Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7600 This copy of Windows is not genuine

Q: Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7600 This copy of Windows is not genuine

Hello,
Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7600 This copy of Windows is not genuine

I have a Lenovo desktop that I installed Windows 7 Ultimate on last fall. I obtained my legal copy of Windows 7 from Tiger Direct as a promotion that was giving away copies of Windows 7. I still have the envelope and installation cd, the installation cd looks just like another copy of Windows 7 I got from Microsoft. I have been installing updates since the installation last fall. The message appears in the lower right hand side of my desktop screen.

According to a thread that I read a couple weeks ago, I checked my Updates and found that I have two Windows Updates that do not have Publishers. The updates are kb958488 and update kb 971033.

Any ideas on how I can correct this?
Thanks,
Peter

A: Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7600 This copy of Windows is not genuine

You can call the toll-free number Microsoft provides when activating Windows online fails. You basically talk to a computer for about 4 minutes, but once it's done, your copy of Windows should be re-activated and as such be validated as genuine since you said you got it from Tiger Direct. Hope this helps.

I have used Super AntiSpyware,Malwarebytes,Norman,Dr Web,McAfee Stinger,Avast,Spywareblaster,RogueKiller,Ms Security Essentials
Norton,and combo-fix

Everything comes back clean except Rogue Killer which said my host file was infected which it fixed. Rogue also came back with a bunch of fake win 7 files. I have had to stop every service having to do with
remote control and virtual servers/drivers/usb ports. SFC file is not working. Originally I would have to run an SFC scan everytime I boot
because something keeps replacing with fake software. At the end of every session I am left with a stamp in the lower right screen claiming windows 7 build 7600 not a genuine copy and sometimes it pops up a window that says let's take care of that now...I never click the next button. I cannot use windows update because as soon as I turn it and associated services back on it's like a floodgate was opened saying come in. It's not obvious until I try to access files and I get access denied.
When first discovered I could see 2 active users in task manager but they fixed it now so it consistently says 1.
There are services I cannot turn off and there are services which completely disappear from the services panel like
terminal services. They kept changing my home network status to public until I turned off HomeGroup services.
By the way...I am hardwired. Haven't been able to use wireless since late 2010 because I noticed my networ... Read more

Tell you to report it. I myself would really would intrested in finding out way someone would be messing with my computer.

Hi folks,

I've been searching for days trying to figure out what happened to cause me to get this message. I had an RC version that I'd been playing with, then in December 2009 downloaded and installed (or thought I did) RTM 7600.16385 ISO and bought a key from a retailer on Ebay. Everything activated fine and I've been using it without incident until last Saturday. So........I'm wondering if I got taken like some of the others that have posted here.

Yesterday I tried doing a repair and reactivate but got a message that my key had been blocked. I'm trying to figure out what to do next.

Anyway, here's the report. If anyone has an idea, it would be appreciated!

When and from where did you get the message the key had been blocked ?

If you report to MS that you were genuinely duped - you may need to give details where you bought it from - they sometimes give you a new one.

Hi,
Newbie here. I managed to read a few threads and apply the excellent directions in an attempt to solve the "Windows is not genuine" issue on a Toshiba Satellite C660 laptop computer.

I have successfully used SLMGR to instal the product key which was confirmed by Windows Script Host dialogue box.

I still have the dreaded "Windows ..not genuine" message in the lower right corner of the display.

I have run the Diagnostic tool and pasted the results below. I hope i have complied with posting requirements.
Thanks

You've had a Trusted Store Tamper - often the result of malware (or conflicting AV's)

What Anti-Virus programs have ever been installed?

Please download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free version) from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ - UNtick 'Enable free trial of MBAM PRO' at the end of the installation - and update it, then run a full scan in your main account, and Quick scans in any other user accounts.

Delete everything it finds

Hello, there. Another sad PC user with this issue. I'm 100% positive mine is. I built my own computer, used the 7 Beta version until I bought my own Ultimate version. Have been running that since it first came out and earlier this week, this error popped up. Ran a bunch of scans with no fixes. I also tried a system restore, but it wouldn't let me.

I've looked at this and other forums; however, I'm not very good with security issues. Here's the MGAD. Thanks!

The Key in use is an MSDN Key from a not-for-resale MSDN account.
Unless you are an MSDN subscriber, you are not entitled to use the Key – and whoever sold it to you was not entitled to do so.
You need to claim an immediate refund from the vendor - do NOT accept the offer of a new key (all they are trying to do is to get past the 45-day claims window or avoid you sending the evidence of their crimes to the authorities)

I suggest talking to Microsoft about this, then if they can't solve it, contact the computer manufacturer.
This "windows is not genuine" notification - does it affect you? Like, does it interrupt movies/games, etc etc, or does it just tell you and you can close it or something?

I checked my email today and opened an email from someone I know but it was a bad email. When I went to shut down I noticed my desktop background looked different and on the bottom right it says Windows 7 Build 7600 THis copy of Windows is not genuine. SO, now I am thinking that email gave me a virus but I am not sure. I have not done anything. I also received a yellow triangle message that said "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting." I don't know if that is the virus trying to get my information or what to do. I am running Malwarebytes now. I do not have anti-virus software installed.

Good day everyone!

I did a dual boot installation with my DELL Studio XPS 1640 (with W7 as the original OS) using this tutorial. Everything went fine but when I boot to W7, a message on the lower right screen appears that says "Windows 7 Build 7600 This copy of Windows is not genuine". So I was thinking the dual boot could be the reason of the error. I decided to undo the dual boot. I did this this tutorial first: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...list-boot.html, then I deleted the partition where the Vista was, then I merged the extended partition with the primary partition, then I was done. I restarted the computer and then the message still appears that W7 is not genuine. I noticed also everytime I start the computer, black screen with words (like DOS) appears before W7 logo appears.

Help me with this problem please.

A:Windows 7 Build 7600 This copy of Windows is not genuine

Hello Kimoy, and "Welcome to the Seven Forums.". . .

First let me ask you where you got your copy of Windows 7. It you bought it on EBay or downloaded it from a torrent site there is a very good chance that it is pirated copy, thus it will always come up as not genuine. Sometimes buying a copy of an OS on line from other then one of the major software vendors or sites like Amazon will bring you a bad copy, and again it could be a pirated copy.

Lets us know so that we can help you further if possible.

Hi

I reccently bought Windows 7 two months ago and I just got this notice that my Windows 7 maybe counterfeit. But I do have a legit Windows 7 disk from Dell themselves.

I tried re-entering my product key, I entered the product key on my computer tower and it said it's invalid. This happened during the night time. I really want to fix this ASAP.

Anyways that I could fix it?

I'm aware that alot of folks are having this problem. My specific situation is this: I bought a demo model Toshiba laptop from Radio Shack that came with Windows 7 on it but the Microsoft sticker on the bottom of the computer, the one with the key....., well, it says Windows Vista and all the papers that came with the computer say it has windows vista!
So, what happened was that when it turned out that Vista sucked, they just stuck Windows 7 on this thing as a quick fix and started selling it like that?,,,
Is that what happened?

Looks like it to me, but I'm all but computer illiterate but street wise enough to figure out that much, I think..

So, what should I do?
I saw it suggested somewhere in some forum that I should take the computer back and either ask for a 100% refund or a fresh copy of Windows 7

Anyone got any ideas?

Was I scammed?
Were alot of people scammed?

Hi,
Bought a second hand PC with windows 7 installed, spent a week setting up all my programs and settings and then suddenly get the 'Not genuine message' bottom right of screen. I loathe the thought of having to go through the whole set up again of all my programs. I have 2 hard drives, can I swop them around d to c, and then install a GENUINE copy of Windows 7 on C and will my programs on D still work? Does that make sense?

Hello,

Any advice on this issue would be helpful.

After 3 hours of use, this appears on my screen:

Windows 7
Build 7600
This copy of Windows is not genuine

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OEM purchased new from NEWEGG in August 2010, and installed mid-August on my own (new build) machine.

I have had issues with BSOD errors because of connected hardware and think I resolved them just recently....which is when this message started appearing.

My system seems stable at this point so I'm afraid to mess with it, although I would like to resolve this issue if possible.

I can deal with the watermark staring at me, but will something bad happen at some point if left unresolved?

Thanks in advance,

John

P.S. Not sure I have posted this thread in the correct Topic, please let me know if it should be elsewhere.

A:Windows 7 Build 7600...not genuine MINE IS, HOWEVER

This will happen to some unlucky people as the activation system is not perfect.

Often a re-boot is all that is required to correct this but if not try re activating on line with the same key if there is some issue due to your hardware problems take the option to talk to a representative on the free-phone number provided and I'm sure that Microsoft will sort everything out for you

Hi.
Almost a year ago I purchased a Toshiba laptop that had Windows 7 preloaded on it. For the past two weeks I have been receiving error messages that say my copy of Windows is not genuine. It crashes frequently and when I tried to do a system restore, the only restore point is the previous day. I am not very savvy when it comes to fixing these problems, but I did search the forums for advice and tried to run the Diagnostic Tool and here are my results. I really need to get this problem fixed as I do my homework on the computer and this is slowing me down. Also the computer has been very slow lately. Even when I run Microsoft Essentials to clear up any problems, it does not find any. Please help.

Hi there

Hoping someone can help me resolve this issue. I've recently bought a pc second-hand for me son (dat minecraft). It came with the genuine windows 7 software, both the 32 and 64 bit cds. The bloke I bought it off said he'd done a clean reinstall before I bought it. When I got it home and booted it up, i get a black screen with the build 7600 error in the bottom right corner. I've re-entered the cd key but that didn't work, I've also rang the automated line at microsoft but that didn't sort the issue. Can anyone give me an idea as to what to do next? Is this a counterfeit copy , even though I have the discs? Also, the sticker on the side of the tower says it was designed for vista, don't know if that make any difference or not.

Thanks in advance

I bought an Advent laptop form Currys (a mjor high street retailer) in March. Brand new, pre-loaded with Windows 7. All activated and working fine for 8 months until yesterday when, as I was just using it as normal, desktop goes black and it tells me my copy of Windows is not genuine and asks me re-enter activation code. Done that but it doesn't work. Tried restoring system to a point before it happened but that didn't work.

Tried starting 'slui.exe 4 ' to go to phone activation but it just takes me to online validation. I can't find this pone list/ dialouge box thing I've read about in all the answers to this problem.

Tried to find and delete KB971033 Windows update but can't find it.

I also cannot fidn the most absic answer - why is this happening? Whta is going on? My copy is genuine - bought from the largest national computer retailer in the UK. Why is it suddenly telling, after 8 months, that it is not genuine, when it is?

Please, please, please help!

A:Hibernate Windows 7 Build 7600 64-Bit Ultimate

I had a problem with hibernation restarting my computer, and finally figured out that there is a problem with your BCD (Boot Configuration Data Store) in the boot folder (ex: C:\boot\bcd). Most likely its a problem with the "Resume from Hibernate" section of the BCD which points your computer in the direction of the operating system to resume from and to. You can edit/view your BCD by opening up command prompt and using the command bcdedit /? for a list of options. Anyway I tried everything to fix the hibernation problem, including using EasyBcd, but the only thing that worked was installing another copy of windows on a different partition, this rewrites the BCD. Then you can uninstall that extra Operating System. Now the BCD should be corrected. Hope this helps, I couldn't find any info on this subject for months so I just played around with the BCD, and installing another OS

I have a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium N, which I downloaded from the Microsoft MSDN page. I use it for testing in VMware. Well, the networking was screwed up, so I went into VMware settings and changed it from NAT to Bridged. I then ran Windows update. When it was done updating I got a message in the lower right that says "Windows 7 Build 7600 This copy of windows is not genuine". So, I did some googling, and was told to run this MGADiag tool to verify if it is indeed genuine or not. It also comes back and says it's invalid:

You need to provide basic information about the system manufacturer and model...what your problems are...when they began...any onscreen error messages, etc...if you really want someone to be able to guess at what might be wrong with your system.

"This copy of Windows 7 is not genuine" messages...occur for any number of reasons, none of them have anything to do with malware.

Simply put...reactivate Win 7, either online or via telephone.

Hello, I'm working on helping my cousin out with his laptop that has Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. He got the laptop from a friend and wanted to do a clean install of Windows so he used my copy of Windows 7. He had the same OS before wiping the hard drive and installing a new copy. It's been fine for about a month after installing it. Now it's saying "Build 7601 This copy of windows is not genuine" on the bottom right corner on the screen with a black background. A:Windows 7 Home Premium Build 7601 This copy of windows is not genuine

He needs to change the Product Key to the one on HIS COA sticker on the machine's case.
The Key currently in use is System Builder one, rather than an OEM_COA one - which means that it's probably yours.

You then need to uninstall and reinstall the WAT update -

Close all open windows.
Open an Elevated Command Prompt window, and type the following command

wusa /uninstall /kb:971033

and hit the Enter key
Accept the warnings/confirmations, and wait for it to complete

copy and paste the output (if any) from the command prompt window to a reply here,
Reboot

reinstall the update from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971033
Reboot

run another MGADiag report, and post it.

I have a Dell Latitude E5500 running Windows 7 Ultimate that warns it is not genuine.

I am the new IT person at my company. This laptop was issued to a salesperson before I came here. The salesperson is no longer with us and returned the laptop. Laptop was not on the domain and I did not know the user's password so I used a Password Reset utility (I have sucessfully used several times with Win XP.) To activate and reset the Administrator password. (This modifies registry entries)

Upon logging in I see the laptop is reporting as software not genuine. Oddly
enough I was able to install SP1.

I went through the recreating Licensing Store with no change. The COA sticker is not on the laptop but I ran Magic JellyBean keyfinder and reentered the key with equally dissappointing results.

My boss thinks this laptop was "rebuilt" by a company they have used in the past for support. This company is very reputable and I find it unlikely they would use counterfeit software.

I have read several threads but I did not see anything that matches mine. I apologize in advance if the answer was under my nose and I did not see it.

Now that you have my life story my diagnostic printout below:

A:Windows not genuine - 7 Ultimate - Build 7601

WAT has discovered a hacker's Activation Exploit, attempting to spoof Windows Activation and validation.
The machine was built a year before Windows 7 was launched - but the Exploit is attempting to simulate a valid Win7 SLIC table in the BIOS.

For what version and edition of Windows is the computer licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case??
It's almost certainly Vista of some kind - and unless you have a valid Upgrade license for this machine, then that's the only OS that should be installed here.

Sorry about posting my request elsewhere.

Here's my dilemma: I had a desktop system where I virtually replaced all components except my Intel SSD (I only have Win 7 & "programs" installed on this drive). My old OS was Win 7, 32 bit. Since I got a nice 64 bit motherboard/CPU, I purchased Win 7, 64 bit. When I got my new system started, I had all kinds of problems (so many, I can't remember all the details). When I finally got the 64 bit version of Windows 7 to install, it never did ask me to enter the Product Key!?!? It registered/kept the product key from the 32 bit version! After several weeks of trouble-free operation, I now have the "black desktop" with "Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of Windows is not genuine." Every-time I restart windows, it want me to enter a new product key and "I know" that I'm entering the correct characters.

The following quoted info seemed like a good place to start so I followed this information:

A:Issue: Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of Windows is not Genuine

You say that you purchased Windows 7 - where from?
The installed License Type is COA_SLP, which is not available to the general public, and can only be sold pre-installed by a major manufacturer. If you did indeed purchase this retail, then it's a counterfeit.

Does the Product Key in the report agree with the one from your purchase?
If not, use the option to change the product Key to the proper one.

A:Windows 7 Build 7601 This Copy of Windows is not genuine appeared?!

The SLIC table appears to have gone missing - possibly because of a BIOS update?
You need to change the Product Key to the one on your COA sticker (probably inside the Battery compartment of your machine), and activate that.

Hi,

I have owned my laptop for 1 and a half years now and all of a sudden I'm getting this error. I brought the laptop in to the shop 2 weeks ago after it started smoking from the power input plug area and it works fine up until today's error.

The scenario was kind of weird. My battery was plugged in and the blue light on the battery was on but my laptop was indicating that it wasn't plugged in. I shut down, and tried the plug again. The battery light lit up on the front of the laptop, so I powered back on. Upon loading up, I get the Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine error. Not sure if these events are related. I updated all my windows updates and restarted. Then I am now getting a prompt for an invalid activation key.

I ran a windows activation validation, and it says "Windows has not yet been activated with a genuine product key. Not to worry, we can help with that"

And then lists a bunch of prices for windows 7...

Laptop:
Asus K53S

I'm not very good with computers. I had a sticker on my laptop that was peeling off so I removed it and apparently my activation key along with it, not realizing I might need it again... I have the box it came in but I don't see an activation key on that.

Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hi,

My PC is almost 4 years old. It was bought from EBuyer in the UK and had Windows 7 preinstalled with the C OA sticker on the side of the PCU box. Yet for some reason it has now suddenly started to give me the above message in the bottom right corner of the desktop. As yet the screen has not gone black as seems to happen with some other instances of similar problems. However Windows Update is not working properly stating that Windows could not search for new updates and stating error code C0000022 had been found.

The MGADiag.exe report is as follows:

Here is another unit - near two years old - I activated it back then - that joins the non-genuine list.

Hoping someone here can assist.

NB: I have run CHKDSK /R and SFC /SCANNOW with nothing showing up that this old coot can see.

NBB: This is a dual boot system (Win8.1-all brought and paid for. Win7 -original from shop installed OS - activated as soon as I booted up at home for the first time nearly two years ago. And PCLos - not functional at present.) Windows8.1 is giving this system hell right now and until a couple of days ago I had been doing my production work with Win7. [Samsung DP700A3B-Touch Screen] I thought Win8.1 had sorted when Samsung produced drivers for Windows8 - ran fine for a couple of weeks - but at present playing up again. I only mention this in case this relates to my Windows7 problem.

So - what now? I do believe I updated Windows7 to a Pro & Media Pro Version because this is where Windows8 got to when I opted for the clean install update at the time. Hence dual boot using the Windows8 boot loader.

I'm within Windows7 now with it showing the non-genuine message - so I must be running out of time???

2 years or more after owning my XPS L502X I received an error saying that I needed to activate my version of windows. Windows 7 Home Premium came installed on my computer and I haven't had any activation issues with it until now. I had done a system restore yesterday to late December 2013 since about half of the websites I frequent wouldn't load. I had tried restarting my router/modem and messing with connections to no avail. It fixed my web issues and I have used the computer almost constantly in the day since without a problem. The error occurred without a restart or anything(though I do get a windows error on restart now). I was mid-episode of a show that I had previously watched using the same software I had previously used(VLC) to watch it. The only changes I have done since the restore were to add torrentprivacy.com's bit torrent anonymizer and download a few torrents. The torrents were positively commented and passed avast virus scan.

Dear Sir/Madame,
I have been reading through the posts and I believe some of the responses to this problem may be able to assist me with my issue. I was having blue screen problems (actually they are still happening) with my computer that I have owned for a couple 2-3 years now. I did not know what was causing this problem as it initially began very infrequently. The computer would flash a blue screen and then say it is dumping data, etc. -- eventually the computer would restart with no problem. I may have seen this 3- 4 times about a year ago but about 2 months ago it began happening all the time. So I decided to do a complete factory reset and that appeared to fix the problem or so I thought. Well the computer crashed again and then increased like before to where it happened every time a webpage hung up. I then contacted a company to service my computer online -- for now I will not mention the company but they use teamviewer to diagnose and repair computers. They worked on my computer for several hours and contacted me to tell me it was fixed -- that I had some corrupted drivers from a virus. They assured me it was fixed but within a couple of hours while I was running a Webroot scan the computer crashed and I could see the messages scrolling down the screen saying replacing security ID with a particular what I believed to be register address. It did this overnight as there was no response to ctrl alt del and when it stopped there was nothing -- I powered it off a... Read more

Hi everyone..

I have had my TOSHIBA Satellite L40-139 for over a year. It was bought from PC World and came with a pre-installed version of Windows Vista Home Premium. I do not have any of the disks that came with the laptop but the Windows installed is genuine.

I went to install Vista Service Pack 2 having downloaded it. I restarted my laptop only to find my desktop wallpaper had gone and been replaced with a black background and the following in the bottom-right corner of the desktop:

Windows Vista (TM)
Build 6002
This copy of Windows is not genuine

This was followed by a pop-up window with two options, 'Activate Now' or 'Activate Later', followed by an error pop-up that says Windows must be re-installed as an "Unauthorised change has been made...please insert CD or DVD". If I press 'Activate Now' it just goes to another pop-up that says I can contact TOSHIBA. If I click the link it just goes to a standard 'Help' screen!

I don't know what to do..I have the COA product key sticker intact and have tried entering it but it just comes back with various errors. It's as if as soon as I installed service pack 2 I've had problems. Again I do not have Vista or a toshiba recovery disk (I don't even know if it came with one). I have tried restoring Windows but it just returns with the same screens!

HELP!!

PS. Is the Toshiba support line a free number? Does anyone know a number that is free to call from mobiles? (I do not have a landline).

A:"Build 6002: This copy of Windows is not genuine"

Your notebook model was not delivered with recovery disc but with recovery image saved on HDD. In user?s manuals document is clearly described that you must crate recovery DVDs alone using preinstalled ?Toshiba recovery disc creator? tool.

Preinstalled OS version (Toshiba recovery image ? factory settings) is definitely genuine and I realy don?t understand how it can happen. I mean thousands of people make the same update and there are no other claims about similar issues.

Anyway, if you didn?t create recovery disc what you can try now is to reinstall OS using HDD recovery procedure. How to do this you can read in Toshiba FAQ document http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm
This will delete whole HDD, excerpt second partition so if you have some important data make data back-up.

If this will not help let me know.

Hey guys,
My computer was store bought with a pre-installed windows 7, after a malfunction with a system restore i had to use a windows 7 proffessional edition to get the computer back online, however... As i only used the disk to repair previous files, it told me i need an activation key.

I didnt use the activation key off the disk as it was a friends and only used it to repair the files, i still havea folder on the computer called "Windows.old" is there someway i can take that windows back onto the computer or use the preinstalled and activated windows key from the home version that it came with?

A:Windows is not a genuine copy (Build 7601)

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Error started popping up on my fiance's laptop the past couple of days. We had bought this laptop... 3? 4? years ago from a local Fry's. I replaced the HD with a SSD and did a clean install with a windows ISO off Digital River website using the product key on the sticker on bottom of laptop. This was about a month ago, then all of a sudden, product key error.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi, Welcome to Seven forums.

Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

Recreate the Licensing Store
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt
Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

net stop sppsvc
(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
REN tokens.dat tokens.bar
net start sppsvc
slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.
You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

I bought a newly built desktop PC from a private seller on eBay about three months ago and everything has been running fine but today I got a full screen message, before the desktop appeared, saying Windows 7 is not genuine. The error code at the bottom-left of this is 0xC004F032.

When I go past that I get a popup from MSE saying Windows 7 is not genuine, and the desktop has a message at the bottom-right saying "Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of windows in not genuine".

Now I realise, since this was from a private seller, it could well be this message is correct. Maybe my own fault for buying a PC with software from eBay! But I want to be sure of things before I go ahead and buy a new copy of Windows 7.

I've tried activating online, but am again told it's not a genuine copy. Is there any way you guys can tell if this is right or not from the attached diagnostic report?

Also, why would I only get this message now, after three months? Nothing has changed with the PC - no new motherboard or new anything as far as hardware since purchase.

Thanks very much for any help you can offer.

You have an Acer OEM_SLP Product Key installed on a Retail motherboard manufacturered 6 months before Windows 7 was released, with an apparent SLIC rable from Gigabyte.

Your installation is counterfeit.

You will need to reformat and reinstall using genuine media and Key.

That is what it says in the lower-right corner of my desktop monitor screen. The PC is a couple years old. I don't think I have installed anything new lately besides Windows Updates and Flash Player updates. I tried uninstalling Avast and reinstalling after seeing that message. I'm not very knowledgeable about computers. I tried the online validation thing it gave me an option to try. It ran and then said it could not validate my copy of Windows.

Hi,

I would suggest you to try and use the CD Key you might have received with the system and see if it works. If that fails though, you could try calling your system?s manufacturer and check if they could provide you a set of recovery discs.

Hello,

Problem with my daughter's Toshiba L750D laptop, about 9 months old,
purchased from major UK retailer.

Machine was not charging up properly, probably due to loose power plug,
and kept shutting down (or crashing). When subsequently booting up was required to run
startup repair a couple of times, which also prompted to restore to previous
checkpoint a couple of times. When machine eventually boots up reliably
it now gives "Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of windows is not genuine"
problem.

Unfortunately the C of A sticker is a bit worn, and I can't read some
of the digits despite using a magnifying glass.

Any help would be appreciated.

Good afternoon

Starting two days ago I started having having this message in the corner of my desktop after (seemingly) my antivirus tried to update and failed (Comodo AV). However, the desktop background doesn't go black when this happened and the error on the corner disappeared after a reboot only to reappear after trying to update Windows (which failed after telling me my copy of windows wasn't genuine).

Re-installed my anti-virus and rebooted, full system scan for virus and malware (Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware) and nothing showed up but the message reappeared in the corner after another failed Windows update. I probably should mention that this is the Windows copy that came with my laptop.

So I joined the forums to try and fix this, download the MGADiag Tool and it says it can't create output files after doing the diagnosis (hr = 0x800706b5), sooooo I'm at a bit of a loss

Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks for your time in advance.

Hi,

The MGADIAG error message can be ignored - simple run it again, click copy (ignore any errors), then use CTRL+V to paste the MGADIAG output here in your next reply.

Hello,

I've had this O/S installed and running without issue since Feb 2010. Never had it tell me that my copy of Windows was not genuine.

I recently upgraded the ram from 8GB to 16GB. That's the only real change I have made recently.

Following is the output of the MGADiag report:

You have a Retail motherboards
The Key in use is from a Dell Recovery disk.
Windows has discovered an Activation Exploit to be present to force the system acceptance of the false SLIC table.

You will need to purchase a legitimate retail license for your machine, and clean install - Activation Exploits are major security holes.

I'm going to post this here first to see if I can find a permenant fix here before I go on to either hardware support or Malware support.

When I turned my computer on yesterday, I was greeted with a message in the bottom right corner saying "Windows 7 build 7601 This copy of windows is not genuine." and was then sent popups to get the activation key off of me. Now, my Windows 7 Ultimate 64x is a legitimate copy (as far as I can tell) that I've been using since early 2014 (when I activated it). Along with this, I have had rather high CPU usage (Using a 6 core AMD gaming processor) for doing very little and some BSODs (I need to note the error if and when i next have them). The system, particularly the start up, has been feeling rather sluggish since my first boot up yesterday. FPS in World of tanks has been reduced to about 15 FPS.

What I've done so far:

Chkdsk /r (did one pass, which took something like 8 hours and seems to have fixed a good chunk of the problem, must have scheduled a second as it said the volume was clean when i booted the second time).
Run various anti virals (Antimalware bytes at the advice of a friend, Kapersky's online scanner and a scan with my own Webroot).
Installed the latest version of Java (did some google-fu).
Downloaded Window's own verification tool and ran it (came back negative).
Currently checking the health of the hard drive (It doesn't seem to be making the noises that dying hard drives tend to make, so that SHOULD come... Read more

Hello,

Current version - Windows 7 SP1

I read various forum responses on this subject and tried them.  I was able to get the problem go away 4 times (45 days each between each time) by using SLMGR -REARM or SLMGR /REARM and the SkipRearm count change from 0 to 1.  This time when the problem appeared, I tried them all.  Nothing works.  I bought the Lenovo ThinkCenter M Series desktop from CDW 3 years ago (well, 3 years and 5 months).  Lenovo wanted $$$ to fix the problem and CDW tells me that the Windows 7 license was only for 3 Years and is expired and I need to buy a new license for Windows 7 or an uplevel OS.  Well, I never had any OEM license run out on me after 3 years since I usually use my computers for 5 years minimum.   Is there any fix to this problem?  Or, am I in the fix to spend money and buy a new license?

I cannot even get the Windows 10 Free upgrade.  Even when the problem did not exhibit (through the fix applied), I could not get Windows 10.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Regards,
Mark.

A:Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine

For clarification purposes...Microsoft issues licenses...they issue volume licenses to entities like Lenovo, Dell, etc...which are then transferred to the systems sold to the public.

IMO...contacting anyone other than Microsoft about product activation/license issues...is a waste of time.

If you have a valid license, Microsoft is the agency to contact.

No license to operate Windows...has an expiration date of any sort, AFAIK.  My old Win 95/98 licenses to install/use those versions...are just as valid today as they were when issued.  Perhaps CDW was referring to their stated period for dealing with warranty/system issues on products sold to consumers (just a guess) when they mentioned a 3-year period.

Hello there. I've encountered a problem and would appreciate greatly any help that you have to offer. In the lower right corner of the screen, it says:
"Windows 7

On startup, I get a message saying I may be victim of software counterfeit. I'm not sure what this entails, but I see people with the same problem posting the log of the MGADiag tool, so I'm going to go ahead and do the same.

For some reason, the SLIC table in the BIOS that should be present to allow self-activation of the Windows installation is missing - or at least Windows can't see it.

You need to change the Key to the one on your COA sticker, using the Change Product Key link you find at the bottom of the System properties page.
Once complete, you may need to activate by phone.

I entered the product key on the side of the PC on the sticker, I got error code 0x8004fe33, Description: Unable to find a detailed error description. The Facility code is: ITF (0x04), facility error: 0xFE33 (65075L)

I downloaded MGADiag.exe like instructed from other posts, though when I hit run I get the attached photo.

I sent my laptop off for a repair by the TechGuys @ PC World ages ago but now I keep the message that my Windows is counterfeit.
The TechGuys insist that they have not installed corrupt software and refuse to do anything more about it

I had an issue with my laptop where it wouldn't boot; I tried reinstalling the operating system and completely messed up the machine (don't ask me how, because I have no idea what went wrong) and so sent it to a shop to be fixed. I was told when I picked it up that it had been rebuilt and now have the PC telling me that the copy of windows I have is not genuine. The version of windows I have came with the PC as far as I know - I sent the PC away with my windows disks when it was being fixed. I have tried to find a way to activate it using the product key on the bottom of my PC, but there is no option to do this in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System. When I run slui.exe, I get this message:

0x80070422 - the service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
I have contacted the shop that rebuilt it for me, but they have not yet responded. I am not sure what has caused the error as it has only started doing this today and I have had it back for almost 2 weeks now. I don't know if it is relevant, automatic updates were turned off and wouldn't initially let me turn them back on (they are now on), also, the restore wizard will not run and have found no solution to this. My PC was overheating when playing games (got a few BSODs), and I hope that underclocking the GPU to fix this or the original BSOD was not the cause of these problems.

In short I have no idea what is wrong here.

Built my custom computer a year and a half ago. Put Win7 SP1 HP x64 on it, half a year ago, upgraded from that to Win7 SP1 UT x64, yesterday I got the message "This copy of windows is not genuine" which it is. Can anyone help me out?

A:Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of windows not genuine.

C:\Windows\system32\slmgr.vbs(1333, 5) (null): The service has not been started.
That's an error I've never seen before in 20,000 posts.
I suspect that it may relate to the WMI service.....

Please run the following commands in and Elevated Command Prompt, and post the results.

NET START WINMGMT
SC QC WINMGMT
NET START SPPSVC
SC QC SPPSVC
NET START SPLDR
SC QC SPLDR

Here are some instructions to make life easier
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Hello and welcome nautique is this a build or bought machine?

Whatever it is it should have a sticker with the edition code on it.

If it hasn't I would be rather suspicious.

If you want to find what is on the machine run this Speccy - Download < from piriform it will give al the viatl stats on the machine and software etc

See my pic to see what it will show you when you click on operating system its; also a good app to have on board for times of queries, and it is free.

So my I bought my PC from a Dell store so I KNOW that it's not a pirated windows. It's still showing me this message. I can still update regularly and it doesn't block me anything. It didn't even notify me that it's not genuine.
I tried to activate but the notification on the picture 2 keeps showing up. Could anyone help? I tried anything that there was on the internet.

Where to start? Well, yesterday (17/02/16), when I turned my computer on, it gave me the Windows 7 build 7601 This copy of windows is not genuine message in the lower right corner of my screen and tried to get me to enter a key via popup. I have been using this PC with this OS since early 2014 (when I installed it), so this was rather suprising. This also came with a spiking CPU (could go from 0% to 45% while doing very little) or a CPU that would be under generaly high load for what it's doing. RAM usage also seemed rather high. I also got some BSODs (didn't note them down, but if I will if I get them again). It also seems to have set my default homepage in firefox to "chrome://ubufox/locale/ubufox.properties", but that could be down to it being synced with my Ubuntu laptop.

Edit: Got one of the BSODs: ***STOP:0x00000101 (0x0000000000000021,0x0000000000000000,0xFFFFF88003165180,0x0000000000000002)

What I've tried:

Chkdsk /r (did one pass, which took something like 8 hours and seems to have fixed a good chunk of the problem, must have scheduled a second as it said the volume was clean when i booted the second time, also seems to have improved system stability and performance somewhat).
Run various anti virals (Antimalware bytes [11 malware removed supposedly] at the advice of a friend, Kapersky's online scanner [3 Malware removed supposedly] and a scan with my own Webroot [nothing found, but it may have been the short scan]. Note: Only Webroot is installe... Read more

A:Windows 7 build 7601 This copy of windows is not genuine.

well, it would seem that I had to talk to a Microsoft employee over the phone to see about activating my (newly installed) windows on my other hard drive, instead of the automated phone function that I've used in the past, which would indicate that the Windows 7 build 7601 prompt is legitimate, not malware. Or I thought that until, a while after entering the code, the message came back in the lower right hand corner of the screen.  I've also discovered that my 1 TB hard drive, which is still under warranty, has bad sectors and failed a Seatools long generic test. I'll probably send the 1TB drive off to Novatech for a replacement come wednesday.

We have a desktop and a laptop. Both run Win 7 Home Premium 32-bit with SP1 update. They were both updated from Vista a long time ago using genuine retail MS DVDs. Until recently they have both run perfectly (much better than Vista!).

The desktop recently started to display the message: "Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine". I posted a question on the Microsoft Forum. Noel D Paton kindly replied with helpful suggestions, including doing a repair install. I downloaded 'X17-24208.iso', burned it to a DVD and attempted the install. After about 6 hours over night the install failed. 'Windows could not configure one or more system components. To install Windows restart the computer and then restart the installation'. It reverted to the old setup.

Not to be beaten, I then downloaded and ran 'MS Win 7 Upgrade Advisor' as it suggested. It found one incompatible program, and gave it a red cross symbol; I removed it. I also updated a driver as it suggested and I removed iTunes after first de-registering this PC. There were three programs mentioned as having no capability information; I could not find them. I then re-ran the installation from 2 pm to 7:30 pm. Everything was working well and looking hopeful until the last stage 'Transferring files, Settings and Programs'. To my astonishment (and annoyance!) it failed again!! The message again is: 'Windows could not configure one or more system components. To install Windows restart the computer and the... Read more

A pleasant day to all.

Im a newbie here, so i hope i get this right.
I am having trouble with my product key and i dont know what to do. There's a message in my desktop that says "Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine."
Ive seen a product id on my laptop and tried to put that to activate windows but it's invalid. Btw, i have installed SP1. Windows keeps on asking for activation. I kinda ignored the 30 days notice to activate it and now i think im in trouble. I dont have much knowledge about this stuff as it is not my line of work. I've searched the forum with similar problem as mine but it gets me confused so i made a new thread. Can someone help me sort out this problem? If its possible please give me step by step instruction on fixing this prob. I badly need one. Im so worried about this. Thank you so much.

While running on normal mode, I noticed this message on the bottom right of my screen. Then i ran malwarebytes anti malware and saw that there were several trojans and adwares in my system that norton 360 did not discover. However I deleted the malwares and rebooted the computer and the "not genuine" message disappeared but my computer still freezes and lags so much that I can't run anything smoothly. (A problem that has been going on for a week or two before the "windows build..." showed up)
This is a copy of the diagnostic report I ran, I'm really not sure what's the problem (if it's a virus or malware or just faulty hardware) but I do hope you could offer some help.

The error messages in the report arise from running it in Safe Mode, rather than anything else.

My preferred solution protocol for your problems would be to uninstall Norton, run the Norton Removal tool and then troubleshoot with MSE installed.

This message started appearing suddenly after using this computer for nearly 2 years. It was purchased 2nd hand with Windows 7 Ultimate already installed and did not come with any discs or paperwork. I'm not sure how to run a diagnostic to obtain the kind of reports that I have seen on the forums. Would appreciate any assistance. Thank you!

A:Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine

You have a major problem.
Your machine was manufactured in 2005 - but the Windows 7 Product Key in use is valid only on machines which shipped with Windows 7 installed.

At a guess, I would say that you just got around to installing Service Pack 1?
SP1 was designed to remove and block most of the known Activation Exploits of the day - thereby notifying the users of their counterfeit installs.

It seems that you purchased this machine 'used' with a counterfeit install of Windows 7.
For what version and edition of Windows is it licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case?

Hi All,
About nine months ago I received a used laptop with a small HD and Vista installed, both was not good for me so i brought a new HD and a copy of Windows 7. Although the copy of Windows was for a Dell system it had never been used or activated. All went well and all was good in the world with daily updates from Microsoft. Then yesterday I was hit with a message at the bottom of my screen saying my Windows is not genuine. I then looked at System page to find that the Windows Activation Status & Protection were both Not Available.

I then downloaded and ran MGA DIAG tool below is the report, hope this helps someone help me to fix this problem. ( p.s. I am a complete pc novice ). Thankyou.

Tony.

If you didn't activate the Win 7. That is your problem.

My company bought about 15 pieces of desktop pc from dell.
I created an Windows 7 image using Dell pre-installed Win7.
I have used this image to clone 14 pieces of the dektops and there was no issue.
However, the last one I encountered "Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine" when I powered on the machine. I don't even have any chance to login to windows to activate it by using its OEM Product Key. Please the screenshot as attached.
Please kindly advice any solutions to this issue.

A:Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine

Assuming you got machines with no OS how are you activating them, are you licensed to do so, it sounds like you have one copy of windows and are trying to run it on multiple machines
Post an MGAdiag report of one of them and we can take a look

A:This copy of windows is not genuine - windows 7, build 7601

Licensing Data-->
C:\Windows\system32\slmgr.vbs(1333, 5) (null): The data is invalid.

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report.

(Note: the Line 'CD %win......\SoftwareProtectionPlatform' is all on one line - it may be broken in the Forum listing)

I have had this computer for a few years and over the last week or so it started to get sluggish. Now I can't get it to do anything unless I am in safe mode and can't connect to the internet at all. I have experienced a black or sometimes blue screen and have the message on the desktop "windows 7 build 7601 this copy of windows is not genuine" so I need some help please

A:Windows 7 Build 7601 this copy of Windows is not genuine

This sound more to me as if the problem is malware, rather than a non-genuine one.

Boot to Safe Mode with Networking,
download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free version) from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ - UNtick 'Enable free trial of MBAM PRO' at the end of the installation - and update it, then run a full scan in your main account, and Quick scans in any other user accounts.

Delete everything it finds

ONLY THEN reboot to Normal Mode, and see what happens.

If you still get a non-genuine error,

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/234159-windows-genuine-activation-issue-posting-instructions.html
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/howtotell/Hardware.aspx

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

You have a Trusted Store Tamper - often caused by malware or (paradoxically) over-protective security software.

Try reactivating it with the 25 character product key printed on the COA sticker found underneath the laptop.
