Q: Verizon FIOS WiFi Software

I bought my wife an HP dm3-1047cl laptop that came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I bought this for her because of the light weight, long battery life and decent performance (for a portable machine).

I have Verizon FIOS for my ISP (and phone and TV too), but have really hit a brick wall with the Windows 7 laptop. We want to install the Verizon HotSpot software (free WiFi service at most Starbucks (almost everywhere we go) and other HotSpots). According to one Verizon site, it is compatable with 7 (32 & 64 bit).
But according to Tech Support and the main web site, it is not...

I tried several times (with and without Verizon tech support) to load the software, but I keep getting an error that "Minimum requirements are not met. Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 is not installed. Download from Microsoft and re-install".

According to Microsoft, this is already included in Windows 7 and the download will not proceed. I have to believe that there is a "work around" that will let me bypass this step (or fool it into working), but for the life of me, I can't seem to find it, or find any help within the Verizon Family...

Half the reason for buying the laptop was to be able to use it at the university. I really don't want to downgrade to Vista, but unless I can figure out a way to load the WiFi, I may have to...

Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated

My Best Always,

Michael

Hi Michael, What is wrong with using w7's builtin utility for detecting these wifi networks? Have it not worked?

We had FIOS installed on Monday, and though all our regular devices connected just fine to it, my HP CP1525nw Color Wifi Laser printer will not. I have the M1424WR Rev I ActionTec router from Verizon.

Have run the HP setup utility for the printer numerous times and it only completed the first time. But after entering my credentials for the new network, it failed on me. And ever since then I cannot get it to complete the setup. It fails on me every time. In order to run the setup for wifi, I connect a USB cable from my printer to my XPS 17. But no matter, it doesn't work. Also tried connecting an Ethernet cable from the printer to one of the ports on the router but nothing happened. Also looked at my router settings, but could see no place to update anything related to the printer.

So I turn to the tech support guy site, because after scouring manuals and HP forums, I am no closer to figuring this out and right now my printer is an expensive paperweight. Yeah, I guess that I could use the USB connection but that doesn't seem to work either.

All I know is that the printer is giving me a 169.xx address, which is not on my subnet. It needs to be 192.168 something.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Cannot connect wifi printer to new Verizon FIOS network

The printer is successfully connecting to the router via neither Wi-Fi nor ethernet and is not connecting successfully to a computer via USB. The common element here seems to be the printer. Suggest you try resetting it to factory defaults and see if that helps.

I have verizon Fios internet service. Here's a screen shot of my cellphone, using wifi and a screenshot of my computer using ethernet cable and actiontec powerline network adapters.
How can I change the ethernet speed to match the wifi speed?

A:verizon Fios: wifi and ethernet, 2 different internet speeds

FIOS is the best Internet service available in the US and you are lucky to have it. The discrepancy between wired & wireless throughput is legendary and there are lots of comments about it. In general the cause is obscure in most cases - wireless throughput is subject to all sorts of issues that are not present with a wired connection. In general you should not expect wireless speeds to match wired speeds - there are just too many variables in play with wireless. For instance, a fish tank can suck up wireless signals like a sponge, as can a steel beam or a large flatscreen TV.

Has anyone tried it yet? My dad is having me look into getting it for our house. We have the box on a telephone pole in our back yard and the Verizon site says that we are eligable...im just wondering about complicatedness of use as compred with what we have now (cable from Time Warner Road Runner)
I'm also wondering about the reliablity of the system and if you really get the 5mb down/2mb up - pipe speed that they promise.

Thanks in advance for any help/knowlege,

I just ordered Verizon Fios, it works fine, both wireless and plug in on my mac, but I can't figure out how to set it up on my roommates laptop. It's a Gateway, not terribly old I think. The people that scammed my roommate into buying this comp for 3x what it's worth screwed up the set up bad, they installed the desktop version of the software instead of the laptop version so it has no clue it's a laptop, when it closes it shuts down, and it has to be plugged in (it doesn't realize it has a battery so it doesn't attempt to charge) anyway, I'm fairly skilled with windows, I work with windows, and used windows in school, but this appears to be set up retro or something, I can't find any way to make it work with anything except non-wireless dial-up. It doesn't seem to know there is anything else, and doesn't have any options in the control panel to set something up (other then dial up) either. Anyone know what to do?

I am trying to optimize Verizon Fios on my Win 7 x64 system. When I go to their website and check my speed it tells me I am 'not optimized.' When I check 'Optimize' it starts then hangs up when it wants to install an Active X program for XP. No security bars or anything else pop up allowing me to change my settings. I did find another website that showed where the MTU setting which should be 1492 for FIOS. So, has anyone gotten their optimizer to work and IF so HOW? IF not when adding and MTU catagory should it be 32 or 64 (both options appears though I would have thought IF running x64 then only an x64 option would appear hence my asking for help..Thanks for any help..

Hi! I have a 5400 square foot home that is very long. I have verizon Fios coming into a demarc in the center of the house and am using their actiontec router with wireless. Connected to the router are 3 computers networked via Cat5e. My problem is that I am looking to extend the range of the wireless on the actiontec. I was thinking of using a Linksys WAP54GP (Wireless-G Access Point with Power Over Ethernet) to connect to one of the WIRED rooms at one end of the house, and another at the other end. My goal is to have the POE WAPs fill in the coverage and to provide some coverage outside by the pool as well. Does this sound like a logical solution? If need be, I can bypass the actiontec wireless capabilities and use it as a router only. Thoughts, suggestions?

A:Verizon FIOS and WAP

I use plain routers wired to the main box to do the same thing here. Here's how I connect them, any secondary routers you're using as AP's would be configured in the same manner. Obviously, if you need POE, you'll have to use something that supports that capability.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN por... Read more

I'm looking for folks that have actually installed Verizon FiOS service and can comment on how it went.

They "require" you to use their router, which kinda' makes me wonder. Is the configuration "locked down" so you can't access the configuration?

They state that you can have four wired connections and "many" wireless ones. Now, I'm not sure how they'd restrict you to four wired connections, but that goes with the question about the locked down configuration of the "mandatory" router.

I'm looking at the 15mbit/2mbit service, which would cost the same as my current Comcast 6000/384 service. When they say "up to 15mb", it makes me wonder what the real bandwidth will be on the service. I'd sure hate to swap and find out it's 2mbit!

I'm stunned at the complexity of the installation, they install a lot of equipment to make this happen, I'm also curious about reliability of the connections.

I have Verizon FIOS. I am using their Actiontec router. I turned on WPA2. All is working well. I wanted to turn it off to help diagose a problem with one device. I can see no way to turn it off. To turn it on you click WPA2. you put in an 8 digit "password" etc and it works. There seems to be no way to turn it off. Am I overlooking something? I tried deleting the password. but it gives you an error and remindes you the password needs to be 8 characters. I am probably overlooking something pretty easy but any help appreciated. Thanks

We got FIOS few months ago. And recently we got an Apple MacBook Pro. And we are having trouble with the wireless. The router is downstairs, in a TV room/basement, but most time is spent one floor above. I’m not familiar enough with Mac OS, so for what I know, I can't find out what the signal strength is. But the laptop has trouble connecting to the wireless network. So 2 questions, is anyone else having trouble and what have you done to fix? And the other thing, if the signal strength really is weak on the second floor, what can I get to use just as a repeater? I don’t necessary what to add another wireless network, but extend the current one.

A:Verizon FIOS wireless and Mac

Personally, I'd just increase the signal strength of the existing router, it's the more trouble-free method.

Hawking Tech has a number of products that will help you increase your wireless range. The root page is Hawking Hi-Gain™ WiFi Range Extending Products.

Some of the more interesting products are this Hawking [HSB2] Hi-Gain WiFi Signal Booster, which can be used on either end of a wireless connection to boost the signal power.

Another way to increase your signal strength is by the use of hi-gain antennas. You can choose from omni-directional or directional models, here are a some examples.

Hawking [HAI7SIP] Hi-Gain 7dBi Omni-Directional Antenna

Hawking [HAI15SC] Hi-Gain 15dBi Corner Antenna

[HAO14SD] Outdoor Hi-Gain 14dBi Directional Antenna Kit
This is just a sample of available products, many people have hi-gain antennas with similar specifications, but I haven't seen any other suppliers of signal boosters.

My internet connection has been dropping in and out for years. Since Friday I haven't had any connection on one of my kindle, spotty on android phone and spotty on other kindle that does come back when I refresh the connection.
I used to have spotty connection on my laptop before it broke.

I called verizon today and they told me I need to upgrade to fios. They will replace my linksys router and modem and install new ones.
Is this a good idea? Will my internet be smooth now and I won't have connectivity issues anymore?

I just want my devices to stay connected all the time.

Since Verizon disconnects its service through the use of a signal, I was wondering if anyone out there knows to which hardware level the signal is sent? Is the service terminated at the ONT, router, or STBs?

Also on a separate note. . . If Verizon can access and make all these changes to the programming of there equipment through the internet, and we know that there are people out there more than willing to do the same thing on there own, why don't i see more people asking how they can re program the boxes for anything other than converting a standard set top box into a dvr? Back in the day you could just unplug your cable box at the end of a free preview weekend and plug it back in a couple days later and you would still have the extra channels

A:How does Verizon disconnect FIOS?

I can assure you that you won't get FiOS working if it's disconnected, it's disabled at the Telco CO. Your fiber is dead if the service is inactive.

I suggest you take another gander at the TSG Rules, because bypassing restrictions to receive services you don't pay for is theft.

Just had Verizon install Verizon TV, Internet, and telephone service. I am experiencing intermittent loss of internet and telephone service. Verizon has made a field visit and it was my luck that the system was working at that time. Since then it has gone down and with out any explanation the service resumes. There is no discernable reason for all this. If you call my telephone number when its is down you get a message " all circuits are busy' try again later Erica 23 network"

To the Tech,

My HP all-in-one was working fine with its own dedicated phone line, until I changed from standard copper line to verizon fios (still has dedicated line). By doing this my fax machine rings, but leaves me a "no fax detected" message, also can't send faxes. I think the problem lies in the information not being rec'd through the line, because it has changed from analog to digital.
Calling Verizon, they have offerred no solution. Going to Fry's and Best Buy, they have no solution. Going online, and reviewing similar problems, I hear of Digital Line Converters, Digital Phone Service Adapters, etc. Has anyone had success with running an analog Fax on a FIOS digital line using some sort of adapter?

Here is Verizon's statement about FAX service and FIOS:

I would call back again and complain until the figure out the problem.

The only service I've heard of which doesn't support FAX are the land line replacement devices/services which use cellular wireless. I returned and cancelled service for this because the sales guy didn't explain any of the exceptions.

I dont want to go wireless, because I am having a lot of probs with my laptop now. Im trying to avoid running an ethernet from the downstairs router. Help!!!!!!!! please and thanyou.

You will need to run a wire from the router, the cable only brings the TV. It's true that there is encapsulated IP data on the wire as well, but it's strictly for the router.

Hi Everybody!

My network is working fine by verizon standards, but I'm a bit unsatisfied with a lag I'm getting while gaming on XBOX. I've concluded its the ActionTec MWR1424 router that's causing the problem, because I was doing fine before on a D-Link DIR-655.

Unfortunately, I have the Verizon TV set-up and I'm told I must use this router or I will not be able to access the TV guides, and VOD.

So.... I was hoping to be able to use an ethernet cable, and connect directly from the Zyxel Prestige modem that is a gateway for the ActionTec router, bypassing it completely, and going straight to the XBOX. But... the game system wont seem to recognize the connection.

I have no idea how to configure the Prestige to allow me to do this, and or if it's even possible to do while still connected to the ActionTec router via Lan1. I'm also getting a new power supply for my DIR-655 D-Link in the hopes I can connect a second router off the Prestige, and run my gaming stuff off that instead of the ActionTec (while keeping the actiontec up to handle the TV stuff).

This is all my inexperienced hopes I'm writing here, so anyone feel free to tell me what I'm asking for isn't possible or if they know a better way to do it. That's what I'm hoping for by posting here.

Thanks,

DW

I noticed that there is only an entry for the computer connected to it and nothing else.

I guess my question is this: What would you normally need to do to get this actiontec router to use the coax? Thats how it was setup at my old place.....

This is more just for learning how this works than switching routers. I want to understand what needs to be configured...

I have spoken with Verizon FIOS several times about this and their answer is that they have not developed and optimizer for Vista yet. Make sure the laptop has at least 1GB ram. 2GB is preferred minimum. It has a lot to do with speed. Also the speed program you choose will vary with your location to the server. "speakeasy.net" is the test Fios prefers but it will give you different results pending the location you choose.

Hi,
I have a PC that's around four years old, running XP Home SP1, on dial up. We are going to be switching to FIOS soon, and I'm wondering, from a stability standpoint, not a security one, should I wait until after the FIOS install before updating to SP2?
I understand there will be many updates needed ( required ) once SP2 goes in, and I'm not looking forward to that on dial-up.
The machine is a Dell 4550 P4, 2GHz, 1GB of RAM.
Is there anything, other than the security concern, that would keep me from moving to FIOS before I update to SP1. Presently I have AVG Pro, Ad-Aware and Spy-Bot Search and Destroy, all updated all the time, and scans done all the time.

I will be upgrading to FIOS as soon as it is available in my area, which that will be soon. I was wondering what the exact model is of the router they provide to you. I know it is a wireless router, and I'm taking for granted it's just a standard G router, but I want to make sure before I go purchase an N.

Which service better...Comcast (Cable) or Verizon (Fios)??? I recentley had Verizon installed in my house and Comcast removed. But, here is the problem...when I go to open a page on the internet or any other procedure, Verizon is extremely slow. But when I had Comcast cable. it seemd to have performed better then Verizon......How can this be???? Is there anything I can do speed up my computer? My computer is very, very sluggish and need advice as to how I can incease it's speed and performance.

A:Which is better Comcast (cable) or Verizon (FIOS)???

Verizon's Fiber line, is faster than Comcast's Copper line. I'm in the same process switch right now.

A buddy of mine has Verizon FIOS, and it's not even close. Not even fair really.

OK, first, Verizon swears they're not blocking ANY of my ports.
I was running a server on port 80 (among other ports for e-mail and FTP as well), for years on Verizon Fios with the old red and black Motorolla Router. Then I upgraded to the Verizon Fios Quantum, and all the ports are blocked.
- I've done all the port forwarding I can.
- I've done multiple resets on the router
- I've asked Verizon for help (practically useless, but swear they're not blocking ports)
- I've turned off all firewalls and tried it too
- Ports 8081 and 8096 work for programs I'm running, but just about every other port is blocked.

I'll spare you details on the machines and the systems (W8 and WAMP) because the requests aren't making it through the router.

Can someone tell me what I need to do to determine what's blocking the ports? Or more importantly, how to unblock them?

A:Why are all my ports blocked (Verizon Fios Quantum)

Well if the ports are blocked at the new gateway there is nothing you can do because you do not have access to its configuration. You could probably run NetMon or WireShark to try and verify where the packets die. It could be a marketing ploy to convince users running services from their residential line to upgrade to a business account () That would explain why the Verizon Tier 1 support are telling you no ports are being blocked because that is a default configuration for a residential line, in that no ports expected to be opened on a residential account are being blocked.

We had a client that had the CTB locker. We scanned and cleaned it with Combofix, Malwarebytes, JRT, ADW, Emisoft Emergency, and Rogue Killer. Deleted all temp files, etc.. 2 Days later it was back. System was down when we arrived. We connected a netbook to the Router and almost instantly Windows Defender (win 8.1 system) popped up saying it prevented unsolicited downloads to your computer. We reset the router to it's defaults (hold reset button in until it resets) and problem went away. Has this been reported before? I have seen infected routers a couple of times in the last coupe of years, but not recently and not any of the Crypto Locker variants.

Hello I'm kind of new to internet forums in general and I honestly don't know where else to turn. I'd talked on the phone and online with Verizon support, and even had someone come out. They have been unable to help me.
I have the Verizon Fios 25 down / 25 upload package. I get around 30 down / 2 up in actuality. When I had the tech guy over he reset my router to default, and even replaced my ONT. When he tried it out I got around 30/15, which honestly was good enough for me and let him go. Not ten minutes later the speeds went back to 30/2(or even worse). I'm at a loss for what to do. This happens on multiple computers as well, not just one.

WAN light *not* on. I'm unable to correct the type in the subject line and it's bugging me.
So, anyways... This has stumped all the networking people that I've talked to....

I'm working from home starting Monday. I am connecting a Verizon Fios router -> Cisco VPN Router -> Cisco IP phone -> PC.

At first, the WAN light was on and flashing, but it wasn't getting a local IP. We were stumped, found out it wasn't configured (they didn't save the changes apparently) and took it back to be configured properly.

Got it back and now we're getting a local IP from the Cisco router itself...but the WAN light does not come on anymore. We've tried using a crossover cable and still don't have any luck. When plugging the cable in initially it sometimes will light up and flash for a few seconds but then lose the connection and turn off.

My home PC is getting a fine connection through just the Verizon Fios router.

Can anyone assist me with this or tell me where we can look? I only have until Sunday evening to get this resolved by myself (the networking guys at my company were no real help.)

By the way I am unable to configure it myself due to security issues...my company won't give me the password to the router. However I can bring it back if changes need to be made.

A:Cisco VPN Router to Verizon Fios...WAN light no on.

What is the model of the Cisco router? Without having access to the configuration mode of the router is not going to get you far in troubleshooting the issue. The WAN port not coming up could be a number of things. If you had access to the configuration mode of the router you could take a look at the configuration and see if the network guys forgot to turn on the port with a no shut command. If that wasn't the problem, you could then look at the port itself to see if there are any errors by issuing a sho int fa0/0 assuming this port is a fast ethernet port.

How is your Verizon router configured? Is it acting as a full router? When you plug your PC into the Verizon router, what IP do you get? Is the Verizon router configured to be a DHCP server?

Computer - Gateway. Modem - 56K Rockwell, 7 years old. OS Windows XP Pro. Computer Fax Program - WinFax Pro, Version 10.0.
Previous - 2 copper phone lines, 1 for voice, and 1 for computer/fax. Dial up connection from Earthlink.
Current - 1 phone number shared by voice and fax. FiOS (fiber optic) connection from Verizon.

With the dial up, the fax program worked fine. When a fax came in, I didnt hear a phone ring; a little icon, in the corner of the monitor, would flash.
When I switched to FiOS, I only needed one line, as I can work on the computer and use the phone at the same time, so we eliminated the old computer/fax number, and moved everything to the former voice only number. I was told that the fax software woulf work provided the computer was plugged into a regular phone jack. (besides the FiOS internet connection.)
I tested the WinFax, after FiOS installation, by sending a couple of faxes. They went out fine, and I thought everything was OK, but soon realized I wasn't RECEIVING anything. I had someone send me a couple of test faxes. The fax program didn't pick up - treated them like voice calls - and the answering machine came on. We tried 2 other fax programs with the same results.
In one instance, the fax software picked up a voice call, and I had to talk over the screeching. Another time, the fax program picked up an actual fax call, and said, "Answering, etc., etc., Receiving" but, when I went to the fax inbox, there was only the calling number... Read more

I wonder if there's any way to add a USB printer to the Verizon router that would allow all computers on the network to print from it. On the new verizon fios router there is only ethernet connections. I could of course get a network printe, but for now I wonder if there's some way to turn a USB into an ethernet connection. I just bought an HP Pavilion running "Vista Home" but can't get an internet connection through Verizon FIOS which we had installed a month ago. I checked the connection and Ethernet cable with our new iMac which runs great from all the Ethernet jacks installed in the house and my older Mac G4 hooked right up with no issues except I change the setting in the Control Panel from "Dial-up" to "Ethernet."

But this new PC running Vista just won't connect up or recognize the router or vice versa. On the router, the port the PC is hooked up is lit but blinks rapidly. The Mac's ports on the router blink steadily and the connection is fine.

I spoke with both Verizon and HP. Verizon thinks its the Ethernet Card (which I think is unusual for a brand new computer) and when I spoke with HP for 2 hours today trying to figure it out they think its the Verizon router.

The HP guy had me run an ipconfig /all with the results below. He thought something was wrong with the "Default Gateway" which shows nothing and the "Subnet Task" says "255.255.0.0" instead of "255.255.255.0" but the only thing he could conclude was that the router was not recognizing the PC.

I did disable the Firewall in Vista. When I do try to connect it says it trying to connect through PPPoE and insists on me filling in a user name and password and we don't have to do that on the Macs.

When I diagnose the network connection I get... Read more

Hey people, last week I ordered fios. I am supposed to have a 25/25 plan. But when I run a speed test on this computer (which is the wired one) I get 25 mbps download speed, but 0 mbps upload. It's crazy. Yesterday I was getting about 4 or 5 mbps for upload and a couple of days after I had gotten it installed I was getting like 15 mpbs. Why is it going down? I ran the verizon fios optimizer, but it seemed to have no effect whatsoever. I even downloaded a separate utility called TCP Optimizer, and followed instructions on a little guide, but that didnt help at all either. Anyone know why this is happeneing, and How I can fix it? Please let me know if you need any additional details.

Hello!

SO...

I have a wireless G adapter installed in my HTPC. The router i'm using is the Verizon FIOS router b/g/n NOT the quantum. With this G adapter max is 54Mbps but i'm only getting 13Mbps down and 14Mbps up. The other devices that I have running off wireless (2 iPads) get 59Mbps Up and 65Mbps Down. My questions is this:

I believe that the wireless adapters in the iPads are wireless N hence why i'm getting kick [email protected]@ speed from both the iPads. I figure I would get a Wireless N adapter for my HTPC as well since the current G is very slow.

BUT, the thing that bothers me is why am I not getting the 54mbps on the HTPC then? Is there something I may have done incorrectly to get those lousy speed or, Is it just that G adapter?

Once I upgrade to the N adapter, will my speeds be the same or better then my iPads if I do switch from G to N?

I'm looking to upgrade to the TP-Link TL-WN851ND Wireless n300 with the dual antenna.

I wish I could hook up the HTPC wired but that's not possible at the moment.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking to set up two Apple airport Extreme's and one Apple airport Express in addition to my Verizon Fios service. I wanted to go over the best way to do this and how the cabling should be run from one device to another.

I have a MoCA (CoAx) connection coming into the Actiontech router and the WAN Port is free. I have one of the LAN ports on the Actiontech going to a switch and then all the connections on the switch run to ethernet jacks around the house.

After reading this article the below article I am left with the impression that my Actiontech router has to be reconfigured to connect Via my WAN port instead of the CoAx with regards to my Fios service? http://www.duglin.net/2012/07/how-to-use-apple-airport-extreme-with.html

Is that correct? I was just going to run an ethernet cable from the wall jack to the WAN port on the Apple Extreme and then set up the device in bridge mode. Then proceed to turn off the wireless signal on the verizon router and configure the Apple router with SSID network name.

Would very much appreciate some advice on what other people have done to set up a similar devices. Thanks

There is already two Linksys devices set up and have working wireless in addition to the Actiontech. If the Actiontech is connected to the ONT via Coax alone does that mean that the Airport Extreme/express should be able to be set up with everything configured as is. Would the Airport extreme be an exception and another wireless device would work. Just trying to figure out if I would have to have the ethernet connection activated on the ONT by verizon in order to add the Apple routers. Thanks

Starting November of last year however, I constantly get "stuck" trying to connect to any/some/all of my Verizon mailboxes via either OUTLOOK EXPRESS or via a program called MAILWASHER.

Both MAILWASHER and OE used to be able to connect to the Verizon mail server and initiate downloads/uploads to my accounts in seconds. Now however, almost every time I try to connect to get my mail, one or several of the mailboxes gets stuck and times out. Sometimes they all work fine. Most of the time one or another get stuck. So I have to keep stopping then reinitiating the mail connections to eventually get my mail, over and over again.

Note that I have 2 different PCs with the exact same problem. Also that I have a Yahoo business mail account also defined for both OE and MAILWASHER and that account NEVER has a problem - it is only with trying to download the Verizon emails.

Whatever the problem is it appears to be related to Verizon FIOS itself or their mail servers. I have asked Verizon for help and it was a complete waste of time. I have also posted on a FIOS related forum (back in November) but have still not been able to figure this out, although someone else there said they were having the same problem.

I have been trying to find a way to connect, forward the signal, recieve the signal from my Verizon Fios wireless router up to my WGT624 V3 Netgear router.

Is there a way that I can modify my wirless port on my Netgear to recieve a signal wirelessly from my Verizon Wireless router?

My Neighbor did it once with another wireless router, but he can not remember how he did it. I am thinking it had something to do with the Firmware.

If anyone can help me with this that would be great.

I am trying to make an secure POP3 (port 995) and secure IMAP (port 993) connection thru Verizon FIOS via the ActionTec MI424WR modem/router/802.11G box that Verizon supplied. I am running Vista, and I am using Outlook 2007, which is set to these ports.

I wanted to do this with the firewall set to the "Maximum Security (High)" setting.

These ports were not available in the ActionTec's pick list so I added these ports (using the "Advanced" tab and then under "Protocols") so they read "TCP any -> 993" and "TCP any -> 995"

I tried adding these ports to the "Access Control" table, and the "Port Forwarding" table and the "Advanced Filtering" table but none worked.

The Verizon Tech Support line worker told me the only solution was to enable the DMZ host and set it to be the IP address of the computer I happened to be on.

To my astonisment, with DMZ enabled, the "Access Control" rules seemed to kick in for the DMZ host and my secure POP3 would only work if I had this port allowed in the "Access Control" table.

Questions:
1. Is it safe to run with DMZ pointing to my computer.

I thought this effectively brought the "DMZ host" (i.e. my computer) outsied the firewall and exposed all the ports on my computer directly to the internet. (But if that were the case, then

Just got off the phone with Verizon. They had me push the reset button and I was able to connect to the internet again. I mentioned how slow it takes for pages to load. She said if I have two firewalls running that can happen, then eventually it blocks your internet connection. I have the free Avira and am only using the Windows Firewall. She said the Verizon router has a firewall but it's a low security. So I went on the internet was able to get on some sites, but then others wouldn't connect again, said there is no internet connection. All the lights on the router are on. So far it's still working, but this is what happened before when I lost my connection completely.

I got Fios installed this week. Router is the Actiontec MI424, it sits in the living room. I'm in a 2 br condo, not a huge place maybe like 1200 Sq feet, same floor. Wifi is awesome in the living room, but in the bedroom it hangs. I still have a signal, varying from low to good, but it takes forever to open a web page, to the point where you can't use the internet. Bedroom is just down the hall.

I called Verizon. They told me they can only guarantee the wifi signal 10 feet from the router, after that no promises. My frustration is that with my previous provider, which was giving me a slower internet connection, my wifi in the bedroom was fine and the router was in the exact same spot. Of course I used my own router, so the issue has to be their router right?

What are my options? My router is currently in a media cabinet and I really don't want to run any additional cable away from the cabinet (like to a switch down the hall). I know there are instructions on connecting my old router to the fios one and using my old router for wifi, and I think that should be my first effort, but not sure. My question with that is, will this help? Will I be getting the faster internet I'm paying Verizon for if I use my old router as a switch instead of their router? I've got limited networking experience but can follow directions and google...so any assistance on what my options are and how to get a working wifi connection in my bedroom would be very appreciated!

Hi:

Thanks for having me on your forum.

As the title of my post states, I'm having issues with my Windows 10 Wifi or lack thereof.

Let me clarify. I just got FIOS installed back in May 2016. Originally, it was supposed to be installed in March but then Verizon workers went on strike.

Anyway, before getting FIOS and the Quantum Modem/Router, I had DSL Linksy router. I attempted to access/utilize the wireless capabilities of the old DSL router and lo-and behold it worked. I was able to use the "Cast to" feature with the Samsung Smart TV. Everything was working great. Then I got the FIOS Quantum Modem/Router and now not only did the Wifi disappear from my Windows 10 "Settings" but the WLAN Network adapter is also missing from my "Device Manager". Basically I need to know if this is FIOS Modem/Router or something with my motherboard. I don't know if it's the motherboard but I'm not ruling the possibility out that it could be. I say this because there wasn't an issue with WLAN Adapter missing from the "Device Manager" before I got new so-called improved FIOS Quantum Modem/Router. Regardless of how things shake out I would appreciate any help that you can provide.

Thanks,

P.S. I might not get back to you quickly as sometimes when I get home from work the last thing I feel like doing to getting on the computer.

Hello all!

My friend got a HP Mini 210 from Verizon, I believe a few years ago. It has a sim slot, but there isn't a sim card in it. I don't know if she took it out, or if she never needed one.

It is an HP Mini 210 running Windows 7 Starter.

Apparently she isn't using Verizon anymore, as she recently bought a T-Mobile hot spot instead. She can't get it to connect to the T-Mobile hot spot wifi, and I brought it home, and can't get it to connect to my home wifi either. Well actually it says "Connected" but "No Internet Access." Internet is fine and working well, so that is not the problem.

The Verizon connection is under Dial up and VPN(I think it is broadband), do I need to remove this connection to get the wifi to connect properly? It is not connected to the Verizon connection though. Is it possible that this laptop is "locked" to Verizon the way cell phones are?

The Troubleshooter says "Windows can't communicate with the device or resource. (primary DNS server)

This isn't my computer, so I am hesitant to do anything that I am not sure about. Any help would be awesome!

Thanks!

A:HP Mini from Verizon won't connect to wifi

They probably set a Proxy in the unit, either in Internet Explorer, or in the Registry. Yes, delete the Verizon connection in Internet Options, in the Connections tab. Check for a proxy in that same tab.

I use a wireless adapter to connect to verizon wifi. Was not a problem until I installed SP2 now I cannot connect to verizon wirelessly. I called the help line they said that SP2 is not compatible. I gotta believe that there is some setting that can be adjusted to make this work without uninstalling SP2. Little help please?

Maybe the built-in firewall feature, which is new in SP2, is the cause of your problem. You can disable it from the Control Panel -> Windows Firewall and see if that solves the problem.

I just acquired new laptop with Windows 8 which I use for travelling. Verizon, with which I have an account, offers free wifi at its hot spots with my account. However, I can't download the app? that would allow this to happen because it is only made for Windows 7, XP, etc. Also, I recently tried to plug in to an airport wifi and the same thing happened--it called for any os except Windows 8. Is there a driver or something I can get so that I can use wifi spots?

A:Using WiFi Spots, including Verizon, with Windows 8

You have me confused. Verizon (nor any Wi-Fi) does not require anything but what is already supported in Windows. 802.11 is a standard that is supported by all operating systems that support Wi-Fi. I also have Verizon and Windows 8. I use it daily and have never installed any additional software.

I?m in great need of assistance. I normally don?t post issues but this will be a first for me and hopefully someone knows the answer. I?ve already spoken to Verizon but the tech support there is basically a waste of a person?s time; script readers. They have no idea why it?s not working nor do they attempt to try and figure out the issue. I have FiOS in my home for both TV and Internet. Everything works great except the Verizon Media Manager software. I?m able to install the software on the computers running Vista Home Premium; so I know the software isn?t corrupted. The machine I?m trying to get it on is a Dell Inspiron . I?ve provided the specs below. When I attempt to install the software, I get to a certain point but it stops and advises me that it has been interrupted. I have tried everything including diagnostic bootup. I?ve provided the three screenshots and also the log that is generated during installation. I?m hoping someone has a solution. Thanks!

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium; Service Pack 1
Model: Dell Inspiron 1720
Processor: Intel Core Duo 1.80 GHz
Memory: 2 GB
System type: 32 bit
Hard Drive Space: 105 GB available

A:Verizon Media Manager software

I found the solution to the issue. This issue was with the Quicktime and Real/Rhaspody trying to use the same resources that was attempting to install the Verizon Media Player. I had to uninstall the software and then reboot to clear them. Once I rebooted, I was able to install the software. I knew it was a conflict issue because the error code in the log indicate so. I'm posting the solution so that if others are looking to resolve, they can fix it on their machine.

Some how my mom blocked the Verizon freedom software. How do i unblock it? Thanks!

A:Verizon Freedom software is blocked

Talk to your Mom, and if she needs help, I'd suggest talking to Verizon. I don't think we're going to assist in unblocking parental restrictions here.

If you have a router, it can tell you who is "attached" to it. Give us the specs for it and we can help you find out how.

Hi genius, I want to share my videos on my laptop with my friends over wifi, and I hope we can watch the video independently that means we can free to decide the playing speed and progress. Is there such software? A Free One must be more better! I am looking forward to your answers. Thank you in advance

There is no known software. Especially for Windows 10.

can we see an ipconfig /all and a device manager screen shot

ipconfig /all

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
Note: you will see entries named Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: we dont need to see that information - JUST the information above those entries

Yesterday, I installed my new Epson WiFi Printer software. Now I can't connect my Sprint phone as modem. It connects, but no internet at-all.

network shows: Undefined Connection.

Any suggestions. Thanks!!

A:With New WiFi printer software, now NO Internet

Can you give us a picture of your network connections....

How do you connect your sprit phone, do you use windows mobile connect?

or do you actually use it as a modem and don't use the special hack on the phone.

becuase sprint will charge you like 50 dollars to use teethering or you can hack the phone to use the free internet that comes with the plan itself

After "Check Point" VPN software was uninstalled from my laptop I can not connect to the Internet (wireless at home). I am running VISTA Home Basic. Windows diagnostics says that network adapter ATHEROS AR5007EG is experiencing difficulties and recommends to install the latest driver version. It was done, but did not help.
In Device Manager list of network devices/adapters I have 4 entries: ATHEROS AR5007EG, ATHEROS AR5007EG - SecuRemote Miniport, SiS Ethernet Controller, SiS Ethernet Controller-SecuRemote Miniport. Both of "SecuRemote Miniport" drivers are products of Check Point.
SiS Ethernet Controller-SecuRemote Miniport does not work properly; the message is: "Windows can not start this device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (Code 19)".
My assumption is that 2 entries of "SecuRemote Miniport" drivers should be removed/uninstalled and related REGISTRY entries should be cleaned... If my assumption is correct, please, let me know how to fix the REGISTRY (I know REGEDIT command only, but not the next steps...) If my assumption is incorrect, then please advise...

Hi

I am trying to help a friend,

he works on a ship and wants to connect a USB Wifi Hot spot adapter to a PC on the ships network so he can use wifi on his phone to use whatsapp messenger to text back home to family, he really would like it hidden so no software is installed and preferably SSID hidden too, just because he says there are strict rules to what's installed on their computers so was wanting something that can run itself from a USB stick with no installation.

his is based in UK so something he could buy locally preferably

Have you contacted D-Link about the issue? Can you install the software on another machine and copy the DLL to a floppy or USB stick and replace it on the ailing machine?

I have a Windows 8.1 64-bit laptop and a few days ago i ran into an issue.None of my apps on the start screen connect to the internet even though the internet is connected and i'm able to browse the net.I'm not sure but i think this happened right after i uninstalled Kaspersky Internet Security.I looked around and thought it's a firewall problem but nothing is blocked in the firewall.I tried restoring default settings in firewall and even tried re-installing Kaspersky but that didn't work.I also tried installing third party firewall software like Comodo but that didn't help either.I ran scans with Kaspersky and Malwarebtytes but they didn't find anything.

I downloaded a microsoft troubleshooter and it said i needed to trust my PC and that apps and start screen sync was turned off

But i can't change any sync setting since it says that OneDrive is not connected to the internet.

What do i do?

A:Windows 8.1 Apps and other software don't recognize WiFi !

I believe it has something to do with your computer not trusting your Microsoft account. USE INTERNET EXPLORER as it is reported Chrome and Firefox does not work with Microsoft Account login.

One of the great benefits of running Windows 8 on multiple PC?s you own, you can easily sync common settings across computers such as passwords for apps, websites, networks in addition to other benefits such as themes, backgrounds and color schemes. To do this, you need to trust your Windows PC.
Start by launching Change PC Settngs (Windows + I)

Under PC settings, click Users tab

On the right hand side of the screen click Trust this PC

Sign into your Microsoft account which can be either a Windows Live ID, Hotmail, MSN or Outlook.com

Click Next to Confirm your computer as a trusted PC or you can visit a existing trusted PC and do the confirmation there from Sign in to your Microsoft account.
The PC?s you sign in with your Microsoft Account from now on will be a lot more seamless.

Morning folks,
Laptop won't connect via wireless.
It will connect via ethernet.
I have run antivirus and malaware bytes
I have checked relevant drivers
This is a known software issue as it happened last month. I took it to my local PC guy and he fixed it but was very vague about what he did. "I ran a couple of scripts" was his answer
All other devices in the house are fine.
When the laptop crapped out last month, so did the desktop BUT desktop is ethernet only. The computer guy fixed this the same way.

I could go back to my guy, but if it is recurring then I would like to know what is causing it.

I've tried different routers

I'm running Windows 10

Hi everyone.

I installed wifi hotspot client software a week ago (WiFi.com). It did say it wasn't ready for Vista, but I figured Why Not? It just won't work. I lost my wireless immediately. Uninstalled the software. For the past week I have done everything possible to be able to reconnect: update driver, delete hardware and drivers, reinstall, check that the client is gone, searched this site and found post "networking/685832" from Sundance, did what he did. Windows says that the device is working properly.but it can't find any wireless networks.

I'm running Vista HP of a gateway M-150X. All Windows, virus and other updates are up-to-date. I have attached my ipconfig data.

Can anyone think of something to help? Thank you for your consideration.

A:Solved: Wireless Dead after Wifi Software install

The minimal info given by ipconfig shows a possibly good ethernet connection to a router, and no wireless hardware.

Does the wireless adapter show as OK in Device Manager under Network Adapters?

If so is the wireless connection shown as enabled in Network Connections?

I am running Vista Ultimate SP1 on a Compaq C500 (Broadcom 4311 wireless). The Wifi turns on and connects fine, and I can access local resources, but the PC cannot connect to the Internet when running Vista. Luckily, it's a dual boot, so I booted up XP - Wifi and Internet work fine. So it's a software issue blocking Internet access. Just popped up tonight. No spyware. No firewall issues.

I have a Dell Inspiron N5110 Laptop that I got this Summer. I used the wireless internet all Summer long while traveling, connecting to wireless internet lots of times at hotels, fast food places, and in friends' homes (never had a problem).

But now at my house it says it is connected to the wireless internet but it won't load more than the home page in Internet Explorer or Firefox. Sometimes it will try to load a page for 10 minutes but nothing comes up. Otherwise, it just says, "server not found" or "internet explorer cannot display."

My roommate's Toshiba laptop connects fine, and our friends' laptops connect to it as well.

I was on the phone with Dell and my Internet provider for 2 or 3 hours. Dell finally said they think it is a software problem but they want to charge me way too much to fix it.

A friend told me to try this "click start -> accessories -> then RIGHT click command prompt
click "run as administrator" type the following in the scary black box exactly:netsh winsock reset, then press enter, then reboot." No luck.

Any help would be very much appreciated!
