:

A. Run memtest on your RAM for a minimum of 7 Passes. www.memtest.org

B. One processor of note is Sptd.sys which is a driver used by the CD Rom emulation program, Daemon Tools Version 4. There have been reports of problems with this driver. Google it and you'll see what I mean.

Therefore, either uninstall and then re-install or update this program.

A:Bluescreen and dump file

Hi jaybob275,

The culprit is faulty memory. You can run memtest to stress the ram. If memtest reports the ram is faulty, ram is bad. However Memtest is not a perfect tool to test the memory as some faulty ram can pass memtest.

Suggestion
1. Check the temperature of the CPU and make sure that it is not overheat (ie temperature < 60C)
Make sure that the CPU fan works properly
2. Reseat the memory stick to another memory slot. Reseat video card as well.
3. Downclock the ram. Check to default setting if you video card is overclocked.
4. Clean the dust inside the computer case
5. Make sure that the ram is compatible to the motherboard
6. Check the bios setting about memory timing and make sure that it is on
For example : DIMM1 and DIMM2 do not have the same timing.
DIMM1: Corsair CMX512-3200C2 512 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM (2.5-3-3-8 @ 200 MHz) (2.0-3-3-7 @ 166 MHz)
DIMM2: Corsair CMX512-3200C2 512 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM (3.0-3-3-8 @ 200 MHz)
DIMM3: Corsair CMX512-3200C2 512 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM (3.0-3-3-8 @ 200 MHz)
7. Make sure that your PSU have adequate power to drive all the hardware including USB devices
8. Upgrade BIOS and make sure that the motherboard has no leaking capacitor

If it still crashes, diagnostic which memory stick is faulty
1. Take out one memory stick. If windows does not crash, the removed memory stick is faulty.

A:Cannot interpret Dump file

Simply put, that dump doesn't give us the info we want.

It blames ntkrnlmp.exe, which is the main Windows NT Kernel driver. That means whatever offending driver gave up control to the kernel before it crashed.

Or, it means hardware is the cause.

We do know it has the bugcheck 1A. You can read about it here: http://www.carrona.org/bsodindx.html#0x0000001A

You can try enabling driver verifier, to try to get a third-party driver to crash, and leave evidence in dump.

http://www.techsupportforum.com/f217...ed-473665.html

If driver verifier doesn't give conclusive evidence, we can start testing hardware.

If you want to try to debug the dumps yourself, we will be happy to assist you. We are also happy to do it ourselves. If you would like us to take a look, please follow these directions: http://www.techsupportforum.com/f217...ns-452654.html

The system is 14 months old, and my build.
Changes I made yesterday:
Downloaded speccy and google chrome.
No over clocking done.
About a week ago had a side by side error that wouldn't let me open IE9 and CCleaner but when restarting the problem didn't persist.

A:BSOD With Dump File

Not much info from the memory dump that you cited. But the memory dump from 17 Jul points to a network driver
The perfmon report also points to network issues.

Please go to Device Manager and see if there are any problems with the devices in the Network Adapter category. If there are, right click on those devices and select "Uninstall" - then reboot the system. Then re-check Device Manager and see if any of those devices still remain a problem. Let us know what you find out.

Go to this link: GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1156 - GA-P55-USB3 (rev. 2.0)
Enter the OS specifics in the "Choose your OS" dropdown box.
Download the Realtek LAN driver and install it on your system.
Monitor for further BSOD's

Your USB 3.0 drivers are also older - and that version is also known to cause BSOD's w/some Win7 systems.
So please download the latest version of the USB 3.0 drivers from the above link and install them also.

hi and welcome

this crash was probably caused by Gigabyte's Dynamic Energy Saver Advanced program. ... gdrv.sys

I would update the bios.
run a system file check to verify and repair system files to do that
type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow

If you overclocking stop

Hope this helps

Hello, my computer has been randomly crashing, I have tried everything to get a dump file, so that i could analyze it and then try to fix it, but Windows 7 will not leave one. Does anyone have any ideas what might be the problem? (I am running Windows 7 Professional)

A:Crashes with no dump file.

Have you checked in C:\Windows\Minidump for files?
Have you checked in C:\Windows for a file named MEMORY.DMP?
Have you checked to be sure that your pagefile is at least 400 mb larger than your installed RAM?
Have you checked to be sure that your pagefile is located on the same drive as your OS?
Have you checked to be sure that you have at least 15% free space on the drive that holds your OS and pagefile?

I recently put together a machine and for about the first 4-5 days I had 0 problems. Everything was running flawlessly.

However the last 3 days my machine is giving me fits when I try and play Warhammer Online. I went as far as to reformat thinking I had patched something I didn't want too. But that hasn't fixed my problem. I am at a loss here...

After about 10 minutes playing Warhammer Online my system completely locks up. I have to power it off and back on. However, only one of the many times this happened have I received anything to help me debug this.

I have run Prime95, FurMark, Memtest86 with absolutely no problems. Also I have taken out my sound card, unplugged my 2nd monitor, and reduced my RAM to 4GB, but nothing seems to resolve my issue. :(

Anyway here is what I am getting from the WinDbg

A friend has a new DELL laptop [sorry don't know which one] with "Vista" OS. Frontiernet.net recently installed DSL in her area. She signed up and is now online with DSL. Problem is: Every time she shuts the computer down, it dumps her DSL and she has to re-install it . Frontier has came back a couple of times and did a checkup and re-install, but it doesn't appear to be their problem. I checked her router [ Siemens ] and it loads up quickly and correctly. I haven't had time to go into her DSL files. If someone knows the answer it will save me a lot of time.
Thanks, caseybru

A:DSL file dump on shutdown

Be careful with the word "dump" especially followed by on shutdown, lol. There are many memory "dumps" on windows computers. You are saying the software for dsl just deletes itself, right?

If you are using ethernet than you likely don't even need software. Plug in and go!

My computer crashed overnight and I have a dmp file. I cannot read it -- and I am not PC savvy enough to work it out with the SDK program, although I did try. The file is attached, zipped. Thank you for any insights!
