Q: win 7 crashes suggested USB issues

Hi My sons PC is crashing lots, it did not do this until he updated windows 8, however having produced a fresh w8 install it still does it, I then installed w7 as a fresh install it does the same, the diagnostic info from the crash dumps from (whocrashed) are given below, this suggests USB issues. Sometimes the computer will last an hour before it crashes others it lasts seconds. When I start it in safe mode there are no crashes.
It does this with the original MOBO chipset disks and also the latest set from gigabytes website, for both w8 and w7
Is it software or hardware processor or Mobo, any help gratefully given. Would flashing the bios help?
Thanks

I just got a new graphic card for my desktop and while im playing WoW (only game im currently playing) i keep getting random video freezes. The mouse still moves around and i still hear the sound from the game, but the games video just stops for about 10-20 seconds. Usually it un-lags and fixes itself, but other times it just crashes the game and goes back to my desktop and its in like a 4bit color look, then shuts off all video feed about 10 seconds after.

Card is an EVGA GeForce GTX 460 SE

If needed i can list all other pc specs.

Help plx. =[

EDIT: Just took out the old graphic card and decided to just send it back to get a replacement incase its some kinda of flaw from production. Decided to just use my onboard graphics instead of reinstalling and then uninstalling my old card while i wait the week for the other one to come back.Onboard graphics are 256 and now my game is instantly crashing and blue screening when i get on. Any ideas?

Hello People..I am newbie here(nab),nice to meet you!!!!!! I am here to take information and help troubleshoot problems....

Well i have a problem, with my new pc... In the first 2,5 weeks it works perfectly running photoshop cs5,5,Lineage 2 for 4+hours continuously and all were going very well...
Suddenly the last 5 days my system start crashing very often, and in some cases before windows log in after windows log in,and some times after log in explorer.exe and aero crashes and system automatically reboot..Well first i thought it was the SEAGATE hard drive because it was the only old part i have kept from my laptop. So i go to buy a new hdd..I installed the Windows 7 64bit(Ultimate-cracked) using a usb flash..Everything ok the system restart for the first log in and BSOD.I restart it BSOD again..I connected Disconected nothing.Only 2 options start windows or recovery both dont work... I thought my new WESTERN DIGITAL HDD it has problem so i get it in my friends computer and tried i pass the windows EVERYTHING WORKED FINE, i take it to my PC and BSOD....

Well i find the problem is in my RAM because with one of the two RAM the computer does not bsod with the seagate hdd but with both rams(as it was in the begining) it will probably crash...I try everything i change the place of rams, the channels everything.....

And now i am using only the one Ram..no bsod at all, but when i play L2 overheat and bsod in about 10 minutes

i just reformatted my pc, ran through some updates and now it crashes and restarts at random times (no BSOD) but when it comes up the error report is here: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/response.aspx?...bfae822c&SID=10i am running windows XP sp2 updated, so i ran another scan with drivershq.com and they came up with this:http://www.drivershq.com/Non-Members-Resul...sp?guid=1231696my question is, how do i get those drivers, ive been searching for a while with no luck... suggestions?

A:Driver Issues, Pc Crashes

Looks like you had an error when reloading Windows if the report from drivers headquarters is accurate.

If you can get to your device manager, update the drivers wherever there is a red or yellow warning mark.

Seeing that you just reformatted, you might just want to do a repair installation of windows.

Hi,
Recently I have been experiencing issues with my Dell XPS 17 L702X laptop whereby all of a sudden the screen will appear with large streaks of "pixely type failing". I'm not quite sure how to describe it but the screen itself completely fails as it appears with streaks of bugging out graphics all across it. The laptop remains turned on and I am told by friends (who I have been online with at the time) that my laptop was still running fine, even though the screen itself  was completely bugging out so I am unable to do anything. The only fix I have found is to hold the power button until the laptop shuts down and then attempt to start it up again.
This is then usually greeted by my laptop having 12 beeps followed by it shutting itself down. After starting up again the laptop seems fine but then only 10 minutes or so into using it, the entire screen failing and bugging out will start again, and so the cycle repeats.
I have tried updating drivers apparently they are all up to date so I am not sure what te issue is. I am running Windows 10 and the laptop itself doesn't appear to be too overly hot so again I am completely baffled as to what the issue is. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,

I initially created a post in the hardware sub-forum about my GPU issues, but no one responded. The main idea was that with every few seconds there would be a slight stutter/frame skip. It wasn't microstuttering as it was smooth until the eventual stutter. Then it got to the point where I'd be getting 50 fps instead of 60 with vsync, as if it thought my monitor was 50hz. It would lock to 50 fps and then jump back to 60 fps occasionally. I constantly monitor my temperatures, so it's not those for sure.

I updated my video drivers and the first thing that happened after I restarted was a bsod which I have attached the dump for. This happened on the 25th, and now it started again today. At first, today, it didn't crash in the sense of a bsod, but it just froze with whatever was on the screen at the time. After that, I was on firefox and it froze, audio continues for about 10 seconds and then it cuts out. Then playing a game I got an actual bsod, which I have also attached for analysis if needed.

I have already installed the previous driver that was installed, cleaned out everything including the use of Driver Sweeper so there is no trace of the newest drivers. I have had ram problems and replaced the sticks which have worked for 4 months, so I'm hoping it's not that.

Basically I'm just wondering what in the world is causing these freezes and crashes, so I can have it dealt with. Any help is appreciated, and I'm willing to answer any... Read more

My brand new HP I7 laptop keeps crashing with STOP F7.
It can go a whole day or crash within minutes, sometimes on restart. I have added no hardware.

There does not appear to be any common factor to determine when it will crash.

I have performed a full memory test and this shows nothing.

I also have a problem with both IE8 and Firefox. They create multiple entries in taskmanager but will not show visible windows except sometimes a 'ghost' window. A reboot is required to get back into them.

Both of these are making the laptop almost unusable and am near to pulling hair out.

A:stop F7 crashes and browser issues

I had a similar problem with my HP2133. It simply froze after an inconsistent running time, which could be anything from a few minutes to a couple of hours. After reaching almost dispair and searching endless helpsites, I finally boiled it down to overheating. To resolve I initially went into the BIOS settings and set the fan to run continuously, which solved the problem - but I was then worried about burning out the fan, so I bought a Akasa Everest base for the laptop and it all works fine now, it will run all day no problem. I also upgraded the RAM to 2GB (maximum possible in my HP2133), whether that helped I don't know, but my final conclusion was that my problem was overheating. Hope this helps.

when i first started the computer i had to manually shut down because i thought it froze. i think this may be the root of the problems. it was a stupid move. so recently i did a reformat from my windows reinstall disk. but the computers behaves exactly the same. perhaps i did not do a full reformat?

The problem i am having consists of the following:
Blue Screen: i can't exactly remember what it says something like the below.
"...disable bios caching or shadowing if issues continue..."
"...please make sure any new programs have been installed correctly..."
etc etc this blue screen crash happens very randomly. while i am browsing, more rare while i am gaming, sometimes during work. or sometimes just idle.
if it helps i will take a picture of the screen
or provide any logs.
"superfetch has stopped working" almost every time the computer is started
"ready boost has stopped working" though this is very rare
random firefox crashes happens very often

could all this be that my ram is broken? i have done the Microsoft memory checker and things turned out perfect.

Hello

I'm having issues with my computer that I hope somebody out there can help me with, there a few Things I need to explain so bear with me.

A typical rutine at the moment is me starting my pc with no problems, but after a few minutes it crashes and starts up again, then the fun begins. Sometimes the Bios will make what sounds like one long and 3/2 small beeps, which I've heard is the code for Video Card error and the screen will not Work. The Bios issue sometimes also come without a crash preceeding it. Then I have to constantly try and restart the computer until it will start normally, however this time it will take ages and sometimes it will just turn off after a period of time or crash again during startup. When it finally start again after the original crash, there is nothing weird besides a frustrating low performace on games etc. etc.

If anyone can point me towards what might cause these issues and possible fixes I would be gratefull.

In advance, thanks.

Hiya, new here but I have lurked every now and again when I had computer troubles. I'll try to be as complete and descriptive as possible with my problem, I hope someone can aid me in my struggle against whatever is happening to my other computer.

Please feel free to ask any questions about certain details, what happens, etc., etc.

Basic Computer Specs:

Windows XP SP3
AMD Duron 1300MHz Processor
512 SDRAM (2x256MB)
500W Delta PSU
1x 40GB IDE HardDrive
CD Drives: LG newer model DVD-RW
MSI older model drive
Generic mouse and keyboard
Floppy disk drive (works, but I am not sure on model name)

Not too sure on the motherboard, will post once I get its name and production date.

This computer was found in a dumpster and I decided to take it in under my wing after a small rainstorm, after noticing a power cable hanging out of the side of the dumpster bin. Please note everything on this computer worked perfectly fine (except the built-in nVidia FX5500 in the motherboard, which I assume died before or after the rainstorm) I hooked the monitor up to the slot card (also FX5500) and display was working fine. Disabled the motherboard video card.

So, I've had this issue since near the end of January when I tried to (reluctantly) install a small internal speaker and two USB 2.0 slots for the front of my case without the manual for my motherboard. Stupid, I know. But I thought I could have managed it. Computer would not boot up after that, bu... Read more

How heart-endingly pathetic. POOR little computer, desparately clinging to life after having been ruthlessly thrown into the dumpster, like a piece of GARBAGE.

Sad little computer, desperately waving it's little power cable out of the cruel steel door of it's tomb, heroically rescued by you.

Aloha!

Recently my system had some crashes.

Before, there occured strange issues with the Network. At some point in time my network card did no longer receive packages. Windows did not detect any hardware issues. The behavior was as if the switch went defective and the cable was still puggled in. deactivating/activating the network adapter sometimes resolved the issue. Sometimes the Network-Adapter could not be activated again.

As i suspected a hardware issue i did the following:
- RAM Test (except shared ram for gpu)
- CPU Burn-In with Checks
- replaced all network cables
- replaced router, switches and respective power sources
- replaced the power supply of my computer
- checked for visible damage on my mainboard
- replaced the network card

And for possible software issues:
- Upgraded from Vista to Win7

Still won't work reliable.

Could someone hint me to the source of the issues?
What do the error codes say?

Thanks a lot.

[EDIT] I don't have minidumps of the issue, but normal size dumps. After the next crash i can provide you with a minidump. [/EDIT]

Hi,
My Toshiba laptop, running Windows 8.1, started having the BSOD screens a couple of days ago. I searched online for solutions and have tried very many attempts to fix it but I keep getting the BSOD.
I have had several BSOD error's "Page_fault_in_nonpaged_area (win32k.sys)", "System_service_exception", "Resource_not_owned". These are some of the ones I have noted.

- I refreshed my Windows OS, reinstalled it, attempted diagnosing and repair. All these came back with no fault but when I log in and open a file or launch a web browser I still get the BSOD.
- I run "sfc.exe /scannow" and "sfc /scannow" and it all came back with no fault.
- I run a memtest and no faults were found.
- Updated all the windows update, recomended and optional, but still have the BSOD crashes
- Updated all the drivers I could find from Microsoft and Toshiba, Installed Toshiba diagnostics and Hardware setup and it all comes back with no errors. Deleted and installed the display drivers several times as it seems to be a recurring issue on most online forums.
- I have logged in 'safe mode' and run tests but still no result.
- Run multiple chkdsk /f /r and it has found no errors
Any help will be highly appreciated

Hi Liadavide,

Welcome to the 8forums.

According to the information you have 2 antivirus programs runnin, AVG and McAfee.
Please remove all antivirus programs until you have max 1 active, McAfee Uninstall, AVG Uninstall.

Please download and run MemTest86+ to test your RAM. RAM tutorial with Memtest86+ | Windows 7 Helpforums
Run MemTest86+ for at least 8 passes. Ideally set it off before you go to bed and leave it overnight, we're looking for zero errors here. A single error will show something's going bad with your RAM.

Please read and run driver verifier | Sysnative after removing either McAfee or AVG and running memtest86+.Please make a backup of your important files and get your rescue media or create one. Please create a restore point. Some windows drivers are blamed in a few crashes, but that usually means that a 3rd party driver is actually the cause. In order to get the driver, we need to stress it out, done via driver verifier. If driver verifier finds a violation the pc will crash. If driver verifier has found a violation and you can't get back into windows normally, try to boot into safe mode and reset in safe mode driver verifier, or in the troubleshooting options open command prompt and type verifier /reset.

Hi guys,
I'm not sure if this is a virus or not (i run spybot regularly and always have a firewall and anti-virus on). Basically, i'll be using my pc to surf or game when i suddenly am unable to connect to the iternet. Clicking on my iternet connection yields nothing (it still says i am connected, although no information is going in or out). When i try to disconnect/reconnect the connection window freezes up. When i try to CTRL+ALT+DLE to open taskmanager i get an error window that basically says "error opening program (0cx0000017)" usually followed by a crash that removes everything but my desktop background. The only way i can get out of this is to shut down the computer (on a restart everything is fine till it does it again). This happens rather randomly, but at least twice a day and can get quite annoying. I'm lost, so your guys help is greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Interested in the outcome of this as I'm having similar problems suddenly. I fear an undiscovered as yet virus. I have to almost always click on a link twice to get it to go through. then I get the same hang, freeze etc.

Hi there!

I have been having major issues with my pc as of late..
I have scanned it, and there are no virus's, and this includes with those random "free online" scans, that tell you there are virus' when there are none.. well my pc is even clean to them..
I find random things saying services cannot be started, or the starting failed, or.. god, tons of things.. but, this one I checked my event logger tonight and there was something like 124 logs of it in one hour.. this is the event..

The WinPcap Packet Driver (NPF) service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

I don't suppose someone could suggest something to help?

I DO have a hijack this file.. but, I just scanned and saved, I didn't mess with it.. I will do it again, just so it is up to date.

I also have "whocrashedthis" and there are paging issues, and all this other stuff, I do not understand..

Man, what a time to be an "a typical blonde"... or rather, to feel like one. sigh.

How does wireless device hook up, via a PCI/PCIe slot or in a USB port?

It appears networking related especially if it's a USB wireless adapter as several are referencing tcpip.sys, tdx.sys, networx.sys several others the iusb3xhc.sys(which could be anything plugged into a USB port or the USB3 driver).

Is it possible to test the system with the wireless adapter removed using a wired connection?

Ok, I'll try to explain this as best I can.

A couple nights ago I was on my computer and it was fine...then I got back on a couple hours later and it was all FUBAR'ed.

Firefox would crash before it would even open, and neither Spybot or Ad-Aware would open at all.

IE worked, so I re-downloaded Spybot and Ad-Aware.

I ran Spybot once, it found some problems and fixed them, then crashed, and now won't open at all. Kinda the same thing with Ad-Aware, after install I attempted to update it and it froze up and now won't open either. Additionally, I was getting a constant error (every 30 seconds or so) from Ad-Aware saying "LOADER ERROR: The procedure entry point HttpQueryInfoA could not be located in the dynamic link library WININET.dll" I went to Add/Remove Programs and uninstalled Ad-Aware and I at least got it to stop giving me that error message. I also apparently have an older version of Ad-Aware on the computer (circa 2007), but when I try to remove it, it gives me the same error as above.

Additionally...when I reboot the computer, it brings up 3 different error messages saying that QTTask.exe, Windows Defender and AIM failed to initialize.

So, I'm a little stumped as to exactly what the problem is. Firefox seems to be working more normally now most of the time but occasionally it will still tell me it has crashed before it even opens.

I don't know whether I have a malware problem, or a hard-drive-in-death-throes problem, or what. But I figured it was best to start here, so if it's not a virus I can go over to the XP forum with that ruled out.

Over the past few months my desktop has been steadily driving me nuts. First it began giving me BSODs at random intervals, anything from a day to a month apart. (Currently, about once every three weeks.) The most common error is 0x0000008E, but I've also had 0x00000019, 0x00000024, 0x1000000A, 0x0000004E (PFN_LIST_CORRUPT), 0x0000007F, 0x0000000A (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL), and 0x00000050 (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA). Usually it crashes at startup, but it has taken as much as twenty minutes. I've tried defragging the hard drive, using a registry cleaner, and replacing Sygate firewall (see below) but nothing appears to have worked.

Then Sygate starting occasionally crashing while I was online. I replaced it with PC Tools free firewall, which hasn't had any problems. (Yet...)

Somewhere in the last several months (hard to say whether it was before or after Sygate and the BSODs, it seems to have been creeping up for a while) Firefox developed an increasing tendency to hang. It reached the point where it was basically non-functional for a good quarter hour after connecting. During that time doing anything - maximising or minimising windows, accessing the start menu - took forever. Then Firefox started crashing - constantly. I worked my way through the official trou... My PC has been freezing. Before you yell at me this is what I've tried.
?Checked hardware, no yellow ! marks
?Checked memory...all 6 scans 2 passes...nada.
?Checked drivers...diagnostic came up empty handed
?turned off startups...disabled windows services...nothing
?Defraged, disc cleanup, reverted to an earlier state for windows...none helped
?attempted to change Anti Virus Programs since Avira & Mcafee caught nothing...
now I can't install AVG because Mcafee is still present somehow...although
I couldn't uninstall it the traditional way...I googled and found links from threads that led
me to the uninstall tool...which I ran and rebooted...it's no longer in the uninstall options..but
AVG still says it can't Install because of McAfee.

I'm basically posting this now..because I don't see any fixes different than the ones I've already tried.
Can anyone help. I did go through some of the rules and if I broke any of them in this post...I appologize. I'm in safe mode now and my screen size sucks typing this too. Thanks. I'm glad
I was able to get this typed before my PC froze again.
Windows XP, Dell Vostro 410, had it for about 2 years. It's my shop pc...I own a sign shop...this is my

I run a Dell 550mhz with 128mb ram,
Computer runs extremely slow and hangs.
ZoneAlarm was NOT RESPONDING, so I removed it.
Internet Explorer and Mozilla errors - NOT RESPONDING

So....
I ran SPYBLASTER
I ran SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY
I ran AD-AWARE
I ran REGISTER PATROL
I stopped almost all programs from beginning at startup.
I removed programs not used.
I defragmented the disk.
I removed ZoneAlarm, as it seemed to be part of the problem (NOT RESPONDING).

But now the slowness has returned so....

I ran Hijackthis, and here's the log:

Just to clarify, you have only 128MB of memory? What operating system do you have? Also, you most definitely need an anti-virus program at all times.

A:Suggested Hjt Log

Hello healing41 and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I see no signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean.

Fragmentation isn't really a malware issue. It is just a natural occurance that happens over time. XP has a built-in defragmenter and there are many 3rd party disk-defragmenters. It is good to defragment a drive occasionally but unless the disk is heavily fragmented and the free disk space is less than about 10% of the drive there will probably not be a noticible performance improvement. The 2 files that will have the biggest impact from fragmentation are the swap file and the Master File Table which can only be defragmented with 3rd party defragers. NTFS file systems handle file fragmentation better than the old FAT system found on older operating systems like Win98 so an acasional defrag with the built-in XP utility should be Ok.

Cheers.

Howdy. Ever since I upgraded my rig (HD 6870 + new case) a little less than a year ago (back when the 6870 was first released), I have been having major problems. One thing has snowballed into another, and seeing as how these problems have occured over such a long amount of time, I will try to give the most details as I can for as far back as I can remember.

So this time roughly a year or less ago, I was needing to upgraded by rig. Most notably, I wanted to upgrade my aging Nvidia 9600 GT. I went ahead and purchased an HD6870, only to find it was a but long for my case by maybe 1/4th of an inch. I preceded to buy a new tower, only to find that I was getting occasional graphical issues with the card in some games (specifically, I would be playing the game, then the game would freeze, a black screen with white jagged lines would appear, the sound would studder rapidly, then the game would show the desktop but still be open, that is even though I was staring at my desktop, I could hear sounds/move around).

I did a lot of searching/asking around and was told my 450w power supply likely did not do the job correctly. So I upgraded to a 750w power supply, only to find a very weird error where the power supply would not turn on/off with the system. I asked around and on some forums and was told a faulty power supply was at fault. I then got another, considerably more expensive 700w power supply but the problem persisted.

I have tried damn near everything and I am beginning... Read more

A:Weird Application Crashes/Hardware Issues

You may wanna whip out HWMonitor and check voltages. If you see any deviation beyond 5% either way for the positive rails (like 4.75~5.25 for +5V rail), then you got a problem. Best to check this during gameplay when the system is stressed. If voltage readouts are available on your BIOS, you should check those too to get a baseline for how your power is fairing. If even the baseline is skewed, then you can bet your bottom dollar it's the PSU. Also, what brand is the PSU?

The TDR resets on your video card that you're experiencing (driver failed and successfully recovered) means your video card or drivers did not respond in a designated time frame, and Windows tried to kick it back into shape by refreshing the drivers. This is usually a hardware prob, as the driver will not do anything as it's waiting for a response from your video card, hence triggering TDR.

I recently installed windows 7 about a week ago, since then I've noticed that My network adapter will stop working random and will not work again until it is reset.

I have also noticed that since I got my new gfx card(ati hd 5770) and windows 7 that sometimes when playing games my computer will crash and display green red and white pin stripes. Just a note all my drivers on the computer are up to date according to Driver Checker (even if thats wrong I manually updated my video drivers)

Any assistance towards fixing these issues would be great.

NOTE: Are there any rules against individuals starting multiple threads? I have another open case for my other computer (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/615349/windows-explorer-crashing/). I don't want to drain Bleepingcomputer's resources too much at one time, so please let me know if I've broken the forum rules by posting a second request for help, and I will delete this thread until my other issue is resolved.

My computer has been having some significant issues over the past couple of weeks. I suspect they are all related, but I'm not sure.

Each of the following causes Windows Explorer to crash:

*** Trying to access "My Computer" in any way

*** Right-clicking on any program or any folder. I can right-click within programs, but not to access/open programs or folders.

*** Trying to run applications like "cmd" or "msconfig" by searching for them and then selecting them from the list of programs the search finds. Other programs - like Steam or Skype - open fine this way. I am able to access cmd, msconfig, and the like by opening the "Run" dialogue box using the Windows key + r, but not otherwise.

I don't get an error number or report (at least that I am aware of) when Windows Explorer crashes. I just get a pop-up window that says "Windows Explorer has stopped working. Windows is searching for a problem." Then, the screen goes blank (with the exception of my desktop wallpaper), and then Windows Explorer restarts.

Please run System File Checker

The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces corrupted and incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

Click on the Start orb and then type cmd in the Search programs and files box.

In the pane above the search box Programs will appear with cmd below it, right click on cmd and select Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, enter the password, or click Allow.

This will open the Elevated Command Prompt, it will look similar to the image below.

Copy and paste sfc /scannow in the command prompt, then press Enter to start the scan.

If the scan finds no integrity  problems the scan will stop.  Type in exit, then press Enter to stop the scan.

When the scan is finished and if intergrity issues are found (corrupt files that couldn't be repaired), please do the following.

Click on the Start orb then type cmd in the Search box.

CMD will appear above the search box, right click on it and select Run as administrator.

not too good at understanding the crashes but tried following some guides. Managed to read the memory.dmp file using windb.

it gave back this

My understanding was "TrustedInstall" is the issue which is the windows updater? but only got that far. Decided it was better in your hands.

I also have several minidumps if you want to read those.

Also possible completly irrelevant is my laptop sits at around 55-80degrees. Is that normal? or above average? The fan also seems to be running at full speed quite often even when idleing or just surfing the net.

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks.

This has happened to me twice so far, and I'm always quick to disconnect my PC from the internet when it does happen, but it seems that whenever I'm having severe connectivity issues - IE I get repeatedly bounced off of my wireless connection a scant several minutes apart - my Kaspersky will crash and turn itself off, only to reboot itself.  Is this normal at all, are there ways to prevent it happening in the future, and is it possible for any damage to occur during the brief moments of downtime that occur when this happens?

I have been having major intermittent problems with my PC since I got it about a year ago, and despite my best attempts to find the source of the problems they're still continuing. Although I have built PCs myself in the past this one was built by a friend who is very experienced. The specs are as follows:

Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 7601)
ASUSTeK Computer INC. P8P67 PRO
Intel Core i5-2500K
16gb Corsair Vengeance RAM (Currently have 8GB installed)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570
Asus Xonar D2 sound card

Apologies in advance for the wall of text, I'll try to be an concise as I can but I'm describing about 14 months progression of an issue...

The problems with the PC started almost immediately but have had varying levels of severity since I have owned it. Initially the PC would crash during certain games, all monitors turning a solid colour of green or pink and the audio looping over half a second or so until I restarted the PC manually. The crashes would become more and more frequent (and still do, a year on) until I reinstall windows at which point there would be a period of stability of anything from a few weeks to several months. I researched the crashes on google and found a lot of conflicting information from different people having similar issues.
In the end, after updating my bios, installing OS updates, etc I decided that the problem was probably the video card and swapped it out for an old nvidia stone age 1.0 (very old card, no idea ... Read more

A:Frequent crashes / undetected hardware issues

Since the PC is home built, you can replace the motherboard and use the same OEM copy of Windows since in essence you are the OEM. No issue there.

What power supply do you have? An underpowered or faulty powersupply can account for most of the problems as much as the motherboard or damage the motherboard and/or other hardware.

Have you at any point ran memory and hard drive diagnostics?

I suspect you might have more than one issue at this point. You can use Memtest86+ to test the RAM and each hard drive manufacturer has their own drive diagnostics. Both things can be found on the UBCD: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

Windows installing and having less issues can make sense, if you have faulty hardware it can corrupt the software and make things progressively worse, this is especially true if the hard drive has bad sectors or the RAM is faulty or incompatible.

Also have you ever updated the motherboard BIOS? If not you should as they list lots of fixes and stability fixes in every release. You only need to flash the latest BIOS as it includes all previous fixes: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8P67_PRO/#support_Download_30

Hello !! Welcome to SF !!

I guess the IE is messed up resulting this behaviour. The best thing to do would be to reset IE to default settings then try to turn off suggested sites might fix it.

Thanks

Hi friends,
I am an exclusive FF user (except for MS sites ).
I found a very good extension for FF which I would like to share with you. Its called Flashblock 1.5.1. Go to Mozilla homepage>extensions and search with above name. You will find it.
It stops all the flash materials on an webpage and gives you an option to allow it to play it or not. As most of the flash materials are AD so it also increases your security.
My yahoo pages are loading lightning fast now. Try it & LoL.

A:Suggested Extention for FF

Thanks src. Another one you might want to install for extra security is NoScript which blocks all javascript, and has an option to block flash as well. It puts an icon in the status bar which you can click to allow java/flash for a particular site if required.

Not sure if I have put this in the right place but here goes
1. Browser Choice. In Europe we get this option. But when it is taken (I stayed with IE10) the Browser Choice App remains and I cant get rid of it. There seems to be no means to uninstall it. Tried various sites on the web nothing works.
2. In the useful tutorial on backup using W7 recovery in Control Panel there is an option to backup system image to an external drive. I have one @1Tb but it starts then says cant proceed drive full - when it clearly is not. Any ideas? Is it not possible to backup the system image to SkyDrive ?
3. I do not use the Start Screen (Metro) as such but do put into it useful stuff that I need at odd times eg Administrative Tools. There seems to be no way to resize or recolour the tiles apart from "large" or "small". This is a nuisance as it gets too big to fit the screen. I found a site on the web that says it does this but my Rapport tells me it is unsafe so I have not tried it.
4. Is there a way to sort a block on the start screen(Metro) alphabetically without dragging tiles around one at a time.
5. A tutorial on each of these would be grand. I have found tutorials truly useful generally.
Thanks

I recently replaced and upgraded my memory from 12GB to 32GB (using Cruicial.com)

Since then, I've been having all sorts of inconsistent problems ranging from Startup issues, BSOD, crashes, memory errors.

I ran it through MEMtest and it passed. Ran it through startup diagnostics and it passed.

Still unclear if i have the right drivers since Dell's web site for my PC is so poor with info.

It may be faster to do a clean install. So, I guess I'm here to ask how to prepare for a smooth clean install that won't take 3 days of wrestling with my PC. Any tips would be appreciated.

Hello. I need your advice or assistance with a specific issue.

When I play long videos on YouTube (Say over 5 minutes long.) sometimes (not always) I get an issue with the video playing at the near or the end of the video.

These are the sequence of steps of what is happening near the end or a later part of the playing video:

1. Video usually instantly freezes (as a still image) while the sound is still being played. Mouse and keyboard (sometimes) not responsive and other times I can move the mouse, but none of the buttons like closing the web browser will close. This can last 1-2 seconds. I notice at times too when I click on another system activity, for example clicking on another tab in the browser while the video is playing, this video freeze will happen instantly in a longer playing video too.

2. After the frozen still image which lasts for 1-2 seconds , the screen flashes quickly black a couple of times for a total time of 1-2 seconds.

3. After the brief black screen flashes, I get the screen clipping I have attached here (see below). The video screen is solid green, and the message from the notification area stating, "Display driver stopped responding and had recovered. Display driver AMD driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered." The mouse and keyboard are fully operational at step 3. The video will not respond. Obviously, video play cannot be resumed. I have to close the browser window and start all over again if I want to... Read more

A:Online Video Playing Issues -- Freezes & Crashes???

The green video is a known bug with Flash. It isn't AMD or Nvidia specific and can happen on either equally. It can also happen from one driver update to the next, with no real rhyme or reason as to when or why it happens.

Not sure that I have ever seen what exactly causes it or if it will ever be fixed. That said one of the fixes for it is to disable the hardware acceleration support in Flash. Just right click on the video (normal or green) and select settings, then uncheck "enable hardware acceleration". Refresh the page and it should be OK.

That should take care of the green video problem and hopefully also fix the other problems with flash videos crashing the driver.

This is a Dell 9150, 3.2gHz P4, 16KB primary and 4G secondary cache. running windows xp home

This is my kids computer and after a couple years of downloading things they shouldn't have the system was slow and was having some issues like rebooting, blue screens, etc. Not very often but enough to be a bother. So, it was decided to repartition the HD and reload the original software via the Dell installed F11 method. The software was loaded, XP home was upgraded with the latest downloaded hotfixes, service paks, etc. The drivers were all updated with the recommended driver updates and downloads from the Dell site. All seemed to be working well... until the blue screen of death. The most reoccuring message is "special pool detected memory corruption' with an occassional "crql_not less or equal". So luckly I have my own laptop and researched these and followed the many suggestions. Here is what I have done:
-Reinstalled everything (software) several times in various configurations (sometimes with and without new drivers and downloads)
-ran updated dell diagnostic from utility partician and all items reported aok. several times.
-Could not get windows started several times, went to repair console and ran chkdsk which found many orphaned files typically sqlite files which i think are from mcafee and some TRF##.tmp file which I think is the background picture. chkdsk repaired and windows started.
-eventually windows would not start. I found the online MS mem... Read more

Ok, here's the issue:

Under "My Documents" folder:
Two windows open, one empty for a new file to go into... One with the original file I wish to transfer.

Once the file is dragged & dropped to the empty folder I created in "My Documents", it becomes inaccessible. "C:\\.... Folder is not accessible, Access is denied"

Also if it's a file I moved to a different folder in the "my documents" section, it will no longer open for the same reason. When I use the program pertaining to the specific file to open it, it will tell me that it cannot open that file.

When I try to copy that file, I get an explorer crash and a "send error report" screen. I can't check the error because explorer goes down along with the net. When I check the error report, MS has nothing about this problem in their archives. Can anyone help on this?

I installed my linksys wrt54G v1 router that has DD-WRT v32 SP2 on it and my network worked great. I then plugged in my linksys switch with about 20 devices (internet phones, networked printers, windows pc, linux asterisk phone system) already connected and on. Almost immediately my internet went down, I could not access my router hardly ever, and lan connectivity failed or was flaky at best.
The dhcp lease table did not show the new devices assigned except for several static assignments.

I unplugged the switch, power cycled the router and all was fine.
I then plugged in the switch without devices and worked fine.
I turned off all networked devices connected to the switch, turned them on one at a time. Then everything worked. The lease table showed all the devices with default lease time of 24 hours.
About 48 hours later I walked into the office with internet down, no lan connectivity, and could not log onto the router either.
I performed the same fix above, and now we are working again just fine.

I had the same problem with a stock linksys 8 port router and using either the linksys switch or a netgear switch.

I think I am having lease renewal dhcp issues, but I have never experienced this problem before. I would appreciate your advice to avoid the next network crash - it ruins my morning.

Thanks.

I have a few problems that I hope can be explained better and repaired with help. I'm including a lot of information, as much as I can actually, so hopefully someone can tell me what I'm missing.

First my recovery drive is almost maxed, 655MB of space left. I cannot get in to remove any of the older files-which I believe are just recovery files. I'm not sure what to do aside from create a recovery disc and dump the whole drive (if I can even manage to do THAT, it seems locked completely to me) which I don't like the risk involved.

Second problem is the random crashing. From what I gather this is related to my paging. If I run to much, it shuts down. Even three tabs on youtube has crashed it. I've already turned off the automatic restart (from reading here) so I can view the error codes next time it happens. I'm posting below some of the information from even viewer from the last shut down incase that helps.

This is my situation.

I was using the Radeon 9550 until it overheated and suffered from Graphical Artifacting.

I then came into possession of a new variant of the exact same card, the Radeon 9550, except with a fan instead of a heatsink.

Now my problem is that my computer crashes at a very bizarre pattern (can crash once in 5 hours, after that, 5 times in 30 minutes) with this card installed. After the crashes, alot of the time I had to reinstall the drivers, and after the crashes it would state that the drivers were the root of the problem. I've reinstalled many of my drivers, including the Omega drivers for the card at www.omegadrivers.net, and with that driver the card lasted for a very long time before freezing and crashing (granted, the installation did seem to hang for a bit, so I had to cancel it, however it said that the installation was complete when I did this).

I don't know the make or the specs of my mobo, but the GFX card is AGP 8x.

Thank you so much if you can help me, I really want to get back to my normal gaming life.

Thanks in advance,
John.

Hello,
My parents bought an AX3995-UR20 in the last year, and very little has been downloaded on to it, so mostly the computer has the default programs. I have downloaded Word of Tanks onto it, but nothing other than the default game has been added, and I've experienced no issues with the game itself. Some of the problems I've been having are:
- Google Chrome crashes regularly
+ This usually happens when multitasking after Chrome is opened; I'll switch to another program (IE, WoT, etc.) and chrome will freeze, and then crash
+Issues with Google Chrome also happen to IE
+ WoT will update its state as I have Chrome maximized (move to another loading screen/ start game) and this seems to be when Chrome crashes.
+Chrome will also freeze/crash when I do something in Chrome, such as load a gif, without anything else open
- The computer will not update
+ it asks for a restart to update, and then fails to finish and abandons the update
+ this also happens when I attempt to force an update
- Sometimes, after sleeping, the computer will black screen and needs to be turned off manually before it can be used
+ I really don't like manually shutting off the computer every other time I need to use it, I don't want to hurt it/ corrupt data
-Word has crashed when I attempted to save my document; this has happened only once and could be a fluke
- Intel Support Manager tells me it crashed almost every time I log in

I'm happy to supply additional information; I'm not sure what you guy... Read more

I reinstalled firefox and the problem persisted there, but like I said weird behavior on other browsers too and also had computer screen freeze and make weird beeping sounds twice and I shut it down and restarted. Here was my original post:
"I don't really know if it was a hard disk or a hard drive or if it's related to the problem in any way. I've also had a cat walk across the keyboard a few dozen times. Could've been that! Anyway, I had my laptop hard disk or drive go bad and all my info get wiped after only a few months with this new Dell. No sign it was going it just went out of nowhere. First time this happened to me out of nowhere. I lost a CRAPLOAD, people! Anyway, I reinstalled firefox which is my favorite browser and now it's acting very strangely and I can't seem to figure it out.

Free Microsoft Security Essentials Holds Its Own Against Paid AV - Softpedia

A:To all that use and have suggested Security Essentials

Nice to know.
I use it exclusively, mostly because I don't see a reason to use anything else at this point. I'm not going to pay for something just for the feeling that "paid is always better".
I have it on my moms netbook(Win7), my laptop(Win7), my kids pc(XP), and my old pc(Vista) which my kid uses when he's at my place. Not once has there ever been a problem.

But always keep in mind, browsing habits are the first line of defense. Doesn't matter how much you did or didn't pay, if you're not careful in the first place, it WILL happen....protected or not. Nothing is perfect.

I got a pop-up window stating that I needed to install a critical update (unfortunately I didn't get a screenshot of this, just clicked okay). A subsequent window cryptically stated, "ThinkPad BIOS Flash Update Utility: Version 29.17, please choose Update ThinkPadBIOS or Update model #" without explaining why I'd need to do so, although the window looked otherwise legit. I ignored the window and it hasn't come up again. Also, I couldn't find anything on this site or elsewhere about a critical BIOS update needed for my laptop. Should I be concerned about updating my BIOS?I checked the bios version from my command prompt, and it is 1.17.

Hi All

I currently work for a mid-sized company that is at a crossroad. The company has used Linux based applications for a number of years which has worked fine for their servers, security, etc. (The desktops have Windows 7). I'm seeing more growth potential with the company and wanted to be ready when the time comes to upgrade the current infrastructure.

So, I have the opportunity to attend some sort of training to help plan for the future and wanted to see what you guys suggest. I'm looking at training for Windows Server, VMWare, or Linux training). I'm looking mainly at providing a better security environment for the company. What do you guys suggest

Thanks for any input

A:Suggested Training for Servers

If the company is Linux based then I would probably focus on Linux training until I knew Microsoft server skill would be needed.

I personally took the Microsoft Official Courses (MOC) in a class room setting, then went to a certification boot camp for 15 days. The boot camps are focused on getting you certified more than making sure you learn everything but you can't help but learn. Having done the courses before hand made boot camp easier but it was still the hardest 15 days I ever spent.

You need to pick one of your options to focus on and see what training is available in your local area. Also be aware the of the 'cloud', if the company goes that direction skills different from 'server' will be needed.

I am posting this as suggested.....I took my computer in to the computer shop to get new stuff put in...motherboard, graphics card etc....was suppose to be like brand new....when i got the computer back it was fine...then of course, i put back on some things i had on my old computer like stopzilla, java, norton antivirus etc...anyway, things seemed to be going ok one day and then the next day i was getting little squares on the top left of the title bar at the top of the web page when it should have said "internet explorer"...i went to a site to log in to check something like i normally do but the "button" i usually click on wouldnt work...the page that should have opened up didnt. But when i click on a normal link like when you click on a word to bring up another page, that works but not all the time...i re installed explorer 7....didnt work...i tried suggestions from members on this board to do with regedit changes and that didnt work..even though i must say that after doing the regedit stuff, and then i opened another web page, the words internet explorer did appear for about 3 seconds...i tried spybot, stopzilla, etc and nothing seems to work....my computer is up s**t creek without a paddle....maybe internet explorer 7 isnt as good as its suppose to be or just something gone wrong with my computer...let me know if you need to know anything else....thanks to those who volunteer their time to help me......

A:Posting this log as suggested..hope someone can help me.

Guess what ....you arent gonna believe this....i uninstalled stopzilla and everything back to normal...i just dont believe it could have been that simple...!!!! so sorry to have bothered everyone! By the way, can anyone suggest a pop up blocker that wont effect my computer like that again!..............many thanks...linda

Ok, quick synopsis: I've had more frequent pop-ups, but nothing insane. However, my computer has been running extremely unstable. My desktop backround has been replaced with an "ad" informing me of spyware infection and I've been unable to change it. My audio drivers constantly and randomly go out, leaving me without audio. If I leave my computer idle for 10 minutes or so Windows crashes and I get that blue screen. Upon restart, I get the blue screen 4 out of 5 times. Overall it runs very slowly when it is operable. I'm unable to update my virus definitions in both AdAware and Ewido (or whatever it's called) and my computer can't make it through a scan.

I went through the five steps, but was unable to complete the Panda scan as my computer would crash before completion. Here's my updated log, thanks in advance for any help--it's much appreciated:

Hello and welcome to TSF.

Apologies for the long delay in response. We have a large number of HijackThis logs to handle and it?s taking us longer to catch up. If you haven?t received help elsewhere already and still require assistance please post a fresh HijackThis log. However, you are using an old version of HijackThis, please follow the instructions below do download and run the latest version.

CLICK HERE to download the HijackThis Installer:Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Double-click on HJTInstall.exe to run the program.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
Accept the license agreement by clicking the "I Accept" button.
Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click "Save log" to save the log file and then the log will open in Notepad.
Click on "Edit -> Select All" then click on "Edit -> Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and paste the log in your next reply.
Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet! Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

You may uninstall/delete the older version once you have successfully downloaded and installed the latest version of HijackThis v2.0.2.

Hello,

I am running Windows XP on Pentium dual core 2.5 GHz with 3 GB of RAM. I am already running Symantec anti-virus software as my default tool. I would like to know your suggestions on which other anti-spyware/anti-malware/firewall tools I should keep running in background in combination with Symantec ? This is just on everyday basis to prevent spywares/viruses/malwares from creeping in.

While not compromising on security, I would like to mention that I don't want too many programs either to hog resources from normal computer work.
Thanks in advance.

A:Suggested softwares to keep running

Spyware blaster does some realtime blocking i believe. Also SUPERANTISPYWARE is good for finding spyware (do short scan daily/few times a week, full scan at least once a month-There are portable versions on the website if you are short on space or want it for others).Malwarebytes Good tool to remove a lot of forms of malwareWith those 3 + my comodo AV i can usually remove anything that i get. Those are all free too so its good-Scott

My four(?) year old system's getting a bit slow, and I'm wondering what my next upgrade should be, so any suggestions on this would be most welcome.

My "Behemoth" is:
333 Celeron @ 416MHz (tho' I might be able to get it to 500 with a good heatsink/fan combo(?!))
BX motherboard
192MB SD RAM
Sound Blaster Live Value soundcard (bought as OEM)
Intel i740 AGP Graphics card
32x CD-ROM
4.75 GB HD (speed unknown) <b><- Edit: added</b>

My OS is Win'98 SE, and the main apps/progs I run are games and mid-level graphics programs like Photoshop 5.0 and GIMP.

A:Suggested upgrade options

Your system does not sound like it would work well for games and graphic software. I wouldn't recommend a Celeron processor for that type of work.

I would recommend a high-end Pentium III or a low end Pentium 4. Don't buy the high-end Pentium 4's since they are overpriced and the benefits do not warrant the high cost.

For gaming, you should get a really good graphics card. Some other people here could probably recommend some good ones. Unless you're playing the latest and greatest games, don't spend the money on the best high-end graphics card. Purchase a step down. You'll save a great deal of money without sacrificing quality.

Your CD-ROM is fine. You only need a DVD drive if you plan to watch movies on your computer or a specific game only comes on a DVD.

Your RAM should work in a new system as long as the motherboard supports SDRAM. All but the newest and most high-end systems do. I would bump it up to at least 256 for games and graphics.

If you're not comfortable building your own system, look for local computer companies that assemble computers from various parts. That way you'd be able to use your components (memory, CD-ROM, memory, maybe hard drive, sound card, case).

Having had more than my fair share of experience with viruses and spyware recently, here's the 2 tips that I give all my customers:

1 - Never click on anything that pops up on your screen unexpectedly. Just right click on the application (usually it's Internet Explorer) in the Task Bar and select "Close" from there. Alternatively, press Alt and F4 simultaneously in order to close the active window. Still another alternative is to use Task Manager (Ctrl - Alt - Del) to close the offending program.

The reason for this is that the "bad guys" can make the window say anything that they want. For example, they can make the little X in the upper right corner of the window (normally used to close a window) actually install the bad stuff on your system.

2 - Don't ever, ever open any email! Yeah, that's a bit extreme - but the bad guys can fake an email from your best friend and you'd never know it until you checked with your friend.

So, always suspect emails with attachments - they're where most of the damage is done. It doesn't matter if it 's just a picture, or if it's a strange file that you have no idea about - they can all be infected with viruses. If you open one, make sure that your anti-virus and anti-spyware programs are running and scanning.

The best way is to "preview" your emails before opening them. Using web-based email, read the text before deciding if the attachment is from someone safe. For email on your computer, use a ... Read more

good point usasma, i know as of late i have been seeing alot of the popus that have an embedded X to close the popup and once you click it will either open a new browser or send junk to your cookies from trackign to even spyware.Alt F4 is the way to go.this is a very valid point ; I recently 'worked' on a very badly infected computer ; the owner and the child felt something was wrong when strange web pages appeared on their computer ( needless to say the child had been using P2P stuff); to close the popups' windows they too clicked on the X in the corner; by so doing matters went from bad to worse and worse and worse..........their delay in seeking help and continued use OF the P2P stuff until I met it , and saw for myself what WAS happening meant that ,despite input and guidance from experts ON getting rid of this rubbish to try to clean it , eventually proved to be impossible and a complete reformat and reinstall was required so, X marks the spot where preferably NOT to go on pop-ups

I can't actually put my finger on anything more specific than "a woman's intuition" that my PC isn't performing as it should. It seems to be slow compared to what it was when new a year ago. I realize that some slow down is expected due to programs added, etc.
I just don't know where to start. It's been suggested that I do a "back to factory" but I can't do that just now. One of my big worries is that I relied on two separate people to set my PC up for me & now after all the reading I've done here at this forum, I'm not sure they know as much about computers as I thought they did.
I'm a dummy myself & don't understand a whole lot so am wondering if it would be worth running some scans like 'check disk, sfc/scannow',etc. just in the 'info mode' instead of a 'repair mode'? I guess my own dumb reasoning is that I'd like to know what, if any, the issue is before it's fixed. Or does the scan give more info than I think it might?
I'm quite sure I'm not having any problems with malware.

I have Avast & MBAM.

Thank you.

Hey everyone.

I used to have an old wifi but it's that old the software I used to use to set it up doesn't even run under 7. This isn't really my problem though since I was pretty sure I'd have to update anyway. It's unlikely it would be able to repeat a signal from an N router let alone use anything better then WEP.

Anyway. I was looking for suggestions on getting a good repeater. I saw this one: Best Wireless Repeater | Wifi Repeaters Boosters and Range Extenders which looks pretty good. I've never used anything from Amped before though so I'm kind of tempted to go for a Netgear or something instead.

I was also considering buying a router and setting DD-WRT up but I don't know how they compare?

Cheers for any advice.

I'm running a P-III/500 machine with an Abit BE6 MB using W98SE.

The MB will support up to three 256MB DIMMs for 768MB total.

I've been getting conflicting advice from salespeople as to whether it's advisable to limit W98SE to 512MB or go to 768MB.

Some say to max it out. One says W98SE has a memory leak problem above 512MB and performance will go down.

Most agreed that upgrading from my current 256MB will show a marked improvement in performance -- apps loading, resources available, less crashes due to pushing the multitasking.

Should I go to 512MB, or should I go to 768MB?

Thanks!

Another day, another pointless and waste of my life ie11 problem.
What is it today?  enterprise mode? Activex? nope, suggested sites.
Tell me why every user has 100s of suggested site links adding to their favourites bar? Also why are all of them empty. Just 100s of empty favourites called suggested sites.

How does this software get released.
This is the same in windows 10 as well, so don't come with that non sense about it being a windows 7 problem.

At least in windows 10 ie11 doesn't need 10 broken prerequsties and another 10 cumulative updates before it works correctly.

Hi matchead

My name is polskamachina and I would like to welcome you back to the Malware Removal Forum. I will be helping you with your malware issues.
What follows below are some ground rules for this forum.
I will reply as soon as possible (typically within 24-48 hours). In turn, I ask that you please respond within 72 hours. If you know you will be away longer than that, please let me know. I am in California at GMT-8 hours (Pacific Standard Time). If I do not respond to you within 48 hours, feel free to send me a private message.
Some points for you to keep in mind:
Do NOT run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability.
Do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
I cannot see your computer. Periodically update me on the condition of your computer, and provide as much detail as you can in every post.
Once things seem to be working again, please do not abandon the thread. I will give an "all-clean" message at the very end.
NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planned. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a flash drive, anywhere except on the computer.
NOTE: It is good practice... Read more

A:Updated Hijack This; they suggested this

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums. Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. If you have not already downloaded Random's System Information Tool (RSIT), please download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random which includes a HijackThis log and save it to your desktop. If you have RSIT already on your computer, please run it again. Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT. Click Continue at the disclaimer screen. Please post the contents of log.txt. Thank you for your patience. Please see Preparation Guide for use before posting about your potential Malware problem. If you have already posted this log at another forum or if you decide to seek help at another forum, please let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and taking the time of two volunteer helpers means that someone else may not be helped. Please post your HijackThis log as a reply to this thread and not as an attachment. I am always leery of opening attachments so I always request that HijackThis logs are to be posted as a reply to the thread. I do not think that you are attaching anything scary but others may do so. While we are working on your HijackThis log, please: Reply to this thread; do not start another! Hello,

I started having a BSoD Loop occur this morning.
I built this computer about one month ago.
I actually was having a similar issue with my prior PC

The only hardware that is the same in the tower is the RAM and the Power Supply.
It has taken a long time to be able to compile this information between crashes.

Most Common BSoD ERRORS:
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (Was the first I received)
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGE_AREA

I have several warning events for:
The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device SWD\WPDBUSENUM\{af6ce934-2f17-

That may coincide with the crashes, i am not sure.

I ran a system restore

I ran windows update

I ran DSKCHK

I ran Driver Verifier

I have disabled fast start up

I have disabled Drivers that show up yellow in safe mode (Printer and Generic PnP Monitor)

I changed my allocated Virtual Memory/Page File size

I ran one full pass of Memtest86 with 0 errors

I then reran it with all CPUs in parallel for more passes, but it would crash in the first minute.

Prime95 instantly crashes

Thank you so much for any help you can provide, and let me know if there is anything else I can provide

Hello, I've been lurking on these forums for a while, and decided to finally register and add a few of my thoughts on software here. There are some excellent threads on good software around this part of the forum, but as always I have some favorites of my own.

Here's my list of useful (free) things; It's not a COMPLETE list, see the stickies for that.. Some of the things I'll list here are alternatives to suggested software in other threads, I'll try to give a brief comment on why I prefer one over another.

NKProds nCleaner - While ccleaner does a good job, it has messed things up for me a number of times. nCleaner hasn't caused any problems at all for me (yet). It does a wonderful job of cleaning up (both disk and registry), and also includes some basic tweaking. The UI is a huge improvement over the really unintuitive ccleaner, and is definetely a better choice for inexperienced users (I recommend it for everyone though, regardless of level of expertise).

PeaZip - It looks better than 7-zip, unpacks TONS of formats and has a native x64 binary... Nothing else to say.

HotSwap! - Safely remove eSATA drives (and other stuff if you choose).... Yes, it needs to be done.

Serious Samurize - Widgets on steroids, there's nothing more customizable. It's not made to be simple though, so expect to fiddle about ALOT if you want something unique.

There goes... Just my few cents.

A:Some suggested software that does a great job.

FWIW, 7Zip also has native 64bit binaries as well....

But I do like Pea, almost as much as I still love me WinRAR....

HiBroni has told me to post my issue here.Basically I can't run Defogger and DDS.scr so I am unable to post any logs, no program whatsoever is able to run or be installed, is there anything else I can do?My original post for more info:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic421879.html/page__p__2429653#entry2429653Pasting in information from that post. ~ OBI have a Windows 7 pc that refuses to run any .exe files and will not allow any programs to be installed.I managed to delete some trojans after running a live linux boot disc, plus GMER which suggested that a Rootkit was found, but the log for that was corrupted.I placed the infected drive in another pc and ran Malwarebytes which detected a further 30 odd files, and also tried Kaspersky's TDSSKiller which reported two suspicious files, one to do with a Fraps installer, the other I can't remember (Doh!). I also ran the Microsoft Safety Scanner and ESET online virus scanner both of which scanned over 500000 files and reported nothing suspiciousI then placed the drive back in to the pc, it boots fine but still won't run or install any programs. I have tried renaming files and changing file extensions. There are no error messages, when I double click a shortcut nothing at all happens, tried in safe mode and as administrator.I have also attempted to create a new user, but again there is no response when clicking create a new user.I can't get Hijackthis to run either.Any ideas as to what I could try ne... OK so the cheap DLink DI-524 I bought gives me BSOD's.

Does anybody have any suggestions for a cheap wireless router that works with x64. It will be hardwired to the Vista x64 machine and I'll use my XP laptop and PSP for the wireless link.

Thanks...

Hey guys,

I've been trying to help my friend get her computer issues worked out for a while now. She's quite a few states away from me, so I can't be there physically to look at the hardware, and test stuff to get a verdict. The problems have been this:

During gaming, MMORPGS specifically; Neverwinter Nights, City of Heroes, World of Warcraft, there has been something that has caused either the application itself to close/generate a crash error, or the computer gets a BSOD + error message and automatically restarts.

First I tried getting her drivers updated. DirectX, video card, etc in hopes that it wasn't a hardware issue. Turns out none of that helped. For a little bit I had the same problem, and it ended up being overheating. Caused my computer to restart, but errors weren't generated. Nothing in BIOS suggested overclocking; so I'm assuming that isn't the issue. Next thing I thought could be the problem was bad RAM. RAM was interchanged (two different 512MB sticks), both high quality pieces, no difference shown. So, now it's down to what? The motherboard or the harddrive? I wouldn't expect the CPU or video card to be the problem with these sorts of errors. Power supply is also more than adequate for the PC, so that's not it either. Through a little exploring, I found out about "Eventvwr.msc" and had her run that and take a look at the errors. The system errors were all

A:Computer issues.. Restarting/crashes during gaming, harddrive issue?

You could try a chkdsk /f to be run at the next boot. Find this option in Disk Management.
There is also a program called HDD Regenerator, which does just that, regenerate the HD without destroying anything on it. www.dposoft.net
Works like a charm.
Do not underestimate the importance of a GOOD powersupply. Some 500w PSUs crap out at relatively small loads, other 350w PSUs happily drive a AMD64, latest ATIcard and 10 drives etc. without batting an eyelid.

Hi all,

My laptop (specs on my signature) is having bizarre behaviors, first thing i'm noticing is that is not connecting to my wifi... it does it everynow and then. I usually solve it by connecting it via ethernet to my router, use explorer to enter the router, resetting the wifi, and after that it works... but again, it's just a move by like.

Now i tried to do the same but internet explorer doesn't start, i runned a fix that i found online and i got the debug messages attached.... anyone can suggest where shall i try troubleshooting?

(the wireless card is fine, the driver is not the issue)

I was having computer problems over a week ago. I turned the computer on and immediately noticed that many of the permanent icons on my bottom toolbar were gone. It also took sometimes 5 minutes to get to a webpage.

I have McAfee so did an update and full scan and it found nothing. I always use Ad-Aware and Spybot. Someone suggested Avast and it found nothing. A week later I was still having problems. Updated McAfee and went through two full scans and it found nothing. Someone suggested a program called AVG. I know I'm not suppose to run two different anti-virus programs at the same time, but I knew I had SOMEthing and was reluctant to disengage McAfee to run this AVG thing I never heard of.

As soon as I started the AVG program, I started getting pop-up notices from McAfee saying it found files infected with the Downloader-BEW trojan. AVG kept running, and McAfee kept finding them, alerting me, and deleting them. In McAfee's log files, the 'detector' listed for all these files was "AVG Anti Virus".

I went to McAfee to find out more about this trojan. It says it comes with a file called abc123.pid I searched my computer and it was still there. I went to their online helpdesk and was given instructions via email on how to boot to dos and run a full scan that way. When it was done, I searched for that abc file and it was still there, resting comfortably in my TEMP directory.

I went to their online help forums this time and was given a link to SuperAn... Read more

A:Had Download-bew - Mcafee Suggested Hijackthis

Hello Shelly,Someone suggested a program called AVG. I know I'm not suppose to run two different anti-virus programs at the same time I (as well as MicroSoft, McAfee and Symantec) recommend that you DO NOT have more than one anti virus product installed and running on your computer at a time. The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other anti virus products to cause "false alarms". It can also lead to a clash as both products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection. In general terms, the two programs may conflict and cause:1) False Alarms: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't.2) System Performance Problems: Your system may lock up due to both products attempting to access the same file at the same time. Therefore please go to add/remove in the control panel and remove one of these. Avast Antivirus or McAfee Antivirus Reboot your computer, and post a fresh Hijackthis log. Please do not attach any logs, as that makes them hard to read.
