Creative Driver Update Messes Up Mouse and Internet

Q: Creative Driver Update Messes Up Mouse and Internet

Hello all,

I installed the Creative X-Fi Audio Processor update (10/22/2009), and it completely messed up my computer (Windows 7 x64).

I accidentally installed this update while checking if I had new updates to install. Little did I know that it would cause me much grief. I rebooted the system so that the updates could finish, and when I saw my login screen things went bad. The screen resolution was all out of whack (800x600, while my regular resolution is 1920x1080). To make matters worse, the mouse won't move. When I logged in, I discovered the internet wouldn't work either. Soon, a popup window popped up, saying that "No ATI graphics driver is installed, or the ATI driver is not functioning properly. Please install the ATI driver appropriate for your ATI hardware." I went to the display settings (using only the keyboard) and discovered that my default resolution was no longer on the list. Dejected, I went on my other PC and downloaded the ATI driver pack for my video card on the crippled computer. I transfered it via flash drive to the crippled computer and installed it - rebooted, my resolution was back to normal, but the mouse and internet were still not working. I then transfered a Creative driver pack I got from the official site and put it on the flash drive and transferred it - no changes. I then used Guru3d's Driver Sweeper to get rid of the dregs of the Creative drivers, rebooted, nothing, and now my audio's dead too.

What's most depressing is that I'd installed this update a while ago, and discovered that this happened, and quickly did a system restore, and everything was okay. This time, for some reason, all my system restores failed and by the time I figured out they were corrupt or something, there were so many undo system restore points on the system restore screen that there were no more points from before the installation.
Last update before Creative driver installation: Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB91597 (4/12/2010).
No error codes from update - in fact it states it's successful.
Antivirus: ESET NOD32 (Norton I never activated)
Clean install of W7, computer came with it

Does anyone have any ideas to fix this horrid problem? Thanks very much in advance.

Yesterday's Firefox Update has changed my ability to drag intact one of my 275 SF links from Bookmark's tab into a post here.

Before I could drag the Bookmark title and edit it just like the other text, only it was in blue. Now it immediately converts it to the URL so that I can't edit the link title until it is posted. And the link title is no longer my custom title but the one originally given the webpage.

Is it possible to roll back this update and skip it altogether?

A:Firefox update messes up my SF links

Roll it back as in uninstall FF13 and go back to 12? I don't see why not, unless I'm missing something here.

HP Support Assistant had an update on 11/30/2015, random keys were affected by this. (w,a,s,d,r,Tab,etc.)

My keys won't work properly, I could press and hold w and it won't come active but when pressing it again a second later, it'll work.

my keys would also become active just by pressing it but not holding it as in, it would just spam a later after pressing it once, this applies to all of the keys i mentioned.

I can't determine whether its an update, process, services or anything.

Iv'e tried two system restores, even before 11/30 and I still have this problem.

I'll provide images of the updates and services:

These are the updates I removed +more added

here's all of the running services.

Hi, I have windows XP. Windows told me I have an update .
It installs okay, but when I reboot my PC, it gets as far as the scrolling graph and stays there. I then Have to do system restore from safe mode.
This makes my Pc work, but then there is no update installed. Is there any way to install this without it messing up my computer?

It has come to my Attention that windows 8.1 is a fish. A rotted , disgusting fish that messes things up. First it managed to crash my Laptop when i tried to revert. Now , I didn't update to windows 8.1 and now its sending my Laptop into what i call Operating System Limbo. What it's doing.

- Failing my Hardrives

Thats about it so far.. not too much ... yet . But i think it'll be progressively worse. My keyboard driver is
messed up.My keys go in and out all the time. There's just no winning here.

A:Windows 8.1 Update Messes with the screen?Why?

go to your mfg's website and download the win 8.1 drivers - not all 8 drivers work with 8.1, you will also to continue to get the 8.1 update nag screen until you update

or your hard drive is actually failing.. And needs to be replaced..

Since the last update came down, my browser jumps whenever I touch the mouse. I'll go to click on a link and the wrong url comes up because the browser, or mouse, jumped. This will also happen when I just touch the mouse. It mostly happens opening a new page. After 2 jumps, it settles down.

Is there a cure for this? Not a show stopper but very annoying.

A:Latest Update messes up Firefox

Maybe just coincidence, but the same thing happened to me; except it didn't end with Firefox.
My mouse was double-clicking all over the place! "Annoying" wasn't a strong enough word.

I tried a different mouse and the problem went away.
It's weird that my mouse should give up the ghost at the same time I install the SP1 update, but that seems to be what happened.

I upgraded Firefox to their latest version 4 beta 12; it now seems to handle most of my add-ons.
Probably didn't have to do that, but since the mouse wasn't that old it didn't occur to me to check it right off.

Don't know if this any help to you, but you might try it?

I need help on figuring out how to undo an update from HP Support Assistant.

This update screws with just about all of my keys.

Either of the keys will stop working as if I can't move in-game, my character would also move by itself without me holding anything. I could press tab to open up the scoreboard but doesn't come up the first time I press tab.

Iv'e tried two system restores and tried unistalling updates. I can't figure out if its an update or a process in the task manager

This update came up around 11:00 PM - 12:30 AM 11/30/2015, around midnight.

Windows update KB2847077
causes Media Player 12.07601.17514 to lose track of all settings and libraries

Double clicking on a video media - opens a first time window that asks to use recommended or custom settings.

(this is catastrophic for me as I use Media Player's DLNA connectivity)

This has happened twice to me - first from a standard Windows Update (yesterday 12/11/2013) - I had to do a system restore to before the update, then figured out that it was KB2847077 - so updated everything else except for KB2847077 - my PC and media player were just fine after the restart.

Last night for some reason that update was installed again, from one of my vulnerability scans (despite me specifically hiding it in Windows Update) - so this morning my Media Player was messed up again - did another system restore before that module update, and everything is back to normal again.

So yesterday automatic Windows update installed IE10, today I noticed that links in certain applications open in IE10 instead of my configured default browser, which every link from this or any other application used to open in before that update and the reboot that followed the update.
I checked the Default Programs section in the system control panel, expecting maybe Microsoft wanted to get themselves in any more trouble with the EU and changing the default to IE. This was not the case however, all the associations were still pointing to the configured default browser, I noticed however I could not uncheck the defaults already set.
So despite the obvious configuration being correct, links would still open in IE10 even after yet another reboot.
I went ahead and checked the registry associations, and found that http(s) protocol as well as htm(l) filetypes were associated with Internet Explorer with various EditFlags set (presumably to prevent changing them through the user interface, or to ignore the user interface settings).

Seriously Microsoft? Don't you have enough trouble yet?

I just recently got my laptop back from repairshop where they changed the HDD and CD/DVD-drive. I started up the computer, everything was fine, then I noticed I only had Windows XP SP1, but I had upgraded to SP2 a long time ago (which went very, very smoothly). Well, windows update start to fetch some other upgrades that were supposedly more important than SP2. So I update and upgrade until I get the SP2 on windows update. My laptop reboots and everything seems to be fine, until the internet browsers (IE7 and Firefox) become inactive. That is I only get blank pages and neither brower tries to load any website I try.
I uninstall SP2 and everything works perfect, install it again and the same problem occurs. I'm connected with a LAN cable into the wall (it's a connection through my universitys system), and I seem to be connected according to my "Local Area Connection" in the "Network Connections" folder. I check the ipconfig in cmd and all looks correct. According to everything I'm defenitely connected to the internet.
But I also noticed that the Security Center has been totally disabled. Can't even turn on Windows Firewall. I try WinsockFix (Utility to Replaced Damaged Winsock Values in System Registry), that doesn't work. I try "netsh winsock reset" in cmd, doesn't work. And I thought of updating drivers as a futile attempt at doing something clever.

Hey all. After I installed Windows Update KB938371 and restarted, my mouse ceased functioning. I have a generic Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard. The keyboard continued to work just fine, but not the mouse. Vista recognizes the mouse as a "HID-compliant mouse". My guess is that something happens to the drivers after the update. When I check the mouse properties after the update has been installed, it lists NO information about it or the drivers. I used system restore to bring the computer back to the point before I installed the update, and the mouse is working again. I have a large mp3/wma collection and I play the music with WMP10 and its library. Before adding new music to the library, I tag the files with the software "Tag&Rename" that gets music info from Amazon. Then the files are added to WMP10's library.

WMP is not allowed access to the internet because it would replace my beautiful Amazon tags with faulty crappy inaccurate CDDB infos. Also, all this database fetching stuff is disabled in WMP options.

I have recently discovered that even though WMP is blocked at several levels, it randomly changes the genres of some files to "Other" and then also loses custom ratings. The changes appear not only in WMP library but also in the mp3 tags as such.

I can workaround the problem by write-protecting the files but this is no solution. Microsoft has no right to fukk up my tags.

Do you experience the same?
Do you have a solution?
Do you have a recommendation for more professional and less faulty media player than WMP?

Thanks in advance,

Alright let's see.

How it happened:
I was updating my graphics drivers and my computer screen went blank and had a "_" cursor at the top left of my screen blinking. It stayed like that so I decided to hard reset it.

The Problem:
Now, whenever I try to boot into vista, I see the loading bar and everything and right when I'm supposed to me my log on screen, all I see is a black screen and a mouse cursor in the middle. Also, if I leave it for a very long time, the screen saver kicks in and I see the windows logo going from place to place. This also happens for all different types of safemodes and whatnot.

What I tried:
I went loaded the HD into an external case and deleted the C:\nvidia folder.
Windows DVD repair, wasn't sure what to select.
I also tried to use Driver cleaner with the HD connected to my laptop(didn't work since I can't select another drive than what I'm booted from) and Nasty File Remover (which I can select the external HD) but it didn't solve my problem.
Also tried removing the VGA card and booting it for a while, then turning it off and putting the card back in, didn't work. (Couldnt see what was happening, mobo doesnt have onboard VGA)

Interesting facts:
I have my HD split into 2 partitions, with an installation of vista on each. I booted into my second partition's vista just fine, so it has to be something in my vista installation.
The computer had been working fine with no modificat... Read more

I got hit by a weird virus recently that I'm still trying to clear things up... AVG didn't stop it

Anyway, maybe someone can give me a few tips/places to check to fix things back to normal.
All I have to work with is that it deleted "C:\Windows;" and "C:\Windows\system32" from my path variables--which made it difficult to check my ipconfig

I noticed that I had a problem when I started getting intermittent connectivity on my router. my cell-phone could get a perfect wireless connection and worked very speedily. My computer however kept disconnecting (it would say it was connected to the wireless network but I'd try to go into the router menu from my browser and it would clock for 5 min before giving up--the same thing goes for when I would try to go on a website). Occasionally, I'd randomly get internet again to load one page, but that was it.

Anyway, I figured the path thing out and now it doesn't do it as much but it still has trouble loading my homepage with ease (I'm using Chrome and I have yahoo as my homepage if the details are necessary) Going to google has the same trouble. And what I mean loads it very slowly but it claims it is still clocking even though everything on the page is loaded and it says "waiting for" &c.

Should I try to reinstall my browser? is there something I can download that can help with this? Should I double check to make sure AVG is working? What else can/should I do?

A:Hit by Virus: erased some path(s) and messes with internet connectivit

It wont have deleted your Windows folder or you wont be able to boot to Windows. What a lot of the modern viruses do is write the 'hide' attribute to the folders and files on your PC so that you cant use windows properly or use programs.

In this situation it is normally easier to re-install the OS.

If you would like to try and resolve it without a re-install then I would first un-hide the as many folders within the Crive as possible. Then try and go back to a working state by using System Restore. If this works, when the System is restored download Malwarebytes and run a full System Scan to make sure that the threat is gone.

I really would just re-install though as long as you have a backup of your data.

I was on my computer yesterday everything ok and all of the sudden the desktop froze and refreshed on it's own and a little while later I found that I had no sound so without thinking so much I went to Hp to download the only sound driver update I could find for my computer (HP media center m7060n desktop PC) and when I rebooted I noticed the sound on but when it came back on the mouse was frozen so I used my keyboard to open the internet and that was not on (modem working but the computer could not detect it). The driver from MS update is installed and I do have audio, however the Creative control panel will not work. When I try to start it, it says "no compatible device found" and then closes. Everything works great when I use Vista x64 but I can't seem to get it right on 7. I tried downloading the driver in the sticky but when I click download it sends me to another page. Anyone know how I can force the Ailenware driver to install or maybe another link to dl the driver in sticky? Or maybe a way to get the Control panel to recognize the device. I really only want the control panel for loudness equalization. Many of my MP3s have different degrees of loudness. Often, when it shuffles to a new song, the volume goes from decent to ear bleeding level and sometimes drops to barely audible. Any ideas welcome. Thanks.

I'm just about fed up with Creative Soundblaster drivers. I don't think I will ever buy another Soundblaster product again (at least not one that requires drivers).

I get lockups while listening to music (or if my sound card is in use somehow) while copying files. It's definitely the drivers.. My soundblaster doesn't even share an IRQ with another device let along have a conflict. When I uninstall the SBLive driver and use the basic XP one, it works fine again.

Straight to the point, my question is does anyone know of a site where I can download previous or beta/leaked versions of Creative Soundblaster Drivers? I thought I had my old ones that worked fine, but I realized I must have not had them backed up so the only drivers for Windows XP I have are the new, crappy ones.

Since this problem has existed, the only way around it has been to use the Windows XP drivers. These are the ONLY DRIVERS that have NEVER had this problem that I've used. Windows 2000 and Windows 98 all suffered from this locking up problem.

I just recently installed Creative's newest SBLive drivers for Windows XP and it's been a total bust. Since I've installed these d... Read more

First thing: If memory serves, Creative drivers do not do AC3 or DTS decoding under Vista. The hardware is capable, but they have restricted the drivers. There is a guy on the Creative Labs forums that has hacked drivers that re-enable these (and other) features under Vista. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

On to the 3 speaker problem: have you tried using the Vista controls for altering your speakers and volume and such? Start > Control Panel > Sound > Playback tab > select "Speakers" and click Configure. You should see 7.1 as an available option. Procede from there.

You can change volume levels by runing "sndvol.exe"

Yesterday Microsoft provided us with a roadmap essentially for the coming year with Windows 10 development. After watching for the full 2 hours, my overall impression was that Microsoft has set it's focus entirely on a very narrow marketplace: gamers and perhaps artistic talent. The two new devices, aimed at that audience, are very expensive.
I realize there is money to be made in this marketplace, but for how long ? How many people will spend $ 4,500 for an AIO desktop ? How many will spend $ 2,500 for a notebook ?
Trends at Microsoft have been away from consumers ( dropping the Win Phone, Band, Surface 3, and usefull software tools ), and not supportive of businesses ( who want a stable, error free, connected OS that will handle their operations applications reliably ).
I've been in the tech field ( as a developer of small business management systems ) since 1982, all PC based. Are my perceptions wrong ? Did I miss something yesterday ? Is this really the road to further greatness for Microsoft ? Please ... no snarky responses. This is a legit question and I'd love to hear your perceptions.

Eh, I guess I'm still going to stay on 8.1.
Anyways, I believe Microsoft isn't on the best course. It's not a bad one, but I don't like it and I think we're only going to see more glimpses of cool stuff like this countered with them kneecapping something else. I'm tempted to say I want Ballmer back in some way.
To be fair, the Studio is probably going to be a hit in the professional art arena for a while. My parents aren't getting it of course but I think it struck a good balance of being pre-built, a company supported device, and the display for designers and other people where that kind of stuff is their livelihood. I'm talking art people who are part of an organization with its own IT department.
As for the Book, I don't know. It does tick boxes but not my cup of tea.

A:Can't install Creative X-Fi Audio driver

PCI or PCI-E? In either case if you haven't (and can), try it in another slot.

BTW if you really want a X-Fi you might want to consider returning that one and getting at least the Xtreme Gamer, as th only thing even remotely X-Fi like about the Xtreme Audio is its name,

X-Fi Xtreme Audio

The entry-level model of the X-Fi series, the Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio, does not actually have the EMU20K1 chip but is a re-branded Audigy SE, using the same family of chips (CA0106-WBTLF), and even the same drivers.[8] Thus, not only is all of the X-Fi?related processing performed in software, but it also lacks basic hardware acceleration just like the SB Live! 24-bit, the Audigy SE and other budget Soundblaster models. The X-Fi Xtreme Audio does not use the same drivers as the rest of the X-Fi family, some games do not recognize it as being "X-Fi capable hardware", and the device's hardware profile resembles that of older Live! and Audigy cards.
Furthermore, users have reported that it slows down some applications and games, and that rear sound in games (all) is muffled and of profoundly low quality.[15][16][17] Thus, even if the card is marketed as part of the X-Fi line, it does not belong to it technically, just like the Audigy SE doesn't technically belong to the Sound Blaster Audigy series. The card is not marketed as supporting the "X-Fi Gaming Mode" (but is still marketed as "X-Fi"), and there are no official implicit or... Read more

I had my wife update her Toshiba notebook to the latest driver and now I can't connect to the internet. I can connect to my network and it shows connectivity....but I can't get to the internet. I'm posting this on my notebook so I know the internet, my modem, and router are fine. I've even rolled back to the old driver and it won't connect that way either. I've even tried to restore from the point of when it was installed and it won't work.

I am seriously at a loss. The notebook has the Atheros AR5006EG and the supposedly NEW driver is and the old driver is something close to 7.1.something

And she's running Vista Home Pre. And not happy.

Why is it reading the network but not connecting me to the interent, even after I've tried to repair, etc...? Please help for my life!

Update: I have restored the system to before the driver update and it's still not working. I have temporarily given her a backup linksys wireless card and it's working.

I recently did a fresh install of Windows 95b on an old machine and the sound card didn't install. Its a Creative Labs 3D Sound Blaster VLB (not PCI) card. I'm having trouble finding a driver for this card. In google I got a few hits, mainly this one from

but none of them work for some reason. When I click on the download link a window pops up that doesn't load any page and there's no "if your download didn't start click here" or anything. Does any one know where I can find the driver I need? Thanks.

A:Win95 VLB driver: Creative Labs 3D Blaster

I don't know where you can find a driver; but, may I make a suggestion. If you could find a way to get 64 Megs of RAM into that machine and load Windows 98, you would like the improvements in the OS. Also, the driver for many SB cards are built into Windows 98.

Win98 will run okay on 32 Megs; but, 64- will give better performance.

If you try my suggestion, I suggest also you do a clean install as opposed to an upgrade. Upgrading the current OS from '95 to '98 will frequently cause driver problems, which you already have problems there.

Ever since I had to re-install Windows XP, my video card hasn't been performing as well as it used to. Any graphics-heavy games or even screensavers just run terribly. I have an nVIDIA RIVA TNT2/TNT2 PRO, and I've read online that the Creative Labs RIVA TNT2 driver ver. 44.04 for XP should be the latest and best driver available for it (my current driver is the 44.03 driver from nVIDIA's driver page). Note that the 44.03 driver is an .exe file, whereas the 44.04 driver from Creative comes in .zip form, forcing a manual installation...

Anyway, I went to run the Hardware Update Wizard so I could point it to my newly extracted 44.04 driver files and update the driver. My steps were as follows:

1. Display Properties
2. Settings
3. Advanced
4. Adapter
5. Properties
6. Driver
7. Update Driver
8. "Install from a list or specific location" (next)
9. "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install." (next)
10. Have Disk...
11. Browse... (then I point to the folder where I have extracted the driver files, and click OK)
12. Next
13. A window comes up telling me the driver is not Windows Logo verified. I've read that this is supposed to happen. I click "Continue Anyway".

At this point, things seem to be going well, until I get this message:

I have been trying to get my sound card (Creative X-FI SB0460) to work under windows 7 x64, i have followed both a standard method of installation and the "Have disk" installation both failed, the "have disk" method reports it found driver but encountered an error then, fails with a "code 10" error, "the device cannot start".

It has identified my device as "creative x-fi audio processor(WDM)" rather than just "multimedia audio device", but not installed and drivers.

I have followed others advice in these forums but still cannot get it working, if this is a "terminal" issue and cannot be resolved can you please suggest alternatives sound cards for under $60/?30 please.

Also, why do manufactorers continue to do this? drivers have been a particular issue with the increase in componenets being released, but why does microsoft not kick up a fuss about the issue of driver compatability..... just seems to make microsoft and (creative etc) look incompetant and a lack of willingness to suport legacy and bespoke devices. why isnt this dealt with under windows update?

It also continues to inflate the ego's of all the apple products which just seem to work with new hardware.

A:Creative Sound card driver issue

First, your logic is flawed. It's not Microsoft's responsibility to work with whatever hardware, it's the hardware vendor's responsibility to work with the Operating System. Microsoft gives vendors years to bring their hardware and drivers up to be compatible with new technology systems. At one time Microsoft designed their Operating Systems to be backward compatible with old hardware/software. That is no longer the case.

"It has identified my device as "creative x-fi audio processor(WDM)" rather than just "multimedia audio device". That is the correct identification. The multimedia audio device is only part of the overal sound drivers.

In reference to Apple, they control both the hardware and Operating System thus it better work. However, with the number of problems posted about Mac's that I see on some other forums, I have to conclude the "apple works better" is a myth.

Back to your Xfi problem. Since it's being properly identified, it's back to the Creative drivers. Make sure you are using the correct OS drivers. Normally, Vista drivers will work with Windows 7 but I've seen Creative Xfi devices that must have Windows 7 specific drivers and if there are no Win 7 specific drivers it's time to find a new sound card.

Im trying to make my SB0790 soundcard from Creative work, but i can't find a working driver. I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate.

I've tried Extreme Audio Series driver for vista, both version 5 and the beta version 6, no luck. I also tried the X-fi Extreme Audio driver for vista, no luck either. The X-fi Extreme Audio driver tells me that it can't find an installed Creative device, and the Extreme Audio Series driver installs and tells me to restart, and when i've done that nothing changed.

Your soundcard is "Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio" as listed on the creative site for the model number SB0790.
Did you try the driver from here:,varset=ws:,case=6740

Listed at number 7.

I read some forums, and there is driver issue in Vista with the X-fi soundcards.

A:Creative sound card driver win 7 avalibility chart

Hi all,

I'm posting it because i believe it may help other people. I have an old Creative Sound Blaster Vibra 128 PCI Sound Card and I've recentelly installed Windows 7 on my PC (formerly I had XP). Well, Creative, in its site, says the sound card is discontinued and there is no driver for Vista or 7.

After much searching, I gave up finding a driver. But then i tried the stand-alone driver for Sound Blaster PCI 128 for XP (Creative Worldwide Support) and it worked! Sound is just fine!

For people with discontinued sound cards, maybe this solution will help. The drivers I've tried exclusively for Vibra 128 haven't worked. A generic sound card driver may work, as it did for me.

Hi, I have a small problem. I replaced the Recon3D drivers with the Microsoft HD Compatible Audio drivers that Windows automatically gets since I personally hate the drivers and THX control panel that Creative used on this chipset (it's an integrated soundcard btw). It sounded great, at least better than the metallic sound I got with the "proper drivers". Problem is that this morning it decided to stop working, and when I updated the drivers it automatically installed the Recon3D drivers again. Is there any way to force windows to install and use the Microsoft HD Audio Driver?

A:Creative CA0132 Gigabyte G1 Sniper M3 driver issue

The Windows installed drivers are only basic function drivers. The motherboard drivers are usually the best. I have a gigabyte motherboard with RealTek audio. It also came with Creative SoundBlaster MB, which is a software enhancement to the RealTek. However I only installed the RealTek audio drivers, I didn't install the optional SoundBlaster MB addition. Can't you do that with your sound drivers?

Hi Everyone. I have a really annoying issue with my new Headset.
I cannot Hear my Voice Realtime (from the mic) in the headphones.

My old Headset MS Livechat lx3000 had an option at Playback devices where u could UnMute and adjust the Volume of the playback of the microphone. Same thing exist for any microphone i plug in my soundcard.
Unfortunately the new headset by Creative has not something like that and since its very soundproof of the enviroment sounds I cannot hear my own voice when im speaking and that make me unsure if my friends on skype for example (im like half-def) can hear me well and im shouting...

Thats really uncomfortable for me and for others.

I contacted with Creative Support and they told me that their Headsets Have not the "What you hear" feauture like their Sound Blaster ext soundcards (although the headset has a real soundblaster chip in its hardware). Then I asked them if its a Hardware limitation or software limitation. they told me its about the software.

So Now im Searching for a Cool Modder Guru that can fix/mod the driver/software of that Headset in order to implement the "What you hear" Feature or whatever...i need to be able to adjust the playback sound of my microphone.... Please someone help me!!

Modifying a driver to provide a new feature (even with source code which for a commercial product is almost never available) is a far from simple thing. To further complicate things a 64 bit driver must be digitally signed. A signed driver is specifically designed to prevent modification.

I want to know why this is happening.

I have a Creative Labs Live 5.1 sound card (model E400 I believe). When I set up XP, Microsoft automatically installed a driver for it. I noticed that with this driver, the sound was so loud. I would have my volume at like 10% or so, and it would be at "normal volume". At 30% it would be loud and you get the point...

Then I installed the creative labs driver from 2003 ( the latest one). The sound is WAY lower. With this new driver, to have the same volume as the microsoft one at 10%, this one has to be at 80% or higher. I cannot notice any difference in quality of sound- sounded the same with both drivers...

A:creative labs live! 5.1 sound card driver question

you need a sound engineer with sound wave meter on this one.

sounds like the new driver is running less wattage (current) through the
actual speaker.

like I said a sound engineer in a lab could tell you the difference in the
but I would just enjoy the sound.

how old and what type of speakers are you using.
do they have the base and treble as separate cones????
the new driver probably is taking this into account and is moderating the
wattage going in to each speaker to give a better tone from each speaker.

like in the old days of 8 tracks---
massive stereo speakers that come up to your waist-----little computer speakers sound just as good at no where near
the cost.

I am having a confusing time trying to figure out why my internet went from 10+ Mbps down to <1 Mbps after simply downloading a wireless card driver.
From the beginning:

My wireless download speed was 10+Mbps, and I was using the Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card. This information is found in the Device Manager, under "Network".
The driver for the card was 5.30.x.y (I can't remember the specific version number, but I do remember it was 5.30.something.something). Upon navigating to the Dell webpage, I wanted to see if there were any drivers for the same wireless card that were more updated, to perhaps increase performance.

I navigated to the page for my computer (Dell Latitude D830), here. That page is for my model laptop. You'll notice that, in the drop down for "Operating System", there is no option to select Windows 7.

Regardless, I navigated to the driver under "Network", the Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card, and downloaded it. It was version, from 11/9/2009. This is where my problem began. After installing the driver and rebooting, my internet speed instantly went to below 1 Mbps. I have no clue why installing a later wireless card driver would mess up my speed.

My only hypothesis is that the driver I downloaded is only compatible with Vista. Do I just re-download driver version 5.30.x.y or something to get it back? Why did it get so slow?

How do I get my computer back to the downloa... Read more

If it is in fact only the driver you should be able to navigate to control panel - system - device manager - Network Adapters , right click the driver in question, choose properties then the driver tab and click the rollback driver button.

If it is in fact only the driver causing the issue, it should return to it's previous state after a reboot.

Hi, I've been having a couple of weeks of a nasty crashing problem, which started with virtual drivers instability, faulty ram, and overheating graphics card. All factors of those eliminated, and now I am down to multiple crashes of a strange nature.

Specifically, the computer is showing all signs of being healthy and stable, passing all stability tests I threw at it and the memtest for the ramstick. But it crashes, randomly, during video games without regards for the strain on the system by that video game. After asking around, it was determined that the crash isolated to a:

System Error Category (102) Event 1003

Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 f45b7a0f, parameter3 ba4618d8, parameter4 00000000.
According to the guy who examined the only minidump I got from those crashes (I got several, in fact, but this is the only crash that was registered on the system log with a minidump after I put in my single working stick of ram; all others occurred at what I definitely know to be faulty ram now), the crash was caused specifically by this: (the minidump is in the attachment if anyone cares to look at it)

I am going to be purchasing a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro sound card and a Creative GigaWorks S750 7.1 Speaker System and I was wondering, if the X-Fi Elite Pro comes with its own control and in/out console box, and if I connect the sound card to the console box, how exactly do I connect the console box to the GigaWorks S750 subwoofer so I could have the full 7.1 surround sound feel to my room? And do I need the console box connected to the sound card at all to get the 7.1 surround sound quality?

This is a good reviews of the GigaWorks S750 7.1 Speaker System -This review shows you the connections at the back of the subwoofer

A:Solved: How to connect a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro to a Creative GigaWorks S750?

I've had a couple of Creative sound cards with the console. They have been the internal models, but I don't think the setup of the external console would be any different. I apologize if I am not correct with what follows since I don't have personal experience with your setup. However, the general arrangement is that your satellites plug into the subwoofer and the subwoofer connects to plugs on the back of the sound card (which is 7.1). And that's it. Speaker controls are done with a utility within Windows. The external console has a headphone jack with a volume control for that. All the other plugs and controls are for things other than your speakers. In fact for most individuals the console is not a necessary item.

Edit: I went to the Creative Web site and I found this line "Easy control of Sound Blaster X-Fi through the convenient, external break-out-box". So I guess it does more than the usual consoles. Hard to tell from the picture. Speaker setup should be the same.

Could someone please suggest a solution??

A:Can't hear back speakers (Creative Inspire 5.1 Digital 5500+Creative Audigy LS)

Some Suggestions

Check your Audigy HQ settings to see if the speaker modes are in 2 Speaker or 5.1 surround. Or you can go to Control Panel -> Sounds (multimedia settings) -> Speaker Settings and try setting it to 5.1 surround. I have Sound Blaster Audigy and I didn't know how to activate the 5.1 at first and what I had to do was go to the Audigy HQ in the Creative Folder in the Start -> Programs menu and had to set it to 5.1 in the speaker settings. If all else fails, double check your connections at the back and see if you reversed any of it and what not. Hope this helps!

Hey all. I had a recent round of Windows updates for Vista and one of them apparently killed my mouse. I have a generic Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard. The keyboard continued to work just fine, but not the mouse. Vista recognizes the mouse as a "HID-compliant mouse". My guess is that something happens to the drivers after one of the updates.

Anyway, I used System Restore to return my computer to the period just before installing the updates and the mouse worked again.

Here is a list of the 11 updates--I presume one of them is the cause:

1) Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista (KB947864)
2) Security Update for ActiveX Killbits for Windows Vista (KB948881)
3) Security Update for Windows Vista (KB941693)
4) Security Update for Windows Vista (KB945553)
5) Security Update for Windows Vista (KB948590)

7) Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - April 2008 (KB890830)
8) Update for Windows Mail Junk E-mail Filter [April 2008] (KB905866)
9) Security Update for Microsoft Office Visio 2007 (KB947590)
10) Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Junk Email Filter (KB949037)
11) Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB946691)

I have a 5.1 system and I play it through the Sound Blaster X-Fi MB audio card. As I'm playing a stereo file in Winamp, I have enabled CMSS 3D upmixing (surround). It would play in the surround (upmixed state) for a while and if I play any movie on VLC and return to Winamp, the CMSS 3D won't play (it will be still enabled in the Dell Audio panel for Sound Blaster). No matter how many times I turn it on and off, it still won't play in the CMSS 3D Surround mode or Stereo Upmix mode.

Frustrated by that, I used the creative auto updater to update my creative drivers. And all hell broke loose! When I restarted and tried to use the new driver it showed: "The audio device supported by this application is not detected". I again reverted the driver back to the factory version and now creative audio works but the CMSS 3D issue still persists. Also, the Creative Console wont open either. Spent the whole day trying to fix this. Someone please help me why this happens and how the hell can I fix it?

So far,
I have re-installed and updated all the creative drivers and reverted it back to factory version as updates didn't recognize the device.
My 5.1 speakers are working fine (tested with a 5.1 media).
Restarted and reconnected my audio system several times.

Somehow or other I seem to have lost my mouse driver for the two or three button mouse with a wire which plugs into the back of the computer, and I want it back. I don't like the wireless mice, which still work and I am using one now, but not by choice. All I want is a file I can load, then plug my old two button KeyMouse into the back of the computer and use the mouse. HP, Key products and MicroSoft say that they don't have any or that I'm not smart enough to use them or whatever. Anyone got any suggestions?

I tried one of those software driver update programs but it wanted to change 33 things in my system. I'm happy with my old system exactly as it is, except for the mouse, so I dumped it and cleaned the registry. I'm sure there's a generic mouse driver kicking around somewhere, but neither AOL or ASK can find it.

The old thread has expired and it told me to start a new one. I did. Any help will be gratefully received.

I'm working with a Dell Dimension C521 PC. It came with a PCI-Express video card which apparently has failed, yet the motherboard itself has on-board video. The system will boot using this video output (as opposed to the card which produced nothing) but when it finally gets to windows the auto-detect driver routine kicks in and begins to detect the video card, prompting the user to "Continue Anyway" to finish installing unsigned drivers. Unfortunately this event takes place in front of the installation of the USB keyboard and mouse (times like these I wish it had PS/2 ). Anyway, whether I boot up into Safe Mode or normal a prompt comes up about installing drivers for the on-board chipset. I can't interact with it because the driver install routine for the keyboard/mouse becomes interrupted.

A:Dell Dimension C521; USB key/mouse driver load interrupted by video card driver load

Bump. I've been thinking... the only way I think this can be fixed is if I boot from a Linux CD or something similar and delete a particular set of drivers for this video card. It can't prompt you to install any drivers if they don't exist, right? But I don't know where to go to delete such files and prevent them from automatically trying to install themselves. Any ideas?
