Establishing a USB connection from tablet to desktop

Q: Establishing a USB connection from tablet to desktop

I bought a Tablet PC on ebay running a copy of 7 ultimate evaluation for tablet and I'm trying to establish a connection between the tablet and desktop Pc running vista to transfer files. The USB data transfer cable I bought isn't recognised and I was wondering if there was a driver I could download so the PC's recognise each other. Thanks.

Hi and welcome

Am I missing something or do you just want to share files between the 2 pc's?

Hello good people of techguy

I've just formatted my hd, and I'm back to the newest version of Windows XP. I'm currently connected through my WLAN, since I can't seem to be able to establish my LAN connection.

My PC is connected through a LAN cable to the Router, which is connected to the modem in turn.
Now Windows Help says that all LAN connections are established automatically. Furthermore, when I try to create a new connection with the wizard, and I choose permanent broadband connection, it says the connection is already active and ready to be used - yet it is nowhere to be found.

This is what my "Networks" or "Network connections" (whatever it's called in English) in Control Panel looks like. As you can see, Wireless Connection (= "Draadloze netwerkverbinding") is listed, and LAN is nowhere to be found.

A preemptive thanks guys!

A:Establishing LAN Connection @ XP

something's missing in your screenshot. 'Local Area Connection' (or whatever it's called in Dutch) is not shown here.

check your device manager and see if your Network Controller is listed, you may have to install the drivers.

Hello, I have a friends computer that was hit by a few viruses. Spyfalcon and spy trooper were two of them. I believe I have removed the viruses but cannot connect to the internet with his computer hooked up at my house. I am using his modem. When I type ipconfig/all it gives me an IP address. Can someone please give me a few more ideas as to what i am doing wrong or how I can re-establish his connection. When I try internet explorer it just says cannot find server....And at the bottom it says something about a dns error. Thanks

A:Re-establishing an internet connection.

can you post the ipconfig /all
and some makes and models of router/modem/PC etc

TWO Methods to do that - some people have problems with ONE----

ONE ---------------------------------
start
run
cmd
ipconfig /all

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

TWO -----------------------------------------------

Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

NEXT lets see if you can get out onto the internet with both names and IP's - its possible the IP number you get back on the first test is different to the one I post {I'm in UK} so use the number you get instead of mine

------------------------------------------------
try ping the name and then the IP see below

start
run
cmd

C:\Documents and Settings\wayne>ping {the default gateway ipaddress you got above }

Hello all, I have been having the following issue with my router for quite some time.

My ISP is Comcast and my cable modem was provided by them (manufactured by Scientific-Atlanta), and the router I am using is a Belkin F5D7230-4.

When I directly connect my computer to the cable modem, the internet works like a charm. However, upon connecting via the router, the internet does not work at all. The weird thing is, all the lights on both the modem and router are normal, and the laptop picks up the signal from the router, but still, the internet does not work.

I have called tech support multiple times to no avail, and two technicians from Comcast came to my home and achieved absolutely nothing.

Does anyone have any suggestions or comments as to what may be the problem and/or what I can try to fix it? Thank you for your assistance!

A:Router Not Establishing Connection

My guess is that the problem is either

a. You did not unplug the modem, change the connection from computer to router, and then plug in the modem again, and finally plug in the router; or

b. Your modem is a modem/router combo with the same LAN address (192.168.2.1) as the Belkin router.

What is the model of the modem?

With computer connected to the modem ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hi all, I need some help with Ghost 7.5. I have been using my desktop as the ghost cast server connected to a switch, and connecting other machines to the same switch. In version 7, I had no problems establishing the connection between them. I am using our network's DHCP server to provide the IP addresses. However, in version 7.5 it gets to the point where it says "Establishing TCP connection" and it just hangs. I haven't changed anything other than the version of Ghost that I am using. Any ideas on what might be causing the problem? Symantec provides no information on this other than to say to modify the "wattcp.cfg" file, which you don't need if you are using a DHCP server to assign IP's (right?) I have been using Ghost for about 2 years now, and this is the first time I've ever had this problem.

Hello,

I'm afraid I'm terrible with computers, so I wanted to apologise in advance.

I have just bought an acer extensa 5420 and have installed vista home premium.

I cannot establish a lan cable connection.

Under "manage network connections" the lan connection does not show up. Only "broadband connection."

If anyone can help me, I would be deeply greatful.

Best, Susan

A:establishing a lan connection and vista problem

Sounds like you need to install drivers for your LAN, was this pre-installed? Do you have a "utilities" disk or something similar? Best bet is to go to the manufacturers support site and download the LAN or NETWORK drivers then install them.

I am surprised the LAN drivers are seemingly missing in your Premium installation though?

Hi,

Just want to learn a bit more-

Bought a new HP running W7 Home Premium, 64 Bit.
No Router, just hooked up to Comcast Broadband via their modem.
During the initial setup, had a devil of a time with it asking, several times, for Passwords, Log On names, etc.
Finally, established a connection, and all is fine.

Bought my son a HP PC as a birthday present.
Set it up yesterday.
He has a Router, as his wife also accesses their account with her laptop.
He uses Verizon.

The setup never asked for Any passwords to their Verizon internet account; really surprised.

Established an internet connection immediately.
How come ?

Are the Passwords to their Verizon account stored on the Router ?
Or,...?

Thanks,
Bob

Hi bob and welcome

Of the four or five types of broadband access only one requieres a user name and password. the others "know" the computer from it IP. Verizon FIOS knows because of its direct connection that that router is yoours.

I am running W7 64bit on a 2-year-old Dell Latitude 3540. We have a wired connection and for security I use Eset 9. I am having problems with some web pages being slow to load and in Chrome this is accompanied by a "establishing secure connection" message. It does not affect all pages. These are the things I have done:

> Different browsers (IE / Firefox / Chrome) - all seem affected
> Rebooted router
> Checked on another computer (all ok)
> Cleared cache and cookies in Chrome and run it "incognito"
> Switched off IPV6 and redefined DNS settings
> Flushed DNS cache
> Run without Eset enabled
> Checked internet connection speed and ping (ok)
> Run endless scans (Eset and Housecall) all ok

None of the above seems to work and otherwise the laptop is working fine. Does anyone have any other suggestions please? Please bear in mind that I am not technical.

Many thanks

Hi. I already have a Desktop (Running XP) connected to the internet with an Ethernet. I also have a laptop that is connected to that same internet connection through a wireless router (also running XP). I want to file share and have the printer that is connnected to the laptop be able to serve the laptop remotely, but all of the articles I have read on the internet seem to deal with setting up hardware and making the connection to the internet -- and I think I have done both of those things already (though, maybe there is a problem there too). I have followed the networking application in the control panel and named my network and the computers in it,on both the desktop and the laptop, but that doesn't seem to have helped.

Any idea why it does that? it usually happens when I first try to enter a website, it gives me this message in the lower corner of the browser and it only enters the site after 10~ seconds or so. The site then loads for the next several hours(if entered continously) and then it 'forgets' the site and does so again.

It also happens when using IE(except it doesn't display the message due to the browser's UI, it simply takes several seconds before loading said site).

This started happening after I format my pc.

I've tried it in Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox and it still doesn't work. I have disabled Anti virus, deleted cookies, I've tried a lot of different things, still can't get it to work. I mainly use Chrome and when I try to load it, I noticed it says "Establishing Secure Connection" down the bottom. And I also just noticed it said that when I was loading gmail too but that loads fine. That never used to come up, is there anyway to fix this? Because Facebook works fine on windows 7 on other computers within my house. Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I recently had loads of trouble with my Dell Inspiron 6400 (about two years old) so I decided a reformatting would be the best option for solving the multitude of problems it had.

Unfortunately, I lost the CDs that came with the laptop so I bought a new version of Windows XP Home Edition (it came with SP2, if that helps).

The reformat was successful and everything's fresh and clean and runs nice and fast (just like new). Here's my issue: because there's absolutely nothing on the PC (no standard software, no drivers, etc.) it doesn't seem to want to connect to the wired network offered by my campus. I haven't tried any of the wireless networks, but there's also no "Connect To" option in the Start Menu (which is what I always used to use to establish a wireless connection).

Please, please if anyone could assist me I would truly appreciate it. Thanks.

Establishing SPP Bluetooth connection between a laptop with Win7 and HC-05 BT Receiver

Hello,

I am trying to implement BT btwn a laptop running Win7 with Arduino IDE, and a BT device called an HC-05. The HC-05 is located at and powered by a remote Arduino UNO board. I'm doing this for the first time, and am also new to Arduino.

I am looking for someone with some experience in setting up Serial Port Profiles for Bluetooth devices.

Some Details:

When the HC-05 BT receiver is powered on by the Arduino a red led flashes at about 2Hz. If I go to My Bluetooth Devices in Win7, I select Add Device and choose All as the type. The HC-05 appears and Win7 reports it was installed successfully, although in the list of devices Device Type says unknown. If I open services I see Serial Port Profile (SPP) only. If I double click it it says Service action in progress for about 30 s, then an error says Device failed to respond. At this point the HC-05 device red led now flashes slower about 0.5 Hz. If I now double click on the SPP again I get the error: "No more com ports can be created for this device." If I rt click the SPP icon I get one option - to "Create Port", but the same error occurs.

If I investigate with Device Manager: under "Ports" I see 3 ports listed, copies that say Bluetooth SPP Driver with COM1,2,3 shown. The third has a exclamation icon on it, under properties/status it says "This device is not working properly because Windo... Read more

Greetings,

I recently ran into a fatal error with my hard drive and needed to replace it for my Sony VAIO laptop. Upon receiving and successfully mounting the new drive (and formatting the disk thereafter), I managed to download and install some necessary drivers with success, specifically the audio and video drivers. However, I am having some difficulty in reaching the internet, simply because there is not a known wireless connection (I think that when we had originally bought the laptop, it was already configured with a wireless setup, but I cannot be certain). Our router is a NETGEAR, but we never had to install the wireless NETGEAR software on the laptop. Instead, with the pre-existing wireless system, it simply detected routers in range and provided a list of these available networks. From there, we would commonly select NETGEAR and enter the necessary password key. The problem that I am currently facing is that I cannot access the list of available networks.

The model of this laptop is a Sony VAIO VGN-FS740/W, and we bought it in 2005.

I would greatly appreciate any help that you can provide.

Hi,
Please go to Windows Service manager, run "services.msc", then Look for the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager and Remote Access Connection Manager to see if those two services have been started. If not, set them to automatic start, reboot the machine,
and install\configure NetExtender again.
Since this is a third party application, it's recommended to contact the application vender to check the compatibility with Windows 8.1\IE 11, because they're more familiar with the application.

You guys have never let me down, I'm googled out and cannot figure out what is really causing this problem.
My niece has this cheap ass android tablet and suddenly it cannot connect to our network.

-For many months it connected to our secured network just fine, I even tried a complete factory restore on the tablet. It is a netgear 300 router

-I have cancelled and forgot the network, and then went ahead and reentered the network password. It shows clearly that it is connected to the network and there are no authetication issues. BUT ... it will not pull up a web page. getting web page not found error.

-The tablet does show in the wireless devices section of the router settings.

-the ONLY time I have gotten to pull up a web page was by going into the router settings and unchecking this thing called QoS. There was this multimedia setting right at the top... I disabled it, applied the setting than all of a sudden it pulled up a webpage.

-But... shortly after, it didnt connect to a page. Going back and enabling that QoS setting, applying ect. made it work properly... Its so strange because it almost didnt matter what setting you choose will allow it find a webpage... and it is more the physical making of the change is what made it be able to pull up a web page.

-Unfortunately, it is not really fixing the problem, because after a period of time the tablet goes back to the original problem .... shows is connected, but won't pull up a web page.

I have a Acer tablet and I am unable to use IE to connect to the internet through my cable modem. I have an active LAN connection with a valid IP address, but in the LAN properties dialog box, a valid submask is not present and it says something like automatic private address.

When I open IE, it's not picking up the LAN connection. The only connection it's picking up is a PPPOE connection which I've never used and am not sure how to use. Whenever I try to add a new broadband connection, it does not let me choose my network adapter, it simply defaults to PPPOE and I can't change it.

I would appreciate it if someone could help me figure out why IE isn't letting me choose my LAN connection. It's only letting me choose to connect via PPPOE.

Or more so, they way it normally connects to my laptop..

I just got back home from a hectic week of mid-terms and art projects at 'ol college, only to discover that both my internet AND tablet weren't connecting to my stupid [email protected]#@!! laptop.

Honestly, I'm ready to punch a few holes in the wall. The internet problem can be solved some other time, but the Wacom Tablet is just freaking puzzling me into insanity.

My stupid, piece of turd laptop is running on Windows Vista. Usually, my tablet connects to the computer and works with my driver just fine. But today, when I got home, I restarted my computer, with no harm intended, only to find that my computer has stopped recognizing my tablet and it's driver alltogether.

It's like it can't connect the driver to my tablet hardware anymore. When I plug it in, I get the "device failed to connect" sound. No matter how hard I try, I can't get the stupid thing to connect.

I reinstalled the driver a billion trillion times, but no dice. I've restarted my laptop a trillion gillion times, and STILL no dice. I've even used a seperate external USB hub, the ones with 4 extra ports. My computer finally recognized that I had plugged in my tablet, but then the "device setup" failed soon after.

I thought this was a hardware malfuction, but NOPE! I try it on a computer with XP in the house, and I get the tablet running fine in seconds.

I can live with the slightly awkward interface, but what I cannot live with is the painfully slow synchronization. Notes that I add on either the Windows desktop client or an iOS client does not sync across unless I manually click the Sync button. I can write a new note on my desktop, close the application, and my tablet never sees it until I go into the desktop app and deliberately click Sync. Even when it does its "automatic sync" and says "sync'd last 1 minute ago", notes written ten minutes ago still aren't synced.

I wonder if this is just by design or if there is some issue with Office 365. Does this work any better using Microsoft Accounts?

The speakers for my dell XPS 8500 computer and my dell latitude 10 tablet stopped working on the same day. My computer speakers had been plugged into the monitor and working fine since I got the computer a few months ago. Both the desktop and tablet run windows 8. I have tried dell tech support, but they can not seem to figure it out. I am concerned that since both went out on the same day it could be related. One reason I feel that it may be a single issue is that on one occassion (when I first setup my tablet) my tablet stopped responding and my desktop monitor entered and would not exit standy mode at the exact same time. If anyone has any idea on what could be the cause of the speakers not working on both my desktop and tablet please let me know. I am posting this hear in case its some kind of windows 8 networking issue.

A:Desktop and Tablet Speakers Stopped Working

Since both of your computers are Dells, did Dell support have you run their online diagnostics for your system hardware? The online diagnostics are very much like the PC Doctor based Dell Diagnostics that are likely already installed on both of your Dells. The advantage the online diagnostics have is that they are often more detailed and more up-to-date.

If they didn't have you run them yet, they are free for you to use to troubleshoot your computers. Here's the link to the diagnostics home page --- Dell PC Diagnostics | Dell US --- Note that you can choose which diagnostics to run: 1) all diagnostics 2) diagnostics by symptom 3) diagnostics by component. If you don't have a lot of time, you could start by running the sound system tests.

Both your desktop and your tablet have Realtek audio, ALC3800-CG for the desktop, ALC3261 for the tablet. A feature of Windows 8 is a background service that functions as an Automatic Update for drivers . . . So, possibly both of your computers received a sound driver update on the same day ... or possibly a recent Windows Update arrived on the same day that just happened to affect your sound drivers.

I'll guess that you've already tested for sound with a pair of headphones on each computer?

If it seems likely to be an audio driver issue, you could try different drivers (newer or older, from Dell, Windows Update, or Realtek) ... with the Dell drivers likely to be your first choice. To go straight to the last driver that w... Read more

I have a Genius GPen 4500 USB graphics tablet (using the built-in Windows 7 driver), and would like to use it on my secondary monitor (which is 4:3, unlike my primary which is 16:9)

However, windows seems to have decided that the tablet is integrated into my primary monitor (according to "Tablet PC Settings" in the control panel - it shows "Pen Input Avaliable" for the "1. BENQ E2220HD" item and "No Pen or Touch...." for the "2. SyncMaster" item)

Running "Setup" from that window does not work, as the tablet still maps to the primary screen, and can't be used to click on the second screen.

Is there any way (even a registry hack) to change which monitor is used? Or to update the range for the tablet such that it maps to the second screen.

If it helps, the setup is a classic horizontal setup (1920x1080 on the left, 1280x1024 on the right)

P.S. Sorry if this has been asked/answered before, but both googling and a search of the forum failed, but I may not have been using the correct terms)

Changing the primary monitor is a possibility, but not one I would like, as I use this machine to play games, and they tend to be rather attached to the primary screen.

Is there any remote desktop apps out there that stream HD video from your desktop to your tablet without any lag?
I've tried Splashtop, Logmein and Pocket Cloud. All failed miserably. I have an upload speed of 30Mbps  on my desktop and a download speed of 12Mbps on my tablet. There has to be something out there that can stream HD without lag.

A:Stream Video from Remote Desktop to Tablet Without Lag

What kind of tablet are you using? Are both computers connected to the same wireless network? If you're trying to stream video from your computer to the tablet, there are free programs such as VLC player which will allow you to stream videos from the VLC player on the desktop to the the tablet without lag, as long as your desktop and tablet are at least on Wireless N.
I hope this helps you out.

Can I use Windows Remote Desktop to access an xp3 desktop (as host) with my W8 tablet (client)?  I have a home network working, which is what I want to use.  I think I have all the required settings right, but the W8 pathway for RD is so obscure, and the interface so opaque, right now I can't even find it.     So I would have that problem even if the host was also W8. Before I spend/waste any more time on this, is it doable? Thanks for any . . .

Yes, you can. From a surface or other tablet running windows 8 you can absolutely connect to a PC via remote remote desktop. Works quite nicely in fact

Tried the XDA forums and got no where so though someone here might assist?

I bought a cheapy tablet called a Ployer MOMO8W, it had W10 working on it all OK but I had to perform a fresh install as the last W10 update wouldn't boot anymore. I used the bios to load from USB a fresh install.

It all went OK apart from the fact that it thinks its a now desktop and not a tablet anymore! There is no touch, no battery management icon, no screen brightness changer and no sound!

Looking in device manager I've got nothing in there with a yellow warning triangle and for the touch part there is no HID-compliant touch screen listed!

Does anyone know how to get this tablet to work as a tablet again please?

A:Fresh install of W10 on a tablet - W10 thinks its a desktop?!?

Did you export the manufacturer's specific drivers for the tablet before doing the clean install? Even though there are no exclamation points in device manager, there still could be manufacturer specific drivers that will have more functionality then the generic Windows 10 drivers being used.

Is it possible to get a Tablet or a laptop to use ethernet if it's connected but wifi if it isn't? I have a toshiba tablet with a docking station that is used for quality when it's docked I would like it to use the ethernet connection, however when it's not docked I want it to use the wifi connection up until a couple days ago it did this automatically now it's defaulting to the wifi connection when docked (both are up but our heavy traffic erp program is using the wifi connection and running very slowly). I couldn't find anything searching for this, thanks in advance.

A:Solved: Have tablet select connection based on status

Actually, that's the default behavior of Windows if you haven't tinkered with the routing table.

All of my laptops will default to the wired connection if it's available. When I do backups or other high volume file transfers, I connect them to the cable and move at high speed. I've never had to configure anything for this behavior.

Forced byMSoft into Win-10, I continue using IE-11 in the desktop, without problems, for all my previous desktop Favorites, but have many problems using IE-11 in the tablet (about which I will ask your help in another message).

Learning to use Edge in the tablet I was terrified to see that the tablet Edge shows exactly the WHOLE list of my desktop IE Favorites. Following MSoft instructions (In Edge ?more ?settings ?Favorites settings ?synch your content ?OFF) I cancelled the FAVORITES synchronization in BOTH the desktop and the tablet.

NO needed result. The tablet Edge continues to show ALL my IE desktop Favorites and to offer this list both for opening in the tablet the previously saved in the desktop WEB sites as well as for saving new WEB sites into this list.

Hello.  I just bought an HP Envy x360 TouchSmart laptop/tablet.  Several times per day, the laptop loses connection with my Wi-Fi router (Netgear WNR2000v3).  Nothing I can do (using Windows troubleshooter, resetting wi-fi adapter) fixes it, with the exception of rebooting the router.  Why I think it's a problem with the HP laptop is because when it loses it's connection to the router, all of the other devices remain connected (phone, other laptop, tv, etc.) I have made sure to update the driver for the wi-fi adapter.  I've rolled it back to rule out that the new driver may be the problem.  Both drivers experience the problem. I've changed my router settings to stay on specific channels instead of using the 'automatic' mode, where it scans for the best channel. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the laptop having a dual-band wi-fi adapter, but am not sure.  I need an answer soon, because if it keeps happening, I'm still within my window of returning the laptop for a refund. By the way, my laptop is running Windows 8.1. Please advise.

Sorry if I sound like a complete novice (because I am one) but the problem basically presents itself.
I have a Dell Inspiron with Windows Vista (don't ask me why) which is connected to the internet via an ethernet port (because I live in a college dorm).
So I tried to convert this into a wifi for my Samsung phone and tablet androids by making it into an adhoc connection, but they didnt register it. After much Google-ing I realised that androids don't support ad-hoc connections.
I even tried installing Connectify. But once again it created an ad-hoc connection as my laptop is Vista, which is incompatible.

I also read all this stuff about rooting your phone etc. which basically scared the hell out of me because I don't want to damage my devices and I'm afraid I might just, if I mess it up. They work absolutely fine otherwise.

So basically my question is, is there ANY way (an app, a software; no configuration required please) in which I can connect an android device to an Ethernet internet connection via Vista?

Thanks in advance. Especially to those who can explain in easy language.

A:Connecting Android Tablet and Phone to Ethernet Connection on Laptop

You cannot connect a phone to anything via ethernet unless the phone has an ethernet port, and I know of none which have such a port.

To connect a cellphone to the internet via wireless, there must be a wireless modem or router within range in the building, and that wireless router must already be connected to the internet.

A:Need Help w/Establishing Network

All machines are must be in the same subnet, i.e. 192.168.0.x where x is any number. The subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0 for most small networks.

Turn off any firewalls for debugging. If the firewall is the problem, you'll have to configure it to allow access to "trusted zone" addresses. Note that some firewalls must be completely uninstalled to stop them from affecting your networking.

PING each computer by IP address, and if successful, PING by name. You can obtain the IP address of a computer by opening a command prompt (DOS window) and typing IPCONFIG. This should work for any Windows version.

All computers should be in the same workgroup for computer browsing to function properly. File & Print Sharing has to be enabled on any computer you wish to share files or printers from. You also need to actually share the resource in question from My Computer, right click on the drive/printer/folder, and select sharing.

If you encounter difficulties accessing computers that are visible in Network Neighborhood, make sure the computer being accessed has an account with the same name/password as the system connecting to it uses to login.

While the default NetBIOS setting is correct for normal network configurations, it's possible for it to be altered, and it costs nothing to make sure it's correct. NETBIOS over TCP/IP must be enabled for normal network browsing.

3. Third tag: When I receive an email with a U tube or other type video attached to view, I can view for a few seconds, it then cuts out the video and sound, then starts up again. This interupts the whole video. What do I need to do so I do not experince these anoying outages?

4. Fourth tag: I receive HP updates intermittently that ask me to download them into my PC. Each time I try to download the updates, the download fails. What gives? Thanks.

A:Establishing two more accounts

1. Having no knowledge of your ISP, network, or the problems being experienced about all I can offer is to "establish internet connections for each of their accounts" the same way you are "receiving internet connection."

2. You can't forward websites or pages of websites. You can only forward email that you've received. If you want to call attention to a website the best and easiest way is to just send a link to it. That also avoids any question of copyrights.

3. The first thing to do is determine the cause--slow video servers? Your internet bandwidth too low? Underpowered computer that can't keep up? ...

4. From my experience (and advice a long time ago from one of their tech support people) I'd say that automatic updates is not one of HP's strengths. Best to avoid their auto updates, turn it off if possible, and go get the updates manually when/if you are having a problem.

I have upgraded my X201 Tablet to Windows 10 32bit. As far as I can tell, everything is working, including the WACOM drivers and touchscreen.  Wireless has worked perfectly so far, not sure about Bluetooth as I don't use it. My only issue is that the buttons on the display do not work. The power button located on the display does work. I tried installing the Tablet Button Driver II and it will go through the install but the buttons do not work.  This is the download link:http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds027627 The document claims Windows 10 compatability and was Last Updated :08 Jun 2015. On inspection, all the files extracted are dated from 2012 and when trying to manually run the software Windows throws up an error that the software is not supported on this PC.   I removed and reinstalled and noted that the driver information page when running the installer does NOT have Windows 10 listed as a supported system. My assumption is that the driver that they have linked on the download page is NOT the most current driver and is infact the driver for Windows 7 from 2012. Does anyone know how to contact Lenovo to get the correct driver posted to the page, or know of an alternate source to try and find it?

Hi folks, would greatly appreciate any help and advice on the following problem that's been happening over the last few months...

I have a Dell Dimension 9200 running Windows XP and use a Buffalo WBMR-G54 Wireless Router to connect to the internet. I also connect wirelessly with a Dell Latitude laptop and an iPhone.

What's been happening on the desktop computer is a loss of connection for 30 seconds at a time or so with the message 'Local Area Connection (a network cable is unplugged)'.

Yet while my desktop is disconnected my other devices are using the wireless connection without a break so it doesn't look like there's anything wrong with my broadband provider.

The Network Connection properties are:
Intel(R) 82566DC Gigabit Network Connection
PCI bus 0, device 25, function 0
Link speed: 10Mbps/Full Duplex
Driver Version: 9.4.21.0

It seems to be happening much more frequently in the evenings than during the day, especially when using Skype.

Any pointers and help would be great, let me know if you need any more info.

Many thanks

I was wondering how to establish trust between the domain controller and a couple of Windows XP machines I have in my network. I kinda did it with one but I'm not quite sure how I managed to do it. I'd appreciate it if someone could explain it to me plz

A:Establishing trust relationships in a W2K domain

Do you mean add the machines to the W2K active directory and have them work on the domain? Or do you just mean you want some resources from one without a true "network" login?

If the first is the case you what you need to do is 1) ensure have the rights to be able to add machines to your network and 2) know your Domain name and 3) ensure all of your networking is already setup via dhcp or hardcoded onto the PC (the main parts to be aware of are the IP and that your DNS entry is the W2K server). If all of that is verified and correct then on the XP clients you right click on my computer and pick Computer Name in there click on change and then move it from a workgroup onto the domain. XP home by default will not go onto a domain though I think there is some kind of hack to get them onto the domain.

If the second is the case as long as you have a user account setup on the W2K server for the person to be able to access the share you should be able to get in if you know the Domain\User\Password.

1. What Scope the CERT should have ideally it should address the incidents related to the information security i.e. Confidentiality/Integrity/Availability, but what will be the role of CERT in case of Physical Security Breach or Theft of Critical Hardware?

2. Should CSIRT also come in action in case of any IT Security Policy violation for example Pornography although it does not hit the three pillars of the IT Security CIA but it is against the company policy so who is going to take care of such policy violation?

3. How can I define the categorize incidents levels should I do it at high level for example DoS Attack, Hacking, Virus and Malicious Program and Unauthorized Access to Information or I should be more specific and define each incident in detail.

A:Establishing Scope of CERT/CSIRT

2. Considering that porn sites are known to install malware, I think CSIRT should come and do a scan. If nothing malicious is found, the team could at least wag a finger at the user. But, porn surfing can also be taken care of with a content filter at the gate.

3. Are you trying to assign priority to incident response? What do you want to use the levels for?

There are about 2200 discovered systems in our environment, which includes Windows 03, 08, and 2012 servers, dell and hp devices, and unix/lunix.  These span several domains with multiple domain accounts to access through the firewalls.  The CMS was just migrated to a windows 2012 server and now I am having trouble establishing trust with these devices.  I established trust between 1 device and the HP SIM CMS servers, then attempted to replicate the agent settings.  Only 450 devices were reached and of those 450, only about 200 were successful. Someone had mentioned forgetting establishing trust and instead going with a username/password authentication.  I am unware of how to go about this. I am new to HP SIM and would greatly appreciate any help on this matter!  If this post is in the wrong thread, i apologize.

The problem which I am having and have had for the past 6 months(since I upgraded my computer and reinstalled XP) is that certain sites for an unknown(to me) reason don't load. Almost every single website I go to DOES load perfectly fine, but a select few don't. Examples of these sites include www.nsa.gov www.pcmag.com www.space.com

Now, I know that it is not a problem with my isp because all other computers in my house do not have this problem. Here is the error I receive when attempting to visit www.nsa.gov

This is also not a browser specific problem. This problem persists in firefox(my main browser) and I.E.

I have tried to disable my firewall, enable ALL cookies, etc...
Nothing has worked, I am completely stumped as to why this occurs.

If anyone can help, I would be very thankful.

after downloading & Extracting the file. a 'read-me' file pops up.

it reads:

I recently moved into a new apartment and had a cable internet connection set-up. My computer (Windows 7) is a laptop and the connection to the cable modem is fine. I also purchased a D-Link DIR-601 router because I want to be able to access the internet in the next room, which is impossible with the wired connection.

I have set the router up so that the ethernet cables are connecting it both to the computer and to the modem, and my laptop is connecting through it, but to the wired network. Thus fat, I've been unable to properly set-up the wireless network. I have been through the D-Link's wizards and the instruction CD that came with the router, set-up a name and password for my network, etc., but it does not show in the Network and Sharing Centre along with the local WiFi networks. To make things worse, when I attempt to add a wireless device by adding the WPS PIN of my router, nothing seems to happen. As of today, the CD instructions which bring me through the router set-up and configuration has been stalling when I run it, bringing up the Windows message saying it must close the window.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tim

I've been trying to fix my son's system -- it got infected by BraveSentry 2.0 and some other spyware, and now crashes during any attempt to establish a network connection. I've cleaned BraveSentry and other stuff off the machine (thank you, SpyBot S&D, Trend Micro, Major Geeks, and CCleaner!), but the system still crashes when it tries to set up its network connections. This happens both with a cold start, and when network cable is plugged in after the system has started. The system runs fine if the network cable is not connected.

AVG's vcleaner.exe does not report any virus infections. Norton Utilities is installed and also does not report any virus infection, but its virus definitions haven't been updated since 2004.

When it crashes, I get a BSOD. There is an error message, but the BSOD stays up about 2 seconds -- not enough time for me to read the message. Then the system reboots.

SiSoft Sandra reports that the system is a HP Pavilion 4 running on an AMD XP Athlon 1800+ CPU. The OS in place is Windows 2000 Professional SP3. Unfortunately, I don't think my son has the Win2K disk for the system. It was his mother's; she didn't have much of an idea of how important that disk could be, and it has disappeared.

Any ideas on how to stop the system from crashing when it tries to set up its network connections? Or at least how to make the BSOD stay up long enough to read the error message?

Decided to open up the resource monitor today and saw something strange. System (PID 4) establishes low bandwidth (all <1kb/s) connections to random IP addresses. They range anywhere from 1 b/s to 400 b/s, usually all outbound. 0 b down. ALWAYS. It would establish anywhere from 1 to 8 simultaneous connections, which would last for a couple of minutes, then die out. Couple minutes later, it repeats, with new IPs. I can't see anything out of the ordinary in HijackThis logs, and a quick scan by Malwarebytes Antimalware shows nothing. I'm running Win 8 RP x64. What are these things? Has anyone seen this before? A Google search only turns out one relevant result that suggests it may be a worm, but then the HijackThis/Malwarebytes results? I've attached a screenshot.

Hi,
I attempted to create a dual boot machine when installing Win 7 alongside Vista but have hit an unexpected problem where Win 7, after successfully installing, doesn?t provide the option on boot up of selecting which operating system to use, it just goes straight into Win 7. Here?s the process I followed:
My machine has three physical drives, 320gb, 500gb and 1.5tb, the 320gb is split into two partitions of equal size and the original c: drive petition on that drive houses my Vista o/s. The 1.5tb drive is a brand new drive, which I had formatted in Vista prior to attempting the Win 7 install; it has no data on it prior to the Win 7 install. I created a bootable disc from my downloaded copy of the Win 7 upgrade and booted the machine via the disc and installed it onto the 1.5tb drive. Install went fine with no errors and Win 7 runs without issue. My problem is that now whenever I boot the machine it doesn?t provide the option of booting into Vista it just goes straight into Win 7. Also I cant see all of my drives in Win 7, I can see one of the 320gb petitions (the non Vista OS petition) and the 1.5tb drive but I cant see the 500gb at all (it only holds media files). I haven?t looked into disk management yet to see if the drives are visible that way.
If theres any further info needed to come up with a solution please let me know as I?m keen to still run Vista for a while whilst I transition data to Win 7.

Thanks for your assistance.
Gls

I recently switched from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Home Premium (after I set up the new gmail account.) Thanks.

Hi,

I have only a basic understanding of networking and I am trying to rectify this by setting up a small network at home to play with. I have created a VM using VMware Player and installed a Red Hat image. Using putty, installed on my local Windows 7 OS, I am able to SSH to this VM. However, I am unable to putty to the Windows machine, instead getting a "Network error: Software caused connection abort" error. I saw a thread suggesting I set "Seconds between keepalives" to 5 seconds (default was 0 - i.e. off), but this had no effect.

Any thoughts on what I am missing? Probably something simple as I so new to this.
Please let me know if you need more information.

Thanks!

I'm using a Windows XP with Google Chrome as my browser
The problem started when I was trying to get to Youtube. I clicked the link and a fatal error occurred. Something about a redirect loop. One of the possible solutions google gave me was to clear all cookies and so I did. But then when I did that and went to my desktop, my wallpaper was gone and it said "Active Desktop Recovery" "Active desktop has been turned off" etc. I ran ATF Cleaner and Super-Anti-Spyware free edition in safe mode and thought the problem was solved. Anti-Spyware found something called "Hijacker.Tubby" and "Hijacker.Deskbar" It quarantined them and I thought it was done. But my Active desktop was still disabled and the driver for my wacom tablet isn't running.
I need this solved as quick as possible because this problem is setting me back on several assignments for my art class. I can't just start over on a piece of paper; too much time was put into the work that's already been done.

Both times it was when I was connected through a Cad-5. Once at a friends house and another at my families place. I have never connected while the laptop has been wireless. Do I need to do something different to connect remotely when I am using the laptop wirelesslly?

Nope.
Cat-5 or Wireless is still a LAN, and the RDP(RDC) does not see it as any different, it may just be a little slower.

Could be a couple of reasons.

Reboot your phone. Sometimes they just won't talk to each other. All USB cables are not equal. If you use the cable that came with your phone, you should have no problem. If you are using a different cable that came with another device, it may or may not work.

Greetings,

Due to problems with my Sony VAIO laptop's processing, I have recently decided to re-install Windows XP, though this is the "Home Edition" (due to being unable to retrieve the other version of XP that I used for this laptop). Following the installation, I have attempted to also install some VAIO drivers, including one that concerns the wireless connection. However, once successful and re-booted the laptop, during the procedure, I right-clicked on the Wireless Network Connection (after clicking on "View network connections), called "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection", then, in the drop-down menu, I clicked on "View Available Wireless Networks". Once there, I can see the available networks, including the name of the router that we use. Below the selection box of available networks, a message says "This wireless network requires the use of a network key (WEP). To access this network, type the key, then click Connect. After I entered my security key, I encountered this error message repeatedly:

"The network password needs to be 40bits or 104bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters."

Consequently, I am unable to access the Internet because of this message!

Hi,
Last night I just noticed my Internet connection was slow while trying to play a game and watching some youtube videos. At first I thought it was my ISP, but then I closed all the open applications and while monitoring my network using (resmon), the PC was still downloading data while everything was turned off!
A quick netstat with:
netstat -a | find "EST"
Shows about 10 connections being made to this host:
hk2-dspcdn
A quick google shows this is owned by Microsoft.
Has anyone else experience this?
Does anyone know why Windows 10 is retrieving data silently from this host, it's not a trivial amount either, I logged about 2GB of downloads?
And yes I've got all automatic updates turned off, as well as allow update p2p sharing turned off.
Thanks.

A:Windows 10 silently establishing connections to host at hk2-dspcdn to download random data

Hmm if everything you say is true, I am intrigued by this.
Over what span of time was the 2 GB pulled?
Perhaps it was app auto-updates? Or maybe it was Windows 10 being extra stubborn and getting updates anyway. Got any more details actually about what build of 10 it is?

Hey all,
I need some help here. I'm pretty good with computers over all, but every now and then we get a new challenge. OK, I was asked to move a pc from a bedroom to the living room. Which i did, everything works fine but the internet. Supposingly the internet worked before. I have to say that before i tried to connect I cleaned up 5 trojans and some malware as well. From there i believed the trojans messed up the Tcp stack so i ran Tcp stack fix by the way of command prompt. Rebooted and nothing still. They are connected via a standard cable modem with Rj45 cable to nic connection on mobo. I checked cable and its ok, nothing lose. The modem is online, and i can ping localhost. But can't ping out. By now the woman is frustrated...... and im like im sorry mame ...im trying to figure this out. Now, im basically shot for answers..so i do a system recovery from the Hard drive. It's a successful recovery......but still limited connection. Im baffled guys.........any ideas.

I'm going to guess XP-SP2 from the lack of information in the post.

[]TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.[/b]

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands.

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.

After that, let's see this.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Any help is always appreciated!

A:Remote Desktop Connection?

Only Windows 8 Pro and Enterprise editions support Remote Desktop as a host. All editions support it as a client.
