Cannot remove iCloud from Control Panel

Q: Cannot remove iCloud from Control Panel

Hello. I recently uninstalled iCloud from my computer, but there still is an icon in Control Panel. Any thoughts on how to remove it?

A: Cannot remove iCloud from Control Panel

Hi,
You could probably start by knowing for a fact that iCloud is located in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Internet Services\".

Another way could be reinstalling iCloud and then uninstalling it again.

Hello, after inserting a pendrive I've contaminated my personal computer with a virus that: 1) Transform all files and folder of the pendrive in hiden and create shortcuts2) Remove the Control Panel itens3) Blocks my access to all my files/programs/folders (system says that I've no permission to use/work in all the folder and all the programs)4) It's a JS type os virus because there are JS stuff in the Start menu item.5) The virus also deactivates Avira completely. The program starts but when I click it's icon it just closes. Also avira did detect the virus in the pendrive but it was too late. After a lot of work following instructions here I believe I've succesffuly cleaned my system, but I would like to confirm. I use Windows XP. I have two problems using the Add/Remove function in my Control Panel: specifically I want to remove a program called "Creative Zen V Series (R2). The prompt after attempting to remove comes back with "The specific module could not be found" and leaves the program showing. I need to get rid of this entry.

Secondly I want to remove "Calendar Creator 9" and when this is selected to remove, I get a prompt that says "To install the program it must first be removed using the Control Panel function Add/Remove. This is frustrating as that is exactly what I'm trying to do, NOT INSTALL the program again.

Could use some help with this. Remaining programs can be removed easily using the add/remove function.

Uninstall Both the Programs Manually

To remove the invalid/orphaned entries from the Add/Remove applet manually [Windows 2000/XP]

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
2. Locate the following key in the registry:
3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
4. Make sure you backup the keys by exporting them to a .reg file.
5. Look for the name of the program with the orphaned entry.
6. Delete the entire listing for the software with the orphaned entry.
7. Close the registry editor.
8. Restart your computer.

OK .. a the Add/Remove Control Panel will NOT inititate. This is happening on a friend's computer. The problem he sent was originally asking about Norton giving the error on missing file: "missing file: c\winnt\system32\mapisrvr.exe." . I've found all the comments on WinDoctor problems and the like. But what I have not found out is WHY the error with the Add/Remove Control Panel.

I've never had or seen this problem: and I work with a lot of WIN2000 installations.

Anyone out there able to point me in the direction of a 'cure' ???

Thanks ...

I have had this problem on 2 Win2K computers now. It is caused somehow by USB installations. The latest was installing a HP 3570C USB scanner. The scanner software did not work properly after install, and when I went to the control panel (add/remove) [appwiz.cpl] the program has a large blank area where usually the programs show. (The message is "there are no programs installed on this computer") However, I can scroll down and see the programs listed, but if I click on any entry I get ""mshta.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. An error log is being created"

When I go to event viewer I get, "The application, mshta.exe, generated an application error. ...The exceprion generated was c0000005 at address 75B5EB55 (DllGetClassObject)"

Anybody see this before, Ideas?

All help greatly appreciated.

I inadvertently tried to install TweakUI from XP and have since uninstalled it, but the icon still remains in Control Panel. Where in the registry can I delete this please???
(I have Windows Ultimate, 32bit)

A:Remove an icon from Control Panel

Hello Archdeacon, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You can look in the registry at the location below.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace

Once there, look at each long number CLSID key in the left pane under NameSpace until you see the same TweakUI entry that displays in the Control Panel in the right pane for (Default). If you spot it, then you can just right click on and delete the long number CLSID key for it.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Is there another Software program that could remove the icon from the Add/Remove section, because Add/Remove isn't letting me remove it.

Hello everyone

I recently had to have my computer reformatted.
Windows XP Service pack 2.
For some reason known only to himsmelf my computer man installed

But can't bear to change it now.

When I look in the add/remove window I find that some of the programs I reinstalled by disc are not showing.
Also, windows updates, even though I have ticked show updates.
is this something I should worry about?
Many thanks

A:(Resolved) Add/remove In Control Panel

Hi Anne,
This usually occurs if the name in the Registry is more than 60 characters long. Once Windows encounters a name longer than 60 characters no more entries are shown. This should only be a problem if you want to remove the program at a later date. If it causes any problems you can change the registry entry. If you feel confident about editing the registry, I'll give you step by step instructions how to do it.
Regards,
Pilot.

I'm on a friends computer and while getting rid of some unwanted software and spyware I noticed there is something in the Add or Remove Program list that's very bizzare. The list has 4 programs starting with the letter A. If I click below that, the area below it Highlights. I scroll down what seems to be about 8 feet (8 pages worth) of highlighted area then the list of programs continues. If I click sort by date, the area changes so it has nothing to do with the last A program.

I'm guessing this is some sort of malware, but have no clue how to find out what it is, and there is no button in the area to uninstall it. It doesn't load as everything in HijackThis is normal, and there is nothing in the process tree that is abnormal.

Any ideas what it may be or how to get rid of it ?

TIA

Jym

Because I was having a problem with my computer I had to restore to an earlier date to correct the problem and that solitaire game reappeared in the add/remove program. I then tried to remove/delete it and a box comes up saying that program does not exist - so I can't delete it in the list.

How do I go about deleting that when it says it doesn't exist, but it is listed in the list?

Hi

I installed a trial plug-in to a piece of software which I later removed using its own uninstall option.

I see that the item still appears in the Control Panel>Add or Remove Programmes and if I click to remove it tells me it cannot find the uinstal log file.

As the plug-in is now non-existent, is there a way to remove the entry in Control Panel>Add or Remove Programmes?

A:Add/Remove Programmes in Control Panel

Hi Eric

Sometimes when you uninstall a program, the corresponding Add/Remove entry is not removed. This may be due to incomplete uninstallation or the poorly designed uninstaller itself.

Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe)
Locate the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
Make sure you backup the keys by exporting them to a .reg file.
Look for the name of the program with the orphaned entry.
Delete the entire listing for the software with the orphaned entry.
Close the registry editor.
Restart your computer.

Orphaned entries are those whose uninstallers are not available [but the registry entry might point to the actual uninstaller file]. You may also see errors like "missing install.log or uninstall.log" while trying to uninstall from Add/Remove Programs. The install.log/uninstall.log contains the uninstallation information about a program. When you remove a program from Add/Remove Programs, the log files come into play and remove the corresponding software entries from the registry and the files in the hard disk.

If the LOG files are missing, you may need to reinstall the application again (in the same path) and then try a clean uninstall again. In some cases, the application might be removed, but the entries may still exist in the Add/Remove Programs list. Orphaned entries are usually a result of a system restore rollback operation. Use the above method to remove the Uninstall entri... Read more

The DTS Audio Control Panel will not let me consistently use headphones. When I plug them in, there is no audio until I open the ACP, go to the Advanced tab, and Enable and then Disable the "Enable Multi-Playback Streaming" option. If I pause audio playback for more than a few minutes, I have to repeat this process. Sometimes this process won't work at all and I can't use headphones until I restart the computer. I don't care about software EQs and enhancements. I would love to not have to use this program at all and just use the built-in Windows audio controls, but I can't find any instructions about how to remove or disable this app. This is extremely frustrating as I'm using this computer for school, and when I pause lecture videos to write something down, my headphones will stop working until I go back into the ACP or restart the computer.

Hi. I've recently bought a Logik Webcam with Built in Microphone to replace my damaged built in HP Webcam in my laptop. I tried to install it and initially showed that it was succesfully installed. I searched for it and could not find it. I went to the devices and printers under Hardware and Sound (control panel) and that's where i found it. Problem is when i connect the device, it does not work. Every time i insert the CD, instead of the wizard installing, the dialog box just gives an option to 'are you sure you want to remove all the features of the highlighted text'. I've thought of deleting the icon from the devices and printers and don't know how as it is not available in the programs of the control panel.

Hi larryjr88. . .

Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista Support!

I would use CCleaner found HERE. Simply download CCleaner, install, Right-click on the CCleaner icon, Select "Run as Administrator", select "Tools" (left side - center), and a list of installed programs should appear.

Typically, CCleaner lists more installed programs than Windows Uninstall Programs does.

Good Luck to you.

I am running W2K w/SP2 and just noticed that the Add/Remove wizard that runs from the control panel says that no programs are installed. There are a number of products installed and all appear to be working correctly from the program menu and shortcuts. Why would the Add/Remove process think there aren't any programs installed? How do you correct this? Some products don't have "Uninstall" options and you must use the ADD/Remove program icon to do the install.

While viewing a listing of installed programs on my laptop via the Control Panel, I noticed there were many Windows XP Software Updates (that had been installed). Question: could these updates be removed from the control panel, or would doing so remove them from my computer?

I know that removing other programs listed really does remove them, but as each item shows "installed on XXXXX" instead of the usual info about size, etc. thought I'd ask about removing the updates as they DO take up space.

Thanks for any assistance.

Hello All,

I have been trying to solve a Zone Alarm problem, but the fix seems to have turned into a Windows problem. I hope someone can help me.

I've used ZoneAlarm Security Suite for several years now, but during the past year I have been unable to install upgrades. Usually the process gets stuck during the uninstall of the old version. SO this time I tried to manually uninstall first. It seemed to work (via Add/Remove Programs) and then I tried installing the new version, but it got stuck while copying files over.

On the Zonealarm Forum I got some help from someone who gave me some instructions to follow to "completely" uninstall all zonealarm (zonelabs) files. Following these instructions (which I'll post below) appeared to have removed Zonealarm, but I still could not install the new version - it got stuck at the exact same point while copying files over.

So now I don't have the old version and can't install the new version.
Now to the Windows problem. (Thanks for your patience)

Everything else on my PC seems to be working fine. Email, internet, other programs...but then I went to use Photoshop Elements and it started up by showing me the user license and asking for acceptance (which it hasn't done since I installed it over a year ago). I accepted it and then got the following message:Your Adobe Photoshop Elements username, organization, or serial number is missing or invalid. Click Start, Run and type REGEDIT. This starts the Registry Editor. Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE \Microsoft\Windows \CurrentVersion\Uninstall\<Program Name>
( <Program Name> here is Adobe Photoshop Elements)
*
In the right-pane, do the following:

Double-click NoRemove (REG_DWORD) and set it to 0
Double-click NoModify (REG_DWORD) and set it to 0

If NoRemove is set to 1, the Remove button will be unavailable
If NoModify is set to 1, the Change button will be unavailable
info

This should help with Adobe Photoshop Elements.

Now, for ZA.

Try using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. As long as you installed the application using the Windows Installer, this utility will remove all the folders, files, registry keys, and entries from your system and allow you to start over with a clean slate.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Locate and run msicuu2.exe to install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.
Locate and launch the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility on the Start menu.
From the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility window, locate the application in the list and click the Remove button.
Once the application has been removed, click the Exit button to close the utility.

I've tried Googling my issue with not much success, so here goes: at one point I had a program called Uninstall Tool on my computer which added a shortcut in Control Panel. I have since uninstalled it but the Control Panel icon remains, I would like to remove it. My Googling has so far only come across ways of hiding Control Panel entries, but I would prefer to remove it altogether.

Is there a way of doing this such as searching a particular directory/registry entry of sorts where said entries (or locations of entries) are stored?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

A:[SOLVED] Remove a Control Panel icon?

Control panel applets are usually stored in the Windows\System32 folder, and will have a .cpl extension.

Switch to Details View, sort by Type, scroll almost all the way down to the Control Panel item type, see if the tool is listed there.

There may be other related DLLs that were not removed, but removing the .cpl file if present should keep it from appearing in Control Panel.

I'm looking for a fix my computer that has become suddenly problematic.

At present, I need your help or set of instructions for an issue or issues on the which I think began with a faulty Firefox upgrade.

1. I can't access the Add/Remove program listing in Normal mode, but Safe Mode.
2. I can't install latest Windows update. It keeps failing.
4. Ad Aware suddenly disappeared, and I can't reinstall because it says I'm missing a Microsoft Visual C ++ Runtime file which does exist when viewing Control Panel/Add/Remove in Safe Mode.

What would you recommend? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

A:Unable to Display Add/Remove in Control Panel

This is a core malware/spyware issue, and not a Windows XP issue. I'd have appreciated it not being redirected to this new location without having been addressed.

The problem began with what I think was a faulty Firefox upgrade.

I detected four or five Trojans using Malwarebytes in Safe Mode that weren't detected in Normal mode.

As noted above, I can't reinstall Ad Aware.

At the onset of this (these) issues, I scanned and removed and detected defected or corrupted files using Advance System Optimizer.

I'm running AVG now from Safe Mode.

I have even physically checked through everything in the C:\windows\system32 folder but I am unable to find this file or what ever it is called. Does anyone have any other ideas how I can get rid of it? I did a complete restore of my system earlier. In checking various websites I see where others have complained of this very same thing after doing a restore. I never could find a solution though. I have been in and out of the registry so many times, deleting things, I am getting nervous doing it. I am assuming that this Java may have came when I purchased this machine as I would not have downloaded this old of a version. This Gateway... Read more

A:Unable to remove the Java plug-in from the control panel

Check for JAVA entry here

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ ControlPanel \ NameSpace

You should have entries similar to this

Check for each entries and find out the one which points to JAVA

Delete it,restart the PC

Make sure to back up this key before deleting entries

A:Solved: Unable to remove Apps via control panel

marburg, Are they listed in the Add/Remove Programs and if they are what happens when you try to remove them? Did you look in the Start>Programs menu and the Program's folder to see if there's a uninstall.exe or a unwise .exe file? If all else fails try the Freee Revo Uninstaller program at the link below.

Hey Gang,

I have XPsp2. Why does it take Control Panel and in particular, Add/Remove Programs such a long time to open and populate its list.

It can take anywhere from 10-40 seconds to do this. My drive is 40% free.

IS there anything I can do about it?

Thanks,
HULK

A:Why Does It Take Control Panel/Add-Remove A Long Time To Open?

Hi Hulk701,

I guess it's because the utility browses the registry to retrieve the installed softwares.

We know how poorly uninstalls clean up, so as I've done before, I ran REGEDIT and deleted all remaining entries (or so I thought). When I went to re-install the program (it had some issues originally), a pop-up box from the application appeared with no text, and no links to installing it.

I went to Control Panel, selected Add/Remove programs and the related pop-up box appeared with Add/Remove programs in the title and the description of the add/remove feature. The programs never filled in.

I suspect I messed up a registry entry but can't figure out which one as yet. Has anyone ever heard of this happening or know how to fix it?

Being the DUMAS that I am, I neither backed up the registry nor used the Last Known Good option when I had the opportunity (I didn't think about it until it was too late.).

Welcome to TSG....

You might have to remove the hard drive from this computer and install it in another computer as a slave drive and after it is able to be accessed by Windows on that computer you will have to manually backup all of your important data that you have to another media like CD-R's, DVD or Thumb drive. Then when this is done return it to the original computer as a master drive on the primary IDE cable and do the following:

Hi,

I can't seem to find a solution this anywhere online.
It's not been an issue in terms of system performance, but it's just annoying. And also a little weird.

I changed motherboards a while back. Old one had VIA audio. New one has Realtek.
Uninstalled the old drivers and installed new drivers when I made the hardware switch.

Current system works fine in every way, including the Realtek Audio.

The thing is, there is still an icon for "VIA HD Audio Deck" in control panel. When I click it, it tells me "application not found".
I have tried the tip to right-click to create a shortcut on desktop, and then find the actual file location from the new shortcut's details, but it does not show a location for the VIA cpl or other files, other than All Control Panel Items. Can't figure out how to get it out of there.

I have tried installing the old VIA drivers and uninstalling, no joy.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

A:Cannot remove VIA HD Audio Deck icon from Control Panel

First make a restore point then search using "Find" in RegEdit for all the keys for VIA HD Audio Deck and delete them.

I got some type of virus a few days ago that has changed my administrative priviledges. Initially I was not able to access task manager or the registry. Now I cannot get into my control panel. The viruses that Norton has caught are: backdoor.trojan (ksacre.exe), hacktool.rootkit (ksacre.exe), trojan.srizbi, trojan.spamthru, trojan.perfcoo, trojan.killav. Even though Norton says it cleaned them, they still pop up.

Hi there, I hope you smart people can help. When I go to my control panel, the add/remove programs button and the regional/language options display as icons that are not registered/recognised/associated with any program and if I click on them nothing happens. This happens in both the classic view and categories view.

I am not to sure when this first happened and I have been doing some "fixing" on my pc - so I guess I broke it.

I am currently running XP Home Edition and have installed SP3. I seem to recall these options being available after the install so I do not believe this is the problem. I have also recently installed Windows Blinds and I have seen that non XP themes can play some havoc with some of these controls. So I have unloaded Windows Blinds and have reverted back to the original XP themes, still no luck.

I have also recently added RegCure and Error Smart (I have seen that you do not advise on these - too late however, so perhaps these registry fixes have caused this.

I also run PC Tools Spyware Doctor and Anti Virus and the databases are up to date and have been run every other day with no problems for the past few runs. Worst I have had is some tracking cookies installed, which I always remove.

In trying to resolve this problem I have tried the following:
1. As mentioned above removed Windows Blinds and reverted themes back to XP original
2. Googled and before coming across your site saw one suggesting the following:

A:How can I remove unwanted shortcuts in control panel in Vista?

Hi!
You could download yamicsoft Vista Manager and select: SECURITY> CONTROL PANEL
then select the shortcut and click delete Button on bottom of window.

I would be careful though. there is no recreate option in vista or vista manager that i know of.
I assume that you must be wanting to remove an aplett installed by a program you no longer want to use? otherwise i would leave it alone.

Hi

I uninstalled Quicktime due to the fact that I never use it, however after I uninstalled it, I realized that I need Quicktime in order for itunes to work. So after learning that I just installed the "QuickTime Alternative" Free-Codecs.com : QuickTime Alternative 3.1.0 : QuickTime Alternative will allow you to play QuickTime files (.mov, .qt and other extensions) without having to install the official QuickTime Player.as opposed to having to reinstall the full QuickTime Program again.

- Please see attached pic -

However now when I right click on the Control Panel icon on my Windows 7 Taskbar, there are 2 Quicktime icons. The Quicktime in the Green rectangle is what I want, however the one in the red rectangle is the old one that I would like to remove.

I can't seem to remove it even when right clicking on the item and clicking on "Remove From this List". Nothing happens when I do that.

Is there anywhere in the Registry where I can just delete it ?
Thanks

PS

I'm a bit of a neat freak

FIRST OF ALL, I'm running Windows XP.

I'm having a REALLY weird thing going on with my 'add or remove programs'. I looked for a solution but couldn't find anything. I'm not even sure how to describe it, so I screencapped it.

The best I can explain it is that it's a giant, useless black and white box in the middle of all the programs. I'm sure that it's not supposed to be there. PLEASE HELP!
