A: Need help system protection not there on system properties

Hi,

Welcome to Seven Forums.

Run Regedit and check the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore\DisableSR.

If the key is present and has any value other than 0 then system restore is disabled and the system protection tab will be hidden.

Viruses often disable this by setting this registry key. Often they will also disable the task manager and regedit too.

If you get a message saying regedit has been disabled by your administrator then it's quite possible you have been targeted by a virus, in which case a full scan of your system is a good idea.

As always, before making changes to your registry, back it up.

Not sure when or how it appeared that way, but how do I delete the (missing)SYSTEM(C) entry?

Thanks!

Hello idahjo,

Odd. Did you change the drive letter?

Turning off system protection for this should remove it afterwards though.

A:missing OS name in system properties and system information

Hello tridentcore and welcome to Seven Forums.

I noticed from your snips that System Information (snip # 2) does show under Version that SP1 was in fact installed. So at least part of your system is showing correct information. Have you completely shut down your system and rebooted since you did the SP1 update? (Not just a restart.) And your English is fine!

This is a long story. I will appreciate every single effort to fix any kind of mistake I could have made on any of the following steps.

- Original problem: explorer.exe suddenly stopped working. Just the background wallpaper displayed: no desktop shortcuts, no Start bar. Opening the Task Manager, no explorer.exe process was displayed whatsoever, and I was not able to execute it by using the Run command (absolutely nothing happened after typing the explorer.exe command and pressing Enter). The first thing I tried was to use the System Restore feature, and I had access to it: however, the process was never successfully completed because, immediately after restarting the computer and before booting anything, the blue screen of death was displayed with a non-specific "Fatal Error" message.
- Immediately after, I accessed Safe Mode with Networking and scanned my computer for all kinds of viruses/malware/spyware by using Norton Antivirus and freeware programs. Several threats were found, some of them involving Registry files. Permanently deleted all kind of threats, because most of them could not be quarantined or fixed. I thought this could be a Vundo infection, and I ran VundoFix; however, I disabled System Restore feature from the System Restore tab at System properties because Vundo usually interferes with this function. No Vundo infection was found.
- Still not able to run explorer.exe out of Safe Mode. Followed the advice at:

I've had the System Integrity Scan Wizard, PC-Antispyware, and Security System Protection Control Panel popups. They've been very stubborn but after reading some of the posts here and running Spybot, Adaware, SmitfraudFix, Panda Activescan, Housecall, Stinger Avert, Windows Defender, and SDFix, I am now getting only one popup, which shows up as a blank white rectangle in the center of the screen (and now I can't click "Close" to get it off the screen, since the "Close" option is missing). From the size & shape, I believe it's the Security System Protection Control Panel. Would you please review my HijackThis log? Also, in some of the posts I've noticed recommendations to update Java. The blank popup appeared to be repopulated with information over time...apparently the spyware refreshed itself. I also learned from Task Manager that all of my popups were from the System Integrity Scan Wizard. After some more searching, I found the name (in my case, yzqrqzkp.exe) and told Norton Firewall to block it from accessing the internet. I used HijackThis to fix it and then deleted it and a namesake (YZQRQZKP.EXE-1253B76A.pf) from Windows\Prefetch (not sure that was necessary but deleted it anyway). My only concern is that from what I read, there should have been another copy in \Local Settings\Application Data, which I didn't find. I updated Java per instructions in another post, also turned System Restore off and on. I think the PC is now clean, but would you review my latest HijackThis log to be sure? I have windows 7 home premuim 64 bit
I went to create restore point on my new dell and after about an 1/2 hour of waiting for SR to open up I got this:

You have no Restore Points. Use System Protection to create restore point.
When I attempt to turn on System Protection, it doesn't show any drives available when it opens -- it just says that it's searching for available drives and it keeps searching and doesn't stop. Eventually, I'll receive the following Error Message:

"There was an unexpected error in the property page: System Restore encounter an error. Please try to run System Restore again (0x81000203)." also all button are greyed out. I wanted take an image to show you but that's not working either. Is there hope?

My PC is infected with 3 malware popups named Security System Proctection Control Panel, System Integrity Scan Wizard and Security System Warning (the last one telling me I have Abebot). I have tried to get rid of them with Kaspersky Antit-Virus, Adaware, spyware sweeper, and SpybotSD, but they are still running. I didn't run the online scan by Kaspersky because I have the most recent version installed and running on my PC. When I ran a rootkit scan with KAV, it took just over four hours and reported my PC was clean. So for whatever reason Kaspersky is not picking up these three forms of malware. Following all other directions on your preliminary instruction list I used Deckard's System Scanner to make two Hijack This files. They are pasted in below. Hello,

I have recently successfully cloned my Old primary 1TB Western Digital HDD onto my new 1TB Samsung EVO SSD to increase hard drive performance to give it a quick boot up and to enable Windows and my programs to load a lot quicker and perform better with multi tasking. My laptop is one of the bigger 17inch Acer models which comes with two hard drive bays. So once I had wiped my older WD HDD I then inserted a new 2 TB Seagate hard drive into the second bay to be able to store it for personal and media files, and any other imprtant data, to keep it the SSD as the primary hard drive and just for OS and programs only. My Toshiba Notebook (x64) (running Windows 7) has stopped being able to open/run programs. I've been using safe mode to try and find a cure, and safe mode works fine. I ran a few antivirus programs that detected a few things, but none of them solved this issue. Using System Restore seems to be the only thing I can really do, but I've been having some troubles with it.

Only one System Restore point shows up, and it's only from a few days ago, which isn't far back enough to fix my problem (I've already tried restoring it to that point). There are no other options as you can see here and here.

I tried to create my own restore point, but ran into some problems. When I go into "System" the "System Protection" option is missing. I only have these three options:

When I use the search bar to find it instead, "Create a restore point" comes up, but when I click and it opens System Properties, the "System Protection" tab is missing.

When I looked it up, someone had suggested running Regedit and checking HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore\DisableSR but I couldn't get that far.

If anyone could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.

A:Troubles with System Restore/System Protection

Hello esu and welcome to Seven Forums.

Have you verified that System Protection is turned on? (If it is, try turning it off, restarting the computer, turning it back on, and restarting the computer one more time.)

System Protection - Turn On or Off

See if you can manually create a restore point.

System Restore Point - Create

If not, your computer may have damaged or corrupt sytem files. Try running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and make sure to reboot the computer immediately after each of the scans.

I have a Win10 Pro and ran MR to create a system image backup.
It went well but it turned of system protection.
A message shows up with a warning yellow triangle that reads.
Using system protection on a drive that contains system image backups will cause other shadow copies to be deleted faster than normal.
--- How do I stop system protection from being turned off?

I have another Win10 computer and created a MR system image backup on that one also.
System protection wasn?t turned off on that one.

I do not use shadow copies: If shadow copies are in use on my computer it doesn?t matter to me if that is the case as I don?t know how to use them anyway. I just don?t want system protection turned off.

A:I donít want system protection turned off when I do a MR system image

Hi,

The available disk space on the pc with the warning issue is probably too small to store both backup images (MR) and system protection image.

I do not use shadow copies:

Actually you do. System Protection is a form of Shadow Copying.

Furthermore, it's not wise policy to store backups on the same physical drive as your system. Still better than nothing but all in all not sound practice.
Better to store back up on an ext. removable drive.

In the mean time you could reduce the amount of space allocated to System Protection and see if that helps any.

Cheers,

Hi, I defragged my registry (castigate me later, please), and well, my system crashed. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on a Lenovo laptop, and on startup, I get a blue screen claiming that the OS couldn't boot, and the option to try a system repair. After analysis, it says that it can't repair the system automatically, and offers more advanced options. I can try a system restore, but after selecting a restore point (clearly the one created before defragging the registry), system restore says that I must enable system protection on the drive. I don't remember disabling it, and I don't know how to enable it without access to the desktop.
From those same advanced recovery options, I can use a system image recovery (don't have an image to recover from), the windows memory diagnostic (it claims there's no memory error), or the command prompt. I know very little about using the command prompt, but I can open the task manager at least, though not explorer.exe or msconfig.exe (the prompt claims they're invalid commands).
I've tried booting in safe mode, with the last known good configuration, with boot logging, and everything else from that menu, as well as a Windows 7 recovery disc (though I believe this disc just provides the same options as those installed on the laptop.
If possible, I'd like to know how to enable system protection from the command prompt window so that I can continue with the system restore. I'm quite certain that the error lies in the defragmentation... Read more

I'm inclined to say no, for a very simple reason.
Changing the computer name requires administrator access. Given that, the user already has full control over the entire computer, therefore he can change whatever he wants.
What's the purpose of such "limitation"?

A:what is system 32 properties

It tells you this: system size for the this folder and sub components, share status(don't share this folder), security(who can read/write to the files in the folder tree for this folder, previous version (probably none). To the best of my knowledge, it is definitely part of a much needed component of the windows store environment. DON'T MESS WITH ANYTHING IN THE WINDOWS 32 FOLDER UNLESS YOU SURE OF YOUR ACTIONS. A deletion here can cause real serious issues including trashing the Operating System. Warned.

I recently went through the Malware forum to get rid of some nastiness on my machine...and there appears to be one small casualty left to fix. I cannot get into System Properties any of the "normal' ways...

-When I right click on "Computer" I do see "Properties" I click on it and the explorer window flashes once (like something tried to happen)
-When I right click on "Computer" in the start menu, the start menu disappears (like it does when you open something)
-When I use the keyboard shortcut (Windows key + Pause/Break) nothing happens.

The only way I CAN get to system properties is by using the run command: "sysdm.cpl"

Does anyone know what the cause of this is? A deleted registry maybe?

Thanks!

system properties has virus alert embeded in the page... have had virus removed but cant work out how to delete this..... dont think it has any affect on the computer running just want to now how to remove it....
thanx shane

A:system properties

What AntiVirus are you running?

Exactly what did the alert say?

Note that some viruses cannot be removed normally, even if you are running a good AntiVirus like Norton.

Did the virus description give you a specific filename (like filename.DLL or .EXE)?

Open My Computer and Search your entire C: for the file. IF found, write down the path (you could copy/paste to Notepad and save for later).

Now reboot to the Safe Mode (key [F8] just before the Starting Windows displays).

In Safe Mode open My Computer and navigate to the location of the file and delete it. IMPORTANT - IF the file is in a unique folder, you may want to delete the entire folder.

Now reboot normally.

It says Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.66Ghz then right underneath it it says 2.00 Ghz and says 480 Mb or RAM below that. What does that mean? Does this mean it recognizes the 2.66 ghz cpu but is only running at 2 ghz? If anyone knows what this means I'd really appreciate a way to fix this. Thanks.

A:System Properties

Not real sure about Intel processors. I have not used on in years. But I would check to make sure it is not an issue with your Bios. You may need to upgrade your bios. I had a similar issue with my AMD cpu. It said unknown cpu in system properties. I would check your bios to see what it is posting it as.

I would then download Intel CpuID utilitiy and see what it says.

If you right click on the my computer icon on the desktop of windows 98 SE and click on properties. under the 'general' tab. on the left of the window is a computer monitor on the right is basic information about my computer. I'm trying to figure out how to customise this window so that I can put a picture beneath or instead of the picture of the computer monitor and instead of basic computer information I would like to write something else like welcome message or something. I have used a couple of software programs that do something like this in the past but I can't for the life of me figure out how they did it.

clues anyone?

I've been struggling to get Windows Updates to work as per my posts to that thread but when I just went to open systems properties so I could get to the Windows update tab, the whole Windows Properties box freezes. I can't get rid of it unless I click outside of it. I can't x it out either. Further, there is no data in the box and it is blank. I definitely need systems properties to be available as it is a critical component.

I want to convert MB to GBs, in the system properties window. when system properties shows you have 4 GB of ram installed. I want it to be 4000MB of Ram not 4Gb.Is their a way to change that.......

A:System properties hack

It is possible, I believe. However it would require manually editing the string table of the sysdm.cpl file and disabling of the Windows File Protection scheme. If the previous sentence makes no sense to you, then I would advise against trying to undertake this hack.

A recent problem that I have experienced is that, everytime I try to open certain control panel options a window opens, then closes just as quickly. It does this everytime I try to open these control panel items:

Autoplay
Backup and Restore Centre
Default Programs
Ease of Access Centre
Network and Sharing Centre
Parental Controls
Performance Information and Tools
Personalization
Power Options
Speech Recognition Centre
System
User Accounts
Welcome Centre
Windows Anytime Upgrade
Windows Sideshow
Windows Update

To fix this problem I have already tried:

Rebooting the computer
Virus Scan
System Restore (I used my Vista disc for this one as I can't open the Backup and Restore Centre on my computer at the moment).

These methods have been ineffectual.

The most recently I used any of the services listed above was Monday April 20 on which I used the Network and Sharing Centre. I first noticed the problem yesterday (Thursday April 24), after I fixed a startup issue using "Startup Repair" (found on the vista disc) I tried to open system properties to no avail.

My current system:

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit
CPU: Intel Quad Core 6600 @ 2.6GHz
RAM: 4GB DDR2 @ 800MHz
More details available on request.

Please could someone help me solve this problem?

The computer I am having problems with is in my office as part of a small workgroup network (dental office). The computer is a Dell Optiplex 745 running windows XP professional.

I first noticed this problem as I was trying to change my network adapter to allow to wake from standby without the "only allow management stations" options checked off. I would uncheck this box and everything would be fine until the system was restarted and the same thing would happen again. I am the administrator and have access to all users/administrators of the workgroup. I noticed today that it seems to be that no changes in "system properties" are permanent on this computer because the "apply" button is always grayed out and can not be pressed.

I can't find the answer anywhere and it is real important for me to be able to access this computer from home using LogMeIN.com. Right now I can make it work fine if I remember to uncheck the box to "only allow management stations to bring the computer out of standby " before placing the computer into standby but it would be nice for this setting to be permanently registered.

New to the forums. Hello! ^_^

I found a site with something called Resource Hacker, and I used it quite a bit to remove simple things, and add things. (Ex. the Shut Down Computer command at the bottom of the context menu on the desktop for easy shut downs)

However a few days ago I found a tutorial that stated that I could tweak the file named "systemcpl.dll" (In order to move the logo in my system properties from view) (The properties after right clicking "Computer")

After changing one line in the file and replacing it after compiling the script in the System32 and SysWOWx64 folders, I restarted my laptop and tried to go to system properties. However, once I looked, it stated "The page has failed to load."

I need/want to fix this! Please help if possible. Or some suggestions would be very much appreciated. So far, I haven't had problems with anything at all, and everything seems normal on my laptop. However just not seeing my properties is kinda annoying. Even though I do know what it'd say anyway.

Thank you! ^w^

Try system restore to before you installed the Resource hacker and also get rid of it. If you are not sure of how to system restore post back.

Associated with this, the System Properties opens to the Hardware tab. I'm not sure what the conflict is here as until 2 weeks ago everything had worked without this annoying interruption for over a year.
Any thoughts as to what might be causing this?

I have a Dell XPS M1710. Processor Centrino Duo T7200. I looked through lots of discussion and ran the Windows 7 upgrade advisor, etc. It showed that the system was 64-bit compatible and everything was able to be upgraded. We purchased RAM to take the system from 2gb to 4gb, which Dell system suggestions said it was able to be upgraded to as well. Did a clean install to upgrade from Vista 32-bit to Vista 64-bit and everything is fine. However, I notice that in the system area it says that the system has 4 gb of ran, but only 3.25 is usable. When I go into the BIOS under memory it says "Due to an amount of memory being assigned for system use, Memory Available is less than Memory Installed." It also says that it cannot be changed. If the system is able to go up to 4gb of RAM according to Dell, and I now have a 64-bit operating system, why am I still not getting use out of all 4 gb of RAM? Is there a way to resolve this? (I apologize in advance if I put this in the wrong forum section or if this was already in the forum and I could not find it.)

I have a problem on my work computer at work. All of the lab techs at my college (some shouldn't be lab techs mind you) all have to use this computer to help the students and most of us will browse from site to site looking up things while we are bored. Our boss has given me the assignment of trying to fix what they have screwed up.

When we attempt to view our system properties the only tabs visible are:

Advanced
General
Computer Name
Automatic Updates
Hardware

The last tab we can see it but its header is blank and when it is selected it is blank. They have ran all the microsoft antispyware, adaware, spybot blaster, and our local command antivirus and it hasn't picked up anything. We had a recent flair up of the My.tob virus in a few classrooms but this problem was around way before then.

Looking forward to what you ask me to do to try to fix this.

What a great website, I've learned so much just from reading!!

I am not able to right click on computer and then system properties...when I do it, the screen displays for a second and disappears.

I've tried unsuccessfully for the last several days to resolve this, various scans, I tried to go back to an earlier restore point and they have all gone except for onces from 3 days ago...very odd. I am not sure when this problem occurred either. My IE is also giving me fits, it will not allow me to certain regular sites like Yahoo and it just hangs and does nothing. I have disabled it and gone to Mozilla but then my outlook will not access hyperlinks, etc. So I reactivated it and I am using Mozilla as my regular browser until I can resolve all these issues.

I'm using a Mac Pro (desktop) but running it exclusively in Windows XP 64-bit. Until recently, all 16 GB of RAM was working correctly. Now however only 8 GB of RAM shows up under system properties and DxDiag. However, CPU-Z from CPUID shows 8 slots of memory each with 2 GB (which is indeed what is loaded). Why is there this discrepancy and how can I make the machine use all of it again? Thanks.

A:Memory missing from system properties

Has the machine been moved? Even though some software is correctly reporting the memory it would be worthwhile opening it up and checking all the sticks of memory are firmly pushed down and correctly seated in the slots. I'd guess the different software has different methods of querying the system properties. Some might actually query the memory, others might just query what the bios reports which might register the ram details even if it isn't functioning properly.

I have Windows-XP professional service pack 2 installed on it.

I am facing two problems in it:

1. If I go to My Computer and try to open any of the drives (i.e C, D, E & F) by double-clicking the drive labels, the drive is not getting opened.
But I am able to open the hard-drives using right-click-->open. This double-click problem is not happening anywhere else like in other folders etc.

2. The second problem I am facing is that I have 1GB of RAM in it(2 each of 512MB), but when I see System Properties it shows a RAM of 768MB but if I go to
System Information and check the Total Physival Memory it shows as 1024MB.
I would be really greatful if somebody can help me in resolving these issues.

A:Wrong Display Of Ram In System Properties

Hi .The memory differential...is probably caused by the fact that part of the physical RAM installed (1GB) is being used for onboard video. The System Properties info reflects the net of total RAM installed minus such allocation. What do you see if you go Start/right-click on My Computer and select Properties? Should be 768MB, if I am right. There is a setting in the BIOS which you can use to adjust the amount of RAM so used. You can set it for a lesser amount. If you only do normatl things, there is no reason to allocate more than 64MB for onboard video, IMO.http://www.ehow.com/how_2138456_configure-...rough-bios.htmlSorry, but I have no answer for your first question, although I have seen the answer posted in this forum before.Louis

Looks like you just installed Windows and need the special drivers to be installed like chipset, buss, network, video, audio, and any others that are on the download or drivers disk. These are the special drivers for the motherboard and can be found at either the manufacturers web site for the computer or the motherboard you download them, burn to a cd-r and then install them in the order that I typed earlier.

See this, particularly the fix near the bottom:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/for...gpedit was also mentioned in that link but be aware it is not available if you are using XP Home - see here for info:http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum...EDIT:Against the possibility of it being due to malware run this on it:MalwareBytes:http://filehippo.com/download_malwa...(green Download button top right - not anything else on the page)Install and Run the program but before doing its Scan go to "Settings > Detection and Protection" and put a checkmark in "Scan for rootkits". Quarantine anything it finds. Please copy/paste the log on here if it finds anything.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derek

I recently purchased a dell dimension desktop off of a neighbor because they went with a laptop. I upgraded the win xp to xp pro. when I look in system properties the PC is registered to the previous owner. Not the XP software, just the PC.

How do I change the registered name on the PC so it no longer shows the previous owners name?

Thanks

A:Change The Registered Name In System Properties?

Well, you can change your name in the registry but mucking around in there is not something I think anyone highly recommends unless you know what you are doing. So doing so is at your own risk and I would make a registry backup before making any changes in there.Go to Start menu and select Run and type regeditFind and go to below key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version Change your name in following subkey :Registered Owner

So, I went on my system properties today to look at something, when I noticed this strange logo that randomly appeared. Now, I don't know how long it's been there, but the last time I was on the system properties menu was a while ago. Part of me wonders if it was something to do with something my friend was doing while on my computer, or maybe it was something I did, who knows...But what I would like to know, is how the heck do I get rid of it?

A rather odd problem...I updated SpyWare Blaster 3.0 and now my folder properties won't pop up when I right-click on any directory. When I right click on the desktop or anywhere else, the popup menu dosen't lock up my system. I tried to do a system restore that was taken before the upgrade, but it didn't fix the problem. Uninstalling the program won't work either. I know that there is a system command that will check the integrety of your OS files, but I can't remember the command line. Other than that small problem, the OS (WinXP Pro) works fine and all of my programs work as they did before.

I am working on an IBM I series 1300 for a customer of mine and I have a bit of a problem. The BIOS states a P3 750MHz processor but the Win XP properties shows a 477MHz P3?????????????? I have never seen this before and it seems to me that the computer is running a little slower than these have in the past. It's like it's running at 477Mhz instead of 750Mhz. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

A:Wrong CPU specs in system properties

Sounds to me like a communications failure between your motherboard and Windows. I'd suggest updating your motherboard resource drivers (chipset, etc); these should be readily available from the website of your motherboard's manufacturer.

Windows 7 Professional, SP1, 3GB Physical RAM, 64-bit. System Properties has a label such as this on *OTHER* systems:

Installed Memory (RAM): 4.00 GB (3.85GB usable)

And you will see this "usable RAM" item in many Windows systems. However, there are some systems where it simply does not show the item in parentheses AT ALL such as mine:

Installed Memory (RAM): 3.00 GB

I have a company that requires seeing this "usable" RAM and I can't Google anything anywhere how to make this show up or what prevents it from showing up or how to make a WMI call to make it show up.

It is a Dell E5500 with the latest BIOS (A19) and chipset and video driver.

+Resource Manager and msinfo32 show there really is only a scant 45MB being used for video RAM (hardware) thus if the value ever showed up it would say 2.93 or some such.and company would be happy my PC passes their certification.

+tried setting msconfig Boot|Advanced Max Mem to 3072 KB and did not impact anything (nor does unchecking and saying 0)

+looked at msinfo32 -- nothing useful

+Googled "usable ram" etc. and all everyone talks about is situations when the usable *IS* *IS* displayed and is less than expected. That does not apply here.

+Ran memory diagnostics; reseated RAM -- forced apps to go well past 2GB and no problem.

I know 2.93 GB is usable because I know how to interpret the usable RAM from other values (resource Monitor Memory) but the company doing the certification insists on... Read more

Hi to everybody,

This is my first post,so, please be patient with me and specially because my English is not so good as I would like.

Thanks in advance to read my problem and to try to find out some solution. The problem is as follows:

Every time I want to open My Pc=>right click =>Properties, it is not working and the same happen with "Restore System".

Sometimes, if it works the time to show up is too much. I have checked that there is a process always involved with this:rundll32.exe. I suppose that this program is not launching well.

Please, if you have any idea for this situation I would appreciate your help.

Best regards,

A:Problems to open My Pc properties & Restore System

hi
have you tried the right click->properties in safemode ? If it works there, clear all the unnecessary items from the startup list and restart the computer.
start->run->msconfig hit enter and click on startup tab and clear the list.

You can try system restore from start->run->
c:\windows\system32\Restore\rstrui.exe

give it a try and get back with more details.

Why does it show as just 2.87gb in the system information details?

(I'm using windows XP Pro SP3 32 bit)

The graphics card is ATi Radeon HD2400 Pro and uses the memory/hypermemory on mother board to apparently go upto 1 gig, maybe its stealing some memory from the board and thats why its not showing?

Hey all,

Today I noticed that my system properties wasn't displaying my CPU, doesn't say anything else other than 3.25GB Ram and Physical Address Extension. And I definitely remember seeing my CPU there a week or 2 ago. In between that time all I did was install a few video games such as Turok, Mass Effect and programs such as itunes, quicktime, tunebite...etc Never messed around with Registry Files. So I started looking into it, I noticed that my CPU information shows up everywhere including Device Manager, in all of the Registries. So I updated my bios, cleaned out my registry, checked disc for corrupted system files, still nothing....So then I tried running msinfo32 in Run, nothing popped up no errors nothing. The .exe is there but it just doesn't run for some odd reason. My computer is running fine, no BSOD no errors nothing freezes or crashes but it's just been bothering me how it just disappeared without a sign. Please help!

Intel Core2duo e8400 @ 3.0GHz
Windows XP Pro SP3

Thanks

A:msinfo32 not working and system properties not displaying CPU. plz help

Update:

So I noticed that Help and Support Center does not work, and I've followed a few instructions on another thread to try getting it to start but no luck.

But when I go into safemode, Help and Support + msinfo32 (System Information) works, and my CPU info in system properties are displaying correctly.

I enabled and disabled all the services in msconfig, still no luck.

I scanned for viruses/spyware and it's clean.

Please help!

I've got a very cheeky question would like to ask about.

Are there any possible ways where we could possibly edit or change everything inside the System Properties by right clicking on My Computer Properties on the desktop??

I've tried something called the Fake Your Specs:

Fake your Specs - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download.com

But that doesn't really apply to the Registration Entries, it only applied to show only!!

Are there any way we could do this?? So if we want we could turn them on and off any time.

Any ideas or advise of recommendations, please post up something with pictures if can, where we could see how this works and follow the steps and so forth.

PS: Always remember to have a option where users can switch back to the original defaults, otherwise we can only change but we cannot go back to normal defaults.

Warm thanks for your very much precious supports of your highly co-operated interests to this matter in regards.

Cheers mate.

Hello All,
Using XP Pro SP2. Not sure when this happened, but "My Computer" icon has been replaced with "System Properties". Modifying the Desktop does not work as My Computer does not show up - the check box is there and is checked, but the icon is for System Properties. And that is what shows up in Start and Windows Explorer.
Tried TweakUI - all the right stuff appears under My Computer, but doesn't change anything.
In the registry:
HideDesktopIcons set to 0
HideComputerIcons set to 0
Policy for MyComp (value not set)
MyComputer (value not set)
Not sure what file(s) to look for.
Anybody experienced anything similar?

Thanks for any help you can give.

A:My Computer Icon Replaced By System Properties

I have only one desktop in my network that will not display the remote tab in System Properties. I would like to enable remote desktop to this computer, but am unable to because I can not get to the remote tab. I am running Windows XP Pro in an Active Directory Domain. I have searched online for a possible cause and have only found three possible solutions with one I really do not want to try. I have tried two of the possible solutions with no success.
One is to make a few changes in the registry that would enable remote desktop connections, and two would be to re-register the dll remotepg. The third option that I do not want to have to do is to repair install Windows.
Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what may be causing the tab to be missing or a possible work around (other than using a third party software).

Thanks for any help in advance.

When I made the registry changes, I had to restart. I thought registry changes took effect immediately. Hmmm....

Hi,

When I go to the General tab under System Properties, the processor is not listed. The RAM is listed but not the CPU.

I am unable to install McAfee and was told by the McAfee support rep that this was the reason.

Any ideas why the processor is not listed?

Thanks for your help.
