New homegroup created by accident

Q: New homegroup created by accident

I recently built the computer shown in my specs. I didn't get to joining the existing homegroup quick enough. My wife needed files from one of the homegroup laptops. Having not joined, my wife attempted it but ended up creating a new homegroup on the new build. When I go into homegroup (start menu) I don't have the option to join a homegroup, nor do I have one to leave the homegroup.

So how do I delete the new homegroup created, so I can join my established group?

A: New homegroup created by accident

What you need to do is remove each computer from the new homegroup.

Once you've done that, the homegroup will no longer exist, leaving you free to rejoin your original homegroup.

Hi!

Hi use vista. You know when downloading it tells you to pick a place to save it?

I accedently clicked desktop and draged it to another place. Now I have about 3 desktop folders

Please help me how to fix this. Is there a program?

Please answer!

A:Created some 'Desktop' folders by accident

It's not quite clear where or what these desktop folders are, but is anything stopping you from deleting these folders if you don't want them?

I have had a netgear router for some time now (WNR2000) for three home computers, all Windows Vista+ and recently had to buy a new wireless adapter for one of them (WNA3100). Previously, all computers were connected to a security-enabled network called 'Johnson'.

I installed the new adapter via the wizard and it ended up creating a new network entitled 'NTGR_zhOXSTT8ZSXtTUsaRd5lXfrq-WPS'. Johnson has now disappeared from the list and no other computer is able to connect to this new network. I tried changing from WPA2 to WEP and changing the password in hopes that the other computers will be able to login but it didn't work.

Help!!

A:Created new network by accident; other computers can't connect!

Why not (on the router) change it back to the old SSID and WPA-PSK or whatever encryption you were using, make sure you didn't enable MAC Address filtering, and stay away from those strange wizards?

So my mediacenter-PC (Windows 8.1) in my living room was the main computer where i created a homegroup. I had all my other PC's connected to it. no problem. Not until i updated my personal myname-PC to Windows 10 (clean install) now it doesn't want to connect to the homegroup anymore. So i decided to leave the homegroup in my mediacenter-PC, and start a new one. However, from now on, trying to join the homegroup with myname-PC, with the password i was given does not join, it says cannot join.

So i decide to again my mediacenter-PC leave the homegroup, i do, and behold apparently, the homegroup still exists. The weird thing is it says join Steve Harold mediacenter-PC homegroup (this is showing on the same computer i created that very same homegroup)

So the computer where i created the homegroup which i had left, is asking me to join its own homegroup. Can anyone help me, been trying to fix this for two days and can't do it.

A:PC where Homegroup is/was created asking me to join

That is because you need to recreate the Homegroup.

I am gonna be blunt here. I did post this in a HomeGroup thread already and no luck with a reply. So I am going to start a new thread.

So I did the final 10 upgrade about 2 weeks ago on 3 of my machines. Now Homegroup is not working. I have gone through steps from multiple sites with no luck at getting this working.

Here is the break down.

Laptop Sony Vaio. Basic specs. Running 64 bit 10
Media Center Nothing special. Running 64 10
Main PC Really not special. Running 64 10

I want the Main PC to be the creator of the Home Group.
For some reason the laptop wants to be the creator of the home group. So I shut it down.

Now I went to create the home group on my main pc and it says its already created. The twist is that it says that my Main PC is the home group creator and that the only options is to join or close. This is on my pc that I want it to be created on.

I have gone through with stopping and restarting services for the HomeGroup. I have deleted all the files files out of the C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking folder. I have shut down all machines. But still says that Main PC has created the group already.

I am Stumped.

and

did everything still nothing :I the 2 other computers connected to the main homegroup computer is working fine. Now i can't think of anything. All help is appreciated

It sounds like you are on a public network, have you tried changing to a private network? Most likely you are already using a private network and something is off with the Windows services.

I am trying to rejoin (or delete & recreate) my HOMEGROUP. I am ON the computer that originally created it. Attached "IMAGE 001" is what I see on the 'main' computer (called NEWDELL) that originally started the HOMEGROUP. Notice there is no option to view the Homegroup Password. When I try to join it, I get the standard dialog boxes (attached images 002 and 003) but I do not have the password and as stated I cannot access it in the usual place.

Notice the message in 001, that "Parents on NEWDELL has created a HOMEGROUP". That's me, I am user=PARENTS, and I'm on the computer that created the Homegroup which is NEWDELL.

Based on numerous hours of research on forums, I have already tried the following solutions:

1) From CMD.EXE, run as Administrator, issue statement: "net share Users /d" without the quotes to delete the Share called "Users". Reboot.

2) In Windows Explorer, navigate to "C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking" and then delete all the files in this folder. Reboot.

3) In Services, stop
- Homegroup Listener
- Homegroup Provider
- Peer Name Resolution Protocol
- Peer Networking Grouping
- Peer Networking Identity Manager

...then reboot & restart these services. Also tried changing them from Manual to Automatic.

4) I had 2 NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices on my network, sharing to Homegroup, and I have switched them to "WORK... Read more

A:Cannot Join HOMEGROUP, and I am ON the computer that created it

Did you notice that where it says type the Homegroup password?

Where it says: You can get the password from Parents on NEWDELL or another member of the Homegroup?

Wait, if you are the parent at NEWDELL you were locked out of your own system.

Strange problem but it may work to leave the Homegroup from all Homegroup machines then create a new one and rejoin. Windows appears to be treating you like you aren't really in the Homegroup any more.

If you have any problems rejoining then delete all the files at PeerNetworking on each Homegroup machine but I can see you tried that?

If this is a single machine see if you are able to simply leave the Homegroup.

Hi there,

I've set up sharing on my Windows 7 PC and Laptop, which is working fine. However, I've created several custom libraries on my PC to cover various projects I'm working on (e.g. London Project). However, from my Laptop, when I try to access the libraries on my PC (via the Homegroup in the navigation pane), I can only access the default libraries (ie Documents, Music, Pictures and Video). I can't see the new libraries (e.g. London Project) that I've created. Unfortunately, I can't seem to work out how to share these new libraries I've created - tried all the usual 'Right click - Properties' etc., and going via the Homegroup settings to no avail.

I *can*, however, access the folders which are indexed within these new libraries on my laptop, *if* I go via the 'Network' in the navigation pane. BUT this doesn't show me the libraries at all.

Any ideas greatly appreciated (but not as much as a definitive solution).

Cheers, Hawkeye.

A:Cannot share new (user created) library on Homegroup

When you right click, share with, what do you see?

Notes
If you don't see the Share with menu, you might be trying to share an item on a network or other unsupported location. It also won't appear when you select files outside your personal folder.
If you're trying to share with specific people in your homegroup but don't see their names in the File Sharing wizard, they might not have linked their Windows user account to an online ID. You might also need to install an online ID provider on your computer. For more information, see What's the benefit of linking my online IDs with my Windows user account?
If you try to share something in one of the Windows 7 Public folders, the Share with menu will display an option called Advanced sharing settings. This option takes you to Control Panel, where you can turn Public folder sharing on or off.
And to access from other machine:
To access shared files, folders, or libraries on other homegroup computers<LI class=step>Click the Start button , and then click your user name.
<LI class=step>In the navigation pane (the left pane), under Homegroup, click the user account of the person whose files you want to access.
In the file list, double-click the library you want to access, and then double-click the item you want.

You need to first leave the Homegroup from all the other Homegroup machines. This will clear the Homegroup credential cache.

After that you should be able to create a new Homegroup and then rejoin from all machines.

Hi guys,

I have a homegroup between 2 w7 pcs. It's working just fine over my network but I'm a bit confused about something.

I am storing no data in my w7 'librarys' becsuse my data is on a separate drive and that data is linked to the libraries if that makes sense. Again all working as expected.

Additionally I created a new library called games. It just links to my games folder on e: however when I view my homegroup from another pc, only the default libraries show and not the games library.

Any ideas?

Recently I've been having abyssmal internet speeds (like .1mb/s down when I am used to haven't at least 3-4 mb/s down). This is when I noticed that a homegroup was created on my network by a PC that is not associated with anything in my household. My wireless has always been secured with WPA-TKIP, but I guess someone has been able to get into my network and create a homegroup on it. So I obviously can't remove the homegroup since I don't have the homegroup password or access to the PC that created it (since it's kind of obvious some one has started stealing bandwidth recently).

I went ahead and changed all of my router wireless security settings, but my concern is that my network can still be accessed through the homegroup that the intruder created even without the new keys. This PC is not showing on my network, however it isn't all that difficult to hide yourself. I would also like to know if there's any way for me to get this homegroup off my network completely since I may want to use the homegroup functionality at some point down the line.

I have a linksys WRT54G router with up to date firmware currently and I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on this machine (but I also have multiple other computers running both windows 7 and vista on this network). Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

A:Homegroup Created Outside Household on Secured Wireless

You can delete the network via the "network and sharing centre" on all pc's (in control panel) (vista similar) you can also enable passwords protect in advanced settings - on the top left side - click change advanced sharing settings - click connect or disconnect and then create new homegroup with password protect.
Probably the best group of settings can be found on the network and sharing page on the bottom left side - click homegroup and most settings you need will appear including the advanced settings.

A:Windows 7 Control Panel Homegroup not revealing Homegroup Password

Hello Admiral,

If the desktop computer will not let you view the homegroup password, then you might see if you may be able to change it, then use the new password to join the laptop to the homegroup.

If not, then you might go ahead and start over by leaving the homegroup on both computers, create a homegroup on the desktop to get a new password, and join the laptop to the homegroup with the new password.

Hope this helps,

I get a "Homegroup encountered an error" message when I try to join my laptop and desktop to a homegroup. It does not matter which one sets it up and which one tries to join. It errors in either direction. I have tried leaving and creating, no use. The desktop is wired to a Belkin 300N router and the laptop is wireless. The desktop uses a static ip address and the laptop uses the router's dhcp server. Both computers are on the same subnet and can ping in both directions. Sharing via workgroup works fine. Why won't this software do it's job?

The desktop is a fresh install of Windows 7 professional 64 bit and the laptop has been running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit for 4 months. I have followed the suggesstions that I have found in the forums and also the troubleshooter with no success. Any ideas?

A:Homegroup encountered an error / This computer cannot join a homegroup

I got it to work after I uninstalled McAffey, deleted the static ip addresses, and used wireless to connect both pc's to router. Not sure which one did the trick but I know that if I try to use a static ip address on my desktop/media server, homegroup disappears. I think its not all that great anyway, I just wanted to justify the $50,000 i just spent on classes to get my Bachelors in Networking.

Hello,
I have the following problems with the HomeGroup:
I choose View or print the homegroup password: The password window does not pop up. Without the password no other computer can join the homegroup.

I choose Change password: On your computer it is not possible to create a homegroup.
I choose Leave the homegroup: Your computer could not leave the homegroup.

I checked the following services:
HomeGroup Provider: started
HomeGroup Listener: started
Peer Name Resolution Protocol: not started; error 0x80630203
Peer Networking Grouping service: not started; error 1068.
Peer Networking Identity Manager service: started
PNRP Machine Name Publication Service: not started; error 1068.

The computer that originally created the homegroup on my network is no more. It seems that because of this that my new computer is unavailable to join the homegroup that already exists. Other computers that were part of the homegroup before the "host" computer died are still part of the homegroup and able to share files, etc.

Is there a way to connect a new computer to the homegroup if the original host computer is no longer part of the network/ no longer exists?

A:Unable to join homegroup, homegroup creating computer is no more

The original computer is not required as long as you have other computers that were part of original homegroup. Boot another computer that was part of homegroup and then enter the password and it will join. I no longer have the original computer that was used to setup the first homegroup but new ones join properly when others are active on network.

Hi ppl,

My home network has 4 computers(including mine) running windows 7, and all of them are connected to the same router/access point for internet connection. When I created a homegroup, and went to add the other computers, they created another homegroup and the other 3 computers are now in the same homegroup. However on my side, it detects no computers. I clicked "leave homegroup", and it detected no homegroup on the network. The other 3 computers are on the same homegroup and are able to share files and printers. I cannot join the homegroup when i click homegroup in windows explorer it only says there is no homegroup on the network and asks me to create a homegroup. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? I badly need to share the printers and files across my home network.

I have a desktop and laptop both with WIN 7 and both with the same User ID.

Both machines say "Joined" under Homegroup when I click on Network & Sharing Center.

On the dtop in Windows Explorer the "HOMEGROUP" icon shows no other Homegroup connected machines but both machines are displayed there under the "NETWORK" icon.Clicking the "HOMEGROUP" icon here gives the message "No other Homegroup computers are currently available"
Because of this , if I want to "see" Libraries on the ltop from the dtop I have to click the ltop icon on "NETWORK"

The "HOMEGROUP" icon on the ltop is expandable to show both P.C.'s

In spite of this I am able to "see" files across this network as long as I accept this difference between the "HOMEGROUP" icons on the dtop.

Can anyone explain why my dtop "HOMEGROUP" icon is limited in this way ?

Hi there!

I've just upgraded my husband PC from Windows 7 to 10.
Everything went well except that I can no longer connect to the network.
After some attempt, I chose to delete all homegroup to create a new one.
All right on my husband's computer (leave the homegroup), while on my computer (which is the main computer) after leaving the existing homegroup (BigBear-Lio) I cannot create a new one.

LioSeven on LioSeven PC doesn't exist anymore.
It's an old computer I had and after that I bought this (with Win 8 as OS and then I did the upgrade to Win 10 one year ago).
So this homegroup maybe remained in memory since I transferred the files at least 2 years ago.
Now I'm not able to delete it and if I cannot delete it, I don't have the choice ti create a new one.
I have tried everything with no luck.

Can someone help me please?
Thanks in advance

HI everyone,

We finally have all computers in the house running widows 7 and would like to set up a homegroup. The problem is a homegroup was set up a few years ago on a laptop, and that laptop is no longer functioning (fried motherboard) as I understand the only way to delete the homegroup is for all parties to leave that group. This is no longer possible because the last computer that is connected is not accessible.

I have tried setting up a new new network and wireless account thinking that might reset or change the location setting os the homegroup but it is still present.

The only option I have to do is "Join Homegroup" and I no longer have that computer and thus cannot access the password to that homegroup

Any thoughts or options?
Is there another way to delete or access this homegroup?

Thanks

I'm using windows XP and in network connections I accidently deleted my lan connection icon. (I know that sounds goofy) Then the recycle bin got emptied before I could restore it Since I am using DSL I obviously need this, but it will not even detect the hardware to make a new connection. I've spent hours trying to figure this out, and read everything about LAN in the microsoft help and support.

When I was reformatting my computer i deleted a part of my drive that i think was really important. It was drive E:. After the reformatting I tried to go on the internet. I tried to go on wireless but, I didn't have a wireless internet icon for my wireless card so I plugged it in. Still i could not go on the Internet. Then I tried to open some programs and half of them would load the others I would get error reports from.
I think the reason it doesn't work is because of the drive I accidently deleted. Is there any way that I could get the data back without taking it to a repair shop? Thanks for any help. Oh and I cant put my laptop on standby either.

General Info

Windows 8 pro

Cant do anything on computer
using a different laptop right now

I was in regedit trying to delete an instant savings app that had found its way into my computer. I believe i was in Local_Users and i know i went to the software folder. I accidentally deleted the software folder and I couldnt use any programs. I couldnt use a system restore because it gave me an error so i decided to reboot and go into safe mode and do it there but it didnt work. I have been trying to figure all of this out with windows technicians and didnt get anywhere. I cant do anything on my broken computer because when i boot it up, it skips the boot menu and i cant get it into safe mode or anything. it goes straight to the lock screen and I cant read any texts and can only put in my password. After I put in the password, it gives me a black screen for a few seconds with a blue spinning wheel on my mouse and it goes back to the lock screen. My idea was to load the cd I have with the win8 pro back onto my computer and that would reset the registry but I dont know how to do this because I cant do any functions on my pc at the moment. any help would be great. Sorry for all the bad writing, I am trying to finish a lot of homework and figure out this problem at the same time.

Thank you,
Alex

For the record: I am Win98 and ME certified and knowledgeable with DOS.
I am a 'shift-del' freak and was cleaning my desktop, 3 weeks ago and accidentally included my coin logs(I've been working on these for 3.5 years). Being an XP user and knowing XP doesn't use DOS, I thought there was no chance of getting them back; I just found out I was wrong and with the proper tools I can. I never did this before, but so need to. Please help.

UPDATE: A friend referred me to "recuva" yoake a recovery, of about 15 files(MSWord), I got back 2 and one was my buff(buffalo coin) logs. However later I discovered;both files will not open. Windows says, "word cannot find compressor for..." I'm clueless here. Plus after choosing to unhide all files and folders, I ran into 2 files that have the names I lost; but they begin with "~$", only have 1K and the icon is light colored. What is this? Any chance of recovery nof these 4 and others.?

there are quite a lot of recovery programs available

I have used www.z-a-recovery.com a digital camera free recovery on the site and recovered 100 images off a CF card , so i know some of these work well

From a Elvandil Post
Here's a list. If the free ones don't see anything, forget the pay ones. I know Pandora is still around and has updated recovery software. And the other day, someone used the Disk Investigator at the bottom, which is meant to show you how much stuff is still on your drive after you thought you cleaned it, and they managed to get all their files back. Dr. Freeware is pretty new and updated not too long ago, with other useful tools, too.

Hi all,

I'm not pc savvy at all so this message comes with a tad bit of panic!

My mother accidently hit "log off" instead of restart using windows XP. Now she gets a blue screen that says "Welcome" on the left and my family's name with a chess board icon on the right. There's a button on the bottom that says "turn off family computer". We cannot get to the desk top no matter what we try. We can only shut it down. We think she hit log off-- since it's a family computer we never use this function. Can anyone tell me how to get back to the desktop? (she's quite upset because we're not sure what happened exactly, and not sure what to do)

ANY help or suggests are welcome! Thanks much!

Hi everyone.

I am having a very similar issue as OP, but I "accidentally" [STUPID ME.....] did diskpart/clean (only clean) on a remote HD (149Ghz size with no partition on it).

I am still reading through this thread and hopefully I will be able to recover my data on this remote HD. I have been using TestDisk, EaseUS partition recovery to scan (only quick scan so far) w/o any luck yet. At this moment I am running Partition Recovery quick scan now. Since I do not have any partition on this HD, I am not sure if I am doing the right thing.... I only store pictures (tons of them) and some docs on it. I am on Page 9 of this thread, I will keep reading and trying.

Thanks in advance for helping me,
Lucy

Welcome to TSF.

That's not good. That's the main reason we tell users not to use this program on their own since it can cause damage. Do you have an older log of what you had before you did the fixes? If not, tell us what you fixed if you can remember.

Post your new log you have now and we'll take a look at it. What firewall program are you using?

Hello, I recently purchased Dell XPS 8700 that came with a 2tb harddive formatted with GPT. The computer came with Windows 8, and I wanted to downgrade to Windows 7. However the windows installer wouldn't install on any of the current partitions, so I deleted every partition with gParted and proceeded to install Windows 7 successfully onto the one giant partition. Since I deleted all the GPT partition information (Idiotically), I am unable to make more partitions and dual boot.

So my questions are: Is my harddrive as of right now in MBR or GPT? And how would I add the GPT partitions back, as in the primary and secondary GPT headers?

Edit: I am attempting to dual boot with Xubuntu 14.04 and Windows 7 Professional, both 64bit and the computer has the UEFI, I think. Am I better off using MBR or GPT to dual boot? I only want two OS's and a shared data partition.

A:Deleted all the GPT Partitions by accident

Quote:

Deleting all GPT partitions is a recommended step to downgrade "Windows 8" as "Windows 7" is known to not much liking GPT based UEFI boot mode. Although "Win 7" 64 bit edition may boot from a GPT disk, i prefer MBR partitioning especially in case of dual booting with Linux. The only mistake you made here is not to partition the disk at the time of install. Fortunately you can split the single large "C" partition to two or three small partitions with the help of "Partition Wizard" free edition.

Personally, I'd find it much easier to figure out what's going on here if I could see what Disk Manager says. You don't seem to have a very good grasp on disk terminology, so if you could take a screenshot of a fully expanded Disk Manager, (right click My Computer, select manage, on the right side of the screen choose disk management) then I can get back to you with much more specific advice.

Edit: To take a Screen shot, press print screen on your keyboard, and then paste into an image program such as paint. Save the resulting file, and then upload it to a site such as photobucket which will host the image for you for free. (You have to sign up for a free account first.) After uploading to an image hosting site, the site will provide you with several links that you can use to post the image here on this forum.

By Accident I Unplugged My Computer while it was on and now i am worried that my movie files will be corrupted...they seem to play fine...but i am still worried....please could somebody please help by telling me if any of my files will become damaged...thank you

A:By Accident I Unplugged My Computer While It Was On

Unless the files were open and being played or saved at the time of the power loss, there should be no damage.

But remember that power can do out at any time and hard disks die without warning (quite often, these days), so all your important data must be backed up. Since you are so worried it would suggest you have no backup plan. Maybe time to get one?

As an example I backup all new data every day, to a second and totally separate hard drive, then all data to DVD every week. Every DVD is "verified" to ensure that no files are corrupt in the copy process.

Hello,

While I accomplished so much successfully setting up my computer in AHCI earlier, I now blew it all.

I had the SMART command failure error with my SSD, and received a new BIOS from my motherboard manufacturer. I applied it and "Loaded Optimized Defaults" in the BIOS as your supposed to. Stupid me, that means the motherboard activates IDE mode, but I installed Windows in AHCI mode.

So... I switched it back to AHCI after booting into IDE by accident and now I'm getting MBR Error. Is there any way to repair this? I have been trying to repair it through the Windows Install disk, using bootsec & command prompt to no avail.

Likely because where the screen pops up that says: "Use recovery tools that can help fix problems starting Windows. Select an operating system to repair" There's no option to select. So I elected to "Load Drivers" using iaAHCI.inf [Intel ICH10R] from the Intel RST installer (I extracted it on my Laptop). It still doesn't recognize it.
-->This is all pertaining to image 3. on the guide on the link HERE

If I HAVE to install Windows again, I have 2 storage drives installed as well, do I take them out to prevent them from being formatted? They are holding My Documents/My Pictures/My Music/My Videos etc.

Thanks!

There is a backup copy in C:\Windows\System32\dllcache

most of the time it is compressed in this folder.

Here is a copy of it from my XP installation (uncompressed)
See attached
You will need a XP install CD and use recovery environment to copy the file to the proper place, or use an Ubuntu boot CD to do it.

Here is an article on using a Ubuntu CD to copy data off an unbootable windows PC, one could also use it to copy a file to a Windows folder.

I have a 2TB external hard drive and a 1TB external hard drive.
I got a new 2TB internal hard drive and was installing Windows on it.
On the screen where it showed the connected drives, I stupidly forgot the 2 external drives were still connected. I thought somehow it was breaking up the new 2TB internal drive into 3 separate partitions. I clicked on the two external drives and deleted the partitions because I thought it would merge them. I DID NOT format luckily.
I am in the middle of running the Analyzer using TestDisk on the 2TB external. Since it is a 2TB hard drive, it is analyzing about 10% of the disk per day. So I guess it will take 10 days to finish. Small price to pay if I can recover all the data on these drives. One has all our home movies and photos and the other has all our scanned documents in PDF format. Sigh.
I am wondering if I am doing this the right way with TestDisk? Is there a faster way? When I deleted the partitions, the process took less than a second. The drives were partitioned to used 100% of the drive space. I read the page TestDisk Step By Step but still not sure if there isn't an easier way for my particular blunder. Nothing should be corrupted. Just deleted.
Thank you!

A:Deleted Partitions By Accident Please Help

Yes it should be faster. I thought there were two levels to the restore deleted partitions and only the deeper level involves scanning the surface for old deleted partitions.

I was curious as Malwarebytes, MSE, and even ESET didn't find anything like this, while SUPERAntiSpyware found adware but not these, though I'm not too sure: but I brought up start task manager and looked under processes and found two that weren't under my user name (just so you know, under "users" it's just me), and after looking them up on google, learned that they might be trojans. They are: csrss.exe, and winlogon.exe. Well, that last one isn't really a trojan, but wasn't under my user name so I brought it up here just in case.

I don't want to get in trouble, as I need to do some accounting-related stuff soon n my comp., so I need to know if they are trojans or not, and if they are, how to get rid of them right away. Any ideas, and could there be more? (Again, Malwarebytes, MSE, SUPERAnti and ESET didn't pick this up)

Hey guys, just opened up a link on steam from someone and stupidly opened and ran the file which was a .scr.
From a preliminary search it seems that I may have installed a Trojan, so any help would be appreciated.

Running a Windows 7, with the only security software being Microsoft Security Essentials (which a scan didn't turn up anything awry).

Many thanks for any help!

Click ok to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'EZARC.msi" . I can't figure out what to do. Due to this problem, I had to reformat my pc again and install again since the OS repair not succeed. Because of this multiple times reformatting, I started worry about reliability of my hard disk drive.

What i want ask is " If i faced this problem in the future, any common solutions that can fix these kind of problems (if different of error messeges)".....

you don't have to worry about the h/d

Hi,
I was going to check if my external HDD needed to be defragged. I was in the wee window that asks about checking the disk for errors and decided to do that, there's always two options, one is always automatically ticked and there's another one that said something about find and attempt to restore corrupt files, that is never ticked and I never choose it, until today. All I noticed was it found 1024 files, and I clicked proceed, it processed or fixed etc and i went back to the pc after an hour and decided just to cancel as it seemed to be stuck at 2025 files checked.
Once i clicked cancel I couldn't get access to my external HDD and when I right on 'My Computer' it says it's NTFS files and is full but windows can't get access to it, i thought i'd try restoring it and i can see that out of the 1TB I have used 330GB which is what my disk was like before my mistake.
as with most people I have all my most important stuff saved there away from my C drive.
Ok, sorry for waffling on, can anyone tell me if I am able to restore my drive back to what it was (Would that have been FAT32 files?)

Hi.

I got an OEM version of Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit with my PC, which is capable of 64-bit.

I've read that the serial key is legal for either version, 32-bit or 64-bit, but the DVD I got only has 32-bit version.

How can I get a new DVD with the 64-bit version, as I got 8 gigs of ram and I can't use them.

I bought and built the computer myself and made a mistake when I ordered Windows, and asked for 32-bit because I was scared of compatibility, and I opened and installed it already, so I can't take it back.

A:Windows OEM 32-bit bought by accident,need 64-bit DVD

You can try contacting whoever supplied you with the 32bit disc and explain your mistake... they may send you a new 64bit one... You may just have to bite the bullet and purchase the 64bit version...

The only way I know is to download and try this software and then just hope
Recuva or ShadowExplorer to try and recover them from the file's original folder.

Hello everyone,I have two computers, a laptop and a desktop. When i installed W7 Beta, homegroup worked without a htich and has been working since. Today i upgraded the laptop to the RC, and after that i coudlnt see the desktop anymore in the homegroup (could still see it through the network). So i thought it was an issue with the beta and RC not playing well together so i upgraded the desktop as well, and they still dont see eachother in the homegroup get an error saying "No other homegroup computers are currently available", only through the network tab.I tried leaving and joining the homegroup, both from the laptop and PC. IPv6 is enabled, times are synced with the time server, same user and pass on both pcs, all settings under advanced are turned to on besides password protected sharing. I tried switching to work then home on both pcs. When i join one to the homegroup the other does get an invitation to join however when it does join it cant see the other computer.Any help would be greatly appriciated.

My question reguarding a potential command prompt error.

I recently installed a game that was ment to be played only on Windows xp.
The problem was since vista was unable to run it, i decided to look around forums to see if there was anything i can do to fix this.

I finaly found a command that bypassed the "Data Execution prevention"
Known as:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff

I inserted it in the command prompt and pressed enter.
The game still wouldnt run.
Finally i decided to just uninstall it.

Moments later, i tried running yahoo messenger.
I recieved a message saying "To help protect your computer, Data execution prevention has closed Yahoo messenger.

Not only Messenger but a few other programs as well.

Is there a way to fix this back to normal?

*Ive already tried using:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOn

*Shut down, and start up again.

Guy that used to work on my cousins comp is no longer available.

I was given the comp to see if I could get it going. On booting up all there was was a blue screen with an error message about there being no boot sector or something.

I wanted to do a repair so I put the cd in and hit enter when it said do a fresh install, accepted the agreement, then expected (as per directions) that I would have a choice of a new install or repair. But instead I was sitting in front of 3 partitions. I thought the obvious partition for windows to be on would be C:

I selected 'C' and then selected to install saving current files (or something like that). Other alternatives all involved format.

Next thing its doing a fresh install, I was still waiting for the chance to repair, I thought it would give me a chance to go back if I made a mistake.

After loading files the computer re-booted to continue the installation, but before continuing with the installation all these errors were repaired in 'D'. Now when I boot up i'm asked which operating system to start with a choice of 2 versions of windows XP.

First I want to know how to remove the 2nd installation. I believe just deleting the windows folder wont do it, there will still be the option of which operating system to use at start-up.

Next thing is, looking at 'D' drive. In Documents and Settings/Owner there is a folder Windows, the only thing it contains is a folder 'System' and it appears to b... Read more

Ok, so i deleted the 'desktop' folder by accident from the My Documents window (or just above my documents folder)...

Now the 'Desktop icon' at the top of the folder list shows a different set of shortcuts/folders (incl. RecycleBin, Network etc etc)... the now 'yellow' desktop folder that is under the 'user' is messed up.

I've attached 2 screen shots because i'm sure my explanation is poor. Anyway, this is driving me crazy - can't figure it out. I've been messing around with it for hours - at one point i had 'desktop' with about 15 'desktop' subfolders......

help! please!
Thanks

Hi, my computer (IDell Dimension 5150) was having problems booting, it would lag at the last bar of the BIOS loading screen. After a while, it wouldn't turn on, a flashing amber light which meant that there was a power source but wasn;t reaching it internally, and the suggestion from the manual was to check voltage. I reallly regret it now but I was in a hurry and i was playing around with the voltage switch and changed it from 230 to 115 and I heard a pop noise and now the Green LED light isn't on anymore and computer won't boot. I don't smell anything funny so I hope it's ok. I really need the computer so if you guys could help out, Thanks heaps.

So a few months back I was doing stuff and I accidentally compressed the appdata files on my WIndows 8 laptop. When I decompressed them, not all of the files were returned to their normal state. The "Local" and "Roaming" files are the ones affected, and within each of those, the "Microsoft" folder is smaller than it should be. Hey Guys I screwed up as follows:

I was fooling around with my graphics drivers and accidentally deleted them. A screen popped up to reboot the computer. It rebooted.

Now whenever I restart my computer, first a microsoft screen appears, then it appears to load but I have no on-screen visual as i get a monitor error message (Not Optimum Mode, Recommended 1920x1200, 60Hz), I am therefore unable to download and install any updated drivers.

What Can I do to restore my Drivers or at least get a visual to Re-install them?

I believe you'd need to boot into safe mode in order to get the resolution down, or at least that's the easiest way I can think of. Boot into safe mode and allow as much as possible, try installing your drivers from there.
