.net framework 4 issue causing XNA framework 4 issues

Q: .net framework 4 issue causing XNA framework 4 issues

Ok, sunk a couple hours into what the problem is, unfortunately I cannot work out how to fix it short of reinstalling my operating system (If I take it off, I refuse to put it back on, to many headaches already).

Basically I needed to update to .net framework 4, and my system lied and said it was done successfully. I then tried to update to XNA framework 4, and got;

"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2908"

Followed by;

"An error occurred during the installation of
assembly 'microsoft.xna.framework.avatar,fileversion="4.020823.0",version="4.0.0.00000",culture="neutral",pub licKeyToken="842CF8BE1DE50553",processorArchitecture="MSIL". Please refer to help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x8002802F"

Which, when I googled it, told me I wasn't alone at least.

I started looking at the 2908 error and found a few links to the Microsoft answers page, an answer and a line of people basically saying that the answer did not work. Rather than including myself in their number, I kept looking, and found the sfc/scannow command (Which refuses to run,"windows resource protection could not start the repair service"(Why don't these messages ever tell me <WHY>?)), and at Microsoft XNA Framework 4.0 problem | Terraria Online

"In the article I posted above it says mscoree.dll could have failed to update when installing .NET framework 4, and the installer may not be aware of it. Go into your windows system32 and/or syswow64 folder and check the properties of mscoree.dll - if it's version 2.0 instead of 4.0 then the .NET framework didn't install correctly. See that article for more info."

That is the case, the "mscoree.dll" is still version 2.something.

That is where I am now, and pretty much everything I find says to delete and reinstall everything over and over again until it works, everything from .net 4 to my entire OS.

Hello,

A few days ago I was trying to upgrade my .NET framework to play a game and noticed the download hangs and failed with the error code 0xc8000247.

Upon numerous online research and supposed fixes, I could not get my system to download the file correctly. So, I went to my Windows Update to see if I was behind on any updates that might prevent an update. Windows Update and Defender are unable to activate and are stuck in a perpetual state of inactivity. More troubleshooting, no answers.

Upon running chkdsk and sfc, I located corrupt files that were unable to be fixed by the system along with the CBS log report of which makes no sense to me.

I know the obvious answer is "just reformat your drives", but it's not that simple unfortunately. Since I bought my laptop from MSI almost 5 years ago, every time I have used one of the 4 sets of reformat discs they have sent me or the recovery option in the BootMgr, I received a reagentc.exe false which leaves me with a computer lacking an OS. Wish they would have given my the Windows 7 Disc for a fresh install.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like my only option here would be manually locate the corrupt files and replace them with fresh installs. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A:File Corruption Causing Issues With Reformatting, .NET Framework, etc.

The factory preinstall is the worst install of Win7 one can have, larded with bloatware and duplicate utilities which interfere with better versions built into Win7. Most tech enthusiasts won't run such an install but choose instead to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.
Everything needed is in the blue link including the latest official installer for your licensed version and tool to burn to DVD or flash stick.
Sometimes the inferior Factory Recover disks can be made to run by first wiping the HD from the Win7 DVD's Command Line with Diskpart Clean Command .

But why run the worst install one can have when you can have the very best, and enjoy Win7's perfect performance on that PC for the first time?!

Hi I tried twice today to download and install the following updates, Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86. it is a large update taking approx 30mins to download the 248MB package. Both times it got to the end of the download and the next I got was a message saying installation failed. At first I thought it was Comodo BoClean so turned it off the second time but got the same result anyway.
My PC is an AMD Athlon XP2400+, 1GB of RAM running on XP3 and updated via Automatic Updates "notify but do not install". I got a MSN email notification on IE8 RC1 and decided to check my Firewall connection to Microsoft Update, where I was told that the mentioned updates were available and decided to install them though not IE8 at this time.

For real time protection I use Comodo CIS, Comodo BoClean and SpywareBlaster. I switched off BoClean the second time and set CIS to installation mode both times. I cannot see anything else on my PC which could hinder the installation process. In my Add/Remove program list I have Microsoft .NET Framework versions 1.1,1.1 Hotfix, 2.0 Service Pack1, 3.0 Service Pack1, 3.5, Should I uninstall these before installing the latest version or should they all remain on my installed programs?. I would appreciate it if someone could offer some help here as I like to keep my PC up to date.

Hi .Well...let's start with the reason you have MS .NET installed on your system. What applications/drivers do you use which require any version? If you have no such applications...IMO it's not even necessary to install any version of MS .NET on a system. Doing so is a waste of time for those who don't have applications which demand MS .NET.http://forums.techarena.in/customize-xp/866859.htmLouis

I have the task of resolving a .NET Framework issue on a friends HP laptop running Windows XP. It seems that whenever the system starts up, an error message is displayed as follows:

hpqthb08.exe - .NET Framework initialization error. To run this application you first must install one of the following versions of the .NET Framework: v1.1.4322

I have tried to run MS updates and they fail due to this issue and when I try to remove it from the laptop I get a query for a missing file: s867460.msp. I've tried to remove it in order to re-install it thinking that the file hpqthb08.exe is somehow corrupted. However all de-installation attempts fail seeking the location of this s867460.msp file. I cannot locate a download for this file and at the moment have no idea where to turn.

Any ideas?

I haven't downloaded this update as I have dial-up and it says 26-48 hours to update this. Also, I had to reformat my computer three times with the SP3, even downloading from disk instead of internet - so scared to download Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86 as don't want to have to reformat (and also don't want my computer running for 2-3 days to download).
Are there problems with this download like there were with SP3 (I ended up never being able to have a working computer with SP3)? Do I need this update? Will there be problems if I download from internet, and if not any other ways to update this (for free)?
Thank you.

Hi all!

I?ve been using a software for trading stocks for a while now (like 3 years) and no problem whatsoever! the software is given by the broker and is a platform used by many.

the thing is that lately, since the last updates, it has been asking me to install .NET framework 4, otherwise it will stop working in 5 days!

I installed framework 4, everything goes smooth BUT the the trading software won?t launch! if I uninstall framework 4 it starts working again just fine! but still asks me to install framework 4 in the remaining 5 days!

after the deadline, I have to unintall the trading software and install it again. I?ve called the broker and they say that they haven?t heard of such a problem! right...

I have this trading software running on three computers: two desktops running win7 x64 and a laptop running win7 x86.

on the laptop, wich is 32bits, I upgraded the framework 4 and it works fine, as good as before!

on the other two desktops, wich are 64 bits, this problem is hapenning!

I think I can conclude that the big connection here is "win7 x64 --- framework 4"

Can anyone help me? does anyone see a solution based on what I described?

Thanks, any answer will be apreciated!

Tried everything. From adding full user control to trusted installer and creator/owner in Windows/Microsoft. net and Program Data directories to therepair service verifier, making sure virus scanner is off, fixit solutions, sfc /scannow's clean bill of health, uninstalling a few upgrades mentioned with .netframe 4.0 and 3.5 etc etc. I get a fatal error if I try to uncheck .net 3.5 (the only version I can see since all other have been uninstalled) in 'turn windows features on and off), smartmsizap, msiinv, Smart boot(cold boot? with the startup items not checked and initial boot config). I think something is wrong here with either registry or program permissions because the initial 4.5.1/4.5.2 install zips to a random c:/ directory and then it asks me to find netfx_core_x64.msi which I point to in that directory, but says it is not the netfx_core_x64.msi that came with the installation.

As of current, I do not have any working .net framework which is bad because 1) some progrmas, ie video games require it 2) my schoolwork/development environments need it for things like Git

Another weird thing is although I manually installed net framework 1.1, only 3.5 shows up in the 'turn windows features on or off' and I can't 'uncheck' it or add the sub trees underneath it. Almost like it is not there but doesn't want to install additional componenets or be completely uninstalled.

I just finished a 69mb download for .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update For .NETVersions 2.0 thru 3.5. This update also added an addon in Firefox named Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant 1.0.Does anyone have any comments on whether to allow this addon or not? It can be disabled. There are 2 options in the addon. The first option is to prompt or not to prompt before running Click Once Applications. I chose PROMPT. The second option was to Report All Versions of .net or only the latest version. The default is to report onlythe latest and I left it like that. What the heck are Click Once Applications? Just a note to anyone reading this and haven't installed this month's Windows Updates. This update is notan "unattended" update for everyone. My ZA firewall asked me for permission for two different elements to access the net half way thru the install process. I also noticed even after Windows said to reboot to complete, there was still a lot of processor activity for 2 or 3 minutes.EDIT:I found the info I was looking for in Wikipedia. There's no tricking a program as it will search for the 4.5 installation files to use. .NET framework is a program that runs to help other programs function within Windows.

Hi
I'm running Windows 7 32bit.

I performed a clean install on a new hard drive, I successfully ran a few updates with Windows update and eventually was offered the .NET Framework 4 Client Profile which i installed.
When i tried to check for updates after that it failed with error 0x8024402f.
I have tried the "FixIt" tools from Microsoft, none hav ehelped.
The only thing that allows me to check for updates succesfully is if I uninstall .NET Framework 4 Client Profile.

I downloaded more updates from the Microsoft catalog site, specifically for .NET 4, hoping that these would fix the problem.

I have also tried reinstalling windows (after having formatted the drive again) and without any other software (not even anti virus software) running windows update.
The same thing happened; the first few updates were succesfull, but as soon as .NET 4 Client profile is installed, checking for updates fails.

I have a few files that might be helpfull namely a Network capture taken during the attempted update check, an excerpt from the WindowsUpdate.log file.

Bottom line is though, This problem only happens when i have .NET framework 4 Client Profile installed.

This is a very strange problem becuase I installed the .NET Framework 4 when it was released and have not had any issues with updates since then. Its just recently since I reformatted...

Please help!

Last week I posted an issue that I was having with a failed uninstall of Net Framework 1.1 and therefore I could not reinstall Net Framework. Thanks to you folks on this forum I was able to solve that problem. (I ran Windows Installer Cleanup and then installed Net Framework 1.1).

But, now I have a new issue with Net Framework. Version 1.1 is installed and working just fine. Windows updater keep telling me that I need to install the Service Pack for 1.1. However, when I let Windows Update Service do its thing it says that the install failed. Over and over I have tried to install the SP, but just won't do it.

Qestions: Anyone know how to solve this? Should I have installed Net Framework 1.0 before I installed 1.1? Does this make any difference? Is the Service Pack really necessary if I only need it to run my ATI video drivers?

Thanks again for any help.

I recently got a PC Hardware Upgrade. I was earlier using intel Pentium 4 processor [3.06 GHz], 512 DDR RAM, Win XP Pro SP 3

Now I've upgraded my hardware to core i3 [2100], 3.1 GHz, 4 GB DDR 3 RAM. Got a new motherboard as well.

Eversince I've done a clean install of Win XP Pro OS, I'm having trouble with .net framework.

First I installed version 2.0 [that I had on my driver CD]. Then I installed version 3.5. Then I updated my windows for all the .net updates. I installed then version 4. 0. Then my system started having startup problems. The icons didn't appear. I used to open windows task manager, do the end process for explorer.exe. Then start a new process [type explorer]. Then the icons and the taskbar appeared. I guess .net 4 has some issues with 2. I have only version 2 installed. It was also installed before i installed ver. 4.

Now I have the following .net versions installed.

.net framework version 2.0 [sp 2]

.net framework version 3.0 [sp 2]

.net framework version 3.5 [sp 2]

What exactly is going wrong?

A:Issues with dot net framework

Are you sure you need all those versions of dotnet?, or indeed do you need any of them? dotnet is only required for certain applications, so check what, if any, versions you need. If you don't need any, uninstall all of them.

Additionally, i get an unknown error when i've tried to install windows live, both via windows update and when i dl the .exe from the website. i am not sure if the two are related or not.

Hello. Hopefully someone can assist with a problem I have dealt with trying to install Quicken 2013. The install hangs up halfway through and fails. Okay, I have a slight problem with .NET Frameworks. When I open ?%systemroot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework? in Windows Explorer (as per How to determine which versions of the .NET Framework are installed and whether service packs have been applied) it tells me that I have the following .NET Frameworks:

v1.0.3705
v1.1.4322
v2.0.50727
v3.0
v3.5

Is it really necessary for my system to have ALL five of those .NET Frameworks?

I wouldn?t care if they all stayed there, IF they all were not prohibiting me from playing Sims 3, specifically effecting the Game Launcher in that I cannot install game content.

So, if removing all but v3.5 is possible, and removing the previous .NET Frameworks WILL NOT cause system problems or else prohibit me from using other programs at all, then I would really like to know how exactly it is that I can remove the previous four versions.

I have already looked at ?Turn Windows Features On or Off? and it only lists .NET Framework 3.5 (which is the precise version I need for Sims 3) and mentions nothing about the previous four .NET Frameworks.

So I would really appreciate some help/intel on this, with detailed instructions on how to go about removing these previous four .NET Frameworks and if doing so can cause potential problems, and if that is the case, how I can put them all back on there etc.

Thank you so much for your help in advance!

Hi EvilOzzmess.Welcome to SevenForums.

The following is from Microsoft:

The Microsoft? .NET Compact Framework 3.5 Redistributable contains the common language runtime and class libraries built for the .NET Compact Framework. In addition to version 3.5 support, it also supports applications developed for version 1.0 and 2.0. The .NET Compact Framework 3.5 provides new features such as Windows Communication Foundation, LINQ, SoundPlayer, new runtime tool support, and many other features.

and then :

That would seem, to me, to mean that 3.5 is backwardly compatible with the previous .NET releases.

With regards to the uninstalling of .NET :

There should be no problem in uninstalling .NET Framework from your Windows system. Removing .NET Framework can be done simply through the Add/Remove Program or other uninstaller application you might have.

However, it is possible that you cannot completely uninstall .NET Framework due to some errors or issues you encounter during the installation. Corrupted or inclomplete installation of .NET Framework could cause it unable to be completely uninstalled.

Here is a link to an automatic cleanup utility to remove .NET versions that you wish to remove.

Hi, Try first to enable the previous version of NetFramework v2 in the Services.

Control Panel=>Administration Tools=>Services, and set to manual the two entries of NetFramework v2. The NetFramework should be set Automatic (delayed).

If you installed the Netframework v4 without the Windows Update, you should whenever check which version x32 or x64 had been installed.

Hi All,

My Dimension Dell E510 recently crashed and I've decided to hookup a Dell Dimension 9100 Windows XP Service Pack 3 desktop which a friend gave me. Everything was going well, the Windows update took place and everything seemed ok. However, when I try to download certain programs from a .Net source I receive the error message "to run this application, you must first install one of the following versions of the .Net Framework: v2.0.50727". So, I naturally went to CNET and some other sites to get the update (I currently have V1.1.4322), however, when I try to download it I get the same error message. If I need this update to run certain applications, how can I get it if the error message shows while I'm trying to download it? Do I have to get it from a none .net source? I'm not sure what to do, any expertise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Also, I checked the install root of the .Net Framework on my comp and it says C:\ WINDOWS \ Microsoft.NET \ Framework \ Thanks again!

Best to download from Microsoft directly. I think your download is here: Download: .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86) - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details
but if not MS has other versions available. If you don't have the installer, that site has it also.

Hey guys,

I have a new compaq notebook with windows 7. Everytime I restart my computer it pops up a message that says "You need Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 to continue" But when I try to download 2.0 it says I already have it. What's going on? Also, as soon as I click okay on the message about having the framework, it goes away and everything seems to work fine.

Please help me with figuring out how to get 2.0 uninstalled or reinstalled or whatever I need to do! Thanks!

I'm not exactly sure what the root of the issues is but for the past month i haven't been able to open apps coded in C# the GUI is just a blank screen and my icons seem to be broken. I uninstalled .net framework and installed framework 4.5 but was not prompted to reboot so i reboot anyway. Didn't fix a thing not really sure what it could be? any ideas? Oh and when i update framework through windows update they get auto cancelled just the frameworks! So i assumed that was the issue...

A:.Net FrameWork Issue?

Normally when there are download problems, it could be a sign of an infection as they can prevent the user from downloading programs to combat it, but see if this MS Fixit will resolve your broken icons problem.

This one is a MS .NET Framework Repair Tool for up to v4.0 - so uninstalling v4.5 and running on just v4.0 to see if that resolves, but read through the article relating to the Redistributable file folders which could also be a source of the updates self-cancelling - sorry don't have anything on repairing v4.5 as the tool hasn't been updated to include v4.5 yet as far as I know.

If you don't have v4.0 then you can download it from here

If you still have problems and those fixits won't download/work in Safe Mode with Networking then I would suggest that you open a new thread in the Virus & Trojan section after reading NEW INSTRUCTIONS - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help

It's a busy section but if you haven't had a response within 72hrs then give the thread a Bump.

Any information as to why this might be and what can be done to ratify the situation would be most welcome. I need to open a program which requires Net Framework.

I have either lost or inadvertantly deleted my .net framework 3.5 version off of my system. I do have the 4.0 version installed. How do I go about reinstalling the 3.5 version? I have the downloaded install file, but when I run it, it keeps telling me to go to the Turn Windows Features On or Off section and enable the 3.5 version. I have checked it and it is already enabled, it simply does not show that it is an installed and active version. Does the 4.0 version circumvent the older 3.5 version and make it unnecessary to have both installed and active?

Whenever I boot up CS:S I get this...

And this in R.O.S.E. Online
The box in the corner is the Console, as my launch settings for this were Windowed and Console. I can still hear the clicking sounds when I move my mouse over where the buttons are. When I click play in my steam games, they try to tell me my drivers are outdated (I am using a GeForce 4MX XD) but I downloaded the latest drivers.
I've tried several different launch options, uninstalling and reinstalling CS:S, and even uninstalling my drivers, restarting, and downloading the newest drivers for this integrated GPU.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get CS:S running on this computer?

I've also tried games with really low system requirements such as Maplestory to no avail. The reason I believe this is a .net issue is because I've also tried the Dungeons and Dragons Character Creator, which only requires that the computer has the recent .net framework. On all of these programs the result is when I boot up, a bunch of lines show up, like it is trying to load the game, but can't. I've uninstalled/reinstalled a bunch of times, both the programs, and the .Net frameworks. Right now I have no more windows updates to do, not even minor ones.

There is also an error message I get when I boot up that says my 'wftadfi16_080919a.dll' is missing (Error loading it).

Hello, I had been experiencing problems with several seemingly unrelated programs - one would fail with a specific task and several would refuse to load. I went to the tech support for one of those programs and they suggested that it was the .NET framework that was at fault. However, after trying to reinstall the libraries either the installer would fail or it would work with no change to the programs functionality. Malwarebytes scans revealed no malicious software and the few file integrity test I could find for the Framework came back all green. So, I came here asking if there were any procedures I may not have thought of and should try on my own.

I recently began getting the following error messages upon each re-boot:
"The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322
mscorwks.dll is not a valid image. Please check this against your installation diskette.", then I get the following error message: "C:WINDOWS
Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\mscorwks.dll could nto be loaded."

I tried to uninstall .NET v1.1 in order to reinstall it, however in the Control Panel then Add/Remove Programs, it does not show a button to uninstall it.

I tried to run Windowsupdate, and while it appears to install the latest update for .NET v1.1 successfully, Windowsupdate continue to say that I should update it with the same update, and the error messages continue to appear.

I also tried to download a fresh version of .NET v1.1 from MSDN, however I get an error when I try to install it.

There are posts on Microsoft that refer to an antivirus package that I don't use, with little other help, and several folks seem to have a similar issue.

Any suggestions?

I have tried EVERYTHING. First of all, I can't get the "Turn Windows On or Off" to populate (it always shows a blank screen). I did the Ready Update Install, deleted registry KB lines that that did not fix, I've tried to instal the .net 3.5. Of course, it won't install until I can go into Turn Windows On or Off, so I'm totally not wanting to system restore.

This is a new PC build from 3 weeks ago. I haven't been able to get .net 3.5 on there ever since because Turn Windows On or Off is always blank!!! I've tried every known fix to this!!!

Many users run their systems without the necessity for the .Net Frameworks.
If you install or run programs which require some version of the Framework, the setup should warn you of the fact.

Hi Glen

See how things go using the full .NET Framework 3.5 download, and installing that. I don't expect that you'll need to uninstall older versions first. If the install doesn't work, try visiting Windows Update & updating and Critical updates listed, then try the install again.

I researched the error and ran the fix that was provided on the MS website, but it did nothing.

Hi guys,This morning I installed a software called "CheVolume" which allows you to split the audio output on your computer. As far as I'm aware, the installation itself was smooth and problem free. But when I open it, it gives me an error message which reads:Error: Unable to cast object of type'System.Configuration.Internal.ConfigurationManagerInternal' to type'System.Configuration.Internal.IConfigSystem'.After some searching, I believe it may be a .NET Framework problem. I already have the latest one installed (I think 4.5, but I'm not sure how to check it) as I downloaded it from the Microsoft website and tried to reinstall, but it tells me that I don't need it. I'm out of ideas, so I would really appreciate your help.Thank you in advance.

I have to install an application for a job and when I run it, .NET Framework 3.0 is installed first , but it fails giving a 1603 error.

I tried changing the Permissions from this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Security\ServiceModel 3.0.0.0 to allow Everyone.

I made sure no firewall or other registry program was running.

I also downloaded an application called Error Fixer, or MS-Fixer or something like that, which I read about on these fora, but that didn't work either. It only prompted me to buy if I wanted it to do something.

I also tried to open the exe file using 7-Zip, so I could manually install .NET Framework 3.5 (already installed) and the actual program I want. But that didn't work either.

I don't know what else to do, since the problem is the version of Framework that comes with my application.

Any help? I have Vista Home Edition 32.

Hey guys.

I'm using Windows 8.1, trying to install .NET Framework 3.5 through the "Turn Windows features on or off" menu, and for some reason it won't connect to the update server, but only for this one feature, enabling and disabling everything else works just fine. It spits out error code 0x800F0906. When I go to the support site linked on the error message (https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2734782), it gives me a few things to try. None of them work. When I try the one that apparently fixes the issue for most people, Method 3, the terminal spits out an error about the files not being there (https://i.imgur.com/rxl7gnF.png). This error also being covered on the same page as the first, I read through that, made sure everything was good to go, and even tried it with a completely separate Windows 8.1 ISO (what I was originally using was a base Windows 8 ISO), still nothing.

Now, I had this issue a few days ago, and it was stopping me from running a few programs. Having gone through everything I could find on the matter, I decided it was just some sort of file corruption and decided to do a fresh "nuke & pave" reinstall. Nope, the issue persists! Is this a common issue with Windows 8.1? Am I just cursed?

Let me know if you guys know of any solutions I may have missed while googling. Thanks a bunch!

Greetings...
I've researched quite a bit to try and troubleshoot this on my own, but I think my problem stems from the fact that I installed and may be am running the wrong version of Windows Installer on my system. Please don't laugh...do I have a 64bit or an 86bit or am I running Win NT like HiJack This says? I think I installed the WIndows Installer for x86 and not mine...or does it not make a difference. Hence, my WIndows Installer is set up to run automatically in services, but it keeps stopping despite my re-starting it right before I attempt to download the NET Framework updates. I uninstalled the NET 1.1 and 2.0 that I already had on my computer and tried to reinstall them after downloading and running the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. I've unreg'd and reg'd Windows Installer. I attempted to run the WFP Scan and didn't know where I was going with that. I've read and read MS KB articles to a point where I am tired and thinking I might make things worse. I thought about uninstalling Windows Installer and re-installing and then it warns me that all sorts of programs, like every one, may not run, so I didn't go there.

So, I hope the above paragraph explains thoroughly what I've done, not done and what my issue is. Or not...so let me know what more info you need to assess. I'm perplexed and could use someone's help. Below is my HijackThis log and the #023's are shady items I know, but your advice as to what... Read more

Hi,

I came back to this forum because last time I had an issue people were very helpful and solved my problem.

My problem now seems to have started when a usual update tried to occur overnight on around the 22nd December.

I noticed that windows did not update and got the error code 80070643 windows has encountered an unknown error.

After trying a few things I decided to reset my laptop (Acer aspire 5741-A) with a back up being kept at C drive/ backup.

That didn't work and since then I did some digging and it looked like there was an error with .NET framework. I can't uninstall or turn on version 3.5 on through Control Panel "Turn Windows features on or off" - so can't seem to fix this problem.

I have tried using the tool that repairs NET framework but that didn't work.
I have also tried the tool that removes individual or all versions but that doesn't work.

Also it the error means that I can't install Microsoft Essentials Security either.

Can anyone help or talk me through what they would do?

Thanks for looking.

Hello all. Preemptive thanks to whomever may end up helping me.

I recently decided to try and clean my hard drive up a little bit and deleted a few old unused programs using Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs. Mostly old video games and the like. After rebooting I seem to have deleted something more important, as I am now prompted at Desktop Initialization with this error message.

.NET Framework Initialization Error
Please set registry key
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramework\InstallRoot to point
to the .NET Framework install location

It also pops up when trying to run certain applications, like Borderlands 2 or XCOM Enemy Within. I've only encountered it with these games but I'm sure there are other non-game applications that will give me this prompt down the road too.

Control Panel tells me that I currently have .NET Framework 4.5.1 installed, and I'm running Windows 7 so I believe that means that .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5 are also baked into the OS delivery.

Running CCleaners registry scan tool shows 12 Missing Shared DLL's in the C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705 folder under the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls keys.

I've tried repairing the 4.5.1 install via the Control Panel command, and also tried running the .NET Framework Repair Tool provided by Microsoft. Neither attempts have helped. I know that having multiple versions of Java installed is discouraged. Is the same true for .NET Framework?

A:.NET Framework

No...in fact, many users don't need any version installed.

NET 2.0 is part of every system sold as MCE...any other version of MS.NET must be called for by a given application.

Some drivers...some games...some other apps...all may require a given version, with none requiring anything earlier than 2.0. Each of these will tell the user...what version of MS.NET it needs/requires. Various MS suites/apps will install the needed version pertaining to its functioning properly (Visual Basic family, for examplle) while MS Office does not necessarily go that route. The install directions for some apps will indicate what version is needed...I don't game, but i suspect that games also do that.

I don't have a version installed on one of my systems...I have 3.5 SP1 and 4 installed on the other (I only need one but I installed the other just as a trial and failed to remove it).

If the game/program/drivers kicks out a popup saying that a given version is needed, then install that version.

Hey guys how do you enable .net framework? I see were you can turn it on but the box is blue instead of enabling me to check it under control panel, programs, turn windows features on, etc.

A:.NET Framework

Hello Fantom,

A blue box indicates that you have the main feature selected and turned on, but not all of the subfeatures under the expanded main feature are checked. If the box is checked for the main feature, then it means that all of the subfeatures under the expanded main feature are checked and turned on as well.

You would just need to check the two boxes under it before the blue box becomes checked, if you wanted to turn on all of the subfeatures.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Are there any issues with installing this on my PC? I tried it once and it either made my trojan or AV scanner go nutty, can't recall which, but I no longer use either of those scanners.

A:.NET framework

There shouldn't be any problem installing it. Is there some other application that you're trying to install that needs .NET Framework? If so which version?

hello all,im trying to download the net frame work 3.0 from the windows update, the download keeps saying download failed, check your recent downloads, all i have is net framework 1.0 1.1 framework 2.0,do i really need this?

A:net framework 3.0

I would suggest you not to worry much about this update for now unless you have applications in Windows which specifically require you to have the framework 3 installed. Some applications do indeed run best with a certain framework installed but if everything is running fine as it is then I wouldn't worry about it that much.

Hello, everyone.

I just found this suite for C++/GUI framework yesterday, and I began testing it out. I was wondering if any of you have happened to hear of it or if any of you have used it.

The suite is called Ultimate++ (U++) and it can be found here:
http://upp.sourceforge.net/

It seems to have a lot of interesting implementations, and after learning how to use the included IDE it seemed to work very well. It's just something I am testing out until I can get funding to purchase the wxWidgets book which was released last year.

Any experiences or opinions on this development suite/framework?

Take care, everyone.

Hi, I have to use turbotax, which was working, but now is not launching. I narrowed the problem down to the framework 2.0 which for some reason won'r lwt mew unistall it or fix it. I know it is corrupt, but I can't fix it. Can anyone help? I have tried what Microsoft has said to do, but it still doesn't seem to work. Thanks for any help. I have windows xp. Oh, I can't even update to 3.0 either.

[FONT=Symbol][COLOR=blue]Hi there: I have in the past refused to accept .net framework as an update, or when it arrives have add/removed. ( reason- because I hate logging in on my machine, and I prefer to look at a wallpaper rather than a windows login screen.)Why is .Net Framework necessary, and which one should I be using if so? It is no longer on the Windows update site, so I have to go to elsewhere in MS to get it, and there seems to be many choices there of Net framework. It comes with my HP all in one ( on disc).Do I need it? Why? Which? and if so- can I get around the mandatory log-in screen then?------ Thanks for any help here, this thing makes me nuts, Joey!

A:.net framework

ah come -on somebody must know what this application is for, much less the one i should be using! I have no idea if I need it or what. I've read all i can find in MS's newsgroups and am really getting nowhere. You guys here usually explain things better. Please help me. Joey

Microsoft .net framework 1.1 is used by several applications on my PC with no problems. Recently one of applications developed a problem that diagnosed as a problem with . net framework 1.1 I thought I would just uninstall it and then reinstall it. When I attempt to uninstall it Window installer gives me message "The installation source for this application is not available. Verify that this source is available and that you can access it." I have found a couple of Microsoft articles about repairing .net framework, but they did not work. Help!

A:.net Framework 1.1

1) Have you tried to download and force an installation of the .Net framework? This may recreate the uninstall information for you.

2) Have you considered upgrading to the .Net 2.0 framework? This may overcome the issues with v1.1

I know its a common problem but my net framework 2.0 is corrupt.

In cmd prompt as admin, ran command " sfc /scansfc" showed 2.0 was corrupt.

Is there anyway to repair 2.0 or uninstall it on vista home prem.

I tried to put in my cd to repair windows but I ended up almost reinstalling windows. How do I do a repair install?

A:Framework 2.0

One suggestion, try and download the http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en .Net 2.0 and run the installation see if it is able to repair r not..

also please run Windows update for Vista, Click the Start button, click All Programs, and then click Windows Update

Vista doesnt come in CD, as Retail Versions only come in DVDs so are you sure that you have the right Installation source ??
