Cannot install IE10 from Windows Update, Error 9C57

Q: Cannot install IE10 from Windows Update, Error 9C57

When I attempted to install IE10 from Windows Update, the update failed with Error 9C57.

There was also a prior failure (also this morning) to install an optional update, Platform Update for Windows 7 x64 edition (KB2670838).

Finally, while this may be entirely unrelated, I noticed earlier this week that the "Turn Window Features On and Off" function under Programs and Features of the Control Panel is missing quite a few items that I know used to be there. For example, there's no longer a Telnet or FTP option. The list is only about 6 or 7 items long. I mention this in case it's useful for troubleshooting.

I'm attaching CBS.zip, screen caps of the two failed Windows updates, and a screen cap of the Windows Feature showing the very few items in it.

Thanks so much in advance for your help!

Rgds,
Jeff

I have been trying to use windows update for ie10. I always get a Code 9c57 error. Now that ie11 is out, I have been trying that update with the same error. I have tried all the suggestions that I could find around the internet.

Hardware: Dell XPS M1330 laptop
OS: Windows 7 64bit

As per the suggestions for this thread, I have attached my CBS.zip file.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Afternoon all,

I am having some issues with Windows Update in relation to the IE10 & IE11 updates. I have just installed a new SSD and a fresh copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. All other updates have come through successfully except for these 2.

I have looked through some of the MS pages to determine the problem but i am still at a loss. I have followed the Windows Update Posting Instructions and attached the results below.

I am new to this so please be gentle ...

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can render.

A:IE10 & IE11 - Windows Update Issues - Code 9C57 & 9C47

Quick Update,

As it was a clean install of Windows I decided to format and have another go. This time everything worked fine with no failed updates.

The only thing I did differently was that I removed 3x2gb of ram that I recently installed. I had 6x2gb the first time round.

Don't know if this has anything to do with the errors I got but thought I would throw it out there anyways.

Thanks

Graham

This is on a friends Lenovo B520 running Windows Home Premium 64 bit.

I've found that this PC has been failing to install updates for some time now. It's still running IE9 - I can see previous failed attempts at installing IE10 and now it's failing to install IE11 in the Windows update control panel.

I've run the SURT and sfc /scannow

The CHECKSUR.log lists 127 corrupt MUM and Cat files but I'm unable to locate good versions of these to start attempting repairs. I've attached just the log files from the CBS folder as including the CABs meant the attachment was too large.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Here's the summary from the CheckSUR log...

Code:

CBS MUM Corrupt Total count: 127

Luckily, they all appear to relate to one update - or I'd have been reluctant to attempt anything short of a repair install.

The SFC results appear to have rolled off into the Persist files - please post the two latest CBSPersist files so I can take a look at them.

I'll post a fix for these file later (maybe tomorrow, though)

I am having an issue that it looks like many other have run into trying to upgrade from IE8/9 to 10 or 11. Other Windows Updates go through fine but anytime I try to install IE 10 or 11 via Windows Update or from the offline installer it fails with the error 9C59.

A little backstory on this in case it helps.... We have a VDI environment so this is on our gold image. Months back we updated IE8 to IE9 but found that we were having compatibility issues with an internal web app and had to downgrade back to IE8 (via uninstalling the IE9 installed update). It appears that I can still re-install IE9 but anything beyond that fails with the info above.

I've tried many of the suggestions out there such as reinstalling the readiness tool, resetting windows update agent, etc but no luck so far. The interesting thing that I found is if i start fresh with this update again (so i start with IE8) , the "turn windows features on / off" shows IE 8 as an option to toggle on/off. However after I try the IE11 install and it fails, i still have IE 8 installed but the "windows features on/ off" window shows IE11...so its almost like it ALMOST gets there and fails.

Either way, if theres any help someone could have for this I'd greatly appreciate it! i'm happy to try and scans / logs that might help

thank you

andrew

Hi all,

I have been having issues with upgrading IE for quite some time now.  I currently have IE 8 installed.  Whenever I try to update to IE 9 or IE 11, I get error code 9c57.  I didn't care too much up until now, since I wanted to get Windows 10 and I cannot do it unless I upgrade IE.  I have tried downloading as standalones, used the FixIt tool, ran anti-malware checks.  Nothing is working.  I really do not want to do a clean install, I'm not sure I can even do one, I do not have a repair disk of any kind.  I'm listing the computer specs below.  Also, I have noticed that when I download some of the KB updates, they are still appearing in the updates list, as if they were never downloaded.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I will post and link whatever I need to.  Thanks.

May I please ask for assistance with a machine with failed Windows Updates?

Steps I have taken:

* I downloaded and ran Microsoft's System Update Readiness Tool (KB947821).

* I ran sfc /scannow. There were no integrity violations found.

* I checked for Windows Updates and found the following "Important" updates:Internet Explorer 11
KB2871997
KB3000483
KB3004375
KB3031432
KB3033929
KB3045999
KB3046269
* I ran the updates. It reports that 7 succeeded and 1 failed. The error found is: Code 9C57 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.Internet Explorer 11 is the update that "failed", but the seven other updates are offered again the next time I check for updates.

What can I do to get Windows Updates working again? Thank you kindly for any assistance.

Hi

I have Windows 7, 64 bit Lenovo ideapad that is not allowing system updates. This has been going on for awhile. I do some research on the problem and attempt to fix it myself. When I am unsuccessful I become frustrated so then I don't try again for several months. Meanwhile, my computer performance is getting worse and worse.

What I've tried so far:
Windows updater troubleshooter:Service registration missing or corrupt-FIXED
Problems installing recent updates-FIXED

Starting computer in clean boot to try to install updates.
Temporarily disabling antivirus software (AVG Antivirus Free Edition) and trying to run the updates.
I've downloaded and tried to run the SURT (not 100% sure if it actually DID run).
SFC scan did not find any integrity violations.
I was unable to upload CBS zip file to this thread. I tried a few times. Connection was reset.

I have not yet tried to restore the registry because I'm not 100% confident on how to do it although I did backup my computer on an external hard drive.

Please let me know if you require any additional information.

Any insight, advice or help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

First of all, I'm new here, so try to be patient as I stumble through the rules.
Normally I'm pretty good at fixing software issues, but this one has me stumped.

I have a machine running Win7 h/p which seems to have installed any other updates fine, but always chokes on IE10, throwing "Code 9C59 Windows Update encountered and unknown error."
(As a side note, I've *never* seen it encounter a *known* error.)

What I have done with no success:
Renamed the SoftwareDistribution folder.
Turned off Norton's 360.
Uninstalled IE9 and reinstalled (it said I had a newer version of IE9 installed *after* I had removed it and rebooted!)
Tried downloading and running the redistributable installer for IE10.

All failed. I have since downloaded and run SURT, run an sfc scan, and checked the Windows error log while I waited. There are loads of instances of this in the event viewer:

"Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070643: Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems."

I compressed a copy of the CBS folder and attached it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

So yesterday automatic Windows update installed IE10, today I noticed that links in certain applications open in IE10 instead of my configured default browser, which every link from this or any other application used to open in before that update and the reboot that followed the update.
I checked the Default Programs section in the system control panel, expecting maybe Microsoft wanted to get themselves in any more trouble with the EU and changing the default to IE. This was not the case however, all the associations were still pointing to the configured default browser, I noticed however I could not uncheck the defaults already set.
So despite the obvious configuration being correct, links would still open in IE10 even after yet another reboot.
I went ahead and checked the registry associations, and found that http(s) protocol as well as htm(l) filetypes were associated with Internet Explorer with various EditFlags set (presumably to prevent changing them through the user interface, or to ignore the user interface settings).

Seriously Microsoft? Don't you have enough trouble yet?

Have spent all afternoon trying to sort this and am close to giving up but thought I would post some logs in here in one last attempt. Have completed all important and optional Windows updates but the installation of IE10 fails everytime with error 9C59. Have tried manual download and same issues.
SFC scan has no issues.

CBS logs attached if anyone has any bright ideas. Please let me know if you require any more information.

Hey guys, I'm having an issue in my week old installation of Win7 x64 Home Premium. Things seem to run OK in general, and most Windows Updates install just fine, but there are 2 updates which I have so far been unable to install. There's an Important update listed to install IE10, and an optional one listed for IE11. The odd thing is, I have IE10 already installed. The error code I get when trying to install these updates (or even just the IE10 one as in the image below) is 9C48:

Attachment 311906

I ran the SURT tool and the SFC scan (no errors found as far as I can tell), then created CBS.zip, but it was too large (20 MB) for attaching here, so I uploaded to my Dropbox account here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1wd49llupy2odyb/CBS.zip

Any ideas on where to go from here? Should I just hide the IE10 update in Windows Update even though it's important? Thanks for any help you can offer!

-Eli

Hello, I have tried unsuccessfully to install IE10 on my Windows 7 64 bit system.

First, I wanted to say that yes, I am planning on following the posting instructions (system update readiness tool, and SFC scan posts), but first, I wanted to introduce the problem that I am having.

I was directed here after a search by this post: IE10 Installation Fails - Win 7 Pro 64-bit SP1 - Microsoft Community

I have submitted my own question to Answers.microsoft.com and simply linking that will show you what I have already done rather than typing it all out. Here it is: IE 10 will not install on Windows 7 64 bit Professional with SP1 - Microsoft Community

In this link you can see my error codes and whatnot. If you want me to post it all here, let me know.

So, here I am. I will run the System Update readiness tool tonight when I leave (I am at work). But in the meantime, if there is anything else you want from me, please let me know.

Thank you,
Dan

Hi folks

I found my way here after being unable to update to IE10 on Windows 7 (32)

the windows update error is:

"Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7
Installation date: ‎09/‎05/‎2013 10:22 AM
Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 9C59
Update type: Optional"

I have attached the CBS.zip file. (NB: when I pasted the copy of CBS folder to my desktop I got an error message that access to CBS.log was denied. Maybe this is normal?)

I'd be most grateful for any help you can give.

Regards

Chris

the copy/paste problem is common - which is one reason why I tend to prefer just collecting the CBS.log file on its own.
Copy the C:\Windows\logs\CBS\CBS.log file to your desktop, and compress it, then upload that.

Hi guys,

I ran into Windows Update Errors Codes 80073712 and 9C57 when I try to run Windows Update on Windows 7 Professional SP1.

I've attached with this post a screenshot of the Windows Update error as well as the CBS logs.

I ran the latest System Update Readiness Tool (Feb 2014) before trying Windows Update again but it still gave me errors.

I also ran a SFC Scan using Admin privileges and attached a screenshot of it (which produced no errors although it finished in less than 10 seconds).

Please let me know how I can fix it and if you guys need anymore info to aid in your diagnostics please let me know.

I appreciate all the help!

I tried to upload the CBS.zip file, but got "500 - Internal Server Error." The zip file is 9.5MB, and the table says a max of 8MB is allowed. Is it possible to shrink it more?

Been trying to install a few updates on my mom's laptop and keep having the same problems.

The 8E5E0F6 seems to be for both the security update for IE 8 (KB2962872) and installing IE 9.

8E5E0147 is the platform update for Windows 7 (KB2670838) which is preventing IE 11 from installing, error 9C57.

Ugh. Not that either of us is fussed about IE, but I would like to get rid of all the updates instead of just hiding them. And the platform update would be nice!

And only one error in SFC and I don't think it relates to any of this?

Hi,

I am trying to update my Dell T1650 with some Windows Updates using Windows Update. 2 updates keep failing: KB971033 and IE 10 for Windows 7 x64 base system. I have tried Microsoft Fix It and other potential problem solving scenarios and when my PC reboots the fixes try to install but fail and the reverts back to its previous state. I have run sfc/scannow and no errors popup. I have also run SURT and even though the PC reboots I still run into the same failures. When the updates fail I get Code 80070BC9 and Code 9C57. I have attached the output from the CheckSur log but it shows there are corruptions in two KB packages: KB2522422 and KB2778344. This is a new PC and I am hoping these issues will resolve the issues I have installing iTunes 11 on it. Thank you for your help!

Windows update for IE10 on Windows 7 64bit fails continuously with error code 9c59. I tried the stand alone updater with the same results. All other windows updates complete successfully, it's just IE10 that continually fails.

Don't know if this is related but I do have problems with IE8 (current browser). After a while, an open IE window will become non responsive and can't be closed out. I have to use task manager to close it down. I have sent off the reports to MS, but no solution has appeared.

I've attached the cbs file. Let me know what else I can do. Thanks.

A:Windows update for IE10 on win7 64bit fails with error code 9c59

There are no significant file errors in either SFC or CheckSUR logs.

In these cases, it has sometimes been a solution to uninstall IE9, reboot a couple of times, and then reinstall IE9 again, before installing IE10 successfully.
It's worth a try

I have a machine that refuses to update to Internet Explorer 10. It appears others have had the same error code which was caused by file corruption on the drive.

When trying through WU i receive the 9C59 error.

Trying the standalone .exe from microsoft doesn't install either.

I've ran SURT to no avail.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks...

There are a huge number of error present in the CBS logs.
Oddly, the SFC scan appears to have only found 18 components to check - rather than the more normal 12000+ !!
Please attempt another SFC scan, and upload the CBS.log file again.

If the same behaviour is repeated, I think you are looking at least at a repair install

Hello all. I've been having a similar problem to what has been addressed here already and I was hoping that I could get some help.

I am running IE10 on Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) and haven't really been having any problems except that Windows keeps trying to update to IE10 and when I let the update run it fails with error code 9C48.

I think the update keeps coming back because (1) in Windows Features it only shows IE9 and (2) in the installed updates it only shows IE9. I've tried uninstalling IE10, but there is nowhere to execute an uninstall command (no version of IE shows up in the Remove Programs menu in Control Panel).

I would like for the auto update to go away because these three features are synched (auto update, windows features and installed updates) rather than hiding the update and running the IE Update Blocker.

I have attached the CBS log and a screenshot of the error.

Thank you in advance.

A:IE10 Update Failed - Error 9C48

Both CheckSUR and SFC are free of problems - so we'll have to look elsewhere.

It may be a case of attempting to rip IE10 out by the roots...
command line uninstall IE10 on W7 may help with that.

Please post the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file and all IE*.log files

Hi, i repaired an error in windows update that the service windows update was impossible to start, the problem was in winsxs folder that all files about the service are corrupted, and dont allow me start the service and neither install programs about to fix windows update and services, well i was make a copy/paste from a clean partition with 0 errors and updated perfectly, to mi corrupted winsxs files and folder that SFC says that are corrupted, and the problem was solved, the service windows update now is working perfect, but after updated the system, just IE10 is impossible to install, with error #9C59 from windows update, i tried all the methods listed in microsoft, fix it, clean boot, etc, implemeting all files from IE10 cleaned partition that dont exist in mi windows, in same folders, manifest, catroot and winsxs folders and is impossible to solve, the problem i think that is in IE9 because SFC launch me this errors:

Hello Eki mate how did you try to uninstall IE9?

You might be better off downloading and saving IE10 to downloads (I keep my downloads on desktop - type download in search > Windows orb - and right click - send to desktop)

Run Revo uninstaller for IE9 then run IE10 from Downloads. Download Internet Explorer 10 - Download Internet Explorer 10

For fail safe download IE9 as well as a back up.

Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

I'm tidying up a friend's laptop but I'm having trouble installing IE10. Windows Update is giving me error code 9C44 and the standalone installer tells me that 'Internet Explorer 10 can only be installed on Windows 7 Service Pack 1 or higher'.

The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 build 7601 so everything should be ok. However, when viewing 'Computer' properties, the Windows Edition just shows as Windows 7 Home Premium with no mention of SP1. Looking through the list of installed updates, I can see Service Pack for Microsoft Windows (KB976932) is installed and the Service Pack install files are available in disk cleanup.

I have successfully run the SURT. KB2670838 is also installed.

The WindowsUpdate log references the following error: 0x80070643 which seems to suggest it's something to do with the .NET Framework but I'm not entirely sure.

I would appreciate any help and I will be happy to provide any more details.

Thanks.

Have attached the CBS and WindowsUpdate logs.

Edit: Currently running sfc. SFC said it found some issues but was unable to repair them. Have added the new CBS log (CBS-SFC.zip).

A:IE10 install error 9C44

The IE10_main.log file contains the following lines for each attempted IE10 installation:

Code:
00:00.062: INFO: Operating System: Windows Workstation: 6.1.7601
00:00.062: ERROR: System version and prerequisite validation checks failed.
00:00.062: INFO: Setup exit code: 0x00009C44 (40004) - Old OS Version.
It seems the installer is having trouble picking up SP1 on the laptop.

I have tried nearly all I have found for these errors, but nothing solved it.
As far as I understand, the SP1 is installed, but the update tool cannot find it, or something like this.
Also it could be a problem with the installed language packs, but I could not uninstall or install it again.

You are my last chance, I really do not want to do an inplace upgrade on this productive machine.

Thanks a lot.

Hi
I tried updating from IE9 to IE10 via windows update. When it started installing the whole thing stalled around 80% then nothing happened. So I left the computer alone for an hour, came back and nothing had changed. I couldn't close it or anything so I had to manually reboot. After that I can't install IE10 at all:

"Internet Explorer did not finish installing
Setup can't continue because a more recent version of Internet Explorer is installed on your computer"

Even after I downloaded the full 42MB IE10 install file from microsoft.com. I have checked the Programs & features - View installed updates list as suggested in a couple of help sites I've found online but there's not IE listed there at all. I'm using IE9 at the moment which seem unaffected except that the language has changed.

I got the 800706BE error code from windows update history.

I have tried to use Windows update to install IE10 (it was offered as an update).
Downloaded ok, but failed with error 9C59.
Followed instructions for manually installing all prerequisite for this update. Only one that failed was 2533623 (said it was not available for this environment).
Ran the SUR check. Shows some corrupted files that it was unable to fix. I have tried several times to upload the cbs.zip as instructed but it times out. Thanks for anything you can tell me. Environment is as stated in my profile, Win7 Pro SP on Intel Core 2 Duo.
(Edit I uploaded the Logs without the cabs, unfortunately as a .rar can you read that ok, sorry, miserably slow internet connection)

Noel,

I believe you are on the right track when saying to marvinnash33 that the Error 9c59 problem is a missing WinSXS IE9 assembly.
Cannot update to IE10 (or 11) Code 9C59
I tried to uninstall IE9 and return to the default IE8 included with Windows 7. Cleaning out temp files lost the original IE9 Install folders, so I used a MS-FIXIT utility named MicrosoftFixit.ProgramInstallUninstall.MATSKB.Run.EXE

Hi there,

I've got a lot of help from reading these forums in the past but this one has got me lost so I thought I'd post for help.

Basically as it says - Windows 7 home premium. Had to fix a booting problem (did via startup repair) and it now has corrupt files that seem to be causing problems with installing IE11 and two other updates. It says that the two updates install successfully (KB2871997 and KB2882822) but then I get prompted for them again at the next login. Internet Explorer 11 fails with code 9c57.

The problem seems to be corrupt missing files. I ran SFC /scannow and Checksur and have attached the CBS directory as a zip file (see attached).

Any help would be very much appreciated as I am going to have to go back to Factory settings as I am lost with this one. Thanks.

I opened up and saw the windows update options which included:
- Cumulative security update for IE9 kb2809289 (27Mb) (ticked by default)
- IE10 (69.1Mb) (unticked by default)

Would be ok to untick the ie9 update and tick the ie10 - which would mean that windows update will uninstall ie9 and install ie10?

A:Optional windows update IE10 and IE9

I found out why IE10 update option was unticked by default. It happens to need a platform update installed first which can cause problems. I'll let IE9 be for the meantime.

ok, I believe this is due to some bad windows update, but there isn't a list that i can locate to uninstall.

I've already tried force uninstall all remnants,

using:

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*9.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

after a reboot, I will get IE8., then I am able to only install ie10. (I've already tried installing ie9/ie11 with the antivirus uninstalled with no effect)

in the windows update screen.
ie11 fails with 9c59,
ie9 fails with 3715

When I run IE10, it will load up, for a while (white completely devoid of any text/icons/menu) then close with no error message (even in eventlog) , I've tried reset to default settings/restore advanced settings from control panel\internet options\advanced tab.

Hey all,

So I am currently reinstalling Windows on my dad's old laptop after the hard drive decided up die on us, and I stumbled on a problem that's a bit too hard for me to fix.

Namely, I am completely unable to install any Windows Update. Not even MSE will install.

I tried running SURT, but got error code 0x8000247
I also tried running SFC /SCANNOW, it ran the verification fase until 98% and then stated that there where unfixable problems.

The displayed error codes are:
In WU: "8024A000"
In SURT: "0x8000247"
Whilst installing MSE: "0x80070643".

Attached you will find CBS.log and MSINFO with my system specs.
Cheers and many thanks in advance,
Nommy

A:Windows Update error code 8024A000; unable to install any update.

That's very reminiscent of similar errors in Win7 - and I wouldn't be surprised to see it being non-genuine.
Please post an MGADiag report BEFORE doing the below potential fixes.

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Storage Matrix Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here -
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&DwnldID=17882

(IATA89ENU.exe)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

If nothing has changed, try this...

Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt

NET STOP CRYPTSVC
REN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 CATROOT2OLD
NET START CRYPTSVC

once complete, leave the system alone for at least an hour to rebuild the database, then reboot, and run another MGADiag report and post the results.

If neither of them work, we'll re-evaluate.

I'm running Windows 7 Pro on my Dell laptop. This laptop has been in storage and hasn't been turned on in a year. Originally, all I wanted to do was use iTunes. The problem:

It made me update it in order to use it, but I got an error.

I un-installed it and tried downloading a fresh copy and I get the following error:
After some Googling, I read that not having the latest Windows .NET framework might be the problem. Sounded reasonable so I fired up Windows Update but that gave me an error and wouldn't start checking for updates.

I managed to get it to check for updates, but now when it starts the process, I get the following:
I Googled the error code "8007007E" and tried a few things to try and fix it.

I downloaded the windowsupdatediagnostic.diagcab, found on Microsoft's site, here:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates#1TC=windows-7

I download the system readiness tool, found here:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3132
I tried a clean boot.

I tried renaming the Windows Update Softwaredistribution folder.

None of this worked.

I ran the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) and the results said I had bad files, but I don't know how to fix them. It generated a CBS log, which is too large for me to post (10MB) , so I've uploaded to dropbox,... Read more

Our users are currently running IE9 due to some things they need to access which have not been compatible with more up-to-date versions.  We are ready to upgrade to IE10, but I have been unable to find any downloads from Microsoft for that browser;
everything attempts to push toward IE11, which will not work for us.  Is a direct download available for IE10, or must we upgrade to IE11 and then downgrade in order to get the desired version?

Hi, first time posting here, so please tell me if I'm missing anything needed.

When looking up how to get my free upgrade to Windows 10, I found that the taskbar icon for registering was not there. I then found out that it was part of an update, so I went to Windows Update to install it. Upon trying to install them, I received 8E5E03FB and 9C57 errors for all of them. With Windows, I have always had the occasional issue of updates not installing, but the issues would always seem to get themselves fixed at some point. Several of these updates have been failing to install for at least several weeks at this point though, making me suspect its something more. I have a few suspicions as to what the reason may be:

1. A few weeks ago, I purchased my current SSD, and used Samsung Magician to clone the OS over. (I did a thorough drive clean prior to the cloning)
2. Although I'm 99% sure I didn't do this, its possible that while cleaning the drive prior to the clone, I accidentally deleted something I shouldn't have.
3. I used CCleaner a lot, and it possibly removed something it shouldn't have.
4. The KB2670838 update and Internet Explorer were uninstalled and hidden about 6 months ago when I found the update caused a game I owned to be unplayable. (Game in question is Lost Planet Colonies Edition)

Now for the list of failed updates and their respective errors:

Hello all,
The problem I seem to be having has to do with Internet Explorer(specifically, "Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems") repetitively and "successfully" updating through Windows Update EVERY DAY. Each day when I start up my PC, Windows Update comes up notifying me that this same important update is ready to be downloaded and installed. I have done two different things: Downloaded and installed the update through Windows Update normally and also ignored it while regular use and allowed it to download and install prior to shutdown of the pc. However, for about 10 days straight now, whenever I start my pc back up, the SAME update comes up saying it needs to be installed.

Does anyone here have any clue as to what could be going on? If there is any additional information I could provide for one of you awesome men or women to help me out, I will do my best to comply.

Thanks in advance!
Tyler

Windows Updates (you know, the one recommended to run Automatically) installed IE11 which brakes many websites, which created quite frustrating situation and highlights why Windows 8 is a complete failure, as is 8.1.
The only way that IE11 can be uninstalled is via the Turn Windows Feature On or Off, as it does not appear in the Uninstall Programs list. When I did that iexplore.exe got deleted, cannot find in any method suggested in the many online post about people having same issue trying to downgrade from IE10 to 9, so essentially I have no IE now. Thank God for Google Chrome! Trying to install IE10 manually gives a "IE10 is already installed message", but of course it can?t be launched without iexplore.exe, and the only option I?m left with is to turn IE11 back On. Nice huh? I have read that IE is now part of the Windows 8 OS so I'm SOL.
Thanks to Microsoft I now have a $700 paper weight as some sites I absolutely need (Bank, School, job WebMail which is Outlook and that doesn't even work anymore) that require IE do not work on IE11.
Of course according to Dell downgrading out of this IE8 frustration is out of the question, so I'm thinking of wiping it clean and installing a server OS and be done with it.
So oh great Microsoft Developers, can you help me find a way to make YOUR LAPTOP (obviously not mine) work for me. Please note that all the methods of searching for Explorer, Internet Eplorer, iexplore.exe, and so forth in order to PIN IT to my desktop have ... Read more

Hi,Please accept my apologies if this is not quite the category to post this problem...I am unable to install some Internet Security software or work with a number of web pages correctly as the Java is not working in Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 8 of our machine?Windows Updates are current, I have tweaked all sorts of ActiveX and Plug-In options on and off within "Internet Options" and the "Java Control Panel", and the "Verify Java Version" link ( http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp ) works fine in displaying the installed JRE version within Firefox, and Opera etc.I have un-installed and re-installed Java, and have the latest version, even trying 64-bit and 32-bit versions of it both individually and concurrently, and am working in the Desktop and not Metro version of IE 10.I even reset IE, tried compatibility views, and disabled other Add-Ons etc., and have also tried to find a solution online where I notice several people have also had this issue, but am getting nowhere? Thus I am stumped and very very angry and frustrated?Any suggestions?

Hi

After your great help with my last problem i'm back with another (the price of success!)

Windows 7 ultimate - some updates are installing OK, some are being repeated after a successful installation & the IE10 update repeatedly fails with error code 9C59.

I've tried MS Fixit. I've done a repair install of Win7 ultimate, which improved things a little (before that, updates KB2667402 & KB982018 would continually fail).

CBS.zip & windowsupdate.log are attached.

Here's some background which may be relevant:
I started with Win 7 pro, which turned out to be non-genuine (ebay!). Windows updates stopped working because it was non-genuine. Microsoft supplied a new copy of Win7 ultimate, which I installed via a custom installation. I didn't do a clean install because I used a 3rd party product call PCmover to include all applications & settings in the upgrade to Win7 ultimate. All has been OK with Win7 ultimate except the updates.

THanks

Hi, I believe I'm at the end of my rope. Since some MS update around June, I've been really hosed on my Windows 7 Home Premium x64 machine. I was not able to install IE 10, so I hid the update, and now I cannot install IE 11, just the same. It errors out with the 9C57 error, which indicates uninstalled prerequisites. When I attempt to manually install the stated prereqs, the error is "the update is not applicable to your computer."

Here's where I'm at, and what I've tried:

1. sfc /scannow is clean, no integrity violations.
2. MS FixIt shows no errors.
3. CheckSUR is clean, No errors detected.
4. A Windows 7 Home Premium x64 repair install fails; it goes through the entire process with multiple reboots, then restores the old system and claims that "This version of windows cannot be installed." The installation bits & version (Home Premium SP1 U x64) match my installed version.

Any assistance would be very greatly appreciated. I've been deep in this for too long, and could use another set of eyes. I have attached my CBS.zip, also with the %systemroot%\IE11_main.log showing the prereq patch failures, and the %systemroot%\Logs\WU_IE11_Packages.log.

Thank you so much and happy holidays,

Hi,
I have been having some recurring problems with the attempts to install some automatic windows updates.

Security Update for Microsoft Office Acess 2007
Security Update for Microsoft Office Outlook Junk Email Filter

I am not able to install these updates, maybe any other updates in general. After attempting the install the following install window says, "Windows Update encountered an unknown error." Next to it an error code 80070643. Microsoft provides a solution to the problem, by re-installing Microsoft NET. Framework. They also provide a link to the program NET. Framework cleanup tool that enables you to uninstall NET. Framework, and it's components.

I followed Microsoft's instructions to solve the issue, though I've been put at a standstill. I have used the NET. Framework Cleanup tool to uninstall NET. Framework and it's components (states that it uninstalls all versions, 1.1 SP1 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5.) Then afterwards instructed to reinstall NET. Framework, specifically in an order, 3.5 then, 1.1, then 1.1 SP1. I start with 3.5, then as the installation starts it says that to contiunue installation I must turn off or on windows features in the Control Panel. I do so and turn off all Windows features. Then continue and it again states to turn off features in the Control Panel.

I wasn't able to continue the process, and I am also concerned that this is the same error that made me unable to install Microsoft Security Essentials, (as t... Read more

A:error code 9c57 when installing IE11

Your SFC log is interesting - something had ripped out WIndwos Defender (or MSE?) by the roots, instead of just switching it off.

The remaining errors after SFC had fixed those, are caused by KB3022345, and can be ignored - although KB3068708 will update that one, and cause the same errors in a higher version number.
If you want to clear those errors, uninstall KB3022345, and hide both that, and KB3068708 so that they don't reinstall until MS gets around to fixing the errors.

The background CBS data gives some interesting errors, which I don't recall seeing before...

Hi everyone and thanks in advance for any help you may provide in this matter. I have a customer that is using Win 7 Pro x64. We are not able to get IE10 to install. At first she stated she was getting the 9c59 error. I however, have not seen this. I went onsite today and tried to install the update. I ran the Windows update diagnostic which found a fixed a few items. Afterwards I made sure to remove any toolbars or unneeded software from programs and features. I also went and downloaded all of the prerequisite updates for IE10.

IE10 appears to install and goes through the process. At the end it just says it failed and does not give me any error code.

The system is running Symantec endpoint protection which I disabled during the install. I did run SFC and no errors were found.

Attached is the CBS log and CheckSUR log.

I will not be onsite with this issue but I am setting up remote access and will be able to remote in to try fixes.

Hi guys. I'm usually one to find my solutions in forums and never actually post, but this time I'm sort of stuck. Between Microsoft not giving me a lot of info to go on and the wide range of "possibilities" here, I'm not sure what to do.

Here's what's up. I was running Windows 8 Pro x64 with my OS installed on a 128gb SSD and my user files located on a separate hard drive. This was done after a good amount of research and by following a step by step tutorial. It worked/works fine in this configuration and I've never had a problem.

As everyone in my position found out, 8.1 requires the user files to exist on the same drive as the OS, effectively making my configuration impossible to update to 8.1. I figured I'd just wait it out and see if someone found a workaround and, lo and behold, people have. We are in the process of upgrading our server and I upgraded a workstation from XP home to XP Pro. Before the upgrade, this workstation was having strange problems - installed Ad-Aware & Spyware Doctor, everything okay. Looks like a previous install of Norton was corrupted because there were two (Norton Antivirus 2003 & 2005) installs and neither one was functioning. The error when trying to install updates, or Norton for that matter, is Error 1327. Invalid Drive: H:\. I followed the directions from Symantec to fix that, then I got Error 1324. The folder path 'My Pictures' contains an invalid character. I figured that after I fixed this error that I would get another and another for each path, so I went back and renamed the cd-rom to D, like it was before. I continued to research and it looks like I have a .net framework problem but nothing seems to work to fix it! Should I just wipe hard drive and reinstall everything? Problem is, I can't do it during work hours as the guy needs his computer...oh well! The only update I am having trouble installing is .net framework 1.1 sp1 and it tells me that the upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows installer because the program to be upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program - errors 0x66A and 0x663. Any ideas anyone? I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks

A:Can't install windows update - error 1327??

Hey, I've been having the same problem too! Any news on resolving this issue yet? I've been having this .net framwork update 1.1 failures since 2 months ago and while digging to fix my problem, I found that you and I aren't the only ones w/ these issues * Refer to Windows Update Newsgroup for details*

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkID=9581.

In the beginning, my .net update would read it is in installing process for hours yet w/ any progress. Eventually, I found out some weeks later that the original update download had "zero" info; there was no .Net update downloaded on my computer but this particular folder must have been within my computer registry and therefore, Microsoft Window Updates kept on detecting an empty folder - causing this Installation failure.

WOA - I wouldn't go so far as to wipe your drive and/or do reinstallation ( the whole 9 yards) since there are so many of us sharing the same problem. Relevantly, I am starting to conclude that these .Net Update are "NOT" from this side but the other --The Microsoft .Net Framwork 1.1 updates itself. Do as the Old saying: ]" Don't fix it if it is not broken" and it seems your system is doing fine! Just Hang Tight until there are further findings, and in the meantime just keep a closer watch on your system security while connected to a network and THE CLOSEST WATCH especially WHILE U R on the WWW. : ) Also, I would secure all documents into a private folder ... Hello and good day to everyone on the Forum,

I was hoping I could get some help, with regards to my HP Pavilion Media Center Desktop..I recently had to perform a clean/fresh install of Windows XP, using the system recovery disks that came with my computer..Once everything has been re-installed, my computer is equipped with Windows XP Media Center Edition and Internet Explorer 6 with Service Pack 2..The problem I'm having, is once I go into Windows Update to re-install all the necessary updates..I receive the message: The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view - Error Number: 0x8024400A ..No updates are shown or given to me..Also not sure if it helps, but my recovery disks come with Norton Internet Security 2006, which is outdated..So, I'm not sure if this is causing some kind of conflict..Or maybe I'm doing something wrong when I'm performing the clean/fresh install of Windows XP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated..Also, please keep in mind that my computer skills are average at best..Thanking everyone in advance for their time and patience.

Check to make sure the clock and date are set right first. Windows Update doesn't like messed up times.Otherwise use UVK and go to system repair, and repair windows update. Very useful tool I use all the time with the computers I see.

I have never had a problem before with windows updates. however, It says I need to download that windows validation tool so I click on it to download and install and it goes through everything like it should then says it failed to install, 4 times now it comes up error 0X80070005 I went through the thing where Microsoft is suppose to help you they get info and then help you solve it, I stilll haven't heard a thing from them. The funny part is that I downloaded the windows defender (Microsoft Antispyware) and to do so I had to go throught the windows validation and no problem it went through it and I downloaded it. Is that the same thing as this windows update? anyway I can't find error 0X80070005 can anyone help because I got thinking that I haven't had any windows updates for awhile I wonder if I can't get any until I get this downloaded? I'm helping a friend fix their HP Pavilion dv2610us laptop. The laptop has Vista Home Premium 32bit with SP2. I've installed all the missing Microsoft updates except the following update KB982799.

Download details: Security Update for Windows Vista (KB982799)

Windows update has tried numerous times to install it numerous times since the first attempt back in October, 2010 and it always failed with the error 80070020.

I tried following the instructions on the following page on how to address error 80070020 but none of the proposed solutions worked.

Windows Update error 80070020

Here are the things I've tried.
1) I tried disabling both Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials real time protection and then running Windows Update and I got the error 80070020.
2) I downloaded the update from the link above and then tried installing it in Safe Mode (as suggested the Microsoft.com link above) but I got the error "Installer encountered an error 0x8007043c. This service cannot be started in Safe Mode".
3) I tried installing it after a selective startup (as suggested the Microsoft.com link above) without startup items and only the Microsoft services and I got the error 80070020. This was NOT in Safe Mode.
4) I tried installing it after a selective startup without startup items and only the Windows Update service selected and I got a message "The update does not apply to your system". I know this update applies to my system since Windows Update a... Read more

A:Windows update error 80070020 during install of KB982799

Ok, I figured out which Microsoft service was needed so that I could run the KB982799 update file that I downloaded without getting the "The update does not apply to your system" message but I still got the 80070020 error message. The service that was needed was the "Windows Modules Installer" service. I basically started windows with no startup items and only a few services needed and I still got the 80070020 error. Here is a list of the services that were started.

Windows Modules Installer
Windows Update
Task Scheduler
Group Policy Client

This is the bare minimum of services needed to even start the install process but it still failed with error 80070020. Does anybody have any ideas?

Windows update stopped working after I restored the OS to the factory setup (using the built in one key recovery button). Windows appears to be working fine, but I cannot seem to install any updates (manually or through windows update).

Trying to install SP1 (for example) from the internet gives the error "Error_Install_Failure(0x80070643)".

Trying to update using windows update yields the following:
"To check for updates you must first install an update for windows update"
When I press "Install now", It tries to install this update, and comes back with the error "Windows could not search for new updates Code 80070643"

- I have tried using the Microsoft fixit related to this code, and the suggestions on the following two threads:

Hello,
I'm hoping some one here can help. I have tried everything.

I'm trying to install "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based systems (KB2879017)".

Windows Update throws error code 0x800700D.

So I run Microsoft System Update Readiness Tool (SUR) and I find the following message in the CheckSUR.log file:

Dear Sevenforums,

I just installed a new HDD by WD into a HP DV7T (2008), everything has been going well up until I tried to Update Windows. I did not retain anything from the previous installation as the previous hard drive up and quit on me!

I activated windows and had it confirmed as genuine.

I followed the instructions posted on another page and tried to install SURT and got an error: 0xc8000247.

I was hoping for some suggestions, Direct X , Java, MSE and Mechwarrior Online wouldn't install.

Perhaps a driver issue?

Have a great day all!

Hello, I've been have several issues with my laptop ever since I swapped over my faulty C drive by Ghosting it onto another HDD. My troubleshooters all fail to run when I try to start them and Windows Update will not work despite the fact that I've checked and re-checked that the service is running. I've run sfc twice now with reboots in between and I've tried to repair install windows 7 using the tutorial provided by this forum, but I keep running into errors while trying to fix the problem.

I do not want to run a clean install unless I absolutely have to, but repairing it doesn't seem to work. I have the CBS log and the error codes from the troubleshooters if you need them.

A:Windows 7 repair install failed; error when trying to run Update

Start by running a couple of Startup Repairs to make sure the boot files are in order.

Post back a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image - Windows 7 Help Forums.

Did the clone hold activation after cloning? Check at Computer>Properties activation link.

If these are okay, then let's move to addressing the UPdates. Try each of these tutorials:
reset Windows Update components
System Update Readiness Tool fixes Windows Update errors in Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008
Windows Update - Reset - Windows 7 Forums

Report back the results of each of these steps.

Is this the original Asus factory preinstall with the bloatware and duplicate utilities that have better versions built into Win7? If so this is a corrupt install to begin with that smothers Win7 native performance. So I'd stronglly consider doing the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 as you'd go from one of the worst possible installs to one of the best. Once you've done it you can preserve a backup image so you never have to do it again.
