File Scan Data-->
File Mismatch: C:\Windows\system32\slc.dll[Hr = 0x800b0100]
is the cause of your problems.

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

CHKDSK C: /R

and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, press Enter, and then reboot.

The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -
then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

SFC /SCANNOW

and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.
Copy the CBS.log file created (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and attach it to your reply

Post a new MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.

Hi,

This afternoon my computer started asking whether I wanted to allow Windows Activation Technologies to make changes to my computer. I keep clicking "No," but it pops up again every thirty seconds to two minutes later. I looked it up and it's apparently an anti-piracy software that prevents an illegitimate copy of Windows from running after 30 days or so, but I've had my legitimate computer for about two-and-a-half years now. I suspect a virus or whatever is trying to use it to maliciously affect my system. My computer has also become less responsive, briefly freezing every so often and not always registering when I click on something. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium with a 64-bit operating system on a Lenovo laptop. The program that keeps requesting permission is located at C:\Windows\system32\Wat\WatAdminSvc.exe . There's probably a lot more information you need--I've seen posts with huge logs of data--so please let me know what info you need and how to get it for you.

Have had same computer with Windows 7 Home Premium for many years. Never had a problem with Windows saying it isn't genuine. A few years ago I cloned the HD to a newer drive. No problems. About 2 months ago I cloned the HD to a larger drive and am now using that without problems as my new HD. Until now. I have no idea why but I now get a Windows Activation Technologies popup - I don't know if it's related to cloning the HD.

I also have turned off Windows updates and used GWX tool to turn off the windows 10 nagware. Again, may be related.

The unfortunate thing is, I don't have any of the original Windows info, key, sn, or any kind of disks to run off of that I know of (my pc came custom built from HP years ago and I don't know where any of that info is)

Just ran the MGA diag exe and generated a report but don't know how to interpret it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A new HDD was recently installed in this laptop (2012 Dell Vostro):

There is now a periodic pop-up message that accuses this laptop of not having an authentic Microsoft operating system.

With the OEM HDD, I don't recall seeing that message.

I called MS and they said the O.S. was activated (and apparently valid).

I downloaded the MS program "MGADiag" and ran it from the HDD. I do not know what to make of the results.

The WAT message has a link on it. Should I click on the link while online (dialup)?

I would like to resolve this message problm. Thank you.

Hi

Ive searched around for this problem and not been able to find a solution. All of a sudden my computer (running Win7) started to get stuck after the login screen and wouldn't load a desktop. I have now managed to load a desktop but only by disabling the "Windows Activation Technologies Service" in MS Config. I have tried running a windows repair but to no avail. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

None of the FRST downloads will run on my system; "Platform not Supported".

But, going through Services in msconfig, I find two services pertaining to the Windows Activation Tool; one I can stop, the other I can't.

If somebody was able to stop the tool I couldn't stop - In Services or (gasp!) the Registry - I'd bet the issue could be resolved once and for all (until MS came up with something else anyway). And that depends on Windows Activation Technologies Service being the same as Windows Activation Technologies UX which, of course, is not in Services.

Please see image. WAS was the one I could stop and remains stopped. But WatAdminSvc isn't one I can stop. And I don't know that I should. It's that "Windows Activation Technologies UX" service that makes me suspect. Probably because it's at the top of the context menu of the WinX Activation Icon.

First off, thanks for reading my post.

Second, apologies if the answer already exists on the forum. I've searched the forum for related posts for this issue & code, I got about 400 hits. I went through about a dozen with no luck (plus other non-sevenforums Google searches), so I'm posting.

My computer description is in my profile: self-built in 2011, running Win7 Pro 64 (OEM, purchased on Newegg, quite confident it is legit). Until a few days ago, I had no issues with Windows Activation. I believe it was on Dec 10 that Windows Update picked up several updates, apparently for Office 2007. After that update, I began receiving the alert that my computer was not running genuine Windows with the error code 0x8004fe21. See attached screenshot. Yet under the System panel, it shows as activated.

I have tried several fixes so far, none have been successful in resolving the issue:
I uninstalled the Windows updates I received around Dec 10.
I uninstalled an old copy of Office (pre-2007). I use LibreOffice.
Based on several recommendations on this site & others, I updated the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver to the most recent posted on the Asus site for my mobo (V10.5.0.1026).
I've repeatedly tried the "Resolve online now" link to the /genuine/validate site on microsoft.com. On IE11, it tells me the browser isn't configured to run the required script and asks me to download legitcheck.hta. I never use IE, so I went to my default Firefox where the page... Read more

Greetings,

I just started getting a repeat pop up asking for my permission to make changes to the computer - it's from Microsoft and the program is Windows Activation Technologies.

I keep clicking on NO, but a few minutes later - it pops up again. All scans have been done for spyware/malware.

I can't see the full link of where these changes will be made, but this is what I can see:

Windows\system32\Wat\WatAdminSV

I am not computer savvy, so I would greatly appreciate help with this.

Thanks,

Adam

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=21730

A:Windows 7 - This computer is not running genuine Windows Popup!

Anyone have any idea?

Hello I'm having a problem where I get the "This computer is not running genuine windows" popup. This only started recently (maybe a month at most). I bought the computer about 2 years ago and I've never had a problem since, I have my windows code so I know that its legit. The problem with this is that when I follow the link to the windows 7 website and try to authorise my windows it says something along the lines of: "the windows files either aren't installed properly or they've been modified or changed". It then prompts me to buy a new windows key, when I already have a legal key.

Anyway here's my diagnostic report:

Hi All,

I have started getting the "this computer is not running genuine windows" error as well. There seem to be so many flavors of this issue that I feel more comfortable posting my own output for review than following the instructions of one of the many other threads.

This is an Asus desktop computer that I bought in Autumn 2010 from a well-known electronics retailer here in the States. In late 2011, I was having problems, so I took it into a local shop who completely wiped the disk and did a clean install using the key on the side of my case.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Jack in NC

Hi,

What antivirus software are you running? Has your PC had any malware infections recently?

Please copy and paste the following block of text into an elevated command prompt, and hit enter on the keyboard when it appears to have run:

Code:
DIR C:\Windows\sppcext.dll.* /s
icacls c:\windows\system32\sppcext.dll

Hi manomanfive

If you have an intel chipset download the driver below

Intel Rapid Storage Drivers

Then restart twice and rerun the MGADiag and upload the new log

Hi, my desktop is having a lot of issues and one of them is getting the message that's on the title of this thread.
As a short background, the motherboard seemed to stop working so I had to get it fixed, and in the process of getting my PC to function again, I had to do a clean install of Windows 7 total of 4 times (including failed ones).

Today, my PC wouldn't respond to clicking files, navigation bar&such, and had to wait a long time to get them start responding. I couldn't even connect to internet, so I tried 'trouble shooting' option, but when I did, the window message popped up saying "This computer is not running Genuine Windows".

The thing is, I've already activated and got a genuine mark.
I double checked it from 'control panel' -> 'system and security' -> 'system',
And it's saying 'Windows is activated' with a genuine logo thingy under the 'Windows activation' section.

Yet, I'm getting this message, and seems like it's preventing me from installing some of updates like 'Service Pack 1' and 'Windows Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7'.

How do I fix it? And what's wrong with my computer?
Thanks..

Windows Genuine and Activation Issue Posting Instructions

Dear all,

I have a strange trouble with windows 7 that I installed on my PC.
Actually I downloaded windows from MSDN (so legal version normally!) and installed it on my PC. After installation, I activated windows online and everything was OK. A while after, I had some troubles and driver compatibilities, so I completely uninstalled from this computer and format disk.
Then, I installed it and activated it again on my laptop and it seems work nicely but I have the annoying message :"This computer is not running genuine Windows" !
Although, activation of windows is OK ! When I check for it on control panel, it is said that "Windows is activated" !
My windows is completely legal (from MSDN). I only installed it on one PC but I completely format the disk and reinstall it onto another PC.

So, where is the problem and how to get ride of this annoying message?
Any solution?
Thank you for help

A:This computer is not running genuine Windows although...

1) Activation and validation are separate things. Your computer is activated but not validated thats why you get the non-genuine message.

2) MSDN keys being flagged non-genuine can happen either because either they have been obtained illegitimately or bought off Ebay and MS has blocked them. MS has been taking up the hammer in recent times. Somebody was found selling Bizspark accounts on Ebay and there was a time you could get AA counts from ACM for 15 bucks!

You may be an unfortunate victim, if your account is legit and allright, give MS a call and they'll help you out.

Hi Christen,
I take it you have re-installed the OS,
Where did you get the media.

It appears to have borked the auto activation and Slic table.

You MIGHT be able to restore it, if there is a Bios update available from HP.

Hi, I recently bought this used laptop, it came with Windows 7 64 bit installed, but no discs. I do have the original disc and activation code for Windows Vista 32 bit. I would like to keep this version of windows, actually I dont care but I dont want to have to reinstall all of my software. Is there some way for me to pay for an activation code from Microsoft without having to reinstall windows and everything?

Please help, I started getting this showing from yesterday 05/09/2015. This is defenetly not a copy, I bought this HP laptop brand new about 2years ago and never had a problem with Windows 7.
I think the infestation of qqpc I had might have something to do with this.....
I really struggled to get rid of qqpc - IOBit tools picked it up but could not delete it, it kept on coming back saying that I do not have rights to delete it. I used ExterminateIt! which also struggled but got rid of qqpc after a few times. This have probably stuffed up my registry...

I have also tried the following
"

Recreate the Licensing Store
1) Click Start button.
2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
4) Type: net stop sppsvc (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, this is ok.
5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
8) Type: net start sppsvc
9) Type: slui.exe
10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear. You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically."
Every thing goes fine up to 9. slui.exe - nothing happens - I have also tried to run slui.exe thru search an find, it finds it, but nothing ha... Read more

Hello!

I am getting the famous 'your copy of Windows is not genuine.' I followed the instructions in the other post and here is my MGADiag report is below.

I noticed a few weeks ago in my Windows Update log that important updates have been failing for some time now. The Windows version I have was installed when I bought the machine new from Dell, and I believe I have a valid key.

I obviously want to avoid a complete reinstall of Windows 7 if possible. Can anyone spot what I might be able to do?

Thanks for any help!

Hi,  I have a Lenova Thinkpad model SL510 that I purchased almost 3 years ago, brand new right from the factory.  It came with Windows 7 Professional 32 bit operating system.  I have never reformatted the laptop, never touched the os.  I ran a  microsoft diagnostic tool but I don't understand the results: and don't know if I'm allowed to post it here.  I called Lenova but since the computer is out of warranty, they can't help me.  I hope someone here can help because I can not run updates, especially for microsoft security essentials.

About 4+ years ago I purchased a Windows family pack (3 machines) for upgrading from Vista to Win 7. I have a Dell 1535 laptop (32 bit) which came with Vista and a Dell Desktop (64 bit). I upgraded both machines. All was working fine. I had to reload the desktop about a year later and then again 2 years ago. Laptop works great...

This issue is with our Desktop. The upgrade to win 7 worked fine. I had an issue with the desk top and had to reinstall (can't remember what it was). In January 2014 the hard drive crashed and I installed a new hard drive. I installed Win 7 64 bit and had to validate via telephone. All went well. In July 2014 I started receiving the 'This computer is not running genuine Windows' message. The message keeps coming up. Of course the resolution from MS is purchase a new license, not a good solution for me. In the past genuine advantage always reported all was well! I tried the Suie (sp) and that would not start.

I have posted the Diagnostic report below the key on the report matches the key on the box...Help

Thanks John

Hey guys, freshly installed workstation here at the office.. Everything went smooth, building, setup, installation etc...Last night, I started the updates before I went home for the night, but this morning I came in and I'm plagued with the "This computer is not running genuine Windows" popup.I've already checked very thoroughly for infection on the system, there is none, it is perfectly safe. The only installed products are Adobe Reader, Norton Security and Office 2013 Home and Student, which were all done from the trusted sources. Also, I've investigated the legitimacy of the popup, and it is the correct one from Microsoft, but I'm not sure why this is coming up.Its activated in the computer properties window, and the CoA was brand new in a sealed ziplock bag like they always come. Has anyone ever encountered this before and may be able to help me figure this out? The computer goes out tomorrow!

People have reported update KB3004394 can cause this problem because it screws up the root certificates. It was a very bad update that Microsoft has already pulled.

Was there any "error code" associated with the Pop-up? Running sfc /scannow might reveal any integrity issues.

Hi,

I'm having the same problem as some other people with this popup telling me my Windows 7 copy is not legal.

I did some research and tried to uninstall KB 3004394 (didn't work), then tried to install KB 3024777 (didn't work either). I phoned Microsoft twice, first the activation people reactivated the copy, but the error kept appearing. And today Technical Support was doing some stuff by remote assistance, and they they told me "if the problem persisted" I should do a clean reinstall. And the problem persists.

This is my MGADiag report:

I have a computer that's 3-4 years old now and in the last couple of weeks has been giving me a popup alert saying 'This computer is not running genuine Windows' with and error # 0x8004fe21.

I have called Microsoft telephone activations and was asked to run 'slui.exe 3' from the command prompt and re-enter the Windows product key (from the computer case), which I did and it successfully activated. I restarted and everything initially seemed fine, but now the message has returned.

The MGADiag report (below) shows a number of 'File Mismatch' errors - but I'm not sure what to do about it. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all,

First of I just want to say thank you for all the stuff you guys/girls do this forum has helped me alot in the past.

Now to the issue. Its basically as the title says! about a week or less ago I came home turned my computer on and was playing some games when all of a sudden the "This computer is not running genuine Windows" Popup came up. Now Ive spoken to and had about 7 Microsoft technicians try to help me with this issue but to no avail. They also said that my windows had somehow been deactivated

When they where helping me they tried to get me to run slui 3 and 4 as I was also having problems with windows not activating which has been solved now its all activated and stuff! but when I clicked the slui thing nothing happens. And when click activate windows now system nothing pops up either.

I do use CCleaner, avast and spybot - search and destroy
Thanks everyone!

I have a MSDNAA account where I downloaded my copy of Windows 7 Pro, so its genuine, but when my computer is idle for sometime, in the lower right corner of the screen, sometimes appears the "not genuine" text with "evaluation copy etc etc". I go to Control Panel - System, then windows activates itself again, turning genuine again. This happened two times, yesterday and today. Is this a bug or what?

"Solve on line now" (or something like that, my OS is in Spanish) using WindowsActivation.Udate.exe didn't work

I've had this computer for quite some time, I got everything legit. Yesterday evening it starts telling me that my copy isn't genuine. I've looked through some threads here and I can't find anything similar to my situation.

I had some problems not long ago, and I reinstalled Windows on the same machine with the same key. Up until yesterday, it has worked fine. Today, I've tried using the same key and it gives me the error code 0xC004F063

Hello ToiletNinja,

From your report, you are using the SLP volume license key number instead of the product key number on the COA sticker. See OPTION ONE in the tutorial below, enter that key number instead, and try activating again.

I bought an XP SP3 disk from Microsoft Store. When I installed it, it worked fine. As you may know SP3 does not require any Product Key. However after I installed around 24 updates from Windows Update I re-booted my PC. Now every time I start my PC amessege comes up saying "You may be a victim of Software Counterfite". I know this is because it dosn't pass some Genuine Authentication pass but I know it's legal.Does anybody know what the problem is?

Hi! I appreciate any advice you can give me. My computer is telling me I have to activate the "Genuine Microsoft Windows", and that I need to find a code, or "key" on the back of my windows cd. The problem is, my computer is second hand, and windows xp was already installed on it. I have no way to get ahold of the people I bought it from. Help!
Thanks.

Often the Key is on a sticker attached to case of the computer.
If it is not, and you cannot contact the person who sold it to you, you will have to purchase a new copy of the OS.

A:Windows Genuine and Activation Issue

Hello and welcome Chris mate I think you might have a pup there.
Now if you use this and still cannot get it activated it almost sure that it is non genuine

I have to advise you that if you have the activation for a set version of Windows trying to download a "higher" version ie Ultimate when you have the code for Home or Professional you will get only grief - see my pic

Background information:

I have an old laptop that came with Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. My laptop had a ton of junk on it. So I decided to do a factory reset and start all over. This was about a month ago.

The sticker on the bottom of the laptop was no longer readable. I used a Key Finder program to grab the Windows key.

I received no Windows installation disc with the laptop. I downloaded the Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit ISO from digitalrivercontent.

I installed Windows. Everything was fine until yesterday. I had shut off my computer so Windows updates would install. I rebooted my laptop and got the following error message:

Error Code 0xC004F063
The software licensing service reported that the computer BIOS is missing a required license.

In the lower right-hand corner of my monitor is the message:
Windows 7
Build 7601
This copy of Windows is not genuine

I searched Google and read the forums to find out how to resolve the issue. I was quite surprised to read on the forum how it is assumed that the Windows software must be an illegal copy or that the user must have entered the wrong key. Those are very bold and erroneous assumptions to make. While it may be true I got my copy of Windows from Microsoft's digitalrivercontent website, I purchased a Windows key when I bought my laptop, I did not receive a Windows installation disc with my laptop, and no one informed me that if I did a factory reset that I would have to buy Windows all over again. I should be able to ... Read more

A:Windows Genuine and Activation Issue

Computers that come pre-installed with Windows from large manufacturers usually come with two Product Keys.

OEM SLP: This is the key that came in Windows (from the factory). It works by connecting to a BIOS flag (the SLIC table) found only on computers from that Manufacturer. It also checks for the existence of proper matching licenses in the OS itself. Once it sees both, it self-activates every time the machine is rebooted.

COA SLP: This is the key seen on the sticker located on the side, bottom or in the battery compartment of your machine. This key is for use if the OEM SLP self-activation stops working for whatever reason.

The Key in your report is the OEM_SLP Key - which requires that it be installed using the Recovery media.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.
You may need to activate by phone.

On a computer running Microsoft Windows non-core edition, run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0xC004F012' to display the error text.
Error: 0xC004F012

This is always an awkward one to diagnose
Let's start with the basics...

You will be told that the drive is locked, and the CHKDSK will run at the next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
SFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key
Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Upload the CBS.log file (compressed, please!) to your reply - also post a new MGADiag report.

A:Windows genuine and activation problem

Who repaired the laptop?
The SLIC table is missing from the BIOS - which means that the OEM_SLP Key in use cannot self-activate as it should.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.
You may need to activate by phone.

I have a newish computer (OS=Windows XP pro) which had viruses and problems due to blue screening, it stopped working altogether one day..
yesterday I had installed and formatted Windows home edition on it..
then it asked for a product key which i didnt have, i had asked about the product key some other place on the web which they had linked me somewhere for one, i wasnt sure.. but i took the code down
it worked and i logged in with my fixed computer, it had a popup saying it needed activating within 30 days and i couldnt get on the web either.
this is beginning to get pretty stressful as when it was working before it was genuine and i have no code nor a sticker to be located on the computer..
any ideas? :(

A:Windows non-genuine and activation issue

The installation is showing signs of having been hacked by installation of RemoveWAT.

Download WATFix - make sure that you UNTICK the box for the 'download manager, and click on the link on the left of the page, not the big shiny button on the right (which is an ad for the download manager!!) - and use that - extraxt the .exe file, and run it, then reboot.

Post back with another MGADiag report, and we'll then see what we can do.

Hei!

Recently bought a new laptop, with pre-installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Everything was fine and dandy, until about 2-3 days ago. Suddenly, after booting, screen went black:

Windows 7
Build 7601
This copy of Windows is not genuine.

Some "things" i tried:

- CHKDISK c: /r : no errors reported
- sfc /scannow : no errors reported
- since i was browsing the forums/net, some users suggested deleting the KB971033 update, so i did, reboot : no change
- checked for the Software Protection Service, apperantly, its not running, nor can i start it: "Error 5: Access is denied." (<- actually, i think this might actually be the problem...)
- system restore to the date, at which it was suppossedly genuine : no change
- maybe a few more things, that i seriously cant remember, since i was browsing for solutions the last 2 or so days... if you mention them, im sure ill remember
- some posts suggest, that registry fixing tools might make a mess... i am pretty sure, that running CCleaner with default settings should cause no issues... now, i still might be mistaken, i dunno... sadly, after my last "cleaning", i did no registry backup, the hell knows why... -_-'

As for MGA Diagnostic Tool (i dont even know if i copied the right parts/things whatever , never used this before...):

Windows Genuine and Activation Issue Posting Instructions

   Information
This is a set of posting instructions to use so that you can get better help here at SevenForums.com when you have a Windows non-genuine and/or activation issue.

Here's How:

1. Click on either of the Download buttons below to download the MGADiag Tool from Microsoft.
2. Save the MGADiag.exe file to your desktop and run it.

3. If prompted, click on Run and Yes (UAC).

4. Click on the Continue button. (see screenshot below)
5. When the report is finished, click on the Copy button. (see screenshot below)
NOTE: Often, when clicking the Copy button, you may get an error message. Just ignore the error. All it means is that the backup copies of certain files couldn't be saved to disk (in the root directory). The Copy process will still work, and pasting to your post will still function as expected.
6. Right click on a empty area in your post here at Seven Forums, and click on Paste to place a copy of the MGADiag report into your post.
NOTE: The MGADIAG report does not contain any sensitive or personal information, and is best posted un-edited for us to be able to help.

7. In your post, select (highlight) all of the MGADiag report that you just pasted, and click on the code box # toolbar icon to wrap the report in a code box when posted. (see screenshot below)
8. Add any additional details you like about your issue before or after the code wrapped MGADiag report... Read more

A:Windows Genuine and Activation Issue Posting Instructions

Please DO NOT forget Step 7 to enclose the resultant report in a code box as this makes it easier for us to read, especially when we refer backwards and forwards to it from any subsequent replies in your thread. I've had to add the code tags to a few reports lately because of this.

Beginning last week, every few hours a pop-up window notifies me that my version of Windows may not be genuine. My computer is a few years old and has been running a genuine version of windows the entire time. When I check my computer properties it states my windows is genuine and active. Potentially related ancillary information:

- I recently installed a new hard drive after a hard drive crash (~ 2 months ago).
- My windows update has been disabled and I haven't been able to enable it the past week, possibly separate issue, but concerns me.
- No threats detected by anti-virus, malware protection, etc.

Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool report below. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Best,
Jim

A:Recent false Genuine Windows Activation Notice

With luck this could be fairly simple to fix...
Open an ELevated Command Prompt, and run the following command...

REGSVR32 WINTRUST.DLL

You should get a popup saying 'succeeded' - reboot and run another MGADiag report, and post that.

Hello, everybody. I've had a rather rough time, lately, with my computer. For whatever reason, I could not update my computer via Windows Update. I constantly had errors. I could not figure out why nothing was downloading, and I found no solutions to the problem. Fast-Forward to about 5 days ago, and I encountered another, more annoying issue. I started to receive a pop-up notification letting me know that my version of Windows 7 (Home Premium, 64 Bit) was Not Genuine. I wondered... how could this be? I've had my computer for just over 2 years, with Windows 7 coming pre-installed. So I checked online on sites like this one, and I found a couple different solutions. One was to try to re-input the key. That did not work. Windows 7 was appearing as 'Activated', prior, but the issue of the "Non-Genuine" pop-up had risen.
From searching up the error code, I came across this suggestion:

HTML Code:
Recreate the Licensing Store
1) Click Start button.
2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
4) Type: net stop sppsvc (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, this is ok.
5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
7) Type: cd %windir%\system32

Hi. I bought Windows 7 64bit home edition on a disk with my new Novatech pc over a year ago, and it successfully activated. Until 30 days ago it ran fine. Then the Windows not genuine pop got going with a link for activating online. I used slmgr /dlv which showed that the computer thinks my Windows is in its 'grace period', on a countdown from 30 days to 0 (tomorrow!).

Any suggestion, anyone? Here's what did NOT work:

Online activation (nothing happens)

Phone activation

Microsoft support - phoned them.
They talked me through a few things that did not work, then gave up.

slui.exe, scannow, chkdsk

I've been running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit for many years. A few days ago, I started getting a message from Windows Activation Technologies saying "This computer is not running genuine Windows."

I tried reinstalling Windows 7 from disc, but it won't install.

This is the output I get from the MGADiagTool. A number of DLLs are showing as tampered. Any idea on how I can restore the tampered files?

So the update was offered unticked, but I went ahead and installed it, over 4000 registry changes later, everything works . . . . After the reboot, Norton 360 needed another reboot to update itself. So 2 reboots later Windows cheerfully comes up with my copy of Windows isn't valid. Clicked get genuine, 3 seconds later everything is fine. I wasn't surprised about the announcement - it happened once before. It seems that 7 is a bit forgetful about the status of your license.

Will update gaming box next, followed by a clean install on another PC. I would go ahead and install this update. Sooner or later, Microsoft will push it on you, but you have nothing to hide - right? And yes, I spent a few hundred for this copy of Ultimate to clean install 7 onto the ultraportable in my specs, and it was worth it.

A:Installed new Activation Technologies . . .

I installed it on mine as well, but so far nothing has happened at all.

Hi, I've been trying to figure out why it is that I've been getting this popup here:

When I do in fact have a key entered and at a previous point in time Windows was registered as Genuine - and was fully functional. In fact, I still have the ability to change my wallpaper, and the watermark that would appear in the bottom right corner about Windows not being genuine has disappeared, but now this is happening. The above pictured popup will only appear when I try launching Microsoft/Windows related softwares, like Paint, or Windows Photo Viewer, etc.. so everytime I want to open a photo, this problem persists and is very annoying.

Out of sheer frustration and a bit of ignorance with what to do, I looked up and researched what practical and quick ways there are to rid myself of (at the time, the black wallpaper, watermark, AND popup I'm dealing with now)-- because I don't understand why, with a Windows Key, any of this should be happening at all. And so I'd performed a few tasks including what one tutorial showed, to use Command Prompt and use the command slmgr -rearm , and this actually cleared up these persistent watermarks and activation errors. A program named RemoveWAT also fixed some issues, and the problem was gone for awhile. Now I've run into what seems to be a unique issue. I'm getting the above pop up, but when I view the actual window's associated Application name and process, they aren't the same as what is shown in other people's screenshots on other forums---... Hello

So after almost a year with a legit copy from a PC dealer, im now getting this "This computer is not running genuine windows" error pop up a couple times a day.

Im unable to open the validation site in IE even with active script on, and the legitcheck.hta says it's not a valid windows. I have tried the method of cmd.exe with admin rights and it successfully activated the windows product code on my case. Still no change.

slui.exe and slui.exe 4 doesn't open at all for me. Neither does the "Activate Windows" shortcut.

I have multi language installed from dealer if that makes any difference (Norwegian & English)

Im leaning towards it might be either malware or an error with either an AntiVirus or a registry cleaner.

Please help

A:"This computer is not running a genuine windows" Issue

There appear to be no problems in your report.

First, this is my first post, and I am quite a noob, so i am sorry if I break any rule, or if I behave sub-optimally, I try my best. I get this message for a few weeks already, and I got sick of it. I googled it, all solutions are telling me to delete wat file in system32, but I don't want to, because I bought my software, and I want to use it without hacks.
Here is report, I hope I did it correctly.

A:Message "this computer is not running genuine windows"

You did well for a first post
Sorry for the delay!

You're perfectly correct - uninstalling (or worse, deleting) the WAT update doesn't solve anything, it just hides it.

Let's start with the most likely candidate ...
Check out Device Manager - make sure that you have 'Show hidden devices' enabled - and see if there are any yellow- or red-flagged devices present.
If there are, uninstall them (do not also uninstall all related drivers!)
then reboot twice, and post a new MGADiag report.

If not, then try this.

Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt

NET STOP CRYPTSVC
REN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 CATROOT2OLD
NET START CRYPTSVC

once complete, leave the system alone for at least an hour to rebuild the database, then reboot, and run another MGADiag report and post the results.

Note that this may delete your Update History - but all updates will remain installed, and can be viewed in the Installed Updates listing.

When I got this message earlier this month, I searched around, read the posts here etc. After reading about the problem I let windows install KB3024777 to fix the KB3004394(?) problem.

Everything appeared to work. January updates were installed. This was three days ago. But today I got the message again. Don't know how often the message is supposed to come up. I have since cold booted once and it has not come back. Yet. I completely shut this machine down every day at 1AM and let the bios start it at 7:30AM.

I upgraded this machine from xp by totally wiping the disks and using a retail full win7 pro. At least I think it's a full retail. The other boxes have a small upgrade notice on the box. The OS was installed sometime in the fall of 2013 but i did a full restore in I think 12/2013 to fix some problem I had with Quicken

A:"This computer is not running Genuine Windows" message - still / again

What AV are you using?
Try this...

Please disable real-time scanning/protection and reboot

If the notification has disappeared, re-enable real-time scanning and reboot again

If the notification is still present, first check whether the real-time scanning is still switched off.

If so, then re-enable it and post the result.

If it's turned itself back on then tell me or try again using a different disable option.

Post back with the results

NoelDP,

I am getting the error code "0x8004fe22" amd the popup window "This computer is not running genuine Windows" however, I do have a genuine version new from the PC manufacturer. This started yesterday after I applied all of the Microsfot Updates that came out this week. I am also getting error code 643 in Windows Update. Most of the updates installed but two did not (they were KB2742595 and KB2736428 which both are security updates that deal with .NET Framwork 4). All other updates installed and I can still instal MSE virus definition updates.

I have done a full system scan with MSE definitions as of yesterday with no malware discovered.

I have run CHKDSK C: /R. The log in event viewer says that it cleaned up 513 unused index entries from index $SII and $SDH of file 0x9 and 513 unused security descriptors. It also says that CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the MFT bitmap and that Windows has made corrections to the file system. No bad sectors or anything else of note.

I have run SFC /SCANNOW. The CBS.log is attached. It does have some "Failed to internally open..." messages.

I have checked the Software Protection Service. It is set to Automatice (Delayed Start), but is stopped. I have started the service and it starts nomrally, but then stops after a while.

My gut feeling is that it has something to do with registry permissions. I did run a reistry cleaner (regseeker) about a month ago, but made a ... Read more

Here are some instructions to make life easier
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

My windows 7 Ultimate x64 crashed a few days ago and I was forced to do a system restore. Afterwards I started receiving the dreaded WAT pop-ups saying I was running non-genuine windows. I've also had some issues with a few dll files going bad in this time period so I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. Here's my diagnostic tool output. Greatly appreciate any help

This is my son's desktop that he has given to me to fix. I need help, please. It is a HP that came with Vista and included the upgrade to Windows 7 when it was available. It has been fine for a few years, but it is now reporting that "This computer is not running genuine Windows" and it cannot get any Windows updates. The failing hard drive was replaced a couple of years ago and I did not hear of any issues from him afterwards. I have already run CHKDSK and SFC and they did not report any issues. Thank you.

A:Windows 7 - not running genuine Windows 0x8004fe21

Is anyone out there that can help?

Installed a new SSD on 08-12 (cloned the c:drive after a clean install)
Been through about 300 windows updates
since 10-12 I started receiving the same message as discribed in this thread.
Can I execute the same driver as mentioned or do I have to post a diagnostic report (and how do I do that?)

A:Windows 7 - not running genuine Windows 0x8004fe21

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/234159-windows-genuine-activation-issue-posting-instructions.html

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Recently received the not running genuine windows error. I got a similar error message about 18 months ago which was resolved, and a separate issue which required that I re-install windows about 6 months ago.

I've run chk dsk /c and sfc scannow scans.

Report below.

A:Not Running Genuine Windows

Lets see what can be fixed by the system.

1. Click Start
2. In the search box, type cmd
3. In the list that appears, right-click on cmd.exe and choose Run as administrator
4. In the command window that opens, type sfc /scannow and hit enter.

Report the output from the command window once it finishes.

Is Vistalizator installed on your system?

A:Not running genuine windows

Has it been activated ? What does it say in computer properties ?

start>right click computer>properties

Your windows version is OEM, which means it is tied to the original motherboard. When it was replaced, windows needed to be reinstalled. Call Microsoft, explain to them what happened, see if you can get it activated.

Didn`t the person who replaced the motherboard explain this to you ?

Is it fully updated ?

On a Dell PC (Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit), I had a hard drive failure. I bought an identical size (1 TB) hard drive, restored a backup drive image (Norton Ghost) and successfully booted the PC (after running Windows DVD to repair bootrec.)

Everything is working fine EXCEPT that every day now I get "Not Running Genuine Windows" with 0x8004FE21 error message and of course can't run Windows update either.

I initially updated Dell BIOS and other what I thought were related updates from Dell website. Still same problem.

I contacted Microsoft and they confirmed my COA sticker on PC from Dell is authentic. Still getting message each day.

Any solution short of complete reformat/re-install of Windows 7 Ultimate?

A:Not running Genuine Windows with 0x8004FE21

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=21730

(you want the iata_enu.exe download)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

I have begun to receive a message that states that I am not running genuine windows product. I am assuming this is referring to a pirated or bootlegged product (if that's possible). Anybody have an idea as to why I am receiving this message? My OS software is Genuine, I have the disk, serials etc. and registered when I installed it over a year ago. I have run Malware bytes and my spyware programs and come up clean, Microsoft Security Essentials runs always and is showing nothing. How can I resolve this? Thanks in advance for all you guys do and have done. You are the best of the best!! Running Windows 7 64bit
