Can't install anything anymore.

Q: Can't install anything anymore.

Well, I thought I might actually try my hand at installing my Windows 7 x64 Pro student upgrade from Digital River finally today after I found the iso.

All has gone to hell.

First, I tried installing 7 to a second drive then activating it. Got the whole this license is for upgrades not clean installs.

So, I try some of the workarounds, which just ended up blue screening my computer and could no longer boot and a repair did nothing.

I tried installing 7 over my Vista install on the other Hard Drive, it failed during install and I had a half done 7 install on my Vista, which screwed up my MBR.

I tried reinstalling vista then installing 7 again (Note this is Vista 32bt HP to W7 64bit Pro, so no upgrades). Vista would just blue screen during install, each time I tried it would give a different error.

Now, I have two blank drives, so I try installing 7 back onto it like I had before, now the install fails every time with the error oxC0000005 in the installing features phase.

Seems that I am SOL?

This is a computer that has been running fine for the past year and never blue screened.

A: Can't install anything anymore.

If the registry edit workaround to clean install Win7 upgrade is failing, it may have been incorrectly done which could also cause the bluescreen.

Boot from your Win7 installer and wipe the HDD using Custom>Advanced tools, then if necessary install without giving key - It might take the key when booting from installer since regedits would only affect the OS and you are no longer in the OS>

When you get to the desktop, if it has refused your key up to this point, run a repair (Upgrade) install over your new install from the desktop, which will allow you to give key and activate when online.

Here is the way to burn the student download if you haven't already: Make bootable iso from student d/l

Vista Home Premium SP1 64-Bit (OEM – Gateway)
540GB – Free storage space
6GB RAM memory
Downloaded SP2 form Microsoft: WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB914961-SP2-x64-ENU.exe

1. Last month, I was able to install Vista SP2, but now after redoing my system, I cannot update to SP2 anymore. I get the error:
“Not enough storage to process this command.”
2. Gateway will not give me support since I am updating to SP2 (SP1 is the OEM when I bought the computer).
3. Microsoft will not support me either since I bought an OEM-OS system, unless I pay the $59 for the service.

1. Ran as administrator
2. Ran in safe-mode
3. “IRPStackSize ” missing in my registry. Added “IRPStackSize” to my registry and set the value from 1 through 50. For my system, I had to use the “QWORD (64-bit) value”.
4. I tried CURE.ZIP
5. Uninstalled Norton Ghost 14

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have zero idea what happened. I went through the list of stuff the Microsoft boys suggest on their site, to no avail.

Basically, every time I try to execute an installable .msi, it says the path to the msi on the first line. Below that, it says "Access is denied." I did everything, barring contacting their support boys.

Blah. All I want to do is install Python. I even downloaded another msi for another program and tried to run it, but that didn't work. If there is any other information I can give, just ask. This is driving me insane.

I have been running windows 7 professional since it came out. Ihas been great until about a few weeks ago. I have noticed a couple things.

1) when i click the start menu and start typing the name of a program is is slower and
usually finds documents instead of applications that i may be searching for.

2) more important - i cant seem to install software anymore. Any time i go to install software,or even install anupdate to something like itunes or windows live photo gallery, it goes through the install but whenits dont, the software doesn't seem to actually be installed. It will have an entry in the start menu but nothign is there. Like Live photo gallery has a generic icon instead of the correct app icon, and when i click on it it says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have he appropriate permissions to access the item."

I had a heck of a time getting itunes to update to the latest version the other day. I had to install and uninstall it several times. When I tried to do a complete uninstall, part of the process was to go to program files and delete the itunes folder but when i tried, it said that i did not have permission to do so.

so lots of weird things seem to be happening, but the biggest problem is that i cant seem to install apps.

any ideas on how to resolve this?

I ran a complete systemscanwith Microsoft security essentials and it found and removed a couple items but that didn't seem to resolve anything.

A:Can't install software anymore

Install Malwarebytes, update and run a Full Scan.

Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Can you System Restore to before the problems began? If necessary run the Restore from the DVD or Repair CD: System Recovery Options

Study the Event Viewer>Custom>Admin View to google repeat errors to resolution. Also the Performance log on Advanced Tools page accessed by clicking your WEI score link at Computer>Properties. Look for cued issues at top of Tools page, Generate a System Health Report.

Type "Problems" in Start Search box to see if there are solution to problems sent or not.

Consider a Repair Install

These problems frequently crop up when 3rd party tweaks or optimizations are applied, which will always come back to bite you in Win7 since it is already a lean, perfectly balanced OS. You may need to Clean Reinstall to overcome the problems if the above doesn't help.

Hey =)

My screen randomly froze yesterday (stayed locked, couldn't move mouse or anything) and now W7 is stuck at "Starting Windows". The little icons won't appear and it stays stuck there for hours.

In safe-mode it gets stuck at CLASSPNP.SYS and locks.

Trying to reinstall doesn't work, it just reloops. I tried with another HDD, with new RAM, with another Video-Card, reset CMOS, nothing works.

Surprisingly, I can boot up Ubuntu just fine atm, no problem whatsoever.

I had this same issue when I had Windows Vista....anyone able to figure out what's happening?

It's a long story. But Windows Media Center wasn't working, so I tried doing a repair install of the OS. Things stopped working even more. Then I did an Upgrade install of the OS. I think things work a little better. But I can't install any Windows updates now. Currently, it only offers me Microsoft Windows Installer and Service Pack 3, and I can't install either of them. You're my last hope to figure this out before I do a clean OS install and start fresh. I'm running Windows MCE, 2002 edition. I've uninstalled every .Net framework item in the hopes that it would help. I need you guys now.

I'm using windows 7 home premium and a while ago I was using printers, pdf printers, etc. without any problem.

But for a few months now I can no longer use or even install them.
I have a HP printer (plugged in directly with USB) and when I download the newest version of the installer it skips most steps and just says it's finished without doing anything.

When I try to install any pdf printer I only get errors (I tried 3 different ones).

How can I fix this?

Hello all!

I am having the strangest problem that I have EVER encountered...

For some reason, Windows 7 will not let me install ANY drivers anymore. The problem gets even stranger... Lets say I have a USB device that already has the drivers installed on one of the USB ports. If I move the device to a new port, Windows will not install the driver on the new USB port even though Windows already has this driver installed on another port. This problem is not limited to any specific device either, it applies to new HD'S, pci devices, and pcie devices. I have even gone so far as to disable all running application, unnecessary services, etc. I am thinking that there is some setting somewhere or maybe a inadvertent registry change...

Reinstalling windows is an absolute last resort as this will take me a considerable amount of time due to the somewhat intricate configuration of this machine.

Does anyone have any possible idea what could be causing this?

A:Can not install ANY drivers anymore...

Can you manually install drivers? When I hear "intricate configuration" that makes me think you've done all kinds of unnecesaary tweaks and changes. Windows 7 is quick and efficient out of the box, and if it takes longer than two hours to get your basic system wiped, reinstalled, and're doing too much to it! Disabling services can easily lead to instability and weird issues, such as this. That's why the best tweaking advice for Windows 7 has always been "leave it alone".

Hi --
I bought an Asus G50-VT with Vista pre-installed. There was some sort of glitch while I was overnighting the download of a long file. Anyway I wound up at what I can only say was the blue screen of death except now it's white. It told me that Windows could not restart and I should insert my installation disk to repair a busted file which it also named. Looked and I had no installation disk, indeed I did not have any Windows disks at all included with the machine. I called Asus Tech Support. They told me that Microsoft no longer lets OEMs ship the windows disks. Although there were two disks called "recovery disks" the TS person said my only option was to hold down f9 to rebootr and WIPE THE DISK AND REINSTALL WINDOWS! So I lost all my data and have spent all morning recovering.

Was Asus right? You do not get install disks anymore even though a system message tells you to insert it??? I only have a few days in which I could return this computer. Do other manufacturers like Sony or Hewlett Packard supply Windows Vista installtion disks with their machines? Or is Asus right? If it is just Asus that does not do this I feel I need to return this right away.

Can someone please help me? THanks!

A:They Don't Give Install Disks Anymore????

Yes Asus is right, it is essentually a disk with a windows image on it. I too have the G50-VT A1 and found that I didn't even need the second recovery disk to restore windows. You do however need the first recovery disk and the driver disk to do a full restore to an OEM state. There is also a recovery partition on the second HDD

Alright so the full story is that my cousin downloaded the windows 10 preview on his laptop. Due to it being the preview, he was having issues with his network drivers. He attempted to downgrade back to windows 7, but was unsuccessful. He attempted to downgrade using a USB since he owns an ultra book and therefore no disc drive is present. He got the bright idea to just format the partition, but he ended up trying to format in FAT32 rather than NTFS. When i pointed out the difference, he interrupted the process and shut the computer off. At this point i stepped in to try and help him. I had to remove the hdd from the laptop and use another computer in order to use access the drive ( since the computer had no OS anymore ) and format it back to NTFS. After formatting the drive back and making it active, we attempted to use the usb stick to install the OS, but no BOOT MNGR was present. I went back to plugging the laptop hdd back to the other computer and putting the windows installation files directly on the hdd. Now with a boot mngr present i was able to access the windows 7 installation screen. At which point i attempted to install windows on the hdd. I keep getting the message "Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computers hardware". That happened with some other games i installed.. i have the same windows version on my desktop and there i never had any problem instaling just on my laptop.. I have vista home premium 64bit.
I already tried to go to the setup and run it in compability mode but still doesnt work..
What should i do? How come i use to be able to instal and now im not?

A:vista wont install some games anymore..

I have had the ability to play older games. I speculate that after installing SP2 on the x64 you lose the ability to install/play older x86 games. I cant play my MechWarrior 4 anymore and it has me annoyed. I also assume at times...even though sounds stupid..that newer hardware is just too high end for older games that they cant be installed on them. I know its silly but possible. Just keep trying in compatibility mold all the way back to windows 2000/xp settings and try it out more. It might just work if it feels like it.

A:After i did a clean install audio isnt loud anymore

No System specs provided so we can only offer general suggestions.

The first suggestion is, did you install all the device drivers after install. In the case of the sound, in most cases, the PC or motherboard vendor as applicable, sound drivers should be used. Non-Vendor can either not work or not work properly. If no drivers were installed usually Windows will install the basic function HD Audio Codec for sound.

About a month ago, I used the built-in Windows 10 recovery method to reinstall Windows 10. I still had a few glitches from my original Windows 7 installation, and these have been resolved by the reinstall.

One thing I've noticed, however, is that I'm getting an error message whenever I try to install the definition update for Windows Defender:

Definitie-update voor Windows Defender - KB2267602 (definitie 1.215.1024.0) - Fout 0x80070643

I already tried sfc /scannow, and it didn't find anything that required fixing. I also tried MicrosoftFixit.msi and NetFxRepairTool.exe, because Googling the error message brought me the news that it was related to the .NET framework.

To be clear: I don't use Windows Defender right now. I got Norton Security installed and it serves me well. I know some people consider it a resource hog, but I've tried Avira as a recommendation by Tom's Guide and it was even worse. My Norton still lasts over 200 days so I have plenty of time if I want to replace it by then. However, I do want Windows to be fully updated, and not having that update finished just stands out like a red ship in a sea of white.

I've considered that this error might be because of Norton, but I didn't have issues before resetting Windows, so I don't see why it would be Norton that suddenly throws a fit about it.

How do I fix this?

Hello, I was giving my computer a general tidy up and it somehow caught WIN32\Gaelicum.A. This prevented me from doing anything but accessing safe mode. So i followed a couple of guides and through safe mode managed to remove the virus.
Overjoyed, I rebooted to normal mode and proceeded to log in. However after entering my password and attempting to log in i was logged straight out without so much as seeing my desktop. I also tried pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del twice and trying to log in via administrator. However the same thing happened.
So I thought right something has been added to my startup folder to log me out as i log in so i went to safe mode to try and remove it in that. But the same thing happened in that.
In a last ditch attempt to remove the suspected script from my startup i loaded up my Ubuntu live CD and accessed the folder through that. Only to find it empty of everything but the desktop.ini file.
I should say i have XP Home and no XP install CD or recovery CD because my OS came installed on the laptop from the manufacturer. And the recovery partition is also corrupted somehow so i cant restore. Any ideas on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated as although I have all my important files backed up and i could use Ubuntu for most of my needs, I need access to XP as I am working on a project for school which needs to be completed by the start of term in august and there is no equivalent software available on Ubuntu.

A:Can't Log In to XP anymore

Hi and welcome

Sorry for delay. we're quite busy here.

Bad news I'm afraid....

Win32/Gaelicum.A is a nasty file infector. It is also network aware and can spread to other machines on the network.
Even though your antivirus program detects it and can quarentine/heal some of the files it will be near impossible to clean up entirely.

I suggest to take this machine off the network entirely untill you can either clean it or you re-install everything. Your other machines should be thourally checked by a couple good virus scanners too.

With a file infector such as this the only way I would trust the system is to do a full format/reinstall of your operating system and all your programs.
Even if antivirus can heal many; often the file is corrupted beyond repair and wont work after virus code is removed. You cannot even trust your antivirus program as parts of it will be infected as well.

I do not suggest backing up any of your programs because this virus looks for and infects all executables on all drives. Your backups will need to come from known good cds or dvds or re-downloaded from the internet.

Your documents, mp3s & pictures should be fine to back up.

Sophos description (they have different name)

If you don't have the resorces to format/re-install we can try & fix but I cannot guarenty our success or system integrety afterward.

I have tech service through the ISP I have. I noticed that Chrome was running kind of sluggish and figured, since it was there, I contacted tech support. The tech removed Malwarebyte, Super Anti-Spyware, Advanced System Care, two registry programs I had and Baidu browser and Baidu Speed up. He said almost everything could be done with programs already available in Windows 10. He tried to show me but he was so darn fast I could hardly keep up. I told him among all the programs only Super Anti-Spyware found 470 tacking cookies! He said that it was OK and they were harmless and I could access them from another Windows cleanup selection. Are all these programs that are 3rd party out there junk? When I used them I found so many problems, weaknesses and vulnerabilities. But to have them be deemed mostly useless, he did say MOSTLY useless, I am really confused. Been messing with computers for over 20 years and always used 3rd party Virus, spy ware and optimization tools regularly. Are they just programs that cue into certain functions of Windows and isolate them to make a program that is already in Windows but makes it sort of a short cut or are they really valuable? I am reinstalling a couple of things the tech deleted whether he liked it or not. As for the rest, I just don't know.

It all started when I was defragging last night. I got a couple BSOD's while doing the defrag but idiotically I just ignored them, restarted my pc and continued to defrag. After the third BSOD restart is where I died inside. When starting my pc, after the Windows XP loading screen it goes to a black screen and stays there. I try to go into safe mode but it freezes when loading drivers. I tried to do a repair with the Windows XP Setup CD but after it loads the drivers it goes to a BSOD with the following STOP message 0x0000007B. I've searched online for help and have used many utility cd's and diagnostic tools with no success (P.S. one of the utilities is a live cd and it BSOD's when starting up). There's nothing wrong with the RAM or Hard Drive, the partition table and boot sector are fine, the MBR and MFT are fine. I plugged my HDD into another computer as a secondary drive and I can explore the contents of my HDD (while using the primary drive in that computer). I suspect there may be a problem with a controller because I put a backup hard drive in my computer and tried installing Windows XP but I get the BSOD again; it's really weird because I used a SATA connection for my original drive and an IDE connection on my backup drive (is this a northbridge/southbridge issue?!). Is there any way to fix this (preferably without formatting or buying any new parts)?! And if there really is something wrong with a part and/or controller, why did none of the diagnostic tools recognize ... Read more

A:Can't use pc anymore?!?!

well there is a technical way but I doubt you're up for because it uses linux however, a simple way is to reinstall the version of windows but without formatting the harddrive this should fix the issue. you will gain access to the computer as if it were normal you can backup your documents, music, etc. and then reformat the computer.

Hello everybody,

This is my first post here, I got into a situation with my computer that I don't know anymore how to go on... hope I can get some help here.

It started when I was searching for a little freeware to change my desktop wallpaper automatically. After being redirected few times I found and downloaded "Desktop Wallpaper Timer 1.6.9.exe" (don't remember the web address, I was not attentive). I've scanned it with NOD32 and no threads were found.

After I tried to run it, a disaster began.

First I've noticed the message in the taskbar: "Your security center service is turned off" when I tried to turn it on again it was not possible. Says simply the security center service can't be started. I opened regcleaner by jouni vuorio to remove the new thing, under "software" was written that the FirstRRRun has been installed.

I removed it and than:
- NOD32 simply dissapeared - message: The program doesn't exist
- The same story with Spybot Search&Destroy
- Same with Registry Mechanic
- Not able anymore to connect the internet: "wireless wizard can not be started" (I'm writing this from another computer)

I tried to reinstall NOD32 - Not possible: Message "106 Error Occured while extracting archive file"

Can not reinstall spybot either

With another computer I've searched for AV programs like AVG free, Kaspersky trial, F-prot trial... None of them can be installed. All give messag... Read more

A:Don't know anymore...

Seems the problem has been resolved. I've used no-need-to-install AV Dr.Web. It found and removed 2 worms Win32.HLLM.Beagle. After that I was able to reinstall all programs and fix all other problems.

Here's the new log

Hi my name is Liryc and I'm new to this forum, and I am hoping that someone can really help me before I put a hammer to this computer cause its driving me insane. I have been having some problems with it. I recently found that I had a virtumonde virus on the computer, after speaking to the IT guys at my job they told me what to do to remove the pesky little problem. I thought that I did the right thing cause it started running instead of freezing on me when I turned it on. But what I realized is that now the computer is working alot slower than before. I ran Ad-Aware, and Spybot and they located some critical things on the computer. I also had a pop up about mdmcls32.exe. I checked on the computer to see what it was.. Found out that its a trojan. I'm just tired right now of all this crap. Can someone please help me. I've deleted some from the registry and I've ran Spybot more than 1 million times. Hi there,

I have an old Dell XPS M1530 and wanted to salvage the hard drive, buy an enclosure and use it as an external hard drive. This is what i typed in:

select disk 0
create partition primary
select partition 1
format fs=ntfs quick

Do i need to do anymore? or can i just put it in an enclosure and use it as a hard drive? and will i have the 320 GB on the drive to use?

A:Do i need to do anymore?

I think you are OK.

But I'd go back into diskpart and look at the results.

Probably with these commands

List disk (should show disk 0)
Select disk 0
List part (should show partition 1)
Select part 1

Do you see a part 1 with the expected size?

If so, you are good to go, but you can always recheck in Windows Disk Management after you get it connected.

I'm not sure, but I don't think you have to assign a drive letter in diskpart.

As the title says,

Where can I find XP these days?

I'm wanting to put it on the HTPC I'm building, simply because it's cheaper than Win7. Would prefer XP Pro for the IR support, but not neccesary. I'm working with a hauppauge HVR-1600-MC, it supports XP SP2 up through 7x64, so it's just a matter of price....

I know i could find Vista dirt cheap, but i wouldn't want it for the same reason as the next guy.

At the same time, I don't know if the board (GA-MA78LMT-S2) is supported by XP?

A:Where to buy XP anymore?

It is very expensive as it stands.

Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2: Software

Just type into google 'Buy XP pro' thousands of options.

Hopefully someone can help me out because I am a novice when it comes to computer skills. In the last few weeks or so my internet has been acting up and keeps crashing on me witha message reading that I have had some serious error and needs to close, allowing me to report it to microsoft. I ran AVG 8.0 (Free edition)and Spydot. They seemed like they got rid of things and everyone was going okay but my internet was still acting up.

Now, in the last few days that problem has gone away but I believe have malware on my computer. I keep getting pop ups from avg saying trojans like Vundo.FJ and BHO.HYT are on my computer and should be fixed, which AVG supposably does.

Currently, I keep getting new windows of internet explorer opening, kind of like popups, that I never did anything to that are from really random sites. I am not sure how that helps but I figured I would throw it in here.

From my little knowledge of computers I used "run" with msconfig and noticed that in my startup it says that I have these three things that I know should not be there. They are:
1. ruyopaku
2. tukuhegu
3. hagijifa or metadomo (It keeps changing between the two for some reason)
They are all rundll32.exe, whatever that means.

This is what I did to get rid of it, besides running my two spy programs, so hopefully I didn't screw anything up.
1. I used "run" an went to services.msc to stop Backgroudn Intelligence
2. I used "run" to look at the registery edit... Read more

Hello Everybody!

First of all, sorry about my English!

So.. I have a super huge problem. My computer was working fine for like 2 years until Sunday. That's when I checked my computer and saw a message: Windows was unable to save file: D:/... etc.. (I'm sorry I didn't write it down.). It froze down. I couldn't do anything. I had to Reset the computer, but since that time the computer is unable to see my D: hard drive, which is a Seagate.

You should know my configuration:
I have a Compaq Presario SR1911X with 2 hard drives. One is for the Windows XP: Samsung SP2004C, the other one is for all my data (photos, music, emails, everything!): Seagate ST3200826AS. This is the one which is not working.

I took my computer apart and tried to change the cabels, just to see if it's a cabel problem. It's not. And I can hear that the HDD has power because it gives me the sound.. But the only problem, that the computer doesn't recognize it anymore.

Please Please Please people, help me!!!! I don't want to loose all my data, expecially my photos. Also, I don't have the money to get it to a data recovery comptany.

Thank you!

A:Can't see my HDD anymore!! Please Help me!!

It sounds like the hard drive died. Good thing you backed everything up, huh? Data you don't have at least 2 copies of is data you don't want to keep.

Is the drive even spinning? Did it make any noise before quitting? If there is no access at all, a data recovery company may be the only answer. But they can cost 1000's of dollars, too.

You could try some hard drive tests if they will run on it.

Free Hard Drive Testing Applications:

Manufacturer's Tests
Victoria for DOS
Victoria for Windows (Both versions of Victoria are among the best and most thorough tests available.)
HD Tune
CheckDisk 1.03 (Marks bad sectors as unusable.)
HDAT2 (Diagnostics and bad sector recovery)
MHDD Low-level Diagnostics
Bootable Hitachi Drive Fitness Test Floppy or CD Image (works on most drives)

Hi, welcome to TSF.

I'm currently at work so my assitance will be brief:

I want you to search for these files on your computer and make note of if they exist. If they do, we'll need to delete them in Safe Mode:

Enable the Viewing of Hidden Files, and then search:

Reboot your computer to Safe Mode and then delete any of those found above, includining this folder:

C:\Program Files\winupdates\

while in Safe Mode run HJT and fix:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winupdates] C:\Program Files\winupdates\winupdates.exe /auto

Reboot and report back with a fresh HJT scan.

I've been trying to get rid of this problem:

When my computer goes Idle my Connection drops.
I Just closed Firefox and my connection dropped.
It drops randomly and constantly ( weird huh ) every 20 minutes or random browser closes.
It happened about 4 or 5 months ago, then went about 2 or 3 months with out the problem, now its back!

My equipment:
HP Pavilion Desktop. Vista (forget the model)
Westell 2200 Modem
Linksys WRT54G2 Router (i don't use wireless)
Also i Use a wired Xbox 360

Here is the thing though:
When my PC drops connection I am still able to get online and play with my friends on Xbox Live, So I don't think it is the Modem or Router, it has to be a cord or my computer or something.. Anyway I'm getting really tired of it because every time i want to use my PC I have to reset my router to restore the connection. Anything helps!

P.S. Everything is Wired at ALL times and it Still says its connected but i cant get online, And when i go into my Status it says 356 Million Bytes received, i don't know if that means anything.

I don't know where to post this now. I have no clue anymore what is wrong with this system. With the money I have wasted into this thing I could have bought a top of the line gaming rig by now. But now its too late to just pull out and leave this thing alone.

Anyways suddenly I am getting this problem(problem number 156?).

This is how it started: I updated my video card drivers to the latest ATI drivers 9.12. I started playing the game DIRT2 for a couple hours. I finally closed down DIRT2 and suddenly I was getting this problem: The PC would get a split second freeze every couple of seconds. Along with this split second freeze is coupled with this High Pitched Looping sound like when a program locks up and you get that looping sound until you can close out the program. This freeze up is basically noticable in the form of the mouse freeze up for a split second, then it moves again and then split second freeze again.

Ok, that is just the start of the problems. I am also suddenly having random issues with connecting to the internet via my wireless. Before this problem occured I was able to connect flawlessly. My wireless adapter will be displayed as "Connected" as always but I cannot open a web browser page. My windows live was still connected for 10 minutes one time while I was trying to figure why I can't connect to firefox. Then suddenly windows live crashed!

I thought that my problems were coming from the faulty hard drive that I jus... Read more

I have a Toshiba L70-B 12z.
Couple of months ago I did experience some problems while gaming (it did crash a lot).
I brought it by the shop who sent it back to toshiba to repair.
They replaced the motherboard because apparently 2 of the 4 cpu's where broken.

When I did get it back I found out my internal speakers weren't working anymore. So I sent it back ones more.
This time, the 2 internal speakers weren broken (how, I don't get) and also replaced. Mind you, it is a 1,5 year old notebook.

When I got it back this time, DTS sound was not functional anymore.
I get the error 'Failed to find apo endpoint'.
I did try to uninstall DTS en re?nstall, but when tries to re?nstall I would get the error 'This product does not support DTS-processing'.
I tried various DTS drivers (older and newest) without succes.

It's very frustrating, since before '**** started hitting the fan' everything worked perfectly fine. DTS sound was working perfectly, and I really liked the sound. I also tried a lot of internet solutions. Re?nstalling windows 10, going back to windows 8.1 (since my laptop originally came with windows 8.1), uninstall, re?nstall and updating sound drivers (from realtek), install the audio enhancement driver, updating BIOS via servicestation, all the recommended drivers for my laptop, all the windows updates. Nothing works.

I really don't know what I can do more for making DTS work again.
I hope someone here can help me.

Well, my wifes sony Vaio laptop just went kaput.
It was crashing while she was using large email files
and also doing some things on IE internet.
This started shortly after updating Adobe Acrobat.
Maybe the cause. We kept it working by turning some of the
services off, but now it says: \windows\system32\config\system
cannot be found.
And we can't even boot off our systen repair disc unless we choose
to erase everything off the C-drive. I have a hirens boot CD, but cant get it to boot
from that.
When we turn it on and press a key it beeps, and we get the choice
of F1 or F2.
F8 wont boot to safe mode either.
Is there any way to get this to boot in safe mode or from a disc so we
can repair or get some data off?

A:can't boot anymore

The CD-ROM needs to configured in the BIOS boot order to be first in the list. It may already be so in your machine since your recovery disk would have to boot that way.

If you can do that, you can try creating a bootable CD with the recovery console on it per my suggestion in post 6 here:

The beep when you startup and the prompt for f1 or f2 may indicate a misconfigured BIOS -- you might look for an option to reload the BIOS/Setup defaults there, and see if that particular problem is resolved. It is different from the missing or damaged "system" hive.

It started yesterday.

My Win. 7 occasionally froze. It was frustrating but I didn't think much of it.
Once, when it froze, I got frustrated and turned it off with the power button. It kept happening.

it was still happening, so i went into safe mode. I wasnt going to do anything, I just thought maybe going into safe mode and then restarting would help. i did, however, go to control panel --> system --> advanced system settings to adjust for best performance, because i thought it was a slow computer issue.

when i pressed 'advanced system settings', it said it wasnt found. huh. strange.
then i looked and saw that i couldnt open Windows Explorer either. I couldnt open ANY of my preinstalled windows programs (notepad, snipping tool, etc.)
this was in safe mode.

So I restarted and guess what, it was JUST LIKE IN SAFE MODE! before i went to safe mode it wasnt like that...
i have no internet connection either.

i cant do system restore because in safe mode it says there are disk errors and i should check but then it syas that it cant and it has to schedule for the next time i log on. so i log on (normally) but it never checks.

in normal mode i cant open system restore AT ALL.

also, in normal mode i can open cmd, but not as admin. says it wasnt found. so right now i cant do ANYTHING. I can, however, use the programs I installed (games, software...)

please help
this is urgent i dont know what to do

sorry for my english

"anymore" being the key word. I have Windows 2000. I used to be able to get into bios by hitting either the F2 or the F8 key; I don't remember which at the moment. Additionally, during boot-up or whatever it's called, there used to be a message on the screen instructing the user to hit F2 or F8 for bios, but that message is no longer there; or I can't see it if it is.

When I hit F8 now, all I get is a screen listing options such as Safe Mode, but no option for bios. When I hit F2, I get no result at all; the machine just continues to boot. I am both confounded and frustrated; confounded in that I used to be able to get into bios with no problem; frustrated because now for some reason I can't. And I need to. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a Dell PC, but it's out of warranty, so I can't ask Michael for help. Thanks.

Sorry if this was posted somewhere already - searched and couldn't find it. Good thing to be aware of - mostly for those have have not yet installed SP2

April 4, 2005 3:08PM

On April 12th, the tool that Microsoft provided to block updates will be deactivated and PCs around the world will begin downloading the 266-MB upgrade. Only seven percent of those questioned in the AssetMetrix survey had already installed the software.

Less than two weeks before Microsoft automatically rolls out XP Service Pack Two (SP2), fewer than a quarter of businesses have bothered to install it.
Of over 136,000 PCs in 251 corporations surveyed by asset management company AssetMetrix just 24 percent had installed SP2 and 40 percent of respondents had actively avoided upgrading.

On April 12th those companies who subscribe to Microsoft's Automatic Update service will be sent the upgrade, something Microsoft postponed to allow time for compatibility testing.

"Microsoft allowed a significant period of time to accommodate companies' demand to test and validate Windows XP SP2 within their IT infrastructure," said Steve O'Halloran, managing director of AssetMetrix Research Labs.

"Based on our research, a substantial number of companies have yet to decide whether to accept or embargo Windows XP SP2. In general, we recommend that companies deploy Service Pack 2, and we recommend proper testing and verificati... Read more

I had a problem a while back because of malware which meant I couldnt use any USB ports and my computer completely became redundant.

This problem meant I couldnt connect to the internet, and couldnt come to the Tech Support Forum for help, so a friend of mine had the idea to partition the C drive into C & E, E being the old problematic drive and C the new part.

This allowed me then to connect to the internet via the C drive so I coudl get to the HJT forum to get help, and as expected the forum helped me out.

Now I wont to clear that E drive away, leavingme with just the c drive, as I think Ive got everything I need from there now and placed on my now C drive.

Can somebody help me do this, and if there anything I can do with a scan to help you identify things first that isnt a problem at all.

Whilst getting help this time around, a professional in the HJT section mentioned I had a double boot system, this is new to me and just thought id mention it just in case it mattered.

Hi Lee !

Right-click my computer => manage => disk management. Expand the window and post a screenshot of it here. To post a screenshot press the print screen key, go to start => all programs => accessories => paint, click edit => paste, then save as .jpg. Attach the image file to your next post using the manage attachments button from the advanced mode.

Then open windows explorer, navigate to c:, go to tools => folder options => view. Check "show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "hide protected operating system files" and "hide extensions for known file types". Double-click the boot.ini file (or open it in notepad) and copy/paste its content here.

Before we proceed further be warned that it can be risky to merge 2 partitions (C and E) when one of them (C) holds the system. If something goes bad you can lose all the files that are on one or those partitions and you may even end up with a non-bootable computer. I would advise that you backup all your valuable data on CD's and make sure you have your install disk ready just in case.

Windows 7 ultimate x 64 , full retail , my system is about 3 years old , but my GX card is only 1 year.
If yoy need to know more plz tell me.

A:BSOD every day , cant take it anymore

These crashes were caused by memory corruption/exception (probably a driver).
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

* If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!

* If you have raid update its Driver.

*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Driver verifier

Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you... Read more

I've had terrible virus problems in the past two days, the worst I've ever had. It started with the Win 7 Security 2011 virus. I thought malwarebytes had cleaned that up. Then, I got the worst one I've ever had called Windows Recovery. I read that this one hides many of your programs, so I ran malwarebytes and hopefully got rid of it. But none of my icons were anywhere. I ran unhide.exe that I found on this site and some of them managed to come back. I did a full scan with malwarebytes after just to be sure everything was gone. I was told there was nothing left. But I'm still missing a good majority of my laptop. Most of my icons that were on my desktop before are no longer there, including recycle bin. Also, my search function in the start menu is bringing absolutely no results other than incredibly basic, preinstalled programs. I can't find almost anything, but when I try and reinstall, I'm told they still exist on my computer. Also, my windows explorer and windows media player do no work, and when clicked on where they used to be I get a notification claiming that they have been removed, renamed, etc. I honestly do not know what to do anymore. I would try and run Microsoft Security Essentials, but I cannot search for it or find the icon. When I try and reinstall it, I'm told it's already on my laptop. When I try to uninstall, it doesn't seem to work and stays at uninstalling for an extended period of time. I'm afraid most of my infor... Read more

I have a WD 160gb IDE HD. The computer originally came with a SATA drive, but that drive kicked the bucket, and I got a new drive. Previously, after the manufacturer's logo loading screen finished, a prompt would pop up saying that the disk wasn't found, and press f1 to continue, or press f2 for the setup utility. When I pressed f1, it loaded my disk fine.

This morning, I had to reinstall my OS. After installing many drivers, I had to restart to get the drivers to take effect. Suddenly, the disk would no longer load. The computer wont find the disk at all. I've checked all the wiring, and it all seems to be in place. After the manufacturers logo screen, a prompt comes up listing the types of drives (SATA, Primary, Secondary) and saying that they were not found. When I press f1 to continue, it tells me "No boot device available. Strike f1 to retry boot, f2 for setup utility." Under BIOS options, the drive is "unknown".

Does anyone know anything that I might try to get this device working again? Any help would be greatly appreciated, and a solution that solves my problem would make me get down on my knees and

Thanks in advance.

Hope someone can help - I have had this problem for a while now. I have saved a number of albums to the 'My Albums' folder (I have XP).
When I click on the folder all the album tabs come up, I then click on an individual album and it list the tracks - so far so good. The problem is that when I click on any of the tracks...nothing happens. For some reason all the tracks have the Musicmatch logo next to them, probably because I downloaded it at some stage.

If I go to Windows Media Player all my albums are listed there and play - also if I right click a track listed in 'My Album' folder (ie the Music Match ones) and select 'Open with Windows Media Player' it is OK.

The problem I have is that apart from the inconvenience of going back and forward to different folders - I am now using a program that can place background music when burning digital photographs - the software has a browse button and I have the same problem ie when I browse to 'My Album' folder nothing plays. Is there a way I can get all the tracks that I have in 'My Album' folder to use WMA as the default player, and get rid of the Music Match system.

Any help would be appreciated.

I just built a new computer about 2 months ago or so. It has run fine up until this point, It started with BSOD's but reinstalling windows fixed that and I have had 0 problems since.

This morning I turned on my computer, and all it showed was a black screen. no intiial beep before loading windows like it usually does. I restart the computer and this time i get the beep, but it just sits on the menu where it shows the stats of my computer hardware (also the menu where I enter bios). It freezes at this point and theres nothing I can do, I try entering bios, nothing. Restart computer, exact same problem. I gave it an hour or so and went back, and now i'm at the origional problem. I turn it on and it just sits there, without loading video, without beeping, and without the possibilty to get into bios.

It was running perfectly fine the night before, I didnt install anything new, or mess with any hardware. Any ideas?

Somehow my USB external hard drive had fried either at that moment, or somehow magically last night. Excited i plugged in the monitor, windows was loading. after i plugged everything in I see the error "Windows was unable to recognize USB device" I restart my computer and it freezes on BIOS. Unplug the external HD, unfrozen. Going to leave the post up for anyone that just happens to come across a similar problem, but for me...issue solved.

Ok, so I'm trying to help a relative fix their computer. Problem is it's been nearly a decade since I've stepped e-foot on the internet. So heres the low-down. The computer in question runs remarkably slow, my old C64 has become a superior system. Opening programs takes forever, starting the computer takes forever. And apparently, theres a lot more nasty stuff out there to contend with. The user in question also frequents a website called pogo. Which to my understanding is most likely the cause of everything. All I've done is made sure that no extra programs are running at startup, and downloaded HiJackThis. To which I've included a log. If it was my computer, I'd just go along and delete everything that looks harmful and hope for the best. But since it's not my computer I gotta be careful. Figure I'd let someone who knows what their doing help me. Any and all help will be utmost appreciated.

The past few days my PC has been infected (either by an obvious fake mail I opened by mistake or by some random website I visited) and since then everytime I start firefox the browser works slow especially in google. Sometimes a website is opened with a fake scanner telling me its scanning for threats, other times I get redirected to other websites (who won't display any content once they've loaded) when I click on websites that I usually visit daily through google search.

Since then I've installed Ad-Aware, Superantispyware, MalwareByes Anti-Malware and scanned with all three and each one found various trojans which they quarantined and which I removed. I also searched with Nod32 and it found nothing at all.

I did some more research on my problem and found out that I might be infected with Vundo but this is just a wild guess. However I did a search with Spybot - Search & Destroy and it did find a Vurtomondo (or if it was called something else..I read that its like Vundo) and removed it and rebooted my PC but none of this worked.

All programs have the latest updates but none of these were done in safemode. I downloaded a program called VundoFix and it found one threat (when I used it in safe mode) and rebooted the PC but the problem didn't get solved.

One common problem to Vundo infection was a security hole in Java-related applications so I uninstalled these and reinstalled them but the problem is still there. I cleaned my registry as well to see if ... Read more

I did a google search and ended up checking my registry.

The first thing I noticed was this entry = see "registry editor snap1.txt"

Then i copied and pasted the text file name (see "registry editor snap1.txt" into "Google" and got no results.

Then clicked on that 1st entry in with all the weird symbols and got this = (see registry unknown file.pdf).

Then clicked .

It appears I need to change my registry and delete this funky file in the editor (mentioned earlier).

A:c.d.'s do not load anymore....

Hi paulvangelder

. . . and Welcome to the Tech Support Forums.

Several things to check:
(You've already taken a good first step: you already checked on the "Autorun" setting for your drive)
1) If you can, borrow another CD (or DVD) drive (an external is a quick troubleshooter for this sort of thing). If everything suddenly works just fine with a different drive, it's possible that the drive had become faulty. (Could be something as simple as the lens needing cleaning, or the unit could be failing).
2) If the problem just recently started (and trying a different CD-drive doesn't help), try a System Restore, using a restore point from when the CDs were playing OK.
3) If neither of these work - make sure it's not malware corrupting system files (scan in both Safe Mode and Normal, and use as thorough settings as possible. If you find an infection, try the 5-Step Security Checklist here at TSF
4) If the system scans clean, try uninstalling Windows Media Player.
5) Run a Registry Cleaner (I recommend CCleaner
6) Disable any "Download Manager" software you might have, and download a fresh copy of Windows Media Player (you can do this in Windows Update -- which is a good idea anyway, since you should also check for Security Updates while you're there).
7) Install Windows Media Player & test to see if it plays CDs OK now. Then ... Read more

I have tried a few things like removing the device from windows, and letting windows reinstall it, and trying to force it to use othe drivers but nothing works.

The weird part is that the DVD rom will read CD's when it is attached to another computer just not when on its home PC.

I am running Win XP, I have scanned the computer with antivirus, and ehareware removal apps, and I even ran the Sony rootkit removal tool just in case, and I still have this issue. oh and one last thing I have a DVD burner in the same computer that can read CD's.

Hello, I think I'll start off by saying I'm new here and I'm a complete idiot when it comes to computers so sorry if this is both a simple/obvious fix and in the wrong part of the forum.

Okay so, a while back my laptop, a two year old Sony Vaio with Windows 7, started just popping off. Like, the screen would turn black accompanied by a "pop" noise and turn itself off. I could easily turn it back on and a screen saying "Windows did not shut down correctly" would appear along with the options to start up normally, in safe mode, etc. And then I'd notice the laptop would be really hot, so I assumed it was just overheating.

I figured I'd clean the fans then buy myself a cooling pad to help me in the long run of things. The pad has helped, haven't had it pop off since I bought it a week ago, until now. I didnt have the pad plugged in as I just wanted to check my emails before work, but before my computer could even connect to the wifi (which has been taking longer than normal) it popped off, barely enough time for it to even get hot as it was only on for a minute. I waited a bit, put the pad on and started to go about my business when 30 minutes later, even with the pad on, it popped off again.

Now, is my computer overheating or is this some other problem entirely? Sometimes my battery doesn't take the charge when I have it plugged into the charger, I have to fiddle with the plug to get it to take. Could it be a problem with... Read more

A:Not sure what's wrong anymore

Hey zwolfoi,
The popping sound most like as a power issue most commonly when there's a pop there's a a short, To eliminate the battery first turn off your pc, unplug the power cord, disconnect the battery and click the power on button to release any electricity, re plug the power cord and do not connect the battery, turn on the pc and use it as normal, if the issue keeps occurring which it probably will, it is not the battery, next step, take it to a pc technician or to a technically savvy electrician and let him see whats what.

Hope this helps.
Best of luck

A:Cant Multitask anymore

I used to be able to have world of warcraft run in the background as i played call of duty

Now thats a multitasking computer....

Did you reinstall the right version of Windows? 32-bit or 64-bit

Also, does it give an error or the other program just doesn't open?

Third, is it just for these two games (little bit harder for a computer to run two games...) or with any program (your internet browser and let's say Microsoft word or something...)

I have 3 computers networked through an SMC Barricade router which is in turn hooked to a cable modem. (The router assigns each one a unique IP add. using DHCP) All three can access the Internet with no problem. the last time I tried to view the shared folders, all of a sudden none of the computers can see any of the others, Two are running Win XP home SP2. One of them must use Win 98 because it wouldn't take XP. I have installed Trend Micro Internet security an them, but have it configured for home local area network. On two of them I'm running Trojan Hunter. They all have spyware blaster running in the background. I don't know when the blindness problem occurred because I haven't tried to go to My network places since August. Everything was OK then. I have made sure all three are in the same workgroup.

A:can't see other computers anymore

The basics for troubleshooting are:

1. Make sure you have the same IP scheme (e.g. 192.168.0.x).

2. Make sure you have the same Subnet Mask, Gateway, and DNS IP addresses.

3. Make sure you can ping the other computer's IP address. If this fails, just for testing, make sure you turn off XP's as well as any other firewall.

4. Make sure you can ping the other computers by name.

5. Make sure you have the same workgroup name (watch for trailing spaces)

6. For troubleshooting purposes, turn off XP's and completely uninstall any other firewall software. You can always add more complexity after you get it working.

7. With XP, make sure you have the same username and password as the person logging onto the other computers. The default setting for XP Pro is to require a password for network access.

8. More details about how to network XP can be found at:

9. More details about how to troubleshoot TCP/IP networks can be found at:

There continues to be a lot of misinformation about needing NetBEUI or to changing the NetBIOS setting. You can ignore both. Installing NetBEUI to solve a networking problem will just mask a some underlying and potentially important misconfiguration with TCP/IP. The default NetBIOS setting works fine so there is no need to change that either.

You might try starting the computer in 'Safe Mode' by gently, continously tapping the F8 key while it is booting.. when the black screen with white writing comes up use the arrow keys to move to 'Last Known Good Configuration' option, click the enter key and let the computer do it's thing. After a while time, and now I can't run FFSJ: The Fastest File Splitter and Joiner on my Win7 anymore.

Also, It doesn't display on Shell Context Menu too.

I tried to Open With the program and joint but my system doesn't recognize all kind of *.001 ; *__a files. Then I reinstalled that software but it doesn't make sense.

Now I don't know what I need to do to join these files and play in.

P/s: I also downloaded HJSplit ( similar software ) but it seem like my problem.

Can anyone help me fix this problem, please ?!?

A:Can't join *.001 anymore

If they are just a series of compressed archives, extremely popular with torrenting, WinRAR(which I see you have installed), or 7zip should also be able to extract the content back into its original state. Looking at the image you posted, I'd venture a guess that the archive was actually created with 7zip in the first place, judging by the portion of the file name that I can see.
*side note: generally upon creation these files are named in successive order so I'd be curious why you only have one file with a .003 ext which appears to be all alone without its .001 and .002 buddies.

Hi all ,just wondering if the reason i cant reinstall my W7 64bit HP from my USB is because i had deleted the 100mb partition??
Which contains boot files and other needed files(i think)

i tried three attempts but all failed
finally i did a clean install from the dvd and it worked

The fail said
Failure to find system partition???

And if so ,why didnt a clean install make another 100mb partition when i reinstalled it??

A:Cant reinstall from USB anymore??

I just recently did a clean install of Home Premium x64. I deleted the 100 mb hidden partition and my windows 7 system partition C, while leaving my second data partition D alone. Windows 7 rebuilt the 100 mb hidden partition all on its own along with the primary C partition. I initially told it to use all of the unallocated space and it prompted me that it might have to create the 100 mb hidden system partition, and it did create it. My disk structure is exactly the way it was before I started.

EDIT: I did the above install from a USB thumb drive and deleted the above mentioned partitions during the install process. I've also done USB thumb drive installs to a new empty hard drive without problems. I've done it partitioning the drive, and just leaving it whole, and the 100 mb hidden partition was created each time. I don't know what happened in your case, something must have glitched during your install.

Same problem with an inspiron coincidentally.

The firewall (kerio) shows info going in and out.

Both firefox and expl give page not found.

The only time I saw this was when my firewall was blocking communication.

I turned off kerio, and even uninstalled, and even know that sometimes registry stuff from firewalls still linger. Had that problem with Norton in the past.

I can't get anything on the net when I'm off line though.

Any other troubleshooting ideas for an offline laptop?

I can't ping either. When I do the ipconfig, it flashes for a sec and disappears.

and I'm using 2k, so no sys restore.

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

Okay, so here's the deal. This afternoon, I started doing backups, because i was going to reformat, as well as switch from Vista back to XP. It was taking a while (I have lots of games) so I switched the ethernet cable that was going in the modem from the one that goes into computer 1 (mine) to the one from computer 2, so my dad could use the internet. When I was done, I plugged mine back in, but the internet wasn't working. Oh well, I thought, maybe it'll work when I reformat.

Blablabla, I reformat and install XP. But now the internet still won't work. I've tried with two different cables, plus the one that computer 2 uses. When the modem is connected to my computer, the lights for "Power" and "DSL" come on, but not "Ethernet" and a flashing "Activity", like it does when it's connected to the 2nd computer. I'm pretty sure this means it's just not connected to the computer (#1)... Except it is.

Since it's not something with the cables, and the modem works fine for the 2nd computer, what exactly could be the problem? I have a new motherboard. I got it like a week or two ago. Plus it was working even today.

Thanks in advance

Is there any way that I can get it back by doing something on the computer or I have to get a new one off a website ?

The decoder must have come with HP DVD Play, so reinstall that if you can. If not you can get VLC media player which is free and comes with a dvd decoder.

So I had some problems with AVG antivirus, when booting my pc got stuck on booting the avg processes, so I removed them, then it got stuck on some other processes (like fvevol.sys or so) so I removed them too. After removing all processes that got stuck when booting, I couldn't boot at all! Every time I booted it automatically came in the boot manager, saying it couldn't restore my pc. :(

How can I fix this? Please note that there's nothing wrong with my HDD, it's about one week old, all new. I also did not actually remove the processes, I transfered them to an USB stick.

Hi everyone

I need some serious help here

The story is a little long
3 weeks ago, I had my computer working, and suddenly, it stopped booting windows, not even the logo show on screen, also no error code or anything. I couldn't enter diagnostic or safe mode (just bios). I had to format and reinstall windows 8 because any restore options worked.

Then a week ago, again it stopped booting, no error code, no anything, but this time, it bothered me that just 2 weeks before happened the same, so I started checking everything, so I took my Hard Drive, and put it in another computer, and it worked with no problem, windows booted, just not in my computer.

I started to look for solutions, and one was to use the command bootrec /scanos, and i got suprised that no windows installation was found. Eventually I had to speak with Microsoft tech, and they said it was my components because they were old, and they actually are (8 years), but I wasn't convinced that was it.

Before getting Windows 8 Pro, I had installed Windows 8 release preview, and it worked for months with no problem.

I thought that of course the fulll version would be heavier for my pc, so I installed Windows 7 again (had it installed for years before w8 release preview).

And now the bad part

after a couple of hours having the W7 installed, it won't boot either.

The same symptoms from W8, windows won't boot, not even the logo shows, although, with a little difference, now it shows a "Missing ... Read more

A:Can't watch DVD's anymore

Assorted googles -

Remove the DVD from the DVD drive and then reinsert it. This will force the copy protection software to reset.

While the DVD is out of the drive, make sure that your DVD is clean. If your DVD is scratched or dirty, the DVD drive may not be able to read it correctly, and you might receive this error.

If you have another DVD player program installed on your computer, play the DVD by using that program, and then try playing the DVD in Windows Media Player again.

There was a problem configuring your video card. Restart your computer, and then try again.

Hi! When I got my new ZBook few days ago it had Win7, some drivers and a lot of HP bloatware preinstalled. It also featured extremely loud speakers. After lots of updated drivers from HP Support Assistant the max noise level drastically decreased. I checked everywhere (right click on sound->playback, mixer) and everything is on 100%. I also tried disabling sound enhancements and it had no effect what so ever (which is strange since it features B&O sound enhancements). Now my comp is running Win10 and some more updated drivers and it's still the same. So please help me get the amazing speakers performance back. Best regards.

I got a big problem:
About two weeks ago I plugged my formerly external HDD into my PC to get faster connection and to use it as a normal drive.
It worked just fine, until 2 days ago it suddenly wasn't recognised by WinXP anymore. When I try to access it (it's still shown, but not under it's designated name) Win tells me that it's not formatted and asks if I want to do this now.
Well, I ran several anti-virus programs, deleted all spy- and adware, run the manufaturers diagnostic tool (it found some damaged sectors, which could be repaired) which didn't help one bit. It's a WDC HDD 160GB and, of course, warranty expired about two months ago!!! So please help me, any serious suggestion will do. I need the data on it, especially the 10 GB of personal photos of which I don't have a back-up.
So any suggestions how to get the files? If I can save the drive, that would be nice, but the files are more important!!!
Thanks everyone,

Building my own computer is starting to seem like a worse and worse idea. Problems are increasing almost exponentially.

First, specs:

~HD 4870X2
~Core i7 920
~3x2 gigs GSKILL DDR3 (1066 I -think-)
~MSI X58 Eclipse
~PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750W (Black, Quad, I forget the order)
~Vista Home Premium 64 bit

So here's the list of stuff wrong:

~BSOD - ntfs.sys
~Pretty mucha any game that stresses the system will crash, did not resolve with a driver reinstallation
~Playing anything with Windows Media Player messed up the monitors colors/turned everything gray. This was fixed
~Sometimes playing a game won't cause it to crash, but the screen will go black. The system's still running/on, there's just no video input
~The GPU is running hotter than it used to - 78C at 70% fan
~Firefox likes to crash a lot, but that could be unrelated

Is tehre ANY chance this is just a centralized problem? None of this was an issue in the past; everything just sort of popped up.

A:So many problems I don't even know what it is anymore

hi for the ntfs i would try sfc /scnw
for the memory try downloading memtest86+ iso file and burn to a cd use imgburn then put in your drive and reboot and run for a min of 4 hours more would be better.

I don't have this issue on my Desktop, but on my newly created Windows To Go drive.

I got this working today, and I pinned some items to the Start Screen. I want to pin items to the Taskbar, like Task Manager, but Windows isn't allowing ANY pinning to the Taskbar. I wonder if it's trying to kill use of the Desktop.
I've tried dragging things down, using the Start Screen commands, and even the right click context menu in Explorer, nothing.

BAH! Any suggestions?

A:I can't seem to pin anything to the Taskbar anymore.

I'm getting the same thing. My Windows 8 Release Preview running in a VM allows pin to taskbar but the "Windows To Go" installation does not. I hope this is not by design. Pinning applications to the Taskbar may be the 1 thing that makes this new OS usable.
