Dell, Inc. Update on an HP computer??

Q: Dell, Inc. Update on an HP computer??

One of my coworkers brought in one of her personal machines, which is completely new (still packaged up and everything); an HP ProDesk. After going through the initial setup and installing AVs, changing IE settings and all that good stuff, I ran Windows Update. For some reason, a Dell, Inc. update showed up.

Should there be any reason for this?

Thanks in advance.

A: Dell, Inc. Update on an HP computer??

Are there any Dell peripherals attached to the machine? I'm thinking something like a monitor, mouse or keyboard.

Hello, first of all I am sorry for my bad English. Now about my problem. I have Dell Latitude 3350 laptop and everytime I search for drivers updates in Dell command update, Intel chipset device software update appears. I installed it, it says "succesfully installed", I restarted the laptop and then it appears again in Dell command update. Details of update: Version, A01, release date 17 Jun 2016, filename: Chipset_Driver_320CP_WN32_10.1.1.9_A01.EXE. Filesize 10 MB.And the same problem in Dell shows again and again Intel management engine components installer, version,A00. Filename: Chipset_Driver_78C1C_WN32_11.0.0.1158_A00.exe. Filesize: 98 MB.So can anybody help me to resolve install problems of these updates, please? Thank you in advance for you reply.

I've noticed broken fonts in Dell Command Update on my Latitude E6440, so I can neither update software or drivers nor uninstall command update.

Could anyone help me resolve this issue?
Additionaly, I have WiDi issues, but I'd like to resolve them by driver update. Unfortunately, I can't update anything using provided utility due to broken GUI.

So over the past 2-3 weeks I kept noticing that my battery kept dying even though I would shut it down (yes window > shutdown) the computer with a full battery. The next evening I would power up and see that the battery was at 20% from full charge. This is a BRAND NEW as in <2 months XPS 9550. I checked my event log and WHAT THE [email protected]#$??? It is absolutely filled with Dell Foundation Service and Dell Product Registration events all saying  " Power event Handled Successfully by the service." Clearly it is not.. The stupid things run every 10 seconds. So when I think I am powering down my computer, it is being blocked by these services and actually just going to sleep... but it actually isn't sleeping. Its waking up every 10 seconds. Can anyone PLEASE help me determine the issue. Apparently according to update service everything is up to date.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with Windows Vista OS. I have a Dell 926 printer interfaced to it via USB. Printer driver is installed and the printer does communicate at times with the computer and does a good job printing. However, intermittently when trying to print a document I'll get a message on the computer that says that communication has been lost and print job failed.

I've checked all connections to make sure they are solid and no debris that might cause this.
That has not corrected the problem.
The other thing that happens is that the document I want to print will stay in the print queue/spooler and if I shut the computer and printer down and restart both it will print the job. And it may continue to print jobs but it's just a matter of time.

Needless to say this is frustrating. I can print several jobs in a row with no problem and then I'll get this "communication has been lost between printer and computer". And I have to go thru the procedure above to get the last job printed.

My wife doesn't understand how this works and will try to print the same job several times with the commo problem and then complains when it won't print.....and then they all print when the above procedure is followed.

Any ideas what is going on??? Any fixes??

The short version of my question is exactly what the topic says-- Can I install a Dell-provided OEM version of Vista on a non-Dell computer?

But, here's the wordier version giving context, if anyone's interested.

About 10 months ago, I guess, I got a Dell Vostro that came with Windows Vista Home Basic. However, I had no interest in Vista (because I already had a Windows machine) and the very first thing I did was install Ubuntu on it. I still have the Vista reinstall disk, though, which, to my memory, hasn't been used.

Now I'm planning on getting a barebones system and upgrading what I see fit. For the time being, I'm going to use the Windows 7 RC, but I'd like to get the uber-great upgrade deal that they're having to pre-order either the Business or Home Premium version upgrade. So, to do that, I'd need an XP installation or a Vista installation. Is there any reason, legal or software-related, that I wouldn't be able to install Vista using that disk that came with the Vostro?

I heard somewhere that sometimes if you try, it'll say something like "This is not a Dell computer, you evil, evil person" and refuse to install, so I wanted to make sure before I pre-ordered the upgrade. I don't want to get the upgrade and have nothing to upgrade, of course.

The Alienware Aurora worked beautifully for 3 days and then would not start. In the 8900's,,, got the blinking amber lights on the start button. Tech is coming to replace motherboard. What the heck is happening? Could it be the monitor... or the external hard drive or what? Come on Dell,,, what's up? I have a Dell XP Laptop as a back up using the same external hard ddrive.

Was given a Dell Optiplex 360 that I found out after getting a nasty virus had a bootleg XP OS
I also did not have any disks with it. I had older disks for a Dell 4600 that I used to wipeout the hard drive and install the new OS. Everything works fine except that I can not load any of the drivers from the second disk, (it was a 3 disk series)
thus at least at this point not able to connect with my cable internet. Cable people told me I needed the drivers.Any suggestions or can it just not be done.
Thanks, Al

A:Loading Older Dell OS To Newer Dell Computer

You will have to go to the dell website look under support and then drivers and downloads for your model of computer. If you use the service tag number on the computer it will make sure you get the correct ones you need. For future reference so you wont have this hassle again burn all of the drivers to a cd so you will be all set the next time.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530, XP PRO, SP3, about a year and a half old. Almost since I first got it, every few months or so, when I boot up it hangs on the Dell screen. When I turn it off and reboot, it is fine. I use Rebit to back up everything on an ongoing basis and have an extended warranty from Dell. Is there anything I can do about this, or should do? Thanks for your help.

A:Dell computer occasionally stuck on Dell screen

I would run a memory tester

Download the prebuilt ISO, burn it to CD as an Image, boot from that CD and run the memory test for a couple of hours or overnight to stress test the memory.

Can anyone suggest a way to get a dell 770 printer to work on a non dell win98 system?

My friend was given the printer from his friends, but it's a dell and it's pretty muh brand new so he doesn't want to throw it away. It's also better than his current printer

Anyway, he uses the dell install disk but once it begins and runs the setup app it gives a message akin to pirating. Saying something like -this computer does not support dell , or something like - this computer is not a dell.

Can anyone offer advice. I did a search on google and dells' site and here.

Hi. I have a Dell Inspiron 5759.
May I ask if it's possible to view a list of what has been installed by Dell Update?
If I type 'Dell Update' in to Windows 10 search bar, I am informed that this is a desktop application.

But selecting this does not open an application, instead a desktop message appears "Dell update: Get the latest updates from Dell".
The application "Dell SupportAssist" is nice but I don't see an option to see which Dell updates have been installed. Is this possible? I'd really like to see what has downloaded to my computer.
Thanks in advance for any info.

A:Dell Update

I have just updated "Dell SupportAssist" and it does appear to show more details about updates.
I'm still not sure that it's possible to see a clear list of what Dell Update alone has installed.

About six months ago, I upgraded the hard drive for my Dell Inspiron 2200 from the original 25 GB to a Western Digital 120 GB. Two weeks ago, the drive failed and I returned the drive to Western Digital for replacement. Today I received the replacement drive and Western Digital has sent me a 250 GB drive. My problem is that the original BIOS (1.10 A03) supports a maximum drive size of 120 GB. I've checked Dell's website and as far as I can determine, none of the BIOS updates address a larger hard drive. Can anyone verify that I am correct about this? I can't email Dell about it, since my warranty has expired. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

They say that no good deed goes unpunished! My neighbour decided to use her teenage daughter's old Vista Dell laptop to reskill herself after being made redundant; foolishly, I offered to make sure that it had AV software etc; it did, but one which was no longer extant, the other I had never heard of and was also out of date, as was MacAfee! I got rid of those and downloaded & installed MSE - So far so good. I then got rid of all the teenage bloatware but am now left with 2 problems, the first, it keeps trying to open/install Office XP Professional even tough it seems to have a perfectly legal copy of Office; the second is more problematical. When I looked at Windows Update I discovered that it hadn't been updated since September 2011! I started by downloading the Vista Service Pack, which took a few goes, then I restarted the computer to install it, but it only gets to 12% of stage 1 and stalls, the first time the computer restarted, now the circle has been revolving for about an hour, still at 12%. I am assuming that manually turning off the computer at this juncture would not be "a good thing".

Any suggestions?

I have added some details to clarify the post after reading the first response( in a different font )I am fixing a system for a friend. The machine he brought to me was a Dell Dimension 8400 loaded with XP PRO the last time I saw it running. ( It probably wasn't legal and there was no install cd for it. )The hard drive in it crashed fatally.I bought a Dell XP Home edition Reinstallation Disc to match the coa on the side of his case ( It is for Home Edition ) thinking that he would just need to update the coa in the OS install at some point to match his.I have installed all XP updates and at no point have I been asked for a coa key. The machine is already activated as far as I know from installing MS Security Essentials and previous updates. It was a requirement. The coa code I found using Belarc Advisor doesn't match the one on the side of his case.Should it?If so do I need to use the microsoft site to change the key information or some other tool?

You cannot legally install either XP Home or XP Pro...without the respective license for each.

I just purchased the XFX 8600 GT that many have said fits and works in the Dell E521 (numerous help threads allover google).

The problem I'm having is that, despite uninstalling drivers and everything, I throw the 8600 into the computer and start the computer up.

This is where it gets hairy.

The cards fan spins fast 4 times, and then slows down to a normal speed. During this whole time, nothing is displayed on the computer (no bios/windows xp loading screen/nothing) and I can't tell if it is even detected.

I've tried all the dvi ports too, nothing.

There's question in which the 305 w power supply can handle it and many have said so.
Is the card faulty?

The card I take out it the 7300 LE. There's no onboard graphics either.

A:Dell E521 GFX card update

Either the graphics card is defective or the power supply can't handle it after all. It's not easy to say at this point. If it was me, I would try the new card in another system or try a better power supply in your current system. Of course, I don't know if you have access to alternatives but I don't know how you can be sure otherwise.

Hello everyone!

We have bought my gf a new Dell Inspiron N5010 (i3-350, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Radeon 5470, 15.6' etc etc.) laptop a few days ago. I was downloading and installing the dell drivers from their page but a I can't get the BIOS update and the DVD-ROM firmware update to work (as if the downloads are damaged).

I have a few Dell downloads that I can't get to work:

Dell Inspiron N5010 System BIOS ( link )
PLDS DS-4E1S 12.7 Tray BD-Combo ( link ) (DVD-ROM firmware)

I've read the instructions and the files don't launch/work like described. I'm using Win7 64-bit Ultimate and WinRAR 3.93 64-bit.

I tried using WinXP SP3 and Vista SP2 compatability modes on the files and launching them from Desktop and Total Commander (which I use all the time).

A:A few Dell update files not launching

Two bits of advice for you.

1) DO NOT use compatibility mode on the bios update.

2) Listen to what your system is saying. If the bios is getting rejected there may be an issue. Contact Dell.

3) Bios updates are not essential, unless A09 offers added functionality, you can continue happily with the current bios.

Over the last several days I have been attempting to update windows to 8.1. It starts, tells me that it is installing. At this point I have been unable to stay through the length of the install to see the point that the crash actually happens.

Sorry for the lack of info, but trying to deal with this as well as a personal matter.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can assist.

A:BSOD on DELL XPS when update to Windows 8.1

Generic advice (based on your problem description):

I've seen antivirus programs interfere - so remove any antivirus/internet security programs (temporarily) and use Windows Defender and the Windows Firewall while installing 8.1

Get ALL updates form the PC manufacturer
Then get ALL Windows Updates
Then do it all again 2 or 3 times - continue until you have all updates.
Then try again.

FWIW - it took me 3-4 months to finally be able to update to 8.1 on a new, Win8 system.

Specific advice (based on the reports that you submitted):

Your BIOS dates from 2008. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

Due to the age of the system, it is very likely that this system may not be compatible with 8.1 (and may even have problems with Win8). I have a Lenovo tablet (x61t) that has a 2008 BIOS and it won't work reliably w/Win8. If it is incompatible, you can either live with the "quirks", or you can downgrade to Win7/Vista in order to get a stable system.

Only 120 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 160 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

You have 4 hard drives. What is the make/model/wattage and age of you... Read more

I'm not a computer wizard so your help is appreciated. Also if you're wondering , I'm using the Dell Inspiron 3847.

A:Dell Inspiron BIOS Update

Bios updates require special installation and must be done alone. It cannot be done with other drivers. Bios updates should be done before updating to win 10 not after. Use caution updating bios since it can brick your computer.
You should not be updating the drivers yourself. Go to Dell Drivers and downloads and let the scanner tell you what windows 10 drivers you need--
Completely Shutdown the computer to get out of the hangup. Wait a minute and then turn it back on.

Please remove the service tag from your post. Consider it to be personal info and you don't share it in open forums like this.
If you tried clearing BIOS by removing the battery and pressing / holding the power button for at least 10 sec, then your motherboard is probably bricked and will need to be replaced...

It must have a bad cord - it was the power supply

Hello guys, I'm new to this forum. And I hope I find a solution here.

It all started when I was updating drivers and came across updating the BIOS on my working Dell XPS 400. After Updating it, the BIOS was flashed. Once it rebooted a Post showing came up and at the bottom it said "BIOS updated successfully. AFTER that the computer made a total of 6 long beeeeeeeps with no display, monitor light is orange not green. So I shut down the computer and try to turn it turns on for a half of a second and powers down...after 3 seconds it turns on...however no light on the keyboard or mouse..I just get those 6 long beeeeeeps one after the other.

I tried the following:
-removing battery for 30secs=Did not work
-removing battery for 30mins=Did not work
-Clearing the CMOS, moving the jumpers from 1/2 to 2/3=Did not work

I was read some similar problems and most say the Mobo could be dead. How could a simple BIOS update cause this. There has to be a solution. Anyhow I yet have to try removing the RAM, Vcard, any other attached hardware inside to see what happens. I cannot hit any keys on a keyboard that does not respond that holding the insert key=Did not work

I went to the Dell product page for my computer - Dell XPS 8500, and ran the scan to check for updates.  3 updates, one of them for BIOS.  I ran the updates and initiated the BIOS update.  Midway through it appeared to get hung up and my machine froze.  I left it for an hour, came back and still no luck.
So I rebooted the machine and of course now it won't boot up.  I have power and can hear the fan, but no lights on the box and no screen input.
Looking though the manual and on this forum, I've tried resetting the BIOS jumpers, and removing the CMOS battery.  When I rebooted I saw lights on the box this time but it shut down after 30 seconds, and now back to the same problem.
From what I read on this forum I'm SOL unless I buy a new motherboard.
Just thought I'd check if anyone had any other suggestions.  If not, where can I get  a new motherboard for this?  The product page for my model doesn't list it as an option...

Thanks for your help!

A:Failed BIOS update - Dell XPS 8500

When did your warranty expire? If it expired less than 6 months ago, you might be able to get Dell to fix it, assuming they can get the board. They had a policy to replace a board -one time only- if it failed a Dell BIOS update within 6 months after the end of warranty. I don't know if that policy still exists.
Those are all different revisions of the same motherboard. I don't know what the differences are. They could be as simple as a different supplier for one of the components on the board all the way up to a change in the circuit layout.
Maybe Dell Spare Parts can tell you about the differences among the 3, or at least tell you which is the most recent revision,  even if they don't have the boards available...?
All three support the H77 chipset which is a key issue.
Look at your motherboard for the sticker to see what version you have now. If you can't find out about specific differences, you may want to get one that's the same version, assuming it's one of the choices available.
You should look elsewhere if Impact doesn't have the revision you want and/or for price comparisons. And always ask if the board is new, used, refurbished and about the warranty.

Have a Dell desktop, XPS 8900.

A pop up presumably from Dell says it wants to "update" my System BIOS.

Sounds scary.

Isn't the BIOS the complete "guts" of the OS ?
Whys should an update be necessary ?

Should I do it ?

A:DELL Wants To Update My System BIOS: Questions On, Please ?

The BIOS (Basic Input Output System) is the chip that controls your system during boot up until it is "transferred" to the OS itself.
(That's a nutshell description, but should suffice here).

It is not the OS, but the SW "Guts" of your computer (Motherboard).

Whether or not to upgrade:

First, what does the update correct? They should list that info, or link to it.

In general, I'm the type to always update the BIOS if a new firmware is released, that said though, my mainboard has three separate BIOS's that I can switch to, so if one is borked by an update, or changes I make, I can go back to the original (I leave one on the original for that purpose).

If all is well on your system, you do not have to perform the update at all, and that may be the best advice I can give you, especially if you are questioning it to begin with, but if you are willing to do it, depending on what it may change for your system, it may be worthwhile.

I'll review it and post later, or others may chime in as they see fit.

UPDATE: I checked the Dell site for your system, but don't see an update for today, that's not to say anything malicious is going on, but can you give more details on the pop up?

What version it wants to update you to? Etc.
You could also boot into your BIOS and give us the version you are on, if you are several versions "behind" the most current one, it may also be beneficial to do it, again depending on what I outlined above.

So, W10 hit me with an alert that it was unable to update automatically, and that i have to continue manually. There are two updates waiting for (manual) intallation:
1 - Samsung - PrecisionTouchpad - Samsung PTP Component Device.
2 - Intel(R) Corporation - Audio Device - Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) Audio Controller.

I might be a bit paranoid, but I'm concerned about the 1st one - I don't have a Samsung, i got a Dell laptop. Nor is my touchpad made by Samsung AFAIK. Is it a legit update? Why did my Windows have problem updating automatically?

Hi all,
I have a Dell XPS13 9350 - only a month old. Everything is wonderful so far but Dell Update software sometimes does not pick up on new drivers. The other days, BIOS 1.4.4 and two new thunderbolt drivers and firmware were uploaded to the Dell website. I ran Dell Update but it did not download those and said my computer was up to date. Yes, I can go to the website and download them manually but the Dell Update software is very convenient. Any thoughts?

Hey, has anyone ever heard of this? I have a Dell laptop that told me it needed to update my video drivers, so I did and all hell broke loose. I couldn't run AVG, everything was bogged down and it took FOREVER to open folders or files. I tried restore it but all restores points were gone, and I tried using Dell CDs to restore the HD put it keep failing. I finally had to pull the drive out and hook it by USB to another system (also running AVG) and scanned it. It said I had only two virii, both Win32/Heur in the updated ATI drivers. After it scanned I used AVG on the desktop computer to quarantine the files and heal them. It told me it couldn't because they longer existed. Then when I tried to look at the contents of that partition, it was blank. When I put it back in the laptop, it tried to boot but fails saying no bootable media exists. Now multiple errors are popping up with other hardware on the system.

I hooked it back up to the desktop and I can still see the drive but no files? Any clues on what I've done?

I posted in the virus and malware forum but they said it looked like a windows issue.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

This is just to try to help others who might have encountered this problem. Yesterday, I (who am on Microsoft Security Automatic Update) was notified that Microsoft was downloading "Dell Inc. - Video -Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family" critical update. Upon completion of downloading and installing update, I allowed permission to restart my computer. When my computer rebooted, a screen came up which said "OUT OF RANGE". After restoring my computer, in Safe Mode, I restarted it and the same cycle happened again. So, I was smart enough (third time) (and with help from Dell Support) to make Windows Update only notify me of updates rather than automatically download them. Again, I restored my computer and this time it came up fine. But, dummy me, I went back to Windows Update and allowed this update and same old story after installation "OUT OF RANGE". Finally, I just left Microsoft Update to "notify" me of updates, went back, restored my computer and restarted - all was fine. A few hours later I went back to Windows Update and the problem "critical" update had disappeared. I thought - "good" they corrected their error - then Dell came forward an hour later with my Dell Support program that I now had an update which I needed to install for my Intel chipset. Being totally skeptical at this point, I made a restore point and downloaded and installed the chipset driver update. Everything has been fine now for 24... Read more

I was trying to help a friend that had the Total Security Malware yesterday. After running Malwarebytes and getting rid of it, I decided to do some cleaning and updates on his laptop.

Everything was going smoothly until it was time to restart after the SP2 update. At first (before shutdown) it began to install some components, it restarted and began install some other updates, later the SP2 update began but after about 30 minutes, the counter was still at 0%.

Of course, I got a little miffed and worried at the same time so, my first reaction was to shut down and restart to see if it would pick the update up again... it failed 3 more times at the same spot (0%) even when I tried to go to Safe Mode.

Finally I was able to get into safe mode and I tried to use a Restore Point to no avail. Much to my dismay it said that I had no restore points to use (I thought windows created restore points before doing updates???). One thing I noticed though, while on the desktop, it said I was using SP2, which btw, it striked me as odd since it never finalized.

So I tried shutting down one more time and restarting normally, this time, I was able to get to the LOGIN screen so I thought I was now safe but, so far , almost 45 minutes later the screen is at the WELCOME and the little circle is hovering or circling around but it doesn't get to the desktop.

Hi all, yesterday I tried to update my Dell XPS12 (9Q33 mid 2013) BIOS to the last version (A08). During the installation, the laptop remained stuck in "EC programming" at 50%..I waited two hours but nothing changed and my PC was unusable: completely blocked, no keyboard,no touch and even the windows clock was blocked.
So, as I read in a lot of BIOS-related threads, I removed the AC adaptor and let it discharge completely..some users resolved with this workaround, and their PC's worked well after.
Unfortunately, my XPS12 doesn't want to power up anymore..I also tried to put the .hdr file of the BIOS in a USB stick and tried to power up with "end" button pressed. It powers up and the fans are working, but nothing happens then..Am I using the wrong procedure to repair the BIOS?

Thanks in advance,

A:Dell XPS12 messed up during BIOS update

Good day ,
To help me resolve this issue I would ask your assistance by performing these troubleshooting steps,
1)Remove all the peripheral components from the system .2)Disconnect the charger from the system ,battery from the system and perform the power drain test on the system .
3)Plug in the charger back and use F2 key to get into BIOS then use F9 key to reset the BIOS to default settings.
4)If you are unable to get to the BIOS page or if there are any concerns do reply to this post with the service tag of the system (sent via private message ) so that I can look into the specifications of the system to assist you better .
Awaiting your reply .
Have a great day ahead !

Norton worked with me for three days on the problem but we were unable to fix the computer. I followed other web sites and repaired my MBR but it still will not boot up. I tried System Repair, Check point, Image, and Dell system restore and all failed. I have tried to use the Windows install CD and all I get is a black screen with a flashing cursor and then after 3 minutes the compute attempts to boot again and fails. I tried everything to try and wipe the drive from C prompt and it will not let me. I have very weak computer skills but I can follow directions and I have wiped a previous computer I owned. Hi, I have repeated experience of failed BIOS firmware update on Dell e5570. More precisely the part
"Sending Intel (R) Management Engine Firmware Update" always hangs on 100% and never finishes.  The annoying thing is that laptop cannot be shutdown via power button (even with the long press) and I have to wait hours till my battery dies :-(
Im trying to update BIOS from 1.6.3 to 1.7.3. In the end, I have 1.7.3 BIOS version, but Embedded Controller stays on A07 instead of A11 so I got my PC into middle of versions :-( First broken thing I noticed is WiFi always turned off after wake from sleep or after startup.
Dell support, please help. I need new BIOS (and Embedded Controller) to resolve some NVMe and other issues with the laptop.
Thanks, M.

I've been working on a Dell Dimension that refuses to update to anything above Windows Xp Sp1 without it causing a continuous BSOD on boot up. I ran the Dell conflict checking software, and it said that there were 6 possible culprits for conflicting drivers. 2 were for Mcafee's, which I promptly uninstalled and removed, and 4 were for the Burner or Burning software, which I also removed, or disabled (renamed) and it still BSOD's on boot up. I thought maybe the problem was specific to SP2, so I went straight to SP3, yet it still does it. I used the Microsoft Offline Crash report, but all that says is that it's possibly a driver, software, or hardware conflict.

Has anyone else ran into this problem, and found a solution? The BSOD message starts with 0x0000008E I believe.

A:Solved: Dell Dimension 4500 BSOD After Update to XP Sp2 or above.

I have an old Dell E6410 Laptop, which i need to BIOS upgrade in orden to use my SSD disk.
I download, and I try to upgrade, which runs fine, but when it comes to the auto restart that should do the actual update, it will not auto restart...
I'll have to push the power button, and it starts with a not upgraded BIOS.
Does anyone know why auto restart is not working on the laptop?
I can't do a autorestart at all, i allways have to push the power button..

A:Dell E6410 auto restart after BIOS update

Thank you for writing to us!
This could be an issue with the motherboard that could be faulty .
We would advised you to restore BIOS to Defaults and then run diagnostics on the system.
Kindly private message the service tag and email address.

Hi all,
Just installed the Windows 10 anniversary update yesterday. Most things seem to work, however I got the following issues:
- USB 2.0 ports don't seem to work anymore (3.0 do however);- Audio card is not detected anymore (no sound)
I was wondering if others experienced the same issues and if any of you have found a solution for this. If I may believe the Dell website we might not expect an update for this? This € 2000+ laptop is not even 1,5 year old!
Thank you for your time!
Best regards

For quite some time now I have been having this windows new hardware popup screen come up every time I restarted my computer. It doesn't seem to be hurting anything, but it is really annoying. I have tried actually letting it search for the new never finds anything. I don't know what it is trying to find. I need to figure out how to stop this from happening. I have included a picture of what pop ups.

The second Problem I am having is that every minute or so this pop up saying something to the effect of insert dell system resource cd. It started randomly one day. the only thing I can think that may have led to this was that I had done a registry cleaner a a few days earlier. I don't know how to make that go away either. I have included two pictures of that. one when it first pop ups. the second is what happens when it can't find the disk.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dell Inspiron 6000

I bought this laptop specifically to use for 3D development and made sure to get the nVidia GT650M to assist in this. I just got my nVidia Vision 2 kit and successfully upgraded the nVidia drivers from their site. However when I go into the monitor settings I am only given an option for 60Hz; there is no option to switch to 120Hz. I am unable to locate a driver update to assist in this. I used Dell's update for the GT650M but it's the same as what I installed from nVidia.
Where can I get a driver to update to 120Hz?

A:Dell Inspiron 17R update from 60Hz to 120Hz for 3D on Windows8

I have a 17R myself the SE 7720 version, you are aware that there are a few versions of this units being sold by Dell, where some units are specifically designed for 3D use while others like mine, even though I have a NVidia GT650M like you, will not support 3D, There are version for the 17R SE 7720 that do, I just didn't opt to purchase the unit with 3D support.
I'm pretty sure that the different unit versions in question use different LCD panels,  and have a 3D infrared transmitter near the top by the Web Cam.
You might want to check to insure that the exact model version you have was designed for 3D.

Flashing the BIOS with only 10% battery and no AC current is an invitation for making a brick. Hi people,

As shown somewhere in the forum, older than 2013 PC-laptops won?t work as they shoud with win 10. Mine was checked to confirm it could suppport win 10 and it was successfull, but while it worked great with win7 home P + external screen Dell P2314h, now the screen its not even recognised by win10.
I have upgraded every single driver, screen, graphics, everything. I?ve tried with different cables thinking that perhaps the conections, drivers for win 8.1, updates...etc. I have read many things about this issue between HP, Win, Dell and after finding contradictory statements I wonder if somebody else can help with this. Everything works fine with win 10, but the external screen its just not recognised at all ("please conect the external screen" when its already pluged in).
So, I wonder if my ony solutions are going back to win 7 Home P, buy another laptop or screen (that Im not), or waiting for a wise guy to build a driver for people with my kind of issue.
Perhaps there is a solution I did not find. At the moment I need the external screen to keep working and using the laptops screen its driving me nuts.
Can anybody help with this?.
Thank you in advance.

A:Dell Monitor P2314h driver update. Win 10 does not recognise it

Hi and welcome.

I found a driver here. It is only a Windows 8 driver so may or may not work.

Sooner or later we all come up against that one bit of hardware that is considered too old by their manufacturer to support.

If you have the budget, you may want to get a new monitor but I would buy another cable first to make sure its not that.

A new major update for Windows 10 has been released a few days ago, and the update included a new gesture which allow user to switch the desktops with 4 fingers placed on the touchpad and swipe between left or right to switch the desktops.
This new gesture is not working on my touchpad and I am assuming this may relate to the current version of the touchpad driver is not yet supported to this feature because the other gestures like three fingers swipe for moving any opened windows and three fingers tap for calling Cortana are still working fine for me.
I was wondering if there will be any update for the touchpad driver coming soon, or all of these were just my own issue...

Thank you!

hi tech guy forums,

I have a standard Dell Dimension 3000 pc at home that i regularly use for gaming. At the moment I have a Nvidia GeForce FX 5500 graphics card installed to help with gaming. I am interested in purchasing a new graphics card and was wondering if, in particular if a Nvidia 9600 GT graphics card will fit and comply with my computer. I am also upgrading my RAM form 512MB to 2GB if this helps in any way. If you have any other recommended graphics cards that may work with my pc please let me know.

A:Dell Dimension 3000 graphics card update

Your Dimension 3000 only has PCI slots for a graphics card, correct?

(according to dell, and my own experience, likely yes)

Without a PCI-Express or AGP card slot, gaming can not improve very much.

I also have a Dimension 3000 : P4 2.8 GHz - 768mb RAM, with a Geforce 6200 [256mb ddr2] PCI card. When it comes to gaming, it is outperformed by my old 1.4 GHz Athlon XP - 512 RAM - Geforce Ti-4200 [64mb], simply because the older computer has an AGP video slot ... the PCI bus is a VERY limiting factor.

Solution fo recovery bios Dell N51101. Download the latest firmware from the Dell support2. Save the exe and create a shortcut with the following parameter: " /writehdrfile"3. Start the created shortcut and it will create a n5110a11.hdr file rename the file to N5110.hdr4. Create a shortcut exe file with the following parameter: " /writeromfile"5. Start the created shortcut and it will create a n5110a11.rom file rename the file to DQ15A11.rom6. Copy both file "N5110.hdr" and "DQ15A11.rom" to a FAT formatted pendrive's root folder7. A:Which is the best drivers update program for windows 7(Dell Inspiron)?

Hello Inspiron and welcome to Seven Forums

As you can see in my System Specs I have a DELL Inspiron Laptop and I go to DELL System Detect to find out what is good for my PC. There you can do tests as well.
But you normally don't need to update drivers all the time. Why did you do it in the first place? Did you have problems and you thought you could solve them by changing your drivers ?

We performed the free update from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 on a Dell Inspiron laptop. The update completed and we went through he customization step. We got to the point where we had the desktop and used a browser to access a web page or two without issue.
Then it said it had updates to install but we are unsure if it started to install those updates or not.  After it said it had updates, it crashed while using the web browser and got a blue screen error that said: thread_stuck_in_device_driver and then rebooted.
It cycled through the blue error screen and reboot three times and then came stopped on a screen where you could select several options such as restore to restore point, advanced options, reset to factory setting, etc. The option to correct problems that are keeping windows from booting did not improve the situation.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and have a suggestion for fixing it?

A:Repetitive reboot after 8.1 to 10 update on Dell Inspiron laptop

Operating system was original or not. If it was not originally there was no need to leave to make their own updates .
You can not help his doing than reinstalling Windows again. And do not forget to stop the service Updates

I am having battery problems.
I currently have BIOS version A05 (3-jan-13).
I have downloaded the update A14 but when i am installing it,
It gives error message 'allocate memory for security flash failed!'.
My drive where windows is installed i have only 4.7GB of free space.  Could it be because of this?
