Ie 10 installed manually, still shows up in WU and won´t go away

Q: Ie 10 installed manually, still shows up in WU and won´t go away

So a couple of weeks ago or so I installed ie10 manually. All fine and good and works well. Today ofc ie 10 comes in windows update so I figure its an update or something and install it. When I reboot its again in windows update even though I installed it already. Also in 'Installed updates' 2 entrances show with ie10. I dont really foresee a huge problem with this but Im still wondering if you have any ideas on how to fix it?

A: Ie 10 installed manually, still shows up in WU and won´t go away

Hi Conditioned, uninstall it then let WU replace it or try it manually again like this:- Attachment 259099

i installed windows 8 on my new pc who includes Shappire 7870 xt boost and monitor Samsung T220. whether i turned off the monitor manually or it turns off automatic by power saver, sometimes the monitor shows only black screen. The monitor does turns on, it's light turn on, but all i get is black screen.

i also have I5 4570 and Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H.after i installed windows, i installed the motherboard drivers, includes Intel HD Graphics 4600. Could it conflicts with the ATI's driver?

also, when i connect the monitor to the motherboard it works fine (so far at least). but games doesn't run smoothly.

A:Monitor shows black screen after been turned off manually

Hello matizami, and welcome to EightForums,

If your monitor works fine when connected to the motherboard, then the issue lies with your graphic card. Make sure you're running the latest drivers for your graphic card. Go here to update them.

Your motherboard drivers won't conflict conflict with ATI drivers.

Greets Everyone.
Thank you for the incredibly helpful forum!!

I have a weird issue that has cropped up with my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I decided to upgrade the version of my Scite and there were no options for installing it. I simply unzipped the archive and copied it to a new folder in my Program Files (x86) folder. I then renamed my old winscite to bust the links, keeping it in case something went wrong, and created new desktop, startmenu, and taskbar links to the new version.

The application opens up just fine, and works just fine. But when I want to use it to open specific file types/extensions, I cannot use it. I tried right clicking on a file, say a PHP file, and then chose Open with.../Choose default program from the right click context menu in Windows Explorer, and of course, Scite is not listed in the recommended programs options. I expand "OTHER" and still do not see it, of course. So I clicked BROWSE, navigate to the new scite, and double click it. This is where the weird stuff starts. The browse dialog box closes, yet scite is not an option still. Nothing changes actually.

Scite is not listed as a default program, and I cannot add the new scite as one. I have no idea how I can tell Windows that I want to open the new scite with ANY file type.

Is there a registry modification I need to perform? How do I remove ALL options/recommended apps associated with a file type? Then maybe when I double click that file type, I can tell Windows where to find s... Read more

A:neo basic 2165 - 4gb installed but only shows 3gb installed

Hello Joey,

Its simple, your computer cannot use 4GB of RAM as your computer is using Windows 32bit. To use 4GB or more RAM, you will need to have installed Windows 64 bit. Windows 32bit can only use around 3.25GB RAM, although this might vary between different computers. Could you tell me you CPU name so I could check if it supports 64 bit?

I bought an Asus N550LF-CM115H two months ago and replaced the HDD with as SSD in order to maximize performance.

The laptop has incredible start-up times, showing that the SSD is most definitely the drive on which the system is running, and can open programs pretty quickly. However the general performance of the computer is buggy. For example, while typing this, the letters are noticably coming up several split seconds after typing them. It has great trouble running web browers (I've tried Chrome, Firefox and Explorer) without eventually having a script fail or the browser become unresponsive.

It's usable, and occasionaly the performance is very good, but there is definitely something wrong somewhere. Any tests I can run to check where? Any ideas on what the problem might be? Any ideas on how I could go about fixing this?

Thanks a lot.

A:New laptop running on a manually-installed SSD is buggy

That could be anything and may have nothing to do with the SSD. For starters I would run a sfc /scannow

Co-worker wanted me to look at her computer to fix some problems. I found virus(es) had hijacked ie. I tried malwarebytes, etc. and switched to firefox and tried to run windows update but endless search yielded no updates.

I reinstalled the OS from original disk -- Vista Home Basic 32-bit.

I manually installed SP1. I then manually installed SP2. Tried updates again. Forever looking and no updates.

Could someone outline my next moves to be done to head towards a fix for this updating problem? I would appreciate it. I see that there posts with similar problems and I am not sure which ones I should try or do I need to do something else before I start manually downloading updates?

I have several Type 1 fonts that I installed manually and now want to uninstall. When attempting to delete through the Control Panel route to Fonts, the error message is that the fonts are in use and cannot be deleted. No programs are open. When attempting to delete or change permissions through the CMD window, the error message is access denied. When attempting to change the read/write permissions on the Fonts folder, and clicking ignore on the many system fonts that Windows installs by default, I still cannot get access to these three fonts. Interestingly, this r/w permissions approached worked several days ago for several other Type 1 fonts that I installed manually.

Thanks in advance.

I have an asrock 939 dual sata2 motherboard and an AMD 64 3800 cpu, I have run xp fine for years but thought I would upgrade to Vista,
I got Vista Ultimate 32bit and then found about the ram limit on 32 bit OS, but for some reason I get more ram showing up in vista when there is less in the motherboard?
When i have 3 x 1gb stick in it shows up as 2.5GB ram, but when I put 4 x 1gb sticks in it takes it back down to 2gb (which is what it showed when I only had 2 x 1gb sticks in)
I then installed vista ultimate 64 bit and all 4GB showed up fine ( I did this to check it wasnt the ram that was faulty) I would have kept 64 bit but I couldnt find any wifi drivers to work so I have gone back to 32bit ultimate.
Is there anything I can do to get the right amount it should be when i have 4gb in?
Do you think the system will run quicker with 4gb in even though it only shows 2gb or should i take a stick out so it shows 2.5gb?
Ive looked on a lot of forums and it seems most people can get 3gb showing when 4gb is in so any ideas why its not working for me?

It may be that too much of your RAM is being allocated to something like graphics. This can usually be changed in the BIOS. If you're not sure how to do that, I could walk you through it but I would need to know what motherboard you have.
Please download Speccy System Information Tool and save it to somewhere convenient such as your desktop.
Close any programs that may be running including your browser and double click Speccy.exe to run the tool.
Watch out for any offers to install other programs such as google chrome and untick the box(es) if you don't want them.
Speccy will very quickly scan your pc and create a report.
Top left of screen click file and select Publish Snapshot...
Click Yes to proceed.
Copy the URL to your clipboard and paste it into your next reply.

Just as the title said, I'm having problem getting all 4 sticks of RAM to work.

My memory are OCZ SLI-Ready (4 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400), model OCZ2N800SR2GK. I've tested each of them with memtest86+ and determined that they are working.

My motherboard is a BFG nForice 650i Ultra, which according to the manual, should support up to 8GB of DDR2 800 memory. So this shouldn't be a mobo restriction either.

As for OS, I am dual-booting with Ubuntu 8.04 and Windows Vista Ultimate (both are 32-bit). NOTE that I am fully aware of the 32-bit vs 64-bit limitation when it come to large memory support. However, I want to know why even the BIOS would report only 3GB. Only then would I go out and get a 64-bit OS for replacement.

I've done some googling, some one from another forum said in order for their BIOS to properly recognize over 3GB of RAM they had to enable something called 'Memory Mapping'. I don't see anything like that in my BIOS (not a surprise since the person above used a mobo from a different manufacturer).

So, any idea what's going on here?

A:4GB installed, but only 3GB shows up in OS & BIOS

Might want to boot with each stick of memory and see if one of them is bad - and/or run memtest to find any errors. Could just be a bad stick.

For 2 weeks I've had Vista on C drive and Win7(x86) on D drive. I've just formatted D and installed Win7(x64) and now, whether I boot with Vista or Win7, the OS I'm actually using is shown as being on C drive. So, when I boot Win7, all the files relating to Vista - plus all the other files which I stored on C - are magically transferred to the D drive. When I boot with Vista, all is back to normal.

It seems strange that this happens only with the 64 bit Win7. The 32 bit version was installed on D and stayed there! Can someone explain this phenomenon?

Also, should I concern myself with the 2 'Program Files' folders, one of which has '(x86)' after it? Am I right in thinking that if a program is 32 bit (but still usable with a 64 bit OS) Win7 will direct it to the correct Program File folder meaning I don't need to 'browse' to the other one if given a choice when installing?

Many thanks.

A:64bit installed on D but now shows on C

I had a similar problem, what I did was to use the Computer Management console (Start>Run>msconfig then tools tab, Computer Management, Disk Management) and it allowed me to view and mount the drive for Windows. That *may* work for you.

A:Have 192MB ram installed, Only 127 shows up!?

Hi cscinphx
Does the new ram work ok by itself? Possibly the two Rams are different speeds. Anyway it looks like your motherboard wont support the two types of ram together. Not much you can do except try different memory. Some motherboards are fussy about the type and speed of ram installed.

He does not have any disk that came with computer. Any thoughts i could pass along ??

A:shows no system installed

There can be many reasons. The MBR can be corrupted, the C partition can be deactivated, etc. You can inspect (and possibly correct) the situation with the bootable CD of Partition Wizard (last entry on the webpage).

If nothing else, you can ask Gateway to send an installation disc. They used to do that for a S&H charge of $20.

Another possibility is to reinstall with any Vista installation disc (must be same edition - e.g. Home Premium) and activate it with the product key that is on the COA sticker (should be in the back of the PC).

To save the data before a reinstallation, Puppy is pretty handy: Lucid Puppy way to recover files from a non-bootable computer - Windows 7 Forums

Last week I had to get my computer reformated and windows update seemed fine. I have Windows XP Pro and it's just the bast few days I've had problems. My updater keeps alerting me to three files I need installing. Two are 'Update for Windows XP' and one is a 'Security Update for Windows XP' I click install and it goes through the process and says all three are done and installed fine. I get no errors or anything, but then as soon as it goes away, the yellow shield pops up again and says I have the same three items needing to be installed.

I've tried updating at least three times now and each time it says it was successful only for it to pop up again. I've even written the KB numbers that are written after it down and it's the same thing each time. I've tried rebooting and then doing it but that hasn't done anything either. I didn't have this problem with any of the previous updates and I'm not sure what to do now.

It will link you to the Windows update website and show updates needed.Select Update History in the left hand window of your screen on this site. This will show all updates, which ones failed and why.You are probably missing previous critical updates and may have to go back and get those updates, then the Windows XP SP2 will work properly. Follow the restart prompts in between each update as instructed until they are all done. It will take a while, but you'll be back in business and running soothly in no time.

I have been having some strange issues related to the big update that was released yesterday (specifically, the one labeled as KB2919355 in Windows Update). When I went to download the update, the progress indicator froze at "4% Complete". When I went to shut down last night, it actually installed that update (apparently it did download even though Windows Update thinks it didn't). When I booted back up this morning, Windows Update was showing that same update as being available even though it's already listed in the Installed Updates section.

After trying various methods to get it to work properly (renaming the SoftwareDistribution directory via admin-level Command Prompt, uninstalling and attempting to reinstall the update both via Windows Update and the manual packages), I'm now at the point where I was before, except that Windows is now showing a second already-installed update as being available as well (KB2933809).

How do I resolve this issue? I don't want to hide the updates as I'm afraid that might affect future updates (since most updates released after a Service Pack are typically dependent on having it installed to begin with).

A:Windows shows installed updates are available

I've avoided installing this update. I'm afraid it will mess up my computer.

Hello everyone,

I have this issue that no matter how much ram i have installed it only shows half on my Windows 7 64 bit system.

when i bought it it had 4gb installed, but i could only use 1.99,
so i installed 2GB more from my old computer(which had DDR3 ram as well) but now it shows 2.99 Usable with 6GB installed.

in BIOS it also shows 3 thousand something. and showed 2k something with only the original parts.

and yes i'm sure i run a 64bit system and not a 32bit as it says so below how much ram i have installed and can use.

anyone know what causes this and knows how i can fix it? had blue screen 2-3 times now cause to much memory was used. and its bugging me so to speak.

any help would be great. i will call the support over the new year tho, but would be great to get help if anyhone know why. you can see my specs on my profile.

I purchased a 960 GB SSD for my computers OS and Programs. Instead of cloning from the HHD to the SSD. I decided to do a clean install on the SSD. Then I formatted the HDD to free it up for data storage. I then re-installed all my other programs on the new C drive (SSD).

But I forgot to unplug the other drives when I installed win 7 on the new drive. This is causing me some problems, with system backup in particular. I normally backup my system image and C drive to an external 2tb drive. But it now defaults to include the F drive in the system image. So there isn't enough drive space for it to complete.

Attached is a screenshot of my Disc Management folder. The C drive is the SSD. F drive is the former C disc which is empty except for whatever happened during the install. Fyi, I've attempted to format repeatedly. And found that the disc manager will not allow me to delete the volume.

How do I get the system/boot/reserved all on the same drive? I'm no expert. So step by step directions would be appreciated.

A:Installed Win 7 64 on SSD. But System still shows on HDD drive.

This is why we should always unplug all other drives during OS install. The boot files were placed on the old HD.

To correct this first mark all other partitions except C Inactive since only the System partition should be Active. Partition - Mark as Inactive - Windows 7 Forums

Next unplug all other HD's, if possible swap the DISK0 cable to Win7 SSD so that it is in the preferred position as long as that is the optimal SSD port on your mobo. This prevents the boot files from again being derailed to a preceding Primary partition if you ever run Startup Repairs or Reinstall with the other drives plugged in.

Now with only the SSD plugged in, run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times until Win7 boots and holds the System Active flags.

Now you can plug back in the other HD's, I would move the data off of the old Win7 drive to wipe it with Diskpart Clean Command to clear the boot code and partition table so it can't interfere again, then repartition in Disk Mgmt.

Is it possible for this update to be both, because it is both hidden & installed on both my desktop & laptop. Here are screen shots from the desktop:

I have made several attempts to uninstall, can't get it out of there. If I install the hidden one I can then uninstall it & hide it again. But it still shows as Installed.

Ran MBAM scan & MSE, sfc /scannow, System Update Readindess Tool, Microsoft Fix it. Here are the results from Fix It which are also confusing:

as you can see it tells me Windows Update Error 0x80070057 was not fixed, but the detailed info tells another story, check out the time stamp:

Maybe the Fix It tool is not telling the truth? Found a thread related to Windows Update error = Windows update Error 0x80070005 - Need a fix? Click here. but have not yet attempted since cannot be sure Windows Update error 0x80070057 is valid.

Outside of KB2952664 & the Windows Update Error the computer appears to be running fine. Actually Windows Update was not quite working correctly until I ran the Fix It yesterday. Had not been receiving the "Windows Installed New Updates" notifications until after Fix It.

I should just have let Windows Update do it's thing & install all the Windows 10 prep. Perhaps constantly uninstalling & hiding KB2952664 has caused me problems. I believe there have been several iterations of this update, following thread How to remove Windows 10 upgrade updates in Windows 7 and 8 I see ma... Read more

A:KB2952664 shows as both installed & hidden?

I have the same issue. In fact, it now says KB2952664 has been installed TWICE in the "view installed updates" AFTER I've uninstalled it and it shows up as hidden.

They keep shoving all these updates down the pipe even if you hide them/uninstall them and then it causes a lot of problems.

I have a pavillion dv7 purchased about 9 months back.    Since last couple of weeks it has become extremely slow.  Tried Virus scanning, Spyware scanning, chkdsk,  Defrag.  Finally tried Advanced System Diagnostic (pressing F2) .  In all tests it says the followingMemory Test : PAssedSmart Check: Not installedShort DST: Not installedLong DST: Not installed  everything else passes. If I try Hard Disk Test ,  it says "No Hard Disk Installed" However,  it boots  and I can use it (though very slow) ! What can be the problem and how do I solve it ?

A:Slow Pavilion, test shows DST Not installed

It sounds like you might have a failing hard drive.  Try updating the system BIOS and then perform a hard reset and try running the test again by pressing F2.   To Perform A Hard Reset Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for  5 seconds); (if the computer doesn't power on, move to the next step)Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook.  There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.

I have no idea what to make of this:

I just installed Adobe Shockwave 11, and then went into Revo Uninstaller to find the app's uninstaller location, and thus the location of the install... and it showed System32. I went to the relevant Registry entries and they all said the same: System32. Problem is, when I went to find the installed files and folders within Windows Explorer, they weren't where the Registry (and therefore, Revo) indicates; they were in SysWOW64.

What say ye gurus? I'm puzzled!

A:Installed App is in SysWOW64, but Registry shows System32

Confusing, isn't it?

As I understand it, native processes that are 64-bit find ?their? DLLs where they expect them: in the System32 folder. A second directory, SysWOW64, contains the 32-bit DLLs. The file system redirector does the magic of hiding the real System32 directory for 32-bit processes and showing SysWOW64 under the name of System32. So many applications are hard-coded for that System32 path, I guess Microsoft felt it wasn't feasible to rename it or remove it. This article goes into a lot more detail.

I have started learning Java, and to that end downloaded eclipse. A section in the source forge tutorial covered stepping into Java source, so I downloaded what I thought was the correct version, although it was mostly a guess as to which the correct version was, and a duh moment because I had already followed the tutorial and had stepped into Java source. Didn't need any more resources.

I specified the new download as the JRE and started getting err messages, and of course I had already removed what seemed to be the older source. I'm not sure I can reconstruct everything I did, but upshot is that when I tried to open Eclipse this morning, the spash screen showed for a brief moment, then disappeared. Task manager shows eclipse is running, but there is no icon on the task bar and no open window.

I thought that perhaps I had removed the proper jre, and that it was installed with the eclipse package, so I reinstalled eclipse. The JRE was reinstalled, but Eclipse still won't open.

Any ideas what I might have done.

What I now have in my Java directory is

Ok, so recently, i installed an optional update through Windows update on to my Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit system. When i logged on, i noticed that my netgear wireless internet card was no longer working at all. I tried to uninstall the update since it seemed to be working before it was added. however even though it shows up in the "update history" tab, it does not show up in the "installed updates" tab.

the exact update name:
-Broadcom driver update for Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter

anyone know how i can get rid of it/downgrade it to the previous working version?

A:Update shows in history, but not in installed updates

Yeah, that is because it is a driver. Go to Device Manager > under Network Adaptors you will find your Broadcom > double click on it and go to the Driver tab. There you can roll- back.

I upgraded Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro a few months ago. My desktop looks "similar" to Win 10. Or am I confused? All works fine. This is a Lenovo T530 laptop. "Settings" shows Win 10 Pro is activated. The Seven Forums System Info tool shows OS is Win 10.

But the desktop has a "Computer" icon not "My PC" like another Win 10 Computer here. Somehow the desktop looks a hybrid of Win 7/10. I know, I must be losing it.

I don't recall my upgrade procedure except that I used a Win 10 iso from Microsoft Creator Tool. I've done a number of Win 10 upgrades but perhaps I'm losing my bearings (or worse).

I just looked at my HDD structure (see below). Would someone interpret these partitions for me? Why Win 7?

Thx awfully - dizmayed

Also, on the automatic updates, its not letting the windows 7 SP1 update either. Maybe has to do with the Java, or vice versa ? Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Hi all,

Norton anti-virus 2012 would not install because Vista SP1 was missing. I downloaded SP1 from MS but it crashed my PC during the install. Irrevocably. Wouldn't load.

I had no choice but to do a factory reset from the system recovery partition (It's an HP Pavillion a6250 which comes with a recovery Drive D: but no Vista Installation Disc)

This worked fine, effectively providing a factory-fresh machine. I used Windows Update to download 89 outstanding updates - all fine.

I checked the update history and it showed that both SP1 and SP2 had been installed successfully but when looking at the My Computer/Properties, neither appears as being installed.

If anyone has faced a similar problem, any advice on where to go from here would be much appreciated . . .

So, naturally I am here because I have a problem I can't seem to figure out.  It stemmed from a different problem I can't seem to figure out - and during my troubleshooting of that one I was trying to download a new driver, clicked the wrong thing on the webpage, and downloaded "YourFile Downloader" instead.
Fortunately, I was able to stop the install before the program was actually loaded onto my computer (or so I thought?), realizing after only a handful of seconds that it was not the driver I had thought I'd downloaded - and I am very particular about downloading the files themselves, no third party programs to "help me out" with troubleshooting that I stumble across, because they never end well.
I think however that I was too late.  ]:
For some reason, even though the YourFile Downloader program itself was never installed (and I am certain it wasn't.  But I did check - there is nothing in Program Files or Program Files(86) folders, nor the App Data folders or my Start Menu, etc., nor did anything turn up in the Program list that is generally utilized to uninstall or repair programs), whenever I startup my computer I am prompted by something from YourFile Downloader wanting access to do Lord only knows what!

I have a dell studio 15 laptop Windows Vista Home Premium installed on it. I got this laptop in November 2008, since then it was working fine just when I returned from Germany o india its not working. initially i thought disk got damaged due to x-ray scanning on airports but I read several threads on internet which says it does not erases/damages hard disks same I have also experienced during my several visits in which same laptop has gone through with this scanning process.

I tried to recover my OS by using OS DVD provided with the laptop. I booted my laptop by setting up the bootable device as DVD in BIOS but it does not help me to recover. I tried to install Windows XP also in C derive so that I can see the data(i.e. my all useful and important) present in D derive but its is not allowing me to install windows XP too on it.

I have a backup drive that we had used for for a while (WD 6000aak), previously in an external drive enclosure. I connected it today via USB to find that the computer has the driver installed, the drive appears in the Devices list, but it does not show in My Computer. In "Disk Management" the drive appears but is not assigned a drive letter. Also, all the options for the volumes are greyed out and cannot be selected - thus I cannot assign a drive letter.

I have tried this on multiple computers. I have also removed it from the enclosure and connected the drive via SATA... the result is identical. I checked the bios and the drive appears there.

The drive does spin when powering up. It is hot (even though it cannot really be accessed).

Any suggestions? Is this drive done?

A:Hard drive installed, shows in Drive Mngmnt, in Bios, but not in Comp.

Go to Disk Management, in the bottom part of the screen, right click the drive, select 'change drive letter or path', next window select add, next window select a drive letter from the drop down box. For an external drive it's best to use a letter lower in the alphabet. If disk management wants to initialize and format it, don't do it if there is data on it you don't want to lose. If no data or if you don't care, go ahead. It will show in computer when a drive letter is assigned.

Hi - running patch current Windows 8.1, and am having an ongoing but not always constant issue regarding how much memory I have available to me on any given boot of Windows.
I have 32 GB of memory installed on the computer, and yet almost 17.3 GB of that is not available to me, and is shown as Hardware Reserved when I look at the Physical Memory in the Resource Monitor.
I have validated the memory is error free through multiple runs of Memtest, have removed memory strips and blown out any possible dust from memory slots, and SOMETIMES, it properly will show me around 30.4 GB available, however most boots it is showing pretty
consistently that 17.3 GB is flaged as Hardware Reserved.

I did some searching, and have tried some of the suggestions, such as making sure the Maximum Memory box is not checked in MSCONFIG, and have also tried editing ClearPageFileAtShutdown in the Registry to change it from the default value of '0' to a
new value of '1'.  Nothing has worked thus far.
I DO need access to as much of that 32 GB of memory as possible, due to this computer using huge amounts of memory as a Digital Audio Workstation, recording music with huge volumes of samples loaded fully into memory.  Performance suffers greatly when
half of what is installed is not available.
I have also looked in the BIOS for any ways to adjust video memory and memory mapping and neither exists in the BIOS at all for me to try anything with.  The CPU happens to be an AMD ... Read more

Moreover, in VMWare, you are to install VMWare Tools to make the vm run flawlessly, and it makes mouse integration and network etc drivers workable in the guest . Is there such an option in Hyper V ? If so , do it .

Hi guys. I just upgraded my processor to an AMD 8350. It replaced my Phenom. This is the 3rd day the new processor has been in the computer. First two days everything went fine. Ran Prime 95 and IBT to make sure i was up and stable. This morning (3rd day) got up, turned on the computer, and now i have less usable ram than i had last night. No matter how many times i restart, it shows less in windows than what bios shows. It says either 4,6, or 8gb usable ram (it changed just about every time too). I have reseated all the ram. I have moved them around. I have reseated the processor. I have clean installed windows 7 home premium x64. Does anyone have any ideas? This is the first issue with RAM i have ever ran into. Also, when i am in bios, and i go to the RAM settings, everything shows up like it is supposed to. Details, options, timings, etc. Not really sure where to go from here.

A:12gb ram shows in bios, only 4,6,or 8 usable shows in windows

In most AMD CPUs, the memory controller is on-die in the CPU. Maybe your FX-8350 is malfunctioning.

- Do you have the correct voltage for your memory set in BIOS?
- What kind of memory is it? (brand name, model, and speed)
- Have you tried putting the Phenom back in to see if the 12GB memory comes back?

At the same time, the physical machine's task manager shows the physical processor is running 25-30%. The virtual machine has 3712MB of ram allocated to it, and there isn't much hard drive activity. Anyway, I'm curious if anyone else has run into this bottle neck and if there's anything to do about it. It seems like my physical machine has more resources to put on the virtual machine than it's capable of using or something like that.

chinese symbols translates to You Flick something
have been seeing this pop up across multiple clients locations, which have nothing in common industry wise.
Webroot support so far says its not an issue "according to logs", but I beg to differ that this may be something that has yet to be detected.
So far I have deleted it from the users folder and the registry and seems to come back on reboot
webroot detects nothing and neither does malware bytes which is more concerning.

I have a strange issue. I have a Lenovo T60 laptop and I am experiencing problems with the power management/power guage.

It will often show the battery not installed (power gauge is a greyish-white color with dashed lines) or it shows a red X. It does not matter if I am on AC power or on Battery power, it will show the full range of power, battery level, not installed, or an error.

I have searched Lenovo's site and I seem to remember seeing an FAQ about this, but now that I need it, I cannot find it.

What can I check or do to stop this? While it is annoying, I am not sure if I am having a battery problem or not. I did check my battery on Lenovo's site to see if it was recalled and it is not.

I do appreciate any help that any one can give me.

I have a strange problem with this computer running windows vista home premium x64.

If I go to C:\Windows and do a right-click on the "SchCache" folder and select properties,
the size of the folder shows 40.7 GB used.

If I try to open that folder, there is nothing in there. I have "show hidden files and folders" checked
and "hide protected operating system files" unchecked, so it's not a matter of simple hidden files.

Now it gets interesting...if I go back and try right-clicking again on the SchCache folder and select
properties, it no longer shows 40.7 GB used! It says zero bytes!

If I reboot the computer and repeat the whole procedure from the beginning, the folder properties will
return to showing a large number of gigabytes used the first time I select right-click-properties, and
then shows zero afterwards...

Malware and Spyware scans always show nothing. I've run rkill, avast, malwarebytes, tdsskiller, ETC.
and nothing is ever found.

Any ideas what is happening?

Hello and welcome Kishor now I have gut feeling that drive night have been damaged by the sudden power failure it could have affected the platters themselves or the controller unit.
Now I think you need to test the drive using this SeaTools for Windows | Seagate or a purely physical surface test see this Best Free Partition Manager Freeware and free partition magic for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista and Windows XP 32 bit & 64 bit. MiniTool Free Partition Manager Software Home Edition. run it and see my pic on how to set that up. It tests the actual surface of the platters and to some extent the ability of the read / write heads.

I just did a clean install on my laptop after installing a new SSD. I installed the drivers that I had to install manually, and then I did a Windows update for anything else. After getting everything setup I ran my first Windows Experience Index.

Surprising, the graphics score was only 5.0, but I am almost sure it was higher with the factory installation. I am runnng Aero but with most of the visual effects turned off. I viewed the assessment details and it showed this:

If you notice, the DirectX version is 10. But when I run dxdiag the version number in the report is 11. Here is my configuration, and please let me know if more information is needed. Thank you very much.

HP Pavilion dv7-4285dx
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit made from ISO image: X17-58997.iso

A:DXDiag shows DirectX 11 but Windows Experience Index shows DirectX 10

I believe that WinSAT only test for DirectX 10 and 9, not 11. That's why it only shows DirectX 10. If your card fails to do the DirectX 10 test, then WinSAT will only display DirectX 9. Don't worry about it. If DxDiag shows DirectX 11, then your card can support it.

Hey everyone, I just got a new Sony SDM-HS75 17" LCD monitor to replace an old 15" CRT for christmas...and i went to set it up tonight and when i did and turned my computer on it showed the bios and the windows XP loading but after it loaded it would go black and show the "No Input Signal" box on the screen and then go into sleep mode soon there after. I rebooted but the same thing happened... i know its not the computer because the CRT monitor has been working fine on it for almost a year now and still is working, but i'm baffled to as to what the problem is... followed the manuals troubleshooting instructions and installed the drivers and set the monitor setting to that of my new monitor, but that didnt work...also tried switching it into "Plug and Play" as the monitor setting but that didnt work either... can anyone please offer me some advice as to how to get this working? any and all help is appreciated... Thank you - Justin

A:New Monitor Shows Boot Up But Then Shows "no Input Signal"

Ii's probably this. Boot into safe mode (tap F8 on boot up), and set the resolution to 60-65Hz. Then reboot as usual. The new monitor probably cant handle the res it is set at now.

If that doesn't work, come back.

I do a lot of work on customer machines at a computer shop, and one of the most frustrating issues I run into is when I run SFC on a computer and it reports that it found errors and was unable to fix them.

Originally I intended to write a program to automatically pull the [SR] reported files from the installation media and replace the broken ones on the system, however, when I run the command from the tutorial:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

After an unsuccessful SFC attempt, even when it reports files that could not be fixed, I never turn up anything, anyone know why I don't get the [SR] tags in my CBS.log?

A:How to Manually Do SFC's Job?

Hello Virucyde, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You could use OPTION THREE in the tutorial below to get a sfcdetails.txt file with the [SR] details. If you like, upload this file here afterwards, and I'll be happy to take a look at it to see what could not be fixed.

I'm really in need of a motherboard upgrade, but until then....

I'm running XP Sp3; I have an An ASUS P4S333. this mainboard came out just before USB2.0. As luck would have it, today I'm in need of USB 2.0 (or better..LOL)

I need to change the IRQ assigned to a specialize audio audio card. It must sit on it's own, and currently it's sharing 16. I cannot unselect "Use Automatuc Setting" in Devmgmt to allow me to do this. I am logged in as administrator.

I have spent most of the morning moving cards around to try and resolve this, to no avail. I have also tried within the BIOS to force IRQ's to specific PCI slots, again with no success. The best I've been able to do is get the audio card off of IRQ18 to IRQ 16. In both scenarios, the IRQ is shared with something else. I have 6 PCI slots and 1 AGP slot. At the moment, after shuffling the PCIcard deck, AGP is occupied as are PCI 1,2,4, and 6. 1 and 5 are paired, as are 2 and 6.

A couple of suggestions for configuring this motherboard would be greatly appreciated.

I have just completed a recovery on an HP desktop. Started checking for updates and as we all know that takes a really long time (24+ hours). In my system properties it says 7 Home Premium and SP1. In the installed updates screen it says there are 12 updates only that date back to 6-7-2011.

How can I know that SP1 is actually installed?

If it is not actually installed, would it be best to manually download and install? Would this help with the time it takes to search for updates?

A:Manually install SP1?

Go to Control Panel/System

Look under "Windows Edition" at that location. If SP1 is installed, it should say "Service Pack 1".

It's downloadable as an ISO.

The 64 bit English version is named windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe

It's 903 MB in size. I'd guess you can find it and download it with a Google search. That's what I'd try to do if I knew it was not already installed.

If by "recovery", you mean some sort of restore to factory condition using an HP partition or menus and applications, I'd assume you have SP1 if the machine shipped with SP1.

I have a Toshiba laptop running Win 7 32bit. It was current on updates until July 2015. Then WU went crazy hijacked my cpu & kept trying to download Win 10. I know alot of people were having similar problems. Anyway its been worked on remotely by 2 different techs and I've spent most of the last 4 weekends researching and trying different fixes and nothing has helped. I think WU is completely screwed up now.

I just want to find and install the updates that I need from last July until now. I've tried MS catalog also the download pages at MS website but I can't seem to get the information I need. I read about a program called Belarc that among other things can tell what updates a system is missing. Has anyone used it for that purpose? Are there better programs? I really don't want to go thru 120+ pages of downloads at MS and try to pick out all the ones that I need. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Belarc should be ok, i suggest you do them in groups of 5/10.

First off, I'm plugged into a battery backup power supply. (I don't know if that's related or not.)

Also, I think my Windows Update may have something to do with it as well. The last couple times it's happened the yellow Windows Update icon popped up in my taskbar. I put off downloading the update because I didn't want to restart my PC. I woke up this morning and my PC was restarted without me doing so.

I seriously doubt it's a heat problem. My temps are moderate.

Is it possible that it's actually something that I can change by going into my Control panel and changing settings?

Only thing is I had no idea XP was no longer supported with many things. Is there a way to update it? It's in pretty good shape, just old. I tried to update the biois on the dell website but apparently the battery doesn't hold a charge well and it keeps telling me to charge it (It's on the charger but still not working.)The specs aren't so great from what I understand, Not fun going from my alienware to this, but I'm broke and can't afford anything else. A:How to manually update my XP?

If you just run Windows update as normal you will get all the updates that are available for XP.  Not being in support just means that Microsoft will not be making any more updates, existing ones will still download. As far as making it better, I can't really think of anything unfortunately.  It's certainly not worth the cost of a more modern OS and that CPU will be a major limitation despite any upgrades you try.Of course, you can always create a thread on this forum about why your desktop "died" - We may be able to help you get that up and running again.

help plz

A:How do you manually uninstall

Have you done a registry search?

Go to Start > Run, and type:

Look under Edit for the Find entry. Enter a search term that is specific to that program, like the program's name, or even the manufacturer if that is the only program you have from that company. Remove the entries that refer specifically to that program. Be careful not to remove entried that are not specific to that program. If the name has the word "system" in it, for example, you obviously should not delete all entries containing that word.

Use F3 to continue the search after each find.

Is the program still in Add/Remove?
Have you deleted the folder from Program Files?

Another thing you could try is a safe registry cleaner:

Tools > Registry Cleanup > Do Them All. And then remove all the found entries.
