So, if the product code on the sticker on my computer doesn't work, am i screwed into buying a new one?

Check the code with the online ID checker, make sure you are reading it correctly, there should be no reason it doesn`t work.

I've bought an Asus Laptop last year with a genuine copy of windows 7 Home Premium. But, as of today, it has turned 'un-genuine'. Why is it so? What can I do?

There was a 5 page thread on trying to downgrade from Ultimate to Win 7 Pro but I thought I should start a new thread. I have a thead on a different forum but was hoping someone here might know the answer.

Users computer says Windows is not genuine, was 7 pro, in Sept 2013 we upgraded to Ultimate to use Bitlocker. System bought from Dell, used Anytime Upgrade to Ultimate. I spent ages on phone with Microsoft today, they have completely agreed both copies are valid, and the computer is saying they're not, in error, they will not admit that it's a Windows Update that caused it likely.

They took over remotely, and 30 minutes later gave up, none of the methods worked. She then advised me to BUY a copy of 8.1 and do a clean install. I don't want 8.1, if we have to reinstall I'd rather do Win 7 Pro again(same valid code) and then up to Ultimate again(same valid code), or go to Win 10 when it comes out. Of course you can't upgrade a "non genuine" copy of Windows 7 to win 10, even if it is in fact genuine.

We don't want to have to reinstall. MS also told me I need to downgrade to Win 7 Pro, put in the code, then upgrade to Ultimate. To do that they said I have to do a clean install. I've seen all the links to Windows Downgrader but we aren't exactly thrilled to be advised to use a 3rd party app. I have not tried the registry suggestions yet, I'm not particularly comfortable dealing with the registry. Two questions.

If MS had been willing to just give me a new U... Read more

Hi

I have an ASUS notebook (U31F i5 with 4 GB mem) which until recently I used only occasionally. It has Legit Office 2010, but no CD/DVD drive. My desktop hard disk crashed in a big way so I am using the notebook as my main computer.

It has just recently started throwing up messages that my Windows Homw Premium (x64) is not genuine. It is gebuine OEM and activated (back when I got the notebook), and I have not tampered in any way.

I have had a look at some other threads on this forum on this issue, and so have dowloaded and run MGAdiag.exe, but to my inexpert eye, it appears to report everything OK.

I have pasted text in below, and would welcome more expert advice as to whther I have missed something, and if not, what should I do next?

regards

Hello and thanks in advance to whoever can help me.

A couple of days ago I was downloading some video files and since I wasn't paying attention I clicked an .exe instead of a video file. I know this makes me the idiot, but I have beaten myself up over it for a while and cannot fix this myself so I am now humbly coming forward with my idiocy to get my Toshiba Qosmio back up and health. So here's the deal:

I got the popup that I wasn't running a genuine copy of Windows 7 64 bit Pro (which I am...came from the factory). Tried to resolve it online and the only answer I got was to buy another copy of Windows, which I don't really want to do. Then I tried to run Windows Update and I get random error codes as to why I can't. I tried a system restore and got a message that there is an error on my hard drive, to run chkdsk. Tried that, nothing. Even when Windows rebooted it wouldn't let me. So then I boot towards the safe mode menu and see an option for Windows Repair, choose that and click on system restore. I pick a restore point a week or so ago and try to restore. Negative. Got a message that not only could it not restore but now that restore point was damaged (hooray). Tried rebooting to that screen and all I get is black: pointer works with touch pad but not mouse. Tried booting into safe mode and I couldn't get explorer.exe to run and had no icons. Then rebooted to Last Known Good Configuration which is where I am now.

Hello, I am using an Acer Aspire 5738G, which originally came with Windows Vista Home Premium. Later I got the free Windows 7 Home Premium update disc and never encountered any problem.

But since the last 1 month or so, I've been getting this 'Windows not genuine' message on a random basis. Microsoft Security Essentials says that it will disable itself within 30 days if the issue is not resolved. When I click on 'Resolve issue', an IE window is opened and takes me to Microsoft's website. When I do all the steps explained, everything goes back to normal and my Windows is again considered as genuine.

I am a bit worried, although I can always solve the problem, it still irritates me when I see the 'Windows not genuine' message. What could be the cause of the problem and what is the solution?

Thanks in advance.

A friend of mine has a Windows XP Home Edition machine running Service Pack 2. She called me along this afternoon because she has been having problems with the machine for several weeks! Anyway this machine runs Norton Internet Security Center which was up to date as of a few weeks ago, but because of her problem it no longer seems able to complete its update process although she has 322 days left of her subscription. I tried several times but each time the update process terminated after doing some of the downloads. There is also an icon in her system tray area (right hand side) which refers to the non-genuine windows message and tells her to clickon it to resolve the non-genuine Windows problem.

The problem she has is that on boot up she gets a message saying that her version of Windows is not genuine (it is since it was supplied with the machine 4 years ago) and what is more it talks about Windows XP Professional whereas she has Windows XP Home. In addition to these messages which give her the option to resolve the problem now or later, she gets pop-ups at various times saying that her copy of Windows is not genuine, maybe counterfeit etc.

In addition when these problems started to occur she says she was no longer able to connect to the internet (she has a router and broadband) - I noticed that her connection was disabled so I re-enabled this and we can now connect to the Internet.

She also has problems with IE (think it is V8) whereby it comes up with an error aft... Read more

Hello all, and thank you for the oppurtunity to post.
I got a Pop-up, titled Microsoft Security Essential, which states I am infected by a Trojan. At the same time I was surprised to see a Windows Genuine notification , which stated that because I have made major changes since I first loaded Windows XP Pro, I now have to reactivate windows. Is this for real? The Microsoft notice will not go away no matter what I do, it sits in the middle of the screen and resists all efforts to close. If this is a Virus I am sure I will need Help in removing. Thanking you in advance,

I have a MSDNAA account where I downloaded my copy of Windows 7 Pro, so its genuine, but when my computer is idle for sometime, in the lower right corner of the screen, sometimes appears the "not genuine" text with "evaluation copy etc etc". I go to Control Panel - System, then windows activates itself again, turning genuine again. This happened two times, yesterday and today. Is this a bug or what?

My HP Pavilion dv6 laptop suddenly has decided Windows is not Genuine. I put in the number on the bottom of the laptop and it says it is verified and good. But then after a while it goes back to saying it is not Genuine. I am out of the country at the moment, and I need to fix this in the meantime. I do Slui 3 and fix it, because if I try to go online to do this it won't finish it up, it just sits there loading. I haven't had issues with this laptop at all otherwise. Been using it for years. Bought it brand new. I do have virus protection but I am beginning to wonder if this is a virus? Or something like that? You would think that after entering the right number and getting the yes this is valid that it would be fine?

Hi,

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Used since Win7 came out with no genuinity issues until now.

A short while after the SP1 update I started getting popups claiming my Windows is not genuine. I know for a fact that my Windows is genuine.

Properties show my Windows is activated. I have activated both online and by phone yet the popup still keeps appearing. The MGA diagnostics show that there is a tampered file and apparently it is causing the validation to flag my system as not genuine:

I have tried to fix this for a while now. The file seems to be associated with MUI packages and Something called Vistalizator.

I have checked the registry and there are no MUI's. US-EN only. I do not have anything called Vistalizator.

I am rather frustrated with googling in microsoft pages as they all lead to the Vistalizator and MUI packs but I don't have them so the fix does not apply.

I recently downloaded SP1 to my Windows 7 machine and shortly thereafter a message appeared on the lower right hand corner indicating that "Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of windows is not genuine". I bought this machine used and so I verified the key with Microsoft and it is a genuine OEM key but try as I may there is nowhere to enter a product key. I go to start-computer-right click- and at the bottom under Windows Activation it states Status: Not Available - Product ID: Not Available and NO place to enter a product key. Also all of the DOS commands that I can find on the Net do not seem to work either. When I contact Microsoft support they are no help at all and tell me I need to do a CLEAN install with the disk that came with my machine. The only problem is that no disk came with this machine. I have also been told by "Tech support" since I have an OEM key I just cannot use ANY install win 7 disk. I have a TON of Apps. loaded on this machine and it TICKS me off that I have a VALID OEM key and seemingly no way to enter or fix which I suspect is a Microsoft bug to begin with as they have overshot to prevent piracy. Someone Please help!

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine, but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

I had a non-genuine copy of Ms Office installed on my computer, and have now purchased a genuine copy. Uninstalling the old (non-genuine) copy is impossible because it doesn't have an uninstaller, and it doesn't even show in Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs. So I just installed my genuine copy in a different folder in Program Files, so that the non-genuine copy wouldn't interfere with the newly installed genuine copy.

The problem is that even though I tried opening Ms Word or Excel directly from the newly installed folder and not from the old link to the old version, it still gives me a message (like before) that says "Get Genuine Office - This copy of Office is not genuine".

How do I get rid of the old (non-genuine) Ms Office if I am unable to uninstall it? Please don't tell me to work on the registry - I don't want to touch the registry because I'm not a computer pro, and I won't know what I'm doing. I just want to get rid of the message that says get genuine Office.

I am using Windows XP Home.

Thank you

I have windows vista installed on C drive and on the other partition I have windows 7 installed and from time to time the windows genuine software thing pops up even though I have activated it before. I have several keys from windows 7 RC free download(personally mine). I have activated several times now.

The other annoying problem is I have ran windows update several times and everytime it either installs it or fails and rarely if it manages to install both the important updates, I will restart as it requests me to do but then windows update pops up again with the same two updates. This is really annoying. Is there a way to get rid of this?

I've read many posts relating to this problem and nothing seems to work. I bought my machine "used" from a former co-worker whom I can no longer get in contact with. I have no idea if he installed a genuine copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64. It's been fine for approx. 4 years but now gives me the "This copy of Windows may not be genuine" message. Below is a copy of the MGADiag report. If the copy of Windows is not genuine, at least I know what the next step is. Thank you in advance for checking.

A:This version of Windows may not be genuine problems

The installation is counterfeit.
You have an ACER Product Key installed onto an HP machine built apparently for Vista.
You need to reformat and reinstall using legitimate media and Key.

I have a newish computer (OS=Windows XP pro) which had viruses and problems due to blue screening, it stopped working altogether one day..
yesterday I had installed and formatted Windows home edition on it..
then it asked for a product key which i didnt have, i had asked about the product key some other place on the web which they had linked me somewhere for one, i wasnt sure.. but i took the code down
it worked and i logged in with my fixed computer, it had a popup saying it needed activating within 30 days and i couldnt get on the web either.
this is beginning to get pretty stressful as when it was working before it was genuine and i have no code nor a sticker to be located on the computer..
any ideas? :(

Hello - I have been using Windows 7 for two years now, but all of a sudden I am getting messages that the product is not genuine. After two years! Surely there has been a mistake somewhere as the product was succesfully activated when originally purchased, and used without problem since then... any ideas?
Thank you

Hello fusermarucs and welcome to the forums

Where did you purchase your Windows 7 license?

The license in use is from a MSDN subscription which have very strict usage requirements. Unless you obtained this key from an employer, educational institute or your MSDN/TechNet subscription, your license is counterfeit.

Okay, so
I'm trying to remove Windows Genuine Advantage from my system.
I think it just updated a few days ago, that's when it started pestering me, anyway.

I've read lots of how-to articles and nothing's worked. when I run command prompt and try to kill the task "wgatray.exe" it says it isn't found. there's no Winlogon folder in my registry which is what I'm supposed to be deleting. not running in my task manager processes. even when I search my computer for anything WGA-related, I get no results.

what's the deal? it's clearly on my computer, but where?
has anyone had any luck with any WGA removal software? I know there are several free options but it seems a little risky, I'd rather tinker with it myself.

edit: I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I did a clean install myself several weeks ago and it's worked fine until just a few days ago.

I had a trojan a week ago. Well, I appeared to get rid of it, but I still have two main problems. The first one is that it says "This copy of Windows is not genuine" in my lower right corner. It also constantly pops up. I register online, and even on the automated phone system, and it never works. It is in use, it says.My second problem is when I search. Say I choose Google and search for "Mustang". Well, all the search results listed are correct, but any that I click goes to spam.I ran Hijack This and these are my results:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2

I have a laptop with Windows 7 Home Basic OEM pre-installed, it was genuine and had COA on the bottom of laptop.
Accidentally, at that time I was 12 years old, so I don't know about 'crack', 'hack', software counterfeit, etc. . Thus, I thought my Windows was 'low', I want to upgraded it to Windows 7 Ultimate version with Windows Anytime Upgrade.

I searched key generator (keygen) on internet, I found it and generated the code (for Windows 7 Ultimate). Then, I pasted the serial number (product key) to Windows Anytime Upgrade. First, it was failed. So I cancelled the upgrade. But, when the laptop's shutdown and I turn it on again, it was upgrading to the Windows 7 Ultimate. How weird!

Now, I know the pirated / not genuine Windows is not safe, against the law, etc.

My question, is, I restored it to the genuine version of my Windows (7 Home Basic OEM) using my product key.
But I downloaded the setup using the Windows 7 Ultimate pirated (using keygen) that I told you...
Is my Windows become 'not genuine'?
After I restored it, It is very good, clean, doesn't contain virus or error, works perfectly. Then I upgraded it to Windows 10 Home.
Is it okay? Or I should buy the DVD to perform clean install so it is 100% clean?

Need your opinion, please...
Thanks

I booted up my computer, and saw in the bottom right hand corner of the screen it said Windows 7 not genuine error 7601. I was unable to open any applications except google chrome, and battle.net. it says i am not connected to any network and i am limited in my use of the internet. i can google questions, but i cannot play videos. when i click on an application, the process will show but the app wont run. i try to run it as administrator but that doesnt work either. i tried running my computer in safe mode with command prompt and from there i was able to run chkdsk /r which got rid of the not genuine build 7601 error but i still cant open any applications. i tried looking for the installed updates, but the updates wont show and are stuck loading. i tried restoring my system but there were no restore points. i tried using ms fix it but when i open the file it just loads and the windows installer pops up and says preparing to install and stay like that. i am unable to run command prompt as administrator or anything as administrator. i cannot create a shortcut to my desktop and elevate it to use as administrator either. nothing seems to be working

Hi,

So ive searched the forums here and cannot see anyone who's had this problem yet so here goes.

My problem is whenever Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool is used it hangs my pc. firstly explorer starts to hang window by window until nothing responds not even task manager and i have to hard reset. I first experienced this when i tried to install the new IE7 beta a week ago, whenever it went to validate my copy of windows the pc would hang and i would have to reboot.needless to say i didnt install it, Now whenever auto update decides it needs to contact microsoft it hangs my pc. Now ive turned off auto update to get round this for now but im wondering what on earth could be the problem.. I know 100% i am genuine with XP and i turn off sygate firewall and symantec antivirus 10 and close as many process as i can this still happen. Ive run a scannow /sfc and that didnt come up with any errors. couold anyone point me in the right direction with this.. I am a tech support guy for a company so im pretty up on stuff but this one is new to me, ive searched the internet with not much luck and apart from this my system is 100% condition. all drivers up to date temp folders clean. no spyware.. etc etc I am 99.99% sure its the new validation process thats causing this..

Many thanks

A:Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool Big Problems

This is a stab in the dark, . . try this:

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Windows Genuine Advantage\data . . .

Delete or rename the data folder . . reboot and go to Windows Update and let it download again.

If that somehow was corrupted, it might install again.

Hello,
Im in a trouble, so im hoping that you will help me.
I had a genuine windows 7 for a laptop a while ago, then i sent the laptop to my parents in a different country.
So i bought a new pc, without a operating system, driven by a lack of money i downloaded the old not genuine xp. Along came problems, unknown errors, bugs, etc.
Like for example, now i cannot start safe mode, i cannot make a new partition thru cmd or partition magic cause of somekind of file xmnt.exe is missing.
Sadly, i want to keep my bought games and programs, 'cause my internet is pretty slow, so it will take for ages to redownload/reinstall everything.

The question is: Can i upgrade my not genuine windows xp to windows 7 by buying it and installing like it's a common program keeping all of the programs/games/etc.?

Thank you in advance.

A:Upgrade not genuine windows xp to genuine windows 7.

Sadly if you are looking to regain stability your best bet would be a fresh install of windows 7
Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

as outlined there you can do a fresh install with the upgrade disc, this would result in the loss of your games and programs, though do a straight upgrade from xp to win 7 without cleaning out the garbage is just going to make win 7 run horribly too.

Hi, I have started having activation issues and not genuine warnings after nearly 3 years of using my PC. Here is my current situation.

When I am connected to the internet,

Computer > Properties shows "Windows Activated" and the Genuine MS logo.
MGADIAG shows "License Status: Licensed"

When I am disconnected from the internet,

Computer > Properties shows "3 days until automatic activation. Activate Windows Now"
MGADIAG shows "Additional grace period (KMS license expired or hardware out of tolerance)"

I use this PC as a DAW (i.e. strictly for music production). It is disconnected from the internet for long periods of time. I am seriously worried about this activation issue I can't overstate how worried I am.

Here's the history

Sep 2010
I bought an i7-930 PC desktop, Windows 7 Professional x64 OEM on a disk (not preinstalled), and SSD from one of the most reputable computer stores. I installed the SSD, and then installed Windows 7 and activated without a hitch. From Sept 2010 to 15 Aug 2013, I had no activation or genuine copy warnings. 3 years.

July 2013
I upgraded from my 60GB SSD to 240GB SSD by copying the 60GB to 240GB, and there were no problems. I then upgraded from 6GB to 18GB RAM. Again no issues. Do I need to rebuild license store because it's a new SSD disk? Again, I had absolutely no issues after this.

15 Aug 2013
I installed a TI Chipset firewire PCI card. This is how the problem started. Immediately... Read more

oh yeah, also malwarebytes failed to start up for me to check for viruses but i believe i was able to fix that when I ran winthresher.

Steps taken;
-unplug replug of Computer, modem, router
-sfc /scannow
-winthresher DLed on different computer.
-a few hours of the Chrome dinosaur run
-Download ipconfig.dll files online
-MSCONFIG

Update: using the MSCONFIG i disabled all services on boot but the Microsoft ones, and stopped all start up apps, restarted pc and now the wallpaper is solid black

I recently discovered that the Office on my computer was not genuine, so I bought a genuine one from the Microsoft's site, which I installed hoping that things will be fine. However, even after installation, every time I open up Outlook, Words...the same pop up comes up saying that the programme installed is not genuine.

I contacted customer care in the USA, and they were able to identify that I have 2 versions running on my machine. They suggested removing one (?or both) Office 2007, and then install the genuine one. However, to do this would be rather disastrous as I had finally got together my outlooks and its many many many emails. I donít want to start afresh and lose all my emails.

I need to contact the UK customer service, but it is a telephone number, so I will try to call them from work. In the meantime, does any clever person have any idea on a solution?

Many many thanks

Linda

A:Problems with Office 2007- 2 versions running (1 genuine, but not the other 1)

you should able to backup you emails, on older versions I would suggest you just copy the PST file, however, on 2007 I think they use a ost - so not sure about that...

I will try and lookup 2007 outlook backup
EDIT
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287070/en-us
above is a link to an article to backup 2007

I have already carried this out on 2007
I exported 2007 to a new PST file and then copied that to a different machine and imported as a datafile on 2003 - this was just as a data file, so I have not checked the contacts etc, as I said its imported as a data file - so i have all the emails

I suddenly started getting the not genuine message and couldn't install updates any longer (error code 80080005). I noticed that my product key wasn't the same as the one on my laptop tag but when I tried changing it, it said it doesn't seem to be valid (which it is- I bought it as a return from BestBuy). I've tried every fix I can find online w/out success. When I tried slmgr.vbs /ato, it said the KMS service is unavailable. I've been using SLMGR -REARM but I only have 2 rearms left & still couldn't download or install updates anyways (I couldn't even install the system update readiness tool from MS), so I was thinking of maybe using WGA Remover from major geeks. On a side note, I've never been able to use any of Windows backup options except for being able to create restore points. I can't create a system image, system repair disc, or a full backup and gave up on that long ago after months of trying (I backup everything on a separate HD). Anyways, thanks for your help & here's my info:

A:"windows not genuine" problems

Hi Die Microsoft, welcome to the Forum.

Your Windows operating system is a KMS Client version, that is designed for companies that buy a key from Microsoft so they can use it on multiple computers. It is not for home users.

So unfortunately yours is an illegal installation. You should take the laptop back to Best Buy explaining the problem & tell them you are reporting them to Microsoft & you expect a full refund of the purchase price.

For more information on KMS Client versions you can read through this Wikipedia website.

Can someone please help?

PS: My desktop has turned black, with the exception of the shortcuts for the programs.

A:My Windows 7 says not genuine!?!?!?

Two ways you can do this.

Click your start orb -> Right click My Computer -> Click properties. Scroll the whole way down and there should be your windows serial key. If there is an activation issue, there should be a hyperlink that activates it for you.

If that doesn't work, and alternatively.

Genuine Microsoft Software

Go there, download the software and run it.
Edit: Desktop turning black is normal, depending on your resolution there should be a warning saying "This version of windows is not legitimate".

If this is all that's needed to fix up the situation, I'd suggest running your personal preference of anti-virus or anti-malware to make sure you don't have something that's removing windows files. Odds are though, an update probably just installed wonky.

I accidentily installed the Genunine Advantage crap, then I turned of the notifications using IE, the tray icon way. Their is a tray icon that won't go away and everytime I end the process another tray icon pops up (same one). Non of the cracks I have seen are working, what do I do?

This is the Corperate version of XP Pro, and is NOT pirated.

A:Windows Genuine

Sounds like you have Automatice Updates turned on. Go to Start>Control Panel>System, click on Automatic Updates Tab and check the box that says Turn off Automatic Updates. This will get rid of the annoying tray icon pop-up.
If for some reason the Automatic Updates option is greyed out take a look here http://windowsxp.mvps.org/aupolicy.htm.

i installed windows 7 on a partition on my hard drive so i could dual boot xp and windows 7 just in case i didn't like windows 7 this partition was made using
EASEUS PARTITION MASTER (if it really matters)

everything was fine i resized the partition from 20gb to 40gb
after doing so i restarted my pc to boot into windows 7...everything went fine until i logged into my account to be met by and ugly blue colored background that said "this copy of windows is not genuine" and i also now had no task bar or start button.

so i opened up task manger clicked "new task" typed in "explorer.exe" and my task bar popped up in the original gray windows 95 theme i tried to click my computer but was met by an error that said "No such interface supported" i tried clicking everything in sight to only be met by the annoying error sound and statement quoted above

so i then decided to browse using task manager (which actually worked) and that is when i noticed that the drive letter in which windows 7 ultimate is installed on was now "D:" instead of the original "F:" i tried to open regedit/regedt32 a 1000 times to try an change the drive letter through there but is just wont open i just get an error like the one stated above

i pretty sure all i need to do is change my drive letter back to F: but it not as easy as i thought it would be i tried to change it through windows xp but that didn't work any ideas?

What 7 build did you install?
What are you hardware specs, enough to run Aero? Did you see Aero the first boot after the installation?

Hello, everyone.

I bought a second-hand Compaq notebook recently and was waiting to be able to come online with it. Now I am online I'd like to know how to find out if XP installed on it is genuine and updatable with Windows Update. I don't know whether or not I should use Microsoft's own programme to see if it is genuine or not in case it disables the OS if it's not. What should I do?

Thanks.

A:Genuine Windows XP

If this computer hasn't been activated you should be receiving a prompt to activate this copy of XP when you boot into the operating system.  If you aren't being prompted to do this I would have to believe that this is the original copy of Windows XP.  If the previous owner recently reinstalled the operating system you have 30 days to activate this copy.  After that your computer will only allow you to activate this copy when you boot into the operating system, you will not be able to do anything else.

On the bottom of the notebook there is a tag which contains the 25 alphanumerical product key, this is the key which is used to activate this computer.

Hi, I am having this same issue and tried the steps here. I don't see the KB3004394 in my updates list, so it either never installed or was pulled by Win Update (if it can do that). Still getting this Window despite everything. Does anyone have other ideas as to what might be causing this problem?

A:Windows 7 Not Genuine

First of all - welcome to BC !

Probably the simplest thing for you to do is to try activating your copy of Windows again. You will need your COA, the 25 digit alpha-numeric string that should be on a sticker on your computer somewhere. Click 'Start - control panel - System' and you should see a link 'Activate Windows'. If this doesn't work for you then you will need to give MS  a call. If this screen doesn't give you a free-phone number, google MS activation and you will find the number. It is usually a free call.

If this doesn't work, post back.

The installation is a classic counterfeit.
the infamous Stolen Lenovo Key, installed on a Dell machine and using an HP SLIC table in an attempt to bypass activation/validation requirements.
You need to reforma and reinstall with the original OS that shipped with the machine - probably Windows 8 - or purchase a legitimate copy of Windows 7 and clean-install that.

I've been using my laptop for about six months and just now, out of completely no where my windows is not genuine. I seriously don't know what just happened. I will admit, I have pirated Windows Ultimate, but never on this laptop. I don't pirate windows and stuff like that on this laptop. Why in the world, would it out of no where tell me it's not genuine when it is, and has been ever since I bought my laptop?

On this Laptop it's Home Premium and I didn't pirate it. Like I said before, if I would've pirated windows I would've pirated Ultimate, not Home Premium.

A:Windows is not Genuine?

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/234159-windows-genuine-activation-issue-posting-instructions.html
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Hello,

I have had some problems with my computer lately. Currently my desktop background is showing up as a black screen and in the lower right-hand corner there is this message:

"Windows 7

This copy of Windows is not genuine"

I got this computer (new) when I enrolled at my University and all the software installed is genuine, so I don't know why I am getting this message.

Please help, I don't know what to do

A:Windows 7 not genuine?

Hello,

Please see the very useful information contained here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/genuine/faq

Basically what I would do is contact microsoft, and tell them your situation, they may be able to activate your computer for you and get you on your way. If not then I would contact the university and ask them.

See this link on how to activate over the phone, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/activate-windows-7-on-this-computer Scroll down the the section that says activate over the phone.

Mmk, So recently I've been recieving these messages telling me that I may be a victim of piracy and that I did not pass the Windows genuine version test. This meaning that I may have a pirated copy of windows. However I know for a fact this isn't true.

I was just wondering if there might be some settings on, or there might be some trouble shooting I might have to do to get it to work. Basically whatever someone might think is a plausible reason as to why I didnt pass the "Windows Genuine Inspection" test.

Thank you in advance!

I have never received this before I have a retail version of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and I have already spoke to Microsoft and they determined my Key is legit(but were not much help from there) My machine is one that Ive built. Ive had this Key on hear for over a year. The first thing I did was go to Start>Computer>Properties> Where it should say Windows Activation code it is blank and does not have a "change" button. I went next to installed updates to remove the verification update and it says " No updates are installed on this computer." Ive tried the CMD promt "slmgr.vbs -ipk <type your product key here>" and it gave me Error 0xc004F016.

I really need some help on this one, If I have to reinstall my OS I will. I should have made an Image before now so that this wouldn't be a problem. Any help Would be nice I will Copy the data from MGADiag in after it runs. Thanks!!

Hi,

I'm getting indications that my Windows 7 Pro x64 software is not genuine. I've contacted Microsoft four times and they have confirmed the license and reactivated my already activated system.

I believe their reactivation efforts caused a corrupted slui.exe file, that was resolved in the below thread.

If you do own a legitimate copy, give MS a ring to reactivate.

I bought my HP laptop from Best Buy with windows 7 already installed. It is now claiming that windows 7 is not genuine and needs to be reactivated. I don't have a product key to activate it since it came already activated. I don't really know what to do. Is there any information I should give you guys to help out? My windows 7 version is actually home premium 64 bit.

Thanks in advance.

Hey guys!

Ok so back in 2009 I had purchased an ASUS notebook for my girlfriend. This was around the time Windows 7 was about to come out and PC companies were offering free upgrade discs for some computers preinstalled with Windows Vista. We qualified for one and received an upgrade a few weeks later.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago. She was having issues with her laptop so I decided to restore to factory settings. I reinstalled Windows 7 with the same upgrade disc after restoring back to Vista. Now a month later, she's getting errors saying the copy is not genuine unless she enters a product key.

The problem is, there is no key on the CD and she thinks she threw out all the papers that came with the disc.

So now, of course, it's up to me to figure something out.

I just called the Microsoft activation team. The first guy couldn't figure out what to do. Transferred one level above. Still no help. He told me ASUS has they're own product key and gave me a number to contact them.

Called ASUS. No help of course. Was told to buy a restore CD but I don't see how that would help.

Sooo now I'm stuck. Either I purchase a restore disc or a new product key, which I'm trying to avoid since money is tight, or I go back to Windows Vista, which I'm also trying to avoid.

I was hoping somebody would have some advice on what to do!

A:Windows 7 "Not Genuine"

The only option is to go back to Windows Vista, as Windows 7 Home Upgrade is about 99 dollars.

My mother-in-law somehow has messed up her windows and constantly gets the not genuine windows message in the lower corner of the screen. She has an HP and windows 7. She also has the product key. Do I tap F8 at boot-up to go into safe mode and reapply windows? I need a step-by-step-how-to-apply course. I think I just follow the questions...right? Help. I don't remember it being so hard to put the key code in for a repair back in the days of win xp, I hope 7 is as easy.

Hi, Just downloaded MS updates today, and I am getting the message that Win 7 is not genuine. I read another thread that all that was needed to solve this was a Genuine Product code. I am going to purchase the code, but I can not find the place to update the code in my existing Win 7. I followed the directions in this thread, http://forums.techguy.org/windows-7/926395-windows-7-not-genuine.html, the ones posted by Triple6.
Has the process to legitimize the product changed?
Do I have to reinstall Win 7 to correct this?
And MS wants nearly $300 for the product on line, while I can purchase the version I want elsewhere at considerable savings. So, if I purchase the product from another source am I into a reinstall?

Hi,

My Pc was recently struck by lightning and I had to install a new mother board. Windows XP is now saying it is not genuine and I want to re enter my product key but it won't allow me. I can't access my C drive either as it is saying it is not accessible. I think this may be the problem. Can any one tell me how to access my C drive. I have tried Jelly bean finder to re enter my Product key but it did not work.

I had to replace the hard drive on the comp I/we fixed for my buddy. He bought it new but doesn't have an XP disk. I loaded a copy of XP Media Center and was going to input the key code from the COA on the side cover of his machine. WELL...the CD I borrowed from a friend was a "9 in 1" and when I loaded Media Center it flew right by the key entry portion of the installation! So I figure I would do the right thing and run updates, this checks Windows Genuine and of course it failed. I expected this. So I downloaded the Key Update Tool_enu.exe and "woe is me" I doesn't support Media Center apparently!!! So now, there are warning boxes saying you may be the victim of counterfit software popping up on start-up and in the task bar there is the Windows Genuine logo. I wanted to do this right and figured I could input his number after the install! Anyone know if there is a way to put in the key code after the fact or a way to get Microsoft to validate this copy?
It's a good thing I don't get tired of learning...cuz there is soooooomuch more to learn and sooooo little time left! I could NEVER learn it all! I started way too late! LOL!

Thanks,
Andy

A:Windows Genuine

This is a somewhat sticky thread. As it is clearly obvious that you used an illegal copy of XP in order to install and we can't be of any assistance to criminals, you are nevertheless trying to make it legal. So I'll offer some advice before closing this thread.

Here are some references in how to put in the product key. But the chances are that the version of XP that was on that machine was an OEM version with a product key that was part of a series licensed to the manufacturer. If that is the case, then only versions of XP from that manufacturer will accept the key on the machine. You will need to buy recovery CD's from the machine's maker.

You may need to call Microsoft to authenticate the installation.

Did the tech leave the product code for this installation?

A:Windows 7 Pro MS indicates Not Genuine

Where did you get Win7?

Did it come preinstalled on your PC as there should be a COA sticker affixed with shows the licensed version and can be used to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If so I'd reinstall the Product Key now at Computer>Properties activation link.

If you bought a retail copy the "OEM" in Product ID means it likely is a pirated bootleg copy. I would ask for my money back, or contact MS Customer Service which has a program to provide a replacement copy for those who cooperate with investigating piracy.

A:Windows 7 not genuine

Try these one by one:

1) Where it says, "Go online to resolve....", do so, many a times that solves the issue.

2) In installed windows updates (look in left pane of Programs anf Features->View Installed updates), locate kb971033 (thats WAT), uninstall it, if it lets you. Reboot, then go to the microsoft genuine website and let it install WAT and validate.

3) Sudden random non genuineness can also be the result of a permissions issue in a registry key. Follow the steps here.

4) If none of this works, download and run mgadiag.exe tool.

Click on the Copy button, paste to notepad, save as text file and upload it here.

5) As a last resort, you call call MS.

For some reason all the settings are the same as the Business settings, I mean even the wallpaper changed...Now I cant even go to the control panel on 7 since it says that explorer.exe isn'r running but in the task manager it is.

As I said above, it is considered not genuine.\

I put the disc in and ran the startup repair, which it found problems and fixed them but the same problems still occur. My Windows Vista Home Premium has not been affected by this at all, still runs great without a hitch, no setting changes either.

Any advice would be great, if a reinstall is needed, I will just remove it from the pc. If that would be necessary how would I delete that partition even with a windows installation on it?

I know people have posted here their Windows install not being genuine, but what's bugging me is that I installed this when 7 first came out for retail. If some pillock is selling a serial number to someone else 6 months after me, why am I being penalised? If that is not that case, why is a number that was genuine for six months suddenly not genuine now?
As far as I can tell, I could give Microsoft another $300 now, and then have the number declared "not genuine" in another 6 months or so.
If the serial was genuine then, how can it not be genuine now?

A:Not genuine Windows.

Calm down. Where did you buy your copy from? Is it a retail version bought from a store? In that case it would have come in a nice packaged box. Or is it an MSDN key bought off Ebay? Or something else?

No. While they may nag you, they do not make your current OS not genuine.

Did you reinstall your operating system? When was it last working properly and did you install anything between that time and the time that you started getting that window? Did you just install Microsoft Updates?

You have to give as much info as you can.
