Stop Windows Update from Reminding Me About IE10

Q: Stop Windows Update from Reminding Me About IE10

I have, as far as I can tell, a perfectly running W7 installation with Firefox 4 as my browser. I don't want to install IE 10. Windows Update keeps reminding me that there is an important update ready. It is IE10. Is there any way I can keep Update from reminding me that I don't want to have this unimportant to me update?

Thank you.

A: Stop Windows Update from Reminding Me About IE10

Hi jsquareg

I presume you mean IE 9. If your truly adamant about not using it, you can hide the update in windows update and it wont bother you again.Just right click on the IE9 update and select hide.

This will help Windows Update - Hide or Restore Hidden Updates

Hi there,

Windows update keeps sending me reminders for updates I want to disregard, particularly "Windows Malicious Software Tool". Is there any way to tell the system once I un-check that particular update that I don't want it and don't desire to be prompted to download it all the time?

A:Windows Update keeps reminding me of updates I don't want to install?

All you need do is go to Windows Updates and right-click the update in question then choose Hide.

If you later decide you want to install the update just click 'Restore hidden updates'.

I opened up and saw the windows update options which included:
- Cumulative security update for IE9 kb2809289 (27Mb) (ticked by default)
- IE10 (69.1Mb) (unticked by default)

Would be ok to untick the ie9 update and tick the ie10 - which would mean that windows update will uninstall ie9 and install ie10?

A:Optional windows update IE10 and IE9

I found out why IE10 update option was unticked by default. It happens to need a platform update installed first which can cause problems. I'll let IE9 be for the meantime.

First of all, I'm new here, so try to be patient as I stumble through the rules.
Normally I'm pretty good at fixing software issues, but this one has me stumped.

I have a machine running Win7 h/p which seems to have installed any other updates fine, but always chokes on IE10, throwing "Code 9C59 Windows Update encountered and unknown error."
(As a side note, I've *never* seen it encounter a *known* error.)

What I have done with no success:
Renamed the SoftwareDistribution folder.
Turned off Norton's 360.
Uninstalled IE9 and reinstalled (it said I had a newer version of IE9 installed *after* I had removed it and rebooted!)
Tried downloading and running the redistributable installer for IE10.

All failed. I have since downloaded and run SURT, run an sfc scan, and checked the Windows error log while I waited. There are loads of instances of this in the event viewer:

"Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070643: Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems."

I compressed a copy of the CBS folder and attached it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello all,
The problem I seem to be having has to do with Internet Explorer(specifically, "Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems") repetitively and "successfully" updating through Windows Update EVERY DAY. Each day when I start up my PC, Windows Update comes up notifying me that this same important update is ready to be downloaded and installed. I have done two different things: Downloaded and installed the update through Windows Update normally and also ignored it while regular use and allowed it to download and install prior to shutdown of the pc. However, for about 10 days straight now, whenever I start my pc back up, the SAME update comes up saying it needs to be installed.

Does anyone here have any clue as to what could be going on? If there is any additional information I could provide for one of you awesome men or women to help me out, I will do my best to comply.

Thanks in advance!

When I attempted to install IE10 from Windows Update, the update failed with Error 9C57.

There was also a prior failure (also this morning) to install an optional update, Platform Update for Windows 7 x64 edition (KB2670838).

Finally, while this may be entirely unrelated, I noticed earlier this week that the "Turn Window Features On and Off" function under Programs and Features of the Control Panel is missing quite a few items that I know used to be there. For example, there's no longer a Telnet or FTP option. The list is only about 6 or 7 items long. I mention this in case it's useful for troubleshooting.

I'm attaching, screen caps of the two failed Windows updates, and a screen cap of the Windows Feature showing the very few items in it.

Windows Updates (you know, the one recommended to run Automatically) installed IE11 which brakes many websites, which created quite frustrating situation and highlights why Windows 8 is a complete failure, as is 8.1.
The only way that IE11 can be uninstalled is via the Turn Windows Feature On or Off, as it does not appear in the Uninstall Programs list. When I did that iexplore.exe got deleted, cannot find in any method suggested in the many online post about people having same issue trying to downgrade from IE10 to 9, so essentially I have no IE now. Thank God for Google Chrome! Trying to install IE10 manually gives a "IE10 is already installed message", but of course it can?t be launched without iexplore.exe, and the only option I?m left with is to turn IE11 back On. Nice huh? I have read that IE is now part of the Windows 8 OS so I'm SOL.
Thanks to Microsoft I now have a $700 paper weight as some sites I absolutely need (Bank, School, job WebMail which is Outlook and that doesn't even work anymore) that require IE do not work on IE11.
Of course according to Dell downgrading out of this IE8 frustration is out of the question, so I'm thinking of wiping it clean and installing a server OS and be done with it.
So oh great Microsoft Developers, can you help me find a way to make YOUR LAPTOP (obviously not mine) work for me. Please note that all the methods of searching for Explorer, Internet Eplorer, iexplore.exe, and so forth in order to PIN IT to my desktop have ... Read more

I am having an issue that it looks like many other have run into trying to upgrade from IE8/9 to 10 or 11. Other Windows Updates go through fine but anytime I try to install IE 10 or 11 via Windows Update or from the offline installer it fails with the error 9C59.

A little backstory on this in case it helps.... We have a VDI environment so this is on our gold image. Months back we updated IE8 to IE9 but found that we were having compatibility issues with an internal web app and had to downgrade back to IE8 (via uninstalling the IE9 installed update). It appears that I can still re-install IE9 but anything beyond that fails with the info above.

I've tried many of the suggestions out there such as reinstalling the readiness tool, resetting windows update agent, etc but no luck so far. The interesting thing that I found is if i start fresh with this update again (so i start with IE8) , the "turn windows features on / off" shows IE 8 as an option to toggle on/off. However after I try the IE11 install and it fails, i still have IE 8 installed but the "windows features on/ off" window shows its almost like it ALMOST gets there and fails.

Either way, if theres any help someone could have for this I'd greatly appreciate it! i'm happy to try and scans / logs that might help

thank you

After your great help with my last problem i'm back with another (the price of success!)

Windows 7 ultimate - some updates are installing OK, some are being repeated after a successful installation & the IE10 update repeatedly fails with error code 9C59.

I've tried MS Fixit. I've done a repair install of Win7 ultimate, which improved things a little (before that, updates KB2667402 & KB982018 would continually fail). & windowsupdate.log are attached.

Here's some background which may be relevant:
I started with Win 7 pro, which turned out to be non-genuine (ebay!). Windows updates stopped working because it was non-genuine. Microsoft supplied a new copy of Win7 ultimate, which I installed via a custom installation. I didn't do a clean install because I used a 3rd party product call PCmover to include all applications & settings in the upgrade to Win7 ultimate. All has been OK with Win7 ultimate except the updates.

So yesterday automatic Windows update installed IE10, today I noticed that links in certain applications open in IE10 instead of my configured default browser, which every link from this or any other application used to open in before that update and the reboot that followed the update.
I checked the Default Programs section in the system control panel, expecting maybe Microsoft wanted to get themselves in any more trouble with the EU and changing the default to IE. This was not the case however, all the associations were still pointing to the configured default browser, I noticed however I could not uncheck the defaults already set.
So despite the obvious configuration being correct, links would still open in IE10 even after yet another reboot.
I went ahead and checked the registry associations, and found that http(s) protocol as well as htm(l) filetypes were associated with Internet Explorer with various EditFlags set (presumably to prevent changing them through the user interface, or to ignore the user interface settings).

Seriously Microsoft? Don't you have enough trouble yet?

There are no significant file errors in either SFC or CheckSUR logs.

In these cases, it has sometimes been a solution to uninstall IE9, reboot a couple of times, and then reinstall IE9 again, before installing IE10 successfully.

And I did, BUT, Windows Update still see drivers to update such Intel HD, Touchpad, etc.

Ok, it is working now. Steps I took :

2) Download and tried the installer for (my localized) IE10 : failed to install
3) Started windows update, suddenly there where 43 optional updates available including IE9
4) Installed all optional updates except IE9
5) Retried the installation of IE10 (not visible any more in updates) : succes

Hi there. Just curious...

My biggest problem with Outlook reminders is that I frequently wind up ignoring the Reminder window. It's in the taskbar (3 Reminders!), and that's where I forget about it and miss my meeting. Is there any way to have the Reminder screen keep popping up every 5 minutes or so? I've looked everywhere in the options and haven't seen it, and I would certainly try 3rd party software if it did the trick. Thanks,

Since the updating to ie 10 my internet is very slow but only on the external monitor.  If I use the laptop  internet comes up fine on the laptop but the monitor is way behind.  When I type on the monitor it is a good 20 - 30 seconds befor it appears yet it shows on the laptop monitor. Any solutions?

I'd remove IE 10...then see if issues remain with IE 9 or a different browser...before going any further.

Hi all,

I wanna ask how to stop virus definition of Microsoft Security Essentials update via Windows Update. It's not about bandwidth-saving. I just want to do this via software itself either automatically or manually. How?

Thanks in advance.

A:How to stop definition update via Windows Update?

It's not easily doable - MSE actually does the downloads and installs itself, and the WU entries are a secondary tool.
You'd need to change entries within the Scheduled Tasks, I think.

I tried to update to IE10 but Windows Update returns a 9C59 error. I investigated the internet and the Windows KB and tried every possible solution, but without any result.
I seems that IE10 is already partially installed. IE gives a IE9 installation, but the Windows Component Installer gives me already IE10.
All other updates, with exception of KB2862772 (Security update of IE), will install without any problem.

I ran all the programs as in the Windows Update Posting Instructions and also included the IE9_Main.log and IE10_Main.log (???).

Can please somebody help me out.

Not too long ago Gregrocker was so very kind and totally did a reinstall of my Windows7 Home Premium Edition 32-bit for me. It was a complete disaster and he had magical fingers and fixed my laptop so it felt like it was brand new again. I had my IE back of which I didn't have before and he set my laptop up for me so I wouldn't have any problems. And I was extremely grateful for everything that he helped me with.

Well I'm back again with problems once again with this stupid IE. I personally switched from my GoogleChrome on the words from Greg that it just wasn't as good as Microsoft. So I gave it a try and I've been using FireFox ever since then...I don't even go into IE ever...and the updates were set up for I really didn't have to worry about that either or so I thought...BUT...I had to go into IE for work related stuff and when I went in there that's when I noticed everything looked all messed up. I don't even have a front page everything is white and over on the right it looks like a different language of which I have no idea which one...I tried to go into my windows updates to see what was installed and saw that IE11 was installed with a ton of other items as well...and reading in the Microsoft post about all this I hi-lited IE11 and uninstalled it and it took me back to IE10 but I still have all these problems that I don't know how to explain nor how to fix. So where do I go or how do I start fixing this in dummy mode
Any suggestions would be great.

I checked the troubleshooting page but nothing helped.

Today I finally decided to update IE, but unfortunately windows update failed(see screenshot). I downloaded a standalone IE10 package and tried to install it, but it didn't help either. Then I decided to uninstall IE9 before installing IE 10. Alas, uninstalling it from windows updates list didn't work.
Then I decided to remove IE9 by turning it off in "Windows features", but instead of features list, the system showed me an empty list. After some research, I followed instructions written here. That fixed Windows Features list, but still I was unable to disable IE this way.

Then I tried running following in elevated command prompt:

I have tried the uninstall/hide IE9 options, that messed with IE9 but luckily I managed to fix it. I also tried to install IE10 manually with the same result. How do I fix this? I keep getting a pop up message that says I must upgrade to IE10 but I already have IE10. How can I stop this annoying message? Am also getting Your PC has 400 errors. Fix by downloading this, etc.

A:IE10 Update Message

The upgrade to ie10 is usually a sign a website does not recognize your using Compatibility view,
You can usually see the Broken page icon on the top right of the url address bar
Blue is active,
If the icon does not appear use the F12 key and click on Browser mode and click on ie10 the page will automatically refresh then you can close the developer tools window.
On the other popup message,
You probably picked up a bug what security do you have Installed ?
You can use these free tools to see if they find anything,
Manually Update them before running full scans,
Try not to use your computer while the scans are running, (one at a time of course).
Uncheck the box to Activate the Free trial from the final install options,
This one is the longest up to 4 hours, the others are only about 45 minutes,

You can also see what's loading with windows using Clean boot,
You can upload screen shots if you wish to,

Because of the virus news, I just installed 2 IE10 updates. Upon reboot of the Win 8 (x64) machine to finish the update installs, my screen goes black just before the log-in screen. The cursor is all that shows, so I can neither see to log-in nor navigate. Suspect an IE update conflict with my NVIDIA drivers. In my XP days, I would boot into Safe Mode and do a system restore to remove the offending updates, but that doesn't appear to be an option on booting up Win 8. Not interested in Refresh or Reset unless that is the only option as I've of programs, color management files and pro print drivers, so a Refresh will require loads of time for re-installs and settings. Is there any way in from the boot menu in Win 8 to do a system restore or uninstall the offending updates without going the Refresh route? Thanks

A:IE10 Update Blanks Screen

Using the win 8 recovery disk, I found a system restore option. But it gives an error... To use System Restore, you must specify which windows installation to restore. Restart this computer and select an O...S..., and then select System Restore" This is on a single boot/OS computer, as it came from the factory. My only boot options are to either go into the BIOS or to select a boot device (USB, HDD, etc). There's no option I can find to select my only OS. Searching on the web, it appears that some recovery disks give the option to change boot settings, but mine does not have that option. Other possibilities?

I've got one staffer who is experiencing the following issue with Outlook 2007 calendaring.

She has a recurring appointment on Wednesday of every week. 15 minutes before the scheduled meeting, the reminder pops up. OK... this is good.

It's an hour long meeting, and 15 minutes after the end of the meeting, a reminder pops up that she is now past due to the meeting.

Then, it keeps reminding every 15 minutes and will continue to do so until the notices are ignored. It does this everyday, until the next meeting rolls around, when it starts reminding 15 minutes ahead again. Not so good.

Any thoughts as to where to start looking for the source of this oddity?

Hello all. I've been having a similar problem to what has been addressed here already and I was hoping that I could get some help.

I am running IE10 on Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) and haven't really been having any problems except that Windows keeps trying to update to IE10 and when I let the update run it fails with error code 9C48.

I think the update keeps coming back because (1) in Windows Features it only shows IE9 and (2) in the installed updates it only shows IE9. I've tried uninstalling IE10, but there is nowhere to execute an uninstall command (no version of IE shows up in the Remove Programs menu in Control Panel).

I would like for the auto update to go away because these three features are synched (auto update, windows features and installed updates) rather than hiding the update and running the IE Update Blocker.

I have attached the CBS log and a screenshot of the error.

Thank you in advance.

Problem originally started when trying to complete a Windows Update to install IE10 -- had connection issues due to my router and needless to say, the install failed... miserably. Kept trying to reinstall IE10 through Windows Update, and also manually, to no avail.

Strangely enough, I could open IE, though not be able to use any of the toolbar menus or type in any address in the URL bar without it crashing.

IE10 was not showing in the installed update list, however IE9 was. Tried uninstalling IE9 and have gotten myself into an even bigger mess. Now, IE10 IS showing in the installed update list but the system is requesting that I install IE9. Still fails just as before with the resulting 'Code 9C48'. Can also still open IE but get the same type of crash as before.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You have some major registry corruption.

Seconds executed: 1923
Found 586 errors
CBS MUM Corrupt Total count: 2
CSI Missing Winning Component Key Total count: 584
This seems to be a fairly comprehensive listing of the IE9 entries.

It's not feasible to attempt to fix that manually - your only real option is going to be a repair install of Windows, followed by reinstalling IE9, and updating fully before attempting IE10 again.

Hi all, I'm new to this forum - recently had trouble installing a security update for IE10. It seems like IE related updates tend to give my computer trouble. The update installs ok, but then after restarting, it fails when configuring, then reverts to the original state.

I prepared a file, but it is too large to upload so I made a dropbox link:

I have tried nearly all I have found for these errors, but nothing solved it.
As far as I understand, the SP1 is installed, but the update tool cannot find it, or something like this.
Also it could be a problem with the installed language packs, but I could not uninstall or install it again.

You are my last chance, I really do not want to do an inplace upgrade on this productive machine.

Thanks a lot.

Other than the problem I am going to describe I have had no other problems with my machine, IE10, FF19 or Opera12.14 and I would like to solve this or else I will have to perform a system restore. With this being a new update I have not found a match to my problem here or on the web.

The problem has to do with managing attachments here on SevenForums.

When I click on the browse button if I want to upload a screenshot or picture to a post I am making here on SevenForums the resulting Open File window only shows 6 of the 32 picture folders I have in my Pictures Library, 81% of the Folders are missing. All of my Documents are listed.
All of my Music is listed.
All of my Videos are listed.
But 26 folders in Libraries\Pictures are missing.
This behavior only occurs in IE10, whether or not it is in Enhanced Protection Mode.

In FF19 and Opera12.14 everything is there. All of my Documents are listed.
All of my Music is listed.
All of my Pictures are listed.
All of my Videos are listed.
I have gone through Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs to see if there were any changes to the IE settings, but IE looked okay.
I checked Properties\Securities for the four Libraries and they are the same.
I also went over the Tools\Internet Options\Advance Tab settings in IE10 and they look okay to.
Would it have to do with security, and the fact that Manage attachments opens a new window?

Any Ideas? I'm stumped.

windows update is nice but sometimes i simply want it to go away, in XP this was possible through (command prompt) "net stop "automatic updates". but now if i try this (net stop "windows update") on vista it just says "system error 0005: access is denied."

what type of Operating system doesn't let you have full and unrestricted access to your computer?!?

does anyone know how to get around this

i've tried ending it in task manager, just comes back

I assume you don't want to go to Automatic updates and click on "never check for updates" You could make it "go away" like that.

I have problem with Muliple Broswer tabs (self) opening & pointing to "IE10 start here" pages and when using Outlook it goes to "start here" pages when trying to type in Outlook emails. It is quite something to see over a hundred cascading windows trying to get you started with Welcome to Microsoft Internet Explorer 10... and another one is the

Same problem whether typing any characters in the search engine boxes on IE10 or google chrome. New tabs open "by themselves" and attempt/redirect to go to start MSN/Bing pages. They dont all load fully and new tabs open. Over 180 tabs "self-opened" last time in google chrome. I tried google chrome after having this happen in IE10 - so it seems to be a windows 8 issue. Maybe other programs are affected but ive only tried Outlook 2010 and Web Browsers...thats enough for now!

This is a new HP Desktop PC with factory fresh windows 8 Home premium and MSOffice Pro Plus 2010 install. Have changed all browsers to home page of google but IE10 or chrome if i make it the defalut browser and still self opens and tries to go to MS start pages.

I closed IE10 and/or chrome with task manager and created a dump file and also set windows error self reporting to auto (because it was set to manual by default) and it should be running self error reporting windows app like in previous Windoes versions but there is nio indication it is sending anything to MS. Yep...sure enough there was no other users out there with similar problem so must be something unique to equipment.

PC was set up with HP wired Keyboard and issues after testing installation. New Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse was issued and after a while (few days) problem began to appear.

F1 key was sticking. Beat it up a bit and problem gone. Hold down the F1 key and same problems...multiple browser windows opening, help windows opening etc depending on application you are in. haha...stupid. To think... blamed windows 8 for this problem when it is only everything else that is wrong that is windows 8 fault.

When I open my laptop lid, it seems like it becomes very sluggish for the next 20-30 minutes. I checked the Task Manager and it turns out that the following service runs at a constant 50% CPU utilization:

wuauserv - Windows Update

and only if I stop it things come to normal.

Is there any other way to fix this?

A:How to stop Windows Update service from using up too much CPU?

Well you could open Windows Update, click "Change settings" and select "Never check for updates (not recommended)" in the Important updates drop-down list. It would then be up to you to open Windows Update and click "Check for updates" at times more convenient for you. Of course nearly all Windows updates are released on a Tuesday during the first half of each month, but important updates could be released at any time.

It has been observed that Windows Update became much more resource-intensive after Windows 10 was released this summer. Most who complained were running 32-bit Vista: windows update just seems to hang while checking.

I am using temporarily a mobile broadband service which is very expensive, and is charged by downloads. Unfortunately, this will last for the next 4 months.

So I went in and set Windows to "Never search for updates" or some such effect.

To my horror, it does not seem to work. Every time I log on, it would start downloading a whole heap of data, like Tens of MB in just a few minutes. I looked at the Network Activities on Task Manage ( Advanced Resource Monitor), and notice this download comes from IP address, I matched its PID and found a number of processes have the same ID, one of them is Windows Update. The image of the process is svchosts.exe(svcnts).

Am I barking up the right tree, that it is Windows Update still doing its job? Or could it be something else that I am not aware of. I set up the options for my Firefox, Adobe etc. to stop updating, and even disabled their service in "msconfig".

So if anyone else knows how do I kill or stop this download?

You can go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Update\Change settings and choose the way that you want to download or not download them.

Hey guys!

First of all, I'm running Windows 7 on a gaming desktop I put together a while back. Lately I've been experiencing some general weirdness with my computer, but it just finally culminated in an infinite reboot loop, so I'll get to that first, and then mention some of the other stuff that's been going on lately.

Since I've been out of the country and hadn't updated for a few months, I just ran Windows Update, and attempted to install the 29 important updates that it found. It said that 28 of them were successful, but that it would need to restart in order to install the last one. I let it go ahead with its restart, and came back to find it at the Startup Repair screen, saying that Startup Repair could not fix the issue. Now every time I start it up, it gets as far as the "Starting Windows" splash screen, stays there for a while, and then restarts, with the default option on restart being Startup Repair.

No luck with safe mode (gets stuck on Aswrvrt.sys) or last known good configuration (has the same effect as attempting to boot normally) so I selected the option to disable the automatic restart, and I was able to see the blue screen error:

I have to use IE for some ActiveX cameras. No choice. I only use IE for them so II am not worried about the security level I have to set, even if IE thinks they are dangerous settings.

I keep getting a box at the bottom saying "You current settings put your computer at risk" then a button the "Fix settings for you."

I have accidentally clicked it several times as it is in the exact same spot as the button to launch the ActiveX stuff. Then it goes and resets all the damned settings.

I guess I could slow down and read the screen but, let's be real here.

I need IE to stay %#^$ out of the way, so how can I stop that message from popping up.

Windows 10 keeps installing the ASUS Smart Gesture touchpad driver on my laptop. The driver is garbage and it runs three memory resident processes, which seems rather excessive for a touchpad driver. The default Windows touchpad driver works perfectly well, so I want to use that instead of the ASUS driver. However, if I uninstall the ASUS driver Windows Update quickly reinstalls it.

I disabled automatic driver installation when I installed Windows 10, as you can see here:

Despite that Windows update keeps installing the ASUS Smart Gesture driver.

Any idea how I can make it stop?

There were also some "updates waiting to be installed". She ran Malwarebytes (removed a few items). She also attempted to run the Windows Update for both Windows 7 SP1 (x64) and IE9. I have found that if I stop the Automatic Updates Service, it runs ok, but as soon as this service is restarted, the error is back. This error normally relates to hardware, like memory, or as was suggested by Microsoft, graphics, either driver or card...which does not explain why it doesn't happen if this service is stopped, but returns immediately it is restarted.

Hi there

Wondered if someone could offer advice as to where I go from here.

I (perhaps rather foolishly) offered to clean up my partner's laptop because she said it was really slow and not working properly.

After I had moved nearly 12,000 videos and pictures on to an external hard drive the laptop started to behave as it should. I ran some anti-malware software and CC Cleaner and cleared out lots of clutter, defragged the hard drive etc and all seemed well.

Until that is I tried to install Adobe Lightroom 5 (as she has wanted this on her laptop for a while). I couldn't get it to install for love nor money. A 1935 Error every time. I know this is a software issue but please bear with me as this does lead to my problems with Windows Update.

After much digging around, various Microsoft articles appeared to point to a NETframework problem and I followed the instructions about deleting it and reinstalling it. All to no avail. After nearly 12 hours of trying I gave up and decided to update her laptop with all the latest updates and hand it back.

But I am now getting a continual loop telling me to "Restart your computer to install important updates" and when I do and go back to update Windows I get the same message. Over and over. It also says I have no updates installed and that the machine has never installed any (even though they were reasonably up to date as I only had to install a coupe of updates when I first got the laptop).

A:Solved: How do I stop a certain Windows Update from never installing itself?

First it is a good idea to select, in the update options, Check for updates but let me choose...etc
When you are notified of the update, it is ok to download it. Then select the notification and you will be taken to a new window, with the list of available updates. Right click the update and there is an option to "hide" it. Do that and you will not be troubled again, unless, of course, that particular update is sunsequently changed.

Okay so I don't remember doing it but my computer must had restarted or something during an update as I cannot get Windows 7 to update now. It will just say searching for updates constantly.

I have looked online and tried a few different of the suggestions but it has come to down to a point where I need help to get the most updates available to me.

Things I have observed as well:

Even if I manually download a update and open it to install it just continues to say "searching"

I have also tried using the Update fixit tool I saw on a link on a different help topic on Microsoft and it said it fixed everything but one item from an update done and it gives this in the same line 0x80070005. I did google that and it appears it can have to do with permissions or something? Not 100% sure but I have even allowed svchost.exe into my firewall so it should be allowing that to occur. I have even allowed full control of APPData.

Here is my CBS attached, and I have also done a SFC /scannow and it came up clean. - Google Drive

A:Windows Update doesn't stop searching

Follow these instructions exactly.
First, set Windows Updates to never check for Updates.
Next reboot your computer, then install KB3020369, if not installed.
Then install KB3172605.

Windows updates should return to normal. You can then reset your updates to automatically check for updates if desired

I believe you are on the right track when saying to marvinnash33 that the Error 9c59 problem is a missing WinSXS IE9 assembly.

This is just bizarre...I have a laptop with Windows 8.1 Pro. I had confirmed that I wanted to upgrade it to Windows 10 Pro using the system tray "Get Windows 10" update, but changed my mind. So when I was told that the Windows 10 update was ready, I told the "Get Windows 10" update that I didn't want to reserve an update anymore. I thought that would be the end of it.
So when I went to get updates today, Windows Update showed on the opening page that it was ready to install Windows 10, and of course none of the Windows 8.1 updates were preselected, why would I need those if I'm upgrading to Windows 10? Since I'd already indicated that I didn't want the Windows 10 update, this was strange.
So I uninstalled the "Get Windows 10" system tray update and hid it, and deselected the optional Windows 10 update, and hid it, too. That should have taken care of business, since the Windows 10 optional update was clearly not selected for download.
But now, every time I go to Windows update to try to get updates for Windows 8.1, even though Windows 8.1 updates are the only ones selected, and the number of optional updates selected indicates that the Windows 10 upgrade is not selected, the first thing that it says that it is doing is downloading the unselected Windows 10 update. I have no idea why this is happening and really need to fix it so that I can just get Windows 8.1 updates.

I'm currently checking for updates on a fresh install of Windows 7 in a virtual machine.
The check for updates has been running for a few hours, but looking at the windowsupdate.log file I'm not sure it's going smoothly.
The last line of the file says this:
2016-04-04    17:39:00:468     380    bf0    DtaStor    WARNING: Attempted to add URL for file 3Zfoq2lZ7j2OnH5LWaShgEUW0aM= when file has not been previously added to the datastore

I attempted to upgrade to Windows 10 on this particular machine. The upgrade failed due to something called the "AMD K8 trap" or something similar. I tried both the update and clean install methods. At one point, Windows 10 was installed apparantly, but then crashed (the K8 trap message again) and I had to try again. Nothing was successful in this upgrade attempt. When I tried to roll back to Windows 7 after the numerous failed upgrade attempts, I was left with some issues. I have managed to resolve most of the issues except the Windows Update. My computer was fully updated when I attempted to upgrade.

I even tried to restore my hard drive to a brand new drive using Macrium Reflect but that failed as well; another sad story..

So... I need assistance from someone way more knowledgeable about this than I.

Currently, I get a notification in the task bar telling me that there are updates available for Windows 7.

When I click on the update icon, either I get a windows update message that Windows 10 update failed and asks me to try again (There is an error code but I forgot to write it down) or, I get a different message telling me that there are updates available and asking me if I want to download and install them.

If I accept the invitation to download and install them, Windows Update begins to download the updates (there are many now apparantl... Read more

Use option 3 here to reset everything
Windows Update - Reset

When manually installing updates you need to switch your update settings to Never check for updates and restart the machine first.

Make sure KB3020369 is installed if not manually install it,
Win-7 32 bit
Win-7 64 bit

Then manually install KB3172605
Win-7 32 bit,
Win-7 64 bit,

After switch your windows update settings back to what you had prior and manually check for updates and the rest should show up shortly.

Hello, I've gone through the Preparation guide and I believe I've followed all the rules, here's my problem:Running XP Home, Windows Firewall enabled1) Been getting lots of SystemErrorFixer pop ups and to a lesser extent AntiSpywareMaster pop ups. 2) I also notice that when clicking on folders in an external hard drive, just by opening them, Windows Explorer will crash and display the error msg about how it had to close. These folders haven't had anything new installed in them and just contain old video files. 3) Can't turn on Windows Automatic Update, tried going through usual routes such as services.msc and starting it, enabling hardwire profile, etc. as recommended in Microsoft support sites and others. Give the error 1048(I believe that's the one?) and says it can't be turned on no matter what I try.Running PC-Cillin 2008 with auto updates still working fine, did scans and clean attmepts with that as well as Avira, Ewido (online free version), and SUPERAntiSpyWare. But problems still persist. I look forward to your help and thank you in advance for this great service, below are my DSS and Kapersky logs:Deckard's System Scanner v20071014.68Run by Douglas on 2008-05-29 20:05:39Computer is in Normal Mode.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- System Restore --------------------------------------------------------------Failed to create restore point; unknown error code 0x00000001Backed up registry hives.Performed disk cleanup.Total ... After an automatic update to my HP pavilion laptop computer, all of my word files are now saved in Word 2007 instead of Word 2010. I used the restore point and the problem disappeared. As soon as the update (identified as a critical update) occurred, the problem resumed. The update seems to have wiped out my Word 2010 program.
