"unpacking" problem in RC installation

Q: "unpacking" problem in RC installation

Hi... I was wondering if anyone else is having same problem as me when trying to install the 32-bit RC. I have created a 50 gigs logical partition on my hard drive to install windows 7 on (i'm using Vista Home Premium on my Dell laptop). on installation screen i select the drive for the new installation and so it goes to the next screen where it shows a list of bunch of stuff that it's supposed to do. The first one is "copying files" or something along those lines which gets checked and so it moves to the second thing that is i believe called unpacking the installation files (or something similar). My installation "freezes" there as it shows 0% for about an hour or two and then it errors and cancels the installation.
any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Hello,
First let me tell you about my system.   This is an Inspiron
E1705/9400 laptop with the T7400 Core 2 Duo processor running at 2.16
GHZ.   It has 2 GB of RAM and a brand new 500GB Hitachi Travelstar hard
drive (7200 RPM).   It also has the GeForce Go 7900 GS video card.
It previously had Windows XP Professional (32 bit) and worked fine.
But, I have three computers in my home and home office and would like
them all to work better together on my wired home network, so I am
upgrading all three to Windows 7.   My two desktops (one is Dimension
XPS 420 and the other is Dimension XPS 430) seem like they will be no
problem to upgrade to Windows 7.   But, this laptop was not listed on
Dell's Windows 7 Compatibility List.   However, the Windows 7 Upgrade
Advisor that I downloaded and ran seemed to say that it was OK to do a
clean install of 32 bit Windows 7 and it only had a few minor concerns,
where it said to check for updated drivers from the manufacturer.   The
laptop originally came with a 100GB hard drive.   For my use, that is
getting very small, so I decided to get the same exact 7200 RPM drive
in the 500 GB size.   This will allow me to do a clean install of the
32 bit Windows 7 OS on the new hard drive and not have to wipe the old
drive to do it.   I can just hold onto the old HD and stick it back in
whenever I might ... Read more

first of all, hello to you all

as they thread title may allude; i am a little disgruntled at my first atempt to install my brand new genuine Windows 7 x64 Home Premium OEM

after the first 4 attempts at installing Win7 i managed to get around the installer asking for 'unknown device driver' by unplugging my card reader. I have been running XP x64 OEM for some time and have re-installed it at least 5 times and have never had any problems what so ever; if only the same were true for Win7!

having done some research it became clear that Win7 should take no more then 30-40 minutes to install; but here i am 23hrs later and it STILL hasn't even started installing yet; its still 'unpacking windows files' @ 99%...

has anyone else had this problem? if so, what did you do to fix it?

thanks in advance

A:23hrs - "unpacking windows files"

Welcome to Seven Forums.

Nice job on the system specs.

Sorry your having problems.
How long has it been at 99%?

We've made a list of questions which are the result of reoccurring incidents seen so far.
If you can have a look at these and give us your answers we'll be able to give you better suggestions.

Questions to use for help with Installation Issues

We have also seen people with AMD mother boards having these problems, try taking out all memory cards except one, if that doesn't work then move the memory card to a different slot and try again.

Do you have HyperTransport function settings in your BIOS?
There are two options in the BIOS Setup called K8 -- KN HT Speed and K8 -- KN HT Width, both are normally set as Auto. Change them to K8 -- KN HT Speed to 1x and K8 <-> KN HT Width to 8 8. You can change them back after the install.

If this doesn't work, then reply with more details and we'll try again.
EDIT:
Just read a thread where a guy with an AMD board was having similar problems said he turned off 'Cool 'n Quiet' setting (the feature that turns down the fan RPM). He also found a bad RAM stick by running memtest86+. After that Win7 installed with no problem. Might be worth a try.

Hi Everyone,

Here I am going to descibe how to change Windows XP from using "IDE" to "AHCI" mode post OS installation.

If your looking to install an SSD into a Windows XP computer you will likely find these instructions invaluable. Most XP computers (due to their vintage) are running in "IDE" mode,
and it turns out that SSDs perform best when running in "AHCI" mode!

The root of what follows comes from these instructions (so credit to those who deserve it!).

Also thanks go out to Alexoiu who pointed me in the right direction here...

INSTRUCTIONS

1). Download the appropriate SATA driver from your motherboard manufacturers site (the file is typically quite small, mine was under 2Mb)
2). Extract the file to your hard drive
3). Locate the ahcix86.sys file (you may need to uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" in order to see the correct file)
4). Copy ahcix86.sys
5). Paste ahcix86.sys into ..\System32\Drivers (typcially C:\Windows\System32\Drivers)

In Windows XP, fully updated, I have several folders full of mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

But all the figures in the "Duration" column appear to be in "hours" and "minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03", but what I want is "minutes" and "seconds".

Any thoughts as to how to change this?

I am trying to install Song Vegas 8 onto my Windows Vista via the installation disk.I have been having several small issues, first it takes forever to start installation and then when it does FINALLY begin installing I receive this message "Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, please run the installation again" why does it do this? what does this mean? and what on earth do I do?

Also to try and combat this I have already e moved the start up file to the desktop and have been starting the installation manually. Also I deleted some files to ensure I had enough space.

what on earth should I do???? I have been trying for three weeks to get this to work, I know it's probably a simple fix but I have no idea what on earth to do!

Immediately after purchasing an 8 GB USB flash drive with the intention of running portable applications off it on the various Windows XP machines I have to use, I had installed the Portable Apps Base (http://portableapps.com/suite) and then through it, several applications, including OpenOffice Portable, Firefox portable and Tucan Portable.

Probably after using the drive on one of my office computers, some files and folders seemed to become corrupted. After trying unsuccessfully to delete mysterious, un-openable files with special characters in their names that appeared seemingly from nowhere, I formated the drive.

After formating, I was able to copy data and music files from my computer's hard drive to the flash drive correctly. However, I am now unable to properly re-install the PortableApps Base program on the flash drive. Thus, the main purpose of buying it is
defeated.

The PortableApps software does seem to install, but when I double-click on the StartPortableApps.exe icon on the flash drive
(F:\Software\Portable\StartPortableApps.exe), I get various error messages. Sometimes the message says that only part of the read request could be executed, and sometimes I get "StartPortableApps.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close". I got the latter after scanning the drive with an antivirus (no virus detected) and then checking the drive for errors (F -> right clock -> Properties -> Tools -> Error checking).

Hi

I am trying to re install my Windows 7, to do that I am using an 64bit, OEM Home Premium version from Microsoft website. After all files are loaded and I am starting installation I am getting this message: "No new devices could be found. Make sure the driver files are correct and located on the driver installation media."

My first thoughts was that installer is missing SATA drivers to my Motherboard so I downloaded them and tried to add from my memory stick during installation but it didn't help, I also tried to switch to IDE mode but it didn't work also. Latter I created bootable pendrive with Windows installation but got same error.

Don't know how to deal with that problem, please help.
Computer that I am working on is Asus G73SW-a1 laptop, please let me know if I need to post any additional information's.

Thanks!

A:Windows 7 OEM installation problem- "no new devices could be found..."

The SATA drivers are all in the WIn7 installer as long as you downloaded it intact and wrote to stick or burned to DVD correctly as given in Steps 1/2 from Clean Reinstall - OEM Windows 7. Read over all the other steps too to make sure you are prepared to get a perfect reinstall.

First enter BIOS setup to see if there is an EFI boot disk in BIOS Boot order. If so remove it and wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command first to change to MBR disk.

If not check for newer BIOS update, if none reset BIOS to defaults: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS.\

Unplug all other HD's then wipe the HD as given above.

In the last couple days I've been trying to install Windows 7 over Windows XP (clean installation).

Unfortunately I'm having a problem pretty early on in the process. Whenever I try to press "Next" on the screen that has you select which partition you want to install it on, it says for me:

"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the setup log files for more Information"

I've tried deleting all of them, making a new one a certain size etc. with no luck. I even tried to load the C: drive but it said it wasn't able to reformat it for whatever reason (message I get is "Windows can't format C. Check to see that the disk and drive are formatted properly. Make sure that the disk is not read only, then try again.") I've tried logging into Windows in Safe Mode to change the security options for this problem but I don't see any preference about read-only properties.

I have also tried going through the steps in the stickied thread about this problem (using diskpart to mark a partition as active) and it hasn't worked.

(I am trying to wipe my computer completely clean and install Windows7, not along side XP or anything like that).

Anything you could suggest would be great, thanks in advance.

A:Installation Problem ("System could not create a partition...")

Did you run the WIn7 upgrade advisor to find if your hardware can run Win7? http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...e-advisor.aspx

If you still have XP on the HD, update the BIOS to latest version from maker's Support Download's webpage for your computer or mobo model .

Boot the Windows 7 installer, press Shift F10 at bootup, opening a Command Line, type:
DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK # (for Windows 7 disk)
clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
assign letter=c:
active
format
exit

Now boot back into installer to Custom install to partition you created.

If there are further problems, please reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Also in BIOS setup, check the SATA controller setting: Try AHCI first, then IDE if neccessary.

If these all fail, post back your System Specs at link in bottom left corner of your post.

Hi!
I got a new PC tonight, custom-built (from eBay) and I've been attempting to install Vista Home Premium x64 for the last 4 hours!

It supposedly had Vista pre-installed and was "ready to run" but the seller was obviously a liar. Because when I turn it on, this is what happens:

- a 'Biostar T-series' visual appears on the screen for a second (I don't know what that is)
- it then goes to a command screen with 'Hardware Monitor' and lots of CPU details

it then says:

Verifying DMI Pool Data ........
Boot from CD:
Press any key to boot from CD or DVD.....
A disk read error occurred
Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart

If I do press a key before the disk read error message appears it does bring me to the Vista installation screen. It then does install Vista, but when it gets to the point where the system needs to reboot, it just brings me back to the same command screen again.

I've tried to format the hard drive, and even attempted the system repair method (it found no problems with the system startup apparently). After I do the system repair process, instead of "A disk read error occurred", I get "BOOTMGR missing" instead, whatever that means.

At present, the computer is unusable, and I'm kinda pissed off cause I've wasted a whole night on this and will probably do the same tomorrow.

Any help would seriously be appreciated - thanks.

Remove the DVD so the machine boots from the hard drive on the first reboot during installation. Or set the BIOS to boot from CD first and hard drive second.

I am running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, on an Acer lap top PC.

I have several folders full of .mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. To do this I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

The two new columns appear, but the format of the "Duration" column appears to be "hours:minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03" for most .mp3's, when what I want to see is 'hours:minutes:seconds", e.g. "00:03:45".

This also happens for video files (.avi files), e.g. all my episodes of "Heroes" (sad, I know) have a duration of "00:42" instead of "00:42:xx".

Here are two pictures showing the problem with the .mp3's. The first is of Explorer showing the Duration as "Hours:Minutes":

The second picture is of the properties window of the first .mp3 in the list above:

I copied some .mp3 files to another (old) PC on my home network, and it displayed the duration field correctly:

Also, the properties window correctly shows the duration also:

I have had this problem numerous times in the past where the installation proceeds then ends with the messages:

During the installation of the device.
The system cannot find the file specified
and it goes into a detection loop

HERE is the solution:

Windows 2000/XP has a bug that it cannot properly detect new hardware by *.inf files, if the RunOnce registry key is missing for the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

This key is often used by installers to execute post-reboot programs, but sometimes they accidentally delete this key.

IMPORTANT: This article contains information about modifying the registry. Make sure that you understand how to backup and restore the registry, in case a problem occurs. Please read the linked Microsoft Knowledge Base article prior to editing the registry.
Go to Start » Run and enter "regedit."

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

With CurrentVersion Highlighted, go to the Edit menu and select New » Key

Name the key RunOnce, leaving everything else about the key alone.

The RunOnce key should now exist underneath the CurrentVersion key.
Once the key exists, Windows 2000/XP stops redetecting the Hardware

Hey

My problem goes like this:

I am running windows xp sp3 on a toshiba A205-4617 (it is supposed to be fully compatible with Win 7 by running the windows test and came preloaded with windows vista). The only hardware changed is the harddrive a WD SATA 320Gb Scorpio Black.

I was trying to update to Win 7 on all possible ways (with the CD, USB and external drive) and the problem is that the installation freezes at any time, approximately 3 minutes or less, it could vary a little. So I could not even move the mouse or press any combination of Keys.

After a lot of tries and "fixes" i discoverd that if I install wind 7 from safe mode I could install it without the freeze, the problem relies after the first restart when it comes back and says it could not continue on Safe mode, so if I do not continue on safe mode it will Freeze again and everything is lost.

I already tried to disable all the drivers from safe mode, but still seems like is not important and freezes as usually.

Also, another issue is that i could not install windows vista it freezes as the 7 installation (I could only install Xp).

I have already format the disk in low level, run memory test (memtest86), but everything seems just fine, no problems on the hard disk also by running tests and chkdsk /r.

I know it is a long history, but thanks for all your possible solutions

The story goes that I managed to contract a virus on my computer which caused a world of problems with the only (sensible) solution being to reformat and start a fresh (and obviously take more precautions to stop the same happening again in the future )

Before I reformatted I wanted to back up all my music, documents, pictures etc. so I moved all of my essential files (such as word documents and pictures) onto an external USB 80gb hard drive but the problem I had was that I wanted to back up my music, and for this I needed more space. I decided that I would back this up on the second hard drive (120 GB DiamondMax Plus 9) installed on my computer which should be left alone during the clean install of the system. I feel however that the virus may very well have made its way onto this internal hard drive as I shall now explain.

I unplugged the external hard drive from my computer leave the two remaining hard drives inside my computer and re-formatted and re-installed windows xp home edition. Straight away after the install I realised that the virus was active because my system was showing the same symptoms as before (Could not update antivirus/ spyware programs or visit their web pages to do a manual update, also accessing the internal drives on my computer brought up an error which I cannot remember the name of. Dear fellows.
After my windows 7 went down for some period and I couldn't have it fixed, Today I went to download a new version, windows 8.1. somehow I decided to format everything, and when I went to the system disk, at the first I tried to install the new windows into that disk but everytime I tried, It always says "No free space in this local, Windows requires 6018 MB free space". that system disk has had only the old version, which was windows 7 only installed in it. So, I decided to format it since it has nothing, only more taken space. now after I formatted it and continue'd the install. suddenly.. PC got auto restarted.. Well at the first I thought that the installation was done and yeah.. the new windows started loading it self but after the startup load finished, All what I could've seen is a black screen. I Restarted my computer, and now all what I can see is that; "Your PC needs to be repaired.. the boot confuring data is missing or it contains error"

NOTE: I took this screenshot from google, it's actually shows the same for my PC but with the windows 8 format.
Any ideas?

Hello,
Yesterday I decided to repair Win XP, by fixing the system files and keeping all my personal files. After the installation completed, the computer turned off. When I turned it on and it started booting it showed:
"-Boot Normally
-Boot in Safe Mod... etc."
I chose "boot normally" and the boot logo appeared. After few seconds a blue screen with white text flashed and my PC restarted.

I then "repaired" again, and it didn't help.
Then I installed Win2000 to try and copy my files, but when I tried to acess my "Documents & Settings" folder a "Aces denied!" message appeared.

I wonder how can I get this fixed. Maybe getting another HD, with an older OS and trying to copy the files... I don't know. Any ideas on how to get this fixed?

btw, saw the same problem being reported in 2 forums but without any replies.

This is IE7, site is on Win 2003 server. And, as I remember, it does not make any sence what kind of user is looged on - admin or not. The only solutoin was found to disable SSL and install OCX, then enable it back. Only installation is affected, OCX can be launched with SSL enabled.

Thanks for any help.

A:OCX installation problem with "SSL required"

please do this
Flash Fix (.osx)Click Start, Click on Run
Type into run:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash
Click Ok
Copy the Flash9.ocx file and then paste it back in the same directory.
This effectively will give you two files; Flash.ocx and Flash9.ocx, both the same file; although with a different name, in the same directory.

If that doesn't work try this:

Flash fix 9 (FlashUtil9b.exe)Click Start, click Run
Type this into run (or copy and paste)
C:\windows\system32\Macromed\Flash,
Double click on FlashUtil9b.exe
Follow the prompts and then restart your computer.

Hey folks,

My first post on here but I'm in serious trouble. I got a "new" (to me anyway) desktop running XP today and found the audio hardware wasn't working. So I pillaged an old machine for its sound card, and inserted that onto the motherboard. Also connected the Aux and CD lines to the top of the daughterboard.

Since then, to my horror, the machine has failed to boot. All plugged in, keyboard working, screen on and being used on another box for this very post. All I get now is the usual chirps from the internal soundcard followed by a few very low notes, definitely depressing so I guess they're suggesting something's failed. There's no further action from the CPU, the fan still works, but there is no screen output whatever.

Have I fried the motherboard without realising?!

Also, ironically, the last failure tone was delivered by my speakers through the originally non-responsive audio hardware!

I'd love a bit of help on this one, because my knowledge of computers' insidey bits is pretty poor.

Many thanks,

Joe.

Hi everybody,

I suddenly lost the ability to connect to the internet through cable. I think it is related to the security update addressing a vulnerability in kerberus (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3011780). I have no idea what it does, but I'm reasonably sure that it happened just after the update.

The network connection keeps cycling between "identifying" and "network cable unplugged" every 2-3 seconds.

I'm running windows 7 on an older lenovo laptop and I've tried rebooting, system restore, reinstalling the drivers, removing lenovo's connectivity program, uninstalling the security update manually but all to no avail.

A thread with a similar problem led me to try changing the "link speed and duplex" from "auto negotiation" to "10 mbps full duplex" under the advanced tab of the network connection properties, this gives me a network connection but no internet access.

Connecting the cable through the side of the computer changes nothing compared to connection through the docking station.

I can access the internet just fine through wifi.

Any ideas? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

My office just upgraded, and I can no longer use Windows XP. On this system, I was able to add a separate taskbar to facilitate quick access to commonly-browsed folder locations on our vast network, and another one expedited the launching of useful programs and lists. Each task on each taskbar was represented with a big custom icon to save eye strain. I had them installed in opposite vertical margins, and they were set on auto-hide to keep them out of the way when not being used. Just move your mouse pointer to the left or right margin, and BAM! Sorry for the cliche, but I really got used to the convenience of what I had set up, and I just don't think I can be as efficient without anything comparable.

Now there appears to be nothing comparable in the Windows 7 GUI, and it's making me sick with rage! I see only the option to put a "toolbar" on an existing "taskbar", and no option to create any additional taskbars! This cramps up your one-and-only taskbar, plus the tiny toolbar access buttons require way too much precision for anything that's supposed to be quick. When you've figured out how to bring up that ridiculous button, the list that it yields is small enough to cause painful eyestrain - nothing efficient, much less cool about this at all! I have seen customization options in other OS GUIs that may have resolved some of these issues, but I see none such in W7.

I have tried every google search string that I can think of, and found... Read more

Hello, TSG!

Just yesterday I was using the computer normally until I got a Blue Screen. Getting a blue screen is usually something normal that occurs to my every so often, so I didn't mind it and rebooted the computer normally. However, I got two more blue screens within the next hour. The 3rd time rebooting, my computer starts to act strange as if it had a virus. Upon powering up the monitor would just display a black screen with two lines about something --- which I don't remember, sorry --- and stayed like that unless I plugged out the power cord or held on the power button to shut down. Then when after a few tries it boots and displays a message "Floppy Disk Failure" and "Drive 1 not found: Serial ATA, SATA-1" (and the same message for Drives 2 and 3) show up. Also it asks me to continue loading by pressing the F1 Key.

When Windows loads the first time, it displays a message saying a bunch of hardware has just been installed and ready for use. Also, my internal clock resetted itself back to Monday, November 07, 2005 (Which, if I recall, is the date when I got the computer) and my speakers do not work.

TL;DR Version
3 blue screens within a short time
Floppy disk fail
Drivers 1-3 not found: Serial ATA, SATA-1-3

Anyway, I browsed through Google but I haven't seen anyone with both problems. I disabled my Floppy Disk Drive and that message doesn't show up anymore, but the others do and my computer still isn't fixed. I ran a vir... Read more

Hi,

When our website users click on an html attachment embedded on a web-page in IE9, the download manager will not display the "Open" option. It will only display "Save" and "Cancel" which our users don't like, having to save the
html document in a folder to open it. Whereas, when downloading attachments like pdf, word etc. all three options are displayed.

Is there any setting to tweak , which will display all the 3 options for HTML attachments as well?

A:IE9 download manager will not display "Open" option (only "Save" and "Cancel" is displayed) for downloading HTML documents.

Hi,
As you know, the Open-Save-Cancel dialog box helps you prevent your computer from affecting by virus while downloading.
So I suggest you test to reset all zones to a lower level temporarily and then please attempt to download this html attachment again.

However, since you can normally download the other documents, I suspect there is some restriction in the website which you are trying to view. I recommend you to contact the administrator of that website if possible.
could you please send me the link of the website from where you are trying to download the html attachment?
Thanks!

Hello everyone
Recently, I'm playing Anno 1404 (also called Dawn of Discovery) in my Vista Home Basic 32bit finely until I saw the problem with the "save/load" problem. First, it saves "systematically" but, the save is corrupted to a 5kb file. Second, the game can't load the 'properlly saved' save file, and also the corrupted one also.

Few of the players had the similar problem, and someone said that making another user account works, and I tried and really worked for me. Yes, I can play this way, but all of my files and infos are saved in the Administrator account, and I don't want to switch users just to play that game

Recently I found a useful MS program, which is runas, and found how to run as another account. It asks for the account pw, and everythis was fine, but it doesn't run my game
It just closes the cmd and nothing happens. What could be this problem?
I hope Ubi gives out this fixing patch fast

Symptoms: After performing a web search using google and click my desired site, my browser is usually redirected to one of the following sites: zapmeta, netster, romemaster, stopzilla, toseeka. It's different everytime.

What I've done thus far: I've run Spybot and Ad-Aware during a "safemode" session. These found a lot of "threats," which I removed. This did not fix the problem. I then tried to restore my computer to an earlier date, but that failed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

i have read a lot of messages here about fixing my problem and non of them was a success.

things i tried untill now:
1, disconnecting all drives beside the one i want to install w7 on it.
2. disconnecting a pci card of USB2 slots.
3. disable all usb controls from bios (my mouse and keyboard are connected with "blue" and "purple" connections)
4. disable floppy ( which does not exist)- which didnt solve the problem but made the installation much faster)
5. Change in the bios from PCI to PEG

Hi all,

I have a problem on using IE to visit any web site with return message "The address is not valid" always.

Symptoms:
1. my IE home page is set to "Use blank" which it should display "about:blank" in the address input filed. However, it initial address is now changed to "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=76277" and the content area shows "Internet Explorer cannot be display the webpage."

2. Anyway, here is the major problem. Whatever I type, e.g "www.yahoo.com", "www.google.com", it just return "The address is not valid" in the content area and the address field shows "http:///"

3. I try to search some help on the net and it told me to use the comment:

ipconfig /flushdns

which may help. However, I got the error "The requested operation requires elevation." to run the comment. In fact, I have the administrator privilege.

4. On the other hand, my msn messenger works. i.e. I can use messenger normally. which means my network configuration is fine.

So, it seems that my computer is infected. Could anyone help on this?

Hi, I have a brand new Asus Notebook laptop and Windows 8 OS and am using Office 2016 Proffesional. Ever since I started using the laptop, I cannot get the Home, End, Pgup and down (arrows) buttons to do what they're supposed to, nor do they respond when
I press ctrl+ either of them. This  happens when I'm working on Word. The cursor will move but it won't go to the next page or previous page, top or bottom of document. It will go the next or previous word in the sentence I'm tryping, or something
similar. When I'm on an internet site, I can sometimes get to the top of the page or bottom using the "alt+home" or other scrolling options. I tried using the arrows together with the "fn" key. Doesn't work either. I spoke to a Microsoft
techincal support person and they said they don't know what the problem is - might be something to do with the OS.
This is a very strange problem and I would most appreiciate some help here.
Thanks.

I noticed my computer is not starting up the same as it use to. I used Ad-Aware SE and it found "Win32.Mydoom.A". When i clicked to delete the file a popup screen said "Some objects could not be removed, Try closing browser windows prior to the removal. If this does not help, reboot and run Ad-Aware again."
The files were "c:\windows\system32\wmimgr32.dll". This file address was listed 13 times.
After I rebooted the system I got the same message.
I also tried and used xoftspy and superantispyware with no luck, then I tried to delete "wmimgr32.dll" manually but wasn't allowed to.

It's been a month since my laptop gone wrong. All programs doesn't run properly, and stop working many times. Media Player, Office, Internet explorer, all stop working frequently, and I have to wait ten second until five minutes to continue my work.

Two days ago I noticed that when I downloaded windows update, the updates wasn't saved in OS folder like it used to be. New folders named like "1ee10074..." appeared in my hard disk. I realized that the problems begin when I found new folder like this in my hard disk, and now the problems is getting worst after updates. I thought my "OS" was full, but the indicator say "11.8 GB free of 58.5 GB".

I can't delete or move the folder without permission, and try to copy them to "OS". Now each time I open a file, two windows are opened, one is my opened file and the other is blank window.

I don't have enough knowledge about computer. Can anyone help me, please?

A:How to fix "not responding" problem in all programs and "lost updates"

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

That temp file that you mentioned, is it in the root of the system drive?
In other words is it located here: C:\1ee10074....

If that is where it is, then it could be from a .NET update. They do not always remove that randomly named folder. Don't delete it just yet, go inside of it (say continue to the permissions security pop ups). If you find several folders with 4 numbers for the name, then it is probably from an update. Those numbered folders are for different languages. You can delete the folder if you want or just leave it. The folder is not the cause of your problems.

I downloaded a Weather program, and my Antivirus program found a Trojan in the program.
It got rid of the virus, but now every time I boot or reboot I get a message "C:\WINDOWS cannot find "weathersetup.exe" ". I have tried everything I could think of, but cannot get rid of the system trying to load this.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello all,

I'm new here, so please bare with me. I'm assuming this is the appropriate section of the forum to post this question, so here it goes....

I've just had Windows 8 Home installed over the past months, and have now come across a strange problem, which seems not uncommon from other posts at various places around the internet. The problem is that whenever I'm in a game and any other 3D related program and I try to move the camera or go into "mouselook" - it either goes crazy or the camera starts spinning. I've come to learn from researching, that the DPI adjustment setting (in Display) is the culprit (as I have mine set to 150 - since my monitor is dual resolution, it makes it hard to see the text any lower than that.) I've tried using compatibility mode, telling it to "Disable DPI" on high resolutions and have even tried using "Windows XP scaling" - to which they have proven to work but not without consequences - causing a good amount of drop in frame rate.

My question is... Does anyone know of a fix or a work around for this, other than using the Regedit or Display options, as I really don't want to have to change my DPI or have lower FPS.

Thanks!

Ok so I'm using a custom visual style made by another user however I don't really like the buttons used that I mentioned above. The creator states it is acceptable to change the theme to however you like as long as you don't redistribute it anywhere.

Ok so I opened up the .msstyles file (using Restorator) located in the theme folder of this VS. I went into the images directory and located what seems to be the images used for the buttons. Intuitively, it seems like it would make sense to replace those images with different ones (perhaps from another visual style) and it should change them. However, would this actually work? Could the theme get messed up in some other way (like proportions or something if the new button images are smaller)? I don't know of any other way to change them that would be easy.

But I did run into another problem. For some visual styles I can't even locate those buttons in the images directory. Where else would they be?

Hi all,

So I'm kind of stuck.. I currently have the problem where I am in an endless cycle of "loading files" -> "Windows Boot Manager" (see: How To Boot Into Safe Mode On Windows 8 (The Easy Way)).
I have tried to load all of the options -- and none successfully load.
I also end up at a OneKey Recovery as well.. unfortunately, the laptop does not have initial backup or user backup images.
I have a Windows 8 CD for repairing purposes.. however, I cannot load the BIOS/UEFI to change the boot order to load the optical drives first. I have also tried to remove the CMOS battery to fix it.. did not work. .
Also - Windows Boot Manager:
Windows Setup [EMS Enabled] -- does not load properly (leads to OneKey Recovery) Safe Mode (does not load properly) Safe Mode with Networking (does not load properly) Safe Mode with Command Prompt (doesn't load - tries to boot and load all files onto partition that is too small.. can't change partition?)
Enable Boot Logging Enable Low-Resolution Video Debugging MOde Disable automatic restart on system failure Disable Driver Signature Enforcement Display Early Launch Anti-Malware Driver
Start Windows Normally
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi everyone!

Yesterday my HP laptop (Windows 7) started getting BSOD with various types of errors (mostly "STOP: 0x00000F4", "STOP: 0x0000007A", "c00021a" and one "missing %hs, c0000135"). Most of the time it restarts without any issues and works fine right after the BSOD and then an hour or two later I get a BSOD again.

I have tried restoring to Last Known Good Configuration, startup repair, hard disk check, virus scans and I also uninstalled any recently added programs I could think of and cleared up more than 50% of my hard disk space. None of these seem to have helped and I still get BSOD regularly.

I have attached the folder from the SF Diagnostic Tool and would appreciate any advice!
Thank you!

I am using Windows 7 on my laptop and I have question about when to use "Home", "Work" and "Public" profile.

If I am logging in without setting password, and I am logging in network with "Public" profile, then will any other user, who can see my computer, be able to enter my computer and check the contents on my computer ?

I am connecting to a network and there are 6 other users connected to this network. In the set network location window, if I select the netwoek as "Home", does it mean that other 6 users will not be able to see my computer on network and if I use "Public", then all other six users will be able to see my computer on network ?

Thanks

Hello guys, the last week I've been strugling with these nasty BSODs. At first I thought it was my HDDs as ntoskrn.exe somewhat hinted towards that from googling it. My HDDs have been causing a lot of trouble earlier as well due to their somewhat long years of service. However, I've recently reformated my computer and installed W7 on a brand new Corsair Force GT 120GB SSD hoping the BSODs would go away, they didn't.

I googled BSOD and I stumbled upon this forum and I thought I'd give it a try. I'm somewhat desperate, as I need my computer working for both work, school and amusement.

I've been trying to run Memtest in order to test my memory but without any results. I'm also currently running on only on 4GB chip instead of two, to see if the problem still exists. Also, without any results.

This is the second time I'm writing this thread btw, I was just about to post it and my PC crashed.

Here is my two logs + dxdiag (last crash didn't generate a log oddly enough).

Here is additional hardware/gear that I use:

Razer Megalodon 7.1 Headset
Razer Naga
Logitech G19
Logitech C920 (Webcam)
Corsair 750W PSU

My temperatures are also good. Both CPU and MB idles at around ~25. GPU's all good too. I'm also using a Corsair 650D chassi with dustfilters at both air-income so dust is minimal. On top off this, I use airpressure to clean away dust somewhat regularly and I also did exactly this 2 days ago when I reinstalled the pc.

I can't seem to install Windows 7 on my PC after I installed my new ASUS EAH5450 Series
graphics card, but before I installed the card Windows 7 works perfectly fine on my PC,here's what i've tried to do

1.Restore BIOS Settings to default
2.Wipe the WHOLE hard disk
3.Remove the graphics card and try to install Windows 7

none have worked so I tried to check my PC with "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor" and the results came out, everything is compatible except my software which i will CLEAN install not upgrade.

My Spec is
Pentium(R) Dual Core CPU E6300 2.80GHz
RAM 2GB DDR2
Graphics card is (OnBoard) nVidia GeForce 7050
and like I said I installed ASUS EAH5450 Series (1GB DDR3)

A:Windows 7 installation hangs on "Completing Installation"

you might want to go back and make sure your bios settings are configured correctly, default is not necessarily optimal or correct.

formatting the drive in the window's installer is a good thing.

try it again from the top after confirming the bios settings. if you have all sata drives you might want to make sure ahci is enabled.

also you might try disabling the onboard video. if you can see the install process on the new video card it should be fine. also i am thinking that having both enabled should not be an issue, but it might be a driver conflict. having only one enabled simplifies things.

So i am installing Windows 7 Home Premium x32-bit to my laptop, which right now has Ultimate installed. I am trying to do a clean install. Every time i go trough the options, i never receive the window asking for type of installation (upgrade or clean install). image related.

I don't know if it's because i am have no way to upgrade. I tried this on another laptop that had windows vista, and it did not give me the option either. After installing Windows 7, i had some previous files show up on my newly install windows 7 laptop. I am planning on selling my laptop, and i don't want any of my files on the PC.

Thank you.

A:Installation of Windows 7 "no option for custom installation"

Download Darrick's Boot and Nuke (DBAN). Use it as input to a program like ImgBurn to create a bootable CD.

Boot it. When you get to the prompt, type autonuke and press Enter. Let it run for a few minutes. That will wipe out the MBR (Master Boot Record) and the Partition Table so the drive will be unallocated, unformatted (RAW).

Now start your install by booting the Win 7 install DVD. It will take care of everything for you and there will be nothing left of your data.

My e-mail recipients who, unfortunately, use "AOL" do not receive "links" in clickable, blue, underlined format that I send via Yahoo or Mozilla e-mail. The link text is there but not in active format. I know I am transmitting a properly formatted link, because I have tested my e-mails by sending them to two auxiliary accounts I maintain at Hotmail and at my ISP and they come through properly.

Is there an explanation for this "AOL" phenomenon? Can it be corrected? Many thanks from me and my e-mail recipients who are "AOL" subscribers.

I have an HP Pavilion and cannot get the machine to power down into Sleep Mode or Hibernation. When I first bought this PC the middle of last year I remember reading after my first Windows Update that the feature might be lost as a result of the Windows Updating process. However, as the months have gone by and more and more apps having been installed and loaded on to this machine, it now takes longer for it to boot up. I always liked the Hibernate feature on my old Windows XP machine, but since I lost the Sleep and Hibernation features on this machine and realized why they were gone shortly after having purchased it, I just went ahead with complete shut downs and cold boots. At this point though I'm pretty tired of the extended waits for the machine to boot up all the time so I would like to know if it's possible, and if so, how, I might get the Sleep or Hibernate features back on this machine.

I wasn?t sure what other Section to post this message in since I don?t see an applicable Heading, so I went with the General Folder.

uninstalled winpcap
installed winpcap (latest version) , unchecked "start driver at startup"

in /winpcap/ i ran "rpcpad.exe" (which should start the winpcap driver?)

ran wireshark: It can sniff my ethernet adapter but doesnt show the wlan adapter

Ok I've had this problem for quite a while now and I really hope that someone can help me fix it. Pretty much, let's take microsoft word.

I click on "File" then "Open". Then in the box that pops up, there is a space near the top of the box that is right side of " Look in: " It usually says "My Documents" when popped up. But when I click on the little arrow that's pointing down to see a dropdown of where else I can save to, the program freezes and I have to do a ctrlaltdelete. The same thing happens when I click on "File" then "Save As" and I want to click the little arrow to see a dropdown.
Anything that I am doing for that box to pop up and if I click that little arrow the program freezes. WHAT AM I TO DO!!! HELP PLZ!!

Hello, I recently had to move a couple XP Pro computers around and change their workgroup / workstation "Computer name". But now my "Run as" feature and remote desktop feature don’t work properly...don’t understand...read ahead...

OK, so lets say when I originally set up this one dell computer right out of the box, I set it up with the workgroup name being WS999 and my personal admin user account name was 999 on that computer. Then I moved that computer and changed its workgroup computer name to WS700, and then renamed my personal admin user account to 700 to match…for my own personal preference.

But now when I go to use the "Run as" feature (desktop icon, shift + right click, “Run as...”) in order to run a program with admin privileges through my admin account while logged on in a limited user account, it wants the original admin user name of 999 and not my NEW personal admin user account 700. For me to run the program as an admin, I have to put in the original admin user account name of 999 as the user for it to work. The same thing happens when I try to use remote desktop on the XP computers I have changed the workstation ID and admin user account name on.

I know I could use the built in MASTER admin account, but I don’t like too from previous problems and a super long PW All I did was go to “my computer” proper... Read more

Hi:

Looking for insight/advice re: KB3054476.

According to Infoworld, it was "Optional" in May, but I was not offered it then.
This week, it was offered as "Important" and "Recommended" (!), but only for one of my 2 Win7/64 boxes.

I have read the MS KB article, as well as THIS FORUM THREAD, the latter of which includes a report of a BSOD due to this particular update.

However, there isn't much out on the web about it.
And most of the discussion about it is overly technical for me.
And I am confused as to why it was previously offered as "Optional", but now is "Important" or "Recommended".

I don't *think* I "need" it (as I have no webcam on this box). And I don't like to tempt fate by fixing things that are not broken.

So, 3 questions:
Is it safe to install?
Is it really necessary/important?
Or would I be OK to hide it?
Thanks very much in advance!

A:KB3054476 offered as "Important"/"Recommended"/"Optional"

The status of updates changes with circumstances.
If an update isn't relevant, it won't be offered at all.
If however it's relevant but the related software is not apparently in use, it may be 'optional' - and gravitate to 'Recommended' or 'Important' if the related software is in use.
It can also be promoted through the hierarchy by MS depending on feedback through WU and error-trapped feedback.

If you have (and use) a webcam, then it's probably best to install the update.

You may want to reinstall the operating system.

Backupthe files that are importantto you before you reinstall.

The "New" installation will overwrite the current one

If you do not format your hard drive before the reinstall the installation should not harm your files (That's why I suggest backingup your files) and will speed up the installation process.

- A virtual driver failed to inicialize DLL. Chose close to end the program. H:/Windows/system32/code/pRee1.exe

- Error loading H:/Archiv~/GBPLUG~/gbiehcef.dll. Couldn't find specific module.

(sorry if some terms are incorrect, my computer is in Spanish, to I tried to translate as best as possible)

Please help me solve this terrible problem, it is really getting me on my nerves! (oh, and if this helps, I've recently donwloaded this so called "Limewire acceleration", and whenever I ran the setup, it didn't work. I don't really remember the name of the website I downloaded it from, sorry...)

First things first, thanks to all who can help.....

I need to programmatically make some adjustments to the Internet Explorer security settings. Most of these settings I have found but there are a few I have not been able to get a clear exact location for in the registry. I will be using a .BAT file to make
the adjustments on 100+ PCs.

Here is what I am looking for.....

Under the "Internet  Properties" found in control panel, under the "Privacy" tab there is an "Advanced" option button. When I click on it I get an "Advance Privacy Settings" options box. On it are several settings.
The first setting, "Override automatic cookie handling" needs to be checked in order to access the other options. I can do that by adjusting the DWord value of "PrivacyAdvanced" under the "Internet Settings" key in the registry,
"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet settings", to be specific.

What I have not been able to find are the registry entries for the "First-party Cookies" "Accept, Block, or Prompt" options, the "Third-party Cookies" "Accept, Block, or Prompt" options, and the "Always allow
session cookies" check box. Please see picture below....

I have seen references to the following settings as being where those options exist, but nothing that explains ... Read more

I have been using the same HP Pavilion tx1000 for a year and a half with no software or compatibility issues. I run Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 1 - 32 bit. Slowly this message began to appear with every microsoft program I opened and then started to spread to non microsoft programs. I tried reinstalling the programs, doing a system restore to the oldest restore point I could, I also tried uninstalling any window updates that were installed right before my problems. I have read some strings that indicate it may be a compatibility issue between the service pack 1 and vista but the service pack came with the computer and it has been working fine until recently. I am at loss what to try next. Has anyone using Vista Home Home Premium experience anything like this!!!

Hello everyone
I have this problem for more than 3 months for now...

The INSTRUCTION AT "0x00a96ce0"referenced memory at "000000000" couldn't be written".

That's always what i get when i restart my computer, just before screen goes dark.
I believe that it has to do something with Microsoft updates. The reason i believe this, is that i once reinstalled my PC and didn't have any problem until i didn't update my PC.
And i posted here that thinking my problem was solved but unfortunately i was wrong.

Please if you have any tips on this one let me know it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hello!

Well, I built a new computer for myself, every piece of it brand new. So I slapped a brand new harddrive into my old chassis and I'm setting that one up for my parents.

I tried to install a 32-bit version of WIndows 7 via Upgrade disk on a clean drive. Worked doing the 64-bit version on my new PC, but right about when it says "Loading System Services", it says the installation can't be complete and that I have to restart it.

Not sure what to do here. Looked up some solutions but they're not really helping.

A:"Cannot complete installation. Please restart installation."

Please fill in your System Specs in bottom left hand corner of post.

Where did you get Win7? Is this a disk which has successfully installed before? Did you burn it yourself?

If so after confirming or downloading another ISO try burning another using ImgBurn at 4x speed.

Reset the BIOS to defaults: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS. While in BIOS setup set SATA controller to AHCI.
Unplug all other HD's and peripherals.

If install fails again, post back exact error message text or you can google it yourself to see how others resolved it.

Next wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command from DVD utilizing DISKPART At PC Startup

Greetings,

I realize that I posted this thread previously, but I see that I had erroneously created it in the inappropriate forum (Windows Vista). However, the user "Macboatmaster" was kind and patient enough to provide me with assistance there, though I am still waiting on his following procedures.

In the meantime, as this is the Windows XP forum (my operating system is Windows XP), I wanted to formally post my dilemma here as well, as I thought that I may acquire more feedback. Here is the problem that I am facing, along with what Macboatmaster already suggested:

-I recently encountered some trouble on my pc (a BENQ) with respect to starting it up. During a recent system restore, a power failure occurred, and ever since I attempted to boot the computer, I receive the following error just before the desktop appears:

"Explorer.EXE - Unable To Locate Component: This application has failed to start because WININET.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem."

This error prevents me from accessing anything on my desktop (i.e. task bar, icons, etc.) - only the desktop background appears, and all that I have access to is the Task Manager (Control+Alt+Delete). Control+Escape does not allow me to have access to the Start menu. I receive the same error just before I get into the cmd prompt, but it appears that I am still able to use it.

What has been already attempted (Macboatmaster's suggestion):

Went to Task Manager >New ... Read more

Hi, I've repeatedly attempted this, but always get

An error occurred during setup. Restart your computer, then run setup again.

This is an all too typical message you can find associated with many Epson products.

I've tried:
Clean boot
Safe mode (install enabled)
Using an Epson removal tool I finally obtained after my 5th chat with Epson.
An Epson fix deleting temp folder and looking for setup.exe that never appeared.
On my 4th chat I was advised to consult Microsoft.
Manually removing all Epson folders and registry entries I can find.
Disabling firewall and AV

The same CD installed ok on my 6 year-old laptop (both run Windows x64).

I've found a couple of other fixes found by someone looking at the log file.
I've run SFC /Scannow - ok

At best, the scanner is recognised as being connected when plugged in, and appears with a yellow trangle under 'Other Devices' in Device Manager

Any ideas welcome - I'd like to use my new scanner
Thanks

A:Epson V550 driver installation "An error occurred during setup"

Hi, I've found a solution, albeit a tad obscure. Short story:
1. Install the driver normally, noting it fails, and the device is recognised when plugged in and appears in Device Manager under 'Other devices' with a yellow triangle.
2. There right click the device, update driver and browse to the CD used to install the driver initially, and to the driver folder.
Let the update run.

The scanner should now be installed.

From:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...?page=2&auth=1

which offers another approach too.

There are quite a few reports of Epson driver installations (various devices) failing with this message. Epson chat eventually referred me to Microsoft.... saying the original message was a Windows error.

Hi,
my attempt to install windows 7 today ended in !!!!
When I boot from the DVD, choose the Language and press "Install" I get an Error message stating "A DVD/CD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver CD/Floppy please insert it now..."

Here are my specifications-

HP Pavilion p6126f Desktop PC Product Specifications HP Pavilion p6126f Desktop PC - HP technical support (Austria - English)

I have experienced this same problem with Vista x86 and x64.
I am trying to clean install Windows 7 64bit.

I put the drivers on a thumb drive and Browse to it when 7 prompts me. Funny thing is, Windows 7 reads all the other files on the thumb drive like .psds, .flas, .skps, and so on.... but it just plays stupid to the actual drivers for the motherboard/chipset. The system rejects XP and I was forced to put Ubuntu on it. Ubuntu sucks, nothing runs. I know all about WINE to get some programs to run but I use the entire Adobe Suite.

Hi Everyone,

I am currently attempting to install Windows 7 on an SSD RAID Array, and I have encountered several issues (this has been a one step forward, two steps backward affair). The issue that I am currently facing is the fact that I am unable to load RAID drivers during the OS installation.

As is normal for this kind of installation I choose "Custom" and I cannot see any drives listed, this is the point at which I click on "Load Drivers" and then I select "Browse". My challenge is that regardless of how I "insert the drivers", which is to say whether I put them on a separate USB drive (FAT32 partitioned), or take the Windows 7 installation DVD out and insert a CD with drivers - I simply cannot navigate to the drivers.

Because I am unable to load the RAID drivers I simply cannot proceed with the OS installation.

*** Note ****

As of writing this I came across a program called RT Seven Lite, which has allowed me to create a "slip streamed" Windows 7 installation - using the program I was able to integrate the troublesome drivers into the Windows 7 installation disk.

Kind Regards,

David

But when I try to install the driver "Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver" the system crash.
I have installed the latest version of the BIOS (2.12) and changed some settings (for W7).

I have tried with the driver coming from the Intel site and with "Driver Genius" (same driver).
Do you have any advice to solve this issue because Asus doesn?t give any support for downgrade ?

FYI - I was not able to access your attachment.

Download/install/run <CCleaner> in my Signature. It's free.
Here is a tutorial, if you need it... CCleaner - Delete Junk Files
Sometime when an install fails, parts of the install program get left behind and ends up causing more problems.
CCleaner usually removes these program residuals.
Recommend uninstall the printer software and driver. Running CCleaner, then attempt reinstalling the printer software/driver.

As for your cartridge, last time I had that problem, I found removing the cartridge and reinserting it usually fixed the problem.

The CD/DVD device driver is a part of Windows and is installed automatically. What type of CD/DVD drive do you have? Is it an IDE or is it SATA? Boot into Setup (Bios) is the drive listed there? If IDE, set the jumper pin to CS (cable select)

Ok I've got a problem with my Empire Earth game.
I wanted to install the game on my new Windows 7 computer, I was able to install it on my Vista computer. So when I put the CD in and clicked install, a few moments later a pop-up relating to Autorun appeared, it said The installation program could not be found.
"E:\Setup.exe"
I kept clicking install and ended up with another pop-up
E:\SETUP.EXE is not a valid Win32 application.

I had lost the system requirements for the game, and I'm not sure if it had something to do with them.

My system requirements are as shown:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_rtm.090713-1255)

Memory: 2048MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 2048MB RAM
Page File: 1769MB used, 2325MB available
Windows Dir: C:\Windows
DirectX Version: DirectX 11

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Empire Earth won't start installing "The installation program could not be found"

Have you tried starting the installer in compatibility mode?

Right click on "setup.exe", select properties and navigate to the compatibility tab. Enable compatibility mode and then select an OS from the list (I suggest running the program in Windows XP compatibility mode first).

Additionally you can try running the installer as administrator. Just right click on the installer and select "Run as administrator" from the menu.

Its me again........
I had my second laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

My problem occurs when I try to downgarde [clean installation] to Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit (using CD / DVD installation). This is what I do: -

1. Select "Custom (Advanced)"
2. Select "Particion 2 (Primary)"
3. Then it erorr at "expanding the Windows files". (I forget what the erorr) & told me to restart.

Then, Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart error appear.

Then what I do after that is, try to install the with my other version of Windows, the Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit (this one using USB for Installation), I repeat the same way as above, and really surprised me everything went smoothly, no error.

If is the DVD ( Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit ) is main problem, but it when okay on my dad & bro pc & I just bought it 3 months ago.

This problem is not a new problem for me, but already this already thousands times this problem occurs when I try to make a "clean installation" on my first & second pc.

Plus, both are still consider a new laptop [1st laptop - 2009 & 2nd laptop 2011 ]

(Note, this is a mirror of a very similar thread over on the Microsoft forums)

So I got this Optiplex 745 and figured I could just throw in a hard drive, install Windows 7, and everything would be good. This has actually been the most frustrating setup I've ever experienced - full details after the break (specs):

Dell Optiplex 745
Intel Core2 Duo 1.8Ghz
1GB of RAM
MM599/KW628 Standard Motherboard
Intel Q963 Graphics

So like I said before, I grabbed a hard drive and threw it in. I discovered that I needed to change some settings in the BIOS that had been mucked up by the previous owner (reset from a motherboard battery change perhaps?) by disabling the (nonexistent) floppy drive and enabling the SATA port that my fancy shmancy SATA hard drive was on. Useless details aside, I got things to a workable point and proceeded on to install Windows 7. Everything went smoothly - I put the DVD in, it asked me where I wanted to put Windows at, so I cleared the drive and it got to work. It went through all the checkboxes except for the last one and reported that it needed to reboot - still completely normal. After a rebooty, we got to the "finishing installation" phase, and the screen blanked out at the point where it loads the graphic drivers to a black screen with no mouse. The monitor's "info" button revealed that the computer was now outputting 1360x768 to it which meant it had located the graphic driver. Subsequent restarts of the computer wo... Read more

Hi all,

I am having trouble installing my copy of Vista Home Premium 32-Bit.

I ran an evalutation version of Vista Home Premium and then formatted the HDD using an OEM copy of Home Premium I bought (I formatted before the trial period had expired), and then proceeded to install the OEM copy, and the installation ran fine untill it rebooted for about the second time after which the screen displayed; 'Completing installation', at which point the progress bar at the bottom froze. The DVD stopped spining, although I think I could still hear the HDD whirring.

After half an hour or so, I got a blue screen display which said;

"STOP ERROR c000021a NT initial command process system process terminated unexpectedly with status of 0x0000001 (0x00000000 0x00000000)"
It then began a crash dump and rebooted after several minutes.

I have since Installed Windows XP Pro (which installs fine - no errors) and repeated the OEM Vista Installation through the XP OS - but to no avail, the same error occurs.
Now that I am running the Vista Installation through XP, each time the error occurs and my PC reboots, my BIOS asks me to select which option to boot;
- Windows XP
or - Windows SETUP

The XP option works fine, and brings me back into fully functioning XP OS (note that I didn't format HDD, I installed Vista on the same partitian - all XP files were to be moved to "windows.old" file after Installation completes according to Vista Installation)

I recently downloaded the PC game Sacred 2 via direct2drive - and when executing the Sacred 2 Installer .exe it gives me the error, "This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package." I've tried running it in compatibility mode, I've tried searching for a download for Windows Installer to reinstall, and I've tried creating an alternate Administrative Profile on this computer and installing it in that account - no dice. I uninstalled bcm20702 and then located it again, the drivers sort of installed after that. Now the option to add a bluetooth device is there after I installed the proper software, but I cannot add the driver for the bluetooth peripheral device part. I just get Drivers were found for bluetooth remote controller but had an issue installing "access denied". (I select the right part of the cd where the drivers are). On device manager there is bluetooth radios. under it is Broadcom bcm20702 bluetooth USB 4.0 device. As well as Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator. those two have drivers.
