Installing Genuine win 7 over non genuine version

Q: Installing Genuine win 7 over non genuine version

I have a laptop purchased several years ago off e-bay with Win 7 installed and it worked fine for well over a year but then I got the " This in not a genuine win 7 blah blah and black screen. It was a little late to return the computer like over a year or more so I have just been using it with ugly accusatory messages and black screen! Ok Microsoft you win, I bought a legit new two DVD 32 and 64 bit Win 7. Since the machine came with the Ultimate version I bought the ultimate version.

Here is what I want to know. How do I substitute this genuine version for my bad version without losing my other programs? I don't want to start all over as I have a whole lot of programs that I want to keep as is. Can I do that?

Hello w6k and welcome to Seven Forums.

If everythig is working OK on your computer it should be just a simple matter of changing the invalid Product Key with the PK from your newly purchased disk.

Please help!!

I bought my PC off someone's mate which already had Windows XP Professional 5.1 installed. Turns out to be a copy. This was about 4 years ago. I am now getting a message at the bottom of my desktop saying 'You could be victim of software counterfeiting. This copy did not pass Genuine Software validation'. I'm not eligible for 'free' copy either.

I've bought a Genuine Microsoft Word 2000 cd which has validation product key. The cd is SR-1 1983-2000. Could you tell me if these two are the same version? Also, I thought I deleted the copy, but still have XP stuff on my computer. What do I do?

Looking forward to your response.

A:Getting rid of windows xp copy & installing genuine version

Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Word 2000 are not the same thing, one is an operating system and the other is a word processing application. If you desire to make your copy of Windows XP Professional legal, then that is what you need to buy.

The store where you bought Word 2000 may let you return it if the package is un-opened.

My computer (from lenovo) came with windows 7 (home). Because I run a domain within my lan, I purchased and downloaded windows 7 64 bit professional. Today I downloaded and ran System Mechanic pro (trial version) from Iola site. After running it and rebooting, my system shows that the system is not activated (windows is not genuine is show on desktop). After I ran MGADialog the log files show Genuine state set to non-genuine (0x00000000) for application Id 55c92. Also MGADialog showed :

There was a 5 page thread on trying to downgrade from Ultimate to Win 7 Pro but I thought I should start a new thread. I have a thead on a different forum but was hoping someone here might know the answer.

Users computer says Windows is not genuine, was 7 pro, in Sept 2013 we upgraded to Ultimate to use Bitlocker. System bought from Dell, used Anytime Upgrade to Ultimate. I spent ages on phone with Microsoft today, they have completely agreed both copies are valid, and the computer is saying they're not, in error, they will not admit that it's a Windows Update that caused it likely.

They took over remotely, and 30 minutes later gave up, none of the methods worked. She then advised me to BUY a copy of 8.1 and do a clean install. I don't want 8.1, if we have to reinstall I'd rather do Win 7 Pro again(same valid code) and then up to Ultimate again(same valid code), or go to Win 10 when it comes out. Of course you can't upgrade a "non genuine" copy of Windows 7 to win 10, even if it is in fact genuine.

We don't want to have to reinstall. MS also told me I need to downgrade to Win 7 Pro, put in the code, then upgrade to Ultimate. To do that they said I have to do a clean install. I've seen all the links to Windows Downgrader but we aren't exactly thrilled to be advised to use a 3rd party app. I have not tried the registry suggestions yet, I'm not particularly comfortable dealing with the registry. Two questions.

If MS had been willing to just give me a new U... Read more

Hi

I have an ASUS notebook (U31F i5 with 4 GB mem) which until recently I used only occasionally. It has Legit Office 2010, but no CD/DVD drive. My desktop hard disk crashed in a big way so I am using the notebook as my main computer.

It has just recently started throwing up messages that my Windows Homw Premium (x64) is not genuine. It is gebuine OEM and activated (back when I got the notebook), and I have not tampered in any way.

I have had a look at some other threads on this forum on this issue, and so have dowloaded and run MGAdiag.exe, but to my inexpert eye, it appears to report everything OK.

I have pasted text in below, and would welcome more expert advice as to whther I have missed something, and if not, what should I do next?

I am lost. Finally my laptop has to send back for repair.

I deleted the 'System' and repaired the boot files with a thumb drive created by another computer because my laptop doesn't has an optical drive. When tried to reboot to Windows, it is found nothing come out after 'Preparing for your desktop' but a message about 'this version is not genuine' at the right bottom corner. I am not sure why it happens. Do you think it is the reason is the recover thumb drive is created by another computer?
Without the 'System" partition, it couldn't get back to the pre-set recovery mode as well. The only solution is repair by sending back to the manufacturer.

A:this version is not genuine

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Hello, I'm having a problem here. I recently had a problem with my computer being infected with a rootkit, which was removed thanks to the help of a wonderful person on this forum. After that I went on a 3 week vacation, when I came back and plugged in my pc I went straight to microsoft.com to get any updates that may be available. It asked me to validate my version of windows and I clicked "yes". It then claimed that my version was not genuine and that baffles me. I have had this computer for years, almost 4 now. Since then I've had about 2 major problems with it. One being a power surge in my place and having to replace the motherboard, hard drive and power supply. I hired someone to install them for me, at my request he installed Windows XP Pro (I had Home before this happened). I placed my important files back onto my computer and everything was fine(this was a little over a year ago). Since then I would check microsoft.com occasionally and get updates from there. I would have to go through the validation process and it would pass my version of windows as genuine every time. Last month I somehow got a rootkit on my machine, which as I explained above was removed thanks to the help of Buckeye_Sam. I admit that I had not updated some of my anti-virus programs nor gotten an update from microsofts' site in a while, and I suppose that probably did me in. Anyway after the ordeal I went and updated all my programs, and went to microsoft to get updates, went through the validatio... Read more

A very rare set of errors, there! - the result of multiple attempts to circumvent activation and validation requirements.

The installed Key is the OEM_SLP Key for an ASUS computer - but your motherboard shows itself to be a retail Gigabyte one.

You need to reformat and reinstall with genuine media and Key

I have just received a XP laptop from my grandfather for xmas. It, so far, has been great. The other day I tried to download wmp11, it said that my windows is not genuine. Truthfully, I am looking for a free way to validate my windows. I know it can be done, and I have found a website with some links, and some websites that show you how to go into the registry and edit some stuff.. I am knowledgeable with the registry and it does not scare me, but this is such a nice little computer, I do not want to mess it up. And I am unsure whether or not I trust the website I found with the links. I had the same problem with my tower computer two years ago, I found out that it's windows was pirated too (pawn shop buy), somehow I validated it but I cannot remember how. ): Pretty pathetic, huh?

Good evening guys.

A friend of mine recently dropped in her laptop to myself, and it has a message stating ;

Insert the Windows Installation DVD or CD into your computer to begin the reinstallation process.

In the bottom right hand side of the black screen it says ;

Windows Vista (TM)
Build 6000
This version of Windows is not genuine.

I dont believe she has any Windows Vista install CD's to my knowledge...

From what I can gather, she told me she got a virus on her laptop a while ago and took it too a computer shop ( I'm assuming independant ) to get it '' fixed ''.

I believe they must have reinstalled / rebooted the hard drive installing Windows Vista.

Everytime I turn the machine on this message comes up, and I cannot go any further. I click cancel and the user logs off.

The Ctrl + Alt + Del facility is disabled and I cant go any further to look into it. I havent tried booting in Safe Mode. Will this make a difference ?

I went into another store and they said that they can sort out this problem. It will cost ?90, and they will install a free year subscription with an Anti Virus.

From what I can see, the store she went to may have installed a '' dodgy copy '' of Vista ? Any ideas ?

Regards,

Glen Whall

Hello and thanks in advance to whoever can help me.

A couple of days ago I was downloading some video files and since I wasn't paying attention I clicked an .exe instead of a video file. I know this makes me the idiot, but I have beaten myself up over it for a while and cannot fix this myself so I am now humbly coming forward with my idiocy to get my Toshiba Qosmio back up and health. So here's the deal:

I got the popup that I wasn't running a genuine copy of Windows 7 64 bit Pro (which I am...came from the factory). Tried to resolve it online and the only answer I got was to buy another copy of Windows, which I don't really want to do. Then I tried to run Windows Update and I get random error codes as to why I can't. I tried a system restore and got a message that there is an error on my hard drive, to run chkdsk. Tried that, nothing. Even when Windows rebooted it wouldn't let me. So then I boot towards the safe mode menu and see an option for Windows Repair, choose that and click on system restore. I pick a restore point a week or so ago and try to restore. Negative. Got a message that not only could it not restore but now that restore point was damaged (hooray). Tried rebooting to that screen and all I get is black: pointer works with touch pad but not mouse. Tried booting into safe mode and I couldn't get explorer.exe to run and had no icons. Then rebooted to Last Known Good Configuration which is where I am now.

Another thing.... Read more

I had a non-genuine copy of Ms Office installed on my computer, and have now purchased a genuine copy. Uninstalling the old (non-genuine) copy is impossible because it doesn't have an uninstaller, and it doesn't even show in Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs. So I just installed my genuine copy in a different folder in Program Files, so that the non-genuine copy wouldn't interfere with the newly installed genuine copy.

The problem is that even though I tried opening Ms Word or Excel directly from the newly installed folder and not from the old link to the old version, it still gives me a message (like before) that says "Get Genuine Office - This copy of Office is not genuine".

How do I get rid of the old (non-genuine) Ms Office if I am unable to uninstall it? Please don't tell me to work on the registry - I don't want to touch the registry because I'm not a computer pro, and I won't know what I'm doing. I just want to get rid of the message that says get genuine Office.

I am using Windows XP Home.

Thank you

I recently downloaded SP1 to my Windows 7 machine and shortly thereafter a message appeared on the lower right hand corner indicating that "Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of windows is not genuine". I bought this machine used and so I verified the key with Microsoft and it is a genuine OEM key but try as I may there is nowhere to enter a product key. I go to start-computer-right click- and at the bottom under Windows Activation it states Status: Not Available - Product ID: Not Available and NO place to enter a product key. Also all of the DOS commands that I can find on the Net do not seem to work either. When I contact Microsoft support they are no help at all and tell me I need to do a CLEAN install with the disk that came with my machine. The only problem is that no disk came with this machine. I have also been told by "Tech support" since I have an OEM key I just cannot use ANY install win 7 disk. I have a TON of Apps. loaded on this machine and it TICKS me off that I have a VALID OEM key and seemingly no way to enter or fix which I suspect is a Microsoft bug to begin with as they have overshot to prevent piracy. Someone Please help!

A:My Genuine activation issue although I have a genuine license

Interesting.
The error message
Notification Reason: 0xC004F063.
...is a pretty specific one, and almost always means that the machine has been reinstalled using media other than the manufacturer's Recovery media, while still using the manufacturer's OEM_SLP Key instead of the COA Key.

For what version and edition of Windows is the machine licensed - according to the COA sticker on the case (or inside the battery compartment)

Enough with the teenage foolishness... My version of XP was installed by a friend and was not genuine. I had avoided updates for obvious reasons up til recently. When the HD took a dump, the service shop that I took it to, ran an update and now I am tagged. I value my machine and the whole computer experience too much to by-pass the annoying pop up. I want to go with genuine MS XP.
Will buying and XP upgrade do it ($99)? Or full version ($199) Or follow MS online instructions to make my version genuine? I want to be legal, but not spend too much.

A:Genuine XP? Will an upgrade Version 4 $99 work?

You will need to get the full version. You may find an OEM version cheaper but it will require a format and clean install.

DO NOTHING yet! - first we need to see how Windows sees your disk.
If your disk does have only one partition on it, there is no need whatever to create a Logical drive, unless the current installation is into other than a standard basic partition.
Please open Disk Managment (diskmgmt.msc) and take a screenshot - attach the screenshot to your reply.

The we can hopefully see what you've done.

Its wierd because I was on the point of getting Windows defender (or formely known as Microsoft anti-spyware) and i had to go through a key validation test,Unfortunately it didnt pass,I wonder why.

My computer started off with Windows ME and then I had my uncle come over and install Windows XP Pro on my computer (a couple o' years back) and so everything worked fine, untill now.

Do u think i shouldve bought my own XP cd? or is there something we can fix?

If someone bothers to explain why it wouldnt work I'd greatly appreciate it!

I've read many posts relating to this problem and nothing seems to work. I bought my machine "used" from a former co-worker whom I can no longer get in contact with. I have no idea if he installed a genuine copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64. It's been fine for approx. 4 years but now gives me the "This copy of Windows may not be genuine" message. Below is a copy of the MGADiag report. If the copy of Windows is not genuine, at least I know what the next step is. Thank you in advance for checking.

I started hitting this problem last week. My PC just freezes. Can't do anything. I have to do a hard reset with the power button to reboot. Once I've rebooted and logged in I have a few minutes at best before things will freeze up again. This is consistent. It is not always consistent that I can power up. Sometimes I also get the "Not a genuine version of Windows" message in the lower right corner. Getting this message also started last week with the freezing. I suspect some corruption has occurred. This IS a legitimate version of Windows. A friend who worked for Microsoft bought it for me from the company store. I tried running in Safe Mode with Networking but it also freezes. If I run in Safe Mode without networking then I can run just fine. Any help is much appreciated. If I can provide any debug data to help I'll be glad to but I need to know what to run and how to capture it. Luckily I have a 2nd PC in my study also running Windows 7 but the wife wants it back. Thanks!

Hi all,

I bought a second hand laptop recently and it has Windows 7 Ultimate on it which is a pirate version. Is it possible to turn it into a Genuine home version or will I need to reinstall the whole thing?? I can't really afford to fork out for the ultimate version but also dont want to loose other software that's on the machine.

Thanks,
Paul.

A:Make Pirate Version of Windows 7 Genuine?

1st of all, piracy is illegal. 2nd your would have to install the Win & home since your can't work your way backwards. And since you have a pirated version chances are your registering vbs scripts on windows 7 are dead.

I was hoping that by posting this diagnostics report, I may get some help with my Windows 7 Build 7601 This version is not genuine error:

I have a recycled Dell laptop (I bought from a medical company that was updating their hardware) and according to the seller, the version of Windows that was installed is authentic. This laptop used to have Vista installed on it. He upgraded it to Windows 7 before selling it to me. I do not have a copy of Windows 7 to attempt a reinstall of the OS.

I tried reactivating Windows but it doesn't like the product key I have on this laptop either.

Thanks for any help you can offer! I'm not very technical and at a loss!

A:Windows 7 Build 7601 This is not a genuine version

I am by no means a licensing expert, but from what I gather, this:

Quote:

means that Windows should have been pre-installed on said laptop by the OEM (Dell), which is not the case as you've pointed out. Purchase a copy of Windows 7 and perform a clean installation.

Apparently, when I originally installed my legitimate version of W7 Ultimate, I did not activate it (!!???).

When I try to run Microsoft Windows activation (slui.exe), I get the infamous 'access denied' message.

So I spoke to Microsoft Technical Support for activation.

The guy confirmed that:
- I have a genuine product key for W7 Ultimate 64 bit
- the product key was never activated
- they can't help me. I have to talk with HP (the manufacturer).

So, I called HP Tech support. They told me they couldn't help, because my machine was out of warranty!

Can you help?

Hello all, and thank you for the oppurtunity to post.
I got a Pop-up, titled Microsoft Security Essential, which states I am infected by a Trojan. At the same time I was surprised to see a Windows Genuine notification , which stated that because I have made major changes since I first loaded Windows XP Pro, I now have to reactivate windows. Is this for real? The Microsoft notice will not go away no matter what I do, it sits in the middle of the screen and resists all efforts to close. If this is a Virus I am sure I will need Help in removing. Hello, I am using an Acer Aspire 5738G, which originally came with Windows Vista Home Premium. Later I got the free Windows 7 Home Premium update disc and never encountered any problem.

But since the last 1 month or so, I've been getting this 'Windows not genuine' message on a random basis. Microsoft Security Essentials says that it will disable itself within 30 days if the issue is not resolved. When I click on 'Resolve issue', an IE window is opened and takes me to Microsoft's website. When I do all the steps explained, everything goes back to normal and my Windows is again considered as genuine.

I am a bit worried, although I can always solve the problem, it still irritates me when I see the 'Windows not genuine' message. What could be the cause of the problem and what is the solution?

Thanks in advance.

My HP Pavilion dv6 laptop suddenly has decided Windows is not Genuine. I put in the number on the bottom of the laptop and it says it is verified and good. But then after a while it goes back to saying it is not Genuine. I am out of the country at the moment, and I need to fix this in the meantime. I do Slui 3 and fix it, because if I try to go online to do this it won't finish it up, it just sits there loading. I haven't had issues with this laptop at all otherwise. Been using it for years. Bought it brand new. I do have virus protection but I am beginning to wonder if this is a virus? Or something like that? You would think that after entering the right number and getting the yes this is valid that it would be fine?

A friend of mine has a Windows XP Home Edition machine running Service Pack 2. She called me along this afternoon because she has been having problems with the machine for several weeks! Anyway this machine runs Norton Internet Security Center which was up to date as of a few weeks ago, but because of her problem it no longer seems able to complete its update process although she has 322 days left of her subscription. I tried several times but each time the update process terminated after doing some of the downloads. There is also an icon in her system tray area (right hand side) which refers to the non-genuine windows message and tells her to clickon it to resolve the non-genuine Windows problem.

The problem she has is that on boot up she gets a message saying that her version of Windows is not genuine (it is since it was supplied with the machine 4 years ago) and what is more it talks about Windows XP Professional whereas she has Windows XP Home. In addition to these messages which give her the option to resolve the problem now or later, she gets pop-ups at various times saying that her copy of Windows is not genuine, maybe counterfeit etc.

In addition when these problems started to occur she says she was no longer able to connect to the internet (she has a router and broadband) - I noticed that her connection was disabled so I re-enabled this and we can now connect to the Internet.

She also has problems with IE (think it is V8) whereby it comes up with an error aft... Read more

I have a laptop with Windows 7 Home Basic OEM pre-installed, it was genuine and had COA on the bottom of laptop.
Accidentally, at that time I was 12 years old, so I don't know about 'crack', 'hack', software counterfeit, etc. . Thus, I thought my Windows was 'low', I want to upgraded it to Windows 7 Ultimate version with Windows Anytime Upgrade.

I searched key generator (keygen) on internet, I found it and generated the code (for Windows 7 Ultimate). Then, I pasted the serial number (product key) to Windows Anytime Upgrade. First, it was failed. So I cancelled the upgrade. But, when the laptop's shutdown and I turn it on again, it was upgrading to the Windows 7 Ultimate. How weird!

Now, I know the pirated / not genuine Windows is not safe, against the law, etc.

My question, is, I restored it to the genuine version of my Windows (7 Home Basic OEM) using my product key.
But I downloaded the setup using the Windows 7 Ultimate pirated (using keygen) that I told you...
Is my Windows become 'not genuine'?
After I restored it, It is very good, clean, doesn't contain virus or error, works perfectly. Then I upgraded it to Windows 10 Home.
Is it okay? Or I should buy the DVD to perform clean install so it is 100% clean?

Need your opinion, please...
Thanks

I am a student and have gotten a Windows XP Professional with SP2 (Single User) ISO Image which allows me install a copy on my PC. I would like to reinstall with this new product without losing all my data and software, could someone please help and tell me how to go about doing this.

Thanks.

I bought a Sony laptop with Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium installed. I upgraded to Pro to match my desktop from what I thought was a genuine seller, but having read the threads I see 220 in the PID and getting messages it isn't genuine.
I was wondering what my options are to make getting a genuine PID as painless as possible:
1. Follow the windows validation route from laptop for ?138 which seems to be buying a complete Win7 pro package. I am assuming this would be seemless and not affect any of my progrmas or files?
2. Purchase a full Win7 pro licence from another seller, assuming it is genuine. Question is what happens if you go to install Win7 pro genuine on a machine running Win7 Pro non-genuine? Can I use the upgrade menus and will this been a seemless "upgrade" leaving my programs and files OK?
3. Cheapest route reinstall Home premium OS that I have on disc then buying a genuine upgrade package for more like ?80-90. While saving little bit of money I imagine this probably needs to be done as a clean install i.e. wipe all programs and files. Doesn't sound like a worthwhile saving in cash for the time involved.
Any advice appriciated especially if option 2. will work easily. i have asked this question in the MS forum and only anser was to use option 1, but ?138 sounds expensive.

A:installing a New PID as OS found to be non-genuine

There is usually a way to return to factory specs (the system on your computer when you bought it), if you can do that you can buy an upgrade version of Windows and install that.

Boot and try to hold f10 and alt key

A little long, but please bear with me.

I once had a Proteva cumputer with a 2 gig HD. I bought a 35 gig internal HD to use as storage. When I bought a Dell Dimension 5 years ago, I took the 35 gig HD out of the Proteva and am using it as a storage HD in the Dell. The Dell had WinME but I upgraded to WinXP Home. The HD that came with the Dell is on the verge of crashing. The Dell is giving me a message that the HD is running "outside normal parameters" or something like that.

So my question is, if I remove the dying HD and put the 35 gig HD in as the master, can I install WinXP on it using the same upgrade disk? And will Microsoft recognize it as "genuine" if it is in the same machine?

I plan to use this just as a temporary fix until I can buy a whole new computer.

Hi all,
This is my first post and I really need some help.
I just installed a new mother board and upgraded the memory to 4 GB DDR2..
I am running Win XP Pro with SP3 (just installed).
I used hd from the old system with the OS and just installed the Mobo installation CD to this OS. The Mobo is an Elitegroup A780GM-A with an AMD Athlon 64 x2 processor.
As the title says, I can not install the windows genuine advantage. The error code saids that it is downloaded, but says it will not install and does not give any error codes.
Can I get a few suggestions on what to do. This is really driving me up a tree.
Thanks for the help.

if winxp pro came on the system that you just installed a new motherboard in, then according to the oem license it must be replaced with a new copy of xp. The only exception isif it was the exact same motherboard as before.

I was having an issue with Windows reporting as not genuine, and found some advice online to uninstall and reinstall KB971033. I uninstalled it fine, but when trying to reinstall it, it is failing with error code 800706F7. This is a volume license Windows 7 install, installed with a valid MAK.

I'm sure the two issues are related.

From some research online I have tried to run the Windows Update Readiness Tool to no success.

I have uploaded the CheckSUR.persist.log file to this post, and here is my MGA Diag Report:

Hi,
This is Chandrasekhar, i joined this forum seeking help on how to revert back to Windows 7 Home Premium.
my laptop (Acer Aspire 5745G) originally has genuine Win 7 HP (no media available) and was recently loaded to dual boot with windows server 2003 (for learning and practicing SAP developer) and Windows 7 Ultimate. The Win 7 Ultimate was a counterfeit license, which i do not want. i want to revert back to my original-genuine Win 7 HP. Even i am getting the alerts/notices from MS that i am using counterfeit License.

can anyone help me with step-by-step process to re-install my Win 7 HP genuine license without disturbing the Win 2003 server installation as i paid highly to a third party for its installation.

thanks in advance for taking time to help me.

regards
Chandrasekhar

A:Re-installing Genuine Windows 7HP on a dual boot laptop

See if this works for you ...

1. Power on the computer
2. At the white ACER BIOS screen, hold the Alt key and press the F10 key simultaneously to start Acer eRecovery.
3. Once eRecovery has loaded, click Restore to Factory Default Settings
4. Click OK to continue
5. From here, the eRecovery process will update all the data on the C: drive and restore a fully functional factory image (approximately 10 minutes).
6. Once eRecovery has run, press OK to reboot unit

Note that all data will be lost during this process and your computer will be brought back to it's original factory state and settings.

I am attempting to correct an issue with Windows stating my copy is not genuine, I am also unable to install Windows updates, which I presume is part of the same issue. What I've done so far: I was able to run slui 3 and enter my key from the sticker and it was accepted. Thought maybe this solved issue but still can't update. Ran chkdsk /r and scannow. Both completed, with scannow giving the message: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them." Ran the MS tool to correct update issues. Says it fixed the issue but installation of updates still bombs out. Finally I found a post elsewhere about removing KB971033 so I did that...of course I noticed in other posts here that that wasn't a great idea. Unfortunately with my inability to run Windows Update, I can't correct that now.

I just ran the MGDiag tool and results are below:

Hi,

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Used since Win7 came out with no genuinity issues until now.

A short while after the SP1 update I started getting popups claiming my Windows is not genuine. I know for a fact that my Windows is genuine.

Properties show my Windows is activated. I have activated both online and by phone yet the popup still keeps appearing. The MGA diagnostics show that there is a tampered file and apparently it is causing the validation to flag my system as not genuine:

HealthStatus Bitmask Output:
Tampered File: %systemroot%\system32\slcext.dll|slcext.dll.mui
I have tried to fix this for a while now. The file seems to be associated with MUI packages and Something called Vistalizator.

I have checked the registry and there are no MUI's. US-EN only. I do not have anything called Vistalizator.

I am rather frustrated with googling in microsoft pages as they all lead to the Vistalizator and MUI packs but I don't have them so the fix does not apply.

Thanks.

Hi!
I've got windows is not genuine problem build 7601. I bought this laptop in USA, it had US language configurations etc. After I set some settings (mainly language) for UK (I know, I shouldn't have done it) "windows is not genuine" had started to appear. I was able to get rid of this problem with just by typing "SLMGR -REARM" in cmd console but now it still appears, even when I do it. It's quite annoying that I've got original copy of windows and this message keeps appearing, and now, I can't even do anything with it. If you have solution to solve this problem once and for all (legal solution, I want to get updates because I have original copy of windows!) I would much appreciate it. I think something happened when I changed some of the language settings (these message hadn't appeared for years). I've changed language settings back to US but it doesn't help.

Hello,
Im in a trouble, so im hoping that you will help me.
I had a genuine windows 7 for a laptop a while ago, then i sent the laptop to my parents in a different country.
So i bought a new pc, without a operating system, driven by a lack of money i downloaded the old not genuine xp. Along came problems, unknown errors, bugs, etc.
Like for example, now i cannot start safe mode, i cannot make a new partition thru cmd or partition magic cause of somekind of file xmnt.exe is missing.
Sadly, i want to keep my bought games and programs, 'cause my internet is pretty slow, so it will take for ages to redownload/reinstall everything.

The question is: Can i upgrade my not genuine windows xp to windows 7 by buying it and installing like it's a common program keeping all of the programs/games/etc.?

Thank you in advance.

A:Upgrade not genuine windows xp to genuine windows 7.

Sadly if you are looking to regain stability your best bet would be a fresh install of windows 7
Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

as outlined there you can do a fresh install with the upgrade disc, this would result in the loss of your games and programs, though do a straight upgrade from xp to win 7 without cleaning out the garbage is just going to make win 7 run horribly too.

Hey guys,

I understand i'm new here and haven't made any posts yet, but I am in dire need for some unofficial tech help!

Basically have been running an OEM version of Windows 7 64-bit on a custom built machine (Possibly bought this from Amazon or another online retailer)
Recently i disposed of the retail box but kept a backup of the serial code on my computer, as I moved into my University accommodation and didn't need it.

So I boot up my PC after having windows 7 installed for at least 8 months or so, and my desktop is black with "this copy of windows is not genuine" (build 7600).
I rang Microsoft for an explanation and after being moved through 3 departments I was asked for my serial code and was told I had to buy a new code as this code was "MSDN" or something and was counterfeit. I tried explaining to the guy that i bought my OEM license from a reputable retailer (like I said, I think it's Amazon or possibly Play.com) but the only answer he'd give me is to buy a new copy, or to contact the retailer directly, and refused to pass me up to a supervisor.

How the heck am I supposed to demand a refund for a product they supplied to me 8 months ago?? I'm about to call them now but was hoping for any advice at all if possible whether its a number to call or soemthing I can check on my PC.

I would be so grateful for the help!
Thanks guys,

Tom

EDIT:
Sorry just to clarify,I haven't installed my OEM serial on any other machine, or updated my motherboard! :/... Read more

A:Genuine bought OEM now "not genuine"

I would keep trying to get a supervisor on the line. The first tier of call center monkeys probably have to get approval from a supervisor anyway before they can tell anyone anything other than "buy a new key". It's possible that you were scammed into paying for a pirated or hacked windows disk. Some of the counterfeits I've seen pictures of can look legitimate until you compare them to the real thing, however, I think it's more likely that you ended up talking to a couple of douchebags who enjoy using what little power they have to ruin someone's day. Keep calling until you get someone with a little sense

Welcome to the Seven Forums, Kagamiseki.

My suggestion is that you revert to the original key that came preinstalled. Then phone up Microsoft and explain the matter that you have stated to them. They shall help you in activating the OS.

To the best of my knowledge this procedure has never failed in getting the OS activated if the Key was genuine.

Hi guys,
I hope someone can give me some advice. Non-computer literate girlfriend bought an ACER laptop with OS pre-installed and no disks. The laptop was purchased from a reputable retailer in a shopping mall about 4 years ago and was primarily used for email, facebook, skype and games. I gave my girlfriend some basic instruction but noticed she had no on-line protection so I downloaded a firewall, AV and cleaning applications. I checked and cleaned up every few months, finding the occasional trojan etc, and also downloaded updates. She reported some performance problems when I was away working and took the laptop to the mall who identified and removed a virus. Another issue was that the battery started to fail and had to be replaced last year. The only other significant issue was that I tried to update to Win 8 and all started well but the install failed and further attempts just resulted in the disk not being read and a message saying that UDF system was needed. I downloaded the recommended UDF reader but no change. With all the hype surrounding Win 10, I have been cleaning and updating the laptop over the past week and noticed a lot of some Windows Update download failures. I managed to get these to download and install in batches although this sometimes took 3-4 times. Sfc /scannow would not get past 44% until I ran chkdsk / r and /f and then everything was okay except that now Windows is no longer activated and does not accept the product key. I downloaded a... So I have a very interesting problems.
I own a Toshiba Laptop.  Brought it brand new in a fully sealed box from I wanna say either NewEgg, CompUSA, or similar store.  It was purchased about 4yrs ago.
About 9months ago the laptop's screen died on me so I transplanted the hard drive into a desktop as the main drive and I have been using that ever since.

A couple days ago I got a warning saying my version of Win 7 Home Premium was not genuine.  This totally threw me off because I've NEVER re-installed the OS, or anything of that sort.  So now it appears the only option Microsoft is giving me is to purchase a legit version of Win7.

Now I have the original Laptop shell, and it still has a readable Product Key, my question is will that do me any good?

A:Not Genuine

When you activate Windows, it creates a unique identifier, based on the current hardware.  When there is a significant change in hardware, the unique identifier is validate by M$, and if it is far enough off, it become invalid, and you have to reactivate it.
This should answer your questions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/activating-windows-faq#1TC=windows-7
Basically, reenter the key, and reactivate.

Best of luck!

Having upgrade from Win 7 pro to 10 and win 10 being activated since the 29th July, I decided to revert back to 7. Having removed the Windows.old from my drive I had to do a clean install. That's when the trouble started. I installed win 7 pro and tried to activate it, only to be told that my product number was blocked.

I have in front of me the boxed Windows 7 pro, bought a good few years ago with the legit product number.
So I contacted Microsoft only to be told that my product number was counterfeit. At no time was my copy anything other than genuine. In the system page it was always shown as a genuine Microsoft product.

So it looks like Microsoft has screwed me over. Just to be clear this Win 7 was purchased from a reputable dealer, no ebay or second rate sites.
So I'm snookered, I either stay with 10 or buy another copy of Win pro.

A:Genuine ID

Did MS tell you that your Win 7 key was outright counterfeit---which would mean that it was never legit, even months ago before you even considered Windows 10?

Or did they tell you that the Windows 7 key was simply blocked for an unknown reason? Or no longer valid although it may have been at one time?

I assume you talked to a human being? Did that one human make the decision on his own? I'm wondering if you'd have got a different result if you had lucked out and got someone else on the phone.

This is one of the things that keeps me reticent about Windows 10.

Too late now, but I wonder if an image restoration of your Windows 7 installation would have necessarily been successful.

About four months ago i put windows 7 64 bit ultimate, that i got from my roommate, on my computer. it has worked great for months and just a few minutes ago i went to my desktop, and my background had changed to black and there is now the words "Windows 7 Build 7600 This Copy of Windows is not genuine." Why did all of a sudden that pop up? is there away to either make it genuine or a way to make the words go away?

If Windows 7 is not legitimate, would making it legit require formatting the drive and doing a complete reinstall?  Or do I just buy a key and all is well?  Cost?

I have spent many hours looking for this information, which you'd think would be available right on Microsoft's website.  But it isn't.

A:maybe not genuine but then what?

You are using the well known stolen Lenova key to activate the current installation. The ONLY way to have a genuine installation is to purchase a genuine licence.

Appears I bought a non genuine copy of windows 7 ultimate. Vendor is not around any longer and looks like I am stuck. What happens if I contact microsoft. Am I going to have to buy a new version and uninstall this one or will they just sell me a key? Thanks.

A:Non genuine win 7

You are better off buying a new version (the key comes with it) since you can't be sure what else was on "bundled" with one you bought. Was it a disk, or a pre-installed Windows?

what is a Genuine product key

someone help me,
my computer,keeps saying that i am a counterfiet,and i need a genuine product key

A:What--genuine---what

It is the product key that came with authentic Microsoft software that has not been used on any other computer.

If you have a legitimate installation use the call in method to authenticate Windows (or other Microsoft Software)

Click start/programs/accessories/authenticate and it will give you two options - one to authenticate over the internet and if that fails it will give you toll free phone numbers to call.

If you do not authenticate Windows (or whatever other software it is) will shut down and become inoperable in 30 days.

I bought a Retail box of Windows 7 Pro for my wife's soon to be built pc.
The purchase was through Amazon and a company in Laguna Hills, Ca.
The price was decent and I've never had a problem with Amazon before so why not?
Got the package today in the mail and just opened it.
The upper edge of the blue Windows 7 cardboard sleeve is bent over and slightly separated. The shrink wrap is wrinkled in the same area.
Removing the plastic case from the cardboard holder I can see that the seal appears to be compromised.
There is a 'bar or line' which is part of the seal that is showing red except near the center, where it is silver.
Also, the squiggly line that runs the length of the seal along the words 'Win Pro 7 English US only DVD' seems to be slightly separated.
I've never dealt with anything like this before and could use some advice. Is there a way of using the numbers on that label to tell if this is genuine or should I try to get a new copy?
Thanks for any help.

So back in November or December the CPU fan of my HP Envy died and I had to take it to a shop and have it replaced. While I was there I also had the keyboard replaced as the space key had been broken.

I get the computer back and the techs had so nicely taken the time to run a virus scan, give my computer a tune up, and install windows updates. They felt my computer was 'running slow' and that I might have a virus.

... In the wake of getting my machine back I started getting notices that my copy of windows is no longer genuine.
But it is.

I went through some tech support with Microsoft where they went ahead and 'fixed' it only for it to happen again. I gave up and set the computer aside for six months, unable to fix the problem. Flash forward.

Apparently around that time there was a software release that made a bunch of windows copies show as not genuine. I install windows updates that happened in the month I just stopped dealing with this machine.

I called Microsoft and flailed and they confirmed that the code on the bottom of my computer is indeed a valid, genuine copy of windows. Because it is OEM I need to go to the manufacturer, HP, to get things fixed.

So I called HP. They want me to do a factory reset and/or run the recovery discs. Both of which will result in me COMPLETELY LOSING ALL OF MY DATA and resetting the machine back to factory default. This, of course, sounds like a load of bull to m... Read more

but when I try to start my second OS T: with win7 32-bit it will say
"Windows 7

This copy of Windows is not genuine"

Should I reinstall windows?
Can I still use my product key?

A:Not Genuine

Assuming you used a legit key from in the beginning, just re-enter it and activate again. Sometimes, significant system changes trip the activation.
