So a couple of weeks ago or so I installed ie10 manually. All fine and good and works well. Today ofc ie 10 comes in windows update so I figure its an update or something and install it. When I reboot its again in windows update even though I installed it already. Also in 'Installed updates' 2 entrances show with ie10. I dont really foresee a huge problem with this but Im still wondering if you have any ideas on how to fix it?

A:Ie 10 installed manually, still shows up in WU and wont go away

Hi Conditioned, uninstall it then let WU replace it or try it manually again like this:- Attachment 259099

Greets Everyone.
Thank you for the incredibly helpful forum!!

I have a weird issue that has cropped up with my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I decided to upgrade the version of my Scite and there were no options for installing it. I simply unzipped the archive and copied it to a new folder in my Program Files (x86) folder. I then renamed my old winscite to bust the links, keeping it in case something went wrong, and created new desktop, startmenu, and taskbar links to the new version.

The application opens up just fine, and works just fine. But when I want to use it to open specific file types/extensions, I cannot use it. I tried right clicking on a file, say a PHP file, and then chose Open with.../Choose default program from the right click context menu in Windows Explorer, and of course, Scite is not listed in the recommended programs options. I expand "OTHER" and still do not see it, of course. So I clicked BROWSE, navigate to the new scite, and double click it. This is where the weird stuff starts. The browse dialog box closes, yet scite is not an option still. Nothing changes actually.

Scite is not listed as a default program, and I cannot add the new scite as one. I have no idea how I can tell Windows that I want to open the new scite with ANY file type.

Is there a registry modification I need to perform? How do I remove ALL options/recommended apps associated with a file type? Then maybe when I double click that file type, I can tell Windows where to find s... Read more

Hi:

This is for my new DT (the laptop is offline at the moment, but I assume it will be the same story).

Issue: I am being offered KB 2753842 via auto updates on my new Win7/64 DT, even though it was already installed with Patch Tuesday earlier this month.
(I have auto updates set to "notify".)

I understand that some systems ended up with broken fonts (and worse!) after KB 2753842 was installed with the December Patch Tuesday load.
Many folks uninstalled it & some had to roll back their systems, etc.
I did not.
In fact, I was in the process of setting up a new Dell DT system around the time it was released.
So, it was among the many patches needed to update the new rig.
It went in fine (before I knew that it was potentially problematic) and it seems to be causing no issues.
It is still listed as an installed update.

So, I'm a little nervous to reinstall it on my new, clean system ("if it ain't broke don't fix it"), especially since I've heard horror stories about BSOD and needing to roll back to RPs, and since it's already listed as installed.

OTOH, it's a security patch. So, I'm likewise reluctant to hide or ignore it.

Questions:
1. Is this some sort of "patch for a patch"?
2. Is it safe to (re)install on a system that already lists it as installed?
3. Does it require a reboot?

A:KB 2753842: being offered again even though already installed

I installed the KB 2753842 patch on top of the KB 2753842 patch installed for Patch Tuesday.
I had to reboot.
No problems here on this Win 7 32 Bit OS.

I bought an Asus N550LF-CM115H two months ago and replaced the HDD with as SSD in order to maximize performance.

The laptop has incredible start-up times, showing that the SSD is most definitely the drive on which the system is running, and can open programs pretty quickly. However the general performance of the computer is buggy. For example, while typing this, the letters are noticably coming up several split seconds after typing them. It has great trouble running web browers (I've tried Chrome, Firefox and Explorer) without eventually having a script fail or the browser become unresponsive.

It's usable, and occasionaly the performance is very good, but there is definitely something wrong somewhere. Any tests I can run to check where? Any ideas on what the problem might be? Any ideas on how I could go about fixing this?

Thanks a lot.

A:New laptop running on a manually-installed SSD is buggy

That could be anything and may have nothing to do with the SSD. For starters I would run a sfc /scannow

Hi! I registered here as I'm at my wit's end with this...

I performed a fresh install of Windows 8.1 and immediately went to check updates. The main reason being that I'm unable to play certain games until my system is up to date... and because of the Windows 10 incentive.

However, I am constantly faced with this screen...
...and once those updates are chosen to install, I am told that they have installed, yet do not appear on my list of installed updates. They also reappear if I search for updates again.

Edit: I also have no other updates on my installed list..

I have manually tried patching up to these updates using the following...

..but they all return the same error. "This update is not applicable to your computer".

I am unbelievably frustrated by this and have been up all night trying every solution I can find.

Huge thanks in advance to anyone who is able to help.

Co-worker wanted me to look at her computer to fix some problems. I found virus(es) had hijacked ie. I tried malwarebytes, etc. and switched to firefox and tried to run windows update but endless search yielded no updates.

I reinstalled the OS from original disk -- Vista Home Basic 32-bit.

I manually installed SP1. I then manually installed SP2. Tried updates again. Forever looking and no updates.

Could someone outline my next moves to be done to head towards a fix for this updating problem? I would appreciate it. I see that there posts with similar problems and I am not sure which ones I should try or do I need to do something else before I start manually downloading updates?

Thanks,
Don

Hey, it's me again.
Okay, I've just thrown NAV Corporate onto one of our servers, our BDC as a matter of fact.(kind of limited here)
After installing it, whenever I reboot the computer, it automatically logs in, it bypasses the whole name and password bit completely.
Does anyone know if NAV messes with NT's logon? If so, I'm happy. Otherwise if this is some sorta hack job or something, I'm gonna burn this building down.
I'm gonna check with NAV too, but this place seems SO much faster than any other one out there, and you guys are just so smart. I tell ya, if it wasn't for this place, I'd be beggin to flip burgers right now.

I have several Type 1 fonts that I installed manually and now want to uninstall. When attempting to delete through the Control Panel route to Fonts, the error message is that the fonts are in use and cannot be deleted. No programs are open. When attempting to delete or change permissions through the CMD window, the error message is access denied. When attempting to change the read/write permissions on the Fonts folder, and clicking ignore on the many system fonts that Windows installs by default, I still cannot get access to these three fonts. Interestingly, this r/w permissions approached worked several days ago for several other Type 1 fonts that I installed manually.

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

A:{Advice Offered} - Win2K will not load after application is installed

Greetings

Well... first off, it would have been nice to know which application you tried to install. Even if it's "Farmer's Weekly Nude Farm Animal Calander Screen saver" it is useful to us to know that kind of information.

But, even flying blind, I have an idea what you can do:

1) Boot up
2) Press F8 to get to the boot menu
3) Select the Last Known Good option
4) If you get into Win2K, uninstall the program.

(And yes the friend is really and friend and not me),
Thanks.

A:{Advice Offered} - Win2000 installed with dual boot to win98

Greetings

OK... go to:
http://www.xperts.co.za/reuel/multiboot

There, you will see a disc icon with the title "Reuel Boot". Download this file, run it, and it will create a boot floppy.

Boot off the disc, and choose option 4 on the main menu. Then, one the second menu, choose option 3, to rewrite the Master Boot record as a Win98 master boot record.

Now, reboot your machine and see that it goes into Win98 straight away. If it does, then you can delete Win2K completely.

You do this by deleteing the WINNT directory, and the following files on the c: drive:

Boot.ini
Bootsect.dos
NTLDR
Ntloader.exe

Though, personally, I would dump Win98 and keep Win2k. But then again, I prefer better Operating Systems.

I do a lot of work on customer machines at a computer shop, and one of the most frustrating issues I run into is when I run SFC on a computer and it reports that it found errors and was unable to fix them.

Originally I intended to write a program to automatically pull the [SR] reported files from the installation media and replace the broken ones on the system, however, when I run the command from the tutorial:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

After an unsuccessful SFC attempt, even when it reports files that could not be fixed, I never turn up anything, anyone know why I don't get the [SR] tags in my CBS.log?

A:How to Manually Do SFC's Job?

Hello Virucyde, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You could use OPTION THREE in the tutorial below to get a sfcdetails.txt file with the [SR] details. If you like, upload this file here afterwards, and I'll be happy to take a look at it to see what could not be fixed.

I'm really in need of a motherboard upgrade, but until then....

I'm running XP Sp3; I have an An ASUS P4S333. this mainboard came out just before USB2.0. As luck would have it, today I'm in need of USB 2.0 (or better..LOL)

I need to change the IRQ assigned to a specialize audio audio card. It must sit on it's own, and currently it's sharing 16. I cannot unselect "Use Automatuc Setting" in Devmgmt to allow me to do this. I am logged in as administrator.

I have spent most of the morning moving cards around to try and resolve this, to no avail. I have also tried within the BIOS to force IRQ's to specific PCI slots, again with no success. The best I've been able to do is get the audio card off of IRQ18 to IRQ 16. In both scenarios, the IRQ is shared with something else. I have 6 PCI slots and 1 AGP slot. At the moment, after shuffling the PCIcard deck, AGP is occupied as are PCI 1,2,4, and 6. 1 and 5 are paired, as are 2 and 6.

A couple of suggestions for configuring this motherboard would be greatly appreciated.

First off, I'm plugged into a battery backup power supply. (I don't know if that's related or not.)

Also, I think my Windows Update may have something to do with it as well. The last couple times it's happened the yellow Windows Update icon popped up in my taskbar. I put off downloading the update because I didn't want to restart my PC. I woke up this morning and my PC was restarted without me doing so.

I seriously doubt it's a heat problem. My temps are moderate.

Is it possible that it's actually something that I can change by going into my Control panel and changing settings?

So GMAbooster is supposed to be a program that can speed up your graphics for better performance, but i have a Toshiba Satallite c655-s5132 that has a Intel GMA x4500 but GMAbooster hasn't released one for that yet (but yet the show it on the download page) they say they plan to release it but i don't know when and how long its been sence the said they planned on releasing it.

So my question is:

Can you do the samething the GMAbooster does but manually?
I mean i play this one game Combat Arms, the computer i use it just about good to play on Combat arms but when the room is full (16 players max) the game slows down and it hard to play, or when i get a gun fight with one person it slows down abit but enough to affect my skills.

A:Can i manually do what the GMAbooster does?

The short answer? Yes. Anything that software can do to your computer you should be able to do manually. However, if your device is under warranty, using that software, or doing anything it can do manually would almost certainly void it.

I'm not an expert on this sort of thing though, so for actually accomplishing it you would have to ask someone else. I'm sorry if my answer is a bit less than helpful, but I don't want to provide any in-accurate information and potentially cause you to harm your computer.

Have you done a registry search?

Go to Start > Run, and type:

regedit

Look under Edit for the Find entry. Enter a search term that is specific to that program, like the program's name, or even the manufacturer if that is the only program you have from that company. Remove the entries that refer specifically to that program. Be careful not to remove entried that are not specific to that program. If the name has the word "system" in it, for example, you obviously should not delete all entries containing that word.

Use F3 to continue the search after each find.

Is the program still in Add/Remove?
Have you deleted the folder from Program Files?

Another thing you could try is a safe registry cleaner:

Regcleaner 4.3.0.780

Tools > Registry Cleanup > Do Them All. And then remove all the found entries.

I have a Toshiba laptop running Win 7 32bit. It was current on updates until July 2015. Then WU went crazy hijacked my cpu & kept trying to download Win 10. I know alot of people were having similar problems. Anyway its been worked on remotely by 2 different techs and I've spent most of the last 4 weekends researching and trying different fixes and nothing has helped. I think WU is completely screwed up now.

I just want to find and install the updates that I need from last July until now. I've tried MS catalog also the download pages at MS website but I can't seem to get the information I need. I read about a program called Belarc that among other things can tell what updates a system is missing. Has anyone used it for that purpose? Are there better programs? I really don't want to go thru 120+ pages of downloads at MS and try to pick out all the ones that I need. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have just completed a recovery on an HP desktop. Started checking for updates and as we all know that takes a really long time (24+ hours). In my system properties it says 7 Home Premium and SP1. In the installed updates screen it says there are 12 updates only that date back to 6-7-2011.

How can I know that SP1 is actually installed?

If it is not actually installed, would it be best to manually download and install? Would this help with the time it takes to search for updates?

A:Manually install SP1?

Go to Control Panel/System

Look under "Windows Edition" at that location. If SP1 is installed, it should say "Service Pack 1".

It's downloadable as an ISO.

The 64 bit English version is named windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe

It's 903 MB in size. I'd guess you can find it and download it with a Google search. That's what I'd try to do if I knew it was not already installed.

If by "recovery", you mean some sort of restore to factory condition using an HP partition or menus and applications, I'd assume you have SP1 if the machine shipped with SP1.

Hello everybody. I need your help. My computer is Dell Optiplex 780, OS Win 7 64 bit. I have to install SpyderPro, Color Correct your Monitor from Pantone ColorVision. This old device worked excellent for me for more than 10 years with windows XP, Vista and now I try to install on Win 7. Company never releaced any update for this device, they only develop new devices. I am retired now and can?t spend $200 to buy a new one. So, I installed software from CD with no any problem, connect sensor to USB input and received message: ? Error 2(Spyder USB.cpp 126 the system cannot find the file specified?. I searched internet for this error and found answers: In windows get lost or corrupted some Dll file. Each site sagest download special software which cost money. I don?t trust these sites, there are hundreds of them and result is unpredictable and most of it have virus.
Is it possible to fix this error manually?
Any advice will be deeply appreciated.

Reading and searching for information about defragmenting has only caused me more confusion. I have been reading a lot about Win 7 automatic defrag etc. My old Vista PC has also an option where you set up a schedule for automatic defragmenting, so I don't see how Win 7 is different in that aspect...

I have built this gaming PC just a month ago. I have looked at the defrag schedule for both my boot drive and other drive and twice I have seen the boot drive say 4% defrag. Other times, it always shows as 0%.

- What does the above mean?
- I have the defrag set to a monthly schedule for 1st day of the month at midnight. Will I have to leave my PC fully powered on for this to take effect?
- Some people say defragging is not necessary for modern hard drives any more. So is it or is it not?
- I do have about 50GB of data on the boot drive (Velociraptor) and 500 GB of pictures, movies, music, games on the other drive. Is it necessary to defrag them?
- Should I do this manually because my computer is not always on during the "scheduled" defrag time?

Thank you.

A:Should I defrag manually or not

Windows 7 is a way more efficient running OS than the old XP or Vista.
I have Perfect Disk 12.5 and every time I'm curious to how defraged my drives are and analyze them they are @ 1% defraged but I still defrag every so often just for chits and giggles cause the system doesn't need to be defraged I just do it cause I started the program and may as well use it.
Having scheduled defrags is not neccessary IMO on a win7 machine

Could somone tell me how to delete all the files manually? (Really, all i need to know is where i can find them)

It's probably in the registry somewhere....download a registry cleaner. Registryfix is a good registry cleaner try that out but it doesnt work on 64-bit versions of windows..

New to this forum so bear with me, I'm just desperate for help! I bought a laptop off of craigslist today because I was in desperate need of one seeing as my desktop has died. Only thing is I had no idea XP was no longer supported with many things. Is there a way to update it? It's in pretty good shape, just old. I tried to update the biois on the dell website but apparently the battery doesn't hold a charge well and it keeps telling me to charge it (It's on the charger but still not working.)The specs aren't so great from what I understand, Not fun going from my alienware to this, but I'm broke and can't afford anything else. Is there any hope for this to become a better machine?Microsoft Windows XP Home EditionVersion 2002 Service pack 3Intel(R) Celeron(R)MProcessor 1.40GHz0.99GB of RAMThanks in advance!

A:How to manually update my XP?

If you just run Windows update as normal you will get all the updates that are available for XP.  Not being in support just means that Microsoft will not be making any more updates, existing ones will still download. As far as making it better, I can't really think of anything unfortunately.  It's certainly not worth the cost of a more modern OS and that CPU will be a major limitation despite any upgrades you try.Of course, you can always create a thread on this forum about why your desktop "died" - We may be able to help you get that up and running again.

hi peoples

i have installed my media centre for the 3rd time in a month. Due to various issues. (1 being sleep) Now i have installed the same drivers as the first build for HDMI audio and video, which i had perfect dvd playback and tv on, however i am faced with errors about video drivers not properly installed.

Last time it was the HDMI driver which i have installed and reinstalled 3 times. It seems every time i follow the exact same process at rebuilding vista 64 i get a different result.

Is there a way you can reset media centre so it checks the drivers all over again. I am interested in resetting audio and video if possible

A:Vista x64 media centre video drivers not installed or installed incorrectly

Hi, audiophile, and welcome to the forums.

It would help to know your Graphics card and setup - I have installed Vista Ultimate x64 twice - once for testing, and then a format and reinstall as I changed the partition setup - since then (2 months now) I have not had a single issue with WiMP / WMC.

XPS13 with Windows 10.  See screen shot below.  Dell Support Assist program says the two driver updates are recommended.  clicking "install" it shows progress to install, then says installed, but on refresh or re-entry to the program it still shows them as needing to be installed.  No errors generated.  Other driver updates done the same way without issue.  Suggestions?

A:Dell SupportAssist - says driver updates are installed but still showing need to be installed after refresh?

Don't use Dell Support assist with windows 10. Windows 10 will install generic drivers if Dell doesn't have win 10 drivers. You should mention the full model name of the computer. Does Dell support your model for upgrading to win 10? If so, get the win 10 drivers from Dell Drivers and Downloads.

Hello, and thanks in advance for your time!Earlier this afternoon, I noticed that the sound on my Thinkpad W510 was no longer working. I hadn't really done anything of note with my computer- just updated Adobe Reader to v9.2, that I can think of. When I checked the notification area, I saw this:However, when I right click and click "Playback Devices", I get the following: I immediately checked Device Manager, and found that everything appeared to be fine:I tried uninstalled and reinstalling the Conexant and NVIDIA drivers, as well as updating BIOS. Nothing seems to help, When try to use the mute/volume buttons on the keyboard, the speaker mute button lights up when pressed, but the microphone mute and volume +/- buttons don't appear to do anything. I've also tried plugging in headphones, and that does not make any difference. When I boot from an Ubuntu CD, however, sound works fine, so I don't think that it's a hardware issue.Anything that you folks could do to point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. A virus or something hit my Compaq computer. I have Windows XP and Norton Anti-virus. Norton was in the process of blocking the virus when the system froze up completey and a re-boot was the only option. Some of the XP start up files were corrupted or deleted or something, so that Windows XP will no longer start properly. The welcome screen comes up fine, but the desktop is now just a completely blank blue screen, no error messages, no icons, no start menu, task bar....nothing. So I cannot open any programs or do anything except CNTRL ALT DEL to shut down or restart. I tried to do a restore in safe mode - didn't work. Then I tried to re-install XP in repair mode, and I kept getting error messages that certain (multiple) files could not be copied. In the end, the repair installation was unsuccessful. So, I did a complete new install of Windows XP to a new folder (c:\windows2). This install worked fine. Now there are 2 versions of XP on my computer and when I boot up I have to choose which one to use. My question is regarding the programs that were already installed, such as MS Office, Norton Anti-Virus, Family Tree Maker etc. How do I get the newly installed XP to recognize these programs which were previously used by the now dysfunctional XP? When the new XP starts and I click on programs, none of the programs installed on the computer are listed. How do I pull them in to the new XP? Good day everyone

I am a server and network administrator for a very tiny firm for a year odd already.

We have 1 Domain Controller server, 1 Backup (running acronis management console) and Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.5 server, and 3 other application server - all are having static manually configured IP addresses.

However during one of our recent application server reboot, it pop out an alert stating there is a conflict with some others on the network. I have checked through all the machines and have ensured all are having different ip address.

I proceeded to check the Event Viewer for more information, and it showed a particular machine having certain Ethernet Mac address causing the conflict. I went on to individual machine and fired up the CMD, and issued 'getmac /v' to get it's ethernet mac address and found the culprit - let's call this 'Server G'.

I went into 'Server G' Network Connection > LAN settings > TCP/IP to change the IP address. To my surprise, the IP address is showing the correct address intended for 'Server G' - I have also ensured no other machines having the same ip address. No mistake - on 'Server G', I opened up the CMD, and check the ip address by 'ipconfig /all', and to my horror, it showed a different address than the one input into the LAN Settings TCP/IP windows.

What happened?

Anyone have a guide on how to do this? On my new laptop my GPU, mouse, and keyboard are on the same IRQ... Any ideas?

A:Manually setting IRQ in Windows 8?

HelloAs long as it is working fine and It should be, do not worry about it. Sharing IRQs is nothing new to windows. I am afraid that if you start tinkering with it, you will break it when it wasn't broken before. You need to trust the manufacturer in this case. This article for XP applies to newer operating systems too.In Windows, peripheral component interconnect (PCI) devices can share IRQs. In accordance with the Plug and Play capability that is defined by the PCI specification, adapters are configured by the computer BIOS and are then examined by the operating system and changed if necessary. Typically, PCI devices have IRQs shared among them, especially on Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) computers that have Windows ACPI support enabled. In Windows XP, Device Manager may list some or all the devices on your ACPI motherboard as using the same IRQ (IRQ 9). (To view the list of resources, click either Resources by type or Resources by connection on the View menu). No option is available to change the IRQ setting. Windows takes advantage of the ACPI features of the motherboard, including advanced PCI sharing. The PCI bus uses IRQ 9 for IRQ steering. With this feature, you can add more devices without IRQ conflicts.Windows XP cannot rebalance resources in the same way that Microsoft Windows 98 does.I haven't worried about IRQ conflicts since I moved up from Windows 98.This might help to understand a little bit better?Windows is limited to 16 physical IRQ... Is it possible to run File History manually at a time to suit. Ideally I would like to run it once a week, but find there is no option for that under the advanced settings.

I don't really want to keep the external drive I'm using for this connected to my PC all the time so am hoping I can turn off File History before closing down and then connect the external drive, turn File History on again when required and hope it will carry on doing an incremental backup of my files. (I do manually backup my files anyway, am looking at File History as an extra safety net)

Its rather frustrating that there is no progress bar so that you know how much of the task has been completed.

I'm not a computer tech so a simple explanation would be appreciated

There's an icon at the bottom right of my page which reads that, "Telus Security Services are loading now, please wait". The problem is I'm trying to do a System Restore and it keeps failing and it could be that my anti-virus or firewall is blocking this from happening. Hi all,

I have two network connections on my laptop - one wired and one wifi. Naturally, windows selects the wired connection as the default route (default interface) everytime. I am experimenting with finding a mechanism to select which interface to use without physically disconnecting one of them. Each NIC has a local static IP

wifi 192.168.1.11
wired 192.168.1.12

I've created a client/server app: the client(s) exists on the computer specified with the two NICs. The server is on a separate computer that is also on the home network but not the same machine. Basically, I am looking for a way to pick different routes for the clients - not necessarily load balancing but load choice I guess.

I believe I am going to have to use the 'route' command or the 'netsh' command, but every document I've read on them is pretty crappy or I just didn't understand them (I understand the conepts of routing/interfaces, etc). When I use the 'route' every time I get a response saying that interface does not exist but I am sure I am typing everything in correctly. Don't know what else to do...

Is it possible to find entrys to the registry that were made on a certain date, for example. (Am I wrong in my understanding that all the programs that clean the registry have to be installed before the specific software you're trying to clean out was installed?)

Now, although it reads SUCCESSFULLY, the same thing shows up every time I scan.

Some of the symptoms my computer has is, as an example, facebook....(one of the few things I know how to maneuver through) I go to my inbox, click on a post, and a new window opens up, showing a different letter than the one I clicked on, while keeping the old window open.

I assume this is a result of the virus.

Is it possible to change printer DPI to a custom number like 400dpi, or 450dpi? I want to save on ink costs, but also print decent looking pages.

Fast Draft is 300dpi / 300dpi
Normal is 600dpi / 600dpi

The 300dpi Fast Draft use to be ideal for me (on XP) and it looked great, but for whatever reason after I installed Windows 7 everything I print on Fast Draft is very poor quality. It is strange that it looks better if printed under XP as opposed to 7, when all the settings are identical.

Meanwhile, the 600dpi Normal is overkill for my needs. I print a lot everyday and I really need to save on ink costs. So, since Fast Draft is no longer good, can it be change to something like 400dpi? or 450dpi for that matter. Somewhere in the middle between Fast Draft and Normal.

How do I disable ports manually on XP home, 2000 Pro, and my NT4 server?
Thanks

A:How do I disable ports manually

You would either have to update to XP SP2 or install a 3rd party firewall that has that capability.

Instructions for disabling ports would likely come with the "manual" for the firewall. Instructions for SP2's firewall can be found here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/843090
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=875357&product=windowsxpsp2

Additionally, if these various systems are all networked through a router -- the use of one with a built in firewall can accomplish the same for all. But you will have to find the right router and read the manual.

I used to be able to select "sleep mode" from the "shut down menu" and it would power down and the Power LED would flash and to wake the computer, just a click of the mouse and it would wake and all the applications I had open before would load.
Now, I select sleep mode manually and the computer completely switches off after 2 flashes of the Power LED and a flash of blue screen BIOS on my screen which looks like an error or maybe drivers?
I have to switch the computer on again then with the Power Button and it asks me how I want to start Windows, as if it has shut down unexpectedly?
I have gone through every BIOS setting. I have changed the Suspend Mode from Auto to S3, but still the same. I have tried "ACPI 2 Support" from disabled to enabled, but still the same. I have tried "Repost Video on S3 Resume" from no to yes, but still the same.
I have tried all of the "Advanced Power Options" and all to no avail. "Sleep Mode" is enabled there.
I did alter one setting in BIOS before this problem occurred. I tried to configure my 2 x SATA Hard drives to AHCI instead of IDE. My hard drives are both SATA 3's and so they are connected to the faster ports on my ASUS P6X58D-E motherboard. However I found my DVD Burner was not found by my burning software when I had this option selected, so changed back to IDE again. I realise now that you have to download the AHCI drivers during installation of the Windows 7 operating syst... Read more

I got hit with the Virtumonde virus and managed to stabilize my system by using various tools and the fact that I caught it right away so could look for files with the current date for suspicious status. My system seems stable now except that TeaTimer (from HijackThis) crashes upon boot. I've uninstalled and reinstalled HJT with no improvement. I'm not too concerned about the crash yet, but would love if someone could review my status to see if I got all the critters out of the system.

Because Virtumonde creates so many randomly named dll files, it's difficult to get them all. I look up names in Google and if there is no hit on the web AND the date of creation is suspiciously aligned to infection dates, I risk deleting them. So far that's worked.

Could someone review a Combofix log for me to see if I'm 100% clean?

A few days ago, the internet at my house went down (A telephone line was hit by a tree branch), and when it returned, my computer no longer started up connected to the internet. Now, every time I turn my computer on, I have to disable my Home and Public Network, and run the troubleshooter to reconnect. (When I do this, it only connects to the Home Network, but it makes no difference in performance.)

I'm not sure what other background information you need for this, as I assume it's only a matter of adjusting settings. Still, I'd like to get it fixed. Any suggestions?

How do I determine subnet manually?

This is more of a question of how than what. Since there are calculators on how to do this on the internet.

If one has been assigned a Class B address (142.63.x.x), and you need to be able to designate up to 8,000 hosts per subnet. What subnet mask specification would allow for the most possible subnets?

How did you determine your subnet mask specification?

Also,

Excluding reserved addresses, how many addresses would be available for host assignment in each subnet? In total for all subnets?

What would be the last assignable address of the first subnet, and what would be first assignable address of the last subnet?

Hey,

Well on a normal day I turn my computer on, and it automatically connects to my wireless network and everything works fine. However, if I lose the connection (computer goes into standby and disconnects, ect) it wont reconnect automatically, so I have to go to the network and sharing center and try to reconnect. But when I try to reconnect it gives me an error saying:

"Wireless association failed because Windows did not recieve any response from the wireless router or access point"

If I restart my computer than it automatically connects and everything works great again.

My laptop has done this from day one and everything I've tried hasn't helped. This happens when I try to connect to other networks too, and other people have no problem connecting to my network.

Searching this site has had a lot of people saying to disable Ipv6, but that didn't do anything.

Hello, I'm interested in manually installing services.

Whenever I try to install the inf provided in the file, a error appears saying:
"The inf file you selected does not support this kind of installation"

And it's not a driver file, its a system file important for emulation of qemu, an acceleration module to be exact.

I took a look at the inf file, it only basically says copy to system dir, register service and register uninstall info in the registry.

So what do I do? Do I fix the inf file?

Anyways, if it's possible, I would like to try manually installing and uninstalling services.

Any help would be appreciated.

My HP pc is only a little over a year old. It's running 32-bit Vista Home. For no reason today while I was in Windows Explorer simply looking for a picture, it froze. NOT the mouse cursor, but everything else. So I did Ctrl-Alt-Delete and it brought me to that boot page where you have a choice of whether to click on task manager, log off, switch user, etc. So I clicked Task Manager but nothing happened. All the choices on that screen disappeared and I couldn't do ANYTHING. I tried pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete again but nothing happened. I had to restart manually. No info about the freeze came up. But everything seemed fine. Now it just happened again. Same thing happened. Anybody know what that's about?

Hi,I've posted before about my PC crashing constantly (a couple of months ago) and I thought we had fixed the problem with the driver updates, etc that I was told to do, but my machine is crashing worse than ever now.I have tried everything I can think of & am completely lost as to what to do to make it work. A friend told me to scan my system with RegCure & it shoed up the following items that apparently have errors.I didn't want to purchase the program though so I have no idea what they mean or how to fix them... or even if they are things that could be crashing my system. Also tried looking up the event viewer, but regardless of going through the tutorial on it, I am still finding it beyond confusing.Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

A:Pc Keeps Freezing & Has To Be Manually Re-booted

It was wise of you not to "fix" anything with RegCure as it is a registry cleaner. Unless you know exactly what you are doing you could cause programs to not work or even the operating system by using registry cleaners. The authors of registry cleaners have different ideas of what "shouldn't" be there, and they have no clue about what is actually on your computer. I manage to wreck my Adobe software by using one. Fortunately, I had backed up my registry and I was able to undo the damage. Can you post a link to your previous thread so we can see what was done? Also, please tell us what you have done since then.Orange Blossom

Good day.

A:want to be able to manually connect/disconnect lan

The closest thing I know of is to create a shortcut on the desktop for the Local Area Connection and then click on disable to disconnect from it. Once you want to connect again, you would just enable it. To do this, you would right click on your network icon on the lower right on your screen, click on open network and sharing center, then click on change adapter settings, then click and drag your LAN connection to your desktop. Again, there might be a better way to do this, but this is the easiest way, and simplest too.

I have my preferences set to look for new mail every 10 minutes. But, if I know someone is sending me an email, how do I manually look for it (other than closing mail and reopening it)? I went to Help, and here is what it says:

Check for new e-mail messages manually
<LI class=listItem>Start Mail.
In the Mail header bar, click the arrow next to Send/receive, and then do one of the following: To check for new e-mail messages in all of your e-mail accounts, click Receive all.

I do not see a Send/Receive in the Mail header bar, nor an arrow next to anything else that may lead me to Receive All. Is this outdated, or am I missing something?

A:How do I manually check for new mail?

I am assuming you are using Outlook/Outlook Express. If so there should be a send/receive button on top. If not go to View>toolbars> and make sure standard is checked. If not select it and the toolbar with send/receive will pop up.

Hi,

My question is as follows:
(System specs: see signature)

In Internet Explorer (V. 5.50.4807.2300) there is an inbuilt interface that theoretically should enable one to organize the links & the folders in one's 'faborites' folder as one's heart should desire. This thing sucks. I mean, it behaves like a lab rat on LSD.

I know I can move items into folders manually (by directly accessing the 'favorites' folder), but I don't seem to be able to organize items within folders manually.

So, how can that be accomplished?

A:Manually organizing favorites in IE5

Ya know, organizing Favorites in IE has always been a pain. The only thing I can offer is to just make the folders you want and drag and drop the links you want into them. Then move the folders around in the order you like them. It takes a little effort. I have seen some third party software that organizes links for you and even checks to see if the links still are valid. Do a GOOGLE and see what pops up.

So I have a 16 GB Cruzer USB and it's not connecting, recognizing, nothing. Usually, the usb stick lights up, but it's not even doing that.

I remember a couple of years ago I had this problem, I looked up a solution and was able to open the usb up by going through... aghh this is what I can't remember.

It's manually opening up the usb by going through some 'coding'-ish steps.

The screen I used to type in the coding was black, with white text.

I think I remember typing in dmnt.mgt (Not exactly it but kind of like that??)

Either way.. how can I open up my usb? :<

Please and thank you~

A:How do I 'manually' open up a usb folder?

well if you want that screen you are talking about just go to the search box in the start bar and type cmd then hit enter.

As for the specific steps you are talking about I'm afraid I've never seen those steps. The device should be lighting up even if the computer is not detecting it.

Hey guys,

For the past two days, when I leave my computer for some time, I come back and I see nothing but my desktop wallpaper. Usually I can't even see the mouse cursor, and it seems completely unresponsive. When I ctrl-alt-del, it just takes me to a black screen. I end up having to manually shut down my computer everytime. This happened about 4 times yesterday, and twice today. I haven't installed anything recently, I defrag once a week, and I run a full virus scan from AVG free once a week. I also did error checking but it came up clean. I just recently did a system restore, but I doubt it'll help and I'm out of ideas of what to try.

Anyone have a clue as to whats going on? This computer is about 4 months old, and I've never had a problem with it before.

Thanks!!

A:I have to start cds and dvds manually?

Have you checked the properties for your optical drives?

Also found the following info regarding this issue:
Download a diagnosis tool
I discovered a useful Microsoft download which detects if you have an autorun problem and repairs accordingly - the url is http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...-a171-1b389cfacdad&displaylang=en&Hash=LJ6SCR

or

Modify Registry Keys
Alternatively, check the following registry keys (via Start Menu -> Run -> Type "Regedit"):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom
To enable automatically running CD-ROMs, change the Autorun value to 1.

There are two other registry keys that can affect this functionality:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
NoDriveTypeAutoRun = 0x00000095

and

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
NoDriveTypeAutoRun = 0x00000095

The correct hex value to set for each of these 2 keys is 95 (0x00000095).

Restart your computer.
