I tried two times to update, but without any success (many updates before passed without a problem). At the end PC reported that there is a problem and showed for a short time a blue window with the error code and a link to a support. But time was too short to note it and I don't know where to find this report. Is it possible to find it?

Hello, I have an excel file with multiple worksheets that I work in each month to copy data. For the sake of simplicity, let us call them worksheets A and B. In worksheet A, there are two columns. One of these columns has SUM values for data entered into worksheet A. The other column in worksheet A has information that was pulled from worksheet B. What I do is when I get to the next month, I create a copy of worksheet A and of worksheet B. Now, I would have worksheet A (2) and worksheet B (2). My problem is that now worksheet A (2) is pulling information from Worksheet B in the second column, however I want to make it pull information from worksheet B (2) in that column. I know that I could simply change the formula on one of the cells and then drag down from the corner of the cell to update all of the cells to similar formatting, the problem with that is that I end up losing a lot of my borders, lines, and colors in the cells that I use for appeareances sake. I would like to know if there is a way if I make a copy of worksheet A, which pulls information from worksheet B, but then also make a copy of worksheet B, for the new worksheet A(2) to pull infomration from worksheet B(2) without all of the extra work. Thanks!

A:How to rename copied cells and update

I created 2 work sheets: A BIn A!C1 I entered this formula:=B!A1That should fulfill this requirement: "The other column in worksheet A has information that was pulled from worksheet B."I then Selected the tabs for A and B (together), right-clicked and chose Move or Copy...I checked the Create a copy box.I ended up with these sheets.A B A (2) B (2)In A (2)!C1 I see this formula:='B (2)'!A1Is that not what you get?Click Here Before Posting Data or VBA Code ---> How To Post Data or Code.

I mentioned late last year that there was this windows error message. It tells you there has been a 'serioius error' detected by MSWindows but they have stopped it.

They then ask you to 'report the error' to MSWindows. Now when I first got this last year I clicked OK and got a DLL32 error message which is a virus. I had to buy a new cpu.

I just got the message again. It closed, then restarted my system, opening with the message inviting me to 'report the error'.

I declined. But someone ought to do something about this. It's dangerous.

I had this pop up today upon my first booting up of my PC.

It said I had a blue screen error.

The problem with this is when I shut my PC down last night, I -did not- have a blue screen error.

Why would windows error report pop up saying my system recovered from a serious problem when I shut it down just like always?

Hello,

I'm going to try to sum up my problem as clearly as I can.

Ever since I have installed the latest windows automatic updates, my computer nearly always crashes at start up. As I turn it on (touching absolutely nothing at any point), it freezes, stalls and crashes. Retarts itself and creates a serious error report.

The first few reports I got were saying that the problem was caused by a graphics card drive problem (sometimes audio, sometimes video), so I have sought advice from my PC service waranty people and downloaded all available updates from Packard Bell. I have also downloaded updates from the corresponding drives via NVidia.

I have created Hijack This logs, which have been checked here, and my pc is free of viruses.

Tonight, my PC crashed again in the same manner, but this time, this is what it says, and it looks worrying:

Corrupted error report

Thank you for submitting an error report.

This is only one suggestion -- doubtless more will follow from other members.
My son has a PB computer. I discovered that the Disk Defragmenter will not run to completion, it just hangs at around 20% on the status bar.

We have since established that the hard drive is failing, and the defrag problem is a classic indication. Try running the Disk Defragmenter. If it keeps re-starting that's not unusual as it simply means some software is constantly accessing the drive (eg anti-virus) and needs to be disabled. However, if defrag 'hangs' at any point (and hangs at that same point every time you run it and refuses to complete) then there is a strong possibility the disk is failing.

Hello Guys,

I hope someone can make some sense of this report I got on my desktop, after my PC restarted on it's own !!!

I have Windows XP pro and was Using Webroot's Window Washer, when my screen suddenly went black, and the computer restarted, when everything loaded, I got a message, saying something like,
This machine has suffered a Serious Error, and on the dropdown reports were these messages.

Microsoft Windows
Error Signature
DCCode: 1000007e BCP1:C0000005 BCP2:804E 3687
BCP3: F88D 2BB4 BCP4 : F88D 28B0 OSVer: 5_1_2600
SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1

Then in another dropdown was this report.

Error Report Contents
The following files will be included in the error report

C:\DOCUME~1\George|LOCALS~1\Temp\WER75ac.dir00\Mini031808-02.dmp

C:\DOCUME~1\George\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER75ac.dir00\sysdata.xml

I just clicked OK and carried on using the PC without a problem.

Is there anything I should do, Or worry about.

When my PC rebooted the first time, I went back to Webroot's Window Washer and clicked on it again, and the very same thing happened, part way through the wash, the screen went black and the PC rebooted.

Thank you for any help you may give me,
I keep saying this, because it's true, you guys are the best, and haven't let me down yet

Judda.

A:Microsoft Windows Error Report

Since it happens while using the Windows Wash program, I'd first suggest uninstalling that program - then reinstall a fresh copy.

The error that you received (STOP 0x7e for short) occurred when an application tried to access memory in a way that wasn't allowed. Since there's many things that can do this, the best bet is to try the obvious before diving in for detailed troubleshooting.

Have you added anything new to your computer (hardware, software, updates, etc) recently?

Hi everyone!

I'm a user of Windows 8.1 Pro x64 Update 1 (my system and drivers are up to date) and I don't know when this problem may have begun, but I noticed yesterday that the Windows Error Report is not working (sorry if that's not the exact name, but I'm Spanish and my Windows installation is currently in that language).

Everytime I try to look for solutions to archived errors in Windows and send the information report to Microsoft, it fails stating that there was a problem while trying to load the Windows error report service.
I have checked my services and the proper service (WerSvc) is up and running.

Another odd thing I've noticed is that after installing Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2014, when I try to submit files to them, it will not work either and I wonder whether these two things might be related.

Any hints on what is going on or how could I try to solve this?
Any assistance or ideas will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Greetings from Spain.

Hi
when i download a movie from the internet it comes in .avi format. So i download a converter to convert it to DVD format. The problem is that I have found one converter called WinAVI Video Converter and I use that to convert it to DVD in order for the movie to play on my PS2 and i have another converter called VSO DivxToDVD that i use to convert for use on my DVD player. My question is if anyone knows a converter that i can use that will let me play the movie on both the PS2 and the DVD player? Also i was wondering if anyone knew how to keep the file as one file once its converted. After i convert it turns into 2 movie files but when i burn them both on a cd the second part doesnt show up.
Thanks

I purchased a new notebook with Windows 7 in October. During the first weeks I uninstalled McAfee and replaced the harddrive. Since November Windows Update fails with error messages and defender does not start anymore. I made several virus scans (complete) with multiple antivirus programs but nothing showed up.Since it took my days to install various software, I do not want to re-install W7. I also have no good backup that I could restore. I am really surprised that there is not even a single entry regarding the error code in the Microsoft Knowledge base or elsewhere.I really would appreciate help.

Hello,

Seems I spend quite a bit of time here, but this is something that is totally new to me.

When I was trying to do a disc clean with Windows, I received a message that they couldn't continue, there was a program or something running that could affect Windows stability and make is unstable. I also get these messages about parameters when I login. I think its time for an HJT log. I completely forgot how to do a screen shot and attach it to a post here. I seem to always get a message of some sort or other, about IOBit disc not being there, and the one about parameters with a bunch of numbers. I just tell it to continue and it disappears. I know this sounds vague, but I thought maybe you've heard of this before.

I'm running WindowsXP, 512 RAM, 40G HD, Nvdia Video, Intel 2G Processor, Gateway Computer. I can't complain about its running, but the screensaver never comes on anymore either.

Please let me know if HJT is in order and how to do a screenshot and get it to you. Thanks so much for your help.

Toshiba HDD installed. Ran two different HDD diagnostics test on it and it passed.

No conflicts in device manager.

Now, Windows Update window showing 80070002 error. Based upon instructions, ran System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) but that appears to have not made any resolution. Ran it twice to ensure it ran successfully.

Then, ran the Windows Update Diagnostic.diagcab from go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=231149 and it shows Windows Update error 0x8007370B(2014-09-18-T-06_58_30P) as NOT FIXED. All other items in list shows as FIXED.

SFC /scannow will not run ... displaying the message "windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation". I tried the same in a elevated prompt in normal windows and in safe mode with the same result. No luck running Surface Scan.

Ran chkdsk /r twice also.

Screen captures of both errors and CBS log file attached. Any help is greatly appreciated. In the meantime, I will begin running some antimalware scans just in case.

Hi there,

My Laptop is ill. A brief history over the last 2 months:-

My laptop started crashing which I believe was the Blue Screen of Death. It was so bad it was doing it after 10 seconds of use, and then during safe mode. Suddenly, after some attempts to restore and virus scans its stopped. And the laptop is seemingly running OK. However, I am having to use it carefully, running one prog at a time and giving ample time to set up.

The laptop, without question, is running very slowly. It currently takes approx 10 mins to load and begin using everytime. I currently have little hard disk space as I have today downloaded a lot of photos but prior to this it was very slow. The one major side effect I have noticed since it started working again all of a sudden is that when I use CC Cleaner (every 2 days or so) it 6gb of Windows Error Reporting to delete. Now, my computer rarely crashes now so I dont know when or where these reports come from. They are so regular though I'm sure it cant be any good.

Anyway, something is up. What it is, I'm not sure.

Any help gratefully recieved.

About 3 months ago i started noticing that when ever i open certain sections of control panel and some start menu items that they try to start up and then close immediately with no error report at all. They just seem to go away. It seems to be the programs that usually end up opening into a modified explorer window:
(i.e. Control Panel: "Backup and restore, Default Programs, Ease of Access Center, Fonts, Network and Sharing Center, Parental Controls, Performance Information and Tools, Personalization, Power Options, System, User Accounts, Windows Slideshow, and windows update)
(i.e. Start Menu: "Games, and Default Programs).

So i did some much needed computer maintenance hoping that that would fix the problem.

Ran AVG virus scan slow search full system. Found a few problems and corrected them. The problem persists.

Ran a hijack this and compared online and fixed a few minor issues. The problem persists.

Started a Process Explorer (from sysinternals) and found that when i try to launch these specific programs dwm.exe is the last thing to be working before it crashes.

I told it to put the process into debug mode but im not to familiar with the program to get some definitive results.

Also tried opening the before mentioned items in safe mode and it still does the same thing.

If anyone can help i would be very great full.

I noticed in disk cleanup "per user queued windows error report" is not checked and shows 2.74GB. Per user archived, system archived and system queued show only about 237kb.
Being cautious, before checking this for disk cleanup , I ran a forum search here, but no info. However, when I Googled this, I found some early Vista horror stories of people losing all their data and settings when per user queued windows error report showed a large file like 40 0r 80 GB and it was checked for disk cleanup. People warned this was a Vista bug and not to check it as they lost their desktop, data, everything.

I know this is part of an error reporting program for Micrososft. My question is, does anyone know if it is now safe to check mark this for disk cleanup or should it be left alone or is there something comming in SP1 that deals with a possible Vista bug regarding this file. I just figure it would be nice to reclaim the 2.74GB of space IF it can be done safely. Makes me nervous.

A:per user queued windows error report in disk cleanup. Can it be checked?

Well, just in case anyone cares to know, after sitting at 2.74GB for weeks, the queued error report now shows a meager 216KB file size today and I never checked the box during any disk cleanup.

It seems, this file cleans itself out after a certain time or when it sends a report to Microssoft a portion of the contents goes with it. Not sure what really happens, but I have decided it is best and works ok leaving the error reporting boxes unchecked as they seem to take care of themselves. Bit like an Outlook delete or sent Folder that you can set to clean itself out after a certain time perhaps.

So as you already tell by the title and all, I keep getting this:

"Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost..."

...yada yada yada. You know, the typical error message thing. I did search for it, but I am very poor at that, and I apologize if I am posting on something that has already been discussed. I did see something about this very problem, but I couldn't make heads or tails of what was going on i.e. they didn't really say "Do this", I just saw some links that didn't help.

Anyways, I have un- and reinstalled Windows Media Player, as I have recently been getting an error message from them to. Then these pop-ups started coming, and I decided I would just ask about it. I made one of those log things, but I don't know what any of it means. So here you go.

I am using Windows 7 Professional with Service Pack 1.
Windows Update has lost my update history and hangs when I tell it to check for updates. Windows Update Troubleshooter reports "Windows Update error 0x80070057(2016-07-15-T-12_59_34P) Not Fixed". How can I get Windows Update working again?

Here is a detailed account of the problem:
Earlier today, I ran Windows Update and told it to install 15 important updates. It said it was downloading them, but stalled for 30 minutes at 0% done.
I rebooted my computer and re-ran Windows Update. It reported that there were no pending important updates. I clicked "View update history" and saw that the most recent 15 important updates had failed. I clicked "Check for Updates" and,
when it finished checking, Windows Update continued to report that there were no pending important updates.
At that point, I concluded that something was wrong with Windows Update. In an attempt to fix it, I downloaded and ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter (WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab). It reported one problem found: "Windows Update error 0x80070057(2016-07-15-T-12_59_34P)
Not Fixed".
After running Windows Update Troubleshooter, I re-ran Windows Update. It reported that my most recent check for updates was "Never", and that updates were installed "Never". When I clicked "View update history" I saw an empty

Happens only with the drive containing Video files. Not sure wat more to do. Pls help..

A:Windows error report keeps popping when tryin to open the drive containing video file

The problem is I think your video files got infected.
Wait, how come a video file can get infected?

It can. Please post the details of the error message to proceed further.

If your error message is the normal windows error message where You get your windows explorer has encountered a problem, blah, blah....

Then ignore it and try to play the video using WMP. Watch the video for 10 to 20 sec. if its trying to open a web page. Then it has got infected for sure.....

Hi Guys,

I have a PC which i tried to install XP on but i'm having a few problems. The PC seemed to have a Hard Disk issue so i thought i'd format it and try to re-install XP but when i got past the file copying section of the XP installation i got a blue screen error stating that i may need to check for viruses & do a Check disk scan.
So i replaced the HArd disk (which was a Sata connection) and installed a spare drive that i had (IDE connection). i tried to do the install again but i got the same blue screen error at the exact same point!
I tried to change the XP installation cd to a different one but got the same error again.

Any ideas what the issue might be?

2. It also works from different ISP, through router (at work).

I'm running Windows 7 Pro on my Dell laptop. This laptop has been in storage and hasn't been turned on in a year. Originally, all I wanted to do was use iTunes. The problem:

It made me update it in order to use it, but I got an error.

After some Googling, I read that not having the latest Windows .NET framework might be the problem. Sounded reasonable so I fired up Windows Update but that gave me an error and wouldn't start checking for updates.

I download the system readiness tool, found here:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3132
I tried a clean boot.

I tried renaming the Windows Update Softwaredistribution folder.

None of this worked.

We've set you PC back to where it was right before you started installing Windows 10
The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation
What was tried: Connected straight to ethernet, Turned off wireless and Defender A/V, Removing the D/L files, D/L fresh from ISO file, launched install file, went through approx 50% and PC rebooted - nor stuck on black screen with swirling dots for OVER 4 hours with a brief HD access every couple of seconds.
Rebooted again -- still swirling dots on black screen. Tried again, same results.
Rebooted with F8 to get original Win 10 back.
Turned on "metered connection" option for WLAN to stop this update from happening. But now I cannot get and security updates for this machine.
Please suspend this D/L until fixed. Cannot afford to have no protection!

Hey all,

So I am currently reinstalling Windows on my dad's old laptop after the hard drive decided up die on us, and I stumbled on a problem that's a bit too hard for me to fix.

Namely, I am completely unable to install any Windows Update. Not even MSE will install.

I tried running SURT, but got error code 0x8000247
I also tried running SFC /SCANNOW, it ran the verification fase until 98% and then stated that there where unfixable problems.

The displayed error codes are:
In WU: "8024A000"
In SURT: "0x8000247"
Whilst installing MSE: "0x80070643".

Attached you will find CBS.log and MSINFO with my system specs.
Cheers and many thanks in advance,
Nommy

That's very reminiscent of similar errors in Win7 - and I wouldn't be surprised to see it being non-genuine.
Please post an MGADiag report BEFORE doing the below potential fixes.

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Storage Matrix Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here -
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&DwnldID=17882

(IATA89ENU.exe)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

If nothing has changed, try this...

Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt

NET STOP CRYPTSVC
REN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 CATROOT2OLD
NET START CRYPTSVC

once complete, leave the system alone for at least an hour to rebuild the database, then reboot, and run another MGADiag report and post the results.

If neither of them work, we'll re-evaluate.

Hello,

I recieve error C80003FA whenever I do a Windows Update run. It doesn't get past the stage of checking for updates.

I've tried several fixes including:
- Waiting 15 minutes and running Windows Update again.
- Letting Windows Update run on its own schedule.
- SFC /Scannow
- Renaming the Catroot2 Folder.
- Running 3 different Fixit tools.
- Clean windows install.

After each and every one of those fixes I've tried windows update and I still get error C80003FA.

SFC Scannow has previously said no errors, but the last run through it said there were unfixable errors. I've got the log, though for brevity's sake I will keep it until someone asks for it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Clean windows install doesn't fix it? You must be blocked, maybe your firewall???

Hello,
First, excuse my english, I'm trying my best.

I get error C80003FA whenever I do a Windows Update run.

I did the Windows Update Posting instructions. When I did the SURT installation, it didn't finish and I had to reboot the PC. Then it work.

I've tried sfc /scannow several times before with different results: sometimes finished with no errors, sometimes finish with unfixable errors and sometimes didn't finish at all.

I uploaded the CBS.zip

Hope you can help me, thanks.

My Windows Update has been failing to update for a while now and I can't seem to find the solution. Here's the run-down of what happens step by step:Launch an update scan for Windows Update
It scans for a few seconds then says:

Install new Windows Update software

To check for updates, you must first install an update for Windows Update.

Once I click Install it begins to "Install and Update," but then immediately returns to "Checking for Updates."
The next box I see says:

If you receive Windows Update error 800F081F, it means that Windows Update or Microsoft Update cannot determine the cryptographic service provider, or a file Windows Update requires (named catalog store) is corrupted.

I didn't see any posts about this, so I hope I am not double posting.

After removing a drive load of viruses, I am still not able to update Windows Vista to Service Pack 1. I have even tried to create a new admin user account in hopes that this would work, but no go. I tried running sfc.exe / scannow from the CMD and it did report that it was unable to repair wextract.exe. Also, the file reportingevents.txt located in %system root%\windows\softwaredistribution\reportingevents.txt lists "Windows Update Client failed to detect with error 0x80070490".
Although, I think Windows Defender can update. I need to take a break.

Windows Update was working fine until earlier this month, when it suddenly started displaying the mentioned error code.

Have tried running the FixIt tool from Microsoft to reset Windows Update components, but it cannot repair the Windows Update error.

Tried running SURT, but it gave a message about not being able to install hotfix.

SFC /SCANNOW cannot run.

Attached screenshots and log folder.

I have an Acer Aspire Ethos laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. SP1 is installed according to system properties (came installed).

Windows update was working fine until maybe June or May of this year.

I have tried a number of hotfixes, several microsoft fixit (automatic normal and aggressive runs), the sfc /scannow in admin CMD mode, and also uninstalled the last ten or so updates. I have also deleted the contents of the /Downloaded Installation Files/ within C:/Windows but that also did not fix the error.

Have also tried disabling my antivirus but that did not change anything, windows update will not self-update at all.

Nothing seems to work. Please help.

Below see a typical update attempt from the log (repeats almost every other day more or less the same.

I’ve tried to search this but have had no luck. My wife’s computer has XP Pro 64-bit installed and she wants to try (again) to upgrade to Windows 7.

I have 2 hard drives for her computer, the one with the XP OS is installed and the other with Win7 is waiting to be installed. I only planned on installing one HD at a time, but if I can install both and copy her user files and emails from one HD to the other, that would be an option too. Eventually I want to have just the Win7 HD installed and archive the XP HD in the safe.

Several months ago she wanted to try Win7 but I anticipated that she may want to switch back to XP if she didn’t like the new system. I bought a new HD and installed it in her computer, then installed Win7 Pro on it. The new system works fine and was updated to a current state as of several months ago. I realize there will be lots of Win7 updates to install, and I’m willing to spend the time necessary to do that.

However, I’m looking for a short cut for installing all of her personal settings and Outlook email files from XP to Windows 7. I’m thinking that I could copy her entire User file from the XP system and after Win 7 is finally updated and current, paste that User account into Win7. MS Office 2003 is already installed on the new HD.

I realize it won’t be a 100% “one for one” swap and that I may have to tweak several settings from her XP User account, but is using the XP User account even fe... Read more

I don't think it's a good idea to copy the user profile folder over, but hey, try it. If it doesn't work then try Windows Easy Transfer, from the XP system to the Windows 7 system.

It's not perfect but may do most of what you want.

One solution would be to install TeraCopy and let it be your default copy/move handler. Then you specify what action is to be taken for everything you are copying once.

Hi,

I have read that it is perfectly legal to copy my Windows XP setup disk for backup purposes (provided of course that i'm not distributing it and that I keep hold of my original). I decided to copy my Windows CD because i've noticed it is starting to gather quite a few scratches. I decided to completly reinstall windows on my laptop so I decided to try my copied CD. It boots up fine and the installation seems to run smoothly. But then when it reboots (for the configuration stage and finalizing installtion) I just get a 'NLTDR is missing. Press Ctrl+alt+del to restart.' I then tried installing with the original CD to confirm it wasn't a BIOS issue and that installed fine.

So it is obviously a problem with that second CD so my question (or questions) is how do I copy it (I just used InfraRecorder, extracted the iso image and then burned the iso image on a blank disk)? Or any other suggestions this problem may have occured. Perhaps i've been misguided and i'm not even supposed to copy the disk?

Would appreciate some help/advice,

Thanks a lot,

The problem is the next:

I physically disconnect HDD from new PC and connect it via standard USB 3 docking device to my own PC that also run windows 8 i can see the new connected HDD with all partitions without any problem! Than i create on second partition on new drive folder and copy there some files, after copy finished i disconnect the drive in safe way by performing "eject" option in windows.
i connect new drive back to new pc, boot to windows and access the second partition and it ... empty, no folder or files on drive, it also show like no space was used !!!

MOST IMPORTANT ! - Why it don't looks like security or permission or even hardware problem - NO any major security changes was performed on my own (old) PC, but most important fact when i connect other hdd to same dock station and create folder and copy some files and then connect it to NEW PC - problem does not exist !!! i can see and access without any problem the folder and files on both PC's !

I copied a folder with C# .NET programs from my Windows XP machine to my new Windows 7 machine. However, on Windows 7 the folder has a lock symbol on its folder icon and I can't use any of the programs in it, although I can browse the folder and subfolders within it.

I right-clicked on the folder and checked permissions. They were all grayed out. I added my individual username and selected Full Control, and the check marks for that username are now in full black (not grayed out). I went into Advanced and selected "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" which is unchecked by default. I clicked "Apply" and "OK."

But I still can't use any programs in subfolders, and the root folder still have a lock symbol on it. The propagation did not take effect, as all security checkmarks are grayed out on subfolders.

Thanks for any help.

You probably just need to take ownership of the folder so that you can have full access to it. The link below shows you how to take ownership.

Hi guys

Earlier today I turned on my computer to find that it would not start and was hanging on the starting windows screen

I needed to get stuff off the harddrive, so installed a new copy of windows and got all my files off the computer

However, now when I try and format the harddrive then reinstall windows fresh it seems to just install another copy of windows and not delete the old one. Now when I boot it comes up with windows boot manager and has 4 copies of windows 7.

I also get the error message "windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computers hardware"

What should I do?

A:Windows 7 install not going through - installs multiple copied

Update; install gives "could not complete the installation. To install windows restart the installation" or something along those lines

My buddy uses his computer, well his wife does for avon and stuff and she is having a fit so he called me. anyway he said the kids won't admit it but I don't know what they did blah, blah, blah I told him to calm down I would see what could find out for him.

but when you do that it just starts back up to the same screen
in the top right hand corner when you restart it it has F12 for boot screen
I went there and you can select normal boot but it just shows the same NTLDR is missing press etc.

I've tried using the import/export, but I can choose just one item at a time to transfer. Is there anyway to capture the whole Favorites folder from one drive and importing it into another?

I've tried just copy/paste, but then the bookmarks do not show up in the Favorites list. Closest I've come is to copy/paste folder into my Desktop and use it as a regular folder/files.

I was working on a friend's laptop and was getting blue screens on bootup--so I tried a reinstall of windows--after Windows (XP Pro) copied the files from the CD to the hard drive, it rebooted (as normal) and then I got a disk read failure. So I determined that the hard drive is defective (as a boot drive) but I can read it fine as a slave drive on my desktop. So I ordered a new hard drive and plan to clone the old hard drive. But I would prefer not to do the reinstall because of course its not necessary and it will mean I'll have to install all the updates.

So the question, is there a way to interrupt that re-install and revert to the old install of XP or has it already gone too far?

Hey Guys, I'm trying to install windows XP on my new hard drive but not with the original setup disc. I have a copied one because the original was scratched and sometimes would not be able to be read. So I copied the contents of the disk onto a different disk and what do you know? The original disk fails to read immediatley afterwards. Anyway, the copied disk is of course unbootable. I set it to number 1 in the boot sequence and everything. The problem is is that it is copied. Now this is the part I need help with. I went some poking around and found a thread where a guy was having this same problem. Someone posted a reply and said this:

You can make a boot CD with himem.sys and smartdrive and boot with that, then put in your XP disk and go to the i386 folder and run Winnt.exe,or, you can make a bootable floppy that has CD ROM support, himem.sys and smartdrive on it and go to the i386 folder of the CD and run Winnt.exe.

What does this mean? What is smartdrive? Does this even work? Where would I get himem.sys?

Actually this is a problem a friend is having. I have been trying to help her but I am at a loss, myself. She has put several images onto a CD and wants to remove the original images from her hard drive now, but when she attempts to delete them windows creates a copy. The original gets deleted, but a new file is created called "copy of image.jpg" Does anyone know why this is happening? How can we make it stop? She is using Roxio Drag-to-Disc to create the CD. We have not been able to find anything in Roxio that is causing this to happen. My first guess was to blame Roxio, but when it happened using Explorer delete, I had to come searching for answers from "experts".

Thanks!

I made a mistake and need to know if there is any way to recover some files.

I was creating a new profile for a user. I was copying their old profile to the new profile. To do this I did the following:

Right click on My Computer > Properties > User Profiles > Selected old profile > Copy To > Selected New Profile.

Before I did that though I had copied some files manually from the old desktop folder to the new desktop folder. Those files are all gone.

I'm thinking because the old desktop folder was empty, it overwrote the new desktop folder as empty?

I realize I should have copied those files to a different location on the hard drive instead of the desktop folder in the new profile.... Is there any way to recover those files?

Hi Everyone, first time using here;

Ok, I need a macro so that when a cell = 0, a Msgbox comes up giving the user the choice of Yes / No / Cancel and then finds the appropriate cell in a second workbook named report to record that response in.
Below is what I have so far, but I dont have an idea how to fill out
the second part.
If No is Clicked, I need the cell 7 columns across and on the same row as the client name to have an "N" entered in the second workbook t:\quote report\report.xls sheet database. If Yes is clicked I need the macro to do the same thing only enter a "Y" in that same column matching the client name.

At the moment the sheet contains about 500 client names, in a year up to about 7,000

Cell J6 on the original Sheet1 contains the client name.

Sheet is not sorted alphabetically.
Sub Message_test()
Msg = "Client Has Been Marked as Expired"
Response = MsgBox(Msg, vbYesNoCancel + vbQuestion, Title)
If Response = vbNo Then
MsgBox "you clicked no"
Exit Sub

End If
If Response = vbCancel Then
MsgBox "You clicked cancelled"
Exit Sub
End If
MsgBox "you clicked yes"
End Sub

Cheers for any help

I backed up all my files on an external hard drive before I upgraded to windows 7 from Vista, and im trying to copy the files from my external hard drive back on to my laptop and it just doesn't work.

I'm getting the following error message... "you need permission to perform this action, you require permission from administratos to make changes to this file"

Now I have tried...

running net user administrator /active:yes

turning off the UAC,

Changing the folder permissions to allow mysef access etc... as per this website... Fix “You need permission to perform this action” error

Some of the folders im trying to copy are written in green, I think i may of tried to make these folders private or something a few years back, as the other folders seem to copy fine...

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated as I desperately need access to these files...

Thanks

I have been trying to find a way for Windows Vista and 7 to use the Folder.jpg file in a folder as an album artwork icon (in lieu of a folder icon with skewed and obscured artwork), and since Windows no longer natively supports this feature, the best workaround I've been able to find is to replace the folder icon manually. This creates a desktop.ini file with an absolute path to the Folder.ico file I also have in each album folder. I then changed the desktop.ini to reference a relative path, like this:

[.ShellClassInfo]
IconResource=Folder.ico,0
Here's where my questions arise:

1. When I copy that desktop.ini to another folder with a Folder.ico file, Windows doesn't read it, even after restarting the computer. I've searched the web on this and have found thread after thread where people have the same issue, but no one seems to be able to resolve it without manually changing the icon, either through the Explorer interface or using the command prompt. Is there a way I can get Windows to read the manually-copied desktop.ini of every sub-folder in my music directory?

2. On a related note, when I copy my customized folders with the relative-path desktop.ini from my Windows Vista computer to my Windows 7 computer, the artwork doesn't show up there, even for the folders I got to look right in Windows Vista. Am I going to have to manually re-associate the desktop.ini every time I upgrade computers or reinstall the OS?
The album artwork looks so good, b... Read more

So, this is something I've absolutely never come across, and a relatively new problem as of this month. It will not occur on a fresh restart, only after the system has been running for a few days. I can't even describe it well enough for a Google search to give me a proper result.

For example 1: I take an SD card out of my camera and into my computer. I open up the source and destination folders and drag-move the files from the SD card to the computer. The system runs the move dialogue, may take a minute, depending on size, the source file is deleted, the destination file shows up in the folder all fine and dandy, successful move.

If I try to open the moved picture, error, (can't recall the error, but basically the file can't be read). I refresh the folder, file is gone. I go back to the source, file is also gone. I run recovery software on the destination, the file was never, ever there, to begin with. It's like it pretended to copy the file, but didn't actually write any information to the disk.

Example 2:
I'm in Firefox. I see an image I want to save to my computer. Save As, it downloads, it shows up in the downloaded tab. I browse to the folder in Windows Explorer, file isn't there. I try to save the image, again, Firefox prompts me that the file already exists. Using Firefox's Save As dialogue, I attempt to open the file. Gives me the same error, (something like File cannot be read).

I've attempted to shut down/restart Comodo Firewall and Bitdefender A... Read more

I was working on a windows 8 laptop and wanted to transfer user files to the new laptop. I pulled the drive from the win8 laptop, plugged it into an open sata port on my windows 7 bench machine (which already contained the files to be transferred) and booted without problem. I assigned the windows 8 drive a letter and opened the drive. All the files of the win8 drive were visible. I opened a directory off of the root, created a new directory and copied the files. No problem. I opened some of the image files and all looked well. I shut down the win7 box, pulled the win8 drive and put it back in the laptop and it booted, no problem. When I went looking for the files, they were no where to be found! Win 8 showed the "used space" as if the copy never happened. Thinking I made an error on the copy I shut down the win8 laptop and pulled the drive, plugged it back into the win7 box and booted. The win7 boot detected "file corruption" on the volume in question and did some "orphan" recovering and a bunch of other stuff. When it finally finished and booted all the files copied were in a "found.000" directory. I took ownership and repeated. Funny thing is that while the win7 showed the drive with the expected 40gb of data taking up space, the windows 8 showed the "used space" as if the data wasnt even there? That happens all the time when you access Win8 from Win7 or vice versa. I think it is a permission problem but I am not sure.

I suggest to copy the files from Windows 7 to an external drive and then get them from there into Windows 8. Much safer.

Hi guys.
I'm having a big problem with displaying a linked ole object in a report. I'm trying use a dynamically created unbound sourcename. It's a pdf - which can change based on the batch number, and stored in a static folder. I store the filename in a field of a query, which is the source of the form and the report.

Then I added the form as a subreport in my access report. It displays great the first time. But if I run the report again, it doesn't update the ole object. I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out why. I open the form and BAM it looks good. But the report stays the same.

I think rebooting could maybe make things worse, so I figured it would be better to ask for advice before attempting to reboot again, so I don't have the scanning information required.

I began to have problems with my computer this morning (June 29). Last night I had let windows install its updates, rebooted, and left the computer on overnight. When I got up the next morning, it had an error about win32.exe encountering an error and needing to close, one of those error report ones. The first time I didn't bother telling it to send. However, afterwards the taskbar disappeared and ctrl+alt+del didn't do anything. I had to reboot manually, and then it was fine for a while until having another win32 error report, which I sent, and after which my sound failed to work for certain things. My winamp had an error about missing something and wouldn't play, and a youtube video's sound wouldn't play. I didn't have to shut it down manually this time, and the shutdown sound worked. The sound worked again afterward, but I tried virus scanning with Avira and it stopped on svchost.exe.mdmp at 22.1%, and it only found a java/openconnect.l for a ?detection?. I tried getting the task manager, and when I tried ctrl+alt+del and clicked it, it not only didn't give me the task manager at all but it took my taskbar, and then nothing else would work when clicked. I rebooted again and tried running MalwareBytes, and then after a couple minutes the screen went black and then turned blue, and had this:... Read more
