Why has my genuine Windows 7 Home Premium turned 'Un-genuine'?

Q: Why has my genuine Windows 7 Home Premium turned 'Un-genuine'?

Hi Sevenforums,

I've bought an Asus Laptop last year with a genuine copy of windows 7 Home Premium. But, as of today, it has turned 'un-genuine'. Why is it so? What can I do?

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I have a Dell Inspiron Laptop that appeared to be having hard drive issues, and we needed more space. Like many times before using clonezilla we cloned it over to a new disk went through and everything seemed to be fine. A couple of days later we are getting the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Pops. Windows still shows activated. We have gone through the system a couple of times with chkdsk sfc/ scannow and MGADIAG. There are tampered files that I am guessing were corrupted from the disk issues, but I just am not finding any great solution to repair them, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Results of MGADIAG:

About a week ago I cloned my old 500GB HDD to a new 512 SSD for the simple benefits of changing to a SSD using Acronis True Image HD 2014. Everything seemed to be going fine, but I started receiving notifications that Windows is not Genuine. MGADiag shows corrupted files, but my Windows 7 was a clone of the OEM version, nothing has been changed since the day I purchased the computer. It appears that I am Licensed, but not validated.

I have looked at a ton of feedback on this, but cannot seem to find a solution to my problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. I am on a Gateway SX2370. I am a COMPLETE newb at computers. So, first things first. I know i should try a system restore, but i have no restore points and i've had this computer since around last christmas-ish.

This is how it all went down: I was playing a game and since my internet was disconnected, i unplugged my router and replugged it. It connected, but now the windows glass color changed to complete silver. I feared the worst and tried replugging some things fully in since some were loose. My computer automatically shut off, even though nothing completely essential to keeping the system on was plugged out. I turned it back on, only to see HIM, the message of Non-Genuine windows. I searched solutions to this problem, eventually coming to the realization that i should just post on a forum about it since im more likely to find a better solution relating to my computer itself. Here is the MSDiag:

A:Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Genuine Problem

It's likely that a system restore is the only option you have - the error is
Licensing Data-->
On a computer running Microsoft Windows non-core edition, run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0xC004F012' to display the error text.
Error: 0xC004F012

Which could simply mean a problem with the licensing Store, ot it could mean a lot more.

Try the Licensing store fix first...

Please first try recreating the Licensing Store.
Recreate the Licensing Store
1) Click Start button.
2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
4) Type: net stop sppsvc (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, this is ok.
5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
8) Type: net start sppsvc
9) Type: slui.exe
10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear.
You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically.,
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA Sticker on the machine's case.

I had to reinstall my OS due to a hard drive failure about a month ago. When I did I used the re-installation disk that came with computer. Everything was fine until yesterday. Out of nowhere I am getting a message that my copy of Windows is not genuine. I tried system restore and used a restore point that was created right after I installed the OS. Still no good. Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:This copy of windows 7 x64 home premium is not genuine

Open the System control panel. (Hot key: Windows key + the "pause" key.)

Is Windows activated? (Near the bottom of the window.)

I'd expect a factory restore to be pre-activated, but if it's not, try activating using the key from the Win7 license sticker.

Hi,

Firstly, sorry if this is the wrong forum for this but I wasn't sure where to start this thread?

Anyway, I'm trying to work out whether I've purchased a ligitimate copy of Windows 7 Home Premium. The seller on ebay is adamant that it was bought at a branch of Currys in the UK. My suspicions were aroused when I noticed that the hologram on the 64bit disk can be peeled off (image5) - according to the microsoft website these holograms should be 'in' the disk and therefore should be seamless. The hologram on the rear of the 64bit disk has almost completely come off as well (image6). The hologram is intact on the rear of the 32bit disk (image7). I'm unfamiliar with COA's so don't know if this is genuine or not either (image2)?

I'm getting very strong feeling from the seller that they are adamant that this is a genuine copy and that they have even been in touch with Microsoft to make sure the key is usable (it was originally installed on a computer which is now not working and destroyed). Microsoft have said to them that the key is genuine. They also said that have the original receipts from Currys as well. I've looked through their ebay history and have a brilliant rating. The seller does seem genuine and are not trying to pull a fast one...

I am honestly confused and don't want to get into a huge argument with the seller if they are being absolutely honest.

I'm VERY confused

A:Is my Windows 7 Home Premium Retail Genuine or Fake?

Welcome to our forum dw2016.

From what I can tell from your pictures it looks proper.
It does appear to be very old DVD because it does not include SP-1.
Do keep in mind the crooks are very good at making illegal copies.
Did this DVD come with a matching COA key?
How did you come by this Microsoft DVD.

Have you used this DVD to install Windows 7 yet?

I have a Dell Studio XPS 8100 running Windows 7 Home Premium that warns it is not genuine. Basically problem started couple month ago. My PC started to crash nearly everyday. I checked for solutions on your forum and decided to re-install Windows7. But main problem (silly me)- I installed one of my family Windows ( we have 4 PC) . When I checked COA sticker and my diagnostic printout ,I find -that is not the same! I find my original Widows7 but I don't want ( if it's possible) re-install all ...again. What can I do now ? Thank you

Hi All,

I got a laptop with Windows 7 Home premium edition on it from a friend.
Turning it on I am able to reach the normal screen with the welcome word, however
after that instead to see the normal Windows 7 desktop I see a black screen the mouse cursor
and a text on the right bottom saying that that copy of Windows 7 (build 7601) is not genuine.
As a general information, under the laptop there is product key code.
Before writing here I just checked the entire system for malware viruses and so on using
the kaspersky rescue disk without finding any problems.

The following is the output from the MGADiag tool. After clicking on the Copy button however
I got a message from the tooll saying that were problems copying text...

Thank you

Hello, I'm working on helping my cousin out with his laptop that has Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. He got the laptop from a friend and wanted to do a clean install of Windows so he used my copy of Windows 7. He had the same OS before wiping the hard drive and installing a new copy. It's been fine for about a month after installing it. Now it's saying "Build 7601 This copy of windows is not genuine" on the bottom right corner on the screen with a black background. A:Windows 7 Home Premium Build 7601 This copy of windows is not genuine

He needs to change the Product Key to the one on HIS COA sticker on the machine's case.
The Key currently in use is System Builder one, rather than an OEM_COA one - which means that it's probably yours.

You then need to uninstall and reinstall the WAT update -

Close all open windows.
Open an Elevated Command Prompt window, and type the following command

wusa /uninstall /kb:971033

and hit the Enter key
Accept the warnings/confirmations, and wait for it to complete

copy and paste the output (if any) from the command prompt window to a reply here,
Reboot

reinstall the update from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971033
Reboot

run another MGADiag report, and post it.

Hi,
Newbie here. I managed to read a few threads and apply the excellent directions in an attempt to solve the "Windows is not genuine" issue on a Toshiba Satellite C660 laptop computer.

I have successfully used SLMGR to instal the product key which was confirmed by Windows Script Host dialogue box.

I still have the dreaded "Windows ..not genuine" message in the lower right corner of the display.

I have run the Diagnostic tool and pasted the results below. I hope i have complied with posting requirements.

You've had a Trusted Store Tamper - often the result of malware (or conflicting AV's)

What Anti-Virus programs have ever been installed?

Please download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free version) from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ - UNtick 'Enable free trial of MBAM PRO' at the end of the installation - and update it, then run a full scan in your main account, and Quick scans in any other user accounts.

Delete everything it finds

post back with a new MGADiag report, and we'll see if anything has changed

Hope someone can offer me some advice please. I got asked to look at a relative's laptop which for a few months has been reporting that the copy of Win 7 Home Premium 32 bit is not genuine. The laptop originally had Vista Home Basic on it and he had it repaired and updated to Win 7 Home Premium by someone he knew. It was fine for about 2-3 years then apparently a few months ago started reporting Windows is not genuine.

Below is the MGADiag

Many thanks.

Hi All,
I have a very long history of update and activation problems on this computer in the last year.
I posted my problem on the Microsoft forums and a very nice, generous, patient person has been helping me troubleshoot it for a while. You can read through that post for a complete history of what I have tried so far.

Alas, he was not able to solve the problem for me, and suggested a post in this forum for some more expert help. Here is the most recent output from the MGADiag Tool:

I bought a Windows 7 Pro (32 & 64 bit) full retail version thinking that it was the real thing (because everything about it looked like it was the real Microsoft product, plus it was sealed). When I installed it I tried to activate it at once and got the following message: "the product key you typed cannot be used to activate windows on this computer." Re-entered the product key several times just to be sure I typed it correctly, still the same message. I called Microsoft here in the Philippines (or probably their office in Asia) and the agent asked for the product key to be verified. Turned out it has already been used since 2012. The agent told me that there are counterfeits that could look as good as the real thing. She advised me to have it replaced or refunded. My problem is that I don't know if the store will allow it. I think I remember them saying they have a no refund policy. And if they replace it, it could very well be another counterfeit. Is there any way to hold them responsible? Thanks in advance for any help.

A:I bought windows 7 that looked genuine but turned out to be pirated

Try to return and refund it and say the key is already been used and show them proof, If they don't then you can go ahead and call OMB so you can have a talk with them about this.

There was a 5 page thread on trying to downgrade from Ultimate to Win 7 Pro but I thought I should start a new thread. I have a thead on a different forum but was hoping someone here might know the answer.

Users computer says Windows is not genuine, was 7 pro, in Sept 2013 we upgraded to Ultimate to use Bitlocker. System bought from Dell, used Anytime Upgrade to Ultimate. I spent ages on phone with Microsoft today, they have completely agreed both copies are valid, and the computer is saying they're not, in error, they will not admit that it's a Windows Update that caused it likely.

They took over remotely, and 30 minutes later gave up, none of the methods worked. She then advised me to BUY a copy of 8.1 and do a clean install. I don't want 8.1, if we have to reinstall I'd rather do Win 7 Pro again(same valid code) and then up to Ultimate again(same valid code), or go to Win 10 when it comes out. Of course you can't upgrade a "non genuine" copy of Windows 7 to win 10, even if it is in fact genuine.

We don't want to have to reinstall. MS also told me I need to downgrade to Win 7 Pro, put in the code, then upgrade to Ultimate. To do that they said I have to do a clean install. I've seen all the links to Windows Downgrader but we aren't exactly thrilled to be advised to use a 3rd party app. I have not tried the registry suggestions yet, I'm not particularly comfortable dealing with the registry. Two questions.

If MS had been willing to just give me a new U... Read more

Hi

I have an ASUS notebook (U31F i5 with 4 GB mem) which until recently I used only occasionally. It has Legit Office 2010, but no CD/DVD drive. My desktop hard disk crashed in a big way so I am using the notebook as my main computer.

It has just recently started throwing up messages that my Windows Homw Premium (x64) is not genuine. It is gebuine OEM and activated (back when I got the notebook), and I have not tampered in any way.

I have had a look at some other threads on this forum on this issue, and so have dowloaded and run MGAdiag.exe, but to my inexpert eye, it appears to report everything OK.

I have pasted text in below, and would welcome more expert advice as to whther I have missed something, and if not, what should I do next?

regards

Hello and thanks in advance to whoever can help me.

A couple of days ago I was downloading some video files and since I wasn't paying attention I clicked an .exe instead of a video file. I know this makes me the idiot, but I have beaten myself up over it for a while and cannot fix this myself so I am now humbly coming forward with my idiocy to get my Toshiba Qosmio back up and health. So here's the deal:

I got the popup that I wasn't running a genuine copy of Windows 7 64 bit Pro (which I am...came from the factory). Tried to resolve it online and the only answer I got was to buy another copy of Windows, which I don't really want to do. Then I tried to run Windows Update and I get random error codes as to why I can't. I tried a system restore and got a message that there is an error on my hard drive, to run chkdsk. Tried that, nothing. Even when Windows rebooted it wouldn't let me. So then I boot towards the safe mode menu and see an option for Windows Repair, choose that and click on system restore. I pick a restore point a week or so ago and try to restore. Negative. Got a message that not only could it not restore but now that restore point was damaged (hooray). Tried rebooting to that screen and all I get is black: pointer works with touch pad but not mouse. Tried booting into safe mode and I couldn't get explorer.exe to run and had no icons. Then rebooted to Last Known Good Configuration which is where I am now.

Hello, I am using an Acer Aspire 5738G, which originally came with Windows Vista Home Premium. Later I got the free Windows 7 Home Premium update disc and never encountered any problem.

But since the last 1 month or so, I've been getting this 'Windows not genuine' message on a random basis. Microsoft Security Essentials says that it will disable itself within 30 days if the issue is not resolved. When I click on 'Resolve issue', an IE window is opened and takes me to Microsoft's website. When I do all the steps explained, everything goes back to normal and my Windows is again considered as genuine.

I am a bit worried, although I can always solve the problem, it still irritates me when I see the 'Windows not genuine' message. What could be the cause of the problem and what is the solution?

Thanks in advance.

I go to Control Panel - System, then windows activates itself again, turning genuine again. This happened two times, yesterday and today. Is this a bug or what?

Hello all, and thank you for the oppurtunity to post.
I got a Pop-up, titled Microsoft Security Essential, which states I am infected by a Trojan. At the same time I was surprised to see a Windows Genuine notification , which stated that because I have made major changes since I first loaded Windows XP Pro, I now have to reactivate windows. Is this for real? The Microsoft notice will not go away no matter what I do, it sits in the middle of the screen and resists all efforts to close. If this is a Virus I am sure I will need Help in removing. Thanking you in advance,

A friend of mine has a Windows XP Home Edition machine running Service Pack 2. She called me along this afternoon because she has been having problems with the machine for several weeks! Anyway this machine runs Norton Internet Security Center which was up to date as of a few weeks ago, but because of her problem it no longer seems able to complete its update process although she has 322 days left of her subscription. I tried several times but each time the update process terminated after doing some of the downloads. There is also an icon in her system tray area (right hand side) which refers to the non-genuine windows message and tells her to clickon it to resolve the non-genuine Windows problem.

The problem she has is that on boot up she gets a message saying that her version of Windows is not genuine (it is since it was supplied with the machine 4 years ago) and what is more it talks about Windows XP Professional whereas she has Windows XP Home. In addition to these messages which give her the option to resolve the problem now or later, she gets pop-ups at various times saying that her copy of Windows is not genuine, maybe counterfeit etc.

In addition when these problems started to occur she says she was no longer able to connect to the internet (she has a router and broadband) - I noticed that her connection was disabled so I re-enabled this and we can now connect to the Internet.

She also has problems with IE (think it is V8) whereby it comes up with an error aft... Read more

My HP Pavilion dv6 laptop suddenly has decided Windows is not Genuine. I put in the number on the bottom of the laptop and it says it is verified and good. But then after a while it goes back to saying it is not Genuine. I am out of the country at the moment, and I need to fix this in the meantime. I do Slui 3 and fix it, because if I try to go online to do this it won't finish it up, it just sits there loading. I haven't had issues with this laptop at all otherwise. Been using it for years. Bought it brand new. I do have virus protection but I am beginning to wonder if this is a virus? Or something like that? You would think that after entering the right number and getting the yes this is valid that it would be fine?

My computer (from lenovo) came with windows 7 (home). Because I run a domain within my lan, I purchased and downloaded windows 7 64 bit professional. Today I downloaded and ran System Mechanic pro (trial version) from Iola site. After running it and rebooting, my system shows that the system is not activated (windows is not genuine is show on desktop). After I ran MGADialog the log files show Genuine state set to non-genuine (0x00000000) for application Id 55c92. Also MGADialog showed :

Hi,

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Used since Win7 came out with no genuinity issues until now.

A short while after the SP1 update I started getting popups claiming my Windows is not genuine. I know for a fact that my Windows is genuine.

Properties show my Windows is activated. I have activated both online and by phone yet the popup still keeps appearing. The MGA diagnostics show that there is a tampered file and apparently it is causing the validation to flag my system as not genuine:

Code:

HealthStatus Bitmask Output:
Tampered File: %systemroot%\system32\slcext.dll|slcext.dll.mui
I have tried to fix this for a while now. The file seems to be associated with MUI packages and Something called Vistalizator.

I have checked the registry and there are no MUI's. US-EN only. I do not have anything called Vistalizator.

I am rather frustrated with googling in microsoft pages as they all lead to the Vistalizator and MUI packs but I don't have them so the fix does not apply.

Thanks.

Hello again, new problem. I have a Clicking hard drive, which i know is a real problem. i am planning on buying a new hard drive this weekend, but the problem i have is that i dont have the windows xp home disc. I have a license sticker on my computer, but no disk to download to the new HD. This is obviously a big problem. I know that the notice up there says not to post questions about filesharing or illegal activity, and i hope that this doesnt fall under that catagory, but as it is a grey line here, im gonna try to post. I was trying to find a copy of xp home to download on the microsoft website, but was having trouble locating it. all i can find is a boot-loader to download to six high-density floppys. I do not have floppys and dont even know where i would go to buy them anymore. my local computer repair store doesnt carry them. Im trying to find a legitimate place to download a genuine copy of XP home.

Alternatively, I was wondering if there is any way to image the hard drive i have and save that on a removable usb hard drive?

Again, i hope this doesnt fall under the catagory of no-no's, and i apologize if it does. Just want to be able to continue surfing.

A:My Genuine activation issue although I have a genuine license

Interesting.
The error message
Notification Reason: 0xC004F063.
...is a pretty specific one, and almost always means that the machine has been reinstalled using media other than the manufacturer's Recovery media, while still using the manufacturer's OEM_SLP Key instead of the COA Key.

For what version and edition of Windows is the machine licensed - according to the COA sticker on the case (or inside the battery compartment)

I recently downloaded SP1 to my Windows 7 machine and shortly thereafter a message appeared on the lower right hand corner indicating that "Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of windows is not genuine". I bought this machine used and so I verified the key with Microsoft and it is a genuine OEM key but try as I may there is nowhere to enter a product key. I go to start-computer-right click- and at the bottom under Windows Activation it states Status: Not Available - Product ID: Not Available and NO place to enter a product key. Also all of the DOS commands that I can find on the Net do not seem to work either. When I contact Microsoft support they are no help at all and tell me I need to do a CLEAN install with the disk that came with my machine. The only problem is that no disk came with this machine. I have also been told by "Tech support" since I have an OEM key I just cannot use ANY install win 7 disk. I have a TON of Apps. loaded on this machine and it TICKS me off that I have a VALID OEM key and seemingly no way to enter or fix which I suspect is a Microsoft bug to begin with as they have overshot to prevent piracy. Someone Please help!

A:Win 7 Prof not genuine and cannot enter genuine OEM product key

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine, but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

I had a non-genuine copy of Ms Office installed on my computer, and have now purchased a genuine copy. Uninstalling the old (non-genuine) copy is impossible because it doesn't have an uninstaller, and it doesn't even show in Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs. So I just installed my genuine copy in a different folder in Program Files, so that the non-genuine copy wouldn't interfere with the newly installed genuine copy.

The problem is that even though I tried opening Ms Word or Excel directly from the newly installed folder and not from the old link to the old version, it still gives me a message (like before) that says "Get Genuine Office - This copy of Office is not genuine".

How do I get rid of the old (non-genuine) Ms Office if I am unable to uninstall it? Please don't tell me to work on the registry - I don't want to touch the registry because I'm not a computer pro, and I won't know what I'm doing. I just want to get rid of the message that says get genuine Office.

I am using Windows XP Home.

Thank you

Since the end of March a window has popped up saying that windows is not genuine. I have had Windows 7 Home Professional x64 since I bought this computer, so it is genuine. I have tried to install several Window updates that are supposed to fix these issues but they will not install. The SURT did run and install. When I try with other programs it says error: 800706F7

One of my computers has Windows 7 Home which is showing that it is not genuine.  I purchased a Windows 7 Pro upgrade disc to make the system genuine.  If I try to use the disc to upgrade, it tells me to use the windows anytime update.  I
used that, entered the key from the pro disc and the system now tells me I must activate win 7 HOME BEFORE I upgrade.  This is an unending loop that should not occur.  Guess I should have just purchased a win 7 home key, but I wanted to go to win
7 pro at the same time.  How can I fix this without having to do a clean install?

I have a laptop with Windows 7 Home Basic OEM pre-installed, it was genuine and had COA on the bottom of laptop.
Accidentally, at that time I was 12 years old, so I don't know about 'crack', 'hack', software counterfeit, etc. . Thus, I thought my Windows was 'low', I want to upgraded it to Windows 7 Ultimate version with Windows Anytime Upgrade.

I searched key generator (keygen) on internet, I found it and generated the code (for Windows 7 Ultimate). Then, I pasted the serial number (product key) to Windows Anytime Upgrade. First, it was failed. So I cancelled the upgrade. But, when the laptop's shutdown and I turn it on again, it was upgrading to the Windows 7 Ultimate. How weird!

Now, I know the pirated / not genuine Windows is not safe, against the law, etc.

My question, is, I restored it to the genuine version of my Windows (7 Home Basic OEM) using my product key.
But I downloaded the setup using the Windows 7 Ultimate pirated (using keygen) that I told you...
Is my Windows become 'not genuine'?
After I restored it, It is very good, clean, doesn't contain virus or error, works perfectly. Then I upgraded it to Windows 10 Home.
Is it okay? Or I should buy the DVD to perform clean install so it is 100% clean?

Need your opinion, please...
Thanks

OK, first of all, ya gotta love cheap ppl! Always trying to save a buck. And then it costs more!
I am fixing (trying) a PC that has Home on it. They (I assume) tried to load Pro from somewhere (of course no one knows how this happened).
When it boots, a window appears that states: " This copy of windows is not genuine. You have not resolved the issue yet and are not eligable for security updates,,,
Then two options to clk on, "Get Genuine now", or "resolve later."
This window states that it is windows pro, but the OS when you hit "resolve later", is Home (which was the original OS). That is why I figure someone tried to upgrade to pro in a bad way.
Can't do a sys restore.
Does anyone know of a way to get it back to home without the boot message?
Re formatting being the last option.
Thanks in advance
Brian

A:Home to Pro but its not genuine (huh?)

Well the problem is its an illegal copy of windows and it was bootlegged, piracy whatever you want to call it, thats why it wasnt a paid verison so its not genuine so microsoft wont allow it duh Bill Gates has to eat too lol.

Hello,
Im in a trouble, so im hoping that you will help me.
I had a genuine windows 7 for a laptop a while ago, then i sent the laptop to my parents in a different country.
So i bought a new pc, without a operating system, driven by a lack of money i downloaded the old not genuine xp. Along came problems, unknown errors, bugs, etc.
Like for example, now i cannot start safe mode, i cannot make a new partition thru cmd or partition magic cause of somekind of file xmnt.exe is missing.
Sadly, i want to keep my bought games and programs, 'cause my internet is pretty slow, so it will take for ages to redownload/reinstall everything.

The question is: Can i upgrade my not genuine windows xp to windows 7 by buying it and installing like it's a common program keeping all of the programs/games/etc.?

Thank you in advance.

A:Upgrade not genuine windows xp to genuine windows 7.

Sadly if you are looking to regain stability your best bet would be a fresh install of windows 7
Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

as outlined there you can do a fresh install with the upgrade disc, this would result in the loss of your games and programs, though do a straight upgrade from xp to win 7 without cleaning out the garbage is just going to make win 7 run horribly too.

Hi,
I'm helping older people with there computer(problems) (non commercial base).
I'm helping a lady which bought an Acer notebook about a 1/2 year ago in a regular store (bill is available). The original (to me) MS windows7 productcode sticker is on the nb.
Since a few weeks a message pops up that this windows version a non genuine version. Reentering the product key did not solved the problem.
by the way: also activeX do not work (is enabled in IE7).
An e-mail to Acer support: advice: deinstall KB971033!
Which will be done tomorrow.
I searched in the internet, a lot of results but no clear instruction a mentioned.
question:
o Is it a good idea to deinstall KB971033 or SP1?
o Any idea how to solve the problem?
o how to get activeX working?
Thank for the help.
Sigi08

A:Win7 Home non genuine

How to Tell - Home

DO NOT uninstall KB971033! Why Acer tells you to do that is quite simple - it stops the error message being displayed. What they DON'T tell you is that it also prevents you fixing the problem that caused the notification in the first place.

You should probably give the system a good spring-clean - Is that Anti-Virus up-to-date?
Download and install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (www.malwarebytes.org ). Update it, but do NOT accept the offer of Real-Time protection (it may cause problems).
Run a Full System Scan in your main user account, and Quick scans in any other account.
Delete everything it finds. You may well find that your anti-virus complains a few times during the process ? allow that to do its thing at the same time.

Recently it was necessary to have my hard disk reformatted. Though I provided my XP Home recuperation CD, the repair service installed a non-genuine version of XP Professional.

I discovered this when attempting to install the IE7 - which produced the "non-genuine" response.

I still possess my recuperation CD and want to uninstall the existing XP Professional and replace it with the original version so I can take advantage of Microsoft updates

I need to know how to do this, without causing myself unnecessary problems.

If necessary, I can reformat the hard disk and do the original install, but would prefer to find some other way.

A:Re-install Xp Home Oem Over Non-genuine Xp Pro

Your very last sentence is your safest and best way. At least you'll know it was done correctly, and you'll also know that you don't have any trailing residue of another program on your computer.

Since you're willing to do so, and I also agree with you, go with the clean install, and you should be fine from then on.

But the problem is unable to install Windows Server 2003 which is needed to run SAP. How Can I able to install Windos Server 2003?? Please help...!!I am in a bad need of this.

A:want to install w2003 on a w7 Home Basic genuine

How Can I able to install Windows Server 2003?

You can't install it unless HP has drivers compatible with Windows Server 2003 for that laptop model, which is very unlikely given that it's a new or recent model. They only have Windows 7 drivers for the G6 series according to my research on their website.

Like all laptops, HP laptops need custom-made drivers to match the proprietary hardware, and you can get them only from HP.
So essentially, HP decides which versions of Windows you can use on their computers.

A:Win 7 Home no longer genuine error 0x8004FE21

Interesting selection of error messages there! - I don't recall seeing that combination before.

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

CHKDSK C: /R

and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.

The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -
then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

SFC /SCANNOW

and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.
Copy the CBS.log file created (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and upload it to your SkyDrive (http://skydrive.live.com ) and post a link to it so that I can take a look.

Post a new MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.

Hello guys,

A month back i purchased an SSD for my old HP envy laptop(purchased in 2010).
I removed the old harddrive and chuked in the ssd in its place and reinstalled the windows home prem x64 edition using the the key extracted from my windows installation on my old harddrive.

Everything seemed to be running well then and windows update downloaded a ton of updates since then

But suddenly since yesterday i kept getting the "copy not genuine error" windows build 7601

I ran check disk and it showed no errors.
Is there a way to make my copy of windows run on my ssd properly ?
I still have the one installed on my old harddisk (currently its lying around without being used ..probably it will run fine if i chuck it back in place of ssd - but i want to use my ssd)

Ohh and for ssd optimization i stopped quite a few services like indexing , system restore , date stamping and what not .. i dont remember all could this be the reason for genuine verification error ??

Also i ran a malware check using the malwarebytes soft - a quick scan turned up nothing.

Malwarebytes pardons Pirates and gives away free one year premium license keys. Malwarebytes Corporation is after the counterfeit keys, they?re running ?Amnesty key? program with which, if Malwarebytes Program detects abused, pirated or counterfeit keys during the upgrade to version 2.1.8, then the user will be presented with a special screen (Locate your license key) with two options (check the screenshot below).

Selecting the first ? ?I?m not sure where I got key from, or I downloaded it from the Internet? ? or second option ??I purchased my key?? will issue users a new and unique key of Malwarebytes anti-Malware premium, which user can use for one year or 12 months for free.

If you don?t activate the key or click the ?Cancel? button, then you?ll remain on the free version.

Next go to ?My Account? screen, note down the new key, your old key will be disabled after a period of time. This way, Malwarebytes disables all the pirated keys and, those who got Premium keys will enjoy one year protection and can renew if they desire when they about to expire.

What is Malwarebytes Amnesty Program?

The program page says ?The Internet is full of pioneers and cowboys. It?s also got its fair share of pirates and trolls. Some of those bad guys may have duped you into purchasing a counterfeit version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Or perhaps we?ve simply detected a problem with your key. Not to worry. My HP Pavilion DV6516TX Notebook has Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2 Installed. I want to turn off System Restore temporarily to remove a Trojan horse as advised by Symantec. However, i am unable to turn off System Restore temporarily because Group Policy does not allow. In Home Premium edition there is no facility to edit group policy because the same is not available in this edition of Windows Vista.

Can any expert help me to turn off System Restore temporarily in the light of the above using any alternative means? Please inform the complete steps to do this in detail. Thanks in advance.

A:System Restore Cannot Be Turned Off In Home Premium . Group Policy Does Not Allow.

You can delete the policy using the 'reg delete' command. Open a command window and type REG DELETE "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore" /F
(note there are exactly four spaces in the command line)

This will delete any group policies affecting System Restore, assuming something hasn't blocked access to the registry key. You may need to restart Windows to make the change effective.

Hello Peach Pie, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if you may be able to activate Windows 7 online or by phone with your product key number if you have not already.

If that doesn't help, then try doing the Validate Windows option to see if it may afterwards.

Hope this helps for now,

Hello there,

Quick intro. Machine at odd times shows that it is genuine.. next thing you know is that it says in bottom left corner that it is not genuine. If I go to properties in mycomputer and look at the activation area it says I have 3 days to activate, I click activate and it activates, genuine, leave machine alone for awhile and come back.. not genuine..

On a side note, if I change the UAC from anything other then OFF ( bottom notch ) pc will not log in and basically throws a error about eventeng.exe runtime. I have to leave the UAC off to be able to log into windows.. I have already done all my updates, sfc scannow and all is clean and good. In fact the machine is running perfectly fine with the exception of those two items above.

I have run hitman pro, I have eset NOD 32 on the machine, etc.. the machine is clean, and virus / malware free.

A:Windows Says It Is Not Genuine When It Is.......

Roy, there is no legitimate validation tool that charges money to repair an error. What tool are you using for this? Whatever you do, do not part with any money.

I'll ask Noel to look into this - he is the validation expert here and you can be confident he'll get to the bottom of it.

A:windows 7 non genuine

Hi Cossie,

When you've installed Windows with the same key for the 5th time in a row, your license has been "Used up" and will not be able to activate any more clients. This is a security precaution so that you cant buy 1 license and distribute it to 100 clients.

What you need to do (if you have a Genuine version) is to call a Microsoft Activation Center, or their supportline. They will then help you reactivate your Windows.

If you don't have a genuine Windows, with a valid serial key, you need to buy one.

Hey guys!

Ok so back in 2009 I had purchased an ASUS notebook for my girlfriend. This was around the time Windows 7 was about to come out and PC companies were offering free upgrade discs for some computers preinstalled with Windows Vista. We qualified for one and received an upgrade a few weeks later.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago. She was having issues with her laptop so I decided to restore to factory settings. I reinstalled Windows 7 with the same upgrade disc after restoring back to Vista. Now a month later, she's getting errors saying the copy is not genuine unless she enters a product key.

The problem is, there is no key on the CD and she thinks she threw out all the papers that came with the disc.

So now, of course, it's up to me to figure something out.

I just called the Microsoft activation team. The first guy couldn't figure out what to do. Transferred one level above. Still no help. He told me ASUS has they're own product key and gave me a number to contact them.

Called ASUS. No help of course. Was told to buy a restore CD but I don't see how that would help.

Sooo now I'm stuck. Either I purchase a restore disc or a new product key, which I'm trying to avoid since money is tight, or I go back to Windows Vista, which I'm also trying to avoid.

I was hoping somebody would have some advice on what to do!

A:Windows 7 "Not Genuine"

The only option is to go back to Windows Vista, as Windows 7 Home Upgrade is about 99 dollars.

We have been very busy with refurbishment in the last few months and I haven't used my Windows 10 for some time, about 2 weeks ago i decided to log on and do some updates but now it tells me I don't have a genuine copy yet when I downloaded it was ok
I was wondering has any one else had this problem could it be one of the updates that have caused this 10 not to be validated Please can you help I don't know where to go for answers

A:Windows 10 not now genuine

You might have to take it up with MS or license holder. I'm not aware of any update that can do that.

The installed Key is a Volume-licensed KMS Key.
This means that it must connect to a private server every 180 days or less.

From where did you acquire this Key/license for Windows 7??

My computer is telling me my copy of Windows 7 isn't genuine, which is wrong because I installed it with a copy of Windows 7 purchased directly from Microsoft. I recently purchased a 500 GB HDD and cloned my 320 GB HDD over to it, then put the 320GB HDD into my mom's boyfriend's computer, because his was no longer functioning. Then I switched the 500GB HDD out of my broken ASUS G50VT into a Compaq on loan to me from my mom's boyfriend. Now I can't turn on my anti-virus software and the computer is telling me my OS isn't genuine. Does anyone know what's wrong and / or how to fix it?

If i reboot again it goes away. This doesn't happen every time, but every once in a while.

I click on their link to resolve the issue but non of my browsers will take it - uncluding the lastest IE.
I am still able to get Windows Updates.

Help if you can please.

I notice the first image below appears before the second one.
I bought my pc as brand new over five years ago.
Or is this a ploy by Microsoft to try to get me to upgrade to Win10 - something I will never do with my current pc running Win7.

No. While they may nag you, they do not make your current OS not genuine.

Did you reinstall your operating system? When was it last working properly and did you install anything between that time and the time that you started getting that window? Did you just install Microsoft Updates?

You have to give as much info as you can.

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/234159-windows-genuine-activation-issue-posting-instructions.html
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Hi,

My Aunt got her PC fixed a while ago and the guy was nice enough to update it to Windows 7 free of charge... which I thought a bit odd at the time. It was fine for ages but its now started coming up with messages saying its a counterfeit copy, and says Build 7601, this is not a genuine copy. We cant get back in hold of him now funnily enough...

So clearly the guy was a rip off, however it does ask for an activation key (which he obviously never gave us), but do any of you guys know a way around this?

I'm fairly ok with computers so you can give me normal instructions to follow if there is a quick download or something.

The problem is that your system is unable to properly read the BIOS SLIC table that should be present in the system to be able to self-activate the OS.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.
You may need to activate by phone.

A:Windows 7 Not Genuine?

The installed Product Key is the infamous Lenovo Stolen Key - and cannot be valid on any computer.
You have a DELL computer, apparently manufactured in 2009 just as Windows 7 was released.
For what version and edition of Windows is the computer licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case (or inside the battery compartment)??

first time here.   I have an Acer Aspire that was purchased 3 years ago with Windows 7 loaded.   Now, Microsoft thinks I do not have a genuie copy of Window 7 and  gives me annoying messages. I contacted Microsoft and the support person saw that I do have an activated copy of Windows 7.   Still, I get the messages.    I tried restoring to previous copies, and I tried fixing the startup.     My goal is to fix this without wiping all my installed software, pictures, etc. from the computer.    Suggestions?    How bad can it get with Microsoft?     Do I need a CD from Acer?   How would I ask for that?

Thanks a million,    I really need to solve this.
Bill

A:Windows not genuine?

Hi Bill,Welcome to Community. The Windows Genuine Check is from MS, but could you please post the Screen shot of your System Properties.Get to control panel>System & security> system. Post the screen shot here, as there is no way that the OS could not be genuine, unless the Version is the same the OEM from Acer,. Cheers.

A:WINDOWS 7 not genuine

The installation is counterfeit.

The system has discovered an Activation Exploit - you have an OEM_SLP Key installed and activated illegally on a retail motherboard.

You need to reformat and reinstall using genuine media and Key.

You also likely have a counterfeit copy of Office installed.

Hello all and please let me know if I'm not posting properly as this is my first post here.  This issue no doubt was caused by December's MS updates so I'm not sure if I should be following this post or another one.

I'm also experiencing the not genuine message on my uncle's HP Win 7 Home Premium x64 laptop.  As my user name states, I'm the one all the family calls when they have computer issues as I've been involved with computer repairs and technical support as a career for many years.   The only access I have to his system is remote as he lives on the other side of the US and when I checked his system neither KB3004394 or KB3024777 show up in the list of installed updates.  I downloaded KB3024777 from Microsoft's site and ran it manually (twice) but it still doesn't show up there.  I think it probably doesn't actually install because KB3004394 isn't there to remove, but that's just a guess.  The problem is that although neither of these updates are present, the not genuine Windows message appears after every restart, but right clicking "Computer" and choosing properties does display it's genuine after about 30 seconds.

Is anybody else experiencing this?  I've showed my uncle how to alleviate the problem for the time being by right clicking the computer icon and c... Read more

A:Not Genuine, Windows

First of all - welcome to BC !

Probably the simplest thing for you to do is to try activating this copy of Windows again. You will need the COA, the 25 digit alpha-numeric string that should be on a sticker on the computer somewhere. Click 'Start - control panel - System' and you should see a link 'Activate Windows'. If this doesn't work for you then you will need to give MS  a call. If this screen doesn't give you a free-phone number, google MS activation and you will find the number. It is usually a free call.

If this doesn't work, post back.
