SATA port numbers vs assignemnt of Disk numbers/

Q: SATA port numbers vs assignemnt of Disk numbers/

I have three SATA hard drives :
Main system/boot drive , WD Caviar Black 1 TB, connected to the SATA 0 port
A backup drive, identical WD Caviar Black 1 TB, connected to the SATA 1 port
Another dirve, Hitachi 1 TB, connected to the SATA 2 port
When I installed Win 7, only the main drive was connected... and it remains the only drive with active/system/boot partitions.

QUESTION 1.
All three drives reporr correctly in the BIOS, and in the right order, but why is it that only one of the drive (the one on SATA port 1) has a "SATA:" prefix and the others have a "HDD:" prefix ?

QUESTION 2,
Why is it that the assignment of Disk #0, 1, 2 ( as seen in Disk Maanger or DiskPart) does not seem to have nay rhyme or reason?

I would have expected:

- the hardrive connected to SATA port O, to be assigned as Disk 0
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 1, to be assigned as Disk 1
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 2, to be assigned as Disk 2

but instead, I have:

- the hardrive connected to SATA port 2, is assigned as Disk 0
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 0, is assigned as Disk 1
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 1, is assigned as Disk 2

Just curious why that is.

I am assuming there is no way to chagne this. Its not something I would dream of reinstalling Windows 7 to correct ( even if it did correct it).

A: SATA port numbers vs assignemnt of Disk numbers/

Best advice, leave it alone. It may bother your (and others) sense of order but it won't affect how anything works, and no re-installing Windows won't change it.

This was asked before by KlausdB:

"I have 4 x HDDs on SATA AHCI (Intel Controller) in Native Mode and 1 x ESATA on Win 7 Pro X64.
I noted that looking in Admin. Tools\Computer Management\Storage (as an example) the 1st HDD (Port 0 in the AHCI BIOS) is showing as "Disk 2" instead of my expectation of

"Disk 1".
Selecting the Drive's Properties correctly shows the "Location 0 (Channel 0, Target 0, Lun 0)".
I also note that the Disk Number allocation in Windows will change randomly after some reboots/startups - going anywhere from "Disk 1" to "Disk 4".  I can force/replicate this

behaviour by removing the ESATA drive.
Is this expected behaviour?
It doesn't appear to create any operating issues at this stage, however, is there a way I can force the Drive to always map to (eg) Device 0 --> Disk 1, Device 1 --> Disk 2,

etc?
Thanks."

This was answered by Nicholas Li:

"As far as I know, how the disk is plugged physically and the order it is displayed are not related. For a simple example, if a drive is plugged to SATA interface 4 and it is the only disk, it will be displayed as Disk 0. If there is no related issue about
the disk order, I think we can safely ignore this."

Hey everybody.

I don't know if the title is a good one for this problem, but here goes.

I have a column that has numbers in this format: 54321-1234

Now, I want to take off the last 4 numbers, and the dash, from all the numbers in the column, using a formula. So that the output would be: 54321.

I want it so the first 5 numbers stay the same, but the dash and last 4 are gone. Is this possible?

Thanks.

I have Windows XP, with Wordpad v5.1 and Notepad v5.1 as well. In Notepad, if I toggle off Word Wrap, I can then toggle on the Status Bar, and it shows me the line and column number in the status bar. It does not look like Wordpad has the ability to show line and column numbers. Does anyone know if there is a way to show that in Wordpad? Thanks.

I was checking my program and software list and at the top of the list I noticed two (2) sets of numbers that I have never seen before. I checked the internet to see if I could find out what they were. It kept taking me to sites for spyware, adware, etc. I could not find out what they were or why they are on my system. I do not want to remove them until I know what they are. I have not noticed any problems with my system, but I do not know what might be going on behind the sceen. The numbers are listed as follows:

I have some old hardware with an RS232 (9 pin) connection to my notebook. I have downloaded a driver for the Serial to USB converter, and my Vista Enterprise OS seems happy with it. However, the hardware only allows communication with COM ports 1 to 4, and as far as I can judge my USB ports are 8, 9 and 10. Can I renumber these ports to make communication possible, or is there another way of doing this?

What is the driver you downloaded?

XP has a habit of remembering which com port numbers have been used before to other devices in the past. This leads to funny situations where com port numbers that are allocated to a new device seem to be high in number (sometimes greater than 20, very often greater than 10).

Is there a registry fix to force the operating system to cancel port numbers where devices are no longer detected, thus enabling new allocations to be in a sensible range of numbers

thanks for any help

Hi folks,

My Windows 7 desk cant connect to my websites plesk login page. There are a couple different port numbers I can use to get to the page but none work:
http://www.mysites.com:8880
https://www.mysites.com:8443
I tried in Firefox, Chrome and IE, all have the same problem:
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at mysites.com:8443.

I have no problem getting to http://www.mysites.com. The site is up.

Then I tried using my netbook which runs XP and connects from my network, and I can get to http://www.mysites.com:8880 without a problem. So that makes me think its not my ISP or my router, the problem lies with my desktop.

I turned off the Windows firewall, Antispyware and AVG and am trying to run as minimal programs are possible but still cannot connect to webpages with non standard ports.

Does anyone have suggestions to what might be causing the problem?

Thanks,

Kris

Hi,
I have some reference books I use and in all of them I have this problem:

The number written on the document pages doesn't match the number my pdf reader says, and for every document it has a different offset. That is, for example when I go to page 16, then on the page itself it's written that it's page 5 and not 16.

It's an annoying problem.
Is there any way to fix this by changing the pdf numbering or is there any workaround?

Thanks

After adding two new SATA hard drives in my computer, I noticed that Disk Management lists SATA Drive C (which contains Win 7) as Disk 2. The other two drives are listed as Disk 0 and Disk 1.

Since I connected SATA Drive C in SATA port 1, I was expecting to see it listed as Disk 0. SATA drives D and E are connected to SATA port 2 and 3 but are listed before the one connected in SATA port 1. Weird!

And since the computer seems to work fine, I'm wondering if the disk numbers listed in Disk Management matter at all? Please let me know if this is normal or if I should change something.

Thanks!

A:Disk numbers in Disk Management matters?

I had the same issue, physically by connecting sata cables disk 1 for XP, disk 2 for Data and disk 3 for Win 7. When initially booting into XP system and going to computer/properties/manage/disk mgr, it showed XP on 0, data on 1 and Win7 on 2. Booting into Win7 and doing the same, the disks were listed as the same, i.e. XP = Win7 = actual physical cable layout. However, on a number of occassions booting into Win7, the drives can be in any order. Machine works and boots OK, guess they are using virtual drives. BTW W7 seems a million times faster than XP Mike

A:add more hard disk or change it from letters to numbers

It is not possible to have more than 26 mounted drives. If access to more filesystems than this is required, Volume Mount Points must be used. However, it is possible to mount non-letter drives, such as 1:, 2:, or !: using the command line subst utility in Windows XP or Vista (i.e. "subst 1: c:\temp"), but this is not officially supported and may break programs that assume that all drive letters are A-Z.

It's 204 pin, but you need to know more than that.

That's a Lenovoe Ideapad Y550. I entered that make and model into the configurator at Crucial.com and it came back with the following compatible RAM choices for that laptop.

3 of those choices are for 2 GB sticks.

You can shop for those same Crucial part numbers from your source or buy 204 pin RAM from another brand as long as it has the exact same specifications.

A+ Certification for Dummies describes the Pentium processor as having a 32-bit address bus, 32 bit registers, and a 64 bit data bus. 7 pages later, it describes the Itanium as Intels first 64-bit processor. I checked with an IT associate of mine, and he said the processors size refers to the address bus. PC Guide says it refers to the register size within the CPU. The article went on to say every processor introduced in the last decade, from the earliest 386SX to the latest Pentium II or K6, is a 32 bit processor, based on this definition. I know Im ignorant, but Im trying to understand. There are dozens of numbers on a cpu datasheet. Which one are they talking about when they say Its a 32 bit processor?

Using Windows 98 with Microsoft Internet Keyboard. All current upgrades installed. Pentium III processor. MS Optical Intellimouse.

Everything works fine except the number pad on the right side of the keyboard. NumLock is on but nothing transmits to programs when a key is depressed. With numlock off, keypad functions work normally as arrow keys. Numbers keys at top of board work okay too.

Tried upgrading with latest MS drivers for both keyboard and mouse and pouring over startup BIOS options but no joy - same ole, same ole.

Any suggestions?

Hello
I am pretty new to web creation. I am using FrontPage2000
I am checking my efforts with web tools (currently checking at http://www.echoecho.com/toolhtmlinspector.htm)

Question
How do I determine the line number in the HTML page?
(I tired counting, but that didn't seem to do the trick - I tried to copy & paste to Word & number the lines - nope)
I saw a post by 'HexStar' and she had an image listing line numbers - would love to know who to have that kind of view

I am trying to fix some syntax errors and the reports indicate examples such as -
line 27 Error: empty container element <P>.
line 77 Error: illegal context for <INPUT> - must appear in <FORM> element.
I am not worried about the errors at this point, just how to identify the line number (I want to 'try-fail-try again' to learn how to correct the errors myself)

Thank you

Hey !

Just installed my Samsung 850 Pro 512GB so I really wanted to test it out. Installed Samsung Magician and Crystal Mark to bench the drive.

This is the first test run :

Not bad at all, pretty little numbers Then I went in Samsung magician and I optimized the drive.

- Rapid mode

Now.... Look at these numbers, this can't be right at all. You think maybe it's doing the test on the Windows virtual memory ??

Thanks !

Yes, when you set up rapid mode, it tests the ram disk and not the SSD itself. Those are about the expected numbers.

Hi, I am trying to make a comparison against a set of data and rank them accordingly. The data can comprise up to 150 rows.

I compare data in column 1, get the ranking from there and if there is a tie for certain rows, I compare data on column 2 only for the rows that are tied. This is repeated until there is no more tied data or until all the columns have been exhausted.

I have attached the sample data and also the expected answer for easy reference. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help with this.

A:Ranking a set of numbers

You didn't said about the order of the ranking should it be upward or downward?
Also I'm not sure I understood the process, cause the way I understood it, the ranking should be a little bit different?

hi

I have a form where two languages be entered at the same time, I have got the words and text entered in english and arabic , but when it comes to numbers and dates , it just stays as english . I tried through the control panel and change the neccassary but still the numbers stays english. If I completely in the control panel changed to arabic, all the english date and numbers are in arabic.

Is there a way that when pressing the ALT SHIFT the numerical also change to arabic ( text is fine in arabic ).

A:Arabic numbers

First, what program are you using?

it happens when you dont have an arabic font installed and selected as your text style. For example, if your default font is Times and you switch to arabic keyboard, it will let you type arabic but won't type the arabic numerals.

if you are typing in word, try to change over to an arabic font (not Adobe Arabic).

P.S. you will be able to type english numbers when you switch the keyboard to english and your font is an arabic font.

hi,

I got a question to be solved. Does anyone know how to write the code to increment the product number and pass it on to the next page, to be added to the database, so the user doesn't have to type it in? Basically, i want to take the last product number from the product page, increment it to the next number (the product number or any id's has to be hidden on the product page), so if the last number in the db is 0012 i want the next number to be 0013, pass it to the addprod page and show it on the form and then have it stored in the db with that particular product - so every product has a unique product number.
any help would be great

A:ASP - incrementing numbers

I don't know if i understand your question (sorry for being stupid). The way i see it is that you want to let your users to add products (insert records) to your database with unique ID numbers, is this right?

If it is, its a simple operation, especially if your using MM Ultradev.

What are you writing the script in, ASP, Coldfusion, PHP, etc.? And what database are you using, Access, SQL?

I am going to skip the story behind this deal and ask how to get through to Windows and explain my delima. I tried to activate XP PRO after a complete transfer from one disk to an oem disk with XP Home. I was told that my numbers where bad after trying to activate, and that was it. I was not transferred or given a chance to talk to a real person, just contact vendor to whom sold me the disc. I had never had a problem in the past using this product. I have had the disc for over a year now with no problems. It has been installed several different times on several different computers. I had bought the disc along with the sp2 update install disc. It was selling as Windows XP PRO with SP2, Anyway, I do not expect help in a matter concerning bootleg products, but would just like to know a number I can use to get hold of Windows support personal and find out what the deal is. I can understand to many installs, but with that you can at least try and get new numbers and or talk to someone.
Donk

A:[SOLVED] bad numbers

Donk here again, It sounds as though I may be screwed. I Googled activation and found a site that has explained what the deal might just be. I new the disc had unlimited installs which meant an OEM install disc. Like I said, all had been good for a little over a year maybe two not sure, but they have now put into place a program that limits OEM install disc's. I just happen to have been sold said product. I had also noticed that after trying to return to said site it no longer offers my product, or any product dealing XP, Office, or Vista. I guess when you buy a product for a price that seems to good to be true well... it is. Buyer beware. It's called greed, I wanted something for nothing, and I got nothing.

With regards to your question, the "800" refers to the clock speed of the ram (in MHz). As long as your motherboard is compatible with it then i think you'll be ok.

What gives? We have a wireless Linksys system with a G router and G wireless card in the computer having problems. A month or so ago we kept losing the connection and LinkSys recommended putting in the DSN numbers for the connection. They thought that some of the security and spyware protection programs might be interfering with the automatic detection settings. We did that and it seemed to work ok for a while. Now

Your keypad is activated. Look on your keyboard for the Fn key, then on your keyboard for a symbol that looks like a "number keypad". It is normally the Fn + F11 key, but without looking up the information on your system it may differ. To activate and deactivate, you have to hold the Fn key and press the key that has the number pad on symbol on it.

Came home today and computer wouldn't type numbers. Num lock was on but turning off didn't help.

Kid had been playing games today.

Searched online and microsoft support had this recommendation for XP:

Turn off the MouseKeys accessibility feature. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type access.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Click the Mouse tab, and then click to clear the Use MouseKeys check box.
3. Click OK.

I followed those instructions, rebooted and now i can type the numbers 5 and 6 but not seven or any other numbers. I do type a domain containing 5 and 6 from time to time and it will be in my cache so maybe that's why i can type these numbers only.

Any advice on how to cure this?

Thanks

Hello Sammy,

If you still have your Vista Home Basic installed and activated with your key number, then you can use the program below to retrieve it from within Vista.

Product Key Number

If you have a OEM (store bought) computer then the key number will be on a sticker on the bottom (laptop) or back (desktop case) of the computer.

Asking for a product key number is not allowed since this is advocating piracy. It will get you permanently banned, so do not ask for one again.
