HP Mini 210 on Windows 7 starter can see wifi network but can't connct

Q: HP Mini 210 on Windows 7 starter can see wifi network but can't connct

I'm trying to set up wifi on an HP mini 210 with windows 7 starter installed. I'm sharing internet via an iMac with airport (connected via ethernet.) My iMac settings appear to be correct (I can connect my iPod Touch and Kindle no problem.)
When I try to connect the HP my network name appears in the list of available wifi sources and lists all the details (WEP, 802.11n, SSID) but when I click 'connect' it says 'Windows was unable to connect' without requesting a password (and troubleshooting finds no problems.)

I've tried different settings (changing my network name, password, and from 40-bit {5 digit password} to 128-bit {13 digit password}) with no success. I've tried manually adding the network to the HP through the Network and sharing centre with no luck either.

Any suggestions?

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Instead of using WEP which can be hacked easily, I would try changing your network security to WPA2.
Here's How: What AirPort security settings should I choose? | Mac Support Central

Now, see if you can connect your HP Mini, then configure the rest of your wireless devices as well to connect to a higher wireless security.

i'm upgrading the messy computer network at our clinic. here is a brief setup:
all Windows 7 32-bit ultimate and 2010 MAC mini as file sharing server
all computers have WIFI-n cards capability
FRONTDESK:
2 computers running critical scheduling SW.

at the moment they are connecting via WIFI, however, i would like to be able the setup X-cable link between them and utilize the network traffic for the scheduling application (shared database with R/W access by both computers)

The WIFI should be for occasional internet use and grabbing documents from the MAC server, most of the traffic will be local however.

Can i somehow configure the ethernet between these 2 desktops, 1Gbit speed and force the application to use that rather then the slower WIFI ?
THERAPISTS STATIONS:
4 laptops with WIFI

connecting to shared folders according to each therapist, storing all important documents remotely with R/W access.
Mostly MS WORD documents and some internet use.

* i still need to figure out how to configure MAC mine server with properly shared folders with correct permission as some have R/W access, some only R access
The main Q is Ethernet priority traffic over WIFI, if that's possible ?

Help trying to do a fresh install on this but can't seem to find the recovery console or what ever I do the F8 for advanced start up but recovery is not an option try F11 but no recovery management. anyone have pointers? I am not too familiar with Windows 7

A:hp mini with windows 7 starter

You must press F11 as soon as you switch on the computer - if you miss the right moment it won't do anything.

If that doesn't work, switch off, switch on again and try F10 instead.

My daughter has an eMachines Mini laptop that has the windows 7 Starter edition on it. Recently it has gone down with no explanation as to why. I've tried everything I can think of so I decided to come here. When you first turn on the eMachine it acts like it's going to boot up but then it goes to a page that displays the following message:

WINDOWS FAILED TO START. A RECENT HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE CHANGE MIGHT BE THE CAUSE. TO FIX THE PROBLEM:
1. INSERT YOUR WINDOWS INSTALLATION DISC AND RESTART YOUR COMPUTER.
2. CHOOSE YOUR LANGUAGE SETTINGS, AND THEN CLICK NEW.
3. CLICK REPAIR YOUR COMPUTER.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THIS DISC, CONTACT YOUR SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR OR COMPUTER MANUFACTURER FOR ASSISTANCE.

STATUS: 0X000000F

INFO: THE BOOT SELECTION FAILED BECAUSE A REQUIRED DEVICE IS INACCESSIBLE.

The eMachine Mini does not have a disc because it does not have a disc drive. I can't get past this menu no matter what I do. I can restart and get into the boot menu by pushing F12, and I can access the F2 menu. But I can not access anything else. Does anyone have any helpful advice?

A:Emachines Mini and Windows 7 Starter

Reboot and tap the key given for BIOS setup to see if the HD is detected under Storage devices.

Then reboot and tap F8 key to see if you can access System Recovery Options to run Startup Repair or if that fails System Restore.

If not boot into the Win7 installer written to a flash stick from Step 5 in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start to run Startup Repair to see if it finds anything to repair. If not start at the top of the steps using the bootable flash stick alternatives for bootable AV scan, Partition Wizard and other disks needed.

Let me begin by saying I am a novice computer user and I appreciate your patience while helping me through this problem.

My HP 110-3030NR Netbook is completely wiped clean at the moment. I have a bootable USB with a copy of Windows 7 Starter. I insert the USB, boot the netbook and go through the motions of selecting language and accepting terms and conditions. I get to the infamous "Where do you want to install Windows?" screen.

If I try to install on partition #2 it says...

If I try to install on partition #1 it says...

So... I gotta admit I sort of became a traitor and tried installing Linux 10 Mint because I had been told Linux will handle all partition problems itself. Well, that didn't work, it seems to be the same type of problem with a different error name, with Linux it said, "The ext4 file system creation in partition #1 of SCSI2 (0,0,0) (sdb) failed".

So I gave up on that and am now BACK to trying to install Windows 7 Starter. The only difference is that NOW when I get to "Where do you want to install Windows?" there aren't ANY partitions and at the bottom it says, "No drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation".

I have been to the HP website and cannot find any Mass Storage Drivers, all I found were upgrades and patches. I loaded a few promising ones on a USB and tried to load them but the computer wouldn't even recognize them.

I have read thread after... Read more

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

You will need to go into the BIOS and make sure that the first boot device is set to your USB drive.

I'm not absolutely certain for your computer, but if you hit the F10 key when you boot up it should open up the BIOS for you.

You may get help from the HP Netbook forums on your BIOS configuration.

It should support office.

It is important to note that Windows 7 Starter still includes only a subset of the features offered in the higher editions of Windows 7 such as Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional and above. Windows 7 Starter does not include:

I want to buy a mini laptop to my kid ( age 9) for watching movies and browisng internet , netflix and some not so intensive games. I see a deal on ebay, but not sure of 1 GB Ram is sufficient for decent speed. Unfortunately, I can't increase the RAM either. Wants a expert opinion.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290634765509+
Operating System: Genuine Windows 7 Starter

Processor: Intel Atom Processor N455

Processor Speed: 1.66GHz

Processor Cache: 512KB L2

BUS Speed: 667Mhz FSB

Memory: 1GB DDR3 System Memory (1 DIMM) MAX Supported = 1GB

Accessible Memory Slots: 1

Appreciate any alternatives.

A:is 1 GB RAM good enough for decent speed for Windows 7 starter mini

I'd say 1GB is okay for Windows 7 Starter, but for any other edition 2GB would be much preferred.

What I'm more worried about is whether the Atom CPU is powerful enough for movie playback, including Netflix. I would definitely expect problems with HD movies (720p or 1080p resolutions, files encoded with H.264 or VC1).

A "full-size" laptop might be a better option than a netbook. A low-to-mid range model should do just fine here.

So I acquired this Inspirion mini from my sister a couple of days ago (she had it sitting in storage for a few months) and originally planned to have it factory reset so I could use it mainly for a trip I have coming up and for a good note taking laptop that's small and convenient. She bought it (I believe) about 2-3 years ago from a T-Mobile store locally. However, I went to do a standard factory reset on the model ran into an issue. She "claims" nothing was wrong with it but there are numerous randomly installed programs and I am assuming maleware of all kinds so I really just wanted to wipe the whole thing and start a new. When I went into the F8 recovery menu on start up, I select the "Repair My Computer" option and it goes into the load windows file screen, loads all the way across the screen and then goes blank and starts into windows normally. Somehow there is a problem with either accessing the system recovery program (or maybe a partition problem?) I have no idea. I don't much experience with Dell Computers and their recovery process but I am pretty knowledgeable about computers and windows OS.

A:Dell Inspirion mini 10 (T-Mobile) can not factory reset in Windows 7 Starter

Is there a Recovery Partition shown in Disk Management? F8 on a Dell with Windows 7 is the correct key to start a reset. On XP it was down by holding the Ctrl key while tapping F11.

If there is no recovery partition, call Dell support with the service tag, they should provide you with a disk minimal cost. If a disk you will have to transfer it to a USB key.

Windows 7 Starter is actually a pretty bad OS compared to the full version. If Dell does not give you the disk take a look at Linux Mint Xfce. Depending on what software you use and how you plan on using the netbook, i.e. check email and browse the internet, you should do fine with Mint.

We just got an Asus EEE netbook that has Windows 7 Starter edition on it.

An annoying problem with it is that even after setting our home wifi as the Home wifi connection, and I seem to remember also specifying that it should connect automatically in some dialog box during first-time setup, it defaults to needing to be manually connected every time. And there is no option anywhere to be found to set it for Auto. So I can not reset it to auto. There is no option available to do it anywhere that I can find.

To vent just a little: how could such a really obvious flaw like this go out to market? OK that's a rhetorical question. Of course a NETbook ought to be able to have its wifi set to connect automatically. It looks to me like some overzealous programmer has written in a non-overrideable default setting of 'manual connect' on this. Thanks, guy.

I searched online for a solution to this and could not find anything. There was one set of instructions I did find that supposedly pertained to both Vista and Win 7, but I hit a dead end because a folder it told me to go to (WLANServices) did not exist in this Win7 Starter version I have.

Also if anyone has the name and address of the programmer, that would be good too. I have a bag of something I want to mail to him.

thanks for any help

My daughter had received a Dell Inspiron mini with Windows 7 starter preloaded. At some point it started crashing when attempting to connnect to our network (in home) to get on internet. I also noticed it would not run windows updates. After some research discovered possible virus. I did run several spyware, malware programs and was able to remove fake trojans. Everything seemed to be going well until I rebooted. The system now boots to system recovery options. Knowing there is nothing really on the computer to loose, I have tried ever option. When it runs startup repair, it is unable to repair the problem. I have tryed system restore, I picked a point previous to problems start, it said it restored it but it still boots back to system recovery options. I tried the image recover and factory image recovery. If i go to command prompt I even started the setup.exe and was going to reinstall but it says it needs some drivers and for me to insert dvd/cd. I dont have one since it came preinstalled, or at least I have never seen one with this machine. I can view in dos prompt everything on the machine. Every time I reboot it goes back in to repair cycle with no repair. Any help greatly appreciated.

What does "startup repair" detect? There is a text something like "view diagnostics details", click on it. Now you see all the tests it performed, most succesfully I assume. Succesfully is status 0x0, not interested in that.

What tests result in another status? Give as much information as possible

Hi,

I have a Dell laptop running Vista and just purchased a netbook with Windows 7 starter. I want to share files between the two, however, I cannot see the other computer on the Network Map. Both computers are on the same network with same Workgroup name. I have both set as "Turn on network discovery", "Turn on file and printer sharing", "Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders".

Please let me know what I have missed. Shouldn't I be able to see both computers on the network at the same time even though they are running different version of Windows? I don't want to pay anymore to upgrade. Please help!

A:network with Vista and Windows 7 Starter

let's try this, find the ip of one of the machines on the network.
In the system tray, click the network connection icon and select Open Network and Sharing Center.
To view the IP address of a wired connection, click Local Area Connection. To view the IP address of a wireless adapter, click Wireless Network Connection (Network Name).
Click Details... . Your IP address will appear next to "IPv4 Address".
once you have that address you should be able to make a desktop shortcut on the other machine that points too //192.168.2.4 (or whatever the ip turns out to be)
that shortcut should manage to discover the other machine.

I am trying to create an ad hoc network from my windows 7 starter netbook, so i can share my 3g internet connection with other wireless devices (ipod, etc).

I have managed to create the ad hoc network, (by typing in ad hoc in the 'start' search bar)

However at the end of the 'setup' when it asks if i would like to share the computers internet connection, i click yes, but it then comes up with the following message:

"you don't have enough privileges to configure internet connection sharing"

Even though I am logged in as the administrator. I have done a quick google search for the problem and found a few others with the same problem, however none have a solution.

Do any of you guys/girls know how to do it?

I suggest you try Connectify instead. Instead of broadcasting a pseudo network, it allows you to use the same wireless card you're connected to the internet with to broadcast a wireless hotspot. This makes it much easier to connect to and it's much easier to set up.

Hello,
I bought a netbook a while back with Windows 7 Starter.

I had an extra upgrade key of 7 Home Premium from one of those 3 pack family upgrades so I upgraded the netbook and put the key in.

I want to reformat the netbook back to Windows 7 Starter and just use it's original Starter key it came with. Home Premium bogged it down too much.

My question is...

Is there a way I can reuse the upgrade key of 7 Home Premium on another computer or did I waste the license by putting it on the netbook?

Thank you in advance for your help,

Previously, on 7 Ultimate the installation worked without issues.

Anyone got any solution for this problem?

A:Lexmark x4550 wifi printer, Starter 7 - install problems

Unplug the printer!
Make sure you have all of the previous installation(s) removed from the problem machine, and then start over.

Uninstall in SafeMode and use the Built-in-Adminstrator Account
Then use the free version of: Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems to make sure it is all gone!
Be sure to reboot when asked to!

Do not plug the printer in until asked to.

You can use this link to find the latest Lexmark drivers for 7:

It all started with google redirect. I wish I would have found this forum sooner rather than later. With that said, I had already DLed MbAM and removed half a dozen various infections just to be left without a WiFi internet connection. I had also run a few of the tools such as the GMER and Combofix before landing on this site. So i appologize in advance if this could cause more headache. I did however manage to save all the original logs if need-be.

The computer itself is actually running much faster however, without the internet connection I can't tell if the redirect was cured.

An update...

After further poking, I found that this system had a partition which contained the original windows image. Since there was no valuable data on this computer I decided to go ahead with the recovery. I have regained my internet connection...and some sanity. However, I am thinking this may not be the end of the infection... or is it?

i would like to reopen the pending issue:

small network with 8 stations running windows 7 PC ultimate 32-bit. all were fresh installed with BitDefender 2010 antivirus and MS office 2007. 4 brand new laptops + 3 new desktops + older P4 desktop on ethernet (the old one is visible as billing-pc)

most of them are via WIFI-n DLINK router, one via ethernet. on the network is also mac mini 2010 server running SMB for file sharing services. the server is not showing by default ether.

at some point i began to notice that not all computers are showing under the "network" in windows explorer.
i can easily ping all computers by IP or name without problems. i can always force open the computers shared files.

i can force browse any computer by: \\pc-name just fine

later on i've discovered that turning on the GUEST MODE mode in the SMB setting made all those problems disappear.

the full tread is described here:
http://forums.techguy.org/networking/944131-windows-7-problems-computers-not.html

few additions:
the 3 new desktops, do not show a log-in prompt window when connecting to a shared folder on the SMB server. i don't know why.
the 4 laptops require login every time and it's easy to track the permissions.

also, i see in the connection tab in the SMB a mysterious DENY_NONE user. that seems to be the one when the GUEST MODE is on.

Now, i would like to investigate with your help why the W7 computers are not showing in the windows explorer network browser. t... Read more

sorry about the long post but i don't know of any other way to get these questions answered. i have had for some time a home network consisting of 3 desktops(all with win XP) and they share a common printer. i just recently got a laptop with win 7 starter with wireless internet con. i would like to network the new laptop with win7 starter to my existing win XP network but windows 7 starter says i can't without spending some more $$ with microsoft.
in win 7, to to control panel > homegroup > introducing homegroup. it says, "you can't create your own homegroup with this edition but you can join one created by someone on your network who is running win 7 home premium, . . . ."

questions: (1) does this statement mean that if i bought the full-blown ver (home premium), i could then install it on one of the three computers and create a homegroup and then be able to share files and printer with the laptop that contains win7 starter ? ? (2) (keeping in mind i need to network all 4 computers and the printer) would i have to install the win 7 home premium on all three of the computers or could i just install it on one and leave the other two with XP. (3) to install home premium on all three, would i have to puchase a license for each pc or would i be able to install it on all three for the same nickel. (4) i also notice i could upgrade the win7 starter to home prem for about $65 depending on where i buy it. if i bought the upgrade and installed it on the... Read more

I have a 600 g1 mini running Win10.  I put in a combo wifi blue tooth module into the m.2 slot that is under the hard drive.  Windows recognizes the module abs shows that both wifi and Bluetooth are working.  When I try to connect to any device or a wireless router I get nothing,  I'm assuming that there is no signal being broadcast or detected because I have no antenna connection.  The parts list indicates that an antenna exists.  Where is it?  Thanks in advance.

Gentlemen, i owns Dell Latitude D600 which it runs off on Intel PRO/Wireless 2100A MiniPCI 3A...

I was wondering if i WAS able to replace it with stronger WiFi MiniPCI card ?

I dont like the idea using the PCMICA cards.

can i just order one and flip out and put the new one in?

Old Spec:
802.11B?G

New SPEC:
802.11A/B/G
or
802.11A/B/G/N

Was there a possible if i can get it working properly ?

I was trying to upgrade it to vista, but 2100A is not supported.

A:WIFI MINI PCI Upgrade

bushwhacker, it is possible to upgrade with newer wifi mpci cards. I have one D600 as well and I tried many different cards. they all work as long as you find a driver. at the moment I run it with a Dell 1470 Dual Band card which worked ok with vista when I played around a bit with it.
hope this helps?

I have gone through nearly every single thread made by someone with the same problem, but everything I have tried has ended up unsuccessful. I am at the end of my rope with this problem, and it needs to be corrected now. I'm a senior in high school and using my mother's Asus eee PC (model number 1001PXD) for classes. Since this netbook does not have access to the school's networks, I am using the multiple "Guest" access points. For some reason, I am able to connect in some areas with little to no trouble out of the "Unidentified Network" problem during certain times of the day, and others I can't connect at all (ironically, this usually happens when I REALLY need to access the internet for online courses). I am not at all far from any of the access points, and the signal is excellent when I DO manage to log on.

The same netbook logs on to the networks in mine and my grandmother's homes no problem. It only has an issue with the school's "Guest" network.

I don't know if this is significant or not, but I find it rather curious that my Nintendo 3DS cannot connect to the "Guest" network at all.

I will include a screenshot of my "IPCONFIG /all" settings, and I will post more if needed. Please, any suggestions are helpful... My graduation is at stake here... I really need your help.

as for connecting a wireless dongle to a pda in general, no that will not work, because no wireless usb dongle manufacturer makes drivers for the windows mobile operating system.

your best bet is probably an SD card wireless lan adapter.

Hello all!

My friend got a HP Mini 210 from Verizon, I believe a few years ago. It has a sim slot, but there isn't a sim card in it. I don't know if she took it out, or if she never needed one.

It is an HP Mini 210 running Windows 7 Starter.

Apparently she isn't using Verizon anymore, as she recently bought a T-Mobile hot spot instead. She can't get it to connect to the T-Mobile hot spot wifi, and I brought it home, and can't get it to connect to my home wifi either. Well actually it says "Connected" but "No Internet Access." Internet is fine and working well, so that is not the problem.

The Verizon connection is under Dial up and VPN(I think it is broadband), do I need to remove this connection to get the wifi to connect properly? It is not connected to the Verizon connection though. Is it possible that this laptop is "locked" to Verizon the way cell phones are?

The Troubleshooter says "Windows can't communicate with the device or resource. (primary DNS server)

This isn't my computer, so I am hesitant to do anything that I am not sure about. Any help would be awesome!

Thanks!

A:HP Mini from Verizon won't connect to wifi

They probably set a Proxy in the unit, either in Internet Explorer, or in the Registry.  Yes, delete the Verizon connection in Internet Options, in the Connections tab.  Check for a proxy in that same tab.

I have an Acer 11.6" Aspire One AO751H netbook. I want to upgrade the wireless-G to N. This model takes the half size mini pci-e cards. I just recently purchased the Intel Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300 card. Installed it yesterday, booted the computer, and so far so good. It recognized the card right away and the driver installation was successful. The wifi activity light works, the card is recognized, but it is unable to detect any networks. It just flashes that little balloon at the bottom saying "wireless networks unavailable". Try to refresh the network list, and i still get nothing. I tried turning the card off, then on again, but nothing. I checked on the driver in Device Manager, and it says it is functioning properly.

I have the most up-to-date BIOS and I am running 32-bit XP Pro (downgraded from the factory installed VISTA). I was wondering if maybe there was an issue with the antennas? The 5300 card has 3 antenna inputs, but the laptop only has two antennas. I was told on numerous forums that it would still function fine with only two antennas, however. I obtained the most up-to-date driver for the card right from intel's website and it installed without any issues at all. Does anyone have any input on to why this card seems to have installed fine, but cannot detect wireless networks? Should I try an older driver? I know many people have upgraded the wifi in this Aspire Ones, so I can't see it simply being incompatible.

Please find attached the screenshots that depicts my current setup of the driver installation

To illustrate what you see on the image... the case is as follows:
- I have installed the driver from the vendor provided on my XP box that includes utility software
- You can see the driver location on the top part of the image
- When I plug in the Mini USB WiFi Driver, it doesn't recognize the driver and on the Device Listing -> Other Devices -> 802.11n WLAN Adapter is shown with an exclamation mark

I tried right clicking and updating the driver giving the driver location... it fails

I also tried right clicking the driver and installing it. Yet no luck

I really appreciate some help to resolve this ...

There are a couple ways to do this and it will show all machines in your network but it's not quite like the network map. The link below shows you how.

For the network map just go to the network and sharing center and click on "see full map". There are some limitations with windows 7 starter for instance, you can't create a Homegroup but you can join one.

Hi

My motherboard got a port called Mini PCIE. It looks similar to the standard PCIE port but is much smaller (I guess that's why it's called mini ) AND it appears to be tilted 90 degrees to the right if I'm right. So I would have to place the card vertically. Space seems to be limited. Of course I could be wrong on that.

Board type is MSI AM1i

Photo is below. The port in question is just next to the two SATA data ports. (actually on the left, in the second pictures)
I'd like to install a Wifi card there. Please tell me. How and where? Where am I supposed to place the antennas? Do you know any good cards? I didn't buy the card yet, only the motherboard

Thanks a lot

^^ The mini PCIE port is just above (again, next to the white-blue capacitors and left to the sata ports), and lies vertically in the picture with a number tag written to it

guys this one has me stumped cold. Dell Inspiron laptop, very clean software wise, had original mini-card [internal] which could not detect any wifi networks - known good wifi AP's. All the windows checked showed the device working properly but I finally replaced it with one of the better "n" cards out there. Same thing all over again. Put it right next to a working AP, cannot detect a thing. Antennae is hooked up properly.

If I plug a good WIFI stick into USB, it works immediately, no drama.

I have no idea what is preventing this from detecting anything. What should I be looking for?

A:WLAN Mini-card Good, but cannot detect WIFI ??

Hi zapp22,

It appears that the 'Wireless Card' is currently 'Disabled'; please check its status in 'BIOS' and 'enable' it if needed. To access 'BIOS' you may follow the steps listed below:
- Power off the laptop > Power it back on and at 'Dell splash screen', repeatedly tap 'F 2 key' (BIOS screen should appear) > Usually 'Dell Inspiron' laptops have a 'category' named 'Advanced' > Ensure that WLAN is enabled > 'Save Settings' and 'Exit'
(Note: BIOS setup may vary based on different laptop models)

If the wireless card still does not detect any networks in 'Windows', try tapping <Function><F2> or only <F2> if the previous key combination does not work. This is the 'radio control' for the 'Wireless Card' installed in the system.

Hope this helps. Do reply with the finding; would be glad to assist.

You can set this up using the command prompt or you can install the connectify software which makes it easier for some. The first one should be the easiest because it's software based. The last one is a download for a virtual router if that's what you wanted.

i just got a new router, my brother helped me set it up
this router creates 2 wifi network, one named A, the other one named B.
A is faster than B (i don't know why)
on my ipad or phone or any mobile devices, i see both networks
but on my windows 7 PC, i only see B (the slower one)
so where is A? i need this faster one, why does it show up on mobile devices but not on my Windows 7 PC?
when he set up the router, he said to me that the website (routerlogin.net - where you can set up your router, put password, etc) says "A is available for Mac and B is available for Windows PC". is this the reason?
but what about mobile devices, they can connect to both networks,
please help, thanks

A:WiFi network is not showing up on Windows 7

Other than the router's setup software, routers typically don't care about the OS of the machines connecting to it. But they do require that connecting devices operate on the protocols that it supports. If network A is running 802.11n and network B is 802.11g, and your PC can only do 802.11g, you will only be able to see B. If your PC can do 802.11n then you would likely see both.

What's the make/model of your router?

That problem has been getting on my nerves in the last hours.

I just bought a new netbook (EEE 1005PE) with w7 starter edition. I want to access folders on my NAS devices. The NAS stations and my whole home network are setup as a workgroup.

I changed the workgroup name on the w7 netbook to the same name as my home network, and my account name under w7 is also the same as my account name on the other computers on the network.

I can see the nas stations in the network overview in w7.

but whenever i try to connect, it says that user or password is wrong, and prompts for a password or proposes to use another account.

I tried using another account, but it seems impossible to get rid of the domain prefix in front of the username?

how to just connect as a user without domain?

or... how to just connect to a normal ethernet workgroup network share with user/password?

Hi there

This USB Wifi adapter seems to be a MEGA performer --Lovely finally to be able to THINK of getting rid of LAN cables all over the place.

I've no probs with decent HD Movie streaming from a SERVER with one of these (I unplugged the LAN and inserted the USB Wifi adapter into a USB3 slot --note this needs genuine USB3 to work at proper speed). My Home router can deliver 802.11ac so no probs there.

Brilliant piece of kit and NO MORE CABLES !!!!!!. Wifi will soon be able to deliver comparable speeds to LAN especially for HOME networks. !!!

Here's the UK Link but is available in US and Europe. In any case it's delivered (in my case) by Amazon S.A.R.L (Luxembourg) so no tax !!!. even though I ordered from UK web site --they will ship outside UK tax free.

Hi

Not sure if what I am trying to do is possible.

If I have two Windows 10 tablets and want to mirror the screens, do they need to both be on the same WiFi network or can this somehow be done directly between the devices?

I have head about something called WiDi and Miracast but not sure how to best use these.

If I were to take the two tablets I have out and about and wanted them to show the same screen wirelessly somehow is this possible? If not, could a cable be used - if so would this be HDMI? Ideally I would like a wireless solution if this exists.

I've heard the new build of Windows 10 might have improved screen sharing possibilities.

Is what I am wanting to do possible at all.

Any help or guidance would be great.

Thanks in advance.

A:Is it possible to mirror Windows 10 devices without a WiFi network?

Hello nswmuk, and welcome to Ten Forums.

If the wireless display (ex: TV) supports Miracast and is turned on for the device, then you'll be able to directly connect to the wireless display from your tablet if your tablet also supports Miracast.

Connect to Wireless Display with Miracast in Windows 10

If they don't, then yes you will still be able to connect the display to the tablet via HDMI cable to project (Win+P) the tablet's screen to the other display.

I have a HP Envy laptop running on Windows 8.1 (did not update. it came with it)
I have never had a problem connecting my house's internet network.
However, today i woke up, i turn on or restart the PC. it was already on, and i tried using the internet, i wasn't connected.
I lsearched for my wifi network. didn't find it.
Restarted the PC and tried disabling and then re-enabling the adapter, still couldn't find it.
Rebooted the router. nothing happened.
I even reset the router and still couldn't find it. (firmware up to date) (Netgear)
This only happens to my Windows 8 PC.
All other devices (PCs, Phones and tablets...even the TV) are working fine wirelessly.
That's why i posted this on Windows 8.
The PC works perfectly using an ethernet cable.

I am having an issue at my place of work with a laptop.
Background information:
We have an MPLS network between each office so we are on the same network. Each office has a Server 2003 Domain Controller that runs a DHCP server providing that office with IP addresses. So one office has a 10.10.10.x IP and another office may have a 10.10.20.x IP. We have static persistent routes setup on the domain controllers in each office to force anything going to the other 10.10.xx.xx office to go out the MPLS router address of 10.10.xx.1. Every office has a variety of Linksys WRT54G model routers all setup the same for SSID, wireless security and such and are just used as access points instead of routers.

My problem is that I sent a laptop from the 10.10.10.x network over to the 10.10.40.x network and am unable to ping said laptop. (Cannot ping from that offices Domain Controller or my machine) I cannot ping the netbios name or the IP address. I looked in the Windows DHCP server Address Leases and that laptop has a record and an IP. The logged in user is only a Domain User so they cannot run ipconfig /release or /renew or repair their wifi connection. The user is however able to connect to our terminal server in another office(the one I am trying to ping from) just fine.

I have done the following to try resolving this issue:
1. Reboot the machine
2. Disable/Re-Enable the wifi on this Dell laptop using FN+F2
3. Run ipconfig /flushdns then reboot

There is no firewall between the office... Read more

I purchased a Sony Vaio laptop 2 months ago and it came with Windows 8 OS pre-installed. I have no IT support at work for the laptop with this latest operating system. We are a small office w/ no server (on Wifi connections to DSL). I set up my laptop
to auto-connect to one of the 2 wifi networks in the office. We are having a new DSL modem, wifi system installed and they have killed my auto-connected wifi network. Now I can't login b/c I have no network connection and there is no way (that I can see) to
get to the settings menu to select the other network PRE-LOGIN. HELP! If I will never be able to select another network BEFORE I log in, I basically have a $1,000 paper weight on my desk and I'm dead in the water.

Hi there!

This seems like the most random, specific fault with my computer (well, laptop), but it exists.

When I'm on the same (Wifi) network as a Mac (it's only happened with a Mac), my computer, running on Windows 7, restarts. It BSODs for about a quarter of a second before restarting.

I can't see that it is damaging my computer in any way, but it is not fun having to wait for it to reboot, and if it restarted during an update, it could damage the computer.

On restarting, the computer says something about Data Execution Prevention (or something along those lines)

Specifications of my laptop:
- It is a Sony VAIO NW20EF (in silver :P)
- It is running Windows 7

Further spec: Sony Vaio NW20EF/S specifications | Expert Reviews

All help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Will.

Just a guess here...

If you downloaded the driver from windows updates website...then check settings - system - apps & features - here on the top you will see manage optional features...click manage optional features - click add (internet connections is required) - here it will show optional updates available for your system...click any & you will see install tab. Check if your driver is available there.

Hi

I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on a Dell Inspiron Laptop. I also have Ubuntu 11.10 as a dual boot option on this machine.

Recently I got a BSOD with the following error -

DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE

Since then Windows does not recognize the Wifi network adapter. It is not there in the Device Manager at all.

It does not seem to be a hardware problem because when I boot using Ubuntu, the Wifi works without any problem.

Can anyone guide me how to solve this issue. Since the adapter is not being listed in the device manager, I don't know how to update or reinstall drivers.

Thanks

I can get to manage known networks another way but on the wifi network i want to change from public to private, i don't have a properties button to select. i can forget the network but when i reconnect, it doesn't allow me to say whether it is public or private. do i need to change policy settings, uac or something to get the buttons to appear. And I don't want to use home group. Been using shares fro 20 years and don't need all the fluff of home groups. Thanks

I purchased a new Windows 8, Inspiron 15 7000 series - 7537 last December. I had been using a router at a hotel for the time, and it worked correctly. When I arrived home, I had a Belkin router, and i experienced network issues in that i could not connect to the wifi. I could connect with Ethernet cable. The problem was fixed through customer support eventually, but I now have a new Comcast router, and i'm experiencing what appears to be the same or a similar issue. I can access the internet fine by wire. With wifi, it says i have access to the internet over the internet icon in the bottom right, but i cannot access webpages. I can use skype, and communicate through it.

Hello there

First time user but I'm seen some very good answers and I'm hoping that someone can help me.

I just bought a new Windows 8 Pro laptop and I'm having problems with the wifi connection. I'll run the troubleshooter, and the troubleshooter will fix the problem but then the problem happens again repeatedly. The connection says that I'm connected to the wifi network, but there's no internet connection. I have another MacBook in the house and it's still running fine with the wifi connection, so I'm sure there's no problem with the wifi network.

Help please?

I do a lot of wifi hotspot testing over Teamviewer. When the hotspot doesn't work I lose the Teamviewer connection. Is there any way to make Windows connect to a specific network after about 60 seconds or so?

If I can choose the specific wifi network to make Windows to connect to after a set amount of time my life would be much easier!

A:[Q] Make Windows Connect to Specific Wifi Network After 60 seconds?

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

So, there are two or more Wi-Fi SSIDs that you are authorized to connect to in the remote location?

Others in the forum might have a better way to do this, but I would use AutoIt in a ping loop - if the ping fails - then double check - if ping still fails, use netsh to create a connection. Or use the info here or here.

I have a Win 7 system. Everything was working, until a few days ago, and then the Ethernet connection stopped. The activity LEDs work, but the Ethernet will not connect. The Wifi works fine through the same router as the Ethernet is plugged into.

Here is what I did so far.Rebooted PC (full power cycle)
Rebooted router
MSCONFIG to disable all unknown services and apps
Replaced Ethernet cable
Tried a different port
Confirmed Ethernet driver is latest version
Deleted Ethernet driver anyway and reinstalled
Reset IP Stack
Set TCP/IPv4 to static IP and defined the DNS server
Confirmed the adapter's advanced settings were correct
Connected to a USB Ethernet adapter that I know works (and has worked before on this PC)

Nothing I did in the above list worked - Ethernet does not connect. The activity LEDs are working. The Network Connections shows a plugged-in Ethernet as an Unidentified Network.

Here is the IPCONFIG/ALL

This is a frequent problem being faced by me. It arises any time and there is no fixed duration. History: The computer is about 2 years old and the symptoms described below started either abruptly or gradually some 2-3 months ago.

Symptoms: The network access icon in the right of my task bar will show 4-5 bars of signal strength. I'll leave the computer for several hours and when I come back, it shows 0 bars with a red x over it. I click it, select troubleshoot and the Windows Network Diagnostics window pops up and says "Problems found"; A network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken" - Detected; "Problem with wireless adapter or access point" - Fixed, upon which the icon goes back to 4 or 5 bars and I resume my network connectivity. TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS:
1) I tried a side-by-side comparison with another laptop and the Sony VAIO lost the network connection in the manner described above while the other computer didn't.
2) I went to Manage Wireless Networks, removed all networks (including my home network) and then rebuilt the wireless networks by re-entering my home network. I was then able to access my network. However, the wireless network adapter still shut off in the middle of the night.

I just bought a new Pavilion with Windows 10, but I would like to use my old Pavilion p61 40f PC (currently with Windows Vista, but soon to be upgraded to Windows 7) in another part of my house, using Wi-Fi.  I've been getting the message "the capability of your network adaptor does not match the requirements of this network."  From what I gather I need to download PROWin64.exe to have a network adaptor that is compatible with Vista.  My problem is that I can't download it if I don't already have an internet connection.  Can it be downloaded onto a flash drive, and if so, how? I have cable for both internet and TV and I have already tried unplugging the modem from my TV and connecting it using an ethernet cable to both a phone jack and the back of the computer, but still had no connection. If it's not obvious, I'm a tech novice, so an explanation with as much detail as possible would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, You have a couple of options as I see it please try these steps might help you to fix your issue. 1) Disconnect the Battery & Adapter then press & hold the power button on Notebook for 30 seconds then turn on the unit and check if the Wireless light turns on. 2) Go to Device manager then uninstall the wireless drivers and restart the unit and check if the light turns on. 3) Please update the Bios & Wireless driver from HP website. 4) If you are comfortable reseating the wireless card which will be on the back panel off your unit you could try this steps as well.  Let us know how it goes!  ****Click the White Kudos star to say thanks********Please mark Accept As Solution if it solves your problem****

Hi:

Thanks for having me on your forum.

As the title of my post states, I'm having issues with my Windows 10 Wifi or lack thereof.

Let me clarify. I just got FIOS installed back in May 2016. Originally, it was supposed to be installed in March but then Verizon workers went on strike.

Anyway, before getting FIOS and the Quantum Modem/Router, I had DSL Linksy router. I attempted to access/utilize the wireless capabilities of the old DSL router and lo-and behold it worked. I was able to use the "Cast to" feature with the Samsung Smart TV. Everything was working great. Then I got the FIOS Quantum Modem/Router and now not only did the Wifi disappear from my Windows 10 "Settings" but the WLAN Network adapter is also missing from my "Device Manager". Basically I need to know if this is FIOS Modem/Router or something with my motherboard. I don't know if it's the motherboard but I'm not ruling the possibility out that it could be. I say this because there wasn't an issue with WLAN Adapter missing from the "Device Manager" before I got new so-called improved FIOS Quantum Modem/Router. Regardless of how things shake out I would appreciate any help that you can provide.

Thanks,

P.S. I might not get back to you quickly as sometimes when I get home from work the last thing I feel like doing to getting on the computer.

Please help. I have Dell D630 Laptop, was Vista, then 7, ( has been running Win 10 successfully on Wireless) Started showing problems on boot-up, but always got started using the network troubleshooter. Then Total failure. I've re-installed a clean copy of win 7, same disk works sucessfully on another Dell 1545. I've had the w/lan module out, cleaned the connectors with electrolube, but booting-up, doesn't recognise w/lan. How do I go about further troubleshooting. I can do quite a bit but 76 year old silvery. Thanks

Hello, I own an hp laptop pc. The last couple days I have had problems connecting to my wireless network. I keep receiving an error that says that my wifi network has an invalid ip address. I have had this computer for a year and haven't had any problems like this until just a couple days ago. When I try to troubleshoot the connection I get a windows activation error of 0x80070426.

I have tried running a diagnostic test and nothing comes up. I've tried a virus scan and no virus's found. I've tried to uninstall wifi network adapter restarted computer and then re-installed it, and that didn't change anything. I have ran a recovery test and computer says it can't fix the problem. I can only get online if I restart modem everytime. I have also tried to do an ipconfiguration from the c prompt screen. No success. I don't know what else to do. Can anyone help me please?

Thank you

Mary

I want to put my mac mini on my wireless network at home. Every other computer is running windows. I was going to install the expensive airport express card, but thought about using a USB 2.0 wireless adapter instead.
Has anyone ever tried this, or have any recommendations on a USB wireless adapter (802.11g)?

Thanks in advance

A:Mac Mini on a wireless network

as far as I am aware you have to use airport with a mac. A usb 'dongle' is a no go.

Hi,
I have two computers Before I touched them they were connected to each other through a switch (nothing else *not even the net) and they shared printers and files/folders in windows 2000 like no ones business. *(these are accounting comptures and they use peach tree accounting - multi licence junk that i dont know about, basicly its a shared folder mapped as a drive is all I can tell) any who I added a wifi 802.11g (108mb) card to both computers and got them hooked up on to a wireless lan I made *(connected to the net)*. They work great, I basicly unplugged the lan cables *(disabled the nic card)* cuz I didnt need that any more and use the wifi as the default and only connection and share junk over that now. Well the ladys in the office tell me that peach tree will be very slow and unstable like it will just not work some times and they get error about the connection and stuff. The signal strenth is good and they are set to use infastruction and ad-hock too. *(I see no reason why there would be signal and speed issues)* BUT I want to put it back the way it was. Is there a way to make it so the lan card is used for just sharing files and printers and the wifi card for port 80 and the internet stuff?

I tried to plug both in at once but it always wants to use the LAN when opening up Internet Explorer... How do i assign jobs to each adaptor? *(after disabing the lan card it would use the wifi card)*

Please reply soon, this problem needs to be fixed and I dont know how much... Read more
